They don’t have my support again, I am hurt – Sista Afia on colleagues who failed to share her new song

Musician Sista Afia has expressed disappointment in her colleagues, stating she will no longer go out of her way to support them.

Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz, she revealed that after releasing her latest song, Krekete Soja, featuring Amerado, she expected her industry peers to share it on social media.

However, despite her unwavering support for them in the past, they failed to return the favor.

“These people know themselves. This is not an attack on the whole industry but on two individuals I have always supported. They’ve been to my home and enjoyed my hospitality, yet they couldn’t do something as simple as sharing my song. I’m hurt, and this is the last time I’ll go out of my way for them,” she said.

Sista Afia specifically addressed her concerns about two individuals, whose names she did not mention, emphasizing that her disappointment is not with the entire industry but with those she has personally supported.

Her remarks highlight the challenges of reciprocity in the music industry and her decision to reevaluate the support she gives to fellow artists.

MC Yaa Yeboah expresses gratitude to Adwoa Pokua’s support in difficult times

Media personality MC Yaa Yeboah has expressed deep gratitude to her longtime friend Adwoa Pokua, whom she credits for playing a pivotal role in her life when she had nowhere to turn.

Speaking about her tumultuous childhood and struggles to find a stable home, Yeboah revealed how Adwoa Pokua provided her with food, shelter, and emotional support during her darkest moments. “She kept me warm, fed, and clothed when I had no one else,” she shared.

Having endured a challenging upbringing marked by domestic abuse and homelessness, Yeboah recalled making a firm decision to leave home after completing senior high school. With no financial security or stable accommodation, she turned to Adwoa Pokua, who welcomed her into her home without hesitation.

Beyond providing the basics, Adwoa Pokua also gave Yeboah the emotional security she had long yearned for. “She treated me like family. I never felt like a burden. She made sure I was comfortable and had what I needed to move forward,” she said.

One of the most touching gestures, Yeboah recalled, was how Adwoa Pokua’s boyfriend funded her very first birthday celebration. “My first birthday celebration, in my entire life, was made possible because of Adwoa Pokua’s boyfriend. That’s something I will never forget,” she said.

Now a successful media personality, Yeboah looks back on those experiences with immense appreciation, praying for divine blessings upon her friend. “She is someone I hold in high esteem. May God bless her for all she did for me,” she concluded.

2face and Annie Idibia will struggle till death – Ghanaian prophet

Renowned Ghanaian spiritual leader, OneGod The Worldseer, has made a startling prophecy about Nigerian music icon 2Baba and his estranged wife, Annie Idibia, just days after their publicized separation.

In a video shared on his Facebook page, OneGod claimed that both Annie and 2Baba’s souls have departed their bodies and are now trapped in the spiritual realm. He warned that unless they confront their “dark sides,” their future will be fraught with pain, illness, and sorrow.

“Only their bodies are alive, but their souls are far gone,” he declared. “The rest of their lives will be filled with struggles, pain, sickness, and tears until bad news finally reigns and their bodies are buried.”

His prophecy particularly singled out Annie, describing her condition as severe. “That beautiful lady, she is inside a coffin in the spiritual world,” he alleged, painting a grim picture of her spiritual well-being.

OneGod’s revelation has triggered a wave of mixed reactions, with some followers expressing deep concern while others dismiss it as mere sensationalism.

The prophecy surfaces amid an already tumultuous period for the couple, whose breakup has dominated entertainment headlines across Africa.

Timini Egbuson calls out women who equate love with money

Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson has voiced his concerns about the commercialization of love and dating in modern relationships.

Speaking in a recent interview with TVC, he highlighted how this trend has reshaped people’s views on relationships, particularly among financially well-off men.

Egbuson noted that many women associate a man’s affection with his readiness to spend money on them, a perspective he considers misguided. He explained that some wealthy men lavish their partners with gifts not out of love but simply because they have the means to do so.

“The nonchalant attitude of some men is because there are a lot of women accessible to them,” Egbuson explained. “Once you have money, you have a lot of options. And that is also because a lot of women have monetized dating.”

He further noted, “Some men know that when they spend lavishly on a lady, she would think they are in love with her. But that is not love because he’s a billionaire; he can afford to do the same thing for hundreds of girls.”

Citing these complexities, Egbuson revealed that he has chosen to remain single for now, describing the dating scene as “stressful” and challenging to navigate.

  • Ghana’s tourism leadership: Can Kobby Mensah and Marilyn Houadjeto deliver the mandate?

Ghana’s tourism leadership: Can Kobby Mensah and Marilyn Houadjeto deliver the mandate?

This week has been a flurry of tourism news and appointments, with President John Dramani Mahama naming Marilyn Maame Afua Houadjeto as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) and Prof. Kobby Mensah as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC).

These appointments come at a critical juncture for Ghana’s tourism sector, as the country seeks to build on recent successes and address ongoing challenges. But can these two leaders deliver on the mandate to transform Ghana’s tourism industry?

A strategic duo for tourism transformation

The GTA and GTDC are the two most critical agencies under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, responsible for tourism promotion and marketing and tourism investment and development, respectively. Together, they form the backbone of Ghana’s tourism sector, making the appointments of Houadjeto and Mensah particularly significant.

In 2023, Ghana recorded1,148,002 international tourist arrivals (we are yet to receive 2024 figures)a figure that reflects the sector’s steady recovery post-pandemic and the success of initiatives like the “Year of Return” and “Beyond the Return.”However, it is important that Ghana set an ambitious target: to cross the2 million tourist arrivals mark by 2028 for the accompanying benefits of tourism income to the government, employment for tourism practitioners, and revenue for operators in the sector to be realised

Achieving this goal will require innovative strategies, robust marketing campaigns, and significant investments in tourism infrastructure – tasks that fall squarely on the shoulders of Houadjeto and Mensah.

Marilyn Maame Afua Houadjeto brings a wealth of experience in marketing, communications, and tourism development to her role at the GTA. Her career has been marked by strategic leadership and a passion for promoting Ghana’s cultural and natural assets. Additionally, her strong affiliation with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and her political acumen position her as a leader who can navigate complex stakeholder relationships and align the GTA’s goals with the government’s broader vision.

On the other hand, Prof. Kobby Mensah, a renowned academic and marketing strategist, brings a wealth of knowledge in branding and destination marketing to the GTDC. His expertise in research and data-driven strategies will be invaluable in identifying emerging trends and opportunities in the global tourism market. Together, Houadjeto and Mensah are expected to form a formidable team, driving both the visibility and growth of Ghana’s tourism sector.

    Building on a strong foundation

The appointments come on the heels of significant achievements under the leadership of Akwasi Agyeman, Houadjeto’s predecessor at the GTA. Agyeman’s tenure saw the successful launch of campaigns like the “Year of Return” and “Beyond the Return,” which positioned Ghana as a key destination for the African diaspora and boosted international tourist arrivals.

Houadjeto’s challenge will be to build on this legacy while introducing fresh ideas and strategies. Her expertise in marketing and communications will be crucial in crafting innovative campaigns to attract both international and domestic tourists. Meanwhile, Prof. Mensah’s role at the GTDC will focus on enhancing Ghana’s tourism offerings and creating unique experiences that appeal to diverse audiences.

Aligning with the NDC’s Blackstar Experience vision

A key aspect of the NDC’s manifesto is the Blackstar Experience, an initiative aimed at leveraging Ghana’s rich history, culture, and Pan-African identity to drive tourism growth. The Blackstar Experience seeks to position Ghana as the cultural and historical hub of Africa, celebrating its role in the continent’s liberation and its vibrant arts and heritage.

Houadjeto and Mensah are uniquely positioned to bring this vision to life. Houadjeto’s marketing expertise and political background make her an ideal leader to promote the Blackstar Experience through compelling storytelling and global campaigns. She can leverage Ghana’s culture, heritage, and historical landmarks, to create immersive experiences that resonate with the African diaspora and international tourists.

With his focus on tourism investment and development, Prof. Mensah can ensure that the infrastructure and facilities needed to support the Blackstar Experience are in place. This includes upgrading historical sites, developing cultural festivals, creating new attractions that reflect Ghana’s Pan-African legacy, and bringing the Marine Drive project to fruition. Together, they can ensure that the Blackstar Experience becomes a cornerstone of Ghana’s tourism strategy, driving both visitor numbers and economic impact, as promised by the NDC in opposition.

    Addressing challenges and seizing opportunities

Despite recent successes, Ghana’s tourism sector faces several challenges, including infrastructure gaps, service quality issues, and the need for greater investment in tourism development. The GTA and GTDC will play a pivotal role in addressing these challenges and unlocking the sector’s full potential.

Houadjeto’s ability to forge partnerships with key stakeholders, including the private sector and international organisations, will be critical in driving sustainable tourism growth. Similarly, Prof. Mensah’s focus on research and data-driven strategies will help the GTDC identify and capitalise on emerging trends in the global tourism market.

    A unified vision for success

The appointments of Houadjeto and Mensah align with the broader vision of Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie and President Mahama for the tourism sector. Minister Gomashie emphasised at her appointment hearing the need for innovative policies and programmes to make Ghana a top-tier tourism destination. With Houadjeto and Mensah at the helm of the GTA and GTDC, respectively, is the ministry well-positioned to implement its agenda effectively?

Together, these leaders can drive initiatives that promote cultural tourism, eco-tourism, and heritage tourism, while also addressing challenges such as infrastructure gaps and service quality. Their combined efforts will be critical in achieving the government’s goal of increasing tourism revenue, creating jobs, and showcasing Ghana’s rich cultural heritage to the world.

Conclusion: A new chapter for Ghana’s tourism sector

The appointments of Marilyn Afua Houadjeto and Prof. Kobby Mensah mark a new chapter in Ghana’s tourism journey. With their expertise, vision, and leadership, they are poised to build on the successes of the past and unlock the full potential of the sector. As they work in tandem with Hon.Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Ghana’s tourism industry is set to reach new heights, contributing significantly to the nation’s economic growth and global reputation.

The question remains: Can Marilyn Houadjeto and Kobby Mensah deliver the mandate? If their track records and strategic vision are anything to go by, the answer is a resounding yes. With the right support and collaboration, Ghana’s tourism sector is on the brink of a transformative era, one that will cement its place as a world-class destination and help achieve the ambitious target of 2 million tourist arrivals by 2028. That is my target, which I will be happy to see them exceed.

  • New Ebola outbreak confirmed by Uganda’s health authorities

New Ebola outbreak confirmed by Uganda’s health authorities

Uganda’s health authorities have confirmed a new Ebola outbreak in the capital, Kampala, following the death of a 32-year-old male nurse.

The nurse, who had symptoms such as high fever, chest pain, breathing difficulty, and bleeding from various body parts, passed away from multi-organ failure on Wednesday at Mulago National Hospital in the city center.

This incident marks the eighth reported Ebola outbreak in Uganda since the disease was first detected in the country in 2000.

The outbreak is caused by the Sudan Ebola Virus Disease (SUDV), a highly contagious form of hemorrhagic fever spread through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected individuals. It is one of the several strains of the Ebola virus responsible for outbreaks.

Before his death, the nurse visited several medical facilities and even consulted a traditional healer, but it wasn’t until later that the disease was diagnosed. He also sought treatment at a public hospital in Mbale, a town near the Kenyan border.

Health officials have identified 44 individuals who had close contact with the deceased, including 30 healthcare workers, and are actively tracing their whereabouts.

While authorities have deployed rapid response teams to manage the outbreak, the effort faces challenges due to the dense and heavily trafficked nature of Kampala, a city of more than four million residents. Kampala is a major travel hub connecting Uganda with neighboring countries like South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Rwanda.

Uganda’s most recent Ebola outbreak occurred in September 2022, centered in Mubende district, and was also caused by the Sudan strain. It was declared over after a four-month containment period.

There are six known Ebola virus types, with Zaire, Bundibugyo, Sudan, and Taï Forest being the ones that cause human infections. The Reston and Bombali strains mainly affect animals.

Unlike the Zaire strain, which has a vaccine available, there is no approved vaccine for Sudan Ebola.

Ebola symptoms typically begin with fever, fatigue, muscle aches, and a sore throat, followed by vomiting, diarrhea, rashes, and bleeding both internally and externally.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Ebola has an average fatality rate of about 50%, but in some outbreaks, the death rate has ranged from 25% to 90%, depending on various factors and how the outbreak is handled.

  • Tourism can become Ghana’s biggest income earner with the right investments – Mikki Osei Berko

Tourism can become Ghana’s biggest income earner with the right investments – Mikki Osei Berko

Ghanaian actor and media personality Mikki Osei Berko has echoed the significance of creative arts in shaping national identity and economic growth.

He emphasized that beyond minerals, tourism is Ghana’s second-highest income earner, and the media and creative arts are essential to its expansion.

“If you ask why people want to live in America, it’s what they have seen in films, what they have seen as a projection of the country,” Mikki stated, stressing that Ghana can leverage its creative industry to enhance its global appeal.

He further argued that with the right policies, the creative sector could surpass cocoa and gold as Ghana’s top income generator.

“If we do things right, it could become the highest national income earner. Having stakeholders like John Dumelo in policymaking positions will bring much-needed change,” he added.

He added, “So if we do things right, it could become the highest national income earner. Having stakeholders like John Dumelo in policymaking positions will bring much-needed change,” he said. “If they push for policies to develop and sustain the creative arts, it could become Ghana’s top income earner, surpassing even cocoa and gold.”

However, he lamented the lack of policies in Ghana that supports local content and talent development, resulting in the dominance of foreign programs on TV stations.

“The reason we have not made inroads is because we have not backed it with policy. Do we even talk about it in parliament? Do we make policies about it?” he said.

He continued, “Now you see TV stations broadcasting foreign programmes. That’s where sponsorship and financing come in. If you have the media space being pushed to use Ghanaian talents and Ghanaian products on their screens, they will be forced to find sponsorship to develop the industry. But there’s no policy like that. I hear there is, but whether it is being adhered to or not is another question altogether.”

He also established that the creative arts sector is not only a cultural asset but also a huge source of employment, citing how film and commercial productions can employ dozens of people on set.

  • Some Ghanaians have reported me to US authorities for my deportation – Twene Jonas

Some Ghanaians have reported me to US authorities for my deportation – Twene Jonas

Ghanaian social media personality Twene Jonas claims that U.S. immigration officers recently showed up at his home to deport him.

In a video, he alleged that some Ghanaians had repeatedly reported him to authorities with false accusations.

Known for openly criticizing Ghanaian leaders, Twene Jonas expressed frustration, saying his fellow Ghanaians were trying to bring him down.

He believes this attitude is a major reason why Ghana struggles to develop.

According to him, some people are being paid to report immigrants to U.S. authorities, taking advantage of the ongoing deportation crackdown to make money.

His claims come as the U.S. ramps up deportations. During Trump’s presidency, removal flights increased significantly, with officials calling it the biggest deportation effort in U.S. history.

Although the focus has been on undocumented immigrants with criminal records, reports suggest that others have also been affected.

  • I’m a choir master, but I have the gift of writing love songs – Akwaboah

I’m a choir master, but I have the gift of writing love songs – Akwaboah

Musicians often face social stigmatization when their spiritual lives are linked to their careers in the music industry.

Renowned highlife musician and songwriter, Akwaboah, has addressed this issue, stating that while he serves as a choir master and keyboardist in his church, his music is primarily focused on love songs rather than gospel.

“Most of my songs are not gospel, they are love-related. I’m still doing the Lord’s work in a diverse way, different, but I might not be a gospel artiste,” he explained.

Despite his long-standing commitment to church music, Akwaboah believes his true gift lies in writing love songs. “I do love songs. I’m still the same keyboardist, the same choir master, but my gift is writing love songs. I don’t miss choir rehearsal,” he said.

Beyond his personal music, Akwaboah has contributed to the success of many artistes, including Efya, Kofi Sarpong, and Sarkodie.

One of his most notable songwriting credits is Becca’s hit song “Daa Ke Daa.” However, he revealed that he composed the song for free, as he had no knowledge of payment for songwriting at the time.

“I wrote ‘Daa Ke Daa’ by Becca for free, I didn’t know anything about payment at that time,” he stated in an interview on Daybreak Hitz with DJ Slim.

As a young artiste, he found joy in seeing his work played on TV and radio, believing that the exposure would help his career.

Akwaboah admitted that at the start of his career, he wrote many songs for other artistes without expecting payment.

  • I’m gradually preparing for ministry – Trigmatic

I’m gradually preparing for ministry – Trigmatic

Ghanaian musician Trigmatic has observed that Ghanaians generally do not support albums, especially in the gospel music genre.

He pointed out that most people do not listen to full albums, which discourages him from focusing too much on them. However, he ensures that every album he releases includes at least two or three gospel songs. Despite his efforts to promote them on gospel radio stations, he admitted that it has not been successful.

Beyond music, Trigmatic has also expressed a growing interest in ministry. While he has not specifically planned to become a pastor, he remains open to the possibility of taking on pastoral work in the future.

He emphasized the need to be fully prepared before stepping into such a role, acknowledging the challenges that come with it. He does not want to feel pressured but is gradually preparing himself should the opportunity arise.

As a dedicated member of his church, he actively shares the gospel with people he meets. He noted that his love for God has deepened over time and that he is eager to be involved in ministry in different ways.

“I haven’t planned to become a pastor, but I would love to be part of ministry in various ways. My love for God has grown, and if the time comes, I’ll be happy to take on that responsibility. However, I don’t want to rush into it because it’s not easy,” he shared in an interview on Hitz FM on 30 January 2025.

  • I’ll amend laws to incorporate noise pollution; audit land degradation – Murtala

I’ll amend laws to incorporate noise pollution; audit land degradation – Murtala

Minister-designate for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, has pledged to take steps to incorporate noise pollution into environmental laws.

Responding to concerns about combating noise pollution during his vetting today, he assured the Appointments Committee that regulatory measures could be implemented to address the issue.

“If you check the EPA law, it seems to me that there isn’t any aspect of noise, if you like, pollution in it. That is something I would want to take a second look at. If there can be some amendment, just in the new law that we can incorporate noise pollution into that act. And I think that is also something that will go a long way to help,” he stated.

He emphasized that tackling noise pollution effectively would require collaboration with key stakeholders, including traditional authorities, local government institutions, and the chieftaincy.

Mr Murtala also announced plans to conduct a nationwide audit of land degradation as part of efforts to tackle environmental destruction and formulate effective policies.

He referenced a World Bank-funded project carried out by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the ministry, which evaluated the extent of environmental destruction in Ghana.

According to him, the findings revealed severe damage to water bodies and forests, with the economic impact estimated at approximately 10% of the country’s GDP.

He believes a comprehensive audit would provide concrete data to guide interventions, rather than the reactive approach currently being taken.

“…So what I even intend to do is to take an audit of the environmental degradation that we have had in this country. Because if you have an audit that is done, then you have something in hand that you can work with. But it seems to me that we are engaged in fire fighting. You cannot specifically say this is the level of destruction of the activities of galamsey and other human activities to our environment. So the first thing I want to do is to see if we can have a national audit to be able to determine the percentage of the environment that is destroyed taking into consideration the work that was funded to be done by the world Bank and EPA,” Minister-designate explained.

Murtala Muhammed has further argued that the fight against illegal mining widely known as galamsey should be led by the Ministry of Environment rather than the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.

“If you ask me my personal view, I think the issue of fighting galamsey should be led by the Ministry of Environment, not the Ministry of Lands. The Ministry of Lands has been accused, rightly or wrongly, of being a participant in the galamsey menace. So it shouldn’t be the Ministry of Lands taking the lead,” he added.

  • YEA must be more than sanitation jobs – Youth Minister

YEA must be more than sanitation jobs – Youth Minister

Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, has emphasized the need for a broader vision for the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), urging that it be transformed into an innovation hub rather than just a program focused on sanitation-related jobs.

Speaking on the need to empower young people, Mr Opare Addo noted that the YEA should serve as a center for nurturing ideas, providing financial support, and equipping young people with the necessary resources to make meaningful contributions to national development.

“I believe the YEA is bigger than just putting people out there to sweep. I believe YEA is bigger than just looking at the issue of sanitation. YEA should be more or less a hub. An innovation hub for young people where ideas are generated, financing, looked for and resourced. So that young people can contribute meaningfully to the development of this country,” he stated.

Highlighting President John Mahama’s commitment to youth development, the minister stressed that the establishment of a dedicated ministry for youth empowerment aligns with the president’s vision of fostering sustainable growth among the younger generation.

“And this is what the vision of His Excellency stands for. President Mahama wants to empower people. So it is no mistake that he decided to set up a ministry solely for youth development and empowerment. The key word here is empowerment.

“Just developing the people and not empowering them means nothing. And so we must look at how we can empower our people. So that when they move away from us, they are able to stand on their own and add on meaningfully to the development of this country,” he added.

Attorney-General withdraws charges against ex-BoG governor Asiama

Attorney-General Dominic Ayine has officially moved to drop all charges against the former Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama.

Mr. Asiama had been facing trial in two separate cases linked to the collapse of UniBank and UT Bank.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Yvonne Atakora Obuobisa, submitted the notice of withdrawal to the trial court, signaling the end of proceedings against him.

“Please take note that at the next hearing of this suit, the Prosecutor, on the instructions of the Honorable Attorney-General, will withdraw all offences and/or charges against Johnson Asiama under sections 59(1), (2)(b)(ii), and (5) of the Criminal and Other Offences (Procedure) Act (1960), Act 30.”

Since 2020, Asiama and several co-defendants had been prosecuted for fraudulent breach of trust, money laundering, conspiracy, and violations of the Bank of Ghana Act. However, the Attorney-General dropped Asiama’s case due to insufficient evidence.

Before the withdrawal of Mr. Asiama’s case, former COCOBOD CEO Dr. Stephen Kwabena Opuni and businessman Seidu Agongo were also acquitted and discharged of all criminal charges brought against them by the State.

For the past eight years, the duo had faced 27 charges in court, including allegedly defrauding the state by false pretenses, willfully causing financial loss to the state, and contravening public procurement laws, despite consistently denying the allegations.

However, counsel for Opuni and Agongo, Samuel Cudjoe and Benson Nutsukpui, confirmed to the court that they had been served with the withdrawal notice.

Additionally, the Attorney-General has also dropped criminal charges against former National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo and the party’s Communications Officer, Anthony Kwaku Boahen.

Meanwhile, former Finance Minister Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, his son, and other executives still face money laundering charges, with only Asiama being cleared of all accusations.

Breakdown of security within Parliament worrying – Afenyo-Markin to Clerk, Marshall

Tensions are mounting in Parliament as the approval process for ministerial nominees becomes increasingly contentious. The Minority has vowed to resist any attempts to force through nominees without proper scrutiny, despite what they describe as intimidation tactics.

Speaking at a press conference today at Parliament, Afenyo-Markin insisted that the Minority would not back down. With both sides bracing for a heated battle in the approval process.

According to Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, members of the opposition were subjected to deliberate efforts to pressure them into submission.

He alleged that security within Parliament’s precincts had broken down, citing an incident the previous night at the committee room.

“We are also beginning to observe a breakdown of security, law, and order within the precincts of Parliament, especially last night at the committee room, by some NDC thugs. These thugs were hired, organized, and brought in to come and intimidate the Minority. But let me tell you, NDC, we are few, but a mighty few,” he declared.

Beyond security concerns, Afenyo-Markin accused the Majority of attempting to push through nominees without proper vetting. He argued that the ruling party had reduced the process to a mere formality, undermining parliamentary scrutiny.

“We are beginning to observe attempts by the Majority to force through some nominees and railroad them through a rubber-stamp process,” he stated.

Majority forcing in some ministerial nominees for a rubber-stamp process – Minority Leader claims

The Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has raised concerns over what he describes as an attempt by the Majority to push through some ministerial nominees without due process for vetting yesterday.

During a press conference today at the precinct of Parliament, Afenyo-Markin claimed that the ruling party (NDC) disregarded proper parliamentary scrutiny and turning the approval process into a mere formality.

“We are beginning to observe attempts by the majority to force through some nominees and railroad them through a rubber-stamp process,” he stated, emphasizing the Minority’s discontent with the handling of the vetting procedure.

Beyond the approval process, the Minority Leader also alleged that there was a deliberate effort to intimidate opposition MPs.

He pointed to a security lapse within Parliament’s precincts, particularly an incident at the committee room the previous night.

According to him, individuals he described as “NDC thugs” were brought in to disrupt proceedings and put pressure on Minority members.

The Minority remains firm in its stance, vowing not to be swayed by intimidation or rushed processes. Meanwhile, tensions continue to rise as both sides of the House prepare for what is expected to be a contentious approval process for the nominees.

  • ‘No one born of a woman can bring me down’ – Prophet Ogyaba to critics

‘No one born of a woman can bring me down’ – Prophet Ogyaba to critics

Prophet Emmanuel Akwasi Boakye, widely known as ‘Ogyaba,’ has addressed those criticizing him over his recent controversy.

Speaking on a podcast on January 30, 2025, he stated that the heavy backlash on social media does not affect him.

Reacting to Evangelist Diana Asamoah’s harsh remarks, he stressed that neither she nor anyone else has the authority to judge him for his past actions.

Prophet Ogyaba added that as long as God and his wife have forgiven him, the opinions of others do not matter to him.

“Those people online who are my enemies, I don’t give a damn about them. I am not living my life to suit you. I haven’t killed anyone; the only mistake I made was sinning against my God and wife, and they’ve forgiven me,” he said.

Ogyaba continued, “I’m sure you haven’t even had a bath this evening, and you’re chasing after someone’s husband. I heard Diana Asamoah insulting me. She should be careful because what happened to me could happen to her. Is it in Ghana’s constitution that people who have an affair should be killed? If I’ve learned from my mistake, who are you to judge me? If I couldn’t deal with this, I would face it later. No person born of a woman can bring me down.”

Addressing Diana Asamoah directly, Ogyaba issued a word of caution to her.

“Diana Asamoah, you haven’t been married yet. You’ll one day get married and have children. If you think you won’t face any challenges, who are you to judge me? When I heard her insulting me, I was surprised,” he added.

Prophet Ogyaba revealed that a fellow minister is also going through a similar ordeal, being “blackmailed” by a woman he was involved with.

“There is a pastor in Kasoa who called me crying about going through the same thing. I told him to come out and speak his truth. He cried to the point where I forgot my own issue just to console him. So, when I heard Diana Asamoah speaking about me, I just said to God, ‘Please look after her,’” he concluded.

    Background

Former lover of Prophet Ogyaba, has gone public with a series of accusations, claiming he abandoned her, threatened her life, and was involved in an extramarital affair that led to a pregnancy.

To support her claims, she released audios and videos, seemingly seeking public sympathy while portraying herself as a victim.

    Ogyaba’s Side of the Story

In response, Prophet Ogyaba admitted to having an affair with Cassie but stressed that, like anyone else, he is not without flaws.

During a live discussion with TikTok influencers, he explained that their relationship turned sour when Cassie announced she was expecting twins and began making excessive demands, including moving into his home.

He claimed he had already spent millions on her and even paid GH¢60,000 for her rent and GH¢20,000 for furnishings, as his wife was due to return.

Prophet Ogyaba disputed Cassie’s claim of living with him for four months, stating it was only a month. After she moved out, he said she later requested money for medical treatment related to fibroids and even asked for funds to buy a pregnancy pillow, raising his suspicions.

He further alleged that Cassie continued to demand money from him, but after he sent her a cease-and-desist letter, her uncle later informed him that she had lost the pregnancy due to a fall.

Prophet Ogyaba, however, believes the entire ordeal is an attempt to blackmail him.

He urged the public not to rush to judge him, reminding everyone that, despite his role as a man of God, he remains human.

Petrol to increase by 2.93% from February 1 – COPEC

Fuel prices are expected to increase slightly, according to the Chamber for Petroleum Consumers (COPEC).

Commencing Starting February 1, 2025, Petrol is likely to go up by about 2.93%, bringing the price to GH¢14.70 per litre. Diesel will also see a 3% rise, pushing its price to GH¢15.87 per litre. The price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is projected to reach GH¢17.22 per litre.

COPEC is urging the government to reduce taxes on LPG or provide subsidies to make it more affordable. They argue that cheaper LPG would encourage more people to use it instead of firewood, which harms the environment.

Currently, about 21.34% of the price of petrol and diesel is made up of taxes and levies. COPEC is calling for a review of these charges to ease the financial burden on consumers. They have also suggested adjusting taxes based on changes in the exchange rate between the cedi and the dollar.

Additionally, COPEC is asking the government to take steps to revive the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR). They believe this will help reduce the importation of finished fuel products, which sometimes come with quality issues.

Rumours that A Plus is the father of my child baseless, untrue – MC Yaa Yeboah

Media personality MC Yaa Yeboah has dismissed claims that politician and musician A Plus is the father of her child, calling the rumours false and unfounded.

Speaking in an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra FM on January 30, 2025, Yaa Yeboah expressed frustration over the persistent speculation, stressing that such baseless allegations are often used to undermine young female journalists.

“Recently, there were rumours speculating that A Plus is the father of my daughter. That is unpleasant because when I went to America, someone even approached me with the same question. It’s a baseless rumour and not true,” she stated.

She noted that it has become a pattern in the media industry for rising female figures to be targeted with fabricated stories linking them to well-known men. According to her, these tactics are meant to tarnish reputations and discredit women making strides in their careers.

“I am a grown woman, and I make decisions for myself, and I will take accountability for my decisions, so these rumours are unpleasant,” she added.

Addressing why she had not taken legal action earlier, Yaa Yeboah explained that she initially saw it as a waste of time. However, she has now reconsidered and plans to pursue legal measures against those spreading the falsehoods.

“I wanted to take such people to court and after careful thought, I realised it would be a waste of resources. I decided to let it go at the time, but moving forward, I will pursue legal redress. Most of these people spreading the rumours live abroad, in places like the UK and the USA,” she revealed.

Ghanaian music duo DopeNation and singer Kuami Eugene are at the center of a growing online feud, exchanging sharp words and playful jabs ahead of their upcoming music releases.

The tension escalated after DopeNation made a bold statement about Kuami Eugene’s exit from Lynx Entertainment, referencing the so-called “Lynx curse”—a belief that artists who leave the label struggle to maintain their momentum. Their remarks followed Lynx CEO Richie Mensah’s confirmation that Kuami Eugene had officially parted ways with the label.

In response, Kuami Eugene took to social media to dismiss DopeNation’s comments, accusing them of using his name for publicity. He referred to their upcoming project as a “gym song” and vowed to deal with them after his birthday release.

  • Salinko urges creative industry to hold Mahama accountable, not Tourism Minister

Salinko urges creative industry to hold Mahama accountable, not Tourism Minister

Kumawood actor Abraham Kofi Davis, popularly known as Salinko, has urged industry players in the creative arts sector to direct their concerns toward President John Dramani Mahama rather than the Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie.

Speaking on Onua Showtime, Salinko emphasized that Dzifa Gomashie’s role in the ministry is largely administrative and that real policy decisions affecting the creative arts industry rest in the hands of the president. According to him, if creatives want meaningful change, they must hold Mahama accountable for the sector’s growth.

“I know that by the end of John Mahama’s four years, we will still come back here and have the same conversation… If we want someone to do something for us in the creative arts industry, then we should focus on Mahama because Dzifa will only head the ministry. When Mark Okraku Mantey was the Deputy Minister, what did he do for the creative arts industry? I checked and he did nothing for us,” Salinko asserted.

His remarks highlight longstanding frustrations within the creative arts industry, where policymakers often promise reforms, but little change is seen on the ground. By shifting the focus to President Mahama, Salinko aims to spark a broader conversation about the need for direct presidential commitment to the sector’s development.

In addition, Salinko called on Mahama to involve private sector developers in the creative arts industry. He argued that direct engagement with the private sector would prevent bureaucratic delays and ensure faster implementation of policies that benefit creatives.

“I know John Dramani Mahama has the creative arts industry at heart, so I will call on him to give us private sector developers so we can work with them directly without necessarily having to go through Dzifa Gomashie or any other bureaucracy,” he stated.

His comments raise an important question: Will the next administration take a more hands-on approach in supporting creative arts, or will the industry continue to wait in vain for structural reforms?

  • New artistes must rethink charges for overseas promoters – Kwabena Kwabena

New artistes must rethink charges for overseas promoters – Kwabena Kwabena

Ghanaian highlife musician Kwabena Kwabena has expressed concern over how new-generation artistes charge promoters based abroad, urging them to be more considerate in their pricing.

Speaking in an interview on Accra FM with Nana Romeo on January 29, 2025, Kwabena Kwabena pointed out that there is a growing disconnect between artistes and event organizers outside Ghana, largely due to a lack of proper communication.

“I think there is a miscommunication on the part of the new crop of artistes. Those of us who have been in the industry for quite some time understand how these things work, so promoters abroad do not find it difficult working with us. But these new artistes are living in a certain mindset that needs to be corrected,” he said.

He explained that unless an artiste is backed by an international record label with the capacity to promote them on a global scale, they may struggle to understand the complexities of organizing shows abroad. This, he noted, is one of the reasons many foreign promoters are pulling back from working with Ghanaian artistes.

“In recent times, if you are not an artiste who is on an international record label that has the capacity to pitch you to the rest of the world… the new generation of artistes do not have all these technicalities at hand, which is why the promoters out there are pulling back. Also, there should be proper communication with both parties,” he added.

Kwabena Kwabena further noted that Ghanaian event organizers abroad often cater primarily to Ghanaian audiences, which limits their revenue streams. High ticket prices, coupled with the smaller venue sizes, make it difficult for them to generate enough income from these events.

“When it comes to Ghanaian promoters out there, they only sell the shows to Ghanaians there, and that is what the artistes here do not get. Also, Ghanaians there find it difficult to attend events with higher rates. Again, the auditoriums that they use for our shows are not large… They do not get enough in terms of revenue, so that should also inform how an artiste should charge them,” he said.

His comments highlight a growing need for artistes to reconsider their approach when working with international promoters. He believes that fostering better communication and understanding the realities of event planning abroad will create a more sustainable relationship between artistes and the Ghanaian music industry’s global stakeholders.

They’re not cursed, It’s just tough – Richie on life of artistes who leave Lynx Entertainment

Lynx Entertainment CEO, Richie Mensah, has dismissed claims within the creative arts industry that artistes who part ways with his record label struggle in their careers.

Speaking on Hitz FM, he clarified that Lynx Entertainment is not under a curse, attributing the challenges former signees face to insufficient investment and effort rather than any supernatural influence.

“The music business is hard. Lynx Group has over 60 employees, and it is even difficult. People see the result and think it is easy for us, but it takes a lot of brainstorming, work, and investment to keep us where we are. When an artiste leaves that setup and they are on their own, it is difficult. They are not cursed; it is difficult,” he said.

Richie Mensah added that there are artistes who have left Lynx Entertainment and have become successful in the creative arts industry.

“Artistes have left Lynx and they did well. But what happens is, it’s hard to maintain that level because if you initially had 60 people working on your project… when you leave and you don’t have the power to employ as many people, that is when the input and output drop drastically. Sometimes, we should also stop judging certain things by success,” he added.

Over the years, Lynx Entertainment has been home to several artistes, including Kuami Eugene, DopeNation, and MzVee, who have since moved on from the label.

At present, the record label has Kidi, DJ Vyrusky, and DSL signed under a 360 deal.

  • Be a man and defend yourself, you disrespected an arm of govt – Annoh-Dompreh to Barker-Vormawor

Be a man and defend yourself, you disrespected an arm of govt – Annoh-Dompreh to Barker-Vormawor

Majority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh challenged activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor for failing to defend his allegations that the Appointment Committee was accepting money to approve Mahama’s appointees.

Oliver Barker-Vormawor has apologized ‘profusely’ for his allegation of bribery against the Appointments Committee of Parliament.

But in a fiery confrontation in Parliament, Annoh-Dompreh urged Barker-Vormawor to show the same boldness in defending his original statements, rather than hiding behind an apology.

“You should be bold! As bold as you were when you were putting out the statement. You should be bold to defend what you put out as a man! That is what you should be doing!” Annoh-Dompreh charged, dismissing Barker-Vormawor’s apology as insincere.

Annoh-Dompreh questioned the sincerity of Barker-Vormawor’s apology, arguing that it came only after Parliament’s invitation, suggesting he would not have apologized otherwise.

He also took issue with Barker-Vormawor’s continued social media activity despite being summoned.

“You go on social media to make all manner of comments. So at what point did you realize that a particular post was not attributable to you, and yet you stayed until you got an invitation from Parliament before you responded? Even after the invitation, you still went on and made further posts.”

Describing the apology as an afterthought, Annoh-Dompreh accused Barker-Vormawor of making baseless allegations against Parliament.

“You have no evidence of the allegation you threw to Parliament and the committee, and you are just on the folic of your own to disrespect Parliament and thought that nobody was going to do anything to you.”

The heated exchange underscores the growing friction between outspoken activists and state institutions, raising broader questions about accountability, free speech, and political discourse in Ghana.

  • Barker-Vormawor was acting as a whistleblower – Lawyer

Barker-Vormawor was acting as a whistleblower – Lawyer

Lawyer Nana Ato Dazie has defended his client, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, following allegations that the activist accused Parliament’s Appointments Committee of accepting bribes to approve government nominees.

Oliver Barker-Vormawor was summoned yesterday to appear before the Appointments Committee of Parliament to substantiate allegations.

Addressing the Appointmnent Committee, Mr Dazie dismissed claims that Barker-Vormawor’s remarks were a direct attack on the Committee.

Instead, he argued that the statement could be interpreted in multiple ways, depending on the reader’s perspective.

“The statement that we see is clearly can be seen as a double meaning or interpretation depending upon who reads it. But Certainly not a matter attacking the appointment committee at all. Indeed if it is anything at all to go by, it is a statement of a whistleblower saying that some things are happening,” he stated.

He further emphasized that Ghana’s Whistleblower Act encourages individuals to expose wrongdoing when they witness or hear about it.

Thus, Barker-Vormawor was merely fulfilling this civic duty by shedding light on alleged misconduct rather than making baseless accusations.

My wife mocks and calls her “childish – Ogyaba on ex-side chick brouhaha

Prophet Ogyaba has affirmed that, despite the controversies surrounding him, his wife remains unwavering in her support.

He noted that while many have been criticizing him, his wife has been his source of comfort, reassuring him and helping him navigate the situation.

These remarks came in response to allegations made by his former mistress, Cassie.

According to Prophet Ogyaba, when his wife came across Cassie’s videos online, she dismissed them as immature and found humor in the situation.

“When my wife saw the videos from the girl, she called her childish. My wife said instead of Cassie staying quiet and enjoying her position as a side chick, she wanted to overtake her and be promoted to wife. We laughed about it, and that was the end of our discussion on the matter,” he said on TikTok.

Prophet Ogyaba later shared a video of himself and his wife ‘lovey-doveying’ in the car and labeling her “First Lady” in an affectionate manner.

    What Cassie said

Cassie, the lead chorister at Ogyaba’s church, took to social media with serious allegations, including claims of neglect, threats to her life, and exposing their extramarital affair, including a pregnancy.

She has supported her claims with a series of audios and videos, trying to gain public sympathy and portray herself as the victim.

    Ogyaba’s response

Prophet Ogyaba acknowledged the affair but stressed that, as a human, he is not without flaws.

During a live session with TikTok influencers, he revealed that tensions arose when Cassie claimed to be pregnant with twins, became overly demanding, and insisted on moving into his house.

He mentioned that after spending a fortune on her, he eventually paid GH¢60,000 for her rent and GH¢20,000 for furnishings, as his wife was due to return.

Prophet Ogyaba refuted Cassie’s claim of living with him for four months, clarifying that it was only a month.

After she moved out, he said Cassie requested money for fibroid treatment and even a pregnancy pillow, among other things, but he began to grow suspicious.

He further stated that she continued to take money from him, and when he issued a cease-and-desist letter, her uncle later alleged she had miscarried due to a fall.

However, he believes Cassie’s accusations are nothing more than an attempt to extort him.

He urged the public not to rush to judge him, reminding them that, despite being a man of God, he is still human.

NDC’s only mandate is to build the Ghana we all want, not witch-hunting – Opare Addo

Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, has reaffirmed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has not returned to power with the intention of targeting anyone.

He emphasized that President John Dramani Mahama’s administration is focused on collaborating with Ghanaians to build the nation they all aspire to.

Opare Addo shared this message during his visit to the National Service Authority on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.

“The NDC is not here to witch-hunt anybody. President Mahama is here so that we all build a Ghana we all want. For us to achieve this we must be very intentional and very strategic about what we do.

“We also need to look at our reputation as an institution and an organization. The last few months, the name National Service has not been good out here, and so together we can all clean up for it to become the world-class organization that we set out to be.”

“I am here to encourage all of you that we are here to work with everyone. We will want to achieve the aims and objectives of why this authority was set up. I understand the challenges of moving from being a scheme to an authority,” he said.

Pablo, as he is popularly called, indicated that his government believes in young people and giving them the needed opportunity to excel, and that is what he intends to do as Minister in charge of Youth Development and Empowerment.

Social media users condemn Petroleum Commission CEO for calling NPP MP ‘silly’ in Parliament

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Commission, Emeafa Hardcastle, has come under fire from social media users for calling Nsawam Adoagyiri MP, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, “silly” during a parliamentary sitting.

A viral video shared by Channel One TV captures the altercation, which occurred during the Appointments Committee’s proceedings on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.

The exchange began when Hardcastle referred to the MP’s caucus in Parliament as “micro,” a remark that Annoh-Dompreh took offense to.

The Minority Chief Whip allegedly threatened to take action against Hardcastle in response, but she dismissed his remarks and later labeled him “silly.”

Her comment has since sparked criticism on social media, with users describing her conduct as arrogant and inappropriate.

“The arrogance has started ooo,” one user commented.

“Emefa Hardcastle has taken her uncouth behavior to Parliament, so uncultured,” another wrote.

“This behavior from the lady is very disrespectful. It is entirely wrong to use such unkind words toward a Member of Parliament,” a third user lamented.

Others expressed similar sentiments, “What the hell? She is very disrespectful and arrogant. Calling an honourable Member of Parliament ‘silly’ unprovoked? Girl wei mbu neho koraa!”

“How do you call your colleague ‘silly’? That’s bad.”

“This is completely unfair, it reeks of arrogance and disrespect. You cannot approach the High Court and act in this manner. We must extend the same level of respect to the Parliament of Ghana, even if we disagree with their decisions.”

“And this woman wants to lead an institution as CEO? She thinks being hardcore and insulting people in public shows she can do the job.”

Water crisis threatens cholera outbreak in Cape Coast – Health Directorate warns

The Central Regional Health Directorate has warned that the scarcity of clean water in the capital is posing an alarming threat of cholera outbreak in the Cape Coast Municipality.

According to health officials, the ongoing water shortage, which has persisted for weeks, has left many households, schools, and healthcare facilities struggling to access potable water.

This has led to poor sanitation and hygiene conditions, creating a fertile ground for cholera and other infectious diseases to spread.

“We haven’t had water for over three months,” lamented a resident of Nkanfoa. “We are compelled to buy water from tanker services, and it’s really expensive. Not everyone can afford it.”

In areas dominated by students, such as Amomoma, Bonkus, and Apewosika, the crisis is impacting academic life. Doris Dorgu, a university student from Bonkus, shared her struggles:

“We sometimes have to walk long distances just to fetch water, and it’s affecting our studies. There are days we miss lectures because we have to prioritize getting water.”

Dr. Joojo Cobinah, Deputy Health Director of Public Health for the Central Region, warned that the water shortage could create the ideal conditions for a cholera outbreak if not swiftly addressed. “If immediate interventions are not made to resolve this water shortage, more people will fall victim to the disease,” he cautioned.

“We urge residents to observe strict hygiene practices, including drinking clean water and proper handwashing. We are also calling on duty bearers to provide alternative water supplies to avert any possible surge,” he added.

Health officials are however, warning that without immediate action, hundreds of residents could be at risk of infection.

As of January 26, 2025, cholera cases had been reported in 20 out of the 22 districts in the Central Region, claiming 14 lives. Of the 1,929 suspected cases, 180 have been confirmed.

Dr. Cobinah emphasized the need for vigilance and collective action to contain the outbreak, noting that surveillance and monitoring efforts have been intensified as part of an emergency response.

Many of the deaths, he revealed, could have been avoided, as several patients arrived at health facilities in critical condition or had already passed away before receiving medical attention.

With the situation worsening, calls for preventive measures have grown louder. Public health officials are urging residents to prioritize hygiene, similar to the practices adopted during the COVID-19 pandemic, to curb further transmission.

Dr. Cobinah further advised residents to seek immediate medical care if they experience symptoms such as acute diarrhoea and dehydration, stressing that early treatment can prevent severe complications and fatalities.

All mining activities in and around water bodies nationwide should cease immediately – EPA

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a stern directive ordering all individuals and entities engaged in illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, and other unauthorized operations in water bodies to cease all activities immediately.

In a statement, the agency cited Sections 2 and 3b(ii) of the Environmental Protection Act, 2025 (Act 1124) as the legal basis for the order.

“In accordance with Section 2 and 3b(ii) of the Environmental Protection Act, 2025 (Act 1124), the EPA hereby issues this urgent directive to all individuals and entities involved in illegal mining (galamsey) and other unauthorized operations in water bodies, both small-scale and large-scale, and they are instructed to cease all activities with immediate effect,” the statement read.

To ensure compliance, the EPA has pledged to collaborate with the Ministry of Environment, Science, and Technology (MEST), the Minerals Commission, the Water Resources Commission, and security agencies.

“We will seize equipment used in illegal mining operations, intensify surveillance and inspections of mining sites, and prosecute individuals and organizations violating environmental laws,” the statement added.

The public is urged to report any illegal mining activities through the EPA’s dedicated hotline: 0506699466 / 0506694760.

Prof. Klutse reiterated the EPA’s dedication to protecting Ghana’s environment for both present and future generations, calling on citizens and stakeholders to join the fight against illegal mining.

“Together, we can protect our water bodies and secure a healthier and more prosperous future for all Ghanaians,” she stressed.

  • There was an attempt to bribe Appointment Committee but it failed – Mahama Ayariga

There was an attempt to bribe Appointment Committee but it failed – Mahama Ayariga

The Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has revealed that a businessman attempted to bribe the Appointments Committee of Parliament; however, the move was swiftly rejected.

This revelation follows allegations by lawyer and activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor, who claimed that ministerial nominees were being asked to pay bribes in exchange for parliamentary approval.

According to the Majority Leader, the businessman attempted to mobilise funds to influence the approval of a ministerial nominee, despite there being no requirement for such payments.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, January 28, Mr. Ayariga stressed that the Appointments Committee does not demand money from nominees and urged anyone with evidence of bribery to come forward.

“I actually met somebody who operates in a sector, and the person said, ‘Oh, our minister is being considered this week, so we want to go and help him.’ And I said, ‘Has the sector minister asked you to come and help him?’ He said, ‘No, no, we just want to come together and help him,’” Mr Ayariga narrated.

He recounted how he immediately shut down the idea, warning the individual that such mobilisation was unnecessary and would not be accepted.

“I told the person, ‘I don’t think there’s a need for you and people in your sector to mobilise money that you are going to help your minister, because we won’t even accept it.’” he said.

His revelation comes in response to allegations by lawyer and activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor, who claimed that ministerial nominees were being asked to pay bribes in exchange for parliamentary approval.

Mr Ayariga dismissed the claims and called on Barker-Vormawor to provide proof.

“I had wind of what he said, and then the chairman reached out. I said, ‘Call him, let him come. And if he has anything and he can substantiate it, we need to deal with it openly and transparently,’” he stated.

The former Sports Minister stressed that the Appointments Committee operates with integrity and that no nominee needs to pay money to secure approval.

“You spent a few days on the committee. What personal knowledge or otherwise do you have to share on these claims being made—that some monies were paid to members of the committee to approve some of the nominees?

“I am unaware of any such thing. That’s why I think he should come. Maybe he has something, because, you see, in this country, all sorts of things happen.”

He pointed out that with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) having a majority in Parliament, there is no incentive for such payments.

“NDC is in power. We have 184 members, and then we have four other independent members. Two are actually NDC members. The others are not originally NDC but have agreed to do business with NDC.

“We can approve anybody. So no nominee needs to give anybody any money, because as a party, you will be whipped in line to vote according to the party’s interest,” he explained.

Mr Ayariga further clarified that unless a nominee faces a serious issue raised through a petition, they are almost certain to be approved.

“Unless there’s something fundamentally wrong with you, and in that instance, if it’s revealed through a petition or something of that sort, we will go back to His Excellency. ‘Please, Excellency, we know your standards.

“This guy doesn’t meet your standards. Can you withdraw the nomination?’ Otherwise, every other person, most of them, are sitting members of Parliament, and constitutionally, at the barest minimum, they are qualified to be ministers of state.”

Reaffirming his stance on transparency, Mahama Ayariga encouraged anyone with credible evidence of wrongdoing to present it.

“If he has anything about some money being handed over to Appointments Committee members, he should just come, and then we’ll look into it. And I encourage it—not just this instance, but any other instance—because we want to build institutions that have integrity, that are credible, and that Ghanaians have trust and confidence in,” he emphasized.

The Majority Leader expressed scepticism about the allegations but remained open to investigation.

“I have not seen it. So I’ll be surprised if he comes up with anything tomorrow. I’ll be surprised. But we encourage every other person to come forward if they have evidence.”

Eliminate bureaucratic hurdles and improve efficiency – Mahama to AU

President John Dramani Mahama has called on the African Union (AU) to address bureaucratic inefficiencies and enhance its decision-making processes to better respond to Africa’s challenges.

Speaking at a High-Level Retreat on African Union Institutional Reforms held at Kenya’s State House in Nairobi, Mahama emphasized the need for the AU to evolve into a more agile, efficient, and impactful institution.

“The African Union must evolve to become more agile, efficient, and impactful in addressing these new challenges. The AU must streamline its decision-making processes to ensure that they are timely and results-oriented,” Mahama said.

He highlighted that bureaucratic inefficiencies and overlapping mandates within the AU undermine the confidence of African citizens and international partners.

“Bureaucratic inefficiencies undermine the confidence of our citizens and international partners. Overlapping roles hinder effective decision-making. By streamlining AU commissions, clarifying roles, and eliminating redundancies, we can establish a more agile organization better equipped to address the evolving needs of our continent,” Mahama explained.

The retreat provided a platform for leaders to deliberate on institutional reforms needed to strengthen the AU’s governance and operational efficiency.

“Africa’s future lies in its youth because over 60% of our population is under the age of 25 and yet their voices are largely absent in policymaking.”

“We must institutionalise framework that allow our young people and women to lead at all levels of governance and I am happy to report that the last election in Ghana’s history, we elected a woman as our Vice President,” he stated.

The President also stressed that streamlining the AU’s structures would not only improve operational efficiency but also position the union to tackle emerging challenges such as climate change, conflict resolution, and economic development.

Mahama’s remarks align with ongoing efforts to reform the AU, including enhancing its governance structures and redefining the roles of its various organs and commissions.

  • Govt to reassign staff from ‘collapsed’ ministries into other agencies – Felix Kwakye

Govt to reassign staff from ‘collapsed’ ministries into other agencies – Felix Kwakye

The government has announced plans to reassign staff from defunct ministries to other agencies, ensuring job security for all affected employees.

Minister of State-designate for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, assured the public that no employees would lose their jobs as a result of the ongoing restructuring.

He emphasized that employees whose roles remain essential to government operations will be redeployed to agencies where their expertise is needed.

“Nobody will be laid off. What may happen is that there are some agencies where recruitment will not continue because their functions are becoming obsolete. We don’t need additional human resources,” Felix Kwakye Ofosu stated in an engagement with the media.

He further clarified that the restructuring process would focus on reallocating staff to areas in need of personnel, rather than initiating dismissals.

This move comes in response to concerns about the future of public sector workers following President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to dissolve or restructure several ministries, including the Ministry of Information.

The reorganization is part of the government’s broader initiative to modernize public service operations, enhance efficiency, and create a system that better serves the needs of Ghanaians.
As part of this effort, the administration has merged or abolished several ministries.

For example, the Ministry of Information has seen its responsibilities transferred to the presidency. Likewise, the Ministry of Water and Sanitation has been merged with the Ministry of Works, Housing, and Water Resources.

Other notable changes include the complete abolition of the Ministry of Railways and the Ministry of National Security. Additionally, the Ministry of Chieftaincy has been merged with the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has also been split into two entities: the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment.

These adjustments reflect President Mahama’s commitment to creating a leaner, more responsive, and cost-effective government, aligning with efforts to improve public service and reduce redundancies.

The reorganization is expected to streamline the government and better allocate resources to areas of greatest need, all while maintaining job security for employees affected by the changes.

  • I’ll ensure regional balance in military recruitment – Omane Boamah

I’ll ensure regional balance in military recruitment – Omane Boamah

The Defence Minister-designate, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has pledged to ensure regional balance in military recruitment to promote fairness and inclusivity within the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

Speaking before the Appointments Committee on Tuesday, January 28, Dr. Omane Boamah emphasized his commitment to equity, highlighting his determination to guarantee that all regions of Ghana are adequately represented in the military.

“I am a student of equity, and I believe it is crucial for the military to reflect the diversity of our nation. We must ensure that every region is given equal opportunity to serve in the military, fostering unity and cohesion across the country,” Dr. Omane Boamah stated during his vetting.

He further stressed the importance of creating a military force that is both highly skilled and representative of Ghana’s diverse communities.

“When recruitment is balanced across the regions, we are not just building an army; we are strengthening national integration and ensuring every part of the country feels included in the broader goal of national security,” he added.

Dr. Omane Boamah assured the committee that addressing regional disparities in military recruitment would be a top priority if confirmed.

“I will do everything in my power to ensure no region is left behind in the recruitment process. The military should be a true reflection of Ghana’s rich diversity,” he concluded.

The Defence Minister-designate also urged Ghanaians to refrain from seeking enlistment into the GAF if they do not meet the required qualifications, cautioning that unqualified applicants face significant risks during training.

“Knowing the Ghana Armed Forces and from my experience 17 years ago, if you succumb to the rigorous procedures and rules of engagement without meeting the necessary qualifications, you are likely to suffer. Some recruits even lose their lives during training,” he remarked.

He explained that GAF training is intentionally rigorous to ensure recruits meet the physical, mental, and emotional standards necessary for operational excellence.

As a medical advisor, Dr. Omane Boamah emphasized his dedication to maintaining these standards, affirming that he would counsel unqualified applicants to reconsider their decisions.

“I will be the first to advise such a person not to proceed,” he stated, underscoring the importance of adhering to the recruitment process to safeguard the welfare of recruits and uphold the Armed Forces’ operational standards.

  • BoG to enforce recapitalisation plans for banks with capital gaps

BoG to enforce recapitalisation plans for banks with capital gaps

The Bank of Ghana has assured that banks facing financial shortfalls will follow procedures to raise the needed funds to remain stable.

This comes as the economy grows faster than expected, with overall improvements positively impacting the banking sector.

In its January 2025 Monetary Policy Report, the central bank said it would closely monitor banks to ensure they address the issue of bad loans, which could threaten the stability of the industry.

The report also noted that better economic conditions should make it easier for businesses and households to repay their debts, helping to reduce the number of bad loans.

At the same time, loans to the private sector are gradually recovering to levels seen before the economic challenges of 2022.

The value of private sector loans grew by 26.3% in December 2024, compared to 10.7% growth in December 2023.

Adjusted for inflation, this represents a modest 2.0% increase, a significant improvement from the 10.2% decline recorded the previous year.
