Lands Minister sets January 2026 deadline for 50 mining companies to regularize operation

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has set a January 20, 2026 deadline for 50 mining companies to put their operations in order or risk losing their licences.

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has set a January 20, 2026 deadline for 50 mining companies to put their operations in order or risk losing their licences.

This is contained in a document sighted by the Independent Ghana.

“… the underlisted companies have the option to submit petitions and supporting documentation to a three-member committee at the Ministry, provided they have legitimate concerns regarding the proposed licence revocations,” a portion of the document read.

It added that, “The committee will review all the submitted requests and make recommendations to the Minister for final action. All licences for which the status remains unchanged after the stated deadline will be revoked.”

These fifty companies are known as, Koantwi Mining Co. Ltd, Planet One Natural Resources Limited, Omnicad Exploration & Mineral Resources, Bugdono Co. Ltd, Akosdwomo Company Ltd, Akosdwomo Company Ltd, Fabkids Ltd Company, Omnicad Exploration & Mineral Resources, Omnicad Exploration & Mineral Resources, Omnicad Exploration & Mineral Resources.”

“SK Ofosu Co. Ltd (Area B), SK Ofosu Co. Ltd, Supra Natural Resources Limited, Supra Natural Resources Limited, Supra Natural Resources Limited, Supra Natural Resources Limited, Bugudon 2 Co. In October, a report from the office of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) suggested a significant growth in Ghana’s mining and extractive industries in 2024, continuing their upward trend.

According to the NDPC, the government granted 343 new mineral rights to different companies to support mining activities. Before the government granted the new mineral rights in 2024, the total number of mineral rights stood at 1,251. The new additions brought the cumulative total to 1,594 by the end of that year.

Mineral rights in Ghana refer to the legal authority granted by the state to individuals or companies to explore, develop, and extract mineral resources from the land. These rights are issued and regulated by the Minerals Commission under the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703).

The increase in mining licenses, according to NDPC, resulted in a significant increase in production of minerals such as gold, among other minerals, positioning Ghana atop among other neighbours in the region as Africa’s leading gold producer in 2024. Gold output rose sharply to 5,059,239 ounces, compared to 3,989,792 ounces in 2023, marking about 27 percent.

Diamond, bauxite, and manganese also went up by 54.6 percent. Altogether, Ghana’s mineral production was valued at USD 11.9 billion in 2024.

“ A total of 343 mineral rights were granted to companies in 2024. Illegal mining (Galamsey) remains a challenging environmental issue in 2024. Ghana was Africa’s leading gold producer in 2024 (2024: 5,059,239 ounces; 2023: 3,989,792 ounces). The total value of mineral production (comprising gold, diamond, bauxite, and manganese) experienced exceptional growth, increasing by 54.6 percent to USD 11.9 billion in 2024. A total of 1,135,242 jobs were created by the extractive industry in 2024”, parts of the report read.

Given Ghana’s current unemployment rate—estimated at about 3.1% as of mid-2025, according to projections by Fitch Solutions and Trading Economics—the extractive sector has made a significant contribution through the jobs it created in 2024.

While the industry’s growth has contributed significantly to the country’s economy, NDPC highlighted the damage currently being caused by the hike in illegal small-scale mining activities, popularly known as “galamsey”

It said this illegal activity threatens sustainable development, even as more legal mining investments are made.

Earlier this year, the government revoked all small-scale mining licences granted after December 7, 2024, due to procedural lapses in their issuance.

Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, announced the decision during a joint press briefing on March 19, 2025, emphasizing the need for regulatory compliance in the sector.

“Now, we are going full steam ahead to revoke all licences based on the findings. Even all licences, it’s mostly licences that were issued from December 7, that is hereby revoked, whether you have EPA licences or not, because the finding is very clear. Those licences from December 7 were rushed. Review processes were not followed; the right things were not done,” Mr. Buah stated.

The move follows recommendations from key regulatory institutions, including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Forestry Commission, and the Water Resources Commission. Authorities say the decision aligns with the government’s broader crackdown on illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, which has contributed to environmental degradation.

Under Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2462, which was passed in November 2022 during the tenure of former President Nana Akufo-Addo, the government had the authority to issue mining licences in forest reserves. During his administration, over 2,100 mining-related permits were granted, including a sharp increase of 318 licences in the final week of his presidency. The law faced heavy criticism for allegedly facilitating environmental destruction tied to unregulated mining activities.

With the revocation now in effect, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources is expected to implement stricter measures to ensure that future mining permits adhere to due process and environmental guidelines.

The move, which authorities claimed formed part of the government’s efforts to crack down on illegal mining, which causes damage to our water bodies and vegetation.

  • Mamprusi Chief removed from Bawku following Otumfuo’s recommendation

Mamprusi Chief removed from Bawku following Otumfuo’s recommendation

The Ministry of the Interior has confirmed the removal of confirmed the Mamprusi-installed rival chief, Alhaji Seidu Abagre, from Bawku in the Upper East Region.

This move follows a recommendation by the Otumfuo Asantehene Osei Tutu II as part of mediation efforts on the Bawku conflict.

Personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces have removed Alhaji Seidu Abagre, the Mamprusi-installed rival chief, from Bawku in the Upper East Region in line with recommendations from the Otumfuo Asantehene Osei Tutu II–led mediation on the Bawku conflict.

According to a statement released by the Ministry, Alhaji Seidu Abagre was removed on on December 24.

“This afternoon, personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) removed Alhaji Seidu Abagre from Bawku, pursuant to the recommendations of the Otumfuo Asantehene Osei Tutu II mediation report regarding the Bawku affair,” the statement read.

The Ministry has assured the public that “Alhaji Seidu Abagre is safe in the care of the security agencies.”

Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has urged the factions involved in the Bawku chieftaincy dispute to cease power struggles and work towards lasting peace.

He made the call on Monday, December 1, at the Manhyia Palace Jubilee Hall in Kumasi while speaking to representatives of the Mamprugu and Kusasi.

“Whatever the outcome of the mediation, you will still have to live together as brothers and sisters,” he added.  Otumfuo’s engagement with the groups was to find lasting solutions to end the ongoing feud, which resurfaced in 2024 in Bawku, Upper East Region.

The mediation talks began months ago. Bawku, which had remained relatively peaceful for a period, saw conflict erupt once more in late 2024. The resurgence of violence was largely sparked by the return of Alhaji Seidu Abagre, a Mamprusi chief who had been enskinned in 2022, only to be exiled later when his enskinment was ruled illegal.

His return to Bawku followed the withdrawal of an arrest warrant against him by a Kumasi High Court in October 2024, reigniting tensions between the Kusasi and Mamprusi communities. The renewed violence has resulted in deadly confrontations, including attacks on both civilians and security forces.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s involvement in the peace process has been met with widespread approval, with many hopeful that his leadership will play a critical role in restoring peace and stability to the troubled Bawku region.

Colonel Festus Aboagye (Retired), a distinguished security expert, has called for greater support for Otumfuo’s initiative, stressing the importance of embracing multi-track diplomacy to strengthen the peace process.

Colonel Aboagye urged a more inclusive approach to the mediation, calling for the involvement of various national stakeholders such as diaspora leaders, youth advocates, and women’s peacebuilding networks.

He believes that a broader, multi-dimensional strategy will result in a more sustainable and inclusive solution to the conflict.“Support Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s mediation through multi-track diplomacy, incorporating diaspora leaders, youth influencers, and women’s peacebuilding networks,” he proposed.

He also cautioned that traditional diplomatic efforts alone might not be enough to resolve the deep divisions that have fueled the protracted conflict.

Meanwhile, the community of Binduri in the Upper East Region, along with surrounding districts, has recorded a series of murders in recent times, leaving residents in fear and panic.

The victims were killed by unknown armed men, prompting the police to launch investigations to arrest the perpetrators. In a recent update, the Ghana Police Service has offered a one-million Ghana Cedis reward for information leading to the arrest of Mark Agingre, a native of Binduri who has been labeled the prime suspect in the ongoing killings.

This announcement comes after a man, his wife, and their three children were murdered in Binduri, leaving another child in critical condition. The surviving child is currently receiving treatment at the Bolgatanga Government Hospital.

Earlier, on October 27, an elderly man and his two children were also killed by unknown assailants. Preliminary police investigations have linked these incidents to Mark Agingre.

The police have urged individuals with information on Mark Agingre’s whereabouts to contact 191, 18555, or report to the nearest police station.

Authorities have assured the public that the prime suspect and all others involved in the gruesome murders will be brought to justice. Taking to Facebook on Saturday, November 8, the police wrote, “Suspect Mark Agingre, a native of Binduri, is wanted by the Police for his involvement in a series of brutal murders in the Binduri District and nearby communities in the Upper East Region.

Suspect Agingre is wanted in connection with the murder of a man, his wife, and three children on 7th November 2025, which also left another child in critical condition at the Bolgatanga Government Hospital.”

It added, “He is further suspected of the murder of an elderly man and his two children on 27th October 2025 at Binduri. Preliminary investigations indicate that he may be behind several other targeted killings.

“A reward of One Million Ghana Cedis GH₵1,000,000.00 has been earmarked for anyone who is able to share relevant and credible information that will lead to the arrest of the suspect.

The post concluded, “Anyone with credible information on his whereabouts is urged to contact the nearest police station or call 191, 18555 immediately. The Police assure the public that every effort is being made to track down the suspect and bring him to justice.”

  • My 5-year music journey with Daddy Lumba ended due to family life – Ateaa Tina

My 5-year music journey with Daddy Lumba ended due to family life – Ateaa Tina

Lead vocalist who worked closely with Highlife great Daddy Lumba, Ateaa Tina, revealed that her five year music relationship with highlife legend, Daddy Lumba ended due a decision she made to take care of her family.

According to Ateaa, her personal life took a new turn after she met her husband during one of her visits to Ghana.

I came to Ghana, met my husband, got prgenant and things chnaged,” Ateaa to ZionFelix in an interview.

Eulogizing the late legend, Ateaa said, “I didn’t write any of the songs. He would just select the parts and say, ‘you do this section.’ I only sang. He is a lyrical bank, he has lots of lyrics,” she said.

Ateaa Tina said after getting married and welcoming her first child, it became difficult to juggle family responsibilities with the demands of the music industry.

“The industry and family, it’s hectic. That’s what caused the break. Basically, family,” she stated.

The final funeral rights of Ghanaian highlife legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosu affectionately referred to as Daddy Lumba were held in Kumasi at the Baba Yara Sports stadium on December 13.

Lumba died at age 60 in Accra at the bank hospital in July 26.

Shortly after his death, a dispute arose between his maternal and paternal side, and also between his two wives. On the family’s side, the maternal side accused the paternal head of excluding them from funeral planning and fund management.

The disagreement lasted from about August until early December, ending only after the Accra High Court issued an injunction to halt the funeral planned for December 13. The court order also prevented Transitions Funeral Home from releasing the body, following claims that the deceased’s immediate family had been left out of the funeral arrangements.

However, the court later recalled lawyers, ordering the party seeking the opposition of the funeral being held on today to deposit GH¢2 million by 2:00 p.m. to cover costs if the burial was delayed. The court noted that, failure to meet the deadline meant that the funeral would proceed as planned.

The opposing party missed the deadline, hence Lumba’s funeral on Dec 13.

Evangelist Papa Shee revealed that Akosua Serwaa, wife of the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba, together with other family members, missed the late musician’s funeral due to a lack of official notice.

In an interview on Adom TV’s morning show Badwam, Papa Shee explained that Lumba’s immediate family was absent because they were abroad and had requested a postponement to allow everyone to be present.

He also said his absence at the funeral was to respect elders who had withdrawn from the arrangements and instead stayed home to worship.

Akosua Serwaa on the other hand, who is currently in Germany, chose to leave the matter in God’s hands after learning of the funeral through hearsay.

“I didn’t attend the funeral because I was at home worshipping. I didn’t see a need to go, especially since I can’t disrespect my elders who said they would not be attending. Akosua Serwaa is in Germany, and some family members are overseas; that’s why they wanted the funeral postponed until everyone could be present,” he said.

He added, “Akosua Serwaa has left everything in God’s hands. She was not officially informed about the funeral date on the 13th; it was only hearsay. Since Lumba’s immediate family wasn’t present at the funeral, it’s up to the family to decide if there will be another service. Akosua Serwaa is the reason Daddy Lumba became who he was.”

Thousands of mourners turned out in long, solemn queues to pay their final respects to the late music icon, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, when his body was laid in state at Heroes Park in Kumasi.

From the early hours of the day, fans from across the country thronged the venue to honour the legendary musician, creating an emotionally charged atmosphere as family members, fellow musicians, industry players and admirers filed past to bid him farewell.

Daddy Lumba’s timeless songs played softly in the background, deepening the sense of loss and underscoring his immense contribution to Ghana’s music industry.

Many mourners described him as a cultural symbol whose music spoke to love, hardship, hope and everyday social realities, noting that his work influenced generations of artistes and helped shape the sound and identity of contemporary Ghanaian music.

Others said that although he has passed on, his music and lasting impact will endure, ensuring that the name Daddy Lumba remains celebrated for years to come.

  • Stonebwoy, guest artistes thrill fans at 10th edition of BhimFest

Stonebwoy, guest artistes thrill fans at 10th edition of BhimFest

Multiple Award-winning Ghanaian dancehall artist Livingstone Etse, Satekla popularly known as Stonebwoy has built a reputation for staging high-quality live events.

Since he launched the Bhimnation Ultimate Concert at the Tema Sports Stadium in May 2015, his shows have continued to impress fans, and the 10th edition of BhimFest proved that trend is still strong.

BhimFest 2025 attracted a huge crowd to the Accra Sports Stadium, with the venue completely filled to its 40,000 capacity. With support from many popular musicians, Stonebwoy delivered a night of music that stood out from the many end-of-year concerts held in December.

What made the event different was not just the artistes who performed, but how well everything was planned. The concert enjoyed strong promotion ahead of time, and on the day, security was well arranged. Different ticket holders were directed through specific entry points, and security officers were present to assist fans, making movement into the stadium smooth and stress-free.

The show also started on time, which many fans welcomed. Activities began at exactly 8:00 p.m., giving upcoming artistes the chance to perform early. By midnight, the stadium was full, and DJs and hosts had the crowd fully warmed up.

Stonebwoy later appeared on stage in a silver outfit, performing some of his popular songs as fans sang along. Other artistes such as DopeNation, D Cryme, Praye and LalixLola also delivered energetic performances that kept the audience entertained.

He returned later in the night dressed in black, joined by dancer Incredible Zigi and the Afrozigi dance crew, adding more excitement to the show. One of the biggest surprises of the night was the appearance of Nigerian musician Mr P, formerly of P-Square, who thrilled fans with his well-known songs.

Overall, the concert was praised for its sound, lighting and general organisation, leaving many people happy with the experience. However, some attendees felt certain parts of the event could have been better. VIP and VVIP ticket holders, in particular, complained about limited access to facilities like washrooms.

Even with these issues, the 10th anniversary of BhimFest showed that Stonebwoy remains a strong force in Ghana’s music industry, and his festival continues to be one of the country’s biggest music events.

At last year’s edition, Stonebwoy issued a public apology to his wife, Dr. Louisa Ansong Satekla, following a performance at the 2024 BHIM Festival where he danced provocatively with Jamaican dancehall star Spice.

The incident, which took place on December 22, 2024, at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra, sparked controversy especially since he was a married man.

During the performance, Stonebwoy and Spice delivered an energetic rendition of their hit song “Jiggle and Whine” from Stonebwoy’s 2024 album “Up and Runnin6.”

Their on-stage chemistry included a moment where Stonebwoy danced closely with Spice, a move that was highly condemned by the majority of the public and it was deemed inappropriate.

In a video that circulated online, Stonebwoy is seen addressing his wife directly after the performance, saying, “It was all for showbiz.” He emphasized that the dance was purely for entertainment purposes and held no deeper significance.

This light-hearted apology was met with cheers from the audience, and Dr. Louisa, present at the event, appeared to take the gesture in stride.

Some found the moment entertaining and a testament to Stonebwoy’s showmanship, while others debated the appropriateness of such interactions given his marital status.

My sincerest apologies to promoters, who’s shows I’ve missed – Kelvyn Boy after accident

Ghanaian musician and songwriter Kelvin Brown, popularly known as Kelvynboy, has issued an apology to promoters and fans after surviving a recent accident that left him injured.

The artiste, who earlier disclosed that he was involved in an accident, said the incident forced him to miss a number of scheduled performances. In a post shared on X, Kelvynboy expressed gratitude to God for sparing his life, noting that the situation could have ended tragically.

Following the accident, he assured promoters and fans that efforts are underway to reschedule the affected shows, while pledging his commitment to honour upcoming engagements despite his condition.

“To promoters, who’s shows I’ve missed, my sincerest apologies to you and most importantly the fans. kindly coordinate w management to fix new dates. And to the few ones ahead before end of year. I’m racing against time, I’ll be there (with Crutches if need be) to rave. Nothings gon stop us now!”

The singer expressed gratitude to God that the situation did not result in loss of life, although he sustained a fractured ankle.

“A few days ago, God saved me from what would have been the most tragic news all year for me and my people. A driver reversing lost control, heading for me at the sidewalk of the very back of Center Point Mall. God saved me through two of my guys who saw it fast and reacted quickly enough, but the accident left me with a fractured ankle. Give thanks for life still,” he wrote.

In May, Ghanaian actor and television personality Akwasi Boadi, popularly known as Akrobeto, broke his silence after surviving a car accident on the Accra-Kumasi Highway on Friday, 23.

A few hours after the accident, the actor was spotted in a viral video providing details of how it all happened.

He explained that a heavy truck collided with his Toyota SUV and dragged his vehicle for about 30 meters before it came to a halt, causing a huge crowd to appear on the scene within a short while.

“The car rammed into mine and dragged me for about 30 meters before the articulator came to a halt for me to also come to a stop. The entire place became crowded in less than five minutes,” Akrobeto stated.

He revealed that he was in the vehicle with someone he offered a ride to, but thankfully the person was also not injured.

After being taken to the hospital for a checkup, he indicated that doctors were stunned by how he survived without a scratch, considering the severity of the crash.

“After looking at my car and myself, the doctor told me, ‘Your God is a big God.’ Nothing bad happened to me,” he said.

According to an eyewitness, the accident occurred when a tricycle, locally known as an Aboboyaa, suddenly crossed the path of a vehicle, leading a heavy-duty truck to crash into Akrobeto’s car to avoid a collision.

The actor’s vehicle sustained significant damage, but no casualties were reported.

Akrobeto, known for hosting The Real News on UTV, noted the outpouring of concern from fans, stating, “This accident has given me the opportunity to appreciate how people love me. I am grateful to the entire Ghana.”

Akrobeto says he is willing to shoot the week’s edition of his Real News show; however, the management of Despite Media had asked him to take a break for the week.

Akrobeto is a renowned actor who has been featured in over 100 Kumawood movies and is known for the unusually large size of his nostrils.

Due to his comic acts, he has recently been recognized by the international community, where his comic acts were used by several presenters on CNN as well as other international television presenters.

Ghanaian musician and socialite, Oseikrom Sikani, also survived a near-fatal car accident and is grateful to be alive.

The artiste took to Snapchat to share his experience, revealing that his vehicle somersaulted multiple times during the crash. Despite the severity of the accident, he walked away with only minor injuries.

“Told you I saw death today, still living my one life,” he wrote, reflecting on the frightening moment.

Photos he shared showed his badly damaged car and some visible bruises on his body. While shaken by the incident, he managed to inject some humor, noting that he lost his grills in the crash.

Fans and well-wishers have since flooded social media with relief and support, thankful that he survived. Oseikrom Sikani has assured his followers that he is doing well and will soon be back to his normal self.

Several months ago, Ghanaian gospel musician Efe Grace expressed her gratitude to God for saving her from a deadly accident, which reminded her to appreciate the gift of life.

She shared a video on her social media page showing the damaged state of her vehicle after the accident.

She asserted that the accident could have ended her life but for the mercy of God.

She wrote on Instagram, “I’m just here to say thank you, Jesus! Didn’t even know why this song kept coming to me, and just within 14 hours after ministration, this happens!!

“Today, l’m reminded that life is truly a gift and I just want to take a moment to publicly thank God.”

“I survived what could’ve been a fatal accident, and I know it was only by the mercy and grace of God.”

“What the enemy meant for evil, God turned into a testimony. I’m still here, not by luck, but by divine protection. Thank You, Lord, for sparing my life. I will never stop giving You the Glory.”

  • I reacted to Christian attacks in Nigeria because of my pastor – Nicki Minaj

I reacted to Christian attacks in Nigeria because of my pastor – Nicki Minaj

American rapper Nicki Minaj has revealed that her connection to Nigeria is the reason behind her response to the increasing attacks on Christians in the country.

She explained that Nigeria holds deep significance for her, adding that reports of attacks on Christians have been distressing.

She also disclosed that her pastor is Nigerian and noted that she receives strong support from fans in the country, popularly known as “Nigerian barbs.”

“Nigeria is a place I’ve always loved. Someone very dear to me, my pastor, is Nigerian, and I have lots of Nigerian barbs. So hearing that people are being kidnapped while they’re in church, people are being killed, brutalised, all because of their religion that should spark outrage,” she said during a surprise appearance at AmericaFest, where she took questions from the audience.

The rapper noted that remaining silent only fuels oppression, making it clear that she is no longer willing to keep quiet about issues of faith and persecution.

“We’re not backing down anymore. We are not going to be silenced by the bullies anymore. We will speak up for Christians wherever they are in this world,” she said.

The Trinidadian-American rapper took the stage at a high-profile United Nations forum in New York to highlight claims of increasing attacks on Christians in Nigeria and to call for urgent global action.

Organisers say her appearance was arranged by Alex Bruesewitz, an adviser to US President Donald Trump. She spoke at a panel where US officials outlined the administration’s concerns about religious violence in the West African nation.

Minaj began by admitting she felt nervous but grateful for the opportunity to address the forum. She thanked US Ambassador to the UN Michael Waltz and President Trump for prioritising the issue, describing her intervention as a moral duty rather than a partisan act.

She told attendees that protecting worshippers everywhere is about “uniting humanity” and said her fans, the Barbz, “will never stand down in the face of injustice.”

Her remarks combined personal reflection with vivid descriptions of churches destroyed, families torn apart, and communities living in fear.

The appearance followed a flurry of comments from Washington that had already escalated tensions.

In recent weeks, President Trump publicly accused the Nigerian government of failing to prevent attacks on Christians and instructed US agencies to prepare responses, including warnings of potential military action if the situation did not improve.

Nigerian officials quickly responded, rejecting claims of state-backed persecution and stressing the country’s constitutional guarantees for religious freedom.

US Ambassador Michael Waltz praised Minaj on social media, calling her “not only arguably the greatest female recording artist but also a principled individual who refuses to remain silent in the face of injustice.”

He added that he looked forward to working alongside her as the US considered steps to protect persecuted Christians.

Minaj said she was grateful for the chance to speak and emphasised that she did not take the invitation lightly.

Gunmen launched an attack on a church in Nigeria, killing at least two people and abducting the pastor along with several worshippers, according to police and eyewitness accounts on Wednesday.

Tuesday evening’s assault in Eruku, a community in Kwara state in central Nigeria, has intensified pressure on the government as U.S. President Donald Trump continues to criticise Nigeria over what he describes as persecution of Christians.

President Bola Tinubu cancelled a scheduled visit to South Africa and Angola for the G20 and AU-EU summits so he could receive security updates on both incidents, his office announced.

Tinubu also instructed the security agencies “to do everything possible” to rescue the schoolgirls “abducted by the bandits and bring the girls back home safe,” spokesperson Bayo Onanuga said.

Speaking at the U.S. mission to the United Nations on Tuesday, rapper Nicki Minaj renewed calls for international action to protect religious freedom, stating that in Nigeria “Christians are being targeted, driven from their homes and killed.”

Across the country, authorities continue to confront a long-running Islamist insurgency in the northeast, widespread kidnappings and killings by armed gangs in the northwest, and violent clashes between mostly Muslim herders and predominantly Christian farmers in central Nigeria.

Police in Kwara reported that officers responding to gunfire around 6 p.m. on Tuesday found one victim shot inside the church and another in nearby bushes, according to state police spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi.

Eyewitnesses told Reuters they counted at least three church members dead.

Parishioner Joseph Bitrus said by phone that “they later rounded up some worshippers, including the pastor, and took them into the bush,” though he did not specify how many were seized.

A video shared by a local media outlet and verified by Reuters shows the Christ Apostolic Church service abruptly disrupted by gunfire, with worshippers scrambling for safety as armed men enter and seize belongings.

Kwara’s governor has asked for an immediate increase in security deployments following the attack, his spokesperson confirmed.

Authorities in Kebbi state are still searching for the schoolgirls taken on Monday when armed men raided the predominantly Muslim Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School. Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected to travel there on Wednesday to meet families and local officials.

In another tragic development earlier this year, six Christians in central Nigeria’s Benue state were killed and eight kidnapped in suspected Fulani herdsmen attacks across three villages.

Adding to the carnage, the Akpanta killings in March 2025 saw armed herders torching churches Methodist, Anglican, and Catholic and homes in at least one village, forcing many Christians to flee.

The Nigerian government, however, maintains the narrative that these are not purely religious attacks. Information Minister Mohammed Idris has said that using religion to frame the violence is “misinformation or faulty data,” arguing that extremism affects both Christians and Muslims.

Nonetheless, analysts say the violence is deeply rooted in long-standing insecurity. Religious, ethnic, and resource-based tensions overlap especially in central Nigeria, where many of the farmers are Christian and the herders Muslim.

Tourism Ministry announces reopening of Ussher, James Fort to the public

The Ussher Fort and James Fort has been reopened to the general public after the completion of safety reviews and consultations with the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB).

This announcement was made by the Ministry of Tourism on its Facebook page on December 22, 2025.

“The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts wishes to inform the general public, tour operators, and all stakeholders that Ussher Fort and James Fort have been reopened to the public with immediate effect,” a part of the statement read.

In announcing the reopening, the Ministry explained that: ” As part of the reopening, the Ministry, in collaboration with the GMMB, has put in place strict access guidelines and monitoring mechanisms to ensure that visits do not interfere with the ongoing restoration works. All visitors, tour guides, and operators are required to comply fully with these measures. Unauthorized access outside approved areas remains strictly prohibited.”

Meanwhile, government is getting ready to renovate the Ghana National Theatre into a modern facility that meets contemporary production standards and delivers world-class creative experiences.

Days ago, a delegation from the Chinese government held discussions with the leadership of the National Theatre, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, ministry directors, and architects after touring the facility to carry out a first-hand assessment and determine the scope of work.

The theatre, which has been a centre for Ghana’s performing arts for more than three decades, is currently facing infrastructural and technical difficulties, with some systems and departments operating below capacity.

The proposed refurbishment is expected to resolve these challenges and help restore the monument to its former state.

Executive Director of the National Theatre, Mr Henry Herbert Malm, described the renovation as an important step in enhancing the theatre’s ability to deliver quality productions.

He explained that the upgrades would modernise technical systems, enhance safety standards, and provide a more comfortable setting for performers, staff, and patrons.

“This renovation reflects our commitment to staying relevant in a rapidly evolving creative industry,” he added.

Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, welcomed the progress being made, saying she was pleased that the long-planned refurbishment was finally moving forward.

She praised the Chinese government for its support for the project, pointing out that the understanding was reached during President John Dramani Mahama’s recent five-day visit to China at the invitation of President Xi Jinping.

She also described the National Theatre as a vital space for both local and international cultural exchange and learning, noting that the renovation would create more opportunities for talented individuals to display and refine their skills.

“We are counting on strong collaboration with the government and people of China, and we expect that in a very short time this renovation will see the light of day,” she said.

Head of the Chinese delegation, Mr Li Yaohong, said Ghana’s strong cultural heritage in West Africa informed China’s decision to originally construct the monument and its renewed commitment to refurbish it.

He disclosed that the Chinese government had pledged $30 million (about ¥200 million yuan) to fund two projects — the National Theatre and an off-road market.

“Our budget is limited, so we propose that you prioritise the most urgently needed parts of the building. Our head office in Beijing will send a technical team to Ghana to review more details,” Mr Yaohong said.

The areas earmarked for renovation include the various halls and stages, storage facilities, air-conditioning systems, and safety features such as perimeter fencing, CCTV, modern fire-fighting equipment, as well as a general upgrade of the entire compound.

The National Theatre was built under an agreement signed on July 5, 1989, with construction starting on March 8, 1990, and concluding on December 16, 1992. The facility was officially inaugurated on December 30, 1992.

The theatre was designed to lead Ghana’s theatre development by serving as a versatile space for concerts, dance, drama, musical performances, exhibitions, and other special events.

It is home to three resident groups: the National Dance Company, the National Symphony Orchestra, and the National Drama Company.

  • You won’t believe Shatta Wale pushed me to sing in my records – Sarkodie

You won’t believe Shatta Wale pushed me to sing in my records – Sarkodie

Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has acknowledged Dancehall King Shatta Wale’s role in pushing him to sing more on his songs.

Speaking in an interview with Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio on Hitz FM, Sarkodie said he would not have taken that direction on his own, crediting Shatta Wale for influencing the shift.

“The person who influenced me to do more (of singing in my records)…funny enough, you will never think about is Shatta Wale. I have done about three songs and where I sang. There was one that I didn’t rap at all. I sang throughout. But I am very uncomfortable with it because I will write it but its difficult for me to record it and make it public,” he revealed.

Shatta Wale and Sarkodie seem to be rubbing each others back for varrying successes in their worlds of music and personal lives.

In October, Shatta Wale rendered apologies to Rapper Sarkodie and his wife Tracy for failing to withhold what was meant to be a secret.

According to him, Sarkodie bought eight cars to support his transport business, called Shaxi, and the rapper trusted him to keep the information away from the public.

Unfortunately, Shatta Wale appeared on TikTok live on October 10, to disclose the information to Ghanaians while hailing the rapper as a “genuine industry player.”

“When he bought the car, he told me not to tell anybody, but I told him we all have to support each other. I know he won’t be happy that I have said this on live.

“Tracy is my baby. We are sorry for entering his (Sark) account. I am sure Tracy would ask why he didn’t inform her that he wanted to purchase cars for me. Shoutout to the Sark natives,” he added.

In 2024, Shatta Wale revealed that he invested over $2 million into his ride-hailing service, Shaxi, which was launched in 2023.

His decision, he explained, was driven by a desire to create jobs and support individuals rather than spending on personal luxuries.

“I wanted to make extra money to support people. Why else would I start a business?” Shatta Wale stated, reflecting on his motivation.

He highlighted that instead of indulging in personal luxuries like Lamborghinis or Rolls Royces, he directed $2.2 million into Shaxi. This investment covered app development, acquiring a fleet of mini cars, and promotional activities.

Despite his public persona, Shatta Wale emphasized his compassionate nature and underscored the importance of community support. Shaxi, a portmanteau of “Shatta” and “taxi,” aims not only to compete with other ride-sharing services but also to contribute positively to Ghanaian society by providing employment opportunities, particularly for youth and fans of his music.

In May this year, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) met with the Shatta Wale, the CEO of SHAXI—a ride-hailing platform established in 2021—for a youth employment partnership.

This strategic partnership with SHAXI will create thousands of jobs for Ghanaian youth who remain unemployed or seek better job opportunities.

As part of this collaboration, YEA will support the first 2,000 vehicles that subscribe to the SHAXI platform with GHC500 worth of fuel coupons every month for six months.

“This bold move is designed to ease the operational cost for drivers and encourage more youth participation in the transport business,” YEA noted.

SHAXI vehicles that operate on a 24-hour basis will receive additional incentives. This ensures that at least two young people can be employed per vehicle, working in shifts, and maximizing both income and job creation potential.

YEA noted that “this is a true game-changer in public-private collaboration where innovation and star power are used to drive real impact in youth employment!”

On his part, Shatta Wale noted that he is open to making more investments in the tech industry to provide more jobs to the youth.

This is not the first initiative being taken by YEA; in April this year, the agency entered a one-year agreement with SoccaBet Ghana to create 500 job placements.

Also, the agency, in partnership with the Ghana Fire Service, will recruit 5,000 young Ghanaians as fire assistants across the country.

The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and the Ghana Police Service have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to recruit 12,000 young individuals across the country to serve as Community Police Assistants (CPAs).

Speaking at the signing ceremony on Monday, May 19, at the Ministry of Interior, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of YEA, Malik Basintale, noted that the government’s priority is not solely about creating job opportunities but “involving our youth in building safer communities.”

“We are here today because we have found some 12,000 jobs within the Ghana Police Service. Every day and anytime I wake up, the first thing that comes to mind is where I can find jobs for young people out there.”

“His Excellency the President is always willing to hear the number of jobs that have been found and delivered to young people. Today, we have found 12,000 more jobs for young people out there, and we are ready to exhibit in the coming days,” he added.

  • “I pinched myself and asked what trouble I had gotten into” – President Mahama

“I pinched myself and asked what trouble I had gotten into” – President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has admitted that the state of Ghana’s economy he inherited upon returning to office left him momentarily questioning his decision to take on the responsibility again.

Speaking about the early days of his administration, President Mahama suggested that the economic realities he encountered triggered a quiet sense of regret, as the depth of the challenges became clearer through economic data and briefings.

“When we came into office, I pinched myself and said, ‘what trouble have you gotten yourself into,’ because what we saw there, economic numbers and all that,” the President said at a closed-door meeting with senior advisers in November.

He explained that the economy was in such disarray that it became apparent his government had taken on a far heavier task than initially anticipated. The situation, he noted, was one that demanded humility, resilience, and divine intervention.

“I mean the way things were haywire, we realised that we had really bitten quite a lot and that God should help all of us to have the jaws and mouth to be able to chew what we had bitten,” President Mahama stated.

The President added that the weight of the responsibility led his team to seek spiritual strength alongside policy solutions, acknowledging that the task ahead was daunting.

“And happily, He listened to our prayers,” he said.

President Mahama’s remarks highlight the scale of the economic difficulties his administration inherited and underscore the pressures faced by the government as it works to stabilise the economy and steer the country toward recovery.

Meanwhile the first 120 days after his inauguration have shown that, indeed, God heard his prayer for help.

Wednesday, April 16, 2025, marked exactly 100 days since President John Dramani Mahama, together with Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, was sworn into office following their victory in the 2024 presidential election.

Confident of his electoral success, President Mahama had signed a contract titled “Mahama’s First 120 Days Social Contract with the People of Ghana,” which outlined the specific goals he intended to achieve within the first 120 days of his administration.

In addition to the social contract, Mahama made several promises to Ghanaians, which were highlighted in his party’s 2024 manifesto, “Resetting Ghana for Jobs, Accountability and Prosperity.” This article examines some of the key achievements of his government during its first 100 days, as well as the commitments yet to be fulfilled, particularly those captured in the 120-day social contract.

Among the milestones achieved, President Mahama fulfilled his promise to nominate the full list of cabinet ministers within the first 14 days for parliamentary approval. He submitted a total of 42 ministerial nominees, including cabinet, non-cabinet, and regional ministers. All nominees were vetted and approved in less than a month, a process considered unprecedented in Ghanaian political history.

The President also delivered on his pledge to hold a National Economic Dialogue to assess the true state of the economy and develop a homegrown fiscal consolidation programme to guide the national budget. He established a seven-member National Economic Dialogue Planning Committee chaired by renowned economist Dr. Ishmael Yamson, which organised the forum from March 3 to March 4, 2025.

Mahama further fulfilled his promise to convene a national consultative conference on education to build consensus on reforms needed in the sector. An eight-member committee was established to oversee the National Education Forum, which reviewed the education system from February 18 to February 28, 2025.

Additionally, the President committed to reopening investigations into major unresolved criminal cases, including the 2020 election-related killings, the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence, the murder of Ahmed Hussein-Suale, and the case of Silas Wulochamey. Accordingly, he has directed the Inspector General of Police to initiate investigations into electoral killings that occurred during both the 2020 and 2024 elections.

Mahama promised, “Within my first 90 days in office, [I will] scrap the following draconian taxes to alleviate hardships and ease the high cost of doing business: E-Levy, COVID Levy, 10% Levy on Bet Winnings, and Emissions Levy.”

This commitment was fulfilled following the passage of the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy.

President Mahama has also delivered on his promise to implement the ‘No-Academic-Fee’ policy for all first-year students in public tertiary institutions, including universities, colleges of education, and nursing training schools.

He has further honoured his pledge to introduce key social interventions, such as Free Tertiary Education for Persons with Disabilities and the Ghana Medical Care Trust (MahamaCares) Fund.

The President has also begun distributing free sanitary pads to female students in primary and secondary schools. This initiative was facilitated through a budget allocation for the procurement of sanitary products, announced by the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.

As promised, seed funding has been allocated for the establishment of the Women’s Development Bank.

In addition, President Mahama launched several priority job creation initiatives, including the ‘Adwumawura’ Programme, the ‘National Apprenticeship Programme,’ and the ‘One Million Coders Programme.’

In line with his commitments, he allocated funds to compensate flood victims in affected areas, including communities in the Oti, Bono East, and Savannah regions.

  • ‘I am not the owner of Chain Homes Residence’ – President Mahama clarifies

‘I am not the owner of Chain Homes Residence’ – President Mahama clarifies

President John Dramani Mahama has dismissed claims that he owns the Chain Homes Residence, explaining how he and his family came to live in the estate.

According to the President, his family moved into the neighbourhood after struggling to find a place to rent. He explained that the option of Chain Homes only came up after several unsuccessful attempts elsewhere.

“And so while we roamed and we were looking for a place to rent, and we didn’t get it, finally they said there’s a place at Chain Homes. There is Chain Homes so go and check there,” President Mahama made the remarks while speaking to his neighbors in a colorful ceremony.

He recounted that when they visited the area, it was his daughter, Akua, who received his wife, Lordina. He explained that a private individual had constructed a house at the corner of the estate and handed it over to Chain Homes to be rented out.

President Mahama said the property was offered to them as a rental option at a time when they had limited choices.

“So Akua said, ‘oh there is this property in the corner there, see if you like it.’ And so Lordina went and said, ‘oh look, we have no choice anyway, so it’s not about whether we like it, we will take it. And so that’s how we came to this neighborhood,” he added.

The President further explained that after settling in the area, residents of the estate encouraged his family to make the place their permanent home. He said they were later granted land within the estate, which officially made them part of the community.

“Adei and all of them convinced us to make our permanent home in this estate and so they very graciously granted us that land in the centre. And so we are part of this neighbourhood,” President Mahama said.

However, he noted that the misconception that the estate belongs to him has persisted over the years. Speaking humorously, he dismissed the claim and joked about its implications.

“Indeed, they believe the estate belongs to me so all of you who bought these houses, you bought them illegally because you should have paid the money to me,” he said.

President Mahama added jokingly, “They say this is Mahama’s estate. So if you have paid your money to Adei and co, please… you better ask for a refund and bring my money.”

The President’s clarification comes amid ongoing public speculation about his association with the estate, which he insists is based on misunderstanding rather than fact.

President John Dramani Mahama has been forced to dismiss several claims since assuming office on January 7.

One of the most recent occurred on Tuesday, December 9, when the Minority Caucus staged a protest in Parliament, chanting, “No Third Term, Mahama! We want peace, Mahama.” The Minority said the protest was triggered by what they described as growing calls from some members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) for President Mahama to seek a third term in office.

The Minority argued that such calls pose a threat to Ghana’s constitutional order and national peace.

This is not the first time such concerns have been raised. In early May, following President Mahama’s nomination of seven justices to the Supreme Court, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin claimed the move pointed to what he described as “a deeper, more dangerous political ambition—a third-term agenda in disguise.”

However, the demonstration in Parliament marked the first organised parliamentary action against the alleged third-term agenda.

Reacting to the protest, the Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, strongly rejected the claims, describing them as “absurd” and without basis. Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face programme on Tuesday, December 9, he said President Mahama has consistently proven himself to be a committed democrat.

“It’s an absurd fantasy they’re getting themselves into. The NPP have whipped itself into needless frenzy. President Mahama has stated emphatically that he will respect the Ghanaian Constitution. Because he’s a consummate democrat, there’s no third term anywhere for him or any other person as far as the constitution is concerned. Anyone can say what they want,” he stated.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu added that although some individuals on social media have called on President Mahama to seek a third term, the President has clearly ruled out such intentions.

“The fact that some people have gone on Facebook to say he should go for a third term doesn’t mean that will happen. The man himself has said he’s not interested,” he said.

He urged the opposition to stop what he described as needless speculation, stressing that the President has shown no intention of pursuing a third term.

“So NPP should stop wasting their time and everybody’s time, and purporting to be angry. The President has not expressed any intent. Any talk about it is a complete waste of everybody’s time,” he added.

  • I’m grateful for the trust you have placed in my government – President Mahama’s Christmas message to Ghanaians

I’m grateful for the trust you have placed in my government – President Mahama’s Christmas message to Ghanaians

President John Dramani Mahama has extended his heartfelt Christmas greetings to Ghanaians, expressing gratitude for the trust placed in his administration.

In his first Christmas message since returning to office, President Mahama said, “It’s my first Christmas with you, as your come-back President and I am filled with gratitude for the trust you have placed in my government.”

The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the #ResettingGhana Agenda, aimed at positioning the country on a path of inclusive growth, job creation, accountability, and prosperity.

He further emphasized the importance of collective effort, stating, “As we work, together, tirelessly to revive our economy, complete stalled projects, expand our infrastructure and build a Ghana that works for every citizen, let us draw inspiration from the hope that Christmas brings.”

President Mahama concluded his message by wishing all Ghanaians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

President John Dramani Mahama officially made history as Ghana’s first President to be sworn in three times, a landmark achievement in the country’s political landscape.

He was sworn into office on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at the Independence Square in Accra by Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, marking a historic milestone in Ghana’s leadership.

President Mahama, leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), secured a decisive win after a campaign that resonated with citizens across the nation.

His message of economic recovery, social inclusion, and sustainable development struck a chord with voters, leading to his return to the presidency after previously serving from 2012 to 2017.

In his inaugural address, Mahama, delivered an inspiring and visionary speech that underscored his strong commitment to the progress and prosperity of the Ghanaian people.

With eloquence and clarity, he outlined a compelling roadmap for the nation’s future, emphasizing unity, innovation, and resilience.

His speech resonated with hope and determination, uniting the nation toward a shared purpose.

President Mahama assured Ghanaians that he would govern with sound judgment and take full responsibility for addressing the country’s challenges. “I will have the humility to take responsibility for any challenges and be willing to ask for help in resolving them,” he stated.

“To the millions of my fellow countrymen and women who joined long queues and waited in the sun to vote for me, you have my sincerest thanks for honouring me. Your courage to bring change will not go in vain,” Mahama said, pledging to make decisions that will positively impact the destiny of the nation.

President John Dramani Mahama outlined four key areas his administration will prioritise, including economic restoration and stabilisation, improvement of the business and investment environment, governance and constitutional reforms, and accountability with a strong fight against corruption. He assured businesses and investors that Ghana is open for business again, promising a more transparent and fair tax regime to stimulate growth. “We will rationalise our tax systems to make them fair and transparent. The business community must know that Ghana is back in business,” he declared.

Mahama stressed the need for a national reset to restore faith in Ghana’s institutions and leadership. “We need a reset of faith — in our country, in our institutions, and in ourselves,” he said. “You are Ghana, I am Ghana. Together, we make this country. Let us enter into a covenant to build the Ghana we all desire.” He called on citizens to envision the Ghana they want to leave behind for future generations, urging a shift in attitudes, behaviours, and mindsets to achieve collective progress.

The President paid special attention to youth and women, promising policies that will foster job creation and inclusivity. “Our youth represent the heartbeat of our democracy. Their ambitions will drive our policies,” Mahama said, pledging to implement a 24-hour economy model to create jobs and stimulate local industries. He also celebrated Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang’s historic achievement as Ghana’s first female vice president, describing her inauguration as a symbol of progress toward gender equality. “With Nana Jane by my side, we are committed to creating a society where barriers are shattered, and ambitions are realised,” he said. “We will implement policies that empower women and ensure opportunities are open to all, regardless of background.”

Mahama introduced the concept of a 24-hour economy, aimed at unlocking Ghana’s dormant economic potential by keeping markets, public services, and businesses operational round-the-clock. “This model will create decent jobs for young people, stimulate local industry, attract foreign investments, and foster resilient communities,” he explained. He painted a vision of bustling markets, flexible business hours, and responsive public services operating at all times to meet citizens’ diverse needs.

He pledged that his administration would champion diversity in governance, ensuring that every Ghanaian, regardless of ethnicity, gender, age, or religion, has a role to play in the nation’s progress. “Our decisions will prioritise inclusivity, ensuring everyone has a seat at the table,” he stated. “We will create an equitable society where opportunities are open to all.”

Mahama invited business leaders and entrepreneurs to support his vision, highlighting the private sector’s critical role in Ghana’s growth. “Your innovation and dedication will be the backbone of our success story,” he said, reassuring the business community that his administration would work to foster a business-friendly environment and promote public-private partnerships.

He expressed his commitment to strengthening Ghana’s ties with neighbouring countries and working collectively toward regional stability and economic growth. “To our friends from across Africa and the world, I say ‘Akwaaba!’ Your presence is a testament to the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation that exist between our nations,” he said.

President Mahama ended his speech with a patriotic call to action, inviting Ghanaians to partner with his administration in building a better future.

“This is a patriotic call to action for all of us to participate in building a nation that lives up to its promise, where unity, progress, and equality are not just ideals but the very fabric of our nation,” he said.

  • I unknowingly ate marijuana and performed poorly on stage at a US concert – Sarkodie

I unknowingly ate marijuana and performed poorly on stage at a US concert – Sarkodie

Celebrated Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has shared details of what he describes as his ‘worst performance’ after unknowingly chewing a biscuit containing marijuana to perform at a US concert

The rapper told Doreen Avio and Kwame Dadzie on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM,  while performing, the music felt unusually slow to him, even though the audience later told him he delivered a strong performance.

“That’s the worst performance I’ve ever had. Because in my head all the songs sounded slow,” he noted.

Sarkodie and his manager had eaten biscuits from a hamper that contained marijuana, but they were unaware of it.

“I got to my hotel they had a hamper for me. And I had no idea what the hamper was. It has drinks, biscuits and everything. I took bites of the biscuits when I was hungry not knowing it had marijuana, and I have not taken marijuana before. Angel finished his and came for more from me,” he said.

At this point Sarkodie said he realized they were both laughing unusually about events that were not even funny.

The ‘Highest’ hitmaker further disclosed that he became convinced that all was not well when he asked members of his team the distance between where he was seated backstage and the real stage.

He asserted that, artists also experience moments where patrons are satisfied with their performance but personally, they do not feel they did well on stage.

The ‘Highest” hitmaker is gearing up for what promises to be one of the biggest shows of the festive season as he prepares for his Rapperholic 2025 concert on 25 December at the Grand Arena in Accra.

The annual event, a staple of Ghana’s Detty December celebrations, is expected to draw music lovers from across the country and beyond to celebrate the holiday with high‑energy performances and memorable moments.

In the lead‑up to the concert, Sarkodie has been actively promoting the show, with tickets already selling fast and fans expressing excitement on social media about his return to the Christmas stage. Organisers have scheduled the event to start in the evening at the Grand Arena, transforming the venue into a festive hub of music, dance, and entertainment.

As part of his preparations, Sarkodie has also been reflecting on the physical and mental demands of performing during the busy season. In a recent interview, he opened up about the pressures artists face during big events like Rapperholic and acknowledged the importance of managing his health and energy ahead of the show.

Sarkodie has announced that in 2026, his annual concert, Rapperholic, will be held for the first time in the United Kingdom.

He shared the news during Fameye’s London concert on November 9, 2025, where he surprised the crowd with the update and assured fans that he won’t be coming alone.

“Next year, we are bringing Rapperholic here. You’re going to see Sarkodie, Black Sherif, Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, R2Bees,” Sarkodie told the excited audience while on stage.

He added that the 2026 edition will feature some of the biggest artistes in Ghana, such as Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Black Sherif, among others.

Sarkodie thrilled fans with a unique, exciting entry at his this year’s Rapperholic concert in Kumasi.

Despite the delays in the concert’s commencement time, his legendary entrance to the stage melted any possible disappointment or anger.

It began with a poetic prelude where the poet praised Sarkodie as one whose glory cannot be boxed or hidden, a reference to his kingship, his heritage as the son of the Ashanti Kingdom, highlighting his well-known title “Landlord”, positioning not just a rapper, but a voice of heritage.

The speaker invoked the spirit of Kumasi and the Ashanti Kingdom, framing Sarkodie’s homecoming as a symbolic return to the source of his strength. One of the lines of the poet was her praise for Sarkodie as one who “ does not just rhyme, but remembers. He does not just perform, he preserves,” she delivered her rich culture and praise-loaded poem for Sarkodie, with the Ashanti Flag projected on the huge LED screens behind her.

As the poem ended, Sarkodie’s nickname “Obidi” blazed across the stage in flaming letters, followed by a glowing crown that hovered above, symbolising his reign in Ghanaian rap. Then followed Sarkodie’s performance with legendary rapper Obrafour. The landlord had to pause the high-energy flow to introduce Obrafour, calling him “the reason I rap”. As a sign of respect, he knelt before Obrafour on stage, a deeply emotional moment that drew cheers and chants of “legend, legend!” from the crowd. They performed a remix of “Oye Ohene”.

Kweku Flick joined Sarkodie on stage while they performed their song “Yɛbɛyɛ Fine”, which translates to “We’ll be fine” in Twi. They both moved in sync with dancers dressed in streetwear fused with traditional prints.

The current Kumasi star, King Paluta, thrilled fans with their “Africa We Dey” song. Sarkodie opened with a verse on unity and struggle, then passed the mic to Paluta, who unleashed rapid-fire Twi bars.

Other artists that showed up at the concert were Medikal, who did a solo performance marked with a playful moment chasing Shatta Wale on stage.

Efya, Gyakie, Kofi Kinaata, Olive The Boy, Donzy, Oseikrom SikaniJay Bahd, Ypee, Beeztrap KOTM, Skyface SDW, Kwesi Amewuga, Lalid, Kofi Jamar, among other acts. Some fans were also invited on stage to freestyle live.

Boxing fans celebrated reigning national super middleweight champion Jonathan “Worldwide” Tetteh’s victory over Seth Gyimah, popularly known as Freezy Macbones, with some supporters even cashing in on their predictions.

The boxing event dubbed “The Showdown” and sponsored by the President’s son, Sharaf Mahama of Legacy Sports, filled the University of Ghana Sports Stadium with excitement on Saturday, December 20, 2025.

One enthusiastic fan who identified as Worldwide Junior, said he was confident in Tetteh’s ability going into the bout and was rewarded for his belief.

“I won my bet on ‘Worldwide’ because he defeated Freezy,” the fan told The Independent Ghana shortly after the fight.

The highly anticipated clash between the two boxers was one of the most talked-about local bouts on the card and lived up to expectations, drawing loud cheers from the crowd.

Fans closely followed every round as both fighters displayed determination and grit in the ring.

Following the final decision in Tetteh’s favour, celebrations erupted among his supporters, many of whom praised his composure and performance. The result sparked conversations across the stadium, with fans debating the fight and sharing their reactions.

The bout formed part of The Showdown, a major boxing event that brought together local and international fighters, highlighting the growing interest in boxing in Ghana and the strong connection between fighters and their supporters.

Meanwhile, boxing enthusiast and manager of Med Sports TV, Mr Med, has praised Seth Gyimah, popularly known as Freezy Macbones and reigning national super middleweight champion Jonathan “Worldwide” Tetteh for what he described as an exceptional performance, saying both fighters exceeded his expectations.

Speaking to The Independent Ghana on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the University Ghana Sports Stadium, Mr Med said some of the fights had not lived up to expectations, especially on the undercard, but noted that the main event had been so far so good.

“Freezy Macbones versus Jonathan “Worldwide” was the most talked-about local fight, and I think both of them performed beyond my expectations, per their backgrounds. I think they both performed beyond my expectations, especially Freezy. I was having doubts if Freezy could go all the rounds with Worldwide, per the experience of “Worldwide”.

Freezy may have turned pro before “Worldwide”, but Worldwide has a rich amateur background. He has fought at top international amateur tournaments, and he has sparred Freezy many times and he has had the best of Freezy, inspiring. In those sessions, Worldwide often had the better of Freezy. But today, I think Freezy has given a better account of himself than when they were sparring about a year or two ago,” he expressed.

Mr Med also commended Sharaf Mahama, owner of Legacy Rise, for his efforts to revive boxing in Ghana, describing the initiative as one with strong social impact.

“When you look at what he is doing, what change is he bringing to boxing in Ghana? One thing people don’t know is that boxing is meant to take people off the streets, and by giving them opportunities, he is going to take a lot of people off the streets. We have had Ghanaian boxers who were once armed robbers, and boxing saved their lives,” he said.

He applauded boxers who have really put their lives on the line for “our entertainment and kudos to every boxer who stepped into the squared circle.”

One of Ghana’s rising boxing stars, Jonathan ‘WorldWide’ Tetteh, impressed fans both in and out of the ring after defeating Freezy MacBones by points on Saturday at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

The win extends Tetteh’s professional record to 11 victories, including 10 knockouts.

After the fight, Tetteh moved confidently among his fans, celebrating and showing the self-assurance that has become his trademark.

The fight carried extra significance as the two had previously competed for a spot on Ghana’s national boxing team, the Black Bombers. Earlier this year, McBones had refused to face Tetteh when asked by then-GBA president Abraham Kotei Neequaye, adding tension to their latest clash.

Saturday’s event also featured an exciting performance from featherweight John Laryea, who defeated Holy Dorgbetor in the seventh round to claim the IBF Continental Africa featherweight title. The victory takes Laryea’s record to 14 wins and one draw, making him a two-time featherweight champion.

The match was intense from the start, with emotions running high. The tension rose further in the fourth round when McBones appeared to bite Tetteh. Despite the incident, Tetteh stayed focused and did enough to secure the win.

The boxing night was part of ongoing efforts to grow the sport in Ghana, giving local boxers a chance to perform on a big stage and providing fans with top-quality entertainment.

Legacy Rise Sports partnered Match Room to produce a historic night of boxing at the University of Ghana Stadium, Legon on Saturday, December 2025.

Although there were many brilliant performances, the fight of the night was a grudge match between two former sparring partners from South London, Daan Azee and Craig Richards.

In the end, Craig Richards secured a 12th-round knockout over Dan Azeez to take the vacant IBF International light heavyweight title.

It was a close fight between former sparring partners Richards (20-4-1, 13 KOs) and Azeez (22-3-1, 14 KOs) in the early rounds, but Richards ultimately prevailed.

Light heavyweight Jonathan Tetteh, widely known as ‘Worldwide,’ secured a points decision win over Freezy Macbones (11-0, 10 KOs), extending his record to 11 victories, including 10 knockouts.

The two had previously fought for a single Olympic spot in Ghana’s national boxing team, the Black Bombers, adding extra excitement to the matchup. Earlier this year, McBones notably refused to face Tetteh when prompted by then-GBA president Abraham Kotei Neequaye.

The bout was tense from the start, and the drama heightened when McBones appeared to bite Tetteh in the fourth round.

Although he regained his composure, McBones was unable to prevent Tetteh from emerging victorious.

The highlight of the night came from the talented featherweight John Laryea and Holy Dorgbetor.

Laryea combined strength with excellent technical skill to defeat Dorgbetor in the seventh round, claiming the IBF Continental Africa featherweight title.

The win improves Laryea’s record to 14 victories and one draw.

Saturday’s result also makes Laryea a two-time featherweight champion.

The company mentors young athletes, offering training coordination, career guidance, and support to help them reach higher levels in their sport.

The company’s leadership, including CEO Sharaf Mahama, emphasizes using sports as a tool for youth empowerment and social change, aiming to uplift communities through athletics.

Matchroom Boxing on the other hand is one of the world’s leading professional boxing promotion companies. It was founded in 1987 by Barry Hearn and has since become a dominant force in global boxing, responsible for promoting some of the sport’s most memorable fights and biggest stars across several decades.

Under the leadership of Eddie Hearn, Matchroom has built an elite roster of world‑class fighters, including champions and Olympians such as Anthony Joshua, Katie Taylor, and many others. The company regularly promotes major fight nights — around 20 or more events per year — which are broadcast live on platforms like Sky Sports in the UK and DAZN worldwide.

Matchroom is known not only for staging high‑profile bouts but also for transforming boxing into a mainstream spectator sport, creating record‑breaking events such as the sold‑out bouts at Wembley Stadium and other iconic venues.

In late 2025, Matchroom continued its global expansion by staging its first ever event in Africa, in Accra, Ghana, in partnership with local promoters such as Legacy Rise Sports and 258BXG, and broadcast live on DAZN, marking a major milestone in the company’s international growth.

  • High Commissioner reports $3bn trade between India and Ghana, forecasts doubling in 5 years

High Commissioner reports $3bn trade between India and Ghana, forecasts doubling in 5 years

Bilateral trade between India and Ghana has hit US$3.25 billion in the first half of the 2025-26 Indian financial year, setting both nations on course for a record-breaking year, High Commissioner of India to Ghana, Manish Gupta, has revealed.

“Within the current Indian financial year [April 1 to September 30, 2025] first half, our bilateral trade has already surpassed the US$3billion mark,” he said, reiterating both governments’ commitment to doubling this figure within the next five years.

Gupta made the remarks at the India-Ghana Business Conclave in Accra, noting that the strong pace of engagement and renewed cooperation between the two countries could allow them to achieve this target sooner than expected.

He described the present stage of India–Ghana relations as “a qualitative transformation”, highlighting the July 2025 state visit of India’s Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, which elevated ties to a comprehensive partnership.

“Ghana has become a preferred gateway for Indian investments in the West African sub-region. Nearly US$2billion in FDI across over 900 projects and another US$1billion through concessional LOCs and Buyers’ Credit at the intergovernmental level have flowed into Ghana over the last two decades, making it a prime economic partner,” he said.

Gupta emphasized that India’s expertise in agro-processing, pharmaceuticals, mining, skills development, and renewable energy directly aligns with the priorities of the Mahama administration, adding that:

“India stands ready to work with Ghana in advancing the Reset Ghana agenda.”

He also stressed that India’s development cooperation is demand-driven, focusing on building local capacity and creating opportunities within Ghana.

“Our approach is not just to invest but also empower. Together, we progress in an environment of trust and collaboration,” he said.

Gupta highlighted India’s Digital Public Infrastructure, particularly the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), as a potential avenue for collaboration to improve transparency, efficiency, and digital inclusion in Ghana.

“India’s UPI is the single largest platform for digital transactions, accounting for nearly half of global real-time transactions in volume terms. Linking it with the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement System and Pan-African Payment and Settlement System would facilitate ease of banking and faster transactions,” he said.

The conclave, held in partnership with the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI), brought together government officials, business leaders, Indian companies, and trade associations.

For his part, Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development, Augustus ‘Goosie’ Tanoh, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening economic ties with India. He also highlighted priority sectors such as agribusiness, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, ICT, infrastructure, and SMEs.

He urged Indian firms to explore business and investment opportunities under Ghana’s 24H+ Programme, emphasizing avenues for inclusive and sustainable growth.

Meanwhile, President John Mahama has stressed the need for countries to abide by international trade regulations and not impose unilateral tariffs, cautioning that such actions threaten global prosperity.

He made the point at the Jubilee house after receiving the credentials of the EU Ambassador to Ghana, Rune Skinnebach, referencing Ghana’s own encounter with U.S. export tariffs.

“We live in an increasingly changing world, and the world trade rules-based system is being upended by unilateral tariffs by various countries on others. Ghana, for instance, had the AGOA, which was zero-rated for exports into the United States. Today, we’ve been slapped with 15%. But it’s not only us; many other countries have suffered a worse fate than us. But we do believe that with regards to trade and tariffs, we must play by the rules. And it affects world prosperity when countries just decide unilaterally to impose tariffs on each other,” ” President Mahama said.

Updating the envoy on Ghana’s economic state, the president said, “Ghana is coming out of an economic crisis. We defaulted on our debts, and we went through a quite difficult debt restructuring exercise. Happily, we are coming back. The economy is stabilising. Inflation is coming down.”

“The currency is appreciating in value and being relatively stable. And we’re maintaining fiscal discipline that ensures that the economy is well managed. Aside from that, we’re also resetting our governance and introducing more accountability.”

Though the European Union Ambassador to Ghana, Rune Skinnebach, is new, he committed to closer engagement with Ghana on all fronts, including defence and security.

“I also see a very strong development in the partnership between the Republic of Ghana and the EU. I see our privileged position as a donor to the government, but also as a trading partner, as an investor.”

“I see these very important partnerships in security and defence, and most recently also in forest legislation enforcement, which all constitute platforms to further deepen our relationship,” Mr Skinnebach said.

He further underscored Ghana’s strong position on international issues.

“It hasn’t gone unnoticed that Ghana has been steadfast on the territorial integrity of Ukraine towards Russian aggression. That is very important to us in Europe.”

Later, President Mahama received the new UK High Commissioner to Ghana, Christian Rogg. The President noted that Ghana is working with ECOWAS and international partners to respond to violent extremism in the Sahel.

“We’ve developed a process of rapprochement with the AES countries, even though they have determined to break away from the regional sub-body. I think that there must be continuous engagement with them, because the threat they face is a common threat to our whole sub-region, not to them alone.

“The situation in those countries is quite grave, and we believe that Ghana, working with ECOWAS and the international community, must see how we can resolve the issue of violent extremism,” President Mahama said.

“We rely on cooperation with the UK. Already we have support in terms of training, technical expertise, and intelligence sharing, and we hope that will continue.”

The UK High Commissioner assured that security will remain central to Britain’s partnership with Ghana.

“The second priority is very much on security. The world really has changed… conflicts we never imagined are happening again in Europe, and what is happening in the region here is also very different,” Mr Rogg said.

“Over time, our partnership on security has evolved. That has to do with countering terrorism, with training, with intelligence, with equipment. But it also goes beyond that to threats we both face, such as illicit financial flows and the drugs trade. Security, just as growth, are quite broad and encompassing priorities we will work with your government on.”

  • Over 330,000 jobs created in first 3 quarters of 2025 – GSS

Over 330,000 jobs created in first 3 quarters of 2025 – GSS

Ghana added over 330,000 jobs between the first and third quarters of 2025, reflecting continued absorption of labour and a strong national workforce, the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has reported.

“Between Q1 and Q3 of 2025, employment in Ghana increased by over 330,000 people. More people are working, and the labour force remains strong,” said Government Statistician, Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu,

He also announced through a video shared on the Service’s Facebook page in August this year that Ghana’s unemployment declined from 13.3% in quarter three of 2024 to 13.1% in quarter four.”

The figures were captured in the latest Quarterly Labour Statistics Report of the Annual Household Income and Expenditure Survey (AHIES), which was released on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

According to the report, 409,000 new jobs were created in the last quarter of 2024. Despite this growth, the Ghana Statistical Service has expressed concern about the expansion of the informal sector compared to the formal sector.

“Employment is growing, but too many jobs remain informal and insecure. The disparities, especially among young people, are still stark,” Dr. Iddrisu stressed.

The report also acknowledged that youth unemployment remains a pressing concern, with 32% of those aged 15–24 jobless in 2024, 22.5% in the 15–35 bracket, and young people making up seven out of ten unemployed Ghanaians.

To tackle the challenge, Dr. Iddrisu proposed strengthening apprenticeship and placement schemes, tailoring TVET reforms to labour market demands, and widening access to affordable credit for small enterprises. He further appealed to the private sector to create structured internships and entry-level jobs and encouraged development partners to channel investments into rural employment and scalable youth-focused initiatives.

“Addressing youth and long-term unemployment, bridging regional disparities, and formalising informal work must remain urgent national priorities,” he added.

Unemployment and youth unemployment are among the major issues the incumbent government led by President John Dramani Mahama seeks to address to aid the recovery of the Ghanaian economy.

In light of this, the government has introduced several initiatives, including the Adwumawura Programme, to fight youth unemployment and boost entrepreneurship. President John Dramani Mahama, on Monday, April 28, launched the programme at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi.

The Adwumawura Programme, according to its design, will “create, mentor, and support at least 10,000 businesses annually,” focusing specifically on young people aged 18 to 35. Participants will benefit from skills training, mentorship, start-up capital, and equipment to help them build sustainable businesses.

During his address, President Mahama described youth unemployment as “one of Ghana’s most pressing challenges” and reiterated his administration’s commitment “to create decent and sustainable jobs for young people,” aligning with the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s vision of economic growth and innovation.

Funding for the initiative has been secured through a GH₵100 million provision in the 2025 Budget Statement, delivered by Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson. To complement Adwumawura, the government has also implemented the National Apprenticeship Programme, which provides free technical and vocational training opportunities for the youth.

More than 150,000 Ghanaians have enrolled in the National Apprenticeship Programme, organised by the National Youth Authority (NYA). The NYA had initially projected 10,000 participants for the first phase of the initiative.

Launched on March 19, the National Apprenticeship Programme is managed by the NYA and focuses on delivering hands-on vocational and technical training. It also supports individuals recovering from substance abuse and those affected by illegal mining activities, offering them a renewed path toward sustainable livelihoods.

In addition, Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Ampem Nyarko has highlighted the government’s plan to leverage Ghana’s emerging pharmaceutical industry to boost employment and economic development.

“With the establishment of a pharmaceutical hub in Ghana, supported by GAVI, we aim to create employment opportunities and add value to our local resources—a crucial step for the Ghanaian economy,” he noted.

Speaking during a courtesy call by Dr. Sania Nishtar, Chief Executive Officer of the Global Alliance for Vaccine Initiatives (GAVI), in May this year, the Deputy Minister stated that the creation of a pharmaceutical hub is a key component of Ghana’s long-term health and industrial strategy.

To augment local efforts to address the unemployment situation in the country, the government of Ghana is also working to export a considerable portion of Ghana’s labour force.

As such, the Ministry of Labour, Jobs & Employment, in partnership with the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and GIZ Ghana, launched the Work Abroad Programme in May. The programme is structured to equip Ghanaian youth with the essential skills, guidance, and support needed to secure overseas employment.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Health, Honourable Mintah Akandoh, has revealed that the government is engaging countries interested in importing Ghanaian health workers. To this end, a short-term intensive course is being designed to elevate the average health personnel to become experts.

Engaging the media, the Health Minister explained that the collaboration has become necessary due to the high demand for health experts by other international countries in need of Ghanaian health workers.

According to Honourable Mintah Akandoh, the exportation of health workers—what he refers to as the “managed migration” approach—forms part of the two measures being put in place by the government to reduce the number of unemployed health personnel in the country.

He remarked: “Ghana government is going to engage other countries to export health workers. About 13 countries have responded, and we are now agreeing on our MoUs. But there is a challenge; the challenge is that if you look at the requests from the various countries and even our own (African) countries, the request is higher when it comes to specialists than general nurses.”

“We cannot decide to give them all our specialists. What we are doing at the moment is that we are engaging them, looking at how we can bring lots of specialists. Instead of taking you probably about 2 years to become a specialist, we are engaging the institutions to come up with a crash programme, not more than six (6) months. It does not mean that we are going to compromise on the quality.

“It is going to be very intensive. For example, if you were going to do two contact hours a day, you are going to do four or five. We use that approach to solve a particular problem so if we run it for about two to three times and we think the problem has been solved, we return to the former system,” he further explained.

According to the Minister for Health, the country has not less than 70,000 health professionals sitting at home, unemployed. One of the two approaches to reduce the number of unemployed health workers involves the government increasing its recruitment.

“In the 2026 budget, we are looking at the government giving us some clearance to be able to recruit more, and they will spread it across the pharmacists and nurses so that every cadre will be able to get that kind of equitable distribution of recruitment,” Honourable Mintah Akandoh said.

  • Lands Ministry proposes new “Minerals and Mining Royalties 2025” to adjust rise or fall of gold prices

Lands Ministry proposes new “Minerals and Mining Royalties 2025” to adjust rise or fall of gold prices

Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has laid before Parliament the Minerals and Mining Royalty Regulations, 2025, a new Legislative Instrument (L.I.)  intended to to adjust mining royalties.

The proposed regulations establish a sliding-scale royalty framework, allowing royalty rates to adjust automatically in response to fluctuations in global commodity prices and  to ensure the state derives maximum benefit during periods of high commodity prices while offering relief to investors when prices fall.

“Today, I’m proud to say that I have brought a regulation that gives us a sliding scale agreement. The advantage is that it allows the state to capture the benefit in good times, like in the gold sector, and I have to tell you we’ve done it across the mineral sector,” Mr Buah told journalists in parliament last week.

He explained that when Ghana initially struck its lithium deal, global lithium prices were around $3,000, which led to a 10% royalty rate. Now, with the new sliding-scale system, any price above that level will earn the government a higher share.

“But today, with the sliding scale I’ve brought, even when we get to $2,500, which achieved 10%, when we get to $3,000, because of the sliding scale, $3,000 plus will go to 12%. In fact, if you do the calculation at that point, it means that $3,000, government is saving  almost over $500 million,” he noted.

The proposed Minerals and Mining Royalties 2025, according to the Minister, will also also safeguard mining companies during downturns, as royalty rates would automatically adjust downward when prices decline.

Mr Buah stressed that the regulations provide predictability for investors, reducing uncertainty around fiscal terms.

“What is important for investors? It gives them certainty. They are very sure that in Ghana, when the price tumbles, we will not be in trouble because the government automatically will reduce royalties. When prices go up, the government will also take advantage and capture the benefit,” he explained.

The new regulations go further than royalties by establishing a one per cent Community Development Fund to support infrastructure projects in the Mfantseman Municipality. The minister highlighted that previous agreements did not include such provisions.

“I’m very happy today that we’ve strengthened it. We’ve even had provision in the lithium agreement that I’ve laid today. Infrastructure provisions was not in the 2023 agreement. It is in now,” he added.

The Legislative Instrument (L.I.) covers all mining agreements and aims to improve transparency, protect investor interests, and boost government earnings from Ghana’s minerals once Parliament gives its approval.

On the other hand, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, the Ranking Member of the Lands and Natural Resources Committee, contends that the agreement works against public interest and diminishes trust in Ghana’s resource management system.

In the same vein, an Act of Parliament (ACT 1140) in the year 2025,  established the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) to oversee, regulate and undertake the buying, selling, assaying, refining, exporting and other related activities in respect of Gold and other Precious Minerals in Ghana.

The GoldBod per section 78 of ACT 1140, took over the rights, obligations, assets, liabilities and workforce of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) Limited, which is an offshoot of the Ghana Diamond Marketing Board.

In 1963, the Ghana Diamond Marketing Board was established and charged with the responsibility of purchasing and marketing Ghana’s diamonds.

In 1965, by a Legislative Instrument (LI) 401, the Ghana Diamond Marketing Board was incorporated as a State-Owned Enterprise (SOE).

Upon the promulgation of the diamonds decree (NRCD 32) in 1972, LI 916 was enacted to change the company’s name to Diamond Marketing Corporation.

In 1989, PNDC Law 219 was enacted to yet again change the Company’s name to the Precious Minerals Marketing Corporation with enhanced functions to grade, assay, value gold, diamonds and other precious minerals of the country.

In the year 2000, the Corporation was converted by the Statutory Corporations Conversion to Companies Act (ACT 461) to a Limited Liability Company to operate under the Ghana Companies Code Act, (ACT 179) 1963, as Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) Limited with the same functions.

In the year 2016, the PMMC was appointed the national assayer by the government of Ghana.

To strengthen industry regulation and optimize national benefits, the Ghana GoldBod was established on 2 April, 2025 by the government of Ghana to restructure and streamline the precious mineral trading sector of Ghana.

The GoldBod initiative is a product of extensive stakeholder consultations and aims at maximizing foreign exchange inflows, gold reserve accumulation and value addition for sustainable growth and transformation.

  • “I will not run away from tough decisions to protect children” — Sam George on online safety policy

“I will not run away from tough decisions to protect children” — Sam George on online safety policy

Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations of Ghana, Sam George has indicated that government is prepared to take difficult decisions to safeguard children online.

His comment comes amid progress to submit a policy on minors’ use of social media and access to pornographic content to Cabinet.

Speaking to the media weeks ago, he referred to Australia and UK who are already implementing social media laws denying children below 18 access to pornographic and adults contents.

“I will not run away as Minister…I will not run away from taking tough decisions to protect children. They may not like it today but tomorrow they will be grateful that we in authority today, with the responsibility of taking care of the future of our children, took action. If we fail to act today, the generation that’s coming behind us will blame us and call us bad leaders. So we’ll take the top decisions today,” he assured.

In addition to this assurance, the Honourable Minister revealed that plans are underway to submit a proposed law to Cabinet next year for approval. Once passed, the law will empower authorities to direct all ISPs in the country to block access to adult and pornographic websites for anyone under 18.

He said, users will be required to verify their age using their Ghana Card through the NIA database, a measure aimed at tackling the growing challenge of pornography and harmful adult content among young people.

“This past week I asked the Cyber Security Authority to draft the policy document which they have submitted to the ministry and we are studying on the use of of social media by kids and access to especially pornographic sites. I’m taking it to cabinet and if cabinet approves it, it will give us the mandate and the authority to instruct all ISPs and telecom companies in the country to do what happens in the UK,” Sam George stated.

In Ghana, the law strictly prohibits pornography involving children and any act that exposes minors to sexual content. A child is defined as anyone under 18 years.

Under the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038) and the Electronic Transactions Act, 2008 (Act 772), it is a criminal offence to create, possess, share, publish, stream, or store sexual images or videos involving a child. This includes content shared through phones, social media, websites, or messaging platforms.

    “Protection of Children Online.”

“Section 62—Indecent image or photograph of a child.”

“For purposes of paragraph (c) of subsection (1), a person publishes an indecent photograph, image or visual recording if that person parts with possession of the indecent photograph, image or recording to another person or exposes or offers the indecent photograph, image or recording for acquisition by another person.”

“For the purpose of this section, ‘indecent image or photographs’ includes material images, visual recording, video, drawing or text that depicts a child engaged in sexually explicit or suggestive conduct, a person who appears to be a child engaged in sexually explicit or suggestive conduct, image representing a child engaged in sexually explicit or suggestive conduct, or sexually explicit images of children.”

“It also includes any written material, visual representation or audio recording that advocates or counsels sexual activity with children that would be an offence under the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) or any other relevant enactment.”

“Any written material that has, as its dominant characteristic, the description, for a sexual purpose, of sexual activity with a child that would be an offence under the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) or any other relevant enactment, or any audio recording that has as its dominant characteristic the description, presentation or representation, for a sexual purpose, of sexual activity with a child that would be an offence under the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) or any other relevant enactment, is included.”

  • Peller apologizes to fans for attempting to kill himself

Peller apologizes to fans for attempting to kill himself

Popular TikToker Peller has publicly apologized to fans for attempting to commit suicide through reckless driving.

“I am sorry, Nigerians. Please, I’m sorry. I will never do that again. I’m very sorry, please. For now, I am on medication. Once I am done with my medication, I will be online,” he said in a video shared on TikTok.

The incident has been associated with Peller’s recent split from his girlfriend, Jarvis.

Jarvis had earlier made public that their relationship had ended, explaining that Peller’s difficulty in managing his emotions played a major role in the decision.

The Lagos State Police Command later confirmed that Peller had been arrested, explaining that his conduct was viewed as an intentional act that endangered both himself and other motorists.

Police reports indicate that the incident happened on Sunday, December 14, 2025, when Peller allegedly drove dangerously while streaming live on social media. The situation reportedly resulted in a serious accident on the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos.

Authorities further revealed that the matter has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further inquiries, noting that Peller will be arraigned before a court.

In response, the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, warned social media influencers and content creators to desist from encouraging reckless actions online, emphasizing that such behaviour will not be accepted.

A viral video that emerged on Sunday, December 14, 2025, captured the suspect recklessly driving on a public road while broadcasting it live on social media.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, Peller’s arrest was confirmed.

“The suspect will be charged in a court of competent jurisdiction in accordance with the law,” the police said.

Commissioner of Police CP Jimoh strongly warned social media influencers, content creators, and the public against taking part in or promoting risky, illegal, or dangerous activities for the sake of content.

He emphasized that such behaviour can threaten public safety and lead to loss of life, making it clear that the Police Command will not tolerate any lawlessness.

“The full weight of the law will be applied to anyone found culpable,” the statement added.

The police also called on all drivers and pedestrians to follow traffic rules closely, emphasizing the Command’s dedication to protecting lives, upholding public order, and promoting safety throughout the state.

In 2024, Ghanaian Musician Kofi Kinaata calmed fears following a car accident on Sunday, September 22, confirming that he escaped without injury while on his way to an event in the Western Region.

During a Facebook Live session, Kinaata detailed the events leading up to the accident, stating, “Everyone is doing well, and thanks for the concerns.”

The award-winning singer also dispelled rumors of a driver’s death, clarifying that the reports are false.

He explained that their vehicle, while heading to a show in Nkroful, was involved in an accident after a motorbike rider unexpectedly crossed their path.

He mentioned that the individuals on the motorbike sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital, but none of his team members were harmed.

‘We are following up on the conditions of those on the motorbike and we will update everyone on the latest development. We are praying for a speedy recovery,” he added.

In the same year, Ghanaian gospel artist and preacher Sonnie Badu opened up about a traumatic domestic accident he suffered in December 2023, which resulted in the loss of two toes.

Just days before his highly anticipated Rhythm of Africa Concert on December 9, Badu revealed he had undergone surgeries on his leg following the incident.“I went through depression for six months, I’m left with only three toes,” he said.

Despite his condition, he still performed at the concert in Accra, prompting speculation on social media that his injury might be a publicity stunt a claim he strongly refuted.

Now, in a September 2024 interview on Onua Showtime, Badu shared the harrowing details of the accident. He explained that he slipped while cleaning a staircase, which caused his leg to impale a sharp metal rail, leading to severe injuries.

“I was bleeding everywhere. We drove to the hospital and I walked to the emergency. When the doctors checked, they asked where are my toes. I asked, ‘Which toes?’ I asked my team members to go check with a torchlight and they saw the toes on the floor, picked it up, placed them in an iced box and brought it to the hospital. The doctors checked and refused it,” he narrated.

Badu also revealed that he battled depression for six months following the accident, stating, “I’m left with only three toes.” During the interview, he showed host Nana Ama McBrown images related to the incident, further validating his account.

Earlier this year, popular Ghanaian musician and socialite, Oseikrom Sikani, survived a terrifying car accident that left his vehicle wrecked but miraculously spared his life.

The accident happened on February 20, 2025, and the artiste took to Snapchat to share his experience. According to him, his car flipped over about eight times, yet he walked away with only minor injuries.

“(The car somersaulted) more than 8 times… I don’t understand. Told you I saw death today, still living my one life,” he posted.

Though he escaped unhurt, he jokingly mentioned that he lost his grills in the crash.

Photos from the scene showed the badly damaged car and some bruises on his body. Fans and well-wishers have since flooded social media with messages of relief and support.

Oseikrom Sikani has assured everyone that he is doing fine and will be back to his usual self soon.

  • I wanted to be a business woman or a lawyer – Celestine Donkor

I wanted to be a business woman or a lawyer – Celestine Donkor

Gospel musician Celestine Donkor revealed that she originally aspired to pursue a career in business or law, rather than music.

However, after hearing her sing at home, her mother recognized her musical talent and began introducing her to opportunities that ultimately helped her build a name and establish a niche in the gospel music industry.

“The plan was to be a businesswoman or to study law, but I ended up doing music,” she said in a one-on-one interview with Lekzy Decomic on Joy Prime’s prime time show.

Award-winning Ghanaian rapper, Sarkodie also revealed a couple of years ago that he had dreams of becoming a medical doctor.

According to Sarkodie, he would have aspired for a career in the medical field if his music career had not kicked off. Being a multitalented person, he added that he also had plans of putting his other talents to use.

“First, I wanted to be a doctor, I do arts; I paint, I sketch. So definitely something towards that direction…” he told NandoLeaks when asked about his passion aside music.

Sarkodie mentioned that coming up as an artiste, his mother gave him an ultimatum about his career.

He stated that his mother gave him up to a year to prove himself or get back to pursuing his education.

“She acted just like a regular African parent… they care about your future; they think their decision is the best for you. So I was lucky she gave me one year to prove myself and that was the same year that things started picking up. I was lucky. If it had skipped into the next year maybe I wouldn’t be sitting here with you,” he added.

Award-winning Ghanaian rapper, Derrick Sarfo Kantanka, popularly known as Amerado, has revealed that his decision to pursue music was driven by the need to survive, rather than fame.

“The main reason I got into music was to survive—I just wanted to eat,” he admitted. “Most of the time, I don’t even enjoy being an artiste,” he told  DJ Slim on Daybreak Hitz.

According to him, he is also bothered by the constant pressure to give out money to fans, especially while stuck in traffic.

“I feel restricted,” he said. “Whenever you’re in public, especially in traffic, you’re expected to hand out money to fans.”

Despite the challenges he faces as an artist, Amerado says that his stage performances are nothing short of fulfilling.

However, “The maintenance no be easy,” he added, stressing the demands and expectations that follow the life of a musician.

Two years ago, the “Grace” rapper mentioned to Graphic Showbiz that he would never quit music to chase his academic dreams.

At the time, he was a first-year student reading Political Science at the University of Ghana, Legon, where he acknowledged the huge demands of education but stressed that it would never influence him to shelve his music pursuit.

“…I am never going to drop music. There’s no way I will quit music. No, not at all. I may give more time to my academics when school is in session and concentrate on music when we are on recess,” he said.

Speaking on pursuing other career paths, the rapper mentioned that he will pursue politics as long as it doesn’t affect his music career negatively.

“I believe music business works hand in hand with politics because in both ventures, we are always working to convince people to become our core followers. Once I realise politics won’t hurt my music career, I will go into it,” he said.

Amerado is known for songs such as Grace, Obiaa Boa, Sin No More, Metua, Back 2 Sender , Kwaku Ananse, Abotr3, among others.

In  2023, the musician made history by becoming the first rapper to win the Best Rapper award at the Vodafone Ghana Music Award (VGMA), which has now been rebranded as Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs.

He was optimistic that his song, “Ankonam,” would win Reggae Song of the Year at the 2025 VGMAs, however, he lost it to Stonebwoy.

Meanwhile, he earned five nominations at the 2023 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) in the categories of Hiplife/Hiphop Artiste of the Year, Hiplife Song of the Year, Collaboration of the Year, Best Lyrical Performer of the Year and Hiphop Song of the Year.

Nigerian music executive and Mavin Records founder, Don Jazzy, has shared how focusing on music cost him a marriage.

He made this admission during his appearance on the Echo Podcast, aired on September 26. Reflecting on what he believes he almost lost in his pursuit of success, Don Jazzy pointed to marriage.

He explained that he had always imagined being married by forty, yet at forty-two, he remains unmarried. While he is open to marriage if the opportunity arises, he stressed that it is not something that keeps him up at night.

“I never thought that I’d be 40-something and not be married when I was growing up. So I’ll say maybe I already lost that one. But don’t mind me. I’m not even interested in this very moment. It’s not like I’m not interested, but it doesn’t bother me like that. If it comes, it comes. If it doesn’t come, I’m totally fine,” he said.

Asked what he would have become if he hadn’t been a musician and producer, he responded that he would still have been in the music industry as a manager or

“Maybe I would have still been in the music industry, maybe as a manager, still the same thing. Or now, I’ll probably be an investment banker. Or maybe a footballer. I’m a Man U fan. But now I like forex trading. I saw the Bitcoin, crypto, I saw when you were praying for Bitcoin. It’s just that I always want to know what’s next. I’m inquisitive”, he noted.

  • Raising children is not my job — Joselyn Dumas on celebrity ban by FDA on alcohol Ads

Raising children is not my job — Joselyn Dumas on celebrity ban by FDA on alcohol Ads

Popular Ghanaian actress and television personality Joselyn Dumas has criticised the Food and Drugs Authority’s (FDA) decision to ban celebrities from advertising alcoholic beverages.

She argued that the FDA’s claim that celebrities serve as role models for children and therefore should not be alcohol brand ambassadors is unfair and misguided.

In her view, the responsibility rests with parents to properly raise their children, and celebrities should not be blamed if parents fail to do so.

“Alcohol is part of entertainment. So, if you’re going to ban us from endorsing alcoholic beverages, then ban alcoholic beverages as well.”

“You’re saying that because I’m a role model, a child is going to look at me advertising alcohol and start drinking…If you can’t raise your child, what has that to do with me? It’s a personal choice,” she stated on the “Keeping It Real” show.

Last year, a member of the Supreme Court, Justice Barbara Ackah-Yensu, ruled that the Food and Drugs Authority’s (FDA) guideline prohibiting celebrities from promoting alcoholic beverages is discriminatory and should be invalidated.

Justice Ackah-Yensu declared that the rule, which states “No well-known personality or professional shall be used in alcoholic beverage advertising,” is deemed “unconstitutional.”

As one of the two judges who opposed the majority 5-2 decision supporting the FDA’s ban on celebrity endorsements of alcoholic drinks, Justice Ackah-Yensu labeled the directive as “unconstitutional.”

In her dissenting opinion, outlined in a 75-page judgment delivered on June 19, 2024, and supported by Justice Prof. Henrietta Mensa-Bonsu, but made public on July 15, 2024, Justice Ackah-Yensu criticized the FDA guidelines as “discriminatory.”

“In conclusion, I am convinced that the Plaintiff has made a compelling case that supports the conclusion that Guideline 3.2.10, which seeks to debar ‘well-known personalities and professionals’ from engaging in alcoholic beverages advertisement, is discriminatory and unconstitutional.

“I therefore declare Guideline 3.2.10 of the Guidelines for the Advertisement of Foods published by the 1st Defendant (FDA) on February 1, 2016, is discriminatory, inconsistent with, and in contravention of Articles 17(1) and (2) of the 1992 Constitution, and thus unconstitutional.

“Accordingly, I hereby order the striking down of Guideline 3.2.10 of the said Guidelines as being inconsistent with and in contravention of the letter and spirit of the 1992 Constitution.

“Finally, the Defendants, their agents, servants, or assigns are perpetually restrained from acting under the said Guideline 3.2.10,” Justice Barbara Ackah-Yensu stated.

    Conclusion

In summarizing Justice Ackah-Yensu’s viewpoint, she stated, “I concur with the Plaintiff that many individuals engage in these advertisements as a means of earning a living. Consequently, it is an unconstitutional effort to undermine their economic opportunities simply because they can capture public interest.”

“I do not arrive at these conclusions oblivious of this Court being a policy court, and indeed empowered to direct the policy of the State,” she stated to buttress her point.

“I must state without equivocation that I subscribe fully to the discourse against the infiltration of our society, and especially motivating our young ones and minors to engage in alcohol and drug abuse.

“My subscription notwithstanding, I am guided by the constitutional tenets, its letter, and spirit.

“As admonished by the Court in the famous Tufour v Attorney-General (1980) GLR 637, every conduct must conform to the due process of law.

“The 1st Defendant must design a mechanism that is consistent with the Constitution to attain the mischief it seeks to cure with the publication of these guidelines, especially Guideline 3.2.10.

“Presently, however, in my view, Guideline 3.2.10 is inconsistent with and in contravention of Articles 17(1) and (2) of the 1992 Constitution. As aforesaid, there are already in place restrictions provided by the Liquor License Act and Guidelines 3.2.1 to 3.2.9 to ensure the responsible use of alcohol for public safety and health.

“And if Parliament finds it necessary to exclude any specific and defined group from advertising alcoholic beverages, it may so legislate.

“But for now, the blanket prohibition of persons who are said to be ‘well-known within society’ to advertise alcoholic beverages is discriminatory, arbitrary, and in contravention of the 1992 Constitution and same ought to be declared a nullity.

“I therefore declare Guideline 3.2.10 of the Guidelines for the Advertisement of Foods published by the 1st Defendant on February 1, 2016, is discriminatory, inconsistent with, and in contravention of Articles 17(1) and (2) of the 1992 Constitution, and thus unconstitutional.

“Accordingly, I hereby order the striking down of Guideline 3.2.10 of the said Guidelines as being inconsistent with and in contravention of the letter and spirit of the 1992 Constitution.

“Finally, the Defendants, their agents, servants, or assigns are perpetually restrained from acting under the said Guideline 3.2.10.”

On June 19, 2024, the Supreme Court, in a 5-2 majority ruling, affirmed the FDA’s directive prohibiting celebrities from promoting alcoholic beverages.

The seven-judge panel, led by Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo, determined that the FDA guideline was neither overly restrictive nor in violation of the 1992 Constitution.

“We find from the above that the Defendant has authority under the Public Health Act, 2012, Act 851, to issue guidelines in connection with food and drugs, including alcoholic beverages in order to regulate the production and consumption of these items with the aim of protecting and promoting the general well-being and health of all persons in Ghana.

“We find that guideline 3.2.10 was issued by the 15 Defendant within the general
powers conferred on the 1st Defendant by the Public Health Act, 2012, Act 851.

“We hold that guideline 3.2.10 is not unreasonable or excessive and that it is in the interest of the public health of Ghana. Consequently, guideline 3.2.10 is not discriminatory and it is neither inconsistent with nor contravenes articles 17(1) and (2) of the 1992 Constitution.

“The Plaintiff’s action therefore fails in its entirety and it is therefore dismissed,” the Majority stated.

The majority opinion was delivered by Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo, along with Justices Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, Mariama Owusu, and George Kingsley Koomson.

In 2015, the FDA introduced a directive prohibiting celebrities from endorsing alcoholic drinks.

The directive aimed to safeguard minors and promote public health.

Dissatisfied with this directive, Mark Darlington Osae, an artist manager, took the case to the Supreme Court, arguing that the FDA’s rules violated principles of equality and discriminated against the creative sector.

  • “You can marry anyone if you are truly forgiving, loving, and understanding” – Celestine Donkor

“You can marry anyone if you are truly forgiving, loving, and understanding” – Celestine Donkor

Gospel musician Celestine Donkor has highlighted factors she believes people can consider to marry and sustain a strong marriage, regardless of the person involved.

According to her, “true love, true understanding and true forgiveness” are the main factors to keep a marriage strong in her opinion.

The ‘Agbeboloo’ singer stated that with these tips in mind, “I believe you can marry any guy.”

“What introduced love to us is Christ, and Christ loved us while we were still sinners. Love is supposed to be done to imperfect people, but we humans want to love perfect people, and that is the struggle,” she stated in a one on one interview with Lekzy Decomic on Joy Prime’s prime Show.

She further recounted a difficult moment in her marriage when she had a misunderstanding with her husband but still had to minister.

“I had to pull myself together and show up for ministration despite the circumstance,” she recalled, highlighting the discipline required to sustain both marriage and ministry.

On her music journey, the gospel singer revealed that she initially aspired to become a businesswoman or a lawyer, with music being the last thing on her mind.

However, her mother recognized her potential and introduced her to opportunities that have brought her this far.

“The plan was to be a businesswoman or to study law, but I ended up doing music,” she said.

Last year, she shared an inspiring tale of her love story that blossomed purely in the digital realm, leading to a lasting partnership with her husband, Kofi Donkor.

Speaking on TV3’s ‘Today’s Woman,’ the ‘Testimony’ hitmaker unveiled the unique beginnings of her relationship.

It all started when Kofi, living abroad at the time, reached out to her after obtaining her contact information from a mutual friend.

Their courtship unfolded through Yahoo Messenger chats and phone calls, with Kofi becoming convinced that Celestine was his destined life partner.

In a bold move, he requested an engagement list even before meeting her face-to-face.

Kofi’s dedication knew no bounds as he traveled to Ghana with one mission to marry Celestine, proving that their connection transcended physical boundaries.

Reflecting on their unconventional start, Celestine remarked, “We didn’t meet physically. We met online. A very close friend of mine traveled outside, and she met my husband, and they discussed me, so my husband took my number from her and started talking to me from Ghana. We were chatting on Yahoo Messenger and talking on the phone.”

Their love story deepened with spiritual synchronicity, as Kofi expressed that Celestine was the fulfillment of a divine revelation.

“He said he also prayed about me, and before he met me through my friend, there was a word he was looking forward to… So, when he met my friend and there was a discussion, he got to know that this is the person the man of God spoke about,” she shared.

Their bond extended beyond personal life into professional collaboration, with Kofi managing Celestine’s music career for over a decade, providing unwavering support and guidance.

Their union has been blessed with three children, showcasing the enduring strength of a relationship rooted in faith, love, and the digital age.

A couple f months ago, hiplife pioneer, Reggie Rockstone, advised that dating should be the focus of singles who lack the virtue of patience.

According him, his years of marriage experience has proven to him that marriage requires hard work and a lot of patience to sustain it.

“Just continue being in relationships and don’t think of marriage if you’re impatient. It’s a hard work, but it’s easy as well. Love is good and it’s natural to have a partner,”  he said in an interview on Joy Prime on November 19, 2025.

Addressing the public perception that dating or marrying a celebrity is difficult, Reggie Rockstone explained that celebrities are humans too, experiencing life in different ways just like everyone else.

“I’m like everybody else. I go through the ups and downs, I’m actually a stubborn man. Marriage is work. If you’re not patient enough, don’t try it,” he said.

She is exceptionally beautiful, I want to marry her after her widowhood rites – Former MP to Odo Broni

Former Member of Parliament for Adenta, Kojo Adu Asare, has expressed admiration for the late Daddy Lumba’s, second wife Priscilla Ofori Atta, popularly known as Odo Broni.

Mr. Kojo Adu Asare has stated that despite Odo Broni being a mother of six, he still sees her as a woman he would gladly marry if given the opportunity, once she completes her widowhood rites.

“Odo Broni is an exceptionally beautiful woman. I admire her, especially her calm and gentle nature. I feel drawn to her and would like to pursue a meaningful relationship with her after she completes her widowhood rites. It’s not about marrying her to have children together; rather, I want to help raise her six children and also preserve Daddy Lumba’s legacy,” he stated in an interview on Asempa FM on December 17, 2025.

Odo Broni (Priscilla Ofori Atta) and Akosua Serwaa Fosuh have both been declared by the Kumasi High Court to be the spouses of the late Daddy Lumba.

This means they can both perform the widowhood rites.

The landmark ruling, ends months of fierce legal and public debate over who should perform the musician’s widowhood rites, who controls his estate, and who rightfully bears the title of “widow”.

The court held that Akosua Serwaa failed to submit the original marriage certificates for the alleged civil marriage between Daddy Lumba and the plaintiff. What she presented were only extracts, not certified copies.

With this decision, the path is now clear for the late music icon’s funeral to proceed.

    Background to the Case

After the death of Daddy Lumba on 26 July 2025, a bitter dispute erupted between two women who claim to be his rightful spouse.
    Graphic Online

Akosua Serwaa Fosuh filed a suit on 3 October 2025, asking the court to declare her as the only surviving lawful spouse, a claim based on a civil marriage she said she contracted with the musician in Bornheim, Germany, in 2004.

She also sought to restrain the head of the musician’s extended family, Kofi Owusu Fosu, and Odo Broni from claiming any right to funeral and widowhood rites.

The defendants opposed the claim, arguing that under customary practice, Serwaa’s marriage had been dissolved when she allegedly “returned the head drinks” to the family, a traditional act recognising separation, and that Odo Broni, who lived with Daddy Lumba for over 15 years and bore him six children, was the rightful widow.

    What Happened in Court

On 25 November 2025, the court was presented with the supposed original civil-marriage documents from Germany, including notary-certified translations and associated paperwork, supporting Akosua

The defence challenged these documents, citing inconsistencies in font styles and notary signatures, arguing the evidence was submitted “at the eleventh hour.”

The presiding judge, Dorinda Smith Arthur, noted that under Ghanaian family law, simultaneous customary and civil marriages are redundant, as each is independently valid. This observation, made during the hearing, effectively opened the door to recognising multiple marital claims simultaneously.

With cross-examinations completed, the court reserved judgment. On the verdict day, it ruled that both women are to be recognised as spouses of Daddy Lumba, entitling them to certain marital rights and recognising their status in relation to funeral, estate and widowhood rites.

Prophet Kumchacha has warned that three members of the late Daddy Lumba’s family may loose their lives if the family fails to bury the late musician peacefully.

This comes at a time where the two partners of the musician are in court seeking redress on who should be recognized as the legal wife.

Kumchacha explained that his dreams indicated that anyone who blocks Lumba’s funeral or disrupts harmony among his family members would face harsh consequences, as Lumba’s spirit would return for three people after the burial.

“I also saw that Daddy Lumba said anyone who refuses to allow his burial to be held peacefully, and for peace to reign in the family, he will come and take three persons with him to the graveyard,” he stated.

He added that the late musician is seen in handcuffs and weeping in the realms of the spirit.

Thus, he foresees tragedy unfolding from the spiritual realm, which would manifest in the physical world should the burial go ahead on December 13, 2025.

“I have had several dreams and as I speak, Daddy Lumba’s spirit is sad. In the spiritual realm, he is in handcuffs and weeping. If they try to bury him on December 13, something tragic will happen spiritually and it will be felt in the physical world as well. They should move the funeral to around the sixth month of next year,” Kumchacha  UTV’s United Showbiz on November 22, 2025.

The burial date for Daddy Lumba has been changed from 6th December to December 13, 2025.

According to report, the date extension will provide the family with ample time to know the cause of the musician’s death before his burial.

The late Daddy Lumba’s elder sister, Ernestina Fosu has declared that there will be no burial for Daddy Lumba until the actual cause of his death is known.

After a court appearance, Ernestina told Adum TV that until the truth is known, no amount of court ruling or family decision would compel her to allow the funeral to proceed.

“The funeral will not be held on December 6. We did not seek an injunction because we are mad. We still don’t know what killed my brother. We cannot allow people to rush with his funeral,” she said.

However, she has expressed readiness to organize the funeral on the scheduled December 6 if she receives a clear explanation about what caused Daddy Lumba’s death before then.

“There will be no problem if we find out about the cause of Daddy Lumba’s death before December 6. But if we don’t find out what killed my brother, I won’t allow my family to bury my brother, Charles,” she said.

Ernestina Fosu has earlier indicated that she is not prepared to organize Daddy Lumba’s funeral on Dec 6.

She made this known to the media in the aftermath of a court proceeding at the Kumasi High Court on October 28, 2025.

“I am not ready for my brother’s funeral on December 6, 2025,” she stated firmly in a video shared on social media.

Akosua Serwaa filed an injunction against the late musician’s funeral scheduled for December 6, demanding that she be recognized as the only surviving wife of the musician and not Odo Broni, who is currently claiming that title.

While the court has yet to rule on the spousal status of Akosua Serwaa and Odo Broni, the Kumasi High Court has dismissed an injunction application that sought to halt the burial and funeral of the late legend.

The judgment allows the family to go ahead with burial plans as originally arranged.

Madam Serwaa’s lawyer, William Kusi, insisted that his client was the musician’s only legally recognized wife and that her rights were being ignored in the funeral preparations. He supported his argument with a civil marriage certificate reportedly issued in Germany as evidence of their union.

In July this year, a statement by the counsel for the Fosu family confirmed that the music veteran passed on July 26, after a short illness.

He succumbed to the illness at the Bank Hospital in Accra, per reports.

The statement read: “With profound sorrow and deep grief, the Fosu family announces the passing of Ghana’s beloved musical icon, Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, who passed away earlier today, Saturday, July 26, 2025, after a short illness.”

“Daddy Lumba was more than a musician; he was a cultural icon whose music touched countless lives. His soulful voice provided the soundtrack to our love stories, and his poignant lyrics captured the poetry of our struggles, dreams, and resilience.”

Daddy Lumba was renowned for his incredible talent as a singer, composer, songwriter, recording artist, and producer.

With an illustrious career that has spanned over three decades, Daddy Lumba was widely regarded as the greatest and most influential musician in Ghanaian history.

Many artists in Ghana, including Ofori Amponsah, Sarkodie, Kuami Eugene, Paa Solo of Sibo Brothers, Oheneba Kissi, KiDi, and others, consider him their major inspiration in the music industry.

Daddy Lumba was born 60 years ago to Mr. Johnson Kwadwo Fosuh and Madam Comfort Gyamfi, also known as Ama Saah, in Nsuta, near Mampong in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Both of his parents were teachers, and he was the second of three siblings.

His educational journey began in Nsuta Kyebi, and he completed junior high school at Suame Methodist, Kumasi in 1979. Subsequently, he attended Adu Gyamfi Senior High School in Jamasi, but later transferred to Juaben Senior High School, where he completed his secondary education in 1984.

Daddy Lumba’s music career took off in the early 80s when he formed the Nkwanta Wesley Singers, gaining fame at the Anokye Krom Cultural Center.

During his time at Juaben Senior High School, he led the school choir and composed the song “Lumba Lumba,” dedicated to the freedom fighters in South Africa.

This song’s popularity earned him the nickname “Daddy Lumba”, which later became his stage name. He also formed the Lumba Brothers band during his school days, which included his girlfriend at the time, Theresa.

After completing school, Daddy Lumba, with the help of his high school sweetheart Theresa Abebrese, traveled to Germany. There, he met Ernest Nana Acheampong, and they formed another Lumba Brothers group, recording their debut album, “Yee Ye Aka Akwantuom,” in 1986. Financial constraints delayed the album’s release until 1989, and eventually, the duo split.

Daddy Lumba then launched his solo career and released his debut solo album, “Obi Ate Meso Buo,” in 1990. The album received immense popularity and critical acclaim, featuring classics like the title track and “Theresa,” dedicated to his ex-lover. He has since released 33 albums, including notable ones like “Sika Asem,” “Aben Wo Ha,” “Wo Ho Kyere,” “Awosoo,” “Give Peace A Chance,” and “Ahenfo Kyiniye.” His latest project, “Ofon Na Edi Asem Fo,” was released in December 2022, reuniting him with longtime collaborator Kweku Mensah.

In addition to his own success, Daddy Lumba is renowned for nurturing the careers of budding artists who went on to become legends in their own right.

Some of these artists include Felix Owusu, for whom he produced the debut album “Vida” in 1992, Afia Ampofowaa, Kwabena Sunkwa, Ofori Amponsah with the “Woho Kyere” album in 1999, Selina Orleans, Akua Serwaa Bonsu, Borax, Ateaa Tina, and many others.

His contributions to Ghanaian music and the support he provides to upcoming talents have solidified his status as an iconic figure in the country’s music industry.

With his passion, talent, and dedication to the craft, Daddy Lumba continues to be a role model for aspiring musicians, leaving an indelible mark on the rich musical landscape of Ghana.

Ghana deploys military engineers to support Jamaica’s post-hurricane reconstruction

President John Dramani Mahama has deployed troops from the 48, 49 and 50 Engineer Regiments to offer support to Jamaica’s post-hurricane reconstruction.

The United Nations, has reported that Jamaica is struggling to rebuild after Hurricane Melissa’s unprecedented destruction fifty days on.

As a result, President Mahama decided to send engineering troops following direct discussions with Jamaica’s Prime Minister after initial relief supplies were delivered.

Addressing the soldie sent on the aid mission, President Mahama said the deployment reflected Ghana’s long-standing commitment to helping countries in need.

“We’re gathered here today for a solemn and proud national duty to see off officers and men of the Ghana Armed Forces who have been selected to represent Ghana on a humanitarian reconstruction mission to Jamaica following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.”

“This deployment reflects Ghana’s solidarity with the people of Jamaica and our shared history, values, and bonds within the African-Caribbean family,” the President said.

Adding his comment to the address, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Okudzeto Ablakwa noted that the nation is grateful to the gallant men and women for always making Ghana proud in various theatres across the world.

“President John Dramani Mahama believes that our foreign policy should be defined by not how much we can take from others but by how much we share with others. We all do know that Hurricane Melissa has rigged a lot of havoc. Over 40 Jamaicans have died. Analysts say that the destruction is in excess of 8.8 billion dollars and our friendly nation of Jamaica is on its needs,” Mr Ablakwa indicated.

Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Accra, Rolf Olson shared his remarks.

“The United State is honoured to support Ghana’s mission and to make this recovery by providing strategic C-17 air lift support for the fourteenth engineering brigade of Ghana’s army,” he stated.

According to reports by the United Nations, fifty days have passed since Hurricane Melissa ravaged Jamaica, leaving behind an unprecedented trail of destruction.

Current estimates place the total damage and loss between $8 billion and $15 billion – nearly a quarter of Jamaica’s gross domestic product (GDP), said Dennis Zulu, UN Resident Coordinator for Jamaica, the Bahamas, Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, and Turks and Caicos.

The hurricane affected more than 626,000 people and claimed 45,000 lives, underscoring its profound human toll.

Despite notable progress in recovery efforts, 90 emergency shelters are still up and running, accommodating nearly 950 people who have yet to return home.

Entire communities are still fully exposed, with at least 120,000 buildings – most of them in southwestern Jamaica – having lost their roofs, reported Mr. Zulu.

Hurricane Melissa triggered “prolonged” and “cascading” disruptions to essential services, added the resident coordinator.

“Western parishes were left without electricity for weeks on end.”

In addition, many children remain out of school due to extensive damage to educational facilities.

Approximately 450 schools, nearly two-thirds of all institutions nationwide, have reported significant impacts, including roof loss, structural failure, and other damages.

The tourism industry and agricultural production – once the cornerstones of Jamaica’s economy and major sources of employment – have suffered extensive damage, putting thousands of jobs and livelihoods at risk, adding further strain.

This scale of destruction has not only been unprecedented, but it has also really reversed hard-won development gains in a country that was firmly on a positive social and economic trajectory,” emphasised M. Zulu.

Despite these challenges, the United Nations continues to work closely with the Government of Jamaica, national institutions, civil society, and international partners, delivering life-saving aid to the most vulnerable communities.

Immediate priorities for recovery include restoring health services to safe and fully functional operating levels.

Efforts will be made to support the education sector, particularly as schools prepare to reopen. Assistance will be provided to restore essential community services in areas still without access. Recovery plans will contribute to the repair and reconstruction of homes, roads, and critical infrastructure.

Livelihoods will be restored through targeted support to small farmers, fishers, and micro and small enterprises.

The agriculture sector will be strengthened to enhance food production, food security, and rural employment. Support will be extended to the tourism sector, a key employer and source of foreign exchange, to safeguard jobs and accelerate recovery.

All recovery efforts will be inclusive, climate-resilient, and risk-informed, enabling Jamaica to rebuild stronger and better than before.

Salvation delivered me from a 27-year struggle with masturbation – Tonto Dikeh

Nollywood star Tonto Dikeh has shared details of her past life that did not align with pleasing the Lord.

According to, she struggles with addiction and started smoking in her early teenage years.

“I smoked since I was 13. God healed me from masturbation, too. I have known myself to have sexual intercourse in a dream ever since I was a child,” the actress said.

She says the addictions were “demonic oppression,” but believes she has been completely freed through divine intervention.

The 40-year-old said God also recently healed her from “demonic anger,” which she said previously affected her relationships and personal life.

After the actress’ testimony, Pastor Jerry Eze, the founder, prayed for her, declaring that “the burden of sin is broken” and describing her as “a voice in her generation.”

Tonto Dikeh has revealed that she is now experiencing true peace after her recent commitment to God  through Pastor Jerry Eze’s New Season Prophetic Prayers and Declarations (NSPPD).

While sharing her testimony on Sunday December 14 at Streams of Joy International, the Nigerian actress stated that this is not just a testimony, but a thanksgiving to God.

“I got a lot of peace surrounding me… I have never known peace. I’m 40 years old and I can tell you I do not know what peace is. I’m just feeling it. I’m just knowing it. I’m just living in it,” she indicted.

She explained, ahead of plans to share this testimony, the enemy attempted to stop her, but she was empowered to rather stop the enemy.

“… The devil tried to tell me that I was bigger than this—coming to church to say my testimony. The devil tried to tell me that I was supposed to protect my image. But I looked at myself and told myself: ‘What image? What image?’ I know, the God that gave me the image or the one that can take it away just like that. No, the devil was too small for me not to say this. Thank you, Lord Jesus. Thank you, Holy Spirit. El-Roi.” She explained.

Tonto Dikeh also opened up about the personal struggles that once overshadowed her life. She revealed that she lived with a “demonic anger” that negatively affected her relationships and blocked many opportunities.

“I have lived with a demonic anger… an anger that fueled me, that destroyed my life,” she shared. “They say, ‘Don’t burn the bridge.’… I’ll be on the bridge and burn the bridge, and the car coming with the water to save the bridge, I would burn it! That is how demonic it was.”

She described herself as a “chimney,” having smoked for 27 years since the age of 13.

Dikeh revealed she made a direct prayer to God: “If you want me to walk this walk with you, this is something I cannot do alone… I want to preach your word. I can’t, I can’t, I can’t preach your word and come back and still have this in my hands.”

She testified that the Holy Spirit first brought overwhelming shame, and then the urge itself was shattered. “I’m telling you about the urge was broken. I’m telling you about every yoke broken… My body does not need it. My body does not ask for it. My body is repelling it.”

This deliverance extended to alcohol abuse. Dikeh confessed to being an alcoholic who would drink and pass out.

She said, “You’re also looking at an alcoholic. I would drink and I would pass out. I didn’t care who was looking. In fact, it made me… I never went out. I hated going out because of these habits. I didn’t want other people to be able to see it, I didn’t want people to know it. I would drink at home and I will pass out. I’ll be drunk. I’m telling you, I’m not saying a few cups of alcohol. I’m not telling you two bottles of alcohol a day, and I’m not saying little, because I’m telling you about big vodka bottles.

But today, hallelujah, somebody! But today, but today: Broken! Broken! God restored a lot. He restored a lot.” She testified.

The Nollywood star also testified to receiving healing from spiritual oppression, including long-term struggles with. She declared that after a prayer conference, “the wicked man who held me captive all my years… ran away!”

The actress concluded her powerful testimony by confirming her commitment to her new life, stating that she has made a covenant with God “it is me and you” she said.

Tonto Dikeh has confidently surrendered her entire life to God after an encounter she had with the Holy Spirit.

According to a post she shared on Instagram, the actress revealed that she was involved in sexual sin, struggling with uncontrollable anger that cost her several valuable relationships as well as depression.

But an encounter with the Holy Spirit completely brought her deliverance.

“Jesus healed me from a rage that once ruled my life. I used to have a fuse so short it could ignite a storm. I destroyed relationships, opportunities, and peace without a second thought. My anger was not power; it was pain disguised as control. But one day, I broke down and cried out like a child. I was tired of being ruled by my emotions. And El-Roi, the God who sees me, saw me. He didn’t condemn me. He covered me with mercy and completely healed me.”

“I lived in pain, breathed it, and wore it like a second skin. Depression was my closest companion, and I attempted suicide. But God said, ‘Child, get up.’ And I did. Weak, trembling, but alive,” the surrendered Tonto Dikeh wrote.

According to her, her decision to live a godly life began during her secondary school days but she eventually drifted away.

Nonetheless, she noted she has rededicated her life to God and is committed to staying true to her faith.

“I gave my life to Christ after secondary school, but I took His love for granted. Life showed me its harshest lessons, and the enemy showed me pain without mercy. That was when I ran back to my first Love. And that return has been the most beautiful and fulfilling journey of my life. I am not ashamed to say it loudly: My life belongs to God,” she wrote.

In 2023, the actress opened up about her shortcomings.

Expressing herself on her instagram page, the mother of one stated that no matter how hard she tries, she would never be as perfect as Jesus.

Tonto Dikeh admitted that she isn’t perfect and didn’t profess to be, adding that she is just a young woman who is still thriving and developing.

“I am not perfect. I don’t claim to be. I could never be Jesus, even if I tried. I am just a girl growing, glowing. I am just a girl growing, glowing. Happy Living and just God’s radical baby”.

Tonto Dikeh was heavily blamed for her failed marriage and other failed relationships witnessed on social media.

Oscars to start streaming on Youtube from 2029

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that the Academy Awards will begin streaming exclusively on YouTube in 2029.

While sharing the information on Wednesday, December 17 2025, the Academy mentioned that it signed a multi-year deal that will give YouTube the exclusive global rights to the Oscars until 2033.

This is the latest big change in Hollywood dealing with studio sales and mergers, along with steep production cuts.

Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Lynette Howell Taylor said in a statement, “The Academy is an international organization, and this partnership will allow us to expand access to the work of the Academy to the largest worldwide audience possible – which will be beneficial for our Academy members and the film community.”

Over decades, viewership of the awards show has declined, though there was a slight uptick in 2025, with a significant number of younger viewers tuning in from cell phones and computers.

In a statement, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan called the Oscars “one of our essential cultural institutions” and said that partnering with the Academy would “inspire a new generation of creativity and film lovers while staying true to the Oscars’ storied legacy”.

ABC, which has aired the awards since 1976, said it is looking ahead to the final three ceremonies it will still broadcast.

The development comes as Warner Bros Discovery advised its shareholders on Wednesday to reject a hostile takeover offer from Paramount Skydance in favour of a competing bid from streaming company Netflix.

Industry observers say neither option is favourable for a sector that has suffered heavy cutbacks in recent years. Like major film studios, cable television networks have struggled as audiences increasingly turn to streaming platforms.

YouTube securing the rights to the Academy Awards further points to a future where streaming services continue to dominate.

Movies made with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) can now compete for top honors at the Oscars, according to new rules from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

In a statement released in April 2025, the Academy explained that using AI or other digital tools in a film’s production will not increase or reduce its chances of being nominated. The update comes as part of a wider move to clarify how technology fits into modern filmmaking.

Some of this year’s Oscar-winning films already used AI in creative ways. For example, “The Brutalist,” which earned Adrian Brody the Best Actor award, used AI to fine-tune the actor’s Hungarian accent. In the musical “Emilia Perez,” AI voice-cloning tools helped improve the singing voices of the cast.

Even though AI is becoming more common in filmmaking, the Academy made it clear that human involvement will still play a major role in deciding which films deserve to win.

These new guidelines were shaped by recommendations from the Academy’s Science and Technology Council.

Along with the AI update, the Academy has also introduced another important rule: moving forward, voters must watch all the nominated films in a category before they are allowed to vote for the winner. This change is meant to make the selection process more fair and informed.

AI is now being used more widely in music and film production because it can quickly adjust voices, images, or even entire scenes. However, not everyone is excited about this shift. Many actors and artists are concerned that AI might take away jobs or use their work without permission.

The Academy’s new stance suggests that as technology continues to evolve, the film industry—and its biggest awards—will continue to adapt as well.

Actors and screenwriters previously highlighted fears about losing work to AI during the 2023 strikes in Hollywood.

“If you can take my face, my body and my voice and make me say or do something that I had no choice about, that’s not a good thing,” actress Susan Sarandon told the BBC from a picket line.

And screenwriters are concerned studios would seek to cut costs and save time by using tools like OpenAI’s ChatGPT for tasks such as researching, treatment and script writing, instead of humans.

Safeguards around the use of AI were established as part of the agreements reached between unions and studios that marked the end of the strikes.

But while some actors have seemingly embraced the technology, others, such as Scarlett Johansson, have issued warnings about its potential to allow abuse of their image or likeness.

Animators told the BBC in 2024 generative AI tools were not yet good enough to be able to replicate the quality of their work – certainly not to an award-winning standard.

“It’s like having a bad writer help you,” said Jonathan Kendrick, co-founder and chairman of global streaming service Rokit Flix.

“Sure it will get an outline done, but if you need something with emotional weight, an AI isn’t going to get you an Oscar.”

In an interview on TV3’s New Day with Cookie Tee, she explained that her divorce was peaceful and she is still in good terms with her ex-husband, Maxwell.

“I’m the most happiest right now. I have done through divorce. Yes, I am divorced. I am, and I am not ashamed to say but I did so beautifully. Me and my husband are cool. We spoke yesterday, we speak today, we speak tomorrow, we meet, I go to our house [to see] my in laws and everything.”

Look, I am a happy woman. We are the best of friends. We didn’t go through it like the bitter ones. I was tired, he was tired. We sat down, we said let’s talk about it. Let’s move on,” she said.

She added that although her former in laws and ex husband wanted her to remain in the marriage, she felt unable to continue.

“He is a correct guy. I still feel him but I got tired of the marriage,” the multi talented showbiz personality said.

McBrown said her greatest source of happiness from the marriage is the child she has with Maxwell Mensah, describing their daughter as a treasured blessing.

“I will not marry again. I can give birth again but I won’t marry again,” she noted.

“I have married for 12 years. When you see celebrities that has married for 12 years, applaud them,” she added.

Prior to her public announcement, there had been widespread rumours that the couple were experiencing difficulties in their marriage. Some reports suggested that alleged extra marital affairs on the part of Maxwell Mensah had contributed to the breakdown of the relationship.

Nana Ama McBrown and Maxwell Mensah got married 12 years ago and are blessed with a daughter, Maxine.

Nana Ama McBrown has revealed that she never encountered secret advances from colleagues in the movie industry, attributing this to her openness about her relationships.

“When I entered the movie industry, I didn’t meet anyone who tried to sneak their way into a secret affair with me because I don’t hide my relationships,” she stated. “I can’t hide who I’m with. It’s a must that I show whoever I’m with to the public.”

Recounting her early years in the industry, McBrown shared a fond memory of her first romantic relationship with Morris, a man who played a pivotal role in her acting journey.

“There was a man who gave me my first movie script early in my career, his name is Morris. Every time we were on set, he held my hand and guided me. He taught me a lot of things and helped me navigate through. He’s extremely handsome, soft-spoken, charming, and respectful,” she reminisced.

Describing him further, she said, “A fair-skinned Akuapem man. Everyone can attest to this. Before we finished our project, we became sweethearts.”

McBrown revealed that their relationship was no secret.

“Our relationship became known to a lot of people, and we dated for two and a half years. His family and everyone around him knew me. People didn’t make passes at me because everyone knew about us, and Morris was a highly respected person.”

The interviewer, Kwesi Ernest, playfully remarked, “I’m sure after this, a lot of people will start searching for him.”

McBrown, laughing, responded, “Let them search, he is a nice guy.”

Ghanaian media personality MzGee also set the record straight months ago regarding her relationship with her ex-husband, Raymond Acquah, and the paternity of her child.

Following her pregnancy announcement on January 13, 2025, speculation arose about the father of her unborn child. However, in a YouTube vlog posted on February 27, MzGee clarified that Raymond Acquah, also a media personality, is not the father and urged the public to stop associating him with her child.

“Once upon a time, you knew a certain Raymond Acquah whom I was married to. Unfortunately, we have been separated for three years and officially divorced for two years. So, I have no ties with him,” she stated.

She further emphasized her concern about her child’s identity, stating, “Now, there is a son involved, and I do not want him growing up confused about his paternity. When people ask who his father is, he should not say Raymond Acquah, no. I have no connection with him anymore.”

MzGee and Raymond Acquah were married in 2017, but their union ended in divorce. In 2022, MzGee publicly shared her struggles with childbirth, including a miscarriage after their marriage.

With this clarification, MzGee seeks to put an end to any misunderstandings regarding her child’s paternity while moving forward with her new chapter.

  • Abu Trica did not attend to me when I called him for help – Ajagurajah

Abu Trica did not attend to me when I called him for help – Ajagurajah

Spiritual leader and founder of the Ajagurajah Movement, Bishop Kwabena Boakye Asiamah, has rubbished claims that he receives funding from embattled 31-year-old Ghanaian social media influencer from Swedru, Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica.

In a TikTok live session, Ajagurajah explained that Abu Trica chose clearing his Cybertruck at the time over supporting him when he needed it the most.

“I called Abu Trica for help, and he told me his Cybertruck had just landed, so he needed to clear it. He said, ‘He is very sorry, he cannot help me.’ He told me he couldn’t even give me GH¢1 because he had to clear his Cybertruck.”

“He never gave me anything, yet most people believe that Abu Trica takes care of me. Many people have donated to support me but Abu has never given me anything. So, to anyone who thinks Abu Trica funds the Ajagurajah Movement, I want to say I have never met him personally, and he has never given me anything. If I am lying, may God take my life,” Ajagurajah said.

31-year-old Ghanaian from Swedru, Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has been arrested after he allegedly tricked elderly victims in the United States (U.S) into sending him money by pretending to be in a romantic relationship with them. He was arrested in Ghana on Thursday, December 12.

Kumi has been charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, money laundering conspiracy, and a forfeiture specification. He risks being jailed for 20 years.

According to the indictment, Kumi had been working with a criminal group since 2023, using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to create fake profiles and lure victims into online romantic relationships.

The indictment further added that Abu Trica and his team contacted the elderly individuals through social media and dating platforms, where they requested money or valuables to sort out urgent medical bills, travel expenses, or investment opportunities. The criminal group’s co-conspirators in Ghana then received funds and valuables defrauded from the elderly victims.

The Attorney General’s Office, Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Ghana Police Service, Ghana Cyber Security Authority, Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), and the National Intelligence Bureau, among others, aided the U.S. in tracing Abu Trica. Meanwhile, these agencies are working to arrest co-conspirators and recover the defrauded funds.

In October, four Ghanaian nationals—Isaac Oduro Boateng aka “Kofi Boat,” Inusah Ahmed aka “Pascal,” Derrick Van Yeboah aka “Van,” and Patrick Kwame Asare aka “Borgar”—were charged for their roles in an international criminal organization that stole more than $100 million from victims via romance scams and business email compromises.

United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Jay Clayton, and Assistant Director in Charge of the New York Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Christopher G. Raia, announced the unsealing of an indictment charging them.

Boateng, 36; Ahmed, 40; Van Yeboah, 40; and Asare, 39, are charged with one count of wire fraud conspiracy, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison; one count of wire fraud, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison; one count of money laundering conspiracy, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison; one count of conspiracy to receive stolen money, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison; and one count of receipt of stolen money, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

The charges contained in the indictment are merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Boateng, Ahmed, and Van Yeboah were extradited and arrived in the U.S. on August 7 and appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Lehrburger. Asare, on the other hand, remains at large. The case has been assigned to U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian.

“As alleged, Isaac Oduro Boateng, Inusah Ahmed, Derrick Van Yeboah, and Patrick Kwame Asare led and participated in an international fraud ring that engaged in a massive conspiracy to defraud vulnerable people and steal from businesses,” said U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton.

“Offshore scammers should know that we, the FBI, and our law enforcement partners will work around the world to combat online fraud and bring perpetrators to justice.”

“The defendants have been brought to the United States to be held accountable for their alleged roles in scamming companies and vulnerable Americans out of over $100 million,” said FBI Assistant Director in Charge Christopher G. Raia.

“Deceiving businesses using email compromise campaigns and tricking innocent elderly victims through fraudulent companionship in order to exploit their trust and finances is not merely appalling but illegal. The FBI will continue to ensure anyone who preys on companies and vulnerable Americans online is made to face the criminal justice system.”

The indictment revealed that Boateng, Ahmed, Van Yeboah, and Asare were high-ranking members of a criminal organization based in Ghana that committed romance scams and business email compromises against individuals and businesses located across the U.S.

Many of the conspiracy’s victims were vulnerable older men and women who were tricked into believing that they were in online romantic relationships with people who were, in fact, fake identities assumed by members of the conspiracy.

Once members of the conspiracy had gained the trust of their victims, they deceived those victims into sending their money to the enterprise or into helping them launder funds from other victims.

The conspirators also committed business email compromises to trick and deceive businesses into wiring funds to the enterprise. In total, the conspiracy stole and laundered more than $100 million from dozens of victims.

After stealing the money, the fraud proceeds were then laundered to West Africa, where they were largely funneled to individuals called “chairmen,” who directed the activities of other members of the conspiracy. Boateng and Ahmed were considered chairmen of the organization.

The maximum potential sentences in this case are prescribed by Congress and provided here for informational purposes only, as any sentencing of the defendants will be determined by a judge.

Mr. Clayton praised the outstanding work of the FBI. He also thanked Ghana and the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs for their assistance.

The Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs worked with the International Cooperation Unit of the Office of the Attorney-General of Ghana to secure the extraditions to the United States. Ghana’s Economic and Organized Crime Office, the Ghana Police Service – INTERPOL, Ghana’s Cyber Security Authority, and Ghana’s National Intelligence Bureau all provided significant assistance to ensure the success of these extraditions.

The case is being prosecuted by the Office’s Complex Frauds and Cybercrime Unit. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kevin Mead and Mitzi Steiner are in charge of the prosecution.

There has been a surge in reports of Ghanaian nationals being involved in illegal activities abroad, especially romance scams.

  • Reactions pour in from Kofi Nti, Ohemaa Woyeje, others over Daddy Lumba’s burial dispute

Reactions pour in from Kofi Nti, Ohemaa Woyeje, others over Daddy Lumba’s burial dispute

Kofi Nti, Ohemaa Woyeje, Efia Schwarzenegger and other public figures have reacted to the controversies surrounding the burial of legendary highlife musician Daddy Lumba in Kumasi on December 13, 2025.

Their responses range from calls for peace to support for the late artist’s legal family.

    Kofi Nti

Highlife musician Kofi Nti said he intentionally avoided attending the funeral because of safety concerns and his family’s advice.

He added that, as a peace-loving person, he had hoped the Abusuapanin would bring the two wives together to promote harmony.

“I’m a very peaceful person. I thought Abusuapanin will bring both wives together for them to be in peace but I didn’t see that,” he said.

Kofi Nti revealed that his mother advised him to stay out of the funeral disputes after learning about the surrounding controversies.

“My mother called me and said she had heard a lot about the funeral so I shouldn’t involve myself,” he explained.

He added that expectations were high for a massive turnout, but the tension discouraged him from attending.

“We were expecting the whole stadium to be full. I didn’t want to go because the controversies that went.

“I wouldn’t want something to happen there or someone hitting me with something just because I showed up and since my mother said I shouldn’t involve myself, I had to respect that,” Kofi Nti added.

    Ohemaa Woyeje

Media personality Ohemaa Woyeje also weighed in, making a strong statement about the late musician’s relationships.

According to her, Odo Broni was not Daddy Lumba’s wife but his girlfriend, despite public perceptions.

“Odo Broni is not Daddy Lumba’s wife; she’s his girlfriend. These days, all men call their girlfriends their women and wives but it doesn’t mean he’s married to her,” she said.

She said many people were aware of the truth but chose to remain silent.

Ohemaa Woyeje, however, publicly declared her support for Akosua Serwaa, believed to be Daddy Lumba’s legal wife.

“We know everything but we’re just quiet. To Akosua Serwaa, God is with you. Your efforts will not be in vain. Your husband said he didn’t want anyone to hurt you after his death but they have hurt you,” she stated.

She added that despite insults and criticism, Akosua Serwaa had strong backing.

“They should insult us because we are behind you and your truth. We will continue to support you and we will support the truth,” she added.

    Afia Schwarzenegger

Outspoken media personality Afia Schwarzenegger firmly backed Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu, asserting that Daddy Lumba would still be in the mortuary if not for his decisive actions.

“If not for Abusuapanin, Lumba wouldn’t have been buried by now. If we didn’t put our feet down, Daddy Lumba would have remained in the mortuary,” she said.

She praised the Abusuapanin’s leadership, describing him as wise and decisive.

“I’m so proud of Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu. He’s a wise man,” she shared.

Afia Schwarzenegger challenged the idea of delaying the funeral to March 14, stating that Odo Broni and her family would not have accepted such a postponement.

“If the funeral wasn’t done and was postponed to March 14, would Odo Broni and her family agree? Team legal wife were saying they won’t agree.

“I kept asking myself what would make them think that Odo Broni and her family would agree to hold the funeral on March 14,” she noted. She further criticised the ongoing legal battles, questioning the financial cost of the disputes.

“With all the controversies, is it not the same money they’re using to pay the lawyers?” she added.

Evangelist Papa Shee has revealed that Akosua Serwaa, wife of the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba, together with other family members, missed the late musician’s funeral due to a lack of official notice.

The family went ahead with the funeral on December 13, 2025, after the Accra High Court ruled that the burial should proceed as originally scheduled.

The court’s decision followed an earlier injunction that had halted the funeral, restrained the family head, Kofi Owusu, from organising the burial, and barred Transitions Funeral Home from releasing the body. Shortly after issuing that order, the court recalled all legal representatives and issued a fresh directive.

In its ruling, the court directed the applicants to deposit GH¢2 million by 2 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025, as security to cover potential costs arising from the postponement of the funeral. The judge explained that while the applicants’ concerns were noted, the injunction carried significant financial implications and could impose an unfair burden on the respondents. When the applicants, made up of members of Daddy Lumba’s maternal family, failed to meet the condition, the court ruled that the funeral should proceed on December 13.

Despite the court’s position, conflicting statements emerged from sections of the family and associates of the late musician ahead of the burial. Evangelist Papa Shee had earlier claimed the funeral would not take place in December, citing delays in travel arrangements for some family members abroad, examinations involving the musician’s children, expired passports, and pending autopsy results. He also indicated that the family intended to meet President John Dramani Mahama over a proposed state burial and suggested a new burial date of March 14, 2026.

These claims were rejected by the Abusuapanyin, Kofi Owusu, who insisted that December 13 remained the official burial date and warned that he would take legal action against anyone suggesting otherwise. He maintained that no individual had the authority to change the date once it had been fixed.

The late musician’s elder sister, Ernestina Fosu, also publicly opposed earlier burial arrangements, stating that the family could not proceed with the funeral until the exact cause of Daddy Lumba’s death was known. She stressed that no court ruling or family decision would compel her to support the burial without clarity on the circumstances surrounding his death, though she later indicated her readiness to organise the funeral once the cause was established.

Amid the family disagreements, Prophet Kumchacha issued warnings of spiritual consequences if the burial was not conducted peacefully, claiming to have received revelations about potential tragedy should the funeral be mishandled. His comments added to the public debate surrounding the burial.

Daddy Lumba’s burial date had earlier been shifted from December 6 to December 13, 2025, to allow additional time for matters relating to the cause of death to be addressed. Following the court’s final ruling and the failure of the applicants to meet the imposed conditions, the funeral eventually took place on December 13, bringing an end to weeks of legal disputes and public controversy over the final rites of the celebrated musician.

  • ‘Peller’ in police custody over attempt to take his life

‘Peller’ in police custody over attempt to take his life

Twenty-year-old social media influencer, Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, has been arrested for allegedly attempting to take his life and reckless driving that resulted in a serious road crash in Lagos.

The incident has reportedly led to a severe motor accident, during which the suspect’s life and those of other road users were endangered.

  • Bid to remove Justice Yoni Kulendi thrown out

Bid to remove Justice Yoni Kulendi thrown out

A petition seeking the removal of Justice Yonny Kulendi from office as a Justice of the Supreme Court has been quashed by President John Dramani Mahama, based on the advice of the Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie.

The decision was communicated in a letter dated December 4, 2025, signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr Callistus Mahama, and sent to the petitioner, Daniel Marfo Ofori-Atta.

“I have the instructions of His Excellency the President to respond to your petition dated 30 September 2025 on the above matter,” the letter stated.

Dr Mahama stated that, under Article 146(3) of the 1992 Constitution, the President forwarded the petition to the Chief Justice on October 20, 2025, to assess whether it established a prima facie case.

“By a letter dated 2 December 2025, the Chief Justice informed His Excellency the President that no prima facie case had been established by the petition to warrant any further investigation,” the letter said.

Quoting the Chief Justice’s determination, the letter noted: “In the circumstances, the Petitioner’s own evidential material undermines and collapses the factual foundation of the allegations.

“When compared against the sworn testimony of Mr Jakpa, the petition’s claim that Justice Kulendi abused his office to secure bail for his cousin and that he sought to inappropriately influence the outcome of the case is exposed as a clear distortion of the record and fails to disclose any evidentiary basis upon which a prima facie finding can be properly grounded.

“In conclusion, it is my determination that this petition fails to meet the evidential threshold required to establish a prima facie case under Article 146(3) of the Constitution. Accordingly, I find that no prima facie case has been established against Justice Yonny Kulendi by the Petitioner.”

Dr Mahama added that, “In view of the Chief Justice’s determination that the constitutional threshold under Article 146(3) has not been met, no further steps are required in respect of your petition. The matter is therefore concluded.”

The Minister for Goverment Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, also confirmed this development in a Facebook post.

    Background

Daniel Marfo Ofori-Atta submitted a petition to President Mahama on October 2, 2025, seeking the removal of Justice Kulendi, after previously filing a petition with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.

The petitions called for investigations into Justice Kulendi and his cousin, Richard Jakpa, over claims of attempts to influence the administration of justice.

The claims arose from the widely followed case, Republic v Cassiel Ato Forson & two others, in which Jakpa, who serves as Director of Operations at the National Security Secretariat, was listed as the third accused person.

Ofori-Atta alleged that Justice Kulendi sought to interfere with justice in violation of the code of conduct required of a Supreme Court judge, contending that the actions amounted to stated misbehaviour and made him unsuitable to remain in office.

Justice Emmanuel Yonny Kulendi was sworn in as a Justice of the Supreme Court on May 26, 2020, alongside Professor Henrietta J. A. N. Mensa-Bonsu, by then President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Their nominations followed approval by Parliament’s Appointments Committee after vetting conducted on May 11 and 12, 2020, and final parliamentary endorsement on May 20, 2020.

A couple of months ago, President John Dramani Mahama relieved embattled Chief Justice Gertrude Tokornoo of her duties with immediate effect.

A press statement issued by the presidency and signed by the Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, indicated that her dismissal is in accordance with Article 146(9) of the 1992 Constitution.

President Mahama, on Tuesday, April 22, suspended the Chief Justice after a prima facie case was established, following separate petitions calling for her removal.

However, the new development comes shortly after President John Dramani Mahama officially received recommendations from the committee probing petitions seeking the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, today, Monday, September 1.

The presidency justified its decision to dismiss the Chief Justice, citing findings from the Article 146 Committee of Inquiry.

According to the statement, the Committee found that the grounds of stated misbehavior under Article 146(1) had been established and recommended her removal from office.

“President John Dramani Mahama has, in accordance with Article 146(9) of the 1992 Constitution, removed the Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkonoo, from office with immediate effect.

“This follows receipt of the report of the Committee constituted under Article 146(6) to inquire into a petition submitted by a Ghanaian citizen, Mr Daniel Ofori. After considering the petition and the evidence, the Committee found that the grounds of stated misbehaviour under Article 146(1) had been established and recommended her removal from office.

“Under Article 146(9), the President is required to act in accordance with the committee’s recommendation,” parts of the statement read.

The committee chaired by Supreme Court Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang and includes Justice Samuel Kwame Adibu Asiedu, former Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo, Major Flora Bazwaanura Dalugo of the Ghana Armed Forces, and Professor James Sefah Dzisah of the University of Ghana.

In July, an application for review regarding an ‘abuse of court processes’ by the embattled Chief Justice, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, was dismissed by the Human Rights Division of the Accra High Court.

The court presided over by Justice Amoako on Thursday, July 31, revealed that several claims, such as illegal composition of the committee and wrongful conduct of adversarial proceedings, were already before the Supreme Court.

Justice Amoako argued that relitigating these issues would result in duplication of litigation and abuse of court processes. As such, such claims were dismissed.

The judge also dismissed reliefs such as an order of certiorari to quash the committee’s proceedings and nullify its sittings on the basis that the Chief Justice did not receive a fair hearing, on jurisdictional grounds.

The judicial review application filed on June 9 this year sought nine reliefs, which included a series of declarations that the Article 146 committee set up to probe her removal from office had acted unlawfully.

She wanted the court to prevent the committee from proceeding with its work without providing her with authenticated copies of the petitions seeking her removal and the subsequent responses.

The Chief Justice notes that the president’s purported prima facie determination contained no reasons or justification and was entirely devoid of the elements of judicial or quasi-judicial reasoning expected under the Constitution.

As the proceedings of the Article 146 committee are to be held in-camera in accordance with Article 146(8) of the Constitution, the court noted that it could not inquire into matters raised by the suspended Chief Justice.

  • Softcare sanitary pads production line commissioned by Vice President

Softcare sanitary pads production line commissioned by Vice President

Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has commissioned Softcare’s new sanitary pads production line, as the company expands its reach across West Africa and parts of Asia.

At the commissioning ceremony on Monday, 15th December 2025, she commended Softcare for evolving from a necessity-driven idea into a nationally recognized manufacturer, creating thousands of jobs and producing high-quality sanitary pads that proudly carry the “Made in Ghana” label.

She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to deepening its partnership with the Company, describing the firm as a strategic domestic player within Ghana’s industrial reset agenda.

“The government of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama remains committed to the systematic transformation of Ghana’s economy.”

“The Ghana Framework for Industrialisation and Transformation is a key mechanism in this effort, and today’s commissioning demonstrates that the strategy is yielding tangible results. The partnership with Softcare shows what is possible when a responsive private sector aligns with a stable and supportive policy environment,” she stated.

The Vice President praised the company’s sustained growth over the past 15 years, noting that it exemplifies how a capable private sector can thrive within a predictable and business-friendly policy environment.

With the additional production lines, Softcare is positioned to meet local demand while increasing exports. The Vice President noted that sanitary pads have been classified as a high-potential product under the Accelerated Export Development Programme to broaden Ghana’s export base.

She stressed the need for Africa to move beyond the export of raw materials, arguing that value addition and processing are essential to expanding the continent’s share of global trade. “This is how we create sustainable employment, build local ownership, and anchor development on capital and technology that support long-term transformation,” she noted.

The Vice President commended Softcare’s social investments in education and healthcare and said the company stands to benefit from opportunities under the Free Sanitary Pads Programme.

Chairman of Softcare, Mr Y. C. Shen, commended the government’s policy approach, describing it as a key driver of Ghana’s economic progress.

He noted that Softcare’s activities are closely aligned with the 24-Hour Economy Initiative, adding that the new production line will improve operational efficiency and create more jobs locally.

Mr Shen said Softcare, as Africa’s leading manufacturer of sanitary pads and baby diapers, was pleased to support the Free Sanitary Pads Programme, which advances education, gender equity and public health outcomes.

He called on regulators and industry players to sustain a fair and transparent business environment, stressing that such conditions are essential for attracting investment and promoting inclusive economic growth.

Softcare’s journey began in 2009 with the trading of hygiene products. Over the years, it has grown into a leading multinational hygiene products company, engaged in the development, manufacturing and sale of baby and feminine hygiene products, including diapers, sanitary pads and wet wipes, with a focus on fast-growing emerging markets in Africa and Latin America.

In Ghana, Softcare entered the market in 2009 with the launch of its baby diapers, marking its first foray into Africa. Since then, Softcare Ghana has maintained a leading position in both the baby diaper and sanitary pads segments, contributing to Ghana’s industrialisation drive, strengthening national standards and positioning the country as a manufacturing hub in West Africa.

The company has also sustained a strong commitment to corporate social responsibility. In 2025, it rolled out several initiatives, including a Mother’s Day donation event at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and a nationwide road safety education campaign.

Following the launch of Ghana’s Free Sanitary Pads Programme in April 2025, Softcare joined the initiative as a major local supplier, supporting efforts to provide free sanitary pads to more than two million schoolgirls in public basic and secondary schools.

Through this intervention, the company aims to address period poverty, reduce school absenteeism and promote menstrual hygiene and dignity nationwide.

These efforts have earned Softcare significant national recognition. In 2023, the company secured membership of the National Technical Committee on Medical Devices under the Ghana Standards Authority.

In 2024, it was ranked first in the manufacturing sector at the 21st edition of the Ghana Club 100 Awards by the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre. In 2025, Softcare received multiple honours at the Ghana–West Africa Business Excellence Awards, including Consumer Products Company of the Year, Overall Best Industrial Company of the Year, and Best Corporate Social Responsibility Company of the Year at the Association of Ghana Industries and Quality Awards.

Softcare says it remains committed to working closely with government to ensure its products meet the highest standards of safety, quality and sustainability, while maintaining deep engagement with local communities through impactful and responsible corporate citizenship.

  • Ghana to take delivery of 300 ISUZU buses to strengthen Metro Mass Transit services

Ghana to take delivery of 300 ISUZU buses to strengthen Metro Mass Transit services

Ghana is set to take delivery of 300 additional ISUZU buses to strengthen Metro Mass Transit services.

This was announced Deputy Minister of Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, through a post on social media,

“On behalf of the Minister for Transport, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, under whose leadership I serve, I had the privilege of joining the management of Metro Mass Transit in Egypt for the final inspection of three hundred (300) ISUZU buses slated for delivery to Ghana,” Affo-Toffey stated.

She added that, “This important undertaking reflects the Minister’s clear vision and policy direction to strengthen Ghana’s public transport system through strategic investment in modern, reliable, and efficient mass transit.”

The new buses will greatly increase the size of the fleet, widen service routes, cut down waiting periods, and make travel safer and more comfortable for passengers.

She noted that the move will reduce the daily stress faced by workers, students, and traders, help ease traffic congestion, bring down transport expenses, and support a more organised and environmentally friendly transport system.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police received a major boost in operational capacity, safety, and deterrence with the government’s delivery of 40 new armoured vehicles.

In a handing-over ceremony held at the Ghana Police Headquarters in Accra on Thursday, December 4, President Mahama, in his speech, commended the police for their hard work and efforts in bringing criminals to book, citing their resolve in tackling several cases of murder, armed robberies and other crimes in the country.

He said, “And you have dealt with them, people who robbed banks and attacked people’s residences.

You have chalked up many victories in bringing them to justice. Let me commend the CID, too.

In the past, there were many unsolved murders. I’m happy to note that recently, many of the murders that occurred have been resolved. With good police intelligence, you’ve been able to bring the suspects to book.”

He noted that the 40 armoured vehicles given to the Service are only the first of many his government will hand over to the law enforcement agency, adding that two tow trucks and patrol pickups will also be supplied to police districts.

“These 40 vehicles are just the first batch of what you will be receiving. By the end of this month, you will receive two tow trucks so that anytime any of these vehicles becomes immobilised anywhere, you can pick it up and bring it back to base. You will also get 10 covert operational vehicles, which I have been cautioned not to talk about. It is only you who will know you have them. In addition, we want to give every police district a normal pickup for patrol duties”, the President said.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohunu, in an acceptance speech, assured the president that with vehicles, his outfit will tear down any criminal syndicate and launch a “robust and targeted operation throughout the country”.

“Your Excellency, these vehicles are going to completely change the face and dynamics of police operations. With these vehicles, we are going to launch very bold, robust, and targeted operations throughout the country. We will dismantle any existing criminal networks, most of whom have gone into hiding due to our intensified activities against them”, he noted.

He also sent a warning to individuals threatening national security, declaring that the Police Service will relentlessly pursue and apprehend anyone involved in criminal activities.

“Let me use this opportunity to send a strong word of caution to persons who have decided to threaten the security of this country: we are coming for you. You can run all you want and hide wherever you wish, but we will surely get you,” taunting the police service’s achievements so far under his leadership.

“We have made several breakthroughs. In addition to numerous robbery attempts that have been foiled through sustained intelligence operations, we have successfully arrested suspects who operated under the illusion that they could get away with crime. These include the suspect behind the rural bank robberies, the robbery of the Radiance Filling Station, the robbery at Enfasatia, attacks on mobile vendors, the Wire and Bullet serial murders, vehicle theft syndicates, and perpetrators behind fake online food-delivery platforms”.

IGP, Christian Tetteh Yohunu, also assured that the vehicles would be strategically deployed and properly maintained to achieve their intended objectives, commending the government for its intervention.

“We wish to sincerely express our profound gratitude to the government for thinking about us and prioritising our welfare. Our assurance to you is that the vehicles will be well-maintained and strategically deployed to achieve the intended objectives,” he said.

The event also saw the presence of Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak and numerous senior police officers, highlighting the government’s commitment to supporting law enforcement agencies.

The Interior Minister, speaking at the commissioning, also mentioned that the enhanced security capacity of security services in ythe country should block all chances of criminal networks from operating and doing so effectively.

“Your time is up. The state is prepared. The police are prepared. The tools are ready. The intelligence is improving. And the public is increasingly vigilant.”

He said that security agencies will deal decisively with those involved in violent and organised crime. “Whether it is armed robbery, banditry, illegal mining, violence, trafficking, kidnapping, gang activities or terrorism, know that we will find you, we will stop you, and you will face the full force of the law” adding that Ghana, being described as a peaceful country, doesn’t mean it is defenceless.

“Ghana is a peaceful nation, but we are not defenceless.”

The Minister explained that the new armoured vehicles would be deployed based on crime data and operational needs. He said the Interior Ministry will work closely with the Police Administration to ensure the vehicles are used effectively.

“Some will support high crime zones, others will reinforce highway patrol, others will be integrated into rapid response teams and special operations. Deployment will be guided by intelligence, operational need and proper chain of command,” he said.

He also highlighted the shift towards a more technology-driven policing model, supported by a new real-time crime centre being developed under the Inspector-General of Police.

“We are moving towards a policing model that is predictive, data-driven and technology-enabled. In this new era, crime will be confronted not only with courage, but with smart intelligence and modern tools.”

  • Suspect arrested for abusing 6-year-old over bedwetting

Suspect arrested for abusing 6-year-old over bedwetting

The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has announced the arrest of suspect involved in the abuse of a six-year-old child at Asamankese over bed-wetting.

According to the Ministry, after strongly condemning the act, which went viral a few days ago, the Ghana Police Service was promptly notified to take action on the matter.

“The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) wishes to inform the general public that, following the circulation of the viral video showing the abuse of a child, the matter was promptly referred to the Ghana Police Service by the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection. The police have since arrested the suspect involved, and the investigation is currently ongoing,” a statement released by the ministry read.

The Ministry cautioned parents, guardians, and caregivers against the use of violent disciplinary methods and urged the adoption of non-violent approaches to child upbringing, as discipline must never result in physical harm to a child.

MoGCSP reiterated its commitment to the protection of children. At the same time, it assured that it will continue to collaborate with law enforcement agencies and stakeholders to prevent such incidents and to ensure that perpetrators of child abuse are held accountable.

“Protecting children is indeed a shared responsibility. Families, communities, traditional and religious leaders, and the public all have a role to play to ensure that children grow up in a safe, caring, and protective environment,” the statement added.

In October, the Central Regional Police Command arrested a forty-nine-year-old fisherman for defiling a 13-year-old girl in Apam, in the Central Region.

His arrest followed a video that went viral on social media capturing the man engaged in the unscrupulous act.

A statement shared by the police stated that, “On October 17, 2025, about 1300 hours, the Apam District Police Command received information that on October 16, 2025, a 49-year-old fisherman by the name Samuel Armah, a.k.a Kofi Nyan, had defiled a 13-year-old girl at Mumford, a suburb of Apam. That the suspect lured the survivor into a ghetto at Mumford and defiled her.Police on receipt of information proceeded to the area, and with the assistance of Mumford, task force arrested the suspect.”

The survivor has since been hospitalised at St. Luke Catholic Hospital for examination and treatment.

The statement further explained that after the matter was reported, the case docket was forwarded to the Central Regional office of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) for further investigation.

Upon interrogation at the Unit, the suspect admitted to committing the offence. He was then taken into custody by the police to assist with ongoing investigations.

The statement added that the accused person will be formally charged and brought before the court for prosecution on 23 October 2025.

The command has assured the general public that justice will be served in the matter. It has also appealed to residents of Mumford and its surrounding communities to support efforts to arrest the four accomplices identified as Agoogo, Edina, Kwesi Abbam, and Agya Ankoto, who are currently on the run.

The command has urged anyone with credible information about the whereabouts of these suspects to contact them on 18555 or 0299205854, or to report to the nearest police station.

In 2022, the Central Regional Police Command recorded more than 200 defilement cases within 18 months.

Of the total number, about 147 males were arrested with some absconding and are being pursued to face the law.

A police source told the Ghana News Agency that about 101 cases had been taken to court, and 25 suspects had been charged and convicted.

It blamed the disparities in reporting, arresting, and prosecution of cases on the lack of incriminating evidence, cooperation from victims and families, and legal complexities.

The source condemned the act and attributed the rise in defilement cases to poverty and lack of parental guidance and protection of children, which pushed the victims into the hands of pedophiles.

The source encouraged parents to strictly monitor their children in their usage of  mobile phones, including the sites they visited and their relationships.

Some children get paedophiles online asking them to snap half or full naked pictures of themselves and innocently, some of the children fall prey to such antics.

Parents must, however, devise stringent measures to protect children from smartphones, social media, and paedophiles as the police continued to put in all efforts to ensure that criminal activities were reduced across the region, the source said.

A report by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit said a lot of cases on sexual-based violence were reported to the Unit, but only about five percent was convicted.

That was because some families later received compensations from the perpetrators and decided to settle the matter at home without considering the physical and psychological effects on the victims.

The practice had derailed the fortunes of many girls in terms of reproductive health and socio-economic well-being, the source said.

  • EC expresses readiness for Kpandai parliamentary rerun on Dec 30

EC expresses readiness for Kpandai parliamentary rerun on Dec 30

The Electoral Commission has expressed readiness to organise the parliamentary rerun in the Kpandai Constituency on December 30, unless a court orders otherwise.

The EC’s Deputy Director of Research, Alfred Tetteh, said this in an interview on JoyNews’ Pulse on Monday. He explained that the Commission is continuing with its preparations because the law requires it to do so.

Mr Tetteh noted that the EC is aware of ongoing court actions, including an appeal and a request for interpretation at the Supreme Court after a decision by the Tamale High Court.

However, he said the Commission will continue with the rerun plans until the courts give clear instructions to stop or change them.

“As a law-abiding institution, we have fixed December 30 as the date for the election. We do not know what will come out of the appeal or the Supreme Court. Until the Appeal Court or the Supreme Court rules otherwise, we are proceeding with the December 30 date.

“In terms of preparation, we are ready for December 30 unless anything otherwise comes from the Supreme Court or the Appeal Court,” he stated.

Mr Tetteh said the rerun election will involve the same political parties that contested the December 2024 election — the NPP, NDC and APC.

He assured the public that all preparations are on track. This includes plans to train polling officials, which will start about five days before the election.

He also explained that printing the ballot papers will not take long since the candidates are the same. Political parties will be informed of the dates so they can be present to observe the printing process.

“These are ballots that we have printed before, and with the same candidates, it is quite easy. We can print 66,850 ballot papers, plus an additional two per cent, within a day or two,” he explained.

He added that the movement and distribution of ballots can be completed within two days, noting that the Commission remains well within its operational timelines.

Fifty percent (50%) of constituents have declared their support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Mathew Nyindam, ahead of the Kpandai rerun, according to a new poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics.

The poll shows that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Daniel Nsala Wakpal, secured 46% of the vote against the embattled Member of Parliament (MP) for Kpandai.

Regarding performance ratings, 32% of voters described Mathew Nyindam’s performance as very good or good, while 3% rated him as excellent.

Additionally, 36% rated his performance as average, and 29% considered it poor or very poor. The poll further projected that independent candidate Donkor Eric Nipani would receive 1% of the vote, while 3% of respondents remain undecided, down from an initial 28%.

Kpandai constituency is gearing up for a rerun of the 2024 parliamentary election in the coming days. According to the Electoral Commission (EC), the exercise will take place on Tuesday, December 30.

Only the three (3) candidates who participated in the 2024 Parliamentary Election in the constituency will contest, according to a press release dated December 10 by the Deputy Director at the Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Department of the EC.

“The Electoral Commission wishes to inform the General Public that following the Tamale High Court’s ruling on Monday, 24th November, 2025, ordering a rerun of the ‘Kandai Constituency Parliamentary Election within thirty (30) days’ and upon receipt of a letter from the Clerk to Parliament on Tuesday, 9th December, 2025, formally notifying the Commission of the occurrence of a vacancy in the Membership of Parliament, the seat of the Constituency in Parliament has become vacant.

“The Electoral Commission will hold a rerun of the Parliamentary Election in the Kpandai Constituency on Tuesday, 30th December, 2025.

“The rerun of the Kandai Constituency Parliamentary Election will be conducted for only the three (3) candidates who contested the 2024 Parliamentary Election in the said Constituency,” part of the statement read.

Meanwhile, the Minority in Parliament has opposed the court ruling declaring the vacancy of the Kpandai constituency parliamentary seat in the Northern Region null.

The Tamale High Court declared the Kpandai parliamentary election conducted in 2024 invalid on Monday, November 24. As a result, His Lordship Emmanuel Brew Plange directed the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct a new poll in the constituency within 30 days.

But addressing the media on Tuesday, December 9, Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh noted, “Mr Speaker, there is a letter that was sent into the House to declare the Kpandai seat vacant. That letter is out of place, unfortunate, and goes against the rule of law. We strongly submit that the letter must be withdrawn by Parliament. We in the Minority will not agree to the writing of this letter”.

However, the candidate at the centre of the Kpandai election challenge, Matthew Nyindam, has disclosed that the 2024 parliamentary election in the area was conducted in a free and fair manner.

Despite the High Court directing a re-run of the election, Matthew Nyindam insisted that he and his team did not engage in any wrongdoing and are prepared to face the re-run.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, December 9, he noted, “I am so fine because I am not troubled. We’ve not cheated in this particular election. What I’ve realised is that there is a government that is so strong, and whatever they want to do, they will want to do it. They don’t care whether you are right or you are wrong.”

Earlier this year, the former Member of Parliament (MP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Kpandai, Daniel Nsala Wakpal, submitted a petition to the Tamale High Court challenging the results of the 2024 parliamentary election in the constituency.According to the petitioner, the Kpandai parliamentary election was marred by irregularities in the voting and collation processes. He argued that Pink Sheets from many polling stations were inaccurate or inconsistent.

He stated: “The parliamentary election held in the Kpandai constituency on 7th December, 2024 was not conducted in compliance with Regulation 39 of the Public Elections Regulations, 2020 (C.I. 127) and the principles laid down by Regulation 39, and that the said non-compliance affected the results of the elections.

“The declaration and publication of the parliamentary election results held in the Kpandai constituency on 7th December, 2024 were not made in compliance with Regulation 43 of the Public Elections Regulations, 2020 (C.I. 127) and the principles laid down by Regulation 43, and that the said non-compliance affected the entire results of the parliamentary elections in the Kpandai constituency.”

But Matthew Nyindam has argued that, “The Parliamentary Election Petition filed by the 1st Interested Party on 25th January, 2025, in respect of the Parliamentary Election held at the Kpandai Constituency on 7th December, 2024, was invalid and could not have properly invoked the jurisdiction of the High Court, Commercial Division, Tamale.”

This will be the second time the country has had a re-run of elections after the 2024 general polls. Ablekuma North remained the only constituency in Ghana without a sitting MP due to unresolved disagreements over the outcome of the parliamentary vote.

The Electoral Commission on Friday, July 11, held a re-run election in 19 polling stations in Ablekuma North to provide constituents with a representative. Ewurabena Aubynn polled 34,090 votes to beat the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Akua Afriyie, who secured 33,881 votes.

  • Kennedy Agyapong will “kill” my political career if he becomes president – Adwoa Safo

Kennedy Agyapong will “kill” my political career if he becomes president – Adwoa Safo

Former Dome–Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, says she fears for her safety and future if Kennedy Agyapong becomes President of Ghana.

She claimed that the last NPP government was run in a way that favoured family members and close friends, a situation she believes largely led to the party’s poor showing in the 2024 general elections.

Adwoa Safo made the comments while campaigning for Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who is contesting to become the NPP’s flagbearer. She argued that choosing Kennedy Agyapong as the party’s leader would be a wrong decision for the NPP.

She referenced her personal relationship with the former Assin Central MP, saying:

“I have two children with Kennedy Agyapong, but I can assure you that if he becomes president and I send my Curriculum Vitae to his office, there is no way he will employ me because he wouldn’t be running a family and friends government.

“I am not saying he will become president, but let us assume he does. If I submit my CV to his office, considering the work I have done as a Minister and as a Deputy Majority Leader, and he looks at me and says, ‘You are the woman I have two children with, so I am appointing you as a minister,’ there will be chaos in Ghana if he goes down that path.”

Adwoa Safo added that she believes her future would be in danger if Kennedy Agyapong became president, saying the party needs to pick someone who can bring members together and win back the trust of the public.

“The Kennedy Agyapong I know would never appoint me, and that is why my political career and my future would be at stake if he becomes president,” she stated.

On the other hand, former Energy Minister and running mate of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 presidential candidate, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has decided to throw his weight behind Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the party’s presidential primaries in 2026.

In an interview on Asempa FM on August 26, the former minister noted that he remains grateful to the former Vice President who decided to make him his running mate despite the many individuals who advised him to do otherwise.

According to Dr Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as Napo, Dr Bawumia was engaged countless times by some bigwigs in the party to pick someone else to be his running mate.

“I am not ungrateful. Look at this big party and upon all the people who were praying for the running mate slot, he ignored all of them and made me his running mate.”

“I know it was a difficult situation, but a lot of people don’t know. Some bigwigs in the party went to Dr Bawumia to tell him not to make me the running mate but he ignored them. There are some names that if I mentioned, you would be shocked. Some even took him to offices to advise him against me but still he chose me,” he remarked.

He thus said; “So, I cannot be ungrateful to him… For those who stood in the flagbearership contest, everyone knows Kennedy Agyapong is my friend, but I am still for Bawumia.”

On Tuesday, July 29, the NPP opened nominations for its 2028 flagbearer position. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s 2024 flagbearer and former Vice President, Kennedy Agyapong, Kwabena Agyepong, and Dr. Osei Adutwum have all picked up nomination forms.

Former General Secretary of the NPP, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, officially filed his nomination forms on Tuesday, August 26. Party executives are also expected to receive the nomination forms from former Assin Central MP and presidential hopeful Kennedy Ohene Agyapong today, Wednesday, August 27, 2025, ahead of the party’s 2026 presidential primaries.

In the meantime, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has received strong backing from 268 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), who paid him a visit in June to pledge their support.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has made room for new additions to its already approximately 220,000 delegates who are eligible to vote in its presidential primaries slated for Saturday, January 31, next year.

In a statement dated August 26, signed and shared by the Secretary of the Presidential Elections Committee, Williams Yamoah, the party announced that registration has been opened for an additional 60,000 new delegates, which include nineteen new categories of people. This directive follows reforms adopted at the party’s National Annual Delegates Conference held in Accra on Saturday, July 19.

The statement explained: “In accordance with Article 13(1)(11) of the Constitution of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and pursuant to the motion on transitional provisions adopted at the National Annual Delegates Conference held in Accra on Saturday, July 19, 2025, the following new categories of Party officials and dignitaries have been included in the upcoming Presidential Primary voter register.”

The updated voter register, also known as the party album, will now include several new categories of officials and dignitaries. These are: all former regional and constituency executives, members of the National Council of Elders, 30 members of the National Council of Patrons, all past national officers, former party-card-bearing MPs and parliamentary candidates, as well as former party-card-bearing ministers and deputy ministers.

Other groups added to the list are external branch executives, former external branch executives, and key members of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON), including presidents of recognised institutions, the National TESCON Coordinator, regional coordinators, and one TESCON patron from each institution.

Additionally, 10 members from each Regional Council of Elders, 10 patrons from each region, and five members and patrons from each constituency have also been included.

The statement directed that “all officers that fall under the categories above are requested to register their names with their respective organisational structures, including the National Secretariat, Regions, Constituencies and External Branches, as applicable, with immediate effect.”

To make the registration process easier, the statement clarified that a digital link would be circulated to External Branch Executives for online registration. All other qualified members were advised to liaise with their respective regions and constituencies to register.

However, the forms are to be accessed via the party’s official website. “The registration form may be downloaded from the Party’s official website. For ease of reference, a sample copy is hereby attached,” excerpts of the statement read. The statement further warned that the registration was strictly for the aforementioned categories of people, with a deadline set for Friday, September 19.

“The deadline for registration is Friday, September 19, 2025. Please be advised that this registration exercise is exclusively open to officers and members who meet the aforementioned criteria. The Presidential Elections Committee shall undertake a comprehensive verification and validation of the Party’s album to ensure that only an authentic and credible register is used for the conduct of the presidential election,” the party cautioned, while expressing confidence in members’ cooperation.

“We count on your usual cooperation and adherence to this directive in furtherance of the Party’s commitment to fairness, inclusiveness, and transparency.”

The NPP is on a journey of reset, reinforcement, and healing following its historic defeat in the 2024 elections. Dr. Bawumia lost the 2024 presidential election, with John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) securing 6,328,397 valid votes, representing 56.55%, against Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61%.

Since the beginning of this year, the party has undertaken several reforms to position itself strongly against its main opponent, the NDC, and to recapture power.

Among these reforms is the abolition of the electoral college in favour of a broader base of delegates. The party has also added 19 new delegate categories and granted amnesty to suspended members.

The NPP has announced that suspended members have been reinstated, and all charges against those facing the disciplinary committee have been dropped.

This decision was taken by the National Council during an emergency meeting held on July 25. In a statement dated August 16 and signed by the Acting National Chairman of the Party, Mr. Danquah Smith Buttey, members were informed that as part of measures to ensure unity and cooperation, all banned members had been given the right to return.

“This measure reflects the Party’s unwavering commitment to fostering internal cohesion, strengthening solidarity, and preparing collectively for the political tasks ahead.

“I write to inform you that the National Council, at its Emergency Meeting held on Friday, July 25, 2025, resolved, in the interest of unity and reconciliation, to grant a General Amnesty to all Party members who have been suspended or whose disciplinary cases are currently pending before the appropriate disciplinary bodies,” parts of the statement read.

The party further urged all relevant bodies, including Regional and Constituency Executive Committees, to reinstate suspended members in accordance with laid-down rules and guiding principles.

“We hereby serve notice that this directive lifts all such suspensions and nullifies any ongoing proceedings against affected members,” the statement added.

However, the party clarified that this recall does not apply to members who willfully forfeited their membership. In cases where such individuals wish to return, they are required to submit a formal reinstatement request to the party’s secretariat. Upon acceptance, a two-year ban will be imposed, preventing them from contesting in any internal elections.

Planning 3 weddings in 3 countries was exhausting – Temi Otedola, Mr Eazi

Temi Otedola, daughter of billionaire Femi Otedola, and her husband, singer Mr Eazi, have shared that choosing where to hold their destination weddings was not easy and came with a lot of arguments and emotional stress.

They explained that organising three weddings in three different countries within just three months was exhausting and much harder than people might think, even though it looked glamorous from the outside.

“Three weddings in three months is insane,” they admitted, describing the process as exhausting, with one ceremony flowing into another in quick succession.

Temi said they initially wanted a small, quiet court wedding in Nigeria, but they dropped the idea because it would have been hard to keep it private.

“If we went to the courthouse in Nigeria, it wouldn’t be as private as we wanted,” she explained.

The couple also considered holding a private civil wedding in their living room by inviting court officials to conduct the ceremony at home. While Temi liked the idea, Mr Eazi was not comfortable with it, and this led to disagreements that made them change their plans.

In the end, they chose Monaco for their civil wedding. Temi said the location meant a lot to her emotionally. She explained that although the United Kingdom was an option at one point, it did not feel special or personal enough.

Mr Eazi, on his part, said he was surprised by how many official processes and paperwork were involved in getting married.

“I thought getting married was just deciding and signing papers. I didn’t know there was a mountain of administration,” he said.

Despite all the difficulties, the couple say they are now getting ready for their last and biggest wedding ceremony.

Temi Otedola, has revealed why she accepted to marry singer and music executive, Mr Eazi.

She walked down the aisle in Iceland to say “I do” to singer and music executive, Mr Eazi, on August 8, 2025 in a simple but classy wedding ceremony.

In a conversation with BBC News Pidgin, Temi shared with joy that she has numerous reasons to have said Ido Mr Eazi.

“Too many…as she burst into laughter. First and foremost he is my best friend, that’s my person, And i think when you meet your persn you know, I cant imaging spending the rest of my life with anybody else. Heisthe person I am excited and can’t wait to spend everyday with and build our lives together and work through our ups and downs together, celeberate togtherband solve problems tiogwether. He is simply my person so we are just excited for what is to come,” the billionaire’s daughter shared.

Meanwhile, Temi Otedola, who is now Temi Ajibade, has commented on the upcoming release of her father’s book stating that the time has come for the world to glean from his father’s business experiences.

In an interview with the BBC, Temi said, “My dad has a wealth of wisdom and I’ve been very fortunate as his daughter that I’ve been able to, gleam and learn all of this information growing up with him,” she said

“But I believe he thought it was time that the public learn and understand his journey as an entrepreneur and as a businessman.”

Actress and fashion entrepreneur Temi Otedola has shared reason behind her decision to keep details of her life away from the public.

She and Mr Eazi maintained a low profile throughout their courtship, engagement, and marriage, only to surprise the public with the news of their union solemnization.

Temi shared in an interview with the BBC that, it’s not necessarily about privacy. “I think it’s more about owning your own narrative.”

According to her, there is power in living a quiet life as it gives one the power to control narratives.

“And there’s something about, you know, moving in silence that allows you to, to have certain control over things. It allows you to, yeah, to build the narrative you want,” Temi stated.

For her, it’s empowering to choose when and how to share personal details of life.

“And also you’re able to share when you feel you’re ready to share, when you want to share and share it in the way you want to share it.”

“So I think all of those things are kind of why I’ve always been someone to, to share, whether it’s a work project or personal news, I share it in my own time,” Temi Otedola shared..

Nigerian singer Oluwatosin Ajibade, popularly known as Mr Eazi, officially tied the knot with actress and daughter of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola Temi Otedola, in a private and intimate ceremony in Iceland after their near decade relationship.

News of their marriage ceremony emerged after Nigerian comedian Broda Shaggi shared clips on his Instagram Story which captured the musician having a good time with Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, in Iceland.

The wedding was held at the iconic Hallgrímskirkja Church in Reykjavík, with just a few friends and family in attendance.

Adorned with flowers and closed to the public, the venue reflected the couple’s enduring wish to keep their love story — and the details surrounding it — away from the public eye

The second daughte of the Nigerian millionaire was wore a sleek white satin gown with a square neckline, delicate straps, and a modest train. She paired it with minimal jewelry, just diamond studs and a simple bracelet with a soft and natural makeup, and her hair styled in a low, elegant chignon.

Her partner, Mr Eazi also rocked a crisp white shirt paired with a classic black tuxedo jacket and matching trousers. His look was clean, tailored, and understated, with no flashy accessories.

Mr Eazi first publicly confirmed his relationship with Temi Otedola in a 2017 Channel 4 News interview titled “Stories of My Life on African Instrumentals”.

In that conversation, he spoke about his music journey and casually acknowledged his relationship with Temi.

This was after rumours had began about their relationship following their chemistry in public and frequent appearances together.

Temi later confirmed the relationship herself, through her lifestyle blog and social media posts. Their bond became more visible when she featured Mr Eazi in her YouTube series.

Subsequently, Temi confirmed that they met at a DJ Cuppy event, which she had hosted for her sister.

It got official when the duo announced their engagement in April 2022, when the actress posted a 38-second video of the proposal on Instagram.

Social media buzzed after . Also in attendance were Temi’s sister, DJ and music producer Florence Otedola—popularly known as DJ Cuppy, their mother, Nana Otedola and Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote.

Following the emergence of their wedding photos and videos, the couple have received congratulatory messages from fans and celebrities across Africa, celebrating not only the love story between two stars but also the blending of music, film, and high-profile business worlds.

    Profile of Temi

Temiloluwa Elizabeth Otedola was born on March 20, 1996, into one of Nigeria’s most prominent families. She is the youngest daughter of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola and his wife Nana Otedola. • My salvation has filled the 40-year void of peace in my life – Tonto Dikeh

My salvation has filled the 40-year void of peace in my life – Tonto Dikeh

Nollywood star Tonto Dikeh has revealed that she is now experiencing true peace after her recent commitment to God  through Pastor Jerry Eze’s New Season Prophetic Prayers and Declarations (NSPPD).

  • Benin: Boni Yayi’s son arrested after unsuccessful coup attempt

Benin: Boni Yayi’s son arrested after unsuccessful coup attempt

Chabi Yayi, son of former Beninese president and opposition leader Thomas Boni Yayi, has been taken into custody in the aftermath of a failed coup in Benin.

According to a relative who spoke to AFP, Chabi Yayi was arrested in the early hours on Sunday at his residence with no reasons provided.

“At this time, we don’t know what he is accused of,” one relative told AFP.

“We don’t know if it is linked to the events of last Sunday,” said another close friend, a member of the Democrats party, the main opposition party, which Yahi heads.

Former Beninese president Thomas Boni Yayi condemned the failed coup in a video statement released two days after the attempt.

Since the December 7 putsch, authorities have carried out multiple arrests.

Those detained include alleged participants, notably former Defence Minister and opposition leader Candide Azannai.

Azannai has been held in police custody on charges of “conspiracy against the authority of the State and incitement to rebellion.”

If you want, I can combine this with the Chabi Yayi story into a concise TV broadcast script. Do you want me to do that?

Azannai was placed in police custody for “conspiracy against the authority of the State and incitement to rebellion”.

Stellio Gilles Robert Capo Chichi, widely known as Kemi Seba, 44, leads the NGO Pan-Africanist Emergency and is recognized for his outspoken opposition to France and African governments aligned with Paris.

Seba commands a following of 1.5 million on social media. A dual Franco-Beninese national, he was stripped of his French citizenship in 2024. He openly supports military juntas in the Sahel region that oppose Paris and maintain close ties with Russia.

He currently travels using a passport issued by Niger’s military government, a neighbouring country to Benin.

Meanwhile, several individuals involved in the failed coup, including its alleged leader Lieutenant Colonel Pascal Tigri, are still evading arrest.

The speed with which the coup was contained contrasts with other countries where such attempts have succeeded or plunged nations into prolonged political uncertainty. For example, in Niger, a successful military coup took place on July 26, 2023, when the presidential guard detained President Mohamed Bazoum and declared the formation of a new military junta.

General Abdourahamane Tchiani proclaimed himself leader, and Niger has since remained under junta rule. That takeover was widely condemned by regional and international actors but has nonetheless endured, leading neighbouring states to revise diplomatic and security strategies.

Similarly, Burkina Faso has experienced a series of coups in recent years. A military faction led by Captain Ibrahim Traoré assumed power in 2022, ousting his predecessor in yet another example of rapid leadership changes through force. Further reports in 2025 suggested ongoing internal pressure and additional attempted putsch plots against Traoré’s government, underscoring the volatility within that country’s political landscape.

Mali has also been ruled by military juntas following coups in 2020 and 2021, with transitional authorities extending their hold on power through constitutional changes that have delayed a return to civilian governance. In June 2025, Mali’s military government adopted a bill granting its leader, General Assimi Goïta, an additional renewable five‑year mandate, a move that drew criticism from opposition figures and raised concerns about democratic backsliding.

These coups and prolonged military regimes have had significant regional implications. In January 2025, Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger formally withdrew from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), a regional bloc designed to promote economic cooperation and political stability. The three junta‑led nations formed an alternative alliance known as the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), deepening divisions within West Africa and complicating collective responses to security threats.

The trend is not unique to the Sahel. Guinea and Guinea‑Bissau have also experienced military takeovers, with the latter’s coup occurring as recently as November 26, 2025. These events have contributed to a broader sense of instability across parts of West and Central Africa, prompting strong condemnations from regional bodies such as ECOWAS and the African Union. These organisations have reiterated their “zero tolerance” stance toward unconstitutional changes of government, emphasising the need to uphold democratic norms and constitutional order

International actors, including the United Nations and the European Union, have also condemned the Benin coup attempt and called on all parties to respect constitutional processes. The UN Special Representative for West Africa expressed concern over threats to stability and reiterated support for the Beninese government’s efforts to protect democracy and peace.

The causes behind these coups and attempts are complex and varied. In some cases, it is a reaction to perceived authoritarianism or political exclusion, as critics accused President Talon in Benin of restricting political competition ahead of elections.

In others, security challenges especially the spread of jihadist violence across the Sahel have exacerbated discontent within military ranks and among the broader population. In Niger, for instance, the coup leaders cited insecurity and government shortcomings in addressing insurgent threats as justification for their actions.

Economic hardship, weakened state institutions, and shifting geopolitical influences, including the rise of external partners offering alternative security and economic alliances, have also played roles. Many junta‑led states have distanced themselves from Western partners and embraced new alliances, often with nations that challenge traditional Western influence in the region.

The attempted coup in Benin, though quickly thwarted, highlights both the resilience of constitutional order in some contexts and the fragility of democratic governance in others.

It serves as a reminder that political stability in West Africa remains precarious, and that preventing future coups will require not only strong security responses but also inclusive political dialogue, economic development, and renewed commitment to democratic principles.

As investigations continue in Benin and authorities pursue those behind the mutiny, regional leaders and international partners will likely intensify efforts to address the root causes driving military takeovers and promote sustainable governance throughout the continent.

  • Akosua Serwaa, others missed Daddy Lumba’s funeral due to lack of official notice – Papa Shee

Akosua Serwaa, others missed Daddy Lumba’s funeral due to lack of official notice – Papa Shee

Evangelist Papa Shee has revealed that Akosua Serwaa, wife of the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba, together with other family members, missed the late musician’s funeral due to a lack of official notice.

  • Court orders Daddy Lumba’s funeral to take place on December 13

Court orders Daddy Lumba’s funeral to take place on December 13

The Accra High Court has ruled that Daddy Lumba’s funeral, set for December 13, 2025, should take place as originally arranged.

This decision follows an earlier injunction granted by the court, which stopped the funeral and barred the family head, Kofi Owusu, from overseeing the burial, while also preventing Transitions Funeral Home from releasing the body.

But shortly after issuing that ruling, the court summoned all legal representatives and released a new directive.

In its earlier ruling, the court stated that the applicants must provide GH¢2 million to the court by 2 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025. If they failed to do so, the funeral would go ahead on Saturday, December 13, 2025.

The court explained that although it acknowledged the applicants’ concerns, the injunction came with heavy financial consequences and could place an unfair burden on the respondents.

Because of this, the judge instructed the applicants—who include members of Daddy Lumba’s maternal family—to deposit GH¢2 million as security to cover any possible costs caused by the postponement.

After the applicants did not provide the required amount, the court ruled that the funeral could move forward on the 13th.

Meanwhile, Evangelist Papa Shee has explained that Daddy Lumba’s funeral will not take place in December due to delays in travel arrangements for some family members abroad.

“The burial ceremony on December 13 will not come off because the musician’s children have exams on February 26, 2026, and others have expired passports. The autopsy result isn’t out because we are also in court with Transition,” Papa Shee stated.

In a video shared on November 29, 2025, he appeared appeared on United Showbiz with Kofi Owusu, family head of the late Ghanaian Highlife legend to clarify the family’s position on matters surrounding Daddy Lumba’s funeral arrangements.

He added that the funeral has been scheduled for March 14, 2025, because the family must first meet President John Dramani Mahama over his proposal to grant the late musician a state burial.

“…We also went to the presidency to inform the President when Lumba passed. He wasn’t around, but we met Julius Debrah, and he even told us that they would like to give Daddy Lumba a state burial. We haven’t even gone back for feedback,” Papa Shee added.

Contrary to this,  Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu also maintained that the initial burial date (December 13), will come off as scheduled, and nobody has the authority to change it.

According to the Abusuapanyin, Papa Shee is not a family member, and he will sue him if he continues to claim that the burial date has been changed.

“I am the one who fixed the date, and I am saying that the burial ceremony will be held on December 13, no matter what. Your new date will not come on, no matter what.

“Are you a family member? Why would you interfere in the affairs of another family when you are not part of it? If we hear you mentioning the 14th, I will take you on,” Kofi Owusu insisted.

However, she has expressed readiness to organize the funeral on the once she receives a clear explanation about what caused Daddy Lumba’s death before then.

  • WHO advises Africa on multi-drug approach to keep malaria treatments effective

WHO advises Africa on multi-drug approach to keep malaria treatments effective

Impact Sante Afrique (ISA), together with Ghana’s National Malaria Elimination Programme, has launched a documentary series called #ProtectTheCure to show the real situation of malaria drug resistance in Africa.

The four-part series, produced by Boni Lab at Temple University with Normal Life Pictures Ltd, aims to get decision-makers and communities involved in protecting malaria medicines for future generations.

Through scientists, public health experts, and affected communities, the film explains what Artemisinin resistance is, why it matters, and what can be done to stop it.

Malaria continues to be one of the biggest health challenges in sub-Saharan Africa, affecting millions of families every year. In 2023, the WHO reported about 263 million malaria cases and 597,000 deaths worldwide, with Africa accounting for 95% of these deaths.

Besides the human toll, malaria puts huge pressure on health systems, slows economic growth, and affects the well-being of communities.

For the last 20 years, artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs) have greatly improved malaria control and saved millions of lives. But the rise of partial artemisinin resistance now threatens to undo this progress.

Dr Felicia Owusu-Antwi, WHO Ghana Officer for Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases, advised African countries to adopt multi-first-line therapy medicines to stop malaria drug resistance. She made the recommendation during a Regional dialogue on Malaria Drug Resistance in Africa, held alongside the International Conference on AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections in Africa (ICASA 2025).

She explained that the approach “involved making several different, effective ACTs available at the national level, rather than relying solely on a single option for the treatment of malaria on the continent.”

Dr Owusu-Antwi also said African countries must carry out studies to track how well their malaria medicines are working. She stressed that this is necessary because the medicines “were gradually becoming ineffective because the malaria parasites were learning to overcome them.”

She warned: “If we lose these ACTs, we lose our strongest line of defence. We will see more severe cases, more deaths, overcrowded health facilities, and higher out-of-pocket payments for households.”

Despite tools to detect resistance, many African countries struggle with surveillance due to a lack of funding. Dr Owusu-Antwi urged governments to take charge of malaria research, education, and monitoring, warning that “poor treatment adherence, self-medication, and the circulation of substandard drugs were worsening the threat.”

Dr Mark Nawaane, Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health and a member of COPEMA, called on African governments to provide resources to fight malaria. He highlighted Ghana’s ongoing efforts, including destroying larvae, using treated bednets, and indoor spraying.

He added: “We are importing the drugs. And now there is even a vaccine to assist us, to vaccinate the children against malaria. But we need to keep up the tempo of the fight.”

Dr Nawaane also revealed that soon, malaria treatment under the government’s primary healthcare programme will be free: “When that happens, anybody suffering from malaria will not be sitting in the house; they will come to the health facilities. And as you know, when you start the treatment early, your resources will be better, and then there will not be any treatment failure.”

He said education in communities is ongoing to teach people how to respond when they have malaria.

Mrs Cecilia Senoo, Executive Director of Hope for Future Generations (HFFG), called for stronger collaboration with civil society, saying: “Malaria elimination cannot succeed when key partners are sidelined. Civil society, manufacturers, mothers, community leaders, and the media all have critical roles. We need innovative strategies for prevention and sustained education.”

She also urged the government to invest in malaria research and expand the malaria vaccination programme, stressing that Ghana should not depend solely on donor funding. Senoo called for greater involvement from the private sector, including mining companies.

Dr Hilarius Abiwu, Programme Manager at the National Malaria Elimination Programme, reassured that current malaria medicines in Ghana remain effective, with cure rates close to 100%. He emphasized that waiting to react is not a strategy, noting the need for early-warning systems and planning. He also revealed that Ghana is exploring triple-drug combinations to stay ahead of resistance.

The regional dialogue was organised in collaboration with the RBM Partnership to End Malaria, Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV), Target Malaria, and Hope For Future Generations (HFFG).

  • Daddy Lumba’s burial put on hold by court until family dispute is resolved

Daddy Lumba’s burial put on hold by court until family dispute is resolved

The Accra High Court has temporarily halted the burial of the late musician Daddy Lumba following an injunction filed by his maternal family.

The court barred the first respondent from organizing the funeral and prevented the third respondent from releasing the body from the mortuary until the main case is decided.

In its ruling, the court emphasised the importance of considering the merits of each side, noting that affidavits showed the immediate family had been excluded from funeral arrangements.

While acknowledging that delaying the burial could incur additional costs, the judge stressed that proper family consultation and due process must be respected.

The court highlighted that although the family head has authority over funeral processes, such leadership must be exercised in consultation with immediate relatives.

Accordingly, it ordered the first respondent to convene a stakeholder meeting within three weeks to agree on a new burial date.

The ruling also directed that all funds raised for the funeral be kept separate from the Daddy Lumba Memorial Foundation account, and required the applicants to file an affidavit with the court registrar.

The dispute follows Daddy Lumba’s death on July 26, 2025, at the age of 60, which sparked disagreements between his maternal relatives and the family head over who should lead the funeral and how related funds should be managed.

The conflict underscores longstanding Akan customs, which give significant roles to the maternal lineage in burial decisions, and highlights the need for proper family involvement in funeral proceedings.

Evangelist Papa Shee has stated that the burial of Daddy Lumba is scheduled by his family for March 2026.

This comes to dispute reports that the funeral of highlife legend will take place in December, insisting that the family has not approved any such date.

“To my knowledge, and according to the family, the funeral will take place in March,” he said on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show.

He also claimed that an effort by certain relatives and organizers to deliver drinks and invitations at the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday was turned down.

“Yesterday they went to the Manhyia Palace and they were turned away. How can they proceed with the funeral if their drinks and invitations were rejected?” he questioned.

Papa Shee claimed that the earlier-formed committee for Daddy Lumba’s funeral no longer exists, meaning there is presently no formal body overseeing the event.

“The so-called funeral committee has been dissolved. The planning committee for Daddy Lumba’s funeral was dissolved long ago, so who exactly is claiming to plan the funeral now?” he asked.

Menawhile on December 3, Denise Lady Ama Saah Fosu, the first daughter of the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba, announced that their father will be buried on December 13 in Kumasi.

In a video recorded at the musician’s East Legon residence after arriving in Ghana on November 30, 2025 Ama Saah calmly said, “Hello, my name is Denise Lady Ama Saah Fosu, the eldest daughter of the late Charles Fosu, also known as Daddy Lumba. I’m here, representing my entire family today. We’d like to kindly invite you to my father’s funeral which will take place on the 13th December in Kumasi. We wish all well-wishers and mourners to join us to celebrate his life.”

Evangelist Papa Shee had explained that Daddy Lumba’s funeral will not take place in December due to delays in travel arrangements for some family members abroad.

“The burial ceremony on December 13 will not come off because the musician’s children have exams on February 26, 2026, and others have expired passports. The autopsy result isn’t out because we are also in court with Transition,” Papa Shee stated.
