Charles Bissue fails to secure Court’s approval to prevent future arrests by OSP

Former secretary to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), Charles Bissue’s judicial review application, aimed at quashing an arrest warrant obtained by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) against him, has been unsuccessful.

This information was revealed by the OSP in a social media post on January 16, 2025.

“On Monday, 15 January 2024, Charles Bissue’s lawyer was unsuccessful in seeking the court to rescind its decision to have him cross-examined,” the post read.

Mr Bissue was declared wanted for failing to respond to an invitation to appear and answer questions in an investigation into suspected corruption within the dissolved IMCIM.

Mr Bissue’s lawyers sought to stop the court’s directive for him to be cross-examined, arguing that the arrest warrant was obtained based on malice. Despite their efforts, the judicial review application was unsuccessful.

Charles Bissue turned himself in and was subsequently arrested after being declared wanted by the OSP. The Human Rights Court had earlier imposed a GH¢500 fine on him for what it deemed his failure to take a decision on his case seeking to stop the OSP from investigating and prosecuting him.

At the last adjourned date, the court granted the OSP permission to cross-examine Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah. This decision was made in response to an affidavit submitted by Mr. Awuah, claiming that the Office had obtained a warrant for Bissue’s arrest.

As per the court’s directive, Bissue’s lawyer was also supposed to submit his written submissions for the case. However, he failed to do so, citing a torn ligament as the reason and requested additional time.

Meanwhile, the court has adjourned the case to February 1, allowing Bissue’s lawyers time to file his written submissions on the matter.

  • Court adjourns Cecilia Dapaah’s freezing account trial to Jan. 25

Court adjourns Cecilia Dapaah’s freezing account trial to Jan. 25

The Accra High Court has postponed the hearing of the case involving former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Abena Dapaah to Thursday, January 25, 2024.

The case revolves around the reported failure of the former Minister to declare her income and property to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

Furthermore, the court has also deferred the consideration of the OSP’s application to confirm freezing and seizure orders related to Cecilia Dapaah’s bank accounts and assets at her residence to January 25.

On October 10, 2023, Madam Dapaah’s legal team filed an injunction application against the OSP. According to court documents, the lawyers argued that without a restraint order, the former Minister would suffer irreparable damage due to the actions of the OSP.

“This Court is enjoined to balance the economic right of the affected persons against the State’s power to fight corruption. It is the Applicants’ considered view that they would suffer irreparable harm if the Respondent is not restrained pending the final determination of the substantive matter.”

The application filed by Cecilia Abena Dapaah and her husband, Daniel Osei Kuffuor, is currently under consideration by the Human Rights Court in Accra. The case is aimed at restraining the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) from further freezing Madam Dapaah’s accounts and seizing cash recovered from their residence.

The court has adjourned the hearing of this case to February 1, 2024. The delay provides additional time for both parties to present their arguments and evidence before the court makes a decision on the matter.

    Background

Two house helps who were employed by Cecilia Abena Dapaah and her husband, Daniel Osei Kuffour, are facing charges for allegedly stealing money and items worth millions of cedis from the couple’s residence in Abelemkpe, Accra.

The main accused individuals, 18-year-old Patience Botwe and 30-year-old Sarah Agyei, are charged with conspiracy to commit crime and five counts of stealing. The alleged thefts occurred between July and October 2022.

During this period, the house helps reportedly stole personal effects belonging to Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah, including assorted clothes valued at GH¢95,000, handbags, perfumes, and jewelry worth US$95,000. Additionally, Ms. Botwe is accused of stealing six pieces of Kente cloth worth GH¢90,000 and six sets of men’s suits valued at US$3,000, which belong to the minister’s husband.

Three other individuals, identified as Ms. Botwe’s current and former boyfriends and her father, are also facing charges for allegedly being involved in the crime. They have been respectively charged with dishonestly receiving GH¢1 million, GH¢180,000, and GH¢50,000.

The stolen money and items, taken from the couple’s bedroom in their residence, prompted the complainants to report the theft case to the police in June 2023. Ms. Botwe was allegedly caught entering the couple’s room with a duplicate key, leading to her arrest.

Bail was granted to Sarah Agyei in the sum of GH¢1 million with two sureties, while Ms. Botwe, along with her alleged boyfriends and father, has been remanded into lawful custody.

The Special Prosecutor’s office has announced an investigation into the matter, starting with the arrest of Madam Cecilia Dapaah.

Founder of The New Force, Nana Kwame Bediako, widely recognized as Cheddar, has conveyed the positive and successful relationship he has with wealth, particularly money.

For Cheddar, money is no mere object, but he describes it as if it were a romantic partner. According to him, even when he does not actively seek it, money finds a way to locate him, which implies that his financial success or opportunities are abundant and readily available.

In an interview on Kofi TV with host, Kofi Adoma, he noted that he is currently being served or worshipped by money.

“Money is like a woman; we came to meet it, and we will leave it. Money likes me. Even when I leave it, it finds a way to get to me. It follows me; when I speak, it is close by; and when I sit, it sits. For some people, when they get money, it quickly vanishes.

“I share for everyone to get a portion. I give to the visually impaired, the rich, mothers, paupers and I also know how to spend money very well.

The footage of the interview that has surfaced on social media comes at a time when Cheddar has recounted the period when he first became a millionaire.

According to the business mogul, he achieved his first million pounds at the age of 21 due to a combination of ventures in the telecommunications sector and a strategic involvement in the scrap business in the United Kingdom.

Cheddar revealed that he utilized $20,000 from his initial million-pound earnings to establish a club in Ghana.

This entrepreneurial move proved fruitful, resulting in a profit of $75,000 after selling the club in 2002.

“The first money I made in England altogether was a million pounds and I was 21. I was working for myself, my company was GT, Global Telecommunications and Utilities I was selling scrap. I had my own office and I two employees.

“I started investments at a very young age and what happens when you make investments is that the money goes away and it feels like you are broke again so it makes you hungry,” he said.

  • We are writing to TOR management to revert interdiction of Executives – GTPCWU

We are writing to TOR management to revert interdiction of Executives – GTPCWU

The General Transport Petroleum Chemical Workers Union (GTPCWU) is determined to secure the reinstatement of its interdicted executives without delay.

The two executives faced interdiction by the TOR Board of Directors over their involvement in disclosing classified information related to the controversial deal between Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and Torentco during a press conference.

The union has been actively advocating for the removal of the TOR Board of Directors following their opposition to the Torentco deal. The board cited a breach of the non-disclosure agreement regarding the draft TOR/Torentco Lease and O&M agreements, referring to Article 43(4) (vii) of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between TOR and GTPCWU.

During an interview on Eyewitness News on January 15, 2024, Bernard Owusu, the Chairman of GTPCWU, asserted that the union executives did not commit any offense justifying their interdiction.

He characterized the board’s action as a “show of power” and expressed unfamiliarity with the new manual introduced by the Board of Directors.

“The Chairperson for the Junior Staff at TOR and the Chairman for the Senior Staff have been interdicted as employees of TOR for speaking to the media and talking about the Torentco deal. In the history of TOR, this is the first time that we have heard of this so-called manual of not speaking to the media or going to the media. This is sheer power; the board of directors wants to show they are the people in charge and are untouchable.

The board claims they have shared confidential information, and by so doing, they have interdicted them. They have not done anything wrong; these are innocent workers who are doing their jobs as leaders of TOR. It means if you are doing something fraudulent, nobody should talk about it,” he said.

Mr Owusu added, “The mother union is writing to management to revert the decision unconditionally; we are consulting our structures, and tomorrow we are having a management committee meeting. The workers of the refinery will not allow this to go to sleep without using lawful means to bring members back.”

The Chairman of GTPCWU affirmed that the union will resist any attempts by the TOR Board of Directors to vent their anger on the workers.

“Let me caution the board of TOR once again, we are saying that they are incompetent; they cannot do the job President Akufo-Addo’s government has given them. They have failed woefully. They rather want to vent their frustration on members; we will not allow that to survive,” he stated.

GTPCWU condemns interdiction of its executives over Torentco deal

The General Transport, Petroleum, Chemical, and Workers’ Union of the Trades Union Congress (GTPCWU) has characterized the interdiction of two of its members by the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) board as a mere display of power.

The two individuals, who also hold executive positions in the union, were suspended for allegedly releasing confidential information related to the controversial agreement between TOR and Torentco.

The workers had expressed their opposition to the deal and are additionally calling for the dissolution of the TOR board.

Despite the interdictions, the chairman of the union, Bernard Owusu, stated in an interview with Citi News that they remain unperturbed by the actions taken against them.

“This is the first time we are hearing about directives not to speak to the media in the history of TOR, and so this is just a sheer display of power by the board of directors to show that they are in charge and untouchable. I want the whole world to know that these are innocent workers, and the board just wants to show power.”

Mr. Owusu further stated that the union intends to write to the board, formally demanding the reinstatement of the two interdicted executives.

“The mother union will write to management to reverse the decision unconditionally, and we are consulting our structures. We are having a management committee meeting, and from there, we will come out and let the world know what we want to do.”

  • Cheddar and Benard Avle debate heatedly over Ghana’s classification as ‘middle-income country’

Cheddar and Benard Avle debate heatedly over Ghana’s classification as ‘middle-income country’

Founder of The New Force, Nana Kwame Bediako, widely recognized as Cheddar, engaged in an intellectual debate with Citi TV journalist, Bernard Avle during an appearance on the Point of View show.

During the show, Ghana’s classification as a middle-income country became a controversial topic, and the duo presented opposing views.

Bernard Avle held the position that Ghana is indeed a middle-income country, but Mr Bediako argued otherwise, stating that Ghana is a low-income country.

Mr Bediako argued that since the government run to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for economic assistance through a credit facility worth $3 billion, it is a low-income country.

“They went to beg to save the economy, but you are sitting in front of me, and I know you know a lot about economics, and you are telling me this country is a middle-income country.

“How then do we go so broke that we lost all the cash in our central bank and we had to go to IMF to save us? Ghana is a low-income country,” he stressed.

A much more composed Bernard Avle insisted that “Ghana is a middle-income country.”

    Fact-check

On April 14, 2021, the Ministry of Finance indicated that Ghana continues to be categorised as a “Lower-Middle Income Economy” based on the widely classification of the World Bank and the UN.

“The IMF Fiscal Monitor does not aspire at classifying countries by income level. Instead, it analyses the latest public finance developments, updates medium-term fiscal projections, and assesses policies to put public finances on a sustainable footing. The groupings of economies presented in the Fiscal Monitor’s Methodological and Statistical Appendix serve an analytical purpose only. In this appendix, Ghana is conveniently categorized as a “Low-Income Developing Country (LIDC)”, like other Lower-Middle Income Economies such as Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, Nigeria and others,” the Ministry explained in a statement.

The Finance Ministry made this statement in reaction to reports that Ghana had been downgraded as a “low income country” by the IMF in accordance with its latest Fiscal Monitor.

On its website, the World Bank views Ghana as a Lower-middle income country.

    Determination

The classification of a country as a lower-middle-income nation is typically determined by its Gross National Income (GNI) per capita, which is the total income of a country’s residents, including income from abroad, divided by its population. The World Bank classifies countries into different income groups based on their GNI per capita. As of the World Bank’s classification (2022), the income groups are:

    1. Low-income countries
    2. Lower-middle-income countries
    3. Upper-middle-income countries
    4. High-income countries

For the lower-middle-income category, the World Bank sets a specific GNI per capita range. As of the World Bank’s fiscal year 2022, the threshold for lower-middle-income countries is a GNI per capita between $1,056 and $4,095.

It’s important to note that these thresholds are subject to change, and the World Bank updates them annually based on factors like inflation and currency exchange rates. Additionally, being classified as a lower-middle-income nation does not only depend on income levels but also takes into account other economic indicators and factors such as development and standard of living.

‘Honeymoon period’ for next govt will be dependent on tight expenditure – UTAG-UG

Labor unions have expressed their commitment to offering support and flexibility to the next government, provided that the political party aligns its expenditures with available resources and avoids unnecessary spending.

The unions stand for responsible fiscal management and financial prudence.

This stance comes in response to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama, who has requested a “honeymoon” period from Ghanaians, especially trade and labor groups, should his party regain power.

Mahama emphasized the importance of time to revive the economy before addressing specific demands.

Following former President John Mahama’s appeal for a “honeymoon” period, the President of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) – University of Ghana Chapter, Prof Ransford Gyampo, has indicated that the association would only contemplate granting such a period if Mahama demonstrates a genuine commitment to tightening government expenses.

It is his hope that the next government “wouldn’t be seen or be heard talking, telling labour to tighten their belt while you and your appointees will be living in opulence, as we keep seeing now.”

“So what is going to be the size of the government? Are they going to be selling vehicles that may be bequeathed to them by the current administration? I mean, if some of these things are done, we will not get the support from labour,” he added.

Meanwhile, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the spokesperson for John Mahama, has assured that the former President is prepared to exercise control over government expenditure if he receives the support.

Angola frustrate Algeria, end 2023 AFCON opener in stalemate

Algeria faced disappointment in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) opener as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Angola in Bouake.

Despite taking the lead through Baghdad Bounedjah, Angola managed to secure a point with a second-half equalizer from Mabululu. The Angolan striker converted the rebound after his penalty struck the bar in the Group D clash.

Algeria, aiming to avoid a repeat of their 2022 performance when they exited in the group stages as defending champions, started positively with Bounedjah’s clinical finish after 18 minutes. Although Bounedjah scored a spectacular overhead kick shortly afterward, the goal was disallowed for offside following a VAR review.

The Algerians struggled to create further chances, and Angola, coming into the match with four consecutive goalless draws, drew level in the 65th minute. Mabululu was brought down in the box by Nabil Bentaleb and scored on the rebound after his initial penalty hit the bar.

Despite a late surge of pressure from Algeria, including Riyad Mahrez’s threat from set-plays, Angola, ranked 117th, held on for a point. The result continued Algeria’s recent struggles in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Driver who defiled stepdaughter in her teens jailed 15 years

A 47-year-old driver, Joseph Yankson, has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by the Gender-Based Court at the Police Headquarters for sexually abusing his 13-year-old stepdaughter in Tetegu, Accra.

Yankson took advantage of the victim’s mother’s absence and committed the act twice, promising to appease the family with a sheep after the first incident.

Charged with defilement, Yankson pleaded guilty, leading to his conviction by the court presided over by Dora Eshun Inkumasah. Chief Inspector Opoku Aniagyie, representing Chief Inspector Simon Tekpor, stated that the complainant, a teacher and friend of the victim’s mother, reported the incident.

The court heard that the accused, now a convict, was the stepfather of the victim, and they lived together in Tetegu. In 2023, the victim’s mother left for Ajumako in the Central Region, leaving the children in the care of Yankson.

Taking advantage of the situation, Yankson engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim. Upon the victim’s mother’s return, the crime was reported, leading to a family meeting where Yankson admitted the offense and promised to appease the family.

However, on December 26, 2023, Yankson repeated the act, and the victim informed her mother upon her return.

The matter was then reported to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit, leading to the issuance of a medical form for the victim’s examination and treatment on January 4, 2024.

Lionel Messi secured the Men’s Player of the Year accolade for a historic third time at The FIFA Best Awards ceremony held in London.

The 36-year-old Argentina captain clinched the title after a vote tie-break with Erling Haaland, where Messi received more first-choice nominations from national team captains, resulting in a tied total of 48 points for both players.

Despite a remarkable achievement by Manchester City striker Haaland, who set a record-breaking Premier League scoring total of 36 goals and contributed to the Citizens’ Treble victory, Messi’s contributions stood out.

Messi, who netted 16 goals and provided an equal number of assists for Paris Saint-Germain in the 2022-23 Ligue 1 season, later made a high-profile move to Inter Miami, where he lifted the Leagues Cup in August.

In the women’s category, Aitana Bonmati, the Ballon d’Or Feminin holder, was named the Best Women’s Player. The 25-year-old midfielder played a pivotal role in Spain’s World Cup triumph last summer and also contributed to Barcelona’s victories in the Champions League and Liga F.

After being presented with the award, Bonmati said: “I am proud of being part of a powerful generation of women, part of changing the rules of the game, and the world.”

In other categories, Pep Guardiola was named the Best Men’s Coach for guiding Manchester City to the Treble last season, while England’s Sarina Weigman claimed the women’s coaching prize for the fourth time.

Mary Earps secured the Best Women’s Goalkeeper award for the second consecutive year, recognizing her stellar performances with England and Manchester United. Her outstanding campaign also earned her the BBC Sports Personality of the Year accolade.

  • There is no real plan as to what Ghana has been doing with Black Stars – Jerome Otchere

There is no real plan as to what Ghana has been doing with Black Stars – Jerome Otchere

A former Editor of Kotoko Express, Jerome Otchere, has attributed the underwhelming performance of the senior national football team to fundamental flaws in its management.

During an appearance on JoyNews’ PM Express, Mr. Otchere placed the blame squarely on stakeholders, particularly the Sports Ministry, asserting that Ghana has not established a clear and comprehensive vision for the Black Stars.

He emphasized that the absence of a well-defined plan has been a significant factor contributing to the team’s recent struggles on the continental stage.

Mr. Otchere’s comments followed Ghana’s defeat in its first match of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) against Cape Verde on Sunday.

He emphasized that the traditional approach of allocating funds only when the team qualifies for a tournament is insufficient.

“I do not think that as a country we have clearly identified what we want to do with our senior national team. All that we’ve been doing is when it’s time for a tournament and we’re lucky to qualify, money is made available for them to travel and that is all.

“There is no real plan as to what Ghana has been doing with the Black Stars,” he told host Evans Mensah on Monday.

Mr. Otchere contended that relying on a reactive strategy does not effectively address the root issues affecting the performance of the Black Stars. He called for a shift towards a more proactive and sustained effort from the authorities to address the challenges facing the national football team.

Additionally, he questioned the absence of a comprehensive plan for the Black Stars and urged stakeholders to prioritize the identification and pursuit of specific goals. Mr. Otchere emphasized the importance of having a well-defined roadmap to guide the development and success of the team on both the national and continental stages.

“Where [do] we want to take it [Black Stars] and if you’re talking about player quality, how are you nurturing players?” he stated.

The Davos Meeting stands as a significant global forum that brings together leaders in politics, business, finance, and academia to engage in discussions on issues impacting the international community.

Following his participation in Davos, Switzerland, the President will travel to Kampala, Uganda, to partake in the 2024 Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement. The conference revolves around the theme “Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence.”

The Non-Aligned Movement traces its roots back to the Bandung Conference, held from April 18 to 24, 1955.

This historic conference, also known as the first large-scale Asian–African or Afro–Asian Conference, took place in Bandung, Indonesia, and was attended by delegations from 29 governments, predominantly from Asia, as many African states were still under colonial control at the time.

Allow Atta-Mills to live peacefully in his resting place – Samuel Atta-Mills

Brother of the late former President John Evans Fiifi Atta-Mills, Samuel Atta-Mills, has called on President Akufo-Addo and other individuals interested in the autopsy report of his deceased brother to rescind their decision.

According to him, the late Mills has been buried and must be allowed to rest in peace.

“The man has been buried. Allow him to live peacefully in his resting place,” he said during an interaction with the media.

President John Evans Fiifi Atta-Mills passed away on July 24, 2012.

The appeal for the autopsy report came from Nana Enyimfua III, representing the family, during a visit to the president in Accra on Saturday. Nana Enyimfua III expressed concerns about the unknown cause of the late president’s death and stressed the importance of obtaining the autopsy report for closure and historical records.

The MP for Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem, Samuel Atta Mills, has indicated that the bereaved family is content with the findings of the autopsy report on their deceased.

“He is my brother and I was there for the autopsy. The real family is happy with whatever we were told. We accept whatever it is.

Also, brother of the late president of Ghana, Dr Cadman Mills has responded to renewed requests from certain relatives of the late president seeking his autopsy report.

In addressing the matter, Dr. Cadman Mills, stated that “the (legitimate) family can obtain a copy from 37 [Military Hospital].”

In a post on X, he added “VERY STALE NEWS!!! And exasperating! President Mills died. An Autopsy was performed at 37 Military Hospital. A “family Representative” was present at autopsy, as required by law. The (legitimate) family can obtain a copy from “37” to do with as it pleases. Next Subject.”

President  Akufo-Addo has described the request by Nana Enyimfua III as a “legitimate one”.

“I’ll have to find out how to proceed on that, but it’s a legitimate demand,” the president said after the family called on him at Jubilee House.

“If the family wants to have [the autopsy report] of someone who died in those circumstances, it’s a legitimate demand”, Mr Akufo-Addo said after Mr Koku Anyidoho, the spokesperson of the late president, had informed him in the presence of Mills’ family that only the late President’s brother, Samuel Atta Mills, claims to have the autopsy report.

Anyone who wins 2024 elections must work for hunger and anger votes received – Prof Gyampo

President of the University Teachers Association of Ghana, University of Ghana chapter, Prof Ransford Gyampo, has emphasized that the Labour Union will cast their votes in the 2024 polls driven by hunger and anger.

In an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story on Monday, January 15, he underscored the importance of meeting labor conditions of service regardless of the election outcome.

“It must be noted that in the upcoming 2024 elections, Labour would vote with hunger and anger. Anybody who benefits from the hunger and anger votes of Labour must necessarily do something to mitigate the hunger and anger of Labour no matter how small they may be,” Prof Gyampo said.

In response to former President John Mahama’s appeal for a grace period upon regaining power, Prof Ransford Gyampo, the senior political science lecturer at the University of Ghana and President of the University Teachers Association of Ghana, outlined certain conditions that the government must fulfill before the Labour Union considers granting such a honeymoon period.

“Leaving by example here, I am talking about the fact that you wouldn’t ask Labour to tighten their belts whilst you your appointees would be leaving in opulence as we keep seeing now,” he explained.

‘Unoccupied’ residence of late Justice Marful-Sau being redeveloped – Report

JoyNews has reported that the residence of the late Supreme Court Justice Marful-Sau remains unoccupied. The Ministry of Works and Housing has denied allegations of collusion with former Chief Justice Anim Yeboah to sell the lands.

The government stated that it is implementing a redevelopment program for prime government lands, following a policy dating back to 1992.

The redeveloped property is intended to serve as a residential facility for ministers of state, judicial service workers, and other government officials upon completion.

An assembly member at Roman Ridge, Adam Yussif walked the news team through the buildings explaining that “this particular property here is like an acre of land which used to house about one property, one tenant, and that tenant was a prison officer.”

“And then now, as you can see, we have about six units of property here, which can house about three directors from the same unit or from a different government unit, and which is laudable because the land size of this area over the years was like an acre but (we had) a single house, a very small, tiny house in the building. Now, if it’s redeveloped, I mean, you can take more people, unlike other places,” he said.

    Late Justice Marful-Sau

According to a statement from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the ongoing developments at the late Justice Marful-Sau’s official residence are part of the Government Redevelopment Programme (GRP).

“The GRP, which dates as far back as 1992, has since its inception, been widely implemented by successive Governments within the Greater Accra Region, specifically in Kanda, Cantonments, West Ridge and Roman Ridge. On 14th May 2018, Cabinet approved a revised scheme regarding the GRP to include other neighborhoods such as Osu Ringway, Airport Residential Area and Labone,” the statement noted.

The statement further explained that the Government Redevelopment Programme (GRP) was initiated to address the increasing demand for residential accommodation in Accra for public and civil servants. The program aims to optimize government-owned prime lands in older, deteriorating neighborhoods in Accra and other major cities in the country.

The objectives of the Programme are to, among others:

    • Achieve higher and optimum densities in prime areas and ensure efficient utilization of existing infrastructure.
    • Contribute to the positive impact of the growth of our major cities by mitigating the rapid horizontal sprawl.
    • Achieve a significant increase in the total stock of both government and private residential properties countrywide.
    • Improve the urban context and neighbourhood characteristics of the old residential properties in our major cities.

Chef Faila narrates what she saw when she visited Ibrahim Mahama’s home

Chef Failatu Abdul-Razak’s remarkable attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual, commonly known as a cook-a-thon, has captured the admiration of Ghanaians and earned her nationwide acclaim.

In a resurfaced interview, Chef Failatu shared her humble beginnings and recounted how one individual, the renowned Ghanaian businessman Ibrahim Mahama, made a transformative impact on her life.

She described herself as having “nothing” at the time when a friend encouraged her to approach Ibrahim Mahama during his visit to her hometown, Tamale. This encounter, she revealed, became a turning point that significantly improved her life.

“This is the first time I’m saying this on air. And I’m telling you for a fact that the very day I met Ibrahim Mahama… John Mahama’s, Ibrahim Muhammad. Look, I was just an ordinary girl from Tamale, a local girl. I remember that very day, we were fasting. We were actually in the fasting season. I was fasting.

“I had fasted on that day and we were just about to break our fast when one of my male friends called me and told me that Faila, ‘I heard that Ibrahim Mahama has come and he’s at Garba Lodge. You are doing very well with your music. It’s just that you don’t have support. I want you to try and go to him by yourself. Go and tell that man to support you’,” she narrated.

She added, “’And if you are lucky, the man is going to support you’. My house is just around Kamina. I took my hijab and wore it … and I took my veil and just kept it on my head, took my motorbike. I was in front of Garba Lodge. God being so graceful. When I got there, he was just coming out of his accommodation and the security was heavy there”.

Chef Faila went on to describe how she mustered the courage to approach Ibrahim Mahama, even in the midst of the security presence around him.

“I confidently started walking straight towards the man. All of a sudden, the security pounced on me. Why are you going? Come back. Come back. But I kept moving, so they rushed to come and hold me back. Then the man did this (a sign) and said, leave her.

“When I got closer to the man after the security left me, he was going for dinner and they had called for prayers for us to break our fast. So, he said,’… let’s go and have dinner together’. This is something if somebody told me that my whole life, I could get such an opportunity I wouldn’t believe,” she said.

In her account, the chef revealed that after explaining her passion and needs to Ibrahim Mahama, he sent for a bag, and the financial support she received nearly overwhelmed her, expressing her profound gratitude for the generous assistance.

“So, believe me, I was more than shocked when Ibrahim Mahama asked somebody to go and bring him a particular bag. The bag came and I was given money. Believe me, when I saw the money, I nearly fainted. Because my whole life, not even from my family have I ever seen it,” she said.

He added that her actions after taking the money made Mahama and his family crack up.

“Look, I removed my scarf and used it to cover the money. And it’s an achievement for me that I got him and his family laughing. Because my actions naturally proved to him that I needed this and I am not a slay queen. The man was so happy of my actions. And I loved the fact that he could laugh out of my actions.”

  • Why Michael Essien faced several injuries at Chelsea – Former teammate Mikel Obi explains

Why Michael Essien faced several injuries at Chelsea – Former teammate Mikel Obi explains

Former Chelsea player, Mikel Obi, has shed light on the reasons his Ghanaian counterpart, Michael Essien, suffered a lot of injuries during his stay at the club.

In an interview, Mikel Obi pointed to an ACL injury—a tear or sprain of the anterior cruciate (KROO-she-ate) ligament (ACL)—one of the strong bands of tissue that help connect your thigh bone (femur) to your shinbone (tibia).

He noted that due to Essien’s massive thighs, his knees could not withstand so much movement while on the field, making him prone to injuries.

“I remembered a certain teammate, Michael Essien, who suffered similar thing. He was always injured and it was always ACL. He had them on both news. I think then the doctor said your weight on your thighs, your thighs are heavy to carry… Your knees cannot hold them. If you look at Michael, his thighs are massive. But then when you look at his knees, his knees are that tiny and then it made sense,” he said.

Mikel Obi added that “until he started losing the upper body to give his knees the rest, then it started to work much better for him. It is so sad when you see players go through this.”

Essien’s football journey began in his home country, Ghana, where he played for Liberty Professionals. Essien moved to Europe and started his professional career with SC Bastia in France during the 2000-2001 season. His performances quickly attracted attention.

In 2003, Essien joined Olympique Lyonnais (Lyon) in Ligue 1. He played a key role in Lyon’s dominance in French football, winning multiple league titles.

In 2005, Essien made a high-profile move to Chelsea FC in the English Premier League for a then-club record fee.

He became a vital part of Chelsea’s midfield, known for his athleticism, versatility, and powerful playing style.

Essien won multiple domestic and international titles during his time with Chelsea, including the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.

Essien had a loan spell with Real Madrid during the 2012-2013 season, where he reunited with his former Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho.

After leaving Chelsea, Essien joined AC Milan in Serie A for the 2014-2015 season. He had brief stints with Panathinaikos in Greece and Indonesian club Persib Bandung before retiring from professional football.

Essien represented the Ghana national team, earning caps in multiple Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and FIFA World Cup tournaments. He played a crucial role in Ghana’s run to the 2010 FIFA World Cup quarterfinals.

After retiring from professional football, Essien has been involved in various activities, including coaching and ambassadorial roles.

Michael Essien is widely regarded as one of Ghana’s greatest football exports and had a successful career at top clubs in Europe.

Video of altercation at Black Stars’ hotel after defeat to Cape Verde

It was earlier reported that a member of the Ghanaian supporters in Abidjan has been arrested for an attack on Ghana’s head coach, Chris Hughton at the team’s hotel.

This is said to have taken place after Cape Verde secured a dramatic victory over Ghana with a late goal by substitute Gary Rodrigues in the opening match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has however denied allegations that Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton was physically assaulted by an upset fan after Ghana’s loss to Cape Verde in its opening AFCON game.

GFA clarified that the alleged incident was exaggerated and blown out of proportion.

“The fan only expressed his displeasure over the outcome of the result and told the coach or leave the job. There was no physical confrontation and certainly no arrest was made,” Citinews wrote.

The defeat leaves Ghana with a challenging task ahead, as they now look to bounce back against Egypt in their next match on January 18.

Following Ghana’s 2-1 defeat, reports on social media suggested that Hughton had been physically assaulted and that it took the intervention of diplomats to defuse the situation.

However, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) clarified that the alleged incident was exaggerated and blown out of proportion.

A staunch Ghanaian football supporter is currently not happy with Black Stars star Mohammed Kudus.

According to him, Kudus now prefers to play for West Ham, instead of his country, Ghana.

He made the comment after the arrival of Kudus, who was in the company of an official of West Ham, during his arrival at Ghana’s training camp for the 2024 tournament.

The midfielder picked up a strain whiles on duty for his club side West Ham United and needed to take sometime off training

The West Ham official is currently monitoring his recovery, but the football fanatic says he fails to understand why Kudus had to come along with a West Ham official.

He registered his displeasure while communicating that he was not expecting any remarkable performance from the senior national team at the 2023 AFCON tournament due to failed attempts in previous years.

“Kudus Mohammed is our star player but he prefers to play for West Ham than Ghana. He came just three days ago and what pains me is that, when he was coming with staff of West Ham. Really, for what reason. Look at him, he is on the bench. So our team, I’m supporting them because I’m a Ghanaian. We are not expecting anything. If we are able to make it, halleluyah,” he said.

Kudus has been in the good books of West Ham due to his impressive skills, which have led to some victories. Ahead of the 2023 AFCON, fans of West Ham were adamant in letting go of Kudus for the tournament.

I’m just a soul whose intentions are good, don’t let me be misunderstood – Freezy Macbones’ underlying romantic message to Delay

Ghanaian boxer Seth Gyimah, popularly known as Freezy Macbones, is set on capturing the heart of Ghanaian presenter, Delay, after publicly proposing marriage to her on live TV.

Freezy Macbones, who blushed throughout the interview, noted that Delay is his dream woman; hence, he won’t hesitate to put a ring on her finger if given the chance.

Since this interview, Freezy has been updating his X page with photos and videos taken with Delay. The most intriguing is a video in which he is sighted sipping tea with the maiden in a ‘romantic’ ambience.

It is unknown the words that were communicated during their conversation, but the background music accompanying the video suggests the intentions of Freezy.

In the video in question, Freezy borrows the musical work of Nina Simone: “Don’t let me be misunderstood.”

The lyrics express a plea for understanding and empathy. The singer is asking not to be misunderstood, emphasizing that their intentions are good despite any appearances or misunderstandings.

The surmise based on the evidence gathered is that Freezy says his intentions are positive and genuine.

The lyrics to Don’t let me be misunderstood say:

    Baby, you understand me now?
If sometimes you see that I’m mad
Don’tcha know that no one alive can always be an angel?
When everything goes wrong, you see some bad

But oh, I’m just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don’t let me be misunderstood

You know sometimes, baby I’m so carefree
Oh, with a joy that’s hard to hide
And then sometimes again it seems that all I have is worry
And then you’re bound to see my other side

But I’m just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don’t let me be misunderstood

    If I seem edgy
    I want you to know
I never mean to take it out on you
    Life has its problems
And I get more than my share
But that’s me one thing I never mean to do
    ‘Cause I love you

    Oh, baby, I’m just human
Don’t you know I have faults like anyone?
Sometimes I find myself alone regretting some little foolish thing
Some simple thing that I’ve done

‘Cause I’m just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don’t let me be misunderstood
    Don’t let me be misunderstood

I try so hard so please don’t let me be misunderstood
    No, no, no, please.

AFCON 2023: I’m only supporting Black Stars because I am a Ghanaian, we are not expecting anything big – ‘Hopeless’ fanatic

A Ghanaian football fanatic has indicated that he is not clinging to the hopes of Ghana making any significant display in the ongoing 2023 AFCON tournament.

According to him, he now supports the senior national team because he is a Ghanaian and it is patriotic to do so.

His hopes for the Black Stars have dwindled due to their lack of impressive performances at subsequent tournaments.

“I started watching Cup of Nations from the year 2000. In 2000, Ghana and Nigeria hosted it and at quarter finals stage, we were knocked out. 2002, I think we were in Mali. We were knocked out. In 2004, we couldn’t qualify. 2006, we were in Egypt, we couldn’t even make it out of group stages.

In 2008, we were in Ghana. We were third. In 2010, Angloa, finals, we couldn’t take it. I think in 2012, we were knocked out by Zambia.

In 2013, we were in South Africa. We couldn’t do anything. In 2015, we went to the finals beaten by La Cote Divoire on penalty. In 2017, Equatorial Guinea, we couldn’t do anything. 2019, nothing.

2021, we wouldn’t make it out of the group stages, and we are here. So I am not expecting anything big from our team.. We can only pray and hope that the players will do well,” he said.

He further bemoans the absence of “big players” such as John Paintsil, John Mensah, Issah Ahmed, Michael Essien, Stephen Appiah, Sulley Muntari, Laryea Kingston.”

He also criticised Mohammed Kudus for showing up with staff of West Ham. According to him, Kudus has decided to pick West Ham.

“Kudus Mohammed is our star player but he prefers to play for West Ham than Ghana. He came just three days ago and what pains me is that when he was coming with staff of West Ham. Really, for what reason? Look at him; he is on the bench. So our team, I’m supporting them because I’m a Ghanaian. We are not expecting anything. If we are able to make it, halleluyah.”

Nonetheless, he notes that he will jubilate should the team surprise him and advance to significant stages of the competition.

Deputy Energy Minister Andrew Egyapa Mercer has taken a swipe at the National Democratic Congress (NDC), indicating that their celebration over the intermittent electricity supply crisis ‘dumsor’ has been premature.

Certain areas in Accra have been facing intermittent power supply, and some regions have been dealing with similar issues for months. The challenges with power supply have led to disruptions and inconveniences for residents in these affected areas.

In an interview on Peace FM, the minister noted that recent power outages have been resolved despite the many ‘exaggerated’ concerns raised by individuals from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“Their jubilation has been short-lived. You’d be there then my brother, Jinapor would issue a statement. Dumsor is back, I am saddened,” the deputy minister said.

He mentioned that a significant disbursement of $10 million has been made to the West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) for gas supply, contributing to the resolution of the issues causing power disruptions.

But according to the Ranking Member on the Mines and Energy Committee, John Jinapor, employees of the West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAGPCo) are considering not opening the pipeline until they receive their payment.

“I actually spoke to the WAGPCo workers and they told me that upon the government’s payment, they would be willing to open the pipeline” he told Osei Bonsu on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme.

Lack of experience caused our defeat to Cape Verde – Jordan Ayew

Jordan Ayew has attributed Ghana’s defeat to Cape Verde in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations to a “lack of experience” in the team.

The Black Stars, with a squad featuring 19 players making their AFCON debut, suffered a 2-1 loss to the Blue Sharks.

Ayew suggests that the team’s inexperience played a role in the disappointing performance in their opening game of the tournament.

“We lack a lot of experience…,” the Crystal Palace forward said.

“At the end of the day, if you look at the squad that we have, more than 10 [players], this is their first AFCON so this type of mistakes will happen and we need to learn and we need to learn quick because the AFCON is not waiting for anyone…we need to stand up and face the reality.”

Ghana will face Egypt in their next game, and both teams are eager for a win following their respective outcomes in the opening matches of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

After drawing with Mozambique, Egypt is also looking to secure a victory. Cape Verde currently leads Group B, while Ghana finds itself at the bottom of the standings after the initial round of games.

The win elevated City to second place in the Premier League table.

Mark it on the wall, NPP will beat NDC come 2024 elections – Chieftaincy Minister

Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, is absolutely confident about the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) retaining power for another 4-year team to break the 8-year-term jinx.

According to Mr Boateng, the NPP and its flagbearer, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, will beat the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama in the 2024 elections.

In an interview on Hello FM, he said “They are building castles in the air. This election, NDC will lose. Mark it on the wall, we will beat them.”

He added “They have this claim that they will win when we are in the political arena. Let them keep building castles in the air.”

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, on the other hand, has expressed his unwavering confidence in winning the upcoming December elections. He stated that there would be no need to contest the results in the Supreme Court.

Instead of relying on legal battles, Mahama underscored the importance of vigilance and collective effort within the party to secure victory.

During his “Building the Ghana We Want Tour” in Dzodze, Volta Region, he addressed party supporters, outlining his vision for a free and fair electoral process and encouraged the party to be vigilant and work together to achieve victory.

“I’m not going to the Supreme Court because I know I’m not going to lose, maybe that person will be going to the Supreme Court. The election is going to be decided at the polling station and the coalition centre and that’s where the NDC is going to be,” he said.

Beware if it “seems too good” – Cyber Security Authority warns Ghanaians against job scams

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has issued an alert regarding a significant increase in job scam incidents across the country.

In a public statement, the CSA revealed that it has received at least 15 reports through cybercrime/cybersecurity incident reporting points of contact, with victims losing over GH₵124,000.

The CSA warned citizens to be cautious of unsolicited messages offering job opportunities, as scammers often pose as recruiters to deceive unsuspecting individuals.

Additionally, people are advised to be skeptical of advertisements promising high-paying jobs that require minimal work.

“If it seems too good to be true, it’s likely a scam,” the CSA stated.

The Cyber Security Authority emphasized that poor grammar, spelling mistakes, or unprofessional communication in job advertisements are red flags indicating that the advertisement may not be genuine and should be ignored.

Job-seekers are encouraged to verify job advertisements directly with the company’s official website or contact information to ensure their legitimacy.

“Avoid relying solely on communication through email or instant messaging.”

Also, job-seekers have been advised against sharing personal or financial information unless they are certain of the legitimacy of the prospective employer.

  • Honour your promise, provide us a functioning airport – Upper East chiefs tell Akufo-Addo

Honour your promise, provide us a functioning airport – Upper East chiefs tell Akufo-Addo

The chiefs and people of the Upper East Region reminded President Akufo-Addo of his promise to construct an airport in the region.

The paramount chief of the Sekote traditional area, Naba Sigri Bewong, during a durbar, stated that the president made this commitment during the run-up to the 2016 elections, specifically at the Sumbrungu chief’s palace.

The chiefs emphasized that President Akufo-Addo reiterated this promise while launching the One-Village-One-Dam project in the Bongo district.

“Having been elected as president and almost ending his second term, we would like to also make a passionate appeal to him to, as a matter of urgency, honour his promise by pooling resources to continue and complete this partly developed site into a functioning airport,” he stated.

Naba Bewong, the paramount chief of the Sekote traditional area, highlighted the spirit of development and patriotic nationalism among the people of the Upper East region.

He mentioned that, in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the people willingly released 7051.44 acres or 2,8853.72 hectares of land in the Sumbrungu community to the government for the development of an airport.

However, despite this contribution, the Upper East region remains the only one among the original ten regions without a functional airport or concrete plans for development. Naba Bewong expressed disappointment, stating that successive governments have lacked the political and financial will to construct the promised airport.

“This development is something the community finds very unfortunate given the level of destruction to economic trees and arable land that have taken place at the site, as well as the series of promises made by various governments to the good people of Sumbrungu in particular and the Upper East Region in general.”

The people of the Upper East region emphasized the necessity of constructing an airport in the area to catalyze investment and propel the country’s development.

The region boasts the discovery of gold, oil, industrial clay, and other minerals in commercial quantities. The durbar held at the proposed airport site featured cultural performances and traditional dances, symbolizing the region’s eagerness for the realization of the promised airport project.

Gabriel Agambila, Chairman of the Upper East Airport Development Committee, highlighted the challenges faced by travelers due to the absence of an airport in the region.

“Every time our people need to catch a flight, they have to embark on long and stressful road journeys to Tamale. This not only adds to the inconvenience but also places our citizens at risk of armed robbery attacks, particularly during late-night travel to catch early morning flights.”

Stephen Yakubu, the Upper East regional minister, commended the chiefs, Tindaamas, and people of the region for the concerted effort to advocate for the construction of an airport in the region.

He said he is engaging with the government and investors to see to it that an airport is constructed in the region.

He, therefore, charged the 15 MPs of the region to back the people of the region in realizing the airport dream.

The over 9,000 teachers who did not meet the required threshold in the 2023 Teacher Licensure Exams have been given an opportunity to retake the exams in March of the same year.

Out of the 20,181 teachers who took the 2023 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) 2&3, a notable proportion of 9,556, which is over 30%, did not meet the required pass mark.

Registrar of the National Teaching Council, Dr. Christian Addea Poku, emphasized the Council’s dedication to ensuring that only qualified teachers are placed in classrooms.

“People have been talking about the fact that we failed people because there is no vacancy for the Ministry of Education or the Ghana Education Service to employ them, but for us at the National Teaching Council, we don’t regulate and license only public school teachers. So, we expect that when people go through the system and they get licensed, some of them may get absorbed by the Ministry of Education or the Ghana Education Service,” he said.

The decision to provide a second chance for these teachers reflects the commitment to maintaining high standards in the education sector.

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has appointed Carruthers Tetteh as its first visually impaired lecturer at the Faculty of Law.

The appointment, effective December 2023, sees Mr. Tetteh teaching Criminal Law and the Ghana Legal System. Despite losing his sight at the age of 11 due to a drug reaction, Carruthers Tetteh remained steadfast in his pursuit of a career in law.

He added, “So in September 2002, when I was admitted to the Akropong School for the Blind, it dawned on me that life had really taken a different turn because I am now going to be in the midst of people who are blind.”

On his first appearance in class, he won the hearts of the level 300s with his knowledge of Criminal Law.

He said, “Reading Law has always been my interest from childhood. I always wanted to be in a position to advocate for the less privileged. So that has been driving my interest throughout my life.”

He added, “At the Law Faculty, I also went all out to give out my best to set the right pace, knowing very well that I was the first student with Visual Impairment to be admitted to the Law Faculty in UCC.”

“Someone has got to speak sense into this guy’s head” – Saddick Adams fumes over Black Stars security staff member’s ‘unprofessionalism’

An incident involving Aziz, an intelligent security staff member for the Black Stars, has sparked accusations of unprofessional behavior while carrying out his duties.

In a video posted on the X platform by @Oscarnuwati, Aziz is observed poking the head of an individual presumed to be a journalist. The dissatisfaction stemmed from the individual persistently recording despite explicit instructions not to do so.

“How many times I’ve stopped you. I say stop it. You want me to spoil your phone, or you walk out,” an angry Aziz said.

Per his statement, it indicates that the journalist has been warned several times against recording but pays no heed.

Reacting to the video, sports journalist, Saddick Adams, condemned Aziz’s actions, noting that there was no need for the display of aggression. He deemed the circumstance as not extreme to warrant such a response.

According to Saddick, such actions will only intensify the resentment the public has for the senior national team and other relevant stakeholders.

He wrote on X platform, “Someone has got to speak sense into this guy’s head that unless under extreme circumstances, the display of useless aggression around this team and especially in the full glare of cameras will only intensify the hatred and apathy for the team and everyone around it.”

“If he was an intelligent security enough, how did all the people gain access in the first place. The national team was formed by Ohene Djan and co. They have all left it,” he added.

40% of employees to lose their jobs to AI – IMF

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has reported that almost 40.0% of global employment is exposed to Artificial Intelligence (AI), according to its recent analysis.

Unlike previous technological shifts, AI has the potential to impact high-skilled jobs as well. The IMF notes that advanced economies face both greater risks and opportunities from AI compared to emerging market and developing economies.

In advanced economies, around 60% of jobs may be impacted by AI, with roughly half benefiting from its integration to enhance productivity.

The other half, however, may see lower labor demand, leading to reduced wages and hiring.

In contrast, emerging markets and low-income countries have lower immediate disruptions from AI, but they may lack the infrastructure and skilled workforces to harness its benefits, potentially exacerbating global inequality over time.

2023 AFCON: Nigeria vs Equatorial Guinea game ends in stalemate

Nigeria narrowly avoided a shock defeat in their opening game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) against Equatorial Guinea as Victor Osimhen’s quick response secured a 1-1 draw.

Equatorial Guinea took a surprising lead with Iban Salvador’s classy first-half finish, their only shot on target. Osimhen promptly equalized by heading in Ademola Lookman’s cross right after the underdogs’ opener.

Despite Equatorial Guinea being 46 places below Nigeria in world rankings, they celebrated their lead jubilantly. However, Osimhen’s goal and some crucial saves from goalkeeper Jesus Owono ensured a hard-fought draw for both teams.

The result leaves Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea two points behind Ivory Coast in Group A, with the latter securing a 2-0 win over Guinea-Bissau in the tournament opener. Nigeria will face Ivory Coast in their next match, while Equatorial Guinea will take on Guinea-Bissau.

Man arrested for attacking Chris Hughton after Ghana’s defeat to Cape Verde

A member of the Ghanaian supporters in Abidjan has been arrested for an attack on coach Chris Hughton at the team’s hotel, according to reports from sports journalist, Saddick Adams.

It is believed that the attack on Mr Hughton took place after Ghana’s defeat to Cape Verde on Sunday during the 2023 AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast.

In a post on X, Saddick noted that it took the intervention of some Ghanaian diplomats who were around to save the coach.

Meanwhile, the unidentified man is said to have been handed over to the Ivorian Police.

In the opening match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Cape Verde secured a dramatic victory over Ghana with a late goal by substitute Gary Rodrigues.

The match, initially balanced, took an unexpected turn as Jameiro Monteiro capitalized on a rebound after 17 minutes, putting Cape Verde in the lead with a 1-0 advantage.

Despite the early setback, Ghana pressed forward, and Majeed Ashimeru thought he had equalized with a brilliant strike, only for the goal to be disallowed for offside, as Ransford-Yeboah was deemed to have interfered with the goalkeeper’s line of sight.

Gary Rodrigues makes Cape Verde shine

Trailing at halftime, Ghana made a strong comeback in the second half, with Fenerbahce’s central defender Djiku leveling the score from a Jordan Ayew corner. Djiku’s heroics continued with two crucial goal-saving clearances that kept the Black Stars in the game.

However, Cape Verde capitalized on a moment of defensive lapses from Ghana, as Gary Rodrigues scored in added time to seal a 2-1 victory for the Blue Sharks. Despite goalkeeper Richard Ofori’s efforts in the final 10 minutes, Ghana couldn’t overturn the deficit.

The defeat leaves Ghana with a challenging task ahead, as they now look to bounce back against Egypt in their next match on January 18.

Madrid see Spanish Super Cup glory against Barcelona

Vinicius Junior’s first-half hat-trick propelled Real Madrid to a convincing 4-1 victory over 10-man Barcelona in the Riyadh final of the Spanish Super Cup.

The Brazilian forward exploited Barcelona’s defensive vulnerabilities to score twice within the first 10 minutes, while Robert Lewandowski pulled one back for Barcelona after the half-hour mark.

However, Vinicius completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot in the 39th minute, and Rodrygo sealed the win after the interval.

Barcelona’s woes continued as Ronald Araujo received a red card in the 71st minute for a foul on Vinicius. Real Madrid, under Carlo Ancelotti, maintained their recent dominance over Barcelona, having already won the October El Clasico.

The victory in the Spanish Super Cup final extended Real’s lead over Barcelona by seven points in the LaLiga standings at the halfway point of the season.

The match saw Barcelona attempting a high defensive line, which backfired as Vinicius capitalized on the space left behind, rounding the goalkeeper for his first goal.

Barcelona responded with chances, including a Ferran Torres shot hitting the crossbar and Lewandowski’s thunderous volley. However, Real’s Vinicius exploited defensive lapses again, drawing a foul from Araujo that led to a penalty and his third goal.

Xavi’s triple substitution for Barcelona did not alter the outcome, and Rodrygo’s goal in the 64th minute extended Real’s lead.

The match ended on a low note for Barcelona as Araujo received a second yellow card for a foul on Vinicius. Ancelotti’s side now turns its attention to the Copa del Rey showdown against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.

All those in need of Atta-Mills’ autopsy should go to 37 Military Hospital – Cadman Mills

Brother of the late president of Ghana, John Evans Atta-Mills, has responded to renewed requests from certain relatives of the late president seeking his autopsy report.
