  • NHS Wales emails from Covid era accidentally deleted

NHS Wales emails from Covid era accidentally deleted

Accidental deletions have occurred involving Welsh NHS emails that were important evidence for the Covid inquiry.

Accounts that are not being used by NHS Wales employees who either no longer work there or have changed jobs have been deleted.

Plaid Cymru became worried when they heard the news. They were concerned that important information about how Wales is responding to the pandemic might never be made public.

An IT organization in the NHS stated that they are working to get back the data.

We don’t know how many email addresses were affected by the issue. The problem happened because of a wrong setting that decides when emails get erased.

The problem came up in a meeting of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, as part of their involvement in the Covid inquiry.

The health board said that all health boards were affected by the problem.

The document said that the IT organization called Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW) found a problem with “inactive account mailboxes”.

The text says that because rules for keeping things were not followed correctly, some email accounts for people who don’t work for NHS Wales anymore or who changed jobs have been deleted. This means that their information can’t be found and used as evidence.

The paper said the problem was completely resolved in March 2023 and will not happen again. However, it stated that it does impact certain evidence that we (and all health boards) would have been able to give to the investigation.

A group called DHCW, created in 2021 to make technology better in the Welsh NHS, said they are trying to fix a problem of deleted emails. They are looking in other mailboxes to find the emails that were sent or received by the person whose emails got deleted. This will help hospitals and trusts with any investigations or questions.

DHCW informed the Covid inquiry that they had found a problem with inactive user accounts. They have now made a solution to this problem and will follow a standard policy of keeping emails for seven years.

In a letter to the Labour health minister Eluned Morgan, Mabon ap Gwynfor from Plaid Cymru stated that it is important to learn from this unfortunate mistake as soon as possible.

He is asking for an official statement about the issue at the Senedd. He said that important information about the pandemic response in Wales might not be made public.

He said Plaid believed that only a complete, Wales-focused investigation can give the Welsh people, especially those who lost family members, the answers and resolution they truly deserve.

The Welsh government was asked to comment on their decision to support the UK-wide inquiry instead of conducting a separate inquiry just for Wales.

A tiler and a carpenter sentenced to 8 years for stealing mobile phones

A tiler and a carpenter who stole mobile phones and were caught on closed-circuit television (CCTV) were each sentenced to eight years in prison and hard labour by an Asokwa Circuit Court.

Prince Agyemang, 24, and Daniel Awunyo, 23, initially denied conspiring to steal and breaking into Augustine Akosah and Marcellus Marbell’s room without permission to steal their various cell phones, which were worth GHC18,200.00. However, they later admitted to the offences.

They acknowledged themselves in the CCTV footage of their act when it was played in open court at that point.

After a trial, they were found guilty and received the appropriate punishment.

Two of their accomplices are still at large in the interim.

The complainants were student nurses and residents of Atonsu-Kuwait, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Stephen Ofori informed the court presided over by Mr. Fred Obikyere.

Agyemang and Awunyo, the prisoners, he claimed, worked as tilers and carpenters, respectively, and lived in the Atonsu S-Line. On April 11, 2023, at about 23:55 hours, the convicts conspired to steal from the complainants’ house at Atonsu-Kuwait.

As a result, while the complainants were sound asleep, they climbed the fence wall leading to their home and entered the property, according to the prosecution.

According to ASP Ofori, the inmates forced open the complainants’ sliding windows and used a mob stick covered in glue to pick their iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, iPhone 11, iPhone 14, and Nokia keypad phone.

The court was informed that additional items taken through the windows included a Samsung tablet and an unknown quantity of clothing.

The prosecution claims that Agyemang and Awunyo then made calls to their accomplices Dela and Rebel of Sokoban and Sawuah, respectively, to take the stolen cell phones for decoding.

According to ASP Ofori, the complainants filed a report at the Dompoase Police Station, and during the course of the investigation, the complainants provided police with the CCTV footage from their residence on the day of the incident because the activities of the convicts and their accomplices were recorded by the CCTV cameras.

This led to their capture at their hiding places at Atonsu S-Line, where the following items were recovered from them: iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, Nokia keypad mobile phone, Samsung tablet.

He said that the defendants admitted to the crimes in their cautioned statements and that the police had charged them with crimes based on the available evidence.

The complainants’ cell phones were being sought after, and the court was informed that efforts were being made to capture their collaborators.

  • Cyprus police detain 21 persons after an attempt to harm Syrian migrants by protestors

Cyprus police detain 21 persons after an attempt to harm Syrian migrants by protestors

The police in Cyprus have apprehended 21 individuals and had to use tear gas and a water cannon. This was in response to a group of Greek Cypriots, who were wearing hoods and holding baseball bats, attempting to attack Syrian protesters in a small village. This village has experienced a lot of tension between its residents and migrants.

On Tuesday, the police reported that two groups of people, around 250 Syrians and 250 Greek Cypriots, held protests in the village of Chloraka on Monday evening. Unfortunately, the protests turned violent when a small number of people from each group started to set fire to trash bins and a fence of a building.

The special police team kept the two groups apart during the riot. However, one officer got badly burned on his hand by a homemade bomb thrown by the rioters.

A police spokesman named Christos Andreou said on Tuesday that the fights started when some Greek Cypriots tried to attack the migrants. He said that nine people from Greece living in Cyprus and twelve people who moved to Cyprus from another country were captured by the authorities.

They are being accused of having weapons and causing violence.

On Monday night, there were fights after a violent incident the day before. Two migrants and a Greek Cypriot man were taken by authorities after hundreds of people from Chloraka marched in protest against the increasing number of migrants who have moved to their village in the past few years. The residents feel that their village has become like a ghetto because of this.

Andreou said that the protest became violent when some smaller groups of demonstrators went on a rampage in the village. They supposedly attacked a migrant, caused damage to a restaurant owned by a migrant, and flipped over a car.

On Sunday, there was a protest because the police cleared out an empty apartment building in Chloraka to remove many migrants who were living there without permission. The police did many raids in the village over the past three years because a court said that no more asylum seekers or people with international protection could live there.

The next day, migrants held their own protest because they believed that they were not being treated fairly by the authorities and locals. They were also upset about the damage done to their property. Justice Minister Anna Koukkides-Procopiou and Police Chief Stelios Papatheodorou were present to meet a group of migrant people and listen to their complaints in order to calm down the situation.

Andreou, who spoke to a TV station called Sigma, said that a man from Syria was arrested because he is being looked into for potentially encouraging people to be violent on social media.

The President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, strongly criticized the events, saying that violence doesn’t solve anything and only leads to more violence.

Christodoulides wants the police chief and the justice minister to talk to the Chloraka municipal authorities and the Syrian migrants to make sure everyone is safe. The security and well-being of the people is very important and cannot be compromised.

He also tried to calm the worries of the people living in Chloraka. He said that his government is still focusing on dealing with the large number of migrants coming to Cyprus. He mentioned that they have already taken steps that have cut the number of people coming and applying for asylum in half.

The Cyprus Republic is a member of the United Nations and European Union. We are willing to follow our obligations to the international community. However, we will not accept anyone who uses our country as a good place for illegal migration.

  • Contradictions as Ken’s campaign manager, agent tell different tale about IGP Dampare

Contradictions as Ken’s campaign manager, agent tell different tale about IGP Dampare

Conflicting narratives have surfaced regarding the perceptions of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare, as recounted by key figures in Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team.

The campaign manager and an agent for Ken Agyapong, flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have offered contrasting accounts about what ensued between the IGP and the agent.

Addressing the media during a press conference convened in the aftermath of the Super Delegates Conference held on August 26, 2023, Humu Dilley Saeed, the agent, detailed a concerning incident involving the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

According to her account, the IGP was reportedly seen raising his voice towards her after she reported a chaotic incident that had erupted at the electoral center. Promptly responding to the situation, Humu Dilley Saeed communicated the incident to both her immediate supervisor and the IGP himself.

However, she asserted that the IGP had directed his voice at her in a raised manner. Subsequently, a warning was conveyed through the campaign manager, cautioning her that unless she exercised caution, she could potentially face legal repercussions and be confined to a prison cell.

On the contrary, the campaign manager extended commendation towards the IGP and clarified that the actions of the IGP were notably beneficial throughout the proceedings. The campaign manager emphasized that the IGP’s conduct was geared towards enhancing the integrity of the process and ensuring its smooth progression.

  • Chinese export restrictions rejected by the US commerce secretary

Chinese export restrictions rejected by the US commerce secretary

Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo announced on Tuesday that she turned down China’s request to reduce the quantity of goods and services sold by the United States to them. The two governments have rules about controlling the export of technology that could be used for military purposes. However, they have agreed to have experts meet and talk about disagreements related to keeping trade secrets safe.

During a recent visit to improve icy relations, Raimondo said she expressed concerns to Chinese officials, including the country’s top leader. Technology companies are businesses that focus on creating and selling products or services related to technology. She said that the situation for foreign companies is getting more difficult because of a new law against spying and government investigations on consulting companies.

Raimondo, along with other American officials including Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, visited Beijing in the last three months. They are trying to fix their relationships, which are currently at their worst point in many years because of disagreements over technology, security, Taiwan, and other problems.

A major issue for China is that they are not able to easily get computer chips and other technology from the United States. Technology for security reasons. This could make it difficult for the ruling Communist Party to achieve its goal of developing artificial intelligence and other industries. The regulations severely affected the smartphone business of Huawei Technologies Ltd. , China’s well-known global technology company.

Their request was to lessen the restrictions on technology that could potentially be used for military purposes, and to cancel an order issued by President Joe Biden that limits the United States. Raimondo said that investing in Chinese companies that may be connected to military development.

“Of course, I refused,” Raimondo said. “We don’t discuss or make deals about things that could harm our country’s safety. ”

The two governments agreed on Monday to share information about the United States. Export controls are regulations and procedures put in place by governments to monitor and limit the exportation of certain goods, technologies, or intellectual property, in order to protect national security, public health, or prevent the proliferation of weapons. Raimondo said that Washington wants people to follow the rules more.

Meanwhile, the two governments agreed to have experts meet to “begin to solve problems with sharing private business information,” Raimondo said.

“She said that one of the main things business people talk about all the time is keeping their trade secrets safe. ”

Before, Raimondo had a meeting with Premier Li. Premier Li requested that Washington take real steps to improve relations, referring to China’s desire for changes in the U. S The policy about Taiwan, technology, and other topics.

We hope that the United States Li said that our side will work together with the Chinese side, being honest and taking real actions.

Raimondo said that the meeting, which the American Embassy previously mentioned would only be a short and polite visit, actually lasted for one hour and fifteen minutes.

The leader of China, Xi Jinping, is working to make people more interested in investing in China and to make foreign companies feel safe. He is doing this to improve the country’s economy, which has been doing poorly. Raimondo said that she didn’t talk about the Chinese economy during her meetings, and she didn’t feel that her Chinese colleagues were motivated by the economic decline.

In August 2020, Beijing stopped talking to Washington about military, climate, and other matters because they were upset about a visit from former U. S Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The Taiwanese House of Representatives. The Communist Party says that the self-governed island democracy is part of its land.

Relations between the two countries were already not good because of a trade war started by former President Donald Trump. He was unhappy with how Beijing was developing its industries. China’s trading partners say that China protects its new industries from competition, even though they promised to have open markets. They also say that China takes technology from foreign companies by either stealing it or putting pressure on them to give it up.

Foreign companies are facing worse conditions because of a law designed to prevent spying. This law has been expanded and now some companies are unsure about what kind of information they are allowed to collect from consumers and others. A company called Mintz Group got in trouble and had to pay $1. 5 million because it collected data in a wrong and improper way.

Raimondo mentioned that American companies told her that they are encountering a higher difficulty level in China. She mentioned that she had talked to about 120 to 150 CEOs and labor leaders on the phone to get ready for her trip.

Raimondo said we need that problem to be solved. “Each of those things can be dealt with to demonstrate action. ”

Raimondo mentioned that she also pushed Chinese leaders to share more details about limitations on American imports. The woman mentioned that technology companies seemed random and hard to predict, but she didn’t get any promises from them.

This year, Beijing told companies that make equipment handling sensitive information to stop using products from the largest American company. Micron Inc, which creates memory chips. It said the American company did not pass a security check, but did not provide any specifics, which led to ideas that the ban was done to get back at the U. S Restrictions on the use of technology.

Raimondo said the mood of her meetings was good, but she was aware that it would be hard to restart official conversations and achieve desired outcomes.

Raimondo said that we will wait and see if any action will be taken.

“She said we had a lot of honest conversation. ” “I want this to be the time when we begin to see things actually happening. ”

Chinese state media have portrayed the American visitors in a good light. But, Beijing has not shown any sign of changing its trade, strategic, and other policies that are creating tension with Washington, Europe, and its Asian neighbors.

On Tuesday, both parties had positive conversations about artificial intelligence regarding safety measures.

She said that the world wants our two countries to work together. “That was met with some openness. ”

The visits happen because Xi and Biden made a deal when they met in Indonesia last November.

Raimondo also met with Vice Premier He Lifeng, who is responsible for economic relations with Washington. He expressed optimism about having detailed conversations with Janet Yellen, the US Treasury Secretary, in July.

“I’m prepared to work together with you on that, to make new positive efforts to strengthen our agreement and expand our collaboration,” He told Raimondo.

Raimondo supported the plan of the Biden administration to make high-tech manufacturing safer in the US and find more places to get industrial supplies from to prevent problems. Beijing has said that this could be an effort to separate China and slow down its progress.

Raimondo told He that although we will always prioritize national security, we don’t want to separate or hinder China’s economy.

Raimondo said that she and Commerce Minister Wang Wentao had a two-hour lunch meeting on Monday. They agreed to have informal and frequent conversations to improve trade relations.

Raimondo said that she and Wang agreed to meet once a year and their deputies would meet twice a year as part of an agreement to form a group to talk about other business matters.

It won’t fix all our problems. When we talk, it doesn’t mean I’m going to give in or agree,” Raimondo said. “It means we have a chance to make fewer mistakes and exchange information. ”

Officials have decided to organize a meeting in early 2024 to discuss and plan ways to boost tourism between the two countries. This comes after China lifted its restrictions on travel due to the pandemic. The meeting aims to find ways to revive and promote tourism.

Chinese officials have agreed to start allowing big groups of tourists from China to visit the United States again, said Raimondo.

My name will exist in Ghana even when I am dead and gone -Patapaa

Ghanaian artiste, Patapaa is confident that his name will forever remain relevant in the music scene.

In an interview with Property FM in Cape Coast, the ‘One Corner’ hitmaker said his name will exist in Ghana even when he’s dead and gone.

“The kind of destiny that I came with is quite unique and let me say categorically that my name will never fade away in Ghana,” he told Amansan Krakye.

He continued “I will forever remain relevant in the Ghanaian music scene and even when I’m dead and gone my name will continue to live on.

“The name Patapaa was already existing before I adopted it and that doesn’t mean that I’m a disruptive person who is known for causing confusion.

“The whole country even the dress I put up to the Ghana Music Awards has more fans and is known widely than some of the musicians in the industry,” he ended.

The “One Corner” hitmaker responded to trolls who claim his career is over by asserting that he is more well-known nationwide than those doing the online troll-ing.

According to him, those who despise him and want to be just like him are the ones who say that his career is over.

“When I see people trolling me on social media I laugh at them because I’m well known and more popular than those claiming my career is dead,” he said on Property FM in Cape Coast.

He added; “Let them continue to write and let them say because those saying that my career is dead are people who wish to become like me.

“But they will never get it because those who think they’re bigger than me are not even known anywhere despite their constant trolls on social media.

  • Kennedy Agyapong’s agent recounts how she started commotion at voting center

Kennedy Agyapong’s agent recounts how she started commotion at voting center

The North East regional agent of Assin Central MP and flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong has narrated what happened on the grounds while she supervised the elections.

Humu Dilley Saeed, at a press conference she explained that she found herself at the epicenter of a heated controversy that sent shock waves through the electoral process.

What began as a mission to ensure a fair and transparent election quickly escalated into a scene of commotion and chaos, and she narrated that she had to flee for fear of her life.

Recounting the incident, she noted that:”I was in the North East to represent Ken. Prior to the elections, we were given orientation and in the orientation we were told that the elections should not be held at an enclosed place. Secondly, we were told that no party official, MP or Minister should be a polling agent or sighted inside the election ground and these reforms were introduced when the nine aspirants went to request for the elections to be held at one place and that request was not granted. ‘

Elections started smoothly, however, she observed some inconsistencies which she drew the attention of the police to.

“While observing the atmosphere in the room, I realised that it wasn’t good. Why do I say so? 1. We were supposed to vote at an open space however, where the election was being held was an enclosed area, which was the dining hall of Nalerigu Senior High School. Secondly, there were too many people in the hall, even more than the number of delegates. This was certainly against the rules and it wasn’t appropriate that they were in the room at that time. There  were also some Tescon guys in the room. So after supervising all of these, I reported the incident to the Regional Commander,” she recalled.

“But he told me these are all your party members. So after speaking to the police officer, another officer came around and I made the same complaint, requesting for the right thing to be done, but to my surprise, all the complaints were ignored with claims that all those in the room were party members,” she added.

She noted that, in the course of the elections, chaos emanated due to one of the delegates conducting himself in a manner that was against the rules of the elections.

Humu observed that the mentioned delegate cast his vote and immediately raised his ballot, triggering a sudden wave of chaos among the assembled crowd. Amidst the turmoil that ensued, she decided to leave the hall in an attempt to distance herself from the escalating situation. However, her efforts were thwarted when she discovered that the exit point had been securely locked, a discovery that fueled her growing sense of suspicion.

As she endeavored to exit, Humu exerted pressure on the door, only to be alerted by a stationed police officer that the door was indeed locked. Undeterred, she mustered her strength and determinedly pushed against the door until it relented, swinging open with a reluctant creak. Fuelled by her mounting suspicions of potential malpractice, she made the resolute choice to sound the alarm.

Nonetheless, her endeavors did not go unnoticed by rival candidates’ agents present at the scene. As they perceived her actions as a challenge, a group of them started pursuing her. Caught in the intensity of the moment, she quickly found refuge by seating herself on a nearby motorbike, and in a hasty escape, she sped away from the scene.

Things to avoid putting on social media if you want a job

When using social media and aiming to secure a new job, it’s crucial to present yourself in a positive and professional light. Here are some things you should avoid posting on social media if you want to make a good impression on potential employers:

    1. Inappropriate Content: This includes explicit language, offensive jokes, discriminatory remarks, and any content that could be considered offensive, insensitive, or disrespectful.
    2. Controversial Political or Religious Views: Sharing strong opinions on polarizing topics might alienate potential employers who hold different views, potentially impacting their perception of your ability to work collaboratively and neutrally.
    3. Negative Remarks about Previous Employers or Colleagues: Posting complaints or criticisms about past workplaces or colleagues can give the impression that you’re difficult to work with or may not handle conflicts professionally.
    4. Excessive Personal Information: Be cautious about sharing personal details like your home address, phone number, and other sensitive information that could be misused by others.
    5. Incriminating Photos or Videos: Avoid posting content that shows you engaging in illegal activities, substance abuse, or risky behavior. Such content can seriously damage your professional reputation.

    8. Lack of Professionalism: Typos, grammar mistakes, and overly casual language can reflect poorly on your attention to detail and communication skills.
    9. Overly Personal Posts: Sharing intimate details of your personal life might not be appropriate in a professional context and could give off an unprofessional impression.
    10. Overly Self-Centered Content: Constantly posting about yourself, your achievements, and your personal life might come across as self-absorbed rather than professional.
    11. Non-Constructive Criticism: Publicly criticizing or complaining about the job application process, specific companies, or industries can make you appear unprofessional and unwilling to adapt.
    12. Unverified Information: Sharing news or information without verifying its authenticity could lead to spreading misinformation and negatively impact your credibility.
    13. Strong or Offensive Language: Using strong language, offensive slurs, or derogatory terms can severely damage your professional image.

To enhance your chances of being viewed positively by potential employers, consider adjusting your privacy settings to control who can see your posts, conducting regular checks on your social media profiles to remove outdated or inappropriate content, and maintaining a generally positive and professional online presence. Remember that employers often search for candidates on social media platforms, so being mindful of what you share is crucial for your job search efforts.

  • Wildfire in northern Greece continues for the 11th day despite firefighting efforts

Wildfire in northern Greece continues for the 11th day despite firefighting efforts

For 11 consecutive days, there has been an extensive fire raging in northeastern Greece. Even though lots of firefighters and planes have been trying to stop it, the fire keeps going without getting any weaker.

After burning through large areas of land, the fire in the Alexandroupolis and Evros region focused mainly on a forest close to the border with Turkey. This forest is hard to reach.

The wildfire in Greece last week was the largest in the EU since they started keeping records in 2000. It caused 20 out of the 21 deaths related to wildfires.

The fire department said that there were six planes and four helicopters helping 475 firefighters on the ground. They also had 100 vehicles supporting them. An additional 260 firefighters and a helicopter were fighting smaller fires that had started from a big fire in a forest on the southern part of Mount Parnitha, near the outskirts of Athens.

Officials are looking into why the fires destroyed a lot of forest, burnt houses, and made many people leave their homes.

In Athens, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis led a government meeting to discuss ways to restore the damaged forests in Evros and Parnitha. It planned to locate all the places that had been burnt and need new trees. It also decided to take steps to avoid flooding later on. Additionally, it wanted to make sure that the animals living in the area have enough food and water.

Greece asked for help from other European countries because their firefighters are very busy. Europe sent 12 planes and many firefighters to assist Greece.

France and Spain are sending more airplanes to join the ones from Germany, Sweden, Croatia, Cyprus, and the Czech Republic as part of the EU’s emergency response system.

Over 350 firefighters from different countries, including Romania, France, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Albania, Slovakia, and Serbia, were sent to Greece.

The person in charge of handling crises in the European Union, Janez Lenarcic, said on Tuesday that this was the biggest firefighting mission ever done by the EU. It shows that we are determined to act quickly and effectively together during times of crisis.

The Alexandroupolis and Evros wildfire started on August. According to the European Union’s Copernicus Emergency Management Service, a fire that occurred when a person was 19 years old has burned over 81,000 hectares (200,000 acres) of land. Copernicus is a part of the EU space program that looks at Earth and provides information using pictures from satellites.

The European Commission said on Tuesday that it is the biggest and most serious fire in Europe since 2000.

In Greece, firefighters were fighting against 74 wildfires on Monday. Out of these, 27 started between Sunday evening and Monday evening.

Officials believe that some of the fires were intentionally started, and a few individuals have been taken into custody.

Greece makes rules to prevent wildfires. These rules are in place from May to October. They say that people can’t burn dry plants or use outdoor grills.

As of Friday, the fire department arrested a total of 163 people for fire-related offenses. Out of those, 118 were charged with negligence and 24 with intentional arson. This information was shared by government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis. The police arrested 18 more people, he said.

Getting pregnant was almost a hopeless journey -Selly Galley

After eight years of marriage, it is appropriate for TV personality and actress Selly Galley and her husband Steven Fiawoo, also known as Praye Tietia, to express their immense joy at the birth of their twin children.

The celebrity couple, who got married in September 2015, had always been candid about labour and delivery difficulties. The official announcement of their bundle of joy’s arrival on August 27 has, however, calmed the storm.

Selly Galley has been sharing her gratitude ever since on social media, calling her twin pregnancy and birth “a long and almost hopeless journey” while clinging to her faith.

“Holding on to FAITH… that’s what brought me this far.

“It’s been a long and almost hopeless journey. But I wasn’t to decide that.

“WHAT THE LORD HAS DONE!, my tongue is heavy with praise and worship, our hearts are heavy with immense gratitude

    “It’s just marvelous! 🤲🏻

“Thank you for this lovely lovely gown @kayzels_ 😌💜 (sic),” she posted.

In another post, she also thanked people for showing her so much support in her moments of the test of her faith.

The news that Selly Galley had twins began to circulate last week. The good news, though, was not taken too seriously because it was the third time that rumours of the former Big Brother Africa (BBA) representative giving birth had surfaced, all of which turned out to be untrue.

Any lingering doubts were allayed when Selly and Praye Tietia announced the arrival of their special gifts yesterday.

The most recent information was made public exactly one year after Praye Tietia, better known by his stage name Cartel Big J, disclosed in an interview that his wife had miscarried twins in 2021.

Afia Schwarzenegger ties the knot again

Controversial Ghanaian media personality and socialite, Afia Schwarzenegger has shocked Ghanaians once again as she posted pictures of herself in a wedding gown on her Instagram page.

With the wedding photos and videos, the 41-year-old left many people in awe in a series of posts from Manhattan, New York, in the wee hours of August 28.

While the groom was nowhere to be found in her posts, Afia Schwarzenegger referred to herself as “Mrs. Duah” in one of the posts and gave photo credits to someone she referred to as “Mr. J.B Duah” in another post.

Her caption read, “Mondays are for celebrity weddings..Married my best friend today. Thank you Jesus. Thank you Prophet Ogyaba for everything.”

This would be her second marriage after her first one with Lawrence Abrokwah ended in 2017.

Many people on social media wished the actress a happy marriage and congratulated her on her successful union. Others are, however, skeptical about the news.

But well, we also wish her a happy and successful marriage.

Ethiopian opposition politician calls for asylum in the US

Bekele Gerba, a politician from Ethiopia’s opposition party, said to the BBC that he has asked the US government for political asylum because of the worsening conditions in his country.

He said he quit his job as vice-chair of the main opposition party in Ethiopia‘s Oromia region, which is the home state of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

“I have informed the United States that my life is not safe in Ethiopia,” he said in an interview with the BBC.

“He said that most political party offices have been shut down. ”

The person who was once held in prison accused the government of killing prisoners without a trial, killing large numbers of people, and making many arrests.

The people in charge said before that these accusations are not true.

Ethiopian politicians who disagree with the government have been talking about how the political situation is getting worse, but the government disagrees with them.

Mr Bekele was in prison for a year and a half because he was accused of serious crimes like terrorism and encouraging violence after the death of singer Hachalu Hundessa.

The politician, whose party refused to participate in Ethiopia’s nationwide election, has been in the United States since June of last year.

Last month, Human Rights Watch said that seven important leaders from the opposition group called Oromo Liberation Front are being held in prison without a fair reason. They have been there for almost three years. The organization wants them to be set free right away.

14 people die in Poland from ‘legionnaires’ illness

Fourteen people have passed away and over 150 cases have been confirmed after an outbreak of Legionnaires‘ disease in the southeastern part of Poland.

A lot of people who got sick have been brought to the hospital ever since the outbreak was found last week.

On Tuesday, nine people were found to have a new illness.

Officials are currently investigating how the legionella bacteria, which can make people sick, entered the water system in the city of Rzeszow and nearby areas.

The place where the outbreak started is worrying because Rzeszow is a main center for supporting Ukraine with military and humanitarian help, and it has a lot of US military there too.

“We haven’t discovered any evidence suggesting sabotage,” said Stanislaw Zaryn, the Polish government‘s representative for information security, in an interview with Polsat News.

He said the special services wanted to investigate if sabotage was the cause of the outbreak, considering where it happened.

Legionnaires’ disease is a very bad lung infection that you can get by breathing in small drops of water that have the infection. You don’t get it from drinking water that has the infection. You can’t catch it from someone else.

You can get sick from using shower, toilet or air conditioning.

The first signs of the disease can be mistaken for the flu. People over 50 years old and those with weaker immune systems are at a higher risk for getting sick.

Legionnaires’ disease is cured with a series of antibiotics.

The majority of those who died were old. Everyone was sick with other long-term diseases like cancer.

The search to find out why the outbreak happened is still ongoing. The first test samples didn’t give a clear answer on where the bacteria is coming from.

Extra chlorine has been put into the public water system to clean it, and officials have told people to heat up the water before they drink it.

In 1977, scientists discovered a tiny organism that caused a serious lung infection. They found this organism after investigating an outbreak of pneumonia that happened a year earlier at a gathering of the American Legion in Philadelphia.

Opposition in Gabon declares victory in presidential election

Despite claims from the opposition in Gabon about winning the presidential election on Saturday, the announcement of official results is still pending.

President Ali Bongo wanted to be President for a third time. This would mean that his family, the Bongo dynasty, would continue to be in power for over 50 years.

On Monday, the campaign manager for the main opposition candidate, Albert Ondo Ossa, said at a press conference that they were winning in the partial vote count and had a strong advantage. However, they did not provide evidence to support their claim.

In Gabon, only the Gabonese Election Centre has the legal permission to release the results.

“President Bongo needs to respect and accept the decision made by the people of Gabon. He should peacefully transfer power to Mr. Ossa,” said Mike Jocktane, who manages Mr.

Even though the opposition has said something against it, the group in charge of counting votes has not provided any updates on how it is going or when they will finish.

The opposition has criticized and accused the elections of being unfair and dishonest.

Right now, the internet is still not working and the government has put a curfew in effect.

On Monday evening, people in the capital city Libreville hurried to obey the curfew rules. Some people who couldn’t arrive on time were stuck in distant places.

State media said on Monday that a group of criminals has been arrested. Their goal is to create disorder once the results are revealed.

Police make multiple arrests at a ‘gay event’ in Nigeria

Police in Nigeria say they have taken into custody around 200 homosexual men during a gathering in the southern region of Delta state.

Sixty-seven people will now face charges after investigations.

However, many of the men who were shown to journalists on Tuesday said they weren’t gay, but instead were people who worked in fashion as designers, photographers, and models. They said they had been asked to come to the event.

One of the men said that they were kept captive for several days without any water or the ability to use their phones.

The spokesperson for the police, DSP Bright Edafe, said that homosexuality is not allowed and will never be accepted in Nigeria.

“He said that this action is bad and we should not imitate the Western world. ”

The men were taken into custody around 02:00 in the early morning on Monday. This happened after the police stopped a man who was dressed like a woman late on Sunday night.

The police were told by the man that he was an actor at first, but later he admitted that he was a part of a gay group and had a gathering at a hotel.

Two people were supposedly discovered wearing wedding attire at the location, and the authorities claimed to have found a video recording of a wedding.

But both men said that the accusations were not true. They said that they did not dress in clothes of the opposite sex and that they were not attracted to people of the same gender.

Someone said they were a fashion designer and that the clothes the police said was a “groom’s outfit” was actually a design they were modeling at the event.

The second man, who was wearing a woman’s wedding dress, claimed he was asked to be a model at the event and denied the accusations made by the police.

Police abandoned investigation into Lindemann’s sexual abuse case

German prosecutors have stopped looking into Till Lindemann, the main singer of Rammstein, after accusations of sexual misconduct were made against him.

An investigation started in June because a number of women reported that they were given drugs and forced to take part in sexual activities.

Lindemann consistently said that the accusations were not true. His lawyers said that all of the claims were not true.

Prosecutors have decided to stop investigating because there is not enough evidence.

The women said they were hired to have sex with a 60-year-old man at parties that happened after Rammstein shows.

Last week, the singer’s lawyers announced that they will take legal action right away in response to any accusations.

A 24-year-old fan from Northern Ireland, Selby Lynn, said that she thought someone put something in her drink without her knowing and that Lindemann suggested having sex with her at a party behind the stage in Vilnius, Lithuania.

She posted on social media saying: “I want to explain again. Till did NOT come into physical contact with me. He understood that I did not want to engage in sexual activity with him. I never said he forced me to have sex against my will.

The claims she made led other women to share their stories of sexual wrongdoing by Lindemann on social media.

Some people believed that they were chosen on social media to attend Mr. Lindemann’s events They also said that they were invited to parties before and after the show.

In June, the Berlin public prosecution’s office started a preliminary investigation against Lindemann. They received multiple reports of crimes from other people.

After being accused, someone damaged the band’s office in Berlin. The windows were smashed and graffiti was sprayed saying: “Perpetrators have no place here”.

A lot of people signed a request asking Rammstein to cancel their concerts in July, but the band still performed despite the petition.

The German industrial metal band was created in 1993. They are famous for their dramatic performances and lyrics that can be seen as provocative.

They got to the top three in the UK album chart with their two newest albums that came out in 2019 and 2022.

  • Opambour slams Ken Agyapong over his temper; questions who would vote for such a candidate

Opambour slams Ken Agyapong over his temper; questions who would vote for such a candidate

General Overseer of the Ebenezer Miracle Worship Centre, Reverend Ebenezer Adarkwa Yiadom, commonly referred to as Opambour, has responded to the recent verbal outburst and intimidation conveyed by Kennedy Agyapong, a Member of Parliament for Assin Central and a contender for the leadership position within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

During an appearance on Prophet 1 TV, Reverend Opambour advised Kennedy Agyapong to adopt a humble attitude and exhibit a calm demeanor. He highlighted that allowing anger to take control would not be beneficial for Kennedy Agyapong’s political ambitions.

His counsel follows Kennedy Agyapong’s emotional outburst aimed at President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during the New Patriotic Party’s super delegates elections, which took place on Saturday, August 26, 2023.

The MP’s aggressive comments were captured on video, as he protested alleged mishandling of his agent at the North East Regional voting centre.

In an interaction with his junior pastor, who asked his views on Kennedy Agyapong’s showdown remarks, Opambuor asked rhetorically, “So, if we are showing president’s showdown, then what will happen to me then?”

He added “Nobody can do anything, listen to what I am saying: Ghana belongs to God, and in the name of Jesus, no power can rise, God will make it bow. So, there is nothing that will happen.”

He further cautioned against the potential consequences of displaying anger and making threats, warning that such behavior could deter voters from supporting Agyapong’s bid.

“When you become this angry, who will vote for you to become president? With such anger…so everything has to do with patience because, with patience, you shall achieve your result,” he advised.

  • First live worm ever found in woman’s brain

First live worm ever found in woman’s brain

Scientists say they have discovered a live worm in the brain of an Australian woman. This is the first time such a finding has been made. The worm measures about 8cm or 3 inches.

The “string-like structure” was taken out of the patient’s injured frontal lobe during a surgery in Canberra last year.

It was not what we thought would happen. Dr Hari Priya Bandi, the surgeon in charge, stated that everyone was extremely surprised.

The woman, who is 64 years old, had been experiencing stomach pain, a cough, and night sweats for several months. These symptoms then progressed to forgetfulness and feeling sad all the time.

She went to the hospital in late January 2021, and a scan later showed “an unusual spot in the front right part of her brain”.

However, the reason for her condition was only discovered when Dr. Bandi performed a biopsy in June 2022 using his knife.

Doctors are saying that a red parasite may have been living in her brain for around two months.

The woman, who lived close to a lake in the south-eastern part of New South Wales state, is getting better.

A study in the Emerging Infectious Diseases journal mentioned a case where larvae invaded and grew in a person’s brain. This is the first known case of this happening.

When I removed it, it was joyfully moving.

The neurosurgeon who discovered the worm claimed that when she first touched it, she had just started to touch the portion of the brain that had mysteriously appeared in the images.

Dr. Bandi remarked, “I thought, gosh, that feels funny, you couldn’t see anything more abnormal.”

“And after I could actually feel something, I yanked it out with my tweezers and said, ‘Gosh! And what is that? It’s jogging!”

“Everyone was in disbelief. The worm that we discovered was also enthusiastically and furiously crawling outside the brain, she added.

Then, she asked her coworker Sanjaya Senanayake, who is an expert in infectious diseases, for advice on what they should do.

“Everyone in the operating room was very surprised when the surgeon used a tool called forceps to grab something unusual. It turned out to be a moving, live worm that was 8 centimeters long and light red,” explained Dr.

“Even if you remove the grossness, this is a new illness that has never been recorded in a person before. ”

Scientists are cautioning that this case shows how diseases and infections can easily spread from animals to humans, posing a greater risk.

The Ophidascaris robertsi worm is often found in carpet pythons, which are harmless snakes that live in many parts of Australia.

Scientists believe that the woman probably got the roundworm when she picked up a kind of grass called Warrigal greens near a lake close to her home. Carpet pythons also live in the area.

An Australian parasite expert named Mehrab Hossain wrote in a journal that she thinks a woman became an “accidental host” because she used plants she found for cooking that were contaminated with snake poop and parasite eggs.

DrHossain says that no one had ever reported before that Ophidascaris larvae invade the brain.

The growth of the third-stage larva in humans is important because other studies haven’t shown larva development in animals like sheep, dogs, and cats.

Dr Senanayake, who is a professor of medicine at the Australian National University (ANU), told the BBC that this case serves as a warning.

The ANU team has found that 30 new kinds of infections have emerged in the past 30 years. Three out of every four diseases are zoonotic, which means they are infectious and have passed from animals to humans.

As the number of people grows, we get closer to where animals live and take over their homes. This is a problem that keeps happening. For example, the Nipah virus moves from wild bats to domestic pigs and then to humans. Another example is the Sars or Mers coronavirus, which goes from bats to possibly another animal before infecting humans.

Even though Covid is getting better, it is still important for experts and governments to have good ways to monitor infectious diseases.

  • Saltpond Municipal Hospital advocates for comprehensive overhaul after 103 years

Saltpond Municipal Hospital advocates for comprehensive overhaul after 103 years

With a history spanning over a century, the Saltpond Municipal Government Hospital possesses only a single functioning operating room, accompanied by an antiquated theater bed featuring a malfunctioning adjustable mechanism.

According to Dr Michael Gyasi Danso, the hospital’s Medical Director, this circumstance often leads to avoidable disruptions in healthcare delivery.

The accident and emergency unit of the hospital, which accommodates five beds, has a single restroom for use by both male and female patients.

Furthermore, the establishment lacks a standardised storage area for its consumable items since its previous storage facility was destroyed by fire several years ago.

Some of the facility’s infrastructure has deteriorated which requires urgent and immediate attention.

At the media launch of its 103rd anniversary at Saltpond last Friday, Dr Danso said the hospital was still operating “store under trees”, using a makeshift facility to store consumables since the store was destroyed by fire some years back.

On November 3, 2023, the hospital will mark its 103rd anniversary with a grand durbar.

The Saltpond Municipal Government Hospital was established in 1920 by the then colonial Governor, Sir Gordon Guggisberg, to serve as a hospital for Ghana’s Navy officers.

It is the second oldest in the country, second only to the Akuse Government Hospital.

    The operating theatre

    The operating theatre

The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital was also established by the same governor on October 9, 1923.

In 1951, the Saltpond hospital was renovated and handed over to the government.

It currently serves over 10,000 clients a year.

    Expansion

Dr Danso said although all successive governments had done their bit to improve the facility, there was still a lot to be done.

He added that it was imperative for all to support to improve the state of infrastructure.

“We have clients coming from as far as Agona West, Ekumfi, Abura Asebu Kwamankese and it is important that the facility gets the due recognition that it deserves,” Dr Danso stated.

The medical director said the hospital provided outpatient services, accident and emergency inpatient services, antenatal and postnatal care, deliveries, diabetes and hypertension clinics, family planning, eye care and physiotherapy services.

More recently, the hospital has added neonatal intensive care unit, nose and throat unit and a dental unit.

    Tour

A tour of the facility showed that all the emergency beds were occupied.

The officer in charge of the Accident and Emergency Unit, Kweku Berko Fordjour, said any new emergency case would have to be treated in a plastic chair.

“All our patients are on oxygen now and it means any new case cannot have a bed here,” he explained.

The Chief Executive Officer of CEOs Network Ghana, Ernest De-graft Egyir, who chaired the function, said the state of the hospital was disturbing for a facility that had served the people for more than 100 years, stressing that the narrative must change.

He said in reciprocity for its contribution to the total health and well-being of the people of the area, it was necessary for well-meaning citizens to support to improve the state of the facility.

Mr Egyir suggested an adoption policy for the hospital to ensure continuity of support for it.

He pledged to construct a 20-unit ultra modern emergency unit at the hospital by next year.

Mr Egyir appealed to benevolent organisations and individuals and to the GNPC Foundation to step in to help improve the state of the hospital.

    Donation

A native of Saltpond and clinical pharmacist based in the United States, Dr Dominic Maison, used the occasion to present medical consumables, worth GH¢15,000, to the hospital and pledged his commitment to the development of the facility.

    Support

The Chief of Saltpond, Nana Kwesi Ankwanda VII, and a spokesperson of the Nkusukum Traditional Area, Nana Kwesi Brebo, pledged to support efforts to develop the hospital into a facility befitting its status.

They appealed to all citizens of the area to come and support the hospital to provide quality healthcare services for the people in its catchment area.

  • Controller withholds August salaries of CETAG members

Controller withholds August salaries of CETAG members

Salaries of members of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) for the month of August have been withheld by the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD).

The measure was a response to a prior instruction from the Ministry of Education to the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD), mandating the suspension of salaries for the striking teachers during the month of August.

President of CETAG, Prince Obeng-Himah, verified the account to the Daily Graphic recently. He mentioned that members of the association became aware of the situation when they went to their individual banks to collect their salaries for August.

“Yes, there is evidence that the non-validation has taken effect.

When people went to the bank, they were not paid for the month of August,” he stated.

Mr Obeng-Himah, however, described the action as unlawful, especially where it deprived members of their economic rights as workers in the country.

    Due process

The National Labour Commission (NLC), he said, had not pronounced the industrial action of CETAG as illegal because “we followed due process and so it is not in the place of the Ministry of Education to arrogate to itself the powers of the NLC to make pronouncements or determination on the legitimacy or otherwise of strikes.”

“The inaction of the Ministry of Education should not be tolerated in our labour system because it has no legs to stand on,” he insisted.

Mr. Obeng-Himah asserted that the strike conducted by CETAG members was valid and justified.

He stated that the issue would be addressed gradually, and CETAG plans to visit the National Labour Commission (NLC) tomorrow to hear the commission’s perspective on the deadlock.

“If the NLC’s ruling is not satisfactory, we are open to several options, including going to the Appeals Court or Supreme Court.

So, we are determined to follow through to ensure that justice is served tutors of the colleges of education,” he emphasised.

Mr Obeng-Himah mentioned that the association had formally notified the NLC about the matter in written form, and as a result, they anticipate the commission to resolve the matter.

In addition to the outstanding payments and terms of employment, he remarked, the association also anticipated the government’s compliance with the directive issued by the NLC several months ago.

“We have the legal right and economic right and that the Ministry of Education needs the teachers and the teachers also need the ministry and so there should not be a situation like somebody is showing someone where power lies.

“We want to maintain that the inaction of the Ministry of Education is completely lawless and unacceptable and the earlier if rescinds its decision and pay the withheld salaries of the tutors, the better for all of us,” he said.

Members of CETAG embarked on an industrial strike from August 1, 2023, to impress upon the government to adhere to their negotiated conditions of service.

But the Ministry of Education last week directed CAGD not to process the August salaries and allowances of members of CETAG, who are currently on strike.

A letter dated August 21, 2023, and signed by the Director of Administration of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Saaka Sayiti, to the CAGD said: “Any arrears before August 2023 should be validated and paid”.

“We write at the instance of the Minister of Education, requesting you not to pay monthly salary and allowances for the month of August 2023 to the teaching staff of all the 46 colleges of education.”

However, a statement dated July 10, 2023, and jointly signed by the President of CETAG, Prince Obeng-Himah, and the acting Secretary, Thomas Amponsah, said the industrial action followed the non-compliance of the government to implement the National Labour Commission’s (NLC) Arbitral Award Orders and the negotiated conditions of service since May 2, 2023.

“The leadership of CETAG wishes to serve notice of our intention to withdraw our services across the 46 public colleges of education effective Tuesday, August 1, 2023, if by Monday, July 31, 2023, the government has not implemented our negotiated allowances together with the one-off payment of one month’s basic salary based on CETAG’s salary grade as compensation for additional duty performed in 2022 payable to tutors per NLC’s Arbitral Award Order given on May 2, 2023,” it said.

The decision of the association, it said, had been necessitated by the fact that from August 2021, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), representing our employer, deliberately prolonged its negotiations for new conditions of service for more than a year till the NLC intervened with a compulsory arbitration following CETAG’s strike in January 2023.

At the end of the compulsory arbitration, the statement said the NLC issued its Arbitral Award Orders on May 2, 2023, granting CETAG members a new condition of service with effect from January 1, 2023.

“Following the NLC’s Compulsory Arbitral Award, the parties proceeded to sign off the negotiation agreement, which has been communicated to the Ministry of Finance (MoF) by FWSC since May 26, 2023, for approval and implementation.

“Surprisingly, the MoF has refused to act on the FWSC’s letter, together with the NLC’s Arbitral Orders, in spite of letters we have written to the MoF requesting the immediate implementation of the negotiated agreement. Practically, CETAG members cannot continue to survive on expired 2020 CoS in this biting economy of Ghana,” it said.

It cautioned that at the beginning of the 2023/2024 academic year, its members would no longer continue with what it called “the killer all-year-round academic calendar” being implemented in the public colleges of education even if members were given all the money in the world as compensation.

It said the practice was softly killing teachers and that “leadership is, therefore, calling on stakeholders to adopt the in-out-out-in system to let all cohorts of students remain in school and complete the academic year together to enable tutors to take their inter-semester break.”

“After all, no law says all tertiary students should be accommodated on campus,” he added.

13 air conditioners in my GHC1m 2-bedroom house befit my status – Former Maritime Boss(FLASHBACK)

THIS STORY WAS FIRST PUBLISHED IN 2018

The Director General of the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA), Mr Kwame Owusu has revealed that spending 1 million Ghana cedis to renovate a 2 bedroom house into a four-bedroom house is value for money after a strict auditing of the facility.

He has also stated that 11 air conditioners as budgeted are even not enough and that they were supposed to be 13 arguing further that the current number fixed in his official house is mediocrity and non-reflective of my status as the maritime authority boss.

Addressing a press conference on Monday MyNewsGh.com followed he categorically stated that other Director Generals in some departments take more than he is getting but little or no noise is heard about wondering why his has become a major subject in the public court of opinion.

“Some Director Generals have a house allocated to them and even a separate Guest House for entertainment and if this Director General or any other Director General of Ghana Maritime Authority who is superintending over the Maritime Industry in Ghana cannot have a four-bedroom or five-bedroom then say it is mediocrity. Twenty Percent of my salary or any other predecessor who come and take over will be paid. Over a period it is going to pay for itself. Each of time to have an air-condition will be 13 so 11 is not even not enough and by the way we don’t put them all together”, he disclosed.

On the cost of renovation of the structure, he stated “One million Ghana cedis that has been used to renovate a two-bedroom house for the Director-General, Tender process went through administration, the bills of quantities was done by prestige…so the Director General could not have influenced the outcome and give it to my friend and say increase the money so that when they do it I can have your so-called ‘chop chop. That building is now made up of four-bedrooms of the structure the main house, a living room, a dining room, kitchen, a family room, a library and a basement.”

Royal graves in Buganda no longer in danger – UN

The UN’s cultural organization says the important tombs of the Buganda kingdom in Uganda are no longer at risk of getting harmed.

Unesco now suggests that it should be removed from the list of endangered heritage sites.

Should the removal occur, it would send a powerful signal, particularly considering that half of the potentially impacted sites are situated in Africa.
In the capital city of Kampala, there are special buildings on a hillside called the Tombs of Buganda Kings. These buildings have roofsmade of grass. Unfortunately, in 2010, a fire broke out and damaged some parts of these buildings.

The burning of the tombs caused many people to be angry and they protested. During the protests, at least two people died.

They have been fixed with money from other countries.

The Unesco suggestions were made after a group from the UN visited the location in June.

The tombs are considered important for the Baganda people’s history and religion. They were officially recognized as a world heritage site in 2001.

They were made in 1882 as a grand house for the rulers of Buganda and later changed into a place to bury the kings.

Nigerian singer, Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, popularly known as Iyanya, has spoken about how going bankrupt in 2020 nearly led to his suicide.

Iyanya, narrating his ordeal in the latest episode of the Tea With Tay podcast, said he lost his house and was staying in a hotel but couldn’t afford the hotel bills anymore at some point.

According to him, this was when he was taken to court by his former management, Temple Management Company, for allegedly “stealing” a car belonging to the company.

He said, “I was in court for a long time, I didn’t do shows. I couldn’t do anything. You know, when you stopped doing show, you now have to fall back on your savings. But when you are popping, that inflow [of money] is different, the way you spend is different from the way you spend whatever you saved. So, I felt it.

“I got to a point where I was like, mehn, I need to start touring. That was a crazy period for me. Guess what, two days after my last court case, COVID-19 started. I was stalked. I was in a hotel. My house was gone. I was in the hotel for a very long time. It got to one point, I couldn’t pay for the hotel bills anymore.

“The owner of the hotel is such a great human being. I have never seen a such an amazing human being like that. He allowed me stay there. His name is Alaba. He allowed me stay there for over a year. COVID literally caught up with me there. So, imagine not doing shows. Not touring for over a year, no inflow, and you are in court for the whole year. And then finally, it’s looking like the court case is finishing, the lockdown.

I was in that hotel throughout the lockdown. I almost committed suicide. The manager stopped me one time. All of that stuff. Madness, man.”

  • Treasures from antiquity found in 3,000-year-old tomb

Archaeologists in northern Peru have found a tomb that hasn’t been touched for 3,000 years.

The person buried in the grave was given the name “Priest of Pacopampa” by archaeologists because it was discovered in the highland region called Pacopampa.

Scientists carefully excavated through layers of ash and black earth to find his bones. They also found two seals and other valuable items that were given as offerings.
According to Peru’s culture ministry, the seals showed that ancient people of high social rank used special body paint for rituals.

Yuji Seki, the leader of the project, told Reuters that the tomb is very big, about 2 meters in diameter and 1 meter deep. He also said that the position of the body inside the tomb is strange, as the person is lying face down with one half of their body stretched out and their feet crossed.

“I believe he was a prominent figure during his era,” he said.
MrSeki said that the discovery is very important because the priest was among the first to start managing the temples in the northern Andes of the country.

The Pacopampa site is located 2,500m above the sea level. It has nine big ceremonial buildings made of carved and shiny stone.

They are believed to be around 700 to 600 years old.

The excavation is a project where archaeologists from Japan’s National Museum of Ethnology and Peru’s National University of San Marcos are working together.

Burna Boy defends Ghana Jollof on International TV

Despite the ongoing food rivalry between the two countries, Nigerian musician Burna Boy has had reason to defend Ghanaian jollof when the chance presented itself.

It all started when a pop quiz about his knowledge of the various kinds of cuisines available in Africa was interjected into an interview on Complex about his new album.

The dish on the chopping board was ‘Jollof’.

It is a rice-based dish from West Africa typically made with, tomatoes, onions, spices, and vegetables among other accompaniments.

Burna Boy recognised Nigerian and Senegalese jollof rice with ease, but his assurance waned when he tasted what he believed to be poor jollof.

Although he mistook the third plate’s country of origin, speculating that it might be from Kenya, he was not entirely off the mark when judging its quality.

Burna Boy learned that his assumption about the origin of the jollof rice he thought was less flavorful was wrong and that it actually came from Ghana.

He expressed his surprise by saying that this particular plate did not live up to his expectations because his experiences with Ghanaian jollof were very different.

“Ghana jollof is way better than this even if Ghana jollof is bottom of my list, it is a lot better than this. The real Ghana jollof is a lot better than this,” he insisted.

With this bold statement from Burna Boy, can we now say Ghana Jollof is better than Nigerian Jollof.

  • Cause of Sara’s death unknown but probably not natural – inquest

Cause of Sara’s death unknown but probably not natural – inquest

The cause of 10-year-old Sara Sharif‘s death remains a mystery, as mentioned during the investigation.

Sara was found dead at her home in Woking on 10 August. Her relatives had gone to Pakistan a day before.

It was not yet determined exactly how she died, but it is likely that her death was unnatural. This information was heard during an investigation into her death at Surrey Coroner’s Court.

At the beginning of the investigation, Coroner Simon Wickens postponed the hearing for six months so that the police can continue their investigation.

The police started searching for someone from another country after they found Sara’s dead body.

The police are looking for three people: Sara’s dad, Urfan Sharif, who is 41 years old; Urfan’s partner, Beinash Batool, who is 29 years old; and Urfan’s brother, Faisal Malik, who is 28 years old.
Mr Wickens, the local official in charge of determining causes of death in Surrey, explained that he doesn’t usually postpone legal proceedings for such a long time. However, due to the difficulty of the police investigation and the involvement of international matters, he has decided to make this exception.

He said that Sara Sharif was born in Slough in January 2013 and passed away in her house in Woking.

She was confirmed to have died on August 10, but that doesn’t necessarily mean she died exactly then.

They compared the DNA of the woman with her mother, Olga Sharif, to figure out who she was.

During the court proceedings, it was stated that the pathologist, Nathaniel Carey, couldn’t determine the exact reason for the person’s death. However, he mentioned that it was probably not a natural death.

The person in charge of the investigation into Sara’s death expressed his heartfelt sympathy to her family and postponed the inquiry until 29 February.

None of her family members were there at the beginning of the legal investigation.
At the moment, the police in Pakistan are expanding their search for Sara’s family.

Police officers informed the BBC that they have increased their investigation to two additional places near the city of Jhelum. This means they are now searching in a total of four areas because they received new details from different sources.

Police in the UK said that Mr. Sharif, who is 41 years old, called emergency services from Pakistan. This call helped them locate Sara’s body soon after Mr. Sharif arrived in Islamabad.

Last week, a court in Pakistan said that Mr. Sharif’s family members in the country cannot be held for questioning about his location.

After Sharif’s family said that the police unlawfully arrested two of his brothers who live in Pakistan, it happened.

Lupita Nyong eulogizes Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman,3 years after his death

Three years have passed since the “Black Panther” actor Chadwick Boseman passed away, and some of his Marvel co-stars remembered their friend on social media on Monday.

Lupita Nyong‘o, who co-starred with Boseman in the 2018 film “Black Panther,” shared a black-and-white image of the actor on Monday that she claimed to have taken while travelling in South Korea in the same year.

“Three years ago today, I experienced a singular pain at the news of @chadwickboseman’s death. The confusion was so profound that it took months to trust the feeling of joy again,” Nyong’o wrote.

She continued, “We had just learned to do the baby heart with our fingers. Here Chadwick was adding his suave flare. We spent a glorious 72 hours there, and the memory fills me with so much joy.”

“Death is hard to understand, maybe even harder to accept,” she added. “But the love generated from the life he lived will fuel every anniversary marking his absence.”

After battling colon cancer since 2016, Boseman passed away in August 2020 while at home with his family and wife by his side, according to a statement he made at the time and shared on Twitter. He was 43.

Through his moving performances in movies like “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” “Marshall,” and “Da 5 Bloods,” the actor had gained international fame.

He is best known for playing King T’Challa in the wildly successful 2018 films “Black Panther” and “Avengers: Infinity Wars,” and he returned to the role in “Avengers: End Game” in 2019.

In honour of Boseman on Monday, Letitia Wright, who portrayed T’Challa’s sister Shuri in the Marvel movies, reposted a 2022 clip of him on her Instagram stories with the caption “always celebrating you king.” Love always.”

Daniel Kaluuya paid tribute to his “Black Panther” co-star as well on Monday, sharing a photo of himself with Boseman and Danai Gurira on his Instagram stories.

As Nyong’o wrote at the end of her post on Monday, “Chadwick may no longer be in our photos, but he will always be in our hearts.”

It’s not the right time for negotiations – Head of Sudan army says

The leader of Sudan’s army has once again said that he will not have discussions with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to stop the four-month-long conflict in Sudan, which has caused many deaths.

General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan is visiting Egypt to have a conversation with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

This is the first time the general is travelling outside the country since the war started.

However, he made it clear that this was not the beginning of a new plan to end the conflict.

General Burhan spoke to reporters in Egypt:

This group (the RSF) is different from our people in Sudan. ”We have nothing to tell them, and now is not the right time for discussions. We are using all our time and efforts to focus on this war and put an end to this rebellion”.

”This group, called the RSF, is different from our people in Sudan”.

”We don’t have anything to tell them, and right now is not the moment to discuss things. We are focusing all our time on this war and trying to put an end to this rebellion”.

”We are determined to finish this time and become even stronger, confident, and proud”.
”We are determined to finish this time and emerge from it stronger, unwavering, and feeling proud”.

  • Imran Khan’s prison sentence in Pakistan suspended

Imran Khan’s prison sentence in Pakistan suspended

A court in Pakistan has stopped former Prime Minister Imran Khan from going to prison and facing corruption charges. However, it’s not sure if he will be released from jail.

The former cricket player who became a politician was sent to jail for three years in August because he was found guilty of being involved in corrupt activities. He lost his position in parliament last year before being sent to prison.

Khan is in jail in Attock. He is accused of many cases of corruption, but he strongly denies the accusations.

Because Khan was found guilty, he cannot participate in elections for five years.
Khan says he did not do anything wrong and has asked for a second chance to prove his innocence.

On Tuesday morning, Khan’s lawyer Naeem Panjutha announced on Twitter that our request to delay the punishment has been approved, and the punishment is no longer in effect.

There is some disagreement about whether Khan will be let go after the High Court’s decision because there are other court orders saying he can be arrested in different cases.

It is also not easy to understand how the ban on him running for elections will be impacted.

The Islamabad High Court made a decision soon after the Supreme Court of Pakistan noticed problems with the way Khan’s trial was carried out.

The PTI of Khan requested banning the authorities from arresting him again.

However, the ex prime minister still has many legal cases against him, such as being accused of helping someone commit murder, sharing confidential government information, and planning and leading violent protests.

He has already been taken into custody because he is suspected of sharing secret information and endangering the safety of our country.

Khan believes that the accusations against him are a result of a plot supported by western countries to take away his position of authority.

Last week, a special court in Lahore gave permission to the police to arrest and question Khan for his involvement in the violence that happened after the opposition leader was briefly detained in May this year.

NPP elder urges Bawumia, team to restrategise in upcoming Nov 4 presidential primaries

As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) marches closer to the November 4 presidential primaries, a respected elder within the party and a former Bono Regional organiser for the party, has offered a piece of advice to the Bawumia camp.

He has asked the Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and his team to restrategise in order to win the presidential primaries.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Odumase in the Sunyani West Municipality in the aftermath of the congress, he said “it was glaring Dr Bawumia was going to win the election”.

“I think what Dr Bawumia’s followers and campaign team must do now is to re-strategise, avoid complacency and work harder so that he would not only win the upcoming November 4 polls, but Ghanaians would generally accept and vote for him in the Election 2024”.

Mr Mensah emphasised Party unity remained essential “in this crucial period of our internal politics, because our actions and in actions can fuel disunity, breed voter apathy and thereby affect our political fortunes in the next general election”.

He commended the NPP delegates for the confidence they had reposed in the Vice President, and expressed the hope that with their support, Dr Bawumia would win the November polls and lead the NPP to political victory in 2024.

Describing the electoral processes of congress as transparent and credible, Mr Mensah said the Electoral Commission (EC), the Police and the NPP leadership must be commended.

He said despite reported cases of intimidation and some excesses that characterised the election, “the NPP and delegates have demonstrated a high sense of political civility and maturity throughout all the electoral processes”.

Mr Mensah therefore called on the leadership of the Party to be committed and investigate the alleged cases of intimidations “to satisfy our aggrieved members who would probably come on board and support Dr. Bawumia’s campaign”.

“We are very optimistic that the NPP delegates would endorse Dr Bawumia again in the November 4, polls and we need everybody’s support for the NPP to break the eight in the Election 2024”.

Teenage mother to face death penalty for placing son in trash

A young person who threw her recently born baby into a machine that crushes trash after giving birth in secret is now being charged with murder and could be sentenced to death.

Jakayla Williams, who is 18 years old, told the detectives that she didn’t want a baby because it would be expensive, according to Police Chief Will Benny from Dothan, Alabama.

She explained that her family found out she had a baby only last week. So, a worried family member went with her to a nearby hospital. She told them that she left the baby with a staff member there.

The employees at the Southeast Health Medical Center contacted the police because the security cameras did not show any evidence of her being there.

The head of the police said they found out that she had given birth to a baby a week ago, on August 13th around 7:30 in the morning.

‘Around 10am or 11am, she went to a building with many apartments on the west side of Dothan and put a live baby in a machine that crushes trash,’ he said.

She said the police found the dead baby in the dumpster at a landfill. The baby was wrapped in a mattress protector and placed in a zipped bag.

She is now being accused of committing a serious crime called capital murder.

After calming down, Mr. Benny said, “I’ve never heard of something so terrible before. ” This is very surprising, and it deeply affects your thoughts and feelings.

‘I don’t really know what more to say about it. ‘

Sadly, he said that if Williams had gone to the hospital, they would have taken the baby without asking any questions based on the state’s policy.

Alabama is one of around twenty-four states where laws against abortion have been made, or where it has been made more difficult to access. In Alabama, there are people who are being punished for only helping pregnant women move from one state to another.

Russ Goodman, who is in charge of legal matters in Dothan, said that the decision about whether to ask for the death penalty is still being talked about.

Ten people killed in Ethiopia’s latest Amhara conflict

Following a period of peace, conflict has once again erupted in specific areas of Ethiopia’s Amhara region. At least 10 civilians have been killed.

People in Debre Tabor, a city in Amhara, said that there was a fight between local armed groups and the government army starting on the weekend and lasting until Monday morning.

Witnesses say the main hospital in the city got damaged because it was hit with big guns. A hospital doctor told the BBC that five people who were visiting patients and over 20 civilians who were nearby got hurt.

The BBC has been unsuccessful in getting responses from regional authorities and a command post set up to oversee a six-month state of emergency.

Fighting has also happened in and near Debre Markos and Fenote Selam towns, as well as other small towns and villages in the area.

Unrest in Amhara started in April when a decision to disband a local paramilitary force caused disagreement and conflict.

Since the beginning of August, there has been a lot of fighting in a big part of Ethiopia’s second biggest region.

Last week, the regional council of Amhara chose a new president because the previous one, Yilkal Kefale, who had been in charge for almost two years, stepped down.

  • Powerful hurricane expected to hit Florida – NHC

Powerful hurricane expected to hit Florida – NHC

Florida and Cuba are bracing themselves for an imminent and high-risk hurricane, Tropical Storm Idalia, which is projected to escalate into a Category 3 hurricane.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said that Idalia is going to become a strong hurricane before it reaches Big Bend, Florida, on Wednesday.

Another big storm named Franklin might cause dangerous flooding on the East Coast of the United States and in Bermuda.

As the time when hurricanes are most active in the Atlantic Ocean approaches.

Franklin is the first powerful storm of the season, which happens between June and November. Right now, the storm is a Category 4, with very strong winds of 145mph (230km/h). However, according to the NHC, it will become less powerful by Tuesday afternoon.

In an announcement on Monday afternoon, the agency stated that Franklin was already creating very dangerous waves and strong currents along the south-eastern coast of the US.

Right now, Florida is mainly concerned about Idalia. Governor Ron DeSantis has alerted the state to be ready for significant problems caused by this storm.

“This hurricane is going to be very strong,” he said at a meeting with reporters on Monday.

“This will definitely affect Florida in numerous ways. ”

President Joe Biden gave permission for an emergency declaration to help the state prepare for the upcoming storm.

At 8:00 PM EDT on Monday (01:00 AM GMT on Tuesday), the NHC reported that Idalia is moving in a northerly direction at a speed of 8 miles per hour. It also mentioned that the maximum sustained winds of Idalia are 70 miles per hour.

A storm becomes a hurricane when its winds reach a speed of 74mph or higher.

According to the NHC, a storm named Idalia might cause dangerous waves and strong winds in certain areas of the west coast of Florida and the Florida Panhandle starting from Tuesday. Additionally, there may be sudden floods in some urban areas.

The storm will bring heavy rain and cause flooding in western Cuba. There is a warning for a hurricane coming to Pinar del Río in Cuba.

On Monday evening, Idalia was about 20 miles (or 30 kilometers) to the west of Cuba. It made lots of Cubans leave their homes in towns on the west side of the island.

People have made their homes safe and secured their fishing boats due to strong winds and warnings of storm surge. On Monday afternoon, the small fishing village of Guanimar, which is located south of Havana, was filled with dirty brown water from a flood.
The little fishing village of Guanimar is covered in water from a flood.

“We have already had rain for two days,” said Yadira Alvarez, a 34-year-old woman who is getting ready to evacuate with her five children, told Reuters news agency. We attempt to get ready, but regardless of our efforts, everything will end up wet.

Some towns in north-western Florida are expected to have very high waves, called storm surges, that could reach up to 11 feet or 3. 3 meters

“The NHC stated that the strongest water will be found closest to the shore in places where winds blow from the sea. This water will come with big and hazardous waves. ”

Tampa International Airport will shut down starting at midnight on Monday to get ready for the storm.

The governor of Florida has said that there is a big problem in 46 counties in the northern part of the state, so he is declaring a state of emergency.

Mr DeSantis stated that a few counties on the Gulf Coast will have to leave their homes due to Idalia, and schools will be shut down as well.

He told people living near the coast in Florida to go to higher places.

“He said that people from Florida should start carrying out their plans immediately. ”

The governor said that over 1,100 National Guardsmen have been called to duty along with 2,400 vehicles specifically designed to drive through high water and other equipment used for rescuing people.

Officials have gotten ready 400,000 gallons of fuel to be delivered to gas stations along the routes people use to evacuate, according to Mr.

Government officials also said that a lot of people in the area will not have electricity due to the storm.

Forecasters said that the states of Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina may experience a lot of rain.

Tropical storm Idalia arrived less than a year after Hurricane Ian hit Florida’s west coast and caused the deaths of more than 100 people.

We are not completely sure how climate change affects how often tropical storms happen, but we know that warmer ocean temperatures heat up the air above and provide more energy for hurricanes to form and intensify. Because of this, they are likely to become stronger and have heavier rain.

  • Minority rejects police request to change route for Anti-BoG Governor demo; says reasons as “untenable and unwholesome”

Minority rejects police request to change route for Anti-BoG Governor demo; says reasons as “untenable and unwholesome”

Minority Caucus of Parliament has declined a request by the Ghana Police Service to alter its planned route for the upcoming protest against the governor of the Bank of Ghana and his two deputies. The minority contends that the police’s request, based on security concerns, is an effort to obstruct the caucus from exercising its constitutional right.

In a statement signed by the Minority Leader, Cassiel Ato Forson, and addressed to the Accra Police Command, it is stated, “Your attempt to deny us an opportunity to conclude our #OccupyBoG protest at the Headquarters of the Bank of Ghana, under the pretext of it being a ‘security zone,’ is indefensible, worrisome, and inconsistent with the Ghana Police Service’s motto of Service with Integrity.

How is the Bank of Ghana Headquarters classified as a security zone, while Cedi House, another Bank of Ghana building proposed by the Police for our march, is not? I am reluctant to believe that you are using the term ‘security zone’ to hinder our planned protest and evade the Police’s constitutional responsibility of ensuring security for those who wish to openly demonstrate their dissatisfaction with the central bank’s irresponsible management.”

    Background

The Ghana Police Service had requested that the Minority in parliament consider an alternative route for their planned September 5 demonstration against the Bank of Ghana governor and his deputies.

The Minority leader, Cassiel Ato Forson, informed the Accra Regional Police Command on Monday, August 21, about the caucus’ intention to organize a demonstration, demanding the resignation of Dr. Ernest Addison and his deputies.

He highlighted that the protest would be carried out in collaboration with Civil Society Organisations, Progressive Forces, and other concerned Ghanaians.

The caucus stated that their action is motivated by the central bank’s illicit printing of over GH¢80 billion for the Akufo-Addo government, as well as recent losses outlined in its 2022 annual report.

Subsequently, the police, in a press statement dated August 22, 2023, acknowledged receipt of the minority’s notice and invited them to a meeting to discuss security arrangements.

Following the meeting on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, the Accra Police Command conveyed that the chosen protest routes have the potential to disrupt public order and safety. Thus, the organizers were asked to select an alternative route.

“After receiving the notice, the Police conducted a security assessment of the proposed routes and the picketing destination. Subsequent to the security assessment, on August 23, 2023, the Command engaged with the organizers and assured them of the Police’s readiness to provide necessary security for their constitutional right to demonstrate.

“However, the Police drew their attention to the fact that the chosen routes might endanger public order, public safety, among other concerns. • NPP super delegates conference: Aggrieved individuals to meet election committee today

Aggrieved participants and stakeholders of the New Patriotic Party’s just ended primaries are expected to meet the election committee today, August 29, 2023.

This meeting is to serve as a platform for the disgruntled candidates to express their grievances regarding the elections.

The meeting was announced by the Deputy Minority leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin who said the leadership of the party is set to meet aspirants to settle their grievances ahead of the special delegates congress scheduled for November 4, 2023.

He emphasized the significance of involving individuals who were dissatisfied with certain aspects of the electoral procedures, ensuring they receive a just opportunity to present their concerns. The procedure will necessitate these individuals providing supporting evidence for their assertions.

His comment comes after some aspirants and other individuals made allegations in the media about anomalies in the just-ended special delegates conference which was held over the weekend.

Afenyo-Markin stated that, although the leadership of the NPP has not received official complaints from any aspirant or individual, it is prudent for the party to undertake such an exercise to correct mistakes.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, August 28, 2023, the deputy majority leader in parliament indicated that the engagement with the aggrieved aspirants and some party members will help to maintain unity in the party.

“We have taken it upon ourselves that from what we have seen on social media, we are inviting certain personalities to appear before us for engagement. We want to hear them. We have heard of certain allegations in the media although from Saturday up to this hour, no formal complaint has come to the committee.

“But for the sake of the party’s well-being, for the sake of the unity of the party, we have taken it upon ourselves to again say that all such individuals are to appear before us. And the secretary to the Committee will send out the notice, the invitation so that by tomorrow [August 29, 2023] morning at 09:00 a.m. We’ll be here to hear them, to back their claims with evidence, have an engagement, and to hear all concerns,” he said.

    Background

The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong; 2020 NPP parliamentary candidate for Kpone Katamanso, Hopeson Yaovi Adorye; and three others were summoned to appear before the Disciplinary Committee of the New Patriotic Party.

This was made known in a statement issued by the party and signed by General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong on August 27, 2023.

The statement said, “We are confident that this disciplinary process will be conducted with fairness, transparency, and impartiality.”

Kennedy Agyapong has been summoned by the party, after a video of him publicly threatening President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia went viral, to provide responses and further details to the accusations and threats he made.

In this video, Kennedy Agyapong who appeared to be in a frenzy of anger, swore to give Akufo-Addo and Bawumia a showdown.

He was at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), where delegates of the party in the Central Region met for the Conference when this video was recorded.

His behaviour was a result of news reaching him about his agents in the Upper West Region being chased out of the voting centre during the NPP Super Delegates Conference.

The statement also emphasized the committee’s commitment to upholding democratic values, accountability, and the highest standards of conduct.

Hopeson Adorye and three others, Raphael Patrick Sarfo, Charles Dokyi Yaw-Addo and Musa Sulemana have also been referred to the Party’s Disciplinary Committee for “violations of the provisions outlined in Article 3(5)(A) of the party’s constitution and a potential misconduct under Article 4(7).”

Yvonne’s book almost made me lose my relationship – Iyanya

Nigerian singer Iyanya has revealed that his relationship with his current partner was on the brink of collapse when Yvonne Nelson’s accusations against him gained widespread attention.

He revealed this when he appeared in the latest episode of ‘Tea With Tay’ podcast hosted by actor, Temisan Emmanuel Ahwieh.

Yvonne Nelson described how she discovered her ex-boyfriend, Iyanya, was cheating on her with Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh, in her memoir, “I Am Not Yvonne Nelson,” which was published on June 18, 2023.

Yvonne also detailed how Iyanya, who was the love of her life, painfully shredded her heart into pieces with lies, unfaithfulness, and deceit.

Speaking of the negative effects, Iyanya said that after the publication of the book, his girlfriend had second thoughts about dating him.

He said, “That stuff [Yvonne Nelson’s allegations] is crazy, bro. That stuff almost made me lose a relationship. A current relationship.

“Before this book [Yvonne Nelson’s memoir], I was talking to one innocent girl who is not famous but immediately that book came out, everything became shaky. The girl was feeling like, ‘Omo, this guy, have you changed? Are you sure you won’t do me the same?”

  • Putin informs India’s PM Modi he can’t make it to Delhi conference

Putin informs India’s PM Modi he can’t make it to Delhi conference

Indian Prime Minister Modi was informed by Russian President Putin that he won’t attend the upcoming G20 Summit in Delhi.

India will be hosting a summit this year in its capital city Delhi from 9-10 September.

Mr Putin called Mr. Modi and informed him that Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov would be attending the summit on his behalf.

The two leaders talked about many problems and topics that affect both their regions and the whole world, said India in a statement.

A person who speaks for the Russian government said last week that Mr. Putin would not go to the summit because he has a lot of things to do.

The G20 is a group of the 19 richest countries in the world along with the European Union. India is currently in charge of the G20, a position that countries take turns holding each year.

Meanwhile, world leaders such as US President Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will be at a summit in Delhi where they are likely to talk about Russia invading Ukraine.

Mr Putin went to the Brics summit last week. The Brics summit is a meeting of five countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Instead of attending in person, he joined through a video call to avoid the chance of being arrested by the International Criminal Court (ICC). The ICC (International Criminal Court) has issued a warrant to arrest Mr Putin. They believe he committed war crimes in Ukraine.

India said on Monday that Mr. Modi understood and appreciated Russia’s decision and thanked Mr. Putin for supporting their initiatives during their time leading the G20.

Russia’s statement did not say that Mr Putin was not at the G20 summit. Instead, they said that the two countries agreed to work closely together while Russia is in charge of the BRICS group starting next year.

“The conversation also talked about the ongoing problems between Russia and India, which are getting better and closer in a special and important partnership,” it added.

  • Saint Obi’s widow breaks silence about husband’s death

Saint Obi’s widow breaks silence about husband’s death

Obinna Nwafor’s late actor wife, Linda Nwafor, better known as Saint Obi, has spoken out about her late husband’s tragic passing.

After a protracted illness, Saint Obi passed away on May 8 in Plateau State at the age of 57. On August 18, he was laid to rest in his hometown of Umuezealaeze, Alaenyi Ogwa, in the Imo State local government district of Mbaitoli.

In December 2006, Mrs. Nwafor, a chief enterprise business officer at MTN Nigeria Communications Plc, wed the actor. The couple was embroiled in a contentious divorce controversy that broke online in February 2022 up until his passing.

Yes! Magazine captured her on video at the funeral. There, she said it was difficult to accept that her children would no longer have a father.

Mrs. Nwafor said, “I believe our meeting was divinely orchestrated. You were very domesticated; you knew how to bake, cook, and clean. I miss you. I still don’t know how to feel.

“You told our mutual friends immediately after you set your eyes on me that the only reason I wasn’t married was because I was waiting for you. You called me your wife even before you spoke to me. It was everything spiritual and a part of God’s plan. You told me that you knew that I would be your wife that very first day we met at the airport on my way to see my parents; it was October 2006.”

She also talked about his passing and how it affected their family.

“This should not have happened. It is tough to accept that you are gone, that my children will no longer have a father, and that I will not hold your hulky frame again. My children and I pray for you daily. Your death has left us despondent. Losing you to the cold hands of death is my deepest sorrow. Nothing can heal the pain inside. I love you and always have.”

Zik Zulu Okafor, a close friend of the late actor Saint Obi, ignited the internet with a lengthy post about the late actor’s marital life and how it might have contributed to his passing shortly after the actor’s passing.

However, the family, in a statement signed by two of his sisters, Ugoeze Edith Chinyere Obichuku and Freda Nwachukwu, debunked Mr Okafor’s allegation, describing them as “false” and “malicious”.

The late movie star was a father- of- three, with two sons and a daughter, Chideta, Obinna, and Nnemdi.

At his funeral, his first son, Chidera, noted that his dad’s death forced him to become a man.

He thanked his late father for having an influence on his life and referred to him as “an amazing actor who brought smiles to the faces of people.”

“Thank you for teaching me the way of life. I know you are watching over me. I have been forced to grow up into leadership. I will lead, Dad. I will protect my mum and siblings, especially from the preying press, as you did while you were here. I will always love you till we meet again,” he said.

    More tributes

It was discovered that Saint Obi spent his final moments in Jos, Plateau State, with his sister, Nancy Jawfu, before passing away there.

The actor had six sisters and was his parents’ only son.

Hope Nwafor-Okpala, his younger sister, talked openly about their early years and his final days.

Despite the fact that they were not identical, she referred to the actor as her twin brother, saying they were close and even started school on the same day because they could not be separated.

“During the last years of his life, Obinna and I were in constant communication, reminiscing over old friends, our family and our childhood. Even while I drove to work in the morning, we would speak on the phone, and in the evening, we would even have group calls with some of our sisters.

“I will always remember the last prayer we prayed to one another. Just as I will always remember and cherish the last text you sent to me, just the night before you passed, we even called each other by our childhood nicknames. I called you ‘Obikisa’, and you called me ‘Abunti’.”

  • Major Australian gas facilities’ employees to go on strike

Major Australian gas facilities’ employees to go on strike

On the 7th of September, employees at two large natural gas plants in Australia will commence a strike. This could make natural gas prices higher around the world.

After talking with unions for several weeks, they finally reached an agreement on payment and working conditions.

Chevron, the big US energy company that runs the places, said it would “keep doing things to make sure everything stays safe and works properly, even if something goes wrong at our sites. ”

Concerns about potential work stoppages have recently caused the cost of gas bought and sold in bulk in Europe to increase.

The Wheatstone and Gorgon sites in Western Australia make more than 5% of the world’s LNG (liquified natural gas). There are currently about 500 workers at these two plants.

According to a strike plan seen by the BBC, workers will stop working for up to 11 hours each day during the industrial action.

Chevron said in a statement on Tuesday that although they don’t think strikes are needed to make a deal, they understand that employees have the right to go on strike if they need to.

It also mentioned that it would “keep negotiating to find solutions that are good for both workers and the company. ”

The Offshore Alliance is a group of two unions that represent energy workers, including those who work at Chevron. The group has been trying to make an agreement with Chevron on important things like how much they get paid, how secure their jobs are, their work schedules, and the standards for their training.

The workers were not happy with how the company was negotiating with the union and they were also upset that Chevron didn’t agree to use a common agreement that is normally used in their industry for the work they do.

According to energy analyst Saul Kavonic, he believes that the strike will not have much effect on gas prices worldwide.

But he cautioned that if the workers increase their strike, the cost of energy could go up a lot.

He said that if there was a very unlikely situation where there is a long-lasting problem with getting enough supplies, prices could go up to the same crisis levels as last year.

Samantha Dart, a senior energy analyst at Goldman Sachs, recently explained to the BBC that the issue lies with the facilities in Australia that make liquid natural gas. These facilities are providing natural gas to all of Asia.

“When countries in Asia don’t have enough of natural gas, they purchase it from the Atlantic Basin instead. This means that liquefied natural gas (LNG) that would have been sent to Europe is redirected to Asia due to the increased competition for supply. ”

When Russia invaded Ukraine last year, the prices of oil and gas went way up. As a result, people and businesses had to pay much more for their energy bills.

Last week, the prices of wholesale gas in Europe increased because people were worried about the possibility of a shortage in supply from Chevron and another Australian LNG plant owned by Woodside Energy.

On Thursday, Woodside announced that it made an initial agreement with the worker unions at its North West Shelf facility.

The Woodside and Chevron plants together provide about 10% of the world’s LNG.

A map is a visual representation of an area. It shows the features and locations of places on Earth.

Russia reduced the amount of natural gas it sent to Europe after the Ukraine war began in 2022.

That made prices higher everywhere and caused countries to look for different ways to get energy, like LNG.

Australia is a country that sells a lot of natural gas to other countries. This has helped to make energy prices lower worldwide.

LNG is a type of natural gas that has been purified and cooled to a very cold temperature of around -160C. It is made up of methane, which is the main component, and sometimes mixed with ethane.

This process changes the gas into a liquid form, which can be transported in tanks that have high pressure.

When the LNG reaches its target place, it is transformed into gas again and can be used just like regular natural gas for activities such as heating, cooking, and producing electricity.

  • NPP Super Delegates Conference: I was expecting Bawumia to get 80% votes – Gyampo

A Political Science professor at the University of Ghana (UG), Professor Ransford Gyampo, has indicated that the results of the New Patriotic Party’s super delegates conference, which took place on Saturday, August 26, were not unexpected.

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia emerged victorious in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) super delegates conference by securing a total of 629 votes, which accounts for 68.15% of the total vote share.

At the end of the el;ection, Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong came in second with 132 votes (14.30%), while former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen placed third with 95 votes (10.29%).

Speaking on The Point of View on Citi TV, Prof. Gyampo said that a couple of factors, including loyalty, played a prominent role in the results of the super delegates conference.

“We know that Bawumia was going to emerge at the top, and I was actually expecting him to garner about 80% of the votes. Kennedy Agyapong was also going to get a significant number of votes because quite a number of MPs who voted felt that Ken is someone who would easily reward loyalty. They believe that if they support him now, and there is time for them to also contest their elections, he will dole out funds to support them. And should he also become a kingmaker and he is asked to bring up names for an appointment, he will easily point out to those who gave him their loyalty. Apart from that, he is also a grassroots person, and so this placed him in a certain advantage over the others.

“I was not also surprised by the votes that were garnered by Alan Kyerematen. Even though a lot of people were expecting him to be second, he was between second and third. But what I believe was important is the fact that he was looking forward to being named as part of the top five, and he got that.”

  •  Akufo-Addo inducts two high court judges

Akufo-Addo inducts two high court judges

President Akufo-Addo officially on Monday, August 28, inaugurated two new High Court Judges, urging them to administer the law with fairness, rigor, and impartiality, devoid of any bias or prejudice.

According to him, the judiciary must earn the public’s respect through the quality of the justice it delivers and the conduct of its members.

Dorothy Ayodele Kingsly-Nyinah and Ama Sefenya Ayittey have been appointed as the new judges.

The President congratulated them on their appointment during a ceremony at the Jubilee House in Accra, during which he administered the judicial oath, the oath of allegiance, and the oath of secrecy.

He urged them to stand out in their work by being honest, ethical, and knowledgeable about the law.

The President described as unacceptable “the situation where Judges proffered judgements on the basis of decisions from lower courts and cite them as law and even less so when Judges cited no authority at all for their rulings and give an order without reasons.”

They should know their case law and ensure that their decisions and judgments are motivated correctly.

President Akufo-Addo implored the judges to ensure that they adjudicate cases with fear or favour, ill will or affection, and they must at all material times, protect the fundamental rights of the citizens.

He further admonished them to be mindful of unjustified delays that portrayed Ghana as a location where litigation took an excessive amount of time, emphasising that “This affects the country’s attractiveness as an investment destination.”

In order to keep Ghanaians’ trust and maintain the country’s reputation as one where the rule of law is upheld, the President urged the judges to use technology to advance the rule of law.

“We know that harnessing the power of technology to advance the rule of law is critical in this modern era, if we are to maintain the confidence of the Ghanaian people and shore-up our country’s reputation as a country governed by the rule of law.

“I encourage both of you to take full advantage of the E-justice system in order to expedite the conduct of cases that comes before you and enhance the management of cases before the court,” he said.

Justice Kingsly-Nyinah thanked the President for the confidence reposed in her and her colleague.

She pledged that they would carry out their duties in accordance with the constitution and all other laws, and that justice would be perceived to be done equitably.

Ugandan charged with homosexuality risks death penalty

A young man, aged 20, hailing from Uganda could potentially face the death penalty after being accused of a severe manifestation of homosexuality.

This is against the law that was approved in May and is considered controversial.
This charge has been reported for the first time, but it’s not known if anyone has been charged with it before.

A court in the eastern part of Uganda accused a man on August18th of having sex with a 41-year-old man. But it was not clear why it was believed to be categorized as”aggravated homosexuality,”according to the Reuters news agency.

According to the law, if you are gay and have sex with someone who is under 18 years old or have a long-term illness like HIV, it is considered a more serious offense.

Uganda’s new law against homosexuality has received criticism from people all over the world. Demonstrations have taken place, including one in London.

Justine Balya, the lawyer defending the accused, said that Uganda has accused four other individuals of breaking the anti-homosexuality law, but her client is the first person to face punishment under this specific category.

According to Uganda’s Daily Monitor newspaper, a Ugandan court charged a former gay rights activist and another man with homosexuality on 22 August.

Last week, a court in Uganda accused a 26-year-old woman of human trafficking and three acts of homosexuality.

  • Kwabena Agyapong urges next NPP flagbearer to adopt his 6-point plan

Kwabena Agyapong urges next NPP flagbearer to adopt his 6-point plan

An unsuccessful presidential candidate from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, has expressed that any future flagbearer of the party should consider incorporating certain aspects of his six-point strategy to enhance the country’s prospects for achievement.

Following the NPP’s special delegates conference on Saturday, August 26, 2023, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, Joe Ghartey, Kofi Konadu Apraku, and Kwadwo Poku were unable to secure sufficient votes to progress to the subsequent stage of the party’s presidential competition.

During the initiation of his campaign on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, Mr. Agyepong advised the party against selecting individuals who had faced shortcomings within the Akufo-Addo administration to assume leadership positions within the party in preparation for the 2024 elections.

He emphasized the importance of selecting candidates who can effectively address the challenges facing the nation.

Speaking on the aftermath of the elections in an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News on Citi FM in Accra on Monday, Mr. Agyepong said, “I hope that whoever emerges takes out my six-point plan to rescue the country. I would like the person to identify with some of my ideals.”

He said he was expecting to be in the top five, as the results of the polls had suggested that he would be in the top four.

Mr. Agyepong said that was because he was very confident and worked hard, but at the end of the day, the delegates made their decision, which he highly respected, and he was at peace with himself.

  • World Bank Group to support NHIS with $27.7m

World Bank Group to support NHIS with $27.7m

The World Bank Group will support the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) with $27.7 million to increase its annual active membership as well as to simplify the processing of claims and the payment of primary healthcare providers.

In accordance with the Primary Health Care Improvement Programme for Results, the primary healthcare providers include community-based health planning and services (CHPS), health centres, and maternity homes.

The programme is being funded through a World Bank facility with co-financing grants from the Global Financing Facility, Canada, the UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Operation, and the Gavi Alliance. It would be implemented for four years, from 2022 to 2025.

According to the program’s Disbursement Linked Indicators (DLIs), funding is distributed in accordance with the Disbursement Linked Results attained.

The program’s DLis include an increase in the number of people enrolled in the NHIS, an increase in the enrollment of vulnerable populations, and an improvement in the way claims are processed and paid for primary healthcare facilities.

This was stated in a statement released by the Technical Working Group of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), which was copied to the Ghana News Agency following a meeting with the World Bank Group and led by Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, the Chief Executive.

It stated that as part of the facility, the NHIA would work in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, the Ghana Health Service, and the Health Facility Regulatory Authority to enhance pertinent facets of healthcare provider accreditation, monitoring, and financing.

According to the statement, a joint effort between the NHIA and the Social Protection Directorate of the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection would increase the number of vulnerable groups enrolling in the Scheme, such as the disabled, orphans, widows, women, and children.

“This will be done through linkage with the National Household Registry which is also supported by the World Bank,” it stated.

“The ‘New NHIS’ leadership’s ultimate goal is building a more resilient Health Insurance Scheme that responds to the needs of all by providing access to quality and affordable healthcare services on a sustainable basis,” it said.

The statement said the Executive Management’s strategy towards achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) was the adoption of ‘pro-poor pathway’ interventions fastened to the legal framework that every Ghanaian should register with the NHIS.

It was noted that the NHIA Chief Executive, his deputies, and a few directors had finished a national tour of all 16 regions in order to interact with staff and the populace and talk about how to strengthen the NHIS and the role it played as a means for Ghana to attain UHC.

“Leadership is determined to open more offices in strategic locations to make the NHIS accessible to all. Some additional offices recently commissioned are the Western North Regional Office, Bono East Regional Office, Ahafo Regional Office, Dormaa East, Jamaan North, Asunafo North, Asutifi North, Obuasi, Asawase, Atwima Kwanwoma, Ejisu, Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem (KEEA) Mion, Kumbungu, and Nanton,” it said.

The statement also mentioned that newly branded operational vehicles have been given to the municipalities of Bono East, Sunyani, Jaman South, Kintampo, and Techiman.

According to the report, the NHIS has developed into a significant tool for funding healthcare delivery in Ghana. It now serves as the primary source of funding for more than 4,600 credentialed healthcare service providers, and more than 80% of their internal revenue comes from the Scheme.

The statement noted that development partners such as the World Bank Group, World Health Organisation (WHO), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the

International Development (USAID), the Korea Foundation for International Health (KOFIH), and the United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF), among others.

The number of foreign delegations that have so far visited the NHIA to observe NHIS operations is proof that the support had elevated Ghana’s NHIS to the status of an exceptional social protection model in Africa, it claimed.

The World Bank Group’s recent financial support, according to the statement, was crucial and timely in the NHIA’s effort to achieve UHC by the year 2030.
