Ghanaian Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has strongly criticized his fellow musician Stonebwoy for his recent interview with TV presenter Berla Mundi.
Stonebwoy participated in a live Twitter spaces conversation with Berla Mundi on August 24, discussing the current state of the Ghanaian music industry following the successful O2 arena concert by Nigerian artiste Asake.
Furthermore, Stonebwoy’s manager elaborated on the reasons behind his artiste’s absence from the Afronation Detroit festival, pointing out instances of sabotage and gatekeeping by certain Nigerian industry figures.
When asked about the expectations and demands faced by Ghanaian artists to match the accomplishments of their Nigerian counterparts, Stonebwoy responded that these pressures wouldn’t yield significant results unless the appropriate frameworks were established. He emphasized the necessity for increased awareness within the industry to facilitate its growth to the desired extent.
Contrastingly, Shatta Wale expressed his strong disagreement with Stonebwoy’s views in a widely circulated video on social media. He vehemently criticized Stonebwoy, asserting that his stance diminishes his own reputation and that he would never garner the same level of recognition and respect as the prominent Nigerian artists.
“Stonebwoy was asked if he was facing pressure, and he said no pressure, but awareness. You dress and do your Instagram photos like Burna Boy. Hasn’t anyone told you? You are facing pressure, which is why you want to go on stage later, you want to be on stage at the same time as Wizkid? Look at what you did at AfroNation Detroit. You were given time to come on stage, you wanted to go at the time you wanted.
“You allow yourself to be paid $10,000 while Burna Boy gets paid $300,000. Did you expect to be treated like an important person? You are just a curtain raiser!! You will never get the same platform as Wizkid, Davido, or Burna Boy!” he fumed.
Shatta Wale is no stranger to expressing his viewpoints about his fellow members within the Ghanaian music sector. In the past, he faced considerable backlash for his remarks when he applauded Asake’s success at the O2 Arena and simultaneously criticized Ghanaian artists for not attaining similar milestones.
