Officials in Ecuador have reported that more than 50 prison guards and seven police officers have been captured as hostages in multiple jails.
Two explosions caused by car bombs happened in the capital city, Quito. These explosions were aimed at the authority that manages the country’s prisons.
No one was harmed in the bombings and at least six individuals have been taken into custody.
The police think that one of the recent incidents may have been done in response to a search for weapons at a large jail in the country.
Ecuador’s leader of the department in charge of security inside the country, Juan Zapata, mentioned that the government is doing something to address the situation but did not provide more information.
Mr Zapata said that we are worried about keeping our officials safe.
Some time ago, a bomb was aimed at a building in Quito that used to be used by the SNAI. The second bomb was aimed at the main building of the agency.
Police said that the second attack was done using a car that had been set up with explosives.
The Mayor of Quito, Pabel Muñoz, said that there were explosions caused by grenades in the city last night.
Drug gangs in Ecuador are causing more violence, and this is making things really hard for the prisons, which are already low on resources and have too many people in them.
In Ecuador’s overcrowded jails, many inmates have died in violent fights.
On Wednesday, a lot of police officers and soldiers looked for weapons and explosives in Cotopaxi jail in the southern city of Latacunga. They wanted to stop more violence from happening there.
Ecuador’s President, Guillermo Lasso, said that our actions, especially in the prison system, have caused violent responses from criminal groups who are trying to scare the government.
However, we are determined and will not change our mind about our goal of capturing dangerous criminals, breaking up criminal groups, and making the country’s prisons peaceful.

Trump’s Georgia court case to be streamed live
A judge has ruled that the trial of Donald Trump in Georgia, where he is being accused of election fraud, will be shown live online and on TV.
Judge Scott McAfee said that all the hearings can be watched live on Fulton County Court’s YouTube channel.
A specific date for the trial hasn’t been decided yet, but it might happen next year while Mr. Trump is seeking to be re-elected.
Mr Trump and 18 other individuals are accused of planning together to change the results of the 2020 presidential election in their state.
The previous Republican president is currently dealing with multiple criminal trials. In one of these trials, he has entered a plea of not guilty to a total of 13 charges in Georgia.
The events that happen in Fulton County’s courts are usually shown live on a video streaming service.
But, only one of Mr. Trump’s four trials will be shown on TV, and it might be one of the most popular trials in recent times.
Last week, Mr. Trump went to Atlanta for a short time to go to Fulton County Jail and have his photo taken. He decided not to go to court on Wednesday for his arraignment, which is a quick hearing where the plea is officially given in court.
The prosecutors claim that he forced Georgia officials to change the election results in the state because he lost to Democrat Joe Biden.
The main point of the prosecution’s argument is that he called the secretary of state of the state to ask for the vote count to be redone.
“I simply want to locate 11,780 votes,” he can be heard saying on a recording of the call.Trump said the phone call was “perfect” and his lawyers who were listening did not have any worries.
The person who used to own a lot of buildings in New York, is currently the leading candidate to be chosen as the Republican Party’s presidential nominee in 2024. Despite facing legal issues, his popularity with his followers has not been affected.
He believes that the legal cases in Georgia and the other three criminal cases against him are motivated by politics.
Some of the people who were accused with him in Georgia, like his former lawyer Rudy Giuliani, have stated that they will choose not to go to court next week.
Clark Cunningham, who teaches law at Georgia State University, said that the decision is usually not a topic of debate and disagreement.
“According to him, Mr. Trump is fully aware of the accusations against him,” he explained. The main goal of the arraignment is to tell the accused person what charges they are facing and ask them how they plead. He doesn’t have to be present because he already knows what they are.
He and the people he did bad things with are accused of racketeering, which is also called the Rico act.
In the US, both at the national level, Rico laws are used to assist prosecutors in linking lower level offenders who committed a crime with those who instructed them or planned the criminal activity. -

I’m looking forward to your showdown – Atik to Kennedy Agyapong
Former General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed, has thrown down the gauntlet to Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Agyapong, challenging him to follow through on the recent showdown comment.
In an interview on Peace FM, he noted that he is anticipating the showdown Mr Agyapong promised President Akufo-Addo and his Vice.
“I was expecting the showdown and I’m still looking forward to the showdown,” he stated.
During Saturday’s August 26, 2023, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Super Delegates Conference, Ken lost his cool after he received news of intimidation against some of his agents.
In the heat of the moment, he threatened to “give the President and his Vice a showdown.”
Reacting to the comment, Mr Mohammed questioned why his statement has been interpreted as advocating violence.
He argued that a showdown could mean anything including, vowing to resist any form of maltreatment against him as a candidate and any of his agents.
“Entertainers call it beef and me, I love showdown and beef. That’s why I got surprised when people took it to some absurd level that he was threatening to do something to the President.
“In the heat of the moment, you can say things and I didn’t see how the showdown constitutes violence. Showdown could mean; I won’t allow you to cheat in the election is a form of showdown, it could also mean I’ll resist any attempt to malhandle my supporters and agents; that could also amount to a showdown. I would defeat you is also a way of a showdown,” he added.
Meanwhile, Ken Agypong has been called to the disciplinary committee to respond to questions regarding the statement.

Johannesburg fire: New victim search underway in South Africa
South African firefighters are going back inside the Johannesburg building that caught fire on Thursday to search for any more bodies.
The fire happened in a crowded and unsafe five-story building. 74 people, including 12 children, died in the fire.
The fire department wants to make sure that nobody has been forgotten or left alone.
We don’t know what caused the fire yet, but forensic investigators are looking at the burned building to find clues.
People whose family members might have died in the fire are being requested to go to the mortuary and help identify the bodies.
President Cyril Ramaphosa visited the area in central Johannesburg on Thursday evening. He said that the tragedy was a warning for us to start dealing with the issue of housing in the inner city.
The building used to be a safe place for women and children who were mistreated, but when the rental agreement ended, it was taken over without permission, as explained by President Ramaphosa to the press.
Several homes near the fire location have been declared unsuitable for habitation.
However, these old buildings are left behind by their owners or the city authorities. They are occupied by families who pay rent to criminal gangs that control them.
Some of the people who use the buildings are undocumented migrants, mainly from other African countries. -

Recent video of Okomfour Kwadee sparks widespread concern
Ghanaian musician Jerry Anaba, known as Okomfour Kwadee, has faced setbacks in his comeback journey within Ghana’s entertainment scene.
Despite earlier hits like “Nsem Pii” (2003), “Ataa Adwoa” (2004), and “Meko Ma Obi Aba” (2006), personal challenges, including mental health issues and substance abuse, posed significant obstacles to his career.
Fans observed his struggles with concern, as his absence from the music scene was deeply felt. However, in 2020, after undergoing rehabilitation, Kwadee made a triumphant return with the single “Gye W’ani,” showcasing his enduring lyrical talent and musical brilliance.
This comeback garnered immense support from fans and fellow musicians, underscoring the respect and admiration he still commands in the industry. Unfortunately, a recently surfaced video on September 1, 2023, presents a somber view of the artist, who had appeared to be on a positive trajectory toward mental well-being not long ago.

In the video discovered by zionfelix.net, Kwadee is seen performing some of his old songs in an unfinished building during an Instagram live session. While he can still deliver his classic songs, Kwadee’s appearance and demeanor have left many viewers feeling sad and heartbroken, as evident from the comments under the video.

iPhone CEO’s decision to run for president shakes up Taiwan’s election campaign
A billionaire who made his own wealth and is in his seventies, and has little experience in politics, has decided to join one of the most important presidential elections of 2024. This has caused a big change in the race, which could have significant effects even outside the country.
Terry Gou, the person who started the biggest company that makes iPhones called Foxconn, said on Monday that he wants to be the president of Taiwan again. A lot of other people who like China are already running for president, but Terry Gou wants to challenge the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), who want Taiwan to be separate from China.
Tsai Ing-wen is the current president, but she can’t run for another term because there is a limit. The DPP has been in power for eight years under her leadership. If the party wins for a third time, it would be something that has never happened before in the 27 years of democracy on the island.
The upcoming election, scheduled for January, is happening at a tense time between Taiwan, an island with 24 million people, and China, a powerful neighboring country. China believes that Taiwan is its rightful territory and is willing to use force if needed to take control.
Tensions are very high between China and an island because China’s leader, Xi Jinping, is sending more and more warships and fighter jets to the island, making people worried.
Many people are increasingly worried about the possibility of China attacking another country, especially after Russia invaded Ukraine. Despite this, China has refused to criticize Russia and has actually become closer to them.
There hasn’t been such a big possibility of a conflict during a Taiwan election since 1996. Back then, China shot missiles at Taiwan to scare voters from supporting a candidate who wanted Taiwan to be separate from China. That decision ended up going very wrong, but the candidate still won.
With the increasing possibility of an invasion, Taiwan’s foreign policy, particularly its relationship with China, has become a major concern in the presidential race. This is in addition to other important topics like the economy and the rising cost of living.
Candidates who are against the ruling party, including Gou, criticize the DPP for causing problems with Beijing and increasing disagreements. They say that this election is a decision between wanting conflict or wanting harmony.
Meanwhile, the DPP’s candidate, Vice President Lai Ching-te, has described the election as a decision between a government that values people’s freedom and a government That is run by a single ruler with strict control over everything.
Don’t let fear or the higher risk of authoritarianism make you give up or go backwards. He said that we have to be brave and strong in order to keep developing Taiwan’s democracy. He said this while he was traveling through the United States last month, even though Beijing criticized the trip.
Lai is a politician who used to be a doctor and went to Harvard. He belongs to a group in the DPP called “deep green,” which supports independence more openly. This has made him a problem for Beijing, who often criticized him as a “separatist” and “troublemaker. ” In 2017, Lai angered Chinese officials by describing himself as someone who works practically towards Taiwan’s independence.
Since Lai became the DPP nominee, he has changed his opinions and now supports maintaining the current state of relations between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait. This choice has been favored by most people according to opinion polls, although the younger generation on the island is increasingly supporting complete freedom from China.
Gou needs to gather around 290,000 signatures by November so he can be a candidate on the ballot. In the past few months, he has organized events similar to political campaigns all over Taiwan to gain support for his bid.
His campaign is focused on one main idea: in order to prevent a war with China, the DPP needs to be removed from power.
Gou is proud of his many years of experience in dealing with Chinese officials. He believes that Taiwan should follow a “one-China framework” and begin discussions with Beijing right away.
He became successful in his business because there was improvement in the relationship between Taiwan and China.
Foxconn started its first factory in Shenzhen in 1988. It has been really important for China’s changes and growth because it brought new businesses, money, and technology to China’s young economy. The big electronics company now has large factories that hire many people in different parts of China.
Gou’s successful business empire in Taiwan has made him extremely wealthy, with a net worth of approximately US$7 billion. This has also boosted his confidence to make significant commitments.
Gou announced on Monday that he plans to run for office. He promises to make Taiwan’s economy grow faster and avoid the same problems as Ukraine.
“He said that if you give me four years, I guarantee to bring 50 years of peace to the Taiwan Strait. ”
This is a strong statement to make, especially for a businessman who has previously had good relations with China’s ruling Communist Party. Gou is the only person who has met and greeted Xi by shaking hands. In 2014, the Chinese leader welcomed him at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse when he visited Beijing.
However, some people think that because Foxconn has invested a lot of money in China, Gou may be influenced by China’s demands. Gou has strongly denied this idea.
Gou said that if the Chinese Communist Party threatened to take away Foxconn’s assets if people didn’t obey them, he would agree with them and ask them to go ahead and do it.
He quit being the leader of Foxconn in 2019 to concentrate on attempting to become president, but gave up when he didn’t receive the nomination from Kuomintang (KMT), Taiwan’s main opposing party.
After the KMT rejected Gou for the second time this year, he has decided to participate in the election as an independent candidate. This has caused conflict among the opposition, as there are already two candidates who support having stronger and more stable relations with Beijing.
Hou Yu-ih, the mayor of New Taipei City, is the selected candidate of the KMT political party. Ko Wen-je, a popular ex-mayor of Taipei, is participating in the election under the Taiwan People’s Party.
The KMT is very sorry about Gou’s bid and wants him to support Hou. They are worried that if Gou runs, it will divide the votes of people who are friendly to Beijing.
However, Gou has supported his choice by portraying himself as the only person capable of bringing together the divided opposition against Lai, who is currently ahead in the polls.
“I want to bring together the opposition group,” he said on Monday, asking Hou and Ko to meet and talk about the best plan to beat DPP.
According to Wen-Ti Sung, a political scientist from the Taiwan Studies Program at Australia National University, in the near future, Gou is expected to split the votes of opposing parties which will make things easier for Lai.
Sung warned that it is difficult to predict the long-term effects.
Gou’s dream is to make the other two opponents either quit or support him, so he can be the only person challenging Lai. However, very few experts in Taiwan think that this is a realistic idea.
After Gou announced his decision, Hou, the KMT candidate, told reporters that he still wants to be president and is focused on doing what the party wants him to do.
Ko’s party said it understands that Gou has the right to run for office, but they are focusing on Ko’s campaign.
Apart from getting 290,000 votes by November, Gou also has to announce his running mate before September 17, as per Taiwan’s Central Election Commission rules.
“Gou is in a hurry, and time is not on his side,” Sung explained. -

Thai King commutes Thaksin Shinawatra’s eight-year prison term to one year
The duration of the penalty for former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has been reduced by King Maha Vajiralongkorn of Thailand. Instead of being in prison for eight years, Thaksin will only have to stay for one year. This is surprising and ends a long political story.
Thaksin, the leader of a famous political family, recently came back to Thailand after being away for 15 years. The country’s justice minister has confirmed that he has asked for a royal pardon.
A message posted in Thailand’s official journal on Friday stated that the King has recognized Thaksin’s request and, “with his kindness, he has shortened Thaksin Shinawatra’s prison sentence to one year. ”
The statement said that it considered Thaksin’s service to the country, loyalty to the monarchy, and his confession and regret for his past actions.
“He was once the leader of Thailand, and during his time, he helped the country and its people. ” And when he was accused and found guilty by the court of the mentioned prison sentence, he admitted to his actions and expressed regret, stated the announcement.
“He was ready to accept the punishment even though he was old and had health problems that needed treatment from special doctors. ”
The statement did not mention the specific time when Thaksin asked for a royal pardon. The king gave an order on August 31 and it was signed by the previous Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, who used to be a military leader and removed a government that was previously led by Thaksin’s sister.
Thaksin, who is now 74 years old, served as the prime minister from 2001 until he was removed from power in a military takeover in 2006. He went back to Thailand for a short time in 2008 but then ran away from the country because he was found guilty of corruption.
Thaksin returned to Thailand on August 22 after running away for a while. He came back on a fancy airplane called a private jet. When he arrived in Bangkok, his family and fans were there to greet him.
He was arrested and given a punishment of eight years in jail by the highest court for doing things that were not fair and right while he was in charge. Thaksin was found guilty of the charges while he was away and unable to attend the trial.
Justice Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam, who is leaving his position, told reporters on Thursday that he had received a letter from Thaksin asking for forgiveness from King Vajiralongkorn.Wissanu, a experienced person who has lived through Thailand’s unstable politics and has worked in the government during Thaksin’s time and also with the military leaders afterwards, said that the request for a royal pardon will go forward and “will be handled following the rules. ”
“He said it all depends on the kindness of His Majesty. ”
After coming back to Thailand, Thaksin was put in prison. However, the next day he was taken to the hospital because he had chest discomfort, high blood pressure, and low oxygen levels. The Thai Corrections Department explained that his heart disease couldn’t be treated at the prison hospital and he required care from specialists.
Only a few hours after reaching Thailand, the parliament selected Srettha Thavisin from the Pheu Thai party to become the country’s 30th prime minister.
In order to get enough votes in parliament, Pheu Thai joined forces with two political parties supported by the military. These parties have connections to the military group that overthrew Pheu Thai’s government, which was chosen by the people and led by Yingluck Shinawatra, Thaksin’s sister, almost ten years ago.
Pheu Thai is a new political party started by Thaksin from the powerful Shinawatra family. They have been a strong force in Thai politics for two decades.
Some experts think that Thaksin may have made an agreement with the influential conservative and royalist group in the country, allowing him to come back despite his convictions and charges. In return, they may have given him a shorter prison sentence, more lenient treatment, or a chance for forgiveness.
Thaksin has said that he did not make this agreement.
However, it is important to notice that the king made the decision quickly.
In Thailand, prisoners can ask the justice minister for forgiveness from the king. The minister then sends the request to the prime minister, who finally gives it to the king for his decision.
The temporary government, led by the current prime minister who came to power through a coup in 2014, only has a short time left before the new government takes over. The new prime minister is a friend of Thaksin and his name is Srettha.
A divisive person, Thaksin is a very wealthy businessperson in the telecommunications industry. He gained his political influence by implementing policies that were liked by the rural poor in Thailand who make up most of the country’s population. However, the country’s wealthy and conservative people strongly disagreed with his policies and accused Thaksin of being a dangerous and corrupt leader who catered to the needs of the general public. -

Andrey Kurshin is a blogger who manages the Moscow Calling Telegram channel. This channel has around 87,000 followers.
The administrator of the Moscow Calling telegram channel, Andrey Kurshin, is being accused of spreading false information about the Russian army. A criminal case has been opened against him. This information was reported by RIA Novosti on Thursday.

This happened after a well-known Russian blogger who supported war, Igor Girkin, was arrested in July. Girkin did not agree with Russian President Vladimir Putin and thought he made mistakes in Ukraine.
In April, a Russian military blogger named Vladlen Tatarsky died in a bomb blast at a cafe in downtown St. PetersburgPetersburg, where he was visiting as a guest of a group that supports war.
Daria Trepova, a 26-year-old person who opposes war, was taken into custody and accused of committing terrorism crimes related to the event. Investigators believe that Trepova, who was told to do so by Ukraine, brought a statue filled with explosives to the location and gave it to Tatarsky. -

50 Cent throws mic at fan injuring her
During 50 Cent’s Final Lap Tour, an unfortunate incident occurred when the G-Unit leader threw a microphone into the audience, inadvertently hitting a fan in the head and leaving them bloodied and bruised. The Power mogul took the stage at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com arena on Wednesday and, despite an entertaining show, he grew frustrated when handed multiple malfunctioning microphones. A video posted by The Neighborhood Talk captured 50 Cent’s visible irritation, leading him to aggressively toss two broken mics into the crowd.
Regrettably, one of these mics struck a woman in the head, resulting in a bloody gash on her temple.
50 Cent has not yet responded to the incident, but TMZ has reported that he is now a suspect in a criminal felony battery case.
According to the outlet, the woman who was struck is Bryhana Monegain, a host at Power 106, and she has filed a police report. Monegain informed authorities that 50 Cent looked at her before throwing the microphone, indicating that he was aware of her presence. Following the incident, Monegain sought medical attention for a head laceration.

Interestingly, 50 Cent is not the only rapper who has used a microphone in this way during a performance. Cardi B, for instance, had a similar encounter while performing at an outdoor daytime party in Las Vegas in July. Footage from the event showed Cardi B being drenched with water by a fan in the crowd while she was performing “Bodak Yellow.” In response, Cardi threw her microphone at the individual responsible before they were escorted out of the venue.

Georgia case involving Donald Trump to be livestreamed
A judge has ruled that the court proceedings involving former US President Donald Trump and his co-defendants in their Georgia election fraud case will be televised.
Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee also announced that the trial will be live-streamed on YouTube.
Mr. Trump is among 19 individuals facing charges related to a conspiracy to overturn the 2020 vote results in the state of Georgia.
He has pleaded not guilty and has opted not to appear in court next week, waiving that right.
Mr. Trump turned himself in at Fulton County Jail in Atlanta last week, where his mugshot was taken.
He has consistently denied any wrongdoing and has characterized the case as politically motivated.
In total, Mr. Trump faces 13 charges, including racketeering, for allegedly pressuring Georgia officials to reverse the results of the 2020 presidential election in the state.
In a court filing on Thursday, Mr. Trump acknowledged that he “fully understands” the nature of the allegations and his right to appear in court.
“Understanding my rights, I do hereby freely and voluntarily waive my right to be present at my arraignment on the indictment and my right to have it read to me in open court,” the signed document states.
Mr. Trump, the leading contender for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, has previously attended all three of his arraignments, where charges are presented to a defendant.
For his cases in New York and Florida, he was required to appear in person, while he chose not to request a virtual appearance for a separate case in Washington DC.
In all three instances, there was heightened security due to gatherings of Trump supporters and counter-protesters near the courthouses.
Mr. Trump’s surrender and arraignment occurred simultaneously in his federal court cases, leading to high-profile courtroom appearances. However, in Georgia state court, a defendant’s surrender and arraignment typically happen separately.

Gabon suspended over coup by AU
The African Union has decided to suspend Gabon’s membership due to the recent military junta in the Central African nation. This announcement was made by the AU’s Peace and Security Council on Thursday evening, as reported by NAN.
It’s worth noting that the AU suspended suspended Niger Republic’s membership just a few weeks ago when a military takeover occurred at the end of July.
In addition to Gabon, Burkina Faso, Mali, Guinea, and Sudan have also faced suspensions from international bodies due to recent coups in these countries.
In Brussels, top EU diplomat Josep Borrell expressed the European Union’s strong stance against any unlawful seizure of power in Gabon. He emphasized the need for resolving the challenges facing Gabon through adherence to the principles of the rule of law, constitutional order, and democracy. Borrell stated that the country’s peace, prosperity, and regional stability depended on this approach.
He called for an inclusive and meaningful dialogue as the means to uphold the rule of law, human rights, and the will of the Gabonese people, rather than resorting to the use of force.
The military took control of Gabon on Wednesday, announcing the dissolution of state institutions on state television. They asserted that the recent election results were invalid due to fraud and closed the country’s borders. Shortly before these developments, electoral authorities had declared the incumbent president, who had been in office since 2009, as the winner of the August 26 election.
On Wednesday evening, military leaders designated the head of the Presidential Guard, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, as the interim leader of the country.

This marked his second consecutive individual award in as many weeks, following his recent victory as the PFA Men’s Player of the Year in the English Premier League.
It’s a clear acknowledgment of the incredible statistics he achieved last season, contributing significantly to his team’s historic treble.
However, the Norwegian has his sights set on an even bigger prize: the Ballon d’Or award, which will be announced at the end of next month. This could be his first win at the age of 23.
He will be up against Lionel Messi, whose outstanding performances for Argentina during the Qatar World Cup at the end of last year have positioned him as a strong contender for an unprecedented 8th Ballon d’Or title, despite his public indifference to the award.
The decision now lies in the hands of a panel of experts and international journalists. They must choose between a player who achieved a treble in his debut season in arguably the world’s toughest league and another player who scripted a football fairytale in a truly remarkable fashion.
Currently, it seems to me that Messi still holds an advantage over Haaland.
Firstly, it’s worth noting that winning the UEFA Men’s Best Player of the Year doesn’t guarantee success in the Ballon d’Or race. In recent years, dating back to 2011, there have been four instances where different players won these prestigious awards.
For instance, in 2011, Lionel Messi claimed the Ballon d’Or, while his Barcelona teammate Andres Iniesta received the UEFA Award. Cristiano Ronaldo secured the Ballon d’Or in 2013, while Franck Ribery was honored by UEFA. In both 2019 and 2021, Messi won the Ballon d’Or ahead of UEFA’s Players of the Year, Virgil Van Dijk and Jorginho, respectively. The 2013 case is often cited as a notable example of a Ballon d’Or upset.
The recurring theme here is that winning the UEFA Award doesn’t necessarily foreshadow the outcome of the Ballon d’Or vote. Messi himself has triumphed over the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year three times in his career, so it’s entirely possible he could do it again.
Now, let’s explore why Messi might have the upper hand in the 2023 Ballon d’Or race.
In addition to leading Argentina to a World Cup victory in December last year, Messi’s pursuit of an eighth Ballon d’Or title further bolsters his position. Winning the World Cup is a significant achievement that can greatly influence the Ballon d’Or vote.
Furthermore, Haaland’s perceived inconsistency in big games, despite his impressive record of 52 goals in 53 appearances last season, could work against him. The World Cup’s global stage also puts Messi at an advantage, as this competition carries substantial weight in the eyes of voters.

After 20 years, I can produce music that resonates with my own tastes -Akon
R&B star Akon has been in the music industry for almost 20 years. He says that now, after all these years, he’s finally able to make music just for himself.
Akon was born in the USA but spent his childhood moving between New Jersey and Africa. He learned to play different musical instruments from both Western and African traditions. However, when he started his music career in the early 2000s, producers were only interested in one aspect of his background.
“At that time, one of the big things I had to distance myself from was the fact that I was African,” he tells BBC Newsbeat. “That wasn’t something they could promote in the kind of music world I was in.”
Akon became a huge commercial success with popular pop and R&B songs like “Lonely” and “Locked Up.” But he says the music industry’s financial pressures and the need to make money influenced his music.
“Everything had to be carefully planned,” he says. “It got stressful and started to feel like work.”
Since his early successes, Akon has established his own record label and launched business ventures like the Konvict Clothing line. Some of his projects, like the idea of creating a “real-life Wakanda” in Senegal with its own cryptocurrency, didn’t go as expected. However, he believes that enough has worked out, and he no longer relies on others to support him.
Making music at 50 years old is more about “the passion and love for music,” he says. He can now include “more of an African influence” in his work because there’s less pressure on him to make money.
“Music is not my main source of income now; it has fallen to maybe the tenth,” he explains.
With financial freedom, he can “infuse more culture” into his songs. The tracks on his new Afro Freaks EP represent a “significant evolution” from his earlier hits like “Lonely” and “Locked Up.”
“I can enjoy making music without dealing with the politics and the complexities of the music industry,” he adds.
Akon’s new EP heavily draws from Afrobeats, a genre that has gained global popularity thanks to artists like Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy.
He mentions his efforts to promote this music style, which blends African and Western influences. He even signed Wizkid to his own label in 2008. However, Akon remembers a time when US industry leaders dismissed Afrobeats.
“I recall in the early 2000s when I was trying to introduce and promote Afrobeats in America, they thought it was Reggae music,” he recalls. “It was frustrating, trying to make them understand that the African audience was substantial, and this music would be the future.”
Unfortunately, he faced resistance. It took another ten years before Afrobeats truly made its mark, with big artists like Drake and Beyonce collaborating with some of its brightest stars.
When Wizkid won a Grammy Award in 2021, Akon saw it as a vindication of his earlier efforts, saying it was “one of those ‘I told you so’ moments.”

It’s important to note that while cloves offer potential health benefits, they should be consumed in moderation as part of a balanced diet. Additionally, if you’re considering using clove supplements or clove oil for medicinal purposes, it’s recommended to consult with a healthcare professional to ensure they’re safe and appropriate for your individual health situation.

“I don’t have a problem with Rex Omar” – Akosua Agyapong
Esteemed Highlife musician, Akosua Agyapong, has clarified that there is currently no ongoing conflict between herself and Rex Omar, the chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO).
Recent disputes had emerged between the two, initiated by Agyapong’s outspoken criticism of GHAMRO and Rex Omar, where she accused them of significant corruption.
In response, Rex Omar had suggested that Agyapong’s actions might be motivated by her failure to secure a license from the Attorney-General’s Department to establish an alternative collective management entity. This exchange had raised the potential of legal action being taken against Agyapong by the GHAMRO chairman.
During an appearance on the Asaase Breakfast Show, Agyapong shared her perspective, emphasizing that her primary concern has always been the transparency within GHAMRO.
“To me, I don’t think I am attacking Rex Omar. He was the one attacking me personally, but I have always chosen not to discuss that because my focus is on GHAMRO,” she stated.
She continued, “I don’t have an issue with him, but whenever he goes on YouTube, he directs attacks at me. There was a point where he crossed a line and I thought, ‘You have pushed me’, so I responded by conveying what needed to be said.”
Regarding the legal letter she received from Rex Omar’s lawyer, she clarified, “He had his lawyer send me a letter, urging me to publicly apologize because I referred to Rex Omar as a ‘thief’.”
In essence, Agyapong maintains that her standpoint revolves around the transparency and operational effectiveness of GHAMRO. Any personal conflicts with Rex Omar, she argues, have arisen due to his actions rather than her intentions.

Factors behind his hesitation to propose
The underlying cause for someone’s reluctance to propose marriage can vary widely and is often rooted in their personal feelings, experiences, and circumstances. Here are some potential factors that could contribute to someone’s reluctance to propose:
- Commitment Concerns: Marriage is a significant commitment that involves emotional, financial, and legal responsibilities. Some individuals might feel anxious about making such a lifelong commitment and may hesitate to propose due to fears of failure or the unknown.
- Fear of Rejection: The fear of being rejected after proposing can be a strong deterrent. If someone has doubts about their partner’s feelings or worries about the possibility of being turned down, they might delay proposing to avoid potential emotional distress.
- Uncertainty about Compatibility: A person might be hesitant to propose if they have lingering doubts about the long-term compatibility of the relationship. They may be unsure if they share the same values, goals, or lifestyles with their partner.
- Past Relationship Trauma: Previous negative experiences in relationships or exposure to unsuccessful marriages within their family or social circle can make someone cautious about entering into a marriage. They might want to ensure they have addressed any emotional baggage before taking such a big step.
- Career and Personal Goals: Individuals who are focused on their careers, personal growth, or other aspirations might postpone proposing in order to prioritize those goals. They could be waiting for the “right time” when they feel more settled in their professional and personal life.
- Financial Concerns: The financial aspect of marriage, including wedding expenses and potential joint financial decisions, can be a source of anxiety for some. If someone feels they are not in a stable enough financial position, they might delay proposing.
- Communication Issues: Effective communication is crucial in any relationship. If there are communication problems or a lack of open dialogue between partners, it could lead to misunderstandings about their readiness for marriage.
- External Pressure: Societal or familial pressure to get married can have both positive and negative effects. Some individuals might resist proposing if they feel pressured to do so, wanting to ensure their decision is driven by their own feelings rather than external expectations.
- Emotional Readiness: People have varying levels of emotional readiness for marriage. Someone might delay proposing until they feel fully prepared to take on the emotional responsibilities and challenges that come with marriage.
- Personal Insecurities: Low self-esteem or feelings of inadequacy can affect someone’s confidence in their ability to be a good partner or spouse. These insecurities might lead them to hesitate when it comes to proposing.
It’s important to remember that everyone’s situation is unique, and there could be a combination of factors contributing to someone’s reluctance to propose. Open and honest communication between partners is crucial to understanding each other’s feelings and addressing any concerns that might be hindering the decision to move forward with marriage.

A strong wind is blowing – Shatta Wale reacts to recent coups in Africa
Dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has waded into the recent uprising on the African continent, with a strong caution for other countries and their leaders to be vigilant and proactive in addressing the concerns of their citizens to maintain peace and stability.
“The francophone spring is getting scary !!! A strong wind is blowing oooo Ayooo!!!!! Don’t say I didn’t tell you !! Save this tweet,” he said on August 31, 2023.
Africa has experienced seven coups since August 2020, before the one underway on Wednesday in Gabon.
– Niger –
On July 26, 2023, the military announced that they had overthrown President Mohamed Bazoum. General Abdourahamane Tiani becomes the new strongman of the country.
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) announced on August 10 its intention to deploy a regional force to “restore constitutional order”, while continuing to favor the diplomatic route.
The military proposes a transition period of “three years” maximum before returning power to civilians.
– Burkina Faso: two putsches in 8 months –
On January 24, 2022, President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré was ousted from power by the military, Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba was inaugurated president in February.
On September 30, Damiba was in turn dismissed from his position by the military, Captain Ibrahim Traoré was invested as transitional president until a presidential election scheduled for July 2024.
– Sudan –
On October 25, 2021, soldiers led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhane chased out the transitional civilian leaders, who were supposed to lead the country towards democracy after 30 years of dictatorship of Omar al-Bashir, himself deposed in 2019.
Since April 15, 2023, a war due to a power struggle between General Burhane and his former deputy Mohamed Hamdane Daglo has killed at least 5,000 people in the country.

Stop begging on your WhatsApp status – Joro Olumofin to ladies
Nigerian social media influencer, Joro Olumofin, has shared advice with women, urging them to refrain from seeking favors through their WhatsApp status updates. He emphasized that doing so not only reflects poorly on themselves but also negatively impacts the perception of the men they are involved with.
Joro pointed out that this behavior is a contributing factor to their single status, as men tend to find such appeals unattractive.
“Addressing certain ladies: Ladies, it’s time to cease the practice of pleading on WhatsApp. You often come across statements like, ‘Who will give me 100K?’ or ‘I spotted these shoes on Instagram, who is going to purchase them for me?’ ‘Who will treat me to pizza?’ ‘Who will buy me this hairstyle?’
“This conduct can be quite disconcerting, especially considering that some of these ladies are in relationships or even married. How do you expect your partner to feel when they see you soliciting these things, while your boyfriend or spouse watches? Additionally, if you’re single, such behaviors contribute to your single status. Men are generally not fond of this kind of approach because it resembles simultaneously asking multiple men for assistance,” he said.
Joro emphasized that instead of broadcasting such appeals on their status, it’s more appropriate to directly request favors from men. He explained that soliciting help individually is far more respectful and avoids conveying desperation.
“Reaching out to a man directly for help is a more reasonable approach than resorting to status-based announcements. The latter portrays an air of desperation and lack of decorum. Remember, if multiple men provide assistance, it diminishes the value of each gesture. Therefore, it’s advisable to approach a man directly rather than partake in this widespread solicitation through your WhatsApp status.”

Shatta Wale reacts to ongoing coup in Garbon
Following the recent coup in Gabon, Shatta Wale expressed his concern through a tweet, describing the increasing political turbulence in Africa as “scary.” He used the term “Francophone Spring” to characterize the unfolding events.
In the early hours of Wednesday, August 30, 2023, Gabonese soldiers announced via national television that they had taken control of the Central African nation. This move followed the August 26 presidential election, the results of which were being disregarded by the soldiers. The incumbent, Ali Bongo, who had been declared the winner just hours before, was ousted from power amidst opposition claims of election fraud. The Gabonese Electoral Commission had declared Bongo the winner with a little under two-thirds of the total votes.
Bongo acknowledged the coup in an unofficial communication to international allies. In a brief 51-second video circulated on social media, Bongo was seen in a room at the presidential palace, appealing to his global friends to raise awareness about his arrest that followed his removal by the military.
He also confirmed that he was under isolation at the presidential residence due to the detainment of his son and his wife being held in another location.
Many have voiced their reactions to the situation, and in a tweet, Ghanaian musician Shatta Wale shared his thoughts on the potential ramifications of the unrest. He expressed, “The francophone spring is getting scary!!! A strong wind is blowing oooo. Ayooo!!!!! Don’t say I didn’t tell you!!” Within this social media post, he urged his followers to “save this tweet.”

The concept of the “Francophone Spring” draws parallels to the well-known “Arab Spring,” which unfolded in the Middle East and North Africa during the prior decade. This phrase encapsulates a series of anti-government protests, revolutions, and political shifts that occurred across several Arab countries.
Over the past few years, certain Francophone nations in Africa have experienced coup d’états.
On May 24, 2021, Mali’s President Bah N’daw, Prime Minister Moctar Ouane, and Minister of Defense Souleymane Doucoure were detained by the Malian Army led by Vice President Assimi Goita, who headed the junta. The military announced the removal of N’daw and Ouane from power, with plans for new general elections scheduled for 2022.
In September 2022, Burkina Faso witnessed another coup d’état, merely ten months after the previous one that ousted democratically elected Christian Roch Marc Kabore from office. Reports of intense artillery gunfire in the early hours of September 30 and a strong military presence in parts of the capital, Ouagadougou, raised concerns of a potential takeover.
On July 26, 2023, soldiers took to national TV in Niger to declare the removal of President Mohamed Bazoum. This group of ten officials, identifiable by their uniforms from various security institutions, made the announcement.

Cecilia Dapaah: No NPP wrongdoer will ever be punished under Akufo-Addo’s govt – Kwakye Ofosu
Ghana’s political arena has been set ablaze by a statement from Kwakye Ofosu, a prominent figure in the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), echoing allegations of political favoritism within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He has asserted that the President has and continues to exert influence, fostering impunity in office to such an extent that corrupt officials are being let off the hook.
“I am surprised people are surprised about the turn of events in the Cecilia Dapaah matter. As long as Akufo-Addo and his NPP remain in office, no NPP wrongdoer will ever be held to account. If you want them held to account, boot them out in 2024,” he noted.
His remarks come after a court order to the Office of the Special Prosecutor to return seized cash found in the home of the former Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Dapaah.
An Accra High Court has mandated the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to return Cecilia Dapaah seized money to her within a period of seven days.
The former Sanitation Minister found herself entangled in a legal dispute when her assets were seized by the OSP. However, the court has overturned this action, directing the OSP to return the confiscated funds to her.
The OSP is investigating Madam Dapaah for corruption and corruption-related offences following the revelation that she was keeping more than $1 million in her house.
In the wake of the startling revelation of stolen funds by her domestic staff, the Office of the Special Prosecutor embarked on a comprehensive search of the minister’s residences, prompted by the staggering amounts that were reported stolen.
Startling details later emerged from the Office of the Special Prosecutor, that a substantial sum of US$590,000 in cash was unearthed during the search conducted at the Abelemkpe residence of the former Minister.
Concurrently, an astounding amount of GHC2.730,000 in cash was also discovered at the same address.
The Special Prosecutor took immediate action, seizing these substantial cash sums as crucial evidence to support the ongoing investigation.
The OSP subsequently froze the accounts of the former minister’s cedi and dollar accounts pending further investigations.
Background
It emerged on Friday, July 21 that two househelps of the Minister were facing charges before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly stealing an amount of $1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghanaian cedis at the former minister’s residence at Abelenkpe, Accra, in October 2022.
The two, 18-year-old Patience Botwe and 30-year-old Sarah Agyei allegedly stole the monies and personal effects of the couple, between the months of July and October 2022.

However, the member of the committee referred COP Mensah to their earlier meeting with Bugri Naabu, and said the former NPP Northern Region chairman had admitted the tape was authentic.
“Bugri said he was a chief ‘and as a Chief, I don’t lie. If I lie I will die,” the committee member quoted Bugri Naabu as saying.
He added that Bugri Naabu had admitted to recording the tape to serve as evidence.
However, COP Mensah in response said: “That is what the statement from Bugri Naabu. In that statement, he also mentioned that some Superintendent Kyebi called him and said that he was going to meet him at Cape Coast to go and see the President. We were all here when Supt. Kyebi denied that he never spoke to Bugri Naabu. Bugri Naabu came here to lie,” he said.

Trump makes not-guilty plea in Georgia election meddling case
Former President Donald Trump said he did not do anything wrong in the Georgia election interference case. He also decided not to go to the court hearing where the charges against him were explained.
The ex-president and 18 other people were accused this month of working together to change the results of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia. They are facing charges of racketeering.Ex-President Donald Trump talks to his supporters at a Farmers for Trump campaign event in Council Bluffs, Iowa on July 7, 2023.
Trump said that what he did was not against the law and that the investigation is driven by political reasons.
Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee has decided that the date of September will be chosen for an event. All 19 people will go to court to hear the charges against them and say if they are guilty or not guilty.
Other people who are accused — like publicist Trevian Kutti, Georgia attorney Ray Smith III, and former Trump campaign lawyer Sidney Powell — have also said they are not guilty to avoid going to court. -

Floyd, defendant detained over Georgia election case, freed from Fulton County Jail
Harrison Floyd, one of the 19 people accused of interfering with the election and being held in Fulton County, has been released from jail. He was the only one to stay overnight after turning himself in to the authorities last week. This information comes from the inmate database.
Floyd was taken into custody last Thursday and stayed at the facility for six days. He then paid bail and was released on Wednesday.
At his first court hearing last Friday, the judge, Emily Richardson, refused to give him bail. She said this was because of his past crimes and the possibility that he might try to run away.
I’m not someone who would run away, ma’am. I arrived earlier than the president, Floyd stated during the meeting.
On Tuesday, Judge Scott McAfee made a decision about Floyd’s bond. He said Floyd has to pay $100,000 as a guarantee that he will come back to court. This is the same as what the other 18 people involved in the case have to do. There are also some other rules that Floyd has to follow. He has to meet with someone from the court once a month before the trial starts. He is not allowed to talk to any of the people involved in the case without his lawyer being there. He also can’t do anything to threaten or stop the people who saw what happened from telling the truth in court.
The picture shows Harrison Floyd, who was booked by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office in August. On the date of September 24, 2023, in the city of Atlanta.
Floyd is one of 19 people who are accused of trying to change the outcome of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia. This includes former President Donald Trump. They are all facing multiple charges.
Floyd is being accused of trying to influence a witness and asking them to give false statements and writings. He allegedly tried to do this with Ruby Freeman, who works at the Fulton County election. -

Prior to the question, COP Mensah was being evasive about admitting the content of the leaked tape. He claimed that the tape was doctored and although he admitted that portions of the tape contained his voice, he denied being the speaker in other portions of the tape.

Israeli soldier killed by Palestinian in West Bank
A Palestinian driver crashed his truck into soldiers at a busy checkpoint in the occupied West Bank on Thursday, killing one soldier before being shot and killed by Israeli authorities. This incident is part of ongoing violence in the region.
The violence happened the day after Israeli police shot and killed a 14-year-old Palestinian boy who had stabbed a man at a train station in Jerusalem. Additionally, Palestinian militants set off a bomb near a group of Israeli soldiers who were protecting Jewish worshippers going to a sacred place in the West Bank, injuring four soldiers.
The unrest is a part of a wave of violence that has been happening for more than a year in the West Bank. It is the highest level of violence seen in this area in around twenty years.
According to Israeli officials, the person driving the car, who is a 41-year-old Palestinian from the West Bank, was going east towards the crossing when he saw the soldiers close to a bagel stand. He turned his vehicle around and crashed into the soldiers, who were wearing their official clothing.
An official from the Israeli military said that the driver had permission to work legally in Israel. He used a car with an Israeli license plate that he did not own to carry out the ramming. The person who spoke cannot be named because of military rules.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said that during the attack, one Israeli person died, and later it was confirmed that the person was a soldier in the military. The military said that three more soldiers got hurt. The military officer said that a Palestinian citizen of Israel who sells bagels was also hurt.
A video on social media showed a white truck being approached by security guards at the second checkpoint while shots were being fired. Palestinian media says the driver’s name is Tahaer Daras and he lives in Deir Ammar close to the city of Ramallah in the West Bank.
The place where the truck crashed into the soldiers is located on a big road that goes from central Israel to the West Bank and Jerusalem, and is close to the city of Modiin in Israel. The checkpoint is usually filled with people going to work and guards or soldiers.
Attacks by Palestinians against Israelis have increased as Israel has stepped up its arrests in the West Bank since last year. Over 30 people have died in Palestinian attacks on Israelis since the beginning of 2023.
These frequent raids that happen almost every night have made tensions rise in the area and have caused some of the worst fighting between Israel and the Palestinians in the West Bank since the last rebellion by the Palestinians in the early 2000s.
More than 180 Palestinians have died in the fighting, and almost half of them were part of militant groups, says an Associated Press count. Israel claims that the majority of those who were killed were militants, but there were also young people throwing stones to protest the invasions, as well as innocent people who were not involved but still died.
Israel says that the raids are being done to break apart groups of fighters who use violence, and to stop them from being able to plan and carry out more attacks in the future. Palestinians believe that these raids make their security forces weaker, encourage more violence, and strengthens Israel’s hold on the territories they want for their own state in the future.
Israel took control of the West Bank, east Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip during the war in the Middle East in 1967. -

British volunteer, 22, killed fighting in Ukraine
A young man from Britain has sadly died while fighting against Russian forces in Ukraine.
Sam Newey decided to help on the frontlines after Vladimir Putin’s invasion in February last year.
The young man, who was 22 years old, had to fight in many fights while serving in a country that was destroyed by war.
He didn’t have any experience in the military and he was part of a group of adventurous volunteers called the Dark Angels.
He died in the war in Ukraine on Wednesday, according to his brother Dan, who shared a heartfelt message on social media.
It says, ‘I am feeling very sad and hurt, but I don’t have the right words to describe how I feel. ‘ I want to stress how proud I am of my younger brother.
“He was only 21 years old when he made the decision to go to Ukraine and resist Russian Imperialism. ”Dan claimed that his brother “acted with courage, morality, and honour” and “gave his life for people he never knew.”
You’re not just my little brother, but also a remarkable man, a sterling soldier, and one of the bravest people I’ve ever had the honour of knowing, he said.
I appreciate you being a part of my life for the past 22 years so much. I will always adore you, brother.
Sam has also received several tributes on other social media platforms, with many hailing him as a “hero.”
The Sun reported that Sam, who was studying psychology at the University of Birmingham, chose to get involved in a conflict against Russia.
He chose to do what his brother did and joined the Dark Angels, a group started by a family friend, Daniel Burke, that fights for causes he believes in.
In June 2022, Sam filmed a video with a body camera showing the squad shooting a missile at a Russian position.
Videos showed the group secretly moving through an area with no people in the occupied Kherson province to launch the rocket attack.
It is said that Sam died because of a bomb attack. The person in charge, Mr. Burke, is also believed to have died after he disappeared in Zaporizhzhia and hasn’t been seen alive since August 11th.
Sam Newey, seen outside Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London in February 2020, was there because he and his father were accused of breaking the Terrorist Act. Their alleged crime was sending money to Sam’s brother in Syria. In 2020, Sam and his dad Paul were accused of helping Kurdish forces in Syria by giving money to their friend Dan who was fighting against Isis. They were charged with terror crimes.
They were accused of helping Daniel Newey unlawfully, while Paul was accused of giving money for terrorism, even though Dan’s military group controlled by the Kurds was supported by Britain and trained by the SAS.
Dan used to be a paratrooper and fought alongside the People’s Protection Units (YPG). A Syrian Kurdish group was active from late 2017 to June 2018.
The YPG is the main part of a group called the Syrian Democratic Forces. They were created to fight against the group known as the Islamic State, but Turkey and some other countries think of them as a terrorist organization.
A few people protested outside the Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London during the case. Later, the Crown Prosecution Service decided to drop the charges and take no further action.
In 2021, Dan said that he would prefer to stay in a place where there is a war happening, rather than being treated badly in the UK and being treated like a criminal. -

“Music is not a competition” – Medikal lashes out at fellow musicians
Ghanaian rapper Medikal has spoken out about the pressure on specific groups and individuals within the music industry to produce hit songs.
Addressing fellow musicians and industry stakeholders regarding what he terms as the industry’s mounting pressure, the Rapper emphasized that this relentless drive has led to a concerning fixation on achieving commercial success at any cost.
Sharing his thoughts with his followers on the X platform (formerly known as Twitter), Medikal expressed, “Ghana music is gradually losing its authenticity and distinctiveness due to the immense pressure imposed by certain factions. The essence of enjoyment and amusement is progressively shifting from mere entertainment to a predefined target. Note well: Music is not a competition.”
Historically, music has served as a platform for self-expression, narrative, and a reflective lens that captures both the triumphs and struggles of society.
Presently, however, the pursuit of “making it big” appears to overshadow these fundamental qualities. Artists like Medikal are finding themselves compelled to conform to standardized formulas that are perceived as more market-friendly, often yielding songs that lack the distinct nuances and genuine authenticity that have characterized Ghanaian music for generations.
According to Medikal, the vital “sauce” that has been an integral part of Ghanaian music is gradually becoming diluted under the weight of mounting expectations.
These sentiments follow the ongoing critiques that have surrounded the industry, particularly in the wake of the recent triumphs achieved by Nigerian stars such as Davido, Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Asake, all of whom have hosted groundbreaking concerts on international stages.

Martin Kpebu renews calls for Akufo-Addo to resign
Legal expert Martin Kpebu has reacted to President Akufo-Addo‘s statement delivered at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Super Delegates Conference held on Saturday, August 26.
On that occasion, Nana Akufo-Addo openly recognized the existence of a current economic crisis within the nation.
During a short engagement with the media, President Akufo-Addo conveyed his assurance that the party would choose a new leader with the capacity to steer the nation away from these difficulties.
“It’s difficult, I’m the first to admit it. I have said it several times, but at the end of the day I believe when the moment comes, the light will reflect on who best to get us out of this difficulty,” he said.
But Martin Kpebu says it does not have to take another year for the president to relinquish his post to allow for fresh polls.
Speaking on Joy FM, he indicated that the 1992 constitution provides a new electoral process to take place and find a new leader within three months.
“If he has admitted it this early, please let us have this election. In the next three months let’s have new leadership. That is what our constitution says.
“The Constitution has not said that when you are not up to the task, you can just continue in office for 4 years. No, it says we can have early elections, that is why the farmers put it in there.”
He urged the President to back his statement by triggering that law for that new figurehead to be voted in to trigger efforts towards reducing the hardships suffered by Ghanaians.
“Let’s have early elections. Let us decide. We are tired of this kakistocracy,” he told the host.

Security Analyst predicts next African president to be ousted by coup
Dean of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Dr Vladimir Antwi Danso, has warned that Senegal might face a coup in the near future within the sub-region if precautions are not exercised.
Drawing a distinction between the historical prevalence of military coups during the initial stages of independence for many African nations and the more recent threats faced by the West African region over the past three years, he urged Senegal to exercise caution.
More specifically, the security expert called for the president of the West African country to work at curtailing the rising levels of insecurity, heightened by the continuous demonstrations and other security issues.
Speaking in a yet-to-be-aired episode of The Lowdown on GhanaWeb TV, Dr Vadimir Antwi Danso, who now considers himself a prophet on security matters, said he is sure of this because he did same about the coup in Niger.
“A state like Mali was going to have a civil war and there was going to be an implosion – the country was going to be divided: the Tuaregs wanted the northern part of Mali, against the south, and that kind of thing. In such a situation, there would have been no Mali today if the military hadn’t struck. And they struck as a unit, as an arm of government, or let me call it an institution which was built to save the state in terms of crisis, and they did. So was Guinea, so was Burkina Faso.
“At that point, many of your colleagues who interviewed me, I predicted that Niger was a candidate for such a systemic coup and I think I’m a prophet; it has happened. Let me tell you, Senegal is a new candidate if Macky Sall doesn’t stop what is happening, and if ECOWAS doesn’t take steps to talk to Macky Sall,” he cautioned.
Gabon is the latest country to follow in the African countries in which military coups have taken place in, in the last three years.
The President of Gabon, Ali Bongo, was ousted by his cousin, Oligui Nguema, who served as aide-de-camp to the late president of the country, Omar Bongo.

Designer of Nigeria’s flag, Pa Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi reportedly dead
Pa Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi (OFR), the visionary mind behind Nigeria’s flag design, has passed away at the age of 86. He departed in the early hours of Tuesday following a brief illness, as confirmed through an announcement shared on the Facebook account of one of his children.
Reflecting on his remarkable journey, one of his children wrote, “Life’s fleeting nature is evident, yet my father’s legacy stands tall. Rest peacefully, Pa Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi (O.F.R.): An extraordinary soul has bid us farewell.”
Hailing from Abeokuta, Ogun State, Pa Akinwumi was born on May 10, 1936, and resided in Ibadan until his recent passing. His educational path led him through Baptist Day Secondary School and Ibadan Grammar School in Ibadan, where he laid the foundation for his future.
Commencing his professional life as a Civil Servant at the Ibadan Secretariat, Pa Akinkunmi’s ambitions eventually took him abroad, where he pursued studies in Agricultural Engineering at Norway Technical College.
In 1958, while overseas, fate intervened when Akinkunmi discovered an advertisement in a national newspaper soliciting designs for Nigeria’s national flag, timed to coincide with the country’s impending Independence from British rule. Among approximately 2,000 submissions, his design emerged as the victor.
Originally featuring a white central stripe flanked by vibrant green bands, with a red sun and its rays gracing the white segment, his design underwent revisions by the overseeing committee, eventually resulting in the flag’s current form.
Akinkunmi’s masterpiece earned its selection due to its profound symbolism—the verdant green bands symbolizing Nigeria’s lush forests and abundant natural resources, while the pristine white center representing peace.
On the momentous day of Independence (October 1, 1960), the Nigerian flag, bearing Akinkunmi’s thoughtful design, replaced the British Union Jack, marking a pivotal juncture in the nation’s history.
Upon the recognition of his achievement, the government awarded Akinkunmi a sum of 100 pounds. His contributions were further acknowledged when he received the MON (Member of the Order of the Niger) Award from President Goodluck Jonathan, a testament to his enduring impact on Nigeria’s identity and heritage.

Ukraine attacks Russian aircraft using £2,750 flat-pack cardboard drones
It is believed that Ukraine attacked an important Russian airbase this week using drones made of cardboard. These drones are said to be easier to assemble than IKEA flatpack furniture.
Kyiv says they hit one MiG-29 and four Su-30 fighter jets when they used a drone to attack the Kursk airfield in western Russia last weekend.
It’s believed that two Pantsir-S1 air defense systems and a radar connected to a long-range S-300 missile system were also harmed during the attack.
Around 16 small flying robots were used in the attack. It is thought that these robots were provided by Australians and are made of paper soaked in wax and rubber bands.
Experts believe that the low-quality features of the drones might make them very difficult for Russian detection systems to spot.
Every drone is delivered in a box that is easy to assemble and it only costs $3,500 (£2,750) to make.
Since March, Ukraine has had control of these aircraft. This happened because the Australian government promised to give Kyiv 100 of these planes every month. The deal is worth $20 million (£15. 7 million)
There are rumors that the drones were part of an attack on several military sites inside Russia on Tuesday night. One of the sites attacked was the Pskov airbase, which is near the border with Estonia.
Two large planes used for transporting things were destroyed in the attack, and two others were left broken but not completely destroyed.
There were new drone attacks in Crimea and three airports in Moscow, which led to big delays for flights. People were worried that there might be a strike in the capital city.
This week, Ukraine has been launching a lot more drone attacks on Russia and the areas it took control of. The military leaders are trying to figure out how the drones are able to get through their defenses. There are a few explanations as to why Russians could have impaired their air defenses, such as reallocating them for other purposes and deploying their top-notch equipment to Ukraine. However, the design of the SYPAQ drones is believed to be an important factor in the success of the attacks.
The plane is small and has a wingspan of a little over 6ft. It is made out of foam or waxed cardboard, which is not as good as metal at picking up radio waves from below.
The drones were not meant to attack the enemy, but to bring supplies to soldiers on the front lines.
But Ukrainians have created cardboard drones that can be used to carry out attacks in Russia.
Valery Romanenko, a drone expert from Ukraine, said that these drones were made in Australia.
‘They are already being used for strikes, which is a part of our modernization. ‘
According to reports, the drones were flown by a group in Russia called RDK. RDK is a paramilitary group that opposes Putin. They are suspected to have carried out the Kursk attack. The RDK said that after crossing the border, without being stopped, on the night of August 27, we attacked a military base using drones.
Russia is getting more and more worried about Ukrainian spies operating secretly within its borders.
The newspaper Kyiv Post said that there is some evidence that drones from Australia could be responsible for it, but there is no definite proof.
According to a Russian news outlet, the Ukrainian military recently used Australian SYPAQ kamikaze drones for the first time. They used these drones to attack a military airfield and an electronic warfare unit in the Kursk region during the night of August 27.
Last night, there were new drone attacks on Crimea, particularly near the town of Feodosia.
It was not clear what got hit.
During the fast and intense attack, the Russian region known as Bryansk was also affected. -

Two people killed as Hurricane Idalia converts Florida mansions into small islands
Hurricane Idalia has caused a lot of damage on the beautiful Gulf Coast of Florida. It has flooded towns near the coast and sadly, two people have lost their lives.
Idalia arrived in Florida around 7. 45am It hit an area in Florida called the Big Bend region, which is a rural and not very crowded place that is also known as Florida’s ‘Nature Coast. ‘
In simple words, the Big Bend area doesn’t usually get directly affected by hurricanes. This made the National Weather Service in Tallahassee describe the storm as something extremely rare and unexpected.
Idalia hit the area of Keaton Beach, which is not officially part of a city, directly. Keaton Beach is about 22 miles south of Perry and 20 miles north of Steinhatchee, a town by the coast.
The town is located where the river meets the sea, and it experienced very bad flooding shortly after the storm came nearby.
At 730am, the Steinhatchee River was 0. 83 feet above its usual height.
By 745am, the height had increased by 2. 49 feet more than usual. Just one hour later, the National Weather Service measured that the water levels were 8. 02 feet above the normal average.
Videos from Steinhatchee show that the flooding was very bad. The flood was so bad that some buildings were surrounded by the rising river water and looked like islands.
The NOAA said the water at Cedar Key was 6. 8 feet higher than usual. The people living there were asked to leave by the government.
Most of the 900 people living on the islands left before the storm came, but a few locals and emergency workers stayed behind.
Videos posted by Cedar Key Fire Rescue show that the streets of the island are completely flooded with water from the sea.
The agency said, “We will need everyone to be patient. ” They said that the tide will keep rising until twelve o’clock in the afternoon. Most of the roads near the city center are covered in water.
Afterwards, the emergency workers said that propane tanks were exploding all over the island while the storm was happening.
They told us not to go to Cedar Key.
The police in Florida announced that two people have died because of the bad weather.
The first person died in Gainesville at around 6:00am on Wednesday morning. While driving in very heavy rain, a driver went off the road and hit the trees.
There was another death in Pasco County, near the Big Bend. The driver was going too fast and crashed into a tree after sliding off the road. -

FBI detains man,67, for ‘trying to steal bank of $650 to pay rent’
A man was detained after reportedly attempting to steal a bank of $650 in order to pay his rent and stay off the streets.
According to a federal complaint that was released on Monday, the FBI detained Michael Noojin, 67, when he attempted to rob a Bank of America in Hollywood, Florida, of the money.
Noojin stood in queue to see a teller while donning a yellow polo shirt with sailboats and birds printed all over it, blue jeans, white sneakers and sunglasses.
Noojin waited as the teller promised to help him in a moment.
According to the complaint, when Noojin approached the teller and she asked for his debit card, he responded by saying that he had a gun and instructed her to put all the money in a bag.
At that moment, Noojin put a brown plastic bag under the glass in front of the teller.
Noojin said, “I’m serious, I have a gun. Please put the money in the bag. ”
According to the complaint, the person who was working at the counter did not see a gun and began to lock her drawer with money.
Two more people who heard what happened started locking their cash drawers and a loud alarm went off to get help quickly.
As the bank employees started to move away because they were scared, Noojin quickly took a bag from under a protective glass and ran out of the bank through an emergency exit in a direction that nobody knows.
In the afternoon of August 24, someone noticed Noojin from pictures of the bank robbery on the news. They then told the police where he was living in a halfway house in Hallandale Beach.
In the evening, police talked to Noojin at the halfway house and he admitted to stealing money from the bank.
The complaint says that Noojin said he robbed the bank because he needed money to pay his rent and he was very desperate.
‘He only had one more opportunity to get $650. 00 before he would become homeless. ’
Noojin has been accused of trying to steal money from a bank employee using intimidation. The money belonged to the bank and was in their control.
He is in FBI custody because the bank is insured by the FDIC. Noojin has to go to a court in Fort Lauderdale that is run by the government. -

Johannesburg fire: 73 people died in building fire in city centre
A fire in a building in Johannesburg has killed at least 73 people, including seven children. Over 50 other people got hurt.
The authorities are not sure what caused the fire at the five-story building in the city center. The building was empty, but homeless people were living there.
During a news conference, the city of Johannesburg admitted that they owned the building. However, they explained that it had been taken over by cartels.
The spokesperson for the emergency services, Robert Mulaudzi, told the BBC that firefighters were able to bring out some of the people inside.
He said the fire destroyed the building, and they were still looking for more people who might have been hurt or killed.
In a separate interview with Newzroom Afrika, Mr Mulaudzi said the youngest child who passed away was only 18 months old.
Officials who handle disaster management are there to assist and give help to people who have survived the disaster in that area.
Mr Mulaudzi said that once the emergency services were done looking for victims, they would give the scene to the South African police.
“We are going up the building to find and collect the bodies,” Mr Mulaudzi said.Mulaudzi shared a video on platform X (formerly known as Twitter) that showed fire trucks and ambulances outside a building. The windows of the building were burned.
In simple words: Pictures showed dead bodies placed in a row near the building that had caught fire.
A lady talked to reporters saying that she was outside the building looking for her 24-year-old daughter.
She said that when she heard the building was on fire, she had to come here quickly to find her.
Now that I am here, I feel anxious and unsure because I do not understand what is going on. I am feeling very worried because I don’t know if my daughter is safe or not.
The building is in an area that used to be a commercial district in South Africa‘s main economic center. Mulaudzi said that it was being used as a place where people lived without official permission. The inner city neighborhood is known for “hijacked” buildings, which means some undocumented immigrants, mostly from other African countries, have taken over these buildings illegally.
Mr Malaudzi informed the BBC that the building was empty before, but now homeless individuals have taken refuge there due to the extremely cold winter season.
He said that because there was no official agreement to live there with a contract, the building was not taken care of properly. Makeshift structures and trash made it difficult to find and save people.
Lebogang Maile, the politician in charge of housing in the province, said that there is a long-lasting problem with housing in the area, and there are 1. 2 million people searching for a place to live.
When the Mayor of Johannesburg, Kabelo Gwamanda, was asked if his administration would take the blame for the tragedy, he said that the government is handling the issue of cartels taking over buildings that is happening all over the city.
After the fire, lots of people in South Africa on social media are criticizing the harmful online attacks that certain individuals have made towards the fire victims and survivors.
