Sarkodie reveals he wanted to be a doctor

Ghanaian rapper, Sarkodie, in a candid revelation, shared that before his music career took flight, he had aspirations of becoming a medical doctor, highlighting his diverse talents and interests.

Had his path not led him to music, he expressed his genuine interest in pursuing a career in the medical field, but being a multitalented individual, Sarkodie also harbored plans of utilizing his other gifts and abilities to carve out a successful and fulfilling journey in whichever field he pursued.

“First, I wanted to be a doctor, I do arts; I paint, I sketch. So definitely something towards that direction…” he told NandoLeaks when asked about his passion aside music.

During his early days as an artist, Sarkodie revealed that his mother presented him with a crucial ultimatum concerning his career choice. She gave him a one-year timeframe to demonstrate his potential and establish himself in the music industry. If he failed to make significant progress within that time frame, his mother insisted he should consider returning to focus on his education instead. This ultimatum became a pivotal moment in Sarkodie’s journey, motivating him to work relentlessly and prove his talent as a successful artiste.

“She acted just like a regular African parent… they care about your future; they think their decision is the best for you. So I was lucky she gave me one year to prove myself and that was the same year that things started picking up. I was lucky. If it had skipped into the next year maybe I wouldn’t be sitting here with you,” he added.

  • Breaking The Slence’: 16-year-old traumatised by harrassment from auntie’s husband

“When he’s in the house, I’m not comfortable,” this is a painful confession of 16-year-old, Mawuse (not her real name) who has constantly suffered sexual harassment from the husband of her auntie.

The 16-year-old who resides with her auntie and her family has opened up about the emotional torment she endures at the hands of her aunt’s husband.

“When we are all asleep in the room, then he comes to where I am sleeping and when he sees that I am asleep, then he tries to take that as advantage to sleep with me but I wake up so I don’t allow him.

“At times when no one is around, and it’s only the two of us, then he tells me that it’s just the two of us so I should allow him to do one [have sex with me], he won’t tell anyone about that,” she recounted in a news report aired by JoyNews.

Mawuse’s life took a tragic turn when she lost her beloved mother, leaving her with an uncertain future. Seeking solace and support, she found refuge with her aunt and her family, hoping for a nurturing environment to heal her wounds.

However, the situation did not turn out as expected given the current situation with her aunt’s husband.

Her attempts to report the incident to her aunt were in vain, as her aunt did not take her seriously, but she later found out it was true when she caught her husband making advances towards the 16-year-old.

“One of my sisters who came to live with us also made a similar report about my husband to me, that’s how I believed her,” her aunt Aku (not her real name) said.

Aku desires to divorce her husband and report the incident to the authorities, but she finds herself unable to do so because her husband is the sole breadwinner of the family. She fears that taking such actions would result in her husband no longer providing for their children.

Aku was once involved in trade, selling tomatoes, but unfortunately, her business collapsed, leaving her with no choice but to rely solely on her husband for financial support.

Providing for Mawuse has become a struggle for Aku, as she lacks a source of income to assist her in fulfilling that responsibility.

Mawuse is at risk of facing eviction from school and missing her upcoming BECE exams due to her outstanding school fees of GHC470.

  • I wanted to sue ‘stroke’ rumor spreaders – KiDi

I wanted to sue ‘stroke’ rumor spreaders – KiDi

Ghanaian musician KiDi has opened up about the distressing experience he faced when false news about him suffering from a stroke began circulating.

In a recent interview on Daybreak Hitz at Hitz FM, the singer admitted that he was tempted to take legal action against bloggers who spread the fake news, as it not only caused discomfort for him but also for his family, friends, and the brands he collaborates with.

KiDi revealed that upon learning about the rumor, he turned to social media only to discover that it had already spread widely. The situation quickly spiraled, leading to an overwhelming number of concerned calls, including one from his worried mother, whom he had spoken to earlier and had to reassure about his well-being, along with others who were deeply concerned about him. The incident shed light on the negative impact of spreading misinformation in the digital age and its consequences on individuals and their personal lives.

“When it happed I called Richie 9CEO of Lynx Entertainment) and asked ‘how many times or for how long will these things happen and we will say it’s nothing? How long will we have to keep doing this? People are taking advantage obviously as you can see’. There needs to be some course of action,” KiDi said.

KiDi took to his social media to inform his fans about the cancellation of his tour, attributing the decision to unavoidable health issues, without delving into specifics. Unfortunately, this lack of information sparked speculations among the public, with some individuals propagating unfounded rumors that he was battling a stroke.

Lynx Entertainment’s CEO, Richie Mensah, swiftly dismissed these rumors, labeling them as clickbait and reaffirming that KiDi’s health concerns were being handled responsibly and appropriately.

Following the incident, KiDi made his return to social media in April, releasing a new single titled ‘I Lied’ shortly after. He also marked his first public appearance at the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), which served as an indication that he was on the path to recovery and ready to continue his musical journey.

  • 5 groups of people that can ‘kill’ your business – Kofi Amoabeng shares insight

5 groups of people that can ‘kill’ your business – Kofi Amoabeng shares insight

Prince Kofi Amoabeng, the founder of the now-defunct UT Bank, has offered valuable advice to business owners seeking long-term success for their ventures.

    1. Politicians and Pastors as “Necessary Evils”: According to Amoabeng, politicians and pastors can offer valuable connections and support to a business. However, he also warns that they may demand favors or financial benefits in return. It is essential for business owners to navigate these relationships carefully to avoid being taken advantage of.
    2. Chieftaincy Titles and Financial Drain: Amoabeng advises against accepting chieftaincy titles, as they can lead to financial burdens, especially in the form of expenses related to durbars and other traditional ceremonies. Such financial obligations could put a strain on the business.
    3. Family Members in Employment Practices: Amoabeng cautions against employing family members solely based on their relationship to the business owner. While there may be pressure from family and relatives to hire them, he advises that decisions should be based on merit and qualifications. If a family member doesn’t perform well in their role, the business owner should be willing to take appropriate action, including firing them if necessary.
    4. Creating a Positive Company Culture: Amoabeng emphasizes the importance of building a company culture that differs from what he describes as negative aspects of Ghanaian culture, such as laziness, jealousy, disrespect, and over-dependence on religion. Creating a conducive working environment is crucial for fostering growth and longevity in the business.

As with any advice, business owners should consider their unique circumstances and exercise prudent judgment in making decisions for their enterprises. While Amoabeng’s experiences and observations have shaped his perspective, individual contexts may vary, and careful analysis, ethical practices, and well-informed choices remain essential for achieving long-term success in any business venture.

  • It’s illegal to rent your properties to foreigners without permit – Lawyer

It’s illegal to rent your properties to foreigners without permit – Lawyer

Private Legal Practitioner, Lawyer Mildred Acheampong, has warned Landlords and Landladies to desist from renting apartments to non-citizens who do not have resident permits.

Speaking in an interview on XYZ TV, she stated that renting apartments has legal implications.

“It is so important to know whether a foreigner seeking to rent your apartment has a residence permit or not,” she said.

She stressed that the laws of the state frowns upon accommodating foreigners without permits since some may be fleeing their countries over various reasons, including running away from authorities in their home countries after committing crimes.

Additionally, she said Landladies and Landlords who fail to comply with the laws in relation to this are likely to be fined by the state.

She noted that although citizens from neighboring countries can come to Ghana using their ECOWAS cards and engage in trade activities due to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and other policies aimed at boosting trade and cooperation among African countries, such persons who wish to stay longer than the stipulated time for their trading activities need to seek resident permits.

“If someone does not have the permit and you host the person, it only means you’re hosting an illegal immigrant in your house,” she stated.

“Someone may have committed a crime in their native country and is seeking to take refuge in Ghana and has come to stay in your house. So any non-Ghanaian citizen seeking to reside in Ghana needs a definite resident permit,” she added.

  • Kaywa speaks on Lasmid’s ‘abysmal’ VGMA performance

Kaywa speaks on Lasmid’s ‘abysmal’ VGMA performance

Although Lasmid’s performance at the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) drew criticism, his former label boss Kaywa has opined that their involvement would have improved his stagecraft.

Kaywa, who recently revealed that Lasmid left the label with the assistance of the artist’s lawyer in Nigeria, revealed on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM that the performance would have been different if the composer of Friday Night had been helped by Highly Spiritual Music at the time of the awards ceremony.

“If we were directing him for a performance, he wouldn’t have done that,” he told the host Andy Dosty.

Even though Lasmid’s performance at the VGMA was disappointing, according to Kaywa, he was not pleased and he does not wish the musician any harm.

However, he said it is impossible to work with Lasmid again if he decides to come back to the label.

“There is no way we can work with him [again] because his decision was to go,” he said.

Kaywa recently revealed he did not have a contract with Lasmid after working with him for a year as part of his price package as a winner of MTN Hitmaker Season 8 in 2019.

At the time he wanted to officially sign him, Lasmid, through his Nigeria lawyer made some demands that he could not fulfil so they had to part ways.

Kaywa has explained that after taking a couple of years to push Lasmid’s craft, he luckily got his first hit, Friday Night which was his fourth song under the label.

It was after his second hit, Running that he decided to part ways with the label.

“If I begin to talk about what the investment is, you would know that we really went deep. Had a conversation with him and then we had to move to our next level. Then suddenly the conversation we had was sealed, was not written, but it was sealed with understanding both of us with evidence. Suddenly the narrative changes because now he’s become big and he’s been influenced by seeing people in our circle,” Kaywa told KMJ on Prime Morning.

Highly Spiritual Music currently has four new artists signed by Kaywa. They are Cadeen, Joe Vibe, Shuga Lord and Joe Verse.

  • Wole Soyinka defends Davido over video that made Muslims angry

Wole Soyinka defends Davido over video that made Muslims angry

Nigerian Nobel-Prize winning writer, Wole Soyinka, has come to the defense of Afrobeats sensation Davido following the controversy surrounding a music video that offended certain members of the Muslim community.

The music video in question was shared by Davido, featuring another artist signed to his record label, and reportedly depicted men dancing outside a mosque. This depiction sparked outrage among some Muslim circles, leading to the tearing down of Davido’s posters, as reported by local media.

In response to the situation, 89-year-old Wole Soyinka has taken a stand and advised Davido against issuing an apology. Despite the video being taken down, Soyinka is encouraging the popular musician not to succumb to pressure and maintain his artistic expression and creative integrity.

“I have not seen the clip, but I insist on the right of the artiste to deploy dance in a religious setting as a fundamental given,” Soyinka said.

Several high-profile figures have condemned the video, including former lawmaker Shehu Sani, who tweeted that Davido should apologise because fans were “offended” by the video.

Bashir Ahmad, an adviser to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, wrote to his 1.6 million followers that the content was “absolutely disrespectful hurtful and offensive”.

“We Muslims don’t mix our religion with jokes in any way,” he wrote, especially anything to do with prayers.

  • Flowking Stone discusses challenges promoting songs abroad

Flowking Stone discusses challenges promoting songs abroad

Hiplife rapper Kwaku Nsia Boama, professionally recognized as Flowking Stone, has shed light on the arduous challenges faced by Ghanaian artists when promoting their music beyond the borders of their homeland.

After relocating to the United Kingdom (UK) a few years ago, the rapper candidly revealed in an interview with Graphic Showbiz that he encounters difficulties in effectively promoting the songs he has released since his departure.

Flowking Stone further explained that back in Ghana, artists have the advantage of seamlessly moving from one media platform to another to promote their music. However, abroad, they are unfamiliar with the music industry’s structure, which makes it significantly more challenging for them to navigate and access the appropriate channels for effective promotion.

He said: “Yes, social media is there but it is not like being in Ghana and moving from one radio station or TV station to the other hyping up your songs.

Flowking Stone used the platform to discuss how poor the music structure of Ghana is.

In his words, he said that he does not see the country’s government’s involvement in the music industry, urging them to support the music industry because it is the only way they can also promote Ghana to the world.

He also said the government of Ghana should lay down structures for all Ghanaian artistes just like it has laid down structures for government workers like teachers and doctors.

“For example, professionals such as doctors and teachers have structures such as pension schemes, regulated revenues, etc. that are helping. I feel the same should be put in place to help us musicians.

“The government should be more involved in our music industry, after all, that is when they can have rights to push a national agenda through music,” he urged.

  • 7 percent of pastors in Ghana are real – Osofo Kyiri Abosom

7 percent of pastors in Ghana are real – Osofo Kyiri Abosom

Founder and General Overseer of Life Assembly Worship Center, Rev. Christian Kwabena Andrews popularly known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom, has asserted without proof that only seven percent of pastors in Ghana are ordained by God.

Osofo Kyiri Abosom made the remarks in an interview on Kingdom FM, where he noted that the vast majority of pastors in the country lack a genuine divine calling.

He maintained that only a small minority of religious leaders, approximately seven percent, have been anointed and chosen by God to serve in their pastoral roles.

“Pastors ordained by God are just a few, they are just 7%. The remaining are just ‘Bible pastors’,” he stated.

He noted that pastors who become pastors solely through formal training in theological institutions are not authentic pastors.

“Some go to school and they get there as a result of that, others also travel abroad and as a result of a failed life, and failure to get a job, and that’s how they ended up at the Bible school.

“Once you go to Bible school and become a pastor, it means you’re not ordained by God. Pastorship is a gift from God,” he noted.

The pastor made the comments in relation to his political ambition.

Kyiriabosom’s political career gained momentum in the lead up of and during the conduct of the 2020 general elections.

At first, it began as a mere joke, with some dismissing the news as a hoax and others resorting to ridicule and trolling.

He later surprised many when he decided to contest in the 2020 general elections. However, after the Electoral Commission declared the presidential election results, he left a lasting impact that transformed the way people perceive politics in Ghana.

As the presidential candidate of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), his venture seemed unrelatable, but it yielded far more significant outcomes than he could have ever envisioned, as he took third place after the election results were declared, beating a lot of political parties which have been in existence since time immemorial.

  • There is absolutely no need for having 16 regions — Kwesi Kyei Darkwah fumes

Renowned broadcaster, Kwasi Kyei Darkwah, has reignited conversations about the creation of the new regions.

During an interview on Accra-based Power FM, he asserted that there is absolutely no need for the new regions created.

“What do you need 16 regions in Ghana for? Ghana is just one state in Nigeria and 16 regions are totally needless,” he said.

According to him, the new regions are just an undue burden on the national purse.

“And with the creation of the 16 regions, you’re just telling me that we don’t have the mental capacity to manage a certain number of people because if you divide Ghana into just 6 regions, for 31 million people, and one region has 6 million people, then it makes sense to have a minister overseeing six million people. So why are we creating 16 regions?” he questioned.

He also asserted that the country lacks the needed resources to sustain the newly created regions.

“While creating the regions and creating positions, do you have the resources to give to them to do the work?” he asked.

  • Truth to power: I have been barred from speaking on GBC – KKD

Truth to power: I have been barred from speaking on GBC – KKD

Renowned broadcaster, Kwasi Kyei Darkwah popularly known as KKD, has come forward, with an allegation that he has been barred from speaking on any of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) platforms following explosive revelations targeting powerful figures in authority.

He made the remarks in an interview on Power FM where he disclosed that the ban is the result of some conflict of interest concerns he raised about the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, while giving a submission on one of the programmes hosted by the National Broadcaster, GBC.

“…due to my comments, the national broadcaster, GBC, has barred me from speaking on their platform,” he said.

He further expressed disappointment in the National Media Commission for failing to wade into the matter.

Mr Kyei Darkwa has recently been criticsing the current administration over what he says is bad governance.

He believes the Akufo-Addo-led administration is the worst since the country’s history.

In an earlier interview on Accrabased JoyFM, the veteran journalist explained that the Akufo-Addo government is the worst because of corruption, bad decisions, nepotism and poor policies.

He said the current government is also the worst when it comes to nepotism, favoritism and corruption.

“The intensity I bring to my craft cannot be matched by anyone” – Yul Edochie

Renowned actor Yul Edochie in a bold declaration on social media proudly referred to himself as the greatest of all times, asserting that his acting prowess remains unparalleled. Sharing a compelling clip of his performance in a movie scene, Yul Edochie reaffirmed his confidence in his craft, leaving no doubt about his self-belief as a formidable actor.

“One performance I love so much. When I say I’m the greatest, it’s no joke.
I am the greatest. Sealed. The intensity I bring to my craft cannot be matched by anyone,” he captioned the video.

His post has since generated mixed reactions on social media.

Yul, who is the son of the legendary actor, Pete Edochie courted the admiration of young Nigerians who were ready to support his presidential aspirations.

He was tipped and held in high esteem during the run-up to the 2023 general elections.

His goodwill, however, fizzled out when he announced the birth of his son with his second wife and colleague actress, Judy Austin.

He further invoked the wrath of Nigerians who accused him of not respecting his first wife, May with whom he has four kids.

Recently, he was accused by social media users of not mourning the loss of his son, Kambi who died early this year.

  • Revenues for ECG, Passport office surge due to digitisation agenda – Bawumia

Revenues for ECG, Passport office surge due to digitisation agenda – Bawumia

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has announced that the government’s digitisation agenda has achieved impressive results.

He said the agenda has helped in maximising revenue for the country through some major institutions in the country including the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Passport office.

Speaking at the National Development Conference under the theme ‘Moral Vision and National Development’, he noted that this has demonstrated the transformative power of technology in driving efficiency, revenue growth, and improved services across crucial sectors of the economy.

He also stated that this has been instrumental in curbing corruption.

“In times past, it used to be easy to lie about your age and get away with it, particularly in the government sector. At the port, for instance, we have introduced the paperless system, and this came with resistance. Some of the custom officers organized demonstrations against the move, but we were firm on our stance. Today, at the offices of ECG, you can buy your credit without any challenges.”

Providing data to back his claim, he noted that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has increased its annual revenue from 450 million cedis to 1.2 million cedis after the power distribution company went digital.

He also indicated that the passport office has witnessed a significant change in its revenue mobilisation, from GHC1 million cedis to 64 million cedis.

Government has been pursuing a digitisation agenda, which has mainly been pushed by the Vice President. Various initiatives and projects aimed at embracing technology and digital transformation are integral components of this agenda.

Commenting on the development, the Vice President indicated that many challenges associated with the digitisation drive have been dealt with as a result.

“The challenges with ECG initially were that the revenues of ECG were constant and the values were the same. We looked at the architecture of revenue of ECG and we changed it. They were collecting 450 million cedis a month as revenue. We sent in a team to work on their system.

“There were sabotage attempts, such as people sending viruses into the system to destroy our work, but we were resilient and brought in a whole new architecture for ECG. Today, they make over 1 million cedis as revenues monthly. The same happened at the passport office, which was making 1 million cedis to over 65 million cedis.”

Idris Elba reveals he was once threatened at gunpoint

Despite his roles in numerous movies portraying violence and guns, British actor Idris Elba’s real-life experience took a serious turn when an encounter left him contemplating the dangerous consequences.

According to The Daily Mail interview, the British actor, known for his work in The Harder They Fall and other films, found himself in a perilous situation when a man, mistakenly thinking Elba was hitting on his girlfriend, threatened him with a gun.

The frightening incident occurred in the United States and had serious implications, nearly jeopardizing the actor’s life.

“I nearly lost my fing life, after attempting to stop a man threatening his girlfriend outside a club,” the 50-year-old said. “A guy (was) whaling on his missus, screaming in her face, ‘I’ll fing kill you,’ and so on. I come round and I go ‘Look how beautiful she is. Why would you talk to this beautiful princess like that?’”

Things, however, went south afterward as Elba said the man “pulled out a gun, stuck it right in my face, and goes, ‘You talking about my girl?”’

“He thought I was trying to hit on her. I remember thinking, “Don’t play negotiations like that… Consequences, man,”’ he added.

Despite his successful career in Hollywood, Idris Elba had to resort to unconventional means to finance his acting aspirations when he first moved to the United States. In an interview on Sirius XM’s The Jess Cagle Show, the renowned star of “Luther” candidly shared that one of his “odd jobs” during that time involved selling weed. As previously reported by Face2Face Africa, Elba revealed that veteran comedian Dave Chappelle was one of his clients during this period of financial struggle. This glimpse into Elba’s past showcases the determination and resilience he exhibited while pursuing his acting dream.

“I went to a performing arts college and did two years of everything –– scene painting, a little ballet, a little contemporary dance,” Elba recalled. “I came out and basically went straight into work.”

The actor also recalled his first few years in the United States were tough. “It just all fell flat on its face very quickly for about four years,” he recalled. “In that time period, I did a lot of things that I’m not proud of. But I did a lot of the things.”

  • Victoria Beckham serenades husband with Spice Girls song

Victoria Beckham serenades husband with Spice Girls song

Contrary to previous indications, it seems Victoria Beckham, the renowned fashion designer and former Spice Girl known as “Posh Spice,” might not have completely abandoned her musical roots.

In a heartwarming and impromptu performance captured on video and shared on her TikTok over the weekend, Victoria Beckham delighted a small audience of cheering friends, including her husband, soccer star David Beckham, by serenading them with an iconic Spice Girls track.

With a microphone in hand, Beckham passionately sang the girl group’s beloved 1996 hit, “Say You’ll be There,” while joyfully dancing alongside her husband David, who enthusiastically joined in, singing along to every word of the nostalgic tune. This unexpected moment brought a wave of excitement and nostalgia, leaving fans speculating whether Victoria may have more musical surprises in store.

“Warming up the vocals in Miami! More to come,” Beckham wrote in the caption of the video.

Perhaps, the “more to come” tease in her caption means she’s ready to fully lean back into her 90s girl group roots.

That’s at least what fans seemed to think in May, when fellow Spice Girls member Melanie Brown told Sky News that “we are going to be doing some stuff, all five of us pretty soon, which is going to be announced.”

In 2019, the other four original members of the Spice Girls – Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell-Horner, Melanie Chisolm and Brown, also known by their nicknames Baby Spice, Ginger Spice, Sporty Spice and Scary Spice, respectively – reunited for a tour, while Beckham opted out.

The British girl group released their debut album “Spice” in 1996, and went on a hiatus in 2000 to pursue solo careers. The last time all five members of the Spice Girls performed together was in 2012 at the London Olympics opening ceremony.

As far as Beckham’s video from this weekend is concerned, well, she had a lot to celebrate.

The couple, along with two of their four children Harper and Cruz, were in Miami to watch soccer legend Lionel Messi’s debut with Inter Miami CF, a team David co-owns, and the couple appeared to have spent the night partying after the team’s big win against Cruz Azul on Friday.

Beyonce’s mother, Tina Knowles files for divorce

Mother of American singer Beyonce, Tina Knowles-Lawson has filed for divorce from Richard Lawson, citing irreconcilable differences, as per court documents obtained by PEOPLE. The filing indicates their date of separation as Tuesday, and she has requested to terminate the court’s ability to award spousal support to either party. Additionally, she seeks to have her name restored to Celestine Knowles. At the time of the report, there was no immediate response from a representative for Knowles-Lawson regarding the matter.

The former couple shared eight years of marriage after exchanging vows onboard a yacht in Newport Beach, California, on April 12, 2015. It marked the second marriage for both Knowles and Lawson, who began dating in 2013.

Knowles-Lawson split from her previous husband, Beyonce, and Solange Knowles’ father and former manager Mathew Knowles, in 2009 after more than three decades together.

They finalized their divorce in 2011.

The mom of two showcased their wedding day in an Instagram post on their third wedding anniversary by sharing a photo from the special occasion and writing: “Cannot believe it has been 3 years since we did the damn thing !!!! Walking on air ❤❤ I love you with my whole being and you feed my soul❤❤Happy Anniversary Baby❤❤.”

Her last Instagram post with Lawson came in March by sharing a photo from a Vanity Fair Oscar Party.

She wrote in the caption, “Never been one to waste some good light!!! so we had to sneak a picture at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party last night with my boo. @mrrichardlawson. The fashion designer spoke about their relationship during an appearance on the Tamron Hall Show last April.

“I’ve known Richard for 40 years, and when we reconnected, it was, just, I felt like, a gift from God,” she said. “I really mean that because I prayed. After I went through a divorce, it was pretty devastating after 33 years, and I always planned on, if it was in God’s plan, to get married again because I like being married. I like being in a relationship,”

Missing child enters police station from a distance of 1,000 miles

Missing child walks into police station from a distance of 1,000 miles. After her daughter, who went missing just days before her 15th birthday, was found safe more than 1,000 miles away four years later, the girl’s mother declared that “miracles do exist.”

On September 15, 2019, Alicia Navarro, now 18 years old, vanished over night from her Glendale, Arizona, home. I fled away, the note said, when her parents opened their eyes. I’m coming back. I vowed. I apologise.

There was no sign of the adolescent despite a thorough investigation that involved the FBI and received thousands of leads.

She didn’t seek to be removed from the missing children list until this past week when she appeared all by herself at a police station in a small Montanan town about 40 miles from the Canadian border.

Jose Santiago, a police spokesperson, stated during a news conference that “she is by all accounts safe, she is by all accounts healthy, and she is by all accounts happy.”

Navarro’s reunion with her mother was “emotionally overwhelming,” according to Lt. Scott Waite, and she was “very sorry (as) to what she has put her mother through.”

Jessica Nunez, the girl’s mother, verified the discovery of her child but said she had no other information.

She wrote on Facebook, “I want to give glory to God for answering prayers and for this miracle.”

“I want you to use this instance as an example for everyone who has lost a loved one. Miracles do happen. Keep fighting and never give up.

Mother of missing Alicia Navarro praises’miracle’ finding of her child

Although she claimed to be in the dark about her daughter’s whereabouts, she stressed that “the most important thing is that she is alive.”

Now that Alicia has vanished, detectives are attempting to put together what happened to the high-functioning autistic woman.

She allegedly told police that she hadn’t been hurt. They further stated that the adolescent is not under arrest and is free to come and go as she pleases.

She is not in any sort of jeopardy, according to Mr. Santiago.

As much as we’d like to say this is the conclusion, this is probably only the beginning of where this investigation will go, Lt. Implement film laws and policies that will not cripple industry – Peter Sedufia

Renowned filmmaker and CEO of Oldfilm Productions, Peter Sedufia has passionately appealed to governing film authorities, emphasizing the importance of avoiding the implementation of laws and policies that could hinder the progress of the film industry during the third Graphic Showbiz Forum held at the Multichoice office in Accra.

Mr. Sedufia acknowledged the necessity of proper regulations and guidelines within any sector to foster discipline and coordination. However, he urged the relevant authorities to exercise caution in their quest for structuring and regulation, as certain policies, though currently non-functional, could potentially impede the growth and prosperity of the film sector once enforced.

Highlighting the significance of having guidelines in place, Mr. Sedufia emphasized that regulation plays a vital role in establishing order and accountability. It ensures a well-functioning system that can drive the industry towards its desired state. Without proper regulations, chaos and uncertainty prevail, which hinder potential investments in the industry.

While appreciating the benefits of these policies, Sedufia expressed concerns that they should not become barriers to the sector’s growth. He disclosed engaging in conversations with the leadership of NFA (presumably the National Film Authority) regarding their proposed policies and laws, expressing hopes that they would not inadvertently cripple the film industry.

With an illustrious portfolio of works, including Aloe Vera, Sidechic Gang, and Keteke, Sedufia emphasized the global appreciation for relevant and compelling content, emphasizing that those who fail to align with industry standards may find themselves left behind in this fast-paced and competitive landscape.

Woman pees on plane floor since ‘flight crew wouldn’t let her use toilet’

A woman who claimed flight attendants would not allow her use the lavatory for two hours was caught on camera urinating on the plane’s floor.

Unsettling video that surfaced on Friday depicts a lady kneeling down onboard a Spirit Airlines aircraft while holding her pants down.

She can be heard telling the filming crew, “I need to p**s two hours, you tell me I cannot—you close the doors,” as they are filming her.

A staff member responds, “Say hello to the camera.”

The woman then pulls up her leggings as she adds, “The plane is stopped, I cannot hold the pee.”

Arresting me is preferable to this, the passenger continues, so you may do whatever you want and send a warrant.

A few weeks earlier, on July 10, one of the low-cost airline’s aircraft caught fire after touching down at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

A passenger on another aeroplane captured footage of flight 383 with flashes of flame and billowing clouds of dense grey smoke.

According to Spirit Airlines, a brake overheated while landing at roughly 9.25am, starting a small fire.

The jet was hauled to the gate, where everyone safely disembarked without incident, according to a spokeswoman.

“We appreciate the quick action of the Atlanta first responders in locating the aircraft. The aircraft will be taken out of service for maintenance temporarily.

According to airport personnel, every passenger deplaned without incident.

  • Gynaecologist sentenced to 20 years in prison for sexually abusing over 200 patients

Gynaecologist sentenced to 20 years in prison for sexually abusing over 200 patients

A gynaecologist who sexually assaulted over 200 patients over the period of two decades was given a 20-year prison sentence.

As a New York judge handed down the maximum prison term for Robert Hadden, 64, for his “unprecedented” crimes, he sobbed in court and apologised for “all the pain” he had caused.

At least 245 women reported being molested by Hadden during examinations spanning more than two decades, leading to his previous description as a “predator in a white coat.”

The case contained “outrageous, horrific, beyond extraordinary, depraved sexual abuse,” according to Judge Richard M. Berman, who described it as unlike anything he had ever seen before.

Nine of his victims gave testimony at the trial, outlining how Hadden sexually assaulted them while they were receiving gynaecology care at prestigious hospitals across New York starting in the late 1980s.

According to prosecution testimony, Hadden groomed his patients in a private office filled with images of his children while he spoke with them about their personal life, benefiting from the reputation of the institutions where he worked.

However, after a nurse or chaperone left the treatment area and he had isolated them, he fondled and prodded them with gloveless fingers and occasionally orally.

Because they were expecting, had health issues, had never seen another gynaecologist before, or simply had no other choice except to trust that Hadden was acting appropriately, many patients were particularly vulnerable, the court observed.

Hadden was first accused of misbehaviour in 2012, and after 19 complaints were made against him, he was later taken into custody in 2014.

Nevertheless, the Manhattan district attorney permitted him to enter a guilty plea to two low-level felonies and a misdemeanour, which resulted in the revocation of his medical licence but prevented him from going to jail.

Some of the women who had approached state prosecutors were upset, but their tales didn’t come to the attention of the general public until the #MeToo movement gained traction in 2017.

Hadden spoke to the court for the first and only time during the trial moments before the official sentence was read on Tuesday. He apologised for his crimes.

When Hadden was given the opportunity to speak, he stood with his hands folded in front of him and said, “There is much I’d like to say, but counsel has advised me to keep my statement brief.”

Before lowering his head and taking a new seat, the grieving Hadden remarked, “I’m very sorry for all the pain that I have caused.” He then removed his glasses and dabbed his eyes with a tissue.

Hadden still hasn’t admitted guilt, according to assistant US attorney Jane Kim, who made the statement on Tuesday.

Several dozen of Hadden’s accusers were present in the courtroom for his sentence, and several of them interacted with reporters and other attendees thereafter while discussing their feelings with one another and the media. Liz Hall, one of them, stated that she thought Hadden’s declaration of regret was insincere.

“That wasn’t an apology,” I said. In no way has he expressed regret or compassion. She said, “I believe he is incompetent.

The sentencing, according to Hall, should inspire other people who have experienced sexual abuse to come forward.

The judge’s decision marked the end of a protracted legal battle for the victims of Hadden, and the announcement was warmly received by the prosecution.

In a statement on Tuesday, US attorney Damian Williams said, “We thank and commend the victims who bravely came forward to share their stories and ensure that their abuser faces justice.”

  • AI threatens Hollywood writers’ job security

AI threatens Hollywood writers’ job security

Hollywood screenwriter Michelle Amor, among other television and film writers in the United States, expresses deep concern over the potential ramifications of artificial intelligence (AI) on their careers, fearing the possibility of being substituted with artificial creations; a major demand of theirs during the strike is for studios and streaming platforms to commit to strict constraints on the future implementation of AI-driven writing tools, including but not limited to ChatGPT, stipulating that AI should be exclusively utilized for research purposes and must never serve as a replacement for human writers, a condition they seek to have explicitly documented to safeguard their livelihoods and creative contributions.

“My mother’s union job as a packer for 35 years was replaced with robotics,” says Ms Amor, who currently has two TV projects in development – The Honorable and PG County.

“That’s understandable because it’s a labour intensive job, but we create art. Who wants a fake Picasso?”

Ms Amor, who says she is adamantly against the use of AI in screenwriting, adds: “We writers are the heart and soul of this entire industry. No-one works until we do – everyone knows it.”

Fellow screenwriter Melissa Rundle says she was shocked at how quickly ChatGPT became a core issue of the ongoing labour dispute.

“I was surprised at first, because Chat GPT appeared seemingly out of nowhere – but as soon as I became more familiar with its ever-increasing capabilities it became a concern,” says Ms Rundle.

She has written TV series Kung FU and the movie Cup Of Love, among numerous other projects.

“It’s likely here to stay, and we need to cope with the disruption. Writers are not trying to stop progress – we’re just trying to build in some basic protections against employers who have proven time and time again they won’t hesitate to exploit us if given the chance.”

Ms Rundle continues: “At a minimum, we are fighting for regulated use of AI on projects, and a firm understanding that it cannot write – or re-write – any literary material. Nor can it be used as a source material either.

“I saw a great sign on the picket lines that read ‘AI doesn’t have childhood trauma’ and this is truly important.

As writers we are creating stories that touch people and oftentimes digging deep into our soul – this is storytelling at its most sacred and should never be robbed by a machine.”

Elliott Kalan is a comedian and screenwriter, whose credits include The Daily Show With Jon Stewart and Mystery Science Theater 3000.

He says that one of the biggest challenges writers now face is the threat of studio executives using AI to generate original ideas for movies or TV series.

“Rather than buying an original screenplay or television series, or even hiring a writer to adapt an existing work into a new medium, they’ll try to have a computer program spit out ideas for shows or movies – then pay a writer a small amount to rework it and make it presentable and interesting,” says Mr Kalan.

“If that happens, writers will lose a lot of the compensation they should be receiving for their ideas and their work, as well as losing the chance to really contribute something meaningful to audiences.”

Nevertheless, Mr Kalan can see the potential for AI to help writers. “Ideally, AI should remain an optional tool used for organising information – or for communicating ideas.”

AI raises hard, important creative and legal questions for everyone, says Scott Rowe, a spokesperson for The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.

This is the trade association that represents the studios and streamers, such as Warner Bros Discovery, Disney, Netflix and Apple.

“We’re creative companies and we value the work of creatives,” says Rowe. “The best stories are original, insightful and often come from people’s own experiences.

“For example, writers want to be able to use the new AI technology as part of their creative process, without changing how credits are determined, which is complicated given AI material can’t be copyrighted. So it’s something that requires a lot more discussion, which we’ve committed to doing.”

Chung Xia is a founding partner of Silicon Valley-based technology investment firm TSVC. He envisages a future where sitcom writers use AI-generated scripts as a foundation for further development.

“AI algorithms will analyse existing scripts, comedic patterns, and audience responses, to generate content with comedic timing, character dynamics, and engaging storylines,” he says.

“Writers will then infuse their creative expertise, adding their wit, humour, and original ideas to refine the AI-generated material.”

He adds that this collaborative process between AI and human writers will optimize comedic impact, pacing, and character development.

“Through this iterative approach, AI will provide data-driven insights that aid in creating resonant storylines for the target audience. Ultimately, the integration of AI-generated content and human creativity will lead to enhanced sitcom scripts that maintain their unique voice, while benefiting from the AI-generated insights.”

John Pollono, a writer, director and actor, is not impressed with the suggestion that AI can be used to write the first drafts of scripts.

He says that the idea of AI “scouring” all past movie scripts “to inform future ones” is “messed up and incestual”. “It is like using the same playdough over and over again.”

Mr Pollono, who has written the screenplay for upcoming comedy crime movie Riff Raff, which will star actors Jennifer Coolidge and Brian Cox, adds that writers are at risk of having their voices “robbed”.

However, fellow screenwriter Sara Bibel says AI will never be any good at creative writing.

“It’s a glorified auto-correct that throws together random combinations of words based on coding,” says Ms Bibel, whose writing credits include long-running US TV series The Young & The Restless.

“All it does is plagiarize what has been fed into the system and is not capable of writing anything.”

Irish singer Sinéad O’Connor dies at 56

The Irish singer and activist Sinéad O’Connor has passed away at the age of 56. The news was announced by her family “with great sadness,” and they expressed that her family and friends are devastated. The specific cause of her death has not been disclosed.

Sinéad O’Connor gained worldwide fame for her iconic single “Nothing Compares 2 U,” released in 1990, which topped the charts and became her most well-known work.

Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister) Leo Varadkar acknowledged the universal adoration for her music and praised her unparalleled talent.

Irish President Michael D Higgins commended O’Connor for her authenticity and acknowledged her beautiful and distinctive voice. Her legacy as both an artist and an advocate will be remembered by many.

“What Ireland has lost at such a relatively young age is one of our greatest and most gifted composers, songwriters and performers of recent decades, one who had a unique talent and extraordinary connection with her audience, all of whom held such love and warmth for her,” he said.

Born Sinead Marie Bernadette O’Connor in Glenageary, County Dublin, in December 1966, the singer had a difficult childhood.

As a teenager, she was placed in Dublin’s An Grianan Training Centre, once one of the notorious Magdalene laundries, originally set up to incarcerate young girls deemed to be promiscuous.

One nun bought her a guitar and set her up with a music teacher – which led to the launch of O’Connor’s musical career.

She released her first critically acclaimed album The Lion And The Cobra in 1987, which entered the top 40 in the UK and US.

Her follow-up was I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got, which included Nothing Compares 2 U.

Written by Prince, the song reached number one around the world, including in the US and the UK.

O’Connor, who was outspoken in her social and political views, released 10 studio albums between 1987 and 2014.

In 1991, she was was named artist of the year by Rolling Stone magazine and took home the Brit Award for international female solo artist.

The following year, one of the most notable events of her career took place when she ripped up a picture of Pope John Paul II on US TV show Saturday Night Live, where she was the invited performer.

Following an acappella performance of Bob Marley’s War, she looked at the camera and said “fight the real enemy”, a protest against child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church.

Her actions resulted in her being banned for life by broadcaster NBC and protests against her in the US, which saw copies of her records destroyed in New York’s Times Square.

“I’m not sorry I did it. It was brilliant,” she said in an interview with the New York Times in 2021.

O’Connor’s last studio album, I’m Not Bossy, I’m The Boss, was released in 2014.

Converting to Islam in 2018, the Dublin singer changed her name to Shuhada’ Sadaqat, but continued to perform under her birth name. She released a memoir, Rememberings, in 2021.

In January 2022, her 17-year-old son Shane was found dead after being reported missing two days previously.

Writing on social media following his death, she said he had “decided to end his earthly struggle” and requested “no-one follows his example”.

The singer later cancelled all live performances for the rest of 2022 due to her “continuing grief” following the death of her son.

O’Connor paid tribute to Shane in one of her final tweets, calling him “the love of my life, the lamp of my soul, we were one soul in two halves”.

Belfast filmmaker Kathryn Ferguson, one of the last few people to speak to O’Connor before her death, said she was “devastated” by the news.

Ferguson had been working on a documentary film about O’Connor, titled Nothing Compares, which is set to be released this Saturday.

“Our film really, for me, it was a love letter to Sinéad. It was made over many, many years,” she told BBC Radio 4’s Front Row. “And made because of the impact she’d had on me as a young girl growing up in Ireland.

“She is one of the most radical, incredible musicians that we’ve had. And we were very, very lucky to have had her.”

Social media was also flooded with tributes to the singer after her death was announced on Wednesday evening.

Singer Alison Moyet said O’Connor had an “astounding presence” and a voice that “cracked stone with force by increment”.

“As beautiful as any girl around & never traded on that card. I loved that about her. Iconoclast.”

Irish comedian Dara O’Briain said of her death: “That’s just very sad news. Poor thing. I hope she realised how much love there was for her.”

Musician Tim Burgess of the Charlatans said: “Sinead was the true embodiment of a punk spirit. She did not compromise and that made her life more of a struggle. Hoping that she has found peace.”

Irish author Marian Keyes described O’Connor’s death as “heartbreaking”.

“How she suffered. Poor, poor Sinéad. Rest in peace, you amazing, brave, beautiful, unique wonder.”

Journalist Caitlin Moran posted: “She was decades before her time, and fearless. Rest in power, queen.”

Irish film director Mark Cousins added: “Sinéad O’Connor was our Irish wild side. Such a big part of our imagined lives.”

Singer Bryan Adams, who had collaborated with O’Connor, wrote: “RIP Sinéad O’Connor, I loved working with you making photos, doing gigs in Ireland together and chats, all my love to your family.”

In a Twitter post, Irish mixed martial arts star Conor McGregor, who O’Connor once sang into the ring for a UFC fight in Las Vegas, wrote: “Ireland has lost an iconic voice and one of our absolute finest, by a long shot. And I have lost a friend.”

Evidence of alien spaceships may ‘change the world’ – UFO expert

The world could alter as a result of the evidence presented at today’s congressional hearing on unexplained aerial phenomenon (UAP), according to renowned UFO expert Nick Pope.

An oversight committee will hear testimony from three former intelligence and military officers who will discuss their encounters with UAPs.

David Charles Grusch, one of the three, gained notoriety in June when he claimed that the US government was concealing tangible proof of “intact and partially intact” alien vehicles.

He further claimed that information regarding the cars was being withheld from Congress and that he had faced reprisals from officials after providing Congress with sensitive information about the vehicles.

He will say this today: “In a time of division and strife, our investigation into the UAP issue seems to connect with an urgency and fascination that cut through political, social, and geographic borders.
newest information from the UFO Congress hearing

“A democratic process must be followed when analysing the data, and it is our collective duty to make sure that public participation is promoted and respected.”

Before the hearing, Mr. Pope declared: “Today’s hearing is historic.” Under oath, witnesses will appear before Congress, including military pilots who have seen UFOs and a former member of the US government’s UAP Task Force.

These folks are respectable, qualified specialists, and by emphasising the consequences of the phenomenon for defence, national security, and aircraft safety, this will help the process of bringing this hitherto taboo subject into the mainstream.

Former UK Ministry of Defence employee Mr. Pope is a journalist and broadcaster. While there, he oversaw the government’s UFO programme, which looked into UAP sightings.

All eyes will be on former intelligence officer David Grusch, who asserts that the US has found ships and bodies connected to what he calls a “non-human intelligence,” according to Mr. Pope.

The main issue will be if he can provide Congress with any information that will enable US lawmakers to validate his assertions. These assertions are not new, but they frequently originate from unnamed or dubious sources.

“Grusch is a real insider who took part in the US intelligence community’s research and examination of UAP,” says one source.

If his statements are accurate, the world will alter.

  • Wildfires rage in Portugal as flame ignites national park close to Lisbon

Wildfires rage in Portugal as flame ignites national park close to Lisbon

At least nine Mediterranean nations, including the Greek islands of Corfu and Rhodes, have been affected by wildfires that have now reached Portugal.

Strong winds have made it more difficult for firefighters to put out the fire that has engulfed Cascais, a popular vacation spot 40 minutes to the west of Lisbon.

At 5 o’clock on Tuesday, hundreds of firemen rushed to the still-active wildfire in the hilly Sintra-Cascais area, which spans an area of about 145 square kilometres (56 square miles).

Strong winds led the flames to spread, so desperate locals have been using hosepipes and buckets of water to try to put out the fires in their homes.

After the wildfire started, about 600 firemen were dispatched, and water bombing aircraft have also been employed to fight the blaze.

Ines Figueiredo, 34, expressed her concern that it will eventually reach the homes as smoke filled the air.

We provide as much assistance as we can by providing buckets of water. but it doesn’t have much value.

The mayor of Cascais, Carlos Carreiras, stated that gusts of up to 60 kph would be the main challenge. As a precaution, several residents had been evacuated.

Local citizen Miguel Medeiros, who has assisted the firefighters in putting out the flames, said, “They (firefighters) do what they can.” “It’s challenging for everyone.”

According to local authorities, no homes have yet been damaged, and no serious injuries have been reported.

Although Portugal has so far avoided the wildfires raging across southern Europe, it is often the country most severely affected by wildfires.

This July, there have been reports of extreme weather patterns all around the world, notably in China, the US, and southern Europe.

Large wildfires in the Mediterranean have claimed the lives of over 40 people.

Up to 34 fatalities and 1,500 evacuations have been reported in Algeria as wildfires have been raging there recently.

Two pilots perished when their Canadair firefighting aircraft fell into a gorge on the island of Evia, which is located close to Athens.

Storms in the north and heatwaves in the south have both affected the weather in Italy.

An elderly woman, 88, was also found dead nearby Palermo, Sicily, while a fourth fire victim, a 98-year-old man, was discovered in Calabria, which is located just east of Sicily.

In the meantime, two people died on Tuesday as a result of falling trees during the storms in the northern part of Italy.

As wildfires currently flare on the islands of Corfu and Evia, Greece is now planning for additional evacuation flights from Rhodes.

Just before three in the morning, a driver of a Toyota Camry struck a guardrail on Interstate 15 near San Diego, sparking a fire that resulted in the rescue.

A passing FedEx driver noticed the smoke and stopped to help the driver and any extra passengers just before the car began to explode repeatedly.

The moment the FedEx worker pulled the man from the car was caught on camera by ABC 10 San Diego just before the blasts brought more flames to the inferno.

The car was still actively on fire when he arrived, he claimed. To see if you can do anything at all, you must stop.

According to ABC 10, the Camry was travelling south on the motorway close to state Route 52 when it slammed into the guardrail and burst into flames.

Right away, the car caught fire, and it continued to burn for several minutes before the good Samaritan FedEx driver arrived on the scene.

The driver was confined inside the automobile when the FedEx worker leaped out of the car and dashed to the driver’s side door.

Quickly removing the man’s seatbelt, he dragged him out of the vehicle and to safety next to the motorway.

Early on Wednesday morning, a delivery driver is captured on camera tugging a man by the arms while another driver offers assistance.

Fortunately, the other car who had stopped had a fire extinguisher and utilised it to put out the fire before firefighters arrived.

The motorist was sent to Sharp Memorial hospital with at least a major leg injury and was awake throughout the entire experience.

The cause of the altercation is unknown, according to the authorities, and the California Highway Patrol is currently looking into the situation.

Ukraine launches a counter offensive as thousands of soldiers rushed to front lines

Thousands of Ukrainian soldiers and armoured vehicles have gotten closer to the front lines in anticipation of the long-awaited counteroffensive against Russia.

Volodymyr Zelensky, president of Ukraine, made a commitment in June to start a counteroffensive against the illegal Russian invasion; it appears to have started this week.

Soldiers were sent to the front lines of Zaporizhzhia yesterday, the Telegraph reports, and Mr. Zelensky lauded their “very good results.”

This operation, which might last up to three weeks, will see the Ukrainian force move south and cut off a land route to Crimea.

Along the front line, artillery skirmishes broke out, and it was believed that the Ukrainians had over 100 armoured vehicles, including Bradley Fighting Vehicles and Leopards produced in Germany and the United States.

The forces of Mr. Zelensky are already launching counterattacks in Bakhmut and Donetsk.

The disagreement between the local Russian leadership, according to US security forces, is the reason Ukrainian officials are concentrating on Zaporizhzhia.

Major General Ivan Popov, the regional Russian commander, allegedly said he was fired after bringing up battlefield concerns with his superiors, according to a US official.

The official remarked, “The Russians are overworked.” They continue to have issues with supplies, personnel, logistics, and weapons. They can sense the pressure.

Russian minefields, shelling, and air attacks have prevented Ukrainian troops from making much progress in driving the Russians back along the southern front.

The offensive in the country’s east and southeast that are under Russian control is moving more slowly than Mr. Zelensky would prefer, he previously acknowledged.

However, Mr. Zelensky stated in a video address on Wednesday night that “our boys had very good results at the front today.” Well done to them. Details will be provided.

Missing British woman discovered dead in Turkey on side of road

A British pensioner was found dead by the side of the road in the Turkish province of Antalya.

The unnamed 74-year-old Alzheimer’s patient was apparently discovered unconscious close to a forest area, close to the Asmaca neighbourhood. She has been identified as having the illness by the local media.

Within two days of her absence, onlookers found her body.

Emergency services responded swiftly, but the cause of her death has not yet been determined.

Coroners are scheduled to perform a post-mortem examination at the mortuary later this week.

In Turkey‘s southern Mediterranean region, Antalya is a favourite vacation destination for Britons.

However, it’s unclear if the pensioner was a resident or had just visited for a vacation.

  • British rapper allegedly thought to be ‘ISIS Beatle discovered dead in his cell

British rapper allegedly thought to be ‘ISIS Beatle discovered dead in his cell

Former British rapper ‘Jihadi’ John, who was once suspected of being an ISIS killer, was found dead in a police holding cell.

In Madrid, Spain, earlier this month, 32-year-old Abdel-Majed Abdel Barry was on trial for allegedly being the head of an itinerant jihadist cell that he reportedly set up after fleeing Syria. He had been expecting the verdict in his case.

One source claimed that there were no physical signs of abuse on his body and that he was believed to have been discovered dead at a prison at El Puerto de Santa Maria, Cadiz, Spain.

After allegedly ignoring a wake-up call, his lifeless body was later discovered by jail officers.

His family will be permitted to conduct their own autopsy as part of an internal probe by the Spanish Prison Service.

A further investigation will also be conducted by the court in El Puerto de Santa Maria.

In April 2020, he and another man were apprehended after being smuggled onto a beach in southeast Spain.

Although Abdel Barry was born in Egypt, his British citizenship was revoked after it was determined that he had joined ISIS.

He was charged and taken into custody at a covert flat in Almeria, Spain, following a protracted inquiry.

He allegedly opened a second-floor door to get a kebab takeout from an Uber Eats kebab delivery man when cops recognised him by his ears and arrested him.

At the time of Abdel Barry’s arrest, a spokesperson for the Spanish National Police stated: “National Police officers have developed a counter-terrorism operation that has culminated in the arrest in Almeria of one of the most wanted Daesh foreign terrorist fighters in Europe.”

“An additional two people have been detained, and the authorities are working to determine both their identities and their connections to the other man.”

When he was detained in Almeria in April 2020, Abdel Barry claimed to be a Syrian citizen by the name of Ahmed Mohamed Al Oulabi.

Less than a week before he was discovered and detained, investigating judge Maria Tardon came to the conclusion that Abdel Barry had been brought into Spain by boat with two Algerian males.

He received a nine-year prison sentence warning in court.

He vehemently disputed all allegations of terrorism during the trial and stated he had never visited Syria before, claiming he had gone there to perform humanitarian work.

He was accused of fraud as well as membership in a criminal organisation.

In a pre-trial charge, the prosecution claimed that he used bitcoin to purchase counterfeit or stolen bank cards on the Dark Web.

Additionally, it was claimed that Abdel Barry had uploaded a picture of himself on Twitter from Syria clutching a severed head with the remark, “Chillin’ with my homie or what’s left of him.”

He denied being the person during the trial.

Al Qaeda and all other violent extremists, Abdel Barry proclaimed to the court, I abhor them. I disagree with their philosophy and behaviour.

In a pre-trial indictment, he was charged with conspiring with Abderrazak Seddiki, 30, and Kossaila Chollouah, 27, and charged with playing other significant roles in the fraud, including carding, a type of credit card scam in which a criminal steals or fraudulently uses credit card information to purchase prepaid gift cards.

A crucial suspect in the search for the man known as the Jihadi was Abdel Barry. James Foley, an American journalist, was cut down on camera by John as he bragged about beheading him.

Mohammed Emwazi, a Londoner, was later revealed to be Jihadi John in February 2015.

Abdel Barry was initially thought to be one of four Islamic terrorists who went by the moniker “The Beatles” due to their British accents.

Swimmers scream in terror after seeing two sharks off Spanish beach

Upon spotting two sharks near to the coast, lifeguards at a well-known Spanish beach warned swimmers to leave the water.

The two predators had arrived on Monday at the picturesque El Port de la Selva beach on the Costa Brava in the extreme northeast of Catalonia, where they startled swimmers.

The first to spot ominous fins piercing the water’s surface were people canoeing away from the beach. They immediately notified the neighbourhood lifeguards, who then raised the red flag.

Agents from Civil Protection took a look around after everyone had left to see if they could locate the creatures, which were believed to be blue sharks.

The swimmers went back into the ocean when they were unable to find any sign of them.

That is, until the sharks were spotted once more barely 30 minutes later.

Locals and visitors splashed their way out of the water once more, but authorities

On June 21, one was seen on camera leaving a pier on the island of Arousa, which is located on the other side of the Iberian peninsula from El Port de la Selva in the Galician province of Pontevedra.

On the Costa Brava in Catalonia, Spain, El Port de la Selva is a municipality in the Alt Empord comarca.
This year, there have been numerous sightings around the Spanish coast, including this one in El Port de la Selva (Image: Getty Images).

Within a week, a shark had been spotted four times in the waters around Spain.

Among the others was a fully developed, seven-foot blue shark that sparked fear south of the well-liked vacation spot Alicante.

Despite having a frightening appearance, blue shark attacks on people are extremely uncommon.

One was spotted in the water over the weekend at Le Barcarès, a French community located not far up the coast from El Port de la Selva.

In a statement to The Times, lifeguard chief David Simian said: “Lifeguards got a boat out and realised it was a shark.

It was a blue shark, which poses no danger to people.

Ukraine was responsible for the bombing of Crimean bridge in October – Security chief admits

As stated in Ukraine’s security service‘s first-ever statement, the bomb strike that seriously damaged Russia’s bridge to Crimea last year actually took place.

A criminal inquiry into the explosion on October 8 that claimed three lives will be opened, according to the chairman of the Russian investigative committee. He described what happened as a “terrorist act.”

In response to the tragedy, President Vladimir Putin stated that there is no doubt that the attack was a terrorist act meant to obliterate crucial civilian infrastructure.

This was conceived up, carried out, and ordered by Ukrainian special services.

Vasyl Malyuk, the chief of the Ukrainian Security Service, stated yesterday that the Russian leader’s assumptions about who was responsible for the bombing were accurate in every way.

He said, “There were many different operations, special operations,” when speaking on public television.

After the triumph, we’ll be allowed to talk openly and aloud about some of them, but not at all about others.

It was one of our deeds, specifically the fall of the Crimean bridge on 8 October of last year.

High-profile members of the administration of the nation were gloating over Russia’s humiliation shortly after the attack, despite the fact that this was the first public confirmation of Ukraine’s involvement.

Mykhailo Podolyak, Volodymyr Zelensky’s advisor, tweeted shortly after Putin’s remarks: “Putin accuses Ukraine of terrorism? Even for Russia, that sounds too cynical.

‘Less than 24 hours ago, 12 missiles from Russian aircraft were fired into a Zaporizhzhia residential area, killing 13 people and wounded more over 50.

There is only one terrorist state present, and everyone in the world is aware of it.

Mr. Malyuk’s statement came less than two weeks after another surface drone strike damaged the Crimea bridge, which was constructed in the years following Russia’s 2014 annexation of the peninsula.

The latest attack, which killed two and injured their daughter, left a section of the road dangling perilously.

The bridge, which is largely regarded as Putin’s vanity project, has been a crucial route for military and civilian supplies during the current conflict.

  • Irish music pioneer Sinéad O’Connor passes away at age 56

Irish music pioneer Sinéad O’Connor passes away at age 56

    Ireland’s Sinéad O’Connor, a singer, passed away.

According to a statement from her family, she passed away at the age of 56.

The statement states, “We announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad with deep sorrow.”

In a statement to RTE, they added, “Her family and friends are inconsolable and have sought privacy at this very trying time.

The singer-songwriter, whose name was Shuhada’ Sadaqat until she permanently changed it to Shuhada’ Sadaqat in 2018 after converting to Islam, is credited with 10 studio albums, with Nothing Compares 2 U reaching the Billboard charts at number one worldwide in 1990.

O’Connor made the Prince song, which had previously been covered by several artists, her own, and it quickly rose to the top of the charts everywhere.

A close-up view of the shaven-headed vocalist singing the ballad with tears streaming down her cheeks was virtually the only thing in the understated but unforgettable companion video.

O’Connor remarked that when singing, she would think of her mother.

Her second album, I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got, sold more over seven million copies globally while her first, The Lion and the Cobra, was published in 1987.

In addition to playing on 2014’s Band Aid 30 with artists like One Direction and Ed Sheeran to raise money for the Ebola outbreak, she has worked with people like U2 frontman Bono throughout her career.

O’Connor published a memoir called Rememberings in 2021 in addition to her music.

Throughout her career, she advocated for others and was outspoken about her difficulties with mental illness, activism, and religion.

O’Connor received a standing ovation when she accepted the first-ever award for Classic Irish Album for I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got earlier this year at the RTE Choice Music Awards.

‘Each and every member of Ireland’s refugee community,’ the singer said in dedicating the honour to them all.

Leo Varadkar, the Taoiseach of Ireland, led the tributes, expressing his regret at Sinead O’Connor’s passing.

“Her talent was unmatched and beyond compare, and her music was loved all over the world.”

Sinead was the biggest star I’ve ever met, said Laura Whitmore in an Instagram tribute. And I hardly spoke because I was so awestruck.

Having that much talent was certainly difficult for a star that blazed so brightly in many ways. voice, face, and aura are all the most lovely.

“As an Irish woman growing up in the 1990s, she was everything. She proved that females could be cool, Irish women could be renowned internationally, and that shaving one’s head was not exclusively for men – albeit it was not a look I could pull off.

“My mother informed everyone who came to see her that Sinead lived on our road and was our royalty. Queen X, rest in peace.

Sinead was the real personification of the punk mentality, according to English musician Tim Burgess.

She refused to make concessions, which made her life more difficult. I’m hoping she’s at peace x.”

‘Ah s***e, Sinead O’Connor has passed away,’ the comedian Dara Briain tweeted. Just incredibly awful news all around. Stupid thing. I sincerely hope she understood the depth of our affection for her.

The singer of Nothing Compares 2 U passed just a year after her son Shane, then 17 years old, committed suicide.

Due to her ongoing grief over his passing, she ultimately decided not to perform for the rest of the year.

Her management noted in a statement at the time that it had not been an easy choice for the singer, but that she had cancelled the shows for “her own health and wellbeing.”

In a statement, they said, “We would like to respectfully announce that Sinead O’Connor will not be performing live in 2022 due to continuing grief over the tragic loss of her beloved son Shane earlier this year.”

Sinead had to make this choice for her current health and wellness, and it was not an easy one for her.

O’Connor was honoured this year as she accepted the first-ever award for Classic Irish Album at the RTE Choice Music Awards to a standing ovation.

We want to express our gratitude and admiration to Sinead’s global management company, ICM, for handling this with the utmost respect and decency and for their diligent efforts.

We also like to express our gratitude to local and international promoters for their ongoing help and patience.

Thank you, too, to Sinead’s friends and supporters, whose help and understanding we have held in the highest regard during this time. Sinead has found a tremendous deal of solace and calm in the love being shared.

O’Connor’s three kids are left behind.

Shane passed away in January at the age of 17, and his body was found in Wicklow after he went missing.

‘My darling son, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the very light of my life, decided to stop his earthly struggle tonight and is now with God,’ she stated at the time.

“May he rest in peace, and may others not emulate him.” My child. I adore you a lot. Be at peace, please.

In her final tweet, O’Connor shared a picture of her deceased son and wrote: “Been living as undead night creature since.” He was my true love and the light of my soul.

“We were two halves of one soul.” The only person who has ever shown me absolute affection is him.

Without him, “I am lost in the bardo.”

  • Japan’s population shrank by 800,000 as demographic issue grew worse

Japan’s population shrank by 800,000 as demographic issue grew worse

The demographic situation in Japan is getting worse; similar to trends in other East Asian countries, about 800,000 fewer individuals have called Japan home in the last year.

There were 125.4 million people living in Japan at the beginning of this year, including both native Japanese and foreign immigrants, according to figures released on Wednesday by the Japanese interior ministry. There were around 289,500 more foreign residents this year compared to last, a significant increase of more than 10%.

However, the ministry reported that the number of Japanese citizens fell by 800,523, continuing a 14-year trend that began after a peak in 2009.

A ministry spokeswoman told CNN that for the first time, there were fewer Japanese nationals in each prefecture nationwide.

However, as a result of the growth in foreign immigrants, Tokyo’s population as a whole, regardless of nationality, somewhat increased.

According to the ministry, the number of deaths last year also reached a record high, reaching 1.56 million, compared to just 771,801 infants, or less than half the number of births.

In Japan, where births have been outpacing deaths for more than ten years, the third-largest economy in the world is grappling with a mounting crisis. As demand from the ageing population soars, they now have to contend with a growing older population and a declining workforce to pay for pensions and healthcare.

With a fertility rate of 1.3, which is much lower than the rate of 2.1 needed to sustain a stable population in the absence of immigration, Japan has experienced a continuous fall in population since its economic boom in the 1980s.

Aside from having one of the longest life expectancies in the world, Japan had roughly one in every 1,500 residents who were 100 years or older in 2020, according to government statistics.

In close proximity, China, South Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan are going through a similar crisis and are working to persuade young people to have more children despite rising living expenses and social unrest.

Japan’s prime minister, Fumio Kishida, warned that the country is “on the verge of not being able to maintain social functions” in January as a result of these worrying developments.

Japanese authorities have recently pushed for more foreign employees and residents, which is not an easy undertaking in a very homogeneous nation with relatively low levels of immigration. This is an effort to fill such gaps and balance the population.

In order to allow an estimated 340,000 foreign employees to assume high-skilled and low-paying professions, the Japanese government adopted a policy change in 2018 that was advocated by former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

And in a significant turn of events in 2021, the Japanese government said that it was thinking about allowing foreigners to work in some skilled jobs indefinitely.

However, the Covid-19 pandemic halted much of that development, causing the nation to close its borders to visitors and impose lockdowns in numerous prefectures.

According to a report published last year by a Tokyo-based research group, Japan will require almost four times as many foreign employees by 2040 to reach its economic objectives. But it cautioned that in order to do that, Japan must first foster a climate that upholds migrant workers’ human rights and work towards social reform so that it is more accepting of foreigners.

Afghanistan flash floods claim dozens of lives

The fatal flash floods that struck multiple Afghan provinces over the weekend claimed at least 31 lives, according to authorities’ reports on Sunday.

74 people had been harmed, and at least 41 were still missing, according to Shafiullah Rahimi, a spokesman for the Taliban’s Ministry of Disaster Management, who talked to the media from Kabul.

Rahimi claims that in seven regions of Afghanistan, flash floods caused by heavy seasonal rains have destroyed 606 residential dwellings and hundreds of acres of agricultural land, either completely or in part.

Teams from the ministry, as well as teams from the defence and public welfare ministries, the Red Crescent, provincial officials, and other officials, arrived at the flood scenes and managed the rescue efforts, the official claimed.

In a statement made public on Sunday, the Taliban’s Ministry of State for Disaster Management asserted that since the year 2023 got underway, over 100,000 families in different provinces affected by natural disasters had gotten food and money aid.

According to the report, including the most recent recorded deaths from flash floods, at least 214 individuals have perished as a result of natural catastrophes in the previous four months.

Ship carrying 3,000 vehicles catches fire off coast of Holland, leaving one person dead

On Wednesday, a fire broke out on a ship carrying some 3,000 cars off the coast of the Netherlands, killing one person and wounding numerous others, according to the coastguard.

A spokesperson for the Dutch coast guard told CNN on Wednesday that rescue boats and helicopters were used to remove the 23 crew members off the ship after some of them jumped into the water.

Images show grey smoke coming from the ship, and there are fears that it may be sinking 27 kilometres north of the Dutch island of Ameland in the Wadden Sea, one of the world’s most important migratory bird migration routes.

According to CNN affiliate and Dutch national network NOS, the ship, which flies the flag of Panama, was travelling from Bremerhaven, Germany, to Port Said, Egypt.

According to NOS, one of the 25 electric vehicles on board may have ignited the fire, but the coast guard representative told CNN that the cause is still being looked into.

On Wednesday night at around midnight local time, the ship reported an onboard fire to the Coast Guard.

The crew made an effort to put out the fire on their own but failed, according to the coast guard.

A number of crew members leaped overboard as the fire advanced.

The Ameland rescue ship’s skipper Willard Molenaar told NOS that “the people had to get off.” “They all jumped at once, and we pulled them out of the water.” Molenaar estimates that the ship carrying the cars is about 30 metres tall. They had to jump since they were in desperate need. You don’t simply do that, he continued.

All 23 crew members disembarked using rescue boats and helicopters, but according to the coast guard, several of them were hurt and one of them died.

As reported by NOS, the remaining crew were evacuated from the ship by helicopter, leaving it empty.

The burning ship is still ablaze. The recovery vessel Hunter is holding the ship in a controlled position and is connected to it in case of emergency. To minimise the damage as much as possible, several parties are putting together an action plan, the coast guard announced in a message on Twitter.

The crew members were treated by paramedics and transported to the adjacent coastal community of Lauwersoog, while others were flown to Groningen Airport in Eelde, according to the coast guard.

  • Israel’s judicial reform ignites military crisis as proportion of reservists climbs

Israel’s judicial reform ignites military crisis as proportion of reservists climbs

Israeli reservists, the backbone of the Israeli military, are threatening to skip work as the country descends into turmoil following the passage of the first bill of a contentious judicial overhaul by the country’s parliament. Furthermore, the Israeli government is raising the alarm over its readiness for war.

Due to a new rule that went into effect on Wednesday, the court no longer has the authority to overturn government decisions if it deems them to be “unreasonable.” Polls indicated that millions of people were opposed to the proposal, which opponents claimed would weaken the independence of the judiciary and destroy Israel’s democracy.

Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, the IDF’s chief spokesperson, told reporters on Tuesday that the IDF is competent at the moment but conceded that the readiness of the nation’s armed forces could be impacted.

“The army’s capability will suffer if reservists don’t show up for a while. According to the presence of the reservists, the process would change gradually, he said.

The military has begged for reservists to stay in their positions because analysts think the scope of the threat is unprecedented.

In response to reservists who skipped out on duty on Tuesday, IDF Chief of General Staff Herzi Halevi remarked, “The IDF needs you. Only together will we protect our common home.”

Before the contentious “reasonableness” bill was passed on Monday, about 10,000 military reservists declared that they would not sign up for duty under its terms. Additionally, more people are refusing, according to Hagari.

Israeli Minister of Defence Yoav Gallant and US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin spoke over the phone, and Austin reaffirmed the US’ commitment to Israel’s security. But he added that maintaining democracy required “wide consensus through political dialogue.”

Israel is at a historical “inflection point,” according to Chuck Freilich, a senior researcher at The Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) in Tel Aviv who spent more than 20 years working in Israel’s national security establishment, where “extreme measures may have to be taken to endure Israel’s fundamental character of democracy.”

Freilich remarked of reservists who refused, “On the one hand, it is admirable.” However, he added, “it is a horrible thing for the IDF.” He continued that it was astonishing that one of the best militaries in the world “is threatening to come apart at the seams over domestic changes.”

After the vote was approved on Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged the IDF to “stay out of any political controversy,” claiming that “the call for refusal harms the security of all citizens of the country.”

Israel, a nation that started fighting wars soon after its formation in 1948, has been involved in seven wars and numerous other smaller conflicts with its neighbours.

An institution that is strongly ingrained in many Israelis’ sense of identity and nationhood is the requirement that every Jewish, Druze, or Circassian Israeli over the age of 18 serve in the military. Among others, those who are ultra-Orthodox Jews and Palestinian Israeli citizens are excused from swerving.

IDF reservists and veterans’ protest group Brothers and Sisters in Arms leader Yiftach Golov stated that “by definition, the reservists are the backbone of the IDF.”

According to Golov, “They comprise the majority, the bigger fraction of the IDF,” and they are stronger not just because of their sheer numbers but also because of their greater skill.

The nation’s reserve army, which has over 400,000 soldiers and is available for call-up at any time, is an option for soldiers once they have completed their mandatory service. Israelis may stay in the reserve well into their forties or even beyond.

More than 1,000 reserve members of the Israeli Air Force, which Golov refers to as one of the military’s “main, major forces,” defining its aerial capabilities, are among those threatening to leave. One-third of the IDF’s personnel are in the Israeli Air Force.

One reservist, who has been volunteering for 23 years, told CNN at a demonstration in Jerusalem on Tuesday, “We feel like we are doing the right thing and that we are fighting for the democracy of Israel.”

An further reserve member urged the administration to “stop the madness, stop the destruction of the army.”

Freilich noted that despite a little decline in influence over time, the military continues to play a significant role in Israeli culture and that more than half of Israelis today had served in the IDF. Military duty is a rite of passage for many Israelis.

According to Freilich, reservists are likely to report for service if there is a genuine threat to national security, but their protest still hurts the IDF.

“This isn’t a refusal to serve,” he declared. These are individuals who are fully devoted to Israel’s defence; if a security emergency arises tomorrow, they will all immediately report for service.

“What they’re saying is that this crisis is so important that there is a higher morality they have to report to,” he continued.

In addition to rising border tensions, Israel is currently experiencing an internal crisis.

Formally, the nation is still at war with a number of its neighbours, including Syria and Lebanon. Israeli soldiers and Palestinians in East Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank, as well as Palestinian terrorists in Gaza, frequently engage in violent clashes.

When Israel and extremists in southern Lebanon exchanged a barrage of rockets in April, tensions along Israel’s northern border with Lebanon increased after years of peace. It was the worst escalation between the two sides since 2006. Israel attributed the rocket attacks to Hamas.

Some of Israel’s adversaries have been paying close attention to the turmoil.

Israel is “on a path of collapse, fragmentation, and disappearance,” according to Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, in a speech broadcast on television on Monday, according to Reuters.

According to some of its citizens, today in particular is the worst day in Israel’s history.

Netanyahu and others have cautioned against skipping military duty, but Golov of Brothers and Sisters in Arms claims that the prime minister is using this as part of a “divide and conquer” strategy.

When the patriots turn traitors, the government will attempt to instill a sense of “an opposite world,” according to Golov.

According to Freilich, Nasrallah, Iran, Gaza, and the West Bank would take “a lot of pleasure in potentially witnessing Israel tear itself apart.”

“However, the demonstrators are not the issue. The administration and the prime minister are to blame for this, he claimed. “He (Netanyahu) is prepared to pay any cost to advance this.”

Golov interprets the threat of reservists abstaining from duty as a portent of far greater things.

Golov declared, “This is just the beginning.” But you’ll see that this movement is now affecting a large portion of the ground brigades, generally known as the army.

Russia, China, and North Korea celebrate victory that occurred 70 years ago together

Delegations from China and Russia, North Korea‘s main allies in the Korean War, gathered in Pyongyang this week to commemorate North Korea’s “Victory Day” in that conflict, which ravaged the Korean Peninsula seven decades ago, as they also united over Russia’s destructive invasion of Ukraine, another very modern conflict.

On Wednesday, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un gave Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu a tour of a defence exhibition in Pyongyang. Images from North Korean media show them passing a variety of weapons, from Pyongyang’s nuclear-capable ballistic missiles to its newest drones. Shoigu was a key architect of Moscow’s assault on Ukraine.

According to a report from the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), North Korean Defence Minister Kang Sun Nam expressed Pyongyang’s full support “for the just struggle of the Russian army and people to defend the sovereignty and security of the country” at a state reception for Shoigu and the Russian delegation in a reference to the conflict in Ukraine.

Shoigu then made his own comments, claiming that the Korean People’s Army (KPA) has “become the strongest army in the world” and promising to continue working together to maintain this status.

Senior North Korean official Kim Song Nam expressed gratitude to Chinese forces for participating in the Korean War on Wednesday at a reception for the delegation led by Politburo member Li Hongzhong, saying North Korea “would not forget forever the heroic feats and merits of the bravery soldiers who recorded a brilliant page in history.”

The attendance of the Chinese and Russian delegations at the armistice anniversary, according to Ankit Panda, Stanton Senior Fellow in the Nuclear Policy Programme at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, “underscores the importance Pyongyang attaches to its relationships with both countries.”

Shoigu’s presence stands out in particular because it demonstrates how close Pyongyang and Moscow have grown since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year, according to Panda.

The Korean War, which lasted from 1950 to 1953 and was one of the first global hostilities of the Cold War era, came to a conclusion on Thursday, marking its 70th anniversary.

In the autumn of 1950, China dispatched a quarter of a million soldiers onto the Korean Peninsula to help its ally North Korea and drive out the combined forces of South Korea, the United States, and other nations fighting under the United Nations Command.

In the Korean War, also known in Beijing as the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, more than 180,000 Chinese soldiers lost their lives.

The Soviet Union, which preceded Russia, also helped North Korea during the conflict by supplying heavy weapons like tanks and providing military assistance by sending Soviet aircraft to engage US fighters.

Despite Pyongyang’s claims of victory, the conflict it started in 1950 ended in a standoff, leaving the demilitarised zone that exists today along the 38th parallel largely where it did before the conflict.

Although a genuine peace agreement has never been signed, the Korean War armistice that was signed on July 27, 1953, put an end to hostilities.

After the war, the US, which served as the focal point of the UN Command that supported South Korea, had a sizable number of soldiers stationed at several army and air sites in the South. The largest US military base abroad is Camp Humphreys, located in Pyeongtaek, south of Seoul.

In the meantime, Moscow has consistently supported North Korea throughout the years, particularly given their shared hostility to the West. The same is true of the Chinese Communist Party, particularly under the leadership of Xi Jinping, the country’s current president.

Panda emphasised how Pyongyang’s interests have been upheld before the UN Security Council by both Moscow and Beijing, permanent members of the organisation, as Western nations led by the US have attempted to impose additional sanctions on North Korea.

With regard to Ukraine, a former Soviet state that Russia invaded in February 2022 after declaring it to be historically Russian territory, the three authoritarian nuclear powers are now putting up a united front.

That invasion quickly came to a halt as the Ukrainians mounted a valiant defence of their country and Western powers hurried to transfer arms and ammunition to Kiev as Moscow depleted its own supplies and turned to friends like Iran and North Korea for reinforcements.

Last year, US officials claimed that North Korea was supplying Russia with millions of rockets and artillery shells for use in the conflict in Ukraine.

And as the war in Ukraine enters its 18th month, China, although not giving Russia any arms, has remained solidly in Moscow’s camp, with Xi expanding his connection with Putin and mirroring the Kremlin’s rhetoric on the war.

Following the Wagner mercenary group’s brief mutiny in Russia last month, a spokeswoman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry declared support for the Putin administration.

An online statement read, “China supports Russia in maintaining national stability and achieving development and prosperity as its friendly neighbour and comprehensive strategic partner of coordination for the new era.”

The People’s Liberation Army’s English website states that the militaries of China and Russia have been active in the waters off the Korean Peninsula. Their most recent joint exercise, Northern/Interaction-2023, brought together naval and air forces from both nations in drills aiming to “strengthen both sides’ capabilities of jointly safeguarding regional peace and stability and responding to various security challenges.”

The US Navy’s nuclear-capable ballistic missile submarine made its first port call in South Korea in forty years during those manoeuvres in the waters between the Korean Peninsula and Japan, which also coincided with military demonstrations by South Korea and the US.

A military parade in the city’s centre was scheduled to take place on Thursday as part of Pyongyang’s commemorations of the armistice. North Korea frequently exhibits its newest weapons at significant points in its history.

The Hwasong-18 ICBM, a solid-fueled, nuclear-capable missile that North Korea claims could target any location in the United States, is one such weapon that could be on show. Two times this year, most recently earlier this month, it has tested the missile.

  • Attempted coup feared in Niger after president’s detention

Attempted coup feared in Niger after president’s detention

After President Mohamed Bazoum was allegedly taken hostage by members of the presidential guard on Wednesday, leading to protests in the capital, men in military fatigues claimed to have seized power in Niger.

We have decided to put an end to the government that you know, a man described as Colonel-Major Amadou Abdramane declared in a video communiqué, flanked by what appeared to be several troops. He cited the country’s deteriorating security situation and “poor economic and social governance.”

He also appeared to be reading from a book on the table before him when he added that national institutions had been suspended and the country’s land borders had been temporarily closed.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) stated that there had been a “attempt to seize power by force” in the West African nation earlier in the day.

The group also urged the coup plotters to release the democratically elected President of the Republic immediately and without conditions. “ECOWAS condemns in the clearest terms the attempt to grab power by force.

A source close to the president told CNN that the circumstance sparked lengthy conversations between the nation’s Presidential Guard and other officials. What was being discussed specifically was not made clear by the source.

The Nigerian presidential complex was closed off on Wednesday, and early that morning, members of the Presidential Guard began to gather in front of the Presidential Palace heavily armed. Later in the day, about twenty soldiers of the Presidential Guard were spotted outside the palace compound.

According to a statement posted on the presidency’s social media accounts, President Mohamed Bazoum is “doing well” and the army and national guard are “ready to attack the elements of the GP [Presidential Guard] involved in this fit of anger if they do not return to their better senses.”

Along with Bazoum, the interior minister of the nation, Hamadou Souley, was also taken into custody by the presidential guard on Wednesday morning local time. They are both currently being held in the presidential palace in Niamey.

Later, hundreds of Bazoum-supporting demonstrators gathered in Niamey, the nation’s capital. When protestors were about 300 metres (984 ft) from the presidential palace, presidential guards fired “warning shots” to stop their advance.

Later on Wednesday, up to 400 demonstrators could be seen, some carrying Bazoum memorabilia and placards that said, “No to the destabilisation of the republic’s institutions.”

In a tweet posted on Wednesday, the Nigeran presidential office stated that “spontaneous protests by democracy advocates broke out all over the (capital) city of Niamey, (around) the country, and in front of Niger’s embassies abroad after the announcement this morning that President (Mohamed) Bazoum is being held in his palace by his guard.”

According to Reuters and Agence France-Presse (AFP), Bazoum is being held by the presidential guards within the palace, which has been closed off by military vehicles since Wednesday morning. Security sources were reported by Reuters, and people close to Bazoum were cited by AFP.

There are currently no officials inside, a member of the National Guard who is manning the facility for both ministries informed CNN.

There have been rumours of political unrest in the nation’s capital, Niamey, according to the US Embassy in Niger.

The city is peaceful at this moment. Until further notice, we urge everyone to keep movements to a minimum and to avoid travelling along Rue de la Republique, the embassy added.

The rest of the city appears to be tranquil, according to CCTV from the capital Niamey.

Bola Tinubu, the president of Nigeria and the current ECOWAS chair, also released a statement denouncing “unpleasant developments” in Niger.

In his statement, Tinubu stated that they are “closely monitoring the situation and developments.”

All parties involved in the Republic of Niger should be aware that the ECOWAS leadership and all supporters of democracy around the world will not put up with any circumstance that weakens the nation’s democratically elected administration.

The statement read, “The ECOWAS leadership will not accept any action that impedes the effective exercise of legitimate authority in Niger or any other part of West Africa.”

In 2021, Bazoum won the election. In the landlocked West African nation, coup attempts are frequent. Since gaining independence from France in 1960, Niger has been the victim of four coups.

International leaders called for peace despite the apparent unrest in response to the situation in Niger, which was the subject of widespread censure.

The UN “stands by the Government and the people of Niger,” a spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres declared on Wednesday.

The Niger situation is being closely monitored by the Secretary-General. In a statement, Stéphane Dujarric stated, “He condemns in the greatest terms any attempt to oust democratic governance, peace, and stability in Niger.

Josep Borrell, the head of foreign strategy for the EU, strongly denounced “any attempt to destabilise democracy and threaten the stability of Niger.”

The foreign ministry of France expressed worry and stated that it “is closely monitoring the development of the situation” in Niger.

Officials from the White House also stated that they “strongly condemn any attempt to detain or obstruct the democratically elected government of Niger from carrying out its duties.”

The alliance between Washington and the West African nation, according to US national security adviser Jake Sullivan, depends on its “continued commitment to democratic standards.”

  • 5 facts myths about men’s morning erections

5 facts myths about men’s morning erections

Waking up with an erection is commonplace for most men; however, misinformation and misconceptions about morning erections exist.

    1. Myth: Morning erections are always a sign of sexual arousal.
    2. Fact: Morning erections, also known as “nocturnal penile tumescence,” are a natural physiological response that occurs during certain stages of sleep. While they can be associated with sexual arousal, they are primarily caused by changes in hormone levels during the REM (rapid eye movement) stage of sleep. Men can have morning erections even without sexual thoughts or dreams.
    3. Myth: Morning erections only happen in young men.
    4. Fact: Morning erections are not exclusive to young men. They can occur throughout a man’s life, from adolescence to old age. As long as a man is physically healthy and experiences regular REM sleep, morning erections are likely to continue.
    5. Myth: The lack of morning erections indicates a sexual problem.
    6. Fact: While morning erections are a normal part of male physiology, their absence does not necessarily indicate a sexual problem. Several factors, including stress, sleep disturbances, medications, and overall health, can affect the frequency of morning erections. If a man experiences persistent erectile difficulties, it is essential to consult a healthcare professional for a comprehensive evaluation.
    7. Myth: Morning erections are always associated with sexual dreams.
    8. Fact: While morning erections can be triggered by sexual dreams, they can also occur without any accompanying dreams. As mentioned earlier, the physiological response responsible for morning erections is mainly influenced by hormonal changes during sleep rather than sexual thoughts or fantasies.
    9. Myth: Men can control morning erections consciously.
    10. Fact: Morning erections are an involuntary response and cannot be consciously controlled. They are regulated by the autonomic nervous system and hormonal fluctuations during sleep. Trying to suppress or prevent morning erections is unlikely to be successful and not recommended as it is a natural part of male sexual health.

It is essential to have accurate information about men’s health and sexual function to dispel misconceptions and promote overall well-being. If a man has concerns or questions about his sexual health, consulting a healthcare professional can provide valuable insights and guidance.

My son’s seniors in Adisco gave him 50p to buy 20 sachet water – Parent shares son’s bully story

A troubling storm seems to be brewing in one of Ghana’s prestigious Senior High Schools, Adisadel College, as there have been recent reports of bullying in the school.

Chilling accounts of seniors unleashing all forms of abuses on their subordinates or juniors  in the name of ‘seniority’ now stand exposed, casting a chilling light on the silent suffering endured by students.

A brave parent has stepped forward to attest to this harrowing reality, sharing more heart-wrenching revelations that have shaken the very foundation of the revered educational institution.

In an interview with General Manager of Citi FM and Citi TV, who doubles as the host of the Citi Breakfast Show, Bernard Avle, the parent who spoke on anonymity, said

What was initially trivialised and regarded as a normal school culture, was later discovered to be a severe nightmare for most students, especially his son who is currently in his second year in school.

Mr Addo (nor his real name) said his son came home after his first vacation, lamenting bitterly over the situation.

“Initially, I laughed over it since I have been a student and I have been there before and I know that it’s part of school life but then, he came home during his second and he said they could not even sleep due to torment from their seniors who were completing school,” he said.

“They [seniors] use the hook of belts to flog them [juniors] and when they are coming, they come in a group like 8, 10, 20. So when they come, you can’t do anything and they will be beating you from any angle.

He also recounted an incident where his son was given 50 pesewas to buy 20 sachets of water.

“They gave my boy 50 pesewas to go and buy about 20 sachets for the seniors and he said I don’t have anything on me. How can I use 50 pesewas to buy 20 sachets of water? That was the only thing he told them. How they beat my boy. I was so mad and that is why I called the master,” he said.

He added that upon reaching out with a complaint to a teacher about the incidents, he was told that even the highest authorities cannot do anything about the situation.

So the teacher told me even the Senior House master when they are walking they walk with a cutlass. The House masters while walking on campus, some of them put some gadgets on them because they are scared of the students. Because they can be attacked,” he said.

This comes on the back of a trending video which made waves on social media in which a student from the Adisadel college, a renowned institution for nurturing young minds and shaping future leaders, is seen bullying another student.

Reports indicate that the incident was over a SIM which belonged to the recipient of the abuse, which had been seized by the abuser.

The Ghana Education Service and school authorities have taken up the matter and spelled out sanctions to both perpetrators and the recipient of the abuse, as well as the student who recorded the incident and others who were in the dormitory and refused to report the incident.
