Is Dangote your business partner? – Atik asks Cecilia Dapaah

A former General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed, has joined scores of Ghanaians questioning the source of wealth of former Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Dapaah, following the astonishing discovery of over one million dollars (US$1m) at the home of the former Minister.

Speaking on Peace FM’s morning show, Kokrokoo, Mr Mohammed expressed profound bewilderment over such a colossal sum of money in the former Minister’s home, arguing that the Minister ought to be a business partner of Aliko Dangote in order to attain such wealth.

“This is irrepressible on all accounts and I am interested because she’s a Minister of state, because she is a public servant. To acquire such huge sums of money it’s either two things; you’re engaged in a business and have been paid or you inherited it. Either way there are issues; reason why I have been asking whether Dangote is her business partner,” Mr Mohammed said.

Five individuals are facing charges for their alleged involvement in stealing millions of dollars and euros from the minister’s house at Abelemkpe, a suburb of Accra.

Following this, she resigned on July 23, 2023, explaining that it was to prevent the matter from becoming a preoccupation of government and a hindrance to the work of government at such a crucial time.

Despite the assurance of availing herself for investigations, she has come under heavy scrutiny.

Many Ghanaians have also been commenting on the development, including General Manager for Citi TV and Citi FM, Bernard Avle who has urged the state to take up this matter and ensure it is thoroughly investigated, without any form of politicisation.

“Let’s not politicise it with claims that it will make the government look bad. Already, you [the government] are smelling bad. If we are serious about this let’s not politicise it,” he added.

Filmmakers believe Ghana’s movie industry is not dead

During the third edition of the Graphic Showbiz forum, panelists debunked the prevailing notion that Ghana’s movie industry is defunct. Instead, they conveyed optimism regarding its potential for growth, emphasizing that progress can be achieved with deliberate actions.

Despite limited resources, filmmakers have been making significant strides and could achieve even greater breakthroughs with the right support from relevant stakeholders. The panelists highlighted the industry’s possibilities and emphasized the importance of collective efforts to establish a platform that facilitates filmmakers’ access to assistance for business growth and meeting increasing demands.

Movie producer Ivan Quashigah presented a compelling case for the industry, acknowledging its evolution and significant progress over time. He emphasized that although the process might be gradual, the film industry is continuously evolving and is on the path to success.

  • Reasons to choose mayonnaise over margarine

Reasons to choose mayonnaise over margarine

Considering the profound impact of healthy food choices on our well-being and acknowledging the significance of the saying “you are what you eat,” it becomes imperative to reevaluate our attitude towards food selections. Incorporating healthy varieties into our diets and reducing the consumption of unhealthy options can be a step towards better health.

One aspect to reconsider is the use of spreads commonly consumed with staple foods like bread. Many people rely on spreads like margarine, butter, and mayonnaise, without being aware of the potential health consequences. Margarine, containing trans-fats, has been linked to increased bad cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein) and triglycerides, along with a reduction in good cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein), which can elevate the risk of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular issues.

In contrast, mayonnaise, a healthier and more nutritious option, is predominantly made from soybean oil, rich in unsaturated fats that can help control cholesterol levels and improve skin and vision. It also contains vitamin E, acting as a powerful antioxidant, and omega-3 fatty acids beneficial for various bodily functions.

Palm oil, a leading ingredient in margarine, has been associated with health risks if consumed regularly and in large amounts. Studies have linked palm oil consumption to increased mortality from ischemic heart disease, raised low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and an elevated risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Mayonnaise, with its nutritious composition and versatility, proves to be a preferable choice. It offers benefits like muscle and bone development, brain health, immune system support, and improved vision. The elderly population can also benefit from its nutritional properties as it addresses challenges related to reduced food choices in aging individuals.

Beyond its nutritional value, mayonnaise can be utilized in various ways, serving as a dip, spread, or dressing for salads and other dishes. It pairs well with chicken wings, bread loaves, salads, fish, and seafood, enhancing the flavor and overall appeal of meals.

While lifestyle and genetics contribute to the development of cardiovascular diseases, adopting healthy food choices and making lifestyle changes can significantly impact heart health and overall well-being. Following the advice of medical experts, practicing moderation in food selection, and embracing a balanced diet can lead to positive outcomes for heart health and overall health. Dr. Oluwajimi Sodipo, a medical consultant, Head of the Department for Family Medicine at the Lagos State Teaching Hospital, and Chairman of Lagos Medical Guild, advocates for healthy food choices as an integral part of a comprehensive approach to well-being.

  • Adjetey Anang advices Young creatives to stay in the process

Adjetey Anang advices Young creatives to stay in the process

Renowned Ghanaian actor, Adjetey Anang, has emphasized the importance of young people in the creative industry understanding the intricacies of their profession. In an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, he highlighted that many individuals, particularly young creatives, tend to overlook the business side of showbiz.

Adjetey Anang pointed out that the solution to this issue lies in dedicating time to learn and acquire the necessary knowledge. By grasping the business aspects of the entertainment industry, young talents can better navigate their careers and make informed decisions, leading to greater success in their chosen field.

“One of the ways through which we can is if our younger generation gets to stay in the process. Because before you can make business out of something you have to be baked. You can’t be in a certain craft and not be baked,” he said.

“People come to my dms and say they are passionate about acting, I should give them a chance and they will prove it. Sometimes I just take a stroll to their social media handles and all I see is selfies of their food and designer wears,” Adjetey Anang added.

Adjetey Anang expressed his belief that those who claim to be passionate about their work in the creative industry should actively showcase their endeavors on social media platforms. He observed that many young people are not effectively utilizing these platforms to promote their talents and projects.

In his newly released book titled ‘Adjetey Anang: Faith, imperfections, and resilience,’ he addresses the lack of business-mindedness in Ghana’s entertainment industry. Adjetey Anang pointed out that often, individuals in the industry focus solely on gaining money and fame without investing in continuous education, improving their craft, or exploring innovative approaches to filmmaking.

To bring about positive change and growth in the arts, he encourages those involved to educate themselves in various business and marketing fields. By combining their artistic talents with a keen understanding of business strategies, the industry can thrive and reach new heights. Adjetey Anang’s hope is that this collective effort will lead to a more prosperous and sustainable future for Ghana’s entertainment sector.

  • Kevin Spacey found not guilty of all 9 sexual offence charges

Kevin Spacey found not guilty of all 9 sexual offence charges

American actor Kevin Spacey experienced an emotional moment on his 64th birthday when a U.K. jury found him not guilty of nine charges, including sexual assault, indecent assault, and causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity. The trial took place over four and a half weeks at Southwark Crown Court in London.

The jury heard from four men who had made complaints against Spacey. One of them, who had frequent interactions with the actor during his time as creative director of the Old Vic theatre in the early 2000s, claimed that Spacey repeatedly grabbed him by the crotch, even causing a near-crash incident on a motorway. Spacey defended himself, stating that the relationships were consensual, but denied the near-crash incident, providing evidence to support his claim.

The second complaint was related to a charity event in 2005, where a man accused Spacey of making sexually aggressive comments before pinning him against a wall and grabbing his crotch. Spacey denied ever meeting the man at the event.

The most serious charge involved an allegation from 2008, in which a complainant claimed to have woken up in Spacey’s London apartment to find him performing oral sex. Spacey asserted that the encounter was consensual and presented telephone records contradicting the man’s account.

The fourth complaint was related to a party at Spacey’s rented house in Gloucestershire, where he allegedly made sexual advances towards another man. Spacey described the encounter as a drunken “clumsy pass” and attempted to apologize.

The jury ultimately dismissed each of the charges brought against Spacey. Originally facing 12 counts, the number was reduced to nine due to a legal technicality.

This verdict marks another legal victory for Spacey, who previously won a $40 million civil lawsuit brought against him by actor Anthony Rapp in October. Rapp had accused Spacey of sexual battery, but a New York jury dismissed the claim.

  • 8 misconceptions of time that make you less productive

8 misconceptions of time that make you less productive

“Time is often referred to as money, a valuable resource we all recognize. Contrary to expectations, though we understand the significance of cherishing time, it remains intangible and elusive. We inadvertently squander it, seemingly unsure of how to harness its power despite our awareness. Time management has become a societal fixation, surrounded by myths and misconceptions, much like any other cultural phenomenon.”

With a limited understanding of time and these myths, it becomes increasingly difficult to use our time wisely and be truly productive. These misconceptions cause us to have a distorted view of productivity, causing us to become less efficient, less motivated, more prone to burnout, and more prone to making poor decisions.

To overcome some of these false beliefs, we must first understand what “time” means in terms of productivity.

In this article, I’ll debunk 8 misconceptions of time that are probably causing you to be less productive.

Misconceptions about time can indeed hinder productivity. Here are eight common misconceptions and how they may affect your efficiency:

    1. “I have plenty of time”: Underestimating the time required for tasks can lead to procrastination and last-minute rushes, affecting the quality of your work.
    2. “Multitasking is efficient”: Trying to do multiple tasks simultaneously can reduce focus and lead to errors. It’s better to prioritize tasks and complete them one at a time.
    3. “I work best under pressure”: While some people believe they perform better with tight deadlines, chronic procrastination can increase stress and compromise the quality of work.
    4. “I don’t have time to take breaks”: Skipping breaks can lead to burnout and reduced productivity over time. Regular breaks improve focus and creativity.
    5. “I can catch up on lost sleep later”: Sacrificing sleep to work more can harm cognitive function and overall well-being, ultimately impacting productivity.
    6. “I need to be available 24/7”: Constantly being responsive to emails and messages can lead to distractions and hinder deep work. Set designated times for communication.
    7. “I can’t say no to new tasks”: Overcommitting can lead to overwhelming workloads and reduced efficiency. Learn to say no to tasks that don’t align with your priorities.
    8. “I need to work longer hours to achieve more”: Working excessively without proper rest can lead to diminishing returns. Focus on working efficiently during designated hours.

By dispelling these misconceptions and adopting more mindful approaches to time management, you can boost productivity and maintain a healthier work-life balance.

  • Bernard Avle takes on Akufo-Addo over “sweetheart” letter to Cecilia Dapaah’s resignation

Bernard Avle takes on Akufo-Addo over “sweetheart” letter to Cecilia Dapaah’s resignation

General Manager of Citi TV and Citi 97.3 FM, Bernard Avle, has chided President Akufo-Addo over his response to the resignation letter of former Sanitation and Water Resource Minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah.

He said the President’s tone in the purported response to the former Minister’s resignation letter was not suitable given the gravity of the situation.

“I’m a bit worried about the speed the purported response from the President seeks to exonerate the Minister and almost pigeonholing her resignation around loyalty to the government and the government image, is that what this is about; that it’s about whether someone’s image is good or bad? What signal are we sending to citizens in terms of profligacy?” he questioned.

He further noted that: “the letter the President wrote purportedly in response to the resignation, I think the tone is not sensitive to the feelings of Ghanaians at all. At least the President could have accepted the letter and said, ‘Well thank you for your service’ [and] the other point is that there hasn’t been any formal process of investigation or anything.”

His comment comes on the back of the resignation of the Sanitation Minister following a theft case involving two househelps of the Minister, and the President’s subsequent response.

Commenting on the development, Mr Avle urged the state to take up this matter and ensure it is thoroughly investigated, and eschew any form of politicisation from the investigations.

“Let’s not politicise it with claims that it will make the government look bad. Already, you [the government] are smelling bad. If we are serious about this let’s not politicise it,” he added.

  •  A man who doesn’t give his woman money is boring and unromantic -BBNaija star

A man who doesn’t give his woman money is boring and unromantic -BBNaija star

TV personality and BBNaija star Tuoyo Ideh has expressed his strong belief in the importance of men providing financial support to women they frequently interact with, particularly through text messages. Taking to his Instagram story, the reality star stated that men who don’t offer money to women they frequently text are perceived as boring and lacking in romance.

According to Tuoyo, men should compensate women for the time and attention they invest in texting them by sending them money. He firmly holds the view that this practice is the right thing to do and remains resolute in his stance, stating that no one can change his perception on the matter.

It’s worth noting that individuals may have varying opinions on the dynamics of giving and receiving financial support in relationships. While some may agree with Tuoyo’s perspective, others may believe that financial support should not be the primary measure of romance or connection.

As with any relationship advice or opinion, it’s essential for individuals to consider their own values, beliefs, and the dynamics of their specific relationships before making decisions on financial matters. Open communication and mutual understanding between partners are crucial for establishing a healthy and harmonious relationship.

He wrote: “Chatting with a woman regularly and not sending her money or paying her bills, makes you a boring and unromantic man. Unfortunately, I don’t think anybody can change that perception.”

    Check out some reactions

iamsnowbaba: “The worst of the women will say they are supposed to send nudes to the man , my question is will the nudes be any benefit to the man financially or mentally? A woman whom you’re not in a relationship with that think because a man sends her money, the only thing she can offer the man is to send her nudes to him, is not fit to be called a woman!”

__joyup: “What is romance without finance?”

justinegozie: “If you are financially capable…you will not need to use money to entice any woman…when you speak to ladies you will do it on your own terms …”

Don’t follow your beauty, work hard – Michy advice ladies

Ghanaian television host and brand influencer, Michy, has shared her perspective on the financial support women receive from men and the importance of female empowerment. According to Michy, men are often willing to give women money when asked, but they are unlikely to support women in achieving their life goals. She believes that men may not want to see women surpassing them or becoming equals in terms of success.

Michy emphasized that women should not solely rely on their beauty to get by in life, as it may lead them to engage in activities they may not be proud of, such as sleeping with multiple men for financial gain. Instead, she encourages women to rely on their own strength and willingness to work hard to achieve success and financial independence.

In her interview with Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM, Michy acknowledged that she could easily get money by leveraging her beauty and influence but emphasized that the price paid for such shortcuts might not be worth it. Instead, she advocates for women to build their own careers and financial stability, as relying solely on others can come with limitations and compromises.

Furthermore, Michy highlighted the potential of brand influencing as a lucrative career path for women. She pointed out that many brand influencers are making a significant amount of money through their work and believes that such opportunities should be taken seriously and not underestimated.

Overall, Michy’s statements underscore the importance of women taking charge of their lives, pursuing their goals with determination, and seeking financial independence through their own efforts rather than relying solely on others for support.

The Kremlin said the visit will help to enhance relations and mark “an important stage” in the development of their bilateral cooperation when it first announced it yesterday morning.

The Russian ministry posted on Telegram that this visit “will contribute to bolstering Russian-North Korean military ties and will be a crucial step in the development of cooperation between the two countries.”

  • Davido is still bothering me – Anita Brown

Davido is still bothering me – Anita Brown

Anita Brown, who claims to be the alleged pregnant side chick of Afrobeats singer Davido, has recently revealed that despite everything she has said about the singer and his family, he continues to contact her through direct messages (DMs) on social media. As a result, she has taken to Instagram Live to share her experiences and offer advice to women on how to keep a man committed.

During her Instagram Live session, Anita asserted that she believes she is more attractive and wealthier than those who criticize her, including Davido’s other baby mamas. She also made controversial remarks about Davido’s wife, Chioma, suggesting that Chioma had to resort to extreme measures, such as terminating a pregnancy, to secure a marriage proposal from Davido.

As her claims gained attention, social media users expressed various reactions. Some were critical of Anita’s actions, calling her shameless and questioning her motives, while also holding Davido accountable for putting himself and his wife in such a situation. Others empathized with Chioma, pointing out that relationships should be based on responsibility and respect.

Despite the criticisms and insults directed at Anita, there were also comments acknowledging her resilience and determination, as she seems undeterred by the backlash she receives. Some users urged others to stop engaging in conflicts with her online, suggesting that she may thrive on the attention and negativity.

See reactions to her assertions here:

mos_shk3d: “I never see wetin fine for this girl body… make God forgive me”

precious_mattews: “She’s shameless, yes but even though she’s probably lying at this point, Davido should still be ashamed for putting himself and especially his wife in this situation. On a normal day, she should be sued for insinuating that the baby was killed just to get a dowry. That’s so unfair to the mother and David brought this to his family. This, ladies and gentlemen is why you should be responsible. Doing every and anything because you can is not a flex, it’s irresponsible.”

  • How to minimize distractions while working from home

How to minimize distractions while working from home

You’re nestled into your home office, zeroed in on the project you’ve been tackling all morning. Your fingers are racing across the keyboard, and you’re in the zone. But then, an uproar in the living room – your kids have declared a sibling war. A second later, your spouse is at the door asking for a hand with the laundry.

Sounds familiar? As someone who also works from home, I can certainly nod my head in agreement with this.

Minimizing distractions while working from home is crucial for maintaining productivity and focus. Here are some effective strategies to help you stay on track:

    1. Designate a dedicated workspace: Set up a specific area in your home solely for work. This helps create a mental boundary between work and personal life, making it easier to concentrate when you’re in “work mode.”
    2. Establish a routine: Stick to a consistent daily schedule. Wake up and start work at the same time each day, take breaks at regular intervals, and have a designated end time for work. A routine can help condition your mind to focus during work hours.
    3. Create a to-do list or a daily plan: Prioritize your tasks and create a schedule for the day. Having a clear plan in place can keep you focused on completing essential tasks and reduce the chances of getting sidetracked.
    4. Limit social media and internet browsing: Social media platforms and browsing the internet can be significant sources of distraction. Use website blockers or apps that restrict access to non-work-related sites during work hours.
    5. Turn off notifications: Disable non-essential notifications on your phone, computer, and other devices. This will help you resist the temptation to check your messages or apps constantly.
    6. Communicate boundaries to others: Let your family or housemates know your work hours and request that they respect your space during those times. Minimizing interruptions from others can help you stay focused.
    7. Use noise-cancelling headphones: If there are external noises that distract you, invest in noise-cancelling headphones to create a more peaceful work environment.
    8. Take regular breaks: Short breaks throughout the day can actually boost productivity. Step away from your workspace, stretch, take a walk, or practice deep breathing to recharge.
    9. Stay hydrated and eat well: Proper hydration and nutrition play a role in maintaining focus and energy levels. Avoid excessive caffeine and opt for healthier snacks during the day.
    10. Practice the “Pomodoro Technique”: This time management method involves working for a set period (e.g., 25 minutes) followed by a short break. After completing several cycles, take a more extended break. This approach can help maintain focus and prevent burnout.
    11. Set boundaries with household chores: It’s easy to get distracted by household tasks while working from home. Try to tackle chores outside of work hours or allocate specific time slots for them.
    12. Stay organized: Keep your workspace tidy and organized. A clutter-free environment can help you think more clearly and avoid unnecessary distractions.

Remember, finding the right balance between focus and flexibility is key when working from home. Experiment with different strategies to see what works best for you, and be patient with yourself as you adjust to this new way of working.

  • Rich Russian and Putin’s ally found dead from a ‘overdose’

Rich Russian and Putin’s ally found dead from a ‘overdose’

The most recent Putin supporter to be discovered dead in unexplained circumstances was a Russian oligarch who created spyware that takes personal information from average citizens.

On Saturday, July 22, 40-year-old Anton Cherepennikov was discovered dead in his Moscow workplace after apparently suffering a heart attack.

The businessman overdosed on “medical gas,” a source in Moscow law enforcement later informed state media.

According to the source, who also asserted that three people paid him a visit in his workplace the night before he passed away, Cherepennikov took the medicine for medicinal grounds but apparently took more than was permitted.

His death’s official cause is still under investigation.

The US Treasury previously imposed sanctions on Cherepennikov’s business, ICS Holding, which was founded in 2018. Citadel is a potent strain of malware that has infected over 11 million machines worldwide and cost over £387 million in losses.

Following the introduction of a 2018 law requiring internet and telephone companies to divulge the private communications and data of their users, it has been claimed that Russia’s Federal Security Bureau (FSB) employed ICS Holdings to conduct mass surveillance of Russian residents.

Additionally, Cherepennikov worked in Moscow on the creation of a complex facial recognition system and was a member of the boards of directors for the mobile network operators Megafon and USM Telecom.

Independent Russian journalist Vasily Polonsky declared, “I do not believe [he] died of cardiac arrest,” and instantly cast doubt on the cause of his passing. It will take time to pinpoint the specific reason for the entrepreneur’s passing.

Anton Gerashchenko, a Ukrainian expert on internal affairs, added his thoughts to the enigma surrounding his passing on Saturday by tweeting, “Yet another mysterious death of a top-manager in Russia.”

Cherepennikov was described as “an absolutely key tool in Putin’s repression” by an opposition source, the Mirror writes.

The security system is getting desperate because the war isn’t working, thus his assassination cannot be ruled out.

Since Putin’s invasion of Ukraine began, a number of Russian businesspeople have inexplicably passed away, with Cherepennikov’s death being the most recent.

Igor Kudryakov, a wealthy oligarch, was also discovered dead in his Moscow flat on Friday. According to official sources, he had died of a “oncological disease.”

In the meantime, FSB officers detained Igor Girkin in Moscow on Friday after accusing him of “inciting extremism.” Girkin is the head of an extreme nationalist group and a vocal opponent of Putin.

Girkin might spend up to five years behind bars if found guilty.

Ghana’s illustrious rapper, Sarkodie, took center stage to eloquently market his beloved homeland as a beacon of peace and tranquility.

During an interaction with renowned radio personality Angela Yee, on ‘Way Up with Angela Yee,’  the wordsmith extraordinaire masterfully painted a vivid picture of Ghana’s serene haven, leaving hosts of the show, Chella H and Angela Yee in awe of its allure.

“It’s a beautiful spot to come to. If you want peace, and security wise. If you don’t want to care about walking at night with nobody bothering you, that’s Ghana. It’s extremely peaceful, beautiful and we love people coming from elsewhere into our country,” he said.

Amidst the rhythms of beats and the symphony of words, Sarkodie’s voice resonated with both passion and pride as he embarked on an ambitious mission – to showcase the untamed beauty of his homeland and dispel any misconceptions that may cloud the perception of this West African state. He also touched on the country’s exceptional hospitality.

“We really know how to host so a lot of your people are still staying there. They don’t want to come back since Christmas. They bought properties out there and they don’t want to come back ‘cus the peace out there is crazy,” he noted.

Fake Uber driver sentenced to 23 years in prison for prowling streets with rape kit

A fake Uber driver who was seen cruising Brighton‘s streets with a “rape kit in his car” was given a 23-year prison term.

Graham Head, 66, was described by the court as a “dangerous, sexual predator” while he was receiving his sentence at Brighton Crown Court.

He was only pulled down after the victim managed to keep some of his personalised licence plate.

The judge commended the woman—who cannot be identified for legal reasons—for her foresight in memorising some of the number plate details and in immediately dialling the police.

“If it weren’t for her, he wouldn’t have been captured, and we wouldn’t be here today,” Judge Jeremy Gold KC said in his honour.

While stalking Brighton’s streets in search of weak, young ladies, Head kept Viagra, rubber gloves, a balaclava, and baby oil in his car.

After a police automobile pursuit across the beach city, the lewd octogenarian was apprehended.

After giving her a ride from Brighton to the park, he made an attempt to rape her.

When her phone rang, he hurried away, the jury was told.

On November 18, a 20-year-old lady reported awakening in what she thought was a cab to discover a man sexually assaulting her.

After giving Head a kick in the groyne, she was able to flee.

Around three in the morning, she dialled the police and was able to recall the first three digits of the licence plate on his silver Mercedes estate.

Police pulled Head over when he was sporting a facemask.

When police investigated his Pevensey, East Sussex residence, they discovered a retractable baton and an incapacitating spray.

Through the use of doorbell and CCTV cameras, investigators pieced together Head’s actions.

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was lauded by Sussex Police for her bravery and fast thinking.

He was a “vibrant, lively, family man,” according to Head’s defence attorney Francesca Levett, but he also had significant long-term health issues.

She claimed that Head suffers from recurring meningitis and an incurable brain aneurysm.

Graham Head is a predatory offender who acquired the trust of his victims by appearing as a taxi driver, only to take advantage of helpless women in the most heinous manner, according to Detective Constable Elliott Lander of the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team.

“The items found in his car demonstrate the callous, premeditated nature of his crimes as he roamed Brighton and Hove looking for potential victims.”

We were able to rapidly link Head to both incidents and bring him to justice because of the quick thinking and bravery of these two women.

I want to thank them both for their assistance with this study.

“Without them, this dangerous person might still be on the loose.”

Instead, he was brought to justice, making the streets of Brighton and Hove safer as a result.

“We suspect Head may have additional victims who have not yet come forward.”

Invoking Operation Cooper, anyone with information is urged to get in touch with the police online or by dialling 101.

  • Video: Paul Adom-Otchere interesting revelation about $800K stolen from Cecilia Dapaah

Metro TV journalist Paul Adom-Otchere, has slammed the Office Of President (OSP) for what he claims is a ‘funfair arrest and unnecessary search’ exhibited by the office meted out to the former Minister of Sanitation, Cecilia Dapaah.

According to him, the OSP’s modus operandi was far from ideal. He expressed dissatisfaction with the approach used by the OSP, suggesting that it could have been handled better or more effectively.

“ There is a reason why the CID department does not wear police uniforms. The reason is Because an individual is innocent until proven guilty, you don’t want to generate a stigma or a narrative that someone is guilty. So until the person has committed a culpable like an armed robber etc they go in plain clothes so that the individual is not stigmatized. If a special prosecutor goes to arrest in a dramatic fashion and it is live on TV.

“ You have to wait for the court to judge, the OSP cannot say that Cecila Dapaah has stolen the money.

“Old people don’t trust internet banking, the banking laws do not frown on keeping monies at home, the police do not cannot prosecute you for keeping money at home,” he added.

His comments come after the OSP searched the home of the former Minister, in respect of suspected corruption and corruption-related offences regarding large amounts of money and other valuable items reportedly stolen from her residence.

Mr Adom-Otchere also denied OSP’s discovery of additional money at Cecilia Abena Dapaah’s residence.

“We understand that it is untrue and the OSP must come out and clarify, we tried to search about this and what we have is that it is not true.

“We don’t know why TV3 has been carrying this story since midday. It has no source, neither the Special Prosecutor or his deputy. If TV3 has further and better particulars, they should publish it tomorrow or even tonight.

“Because our sources indicate that the Special Prosecutor has said it is not true,” he added.

On Friday, July 21, 2023 the home of the former minister was reported to have been robbed of US$1 million, €300,000 and other valuables by two of her domestic servants.

According to Madam Dapaah, the reported amounts of money stolen in the media is inconsistent with the original complaint she filed.

She stepped down from her position owing to pressure from National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament 48 hours after it was revealed that she had lost millions of dollars and cedis in her home.

According to Madam Cecilia Dapaah, her decision is to prevent the matter from becoming a preoccupation of government and a hindrance to the work of government at such a crucial time.

“Whereas I can state emphatically that those figures do not represent correctly what my husband and I reported to the Police, I am very much aware of the import of such stories around someone in my position.”

She also assured of her willingness to cooperate fully with all state agencies to enable them fully establish the facts.

“I have no doubt whatsoever that at the end of the process, it will be fully established that I have conducted myself with integrity during my period in public service and I will be fully exonerated from all the allegations that have filled the public domain in the past 24 hours,” she added.

Horrific discovery of baby cut into pieces inside rucksack in Paris

A young woman was jailed after a newborn was found in a bag at her suburban Paris home, dead and maimed.

The unnamed 21-year-old woman reportedly gave birth in the commune of Stains, which is situated in the Seine-Saint-Denis area in the northern suburbs of the French capital.

The young woman, who lives with her parents, informed two of her acquaintances that she had given birth.

In front of her friends, she allegedly claimed that the infant was stillborn and threatened to dismember it.

The young woman may have given birth on July 17, according to police.

She was reportedly detained on Sunday for committing voluntary homicide on a child under the age of 15.

Doctors labelled her mental state as “fragile” and after being released from the hospital on Monday, she was admitted to a mental health facility.

According to reports, French prosecutors said that they had discovered the newborn “dismembered, in a rucksack, in her room.”

Authorities are looking into whether or not the young woman was aware that she was pregnant and whether she had denial of pregnancy, a condition where a woman is subconsciously aware of her pregnancy but denies it.

Police are looking into whether the young woman’s parents knew about her pregnancy or the possible infanticide.

The inquiry, according to police, is still ongoing.

  • “We must bowed our heads and ask Russia for assistance with wildfires – Ex-Greece minister

“We must bowed our heads and ask Russia for assistance with wildfires – Ex-Greece minister

A former Greek defence minister has encouraged the Greek government to request assistance from Russia in putting out destructive wildfires.

According to Panos Kamennos, it would be difficult to contain the wildfires raging on the islands of Corfu and Rhodes without the Russian Be-200 amphibious aircraft.

Nothing occurs without Beriev, the man said. Let’s bowed our heads and request assistance. They’ll give it to us.

The enormous Russian aircraft Beriev turned out to be a valuable tool in putting out fires during the Greek fire season.

The Beriev Aircraft Company developed and produced the utility amphibious Beriev Be-200 Altair.

Due to the deadly flames that have been raging in Greece for the past week, thousands of visitors have had to leave the country.

A handful of repatriation planes have returned up to 10,000 British tourists who were impacted to the UK.

With a capacity of 12,000 litres (3,200 US gal) of water or up to 72 passengers, it is advertised as being built for firefighting, search and rescue, maritime patrol, freight and passenger transportation.

Eight ferric aluminium alloy water tanks, which are situated under the cabin floor in the central fuselage part of the Be-200 in its amphibious water drop fire-fighter version, are used to drop water to put out fires.

Four retractable water scoops, two ahead and two aft of the fuselage step, can scoop a combined 12 tonnes (26,000 lb) of water in 14 seconds.

As an alternative, a ground-level water cistern or hydrant can be used to fill the tanks.

The water tanks may be easily removed to transport cargo. Water can be poured in up to eight consecutive drops or in one salvo.

Six additional fire-retarding chemical agent auxiliary tanks with a combined capacity of 1.2 m3 (320 US gal) are also carried by the aircraft.

When flying at a speed greater than the minimum drop speed of 220 km/h (140 mph; 120 km), the aircraft may dump its water tanks over a fire in 0.8 to 1.0 seconds.

Additionally, two Be-200ES were utilised in Greece, with RF-32768 battling the season-long 2007 forest fires and RF-21512 operating from August 30 to September 13, 2007.

Greece utilised one aircraft during the summer of 2021

  • All you need to know about Diabetes

All you need to know about Diabetes

Diabetes is a chronic medical condition that affects how your body processes blood sugar (glucose), which is the primary source of energy for your cells. There are two main types of diabetes: Type 1 and Type 2. Here’s what you need to know about each:

    1. Type 1 Diabetes:
    • Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease where the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas.
    • It is usually diagnosed in children and young adults, although it can occur at any age.
    • People with Type 1 diabetes require insulin injections or insulin pump therapy to manage their blood sugar levels.
    • There is no known cure for Type 1 diabetes, and it requires lifelong management.
    1. Type 2 Diabetes:
    • Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes and accounts for around 90-95% of all cases.
    • It occurs when the body either does not produce enough insulin or becomes resistant to insulin’s effects, leading to elevated blood sugar levels.
    • Risk factors for Type 2 diabetes include obesity, sedentary lifestyle, family history, and age (most commonly diagnosed in adults over 45).
    • Type 2 diabetes can often be managed through lifestyle changes such as a healthy diet, regular exercise, and weight loss. Medication or insulin may be prescribed if lifestyle changes are not enough.

    Common Symptoms of Diabetes:

    • Increased thirst and frequent urination
    • Fatigue
    • Unexplained weight loss
    • Blurred vision
    • Slow-healing sores or frequent infections
    • Tingling or numbness in hands or feet

    Complications of Diabetes:

    • Over time, high blood sugar levels can lead to various complications, including:
    • Cardiovascular problems (heart attack, stroke)
    • Kidney damage (diabetic nephropathy)
    • Nerve damage (diabetic neuropathy)
    • Eye problems (diabetic retinopathy)
    • Foot ulcers and infections
    • Increased risk of infections
    • Mental health issues

    Prevention and Management:

    • Regular physical activity and a balanced diet can help prevent or delay Type 2 diabetes.
    • People with diabetes need to monitor their blood sugar levels regularly and follow their healthcare provider’s treatment plan.
    • It is essential to manage blood pressure and cholesterol levels, as well as attend regular check-ups with healthcare professionals.
    • Lifestyle modifications, such as quitting smoking and managing stress, are crucial in diabetes management.

If you suspect you may have diabetes or are at risk, it’s essential to consult a healthcare professional for proper evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment. Early detection and appropriate management can help prevent complications and lead to better outcomes for those living with diabetes.

  • Russian rocket fired at port 200 metres from NATO area

Russian rocket fired at port 200 metres from NATO area

A Russian drone bombed a Ukrainian port on the Danube River in this unnerving occurrence, approximately 200 metres from NATO territory.

Early on Monday, footage was taken from a boat on the river of the attack on the grain storage facilities in the town of Reni, which lit up the Romanian sky.

In its attempts to limit Ukraine‘s crucial agricultural exports to the rest of the globe, Russia came the closest to assaulting a member of the alliance since the war’s beginning in February 2022.

It was stressed by Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis that this presented a “serious risk to the security of the Black Sea.”

He blasted the demonstration along the Danube River and warned that the most recent escalation “affects further Ukrainian grain transit and global food security.”

The Russian military has increased its airstrikes on civilian targets in the Odesa region ever since the Russian Federation unilaterally chose to discontinue taking part in the Black Sea Grain Initiative, said Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.

“We demand that the Russian Federation immediately cease aerial attacks against Ukrainian port infrastructure.”

The Russian Federation’s targeting of port infrastructure, which has a detrimental effect on global food security and puts many people in danger, is another evidence of its desire to obstruct Ukrainian grain exports to foreign markets.

It was the most recent in a string of assaults that have recently destroyed crucial infrastructure in southern Ukraine.

According to the Ukrainian military, four personnel suffered injuries and a grain hangar and a storehouse for other commodities were both destroyed.

The attacks were billed as payback for last week’s attack on the vital Kerch Bridge connecting Russia and Crimea by the Kremlin.

Oleh Kiper, the regional governor of Odesa, claimed that Russian drones of Iranian manufacture had been attacking for four hours and that Ukrainian air defences had shot down three of them.

Dmytro Kuleba, the Ukrainian foreign minister, posted on Twitter that “Russia hit another Ukrainian grain storage overnight.”

By keeping 400 million people hostage, it tries to get concessions.

“I urge all countries to mount a coordinated global response to food terrorism, especially those in Africa and Asia that are most impacted by rising food prices.”

  • Cletus Seidu Dapilah displeased with the abolishment of death penalty

Cletus Seidu Dapilah displeased with the abolishment of death penalty

While many, particularly human rights advocates, are pleased with the repeal of Ghana’s Criminal Offences (Amendment) Bill 2022 by Parliament, the Member of Parliament for Jirapa, Cletus Seidu Dapilah, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the decision.

According to him, he is unhappy about the passing of the Bill because, during its existence, it served as a deterrent to potential offenders.

He further noted that although no president under Ghana’s Fourth Republic had ever authorized the execution of any individual on death row, having the law in place compelled these Heads of State to fulfill their duties.

A report by 3news.com highlighted his concerns, where he also mentioned that having the law in the statutes did not impose any financial burden on the nation.

“I can tell you that the law being on our books does not cost anything. I can tell you it deters people and now we have lost that deterrence and we shouldn’t be surprised we see people killing others anyhow knowing that they will be in prison for life and the government will feed me,” he explained.

On Tuesday, July 25, 2023, Ghana’s parliament made a significant move by officially repealing the death penalty from the country’s statute books. This milestone was achieved through the approval of an amendment to the Criminal and Other Offences Act. The driving force behind this progressive change was the Member of Parliament for Madina, Francis-Xavier Sosu, who sponsored the Bill. While parliament has given its approval, the final step in enacting this change into law requires the signature of the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, which is yet to be obtained.

Ghana Police on a manhunt for Kumasi-Bawku bus attackers

The Ghana Police Service has initiated an extensive manhunt for unidentified gunmen who perpetrated a lethal attack on a Kumasi-Bawku bound bus in Walewale, situated in the North East Region last Friday, resulting in the tragic death of one person and leaving numerous others injured.

Astonishingly, the bus caught fire while parked for investigation and safety purposes right in front of the Walewale police station.

The authorities suspect the attack is linked to the ongoing chieftaincy-related conflict in the Bawku enclave.

According to reports gathered by the Daily Graphic, the bus was ferrying passengers from Kumasi to Bawku, and upon reaching the outskirts of Walewale, assailants opened fire on the vehicle, causing the fatal casualty and injuries.

Although the bus was subsequently towed to the police station, it inexplicably caught fire and was reduced to ashes.

A statement from the police confirmed that a thorough investigation has been launched to apprehend the culprits behind the heinous act. Concurrently, the West Mamprusi Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) has strongly condemned the attack, calling for an expeditious and meticulous investigation to ensure the perpetrators face justice.

The Municipal Chief Executive and Chairman of MUSEC, Issahaku Arimeyaw Somo, expressed his dismay at the barbaric and unfortunate attack on innocent passengers, asserting their unwavering commitment to holding those involved accountable and subjecting them to the full force of the law.

    Court adjourns NAM1’s case again

The Accra Circuit Court has once again been forced to adjourn the case of Nana Appiah Mensah, widely known as NAM 1, who is the embattled Chief Executive Officer of Menzgold, due to ongoing delays in court proceedings. NAM 1 has been facing legal battles since July 2019 following his arrest on allegations of defrauding numerous individuals through his investment scheme, Menzgold.

Despite nearly four years passing since his initial arrest and subsequent court appearances, NAM 1 has not yet faced formal charges, and the state is eagerly awaiting the Attorney General’s advice on the matter. The accused is confronted with a total of 61 charges, including the charge of false pretenses.

During the latest adjournment, ASP Emmanuel Haligah, standing in for the substantive prosecutor, informed the court about the persisting delay in receiving the Attorney General’s guidance. The case’s most recent adjournment is set for September 20, 2023, and during these court proceedings, NAM 1 has been visibly present, exuding his “youthful exuberance.”

The court was presented with previous facts during the proceedings, revealing that approximately 16,000 individuals filed complaints against Menzgold around October 2018. These individuals alleged that they were convinced to invest GH¢1.68 billion in a gold purchase scheme that promised an alluring 10% monthly interest. The prosecution further disclosed that the complainants claimed their funds were locked up, and they were unable to locate NAM 1 and other key officials of Menzgold.

In-depth investigations unveiled that Menzgold and Brew Marketing Consult were incorporated as limited liability companies in 2013 and 2016, respectively. Menzgold acquired a license from the Minerals Commission in August 2016, ostensibly to purchase and export gold from small-scale miners, while Brew Marketing Consult was established by NAM 1 as a gold buying agent. However, it was discovered that Menzgold did not possess the necessary license from the Minerals Commission to engage in gold trading, yet it publicly solicited deposits from the public, promising returns over a fixed period under the guise of gold purchasing.

In connection with the case, NAM 1’s wife, Rose Tetteh, and sister, Benedicta Appiah, are currently at large and have been identified as directors and principal officers of Menzgold and Brew Marketing Consult. The legal proceedings continue as the court grapples with the complexities of the case and awaits the Attorney General’s advice to move forward with formal charges against NAM 1 and the other implicated parties.

Ghana Medical Relief organizes free health screening for the Northen Region

A free health screening initiative conducted by the USA-based non-profit organisation Ghana Medical Relief (GMR) in partnership with the Institute for Promotion of Health, Education and the Arts of Technology (iHPET) has benefited about 10,000 people in the Northern Region.

A variety of health conditions were screened on the beneficiaries, including diabetes, hepatitis B, dental infections, eye infections, and blood pressure.

The beneficiaries were cared for by a group of medical professionals, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, lab technicians, and eye specialists.

When beneficiaries were diagnosed with various diseases, some of them received free medication, while others received counselling and were directed to specific departments of the Tamale Teaching Hospital and other medical facilities for additional care.

In the region, the screening took place in Tamale, Yendi, Saboba, and Bimbilla, which are the four zones.

In addition, the organisation is free-of-charge enrolling about 2,000 individuals into the National Health Insurance Scheme so they can have access to medical care.

The President of the Ghana Medical Relief, Dr Samuel Owusu, said the gesture formed part of the organisation’s commitment to provide free healthcare services to the people, particularly those who could not afford it.

He indicated that the organisation had been providing free medical care to communities in the country for the past five years to improve the health care of the people.

He reiterated the organisation’s commitment to continue to give back to society, stating that “some of the communities are suffering to access health care due to circumstances beyond their control and their income level”.

“The free health screening has come to ease the burden on parents and caretakers in this region.

I urge all the beneficiaries to prioritise their health by doing regular check-ups at the health facilities ” Dr Owusu noted.

    Commendation

For his part, the acting Northern Regional Director of Health Services, Dr Braimah Baba Abubakari, commended the organisation for selecting the region to benefit from the free medical screening exercises.

He reiterated his outfit’s commitment to continue to partner various organisations to deliver quality healthcare services to the people.

I still pay artistes who have exited my record label – Sarkodie

Ghanaian Rapper Sarkodie has admitted that even though he no longer runs the Sarkcess record label, he continues to pay Akwaboah and Strongman.

The Countryside hitmaker revealed this on the Angela Yee-hosted “Way Up Show” in New York City. He said he has a great deal of empathy for them and genuinely cares about their well-being.

“I have a unique approach to artiste management that prioritises fairness, mutual respect, and genuine care for their well-being.
“I feel for them and I feel like I’ll like to give them what I would want if I had the same situation.
“Probably, I was one of the only labels that would give 50/50 percentage while I was putting in the money because that’s what I would ever love for myself. All my artistes had a good run with me, and they still get paid though they’re not on my label.
“I just felt at a certain point I just need to look out for artistes,” Sarkodie stated.

There is no denying the positive relationship Sarkodie still enjoys with his former signees. Akwaboah has always had the utmost respect for Sarkodie’s assistance, which included his first trip abroad while a signee on his record label.
Strongman said he gained a lot from being on Sarkodie’s Sarkcess Music in a recent interview with kbNkansah.com that was observed by Graphic Showbiz. But his decision to leave the record company also marked a turning point in his career.
“I think when I was about to leave SarkCess was when I started to make money in music. Before SarkCess, I had some money that I could use to buy a car but I didn’t and rather spent it on another thing,” he noted during the interview.

  • One of the longest-serving dictators in the world, Hun Sen to transfer power to his son

One of the longest-serving dictators in the world, Hun Sen to transfer power to his son

Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen announced his resignation and the impending election of his son Hun Manet in a speech on Wednesday.

He also stated that this would take place in the following weeks and that Hun Manet would be appointed prime minister on August 10.

Hun Sen, who has ruled Southeast Asia for over 40 years, was speaking just a few days after the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) scored a resounding victory in the nation’s general election despite facing virtually no opposition.

He announced, “I’ll keep leading the ruling party and serving in the National Assembly.

A new cabinet will be sworn in on August 22 and the freshly elected parliament will convene on August 21, according to Hun Sen.

  • UK government chastised for misjudging Wagner group

UK government chastised for misjudging Wagner group

The Foreign Affairs Committee of the UK Parliament strongly chastised the British government in a report it released on Wednesday for failing to acknowledge the substantial threat presented by Russia’s Wagner private military corporation (PMC) for almost ten years.

In its report, “Guns for Gold: The Wagner Network Exposed,” the committee claims that the government “underplayed and underestimated the Wagner Network’s activities, as well as the security implications of its significant expansion.”

One of the issues, according to the paper, is that the British government saw Wagner “through the prism of Europe,” which the committee considers to be a “significant failing” given the “geographic spread and the impact of its activities on UK interests further abroad.”

According to the assessment, Wagner’s actions in Ukraine “are not representative of the network’s operations globally,” and the PMC had been operational in at least seven countries for up to ten years before the UK began investing more resources in understanding it in 2022.

The study finds that it is rather disappointing that it took so long and that the government still gives countries outside of Ukraine such little consideration. Given that this network is known for changing its shape, we are even less prepared to adapt to its evolution.

The document goes on to say that “the Government’s failure to address the Wagner Network leads us to conclude that there is a fundamental lack of knowledge of, and policy on, other malign PMCs.”

The report goes on to say that the UK’s efforts to sanction individuals and groups associated with Wagner are “underwhelming in the extreme,” particularly in light of comparable actions taken by the US and the EU, which have sanctioned roughly twice as many people and organisations in the network as the UK has.

According to the report, the government has not made clear what it is doing to address the network’s influence and impunity outside of Ukraine. According to the statement, “We have not seen any direct evidence of any effort by the Government to monitor the activities of the Network in other countries.”

The investigation calls for the government to learn more about Wagner’s operations “in a wider range of countries” and calls for “faster and harder” punishments against people involved in the network, even going so far as to offer a list. It further calls on the government to “urgently proscribe the Wagner Network as a terrorist organisation” and provide an alternative for countries relying on the PMC’s assistance.

  • Taiwan’s biggest airport used as battlefield to mock Chinese invasion

Taiwan’s biggest airport used as battlefield to mock Chinese invasion

On Wednesday, the island’s military conducted an anti-takeover drill at Taoyuan International Airport in Taiwan for the first time ever in an effort to fend off any prospective attack from Beijing.

The exercise was designed to test the Taiwanese military’s capacity to cooperate across branches and handle problems during a made-up Chinese invasion, according to a previous statement from the Ministry of National Defence.

The exercise at Taiwan‘s busiest international entry point, which included soldiers on the runway and military helicopters in the sky, demonstrates how Taipei is preparing for a variety of contingencies in the face of concerns about China’s escalating military intimidation, which concerns have grown since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began last year.

Taiwan is a self-governing democracy that China’s ruling Communist Party claims as its territory despite never having had control of it. Taiwan has been the target of years of diplomatic isolation by China.

Beijing has not ruled out using force to annex Taiwan, and it has been applying increasing amounts of military pressure on Taipei by sending aircraft into its own self-declared air defence identification zone and by stationing warships in the waterways surrounding the island.

Airports are prime targets, as Moscow’s ultimately fruitless attempt to seize Kyiv’s Hostomel Airport during the initial phases of their invasion last year plainly shown.

Wearing red helmets to symbolise imaginary infiltrators, Taoyuan military personnel and airport police on Wednesday engaged in a gunfire practise. Additionally, firefighters practised extinguishing fictitious fires.

As they flew over the airport, military helicopters staged the deployment of enemy soldiers on the runway. As they moved closer to an airport facility, they engaged in gunfire with the Taiwanese soldiers guarding the location as well as those who were hiding under homemade covers.

The drills, which lasted 30 minutes, came to an end as the Taiwanese military practised routing any hostile forces that were still there and raising the Taiwan flag to indicate their imaginary successful defence of the airport.

The airport drill was recently included to the Han Kuang military exercise, which has been staged yearly since 1984 and involves all military branches in Taiwan, including the reserve forces, in an effort to improve overall defence capabilities.

Aircraft landing and taking off were momentarily barred during the exercise due to airspace management procedures, a Taoyuan International Airport spokeswoman told CNN.

The airport rescheduled eight flights, but there was “no major impact” on travellers, the official continued.

As Typhoon Doksuri made landfall in the northern Philippines on Wednesday, Taiwan’s military suspended some of its Han Kuang drills.

According to the island’s Central Weather Bureau, the storm’s outer bands are already having an effect on eastern Taiwan and are expected to continue moving towards the island and China over the next few days.

The Ministry of National Defence stated in a statement on Monday that Taiwan’s Air Force opted to cancel the drills at Taitung’s Fengnian airport on its eastern beaches on Tuesday owing to “safety concerns” as the storm neared.

  • Independent experts depart Mexico over obstacles in 43 missing kids case

Independent experts depart Mexico over obstacles in 43 missing kids case

A panel of independent specialists looking into the 2014 disappearance of 43 students from a rural teachers’ college in Mexico stated they were ending their investigation because they were denied access to critical evidence by the government.

The students vanished while visiting the city of Iguala in the southwest of Mexico. The Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts (GIEI), a group of lawyers and medical professionals, is in Mexico to look into their disappearance.

The experts, however, announced they would be ending the inquiry and departing the nation next week after giving their final fact-finding report on Tuesday due to a number of obstacles.

The Prosecutor’s Office must criticise and look into the failure to submit available information for the investigation of heinous occurrences like these, according to the GIEI report.

At a morning press conference on Tuesday, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador stated that his administration was “going to continue the investigation.”

On September 26, 2014, the college-aged students from a teachers’ college in Ayotzinapa vanished as they passed through the city of Iguala in the southwest on their way to a protest in Mexico City.

Since the vast majority of the missing pupils were never located, it is still unclear exactly what transpired.

Later, buses with shattered windows and blood were observed in the city’s streets. Those who survived from the original 100-person group claimed that armed police officers and troops had stopped their buses and then suddenly opened fire.

At least 83 arrest warrants for suspects in the 2014 disappearance were issued by a Mexican court in August of last year, but nobody has been found guilty as of yet.

several military leaders, troops, police officers, administrative, and judicial officials are among the several individuals who have been charged with “organised crime, forced disappearance, torture, homicide, and crimes against the administration of justice.”

The GIEI specialists claimed that up until a “critical point in August 2022,” the inquiry was subject to pressures and challenges like “lack of information,” “secrecy,” and “hidden evidence.”

The group further claimed that the GIEI was compelled to stop the inquiry in 2016 and was only allowed back in 2020 by President Obrador’s newly elected government, who had promised to look into the disappearance during his campaign.

According to GIEI member Carlos Beristain, “the withholding of that information has contributed not only to the concealment of government responsibilities, but it has constituted in itself a responsibility of the state in the disappearance of these young men.”

He continued, “Access to information has only been partial and another part of it continues to be hidden.”

Another panellist, Angela Buitrago, said that crucial intelligence files were unavailable to the experts.

She explained, “That requirement was to have all the data that was in the files that had not been examined, like intelligence files.

“We are leaving because we cannot move further without that information. The reason we are leaving Mexico is because, “Really, we have delivered this report with what could be done, but we cannot move forward without that information.” she added

  • Pro-democracy group in Sudan talks about ways to end conflict

Pro-democracy group in Sudan talks about ways to end conflict

On Tuesday (July 25), a group of Sudanese who support democracy demanded an end to the country’s strife and opposed the deployment of different militaries there.

The group, known as the Forces for the Declaration of Freedom and Change, expressed their hope that a solution to the conflict would result in the establishment of a “Sudanese state free from wars and the building of an armed forces that serve the Sudanese people based on principles and values” in a press conference with reporters in Cairo, the capital of Egypt.

Yasir Arman, a member of the bloc’s executive office, declared: “We are against the multiple armies.”

Arman added that the bloc has no issues with the arrival of IGAD and other international forces to oversee any cease-fire and an end to hostilities.

As part of the process to end the war, he emphasised, “there should be preparation for the deployment of these forces to monitor the final ceasefire, not to occupy Sudan.”

Since the beginning of April, when months-long tensions between the military and its competitor, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, erupted into open combat in Khartoum, the capital, and other parts of the country in northeastern Africa, the country of Sudan has been in a state of turmoil.

Over 2 million people have been displaced by the battle between the leader of the RSF paramilitary group and the general of the Sudanese army.

The horrors of the conflict include assaults on hospitals and rapes.

Accountability was demanded by representatives of the FFC, a coalition of militants and many political parties.

According to Sediq al Sadik al- Mahdi, a member of the Sudan Forces for the Declaration of Freedom and Change’s executive office, “in this context, we affirm that we deal with violations as a matter of human rights and ethics.”

“We demand that any infractions stop right away, and that an independent inquiry be carried out to find the offenders and hold them accountable. Adopting efficient processes is necessary to provide victims justice, hold offenders accountable, offer restitution, and pay those who have been harmed.

The fighting dashed Sudanese expectations of resuming the nation’s democratic transition, which had started with the overthrow of longtime tyrant Al-Bashir. The transition was halted in October 2021 by a coup that was organised by the military and RSF.

  • U.S. sanctions three colonels from Mali for supporting Wagner organization

U.S. sanctions three colonels from Mali for supporting Wagner organization

For having “facilitated the deployment and expansion” of the Russian paramilitary group Wagner‘s actions in Mali, the United States on Monday slapped economic sanctions against three Malian officers, among them the current Minister of Defence.

Three Malian army personnel are the focus of these sanctions: Colonel Sadio Camara, Minister of Defence and French national, Colonel Alou Boi Diarra, and Lieutenant-Colonel Adama Bagayoko, both Air Force officials.

According to a statement from the US Treasury, there is “evidence showing that these Malian officials contributed to the malicious activities of the Wagner group in Mali”.

The Wagner Group’s entrenchment in Mali during the last two years has been exposed by today’s action, according to important Malian officials. Brian Nelson, the under secretary of the Treasury for financial and terrorist intelligence, was quoted as saying in the statement.

“These officials have made their people vulnerable to the Wagner Group’s destabilising activities and human rights abuses while paving the way for the exploitation of their country’s sovereign resources to benefit the Wagner Group’s operations in Ukraine,” he continued.

These three officials are not allowed to conduct business with American citizens or firms, and their American assets have been blocked.

Washington claims that since the Wagner group arrived in Mali in December 2021, there have been 278% more civilian casualties there, particularly as a result of actions conducted by the Malian armed forces alongside members of the Wagner group.

The United States imposed economic penalties on this group in June 2017 and subsequently renewed them in January 2018.

Following Yevgeny Prigojine’s 24-hour insurrection in Russia in June, Wagner’s future, who fought in the Ukraine and whose presence has been confirmed in various African nations as well as Syria, is in doubt.

Moscow stated that the “countries involved” will determine its future in Africa.

  • At least one person killed by Typhoon Doksuri as Philippines battles floods and landslides

At least one person killed by Typhoon Doksuri as Philippines battles floods and landslides

Authorities in the Philippines reported that a powerful storm on Wednesday killed at least one person and caused extensive flooding and landslides.

Typhoon Doksuri, also known as Egay in the Philippines, has caused floods in five different provinces and more than a dozen rain-induced landslides, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

In the northern and central regions of Calabarzon as well as Western Visayas, the agency reports that two individuals were injured and one victim was killed.

At 3:10 a.m. local time, or 3:10 p.m. ET, the storm made ashore near to the remote northern Fuga Island, according to Pagasa, the Philippine weather office.

According to the Joint Typhoon Warning Centre, Doksuri landed with winds of roughly 220 kilometres per hour (140 mph), which is equivalent to a category 4 Atlantic hurricane, although having lost some of its super typhoon intensity.

The largest and most populous island in the Philippines, Luzon, was predicted to experience violent and life-threatening circumstances as torrential rains ravaged the nation.

According to Pasgasa, the typhoon’s 680-kilometer (420-mile) rainband dropped up to 16 inches (0.4 metres) of rain, with the potential to rise to 20 inches (0.5 metres).

Additionally, authorities issued a 3 metre (almost 10 foot) tide surge warning.

In anticipation of gusts topping 200 kph (124 mph), local governments started evacuating some residents of the storm’s route on Tuesday.

More than 12,000 people had been evacuated from coastal and mountain villages by Tuesday evening, according to the governor of Cagayan province, which closed its offices and suspended classes.

According to Governor Cagayan Manuel Mamba, “It’s a powerful typhoon and we want to take as many preemptive measures as we can.”

Additionally, from Wednesday through Friday, authorities cancelled at least 12 domestic flights.

Although Taiwan and China are preparing for the possibility of significant rains and severe winds, the typhoon is predicted to decrease as it moves towards the northwest.

Taiwan postponed some of its annual military exercises on Tuesday due to the typhoon as it prepared for what may be the worst storm to hit the autonomous island in four years.

Eastern Taiwan is currently being impacted by the typhoon’s outer bands, according to the Central Weather Bureau of the island. As it moves northwest, it is anticipated to continue to weaken until it is only a category 1 hurricane, with the possibility of making a second landfall in the next two days on China’s southern coastline.

Doksuri is expected to make landfall in the southeast coast, where the provinces of Fujian and Guangdong converge, by Friday, prompting China’s National Meteorological Centre to issue a typhoon emergency warning at the highest level on Wednesday.

In order to prevent flooding of farms, Chinese officials have instructed fishing vessels to return to port immediately.

Moldova summons Russian ambassador over a news on alleged monitoring gadgets

Moldova has reportedly summoned the Russian ambassador in Chisinau following media reports that the embassy had installed listening devices on its rooftop, according to the Moldovan foreign ministry.

It comes in the wake of this week’s claims from Insider and Jurnal TV in Moldova that 28 satellite dishes and other communication equipment had been installed on the rooftop of the Russian embassy and an adjacent residential structure that was used by embassy staff.

The Moldovan foreign ministry said in a statement that it is investigating the nature and scope of these espionage activities as well as the activity of the individuals mentioned in the investigation so that it can respond to the situation “appropriately and promptly.”

”We deem all actions of espionage and foreign interference in domestic matters of the Republic of Moldova that directly threaten our state’s sovereignty and national security to be wholly unacceptable”, it continued.

Oleg Vasnetsov, the Russian ambassador in Chisinau, was invited to a meeting on Tuesday “to provide clarifications and explanations on the situation,” the ministry said.

The conclusion of the report stated that “depending on further developments, the Moldovan authorities will consider several options for a response.”

  • Paul Adom-Otchere calls out TV3 on ‘fake’ “more money found in Cecila Dapaah’s home” story

Paul Adom-Otchere calls out TV3 on ‘fake’ “more money found in Cecila Dapaah’s home” story

Metro TV journalist Paul Adom-Otchere, has rejected reports that the Office of Special Prosecutor found more money at the residence of former sanitation minister Cecilia Abena Dapaah.

This statement contradicts a report by Accra-based TV3 news network, which had earlier claimed that cash sums amounting to US$1 million, €300,000, and GHc350,000 were discovered at her residence.

During his show “Good Evening Ghana” on July 25, Adom-Otchere stated that checks conducted by his team with the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) revealed that no such money was found during their search on July 24. He further mentioned that the OSP denied the existence of any new stash of money as reported by TV3.

The news of the alleged missing funds came to light on July 21, 2023, when the Chronicle Newspaper broke the story, sending shock waves throughout Ghanaian society. It was reported that Cecilia Abena Dapaah, who was then the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, had lodged a formal complaint with the police, resulting in a charge sheet being prepared against two former employees (house helps) accused of stealing and dissipating some of the money.

The search for the missing money took place in 2022, but the case only recently went before the Accra Circuit Court. TV3’s reporter, Eric Mawuena Egbeta, cited sources within the Office of the Special Prosecutor claiming that a new stash of cash was found during the search at Dapaah’s residence, taking five hours to count.

While the news report mentioned that both Dapaah’s official residence at Cantonments and her private residence at Abelemkpe were searched, it did not specify which of the two residences had the alleged new sums of money.

Subsequently, some of Dapaah’s relatives have also been questioned regarding the missing funds, which led to her resignation from office and the ongoing probe by the OSP. On July 24, she was granted bail after being arrested and having her residence searched by officials from the Office of the Special Prosecutor.

Italy coping with harsh weather, including wildfires, heat, and enormous hail

Italy is experiencing multiple types of extreme weather at once, with the north being blasted by fatal storms while the south being burned by sweltering heat.

Italian authorities report that six people have died as a result of harsh weather just on Tuesday.

Intense storms that slammed northern Italy early on Tuesday morning claimed the lives of a mother and a youngster when trees fell on them.

In Sicily’s southern island and the seaside city of Reggio Calabria, flames resulted in the deaths of four elderly people.

After storms caused extensive damage in the area, the fire department in Italy reported that they responded to 400 emergency calls for shattered windows, roof damage, water, and fallen trees.

Tornadoes, powerful winds, and other severe weather have recently wreaked havoc in northern Italy. 100 people were hurt last week when tennis ball-sized hail fell in the Veneto area.

The south is sweating under an extraordinary heat wave as storms affect the north.

On Monday, temperatures in some areas of Sicily reached 47.4 Celsius (117.3 Fahrenheit), coming very close to the continent’s all-time high temperature of 48.8 Celsius, which was established in 2021.

The environment is being prepared for fires by the heat; these fires have already claimed at least one life.

An 88-year-old woman from Sicily perished outside Palermo as one of the four people killed by wildfires, a government spokeswoman told CNN. According to CNN station SkyTG24, the woman, who had major health difficulties, passed away because doctors could not reach her because of the wildfires.

According to the Italian fire service, more than 40 fires broke out across Sicily on Monday night, including one at the Bellolampo landfill that released toxic vapours.

A number of residences in the affected area have been damaged, and more than 1,500 people have been evacuated.

The Falcone Borsellino airport in Palermo was closed for several hours on Tuesday owing to the flames, but it reopened later in the morning and major airline aircraft are now permitted to land and take off with significant delays.

The Palermo airport administration reports that most low-cost planes have been redirected to the airport in Trapani.

According to the Catania airport administration, operation at Sicily’s other main airport has been restricted following a fire in one of the terminals there last week. According to Reuters, Catania has also experienced electricity and water supply interruptions, possibly as a result of the intense heat.

A large fire started in the San Felice harbour in Vieste, forcing the evacuation of 2,000 more guests from three hotels in the Puglia region.

Nello Musumeci, Italy’s minister for civil protection and marine policies, stated on Tuesday that the country is going through extremely challenging circumstances.

“We are currently experiencing one of the most challenging days in recent memory, with storms, tornadoes, and enormous hail in the North and sweltering heat and destructive fires in the Center-South. The firefighters, civil protection managers and volunteers, police forces, forestry workers, and all those who are mobilised in the most difficult circumstances deserve our gratitude, Musumeci said in a message on Twitter. “While we grieve the three victims of these twenty-four hours.

Scientists agree that extreme weather events like heat waves and storms will only increase in frequency and intensity as the human-caused climate catastrophe worsens. According to a research released on Tuesday, the recent heat wave in southern Europe would have been “virtually impossible” without climate change.

Italy is especially vulnerable since it is situated in the Mediterranean, a region that is experiencing rapid climate change.

According to Musumeci, “the climate upheaval that has affected our country imposes a change of pace on all of us.”

  • Taiwan police being probed after failed sting operation results in sexual assault of juvenile

Taiwan police being probed after failed sting operation results in sexual assault of juvenile

Following a bungled sting operation that resulted in a youngster being sexually abused, two Taiwanese police officers are being looked into. This has caused outrage in the community and a formal apologies from the local police department.

According to a court decision made earlier this month that sparked an investigation into police behaviour, the event started in November 2020 when an anonymous 13-year-old girl met a man, Chang Ming-hsin, via a dating app.

The court found that Chang offered the girl 5,000 New Taiwan dollars (about $160) in exchange for her consent to have sex with him in exchange for nude images. They made plans to meet up at a hotel a few days later, but when the girl failed to show up, Chang threatened to post her pornographic images online.

According to the verdict, she then reported the incident to the Zhongli Precinct of the Taoyuan Police Department in Taoyuan city, which is located not far from Taipei. The decision revealed that the police set up a sting operation in which the girl agreed to meet with Chang under the false pretence of having sex with him.

The girl was with a guardian when she reported the incident, gave a statement to police, and when the operation was conducted, a precinct spokesperson said last week. According to the spokeswoman, the guardian had consented to the sting operation.

Two police officers were on the scene to keep an eye on the meeting when the girl encountered Chang during the operation and requested him to get out of the car. He continually ordered her to get in, however, and took the young woman to a parking place between 200 and 300 metres (656 to 984 feet) away.

The verdict stated that she consented to Chang’s request to engage in oral sex with him out of fear.

Chang then drove the girl back to the restaurant, where he was apprehended by authorities. Chang’s case came to a conclusion on July 13 when the Taoyuan District Court sentenced him to eight years in prison for three counts of sexual offences, including pressuring a kid to commit obscene activities and transactional sex.

However, the police’s participation in the failed sting has drawn more criticism and attention from around the world.

The girl had been told by police not to get into Chang’s car, and when she did, the police officers there tried to chase after the car, but they were “not fast enough” to stop it, according to Focus Taiwan, an offshoot of Taiwan’s official Central News Agency.

Focus Taiwan reports that the girl allegedly did not mention the attack during the subsequent police and prosecutor investigations, only revealing it after Chang’s court case.

However, a representative of the Taoyuan Police Department, which is in charge of the police precinct, issued a video statement on Saturday in which they expressed regret for their carelessness about the girl’s personal safety and the damage they had done to her.

The district prosecutor’s office has been tasked with investigating the two cops who participated in the sting operation for alleged negligence and failing to perform their duties, according to the spokesperson. They have since been reassigned and given demerits in order to only undertake administrative police duties.

According to the spokesperson, two additional police officers who were in charge of the operation also earned demerits due to the harm done to the reputation of the police force.

    Judicial Council summons Dormaahene

Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, the Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area, who also serves as a High Court judge, has been summoned before the Judicial Council due to recent comments he made about a court case.

The case in question involved the criminal prosecution of Member of Parliament for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson.

Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, known in his legal capacity as Justice Daniel Mensah, made the comments at an event organized by the John Evans Atta Mills Heritage in Sunyani. He called on the Attorney General to file a nolle prosequi in the case of the MP.

The chief argued that since the MP had been re-elected, following the cancellation of his 2020 election by a Supreme Court panel, there is overwhelming public endorsement of his candidature. He believed that this should lead to the discontinuation of his prosecution.

Additionally, he advocated for an amendment to the existing legal regime regarding the ineligibility of dual citizens to be elected as Members of Parliament.

His statements received significant criticism, especially from pro-government individuals, and have reportedly led to his appearance before a committee of the Judicial Council. This committee is chaired by the Chief Justice, Gertrude Araba Sackey Torkonoo.

In response to the Judicial Council’s actions, the opposition National Democratic Congress has condemned their decision, viewing it as persecution against the Dormaahene (Paramount Chief).

  • Togo wants to take over Ghana’s Volta Lake

Togo wants to take over Ghana’s Volta Lake

Dr. Clifford Braimah, the Managing Director of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), the Republic of Togo has made attempts to lay claim to the Volta Lake. This issue arose during negotiations over the Sogakofe-Lome Transboundary Water Supply Project between Ghana and Togo.

Dr. Braimah disclosed this information while appearing before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee in Accra. He mentioned that negotiations between the two countries have been slow, with both parties trying to find common ground before proceeding with the project.

One of the contentious points is that the Togolese authorities want Ghana to bear the majority of the risk associated with the project, while they would receive 85% of the water to be produced. Additionally, they wish to take raw water and treat it themselves, while Ghana wants to treat the water at Sogakofe and distribute it to communities along the route.

Furthermore, Togo has attempted to lay claim to the resource itself, arguing that both countries jointly own the Volta, and thus, Ghana cannot impose charges on them. However, Ghana contends that the water for the project originates from Burkina Faso.

The GWCL is engaged in negotiations to secure the best deal for Ghana, both financially and in terms of the project’s implementation. Dr. Braimah emphasized that Ghanaian authorities cannot afford to let Togo take advantage of the situation without getting a fair agreement.

The Sogakofe-Lome Transboundary Water Supply Project aims to transfer treated water from Sogakofe in the Volta Region to the Togolese capital, Lome, with an estimated cost of US$110 million in 2005.

In a separate matter, the Ghanaian government is actively working to increase water production to the Northern and Savannah regional capitals, Tamale and Damango, respectively, and their surrounding areas. The Damango water project has been delayed due to financial constraints, but necessary agreements for the release of the US$49 million project cost have been signed and are currently with Deutsche Bank.

To address the immediate water needs of Damango, the GWCL has developed an artesian well drilled in 2015 to treat water for the local community. The long-term plan is to build a larger treatment plant at Yapei on the White Volta and distribute water to Tamale and Damango.

  • $800,000 of Cecilia Dapaah’s stolen cash belonged to her late brother – Paul Adom-Otchere

Host of Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana Paul Adom-Otchere has revealed that $800,000 of the money stolen from former Sanitation Minister Cecilia private residency belonged to his late brother bequeathed to his mother.

The $800,000 was handed to Madam Cecilia Dapaah for safe keeping by her mother who later passed on.

Mr Adom-Otchere claims this revelation is according to the charge sheet filed by Mrs Dapaah’s to the Ghana Police.

Only $200,000 belonged to Cecilia Dapaah and €300,000 belonged to her architect husband Daniel Osei Kufuor.

Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, has been arrested by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

This was confirmed in a statement signed by the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng dated July 24, 2023.

This follows a court case in which two house helps and others are standing trial for allegedly stealing $1 million, €300,000 and millions of cedis from her Ablekuma residence.

Two of her house helps, Patience Botwe (18) and Sarah Agyei (30), were previously charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and five counts of stealing, following the alleged incidents between July and October 2022.

  • Russian account of attack that claimed 50 Ukrainian detainees rejected by UN

Russian account of attack that claimed 50 Ukrainian detainees rejected by UN

The United Nations has stated that the evidence does not corroborate Russian claims of a missile strike on a camp housing Ukrainian prisoners of war in July 2022.

In that year’s strike on an Olenivka detention facility, more than 50 Ukrainian detainees perished. The conclusions of the UN Human Rights Commissioner (OHCHR) now confirm a lengthy CNN investigation from August of last year that found the Russian claim that the camp had been struck by a Ukrainian HIMARS rocket did not hold up to scrutiny.

The strike, according to Russian and local officials from the self-declared Donetsk People’s Republic, was launched by the Ukrainian side using one of the HIMARS rockets that the US had recently given.

Andrey Lazarev, who works for the Zvezda media outlet of the Russian Defence Ministry, pointed to shards the morning following the explosion. One of the bits contained the serial number of a HIMARS rocket in exceptionally good condition.

According to Major General Igor Konashenkov, spokesman for the Russian Defence Ministry, the detention facility was “hit by a missile attack from the American HIMARS.”

The Russian version of events is very likely a fiction, according to CNN’s research, which was based on analysis of video and pictures taken at the scene, satellite imagery taken before and after the attack, and the work of forensic and weapons specialists. The likelihood that a HIMARS rocket damaged the facility where the inmates were housed is quite low.

CNN examined experts who ruled out a HIMARS strike on Olenivka, but they were unable to determine with certainty what caused the deaths and injuries of so many detainees. According to the study, “experts say most signs point to an intense fire, and according to several witnesses there was no sound of an incoming rocket.”

In agreement, the UN stated that “the information available and our analysis enable the Office to conclude that [the strike] was not caused by a HIMARS rocket.”

“The Russian Federation neither granted general requests by the UN Human Rights Office to access areas of Ukraine that are temporarily under the military control of the Russian Federation, nor provided satisfactory guarantees about secure access for the United Nations to visit the specific site.”

The UN concurred, saying, “The information available and our analysis enable the Office to conclude that [the strike] was not caused by a HIMARS rocket.”

“Neither did the Russian Federation provide satisfactory assurances about secure access for the United Nations to visit the specific site, nor did it grant general requests by the UN Human Rights Office to access areas of Ukraine that are temporarily under the Russian Federation’s military control.”

According to the OHCHR, “extensive interviews with survivors of the incident in Olenivka were conducted, and careful analysis of supplementary information was undertaken…Although the exact details of the occurrence on the night of July 28–29, 2022, are still unknown, the Office may determine from the facts at hand and our analysis that a HIMARS rocket was not to blame.

According to the facts at hand, the OHCHR continued, “it is not currently possible to establish either the specific source of the explosion or the precise direction from which a weapon may have been fired.”

Inmates who survived and their families “deserve the truth to be known, and for those responsible for breaches of international law to be held accountable,” said Volker Türk, the UN human rights chief, on Tuesday.

“Our office has met with the victims’ relatives and listened to their cries for justice and the truth; in fact, they have a right to truth, justice, and restitution. We must do every effort to see that justice is served for all those who have been harmed by this catastrophe.
