A sexual predator is forbidden from approaching any lady in public that he does not know.
A 13-year-old girl was beaten by Abdulrizak Ali Hersi in London as she boarded the tube with her family.
plain-colored attire When the 32-year-old boarded a train at Green Park Underground station and stood near the doors, British Transport Police officers witnessed the attack come to an end.
Hersi sexually attacked the schoolgirl as soon as the family boarded the train at the following stop on the Piccadilly Line.
Officers grabbed the predator, dragging him off the carriage at Leicester Square and arresting him.
Inner London Crown Court heard the victim was not aware of what had happened until police had intervened.
Hersi, of Limehouse, was jailed for 18 months after being found guilty of sexual assault after the incident on October 11 last year.

A judge also handed the defendant him a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order – banning him from ‘intentionally standing behind or next to any female he does not know in a public place’.
Hersi was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £187.
BTP inspector Sharon Turner said: ‘Our plain clothes teams are specially trained in identifying dangerous sexual offenders like Hersi, who will do their level best to commit such crimes without notice.
‘In this case, the victim and her family did not even realise what was happening until our officers quickly intervened.
‘Passengers should feel reassured to know we have plain clothes patrols like this taking place across the Underground day and night to keep everyone safe.’
G7 leaders accused China of using “economic coercion” while issuing a subtly worded warning to the country.
On Saturday, the group demanded that China, a rising powerhouse, “play by international rules” and accused Beijing of using trade to intimidate other countries.
This week, a three-day summit with the heads of state of the US, Japan, Germany, France, Britain, Italy, and Canada took place in Hiroshima, Japan.
The countries discussed the needto ‘reduce excessive dependences (on China) in their critical supply chains’.
However, their joint statement went on to stress that the G7’s policies are ‘not designed to harm China nor do we seek to thwart China’s economic progress and development’.
Leaders added that they still wanted to work on ‘constructive and stable’ relations.
China condemned the G7 for its comments, saying it felt ‘strong dissatisfaction’ with the allegations made against it.
The foreign ministry said: ‘The G7 insisted on manipulating China-related issues, smearing and attacking China.’

The war in Ukraine took centre stage this year, with president Volodymyr Zelensky arriving on a French government plane, after a stopover in Saudi Arabia.
It was unclear whether the Ukrainian president was attending the summit until the last minute.
He rushed to join in meetings which had already started and met his fellow world leaders, including prime minister Rishi Sunak who greeted him with: ‘You made it!’
On Friday, the G7 promised to ‘starve’ Russia of resources needed for its war in Ukraine but the details of how they plan to do this beyond existing sanctions are unclear.

US President Joe Biden told allies he will allow Ukrainian pilots to be trained on American-made F-16 fighter jets.
This prompted Russian deputy foreign minister Alexander Grushko to issue a warning to the west.
He told the Russian state news agency Tass: ‘We can see that Western countries continue to stick to an escalation scenario, which carries enormous risks for them.
‘In any case, we will take it into account when making plans. We have all the necessary means to achieve our goals.’
A Sociologist at the University of Ghana, Dr Mark Kwaku Mensah Obeng, has called on the government to support the Domestic Violence Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service with the needed resources and infrastructure to beef up their workout put.
His position comes on the back of reported cases of jilted murder in the last month and the DOVVSU’s seeming inability to clamp them down.
In an interview with GhanaWeb, the Sociologist mentioned that often times the facilities of the DOVVSU are not welcoming to abuse victims.
“I think our DOVVSU really needs support. In fact, in some of the places, when you go there, even the desk that is supposed to be given to the woman who has been traumatized is not welcoming,” he said.
Dr Mensah Obeng stressed that abuse victims must be met with welcoming environments.
“Somebody is running from murder, somebody has been threatened, the first thing you want to assure that person is that, there is a shelter for somebody. I don’t mean the physical shelter but at least the officer should be welcoming, he added.
Although the Ghana Police Service organises trainings for their personnel, Dr Mensah Obeng, said sometimes the personnel do not put the training to use.
“And I know the police service has been running a series of trainings for their officers but sometimes you see the difference between the training and what actually happens on the ground. I think we need to double our game,” he stated.
After meeting Volodymyr Zelensky at the G7 conference in Hiroshima, Rishi Sunak promised that Britain would “never waver” in its support for Ukraine.
When the president of Ukraine arrived in Japan on Saturday for talks with the heads of the most potent democracies in the world, he was greeted like a hero.
He arrived at the conference just hours after Joe Biden authorised the delivery of US-made F-16 fighter fighters to Kyiv, providing a crucial assist to the nation’s efforts to fend off Russia’s incursion.
In a statement, Mr Sunak said he is ‘delighted that the G7 has agreed on the importance of giving President Zelensky the advanced military equipment needed to win this war and prosper as a free and democratic nation’.
He said: ‘The G7 was once the G8 – Russia was expelled in 2014 for its illegal annexation of Crimea and flagrant abuse of human rights and the rule of law.
‘Nine years on, it sends an incredibly powerful message to have my friend and Ukraine’s President Zelensky with us in Hiroshima today.
‘It tells the world that the G7 stands united with the people of Ukraine, in the face of a terrible onslaught. And it demonstrates that brute force and oppression will not triumph over freedom and sovereignty.
‘From providing Challenger tanks to long-range missiles and pilot training, the UK’s support for Ukraine’s defence will never waver.’
The pair shared a warm informal meeting on Saturday after Mr Zelensky landed in Japan.
‘Good to see you,’ the Prime Minister said, slapping him on the back after they greeted each other with an embrace. ‘You made it.’
Asked by reporters if it was a good day for Ukraine, Mr Zelensky smiled, nodded and said ‘thank you so much’.
Mr Zelensky later tweeted: ‘Peace will become closer today.’
G7 leaders vowed to support Ukraine for ‘as long as it takes’ and to increase the costs to Russia and those who support its war.
They also used their joint statement to be critical of China, saying they remain ‘seriously concerned’ about the aggression shown towards Taiwan.
Giving an account of Mr Sunak’s meeting with the Ukrainian leader, No 10 said: ‘The Prime Minister updated President Zelensky on the very positive progress at the G7 so far, including new sanctions against Russia and the provision of fighter jets.
‘The leaders looked forward to progressing talks with G7 countries and other partners on support for Ukraine and action against Russia’s destabilising and illegal behaviour.’
Moscow warned that the ‘escalation’ carries ‘enormous risks’ for the countries involved.
Russian deputy foreign minister Alexander Grushko told the Tass news agency: ‘We can see that Western countries continue to stick to an escalation scenario, which carries enormous risks for them.
‘In any case, we will take it into account when making plans.
‘We have all the necessary means to achieve our goals.’
Mr Biden informed his allies at the conference in Hiroshima that he will give legal authorisation to allow the American-made planes to be donated to Kyiv.
The US president, who is attending the G7 with other members France, Italy, Germany, Japan and Canada, as well as the EU, also announced training for Ukrainian pilots.
The Prime Minister welcomed the decision, having pressed allies to provide the Ukrainian president with the jets he has been calling for.
Mr Sunak tweeted: ‘Ukraine, we’re not going anywhere.’
Following the discovery of what is thought to be a weapons factory within an industrial unit by National Crime Agency detectives, a man has appeared in court.
Indicted for violations of the Firearms Act, 47-year-old Evan Girdlestone of Colliers Wood, south London, was remanded in custody by magistrates in Croydon.
Officers discovered what they thought to be a working modified weapon and magazines packed with 9mm ammo from a car when they apprehended him on Thursday morning.
Girdlestone has been charged with possession of a firearm, namely a handgun contrary to Section 5 of the Firearms Act 1968 and possession of ammunition contrary to Section 1 of the Act.
The defendant, wearing a Napapijri fleece, appeared in the dock for five minutes to confirm his name, date-of-birth and address.
No pleas were entered and he was remanded in custody to appear at Croydon Crown Court on June 16.

Girdlestone was born in South Africa, but has lived in the UK for 27 years, the court was told.
The court appearance came after NCA officers searched an industrial unit in the Lombard Road area of Merton, and found an array of tools and machinery, including parts used in the manufacture of weapons and ammunition, blank firers, more than a hundred rounds of live ammunition, around a thousand rounds of blank-firing ammunition, and three potentially functioning converted weapons.
They also found several 3D printing machines suspected of being used to print component parts for converted weapons.
The seized weapons are being assessed and analysed by forensic experts.
The National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye popularly known as Nana B, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the approach taken by Joseph Yammin, the National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Nana B claims that Joseph Yammin has neglected his responsibilities as an organizer by focusing too heavily on social media activities rather than engaging on the ground.
Speaking in an interview with Okay FM on May 19, 2023, Nana B highlighted Yammin’s lack of knowledge about Kumawu’s by-election.
He questioned Yammin’s familiarity with the local polling stations, electoral areas, and even the chiefs in Kumawu. He further challenged Yammin to name ten towns in Kumawu, suggesting a lack of deep understanding of the constituency’s intricacies.
“Joseph Yammin is not really understanding his job.
“For Joseph Yammin, he doesn’t even know all the electoral areas in Kumawu, ask him how many polling stations are in Kumawu and electoral areas in Kumawu, he doesn’t know. Ask him if he knows any chief in Kumawu. Ask him, what is the name of Sekyeremanhene…ask him to mention ten towns in Kumawu, he doesn’t know, so for him ignore him,” he said.
The NPP national organizer also criticized Yammin for making serious allegations on social media without proper evidence. Nana B referred to a recent incident where Yammin claimed to have seen a vehicle carrying ammunition heading towards Kumawu ahead of the by-election.
According to him, he considers the allegation a cause for concern, as it could potentially spread fear and panic among the public, therefore, Yammin should be invited by the police for questioning to clarify the basis of his claim.
“I saw him posting on social media that he has seen a car with ammunition heading toward Kumawu, I think this is a serious allegation and he must be invited by the police for questioning because he is causing fear and panic. Are you a serious organizer? Which organizer organizes or mobilizes on social media; he needs to be serious….my brother Yammin should be serious about the work. You are the national organizer of the biggest opposition party; you don’t just come on social media to say anything at all,” he added.
Nana B’s remarks reflect the ongoing rivalry between the NPP and the NDC, the two major political parties in Ghana. Both parties are gearing up for a by-election on May 23, 2023, in Kumawu following the demise of the sitting MP, Philip Atta Basoah.
In Devon, a cliff fall has claimed the life of an 18-year-old woman.
Following rumours that the adolescent had fallen and sadly died, police hurried to the beach.
The event took place on Friday afternoon in south Devon, close to Hope Cove.
According to the police, her family was informed of the tragedy.
Emergency services said that paramedics from South Western Ambulance Service, Devon and Cornwall Police, Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bigbury and Kingsbridge, an Independent Rescue Boat from Hope Cove, and the Coastguard helicopter from Newquay were all dispatched to the area.
Today, Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed that an 18-year-old girl had died. A force spokesperson said: ‘Police were informed by the Coastguard at around 4.40pm yesterday [19 May] that the body of a woman had been recovered from the beach near Hope Cove.
‘An 18-year-old woman was reported to have fallen from the cliff and was confirmed deceased at the scene.
‘Her next of kin have been informed. The death is not being treated as suspicious and enquiries are continuing.’
A two-year-old girl who was hit by a car outside a house in Yorkshire has passed away in the hospital.
At 10:13 a.m. on Saturday, Dewsbury’s Millwater Avenue received a call from the police reporting the collision.
The toddler was taken to the hospital in a severe condition but, despite the efforts of the doctors, she died shortly after being there.
West Yorkshire Police have not yet provided any additional information regarding the incident’s circumstances.
A spokesperson said: ‘Police were contacted by the ambulance service who were attending an incident in Millwater Avenue, in Dewsbury, where a child had been involved in a collision with a car outside an address.
‘The child, a two-year-old girl, was taken to hospital in a critical condition and was pronounced dead a short time later. A scene is in place in Millwater Avenue.
‘The incident is being treated as a sudden unexpected death in childhood and we ask that people consider the family and respect their privacy at what is clearly a very difficult time for them.’
A British boy who became ill while on vacation with his parents passed away in a hospital in the Algarve.
The 11-month-old infant passed away while waiting to be transferred from an intensive care unit at Portimao Hospital to Faro Hospital, which was 50 minutes distant by automobile.
After his condition deteriorated, the child was declared dead late on Friday.
After it was revealed that a medically equipped helicopter had to be dispatched in order to transport the child to Faro because there was a shortage of qualified personnel, calls for an investigation into the tragedy increased in Portugal.
The unnamed child, thought to have fallen ill with bronchitis before medics discovered he had septicaemia, was kept at Portimao Hospital after his condition worsened and died later the same day.
Initial reports which were later refuted by health chiefs claimed the child lost his fight for life after waiting to be transferred for six hours due to a lack of specialist staff.
Respected Portuguese daily Correio da Manha said medics on the Algarve had initially sought a transfer to Santa Cruz Hospital in Lisbon, a leading cardiac hospital, before the decision to use an air ambulance to take the baby to Faro was made.
The youngster has been described locally only as a ‘foreign child’, and well-placed sources confirmed today he was British and was on holiday with his family.
A spokesman for Portugal’s National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM), a Ministry of Health agency responsible among other things for providing on-the-scene pre-hospital emergency care and assisting transport of victim to appropriate hospitals, said it had a received a request from Portimao Hospital to transport an 11-month-old baby to an intensive care paediatric unit at 2.18pm local time on Friday.
It insisted the child was being ‘properly accompanied’ by the hospital’s paediatric teams at the time.
In a statement it added: ‘Because Faro Hospital found itself without paediatrics and with the Paediatric Inter-Hospital Transport Ambulance (TIP) inoperative due to the lack of a hospital doctor and TIP Lisbon engaged on another medical emergency job, INEM initiated the necessary procedures with a view to activating the Algarve helicopter.
‘This was done at just after 3pm the same day.’
The INEM spokesman said the baby suffered a ‘worsening of its clinical condition which prevented the transfer and led to the medical teams returning to Portimao Hospital around 5.45pm after initiating procedures for the helicopter journey.’
The agency added in its statement: “INEM deeply regrets the outcome of this situation and we send our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the baby’s family.’
A union chief had demanded an investigation into the British child’s hospital death before INEM reacted.
Rui Lazaro, head of the Portuguese union of pre-hospital emergency technicians, said other solutions could have been activated such as the transfer of a specialist medical team to Portimao Hospital by helicopter.
He insisted: ‘They could have come from Lisbon, or Coimbra or even from Porto.
‘Someone from INEM or from the guidance centre for emergency patients must have made that decision not to activate that option.
‘We don’t know why it occurred and this needs to be properly investigated.
‘The appropriate means were not made available in a timely manner.’
The child’s parents have been offered expert care from psychologists trained in helping people deal with bereavement.
Local reports said the youngster went into cardiac arrest as he was being taken to the air ambulance, with leading Portuguese daily Correio da Manha saying the child had suffered cardiac tamponade or pressure on the heart when blood or fluid builds up in the space between the heart muscle and the heart’s outer covering sac.
It can occur due to inflammation of the lining around the heart caused by bacterial infections.
Well-placed sources said the youngster had been put on antibiotics after being diagnosed with bronchitis and was getting better at his holiday accommodation with his family before taking a turn for the worse and being admitted to Portimao Hospital where doctors discovered he had septicaemia.
The source said: ‘The main problem was that the ambulance that would normally have taken the child to Faro Hospital was inoperative because there was no paediatric emergency physician available.

While family, friends and sympathizers were busily mourning their loss at the late MP for Kumawu, Philip Basoah’s funeral, some pick pockets were also on the grounds stealing from their unsuspecting victims.
An over forty-year-old man whose name is yet to be known was arrested during the funeral of the late Philip Basoah, MP for Kumawu constituency in the Ashanti region.
The man who was arrested by the police was alleged to have stolen about three phones from female mourners at the funeral.
According to the source, the unsuspecting man who appeared so gentle was neatly dressed in a funeral outfit as though he was one of the sympathisers.
Further investigation revealed that the pick-pocket was arrested by police officers after some people found out what he was about.
“I was here when I realized that my phone had been stolen. I complained about the incident to the police. I suspected the man and therefore told the police. To our surprise, the man dropped his bag after the police had called him. We looked inside the bag to find out that he had hidden about three phones inside the bag including mine. My phone is an itel. The thief was subsequently arrested by the police,” one victim said.
Meanwhile, an eyewitness who spoke to GhanaWeb revealed that the incident happened after they had joined a queue to pay last respects to the deceased MP.
“When we were in the queue, my other sister complained that someone had picked a phone from her pocket. I, therefore, threatened to curse the person with ‘antoa nyamaa’ until the police intervenes to get the thief arrested,” she said.
To ensure the success of local businesses, Ghana Manufacturing Awards event director Richard Abbey Jr. has urged the government to support them.
He further said the government needs to take a second look at the taxes on the importation of goods.
In his view, most manufacturing companies in Ghana import equipment and raw materials to aid their work, therefore, the payment of high import taxes may have a toll on their businesses.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb Business on the sidelines of the 7th Ghana Manufacturing Awards held in Accra on Saturday, May 20, 2023, Richard Abbey Jnr said, “Government should find its way in supporting businesses in this country in that, the 1D1F is a good project but we would be happy for government to look at the importation taxes.”
He added that, “These our manufacturing companies bring in a lot of things; equipment, raw materials, etc. how do we strategise to the extent that we can also support them for them to bring in these things?”
It would be recalled that in April this year, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo assented three new revenue bills; Income Tax Amendment Bill, Excise Duty Amendment Bill, and Growth and Sustainability Amendment Bill into law.
The Growth and Sustainability Levy is expected to raise approximately GH¢2.216 billion in 2023, while the Income Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2022 which amends the Income Tax Act, 2015 (Act 896) is expected to yield revenues of approximately GH¢1.29 billion.
The Excise Duty (Amendment) Bill, 2022 amends the Excise Duty Act, 2014 (Act 878) and is expected to yield approximately GH¢455 million.
Reacting to this, members of the business community including the Ghana Union of Traders Association have said the introduction of these taxes will cause more harm than good.
They stated that the public would also bear the consequences as the prices of goods and services would witness an astronomical increment.
As part of an IMF-sponsored economic reform program, the second-largest cocoa producer will have to cut its losses from the industry regulator.
Ghana received approval this week for a three-year, $3 billion IMF bailout, with the first disbursement of about $600 million expected this week.
Further payments will require the Ghanaian government to meet specific objectives aimed at restoring economic stability and reducing the country’s debt burden ahead of periodical IMF reviews.
Recently, some Ghanaian musician’s lookalikes have been parading themselves on social media.
The likes of Medikal, Kuami Eugene,King Promise, and many others have come out publicly to condemn the actions of these ‘lookalikes’, who pose a threat to their brand.
However, commenting on the issue for the first time, King Promise has established that he has no issue with them.
During an interview on 3FM’s Drivetime show hosted by Giovani Caleb and AJ Sarpong, the ‘Terminator’ crooner revealed that he is not in anyway upset about the situation.\
According to him, his lookalikes are just showing him love in a different way adding that people should allow them to go about their activities.
When Giovani asked King Promise whether a time will come for him to feel offended by the actions of these so-called lookalikes, the ‘Commando’ hitmaker said if that time should ever arise, the necessary actions will be taken. Still, until then, these guys should be allowed to have fun.
A temporary ceasefire in Sudan has been agreed as fighting between two warring factions entered its sixth week.
Previous truce attempts between Sudan’s regular army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have tended to collapse within minutes of beginning.
But the new deal will be enforced by a “ceasefire monitoring mechanism,” according to a US-Saudi statement.
As part of the seven-day humanitarian ceasefire, Sudanese officials have agreed to restore essential services.
Fighting between the two sides has plunged the country into chaos since it began last month, with more than a million people thought to have been displaced.
Qatar said on Saturday that its embassy in the capital Khartoum had been ransacked by “irregular armed forces”, and it called for the perpetrators to be held accountable for the “heinous act”.
Other embassies, including Jordan’s, have also been previously ransacked, along with aid warehouses of the UN.
Stocks of food, money and essentials have fast declined and aid groups repeatedly complained of being unable to provide sufficient assistance in Khartoum, where much of the violence has taken place.
Both the regular army and the RSF have been urged to allow the distribution of humanitarian aid, restore essential services and withdraw forces from hospitals.
The United States and Saudi Arabia, who sponsored the peace talks in Jeddah, said the ceasefire would come into effect on Monday evening.
In a statement , the US State Department acknowledged previous failed attempts at brokering peace in Sudan, but said there was a key difference this time.
“Unlike previous ceasefires, the agreement reached in Jeddah was signed by the parties and will be supported by a US-Saudi and international-supported ceasefire monitoring mechanism,” it said, without giving more detail.
Taking to Twitter, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken added: “It is past time to silence the guns and allow unhindered humanitarian access.
“I implore both sides to uphold this agreement – the eyes of the world are watching.”
The war broke out in Khartoum on 15 April following days of tension as members of the RSF were redeployed around the country in a move that the army saw as a threat.
There was also a power struggle between Sudan’s regular army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his former deputy Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who leads the RSF.
Hundreds of people have been killed in the fighting and the UN has warned of a worsening situation in Africa’s third-largest country, where a huge number of people already relied on aid before the conflict.
Davido, the Nigerian Afrobeats singer, has explained how the success of his fourth studio album, “Timeless,” helped him recover from the death of his three-year-old son.
The artist revealed this in a recent interview with Hot 107.9 FM in Atlanta, Georgia.
Davido said that it took him three months to get the energy to start recording songs for his album.
He emphasized that the heartbreaking incident of his son’s passing at his residence in Banana Island, Lagos State, in October 2022 took a toll on him.
In his words;
“It is a special album to me, you know what I’m saying. Of course, after taking a long break, just coming back to having people really m*ss with the music. You know, sometimes you do an album, you probably get like four or three on there that are like big singles…”
When asked how he is feeling now, he said;
“It hasn’t been easy. I just thank God for being able to do my job, to sit here talk to you. There was a point that I felt I wouldn’t be able to do my job. So, I’m just happy I’m able to be creative again.
“The success of the album has been part of my healing process. After like three months [after Ifeanyi’s demise] I was able to work again. Shootouts to all the producers that came through.”
Vladimir Putin has praised Russian troops and the paramilitary Wagner Group for capturing the city of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine.
The longest and bloodiest fight of the 15-month conflict would culminate with the capture of the largely flattened city, and Russia has often declared victory there in error in recent months.
Insisting that battle is still going on for control of the Donetsk Oblast’s transport and logistical hub, Ukrainian officials quickly refuted these assertions.
Reports that Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed earlier today that his army has lost control were also misinterpreted.

Speaking alongside US president Joe Biden at the G7 summit in Hiroshima, the Ukrainian president was asked if Bakhmut is still in Ukraine’s hands.
He then replied ‘I think no’ in answer to a journalist, who stated ‘the Russians say they have taken Bakhmut’.
‘You have to understand that there is nothing,’ the leader added. ‘They [Russians] destroyed everything.
‘For today, Bakhmut is only in our hearts. There is nothing in this place.’
In a Facebook post, his spokesperson Sergii Nykyforov clarified the response: ‘As for the answers of the president of Ukraine to the questions about Bakhmut.
‘Reporter’s question: “Russians said they have taken Bakhmut.” President’s reply: “I think no.” Thus the president denied taking Bakhmut.”
Russia’s defence ministry had said early on Sunday that Wagner forces, with the support of Russian troops, had captured the city.
It came about eight hours after a similar claim by leader Yevgeny Prigozhin, who shared a video on his Telegram channel in which his fighters waved Russian flags against a backdrop of ruins.
‘Today on May 20, around midday, Bakhmut was taken in its entirety,’ he said in the video, adding that Wagner fighters would search the city before handing it over to the Russian army.
‘By May 25 we will completely examine [Bakhmut], create the necessary lines of defence and hand it to the military.’
The claims come after a week in which Ukrainian forces have made their most rapid gains for six months on the northern and southern flanks ahead of a long-anticipated counteroffensive.
Whether they have left the city or not, troops have been slowly pulling back inside it, to clusters of buildings on the western edge.
Meanwhile, to the north and south, they have seized large areas from the Russian army.
Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies (JGC), has assured Ghanaians that the Jospong Group Rice Project will minimize if not completely ban the importation of rice into the country.
“Where we (JGC) see a problem we confront it and solve it and this project that we have begun, walahi talahi, the rice importation must end,” he vowed.
Dr. Agyepong was speaking at a two-day Ghana Food Security Conference under the theme “Enhancing Food Security: The role of Ghanaian Scientists,” in Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region.
He encouraged the stakeholders, particularly rice farmers and scientists not to despair because there are no adequate policies to support the initiative but rather be hopeful that when “fruits begin to yield”, policies will change to favour them.
“Whether policy is supporting or not, never be discouraged, let us do our part and when we begin to yield fruits, policies will change to favour us,” he assured.
Quoting former president Barack Obama, he further challenged the government to choose hope over the fear that if it bans the importation of rice, Ghanaians will go hungry, but rather be hopeful that the Ghanaian farmer will be challenged and empowered to produce quality rice for the country.
The CEO of the Asian African Consortium (AAC), Mrs. Adelaide Siaw Agyepong who is leading the Jospong Group Rice Project noted that science, research and development have traditionally been the drivers of innovation and productivity and are central to everything done in the world.
According to her, if immediate measures to enhance food production are not undertaken, the cost of Africa’s yearly food import might rise from $50 billion to US$110 billion by 2030.
“When there is a food crisis, the poor suffer the most since they are unable to obtain food due to price hikes” she noted.
She said this motivated the Jospong Group of Companies and the AAC in partnership with the CSIR to “perceive” the need to bridge Ghana’s food security gaps.
On his part, the Director General of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Prof. Paul Bosu, was hopeful that the two-day conference will chart a course towards realizing Ghana’s goal of achieving food security and becoming self-sufficient in rice production.
“We in Ghana have all that we need to become food secured,” he stressed.
He reiterated that the CSIR and the AAC recently signed an MoU to work together towards the vision of helping Ghana to become food secured.
“We need to support government to achieve its objective of feeding the Ghanaian population and earning more foreign exchange,” he charged the stakeholders.
The General Secretary of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Labi, who spoke on behalf of the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost noted that, this initiative has come at the right time to help Ghana achieve the Sustainable Development Goal two: “End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture”.
He noted that the conference theme, “Enhancing Food Security: The Role of Ghanaian Scientists” is crucial in Ghana’s development discourse, especially at a time when the economy is distressed.
“While we await IMF assistance, it is critical that steps be taken locally to strengthen our country’s economic issues,” he noted.
The Church commended the CSIR, whose key mandate is to drive national development and global competitiveness in industry through scientific and technological research, for partnering with Jospong Group.
He noted that the conference is rightly in sync with the 5-year vision of the Church of Pentecost, which has the theme “Possessing the Nations”.
“The overarching goal is to equip members who will possess their nations by transforming every world-view, thought, and behaviour with the values, principles, and lifestyles of the Kingdom of God, thereby turning many to Christ’” he mentioned.
The conference brought together many partners from universities, experienced civil servants from all persuasions and agencies and other partners from Nigeria and Thailand.
The tension is getting high in Kumawu as the by-election draws nigh.
Bigwigs of the two major political parties; the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress have visited the Kumawu constituency to interact with residents and also convince them to vote for their parties.
A new video that has surfaced on the internet captures the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, otherwise known as Chairman Wontumi kneeling and begging electorates to vote for their candidate – Ernest Yaw Anim in the upcoming by-election on May 23, 2023.
In a 30-second video, Wontumi is heard telling the people to vote for Ernest Yaw Anim to be the replacement of the deceased MP in parliament.

The NCA says it is working for the successful implementation of the aforementioned ongoing regulatory measures.
It assured the general public, particularly subscribers of Surfline of its sustained commitment to protect the interest of all users of telecommunications services as well as stakeholders within the Industry.
Bank of Ghana‘s (BoG) Summary of Economic and Financial Data for May 2023 shows the Ghana cedi lost 21.7% of its value against the US dollar as of May 2023.
This is coming despite a remarkable run by the local currency in the retail market with a year-to-date loss of about 8%, according to Bloomberg.
Bloomberg disclosed that the cedi has become the world’s best performer against the dollar over the past six months. It has advanced 33% since November 2022, the biggest gain among about 150 currencies, reversing some significant losses.
The depreciation of the cedi in January 2023 (20.6%), February 2023 (22.1%), March 2023 (22.1%) and April 2023 (21.7%) were not slightly different from that of May 2023.
The first two months of the year were not encouraging until the cedi stabilise in March 2023 against the dollar. It has since recorded some stability against the major foreign currencies.
For the pound and the euro, the local currency lost 24.6% and 23.4% in value respectively in May 2023.
Presently, the cedi is going for ¢11 against the American greenback on then retail market and ¢10.83 on the interbank market.
Cedi records relative stability since March 2023
Prior to Friday, May 19, 2023, the cedi recorded relative stability to the dollar since late March 2023.
Investors were cautiously optimistic that Ghana would get the IMF deal approval during the second quarter of 2023.
“Immediately on Friday [May 12, 2023], we saw that reflected in the Ghana cedi performance as the local currency gained 1.0% on Friday alone. The gains have continued into this week as the market expects the approval this week, roundly today, as communicated by government officials, Economist Courage Martey, told Joy Business.
“So, in sum, yes. The recent run appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi is due to the latest positive news effect from anticipated IMF programme approval”, he added.
The country has since secured an IMF Executive Board approval for a programme.
Russian officials have warned Western nations that giving Ukraine F-16 fighter jets will come with “colossal risks.”
On the second day of the G7 meeting, as world leaders are gathering in Japan, Alexander Grushko, the deputy foreign minister of Russia, delivered a warning to them.
We can see that Western nations continue to adhere to an escalation scenario, which entails great consequences for them, he told the Russian state news outlet Tass.
In any case, when making plans, we will consider it.
‘We have all the necessary means to achieve our goals.’
US President Joe Biden reportedly told G7 allies on Friday he will allow Ukrainian pilots to be trained on American-made F-16 fighter jets.
G7 leaders, from some of the world’s wealthiest nations, issued a joint statement yesterday saying: ‘We hereby pledge, from Hiroshima, the “symbol of peace”, that G7 members will mobilize all our policy instruments and, together with Ukraine, make every effort to bring a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine as soon as possible.’
Kyiv has since the start of the more than year-long war begged Western officials for the versatile supersonic fighter jet.
As Ukraine is pounded by Russian missiles and drones, Kyiv officials say the jet’s powerful radar can spot targets from far away to shoot them down, proving a vital line of defence.
But Biden resisted, with him and other Western politicians wary that doing so could provoke Moscow if used to strike deep within Russian territory.
While some NATO countries have said they’re happy to hand their F-16s over to Kyiv, this would need America’s approval as it manufactures them.
US National security adviser Jake Sullivan told reporters in Hiroshima this morning that the West has so far ‘focused on providing Ukraine with the systems weapon and training it needs to conduct offensive operations this spring and summer’.
This would be the latest in Washington’s ‘long-term commitment to Ukraine’s self-defence’.
‘As the training unfolds in the coming months, we will work with our allies to determine when planes will be delivered, who will be delivering them, and how many,’ Sullivan added.
He said that Biden will speak with G7 leaders about how best to supply Kyiv with the jets.
Though, delivering the aircraft could take months – likely too late for Ukraine to use in its looming counteroffensive.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky tweeted yesterday: ‘I welcome the historic decision of the United States and @POTUS to support an international fighter jet coalition.
‘This will greatly enhance our army in the sky.’
Zekensky landed in Japan earlier this morning ahead of meetings with G7 leaders tomorrow.
Greeted by Rishi Sunak, the British Prime Minister’s office said Sunak welcomes the ‘very positive progress’ on providing Ukraine with fighter jets.
‘The Prime Minister reiterated that the UK would continue to provide Ukraine with the military assistance needed to win the war and secure a just peace,’ Downing Street said.

A mate of the driver of a Kia Grandbird luxury bus that burnt to ashes Friday night when it collided head-on with a trailer carrying packages suspected to be alcoholic beverages near Bono Manso on the Techiman- Kintampo highway in the Bono East region, has been recounting events just before the ghastly clash.
The crash led to five deaths, all of who were burnt, while many others were rushed to the Holy Family Hospital at Techiman. According to the police, three persons aboard the bus died while two on the trailer also died.
The mate identified only as Kofi who spoke to Adom News’ Wiafe Akenten from his hospital bed, said he and his master were returning from Tamale with passengers and were heading to Accra.
He said there were about 41 persons aboard the bus upon take-off, while they picked another passenger at Kintampo, making the number of persons aboard 42.
He said while on their way, the driver of the bus and another driver in charge of an STC bus were overtaking each other intermittently.
He said at one moment, the speeding bus lost its breaks, and as they got too close to the STC bus, his master started honking for the STC driver to make way for them to avoid running into the bus, however the STC driver did not get the signal that the Grandbird was in distress and continued its journey.
In order to avoid hitting the STC bus, the mate said his master took the opposite lane, however, just then the trailer emerged from a curve ahead. He said his master then tried to maneuver between the two buses, however the driver’s attempts failed as the bus collided with the trailer and also grazed the STC bus on its back.
According to Kofi, the driver of the trailer and another person on the trailer did not survive, while his master had his legs trapped under his steering wheel, with some of the passengers who tried to extricate him suffering fire burns as the engulfing flames swept through the bus.
Kofi said they managed to set a lot of the passengers free by breaking the windows for their escape.
Andrews Oppong, the in-charge of the shift in place when Adom News’ Wiafe Akenten visited the hospital, said 18 persons were brought in Friday night, with 12 treated and discharged. Six others with more serious injuries were admitted, with the driver of the Grandbird sent to the theatre because he bore the most serious of injuries. The others, he said, had suffered burns as a result of the bus catching fire and were being taken care of at the emergency ward, describing their condition as stable.
The victims said they lost all personal belongings on them, their luggage and cash in the accident.
An elderly victim, Mr. Awudu Mumuni who said he had visited Tamale for a hospital appointment and was on his way back to Accra, said even his phone got lost in the accident, as a result of which he has not been able to reach any relative.
He has not memorised the contacts of anyone whose attention he would like to draw to his predicament.
China presents the greatest challenge of our time, according to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who was speaking with other world leaders at the G7.
Regarding international security and prosperity, Mr. Sunak stated unequivocally that China “poses the greatest challenge of our age.”
At a session during the G7 summit in Japan, Mr. Sunak was speaking.
At home and abroad, he claimed, China is becoming more autocratic.
The PM added: ‘China poses the biggest challenge of our age to global security and prosperity, they are increasingly authoritarian at home and assertive abroad.’
‘This is all about de-risking, not de-coupling.’
Mr Sunak spoke on immigration, saying it is a global issue but affirmed that the British Government will decide on who enters the UK.
‘We must stop the boats and stop the business model of the criminal gangs,’ he said.
He said: ‘We will stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes because their security is our security.
‘We have made a real breakthrough at this summit, thanks to President Biden’s support for an international coalition to provide F-16 jets.
‘Any peace settlement must be on Ukraine’s terms.’
When asked about Suella Braverman’s speeding fine Mr Sunak asked the reporter whether he had any questions about the summit before answering.
‘I don’t know the full details of what has happened nor have I spoken to the Home Secretary,’ he said.
‘I think you can see firsthand what I have been doing over the last day or so but I understand that she’s expressed regret for speeding, accepted the penalty and paid the fine.’
When asked about the phrase ‘de-risking not de-coupling’ from China he said they are very clear-eyed about the risk that China poses.
Mr Sunak said: ‘We will work together as the G7 and other countries make sure that we can de-risk ourselves and the vulnerability of supply chains that we have seen from China, take the steps necessary to protect ourselves against hostile investment and do so in a way that doesn’t damage each other.’
He added Mr Zelensky’s presence at the summit sends a ‘very powerful’ message to Russia.
Nollywood actress, Bella Ebinum, has claimed that men are inclined to cheat by nature.
She has for that matter, urged women not to be angry or jealous when their spouses cheat on them with other women.
In a viral video, which was first shared on her social media page, Bella said in the ‘olden days’, men still keep concubines despite having multiple wives.
The thespian said, “This video is for women. I don’t know why you get angry and jealous when your husband carry women. The truth is, it’s in their nature to cheat. Men must cheat because they have to release and if they depend on you, you can’t give them everything.
“That is why in those days, our fathers get married to three wives even with concubines because they have to release. A woman can stay more than one year without having sex but a man cannot stay more than one year without having sex. He will have prostate cancer.”
The candidature of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries has been confirmed by aides, groups and supporters except for the man himself.
The closest he came to a declaration was a social media post titled “IT IS POSSIBLE,” and to say generally that the NPP can retin power beyond the cyclical eight years – that is, break the eight.
Bawumia has, however, made a public pronouncement on Saturday, May 20, 2023, during a courtesy visit to the Chief of Sekyere in the Sekyere Kumawu District, Adom News reports.
A report filed by Ohemeng Tawiah read in part: “His comments followed a question by the Chief of Sekyere, Nana Osei Kwabena Onini Pobi II for the Vice President to clear rumours he (Vice President) could be in the race to lead the NPP.
“In response, Dr Bawumia said he had thought and prayed about it and concluded that indeed when nominations open, he will be in the race.”
Bawumia is believed to have wide support of Members of Parliament (MPs) and within the rank and file, he will come up against other heavyweights like former trade minister Alan Kyerematen and Assin Central lawmaker, Kennedy Agyapong.
Most of the candidates are in Kumawu to support the NPP’s candidate in Tuesday’s parliamentary by-election, Ernest Yaw Anim.
The National Civil Police (PNC) reported on Twitter that a crush at a football stadium in El Salvador’s capital on Saturday resulted in at least 12 fatalities and numerous injuries.
The PNC reported that “the first information points to a stampede of fans who tried to enter to watch the match between Alianza and FAS” at the Cuscatlán Stadium.
Francisco Alabi, the minister of health for El Salvador, announced on Twitter that emergency crews had been called in and that the injured were being taken to nearby hospitals.
Around 90 people, including minors, are being treated for injuries – most are in “stable” condition, he added.
President Nayib Bukele said an “exhaustive investigation” into the incident would be carried out by the national police and the attorney general’s office.
“Everyone will be investigated: teams, managers, stadium, ticket office, league, federation, etc. Whoever the culprits are, they will not go unpunished,” Bukele tweeted.
Video provided by the National Civil Police of El Salvador showed multiple ambulances parked outside the stadium and medics rushing to the scene.
Photos taken from inside the stadium also showed crowds of people, many wearing jersey colors of white and blue.
Alianza and FAS are two of the most popular soccer teams in the Central American country.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been criticized by Nigerians for praising his Nigerian Counterpart, Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, May 19, 2023.
The Ghanaian President while delivering a speech as the guest of honour to launch two biographies of Buhari noted that Africa and the world at large will miss his leadership.
He further said posterity will be kind to Muhammadu Buhari.
“As leaders, we all have our high and low moments, but I have no doubt that posterity will be kind to Muhammadu Buhari,” President Akufo-Addo said.
“President Buhari, we will miss you. West Africa, Africa, and indeed, the world will miss your leadership. The leadership of a military ruler turned consummate democrat who was extremely solicitous of Nigeria’s and Africa’s interests and who sought principles in all decisions which he took,” he added.
These words did not sit well with some Nigerians as they have taken to the micro-blogging site – Twitter – to pour scorn on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s comments.
While some stated categorically that they will not miss Buhari as he exits office as President of Nigeria, others, described Ghana’s President as a hypocrite.
A user by the name Ambassador of Hope said, “Thunda faya Nana. Is this how you led your country Ghana?”
“This Ghana man get something wey dey worry am! I thought he was good,” A tweep called I STAND FOR TRUTH wrote.
“Ghana can have him. We won’t miss him a second.”
Another tweep named Royalty Stevens said, “He must be a hypocrite. In Ghana there is stable power supply, in Nigeria Buhari and his men stole all the energy budgets. If life must be kind to Buhari then no one deserves an unkind life.
A Nigerian pastor has criticized Hilda Baci over the way she dresses.
Following Hilda’s historic achievement, social media was inundated with images of every description, some of which raised eyebrows.
Netizens thronged Hilda Baci’s Instagram to check out her posts, in the quest to discover more about the popular ‘record-breaking chef’.
A look at the 27-year-old actress cum chef’s Instagram page captures her in different kinds of outfits, most of which are hot and saucy.
Bikini fits, clothes defining her curves, and exposing parts of her banging body among others were spotted.
However, a pastor has indirectly reacted to this development.
In excerpts of his sermon which has gone viral, he noted that any individual who attains a higher dimension in life must dress accordingly.
He said, no matter the record an individual breaks, they must endeavor to dress in a way that projects their achievement and not their bodies.
“There is something that the book of proverbs called the attire of a harlot. It means if you see a demon girl, you can know from her dressing. It doesn’t matter the record she break. There is a way you can dress and we will suspect that it is not food this person is selling,” he said.
Although he did not mention Hilda’s name, many linked his sermon to Hilda Baci, particularly because he cited a record-breaking attempt in his speech.
As he recalls the day Cyclone Mocha‘s churning waves stole his wife and three daughters from him, Abdul Hussein wipes away tears.
All 11 members of his family were trapped inside their home in Sittwe, Myanmar’s Rakhine state, while violent winds grew stronger overhead.
I grabbed my little granddaughter very firmly when the water began to flood, Hussein recalled.
The family fled from the storm surge as the water rose, but they became separated in the commotion. However, his wife and three of his daughters, aged 20, 18, and 11, were washed away while the most of them managed to reach higher ground.
Hussein said inconsolably, “The water took them.
Hussein said he found their bodies when the cyclone subsided, and buried them.
Hussein and his surviving children and grandchildren are now without proper shelter or food. They have spent the past few nights in a shack cobbled together from what was left of their house. Everything around it was razed.
The children, he said, cry all night for their mother and sisters.
“I’m thinking only about them, I can’t even eat, I can’t even do anything,” Hussein said, adding that he has had to beg for food for the children.
Coastal areas in Rakhine bore the brunt of Cyclone Mocha’s winds, which tore over the state at over 200 kilometers per hour(195 mph)on Sunday, as one of the strongest storms to ever hit Myanmar.
Video and witness accounts show widespread devastation, with entire villages wiped out, shelters destroyed and piles of debris stretching over miles.
More than 400 people are estimated to have died, according to Myanmar’s shadow National Unity Government, but the true toll and extent of the destruction is hard to know due to flooding, blocked roads and downed communicationsthat have made access difficult.
A massive clean-up operation is underway for the millions of people affected by the storm, but clean water supplies and fuel are running low, and there is a critical need for shelters, food, medicine and healthcare services, according to the UN’s humanitarian office (OCHA).
Aid agencies say they have finally begun reaching affected communities, a week after the cyclone hit and following claims Myanmar’s military junta had been impeding access.
“Humanitarian assistance has begun reaching people affected by Cyclone Mocha in Rakhine State,” the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in a recent update.
“In recent days, initial humanitarian supplies have been transported via trucks… and humanitarians are exploring a range of approaches to try and move supplies to the impact zone from inside and outside the country, pending approval,” OCHA said.
Emergency food has been delivered to cyclone shelters and humanitarian workers are now trying to gauge the full impact of the cyclone in areas where they have access, it added.
“However, there is still a shortage of fuel – particularly for essential public services such as health facilities and water treatment. Other critical needs include shelter, food aid, medical supplies and healthcare services.”
While western Rakhine state took a direct hit from the cyclone, the UN estimates150,000 people in the country’s northwest were also heavily affected.
Houses, schools and hospitals were destroyed across Chin state, and about 85,000 people in Sagaing region were impacted – a situation exacerbated by ongoing conflict and the presence of troops hindering access to safe shelter, UN OCHA said.
Since the Myanmar military seized power in a coup in 2021, the country has been rocked by violence and instability. Fighting between junta troops and resistance groups under the People’s Defense Forces (PDF) unfolds almost daily across the country.
One resident from Magway, where around 11,000 households were affected by the storm, said her husband died in flooding caused by Cyclone Mocha.
She said they were moving their belongings away from the floodwaters in the forest after they had been forced to flee what she said was military fire.
“We were getting our belongings back from the jungle where we hide from the military soldiers. When that happens, there were gun shots around so we had to hide,” said the resident from Pauk township, who did not want to be named for security reasons.
Her husband had made her return home first with the cart while he went back to save their dog.
“He told me that he will to try to rescue the dog that was swept away by the current. Even though I told him not to go, he still left,” she said.
She said neighbors helped her search and they later found his body.
“With gunshots everywhere and with two old people and one child, I don’t know what to do,” she said.
Concerns are highfor thousands of vulnerable people because Rakhine is a largely impoverished and isolated state, which in recent years has been the site of widespread political violence.
Hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced in the state due to the protracted conflict, many of them members of the stateless Rohingya minority group, long persecuted in Myanmar.
Rohingya in Rakhine are mostly confined to camps akin to open air prisons, where authorities place strict controls on their movement, as well as access to schooling and health care.
“Rohingya and Rakhine communities alike are heavily impacted by conflict and successive humanitarian crises, relying almost entirely on humanitarian assistance for their survival,” said Paul Brockmann, Medecins Sans Frontieres’ operations manager for Myanmar.
“The impact of Cyclone Mocha has pushed people’s coping mechanisms in Rakhine state to the absolute brink.”
Brockmann said the scale of the medical humanitarian needs created by the storm are “enormous,” and many of their mobile clinics have been destroyed, cutting people off from essential health care.
“In the townships of Sittwe, Rathedaung, Buthidaung and Maungdaw, damage has been extensive. In Rathedaung we estimate that 90% of homes in each village have been destroyed. People are desperate to repair their homes as the monsoon season is fast-approaching,” he said.
Of particular concern has been Pauktaw township, south of the capital Sittwe, where people were without assistance for four days, according to Brockmann.
The area is “only accessible by boat” and is home to an estimated 26,500 internally displaced people who have been living in camps for 12 years.
However, OCHA said in its update that on May 18 the World Food Programme had received permission to distribute emergency food in eight townships, including Pauktaw.
Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Suame has lauded the generous spirit of fellow lawmaker Kennedy Ohene Agyapong citing his assistance to the Suame Constituency when they were in dire straits.
The Majority Leader narrated how two first schools built in the Suame area came to fruition because of Ken’s support by way of an interest-free loan that he advanced to the constituency.
Speaking at a flagbearership campaign stop of Ken at Suame over the weekend, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said: “Many testify to the goodness that Ken Agyapong has done and continues to do. We the people of Suame have been a beneficiary of Agyapong’s generosity.”
He narrated how Suame had been given school projects from the central government but monies had yet to be disbursed at a time times were hard financially. The two schools were Nuru Islamic Basic School and a six-classroom Suame Methodist block.
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu recalled selling his car to raise some money for the first project when funds dried up, he discussed the challenge with Ken, he told the gathering.
“He asked how much money was needed and I said two hundred million at the time but about 20,000 cedis today, the following morning Ken called me and advanced us the 200 million to put into the project.
“I gave 100 million to my chairman to start work, we were lucky to receive the funds for Nuru Islamic project so I asked my chairman to use that to continue the Methodist school project.
“I returned the first 100 million to Ken and later when other payments came in, I reimbursed him the other part. Without his intervention, we would have failed to complete the 6-classroom block,” he stressed.
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu is currently outgoing MP for Suame, being the longest serving lawmaker in the House, he is, however, supporting the presidential bid of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia in the New Patriotic Party race.
Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has refuted rumors that she and actor Yul Edochie’s first wife, May Edochie, are divorced and has maintained her support for her.
Rita, who is Yul Edochie’s aunt stated that May believes that the “spell” cast on her husband will expire someday and will speak up at the right time after she mourns her son, Kambili who died in April.
Posting a video of a man locked up inside a bottle the veteran actress wrote;
“No divorce between queen May Yul Edochie and her husband Yul Edochie.
My great people in the world, Queen May Yul Edochie believes that any spell cast on the husband of her youth will surely expire someday.
She will speak up after mourning her late son Kambili.
I still thank you all for the passionate love on our family and most especially the only verified and known wife of Yul Edochie, queen May Yul Edochie.
I am convinced that those calling for her divorce are either not married or are from a broken home.”
Beijing and Moscow reacted angrily to the Group of Seven (G7) meeting in Hiroshima, where leaders of major democracies committed to fresh sanctions against Russia and voiced growing concerns about China.
Sergey Lavrov, the foreign minister of Russia, criticised the G7 on Saturday for engaging in “own greatness” and pursuing an agenda designed to “deter” China and Russia.
The G7 needed to “reflect on its behaviour and change course,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated, accusing the group’s leaders of “hindering international peace.”
Beijing had made “serious démarches” to host country Japan and “other parties” over their decision to “smear and attack” China, it said.
Both Russia’s brutal assault on Ukraine and how to handle an increasingly assertive Beijing have loomed over the three-day gathering of the world’s leading industrialized democracies taking place in Japan – just across regional seas from both countries – where Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky made a surprise, in-person appearance.
G7 member countries made the group’s most detailed articulation of a shared position on China to date – stressing the need to cooperate with the world’s second-largest economy, but also to counter its “malign practices” and “coercion” in a landmark joint communique Saturday.
Leaders also pledged new steps to choke off Russia’s ability to finance and fuel its war, and vowed in a dedicated statement to ramp up coordination on their economic security – a thinly veiled warning from members against what they see as the weaponization of trade from China, and also Russia.
The G7 agreements follow a hardening of attitudes on China in some European capitals, despite differing views on how to handle relations with the key economic partner, deemed by the US as “the most serious long-term challenge to the international order.”
Beijing’s retort later Saturday urged the G7 “not to become an accomplice” in American “economic coercion.”
“The massive unilateral sanctions and acts of ‘decoupling’ and disrupting industrial and supply chains make the US the real coercer that politicizes and weaponizes economic and trade relations,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“The international community does not and will not accept the G7-dominated Western rules that seek to divide the world based on ideologies and values,” it continued.
G7 member countries are Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. The European Union also joins as non-country member.
A number of non-G7 leaders also attended the summit, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indonesian President Joko Widodo, and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
Albanese on Sunday said he has been concerned “for some time” over China’s activity, including its military activities in the South China Sea, and called for “transparency” by Beijing over the detention of Australian journalist Cheng Lei.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also on Sunday said China “presents the greatest risk to security and prosperity,” adding its behavior is “increasingly authoritarian at home and assertive abroad.”
China’s image in Europe has taken a severe hit over the past 15 months as leaders there have watched China’s Xi Jinping tighten ties with fellow authoritarian Russian President Vladimir Putin, even as Moscow’s invasion sparked a massive humanitarian crisis and Moscow’s leader was accused of war crimes by an international court.
Beijing’s increased military aggression toward Taiwan – the self-ruling democracy the Chinese Communist Party claims as its territory but has never ruled – and economic penalties against Lithuania following a disagreement over Taiwan have also played a role in shifting sentiment.
Concern about such incidents was reflected in the G7 statement on ensuring economic security and countering economic coercion, which did not explicitly mention China.
The G7 leaders’ ability to sign on a statement “so specifically directed at Beijing” would have been “hard to believe” two years ago, according to Josh Lipsky, senior director of the Washington-based think tank Atlantic Council’s GeoEconomics Center.
“The bottom line is that the G7 has shown it will increasingly focus on China and will try to maintain a coordinated policy approach. That’s a major development,” he said.
The G7 agreements land as China has been marshaling its diplomats in a concerted attempt to repair ties with Europe, largely by recasting itself as a potential agent of peace in the war in Ukraine, even if that claim has been met with widespread skepticism among Western nations.
Last week as European leaders headed to Asia, Chinese special envoy Li Hui began his own European tour billed by Beijing as a means to promote peace talks.
Li, who was dispatched after Xi late last month made his first call to Zelensky since the Russian invasion, visited Ukraine on Tuesday and Wednesday, where he fronted China’s vision of a “political settlement.”
That calls for a ceasefire but not for the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukrainian territory first – a scenario which critics say could serve to cement Russia’s illegal land grab in the country and runs counter to Ukraine’s own peace plan.
Zelensky’s travel to the G7 in Asia is also “a way of putting pressure on China,” according to Jean-Pierre Cabestan, an emeritus professor of political science at Hong Kong Baptist University.
The message to China is for it “to be more more outgoing in its support for a solution” that aligns with Kyiv’s interests in terms of its territorial integrity and Russian troops pulling out from Ukraine, he said.
When asked about the possibility of China playing a role in ending Russia’s war, a senior White House official on Saturday said the US hopes that Xi views this week’s summit as a signal of “resolve.”
“We would hope that what President Xi and the (People’s Republic of China) extract from what they’ve been seeing here … is that there’s an awful lot of resolve to continue to support Ukraine … and that China could have a meaningful role in helping end this war,” the official said.
Residents of Nkoranza in the Bono East Region were on Friday thrown into a state of shock when a native of the area Kofi Gyan died in a ghastly accident while on his way to the town from Accra to bury and perform the final funeral rites of his late mother.
Kofi Gyan MyNewsGh.com has gathered works at the Jubilee House and is also the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Initiators of Change Group of Companies and Initiators of Change Foundation.
The deceased set out from his base in Accra heading to the Bono region on a mission to bury his late mother Obaapanyin Adwoa Ampomaah as widely publicized on his Facebook wall a few hours before his untimely demise.
Reports said he was driving a Hyundai Sonata car with registration number GS 7776-19. He lost control and crashed into a river along the Accra to Kumasi highway at Enyiresi in the Eastern region.
Sources say Kofi Gyan lost control of the steering of his car in an attempt to avoid a head-on collision with a sprinter bus that made wrongful overtaking.
The Hyundai Sonata vehicle somersaulted and plunged into a nearby river killing him and two of his nieces on board the vehicle.
The sad incident has triggered calls for the Ghana Police Service to find and prosecute the Sprinter Bus driver whose action is believed to have caused the accident.
Family members, residents and social media users have expressed pain over the death of Mr Gyan who was expected to be joined by hundreds of well-wishers, friends and family to lay his mother to rest today Saturday, May 20, 2023.
Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, has refuted rumours that Bakhmut has been captured by Russia after months of bloody battle, according to the leader of the mercenary Wagner organisation.
In an attempt to declare a decisive victory in the city, Yevgeny Prigozhin said in a video released on Telegram on Saturday that “the operation to capture Bakhmut lasted 224 days.”
CNN was unable to independently confirm Prigozhin’s assertion, and the Ukrainian side first refuted it.
“The president has denied Bakhmut has been taken over,” Sergiy Nykyforov, spokesperson for Zelensky, told CNN later.
Zelensky met US President Joe Biden on Sunday on the sidelines of the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Japan, where he was asked by reporters whether Russia had taken the city.
“I think no,” he replied, but he conceded little remained.
“There is nothing. They destroyed everything. There are no buildings. It’s a pity, it’s a tragedy, but for today Bakhmut is only in our hearts,” Zelensky said.
Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar, in a Telegram post less than an hour after the Russian mercenary’s claim was published, admitted the situation in Bakhmut was “critical” but said Ukrainian troops were still “holding the defense” in a district on Bakhmut’s western-most edge.
“As of now, our defenders control certain industrial and infrastructure facilities in the area and the private sector,” she said.
In a later update the Armed Forces of Ukraine said: “The battles for the city of Bakhmut continue”.
Moscow has thrown huge amounts of manpower, weaponry and attention toward the city but for months failed to break down a stubborn Ukrainian resistance that had outlasted most expectations.
In his latest message Prigozhin said his forces will hand control of the city to the Russian military on Thursday.
“Until May 25, we will completely inspect it, create the necessary defense lines and hand it over to the military so that they can continue to work, and we ourselves will go to field camps,” he said.
Wagner received a message of praise from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Vladimir Putin congratulates the Wagner assault detachments, as well as all units of the Russian Armed Forces, which confirmed the presence and closure of the flanks, on the completion of the operation to liberate Artemovsk,” Russian state news agency TASS reported the Kremlin as saying, using the Soviet-Russian name for Bakhmut.
But French President Emmanuel Macron struck a more skeptical tone over the latest claims.
“I think it is up to the Ukrainian authorities to state the developments of their forces on the ground and so I will stay at this stage extremely cautious,” Macron said in the Japanese city of Hiroshima, on the sidelines of the G7 summit which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is also attending.
The operation “shows the difficulty the Russian army had in advancing” on the city, Macron added.
Bakhmut sits toward the northeast of the Donetsk region, about 13 miles from the Luhansk region, and has been a target for Russian forces for months. Since last summer the city has been a stone’s throw from the front lines.
Donbas – the vast, industrial expanse of land in Ukraine’s east, encompassing the Luhansk and Donetsk regions – has been the primary focus of Russia’s war effort since last spring, after its initial lunge toward Kyiv and central Ukraine failed.
The battle has been compared to the kind of fighting seen in World War One, with soldiers fighting in a hellish landscape of mud and trenches, trees and buildings mangled by artillery fire.
While Russian forces have continued their slow street-by-street advance in Bakhmut for many months, over the past two weeks Ukrainian forces have managed to re-capture small pockets of territory held by Russian troops to the northwest and southwest of the city.
If confirmed, Russia Bakhmut’s capture would mark the country’s first gain in months, but the city’s symbolism always outweighed its strategic importance.
Russian forces, bolstered by members of the Wagner mercenary group, have taken heavy losses trying to capture the city.
There are no official casualty figures, but earlier this year a NATO source told CNN they estimated that for every Ukrainian soldier killed defending Bakhmut, Russia lost five.
The battle has also highlighted an extraordinary rift among Russian forces, with Prigozhin at one point accusing a Russian brigade of abandoning its position in the city and railing several times at the Defense Ministry over a lack of ammunition.
Prigozhin, a former catering boss who has grown in prominence throughout the war, compared the battlefield to a “meat grinder.”
If Bakhmut’s fall is confirmed it would be an undoubted boost to Prigozhin, who recently announced his men would pull out entirely because dwindling ammunition supplies and mounting losses meant there was “nothing left to grind the meat with.”
Over the early part of 2023, the routes into Bakhmut had gradually come under the control of Russian forces and the battle for the city turned into an inch-by-inch grind, with Ukrainian forces repelling dozens of assaults each day.
Rather than drive directly toward the city center, Wagner troops sought to encircle the city in a wide arc from the north.
In January they claimed the nearby town of Soledar, and later took a string of villages and hamlets north of Bakhmut, making Ukraine’s defense of the city increasingly perilous.
But even as Moscow’s troops closed in and most residents fled through dangerous evacuation corridors, a small group of Ukrainian civilians remained in the ruined city. Before the war, around 70,000 people lived in Bakhmut, a city once famous for its sparkling wine.
As of March the population stood at less than 4,000 and most of the once thriving city has been reduced to ashes and rubble.
A Ghanaian national, Koffi Addo, has been fatally shot by a taxi client in the United States (US).
The deceased, a 57-year-old father left Ghana at the age of 37 according to his partner and has since arrival in the United States worked two jobs to cater for his nuclear family and extended family back home.
It was during one on his jobs as a taxi driver that he was shot and killed by a client in Somerset County, New Jersey.
Local police confirmed the incident had happened at around 10 p.m. Thursday, May 18, according to CBS News report.
Authorities said somebody got into a taxi at Rose Street and Sydney Place in Franklin Township, confronted the driver, then shot him and ran off, the report read in part.
Addo’s son and girlfriend said he immigrated to the U.S. from Ghana 20 years ago to make life better for his family.
“My father was a very hard-working man who always mind his own business, always had that thought about the American dream, work hard,” said Hubert Addo.
“Now these poor children have no father and I have no boyfriend anymore, and that was a great man that I wanted to settle my life down with for the rest of my life, and he’s gone,” said Kecia Banks.
Investigators said there may be more than one suspect. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
An economist at the University of Ghana, Dr Priscilla Twumasi Baffour has reacted to the IMF bailout granted Ghana.
She said the approval of Ghana’s $3 billion bailout request by the IMF came at the right time.
She said the timing of the inflow of the first tranche has been perfect.
“I believe that it is important and that the money has come at the right time. Because as of last week thereabout, we were aware that the reserve of the Central Bank was about three weeks of import cover.
“And that meant that if nothing came in immediately, possibly it could have come in with a lot of speculations and people rushing in – the whole uncertainty around that environment is something that is not needed in economic management,” she said on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday.
Dr Baffour explained that the country has a lot of goodwill globally, in that almost everybody wants to see “the shining star of Africa” perform excellently.
According to her, although data shows that the country turns out to perform well while under a fund-assisted programme, it begins to decline immediately after the programme expires.
She has, however, advised that the inflow of the first tranche of the $3 billion should not call for a massive celebration but government should “take advantage of the goodwill that we have and do the right things going forward.
Following the final approval of Ghana’s IMF programme, the first tranche of the $3 billion International Monetary Fund Extended Credit Facility (ECF) has been credited to the Bank of Ghana’s account.
The $600 million arrived in the late afternoon of Friday, May, 19.
In a tweet Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta stated that “The Bank of Ghana informs me that the first tranche of $600 million of Ghana’s low interest $3 billion ECF facility has been received.
“These funds will be used for BOP [Balance of Payment] and budget support and will also help stabilise the FX rate and trigger a cascading effect on inflation.”
Meanwhile, another tranche of funds is also expected to be disbursed by June 2023.
This will be followed by a visit by an IMF Mission to Ghana in June 2023 to review Ghana’s programme considerations.
Another review is expected just before the end of 2023, possibly in December 2023, before the final disbursement.
All the funds will be paid directly into the Bank of Ghana’s account to support Ghana’s balance of payments needs.
Abusive relationships can have various detrimental effects on the lives of individuals who find themselves in such situations. But how can one determine if his or her partner is abusive or not before going into a relationship.
Dr. Mark Kwaku Mensah Obeng, a Sociologist at the University of Ghana has revealed that there are some indicators that one should take note of when in a relationship.
Such indicators according to him, can help one determine whether or not their partners are abusive.
Controlling tendencies:
According to him, one of the signs people should be wary of is when they realize that their partners have become controlling.
Speaking on GhanaWeb’s Lowdown with Daniel Oduro, he said: “One of the signs that show that your partner may go the extreme is when they become controlling. They want to stalk your movement, and are interested in everything.”
Sudden intense change in character:
The sociologist was quick to caution that when people also realize that their partners suddenly have a change of character, they should be quick to opt out since it is very dangerous to stay in it.
“And especially if that’s not how the person really was, suddenly this whole intense behaviour emanating from that partner, it’s a red flag. It means that listen, the sign is there; if you are not careful, the worst may happen.”
Quick and sudden anger or rage :
Dr. Mensah added that another sign to watch out for your partner is when there’s a sudden rage or anger stemming from him or her when there’s a little misunderstanding.
He said, “There are people when there’s a little misunderstanding, then he’s all over the place. He’s threatening to beat you up, he’s threatening to kill you, sometimes over very simple things.”
Dr Mensah further advised that “Everybody shows anger but you see that this is not normal because the person goes to the extreme and haywire. In fact, some of them if you are fortunate and smart, they actually verbalise it that if this continues, I will kill you and kill myself too. Please these are not signs of love. This is a sign that when you are not careful, the worst may happen.”
“Under normal circumstances when somebody does this, over time, you expect that the person will show emotion, remorse, sympathy; but you realize that these traits are missing and he boasts about the fact that the last time he hit your head against the wall and is proud of that temperament. Please it is a sign that the person needs help,” he warned.
One person has died, and several others injured following renewed clashes at Yong Dakpemyili, a suburb of Tamale.
According to the Assembly member for the area, Abdul Wahab Dawuda, there was a reprisal attack on Saturday dawn after Thursday night’s shooting.
The incident on Saturday saw about three homes burnt. Some residents have fled the community as a result of the incident.
Police have moved in to calm the situation.
Police in the Northern Region are already investigating an earlier shooting in the area.
Sources in the community say there were gunshots in the town on Thursday, May 18, 2023.
They attributed the incident to a long-standing chieftaincy dispute between two brothers in the community.
The Assemblyman for the community, Abdul Wahab Dawuda confirmed the incident in a interview, disclosing that some residents sustained injuries.
“There were some gunshots as a result of two brothers feuding over a chieftaincy title. One side was to perform some particular traditional activity and some people sustained some injuries, but there is currently calm in the community, but we don’t know what may happen next.”
The swiftest and most sophisticated assault on Kyiv to date was Moscow’s enormous missile strike this past week. One of the famed Patriot missile defence systems used by the United States was allegedly hit, according to the Kremlin.
Although bold, the assertion turned out to have some support. According to US sources speaking to CNN, the sophisticated automated missile system had only sustained minor damage, presumably from falling debris, but it had not been destroyed and was still operational.
Though much of Kyiv’s nearly impenetrable missile shield was donated by NATO allies, speculation that day sparked worries that Russia would now find weak spots to exploit.
The following night, however, the skies over the capital were quiet. The all-too-familiar and unnerving sound of intercept rockets launching at the incoming deadly payloads didn’t happen. President Xi’s envoy, Li Hui, was spending the night there on a pre-planned, publicly announced visit. A missile that disturbed his peace or, worse, hit him could have changed the course of the war.
But Putin needed metaphorical blood on Volodymyr Zelensky’s nose while Ukrainian officials met Li. He wants to persuade the one world leader who can tip the scales in his stalled fight with Ukraine that he can win, and that his offensive is worthy of military support.
Nothing would have spoken louder of Moscow’s prestige than for its much vaunted – and expensive – hypersonic missile the Kinzhal to have won a duel with American Patriots.
Flying at up to 10 times the speed of sound, the six hypersonic Kinzhal missiles he fired that night cost a total of $60 million. The nine cruise missiles fired from his Black Sea fleet almost doubled the bill – and that’s before adding in the cost of the Iskander and S400 missiles also part of that night’s onslaught.
Xi isn’t the only leader with skin in the Ukraine war that Putin appears to be trying to sway his way right now.
The mercurial Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan took a phone call from Putin the same day Li left Kyiv. Within hours of the call, months of wrangling with Moscow over the “Black Sea Grain Deal” had been laid to rest.
The UN-brokered deal ensuring Ukraine can get its grain to world markets – critical to food security in east Africa and other impoverished regions – was first inked last July and is renewed every few months. Each time Moscow drags its feet, grain supplies stutter and almost stall before Putin signals they can continue.
The agreement has become another attempted lever of Russian influence over Turkey. Since the war began Putin has been trying to get Erdogan off the diplomatic fence, to quit supporting both Russia and Ukraine – to whom he sends vital battlefield drones.
Late last year, Putin offered Erdogan a potentially lucrative deal to host a new Russian gas export hub to Europe, now that the Nord Stream 2 pipeline running under the Baltic Sea to Germany has been destroyed.
Erdogan is a perma-hunter, always scavenging for ways to secure his place as president, and Turkey’s leverage with international partners. Geopolitics is his trade bazaar of choice, and Putin plays on it.
Letting the Black Sea Grain deal live for another 60 days was Putin’s gift for Erdogan. He could have made it harder, and potentially more politically perilous for the Turkish leader – who faces a run-off vote in his country’s presidential elections on May 28.
Putin likely calculated he had no need to commit to the deal until after the first round of the Turkish elections last week. Its outcome appears to signal Erdogan will likely win the run-off, making the grain deal a useful diplomatic investment for Putin.
There is of course no guarantee that Erdogan will win. There is no guarantee either that Xi cares about Putin’s missile salvo targeting Kyiv’s Patriot missile batteries either, but he will have been paying attention.
A gold standard in protection, Patriots are shipped all over the world to America’s allies; they are both a signal of political support and an act of real-time military defense – a powerful symbol of collective safety.
As Xi mulls his growing tensions with the US and a possible confrontation over the disputed island of Taiwan, the war in Ukraine is providing an object lesson on whose weapons are best, what works and where America’s weak spots are.
While Putin’s real war strategy – beyond trying to bludgeon 40 million Ukrainians into submission – is hard to fathom, he certainly sets high value in his relationship with Xi.
It was Xi he visited on the eve of his unlawful, unjustified invasion of Ukraine last year. It was Xi who came to Moscow and spoke of a peace deal that never acknowledged Russia’s trampling of Ukraine’s sovereignty and international law. Nor for that matter did Xi mention the moral depravity of Putin’s troops and the war crimes both they and the Kremlin have committed.
In short, from Putin’s perspective, Xi is the closest thing to a powerful ally that he has at the moment – but he would be a whole lot more useful if he believed Moscow could win the war. Smashing Kyiv’s Patriot on the eve of the Chinese envoy’s visit would have been a sign that Russia’s military muscle has not been entirely wasted on the battlefield and that Putin has a few punches left in him.
Kyiv meanwhile believes it also has good reason to court Li. Zelensky’s government thinks Xi does listen to its side of the war story, which it sees as fundamental to undermining Putin’s victimhood narrative.
At the United Nations in New York on the eve of the war’s first anniversary, Ukraine garnered 141 votes in favor of its motion demanding Russia leave its territory. The Chinese didn’t publicize Xi’s 12-point peace plan until the following day. Ukraine views that as respectful, indicating dialogue is worthwhile.
Despite Putin’s shots at taking out the Patriots, Li’s visit doesn’t appear to have changed that view. Both Beijing and Kyiv – huge differences notwithstanding – are still speaking about the “constructive” role China can play. That’s certainly not the return on investment the Kremlin would have been hoping for.

Their first child will be born as a result of the new arrival since Mr. Johnson left the White House last year after losing the confidence of his Conservative Party.
The couple is expecting their second kid, according to Mrs. Johnson, a 35-year-old environmental activist and former consultant to the Tory Party.
Posting on Instagram, she said: ‘New team member arriving in just a few weeks.
‘I’ve felt pretty exhausted for much of the last eight months but we can’t wait to meet this little one.
‘Wilf (the couple’s son) is very excited about being a big brother again and has been chattering about it nonstop.
‘Don’t think Romy (their daughter) has a clue what’s coming… she soon will!’
Mr and Mrs Johnson had their first child, Wilfred, on April 29 2020, in the early months of the Covid-19 crisis.
They married in May 2021 at Westminster Cathedral, with their second child, daughter Romy, born on December 9 in the same year.
Mr Johnson, 58, has at least seven children, although he has frequently obfuscated when asked exactly how many.

Three persons have died after a vehicle in which they were travelling fell into a river near Enyiresi in the Eastern Region.
A 3 News.com report stated that the vehicle; Hyundai Sonata car with registration number GS 7776-19, lost control while steering away to avoid a head-on collision with a Sprinter bus that made a wrongful overtaking.
The incident, according to the report, occurred late Friday, May 19, 2023.
An eyewitness to the incident claimed that the Hyundai Sonata’s driver lost control of the steering wheel while attempting to avoid colliding head-on with a Sprinter bus that had made a wrong turn and as a result, somersaulted and fell into the nearby river, killing all three people inside.
The deceased persons, the report added, were on their way to Nkoranza in the Bono East Region to bury a mother.
The bodies were pulled from the river by employees of the Ghana National Fire Service and National Ambulance Service.
The Police Hospital is expected to carry out a mass burial on Monday, May 22, 2023, as part of measures to decongest the hospital’s morgue, a highly placed source at the hospital disclosed on Friday.
Fridges at the hospital’s morgue had been shut down for days, sparking public health concerns after heavy stench engulfed the hospital and its surroundings.
The source told the GNA that the fridges at the morgue were shut down to defreeze for easy retrieval of the bodies to be prepared for the mass burial.
The source said some of the bodies had decomposed, leading to the stench at the hospital.
It said the situation was avoidable provided the hospital had adequate resources (including formalin for the preservation of the bodies) and enough capacity to store more bodies for a longer period.
Earlier, a senior officer at the hospital attributed the stench emanating from the morgue to a large number of unidentified dead bodies at the morgue, with some fridges broken down.
The source said the situation had persisted for about a month.
The GNA and other clients who visited the lab Wednesday morning were turned away by an Officer.
The Officer said the lab was shut down because the offensive odour from the morgue was not good for the staff and patients.
The GNA observed that clients who were aware of the situation were in nose masks, those unaware, buried their noses in their palms as they rushed out of the space.
Dead bodies preserved at the Police Hospital morgue are made up of paupers, unknown former patients, abandoned dead bodies, unidentified accident and crime victims.
Stephen Aidoo, a 36-year-old farmer has been jailed 15 years for defiling his 13-year-old biological daughter by the Cape Coast Circuit Court.
He pleaded guilty simpliciter to two offenses of defilement and incest and further told the Court that he had had sex with the daughter only two times.
The court presided over by Her Ladyship Dorinda Smith -Arthur found Aidoo guilty and convicted him on his own plea.
The court sentenced him to 15 years imprisonment for defilement and five years for incest but the sentence would run concurrently.
Prosecuting Chief Inspector John Asare Bediako told the court that complainant Elizabeth Akyerefi is mother of the 13-year-old girl whilst Aidoo is the father; all residing in the same village.
He said 12 years ago, Elizabeth and Aidoo separated leaving their daughter in the care of Elizabeth (her mother).
Chief Inspector Asare Bediako added that eight years later, Aidoo took custody of their daughter and for about a year, Aidoo has forcefully been abusing her sexually on numerous occasions.
Aidoo, however, warned his daughter to never disclose to anyone or he will disgrace her until the abuse became unbearable.
The Prosecutor said two weeks ago, the 13-year-old daughter who could not bear the situation left home and narrated it to her mother.
On May 17, a formal report was made at the Domestic Violence Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), Twifo Praso, and a police medical form was issued for her examination.
The report after the examination showed that her hymen was absent indicating several sexual intercourses.
Inspector Asare Bediako said the Police upon the report invited and arrested Aidoo, where he admitted the offense and was arraigned before court.
‘Well-loved’ dad was mauled to death, leading to two arrests and the seizure of 15 dogs. In response to Jonathan Hogg‘s passing, police have detained two people and seized a pack of dogs.
Following a dog attack in Leigh’s Westleigh Lane, the 37-year-old died.
After being mauled by the animal, which was thought to be an XL bully, on Thursday night, Mr. Hogg had severe head and neck injuries.
Today, the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said there had been two arrests and the seizure of 15 dogs.
A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dangerously out of control dog causing injury resulting in death, while a 22-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of money laundering.
Both have been bailed pending further enquiries.
GMP Detective Chief Inspector, John Davies said: ‘Our investigations into this violent attack are moving at a pace, as our officers work relentlessly to understand the events that led to Jonathan’s death.
‘GMP officers searched two houses and seized 15 dogs (six adults and nine puppies) believed to be the same breed as that which attacked Jonathan. These dogs are now being cared for at a specialist facility.
Armed police were deployed to the scene Leigh on Thursday night (Picture: MEN Media)
‘Items totalling a value of £37,500 believed to be the result of criminal proceeds have been seized.
‘Dangerous dogs do not have a place in our communities, and we want to reassure the public that we are doing everything in our power to keep people safe.’
The dog who killed Mr Hogg was shot by armed police following the incident.
Last night, his family said in a statement released by police: ‘Jonathan was a well-loved, sensitive, and kind person who will never know how loved and appreciated he was by everyone who knew him.
‘We have been inundated with messages of support and we ask for privacy at this time to come to terms with our loss.’
Dozens of friends of Mr Hogg, known affectionately as ‘Oggy’, also left tributes on Facebook.
Olivia Marsden wrote: ‘Can’t believe what I’m reading! Rest in peace Oggy.’
Another, Amber Rose, wrote: ‘RIP Oggy! So so sad… thinking of you.’
Ella Rose posted: ‘RIP Oggy, absolutely lost for words,’ adding that she was ‘thinking of the kids and all the family at this awful time’.
Police had been called to the Westleigh Lane property at around 9.10pm on Thursday following reports of ‘concern for the welfare’ of a man.
When officers arrived, they found Mr Hogg had suffered serious injuries believed to be caused by a dog which was ‘dangerously out of control’.
