Ghanaian musician Mark Kwesi Arthur, popularly known as DJ Azonto has stated that his latest hit song‘Fa No Fom’ has travelled far more than Patapaa’s ‘One Corner’.

“Fa No Fom has travelled far more than Patapaa’s One Corner hit song because Fa No Fom has been in the system for a very long time,” he said as MyNewsGh.com sighted

He added, “But it is still number one, you sent me your chart, and I was number 3, and normally I do question such charts, but I didn’t because I’ve been topping charts for a long time.”

Talking to Amansan Krakye in an interview on Cape Coast-based Property Radio, DJ Azonto said, ‘you can’t tell me that Sarkodie’s Countryside is more popular than Fa No Fom’.

He continued, “You can’t tell me that Sarkodie’s Countryside is more popular than Fa No Fom, no way, so Property Radio, you people cannot tell me that, but it’s your opinion.

I don’t care if you insult me but if you come after my wife and children, I’II not spare you – Sonnie Badu

Gospel musician Sonnie Badu has said that Negative comments about him do not bother him when he delves into the deep teachings of the Bible.

These were the words of the celebrated musician and writer, who has nearly 50 books to his name, when asked about his reaction to the attacks on him after he stated that pork meat was unclean and could lead to spiritual attacks.

Some social media users mocked and ridiculed Sonnie Badu after he claimed that pork meat was unclean.

While addressing his congregants, Sonnie Badu cited ‘pork meat’ as one unclean meal that attracts evil spirits.

“When the devil wants to get through to you, they must first test your spiritual appetite. The number one way through which witches invade bodies is food. Also, the bible declares that some animals are unclean. What do you think an unclean animal is? In order words, when that unclean animal is found in you spiritually, it gives the witch quick access to jump in.

“Anything that has pork, pork is unclean! Even when you go to the Chinese restaurant and they ask for your order and you say pork, they keep asking you just to be sure, because they are aware of the kind of animal you are requesting to have,” he stressed.

Some social media users slammed the preacher after the message went viral, but in an interview with Daniel Dadson on Rainbow Entertainment, Sonnie Badu said he only speaks the mind of God and will not be moved by the negative comments.

He told the host “these things do get to me. I understand how these things play out. Anything I say is always taken out of context. Nobody calls me to find out why I made the comments. I feel these things are not right. But I understand my people, and I know that she would not spare the attackers if his wife and children were attacked and insulted for how they do their things.”

“I’m used to these things,” he said. I know my people and how they play their game,” he said.

When asked what his wife and children think about the attacks on him, he said he has kept them from getting involved in the issues on social media about him.

He claims he did this to prevent people from attacking his family.

He made it clear that if his wife and children were attacked and insulted, he would not spare the attackers.

  • Elon Musk’s Twitter will start charging you to verify logins using text messages

Elon Musk’s Twitter will start charging you to verify logins using text messages

Here is Elon Musk’s latest cash-generating idea for Twitter, or at least an attempt to incrementally reduce operating expenses: Next month, the service will restrict access to the simplest form of two-factor authentication — which provides a second layer of security to confirm a user’s login credentials — to Twitter Blue subscribers.

Twitter on Friday announced that as of March 20, 2023, only Twitter Blue subscribers will be able to use text messaging as their two-factor authentication method to verify their username and password when they log in to a new device.

Non-subscribers will still be able to enable two-factor authentication (or 2FA in tech lingo) using either an authentication app like Google Authenticator or a physical security key.

If you have text messaging enabled for two-factor authentication on Twitter, and you’re not paying for Twitter Blue, Twitter says on March 20 it will disable the security feature on your account (unless you have switched to another form of 2FA).

Note that Twitter doesn’t require anyone to use two-factor authentication, but it recommends the security step in order to make it harder for someone to hack into your account.

Why the change? Officially, Twitter says it is restricting the text-based two-factor authentication because it has been “abused” by “bad actors” — in other words, it’s somewhat easier to hack than other methods. How restricting text-message 2FA to only paying customers will improve security isn’t exactly clear.

“While historically a popular form of 2FA, unfortunately, we have seen phone-number based 2FA be used — and abused — by bad actors,” Twitter said in an article on its support site. (The new help article is dated Feb. 15, while Twitter publicly announced the change on Friday, Feb. 17.)

But Twitter also is in desperate need of revenue, after Musk assumed $12.5 billion in debt to swing the $44 billion takeover of the social network. Note also that Twitter incurs some cost for sending out 2FA verifications via SMS, which may be another reason it’s moving the feature behind a paywall.

Verifying a Twitter account via SMS text message is the easiest way to use 2FA with the app, since it doesn’t require anything beyond the phone you already have. Setting up 2FA through an authentication app or security key requires you to jump through a few more hoops; Twitter details how to do this on its support site at this link.

Twitter Blue, which includes a blue verified check-mark and will soon be the only way to get the badge, costs $8 per month if purchased via the web and $11 per month on iOS or Android.

The company relaunched the program in December with new safeguards designed to prevent impersonators, after Twitter’s first attempt to launch blue check-marks for anyone who subscribed results in widespread confusion.

Other perks of Twitter Blue include the ability to edit a tweet within a 30-minute window after they’ve been posted, and prioritization of a subscriber’s replies to tweets that they interact with.

In another initiative aimed at boosting revenue, Twitter plans to start charging companies to maintain the gold check-mark verification badges the company introduced in December, which replaced the blue check-marks for businesses. According to early reports, Twitter will charge $1,000 per month, plus an additional $50 monthly for each affiliated sub-account, for the gold check-mark status.

On Friday evening, Twitter began displaying this warning message to users who have two-factor authentication via SMS enabled:

  • I don’t care if you insult me but if you come after my wife and children, I’II not spare you – Sonnie Badu

I don’t care if you insult me but if you come after my wife and children, I’II not spare you – Sonnie Badu

Negative comments about Sonnie Badu, a preacher, gospel musician, and author, do not bother him when he delves into the deep teachings of the Bible.

The media has been reduced to sensationalism – Afia Schwarzenegger

Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa, popularly known as Afia Schwarzenegger, has asserted that the media has recently lowered its standards for publicity.

According to her, our society, especially the media, puts so much pressure on young women these days, and sometimes this pushes them to make the wrong decision.

In an interview with Rahm Besia on Y97.9FM’s ShoutsOnY, she said, “I did a photoshoot for my 10th anniversary as the ambassador for orphans. My children and friends were congratulating me based on the fact that no one said congratulations on your marriage. If you’ve been an ambassador for 10 years, what exactly do we say to you apart from “congratulations”.

She noted that she has done so many things in this country that are not deemed commendable, like building orphanages, fostering children from orphanages and putting them in vocational institutions, and no one sees that as something for which to congratulate her.

“I bought my own house and I didn’t receive congratulations; I bought a second house, and it was speculated that Medikal rented that house for me when he’s not even my family member.” I buy cars and I have the media saying it’s rented, but I wear kente with no man and no confirmation, just congratulations, and the media lazily runs with it, ‘Afia Schwarzenegger secretly gets married.” To who?” she emphasized.

According to her observations, the media continues to report without conducting an investigation, which is wrong.

“The media could have easily gone to my children’s school to find out if they were there, but they didn’t.” “We’ve reduced the media to sensationalism before I finished my photoshoot; it was all over social media that I was married when I wasn’t,” she stated.

Afia went on to say that people always like to carve out the monster that she is not, and gone are the days that she would get furious and ignore them, but now she is ready to prove that she’s not who the media portrays her to be.

“I am too intelligent, so I need to use my intelligence to debunk certain stories.”

“I need to prove to Ghanaians that the media are the liars, not me,” she added.

Stella Aba Seal details secret behind her ever-green look

Gospel musician Stella Aba Seal has announced that she pays critical attention to her diet by avoiding foods and drinks that can have a long-term effect on her health.

Stella, in an interview with blogger Zionfelix, attributed her glow to years of self-discipline and God’s grace over her life.

“I don’t even know what to say but it is all by the grace of God. Discipline has also contributed to it. Whatever you take into the body reflects on the outside. I try my best to be in good shape, sometimes I sleep without food,” she disclosed.

She added that young people who do not treat their bodies right end up sick in their old age.

She admonished the public to invest in their diet and take good care of their bodies. This she believes will give them a radiant look at all times. “I hardly eat meat…I chew a lot of nuts…I also don’t drink ice water, this helps with my voice.”

“What we eat and drink is very important. You can get a bloated stomach, and diabetes from all you eat. In the same way, when you eat right, it can reduce fat in the body…the food we eat plays a major role. Sometimes when you’re young, you’ll not see the effect but when you’re 40 years, you’ll start paying for the ‘damages’ you did to the body,” the gospel singer added.

  • Security Expert caution students against violent behaviour

Security Expert caution students against violent behaviour

Mr. Kwabena Otuo Acheampong, a Security Expert, has cautioned students against violence and crime.

He explained that students were not immune from Ghana’s laws.

Also, the 1992 Constitution and other laws were applicable to all persons unless it was explicitly stated otherwise.

Mr. Acheampong, who is also a Law Enforcement Officer, indicated that intentionally and unlawfully causing damage to another person’s property, stealing, and causing harm, among others were criminal offences, whether committed by students or on higher education campuses.

The Security Expert told the Ghana News Agency that the violent and destructive behaviour of students of the universities, Senior High Schools, technical, vocational, and other places of higher education was criminal and punishable by law.

Mr. Acheampong said the jurisdiction of law enforcement officers were not limited by space, community, or group of persons regarding students and higher learning environments.

He stressed that students committing various crimes on campuses, ranging from dealing in narcotic drugs, internet intrusions, fraud, stealing, causing unlawful damage, causing harm, assaults, sexual offenses, and others must be arrested, investigated, prosecuted, and punished.

He said the recurring and repetitive conducts of violent and destructive acts of students might be because such persons were not made to answer for their crimes.

Mr. Acheampong said when students were not punished for their criminal acts, it allowed other students to engage in similar crimes.

The Law Enforcement Officer emphasized that regulations and punishments were what build decent, and disciplined societies.

He said punishment helped in  corrections and as a deterrent to build the individual.

“The Broken Window Theory states that we can deal with major crimes when we pay attention to minor infractions to the law,” he said.

Mr. Acheampong noted that people’s inclination to criminal conduct developed when it was not dealt with immediately.

“If students can agree together among themselves for any violent, destructive or criminal behaviour, it suggests that such persons after school are capable of committing any major crime against the State,” he said.

The Security Expert however cited Section 26 of the Criminal Offences Act which indemnifies children under 12 years from  crimes.

  • Get screened for cervical cancer, Medical Officer appeals to women

Get screened for cervical cancer, Medical Officer appeals to women

Women aged 21 years old and above have been advised to undergo a cervical and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) screening for cervical cancer as early detection save lives.

Dr. Mrs. Anita Owusu-Afriyie, a Medical Officer in the Oncology Unit of the International Maritime Hospital (IMaH) said most women shy away from cervical cancer screening using cost as an excuse.

She noted that “screening is less expensive as compared to the cost of treatment if one fails to undergo screening which most often leads to early detection and prevention the worse can happen.”

Dr. Mrs. Owusu-Afriyie, gave the caution at the second “Your Health! Our Concern!  a Ghana News Agency Tema Regional Office initiative that seeks to set the medium for the propagation of health information to influence personal health choices by improving health literacy.

“Your Health! Our Concern! is a public health advocacy platform initiated by the Ghana News Agency Tema Regional Office to explore the parameters of the four approaches to health communication: informative, educating, persuasive, and prompting.

Dr Mrs Owusu-Afriyie explained that whereas paying for about GHs500 to get the two sets of tests done and subsequently get a vaccination if tested negative to protect themselves, waiting, and getting symptoms before reporting to the hospital would attract a series of tests, plus treatment which would cost several times more than the screening.

Speaking on “Female Cancers- Cervical Cancer,” she said cervical cancer was preventable, therefore, the need to screen early adding that “all those who report to the hospital with symptoms already have advanced stage of the cancer; all pre-cancer cells detection are seen through screening.”

The Medical Officer explained that due to the position of the cervix, which is at the mouth of the womb, and serve as the link between the uterus and the vagina it is difficult to detect any abnormal happenings there without being screened for it.

She said due to its position and the inability to pick up issues related to it without a medical screening, it was the most killer of women compared in Ghana compared to breast cancer.

She said statistics form the HPV centre indicated that every year a total of 2,797 women were diagnosed with cervical cancer, and 1,699 died from it.

Dr Mrs Owusu-Afriyie said the HPV could be contracted through any form of sex, vaginal, anal, and oral as well as an affected penis or vulva.

She said untreated warts could also lead to cervical and penile cancers therefore any detection of warts on the private part must be taken seriously and reported for treatment at the hospital.

She added that the cancer could spread to other organs of the body such as the spine, lungs, and the liver, among others.

The Medical Officer, therefore, encouraged women to examine their vulva when bathing to identify early if any wart starts growing there to report.

Dr Mrs Owusu-Afriyie added that other symptoms include painful sex, post-coital bleeding, spotting in between menses, and offensive vaginal discharges.

Ghana Highway, three bodies to demolish structures on waterways

The Ghana Highway Authority, jointly with the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, Metropolitan and Municipal Assemblies, and the National Security Council are to demolish all structures on waterways to ensure public safety.

Mr Kwasi Amoako-Atta, Minister for Roads and Highways, explained that flooding in Accra was caused by encroachment on the outfall and the drains that collect runoff water from the road and adjoining land.

As a first step, the Ghana Highway Authority would desist drains as part of routine maintenance.

Mr Amoako-Atta announced the proposed demolition, on the floor of Parliament in Accra on Friday.

The announcement was partly in response to a question from Mr Akwasi Owusu Afrifa-Mensa, Member of Parliament (MP) for Amasaman.

Mr Afrifa-Mensa inquired as to what caused the flooding on the N6 Circle Ofankor road, particularly in front of the Ghana Communication Technology University, in front of the Shell fueling station near Peace FM, in front of Muus, close to Taifa Junction, and in front of the Ofankor Barrier.

The flooding, according to Mr Amoako-Atta, was caused by encroachment on the outfall and the drains that collect runoff water from the road and adjoining land.

“Mr Speaker, in addition, the hydraulic capacity of the drains has been reduced by the accumulation of slit and refuse,” he said.

    In 2012, the Achimota-Ofankor Road, N6, was upgraded from a two-lane single-carriageway to a three-lane dual-carriageway.

The total length of the reconstruction is 5.7 km, which is part of the urban section of the Accra-Kumasi Road Project’s dualisation.

  • Let’s stop corruption by allowing systems to work – Kofi Amoabeng

Let’s stop corruption by allowing systems to work – Kofi Amoabeng

Captain Prince Kofi Amoabeng (Rtd) a Ghanaian businessman, has advised political leaders not to interfere with systems put in place to check corruption.

He asked them to rather empower those who managed the systems and hold them accountable where necessary.

“We can only address corruption when we put systems in place and make sure these systems work to a fault. Political leadership must set the example and sanction anybody who goes foul to them whether it’s their relative or party mate but unfortunately, no leader in politics has the guts to do it,” he noted.

Captain Amoabeng (Rtd) said this at the 6th Edition of the “Timekeeping Dialogue Series”, in Accra.

The event created the platform for discussions around businesses, Government officials, and how individuals can become better at utilising time.

He said the African had the potential to do the right thing and even better than the Western world, however, the huge drop in respect and appreciation for core African values had caused retarded growth of African nations.

“The African has got the potential to do what is right and even do it better than the Western world but in our own setting, you won’t get that chance. And the fear for me is that the trend doesn’t look good at all.

“We are losing our values by the day; there is no respect in our homes, and likewise in the schools, you have people buying questions and people are becoming more corrupt in every aspect. So, we are getting worse and not even trying to get better.

“It has gotten so bad that all institutions have become politicised. When I was in the Army, you could not discuss politics or religion but now one’s promotion is based on his or her political affiliation. Policemen are paying to enter the Police Service, among other corrupt acts.”

Captain Amoabeng (Rtd) also the Co-Founder of UT Bank, said political leaders knew the ways to curb corruption, yet “no democratically elected leader would go for it”.

He, however, discarded the option of a coup d’état because they had also failed to provide viable solutions over the years.

He advised businesses to love their clients, serve them to the best of their abilities and not exploit them.

They should also love and respect every member of their staff without discrimination to ensure the success of their businesses.

Captain Amoabeng (Rtd) said just like political leaders, business owners must put systems in place to check their staff and be the first to abide by the rules.

  • Three grabbed over GHC1,300,000 gold scam

Three grabbed over GHC1,300,000 gold scam

Three persons have appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly swindling a businessman of GHC1,300,000.

The three accused persons are said to have collected the amount under the pretext of securing the businessman two kilograms of gold but they failed to honour their promise.

The three: Gabriel Koomson, Abeiku Tetteh and Obeng Mensah, have been jointly charged with conspiracy to commit crime to wit defrauding and defrauding by false pretence.

They have denied the charges and the court presided over by Mrs Evelyn Asamoah has admitted each accused person to bail in the sum of one million cedis bail each with four sureties each.

The court stated that two of the sureties should be justified with landed property.

The accused persons would reappear on March 7, 2023.

The prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Maxwell Oppong, told the Court that the complainant Mr Kojo Boateng, a businessman, resided in Accra whilst the accused persons were residents of Kwabenya, Akuapim Mampong and Oyarifa, respectively.

The prosecution said the complainant and Koomson were very good friends.

It said on February 7, 2023, the complainant informed Koomson that he had some investors who wanted two kilos of gold to buy but he did not know the gold business very well.

The prosecution said Koomson also told the complainant that if the money was given to him, he could get him the gold.

The court heard that on the same day, Koomson went to the complainant’s residence and an amount of GHS 500,000 was given to him in the presence of a witness.

The prosecution said Koomson also informed Tetteh whom he claimed to be his business partner.

It said Tetteh also brought in Mensah and introduced him as his personal driver.

According to the prosecution, on February 8, 2023, the accused persons went to Prestea in search of the gold, but they did not bring any gold to Accra.

It said on February 9, 2023, on their way to Accra, Tetteh informed Koomson that one Alhaji Farouk had informed him that he could get someone to secure him the gold adding, the person would bring the gold to Accra for the transaction.

The prosecution said the said Alhaji Farouk sent Tetteh the person’s phone number.

It said Tetteh contacted the said person who also introduced himself as Isaac Amakye and had agreed to meet Tetteh in Accra.

The prosecution said on February 10, 2023, the accused persons who were in Tetteh’s vehicle drove to Kums Hotel at Lapaz and met Amakye and they all drove to Danbis Hotel at Lapaz to meet one Charles.

It said at the hotel, Charles brought out two metallic substances alleged to be gold and showed it to Koomson and Tetteh.

The prosecution said on the same day, at the Danbis Hotel, Koomson made a video call showing the metallic substances to the complainant as the gold.

It said on February 11, 2023, at about 1000 hours, the accused persons drove back to the said hotel and met Amakye and Charles (now at large) who demanded proof of the money before the gold would be given out.

The prosecution said the accused person drove back to the complainant’s house and collected cash of GHC 1,300,000 from him under the pretext of going to buy the gold.

It said the accused persons after taking the money allegedly drove back to the Hotel and met Amakye and Charles.

The prosecution said Koomson and Tetteh allegedly took the money and went to a room with Amakye and Charles.

It said Koomson allegedly handed over the money to Tetteh and Charles in the room.

The prosecution said Koomson and Amakye took the metallic substance and left for Achimota Mile 7 to test the alleged gold.

The prosecution said a few minutes later, Koomson and Amakye returned with the alleged gold.

The prosecution said Koomson instructed Tetteh to hand over the cash to Amakye and Tetteh did so.

It said Amakye left the room with the money and a few minutes later, one Police Officer and three other guys who were in EOCO vests allegedly entered the Hotel room and handcuffed Charles and took the gold under the pretext of taking him to EOCO for investigation and put him in awaiting vehicle and sped off.

The prosecution said Koomson informed the complainant about the arrest.

It said the complainant with assistance of the Police Patrol team arrested the other accused persons.

Many Ghanaians are in a state of mourning after the death of footballer Christian Atsu was confirmed death following a deadly earthquake that struck southern and central Turkey as well as western Syria, on February 6.

The incident trapped many people under the rubble, including Atsu.

Atsu was a sports personality who had a strong presence on social media at the time of his demise – specifically on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

GhanaWeb looks at the last posts the 31-year-old made on social media at the time of his death:

The posts was accompanied by some images capturing his goals and the moment of victory, he shared with his teammates.

  • Is Disney’s magic spell wearing off?

Is Disney’s magic spell wearing off?

Accountant Kit Parfitt has no illusions about the variable quality of some of Disney’s recent Marvel Studios’ releases.

The She-Hulk and Moon Knight mini-series were weak, he says. The Thor: Love and Thunder film even worse. “Not re-watchable.”

But the 27-year-old, a self-described “massive” Disney fan who lives near Brighton, says those disappointments won’t keep him from cinemas this month, when the franchise’s latest – Ant-Man and the Wasp – debuts.

“When it comes to Marvel, Star Wars, I’ll watch anything,” he says.

That’s the kind of commitment that Disney is banking on as it tries to forge a profitable path in a world of falling cinema sales, pay TV cancellations and money-losing online streaming.

Boss Bob Iger, who was reinstalled in November after the abrupt ousting of chief executive Bob Chapek, told investors this month that the company would be doubling down on its big brands like Marvel and Frozen, time-tested profit-makers, while slashing spending on more risky “general entertainment” fare.

There’s a new Little Mermaid, another Indiana Jones and a third Guardians of the Galaxy on deck this year.

Toy Story 5, Frozen III and a second Zootopia, known as Zootropolis in the UK, will come after that.

The moves are a gamble that the strategy that Mr Iger oversaw during his first run as chief executive from 2005 through 2020, when he acquired Marvel, Pixar and Lucasfilm and the firm’s share price increased more than sixfold, will continue to work its magic.

He even said the company would step back from its streaming push a bit, looking more to cinemas and traditional television to distribute material than it has in recent years, when it sent content to its Disney+ streaming service in a push to win subscribers.

Will the traditional playbook be enough?

    Toy Story 4
Image caption, Toy Story 4 reunited much of the original cast of the first movie, along with some new additions such as Forky

Jessica Reif Ehrlich, an analyst at Bank of America, says the resonance of Disney’s brands give it a leg up on its competitors, but investors have yet to be convinced.

Disney’s share price has nearly halved since March 2021, and did not move much after Mr Iger outlined his plans.

“Everyone knows there are a tonne of challenges,” she says. “There’s a lot of heavy lifting ahead.”

    Fan fatigue?

Cinema ticket sales remain roughly a third lower than they were in 2019, before the pandemic closed theatres around the world.

And the rise of streaming has fractured audiences, making it difficult to generate the kind of buzz that propels people to pay for entertainment.

Oxfordshire mum-of-two Jackie Allen says she opted against a Disney+ subscription for her two children, unconvinced the offering justified adding another expense. The company’s upcoming slate does not excite her much either.

“It looks like they’re rehashing something just to make money rather than whether it should be made,” she says.

Even committed fans like Kit will confess to some fatigue.

Kit Parfitt and his wife Andrea
Image caption, Kit Parfitt and his wife Andrea were browsing Disney’s store on a recent holiday in New York, hoping to use up a $40 voucher left over from their honeymoon at Disney World last year

Speaking to me among the mix of tourists and locals browsing Disney’s cavernous store in Manhattan’s Times Square, he says Disney’s recent action films such as Avatar can reliably lure him to the cinema.

But wife Andrea, who walked down the aisle to a song from Disney/Pixar 2009 film Up, worries the lengthy backstories that come from developing a franchise like Marvel can be off-putting to new audiences.

And both say they feel little urgency to see something like a Toy Story 5.

Not only are the couple more inclined to stay at home with the cost-of-living rising, but they are generally growing tired of the tale after four films and a spin-off.

“Milking something to number five is a bit much,” Kit says.

The charge that Disney relies too heavily on recycling and reworking classics is nothing new.

After all, the firm is gearing up for the ninth version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs since the first one debuted in 1937.

But in recent years the strategy, which has fuelled decades of success, has become entangled in America’s increasingly bitter culture wars, with some updates driving accusations from conservatives that the firm is becoming too “woke”.

    Minnie Mouse
Image caption, Minnie Mouse got a controversial makeover from British designer Stella McCartney

Last year’s release of Lightyear, a spin-off of Toy Story, for example, was clouded by controversy over a same-sex kiss, which the company restored after employees accused the firm of censoring gay affection.

Banned completely in some markets, the film’s same-sex plotline also drew criticism from right-wing politicians such as US Senator Ted Cruz.

Despite the risks of alienating some fans, the profit-making potential of a franchise strategy has been proven, says Janet Wasko, professor of media studies at University of Oregon and the author of Disney Inc.

“It is in some ways risky, but building on already existing fans and consumers and expanding what possibilities they have to consume – if it’s successful, it really can be incredibly profitable,” she says. “I can’t imagine they will stop.”

    Amanda and Brandon
Image caption, Amanda Welch and Brandon Dumont say they could watch any Disney movie over and over

Disney fan Amanda Welch, 29, a subscriber to the firm’s streaming platform who has been to Disney World more than 10 times, says the company’s strategy of going back to its big-hitting brands has done little to dim her love of Disney.

She and fiance Brandon Dumont, 31, have cancelled the service a few times to help manage their expenses. But they keep coming back. Sometimes they turn on Disney+ simply to soothe them to sleep.

“There’s not really any Disney movie I’m sick of,” Brandon says. “I could watch them over and over.”

Met Police: Katie Price releases letter about online abuse of Harvey

Katie Price has published a letter from the Met Police telling her officers are facing misconduct proceedings over alleged involvement in a WhatsApp group that targeted her disabled son Harvey.

The TV star and model called the alleged behaviour “disgusting”.

The letter, posted on her Instagram account, says the officers are accused of sharing “inappropriate and derogatory images” of her son.

The Met Police said it was “unable to discuss the allegations”.

The revelation of the letter by Price comes 18 months after she called for eight officers under investigation for allegedly sharing inappropriate material about Harvey on WhatsApp to be “named and shamed”. She added: “I don’t like the police being horrible to Harvey.”

In the letter she shared on Instagram earlier on Friday, an investigator from the Met’s professional standards department informs her that “a number of Metropolitan Police officers are alleged to have breached the standards of professional behaviour in regards to discreditable conduct”.

The letter adds that this related to “being part of a WhatsApp group chat that has posted inappropriate and derogatory images of your son, Harvey Price”.

Image of the post on Price's Instagram stories, showing the letter alongside a comment from her in pink text.
Image caption, Katie Price said the officers facing allegations of misconduct needed to be “named, shamed and exposed”

The letter also states that the accused officers will be subject to a gross misconduct hearing in west London next week.

Price posted a comment on Instagram, alongside an image of the letter, which read: “It’s disgusting that police officers from here have felt the need to laugh and use disgusting content on Harvey by creating a WhatsApp group.

“I would attend this court day but I’m away. They need to be named, shamed and exposed.”

The Met declined to comment on the matter, but confirmed a hearing was due to commence on 21 February and is expected to last four days.

A notice on the Met’s website lists eight people who are facing misconduct allegations relating to their membership of a WhatsApp group between 2016 and 2018.

The notice adds that the alleged conduct, “if proven, amounts to gross misconduct and is so serious as to justify dismissal”.

Harvey, born in 2002, was diagnosed with septo-optic dysplasia, a rare genetic disorder affecting his eyesight, as well as autism and Prader-Willi syndrome, which can cause learning difficulties and behavioural problems.

Harvey was also targeted by comedian Frankie Boyle, whose routine on his Channel 4 show Tramadol Nights was found by Ofcom in 2011 to appear to “target and mock the mental and physical disabilities” of Price’s son, then aged eight.

  • Selena Gomez praised for speaking on lupus and body-shaming

Selena Gomez praised for speaking on lupus and body-shaming

Selena Gomez has been praised for explaining how her body changes when she takes medication to treat lupus.

The singer, 30, has previously been open about her diagnosis with the condition – but she’s recently been subject to nasty comments about her appearance.

On a TikTok live, Selena told fans that when she’s taking medication she “holds a lot of water weight”.

“I would much rather be healthy and take care of myself,” she said.

“My medications are important, and I believe that they’re what helps me.”

Lupus is an incurable autoimmune disease where the body’s immune system becomes hyperactive and attacks normal tissue.

Symptoms can be managed using medication. In 2017, Selena revealed she had a kidney transplant linked to her lupus.

Kate Appleby and Chris Clarke, both 30, have lupus – and they’ve told BBC Newsbeat what it means to them to have Selena talk so openly about her experience.

    Kate Appleby
Image caption, Kate, 30, says she can relate to how Selena has been body-shamed

“Having someone like Selena stand up and shout above the rooftops has full support from myself, and probably the whole lupus community,” Chris says.

Kate, who has nearly 40,000 followers on Instagram and says she’s also been a victim of body-shaming too, says Selena’s bravery is “incredible”.

“I go from being very skinny to being a bit curvier.

“You know, you go from being visibly more ill to your illness being much more hidden,” she says.

“And because I have a sort of public profile people then very quickly judge and I’ve had a lot of criticism from people commenting on not only how my appearance changes, but also how I manage my illness.”

    Chris Clarke
Image caption, Chris says he hadn’t heard of lupus before he was diagnosed

More women than men have lupus, according to the NHS.

Chris also says his medication changes his appetite.

“I do have a bit of a beer belly, but that’s not by drinking beer. I’ve been on one of the medications, which is a steroid,” he says.

“Everyone thinks ‘steroids, great – you build up muscle’. But it’s not that steroid.

“It makes you hungry, you want to eat more and trying to control the appetite is a lot harder.”

    What is lupus?

According to the NHS, lupus is a complex and poorly understood condition that affects many different parts of the body.

Its symptoms range from mild to life-threatening.

There are some types that just affect skin, but the term is usually used to describe a more severe form of the condition – lupus erythematosus (SLE).

That affects many parts of the body, including the skin, joints and internal organs.

Lots of people can have the condition for a long time without knowing before they get a sudden flare-up.

The symptoms include extreme tiredness, rashes (especially on the face, wrists and hands) and joint pain and swelling.

Even mild cases can be distressing and have a big impact on quality of life.

But the symptoms can be similar to more common conditions so it’s often hard to diagnose.

Chris says Selena raising awareness means a lot, as he hadn’t even heard of the condition when he was first diagnosed.

“What Selena is doing ultimately save lives,” Kate adds.

“Going back to mental health issues when I got diagnosed, if there had been someone like Selena at that point, being very vocal and talking about it, would have personally made all the difference for me.”
