Israel fires across border into Lebanon

The Israeli military says its airplanes attacked some Hezbollah sites in Lebanon, after Hezbollah attacked from the border to the north.

IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari said that they attacked places where terrorists keep their weapons and military equipment.

Ever since the war started in October, Hezbollah, a militia supported by Iran, has been attacking the northern border region of Israel. Hamas also claims it fired rockets from Lebanon towards Israel.

Israel has moved many people out of the area, but the fighting has not turned into a big war yet.

More update on this story soon…

At Nasser hospital in Khan Younis, Gaza, pictures show patients lying on a bloody floor after Israeli bombs hit the area.

The person who speaks for the health ministry in Gaza, which is run by Hamas, says the situation is really bad. Ashraf al-Qudra says that 43 people have died and their bodies have been taken to the hospital just this morning.

“There are no emergency medical services in the hospitals in southern Gaza Strip,” he said.

So”The hospitals are totally overwhelmed and can’t handle all the injuries that they have to treat. ”

He says it’s getting harder for ambulances to get to injured people in certain areas.

Israel is saying that they are aiming at places where Hamas is, and they are trying to avoid hurting innocent people.

Shapps to travel to the Middle East as UK considers ways to increase help

The Defence Secretary of the UK, Grant Shapps, will go to the Middle East soon to find new ways to help Gaza with more humanitarian aid.

Shapps is having a hard time getting enough help through the Rafah crossing, so he is thinking about using two RFA ships – Argus and Lyme Bay – to provide aid from the sea.

    No more information was provided.

He said a Royal Air Force plane will fly over Gaza and Israel to look for people held by Hamas. The plane will not have weapons.

British people are hostages, but we do not know how many yet.

Shapps promises to do everything he can to bring British hostages back home.

Israeli-Hamas war: Little boy with brittle bones living in tent

“At night, I feel very cold and sometimes I have coughing fits. My chest also hurts sometimes. ” I feel cold every night. “I want blankets and clothes,” said Zakaria Shada, who is 13 years old and has fragile bones. He uses a wheelchair.

He had to run away from the southern city of Khan Younis with his dad to Rafah, near the border with Egypt, and now he lives in a tent.

“We want to go home instead of living on the streets,” Zakaria said according to the news agency. “We hope this war ends soon, if it’s what God wants. ”

Zaher Shada, Zakaria’s dad, thinks it’s better for Zakaria to live in a tent instead of a crowded shelter. Zakaria could easily get sick or hurt in a shelter because it’s too small.

Zaher is afraid that if he lives with a lot of people, he could get sicker because his immune system is weak. He’s also worried that if someone touches him, they could hurt him.

‘Gaza is not a place for human beings’ – Displaced Gazans

We have been talking to Palestinians who had to leave their homes in the al-Mawasi area. Israeli officials say it is a safe place for them to stay.

They say the narrow piece of land on the south of Gaza’s coast is very bad, like a desert, and has too many people.

Reem Abd Rabu lives with 16 other people in one tent. She left her home in northern Gaza with her family in October because the Israeli military said it was not safe to stay there.

She says al-Mawasi is a place with no amenities for people, and thinks it should hold 10,000 people but now has over 100,000.

One of the people in a tent with Reem is Dr. Mona Al Astal. She says their situation is really bad, and many people in the makeshift al-Mawasi communities are getting sick with skin and breathing problems.

“She says people have no water, food, or electricity. They have nothing. ”

“This morning, some people forcefully entered a UNRWA storage to take food. “

  • Primary module of India Moon mission returned to Earth’s orbit

Primary module of India Moon mission returned to Earth’s orbit

India’s space agency Isro has brought back part of the rocket from its recent Moon mission back to Earth’s orbit successfully.

The “propulsion module” separated from the Vikram lander after taking it near the Moon. The Vikram lander then landed on the Moon on 23 August.

After doing many complicated moves, the module came back into Earth’s orbit.

The experiment is important for Isro’s future plans to send people into space.

Isro said that the module will keep watching Earth from its new position.

When Chandrayaan-3’s spacecraft, with the Pragyaan rover inside, landed on the moon’s south pole, India became the first country to do so. It also became one of the few countries to land softly on the Moon, following the US, the former Soviet Union, and China.

The lander and rover worked for two weeks collecting information and pictures. After that, they were turned off at night on the moon.

The propulsion module kept circling the Moon and looked at Earth with a special instrument called Spectro-polarimetry of HAbitable Planet Earth (SHAPE). It sent information back to Isro.

The space agency says that after being in the moon’s orbit for a month, the propulsion module still had more than 100kg of fuel left. They decided to use it to do special experiments that will give more information for future moon missions.

“When the spacecraft broke away from the engine part, it was flying very close to the Moon,” explained Mila Mitra, a ex-Nasa scientist and co-founder of Stem and Space, a space education company in Delhi. The module started its complex journey on 9 October by first raising its orbit from 150km to 5,112km.

Isro said that the module went around the Moon many times before leaving its area of control on November 10th. Since November 22nd, it has been orbiting Earth.

The space agency says the module is staying very high up, at over 115,000km. This is much higher than where geostationary satellites are. They’re doing this to make sure it doesn’t crash into anything. Its cargo – SHAPE – is still working, looking at Earth and sending information for study.

In September, Isro announced that the Vikram lander had successfully completed a “hop experiment”. The agency announced that the lander was told to start its engines, it went up 16 inches and landed about 30-40cm away. This means the spacecraft could be used to bring back samples or for human missions in the future.

MsMitra says that the new experiment brings Isro closer to a return mission. “The experiment is important because it has the potential to bring back astronauts and space samples, and also for future missions to other planets. ”

Also, when the module runs out of fuel, it would have fallen onto the moon and stayed there as debris forever. Isro has also fixed this important issue by bringing it back.

  • Home in Virginia explodes as armed suspect approaches

Home in Virginia explodes as armed suspect approaches

A big blast destroyed a house in a Washington DC suburb while police were searching the area, officials said.

Police were asked to go to the house in Arlington, Virginia, at 4:45 PM EST (9:45 PM GMT) on Monday because someone was shooting a flare gun.

When they tried to go in later, they were shot at and there was a big explosion.

Police at the scene said that only a few people were hurt, but they can’t find the person who may have caused the trouble.

The fire department put out the fire.

The trouble began when the person shot a flare gun 30 to 40 times, but no one got hurt and nothing got damaged, the police in Arlington said.

The police got a legal paper to look for things and tried to talk to him on the phone and through a loudspeaker, but the person didn’t answer and stayed locked in the house.

“The police were trying to search the suspect’s house, but the suspect fired a gun inside the house,” the police department said.

The suspect shot a gun around 8:25 pm EST, according to Arlington police.

It is not known what made the explosion happen and people are still looking into it.

We don’t know who the suspect is or how they are doing. Police said it looked like there was nobody else in the house when it exploded.

Some people who live nearby said on social media that they felt their houses shake.

A video on the internet shows a police car driving towards a house while an explosion happens. Other videos on social media are showing debris and smoke flying into the air as the house explodes. The explosion has blown off the roof and walls of the house.

The police moved some people out of their homes, while others were told to stay inside and stay safe.

Before the explosion, a person named Jim Mathews posted on X saying he saw some flares.

“He said it looked like fireworks were being shot into the sky. ” “Will last for 15-20 seconds. ” Several in about 5 minutes or so.

Virginia’s Democratic Representative Don Beyer wrote on X that he was very scared, and he thanked the first responders for keeping everyone safe.

  • YouTuber who crashed a plane to get views sentenced six months

YouTuber who crashed a plane to get views sentenced six months

A person who makes videos on YouTube has been sent to jail for six months because he crashed his plane on purpose to get more views, and then lied about it to investigators in the United States.

Trevor Jacob, who is 30 years old, put up a video of a plane crashing in December 2021, suggesting that it was not on purpose. He jumped out of the plane holding a selfie stick and used a parachute to land.

The video was watched by millions of people.

In a deal with the court, Jacob admitted that he made the video as part of a deal with a company.

The person who used to compete in the Olympics for snowboarding admitted earlier this year that they committed a serious crime by trying to hide evidence to stop a federal investigation.

Federal prosecutors in California said on Monday that Jacob most likely did this crime to get attention on social media and news and to make money.

“However, we cannot accept this kind of risky behavior,” they said.

Jacob said that he felt very down to earth by this experience and thought it was the best choice.

In November 2021, Jacob flew by himself from an airport in Santa Barbara, California. He had cameras on his plane. Jacob brought a parachute, cameras, and a selfie stick with him.

He did not want to go to where he was supposed to go. Instead, he wanted to jump out of his airplane with a parachute and film himself. The airplane would crash while he was parachuting to the ground. This information was given by the US Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California.

The airplane had an accident and hit the Los Padres National Forest 35 minutes after it took off. Jacob walked to the place and found the video.

He put a video called “I had a plane accident” on YouTube on December 23rd. The video also advertised a company that sells wallets, the prosecutors said.

Some people weren’t sure about the crash. They saw that Jacob had a parachute and didn’t try to land the plane safely.

He told the National Transportation Safety Board about the crash and they said he needed to keep the wreckage safe. Jacob said he didn’t know where the site was.

He went and came back in a helicopter, then he removed the wreckage and got rid of it later, as the plea agreement says.

The video got almost three million views before it was taken down.

Military doctor wins World Mullet Championships

A doctor in the British Army won an award for the best mullet hairstyle at a competition called the World Mullet Championships.

Dr Alastair Bush, from Bovington Camp in Dorset, said he was very happy to have won the trophy at the contest in New South Wales, Australia.

In February, the doctor went to Australia to compete in a pub competition in Kurri Kurri.

He won and was asked to come back for the finals, which was on Saturday at a motorsport park in the Hunter Valley.

Dr Bush said he spent two years working on a project to help Testicular Cancer UK by raising money and awareness.

He said, “It’s really great. ” I’m really excited about the news – really happy.

“Today was great. I had lots of fun, met some awesome people, and saw some really cool haircuts. ”

Dr Bush started growing his hair in the back during lockdown in October 2021, when he could not go to the barber shop.

Mulletfest started in 2018 in Kurri Kurri, a small town with 6,000 people about 80 miles north of Sydney. It brings in thousands of people from all over the world every year.

Rwanda’s home secretary to ratify new asylum agreement

James Cleverly, a government official, is in Rwanda to make a new agreement with the country about where people who need protection can go.

The new rule will send some people seeking asylum to Rwanda to apply for asylum there. It was first talked about in April 2022.

The government wants to improve the treaty and create new laws to make sure its plan doesn’t face more legal problems.

The BBC was told that the new agreement might mean British lawyers will work in Rwandan courts to help with the concerns of the Supreme Court.

Before he left for his trip, Cleverly said that Rwanda is a safe country. He also said he wants to stop people from crossing the English Channel in small boats.

The UK government gave £140m to Rwanda for the plan, but no migrants have gone there yet.

  • E-cigarettes: France supports bill to outlaw single-use vaporizers

E-cigarettes: France supports bill to outlaw single-use vaporizers

The French government has agreed to stop people from using disposable e-cigarettes because they are harmful to the environment and people’s health.

It still needs support from France’s Senate and approval from the EU Commission before it can become a law.

If both agree on the bill, the government thinks the ban will start in September 2024.

Many other countries in Europe, like the UK, Ireland, and Germany, are thinking about doing the same things.

Disposable vapes are sold in France at tobacconists for about €9 (£7. 70), which is less than the cost of a pack of 20 cigarettes. They are expected to provide about 600 puffs, which is like smoking 40 cigarettes.

In September, Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne, who is frequently seen using a vaping device in parliament, announced that the government is working on a new plan to reduce smoking.

Deputy Francesca Pasquini said that they are very cheap, have tasty fruity and sugary flavors, and are small enough to easily hide from parents. ”

Advocates say that companies, especially those in China, are purposefully trying to attract teenagers by making their products look like candy and offering lots of different flavors like marshmallow, chocolate, watermelon, and ice candy.

Last month, the Alliance Against Tobacco (ACT) said that 15% of French 13-16 year olds have tried smoking at least once. Many people say they began when they were 11 or 12 years old.
French leader Élisabeth Borne uses an e-cigarette while answering questions in a meeting at The National Assembly in Paris on 18 July 2023.

Disposable e-cigarettes can harm the environment too. In the UK, a study found that over one million electronic devices were being thrown away every week last year according to the environmental organization Material Focus.

Health Minister Aurélien Rousseau said that e-cigarettes are a big problem for the environment.

“It’s a big problem for the environment,” a group of French doctors and environmentalists wrote in Le Monde newspaper earlier this year.

They explained that each throwaway e-cigarette is made of plastic and has a non-removable battery with about 0. 15 grams of lithium, along with nicotine salts and a small amount of heavy metals.

Vaping is thought to be a little better for your health than smoking. But the vapor you breathe in can still have some of the same chemicals as cigarettes, like nicotine. Experts are saying that it’s too soon to know how bad vaping is for you.

  • New Zealand: Thousands demonstrate against new government’s plans to reverse law of Indigenous people

New Zealand: Thousands demonstrate against new government’s plans to reverse law of Indigenous people

Many people in New Zealand are angry and are protesting against the new government’s plans to change laws that helped Indigenous people.

The new Prime Minister, Chris Luxon, and his government want to change the agreement with the Indigenous people and use less of their language.

Māori leaders say the three-party coalition is against Māori people.

However, the government has stated that it is dedicated to making things better for both Māori and non-Māori.

The new leaders of the coalition government said they don’t want to separate the country by race, and they want to look at the affirmative action policies.

On Tuesday, about 300 cars blocked roads in Auckland during protests, and police arrested two people.

Protesters also marched in Wellington and many other cities.

The leaders of the Maori political party called for protests on the first day of parliament’s meeting since the election in October.

The National party won the most votes, but they needed help from two smaller right-wing parties to run the government in New Zealand.

The new government was just started last week after more than a month of deciding on rules. Some experts think that the smaller political parties have made the main party become more conservative.

“Mr Luxon said that people may think many different things about us, including me. ” “I want to show what I want to happen in this country: more togetherness, everyone being successful, and better results. ”

A lot of Māori people are upset about the idea of changing the meaning of the Treaty of Waitangi, which is an important document in New Zealand.

The treaty is a very important document for the country. It was signed by British people and Māori leaders. It explains the rights of Māori people, how resources are shared, and gives them political power.

The old government’s ideas about its principles have caused the country to struggle with the harm of colonization. Some of the new leaders said this had gone too far during the election.

The new government wants to shut down the Māori Health Authority, called Te Aka Whai Ora, which was started by Jacinda Ardern’s Labour government. They also want to change the names of some departments from Māori to English.

Last week, it also said it will get rid of the country’s strict smoking ban in order to pay for lower income taxes. Health experts are very unhappy about the decision. They think it will be bad for Māori people, who smoke more than other people.

A national Maori health organization, Hapai Te Hauora, said it was very bad for the health and wellbeing of all New Zealanders.

The Māori people are still not doing as well as other people in things like health, money, education, and being in jail or dying. People live seven years longer on average.

Rawiri Waititi, who helps lead the Te Pāti Māori Party in New Zealand, said the government’s new policies are like going back to the 1800s. The Te Pāti Māori Party now has six out of 123 seats in Parliament.

Mr Waititi said our protest today got our people going.

Former Prime Minister Chris Hipkins also said that Maori progress is going backwards by three or four decades, which is bad.

Critics are upset that the new government wants to change important environmental and safety laws that were made during Ms Ardern’s time in office.

The new government wants to allow offshore gas and oil exploration again and change the gun laws that were made stricter after the Christchurch terrorist attack in 2019.

  • Ex-president of Mauritania imprisoned over corruption

Ex-president of Mauritania imprisoned over corruption

A court in Mauritania’s capital city, Nouakchott, has sentenced former President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz to five years in prison.

On Monday, the court said that Aziz did bad things with money and used his job to make himself richer in a wrong way.

The court said they can take away his things that he got illegally, but he doesn’t have to go to jail for the other things he was accused of.

Aziz, who is 66 years old, became the president in 2009 by taking down President Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdallahi in a coup. He led Mauritania until 2019.

He has been in court since January with 10 other important people, including two former leaders and ministers from his government.

They were accused of many crimes, like using their power unfairly, moving money illegally, getting rich in a dishonest way, and improperly using their influence for personal gain.

The court, which focuses on corruption and economic crimes, also gave lighter sentences to some of the other people involved on Monday, but the former prime ministers and two ex-ministers were found not guilty.

Aziz said he didn’t do anything wrong during the trial and thinks he was being targeted for political reasons.

He and the current President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani used to be close friends, but now they are not getting along. This was reported by the AFP news agency.

He is also accused of getting very rich during his ten years as ruler.

One of Aziz’s lawyers, Mohameden Ould Icheddou, said that the trial we went to was about politics. The decision made in the trial is also based on politics.

His legal team also stated they will try to overturn the decision.

  • 14 people die in Thai bus tragedy that breaks vehicle in half

14 people die in Thai bus tragedy that breaks vehicle in half

Fourteen people in Thailand died when a two-level bus went off the road and hit a tree.

Pictures on the internet show the bus tilted over and its front broken in half, with some parts of the tree stuck in it.

Thirty-two people got hurt in a crash in Prachuap Khiri Khan, a province by the ocean in the south of the country.

Thailand has a lot of car crashes, which cause thousands of deaths each year.

Some people think that this is because the roads in the country are not very safe.

In 2022, 15,000 people died in car accidents in Thailand, according to the Road Accidents Data Centre. In the UK, where there are slightly fewer people, the number is 1,700.

In 2021, almost one out of every three deaths in the country was because of traffic accidents, according to the World Health Organization.

The reason for the crash on Monday night is not known for sure, but the police think the driver might not have gotten enough sleep. AFP told

He was really hurt but he lived. Officials are also testing how much alcohol is in his blood, the news agency reported.

The police are still checking to make sure they know who died in the crash.

Prachuap Khiri Khan is a favorite spot for tourists because of its nice beaches, caves, and walking paths.

Rescuers worked for a long time to help the dead and injured people out of the bus, according to the Sawang Prachuap Dhammasathan Foundation.

Photos on the foundation’s Facebook page showed a lot of people trying to remove the tree that was on top of the bus. Someone broke the car windows with a hammer.

In the past three years, fewer people have died in road accidents. However, Thailand is still one of the top 10 worst countries for road safety.

However, very few people are asking for safety improvements, and the problem hardly ever comes up during elections.

Many people think this is because most of the people who die – more than 70% – are riding motorbikes, and they are usually some of the poorest people in society. Also, most accidents happen on country roads.

Wearing helmets is often not enforced in Thailand, but it is enforced in Vietnam and Indonesia. Alcohol often causes accidents.

The government in Thailand tends to be influenced by the campaigns supported by rich city residents.

The roads in Thailand are in good condition for driving fast, but they are often not well-lit or marked, which can make accidents more likely.

Sometimes, people who speed don’t get punished. The fines are not very high and are sometimes not even paid.

It doesn’t happen very often that Thai drivers lose their driving privileges.

  • Namibia upset about president’s children’s trip to Dubai for COP28

Namibia upset about president’s children’s trip to Dubai for COP28

Some people in Namibia are angry because they found out that President Hage Geingob‘s four children went with the government’s group to the COP28 climate summit.

Six of the president’s family members were part of Namibia’s group in Dubai.

President Geingob’s office said on Monday that his children went to the city, but they did not use government money for their trip.

The office didn’t say how the rest of the family got paid.

President Geingob and Madame Geingos used their own money to pay for their children’s flights and hotel stays. The Namibian Presidency announced this on Monday.

“The people of Namibia and the media can be sure that no public money has been used for the first couple’s children. ”

The president’s office said that the accusations were meant to harm his reputation and were motivated by politics. They are meant to take attention away from the great job President Geingob and the Namibian team did at COP28.

However, some people in Namibia have said that the president’s response is not good enough. They think it doesn’t show that the President Geingob’s children and family paid for their own travel.

Some people want the president to say why his family members went to COP28 and why they were part of the government group if their trip was paid for privately.

“Do you think we are stupid. Why would they be on the delegates list if they weren’t part of it. Why is it important for them to be in Dubai with state delegates. ” a person from Namibia asked on X.

Namibian MP Inna Hengari said that we are expecting a detailed report to be given in parliament.

She was upset with the government for paying for the president’s family to travel, but saying they didn’t have enough money to pay for an MP and parliamentary official to go to COP28.

Many people are upset about African governments sending a lot of people to COP28. They think it’s a waste of money.

Some governments like Nigeria, Tanzania, and Kenya say that not all the delegates they send to meetings are paid for by the government. Some of them represent the media, charities, and private businesses.

  • Another two bodies discovered on Indonesian volcano

Another two bodies discovered on Indonesian volcano

Rescue workers found two more dead people on an Indonesian volcano that exploded this weekend. Now, 13 people have died.

The search for 10 hikers on Mount Marapi started again on Tuesday, after being stopped because it was unsafe.

Marapi was still erupting and many rescuers were climbing on slippery ground to find the missing people.

On Sunday, the volcano erupted and sent a big cloud of ash 3km (9,800ft) into the air. This ash covered the nearby villages.

75 people who were hiking were in the area when the volcano erupted. Many of them have been taken away from the area and got help for their burns.

Rescuers are using times when the weather is not too bad to search for the 10 missing people, Syahlul Munal told the media in Indonesia.

“We need to go fast,” he said.

Mr Munal, who helps with the rescue team, said they found two bodies in different places on Tuesday.

Mount Marapi is a very active volcano in Indonesia and is very popular for people who like to go hiking. It is also called the “Mountain of Fire. ” Some paths were closed and then opened again in June because of ash explosions in January and February. In 1979, Marapi had a very bad eruption and 60 people died.

Ahmad Rifandi, who works at the monitoring station in Marapi, said that he saw five eruptions from midnight to 08:00 local time (01:00 GMT) on Tuesday.

“Marapi is still erupting a lot. ” He said we can’t see how tall the column is because a cloud is covering it.

On Sunday, a video showed a big cloud of ash from a volcano spreading in the sky. The ash covered cars and roads.

On Monday, people took turns moving the people who passed away and the people who were hurt down the difficult mountain ground and onto ambulances with loud sirens.

“Some people got burned because it was really hot, and they have been brought to the hospital,” said Rudy Rinaldi, who is in charge of the disaster response agency in West Sumatra.

A hiker named Zhafirah Zahrim Febrina asked her mom for help in a video from the volcano. The 19-year-old student, who goes by the nickname Ife, looked surprised, with dirty, burnt skin and messy hair covered in grey ash.

“Mom, please help Ife. ” “This is what Ife is going through at the moment,” she said.

She went on a hike with 18 friends and is now in the hospital getting help.

Rani Radelani, her mom, told AFP that her daughter went through a lot of difficulty.

“She feels upset in her mind because she saw her burns and had to deal with the pain all night,” she said.

Marapi is on Sumatra, which is the westernmost and third biggest island of Indonesia. It is 2,891 meters (9,485 feet) tall.

The Indonesian islands are on the Pacific Ring of Fire, which is an area with lots of volcanoes and earthquakes because of the plates in the Earth’s crust.

Cyclone Michaung: Cyclone with heavy rains makes landfall in India

Severe weather with heavy rain and strong winds is hitting southern Andhra Pradesh state in India as a powerful cyclone hits the area.

Nine people, including a child, have died in Andhra Pradesh and nearby Tamil Nadu state because of the heavy rain.

Officials have moved many people out of areas that are at risk of flooding in both states.

Many neighborhoods are underwater and videos show cars floating in the water.

Cyclone Michaung has hit the land between Nellore and Kavali in Andhra Pradesh, according to the state chief minister’s office. The weather department in India said that the storm will have winds up to 110km/h (68mph) but they will slow down after the storm hits land.

Approximately 9,500 people in Andhra Pradesh have been moved to 211 relief camps.

“Very, very heavy rain will keep falling in Andhra Pradesh. ” The storm will become less strong and turn into a depression by Wednesday morning, according to Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, who is the director general of IMD. He told reporters this.

A 4-year-old child died in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh after a wall fell on them according to a government official. Eight people died in Tamil Nadu because of the storm on Tuesday. They were killed by falling buildings and electricity.

Weather experts have given a warning in certain areas of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Many schools, colleges, and offices are not open in some areas.

Many flights and trains have been stopped in Andhra Pradesh and farmers have reported damage to their crops.

There are warnings for heavy rain and strong winds in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Odisha because they are near the coast of the Bay of Bengal. Authorities have told the fishermen not to go out in the rough seas and said that the strong waves could cause big damage to homes.

Nearly 7,000 people had to leave their homes in coastal areas of Tamil Nadu on Monday because of strong rains and winds.

The Chennai airport, which is one of the busiest in India, was closed on Monday because its runway was flooded. It started again on Tuesday morning because the cyclone was moving away and the rain was getting lighter.

In Chennai, which is a big place for making electronics and other things, some factories, including the ones that make iPhones, were shut down. This was reported by Reuters on Monday.

After the rain stopped, many areas in Chennai had too much water, which made it hard to get around. Some people told BBC Tamil reporters that they were having a hard time because they didn’t have electricity and water after the rains.

  • Airstrike in Nigeria ‘mistakenly’ kills 85 Muslim worshipers

Airstrike in Nigeria ‘mistakenly’ kills 85 Muslim worshipers

At least 85 people were killed by a military attack during a Muslim holiday in Kaduna state, Nigeria.

The military drone killed innocent people by accident while trying to attack terrorists and criminals. Governor Uba Sani didn’t say how many people died.

The defense ministry said the operation was a “sad and unnecessary event”.

Many people were hurt in the attack.

A state official named Samuel Aruwa said that a military officer named Maj VU Okoro explained that the Nigerian army was on a regular mission against terrorists but accidentally harmed members of the community.

Maj Gen Edward Buba, who speaks for the military, said on Tuesday that they did an airstrike because they had good information that there were “terrorists” in that place.

Governor Sani is looking into the “sad event” that happened when people from Tundun Biri gathered for a religious celebration.

The Northwest Zonal Office got information from local authorities that 85 dead bodies have been buried, and they are still looking for more. This was said by the National Emergency Management Agency in Abuja.

“It’s important to know that children, women, and old people were injured or killed. ”

One person saw what happened and told the media that there were two attacks.

“The plane dropped a bomb on the place, and it killed our people, including women and children,” he said.

“The second bomb was dropped on us while we were trying to bring back the bodies of the first blast victims. ” “Many of my family members died, and 66 are hurt and in the hospital. ”

A lady saw what happened after the bombing. She told the media that there were bodies scattered everywhere.

She said that some women died while holding their babies. Some of the babies lived, but others died with their mothers.

The Nigerian military has been blamed for hurting innocent people while fighting militia groups called bandits in the north-west of the country. The government is calling the gangs “terrorists”.

In 2021, a Nigerian fighter jet accidentally killed at least 20 fishermen while attacking a jihadist camp in north-east Nigeria.

The Nigerian forces have accidentally killed over 300 people since 2017, according to a report by SB Morgen, a research firm.

  • 2026 Commonwealth Games will not be held in Gold Coast

2026 Commonwealth Games will not be held in Gold Coast

The Gold Coast said it doesn’t want to host the next Commonwealth Games. So, the event will not be in Australia.

The city by the ocean held the 2018 Games, and the mayor, Tom Tate, said it could host them again without anyone else’s agreement.

The federal and state governments and his deputy mayor have said they don’t want to help with the event.

The people in charge said they might need to delay or call off the next part of the Games.

The Commonwealth Games happens every four years and is a big sports event with many different sports. It was only stopped during World War Two. To join, competitors must be from one of the Commonwealth’s 70 nations or territories, which used to be part of the British Empire.

The Commonwealth Games Federation had a hard time finding a place to have the 2026 games. Victoria said they would host, but then changed their mind. Then, the only other place that wanted to host the 2030 games, Alberta, also changed their mind.

No other organizations want to host the 2026 or 2030 Games. Governments say the event is getting more and more expensive, but experts think its importance and how it’s seen worldwide is decreasing.

However, the CGF said it was trying to find a new place to hold the event.

“A spokesperson said that since Victoria withdrew as host of the 2026 Games in July 2023, the Commonwealth Games Federation has been working hard with Commonwealth Games Associations to find a new host who can take over at short notice. ”

“We are talking to many possible hosts in the Commonwealth and plan to give an update on our talks in early 2024. ”

The people who planned the Victorian Games thought it would cost $2. 6 billion, but the government said it would actually cost over $6 billion. The games were held in cities like Geelong, Bendigo, and Ballarat.

Mr Tate suggested that the Gold Coast in Queensland could hold a smaller version of the event for A$700m. He also mentioned the possibility of sharing it with the city of Perth, which is a six-hour flight away in Western Australia.

He says that some rich people and athletes want his plan to happen, but the government do not support it.

“We tried our hardest and that’s all anyone can ask for,” Mr. Tate said in a statement on Sunday.

Australia will be known as a place that broke a global sports contract and damaged its reputation.

Commonwealth Games Australia (CGA) wanted to host the Games in Australia, but the chief executive, Craig Phillips, said he respected Mr. Tate’s choice

  • 440 unaccompanied minors intercepted by South Africa

440 unaccompanied minors intercepted by South Africa

Border officials in South Africa have stopped a group of over 440 children who were traveling from Zimbabwe without any adults with them.

The Border Management Authority (BMA) said that children under eight years old traveled on many buses on Saturday.

The BMA said they didn’t have their parents, guardians, or the necessary permission letters required by the law.

The reports say that the kids were visiting their parents who have jobs in South Africa.

The Border Management Authority checked 42 buses at the Beitbridge border post on social media platform X. They found 443 kids under age eight traveling without parents or guardians, and they were being taken to South Africa for bad reasons.

“We didn’t let them in and got the Zimbabwe officials to send them back to Zimbabwe. ”

More than a million people from Zimbabwe live and work in South Africa. It is thought that the kids were going to visit their parents for Christmas.

The bus drivers said that the children were going to sports events.

The leader of the Africa Diaspora Forum, who speaks for people from other countries living in South Africa, said that some of the 443 children were traveling with their grandparents.

Ngqabutho Mabhena said on his YouTube channel that the parents of these kids had called him and told him this.

“He said that is why they were allowed to pass through the border on the Zimbabwean side. ”

Mr Mabhena reminded Zimbabwean parents in South Africa to always accompany their children on buses and make sure they have the right paperwork.

He said, “Don’t give your kids to somebody you don’t know. We should be good parents and not make our kids feel uncomfortable. ”

South Africa is dealing with more people entering the country illegally through the border with Zimbabwe in the north.

Immigration is a big problem in South Africa’s politics.

The government is feeling pressure to control the number of people coming into the most developed country in sub-Saharan Africa because the border management is not working well.

In October, President Cyril Ramaphosa started a new border force to reduce the number of people entering South Africa illegally from Zimbabwe and other countries.

Rugby player from Barbarians admits to having sex attacks in a pub

A rugby player from the Barbarians team has confessed to touching three women inappropriately at a bar in Cardiff.

Api Ratuniyarawa, aged 37, admitted to committing two assaults and one sexual assault at Revolution between October 31 and November 1.

The Fiji international player was chosen to play for the Barbarians against Wales at the Principality Stadium last month.

Ratuniyarawa from The Orchard in Kislingbury, Northamptonshire, said he was guilty in Cardiff Crown Court.

Ruth Smith, who is representing Ratuniyarawa, requested to have his bail conditions extended before his sentencing on 9 January.

She said he and his family, including his wife and four children, have strong connections to the UK and he won’t try to run away.

Ms Smith said that the attacks happened because people were drinking too much alcohol.

She said: “The person accused is the only one who earns money for the family. He has many meetings set up to make sure his family has enough money.

Api Ratuniyarawa does not have a club because the team he used to play for, London Irish, closed down.

Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke approved the request for bail. Ratuniyarawa must stay at home from 7:00pm to 7:00am and go to the Northampton police station every day.

He can’t come to Wales or talk to his victims, unless it’s for his sentencing hearing.

He was picked to play for the Barbarians against Wales on 4 November but then he got in trouble.

The player, who has also played for Northampton Saints and in France, was hoping to get a job with a new club by playing for the invitational side, but now he has to apply for benefits instead.

The Barbarians team is made up of players from various clubs who play in several games together every year.

Ratuniyarawa said he did not commit two more sexual assault charges against one of the women. The prosecutors agreed with his denials.

Ratuniyarawa was also added to the list of people who have committed sex offenses.

  • Israel issues order to evacuate south Gazan city

Israel issues order to evacuate south Gazan city

Israel’s army told people to leave part of the biggest city in southern Gaza, as it fights more with Hamas.

A map showed six parts of Khan Younis in the north and center where about 167,000 people needed to move away.

People saw tanks in the east, and a doctor said the nearby hospital was very busy treating a lot of injured people.

A lot of the 2. 3 million people in Gaza are staying in the south because they were told to leave the north.

The army of Israel said it will use strong force in the south, like it did in the north where there was a lot of damage in the past two months.

Israel started a big fight in Gaza because Hamas attacked them. Many people were killed and some were taken hostage.

The health ministry in Gaza, which is run by Hamas, says that almost 15,900 people have died in the area since the war started. The United Nations also says that a very bad situation is happening and it is a big disaster.

A short break in fighting for seven days ended on Friday. During this time, 105 hostages and 240 Palestinians were set free from Israeli jails.

Israeli tanks move close to the fence that separates Israel from Gaza.

The Israeli military said it will have strong operations in the south of Gaza, just like the ones in the north.

The BBC reporter in Gaza, Rushdi Abu Alouf, who is now in Istanbul, said that there were about 200 Israeli air attacks during the night.

Local authorities have said that 15 to 20 areas in and around Khan Younis were attacked. The population there has grown to about 1. 2 Deir al-Balah, a town in the middle, was also heavily bombed, about 8km (5 miles) to the north.

Many people, including women and children, were brought to Khan Younis’s Nasser Hospital from different places because they were hurt. A lot of people died or were badly hurt.

Mohammed Eid cried and wiped his tears from his injured face as he stood with other sad people next to covered bodies outside the hospital on Monday morning.

“We were sleeping peacefully, not bothering anyone. ” “Out of nowhere, a bomb dropped on us, and the entire building was ruined,” he said to the media.

“My brother and his wife were hurt a lot” My daughter died, and his daughters also died, including his youngest. We can’t find my mom and my niece.

Later, people in Gaza said they saw Israeli tanks and vehicles with armor on the eastern edge of Khan Younis. This area is closest to the fence that separates Gaza from Israel.

Moaz Mohammed told AFP news agency that he saw tanks on the main road, Salah al-Din Road, which is one of two routes designated by Israel for leaving the area.

The tanks were shooting at cars and people in the area between Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) told people to stay away from a part of Salah al-Din Road because it is now a dangerous battlefield.

The IDF told people in six areas of Khan Younis to leave right away to stay safe.

Map showing parts of Khan Younis where the IDF has told people to leave (4 December 2023)

The UN says that before the war, about 117,000 people lived in the marked area in Khan Younis. It has 21 places where 50,000 people without homes are living now.

The map shows them where to go: al-Fukhari, east of Khan Younis, and the crowded neighborhoods of al-Shaboura and Tal al-Sultan in Rafah.

“The IDF spokesperson said that Israeli forces are still using strong force against Hamas terrorists and their buildings, but they are trying to avoid hurting the civilians that Hamas uses as shields. ”

“We are giving out papers with special codes that people can scan with their phones. The codes will show them a map that helps them find safe places in Gaza. ” The map shows which neighborhoods people should go to so they don’t get caught in the fighting.

The IDF started the program because the US wants them to keep civilians safe. But our reporter in Gaza talked to Palestinians in the areas that were affected, and some of them don’t know about the map or can’t see it because they don’t have internet.

“This is not a map, it’s a joke. We don’t know where to go,” said a displaced person sheltering in Khan Younis.

Hurt kids from Palestine are getting help at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis.

Southern hospitals are having a hard time managing the large number of injured patients, including kids.

At the European Hospital in Khan Younis, an orthopedic surgeon said there were hundreds of injured people and the hospital was very busy.

“It’s a mess – we can’t take in any more patients and they keep coming,” Dr. Paul Ley said. “We have over 360 people waiting for surgery, and it’s too much for us to handle. ”

Dr Ley also said that the hospital’s hallways and outdoor areas were crowded with 6,000 to 7,000 people who had to leave their homes. Some of them were medical workers who had run away from the northern part of the country.

“Anaesthetics and painkillers are becoming scarce, so we have to lower our safety standards. ” We are still at the hospital and the Israelis know we are here, but some pieces of metal from a bomb have hit the hospital.

Doctors Without Borders said that the hospital in Deir al-Balah had over 100 people who died and more than 400 who were hurt in the last 2 days. The hospital is full and cannot take any more patients.

The UN reported that four hospitals in the north are open but are only able to take in a small number of patients and offer limited medical help. In the southern area, 12 hospitals are only working partly. They can only take care of half as many patients as they could before the war, and only one hospital can do difficult surgeries.

  • Five corpses discovered in US military aircraft wreckage close to Japan

Five corpses discovered in US military aircraft wreckage close to Japan

American and Japanese teams looking for things found five dead people in the remains of a US military plane that crashed near Yakushima island last week.

The CV-22 Osprey plane crashed last week while carrying eight people. Only one had been found before.

Two out of the five bodies that were found on Monday have been brought back.

The accident made Tokyo request that the US stop flying its Osprey planes in Japan.

During the accident, the Osprey was flying from a US Marine Corps air base in Yamaguchi Prefecture to Kadena Air Base in Okinawa for training.

It asked to land on Yukushima island right away before crashing into the water.

People who saw it happen said that the plane turned upside down and caught on fire before it crashed. We still don’t know why the incident happened.

On Monday, the US Air Force Special Operations Command announced that the US and Japanese teams searching for the aircraft made a big discovery. They found some parts of the plane and the main body of the wreckage with help from ships and dive teams.

Efforts to rescue the rest of the crew from the crash site are still going on, the statement said. They haven’t been found yet.

The first victim’s body was found a few hours after the crash.

The Air Force called him Staff Sgt Jake Galliher. He’s 24 years old and from Massachusetts. He was in an intelligence unit at Yokota Air Base in Japan.

Osprey was made in 2007. It works as a helicopter and a plane with a propeller.

The US military’s Ospreys have been in a few other serious crashes lately.

In August, another type of Osprey aircraft crashed during a military training in Australia. It resulted in the deaths of three US Marines and injuries to 20 other people.

Last year, a crash in the California desert involving an Osprey killed five Marines.

Japan, which is the only other country with Osprey aircraft, stopped using their fleet for a short time last week.

It also requested the United States to stop flying the 30 Osprey aircraft stationed in Japan until they could be inspected to make sure they are safe.

The Pentagon told the BBC that the aircraft’s unit is not flying right now. They are making sure it’s safe for all flights and operations.

Japan and the United States have an agreement about their military. Japan won’t be very involved in the investigation of the crash.

This made Japan very angry because the US did not follow this rule and did not stop its airplanes from flying.

Sabrina Singh, the assistant to the person in charge at the Pentagon, said that the US has already begun giving details about the accident to our partners in Japan. “We talk a lot with our leaders about airplane safety and other safety issues. “

  • Ireland ‘concerned’ about people seeking shelter in tents

Ireland ‘concerned’ about people seeking shelter in tents

The Irish government cannot give homes to all the people asking for asylum.

The Department of Integration said it can’t find housing for all asylum seekers because there aren’t enough available.

Ireland is now hosting over 100,000 people. This includes 74,000 who have left Ukraine because of the war, and more than 26,000 who are seeking asylum from other countries.

The deputy prime minister is worried about asylum seekers having to sleep in tents and the potential health and safety problems that come with it, according to Irish broadcaster RTÉ.

Micheál Martin said things are tough and the Irish government will be meeting later this week to figure it out.

The Department of Integration will provide day services where people can come in any time to use hot showers, get meals, and do laundry every day of the week.

It also promised to give tents and sleeping bags to anyone who needs them.

The department said its workers are trying to make more beds available for use.

It says that since January 2022, it has made over 10,000 beds available for people who come to Ireland looking for protection.

The spokesperson said that the department couldn’t meet demand because of problems they couldn’t control.

The person in charge of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees told RTÉ’s News at One that the news was very worrying and sad.

Enda O’Neill mentioned that this has happened before from January to June this year. More than 1,500 people seeking asylum did not get a place to stay when they came to the state.

“I don’t think it’s safe for anyone to be on the streets, especially after what happened last Thursday. The situation has gotten worse since the beginning of the year with more intimidating and threatening behavior on our streets. ”

Mr O’Neill said that Ireland did very well to get everything ready, but he thinks that since the summer, things have changed a lot.

‘They assured us it was secure region’ – Gaza resident

Israel bombed heavily in the Gaza Strip overnight.

Salah Al-Arja, who lives in Rafah in the south of the territory, said his house was destroyed while they were sleeping even though he thought they were in a safe place.

“We were sleeping and thought we were safe in Rafah. But at 10:20, they attacked with barrels and destroyed everything. There were children, women, and people who died,” he told Reuters.

“No place is safe in Rafah, Khan Younis, Gaza, or Dier. They lied about it being safe and made us leave, but then they bombed us anyway, even in crowded areas. ”

“They say it’s safe here, but it’s not. The whole Gaza strip is dangerous, and they’re lying to us. ”

Portion of major route in southern Gaza unsafe

The Israeli army said that people in Gaza should not use a part of the main Salah al-Din Road.

The map on social media shows an area northeast of Khan Younis city.

This was said by Avichay Adree, who is a spokesperson for the IDF and speaks Arabic.

He says the place is like a battlefield now and very dangerous.

He says the IDF will let people move down south from areas north of Khan Younis using the coastal road.

As we mentioned before, the IDF has told people in a big part of the Khan Younis area to go south today.

Just to remind you, at the beginning of the war, Israel told the people in northern Gaza to leave and go to Khan Younis for their safety.

  • How is Israel arranging for evacuation of Gazans?

How is Israel arranging for evacuation of Gazans?

Israeli soldiers are moving into more areas of the Gaza Strip and telling people to leave, especially in the middle and south.

One way it is giving out these instructions is by using a map on the internet.

that separates the Gaza Strip into many smaller sections.

People who live in the area are asked to pay attention to what is happening and to do what the IDF tells them through the news and other media.

Today, it posted on social media to tell people in 20 areas in southern Gaza to leave their homes.

The map showed arrows pointing to the south, telling people to go there.

The IDF has told people to leave an area by dropping flyers and making phone calls with warnings. They sometimes use QR codes on the flyers to show a map of safe places.

Many people have criticized its way of doing things.

Sari Bashi from Human Rights Watch said Israel wants people without electricity or internet to scan a barcode to find out where they should go.

She also said Israel is telling people to run away “when there’s nowhere safe to go” and no safe way to get there.

The UN says that most people in Gaza had to leave their homes because of the war. The US told Israel to keep civilians safe, and Israel says it is doing its best to do that.

Hamas-run health ministry: Death toll in Gaza approaching 16,000

The Gaza health ministry, run by Hamas, said that 15,899 people have died since Israel started its military campaign in response to the 7 October attacks.

349 people have died in Israeli attacks since they last told us on Sunday.

Hamas says that 70% of the people who died are women and children.

Israel wants to get rid of Hamas from the Gaza Strip because some Palestinian gunmen crossed into Israel, killed 1,200 people, and took 240 captive.

Over 100 people who were held captive were set free during a ceasefire that lasted for seven days. But the ceasefire ended last Friday.

  • Gaza’s evacuation situation incredibly difficult

    Gaza’s evacuation situation incredibly difficult

The situation of getting people out of Gaza is very tricky.

The Israeli military made maps of Gaza, dividing it into 2,400 blocks. This has caused confusion for the people living there about where they should go.

The map has been shared on the internet, on X (formerly Twitter), and on leaflets with QR codes. However, this supposes that you have a functioning smartphone to use.

They wanted to encourage people to go to al-Muwasi by the sea. I talked to some people and they said there are no services available, so now people are being sent to other places.

It’s really hard for me to understand the orders in Jerusalem, and I can imagine it’s even harder for people in Gaza.

These people don’t have a car and have been forced to leave their homes. They also have family members with them, which makes it difficult to travel quickly to a place that may not be safe.

The US is telling Israel to stop hurting and killing Palestinian people. That’s why it’s in this plan that it says will save lives.

It seems too hard and relies too much on working smartphones to be a good solution in the chaos of Gaza under attack.

Khan Younis surgeon: ‘We are at capacity to receive no more patients, but they keep coming’

Paul Ley, a bone doctor at the European hospital in Khan Younis, told the media that it’s really busy and they can’t take any more patients, but they keep coming.

He says: “We are getting new patients from the northern part of Gaza, and also from the fighting that is happening nearby. ”

The army of Israel is still doing missions on the ground in the south of Gaza, where the hospital is.

We have too many people on the list for surgery, and it’s too much for us to handle. The hospital is crowded with people who have been forced to leave their homes. There are about 6,000 to 7,000 people in the hallways and outside the hospital. Ley is there with the Red Cross surgical team to help.

“It’s really tiring, both for the body and mind. Local staff are being attacked in their homes. I’m working with surgeons who had to leave the north, and now they’re living in tents with other refugees. ”

“We don’t have enough anaesthetics and painkillers, so we have to lower our safety standards. ”

“We are still at the hospital and the Israelis know we are here, but some shrapnel has hit the hospital. ” Their way of letting us know about the fighting has been effective. We can’t see it, but we can hear it.

3-year-old Gazan child looses legs due to ongoing Israeli-Hamas war

James Elder, who speaks for the United Nations children’s agency Unicef, is worried about how the Israeli military action in southern Gaza is affecting children.

“A strong message from the top has been sent that we must not let the terrible things that happened in the north happen in the south. ” “Yes, that is definitely true,” Elder said.

He guessed that bombs drop “every 10 minutes”.

The people in southern Gaza are in danger and feeling very tired because they have been forced to leave their homes multiple times due to bombing. They have nowhere else to go and are trying to stay strong for their children.

“When I see so many children being brought in on stretchers with terrible war injuries and their parents screaming, it is clear that hospitals and shelters are not safe for them,” he said.

“I don’t feel safe, and no one else feels safe. ” Doctors in Gaza have a word for a certain type of war victim, according to the BBC.

Dr Tanya Haj-Hassan, who works with the charity Doctors Without Borders, says there’s an acronym unique to the Gaza Strip called WCNSF. It stands for “wounded child, no surviving family” and is used often.

Ahmed Shabat is a child who was hurt and crying when he got to the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza. He was described with an acronym. A three-year-old boy was okay after an air attack on his home in Beit Hanoun, in the middle of November. But his dad, mom and big brother were all killed.

He was very lucky and only had a few small injuries. Later it was found out that his little brother Omar, who is two years old, also lived through the attack. Their uncle Ibrahim Abu Amsha chose to take care of the two children who had lost their parents, in addition to his own family.

He first brought them to Sheikh Radwan city, but then he said they left because Ahmed got hurt by pieces of glass from a bomb.

They later went to Nuseirat camp and stayed in a school that is part of the UN. However, even in their new place, they were hit once more, and Ahmed had really bad things happen to him.

Abu Amsha said, “I left the school and saw Ahmed in front of me, lying on the ground without his legs. ” “He was moving on the ground towards me, with his arms open, asking for help. ”

One of Ahmed’s family members who was with him during the explosion, died.

Khan Younis Hospital ‘overwhelmed’ by number of deaths

In the busy part of the Gaza Strip, there was a lot of bombing after the Israeli military told people to leave.

A representative said that the military operations against Hamas in the south of the Palestinian territory will be just as strong as those in the north, which have caused a lot of damage.

The US, which is Israel’s best friend, asked Israel to avoid hurting more innocent people. A hospital in the southern city of Khan Younis has too many injured people and is struggling to help them all.

A person who works for the UN in Gaza says that Palestinians have very few places to go for safety. The UN thinks that 1. 8 million people from Gaza have been forced to leave their homes.

People thought there might be another short break from fighting in Gaza, but it doesn’t seem likely now. Last week, a break from fighting only lasted for seven days before it ended.

Israel will keep fighting until it reaches its goals, like taking out Hamas.

A leader from Hamas said that they will only talk about swapping Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners if there is a long-term agreement to stop fighting.

Israel claims its military is extending its reach throughout Gaza

The Israeli military is now attacking more areas in Gaza where they believe Hamas is located. This is according to their spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari.

Hagari said that soldiers were meeting Palestinian fighters directly.

This morning, the Israeli military told people in Gaza to leave 20 areas in the middle of Gaza. They put up a map on social media to show which areas to leave.

With arrows pointing to places in the south where people should go.

A person who speaks for Unicef, the group that helps children all over the world, said he’s having a hard time finding new words to describe how bad things are for children in Gaza because the fighting there keeps going.

“Right now in south Gaza, this is the worst attack of the war,” said James Elder.

Israeli operation’s focal point is Khan Younis

Israel’s military is currently fighting Hamas fighters in Gaza, and some experts believe that this could lead to a bigger ground operation in the area.

Public Kan Radio says that Israeli air strikes are targeting Khan Younis because they think top Hamas leaders, like Yahya Sinwar and Mohammed Deif, are hiding there. Yahya Sinwar is the leader of Hamas in Gaza and Mohammed Deif leads the military.

According to the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, the fighting in Khan Younis is expected to be very difficult. The situation is complicated because there are a lot of Palestinians who had to leave their homes in the north and are now living there. There may also be Israeli hostages in the area.

Hamad City: Airstrikes target Gaza houses funded by Qatar

During the weekend, there was a video of people running away from Hamad City in Khan Younis because of Israeli air strikes. Smoke was rising from the air strikes. Many apartment buildings were completely destroyed and turned into blackened rubble.

Qatar knows that this is important, especially because they couldn’t help make the temporary truce between Israel and Hamas last longer.

Qatar paid for and built the smart housing project, including a big mosque and gardens. It was named after the old leader of Qatar, who started the project when he visited 11 years ago. He was the first leader to visit the Palestinian area after it was controlled by Hamas.

The first apartments in the complex were given to Palestinians whose homes were destroyed in the 2014 war between Israel and Hamas. Many people have lost their houses once more.

Islam al-Farah, a local government worker, told the BBC that the population of Hamad City has doubled from 15,000 to over 30,000 in the past few weeks. This is because people who were forced to leave their homes in northern Gaza are now living there.

“He said that many people are living on the streets, in tents, or in parking areas. ”

“Recently, we got a notice telling us to leave Hamad City because it’s going to be attacked,” he said.

Hamas accused of raping Israeli women

One thing Israelis are still dealing with from the 7 October attacks is accusations of Palestinian fighters committing sexual violence against women.

Collecting evidence is really hard, and it’s upsetting that UN Women waited so long to say something about the terrible things Hamas did to Israelis.

Ruth Halperin Kaddari is a lawyer from Israel who fights for women’s rights. She was part of a UN group for 12 years that focused on stopping discrimination against women.

She said on BBC Radio 4 that she saw many people who were victims of sexual violence, including a paramedic who treated a woman who said she had been raped by four men.

Kaddari saw videos and photos of bodies in many places and is sure that rape happened.

She said that there must have been a plan to use sexual violence as a weapon of war because there are a lot of cases in a short time and in many places.

  • BREAKING: Aisha Huang handed 4-year jail term

BREAKING: Aisha Huang handed 4-year jail term

Aisha Huang, also known as En Huang, has been convicted and sentenced to four years in prison by the High Court in Accra for engaging in mining operations without a license and for unlawfully entering Ghana while prohibited from re-entry. The court, presided over by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, also imposed a fine of GHC48,000 on Aisha Huang.

The charges against Aisha Huang, brought by the Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame, stemmed from allegations that she undertook mining operations in Ghana without the necessary licensing regime. The court found her guilty on all four charges leveled against her.

The first charge accused Aisha Huang of “undertaking a mining operation without a license,” violating section 99(2)(a) of the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006, Act 703, as amended by the Minerals and Mining (Amendment) Act 2019, Act 995. The court accepted the state’s argument that she engaged in mining operations in the Ashanti Region between February 2015 and May 2017 without the required license.

The second charge, “facilitating the participation of persons engaged in a mining operation,” alleged that Aisha Huang facilitated the involvement of other individuals in mining operations without the necessary license. The state contended that between February 2015 and May 2017, she enabled several individuals to participate in mining activities in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region.

The third count focused on the “illegal employment of foreign nationals” under section 24 of the Immigration Act (2000), Act 573. The state argued that in May 2017, Aisha Huang illegally employed four Chinese nationals to work at an unauthorized mining site in the Ashanti Region.

The final charge accused Aisha Huang of “entering Ghana while prohibited from re-entry” under section 20(4) of the Immigration Act (2000), Act 573. The state asserted that she was arrested in Kumasi on September 2, 2022, and found to have re-entered Ghana despite being barred.

Aisha Huang’s case gained attention when the Attorney General took over the file in November 2022 after she was located and rearrested in Ghana years after being deported. Throughout the trial, Aisha Huang was denied bail and remained in prison custody.

Rebels claim to be occupying DRC areas abandoned by withdrawing forces

The M23 rebels are going to take back the areas that a regional force is leaving in eastern Congo.

About 300 soldiers from Kenya were the first to leave their posts in Goma, the capital of North Kivu province, early on Sunday.

About a year ago, soldiers were sent to the region because the government of DR Congo asked for help. They wanted to stop the M23 rebel group from becoming strong again.

However, the government has said that the East African force is not doing a good job and they have decided not to continue supporting it.

Kenya soldiers are now in control of Kibumba, Kibati, and other areas near Goma.

The M23 said it will take back all the areas it gave to the regional forces at the start of the peace process.

A truce that was promised last month has been ignored, and now there is more fighting.

The President of DR Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, wants to be President again. He said areas controlled by rebels might not be able to vote in December because they are not safe.

It is not known when soldiers from other countries will begin to move away from their positions.

Last year, M23 rebels gave back the areas they had taken over in North Kivu to soldiers from Burundi, Kenya, South Sudan, and Uganda.

This happened because of an agreement for peace made in discussions in Kenya and Angola.

  • Govt slaps 20% tax on Akpeteshie

Govt slaps 20% tax on Akpeteshie

Government has imposed a staggering 20% taxation on local alcoholic beverages The Independent Ghana can report.

In a scathing critique, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader, has taken aim at the government’s decision. The outspoken critic decries these measures as indicative of what he perceives as a lack of innovative economic management by the current administration.

The government’s move to impose a 20% tax on akpeteshie, a popular local alcoholic beverage, has drawn strong opposition from Dr. Forson. Expressing concern for both local producers and consumers, he condemns the decision as potentially harmful to the industry and the pockets of ordinary citizens.

In addition, Dr. Forson has raised objections to the proposed annual tax of GHC100 on all petrol and diesel vehicles, encompassing a wide range of transportation modes such as trotros, aboboyaas, okadas, taxis, commercial buses, and even ambulances. The tax, intended to apply to internal combustion engine vehicles, has faced further denunciation from Dr. Forson.

Challenging the government’s stated aim of promoting cleaner energy sources, specifically electric vehicles, Dr. Forson asserts that this might be a mere smokescreen for a more pragmatic motive of revenue generation. He accuses the government of lacking creativity in formulating effective economic policies and argues that resorting to indiscriminate taxation reflects an insatiable appetite for revenue rather than a commitment to innovative governance.

In a strongly worded statement, Dr. Forson declares, “This government, indeed, has an insatiable appetite for taxes. The Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government is imposing a 20% tax on ‘akpeteshie’—they have run out of ideas.” He adds, “Petrol and diesel vehicle owners should also expect to pay a new annual tax of GHS100 per vehicle on all petrol and diesel cars (internal combustion engine vehicles). This tax will be imposed on all trotros, aboboyaas, okadas, taxis, commercial buses, trucks, ambulances, construction and heavy-duty vehicles, water tankers, private cars, etc. Once your vehicle is powered by petrol or diesel, the government is imposing this tax on you.”

The criticisms from Dr. Forson underscore a growing debate on the balance between revenue generation and the potential impact of taxes on various sectors of the economy, as the government’s fiscal policies come under increased scrutiny.

Paris attack: Suspect’s mother ‘raised concern’ prior to assault

The mother of a man who is believed to have stabbed a German tourist to death near the Eiffel Tower in Paris had expressed worries about her son a few weeks before the incident, according to a prosecutor.

Two more people, including a man from Britain, got hurt in the attack on Saturday.

A 26-year-old man from France was arrested, and officials who investigate terrorism are looking into the case.

The French minister inside the country said the person who attacked failed to receive proper care for their mental health.

Gérald Darmanin said to BFM TV that the person who attacked had a serious mental illness. He also said that doctors had mentioned on a few occasions that the person was getting better, acting more normal, and could be released from care.

Prosecutor Jean-François Ricard said the suspect promised to support the Islamic State group (IS).

The prosecutor said that Armand R, who was born in France to Iranian parents, became a Muslim when he was 18 years old. In 2016, he was sent to jail for four years because he wanted to go to Syria and join IS.

Mr Ricard said the police were watching the suspect because they thought he might be involved in extremism. They have also arrested three people, including some of his family, for questioning.

He said that the attacker’s mother told the news that she was worried about her son’s behavior because he had become withdrawn and quiet in late October.

But, there wasn’t enough information to start a new trial, he said.

The police said the person they think did the bad thing was supposed to be getting help for mental health problems.

The person who died in the attack was a tourist from Germany who worked as a nurse.

Mr Darmanin said the person who got hurt was with his wife when someone attacked and killed him with a knife on Quai de Grenelle.

He said a taxi driver saved the wife’s life and the suspect ran away over a bridge over the River Seine.

After going to the other side of the river, he hurt two more people: a 60-year-old man from France and a 66-year-old tourist from Britain who got hit in the eye with a hammer.

The police used a Taser to stop the suspect and arrested them for planning to kill someone. They are also suspected of trying to kill someone as part of a terrorist plot.

The two hurt people got help from emergency workers and on Sunday, the Health Minister said to the French media that they were doing well.

A video posted online seemed to show the police catching the suspect with guns not too far from where the attack happened.

Mr Darmanin said the person who attacked was heard shouting “Allahu Akbar” and told police that he was upset because many Muslims are dying in Afghanistan and Palestine.

The suspect also said that France helped cause the deaths of Palestinians in Gaza.

  • Large delegations at COP28 defended by African nations

Large delegations at COP28 defended by African nations

Many African governments are explaining their choice to send a lot of people to the COP28 climate conference in Dubai, even though many people are not happy about it.

The UN’s list showed that Nigeria, Morocco, Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana, and Uganda sent the most people.

Nigeria sent 1,411 people, Morocco sent 823, and Kenya sent 765.

Officials from Nigeria and Kenya said that some of their delegates were not paid for by the government because they were representing the media, non-profit organizations, and private companies.

Both countries also said that some of the people on the list are joining in from a different location.

Nigeria is the largest country in Africa and has the biggest economy. Because it has a lot of natural resources, it is important for Nigeria to take action on climate change. That’s why they will have more delegates at a meeting than any other African country. This was said by an adviser to Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu.

Kenya’s State House spokesperson Hussein Mohammed said on a TV station that the number of people at the event was not as high as reported because it included those who signed up but didn’t actually go.

He said that the national government had only approved 51 important representatives and the other ones had been supported by different groups.

The Tanzanian government said that over 90% of its delegations were paid for by private companies.

  • Asylum plan: UK solicitors could be stationed in Rwanda

Asylum plan: UK solicitors could be stationed in Rwanda

British lawyers may go to courts in Rwanda as part of an agreement that allows the UK government to send asylum seekers to Rwanda.

It would try to solve the problems that the Supreme Court raised when it said the Rwanda plan was not allowed last month.

More information will be given on Tuesday. Home Secretary James Cleverly will go to Rwanda to sign the agreement.

It will be followed by a new law to stop the plan from being blocked in the courts again.

At the same time, the government is going to announce its plans to lower the number of people who can legally move to the country. This is because new data shows that there were a lot of people who moved to the country last year.

Starting in April 2022, some people who are seeking asylum will be sent to Rwanda to apply there.

After the Supreme Court ruling last month, government officials are hurrying to bring back the policy before spring, when they want the first flights to start.

People who are not given permission to stay in Rwanda as refugees can try to stay there for other reasons, or they can ask for protection in another safe country.

The highest court in the UK said no to the policy because it was not certain that the courts in Rwanda would follow a law called non-refoulment.

A country can’t send asylum seekers back to their home if it’s not safe for them.

After deciding, the government said it would ask for a formal agreement with Rwanda. It thought this would give better legal promises than the current deal they have.

A new agreement is almost finalized. It may involve British lawyers working in Rwandan courts to help with the Supreme Court’s worries, according to the media.

The Sunday Times said that the agreement would give Rwanda an extra £15m to hire more people to make its asylum processing system better and bigger.

The UK government has given £140m to Rwanda for the program. The first flight was supposed to happen in June 2022, but it was cancelled because of legal problems.

The Rwanda policy was made because many more people were coming to the UK illegally in small boats.

    Legal migration

The government will also announce later how they plan to decrease the number of people coming to the country legally.

Backbenchers are asking ministers to do something because official numbers showed that last year 745,000 more people migrated than was thought.

Ministers are thinking about getting rid of the list of jobs where foreign workers can be hired for less pay than usual.

Immigration Minister Robert Jenrick has said it may be a good idea to limit the number of people who can come to the UK with migrants.

Volunteers donate 7,200 Christmas gifts to Ukrainian youngsters

One hundred people gave their time to wrap 7,200 Christmas gifts for kids in Ukraine who live in a place damaged by war.

Local businesses donated gifts like toys, books, and puzzles for the second year in a row.

The “wrapathon” happened at Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham, Suffolk on Saturday.

The organizers said they will send the supplies to different parts of Ukraine, even in places where Russia’s military is in control.

Save the Children charity said that over four million kids in Ukraine still need urgent help, even though the war started almost two years ago.

Jeremy Fish, a business owner in the area, and one of the founders of the Plant and Hire Aid Alliance, organized the wrapathon. He mentioned that this year’s fundraiser was harder than the one before.

“I believe that the media is not focusing on the war in Ukraine as much, and people are getting tired of hearing about it,” he said.

“But things are still hard for the people in Ukraine. ” Actually, things are getting worse, especially now that winter is here.

Six weeks ago, Mr. Fish helped to bring 750 boxes of supplies to Ukrainian soldiers fighting on the front line in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine.

A group of soldiers was hit by a Russian missile and 19 of them died during an awards ceremony.

The group had sent flags to thank the Plant and Hire Aid Alliance for their support. The flags arrived at Mr. Fish’s house after the attack.

Mr Fish said it was very upsetting.

Maryna Porgyan was one of 100 people who helped wrap presents.

She said: “Many kids don’t have parents and many parents can’t afford to buy gifts for their kids. ”

“It’s really hard. ” There are no jobs, no money and things cost more.

Mr Fish said gifts will be sent from Ipswich next week and given to people in Ukraine by Rotary International before Christmas.
