The beautiful wedding ceremony of rapper Medikal and actress Fella Makafui was nearly marred when some friends and fans of the couple started showing their other side.

Medikal and Fella Makafui who kept dancing at their wedding to register their love for each other were shocked to see people rushing and fighting to collect money which was being sprayed on them by some members of the Arab Money Gang (AMG) crew.

To avert the situation, Medikal’s military bodyguards rushed to the scene to restore sanity.

Only those assigned to collect the cash on behalf of the couple were seen collecting the money and putting it in a suitcase.

  • Twins who graduated from KNUST dump certificates to become Samira Bawumia’s official photographers

It is interesting how people would spend years in school struggling to get certificates only to realise later that their passion is in something different from what they learnt in school.

Ghanaian twin brothers Emmanuel and Samuel Appiah Gyan graduated from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) but instead of securing jobs with their certificates, they chose to be photographers.

They started their photography career under a brand called SwagOfAfrica.

Having obtained degrees in Post-Harvest Technology and Landscape Architecture from KNUST, one would have thought that Emmanuel and Samuel Appiah Gyan would have been utilising their knowledge in the field of agriculture and environmental design respectively. However, the young men chose to venture into photography alongside blogging.

Back in school even before they graduated, the duo became popular as a result of a Twinsdntbeg brand which metamorphosed into SwagOfAfrica which is making waves globally now.

SwagOfAfrica is now the official photographer for the second lady of the Republic of Ghana, Mrs Samira Bawumia, among other top celebrities.

Emmanuel and Samuel Appiah Gyan recently represented Ghana at the NAACP Awards 2020 ceremony on 22 February 2020 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.

Well, it is better to identify your aim even a year to your death than to not figure it out at all in your whole life, so it is not entirely worthless that they towed a different line in their educational journey before finally discovering themselves.

  • Three cities shortlisted to host 2019/20 CAF Champions League final

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has shortlisted three African cities of Casablanca, Douala and Tunis to host the inaugural one-off final of the CAF Champions League.

The federations of Cameroon, Morocco and Tunisia were the three Member Associations that applied to have their cities considered for the final of Africa’s flagship club football competition.

Cameroon’s Japoma Stadium in Douala, Morocco’s Mohammed V Sports Stadium in Casablanca as well as the Olympic Stadium in Tunis were put forward by their respective federations.

The three cities were put forward within the 20 February 2020 deadline set by CAF for interested countries to host the final.

A final decision is expected to be made by the CAF Emergency Committee on 12 March 2020.

The ad hoc committee chaired by CAF 1st Vice President Constant Omari Selemani will review and evaluate the received bids before the winner is announced.

The committee will be guided by the Technical Specifications that will take into consideration facilities such as infrastructure, accommodation, transportation and medical amongst others.

In what will be a historic edition of the African Champions League, the final will be a one-off match at a neutral venue instead of the traditional two-legged tie played home and away between the two finalists.

With the eight quarter-finalists all previous champions, the current African Champions League campaign promises to be one of the most memorable to date.

Last season, the final was marred by controversy over questionable officiating in the opening game between Esperance and Wydad Casablanca – while the second leg was abandoned altogether.

Amidst the VAR controversy in the clash in Tunis that resulted in the Tunisian champions retaining their crown, it was decided by the Confederation of African Football to alter the format of the competition.

Meanwhile Morocco lots set to host the final of the continent’s second tier club competition the Confederation Cup.

The Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Stadium in Rabat was the only venue that applied to host the final of the competition.

The bid winners will host the Champions League and Confederation Cup final, which will take place on 24 and 29 February respectively.

  • Sudan’s June crackdown may have killed 241 people – Rights group

Sudanese security forces deliberately killed scores of people, possibly as many as 241, in a crackdown on a pro-democracy protesters last June, an international rights group said on Thursday.

It was the deadliest episode of a months-long protest movement that kicked off in late 2018 and led to the resignation of veteran President Omar al-Bashir in April 2019 and to civilian rule later that year.

Thousands of Sudanese protesters had camped outside the army headquarters in capital Khartoum, demanding al-Bashir’s removal and kept up their sit-in even after his departure to protest against the military rule.

On June 3, armed men in military fatigues moved in on the protest camp and dispersed thousands of demonstrators. In the ensuing days-long crackdown, many were killed and wounded.

Doctors linked to the protest movement have said at least 128 people were killed in the violence. Authorities gave a lower death toll of 87, and denied ordering the violent dispersal.

But in a scathing report titled Chaos and Fire, the US-based NGO Physicians for Human Rights said the crackdown was a “massacre” that could have claimed up to 241 lives, according to estimates.

“Sudanese security forces launched a series of planned, violent attacks against pro-democracy protesters that killed up to 241 people and injured hundreds more,” the report released on Thursday said.

    Unconscionable acts

The group said its findings were based on multiple witness testimonies, consultations with health workers, and analyses of thousands of online video footage and images of the dispersal.

“Sudanese security forces were responsible for perpetrating unconscionable acts of violence against pro-democracy demonstrators,” said the report.

Those acts included “extrajudicial killings and torture, excessive use of force, sexual and gender-based violence, and the forced disappearance of detained protesters,” it added.

Phelim Kine, the group’s research and investigation director, called the dispersal “an egregious violation of human rights”.

The group called on the United Nations member states to sanction Sudanese officials responsible for the violence.

Al Jazeera’s Hiba Morgan was in the capital when the shooting began last June.

“We were in Khartoum when the attack on the citizens happened, and we do remember hearing the gunshots opened on protesters at the sit-in,” she said.

“People ran for their lives and into buildings and hospitals and those were targeted. The report does match up to what we experienced on 3 June.”

In August, Sudan’s military and protest-movement leaders formed a civilian-majority body to rule the country for a transitional period of three years.

The new authorities set up an independent commission to investigate the events of June 3, 2019. The team has yet to release its findings.

  • Tunisia: Suicide attack targets US embassy

Two suicide bombers have blown themselves up outside the United States embassy in the Tunisian capital, killing a policeman and injuring six other people, authorities said, in the most serious attack in months.

An explosion at around midday on Friday rocked the Berges du Lac district, where the highly fortified embassy is located, causing panic among pedestrians and motorists.

“Two individuals targeted a security patrol… in the street leading to the American embassy,” the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

Photos posted on local news websites showed damaged vehicles on the road outside the embassy.

“We heard a very powerful explosion … we saw the remains of the terrorist lying on the ground after he went on the motorbike towards the police,” said Amira, a shopkeeper, told Reuters news agency.

Police taped off the area around the blast site, which was littered with debris. The US flag could be seen fluttering in the background.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

Police at the scene said the assailants drove to the area on a motorcycle and detonated their explosive devices as they were approached by officers deployed at a roundabout leading to the embassy.

The two attackers died and one officer, identified as a 52-year-old father of three, Lieutenant Taoufik Mohammed El Nissaoui, succumbed to his wounds.

Five more injured officers and a lightly wounded female civilian were in a stable state, Interior Minister Hichem Mechichi told reporters.

“It was a homemade explosive device and we are looking for those who helped make it,” he said.

Donald Blome, the US ambassador to Tunisia, said he was “outraged” by the attack, before adding that all embassy personnel were safe and accounted for.

“I would like to thank the Tunisian authorities for their immediate protection of the US Embassy today, as well as their rapid response in investigating the situation,” he said in a statement.

Armed men have targeted Tunisia repeatedly in recent years, killing scores of people.

Last summer, the ISIL (ISIS) group said it was behind three blasts in the capital, including one near the French embassy that killed a policeman and another that wounded five people during a security operation to detain a suspect.

  • ‘Love Is Blind’ couple Lauren and Cameron open up about their first year of marriage

“Love Is Blind” finished airing on Netflix on February 27, and everyone’s favorite couple, Lauren Speed and Cameron Hamilton, ended up getting married.

The show ended production in the fall of 2018, so the two have actually been married for about a year and a half. They’ve been living in Atlanta in Hamilton’s house, “our house now” he tells CNN, taking care of their adopted dog and trying to start a family. They’ve had to hide their relationship on social media so the show’s ending wouldn’t be spoiled.

“Well, it would be hard to (fake it) for a year and a half. You’re talking about blending families,” Speed tells CNN about their relationship. “Like, my father was there and crying at my wedding. My mother, Cameron’s parents. (Everyone is) happy and involved in it all. I mean, we live together. We have a dog together.”

As for growing their family, Speed adds, “Yeah, we’ve been talking about it. I think our maternal instincts are kind of kicking in.”

So, despite the unusual way they fell in love — behind the walls of a “pod,” where “Love Is Blind” participants date without ever physically seeing the other person until after they get engaged — Hamilton and Speed say their relationship is the real deal.

    Casting singles

“Love Is Blind” producers decided to base the show in Atlanta, and began looking for singles in the area before production on the show started, a representative for Netflix tells CNN.

Hamilton and Speed say a casting agent direct-messaged them on their separate Instagram accounts, asking whether they were single and whether they’d be interested in a dating show with a unique premise. They were not in each other’s social circles and had never met, but say their dating lives were dismal. They filled out an application for the show, along with the rest of the cast, took a comprehensive psychological exam, then did a number of Skype interviews with show producers.

“I think we were just open to the idea of finding love,” Hamilton says of agreeing to the show. “Of course the premise is a little crazy at first glance, but for me, I said ‘I want to keep an open mind about this. You never know.’ And here we are today. So I’m glad that I did.”

Speed says she initially thought the idea was “nuts” but after a string of bad dates, she agreed to try it out.

“Initially I was like, this is nuts, but I’m open,” she says. “You know, my dating life wasn’t going too well. It seemed like a great opportunity to possibly meet someone and date someone on something that’s deeper than just what they look like, which really appealed to me. I feel like dating nowadays is so surface, right? We don’t even know how to talk to each other.”

How they translated their relationship from pod to real life

Hamilton and Speed went from living for weeks on a soundstage built like two apartments (a men’s side and women’s side) to moving into the home Hamilton showed off on the show. They agree that taking away distractions such as phones, TV, music and the news while they were in the pods helped to secure their connection.

“It’s pretty apt to say that we were seeing each other’s souls,” Hamilton says. “The environment of the pods really helped us narrow in on each other and focus on what we were saying. … We kind of went into it prepared with questions we wanted to ask our future partner.”

Hamilton says the dates he had with Speed were just a fraction of how long the two actually hung out in the pods. He estimates their time together in the pods could actually have been more than 100 hours.

“It was very focused conversation,” Hamilton says. “I mean, none of it was forced at all, you know, we had that instant chemistry. With Lauren and I, we had many dates that just didn’t make the show for time’s sake. And, you know, we talked about everything that you could possibly talk about and we didn’t waste a minute in the pods.”

Seeing each other for the first time

    “Prince charming,” Speed says.

    “Awestruck,” Hamilton adds.

    The marriage was legal

Yes, the two are legally married, and have been since they tied the knot on the show in 2018. They say it never got weird in the real world, and their only hurdle was “figuring out all the minutiae” of their day-to-day lives.

“Things like sharing physical space with each other,” Hamilton says, adding, “but at a certain point with anything, you have to take a leap of faith with relationships. Right? And that was the case here.”

    Pet peeves

“Cam doesn’t rinse the dishes before we put something in the dishwasher and that drives me crazy,” Speed laughs.

Hamilton adds, “It drives me crazy how she loads the dishwasher, because there’s no rhyme or reason to it.”

But they’re happy, they say, doing their relationship backwards. “We got married and then it’s like we started dating after the marriage,” Hamilton says.

The two like to cook at home, go on hikes, play with their puppy, Sparks, and watch TV together.

    Lauren’s dad

Speed’s father was tough on Hamilton on the series, doubting the whole dating experiment and questioning how Hamilton would handle an interracial relationship. Speed says he’s since come around from his initial skepticism to calling Hamilton his “son.”

“My dad comes over like every weekend — we have dinner with Cam, we cook and play music,” she says. “We have a good time. We wrestle fur baby, we laugh, we watch movies. Like, it’s great, you know, good family fun that we enjoy. My dad loves him.”

    Getting recognized

Netflix has advertised “Love Is Blind” as the top-streamed series on the platform in the United States in late February. That means a bit of fame for Speed and Hamilton, who say they’ve had nothing but a positive reaction from viewers.

“People are coming up to us saying they love our story or we inspire them. It’s awesome,” Speed says. “I mean, it’s all been love, really. No negative comments or very little negative comments. We’re loving it. We love the fact that we’re making people happy cry.”

The reason given in 2017 for the use of personal cars by the president, according to the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, was that over 200 fleets of cars went missing at the Flagstaff House after the Mahama administration left office.

Without any updates on the missing cars allegation, Akufo-Addo continued to use personal cars at official functions for a long time which included a BMW 2007 model, Lexus and Mercedes Benz.

  • Recent power outages not due to financial challenges ECG Boss

The Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Kwame Agyemang Badu, has denied claims that recent power outages in the country are as a result of financial difficulties facing the energy sector.

According to him, the gas pipeline from Tema to Takoradi is currently undergoing maintenance, causing erratic power supply.

Ghanaians in the past weeks have complained about the frequent power outages and have demanded a load shedding timetable from the ECG.

Speaking to Citi News, Mr. Agyemang Badu assured that the situation will be stabilized by the end of the week.

“The power shedding that has been going on is due to some maintenance that we are doing on our pipeline from Tema to Takoradi so it is not a monetary issue. We have the number of generation companies that are willing to provide us with power but the problem is we are doing some maintenance so the power that is supposed to come from Nigeria is not coming. You cannot let power flow while doing maintenance. It has nothing to do with money. We promise the good citizens of Ghanaians that by the end of this week everything will be done and things will go back to normal,” Mr. Badu explained.

    Power supply to normalize soon

A Deputy Energy Minister, William Owuraku-Aidoo recently also stated that the erratic power supply being experienced in some parts of the country should stabilize soon.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show, Mr. Owuraku-Aidoo, said the state is “looking at just a matter of days to bring this whole problem to an end.”

The Deputy Minister had explained that challenges with an ongoing pigging exercise “is what is creating the problems that we are encountering right now.”

Pipeline pigging is a concept in pipeline maintenance that involves the use of devices known as pigs, which clean pipelines and are capable of checking pipeline condition. This process is done without necessarily interfering with the flow of product in the pipe.

Describing the encountered problems as unexpected, he noted the exercise has taken out over a 1,000 megawatts from the Tema area.

  • Coronavirus: Premier League ditches pre-match fair-play handshakes

The Premier League has announced that the pre-match handshakes between both teams and officials will not take place until further notice because of fears over the spread of coronavirus.

The measure comes the day after the government asked the league “to step up its contingency planning”.

The teams will still line up as usual but the home team will walk past the away side without shaking hands.

There have been more than 90,000 cases of the virus in 87 countries.

A statement on the Premier League’s website said: “The Premier League fair-play handshake will not take place between players and match officials from this weekend until further notice based on medical advice.

“Coronavirus is spread via droplets from the nose and mouth and can be transmitted on to the hands and passed on via a handshake.”

Premier League leaders Liverpool announced on Thursday that they would not be having mascots at Anfield.

They have also cancelled staff travelling to any high-risk countries and “reminded everyone of good hygiene practices”.

The club also said there will be “hand sanitisers and/or antibacterial handwash in all the washrooms at Anfield” as well as hygiene information posters.

Last week Newcastle manager Steve Bruce said the club had stopped their morning handshake ritual while West Ham boss David Moyes said the players would be fist bumping instead of shaking hands.

Southampton also banned players from signing autographs or taking selfies with fans.

League One club Sunderland have also told their players to not go abroad during their upcoming break.

  • Zakaria Fuseini deserves a Black Stars call up – Inter Allies coach

Inter Allies coach Tony Lokko believes Berekum Chelsea defender Zakaria Fuseini should have been handed a Black Stars invite ahead of Habib Mohammed.

According to the trainer, Fuseini have been remarkable in the ongoing Ghana Premier League and deserves a national team call up than Asante Kotoko defender Habib Mohammed.

Four local players made CK Akonnor maiden Black Stars call up for the Sudan clash. The quartet includes Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Richard Attah, AshantiGold full-back Kwadwo Amoako, Asante Kotoko central defender Habib Mohammed and Aduana Stars striker Yahaya Mohammed.

“The only local centre back defender who I believed should have been included in the squad is Zakaria Fuseini. I am surprised by his exclusion because he is someone who has a bright future and we need to nurture him.”

“He has performed very well in the ongoing league. For me, I would have preferred Zakaria Fuseini to Habib Mohammed.”

Commenting on the three goalkeepers invited for the said matches Tony Lokko said Medeama’s shot-stopper Eric Ofori-Antwi merited a Black Stars call up than Hearts of Oak’s Richard Attah.

“Although I am not a goalkeepers trainer I believe Medeama SC goalkeeper, Eric Ofori-Antwi is far far better than Hearts of Oak SC Richard Attah,” Lokko told Happy FM.

“Why am I saying so, Ofori has gone through the mill from under 20, 23 and he is also a regular with Medeama and his performance this season is top-notch.”

“So I was of the view he will get the nod ahead of Hearts of Oak’s Richard Attah.”

Akonnor on Tuesday, March 3 announced his 23-man squad for the upcoming AFCON 2021 qualifying matches against Sudan later this month.

  • Allow journalists to use non-lethal weapons for self-defense – Security Analyst

A Security Analyst is advocating for Journalists in Ghana to be trained and equipped with weapons as part of measures in addressing insecurity in the Media space.

According to Dr. Kwesi Biney who was sharing his views on the wake of threats and deaths of Journalists in their line of duty, this will go a long in ensuring that reported cases of Journalists being and attacked and to the extreme, killed in their line of duty was reduced.

He told Host of Daybreak Upper East on A1 Radio,Samuel Mbura that, in as much as the security agencies were responsible for the safety of the public, there was a deficit in the police to civilian ratio making it impossible for them to carry out their work as expected.

The Analyst therefore identified the need for the Media in Ghana which has been exposed to all kinds of attacks to be allowed to use pain-inducing weapons intended to be less likely to kill a living target for self defense.

He however observed that,Ghana has not grown to a point that side-arms or guns can be given to Journalists because of lack of regulation and the serious security threat of weapons proliferation in the country.

“You people [Journalists] have to be given non lethal equipment ,things that can be used that cannot kill but can render the opponent weak for him or her to be apprehended like ;pepper spray, shockers. There are so many devices that are non-lethal”

“Until we grow up to a certain level of our economy and development that will be able to begin arms to journalists” He said.

  • Authorities quicken 63rd independence Parade to save school children from heat

Authorities in the Kasena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region have jumped portions of the program lineup for this year’s celebrations of Ghana’s 63rd independence to avert the effect of the sun’s intense heat on school children who have paraded at the Paga Town park to take part in the celebration.

As at 9 am Friday morning, the scorching sun was already high up in the sky, generating intense heat.

Temperatures in the Northern part the country are generally not friendly at this time of the year. Temperatures go beyond 43 degrees Celsius during these times.

To, therefore, prevent the recording of heat related calamities at the district level in this year’s celebrations, authorities pushed several portions of the program lineup, including the President’s speech, to the tail end of the event.

The Master of Ceremony (MC) announced the decision said: “We are now going to take the march pass. This is because it is getting late and the sun will soon start burning. Those of you who have the program lineup will realize that we have skipped some of the activities. The President’s speech will be read after the school children have finished marching and are under the shade”.

A total of 42 schools in the district, made up of 21 Primary Schools, 16 Junior High Schools and 5 Senior High Schools are participating in this year’s independence celebration.

The district security agencies including the police, fire service and ambulance services have been positioned to take control of foreseen challenges.

  • Independence Day: How Kumasi traders spent the night at stadium to secure best spots

Some rather daring traders have shown the real business risk-taking spirit of the Ashanti region bracing the cold night to sleep in the open just to secure the best spots for business during the 63rd independence day commemoration in the regional capital Kumasi.

The traders, some of whom had packed their merchandize in sacks, others covered with tarpaulins around the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, ostensibly kept an eagle eye.

Some who could not keep the night watch laid mats in the middle of what could best be described as their conquered territories to catch some sleep disregarded the noise from vehicles and passersby.

The merchandise included packs of bottled and sachet water, drinks, confectionaries, paraphernalia, clothes and artefacts with some keeping grilling stands and cooking accoutrements for their makeshift fast food joints.

The organizers who worked all night putting final touches to the 43 thousand-seater Baba Yara Sports stadium are optimistic huge numbers will show up to give the occasion, which is the first to happen in the Region, a befitting attendance.

The independence anniversary being celebrated on the theme: “Consolidating our Gains” will be attended by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the president Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, a good representation from Parliament, Ministers and Government Appointees, the diplomatic core as well as traditional authorities.

The Parade which will be heralded by the security services, school cadets, pupils drawn from basic, second and third cycle schools as well as other notable groups, will have the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Keith Rowley, as the Special Guest.

  • Fulanis appeal to Akufo-Addo after NIA staff refuse to register them

A Fulani Community in Ghana, Tabital Pulaaku International Ghana Chapter wants the President Nana Akufo-Addo to as a matter of urgency address what they refer to them as unfair treatment meted out to their Fulani brothers in the country.

According to the group, eligible Ghanaian Fulanis are being prevented from registering for the Ghana Card by some officials of the National Identification Authority.

The General Secretary of the Tabital Pulaaku International Ghana Chapter, Yakubu Musah Barry who addressed the press said they are denied the opportunity to register for the Ghana Card and other national documents such as the birth certificate, passports among others.

“It is the aim of this press conference to get the attention of His Excellency, the President to tackle the conduct of some officials of the National Identification Authority against our Fulani brothers who happen to be citizens of this country, Ghana. Since the registration of this Ghana card begun, Ghanaian Fulanis are being denied even though they qualify to write their name for the card. They are not allowed to have an opportunity to be registered by officials of the authority on the basis that, they are not Ghanaians. On countless occasions when Fulanis show up for the registration of the card, they are denied.

These victims are not given the opportunity to initiate the processes to challenge or defend them neither are they are allowed to present their required documents to that effect. Many other Fulani people or Fulani citizens find it difficult to obtain national documents like the birth certificate, passport, among others because they are easily identified as Fulanis so, therefore, they are considered as not Ghanaians. So we, therefore, call on the President to come to our aid against this unfair treatment meted out to our people,” he said.

    Background

The Fulani Community in Ghana earlier expressed worry over alleged discrimination against Fulanis in the ongoing National Identification Card registration early in January 2020.

Yakubu Musa, the General Secretary of the Fulani Community had received complaints across the country from Fulanis who were denied an opportunity to register in the ongoing National Identification Card registration.

Yakubu Musa Bari made the comment at the installation of Ibrahim Mohammed as the new Wenchi Fulani Community Chief in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region.

Yakubu Musa Bari noted that before Ghana became independent, the Fulanis voted and have participated in every election.

“The NIA always singles out Fulanis that they are not Ghanaians and they are not supposed to register. Citizenship is by law. You just see my face and tell me I am not a Ghanaian? No. If the Chinese can be a Ghanaian, a Lebanese can be Ghanaian, a Nigerian can be a Ghanaian why not the Fulani who toiled and defended this country before it became independent?” he asked.

She says that the lady would find herself at the extreme side of life because she would beat the life out of her.

In recent times, we have seen lots of wives publicly disgracing side chics for having a relationship with their husbands.

What is incomprehensible is how these women would launch such attacks on the ladies alone when in reality, it is their husbands who should be suffering for the choices they have made which is cheating on them.

In as much as it is tempting not to do anything to a side who is sleeping with your husband, one should always have in mind that it is really not necessary as people would cheat if and when they want to.
