  • Fresh details emerge about Nigeria’s first coronavirus case

An Italian man who has been confirmed to be Nigeria’s first coronavirus case after arriving from Milan was in the country for almost two full days before being isolated, travelling through Lagos and visiting another state.

The case has prompted a scramble by authorities in Africa’s most populous country who are now trying to trace everyone who arrived on the same flight as the patient and identify the places he visited before going to the hospital.

“We have started working to identify all the contacts of the person since he entered Nigeria and even those who were with him on the aircraft,” Health Minister Osagie Ehanire told reporters on Friday in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja.

The Italian, whose country is the worst-hit in Europe by the coronavirus outbreak, arrived on February 24 on a Turkish Airlines flight that had a connection in Istanbul, Akin Abayomi, Lagos state commissioner for health, told reporters.

After spending the night in a hotel near the airport, he arrived in the neighbouring state of Ogun on February 25 at his place of work.

He stayed there until he developed a fever and body aches on the afternoon of February 26, Abayomi said.

Health practitioners with his company then contacted biosecurity authorities, who transferred him to a containment facility in Yaba, Lagos state.

“It was very astute of the medical practitioners in that facility to keep him overnight in an isolated environment,” Abayomi said.

Ehanire said the infection was confirmed on February 27 by the Virology Laboratory of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, part of the Laboratory Network of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, and that the man is now quarantined but doing well.

As well as being the first in Nigeria, the patient is the first confirmed coronavirus case in sub-Saharan Africa.

Turkish Airlines did not immediately comment on the case. There are no confirmed cases in Turkey.

The World Health Organization has said it already has experts on the ground in Nigeria, which it identifies as one of 13 “high priority” countries in Africa.

In a sign of mounting concerns in Kenya, the country temporarily suspended flights from China on Friday. Kenya has no confirmed cases of the virus.

  • REJOINDER: “Presidency begged me after ‘wrongful’ suspension on footsoldiers insult.”

My attention has been drawn to an online publication attributed to me. The said publication sought to suggest that I, Louise Carol Serwaa Donkor  had said the “presidency begged me after a wrongful suspension”.

I wish to state that I have not made such statement, so it should be disregarded.

The said publication is obviously the work of a group of people who do not believe in fair contest but crude and evil tactics. It is the work of people who believe their only means of surviving this contest is to court more disaffection for me using a past incident which should have been long forgotten.

I wish to assure party faithfuls and my supporters that I will not do anything to further aggravate the already bruised relationship we have, especially when I have learnt lessons from an unfortunate past incident.

Please remember that, some people will stop at nothing to bring others down in a political contest. So they are likely going to do more of these to try to harm my campaign, but I assure everyone that I won’t deliberately disrespect our party and its people.

  • Hohoe: Teacher trainees kick against proposed NSS reposting

Teacher trainees undertaking their national service in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region have vowed to resist efforts by the Ghana Education Service and the National Service Secretariat to repost them to adjoining communities.

The teachers say the attempt to repost them after two months of settling in the Hohoe municipality without any compensation will inconvenience them since they may have to now look for new apartments and incur extra cost in renting.

The Hohoe Municipal President of the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA), Gordon Awuku told Citi News the leadership of the Association will not allow its members to be treated unfairly.

“When you listen to GES, they have not been able to make any convincing argument over this issue. They called a meeting yesterday. When we went, the NSS director for the district introduced the subject that this is the reason why they are leaving. Because we all agreed that when you are reposting someone, it comes with challenges.

“This clearly shows that they are not prepared to carry out this [service]. And as a leader, I told them if I allow my people to be treated this way, it means they are going to suffer. How much is national service allowance to warrant them suffering like this?” he asked.

Meanwhile, the Volta Regional Director of the National Service Scheme, Ambrose Entsiwa Junior said no such thing as compensation exists for reposting under the scheme.

The scheme reserves the right to repost service personnel depending on their relevance to the user agencies and the country at large.

“These are general concerns. I am not aware of any compensation package as far as national service postings and repostings are concerned. It is important to understand that we post national service personnel based on a number of issues.”

    Background

The National Service Scheme released about 14,000 pin codes to get trainee teachers across the country to undertake a compulsory one-year national service before being employed by the government in 2018.

This new directive from the government stipulated that newly trained teachers will undertake their service after writing the Teacher Licensure Examinations.

The Director of Public Affairs at NSS, David Prah, explained that the one-year national service for teachers was mandatory by law because the teacher trainee colleges had assumed tertiary status and award diploma certificates.

    Groups disagree

But the trainee teachers were opposed to the decision.

A group calling itself Teachers and Trainees Advocacy (TTA), described the new directive as “heartbreaking” and “disrespectful.”

Hundreds of unemployed teachers also partook in a demonstration to protest the directive from the government. They refused to adhere to the order.

But later on, the agitated teachers had a change of mind on the issue.

The Minister of Education, Matthew Opoku Prempeh announced that it had reached an agreement with the teacher trainees for them to be posted as national service personnel.

According to him, about 16,000 of the trainee teachers had already registered with the National Service Secretariat.

“I met with the Coalition of Newly Trained Teachers and the Teacher Trainee Association of Ghana, and they went and met with the GES and finally signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to do the national service,” he explained.

  • Magoo blasts Martin Amidu over refusal to probe galamsey corruption

Former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Suhum, Margaret Ansei Magoo, has heavily criticised Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, for failing to investigate appointees of the Akufo-Addo administration and some executives of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) over their alleged involvement in illegal mining also known as galamsey.

Martin Amidu, a former Attorney General under the late Prof. J.E.A Mills, has declined a petition by the Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA) to investigate the alleged thievery and corruption hindering the fight against galamsey.

This comes after ASEPA, having invoked Act 959 of the Special Prosecutor Act, indicated that an audiotape circulating on social media purported to be a conversation between Environment Minister, Professor Frimpong Boateng and the Central Regional Vice-Chairman of the NPP, Ekow Ewusi, was enough evidence of corrupt acts hindering the fight against the canker that has heavily polluted river bodies in the middle and southern belt.

In his response, Mr Amidu directed ASEPA to the criminal Investigative Department to handle such allegations.

“A review of your letter of complaint, however, has led this office to the conclusion that the facts and conjectures upon which you underpin your complaints do not raise any issues of corruption and corruption-related offences as narrowly defined under section 79 of the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2017 (Act 959) to warrant an investigation by this office” the statement signed by Mr Amidu read.

But speaking on Inside Politics on Power 97.9 FM, Madam Ansei, who described the Special Prosecutor as being manipulated by “corrupt hands” in the Akufo-Addo government, bashed him for doing his country a great disservice.

“In the leaked tape, Professor Frimpong Boateng Boateng is heard saying the NPP needs money to run its affairs so they have to be engaging in galamsey to fund the party. That is the evidence ASEPA presented yet this Martin Amidu claims he does not see any act of corruption in the galamsey fight. And he had to direct them to CID. What should they go there for? This is shameful,” she added.

She wondered why Mr Amidu would be selective in pursuing matters when the corruption in the fight against galamsey is conspicuous across the country especially when names have been mentioned in connection with the disappearance of some 500 excavators and other equipment seized from illegal miners.

  • Rwandan women take up 55% of cabinet seats

Women now constitute 55 per cent of cabinet seats, up from 52 per cent. The development follows Wednesday’s cabinet reshuffle which saw eight new faces, including four women, join cabinet.

Members of cabinet have also increased from 27 to 29 following the creation of two new positions at the level of state minister.

The new cabinet line-up includes 16 women.

The constitution requires that either gender must be represented at any decision-making organ at no less than 30 per cent.

Three of the four new full ministers named Wednesday are women.

They include Valentine Uwamariya (Education), Jeannette Bayisenge (Gender and Family Promotion) and Inès Mpambara (Cabinet affairs).

Another woman appointed during Wednesday’s reshuffle is youthful Claudette Irere, who is the new state minister for Technical and Vocational Education and Training in the Ministry of Education.

Two other female ministers – Solina Nyirahabimana and Marie-Solange Kayisire – were switched to new ministerial positions.

Speaking to The New Times on Thursday, Rwanda Women’s Network founder and director, Mary Balikungeri said she was happy with the changes noting that the cabinet is composed of highly qualified and competent individuals.

She welcomed the increased representation of women at the highest level, underlining that more and more young women are coming through to assume key leadership roles across government.

“It proves that women can,” she said.

“Because they can’t appoint you to such an important role if you are not qualified. It means the younger generation has women who are able and academically qualified, and that puts us (women) in a place that we deserve.”

  • CK Akonnor, Asamoah Gyan in attendance as Kotoko beat Bechem United

Black Stars coach Charles Akonnor and former captain Asamoah Gyan attended the Ghana Premier League match between Asante Kotoko and Bechem at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday.

The 45-year-old had been touring Europe to check up and interact with some Black Stars players and scout some Ghanaian talents abroad.

The former Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko gaffer was joined at the VIP section by Asamoah Gyan and his manager Samuel Anim Addo, who is also a member of the Ghana FA Executive Committee.

  • CAS confirms receiving Palmer payment for GFA legal tussle to start

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has confirmed that it has received the full payment from disqualified presidential aspirant Wilfred Osei Kwaku (Palmer) to force his election case against Ghana FA (GFA) to go ahead.

Osei, popularly known as Palmer, paid 22,000 Swiss Francs to CAS this week on behalf of the GFA for his disqualification from federation’s presidential elections appeal case to be heard.

The Swiss-based organisation will now form the panel of judges on the case titled: CAS 2019/A/6517 Wilfred Kweku Osei v Ghana Football Association to hear the case.

The case has the got potential of ordering for a fresh Ghana FA election six months after Kurt Okraku won the polls.

The GFA refused to pay 22,000 Euros so per the rules, Palmer decided to pay both so that the hearing can go ahead which means he has now paid 44, 000 Euros which is $48,000.

Some media outfits believed to have received leaks from the GFA that Palmer might not be able to pay the amount which would have ended the litigation that challenges the legitimacy current leader of the federation Okraku.

However, CAS confirmed on Friday that it has received the full payment to allow it to form a panel to hear the case against the GFA over the decision to stop Palmer from contesting the election.

“I can confirm that the CAS Court Office has received payment by the Appellant of the Respondent’s share of advance of costs. The Parties will receive further information regarding the present proceedings in due course,” Carolin Fisher, Counsel to the CAS wrote on Friday.

This means the world’s sports court body is set to begin processes to put paid to the long-winding legal tussle that hangs around the Ghana FA presidency.

Palmer dragged the Ghana FA to CAS over his ‘unfair’ disqualification from the presidential race in October last year.

The situation has put the presidency of Kurt Okraku on the line with wide reaching implication if Palmer becomes successful.

There are two things likely to happen – CAS to throw out the case and allow the status quo to remain or order for a re-run of the election if it was deemed the plaintiff was unfairly disqualified from the race.

The ruling from CAS will put to rest months of intense anxiety involving all the principal actors.

The feuding parties – the Ghana Football Association and aspirant Wilfred Osei Kwaku have named their respective arbitrators to set the tone for the adjudication of the matter.

While the association has gone for Swiss lawyer Hendrik Willem Kesler, Osei Kwaku has hired highly-rated Australian John Didulica.

Residents of Asylum Down in Accra shook up Friday, February 28, when tonnes of garbage floated in an open drain behind the Paloma Hotel after it rained.

The tonnes of waste characterised by used plastic bottles, packs and plastic bags were captured in an amateur video floating in the storm drain at Nima that crosses the Ring Road into Assylum Down.

This happened a day after the Ghana Meteorological Agency said persons living in and around areas such as Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Weija and the Graphic Road, should prepare to experience flash floods as the rains begin to pour down.

  • Pastors warned to refer patients to health facilities for treatment

Madam Elizabeth Agyemang, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, has called on faith healers to desist from keeping people living with chronic medical conditions in their prayer camps but quickly refer them to health facilities for professional medical treatment.

She said denying such people medical attention under the pretext of healing them spiritually was not only cruel but a violation of their human rights.

Speaking at a breast cancer forum at the Kumasi Technical University, the Minister advised the perpetrators to concentrate on preaching the word of God as they allow medical professionals to do their work.

The forum, held under the theme: “The Role of Religion in Breast Cancer Control in Africa”, was to sensitize participants on the prevention, causes and treatment of the dreaded and fatal disease.

She said it was unacceptable for any faith healer or prophet to attempt to heal a cancer patient who required the urgent services of a specialist due to the dangerous and debilitating nature of the disease.

Madam Agyemang entreated cancer patients to seek professional help even if they would attend church for prayers, adding “the church is no place for cancer treatment”.

Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addai, President of Breast Care International (BCI), said breast cancer was curable if detected early yet many people saw it as a death sentence.

She said instead of seeking medical attention, many people resort to prayer camps and only showed up in the hospitals too late when the disease was almost at the terminal stage.

Dr Addai implored prophets to direct patients to hospitals and back them with prayers in order to save their lives.

She said cancer was a global disease but the rate at which people were dying in Ghana due to ignorance was alarming and urged religious leaders to lead the fight against the needless deaths.

  • Former Majority Leader cautions against coronavirus

A founder member of the New Patriotic Party, Mr Abraham Osei Aidoo, has cautioned port authorities throughout the country to tighten security at the entre-points to ward-off threats of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

The former Minister who is currently a Member of the Parliamentary Service Board and the Ghana Gas Board said although they were putting up measures, the structures were not enough to combat serious emergencies.

In a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Friday, Mr. Osei Aidoo, who is also a former Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, described the current state of unpreparedness as akin to the port beckoning the virus into Ghana.

According to him, there were many foreigners, including; Chinese, who were entering the country through the Tema Port without any meaningful screening at a time that China had admitted losing control over the viral outbreak.

The current state of affairs, he said posed danger to the lives at the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority.

“I fear for the lives of GHAPOHA workers,” Mr. Ossei Aidooh, who is credited with pioneering the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Tema, said.

Government, a couple of weeks ago, announced that it had put in place measures to ensure that people travelling into the country were scanned for the deadly corona virus before they were allowed into the country.

As part of the arrangement, temperature scans were installed at both the Kotoka International Airport and the Tema Port. However, it is well known that most people entering the country do not go through the scan procedures.

There have been reports of visiting foreigners virtually fighting state officials who demand that they go through the scanning process.

Mr. Ossei Aidoo is asking that more be done.

“We must tighten the measures to keep out the virus; probably we should think of quarantining every visitor for at least the incubation period of the virus, now that the virus is on almost every continent,” Mr. Ossei Aidooh said.

There are reports of the virus emerging in the United States of America and Iran, where about 15 deaths were recorded. There is an outbreak in Italy which has recorded over 300 cases with about 11 deaths.

Austria, Croatia, Switzerland and Algeria in Africa, have been reported to have experienced some cases of coronavirus in their jurisdictions. Spain is also battling to contain the outbreak of COVID 19 after it identified some of its citizens contracting the virus from Italy.

China has currently declared the outbreak of COVID-19 out of control and is seeking the help of the World Health Organisation to declare a state of emergency after losing thousands of its citizens. It is reported that there are about 80,000 (Eighty thousand) reported cases with about 2,700 (Two Thousand Seven Hundred) deaths so far globally.

  • Parliament approves loan facility for Keta Water supply system

The Parliament of Ghana has approved a total of €97.184 million credit facility agreement between the Government of Ghana and the Deutsche Bank, supported by the Italian Export Credit Agency to finance the expansion and rehabilitation of the Keta Water supply system.

The credit facility is made up of a Buyer Credit facility amounting to €84,417,649.82 and a commercial facility of €12.766 million.

Under the terms and conditions of the two facilities, the Buyer Credit Facility has a tenure of 13 years, 10 years repayment period, three years grace period at an interest rate of six months Euribor benchmark + 2 percent per annum.

The Commercial Facility has tenure of five years, four years repayment period, grace period of one year and a-six month Euribor + 4.9percent per annum.

Earlier, Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ofoase-Ayirebi and Minister of Information moved the motion on the floor of the House, which was seconded by Dr Mark Asibey-Yeboah, Chairman of the Finance Committee.

The objective of the project is to rehabilitate and expand the Keta Water supply system to provide access to potable water to the catchment area.

The major components of the project include; the construction of an intake facility with a capacity of 9.3 million gallons per day, construction of 7.7 million gallons conventional water treatment plant, construction of 62km transmission pipeline from Agordome to Keta via Anloga, the construction of a buster station and storage tanks.

The rest of the components are the rehabilitation and extension of the distribution network, approximately 80km of pipes varying from 100mm to 450mm, the supply of 8,000 domestic metres and spare parts as well as the rehabilitation of existing water treatment plant to its installed capacity of 78,200 3/day.

The rationale for the project is that the present Keta Water supply system of Agordome-Sogakope is old and cannot meet the current water demand of about 190,000 people within its catchment area.

The Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources caused an assessment of the Keta Water supply system.

As part of the recommendations, it was suggested that there was the need for a major rehabilitation and expansion of works to be carried out. This would include; rehabilitating the existing water system to its installed capacity and constructing new water systems to help expand production of water to meet growing demand of the catchment area up to the years 2030 and beyond.

The government in pursuit of the recommendations is undertaking the project to rehabilitate and expand the capacity of the Keta Water supply system to be able to supply water to over 422,160 people.

Known in judicial circles as Justice Clemence Honyenuga), the judge sitting on the case between the state, on the one hand; and the former CEO of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr Stephen Opuni and businessman Seidu Agongo, has been slammed for his action.

But reacting to the attacks, lawyer Ampaw said the judge did no wrong hence Ghanaians should give him a break.

According to him, it is naturally right for a traditional leader to appeal to a president for developmental projects, hence the judge should not be slammed.

He quizzed what Ghanaians would have said if he had slammed the president.

Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5fm he said: ”You see the hypocrisy. The way we politicise everything is too bad. We should look at the context when people do something and stop personalising issues all the time,” he added.

  • Review MacDans 15-year terminal 1 rent contract – Minority

The Member of Parliament for the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem Constituency in the Central Region Samuel Atta-Mills has called for a review of the contract and rent of the ground floor of Terminal 1 at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) to McDan Aviation for 15 years since January 2019.

Responding to a question on the Floor of Parliament on Wednesday, February 19, the Aviation Minister Mr AKofi Adda disclosed that ground floor of Terminal 1 at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) had been rented out to McDan Aviation for 15 years since January 2019.

He explained that all domestic flights were relocated from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 after the commissioning of the Terminal 3 to ensure efficiency in operations and passenger comfort.

The Minister further said McDan had also signed a management agreement with the United States military to provide logistics and handling services through the Terminal 1.

But Mr. Samuel Atta Mills says the Committee on Roads and Transport was not briefed on the matter hence the need for a review to be done.

To him, if the review is done and MacDan Aviation was justified to be awarded, so be it.

But if the deal was not properly done, we have to withdraw it in the interest of the state.

”If we have to modify the contract we have to, if we have to abrogate, we to do it. We need to review the contract and look at the conditions, if we need to abrogate, we abrogate,” he added.

  • MP for Kpando demands release of coup suspect, Dr Mac-Palm

Member of Parliament for Kpando constituency in the Volta Region, Della Sowah is demanding for the immediate release of Dr. Frederick Mac-Palm, Chief Executive of Citadel Hospital who was arrested by state security on allegation of plotting with others to overthrow the Akufo Addo led government.

According to her, the arrest and continued detention of Dr Mac-Palm is not only unwarranted but an abuse of his fundamental human right as enshrined in the 1992 constitution.

Dr Mac Palm was arrested together with other three suspects for allegedly plotting to overthrow President Akufo-Addo.

The security later also arrested Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Dr Benjamin Agordzo for facilitating the coup in a WhatsApp platform.

Nevertheless, lawyers for Dr Agordzo secured a bail for him after two months battle with state prosecutors in court.

This, Hon Sowah, a Deputy Ranking on Mines and Energy Committee of Parliament in a statement dated February 27, demanded for Dr Mac Palm release from custody.

The lawmaker said the suspect is a responsible family man with lot of dependents under him and would not do anything to frustrate court process.

She added that the people of Kpando felt Dr Mac Palm, their son has been badly treated and has mounted pressure on her their representative in parliament to for his release.

    Read the full Statement

    RELEASE DR. FREDERICK YAO MAC-PALM
I, Hon. Della Sowah, the MP for Kpando and the elected Representative of Dr Frederick Mac-Palm (also known in Kpando as Fo Yao), I am compelled to release this statement because my office has been inundated with petitions and cries by family members, including his aged mother Madam Adjo Bulla, his friends and the many dependants of the benevolent medical practitioner in Kpando since his arrest and unlawful detention 6 months ago.

The facts are that, on Friday 20th September, 2019, a team of government security operatives carried out an operation in Accra which led to the arrest of Dr Frederick Yao Mac-Palm, Medical Director of the Citadel Hospital and others for allegedly plotting to overthrow the President Akufo Addo government.

The following Sunday, the 22nd of September, I was at the Citadel Hospital. A large contingent of officers with dogs and equipment came to conduct a search on the premises. With the reputation of the security agencies in Ghana one would have thought that they were going to do a quick job.

Sadly after 6 months, according to the security agencies, investigations are still allegedly ongoing and Dr Mac Palm is still being held in police custody very much in contravention of the relevant laws in this country.

It would be recalled that a senior Police Officer ACP Benjamin Agordzo, who was also being held by the police in connection with the same case was recently released on bail, yet Dr Mac-Palm is still being detained.

Unfortunately, the very courts that distilled the law on bail for suspects and accused persons have continued to deny Dr Mac Palm his bail; a clear infringement on his constitutionally guaranteed human rights.

The already protracted delay in investigating the case and the unwillingness of the state to grant some of the accused persons bail is seriously affecting a lot of people.

Under these circumstances therefore, I am through this medium calling on the Attorney General and the Chief Justice to as a matter of urgency grant Dr Frederick Mac-Palm bail. Indeed, Dr Mac-Palm who I am very certain will be exonerated, will continue to make himself available for investigations and for trial in court.

I wish to emphasise that I am not against the decision by the government to prosecute people who fall foul of the laws, however, as per our laws, suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction. What I am calling for is to curtail the abuse of the Fundamental Right to a bail of Dr Fo Yao Mac-Palm and others.

Let us be guided that, when the 1992 Constitution demands the rule of law, it means the rule of law in all matters and not to some minus others.

    SIGNED:
    Hon. Della Sowah

    MP, Kpando

  • Refs brutalised in FA Cup game in Kintampo

The MTN FA Cup match played between Kintampo Top Talent FC and Sunyani-based Young Apostles at Kintampo on Sunday turned bloody when the match officials were assaulted by the fans of the home team (Kintampo Top Talent) in the full glare of security men deployed to ensure safety.

About four police officers deployed for the match to ensure security left the poor match officials to their fate as they endured severe beatings from the aggrieved home fans of Kintampo Top Talent.

The centre referee, Richmond Adjei and his assistant Emmanuel Dei were brutalised with slaps and pelted with objects including stones resulting in severe injuries on their bodies.

They suffered the ordeal from their attackers for being resolute and fair in their decisions on the field of play. The two teams failed to score and when the penalties were invoked, the home side lost 4-5, much to the chagrin of their supporters resulting in the abuse and attack on the match officials.

Times Sports observations showed that poor security on the match venue aided the hooligans to take the law into their own hands because out of the 10 police officers expected to ensure security at the place, only four showed up, exposing the officials and players to danger at the open space Kintampo Park.

The match officials later had to seek medical attention at health facilities at Kintampo and Sunyani respectively.

The Operational Police Commander of the Kintampo Police Command, Inspector Richard Geli, who confirmed the incident to the Times Sports, said the supporters of the home team had severally complained about the performance of the referee, Richard Adjei.

Sensing danger, he quickly asked his men to rush to the field to protect the match officials after the game “and that if anything untoward happened, it did so on my blind side.”

Attempts by this reporter to get the side of the referee, proved unsuccessful as they declined to comment except to say “we have signed an undertaking not to speak to any media person.”
