Israel orders total closure of West Bank

There is a lot of stress and worry in the occupied West Bank, where around 2. 8 million Palestinians live. The Israeli army has completely shut down the area.

People who live in towns and cities are saying that the ways to get into these places have been blocked with big metal gates, heavy blocks made out of cement, and piles of dirt.

Some new places now have military checkpoints. During the day, some gas stations have had long lines of people waiting because they have run out of fuel.

“This is something we have witnessed in the past during many years of occupation,” said a tour guide in Beit Sahour who is currently unemployed.

Another person living here complained that Israel has been using a policy for many years to punish everyone because of the actions of a few groups of people.

On Sunday, the shops and businesses in the West Bank were closed because there was a general strike. The strike was a response to the military action that Israel took in the Gaza Strip, which is controlled by Hamas.

In the evening, there were people who were very angry and protesting. Last night, Israeli soldiers killed four Palestinians at the Qalandiya checkpoint in Ramallah.

“She should learn to sit down” -Netizens to Mcbrown as she steals spotlight at Dr Sarpong’s daughter’s wedding

One aspect that went unnoticed during Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong’s daughter’s wedding was the unexpected interruption by Nana Ama McBrown during the newlyweds’ private dance moment.

At the wedding reception, King Promise was delivering a performance of his latest hit, “Terminator,” dedicated to the couple, who were joyously surrounded by their friends and family, cheering them on.

Mandy and George, the newlyweds, took center stage and were visibly enjoying themselves as they partook in the ‘Terminator’ dance challenge. However, in a surprising turn of events, Nana Ama McBrown suddenly stormed onto the stage, embracing King Promise passionately and joining in the dance.

The attention and cheers from the audience quickly shifted towards McBrown, and a momentary sense of disappointment appeared on the bride’s face. The enthusiasm of the newlyweds noticeably dwindled as McBrown continued to energetically groove on the stage.

This occurrence has generated significant disapproval from netizens on social media, with many criticizing the actress for what they perceive as her recurring tendency to ‘steal the spotlight’ at events.

Brigdet Otoo questions the security at UTV after studio attack by NPP thugs

Media personality Bridget Otoo has voiced concerns regarding a recent incident where individuals claiming affiliation with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) reportedly intruded into the studios of United Television (UTV) during the “United Showbiz” program.

Bridget Otoo has raised questions regarding the security measures in place, particularly how these individuals were able to gain access to the studio while the show was in progress, causing disruption without undergoing any formal clearance process.

She is urging the management of UTV to release a public statement addressing the circumstances surrounding the intrusion by these individuals. Bridget Otoo seeks clarification on whether the management believes these individuals have any connection to the incident or not.

“So many questions. UTV needs to issue a statement to prove they didn’t know anything about this. Does UTV not have security at their station? Can anyone just walk into the UTV studio without going through any clearance? It shouldn’t be that easy to enter a TV station like that,” she wrote on her Twitter page.

Bridget Otoo continued to express her dissatisfaction, directing criticism at the Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah. She condemned him for not issuing an apology to the Ghanaian public in the wake of the party’s alleged involvement in the intrusion of thugs into UTV’s premises.

“Yes, I watched Richard Ahiagbah squirm about NPP’s involvement in the attempted attack on A-Plus on live TV. He didn’t apologize. He just said the party didn’t sanction it. Of course, that’s what any communicator would say, but they would pat the boys for a job well done!” she said.

Bridget Otoo’s comments came in response to a distressing incident involving alleged individuals with ties to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), who forcibly entered the studios of UTV and abruptly halted the live broadcast of the “United Showbiz” program.

Approximately seven minutes into the live broadcast, there was audible commotion in the background while host Mzgee was introducing the show. The host’s evident confusion was followed by an extended interruption in the production, eventually leading to the program being taken off the air.

Following the abrupt interruption, multiple reports emerged indicating that the disruption of the show had been caused by a group of men who had entered the studios with hostile intentions.

These reports suggested that the agitated individuals had specifically entered the studio with the intention of confronting Kwame A Plus, a regular panel member on the show.

Subsequent videos circulating on social media depicted a chaotic scene within the UTV studio, with several men vocally demanding to see A Plus.

“We are waiting for A Plus today… A Plus has to explain to us why he tore our paper from the NPP party. We are here, we are waiting for A Plus. We are protecting our party property,” one of the men is heard shouting in the studio.

“It has not been a smooth journey because of course I am a human and my husband is also human. We are trying our best,” she added.

Asantewaa also labelled as ‘false and ridiculous’ several other rumours she has heard about herself.

The government of Niger had to reduce its budget by 40% because of sanctions and the halt of financial help following the coup on July 26th. People are worried that the punishments might make Niger’s economy even worse. Niger is one of the poorest countries in the world.

Two minutes before final whistle, Kudus’ goal lifted his English Premier League (EPL) side out of a 2:1 constrain by visitor Newcastle United, October 8, 2023.

While the point-salvaging goal from outside the box is the star midfielder’s EPL debut, it is his third since joining the Hammers – he has given the team two Europa goals already.

In the stands, the Reggae/Danchell and Highlife/Afrobeats superstar Stonebwoy, born Livingstone Etse Satekla, could not control his excitement. He paced the floor he was on – jumping at times – arousing paparazzi interest as he repeatedly shouted: “That’s my boy!”

Like Kudus, he also crossed his forearms forming the Wakanda Forever salute in jubilee. Subsequently, Stonebwoy, alias 1Gad, received handshakes from fellow spectators.

A video on social media capturing the moment has since gone viral, with Stonebwoy’s support for his compatriot highlighted and

Prior to Kudus’s five-year contract with West Ham United, where he has been affectionately nicknamed Kuku, he had a notable stint with Ajax Amsterdam, showcasing his talents on the football field.

Leading up to the Sunday match at London Stadium, West Ham United’s official X account shared a video featuring Stonebwoy’s presence at the stadium. In the video, the artist made a bold prediction, foreseeing that “my boy” (referring to Kudus) would score two goals, and he anticipated a final scoreline of “3:1” in favor of West Ham United against Newcastle.

Following the thrilling and dramatic match, Stonebwoy had the opportunity to meet up with Kudus. During a live social media stream, Kudus playfully suggested that Stonebwoy’s presence had a positive impact on his performance, humorously stating that Stonebwoy “brought the goal.” In response, Stonebwoy humorously mentioned that he had come with two goals in mind and had even advised the coach to bring Kudus on early in the game. He expressed satisfaction that his predictions had come true, leading to Kudus being considered for the starting lineup in the next match.

Recently, the 23-year-old Black Stars player, who gained recognition during the 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup, shared his admiration for Stonebwoy with the media wing of West Ham United. He revealed that Stonebwoy is his favorite music artist, going as far as saying that he could listen to Stonebwoy’s BET-winning album, “Life is A Journey,” for the rest of his life.

Before the release of Stonebwoy’s latest album, “5th Dimension,” the Def Jam Recordings signee paid a visit to Kudus during his time with Ajax. During the visit, Stonebwoy provided Kudus with an exclusive pre-listening session of the album, which has since gained popularity since its release on April 28, featuring hit tracks such as “Into the Future,” “Life & Money,” “Apotheke,” and “Manodzi.”

On Sunday, October 29, Stonebwoy is set to take the stage as part of his “5th Dimension World Tour” at the Electric Brixton venue, promising an exciting experience for his fans and music enthusiasts.

  • Confrontations at Rwandan Supreme Court over asylum seekers in UK

Confrontations at Rwandan Supreme Court over asylum seekers in UK

The UK Supreme Court will decide what happens to the government’s idea to send certain people who are seeking asylum to Rwanda. It is not definite what will happen, and the whole situation is more complicated than what you see in the news titles.

    Let’s start again.

The UK is part of a legal agreement called the Refugee Convention. This means that it has agreed to look into the situations of people who come to the country asking for shelter.

It is very hard to ask for protection in the UK, so more and more people are coming with the assistance of smugglers.

The government believes that these individuals, who could have sought protection in France or other European Union countries, should not come to the UK.

So, a while ago, the UK government made an agreement with Rwanda. The agreement said that Rwanda would help the UK by taking in some of the people who are seeking asylum there. So far, they have paid £140m to do this. It is still not clear how many more they will need to pay, even if the plan starts working.

In 2022, the Home Secretary at the time, Priti Patel, said that 47 migrants who had crossed the English Channel could be sent on the first airplane. The number decreased to only seven before the planned departure date of June 14th.

But the lawyers representing the migrants requested the High Court to halt the flight before a complete legal challenge is made against the Rwanda plan.

The judge said the flight could go before the plan was reviewed, and other judges agreed with his decision.

However, just as the plane was getting ready to leave, a judge in Strasbourg, at the European Court of Human Rights, stopped them from taking off.

It means that British judges need time to carefully evaluate the policy, and that’s exactly what they have been doing all this time.

“Media caption” means the accompanying text or description that provides information about a media item such as a video or image.

A deflated boat found in the English Channel and taken by the UK Border Force.

What information do we have about people seeking asylum.

The Supreme Court judges are not thinking about the good points of the ten separate cases – but each of them have very different stories to tell.

Three men left Syria because they didn’t want to join the military during the ongoing chaos of the civil war.

One person left five years ago and came to the UK after staying in Turkey for a little while because other members of his family had already moved here.

There is a man from Iran who claims that he was shot by the police because he supported a political campaign against the government.

Legal documents reveal that one of the individuals, originally from Iraq, became very scared for his safety when he found his spouse in bed with the bodyguard of a high-ranking intelligence leader.

There is a person named HTN, and he is from Vietnam. Documents indicate that he traveled to Europe because he was in debt and receiving threats that put his life in danger.

He went to Ukraine, but there was a war, so he had to leave and come to the UK.

Another man from Iran, who is involved in the case, told British officials that he had received asylum protection in Greece two years ago. But he and his son first left, tried again in Germany, and only after that came to the UK.

No matter what you think about the reasons for those cases, the High Court decided that the men were not given an opportunity to present their side of the story before they were added to the Rwanda list.

So, in simple terms, the court decided in December that the Rwanda plan was legal. However, at that time, the home secretary did not have anyone to send there.

After that, the case went to the Court of Appeal – and that’s when things became more difficult for the government.

In late June, a decision was made by two judges to one that there were many issues with Rwanda’s asylum system. This meant that asylum seekers could be sent back to the country they had initially fled from.

If that happens, the UK will break the international rule against endangering people with torture. This rule is part of the European Convention on Human Rights.

The only judge who disagreed was the person who was in charge at the time. They believed that the danger was not likely to happen.

    What is happening currently.

The Supreme Court’s main job is to decide who is correct when it comes to the legal criteria for evaluating Rwanda’s asylum system and the possibility of torture.

If the Supreme Court says the Court of Appeal is right, then the Rwanda plan, as it is now, will not happen.

This decision could have consequences for future agreements to send people to other countries, depending on the situation.

What if the government is victorious.

In theory, it only takes 12 days for ministers to arrange a flight to Rwanda.

In reality, it could take a much longer time.

In this situation, people who get a ticket could have a chance of taking their case to the European Court of Human Rights.

Is it ready to get involved again.

The Strasbourg court got involved last year because someone complained that British judges did not have enough time to review the plan properly.

If someone wants to bring a case to the court, they would need to prove that UK judges did not fully consider all the human rights matters, even after discussing the matter for 16 months in court.

But what if Strasbourg tried to prevent a flight again. The person in charge of the country’s internal affairs could have another strategy to use.

She now has a new power that has not been tested yet. This power is due to a new law called the Illegal Migration Act that was recently passed. With this power, she can choose to ignore a temporary order from the ECtHR.

But you know what. Trying to use it could lead to new challenges.

Many Mauritanians stuck in Bethlehem due to fighting

Following the most recent fighting between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas, dozens of Mauritian pilgrims are stuck in Bethlehem, according to the foreign ministry.

The group has 36 members, the most of them are from the St. Helen Catholic parish in Curepipe’s second-largest city.

The parishioners are doing well, according to Father Gérard Mongelard, who is travelling with them. They are currently residing in a hotel in Bethlehem.

They had a flight scheduled for Sunday night to Turkey, from where they were to make their way back home.

However, a lot of airlines cancelled travel after Hamas launched an attack on Israel.

  • Korle-Bu hospital to receive govt support for GHS 4m renal centre debt

Korle-Bu hospital to receive govt support for GHS 4m renal centre debt

The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital’s Renal Centre is expecting to clear its four million cedis debt soon with the help of the government, according to the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah.

He said that the debt was caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, which affected the timely payment of the centre’s main sponsor, First Sky Group. The group covers about 80% of the cost of renal dialysis for patients at Korle-Bu.

He added that the cedis lost its value against foreign currencies during the pandemic, which increased the gap between the amount paid by the group and the actual cost of the renal supplies.

He clarified that the rapid depreciation of the cedi following the pandemic exacerbated the situation, resulting in a deficit of over four million cedis, even though the First Sky Group eventually settled the arrears.

Explaining in a media engagement, he said, this is a historical debt. Before we got to this point, the supplier had started withholding supplies of the renal consumables because of this outstanding debt. Now, how did we get this debt?

“This debt had arisen during the COVID period because of the financial crunch. of course, our main benefactor had some challenges in meeting the payments, although he did his best, and we really acknowledge that. We cannot blame him for that; this was something that was beyond him.

“So because of that delay in payment, the commitment has been made in cedis. So due to the fluctuation in the exchange rate, although that amount was paid, in terms of its value, in terms of the foreign exchange component, the value has significantly dropped so this meant that we still had a significant debt to settle in that regard.

“And so that is how come this 4million debt has accumulated which has resulted in the unfolding of some of these critical supplies. So this 4 million will help us settle the old debt which would enable these extra machines and equipment to be released to us to improve the service,”

He further stated that the hospital is currently in discussions with the presidency to expedite the settlement of the debt, facilitating the release of additional machines and equipment for the centre.

“We are hoping that this will be done within the next few weeks. In fact it can be done earlier but we’re still engaged in discussion. We have been asked to do some work and come back and so once we go back I will keep the people of Ghana updated as to the situation,” he said.

Nevertheless, considering the current circumstances, he pointed out that if the previous charges were upheld, the hospital would require a monthly subsidy of 961,000 cedis to ensure its smooth operation and the delivery of quality services.

“But then going forward, in terms of recovery of cost if we are to maintain- because of the number of sessions we do, we actually run about 2000 dialysis sessions every month. So looking at the current charges we’ll be running a deficit of 961,000 cedis every month if we’re to continue with the current prices,” he said.

  • US ships draw closer to Israel after Hamas attack

US ships draw closer to Israel after Hamas attack

The US is moving a big ship, other smaller ships, and planes to a place called the eastern Mediterranean. They are also giving Israel more stuff like tools and bullets.

This means that after Hamas attacked southern Israel, President Biden said it was a very bad and shocking attack that had never happened before.

A representative from US National Security said that some Americans were killed.

Israel says that over 700 people have lost their lives, and around 100 individuals have been taken against their will.

In Gaza, over 400 people were killed because of Israeli air strikes, say Palestinian officials.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said that the USS Gerald R Ford aircraft carrier, a type of ship that carries airplanes, along with a missile cruiser and four missile destroyers, are going towards that area. He said they would send fighter planes too.

The White House said it would send more help to Israel’s military soon. They want to make sure that Israel’s enemies cannot take advantage of the situation.

The US is sending a lot of troops because they are worried that the fight between Israel and Hamas could spread to other nearby areas.

Specifically, the United States is very interested in stopping Lebanon’s influential Hezbollah group from getting involved in the conflict. Iran supports and provides money and weapons to Hamas.

The President of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, has said he supports the attack by Hamas. He believes that Israel should be punished for putting the region in danger.

Hamas claimed that Iran provided them with support to carry out their attack. Their attack included using rockets, drones, and militants on paragliders. They managed to break through Israeli border fortifications around the Gaza Strip with the help of hundreds of fighters.
The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, said that there is no clear proof that Iran is directly involved, but they have been supporting the Gaza-based group for a long time.

Hamas relies on Iran’s support for its existence. We don’t have proof that Iran was responsible for this attack or involved in it yet. “But the help and assistance have been evident for many years,” he said during an interview on US television.

During a meeting at the United Nations Security Council, Iran said that they were not involved in the attack on Israel.
Many people are still unaccounted for. One of the people involved was a 23-year-old man named Hersh Golberg-Polin from America and Israel. He was at a music festival in the desert when a group of violent people attacked.

His mom and dad told the Jerusalem Post that they got two messages from him. One said “I love you” and the other said “I’m sorry. ”

There are now reports about other North Americans who are also missing, such as peace activist Vivian Silver.

A Canadian friend of a 75-year-old woman named Ms Silver said that she called her sister on Saturday morning. She told her sister that Palestinian militants were knocking on her door.

“He said there was a lot of noise and shouting, Vivian was fighting, and then the phone suddenly turned off. ”

Israel’s ambassador to the US, Michael Herzog, said to CBS News that he knows Americans were among the soldiers and civilians who were taken away in southern Israel, but he doesn’t know more information about it.

The United States gives a lot of money to Israel every year to help with their military. Israel is a very good friend of the United States. Since World War Two, Israel has received the most foreign aid from the United States.

The UN Security Council is going to have a meeting in New York soon to talk about the fighting happening in Israel and Gaza.

  • Israel floods Gaza’s hospital with bomb strikes

Israel floods Gaza’s hospital with bomb strikes

People in Gaza were happy on Saturday morning because Hamas shot many rockets at Israel and also attacked across the border, which killed people.

The next day, things looked completely different.

After the Israelis kept firing bombs, the people stayed inside their homes. There were more explosions on Sunday.

The noise was really scary. Buildings in the Gaza Strip were covered in thick, black smoke.

The military of Israel claims to have attacked more than 1,000 places in Gaza. These targets are places like military bases, houses where Hamas leaders live, and banks that are controlled by the militant group.

On Sunday morning, Israel carried out a notable attack on the Watan Tower in Gaza. This tower is an important place where internet providers are based.
Palestinian health officials are saying that over 400 people have died in Israeli air strikes on Gaza as a form of retaliation.

Many places don’t have electricity because Israel stopped giving Gaza power. Gaza’s supplier can only give 20% of the electricity they need.

We no longer have enough food and water.

On Sunday morning, while driving through the city center of Gaza, I noticed that roads were blocked by piles of debris. Stores were not open, except for a couple of bakeries where there were lines of people waiting.

The situation in Gaza has gotten even worse because of the increase in tension or conflict, which has made the already bad humanitarian conditions even more difficult.

The hospitals that don’t have enough resources are struggling to provide healthcare to a population of over two million people. They are desperately asking for people to donate blood.

Mahmoud Shalabi, who works for a charity called Medical Aid for Palestinians, called the main hospital in Gaza a “slaughterhouse”.

He said that a lot of people were lying on the ground in the emergency department. Shalabi said that there were a lot of dead bodies in the morgue and the medical staff were overwhelmed with the large number of injured people they were getting.
Later on Sunday, people in a certain area of Gaza City got text messages from the Israeli army telling them to go to a safe place before there would be attacks.

Over 20,000 people went to United Nations locations in the area, a UN spokesperson informed the BBC.

Hamas has been in charge of Gaza for the last 17 years. They are aware of what happens when they attack Israel, so they must have been prepared for the strong response from Israel.

The group supported by Iran has clearly stated that it is ready to fight against Israel. Hamas claims that it has been secretly bringing in weapons, even though there is a blockade by Israel and Egypt, and that it has been building up its own collection of weapons.

The group has promised to keep doing what they call “counter attacks”. After a break on Saturday night, it stated that it had shot 100 rockets at the southern Israeli town of Sderot.

People who live in Gaza have different feelings about this big conflict that has never happened before. Some people think that Hamas’ rocket attacks are a reason to be happy, but many are afraid that the fighting will go on for a very long time.

Bobi Wine’s party office blocked by Ugandan security personnel

Police and military officers in Uganda have stopped people from going to the main office of the National Unity Platform (NUP). The NUP is a party led by a politician called Bobi Wine, who is against the government.

On Monday, the NUP party said that there are many soldiers at our secretariat in Kamwokya, and we are not allowed to go there.

Bobi Wine said that the police went to the party’s main office and prevented people from going in or out.

The person who used to be a musician and is now a politician said on social media that the security officers are blocking a prayer event that the NUP planned to have at its office in Kampala on Monday.

The prayers were meant for the party’s members who had died, been arrested, or gone missing.

Last week, the police took Bobi Wine to his house when he came back to Uganda from South Africa. They did this to stop him from planning a protest.

They arrested many of Bobi Wine’s supporters because they claimed that they encouraged violence and were planning a procession that was against the law.

Bobi Wine is upset with the security officers because they have blocked something on the same day that Uganda became independent.

“He said that they will shamelessly gather today to celebrate ‘independence’, even though they behave worse than the colonialists. ”

The Ghanaian international scored with a powerful half-volley in the 21st minute, leveling the score against Lorient in a thrilling 3-3 draw.

Just a minute later, Alexandre Lacazette found the net with a left-footed shot from a challenging angle, giving Lyon the lead. Lacazette then converted a penalty into the bottom right corner five minutes before halftime.

Fabio Grosso’s team had fallen behind in the 16th minute, but Nuamah’s quick response put them back on track.

NPP distances itself from UTV studio attack

The New Patriotic Party (NPP), the ruling political party, has made it unequivocally clear that it neither sanctioned nor authorized the intrusion of UTV studios by certain individuals who claimed to be affiliated with the party.

These individuals disrupted a live television show in protest against remarks made by one of the panelists during the broadcast. The swift action of the police resulted in the arrest of 16 individuals who were allegedly involved in this incident.

Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications for the NPP, asserted in an interview with Citi News that the party is committed to collaborating with law enforcement agencies to ensure that those responsible for the disruption are held accountable for their actions.

“The party did not sanction anyone to go and disrupt the United Showbiz programme as was reported. We have moved swiftly to make an apology to them [UTV], and we are going to cooperate with the police to investigate the matter. We think that the attack is unacceptable, and it’s condemnable,” he said.

In the meantime, the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has strongly condemned the attack on UTV’s studios and has called upon the Ghana Police Service (GPS) to take legal action against the assailants.

In a statement released on Sunday, the GJA expressed its concern, stating that approximately “30 hooligans attacked the studios of the Accra-based private television station,” and, although the Police successfully apprehended some of the perpetrators, others managed to evade capture.

  • NSS promises to clear owed arrears for personnel soon

NSS promises to clear owed arrears for personnel soon

The National Service Scheme (NSS) has taken steps to reassure its personnel by confirming that the allowances designated for September 2023 have been officially disbursed to the Scheme and are currently undergoing the necessary processing procedures to facilitate their prompt disbursement to the beneficiaries.

Furthermore, the NSS has extended its commitment to the personnel by ensuring that not only the allowances for the month of October but also the outstanding arrears resulting from the recent upward adjustments will be subjected to the processing protocols, with the explicit intention of facilitating disbursement shortly after the completion of the payment for the September allowances.

This response from the NSS arises as a result of concerns that have been voiced by personnel who have encountered difficulties in receiving their allowances for the month of September and are equally concerned about the outstanding arrears that relate to the period spanning from January to June 2023, which were necessitated by the recent upward revisions to their monthly allowances.

NSS encouraged its personnel in a statement issued on Sunday “to exercise restraint as the normal financial processes are being adhered to for all their well-deserved allowances to be paid.”

It further commended the patience of all service personnel in the face of the challenges they had experienced serving their country.

“Management wishes all national service personnel well as they complete their one-year mandatory national service to the state at the end of October 2023,” it added.

  • My late brother’s kids’ fees were paid with the money transferred in his name -Cecilia Dapaah tells court

My late brother’s kids’ fees were paid with the money transferred in his name -Cecilia Dapaah tells court

Former Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, has contested the Office of the Special Prosecutor‘s assertion that she received funds in her late brother’s bank account.

After complying with a court order to return seized assets due to suspicions of corruption, the OSP re-seized the funds and requested court confirmation.

In a sworn affidavit, Dapaah strongly denied any wrongdoing and challenged the claim that the seized funds were tainted. She explained that the money came from an account established to receive funeral donations for her late brother and was appropriately named “The Late Nana Akwasi Essan,” for which she was a signatory.

Furthermore, she clarified that the transferred funds were intended to cover her late brother’s children’s school fees.

“That money was being transferred from my deceased brother’s account into my account when the truth is that funds were transferred from Cal Bank from an account in the name “The Late Nana Akwasi Essan” to which I am a signatory. This account was opened with funeral donations collected by Cal Bank at my late brother’s funeral.

“The correct account name is conspicuously stated in Applicant’s Exhibit OSP18 and the Applicant could easily have ascertained the mandate on the account from Cal Bank. The funds are transferred to me for payment of the school fees of my late brother’s children,” she stated in her affidavit.

    Background

On September 11, the OSP filed a second motion to investigate funds suspected to be tainted property. This action followed the initial seizure of $590,000.00 and GHS 2,862,007 from Cecilia Dapaah’s residence on July 24, 2023, after a news report suggested that individuals had stolen $1,000,000.00 from her home.

On August 31, 2023, an Accra High Court, presided over by Justice Edward Twum, dismissed the OSP’s initial attempt to confirm the seizure of Dapaah’s assets and the freezing of her bank accounts due to suspicions of tainted property.

In response to the court’s order to return Dapaah’s assets within seven (7) days, the OSP announced on September 5, 2023, that it had complied but subsequently re-seized her properties to aid ongoing investigations. They cited reasonable grounds to believe that the cash sums remained tainted property and explained that the second seizure aimed to prevent loss, concealment, or dissipation during the ongoing investigation.

The OSP’s application was originally scheduled to be heard at the High Court on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. However, Victoria Barth, a lawyer representing Ms. Dapaah, has filed an application to expedite the hearing of the application. This request for an abridgment of time is set to be heard on Wednesday, October 11, 2023.

Disrespectful Kevin-Prince Boateng was sacked by Kwesi Appiah not the President – Asamoah Gyan

Former Ghanaian international footballer Asamoah Gyan has shed light on the events leading to the ousting of Kevin-Prince Boateng from the Ghana national team during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Gyan disclosed that Boateng’s expulsion from the team was the result of multiple incidents where Boateng openly disrespected the team’s coach, Kwesi Appiah.

Kevin-Prince Boateng, who had played a pivotal role in Ghana’s 2010 World Cup campaign in South Africa, was recalled to the national team for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. However, tensions arose during the group stage of the tournament, ultimately leading to his exclusion.

Gyan revealed in a recent interview that the final straw occurred during a training session when Boateng openly clashed with Coach Kwesi Appiah, disrespecting him with his choice of words. The incident unfolded in front of the entire team, leaving the coach with no choice but to take action.

Gyan clarified that while the players had defended Boateng behind the scenes on previous occasions, Boateng’s repeated instances of disrespecting the coach had reached a breaking point. It was this series of incidents that led to the coach’s decision to remove Boateng from the squad.

The captain of the Ghana national team during that tournament emphasized that Boateng’s expulsion was ultimately a result of the coach’s call, as he felt that Boateng’s behavior had crossed the line.

Gyan’s revelations provide additional context to the situation and shed light on the dynamics within the team during the 2014 World Cup. The clash between Boateng and Coach Appiah on the training ground marked a turning point that resulted in Boateng’s abrupt expulsion from the squad.

Pastor shot dead during service in South Africa

Reverend Pastor Dwayne Gordon met a tragic end when he was fatally shot during a service at the Eagle Christian Church in Newlands, Johannesburg. The distressing incident occurred on Friday, October 6, leaving three other individuals injured.

According to law enforcement officials, a group of approximately six unidentified men confronted a congregation in the Newlands church. The assailants opened fire, resulting in injuries to three individuals.

The live broadcast of the church service, widely circulated on social media, captures Reverend Gordon passionately delivering his sermon to the congregation moments before the suspects unleashed gunfire. The perpetrators proceeded to rob attendees of their cellphones and personal belongings before making a hasty escape from the scene.

Meanwhile, the African Christian Democratic Party has condemned the incident.

The party said for criminals, church is no longer sacred as it lost one of its Councillors, Pastor Myaka in June this year, who was gunned down while preaching in his church in Nseleni, Umhlatuze, KwaZulu-Natal.

“The greed and moral depravity of the criminals drives them into the hallowed walls of Christian worship, intent to cause as much harm as possible.

“The rise of violent crime is a dual indicator of the incapacity of SAPS and crime fighting units in South Africa to not only apprehend criminals, but also to prevent crime from occurring in the first instance. Secondly, it is an indication of the rise of moral decadence, a move away from the rule of law and an attack on the Body of Christ as a whole,” the ACDP said.

Barber sentenced to 10 years for threatening Obuasi Bitters CEO’s life

A 35-year-old barber has been sentenced to 10 years of hard labor in prison after pleading guilty to two charges: threatening to kill and robbery.

James Awuni admitted to the charges, which are in violation of Section 75 and 149(1) of the Criminal Offences Act of 1960, Act 29.

His accomplice, Kwame Copper, is currently evading arrest.

On August 6, 2023, Awuni, using a Vodafone number (0500637074), called the wife of the Chief Executive of Obuasi Bitters and falsely claimed that he had been hired by someone to assassinate her husband.

Alarmed by the threat, the woman informed her husband, who then contacted the same number for verification.

Awuni informed the complainant that he was hesitant to carry out the contract, for reasons known only to him, and demanded an amount of GHS1,200 from the complainant, a request that Mr. Amoh (the husband) complied with.

The complainant reported the incident to the Police Intelligence Directorate after sending the money for investigation. Acting on intelligence, the directorate apprehended Awuni on September 27, 2023, at his hideout in Bebu, near Kumasi, in the Ashanti region.

Prosecutor ASP Stephen Ofori informed Her Honour Vida Yeboah in court on Friday, October 6, 2023, that Awuni mentioned Kwame Copper as an accomplice.

Awuni admitted guilt to the charges of threatening to kill and robbery and promised to reimburse the complainant for the money he had received when he appeared before the court on Monday, October 2, 2023.

He refunded an amount of GH1,200 on Friday before being sentenced to 10 years in prison. He received a 2-month sentence for threatening to kill and a 10-year sentence for robbery, with the two sentences running concurrently.

Presiding Judge, Her Honour Vida Yeboah, stated that the court considered the accused’s repayment of the money before imposing the minimum prison sentence for robbery.

To support the daily activities of the home, Vice President Bawumia contributed GHC60,000 and pledged to provide a Coaster bus to facilitate their transportation needs.

Furthermore, he expressed his commitment to serve as the Patron of the Kumasi Children’s Home, underscoring his dedication to supporting its mission.

“Everyone needs some form of help, but in my opinion those with the most needs are these children in orphanages, who are here through no fault of theirs. That’s why I chose to spend my birthday with the children in this Home, as I am here in Kumasi on my birthday,” Dr Bawumia said.

“Every year I spend my birthday with the vulnerable in society, so you can be sure that if God gives me life, this is not the last time you will see me or hear from me on my birthday.”

The manager of the home, Madam Mabel Amponsah, thanked the vice president for his thoughtful act on behalf of the roughly 90 kids, some of whom had disabilities.

She said Dr Bawumia’s decision to spend his birthday with the vulnerable and abandoned children was a clear indication of his love for humanity.

“As you have shown us love and care on your special day, we pray that your dreams and desires will be met. We ask the Almighty to grant you your heart’s desires. We will continue to pray for you,” she said.

Dr. Bawumia sent bags of rice and other supplies to the Weija Leprosarium in place of his customary birthday lunch with healed lepers at his home in Accra to make sure the lepers shared in his special day.

Dr. Bawumia received prayers and blessings earlier in the day from Muslim and Christian clerics who wished him a long life and success in his endeavours to lead the New Patriotic Party and ultimately Ghana.

  • Panic and fear in Gaza as Israel retaliates

Panic and fear in Gaza as Israel retaliates

People in Gaza celebrated on Saturday morning after Hamas launched deadly cross-border operations and fired thousands of rockets into Israel.

The situation has drastically changed after a day.

People have been staying indoors following a night of nonstop Israeli shelling. All through Sunday morning, there were more explosions.

The noise has been really ominous. All around the Gaza Strip, structures have been engulfed in clouds of black smoke.

Since previous night, according to Hamas, 150 targets had been attacked. These include military installations, the residences of the militant group’s top officials, and banks controlled by Hamas.

The Watan Tower, a focal point for internet service providers in Gaza, was the target of one of this morning’s most serious Israeli strikes.

According to Hamas, more than 300 people have died in Israel’s attacks. About half of these victims are civilians, including women and children.

Many places don’t have electricity because Israel has stopped giving power to Gaza. The supplier in Gaza can only give 20% of the electricity that is needed.

Food and drink supplies have been reduced.

This morning, as I was driving through the centre of Gaza city, I noticed that roads were blocked by pieces of broken buildings. The stores were not open, except for a few bakeries where many people were waiting in line.

The situation in Gaza, which was already very bad, has become even worse because of the escalation.

The hospitals that don’t have enough supplies, and already have difficulty providing healthcare to a population of over 2 million, are urgently asking for people to donate blood.

Mahmoud Shalabi, who is in charge of a charity called Medical Aid for Palestinians in Gaza, called the city’s main hospital a place where many people are being killed.

He said that lots of people were lying on the ground in the emergency department. “Mr Shalabi said there were a lot of dead bodies in the morgue and the medical staff couldn’t handle all the injured people coming in. ”
On Sunday, the Israeli army sent text messages to residents in a certain area of Gaza City, telling them to find shelter before attacks occur. Over 20,000 individuals went to United Nations places in the area, as mentioned by a UN representative to the BBC.

Hamas has been in charge of Gaza for the last 17 years. They are aware of the outcome of attacking Israel, so they must have anticipated big strikes in response.

The group supported by Iran has stated that it is ready for a conflict with Israel. Hamas said it has been secretly bringing in weapons despite the blockades by Israel and Egypt and making its own collection of weapons.

The group has promised to keep doing what they call “counterattacks”. After a break during the night, it claimed to have shot 100 rockets towards the southern Israeli town called Sderot.

Regular people in Gaza have different feelings about this conflict, which has never happened before. Some people were happy about Hamas’ rocket attacks, but many think that the violence will go on for a very long time and that’s concerning.
