Israeli mother begs for assistance after daughter goes missing

A mom is asking for help finding her daughter, who she thinks was taken away by Palestinian fighters at a festival close to the Gaza Strip.

Shani Louk, a tourist from Germany, was at a peace festival when Hamas fighters suddenly attacked the area.

Her mom said she watched a video of Shani being “asleep in a car” after she was taken away.

Hamas has taken some Israeli people as hostages, including civilians and soldiers, according to the Israeli military.

However, the BBC has not confirmed if Shani was the person held captive in the car.

Shani’s mother showed a picture of her daughter on her phone and said in a video that Shani was taken by Palestinian Hamas along with a group of tourists in southern Israel.

She told us that they sent us a video showing our daughter unconscious in a car with Palestinians, driving around the Gaza Strip.

Can you please send us any assistance or information. Thank you a lot.

More individuals at the festival have gone missing, including a British citizen named Jake Marlowe. However, the Israeli embassy in the UK told the BBC that they are uncertain if Jake Marlowe has been kidnapped.

His mother said to Jewish News that he was working as a security worker at a festival in Kibbutz Re’im, a community in the city of Ofakim, which is close to Gaza.

Videos on social media showed an Israeli woman named Noa Argamani being taken by force and held on a motorcycle by two men.

Gili Yoskovich, who was also there, said to the BBC that she hid under a tree in a field while some people with guns were going around shooting anyone they could see.

Fighting is still happening after Israel was unexpectedly attacked by Hamas this weekend.

The Palestinian fighters fired many rockets at Israel and attacked their fighters on Saturday morning. This caused many people to die and get injured.

According to the health ministry in Gaza, which is controlled by Hamas, many people have died as a result of Israeli air strikes.

Media Commission criticizes UTV intrusion by purported NPP men

The National Media Commission strongly condemns the invasion of United Television‘s premises and studios by individuals purportedly affiliated with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the evening of Saturday, October 7, 2023.

In a statement released on Sunday, October 8, the Commission stated that it is working closely with the Ghana Police Service to prevent the situation from escalating into violence.

“The Commission is concerned about the increasing use of violence as the preferred method for addressing grievances against the media and journalists. Perpetrators of such crimes must realise that violence does not produce better journalism,” the statement signed by the NMC Executive Secretary George Sarpong said.

It further emphasized the importance of upholding journalistic integrity and condemned the resort to violence of any kind against the media.

“Our Constitution provides avenues for individuals feeling aggrieved by media coverage to seek redress through the complaint settlement mechanism of the National Media Commission,” the statement pointed out.

The NMC however highlighted the importance of fostering a peaceful environment for journalism, especially with the 2024 general elections taking place soon.

“As we enter the electioneering process, it is crucial for political actors and all Ghanaians to understand that the Ghana we envision will not be built on the foundation of violent attacks on journalists,” the NMC emphasized.

    Background

In a shocking turn of events, alleged thugs affiliated with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) stormed the studios of UTV on Saturday, October 7, 2023, abruptly halting the live broadcast of United Showbiz.

Around seven minutes into the livestreamed show, voices of unrest could be heard in the background while host MzGee was introducing the program. The host’s visible confusion was followed by an extended production break before the program was eventually taken off the air.

Numerous reports that emerged following the abrupt interruption suggest that the show was disrupted by a group of men who entered the studios with hostile intentions.

These reports indicate that the agitated individuals had entered the studio with the apparent intention of confronting Kwame Asare Obeng, also known as A Plus, who is a regular panel member on the show.

Subsequent videos shared on social media show a chaotic scene within the UTV studio, with several men calling out for A Plus.

“We are waiting for A Plus today… A Plus has to explain to us why he tore our paper from the NPP party. We are here, we are waiting for A Plus. We are protecting our party property,” one of the men is heard shouting in the studio.

In the meantime, the Ghana Police Service has taken into custody approximately 16 individuals who were involved in the invasion of UTV’s studios. Investigations into the regrettable incident have now begun.

Shooting in Egypt claims the lives of tour guide and two Israeli tourists

The Israeli government says that two Israeli tourists and their Egyptian guide were killed by gunshots in Alexandria, Egypt.

Another person from Israel was hurt in the attack that happened on Sunday morning. The ministry said that the attack was done by someone from the nearby area.

Egyptian authorities have not confirmed yet.

But according to the private Extra News TV channel, a police officer shot at a group of people who were visiting an old Roman location called Pompey’s Pillar.

The person who attacked shot his gun without any specific target. A security source said this and also mentioned that the attacker was arrested at the place of the incident.

A video shared on social media showed that after the attack, there were at least two people who appeared to be dead on the ground at an ancient site.

The government of Israel is helping the Egyptian authorities to bring back Israeli citizens to Israel quickly.

The shooting occurred one day after the militant group Hamas from Palestine attacked southern Israel in a way that had never happened before. They sent many gunmen across the border from Gaza and launched thousands of rockets.

Approximately 350 people have died in Israel, and around 313 people in Gaza have been killed in air strikes from Israel as a response.

Egypt was the first Arab country to make peace with Israel in 1979. However, the way Israel treats the Palestinians has made many Egyptians not like it.

In June, a soldier from Egypt’s police force killed three soldiers from Israel near the border of the two countries. Egypt reported that there was a shooting between their soldiers and some people involved in smuggling drugs, but Israel said it was a planned attack by terrorists.

  • Talks follow downing of armed Turkish drone by US fighter plane in Syria

Talks follow downing of armed Turkish drone by US fighter plane in Syria

The highest-ranking diplomats from the US and Turkey talked on the phone after American soldiers in Syria shot down a Turkish drone with weapons.

Washington said that the drone came too close to their soldiers on the ground in Syria, but Ankara only mentioned that the drone was lost during their operations.

During the conversation between Nato allies, Hakan Fidan informed the US that Turkey will continue to focus on Kurdish groups.

The US cooperates with Kurdish YPG forces in Syria. However, Turkey sees them as people who want to separate from their country and sees them as terrorists.

Mr Fidan informed the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, that Turkey will firmly continue its efforts to fight against terrorism in Iraq and Syria.

A spokesperson from the US State Department said that Mr. Blinken emphasized the importance of the US and Turkey working together and minimizing conflicts in their actions.

On Thursday, the US military said that they shot down a Turkish drone with a US fighter jet. The drone was armed and was flying near American soldiers in Syria. The US gave warnings before taking action.

A spokesperson for the Pentagon, Brigadier General Patrick Ryder, told reporters that American forces saw a few drones bombing an area in north-east Syria at 07:30 local time (04:30 GMT).

According to Ryder, a few of the strikes happened about 1km away from the US troops, which made them find shelter in bunkers.

Four hours later, the F-16 shot down the drone because the commanders believed it could be dangerous.

“It’s unfortunate when two countries in the NATO alliance have a situation like this,” he told the reporters.

This was the first time something like this happened between the two countries that are part of Nato.

There are around 900 American soldiers in Syria fighting against a terrorist group called Islamic State (IS).

Turkey is attacking Kurdish groups in Syria and Iraq because there was a bomb that hurt their interior ministry in Ankara.

The PKK said that a group connected to them was responsible for the bombing at the interior ministry.

The PKK is seen as a terrorist organization in Turkey, the European Union, United Kingdom, and United States.

Turkey sees the PKK and the YPG as one group. But the US has been working with the YPG, a group that is part of the US-supported Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and has been fighting against IS in Syria.

Not long after Mr Blinken and Mr Fidan talked on the phone, Turkey announced that it had started attacking Kurdish targets in northern Syria again.

The Turkish defense ministry said it attacked 15 places belonging to the Kurdish group with a lot of ammunition. These places included headquarters and shelters.

The PKK started a fight against the Turkish government in 1984, asking for their own country for the Kurdish people inside Turkey.

In the 1990s, the PKK changed its stance from wanting their own country to wanting more self-control for the Kurdish people. Over 40,000 people have passed away in the war.

There was more fighting that started again after a two-year period without fighting ended in July 2015.

The embassy said they did not know if the 26-year-old had been taken by someone against their will.

Mr Marlowe’s mother spoke to the Jewish News, a British newspaper, and said that she talked to him while the attacks were happening.

She said that he texted her at around 5. 30amHe mentioned that the signal was not good, but everything was fine. He promised to keep her updated and also told her that he loves her.

On Saturday, a surprise attack was carried out by many armed individuals from Hamas, and it is said to have resulted in the deaths of at least 300 people in Israel.

Many armed people went into the southern part of Israel. They killed both soldiers and civilians, and took a large number of hostages into Gaza.

People who were at the music event near Kibbutz Re’im, where Mr. Marlowe was working, said that some people with guns started shooting at the partygoers early in the morning.

  • Charging tenants 10% commission post-renting is criminal – Rent Control

Charging tenants 10% commission post-renting is criminal – Rent Control

The Rent Control Department has reaffirmed that charging tenants a 10% commission for agent-assisted housing searches is in violation of the Rent Law.

While the department acknowledges the legitimacy of using agents, it categorically declares the 10% fee they collect from tenants as unlawful.

During an interview on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, the department emphasized that tenants are not responsible for remitting such commissions to agents.

Emmanuel Kporsu, the Department’s Public Relations Officer, underscored the illegality of agents receiving 10% of a tenant’s rent in exchange for helping them secure accommodation.

“The law recognises that when an agent works and searches for a room for someone, the landlord is responsible for paying the agent.” Because the accommodation rented is not for you as an agent, you have no authority to charge 10%. Because the landlord requested that you bring someone to rent the room, the landlord is liable for paying you.

The landlord could have advertised so that those interested in renting the room would come. However, to save money, the landlord chooses to hire an agent. The landlord will offer you 5% after someone rents the room.

He went on to say that if the person is paying monthly, the landlord is only obligated to pay 5% of that amount for one year, not two.

The agent has no right to go back to the landlord and demand payment after a year. To emphasise this point, the commission will be 5% rather than 10%. Those that charge 10% and expect tenants to pay are in violation of the Rent Law. The landlord will pay you 5% of the tenant’s rent. As a result, an agent has no legal basis to charge both tenants and landlords 10%. It is prohibited and punished under the law.”

  • Kevin-Prince Boateng disrespected the coach several times – Asamoah Gyan reveals

Former Ghanaian international footballer Asamoah Gyan has shed light on the events leading to the ousting of Kevin-Prince Boateng from the Ghana national team during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Gyan disclosed that Boateng’s expulsion from the team was the result of multiple incidents where Boateng openly disrespected the team’s coach, Kwesi Appiah.

Kevin-Prince Boateng, who had played a pivotal role in Ghana’s 2010 World Cup campaign in South Africa, was recalled to the national team for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. However, tensions arose during the group stage of the tournament, ultimately leading to his exclusion.

Gyan revealed in a recent interview that the final straw occurred during a training session when Boateng openly clashed with Coach Kwesi Appiah, disrespecting him with his choice of words. The incident unfolded in front of the entire team, leaving the coach with no choice but to take action.

Gyan clarified that while the players had defended Boateng behind the scenes on previous occasions, Boateng’s repeated instances of disrespecting the coach had reached a breaking point. It was this series of incidents that led to the coach’s decision to remove Boateng from the squad.

The captain of the Ghana national team during that tournament emphasized that Boateng’s expulsion was ultimately a result of the coach’s call, as he felt that Boateng’s behavior had crossed the line.

Gyan’s revelations provide additional context to the situation and shed light on the dynamics within the team during the 2014 World Cup. The clash between Boateng and Coach Appiah on the training ground marked a turning point that resulted in Boateng’s abrupt expulsion from the squad.

  • Govt to pay off Korle Bu Hospital’s outstanding 4 million debt

Govt to pay off Korle Bu Hospital’s outstanding 4 million debt

Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah, CEO of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, stated that the government is willing to clear the four million cedis debt at the Renal Centre.

The debt accumulated during the Covid-19 pandemic when the First Sky Group, the largest benefactor of the center, delayed payment for covering around 80% of all renal dialysis patients at Korle-Bu.

He clarified that the rapid depreciation of the cedi following the pandemic exacerbated the situation, resulting in a deficit of over four million cedis, even though the First Sky Group eventually settled the arrears.

“This is a historical debt. Before we got to this point, the supplier had started withholding supplies of the renal consumables because of this outstanding debt. Now how did we get this debt?

“This debt had arisen because during the Covid period because of the financial crunch of course, our main benefactor had some challenges in meeting the payments although he did his best and we really acknowledge that and then we cannot blame him for that, this was something that was beyond him.

“So because of that delay in payment, the commitment has been made in cedis. So due to the fluctuation in the exchange rate, although that amount was paid, in terms of its value, in terms of the foreign exchange component, the value has significantly dropped so this meant that we still had a significant debt to settle in that regard.

“And so that is how come this 4million debt has accumulated which has resulted in the unfolding of some of these critical supplies. So this 4 million will help us settle the old debt which would enable these extra machines and equipment to be released to us to improve the service,” he explained on JoyNews’ Newsfile Saturday.

He further stated that the hospital is currently in discussions with the presidency to expedite the settlement of the debt, facilitating the release of additional machines and equipment for the center.

“We are hoping that this will be done within the next few weeks. In fact it can be done earlier but we’re still engaged in discussion. We have been asked to do some work and come back and so once we go back I will keep the people of Ghana updated as to the situation,” he said.

Nevertheless, considering the current circumstances, he pointed out that if the previous charges were upheld, the hospital would require a monthly subsidy of 961,000 cedis to ensure its smooth operation and the delivery of quality services.

“But then going forward, in terms of recovery of cost if we are to maintain- because of the number of sessions we do, we actually run about 2000 dialysis sessions every month. So looking at the current charges we’ll be running a deficit of 961,000 cedis every month if we’re to continue with the current prices,” he said.

  • Clear donated antiretroviral drugs at ports now -Minority to govt

Clear donated antiretroviral drugs at ports now -Minority to govt

The Minority in Parliament has urgently requested the government to issue necessary tax exemptions, allowing the immediate clearance of antiretroviral drugs and essential medical equipment and supplies currently held up at the country’s ports.

Their demand arises from the alleged neglect of donated containers containing HIV antiretroviral drugs since July this year at the ports, resulting in unnecessary shortages for Persons Living with HIV.

In a statement released on Friday, the minority caucus emphasized that individuals living with HIV, who rely on the Abacavir Lamivudine treatment, face an increased risk of developing resistance to this antiretroviral drug, making it ineffective against the virus.

Furthermore, the Minority cautioned that if this risk materializes, the government will require additional funding to address the HIV challenge in Ghana.

The Minority, therefore, demanded that “The Ministry of Finance as a matter of urgency issue the necessary tax exemption waivers to ensure that immediate clearance of the antiretroviral drugs and other medical equipment and consumables; implement an automated tax exemption waiver system for medical consumables and equipment to curtail needless delays in clearing such items at the port and institute reforms at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning to ensure that systemic failures that lead to needless delays in the performance of its functions are eradicated.”

The Minority underscored that it was a national emergency and if unchecked could lead to an increase in the prevalence rate of HIV in Ghana, an increase in morbidity and mortality for Persons Living with HIV, and an increase in the overall cost of HIV management in Ghana.

“The Health and well-being of Ghanaians are non-negotiable, and we urge the government to act swiftly and responsibly in addressing this crisis,” it added.

  • More than 2,000 people feared dead after powerful earthquake hit Afghanistan – Taliban government

More than 2,000 people feared dead after powerful earthquake hit Afghanistan – Taliban government

Many people may have died after a strong earthquake happened in western Afghanistan, close to Iran.

As more information is received from rural areas, the number of people who have died is expected to increase. The Taliban, a government group, believes that the death toll could be greater than 2,000.

The strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6. 3 caused a lot of destruction and damage to at least 12 villages near the city of Herat on Saturday.

There were strong tremors after the main earthquake. People who survived the event were very scared because buildings were falling down all around them.

Rescue teams worked all night to search for people who were trapped under the collapsed buildings.

Many people got hurt. In a country with very limited and insufficient medical resources, hospitals are having a difficult time treating the injured. The UN and other organizations have started quickly bringing in urgent supplies.

The earthquake happened on Saturday at around 11:00 local time (06:30 GMT). It hit about 40km (25 miles) northwest of Herat.

The communities that are suffering the most are located far away and their houses are made of mud. “In the beginning, when the earthquake happened, all the houses fell down,” said Bashir Ahmad, a resident of Herat whose family lives in one of the villages, to AFP news agency.

“He said that the people who were in the houses got buried. ” We haven’t heard anything about some families.

The Taliban minister in charge of public health is going to Herat to see how much damage has been done. The World Health Organization (WHO) stated that at least 465 homes had been completely destroyed.
Videos from Herat Central Hospital showed injured people connected to IV drips being treated outside the main building. This indicates a sudden and overwhelming need for emergency care.

Other pictures show the destruction in Injil district of Herat, where debris has blocked roads, making it difficult for rescue teams to reach the affected areas.

“The situation was really bad, and I have never experienced anything like it,” said student Idrees Arsala to AFP. He was the last person to leave his classroom safely after the earthquakes started.

The city of Herat is about 120km (75 miles) away from the border of Iran. It is known as the cultural capital of Afghanistan. About 19 million people are thought to live in the province.

Afghanistan often experiences earthquakes, especially in the Hindu Kush mountains area because it is close to where the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates meet.

Last year in June, there was a very big earthquake in the province of Paktika. It was a 5. 9 magnitude earthquake and it caused more than 1,000 people to die. It also made tens of thousands of people lose their homes and become homeless.

,Member of Parliament (MP) for Akim Oda Constituency, Alexander Akwasi Acquah has strongly refuted allegations made by fellow MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, representing Assin North, suggesting that he was pressured into endorsing Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming flagbearership contest within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Regarding the Akim Oda Central Market, Mr. Acquah clarified that the initiation of the project was not influenced by the intensification of the NPP presidential race. He pointed out that the market had long been a governmental priority and a testament to the loyalty and support of the Akim Oda constituency towards the NPP over the years.

He stated, “I have, as an MP, actively advocated for projects that contribute to the development of my constituency. The inception of the Akyem Oda Central Market predates the heightened intensity of the NPP presidential race. This market, which caters to three regions, numerous districts, and municipalities, has consistently been a governmental priority. Its monumental value is not lost on the people of Akyem Oda, and it rightfully stands as a testament to the loyalty and support our constituency has demonstrated to the NPP over several years.”

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh stated that they were very close to achieving a big win.

The worst day of violence in Israel in 50 years started early on Saturday, which was a special day for Jewish people called the Sabbath and Simchat Torah festival.

Gunmen used motorbikes, paragliders, and boats to cross the fence separating Gaza and southern Israel.

According to a spokesperson from the Israel Defense Forces, there were many militants involved, and they fired over 3,000 rockets towards different cities and towns in Israel throughout the day.

“They went to many Israeli towns and military bases and searched every house one by one,” said Lt Col Jonathan Conricus during a discussion on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Saturday night.

“They killed Israeli civilians in a cruel and heartless way inside their homes and then took additional Israeli civilians and military people to Gaza. ” “I want to discuss the group of people that include women, children, elderly individuals, and disabled individuals. ”
The health ministry of Israel has not yet said how many people died, but Israeli media says that around 300 people have been killed. Over 1,860 other people have gotten hurt.

Yesterday, Israeli security forces saved a lot of people who were being held hostage. Almost 50 of them were trapped in the dining area of a small town.

At least 10 terrorists who had seized control of the police station in the town of Sderot were killed.

On Sunday morning, the IDF informed journalists that there were still eight areas where security forces were searching each house to ensure that they were free from terrorism.

This text could be rewritten as: They include Sderot and the kibbutz of Kfar Aza, where the IDF said soldiers were working to rescue more hostages.

The IDF said that over 400 gunmen were killed and many were arrested during the fighting in Israel.

The text is saying that all people who live near the Gaza border will be asked to leave their homes within 24 hours.

Worries are increasing for a large group of Israeli soldiers and civilians, including women and children, who Lieutenant Colonel Conricus mentioned are currently being held in Gaza.

Family members of the individuals who are missing have been requested to give their personal belongings to the local police stations. This is being done in order to collect DNA samples.

Recently, a man named Moshe Or saw a video on social media where his brother Avinatan and his girlfriend Noa Argamani were being taken by militants into Gaza. Moshe Or told this to Israeli media on Saturday.

“I watched a video where Noa appeared scared and frightened,” he explained. I can’t understand what she is thinking right now. She is very scared and screaming while riding a motorcycle. Some bad people are holding onto her and not allowing her to escape.

Mr Netanyahu told Hamas that Israel blamed them for the safety of the hostages and would take strong action against anyone who hurt them even a little bit.

He also said that the Israeli army would quickly and effectively destroy Hamas’s abilities. He advised people in Gaza to leave their houses and find a safe place to stay.
The IDF said that by Sunday morning, they had attacked 426 places that belonged to Hamas. One of the places they attacked was a building owned by the head of Hamas’ intelligence department.

The tall Watan Tower in Gaza City, which housed many of the area’s internet companies, was also destroyed during the night.

Officials from the Palestinian health ministry have reported that in Gaza, 313 people have been killed, including 20 children, and 1,990 others have been injured.
The BBC’s Rushdi Abu Alouf in Gaza City says that the mood has completely shifted since Saturday morning, when many Palestinians were happily celebrating on the streets. People are hiding inside buildings because there are explosions going off and smoke going up in the air.

Israel’s security cabinet has stopped providing Gaza with electricity, fuel, and goods.

On Sunday, the IDF announced that they had attacked targets in southern Lebanon and used a drone to strike “terrorist infrastructure” in response to an attack from the Hezbollah movement. The attack happened in the disputed Shebaa Farms/Mount Dov area. Nobody got hurt or injured.

Hezbollah fired rockets and shells at three Israeli positions because they supported the Palestinian resistance. This was done even though Israel and the US warned them not to, as it could lead to a big war in the region.

If you do this again, I will bring my boys to Ghana Gas – A Plus tells Owusu Bempah

Activist and musician Kwame Asare Obeng, also known as A Plus, has made shocking allegations regarding the invasion of UTV studios by alleged thugs affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP). A Plus claims to have information suggesting that the Deputy National Communications Director of the NPP, Ernest Owusu-Bempah, was the mastermind behind the attack that disrupted the live broadcast of the United Showbiz program.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday, October 7, 2023, saw over a dozen individuals storming the UTV studio, abruptly halting the live broadcast. These individuals demanded to know the whereabouts of A Plus, indicating that they were seeking him in connection with his tearing of a letter addressed to the management of UTV, which had called for reforms to the United Showbiz program.

Following the security breach and the resumption of the program, A Plus, who was not present in the studio during the attack, shared his perspective on the incident. He stated that he had heard information suggesting that Ernest Owusu-Bempah was behind the attack and expressed hope that this allegation was untrue.

A visibly angered A Plus went on to issue a stern warning to Owusu-Bempah, indicating his readiness to respond in a more forceful manner if a similar incident were to occur in the future. He questioned the time it took Owusu-Bempah to organize the individuals involved in the attack, emphasizing that he could mobilize supporters within a matter of minutes.

A Plus conveyed a clear message, saying, “Owusu-Bempah, if you do that thing again, I will organize supporters, and I will bring them to Ghana Gas.”

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service released a statement announcing the arrest of 16 individuals in connection with the studio invasion.

Later in the evening, the Director of Communications for the NPP, Richard Ahiagbah, appeared on the United Showbiz program to apologize for the incident. He described it as an unfortunate development that was not sanctioned by the leadership of the NPP.

The allegations made by A Plus and the subsequent arrests have added a new dimension to the incident, raising questions about the involvement of political party officials in actions that disrupt media activities and freedom of expression in Ghana.

I brought 3 pickups full of boys to face NPP thugs who came to beat me – A Plus

Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has revealed that he swiftly mobilized a group of supporters in response to the invasion of UTV studios by alleged thugs affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP). A Plus, who is also an activist and musician, made this revelation following the incident that disrupted the live broadcast of the United Showbiz program on Saturday, October 7, 2023.

During the disruption, over a dozen individuals stormed the UTV studio, demanding the whereabouts of A Plus. They indicated that they were seeking him due to his role in tearing a letter addressed to the management of UTV, which had called for reforms to the United Showbiz program.

A Plus, who was not present in the studio during the attack, shared details of his response to the incident. He disclosed that he had quickly mobilized a group of supporters and brought them to UTV. He emphasized the efficiency of his response, stating that it took him less than 30 minutes to assemble his team.

In a bold message directed at the alleged instigators of the attack, A Plus warned against any future actions of a similar nature. He stated, “Owusu-Bempah, if you do that thing again, I will organize supporters, and I will bring them to Ghana Gas.”

A Plus’s swift response and mobilization of supporters have added a new dimension to the incident, underscoring the importance of protecting media activities and freedom of expression in Ghana. The incident and its aftermath have raised questions about the role of political party officials and activists in shaping the discourse surrounding media and democratic values in the country.

  • Mali under control of Islamist insurgents

Mali under control of Islamist insurgents

People who live in cities in Mali are being attacked by a group called al-Qaeda. They say that they don’t have enough food, fuel, or medicine, and the prices of things are going up quickly.

The blockades happened because there is more fighting going on between the army, who have help from Russian Wagner soldiers, and both groups of Islamist fighters and ethnic Tuareg separatist fighters.

For almost two months, a group called Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) has been attempting to completely block the historic city of Timbuktu in the north. They are stopping supplies from reaching the city.

Omar Sidi Muhammad, a journalist who lives in the city, said that before the siege, many trucks with food and goods arrived every day. However, now, nothing comes anymore.

In the past, Timbuktu received most of its supplies from Mauritania and Algeria.

Muhammad said that the cost of food coming from nearby countries had increased by two times. The prices of essential items like sugar, flour, oil, and baby formula were all impacted.

“There is not enough fuel available, and the cost of fuel has gone up by 80%. ”
There are cooking oil bottles in a little store.
The city has been attacked by rockets fired by the militants as well.

“People are scared, but they became even more scared, extremely scared, after the latest events,” he said.

“Many people had to leave because it was dangerous. ”

The United Nations believes that around 33,000 individuals have escaped or left their homes.

In 2012, a group of people called Tuareg rebels took control of Timbuktu after they rebelled against the government. However, shortly after, another group connected to al-Qaeda came and took over the city. They made strict rules based on Islamic law, such as forcing women to cover their faces completely, not allowing music, and cutting off body parts of criminals as punishment. A man and a woman were killed by throwing stones at them because they were married to other people but had a relationship with each other.

A lot of people are afraid that if JNIM does succeed in taking the city again, it will be bad.

After one year of rule by Islamic extremists, the government of Mali recaptured the city with the support of French soldiers. But the French soldiers have left the country because the army took control in 2021, and the UN’s mission to maintain peace is also leaving.

Gao, the biggest city in the north of Mali, is being blocked off by JNIM. It is about 320 km (200 miles) away from Timbuktu.

The militant group gained more power in the past week. A person who lives in the area, and wants to stay anonymous, told the BBC that the city’s electricity supply is being badly affected because there is not enough fuel.
Houses are currently receiving electricity for only one hour per day.

“The man said that people are scared because of the war. ” “He said that they are unhappy because the price of food is increasing, and he mentioned that the costs have increased by two times. ”

“Many families have moved away from the city. ”

Normally, the economy of the city relies on trade with Niger and Algeria. However, because of the actions of JNIM, many merchants have been forced to leave the city. As a result, the streets are now empty and abandoned.

    ‘Prepared for a fight’

The two cities are blocked off because different groups in Mali are quickly trying to take control of the area since the international troops left.

The United Nations said it would stop its mission in Mali and its troops would leave the country by December. This happened because Mali’s military junta refused to let them stay any longer.

This caused both government soldiers and Tuareg separatist groups to promise to take control of the force’s bases in the northern part of the country. The northern area has been under the control of the Tuareg since a peace agreement was reached in 2015.

Fighting started in August over who gets to control a UN site in the town of Ber and has become even more intense since then. JNIM has used the chaos to attack government forces.

Tuareg groups have claimed that they have recently attacked five military bases belonging to the government. They announced their goal of gaining control over the entire northern region of Mali through posts on social media. Their intention is to create a separate and self-governing state called Azawad.

At the same time, the governing military has promised to regain full control of the whole country. On Monday, they sent a big group of soldiers and vehicles towards a town called Kidal in the north. Kidal is an important place for the Tuareg people.

Col Malick Diaw, who is a senior member of the junta, recently told the temporary legislative assembly that making sure the country is safe is extremely important to us.

“We are joining forces with the army to take back our lands from savage groups of people who have been occupying them for a long time. These barbarians have no beliefs, rules, or religion, and their only goal is to harm and kill innocent individuals who just want to live peacefully. ”

Mohamed Mouloude Ramadan, who speaks for a group of Tuareg people called the CMA, told the BBC that they are prepared to prevent something and have been preparing for it for a while.

“We are preparing additional fighters for the fight. ”

    A local problem or issue

The fighting in Mali is becoming a danger for other countries in Africa’s Sahel area. The government and Tuareg rebels are asking for help from other countries.

Tuareg groups in Libya, Algeria, and Niger have expressed their support for the separatists in Mali. A rebel leader from Niger has encouraged fighters to join them in fighting on the front line.

Video: NPP ‘hitmen’ disrupts UTV live broadcast; threatens to beat A Plus

Alleged thugs reportedly affiliated with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) caused a commotion during a live broadcast of the United Showbiz program on UTV, as they threatened physical confrontation with musician and activist Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus. The incident unfolded on Saturday, October 7, 2023, raising concerns about political intimidation and freedom of expression.

Approximately seven minutes into the live show, viewers and host Mzgee were taken aback as agitated voices and disruptions filled the studio. Witnesses reported that the disruption was initiated by a group of individuals who had entered the studio with apparent hostile intentions directed towards A Plus, a regular panel member on the program.

The group, believed to be NPP supporters, reportedly entered the studio with the aim of confronting A Plus regarding his recent actions during a prior broadcast. A Plus had vocally criticized a letter addressed to UTV by the NPP leadership, in which they demanded reforms to the United Showbiz program and expressed concerns about its content.

Subsequent videos shared on social media captured the tense and chaotic atmosphere within the studio. The videos showed individuals calling out for A Plus and demanding that he provide an explanation for his actions. One of the men was heard shouting that they were “protecting party property” and waiting for A Plus.

The disruption led to an extended break in the production of the program, which was eventually taken off the air, leaving viewers stunned and concerned about the implications for freedom of expression and media independence in Ghana.

The incident follows A Plus’s public tearing of the NPP’s letter during a previous broadcast on September 30, 2023. In that episode, A Plus strongly criticized the content of the letter and its implications for media independence. He argued that such actions could undermine the constitutional provisions regarding media freedom and freedom of expression.

The NPP leadership had written to UTV expressing concerns about the program’s content, particularly the criticism directed at the government and its leaders during recent episodes. They noted an increase in disparaging comments targeting President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, which they found alarming.

The disruption of the live broadcast and the alleged intimidation tactics employed by the individuals involved have ignited a national conversation about the importance of media freedom, the role of political parties in influencing media content, and the need to safeguard democratic values and principles in Ghana.

Ken Agyapong to reconcile Alan with NPP after primaries – Lawyer

Lawyer William Kusi, Head of Communications for Kennedy Agyapong‘s campaign team in the Ashanti Region, has stated that if their candidate wins the November 4 presidential primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), he will work towards reconciling Mr. Alan Kyeremanten with the party. He also cautioned the party’s leadership to ensure a free and fair election, expressing confidence in their candidate’s victory.

According to Lawyer William Kusi, bringing back Mr Alan Kyeremanten to the party is one of their strategies to reunite the party to face John Dramani Mahama in the 2024 general elections.

“We don’t want a situation where we will challenge the election results after November 4, we don’t want to do that, we love NPP, and we want NPP to be united so we have said that when our candidate emerges as the winner, we are going to beg Alan to come back to the party to go into the election. We love NPP, we don’t want a disintegrated NPP”, he said.

He also observed that since Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten’s departure from the party, individuals who were previously openly disregarding the party’s regulations to support the establishment candidate have now become more diplomatic in their approach. Lawyer William also raised questions about the whereabouts of the electoral album for the presidential primaries.

Israel attack: PM declares Israel at war after 250 people killed in Gaza onslaught

Around 250 people were killed and 1,590 were injured in Israel when the Palestinian militant group Hamas launched its largest attack in a long time.

Many armed people from Gaza sneaked into towns in southern Israel when it was still dark outside. There were lots of rockets being shot during this time.

They captured Israeli soldiers and civilians and took them to Gaza.

Israel has attacked Gaza with multiple air strikes. According to doctors, this has caused the death of 232 people and injured 1,600.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel is in a state of war and promised that Hamas, which governs Gaza, will face a very high cost for their actions.

The military in Israel has called upon many extra soldiers and is getting ready to start an operation in Gaza.

Right now, there is still fighting happening with militants who are still in some parts of southern Israel. Many rockets are being shot at cities and towns in Israel, including Tel Aviv and Rishon Lezion, during the evening.

Israel had a really bad situation happen – Palestinian militants with weapons were running around in the southern part of the country. This started on Saturday, which is the Jewish holy day and the festival of Simchat Torah.

Many people think that many gunmen went into Israel from different places. Some people broke through the fence around Gaza and others came in by boat.

It’s not clear how they were able to get through one of the strongest borders in the world.

Videos posted on social media showed shooting happening in Israeli villages and towns, like in the town of Sderot, which is very close to Gaza, only about 1. 6km away

Some people from different communities called Israeli news stations and said that they were stuck inside their homes or hiding in safer places.

I went outside and saw many dead terrorists, innocent people, and damaged cars with bullet holes. Many people’s bodies are crowded in Sderot and along the road, and in other places too, said Shlomi, a resident of Sderot.

Ofir Liebstein, who was the leader of a local council in southern Israel, was shot and killed during a fight with armed attackers while trying to protect his community.

Videos were shown of Israelis being taken as hostages, which was a completely new and unusual situation.
The BBC knows that militants have captured many soldiers and civilians. Some people were believed to be in small Israeli towns near the border, while others were taken to Gaza.

Hamas said it caught 53 “prisoners of war” including important officers, and they are keeping them in tunnels. In the past, the Israeli military has often attacked these tunnels during conflicts with militants in Gaza.

An Israeli military spokesperson said that both soldiers and civilians had been taken by force, and some soldiers, including Colonel Jonathan Steinberg, who was leading the Nahal infantry brigade, had been killed. But he said that the reports about a high-ranking military leader being taken against their will were not true.

Videos were also shared online showing Palestinians driving Israeli military vehicles that they had taken in Gaza.
At the same time that the group entered secretly, fighters in Gaza began firing many rockets towards Israel, even reaching cities like Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

A few rockets got past Israel’s missile defense system, called Iron Dome, and caused damage to people’s homes and cars.

People who live in Tel Aviv said that they couldn’t remember a time when the streets were locked down and empty for such a long time.

“According to Gideon Levy, a writer and reporter from England, people are feeling a strong sense of surprise, shock, and fear about something that is going to happen in the future. ” “When the first rockets landed, I was still running in the park, and the noise was really loud. ”
During a meeting, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that their main goal is to remove the hostile forces that entered their land and bring back safety and peace to the towns that were attacked.

Our second goal is to make the enemy pay a high cost in the Gaza Strip. The third goal is to strengthen other areas so that no one accidentally joins this war.

Many Israeli warplanes and other aircraft are bombing Gaza because of an attack, which is causing big explosions.

The Israeli military attacked 17 locations where Hamas soldiers train and four places where they plan their activities. They called this action “Operation Iron Swords”.

Afterwards, rockets destroyed the 11-story Palestine Tower in the center of Gaza City. The tower is home to Hamas radio stations on the top floor.

The Israeli air force attacked two buildings that were being used by high-ranking members of Hamas for terrorist activities. They told the people inside to leave before the attack.

Medical aid organization Medecins Sans Frontieres has stated that two healthcare workers, specifically a nurse and an ambulance driver, lost their lives due to Israeli attacks on two hospitals in Gaza.

According to Wafa, a news agency in Palestine, 10 regular people died when a house in the Shabora area of Rafah, in the southern part of Gaza, was attacked.

When it became nighttime, the electricity company in Israel turned off the power to Gaza. The power company in Gaza stated that most of the electricity in the area, around 80%, is supplied by Israel.

There was fighting in many places in the West Bank on Saturday. Palestinian doctors said that six Palestinians were killed after they got into fights with Israeli soldiers and got shot.

Hamas leader Mohammed Deif asked all Palestinians to join their military operation.

“We have decided to stop these actions by Israel, with God’s assistance. This is so that the enemy realizes they can no longer cause destruction without facing consequences,” he stated.

Ismail Haniyeh, who leads Hamas from outside of Palestine, said that groups in Palestine want to make the violence bigger by including the West Bank and Jerusalem.

Ghazi Hamad, a person who speaks for Hamas, said in an interview with the BBC that Iran supports the attack. Iran promised to support the Palestinian fighters until Palestine and Jerusalem are free.

The President of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, who disagrees with Hamas, said that the Palestinian people have the right to protect themselves from the harmful actions of settlers and occupation soldiers.

Many countries around the world strongly disapprove of the attacks made by Hamas.

US President Joe Biden strongly criticized their actions and stated that Israel has the complete right to protect itself and its citizens.

“He said that terrorist attacks are never justified, and his administration strongly and consistently supports the security of Israel. ”

The UN Secretary General, António Guterres, expressed shock about the news that innocent people have been attacked and taken away from their houses.

The Foreign Secretary of the UK, James Cleverly, strongly condemns the terrible attacks carried out by Hamas on innocent Israeli people.

Qatar’s government said that Israel is solely to blame for the ongoing increase in violence.

  • Biden trapped in Trump’s shadow on border problem

Biden trapped in Trump’s shadow on border problem

President Joe Biden is facing a tough situation because a lot of people are coming from Mexico to the US.

Democratic leaders at the state and local level, who are supposed to be his biggest supporters before the next presidential election, are strongly criticizing the way he is dealing with immigration. His likely opponent in the 2024 Republican race, Donald Trump, is intensifying his criticisms on an issue that has been an important part of his political message for almost ten years. And fewer people are supporting Mr. Biden in this situation.

Although the voting will take place in more than a year, the increasing immigration crisis is causing problems even far away from the US-Mexico border. Republican governors have been sending newly arrived migrants to cities run by Democrats, which could negatively affect Mr. Biden’s popularity and his chances of being re-elected.

The numbers show that things are getting worse. Based on early data from the US Department of Homeland Security, around 210,000 people who didn’t have the proper documents were caught by US Border Patrol when they were trying to enter the country in September. This is the best score of the year, and it almost reaches the highest number of arrests in a month which happened at the end of 2022.

If the Biden administration believed that the border crisis was getting better and the attention of the country was shifting to other problems after making changes to government policies earlier this year, the latest rise in the situation should remove that idea.

Furthermore, the way the number of immigrants is increasing indicates that there might not be a solution to this problem anytime soon. Around 25% of the people caught crossing the border last month were from Venezuela, a country in South America. Venezuela has been going through difficult times because of its ruler, Nicolas Maduro, who has a socialist dictatorship.

The situation in Venezuela has caused a lot of people to leave their country and seek refuge in other places, including the United States. Over seven million people have already fled Venezuela, and this has led to a crisis in the region. The effects of this crisis are now becoming more noticeable in the United States.

Over the past two months, more than 150,000 Venezuelans have traveled north to the US through Central America, crossing the Darian Gap.

“People don’t abruptly leave their homes just for no reason,” said Janet Napolitano, who was in charge of protecting the country during President Obama’s time, speaking to the BBC. “They are usually in a difficult situation – very poor, without a job, experiencing lots of crime, violence, and their home countries lack basic institutions. ”

A border guard in the United States sees people coming into the country who are not from there.
On Thursday, President Biden’s team shared two new actions they will take to deal with the major rise in something. These measures have made the president vulnerable to criticism from all sides of the political spectrum. The president allowed exceptions to environmental and planning rules and provided money to construct more parts of a wall on the border between the US and Mexico.

He also said that the US would start sending Venezuelan citizens back to their country directly. This practice had been stopped before because the two countries had difficult relations.

These new rules were quickly criticized. Some people who strongly oppose immigration said the rules were not enough, while some left-wing immigration activists said they were too strict. The president’s confusing explanations made things worse. He said he still thinks walls don’t work and that Congress made him spend money on it.

The Venezuelan announcement shows that the government has changed its attitude. Before, they allowed around 500,000 Venezuelan refugees in the US to apply for work permits and not be sent back to their country for 18 months.

In an attempt to calm fears that he is not taking enough action to handle the increase in people crossing the border, while also keeping his liberal followers satisfied, he seems to be satisfying neither group. This has been a difficult problem that has occurred several times regarding border policies during Biden’s presidency.

Immigration has become a very divided topic. This is partly because of Mr Trump’s strong “build the wall” words and sometimes harsh policies while he was president. This has greatly limited Mr. Biden’s ability to handle the crises.

While President Barack Obama was able to increase the number of deportations and make the border stronger without facing backlash from liberal activists, Mr. Biden doesn’t have the same advantage. Now, every action he does regarding immigration is seen within the ongoing political battles between Mr. Trump and the Republicans, and the Democrats on the opposite side.

Now, the latest surveys show that during the argument between different political parties, the people are starting to become less supportive of the president.

In a recent poll by Marquette University, registered voters were asked to pick who they thought was doing a better job on immigration and border security: the current president or the previous one. More than half of the people (52%) said they liked Mr Trump better, while only 28% chose Mr Biden.

This is the equal biggest difference between the two candidates, along with the economy. It is opposite to subjects like abortion and climate change, where Mr Biden is clearly ahead.

The NBC News poll showed that 45% of Americans believed that Republicans were better at handling immigration, while only 27% thought Democrats were better. This is a big change from when most American people liked the Democrats during the time Trump was president.
“Caption that accompanies a media file,”

Why hasn’t Trump received money like other presidents did for a border barrier.

The ongoing alarming news from the border, along with the pressure on public services in big US cities where the migrants are going, is impacting people’s thoughts and feelings.

If the crisis doesn’t improve before the serious campaigning for the 2024 general election starts, the president will have a disadvantage in competing against his Republican opponent.

Ms Napolitano says that fixing the immigration problem will require the Biden team to work together.

“She says that it calls for diplomatic communication. ” We need to invest in other countries to reduce the reasons why people want to migrate. And it needs to have a strong and secure border, as well as effectively enforcing our immigration laws that should be changed and improved.

Ultimately, what really matters is whether or not the new immigration policies implemented by Mr. Biden are effective, rather than the criticism he may face for his actions this week. If they cannot stop the flow of migrants from Venezuela and other places, it becomes harder for Biden to get re-elected.

#OccupyJulorbiHouse demo: Ghanaians in the US protest at the Ghana Embassy in New York

On the afternoon of Saturday, October 7, 2023, a group of Ghanaians in the United States gathered at the country’s embassy in New York to stage their version of the #OccupyJulorbiHouse protest, which originated in Ghana and later spread to London and Berlin. Armed with placards, they passionately called for a turnaround in Ghana’s socioeconomic situation and the direction of governance, addressing issues such as corruption. One of the placards boldly declared, “Criminals are taking over our country.”

The #OccupyJulorbiHouse protest initially saw hundreds of young Ghanaians participating in a three-day demonstration organized by Democracy Hub, demanding that the government address economic challenges and combat corruption.

However, the first day of the protest on September 21 was marked by the illegal arrest of 49 protesters, who were held for over 12 hours before being released on bail. Despite facing heavy rains, confrontations with riot police, and blocking a major road, the protesters continued their advocacy.

The momentum of the #OccupyJulorbiHouse protest extended beyond Ghana’s borders, as Ghanaians living in the diaspora replicated the demonstration. The latest iteration occurred at the Ghanaian embassy in New York, following similar protests in London and Berlin.

Israel risks long difficult war following Hamas onslaught from Gaza

The Israeli military says that Hamas fighters from Gaza have entered Israel’s southern communities and killed around 300 people.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has informed the citizens that they are entering a war that will be lengthy and tough.

Many armed people entered southern Israel, they killed soldiers and regular people, and they took a large number of hostages into Gaza, as said by the army.

On Sunday morning, the Israeli Air Force said it was attacking important buildings and systems in Gaza.

The Israeli army attacked southern Lebanon with big guns after mortars were shot from there towards Israeli positions in the disputed Mount Dov/Shebaa Farms area.

Lebanon’s Hezbollah group said they carried out the attack to support the Palestinian resistance.

Over 300 people have died due to Israeli airstrikes in Gaza since Palestinian militants entered Israel from Gaza on Saturday morning, as confirmed by Palestinian health officials.

People living in Gaza got messages from Israel telling them to go to the city or seek safety in shelters.

The leader of Israel said in a message that they were forced into war because Hamas attacked them. They said the initial stage of the war would be over soon, as they were getting rid of most of the militants on their land. Israel will make sure its citizens are safe and succeed in their goals, he said.

The Israeli government has decided to stop providing electricity, fuel, and goods to Gaza.

Israel’s worst fear – Palestinian militants with weapons wandering around in the southern part of the country – started early on Saturday, during the Jewish day of rest and celebration known as Simchat Torah.

Gunmen broke through the fence separating Gaza from Israel. They entered Israel using motorbikes, paragliders, and by sea. The IDF spokesperson said there were hundreds of these people, and over 3,000 rockets were shot at Israel in one day.

Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Conricus said that they attacked many Israeli communities and IDF bases. They went from one house to another, searching inside.

They killed innocent Israeli people in their houses and then took more Israeli people to Gaza. I am referring to women, children, the elderly, and disabled individuals.

Disturbing videos showed Israeli people running scared from a desert festival, and women being forced into vehicles and taken away by kidnappers.

Israeli people were calling and informing the news channels that they were staying inside their houses because they were very afraid and worried about their safety. Fifteen people living in the town of Netiv HaAsara were killed by Hamas fighters.

In the town of Sderot, a person named Shlomi saw a lot of people lying on the ground along the road.

Over time, the Israeli military started to regain control over many of the southern communities. According to Israeli media, the hostages who were kept in a dining room in Kibbutz Be’er were released after 18 hours. Soon after, more updates said that soldiers had rescued people who were being held captive in the town of Ofakim. The assailants who were keeping them hostage were also killed.

US President Joe Biden said that America strongly supports Israel, which is currently being targeted by a terrorist group. Biden described the support as very strong and unwavering.

Hamas’s military group stated that they captured many more Israelis than just a few dozen, including important military leaders.

By the end of Saturday, over 1,500 people got hurt in Gaza and another 1,500 in Israel, according to officials.

The army said that if Hamas continues to use a very high level of violence, they will respond in a way that has never been seen before.

Thousands of reserve soldiers have been called up and are now getting ready to start a military operation on the ground in Gaza.

On Saturday, Israel attacked and destroyed a tall building called the Palestine Tower in the middle of Gaza City. This building had radio stations owned by Hamas on its roof.

The Israeli air force attacked buildings used by important members of Hamas for doing terrorist acts. They informed the people in the buildings to leave before the attack happened.

There was fighting in different places in the West Bank on Saturday. Palestinian doctors said that six Palestinians were killed during clashes with Israeli forces.

Hamas military leader Mohammed Deif asked all Palestinians to help with the group’s mission.

“We have decided to stop these Israeli offenses with the help of God, so that the enemy realizes they can no longer cause chaos without facing consequences,” he said.

Ismail Haniyeh, the leader who is not currently in his home country, said that Palestinian groups plan to make the fighting bigger in the West Bank and Jerusalem that is controlled by another country.

Ghazi Hamad, who speaks for Hamas, told the BBC that Iran supported the attack directly.

Mahmoud Abbas, the President of Palestine and a political opponent of Hamas, stated that the Palestinian people have the right to protect themselves from the violence caused by settlers and occupying forces.

Many countries strongly disapprove of the Hamas attacks.

The UN boss, António Guterres, said he was shocked by reports that innocent people were attacked and taken from their houses. The UK’s Foreign Secretary, James Cleverly, firmly denounced the terrible attacks by Hamas on Israeli civilians.

Saudi Arabia wants the fighting to stop right away. They have been warning about the dangers of the occupation and how the Palestinian people are being mistreated for a long time.

Korle Bu Maternity Block poses danger; becomes death trap for nursing mothers

The maternity block at Ghana’s premier Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has become a death trap for pregnant and nursing mothers due to its deteriorating condition, posing a looming danger to their safety.

Despite being in use for nearly five decades, the facility has not seen significant renovations, and hospital officials have shown little concern for the building’s critical state, endangering the lives of expectant and nursing mothers who rely on it for healthcare.

Multiple complaints, particularly from pregnant and nursing mothers, have been made about the extensive cracks and fragility of the building. These concerns have been brought to the hospital authorities, but they have consistently fallen on deaf ears. The severity of the cracks has reached a point where those visiting the facility, especially expectant mothers, fear for their safety.

The deteriorating condition of the building has led to the removal of most mosquito nets, forcing patients to bring their own nets to protect their babies from mosquito bites and other dangerous insects and reptiles that have infested the maternity block.

Furthermore, the toilets within the block are in deplorable and unsanitary conditions, making them uncomfortable for mothers to use. The toilet seats, plumbing, and drainage systems are in terrible disrepair. Additionally, many of the floor tiles in the block have been in a state of disrepair for several years, receiving no attention or maintenance.

  • Dozens feared dead after strong earthquake in Afghanistan

Dozens feared dead after strong earthquake in Afghanistan

Many people are believed to have died when a strong earthquake occurred in western Afghanistan, close to the border with Iran.

Some people think that more people have died than what has been officially reported. On Saturday, a very strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6. 3 caused a lot of destruction in at least 12 villages close to the city of Herat.

There were strong shaking that happened after an earthquake. The survivors were very scared as the buildings fell down near them.

Rescue workers worked all night to find people who were stuck under the pile of debris.

    Many people have gotten hurt.

In a country with very limited hospitals, it is difficult for them to take care of the injured patients. The UN and other groups have started to send urgent aid.

The earthquake hit an area about 40km (25 miles) away from Herat, in the north-west region. It happened at around 11:00 in the morning, according to the local time, which is 06:30 in the morning based on GMT. The earthquake occurred on Saturday.

We were at work when the building suddenly began to shake. The wall plaster started to come off and there were cracks in the walls. Some walls and parts of the building fell down, a resident named Bashir Ahmad said.

I cannot reach my family. “I feel really anxious and afraid, it was really frightening,” he said.

The public health minister of the Taliban is going to Herat to see how much damage has been caused.

A video from Herat Central Hospital showed injured people getting medical treatment outside the main building using tubes connected to their bodies. This shows that there were too many injured people needing urgent care all at once.

Other pictures display destroyed areas in Herat’s Injil district where debris is blocking the roads, making it difficult to carry out rescue operations.

“The situation was really bad, and I have never experienced anything like it,” student Idrees Arsala told AFP. He was the last person to leave his classroom safely when the earthquakes started.

Herat is a city in Afghanistan that is known for its culture and is found 120km (or 75 miles) to the east of the Iranian border. It is thought that around 1. 9 million people live in the province.

Afghanistan often experiences earthquakes, especially in the Hindu Kush mountain range. This happens because it is located close to where the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates meet.

Last year in June, the province of Paktika experienced a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 5. 9The earthquake caused over 1,000 deaths and many people lost their homes, leaving them without shelter.

  • US pressuring Russia ‘towards using’ nuclear weapons – Belarus leader

US pressuring Russia ‘towards using’ nuclear weapons – Belarus leader

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on Friday that by giving weapons to Ukraine, the United States is causing Russia to consider using nuclear weapons.

I think Americans are making Russians consider using a very scary weapon. They give weapons to Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelensky and his group of soldiers, and also give them missiles that can be shot from far away. Even missiles that can go as far as 300 km (186 miles),” Lukashenko said while visiting a military base in the Brest area.

Lukashenko said that if a missile hit Russia, they would have to retaliate.

If someone attacks Russia very far inside their territory, the response will be huge. “If that’s the case, why do we even need these weapons. ” Lukashenko asked

He thinks that if tensions between the countries get worse, Russia might threaten to use nuclear weapons.

He said that Americans felt safe because they were far away from any potential danger.

Lukashenko talked about this after Putin said it might be possible to cancel a treaty that stops countries from doing nuclear tests.

The day after Putin talked, Russia’s State Duma Speaker, Vyacheslav Volodin, said the State Duma Council will definitely talk about canceling their approval of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty at their next meeting.

Lukashenko also talked about the unsure future of the help that US Congress is giving to Ukraine. He said that this is a sign for Ukraine to move quickly, increase their counterattack, and send more young men to fight.

You can see it in the media a lot these days. They say Zelensky is being criticized for not moving quickly enough in the counterattack. Lukashenko said the counterattack did not work and mentioned that only older men are involved in the fighting.

Lukashenko explained his thoughts on why the US wants Ukraine to quickly attack back. He said that US President Joe Biden could improve his approval rating by achieving a win in Ukraine.

Due to the current political situation, this war doesn’t benefit Biden and the American government in terms of power and influence. Biden is already not doing well according to all the surveys. He wants to win at something. “You have to contribute something valuable in order to succeed,” Lukashenko said.

  • Poland to participate in crucial election next week

Poland to participate in crucial election next week

During election campaigns, voters in democratic countries will often hear that their nation is at a crucial turning point.

But right now in Poland, the old saying about elections being predictable is very true.

The European Union’s fifth-largest country will have an important election on Sunday, October 15. The outcome of this election will have a significant impact on the EU, Ukraine, and the United States.

In simple terms, the upcoming vote next weekend could allow the ruling Law and Justice party to stay in power for a third term. Critics are concerned that this could result in significant changes to the country’s institutions, which may not support liberal principles.

However, the election is very close. A group of parties against the current government has a real chance of winning, but if the outcome is uncertain, it could give an opportunity for the far right to benefit.

Here is the information you should know.

Poland is having an election on October 15 to choose its new parliament. PiS, the party currently in power with the help of some smaller populist parties, wants to win for the third time in a row and become the next government. A group of moderate parties, led by Donald Tusk, who used to be Poland’s prime minister and the former president of the European Council, are against it.

With only a few days left in the campaign, there are still many different results that could happen.

Surveys show that the PiS party is slightly ahead of Tusk’s Civic Coalition in the polls. However, this lead is not significant, which means that it is unlikely for any group to win a complete majority in Poland’s lower house, the Sejm. If that happens, it would begin a series of discussions for several days after the vote, where the main party will try to form a group of parties to work together and be in charge.

People are wondering if the Confederation, a small far-right party, would join forces with PiS if they have a lot of power after the election. The leaders of the Confederation have said that they don’t want to make any agreements.

In Polish politics, people have always fought with each other and attacked each other personally. But no matter how you look at it, this year’s campaign has been very mean.

PiS, a political party, has been accused of blaming migrants and LGBTQ people in order to create conflict before past elections. They have continuously tried to depict Tusk as a pawn of Brussels and Berlin. The government started an investigation earlier this year called “Russian influence” which caused a lot of disagreement both in our country and overseas. Many people thought it was an attempt to unfairly go after the opposition leader.

Public media, which is mostly influenced by PiS, has been echoing many of the same ideas. Tusk is trying to fight against corruption and authoritarianism in Poland and sees his run as the only opportunity to save the country.

Jacek Kucharczyk, the president of the Institute of Public Affairs in Warsaw, said to CNN that people are overreacting and being very scared, thinking that this situation will ruin Poland.

The prime minister responded to Zelensky’s insults towards Poles by saying that he should never insult them again.

Both sides in this clash have different descriptions of what is good and evil. One side believes in things like democracy, the rule of law, and Western values. The other side believes in things like nationalism, Catholicism, and sovereignty. That’s what Kucharczyk said.

Many voters have been most worried about high prices and the difficulty of affording basic needs. Also, concerns about safety have been important during the campaign. Last month, there were reports that Polish officials were accused of being part of a scandal where money was exchanged for visas. This has made it difficult for PiS lawmakers to show that they are strong in protecting the country’s borders.
    Poland has changed a lot.

Poland has recently become less liberal under the rule of PiS for the past eight years. Because of this, the country has lost support from western nations who used to look up to it as a model of democracy after the Soviet era. This has led to increased tensions before the upcoming vote next week.

People who don’t agree with the government say that if they get a third term, they will have more control over the courts, the media, democratic organizations, and the rights of women and minority groups.

Kucharczyk said to CNN that the upcoming election is seen as the final opportunity to stop the decline of democracy, using democratic methods. The worry is that if PiS stays in charge for four more years, they will further develop the authoritarian system they have been creating for the past eight years.

The ruling party has made big changes to the judiciary system, allowing the government to have more control over who gets important roles. In June, the highest court of the EU said that Poland’s changes to its legal system were against the laws of the alliance. They told Poland to make changes or pay a lot of money.

Piotr Buras, leader of the ECFR in Warsaw, said it was a huge change for the institution. “This is a significant change towards a non-democratic government while pretending to be democratic. ”

PiS said their changes were necessary to update Poland’s institutions and remove judges previously appointed during the time when Poland was ruled by communists. But the people who disagree with the party say that it is trying to be like Hungary, which has been criticized for becoming more controlling and powerful, just like Brussels.

According to Buras, something very unusual may happen in European democracy after this election. It could be an attempt to undo or lessen the influence of liberalism.

“Once upon a time, Poland was the top student in the class compared to other countries in the EU,” explained Kucharczyk. He was talking about the period after the Soviet era when Warsaw rapidly developed as a successful, young democracy with a thriving free-market system.

However, there have been significant changes over the last ten years. Poland has been stuck in a prolonged conflict with the European Union. Brussels has stopped giving money and sued Warsaw because they are trying to make the law and courts less strong and independent. In response, Poland’s government has been attacking the institution, while saying that Polish freedom is more important than working with other countries.

“The ruling party is becoming more unfriendly towards the EU and has been having worse relationships with their neighbors, particularly Germany,” said Dariusz Stola, a historian at the Institute of Political Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences, in an interview with CNN.

However, Poland still has a strong and influential position in Europe. The outcome of this month’s vote has the potential to significantly change the current situation. Poland joined the EU in 2004 and most Polish people still really like being a part of it. The opposition has picked Tusk, who is a very important person in European politics, to lead their campaign.

Poland received a lot of unexpected support and goodwill in Europe for how it reacted to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year. Moscow’s aggressive actions have proven that Poland’s long-standing concerns about Russia’s intentions and Europe’s dependence on Russian energy were actually valid. In the past, these concerns were often dismissed in the West as outdated complaints from a previous time.

This month’s election will help decide if Warsaw wants to improve its relationship with Brussels and take a major role in dealing with Russia, or if the ongoing disagreement between the two sides gets worse.

“Poland is an important country in Europe. It shares a border with Ukraine, has a large army, spends a lot of money on its military, and plays a crucial role in supporting Ukraine,” explained Stola. “What occurs in Poland in the next few years will have a big impact on all of Europe. ”

Kyiv and Washington are keeping an eye on

Poland’s election is important to both its neighbors in the west and the east. The relationship between Warsaw and Kyiv has become more tense recently.

“According to Buras, Poland’s moral superiority in foreign policy over the past year and a half has been based on their support for Ukraine. ” Right now, the picture has big problems.

The Polish government has been speaking strongly and openly against Ukraine. They are concerned about Ukrainian grain being imported into Poland, which they believe will harm Polish farmers. The government is also upset about Ukraine getting weapons from Western countries and trying to join NATO and the EU.

This year, old anger and resentment over a mass killing by Ukrainian nationalists during World War II have come up again. This has added to the existing tensions that had calmed down after Russia invaded.

A new party called the Confederation has been causing a change. They don’t like that Ukraine refugees in Poland are getting money to help them. This year, the group has received more support in the areas where PiS is popular in the countryside. As a result, government officials have started talking more harshly towards Kyiv.

Kucharczyk said that one possible result could be a partnership between PiS and Confederation, which would have negative effects on Polish-Ukrainian relations.

It is hard to think of a situation where Poland stops Western weapons going through its land to Ukraine, and Poland’s strong disagreement with Russia will always be an important part of how it sees the world.

However, experts warn that the relationship between Warsaw and Kyiv could worsen if Warsaw reduces its financial and military assistance after the election.

“Poland really wants to help Ukraine a lot,” Kucharczyk said. “But the harm caused during the election campaign will persist, leading Ukrainians to increasingly seek support from Berlin and Washington, rather than Warsaw. ”

310 polling station officers in Assin Central endorse Bawumia

Some 310 polling station executives from the New Patriotic Party in the Assin Central Constituency have publicly endorsed Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as their preferred candidate in the upcoming presidential primary scheduled for November 4, 2023.

In a press conference held on October 5, 2023, these executives expressed their unwavering support for Vice President Bawumia, citing him as the sole competent and credible candidate capable of securing victory in the 2024 presidential election.

The group’s convener, Mr. J.Y., who serves as the polling station organiser at Adweso Mepeasem, highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s exceptional track record, policies, and vision as the driving factors behind their endorsement. They are resolute in their commitment to cast their votes for him on November 4 and remain steadfast in their decision.

Mr. J.Y. emphasized that no external influences could sway their support away from Dr. Bawumia. He also expressed disappointment in their Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong, who is also contesting in the primaries, claiming that the constituency’s party members have not benefited from his leadership.

Furthermore, he lamented that individuals outside the party were enjoying the constituency’s benefits instead of those who tirelessly work to uphold the New Patriotic Party’s reputation and integrity.

Meanwhile, he has complained bitterly about intimidation by some other candidates against those who have declared their support for Dr. Bawunia.

“We are being intimidated and threatened because we have declared our support for Bawumia,” he explained. We are 310 people, but only the right ones are at today’s press conference.

The declaration of support for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia by these polling station executives in the Assin Central Constituency has not come without its challenges, as they have faced threats and intimidation due to their endorsement. Despite these challenges, they remain resolute in their decision to back Dr. Bawumia and have called on others who may be intimidated to join them.

They expressed their disappointment in not receiving any form of appointment, including ministerial and board positions, despite their long-standing dedication and service to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Chairman Ralph, the Wurakese polling station chairman, and fellow delegates have echoed their unwavering support for Dr. Bawumia. They firmly believe that he possesses the competence, credibility, and dedication required to lead the NPP and break the eight-year jinx, asserting that no other candidate can persuade them to change their minds.

Russian missile kills 10-year-old boy in Kharkiv while sleeping – Ukraine

A 10-year-old boy was sleeping when Russia bombed the city of Kharkiv, and he sadly died. Ukrainian officials shared this information.

A photo claiming to show the boy’s body lying in the rubble was shared on social media by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.

He looked like he was covered with a blue blanket and dust. There were broken things all around him, and some people who were there to help.

A child’s body covered with a blanket. This morning, he was killed in Kharkiv by a missile from Russia. “The ministry said that it seemed like the boy was sleeping. ”

The Iskander is a type of missile from Russia. It can reach the city of Kharkiv, which is near the border of Ukraine, very quickly.

CNN has not checked or verified the photo on its own.

A 68-year-old lady, who was the grandmother of the boy, died in the attacks. The boy’s 11-month-old brother was injured along with 30 other people. Oleh Syniehubov, the chief of Kharkiv’s regional state administration, gave this information.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky mentioned in his speech on Friday evening that the parents and 11-month-old brother of the boys are currently receiving treatment in a hospital.

“I extend my sympathy to all who have lost their loved ones due to Russia,” he said.

The 10-year-old is one of over 500 children who have died in Ukraine because of Russia’s invasion. As of October 6th, in Ukraine, 505 children have died and more than 1,129 have been hurt with different levels of seriousness, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office.

On Friday, there was an attack in Kharkiv. This happened one day after a very destructive missile strike in Hroza, where another child and at least 51 other people were killed. There are still two kids and two grown-ups who cannot be found after the attack in Hroza.

It’s hard to believe that people are capable of doing such things. The First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, said that Russians attacked a grocery store and a cafe in Hroza village in the Kharkiv region. “This attack is really mean and doesn’t make any sense, like the war started by RF (the Russian Federation),” she said.

On Friday, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitro Kuleba stated that the attacks on Kharkiv and Hroza were terrible acts that demonstrate the need for ongoing and increased international support for Ukraine.

“Making it weaker would only lead to more acts of violence and violation of human rights like this,” he said.

Russia says it does not attack innocent people or places where regular people live.

Pura Luka Vega detained after Jesus performance sparked Catholic criticism

A person who dresses up as Jesus and sings a rock version of The Lord’s Prayer has been arrested in the Philippines. This has caused a big argument about free speech and protecting LGBTQ people.

The Philippines is a country where many people believe in Christianity, especially the Catholic Church. This church has a strong impact on everyday life and politics.

Amadeus Fernando Pagente, who is 33 years old and performs as Pura Luka Vega in drag, was accused by Catholic church officials and others of blasphemy. This happened after videos of their performance singing the Tagalog version of the prayer called “Ama Namin” became very popular online in July.

The person was arrested by the police on Wednesday for doing something that was against the law. The law says that it is not allowed to do things that are disrespectful to any religion. The information about the arrest was shared by the person’s legal team on a website called X. The claims suggest that they broke a law about cyber crime because they shared the video online, supposedly to carry out the crime that was mentioned.

The lawyers promised to challenge the accusations against Pagente and first work on getting him released on bail.

Videos of a drag performer singing The Lord’s Prayer in Tagalog with people at a bar got a lot of negative feedback from religious groups.

The show caused a big controversy in the Philippines. Pagente was seen wearing fancy clothes that looked like what Catholic priests wear, and had a golden circle above their head. The controversy lasted for weeks and was talked about a lot in the news. More than a dozen cities, including the capital Manila where Pagente lives, declared that Pagente was no longer welcome.

Pagente was arrested because a group called Hijos Del Nazareno Central filed a complaint against him. This group represents people who are devoted to the Black Nazarene, a special sculpture of Jesus that was brought from Mexico to the Philippines in 1606. These people believe that the sculpture has magical powers.

The group famously plans a big yearly religious parade in Quezon City that attracts a large number of religious followers.

Hijos Del Nazareno Central posted on Facebook after Pagente’s arrest, saying that its followers will not tolerate any disrespect towards the name of Jesus of the Nazarene. CNN has contacted the group for more information.

Many politicians, including senators, also appeared on Philippine television shows to express their disapproval of the drag artist’s performance. They found it disrespectful, offensive, and blasphemous.

The drag artist said sorry to people who didn’t feel good about their show. But they also argued that the act was a type of art, explaining to CNN affiliate CNN Philippines in an interview that the performance portrayed the sense of being left out as a queer individual in a heavily Catholic nation.

I know that some people think my performance is disrespectful, rude, or unfortunate. But they shouldn’t tell me how to follow my religion or how to do my drag performances. The show wasn’t meant for you from the start. This is my personal experience and how I feel about not being allowed to have my rights, the performer wrote in a message on July 13 on X.

Father Jerome Secillano, who speaks for the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, said in an interview with CNN on Thursday that the church found the performance disrespectful because it didn’t show proper respect.

“He said that the performance made fun of our beliefs, and he believes that aspects of our beliefs should not be used for worldly purposes, particularly for amusement. “

But Secillano did not say whether the church thought that arresting Pagente was the correct action to protect the faith.

Almost 80% of people in the Philippines consider themselves to be Roman Catholic and the church is still very influential and powerful.

The Philippines is one of the few countries, alongside Vatican City, where divorce is still not permitted. Same-sex marriage and abortion are not allowed or permitted. A law that prevents discrimination and helps minorities has not been making progress in congress because of opposition from conservatives.

Carlos Conde, a senior researcher at Human Rights Watch, said that Pagente’s arrest was very upsetting and an excessive response by those who were offended.

As mall group of people who claim to be offended by Pura Luka [Vega] are the ones pushing this case, not all Filipinos. They are using existing laws to target and harm LGBT people. This was stated by Conde in an email to CNN.

Pagente was a participant on the reality competition show called”DragDen,” which started in December 2022 and is available on Amazon Prime.

The show, directed by Rod Singh, who is a transgender person from the Philippines, took place in an underground location. It showed the drag queens’ lively and bold characters while also highlighting their need to stay rebellious in a society that has traditional beliefs.

After Pagente’s arrest, Singh supported and spoke out for him, as she considers him both a friend and coworker. She stated on X that the problem at hand is no longer just about a drag performance or one’s beliefs in God or religion. Whether you like to accept it or not, your unfair judgment against our community and the rights we need is the main issue.

When you have your eyes open, you have faith and show respect to a God that you can’t see, but you ignore the important aspects of life and human rights when you close your eyes and ignore them. You learned how to pray, but you didn’t learn how to comprehend. Singh said that you shouldn’t ask for something if you can’t give it.

  • She traversed the world yet passed away just one mile from her house

She traversed the world yet passed away just one mile from her house

Doctors in a village in County Donegal are working to help people heal emotionally as the villagers get ready to remember the one-year anniversary of an explosion that tragically took the lives of 10 people.

A big explosion occurred at the Apple green gas station in Creeslough on October 7, 2022.

The only store in the village and part of an apartment building got destroyed.

The people who were hurt or killed were from the village or nearby places.

The Irish police, known as Gardaí, are still investigating and do not yet know the reason.

A ceremony will happen on Saturday at the place where the explosion occurred, at 3:00 PM local time. This event will honor and remember the people who died.

There will be a special gathering in St. Michael’s Church to remember and honor the victims, families, and first responders.
Creeslough is a little town in the northwest of Ireland. It is located around 15 miles away from Letter kenny and 30 miles from the border with Northern Ireland.

There are around 400 people living there.

    The community is still sad.

Dr Paul Stewart, a doctor at the Dunfanaghy Health Centre, said that the people in the area are still trying to understand what happened last October.

Many people in the village are still using the grief support and counseling services that were provided.

“The town feels sad and quiet, still not fully recovered, and it’s uncertain how much longer that will continue,” he expressed.
Dr Stewart said that many people are feeling frustrated because the investigation is taking too long. They want to know what caused the explosion.

“I believe that seeking answers is an important part of the healing journey,” he said.

The Irish police, known as Gardaí, have started investigating over 1,350 possible leads and have gathered information from over 900 people after the explosion.

‘She didn’t come back to her home. ‘

Fashion designer Jessica Gallagher was supposed to begin a new job in Belfast the following week when the explosion occurred.

Jessica went to school in Paris to study design. Now she is excited to start a new phase in her life.

“Her mother Bernie said that she had her case packed with all her things and she had found a place to stay. ”

“She did not come back home, she never returned. ”

The night before she passed away, Jessica had a late birthday dinner with her boyfriend and stayed in his apartment next to the gas station.

This was the final time her mother ever saw her.

Bernie was at home when she heard a really loud explosion about a mile away. Without thinking, she quickly ran to the place where it happened.

She remembered that she called her, but she didn’t answer.

“Aman and woman with a child gave me a ride and I was eager to leave the car because I wanted to find her. “

Bernie had to wait for a longtime, and then she was shown her daughter’s dead body.

“It feels like yesterday even though a whole year has passed. “

Jessica traveled to many places because of her skills, but her family said that she always had a deep connection to Creeslough.

Her father Anthony said that she would often use things from home, like the Muckish mountain that looked over the village, in her designs.

“I believe that when a young person doesn’t reach their full potential, it is a major loss for their family,”stated Anthony.

“We are having difficulty understanding why a girl who traveled all around the world was killed only a mile away from her home. “

Anthony thinks of his youngest daughter as very brave and extremely faithful.

She had a strong desire to do something important in the world and make a positive impact.
Leona Harper was only14yearsold when she died in the tragedy that happened last year.

She was going to buy icecream for a sleepover with her friends when she talked to her mother Donna for the last time.

The last thing I said to her was,”Okay Leona, I love you. We’ll talk tonight. “She said,”I love you too,Mammy. “That was our last conversation.

“I will always remember this as a joyful moment because she was happy. “
‘She enjoyed and appreciated living. ‘

Leona was found later than most people after the explosion occurred.

“[We were] waiting all night and the next morning, hoping to get Leona back. We prayed that we would get her back,” said her father, Hugh.

“We were able to bring her back, but it didn’t happen the way we hoped for. “

Hugh talked about the very sad moment when he had to recognize his daughter.

As a parent, one of the hardest things for me is knowing that one of my children has passed away. It is a very difficult and painful experience that I hope I never have to go through again.

Leona was highly valued and loved not only by her family and their group but also by her favorite Letter kenny Rugby Club.

“She enjoyed the little things in life that many people don’t value, and she has taught me to see their worth,” Hugh said.

The family also thanked the people in Donegal and surrounding areas for their support after the tragedy.
The local bishop, Alan McGuckian, agreed with this feeling and said that the people in the community had come together to support each other over the past year.

However, families were very afraid and worried about the arrival of the first anniversary.

“People in Creeslough area ware that they will hold on to this and it will be remembered by future generations,” he said to BBC News NI.

Everyday people have faced challenges together and supported each other. They will continue to do so in the future.

  • Kenya’s vice president supports police in their journey to Haiti

Kenya’s vice president supports police in their journey to Haiti

Kenya’s Vice President, Rigathi Gachagua, supports the country’s police despite criticism of their decision to send them to Haiti to control gang violence.

On Friday, Mr. Gachagua said that the police in Kenya are highly regarded worldwide.

Even though it was not clear which tasks or assignments he was talking about.

Many human rights organizations in Kenya and around the world are concerned that the police might bring their human rights violations to Haiti.

In August, Amnesty International, a group that defends human rights, wrote a letter to the UN Security Council. They were worried about the deployment of Kenyan police because they have a history of using too much force when responding to situations.

It also mentioned that this year alone, they have recorded over 30 instances of Kenyan police killing protesters.

Mr Gachagua said that the UN Security Council approved Kenyan police to lead the multinational force in Haiti after checking the performance of the officers.

He wrote on social media that the UN said Kenyan police officers are the best at calming chaos and bringing order.

  • Ground soiled with blood after horrific village attack in Ukraine

Ground soiled with blood after horrific village attack in Ukraine

The village of Hroza is usually small, but today there are a lot of cars and people. Something important must have happened.

After driving for a long time through Ukraine’s never-ending countryside, seeing this is shocking.

A ballistic missile is very powerful, and it’s not always easy to see where it landed right away.

Even though there is still a smell of something burning in the air, when you go around a corner, you see the walls that are left of a café and grocery shop that used to be there.

The missile hit a funeral where many people from the village were present. This was because the son wanted to rebury his father, who had been killed and buried in a different place that was controlled by someone else last year.

Now, not only him and his wife, but also 49 other people are gone – nearly 20% of Hroza’s population died all at once.

According to Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, every family living in the village in the north-eastern Kharkiv region has been impacted.
The café and grocery shop are surprisingly still standing. Different designs on the wallpaper show that most of the building is no longer visible.

Medical teams left latex gloves on the nearby playground where they found most of the bodies.

You can still see blood marks on the ground.

Spookily, the swings and slide remain in place. Innocent symbols standing out in a sad and desperate situation.

There is a body covered with something lying next to some candles on a tractor tire. A tribute to the 52 people who tragically lost their lives yesterday.

We see Andriy as we travel along a rough road nearby. He says his wife Lyubov was at the funeral gathering yesterday afternoon, but he doesn’t know where she is now.

Andriy was away from home while working.

“He says we can’t locate her. ” We don’t know if she is dead or alive. We are confused about what to do.

Lyubov’s dad went to the police station to give his DNA so they could find out who she is.
The local attorney strongly believes this attack was intentional. The clear use of a powerful missile, which can hit targets with accuracy, supports that statement.

Locals also support this claim by saying that the village usually avoids getting bombed like other nearby settlements do.

But Ukraine’s defense ministry says that Russia caused the attack and there were no military objectives in that area.

This attack was probably driven by the funeral gathering of a Ukrainian soldier.

The prosecutor wants to show me a video he recorded on his phone when he got here yesterday. “It’s quite difficult to watch, but he said that people need to see it. ”

This attack affects more than just the area where it happened, even though there are only 300 people living there.

  • Kenya to approach China for an additional $1 billion loan

Kenya to approach China for an additional $1 billion loan

Kenyan President William Ruto is going to China this month to ask for a loan of $1 billion to pay for road projects that have stopped.

Mr Gachagua said on Inooro FM radio that lots of contractors stopped working on projects all over the country because they weren’t being paid for their work.

He mentioned that Kenya already owes a lot of money to China, but the president wants to ask for an additional $1 billion. The president also wants more time to pay back the money that Kenya already owes.

He said the president will tell the Chinese that “we agree that we owe you money. Can we discuss adding more time to repay it, paying at a slower pace, and possibly receiving additional funds to complete our road construction. ”

Kenya has borrowed more than $8 billion from China, mostly during President Uhuru Kenyatta’s time in office, to fund infrastructure projects.

The second-in-command addressed the problem of government officials being too wasteful, saying it was the reason the president had ordered a limit on traveling to other countries.

This week, the government decided that public officials cannot take unnecessary trips overseas to save money. They also told all government departments that they must reduce their budget for the next year by 10%.

The government has been blamed for spending money without a good reason, and many Kenyans are upset about the high cost of living and increased taxes imposed by the government.

  • India keeps looking for survivors following flash floods

India keeps looking for survivors following flash floods

Rescue teams have been continuing to search for over 100 missing people after flash floods occurred in the state of Sikkim in northeast India.

On Friday, officials said that at least 22 people have died, including seven soldiers.

The big floods happened because of a sudden heavy rainfall over a lake on the mountain this week.

The floods got worse when water was let out from a dam near the Teesta river.

It broke the power system at the Chungthang dam and then went down the river and flooded towns and villages.

Many search and rescue people have been sent to Sikkim and northern parts of West Bengal, which is lower in elevation. Places close to the river are being cautious.

Some army personnel, around 23, have been reported as missing. The Chief Minister, Prem Singh Tamang, said that they have found the bodies of seven people in various places downstream of the river. One soldier was saved and found alive earlier this week.

A sum of 103 individuals, counting 15 soldiers, are still not found, as per his statement.
Over 22,000 people have been impacted by the floods, and many are stuck in Lachen and Lachung in northern Sikkim. The floods have caused problems with mobile phone service in the area.

Mr Tamang said that the roads connecting different districts have been blocked and the bridges have been taken away by water.

The army said they were giving food and medical help to people. They were also helping civilians and tourists by helping them communicate with others. Rescue teams are also taking people who have been evacuated to places where they can receive help and support.

All schools and colleges in the state will be closed until 15 October because of bad weather.

On Tuesday night, because of a lot of rain, the Lhonak lake in the state broke its embankment. This caused the water level in the Teesta river in Lachen Valley to rise very quickly, which was worrying.

The flood got worse when water was let out from a dam close by into the river. A person from the military said that the water levels downstream suddenly went up very fast and got as high as 15 to 20 feet.

Pictures from space that Isro, India’s space agency, shared showed big changes in the amount of water in the lake.

On 28 September, the lake was 167. 4 hectares big, but by 4 October, it had become much smaller, just 60. 3
The floods destroyed many things, like roads and bridges.

The northern areas of West Bengal have been flooded by water from the Teesta river, affecting districts like Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Cooch Behar, and Jalpaiguri.

According to officials, two people died and six others got hurt when a mortar shell, found in the river that was full, exploded in Jalpaiguri.

Sikkim, a place in the Himalayas, has a high risk of floods and other natural disasters. Last year, there was a lot of flooding in that area that forced tens of thousands of people to leave their homes, and sadly 24 people lost their lives.

  • Ethiopian called ‘angel’ for risking his life to save boy

Ethiopian called ‘angel’ for risking his life to save boy

A young man from Ethiopia is being praised as an “angel” after he saved a 10-year-old boy from drowning. He jumped off a moving bus and went through a flooded river to rescue the boy.

Abdi Tufa, the person who came to rescue, mentioned that he was hit by rocks and logs that came with the flood waters from the mountains. However, he didn’t give up and continued until he reached Riyad Nesru.

My leg is hurt badly and won’t work properly. I have a really bad injury on my back and waist. “I am currently receiving medical care,” he said to the BBC in Oromoo language.

Abdi was on a bus going to Ethiopia’s capital city, Addis Ababa. Suddenly, he woke up because he heard villagers screaming for help. They were worried that Riyad was in danger of drowning or being carried away by strong flood waters.

The boy got stuck in a flood while looking after his family’s goats in a small town called Hirna, which is 350km (220 miles) east of Addis Ababa.

Abdi suddenly decided to jump out of the bus window, surprising everyone else on the bus. He then went into the river.

I saw the kid from the window. He was almost drowning, but nobody was coming to help him,” he told BBC Afaan Oromoo about the moment he decided to save the boy who couldn’t help himself.

Abdi is getting better while being taken care of by the boy’s family. He said he was too hurt to walk by himself, but he was glad he saved the boy’s life.

Riyad’s uncle believed that the family saw Abdi as a special person sent by God to rescue their child.

We would have lost someone dear [by now]. Abdi is someone special who has done something brave or extraordinary. Now we think of him as our oldest child,” Nasir Ibroshe said, and the family will take care of Abdi until he improves.

Anti-gay demonstrators demand that Kenya’s justices be fired

There is currently a protest against homosexuality happening outside the Supreme Court in Nairobi, which is the capital city of Kenya.

Many organizations and religious groups are upset about a recent decision that allows gay and lesbian groups to officially register in the country.

Some people are protesting and holding signs asking the judges of the Supreme Court to quit their positions.

Ten years ago, a government-funded organization rejected the registration of an LGBTQ rights group because they believed it encouraged same-sex activities, which are illegal in their country.

But this year, a different group of judges disagreed and changed the decision.

Kenya’s President William Ruto wants religious leaders to support and spread traditional beliefs and values.

  • Member of George Santos campaign admits to fraud

Member of George Santos campaign admits to fraud

A high-ranking official working for Congressman George Santos has admitted to being part of a plan to cheat people.

Nancy Marks went to court on Thursday and admitted that she lied about some of the campaign’s money records.

According to prosecutors, she informed that Mr. Santos falsely stated that he had given the campaign a loan of $500,000 (£410,000).

This is the most recent problem for the Republican lawmaker, who has also been charged with multiple crimes.

During her time in court, Ms. Marks explained to the judge that she was aware the loan had not been given, according to the New York Times.

The incorrect information made it seem like the campaign met the requirements to get money from the national Republican Party.

Prosecutors are also claiming that the campaign falsely reported receiving money from at least 10 relatives of Mr.

Ms Marks got arrested on Thursday and said her plea in a federal court in Long Island.

She might have to go to jail for as long as four years based on her current plea agreement. She was let go from jail by paying a $100,000 bond that she didn’t need to provide collateral for.

According to her lawyer, Ray Perini, Mr. Santos had a strong influence on his client’s mind.

Just after Mr. Santos was elected to represent a suburban area in New York in 2022, the New York Times and other news sources said that he lied about important parts of his resume and life story.

He was closely examined for his doubtful reporting and how he used his money for his campaign.

Mr Santos was accused in May of committing wire fraud, lying to the US House of Representatives, money laundering, and stealing public funds.

Even though people have asked him to quit, Mr. Santos still works in Congress and actively seeks attention.

But he has confessed to making his resume sound better than it actually is.

  • Ukraine cyber-conflict: Hacking groups promise to end the cyberwar in Ukraine

Ukraine cyber-conflict: Hacking groups promise to end the cyberwar in Ukraine

The two biggest hacktivist groups involved in the Ukraine conflict have promised to reduce their cyber-attacks and follow new rules set by a war watchdog organization.

On Wednesday, the Red Cross made a list of rules for civilian hackers.

It was called the “Geneva Code of cyber-war”, but at first people said it wouldn’t work.

However, right now hackers from Ukraine and Russia are saying that they will follow the guidelines.

Since Ukraine was invaded, there have been many cyber-attacks that have disrupted public services in both Ukraine and Russia, causing different levels of damage.

Hacktivist groups have been using basic methods of cyber-attack, but they have managed to temporarily disrupt banks, companies, pharmacies, hospitals, railway networks, and government services for citizens of Ukraine and Russia.

Hacktivists on both sides have been enjoying causing problems for regular people because there aren’t many easy targets in the government or military. They often gather angry messages from people who have been affected by their attacks on social media.

Hacker groups promise to follow the ICRC rules, so they won’t harm innocent people with cyber-attacks.

Talking to the BBC, the head of the well-known pro-Russian hacking group Killnet stated that he agrees to the conditions and regulations set by the Red Cross. This is considered as Killnet’s first move towards achieving peace.

Killmilk, also known as Killnet’s founder, created a Telegram group right after his country was invaded. Currently, he has 90,000 people following his group.

Killmilk has shared videos of himself peeing on the flags of Ukraine and Nato. The group he belongs to has been known for frequently causing small disturbances and attacking Ukrainian targets.
The group has been accused of being closely connected to the Kremlin, but they have always said that this is not true.

In April, the National Cyber Security Centre in the UK warned that groups like Killnet are a new threat to Ukraine and its allies. They also told UK businesses that these groups are increasingly launching attacks.

If Killnet does what it promised, then the cyber-attacks on civilian targets will stop, including those of Ukraine’s friends.

The IT Army of Ukraine also mentioned that it will obey the ICRC’s eight guidelines.

The group, which has 160,000 people on its Telegram channel, also goes after public services like trains and banks.

The group’s spokesperson said they will try their best to follow the rules, even though it might put them at a disadvantage compared to their opponents. The spokesperson also mentioned that attacking healthcare targets has always been deeply unacceptable.

This news suggests that there might be a big decrease in the number of cyber attacks since groups will focus on attacking only official or military targets.

However, other hacktivist groups supporting different patriotic or ethical causes worldwide informed the BBC that they would not comply with the rules in any way.

The ICRC made eight rules to stop the chaos that has gotten worse during the cyber conflict in Ukraine. They said that many people are joining cyber-gangs that support their country, which is something that has not happened before.

  • Drone strike kills dozens in Syria’s army ceremonial

Drone strike kills dozens in Syria’s army ceremonial

A drone attack happened in the city of Homs in Syria, targeting a military academy. Sadly, it resulted in the death of at least 89 individuals, according to the country’s health ministry.

The drones that were carrying explosives attacked a graduation ceremony where families of the cadets were present. Unfortunately, women and children were among those who lost their lives.

A group that watches over things in the UK said that 116 people have been killed.

The Syrian army said that the attack was done by “terrorist groups supported by certain international forces”.

The rebels and jihadists fighting against the government in the country’s civil war have not made any immediate statements or claims.

They think that the drone attack came from areas controlled by the opposition in the north-west of Homs.

Afterwards, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said that 11 innocent people had been killed by the government’s attacks on different places in the opposition’s main area of Idlib province and Aleppo.

Syria’s official news agency, Sana, reported that some flying machines with bombs attacked the Homs military school right after the graduation ended in the afternoon.

The military says that they see this action as a very serious crime and they promise to respond strongly to these terrorist groups no matter where they are.

In another report, the agency mentioned that 277 people got hurt in the strike, and among the dead, there were 31 women and five children, as stated by the health ministry.

A person who aided in arranging the decorations informed Reuters news agency that after the event, individuals went to the outdoor area and were struck by explosions. We are not sure where it came from, and there were dead bodies all over the place.

A very shocking video showed the consequences of the attack. Many people were hurt or killed, and their family members were desperate for assistance. This all happened inside a big, fenced area where parades are held. You can also hear the sound of guns in the distance.
The SOHR said that Syria’s defense minister went to the graduation event but left a few minutes before the attack happened.

Over 500,000 people have died because of the war that started when President Bashar al-Assad forcefully suppressed peaceful protests for democracy in 2011.

Around 68 million individuals have been forced to leave their homes within their own country. Additionally, approximately six million individuals have sought refuge or asylum in other countries.

The UN’s special representative for Syria, Geir Pedersen, said that the attack on the academy was very terrible and asked everyone involved in the conflict to be very careful and not to act without control.

“He said that everyone should follow the rules of international law and make sure that civilians and civilian buildings are kept safe. ”

Today’s events show that the current situation in Syria cannot continue and that, without a practical plan for politics. I’m scared that things will keep getting worse, especially when it comes to safety.

On Thursday, there was another event in Syria. Turkish drones attacked a Kurdish-controlled area in north-eastern Syria, reportedly killing at least 10 people. This attack was in response to a bomb attack in Ankara that was carried out by Kurdish militants.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that 17 places were attacked. These locations included places connected to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a group of militias supported by the United States and led by Kurdish people. The attacks also targeted a power station in Qamishli, a water station near Hassakeh, and an oil field.

According to a US official who spoke to Reuters, the US military destroyed a Turkish drone that had weapons and was flying close to their troops in Syria.

  • Sunak calls for widespread immigration reform in Europe

Sunak calls for widespread immigration reform in Europe

Rishi Sunak wants Europe to work together to handle the increasing amount of people coming into the continent without following proper procedures.

At a special meeting of European leaders in Spain, the prime minister said that the situation was not right and cannot continue in the long term.

He asked for new and creative solutions for the migration problem in Europe. This means that he wants to stop people who smuggle others into the continent and make the borders more secure.

On Thursday, the prime minister asked European leaders to work quickly to deal with illegal migration. This request was made in an article written together with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in The Times newspaper.

The duo mentioned that the current plan is not effective and we need to work together more closely and take stricter actions to stop the people who help others illegally immigrate.

Italy has had over 100,000 migrants arrive on its shores this year, which is five times more than the UK.

During the summit, Mr Sunak and Meloni led a meeting with other leaders. They reached agreements with Belgium, Bulgaria, and Serbia to combat criminal networks. This would be achieved by sharing more information and collaborating more closely in their actions. Serbia is an important country for migrants coming into Europe and moving through.

The summit is a meeting of 47 leaders from European and non-European countries. They are part of a new organization called the European Political Community, which was created last year after Russia invaded Ukraine. The main point of this is to talk about the war, but it is also a chance for leaders to have broader, less formal talks.

Even though Mr Sunak spoke out against the UK getting closer to the European Union in his speech, he does seem more open to working with other European countries on immigration, which was one of his important goals during the election.

He said he will stop the little boats with people coming from other countries from coming across the English Channel. Even though the numbers are lower than last year, more than 20,000 people have already come this year.

We do not know yet if other European leaders have the same priorities as Mr. Sunak, or if they might work together on common goals. EU countries, especially, have had a hard time coming to an agreement on how to divide the challenges of migration.

The EU agreed on Wednesday to change its internal asylum rules. This will make it simpler for countries such as Italy and Greece to receive assistance from other EU members when there is a sudden increase in irregular migration. Some EU countries, including Spain, want to talk about new ways for people to migrate legally.

But Mr Sunak is mainly concentrating on dealing with the main reasons for the problem, which are criminal people smugglers. This would need countries from both inside and outside of the EU to work together more closely.

In a statement before the meeting, Mr. Sunak said that the amount of people migrating illegally to mainland Europe is the highest it has been in almost ten years. Many people are dying in the ocean due to the actions of people who smuggle them. This is wrong and cannot continue. We cannot let bad groups decide who enters Europe.

When it comes to dealing with the problems caused by Russian President Vladimir Putin, dealing with the risks and benefits of artificial intelligence, or addressing illegal migration, it is better to work together and be united.

“I will be talking about these problems that go beyond one country and need innovative solutions that cover all of Europe with my fellow leaders at the European Political Community summit in Spain today. ”

Mr Sunak also said that more help will be provided to Ukraine for humanitarian reasons. He also talked about how Western allies can assist Ukraine in increasing its grain exports.

The government has shared information saying that Russia is getting ready to put explosive devices in the sea near Ukrainian ports.

The Foreign Office wants to prevent Ukrainian grain from being sent out of the country by going after civilian ships that transport it through the Black Sea.

  • Philippine vessels blocked by group of Chinese ships

Philippine vessels blocked by group of Chinese ships

Two boats from the Philippines went past a barrier made by the Chinese coast guard in the South China Sea on Wednesday. This has happened before and it is happening near a place that is argued over. Some people are worried that this could lead to a bigger problem and the United States might get involved.

Two boats from the Philippine coast guard were protected by larger ships, but it is not known if the Chinese coast guard prevented the ships from getting closer to the Second Thomas Shoal. Filipino marines have been guarding a warship called the BRP Sierra Madre that is stuck on the shoal for many years.

China says that it owns the shoal and has put its coast guard ships and militia vessels around it to stop the Philippines from bringing in building materials. China is worried that the materials could be used to make the Sierra Madre stronger and make it a permanent part of the country’s territory.

“Although many Chinese coast guard and maritime militia ships tried to stop and disturb the routine mission to rotate and resupply, two Philippine boats successfully provided necessary supplies to the Filipino forces at the shoal,” stated a Philippine government body responsible for the disputed waters on Wednesday evening.

“The Philippines is regularly resupplying and maintaining BRP Sierra Madre as part of their operations. This is in accordance with both domestic and international laws and is done to ensure the safety and well-being of our stationed personnel,” explained the inter-agency body.

It did not give more information about what the Chinese coast guard did. In the past, they have been criticized for their actions which are risky and almost caused accidents. and did not follow the rules for keeping people safe on the water.

According to the Chinese coast guard, the Philippine boats entered the waters without permission from China. They strongly disagree with the Philippines bringing building materials to the military boat that is stuck. The Chinese coast guard warned the Philippine boats and watched them closely.

The big fight that happened on Wednesday is the most recent problem in the ongoing arguments over who owns what in the South China Sea. This area is where lots of ships go for trading, so it’s very important. The fights between China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Brunei are considered a potential problem in Asia. They have also become an important issue in the rivalry between the United States and China in the area.

In the beginning of August, a ship from the Chinese coast guard sprayed water at one of two boats from the Philippines to stop it from getting closer to the Second Thomas Shoal. The bold action, which was recorded on video, made President Ferdinand Marcos Jr very angry. The Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila called in the Chinese ambassador to complain strongly.

Washington responded by emphasizing that it is committed to protecting the Philippines, its long-standing ally in Asia, in case of any armed attacks against Filipino troops, aircraft, or ships, even in the South China Sea.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry claimed that the United States was “threatening China” by suggesting that the U. S-Philippines defense treaty could be used. Beijing has given many warnings to the United States. Do not interfere in disagreements about land.

In August, the Philippines sent two boats to deliver supplies to their forces at the Second Thomas shoal. Even though the Chinese coast guard tried to stop them, the boats were able to get through. Two ships from the Philippine coast guard were trying to protect the supply boats, but they were stopped and prevented by Chinese coast guard ships from getting closer to the shoal. government-backed organization called the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is responsible for enforcing consumer protection laws. These laws are designed to make sure that businesses are truthful and fair when selling products or services to consumers. The FTC investigates and sues companies that engage in deceptive practices or unfair competition. They also provide resources and information to help consumers make informed decisions and protect themselves from scams. The navy used planes to watch and help the Philippine ships during the standoff, which lasted for over three hours.

The Defense Secretary of the Philippines, Gilberto Teodoro, is worried about China’s risky actions at sea. He mentioned that the government is prepared to handle any emergencies that may arise, such as a potential accident between Chinese and Philippine ships in the disputed waters.

Teodoro said, “We always consider the concern. ” when a reporter asked on Tuesday night. “We have different plans based on what happens. ”

The coast guard of the Philippines asked some journalists, including two from The Associated Press, to come on board their ships in August. They were there to make sure that the supply boats were safe. This was part of a new plan to show the public how China is behaving more aggressively in the South China Sea.

An arbitration decision made in 2016 that was established in accordance with the United Nations’ 1982 agreement. The Convention on the Law of the Sea said that Beijing cannot claim the entire South China Sea based on historical reasons. China said no to joining the arbitration that the Philippines asked for, and they didn’t accept the decision that was made. They believe it was fake, and they are still going against it.
