Starting from the academic year 2024/2025, senior high school (SHS) Science students will no longer be mandated to study Core and Elective Mathematics as separate examinable subjects.
Instead, they will be required to undertake Additional Mathematics, according to information provided by Professor Edward Appiah, the Director-General of the National Council and Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA).
Professor Appiah further clarified that Science students will no longer study Integrated Science, given their focus on Pure Science. This shift in requirements echoes the educational system in the country post-independence before major reforms introduced the junior high school (JHS) and senior high school (SHS) system.
In an exclusive interview with Graphic Online’s Education Editor, Severious Kale-Dery, Professor Edward Appiah explained that students pursuing General Arts, Business, Home Economics, and Visual Arts would now take Integrated Science, which will transform into General Science and Modern Mathematics instead of Core Mathematics.
This directive aligns with the introduction of standard-based and common core curricula for basic and junior high schools. The Ministry of Education has revised curricula for pre-tertiary schools, aiming to shift from rote learning to fostering critical learning skills.
The current JHS students will undergo the maiden edition of the common core Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). Professor Appiah outlined that the current JHS 3 students started with the common core in JHS One, and their BECE will be based on the common core curriculum.
NaCCA has completed a trial test of the common core curriculum for SHS students, scheduled to commence in the 2024/2025 academic year. The trial involved categorizing the country into three zones, selecting schools for the test, and gathering feedback for finalization.
The Director-General highlighted that the final trial test of the document would be conducted in 31 schools across the country and concluded by July. The new academic year, starting in September, will see a return to the old academic calendar, with JHS 3 students beginning the SHS common core curriculum.
Professor Appiah emphasized the change in the mode of assessment, moving towards a continuous, multiple assessment system throughout the academic year, offering a more holistic evaluation of students’ progress.
In the trial of Menzgold Ghana Limited’s CEO, Nana Appiah Mensah (NAM1), and two others, the eighth prosecution witness testified that the accused extorted money from customers while attempting to recover locked-up funds.
NAM1 and his companies, Menzgold Ghana Limited and Brew Marketing Consult Ghana Limited, face charges of defrauding by false pretences, inducing public investment, and money laundering.
The witness, Benjamin Baffoe, revealed making GH¢840,000 in Menzgold between December 2017 and June 2018. Despite efforts through the Coalition of Aggrieved Customers to retrieve funds, customers were asked for additional payments.
Various attempts, including a migration fee and retrieval fees, proved unsuccessful, leading to accusations of extortion from customers.
“Menzgold again asked customers to pay nine per cent of their existing investments to retrieve their money but just like the other payments, this also failed to produce any result.
The case has been adjourned to February 7, 2023, with NAM1 pleading not guilty to 39 counts of charges, including selling gold without a license and money laundering.
The allegations involve defrauding customers of GH¢340,835,650 between 2016 and 2018. NAM1 is on bail of GH¢500 million with four sureties.
Prosecution’s facts detail how Menzgold invited the public to deposit gold for promised profits, with over 16,000 people depositing money.
Despite warnings and SEC’s directive to suspend operations, NAM1 and Menzgold continued, leading to financial challenges for customers. Investigations revealed funds were transferred to Zylofon Media and used personally by NAM1.
The fraudulently obtained money remains unpaid following Menzgold Ghana Company Ltd’s revoked license.
The 2024 flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has once again criticized the state of Ghana’s economy under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Mahama asserted that President Akufo-Addo did not inherit a problematic situation, attributing the current challenges to what he described as the “clueless economic management team and finance minister” of the current administration.
Encouraging Ghanaians to vote against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming December general elections, Mahama highlighted the achievements of his administration before the NPP took office in 2016.
Expressing disappointment that the Akufo-Addo-led administration continued to blame his previous government for their failures, Mahama defended his term, stating that the state of the economy during his leadership was far better than the current situation under the Nana Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration.
Mahama stated, “You didn’t inherit a mess; it is your clueless economic management team and finance minister that created the mess we are experiencing today.”
Emphasizing his economic successes, Mahama positioned himself as the most qualified candidate for leading the nation after the December general elections.
He urged Ghanaians to reject what he considers the NPP’s rhetoric, emphasizing that the country has not made substantial progress as recently portrayed.
Former President , John Dramani Mahama refuted claims of leaving an economic mess during his tenure and directed blame towards President Nana Akufo-Addo’s finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, labeling the economic management team as “clueless.”

The flagbearer of the Butterfly Movement, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, has faced an unexpected setback when he arrived at Despite Media, owners of Peace FM, for a scheduled appearance on the Monday morning show.
Despite believing he was set to be interviewed by Kwami Sefa Kayi, Alan Kyerematen found himself stranded at the media company’s forecourt as they denied any prior agreement for his appearance.
Contrary to Chief Alan’s understanding, Despite Media did not promote or announce his supposed appearance on the show through their social media platforms.
On air, Sefa Kayi revealed the failed plan, highlighting that there was no arrangement for Alan to be on the Kokrokoo show that morning.
Investigations uncovered that the flyer announcing his appearance was not authorized or produced by Despite Media but by Team Alan without the media company’s knowledge or consent.
The public now awaits Ernest Koranteng, an aide to Chief Alan, to provide clarity on the entire story.
This incident raises concerns about the credibility of Chief Alan’s team and their communication with the media.
Mr. Koranteng’s explanation is eagerly anticipated as this situation has caused confusion and disappointment for both Chief Alan and his supporters.
The Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has declared that the Minority in Parliament will vehemently oppose any efforts by the Electoral Commission (EC) to eliminate the use of indelible ink in the 2024 polls.
The EC recently disclosed plans to discard the traditional practice of applying indelible ink to voters’ fingers, a method aimed at preventing multiple voting, in favor of more “modern” verification methods.
EC Chairperson Jean Mensa clarified that indelible ink would not be necessary in district-level elections and subsequent polls as part of ongoing efforts to enhance the electoral process.
Expressing strong dissent against this decision, Dr. Ato Forson emphatically stated during a parliamentary session on February 6, 2014, “Mr. Speaker, we will not countenance the elimination of indelible ink from the electoral process. We will not! Read my lips, we will not! Touch wood, we will not.”
The Minority Leader argued that the use of indelible ink in elections has stood the test of time in identifying voters, emphasizing that it would be a mistake for the EC to abandon this established practice.
He asserted that indelible ink contributes to the integrity of elections by ensuring visible, transparent, and physical verification alongside biometric verification.
Dr. Ato Forson underscored the importance of indelible ink, stating,
“The truth of the matter is that the use of indelible ink in our electoral process does no harm to the conduct of free and fair elections in Ghana. In fact, indelible ink adds another layer to the integrity of elections by ensuring that voters are visibly, transparently, and physically verified in addition to biometric verification.
Indelible ink has not only become a feature of our elections in the Fourth Republic, but it is also a time-tested method of easily identifying persons who have already cast their ballot and therefore helps to prevent multiple voting.”
He emphasized that indelible ink has become a consistent feature of elections in the Fourth Republic and serves as a proven method to easily identify individuals who have cast their ballots, thereby preventing multiple voting.
A Ghanaian chef, Ebenezer Smith, who is embarking on a quest to break the existing Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest cooking time, aiming at 1200 hours has reached out to fellow Ghanaians for their support in this ambitious endeavor.
However, amidst his pursuit, he finds himself facing criticism, with some perceiving it as a competition following Chef Faila’s recent 227-hour cook-a-thon.
Expressing deep emotions, Chef Smith clarified that his culinary journey was not a recent decision and urged fellow Ghanaians to empathize with his aspirations.
He emphasized that he commenced his cooking endeavor prior to Chef Faila’s, clarifying that the intention was not to compete but rather to fulfill a personal dream.
In a poignant message post on Tiktok, Chef Smith revealed the emotional toll of negative feedback he is receiving, stating “I started this journey not today but i dont know why Ghanaians keep insulting me. Please understand me , i applied this before Faila eveb started hers. Just forgive me and let me achieve my dreams, this isnt a challenge but a dream😭😭😭🙁 am even crying now guys . Please suport my dream and dont let me cry and fail,” he added.
In the past two months, Ghanaians have shown a notable surge in attempts to set Guinness World Records, showcasing their talent and determination.
Notable individuals like Afua Asantewaa and Chef Faila have made headlines with their record-breaking endeavors, while Executive Chef Ebenezer Smith, also known as Millennium Chef, quietly joins the ranks with his unique cookathon attempt.
Here are some intriguing details about Chef Ebenezer Smith’s ongoing cookathon:
Executive Chef Ebenezer Smith is also recognized as Millennium Chef.
Application History: He first applied for approval from the Guinness World Records in July 2023 but faced initial rejection.
However, his second attempt in September 2023 was successful, securing approval for February 2024.
Commencement Date: The cookathon officially began on February 1, 2024.
Initial Duration: Originally planning to break the record by cooking non-stop for 360 hours (equivalent to 30 days).
Location: The cookathon is taking place at Amadia Shopping Center on the Community 18 Road of Spintex.
Duration Extension: Chef Smith extended his initial 360-hour plan to an impressive 1200 hours, spanning 50 days. This decision was a strategic move to surpass the unofficial record set by a Canadian-based Nigerian, Beauty Obasuyi, who cooked for 448 hours.
Despite these remarkable efforts, Chef Smith’s cookathon has not garnered the expected attention, with online users attributing the lack of enthusiasm to the perception that there was no need to compete with a fellow Ghanaian in the same realm of world records.
It’s worth noting that the current record for the longest cookathon is held by Irish chef Alan Fisher.
As Chef Smith continues his culinary marathon, it remains to be seen if he will emerge victorious and secure a place in the prestigious Guinness World Records.

Students with disabilities from the University of Education, Winneba, and Cape Coast University took to the streets in Accra, staging a protest at the Scholarship Secretariat to demand the prompt release of overdue scholarship funds pledged by the government.
Represented by the Association of Students with Disabilities, the frustrated students argue that the delayed funds are posing a serious threat to their educational pursuits.
The leader of the group, Aminu Mahama, conveyed their concerns to Citi News, stating, “We were told last year that we would be paid…We were more patient with them and most of us did not pay our school fees because we had it in mind that with the scholarship, we would be paid but that did not happen.”
According to the students, the management of their respective universities has issued warnings of course deferment if the promised payments are not received promptly.
In a determined effort to address the issue, the group has declared their intention to spend the night at the Scholarship Secretariat if they do not receive a favorable response.
Aminu Mahama further alleged that the government has consistently failed to fulfill its commitments regarding these scholarships, causing significant distress among the affected students.
“We kept on doing the follow-up this year and so we came here and wanted to know the very day they would be paying us because we were on the verge of deferring our courses and we are now doing everything we can to ensure that the monies are released to ensure we don’t defer our courses,” he added.
The Minister of Local Government, Rural Development, and Decentralisation, Daniel Botwe, has refuted allegations that President Akufo-Addo dismissed 24 District Chief Executives (DCEs) due to their opposition to Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential aspirations.
Rumors circulated suggesting that the former DCEs were ousted to prevent any hindrance to Dr. Bawumia’s bid for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming general election in December 2024.
In an interview with Asaase FM, Mr. Botwe dismissed these claims, categorizing them as unfounded and urged people to disregard such speculation.
”This speculation has no basis at all. Nobody can make this allegation a statement of fact. The President who has worked with these people knows them very well and knows why he’s kicked them out of office.
“One cannot say that DCEs who have been sacked are from areas where Dr. Bawumia didn’t perform well during the NPP flagbearer race. This claim is not supported by any statistics or any facts, so let’s not make such allegations,” he said.
”The President, at any point in time, looks at the team he’s working with and makes changes as he deems necessary to strengthen his government to enable him to meet the aspirations of the people. That is exactly what he’s done with this reshuffle.”
He emphasized that assertions linking the removal of DCEs to regions where Dr. Bawumia performed poorly in the NPP flagbearer race lack statistical support and factual basis.
“The President, at any point in time, looks at the team he’s working with and makes changes as he deems necessary to strengthen his government to enable him to meet the aspirations of the people. That is exactly what he’s done with this reshuffle,” Botwe explained.
On February 2, the President revoked the appointments of 24 DCEs nationwide, without providing an explicit explanation. Some sources suggest that the dismissals were concentrated in regions where Dr. Bawumia faced challenges during the previous year’s primaries.
In a separate statement on February 3, the President appointed 26 new individuals to replace the dismissed DCEs. The statement outlined that the appointments are pending approval by their respective assemblies, in accordance with article 243 (3) of the Constitution.
Beginning today, Tuesday, February 6, a notable change will take effect in parliamentary proceedings as members will kick off sessions by reciting the National Pledge.
This marks the implementation of the new standing orders, bringing forth a significant alteration in the parliamentary protocol.
Under the revised standing orders, heads of state institutions will now be required to personally appear before Parliament to address inquiries related to their agencies.
This departure from the previous standing orders, which allowed Ministers of State to represent the heads of institutions during questioning, represents a fundamental shift in the parliamentary approach.
As part of the procedural changes, Members of Parliament will undergo a roll call and actively participate in reciting the national pledge at the commencement of proceedings.
Ahmed Ibrahim, the First Deputy Minority Whip in Parliament, provided insights into these modifications, underscoring that independent bodies such as the Electoral Commission, CHRAJ boss, BoG governor, NCCE, and the Auditor General will now undergo questioning akin to ministers on the parliamentary floor.
He stated, “Independent bodies like the Electoral Commission, the CHRAJ boss, the BoG governor, NCCE, and the Auditor General are going to be questioned just as we question ministers on the Floor and the mode of answering questions on the Floor has also been provided in the new Standing Orders.
“Previously, if you wanted to invite the EC, they would say he had no audience on the Floor and if the Common Fund administrator needed to come unless the discussion was led by the Minister but this time around, it is not going to be the same.
“The administrator can come and be interrogated by a committee and can be asked questions and he will respond to the questions and the mode of answering the questions has been catered for in the new Standing Orders.”
Ibrahim emphasized that the new standing orders facilitate a more direct engagement with officials from independent bodies, allowing them to be questioned by parliamentary committees, thereby enhancing transparency and accountability in the parliamentary process.
Volta River Authority (VRA) was allegedly engaged in corrupt activities worth $52m dollars in September 2022, under the leadership of CEO Emmanuel Darkwa, according to a report by Ghana Crimes.
The X user, Ghana Crimes, in a post on indicated that VRA submitted a formal request to the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) during the specified month, detailing their intention to procure specific equipment through a sole-source tender.
Ghana’s procurement regulations explicitly state that when a state institution, such as VRA, seeks approval for a sole-source contract award from the PPA, they are prohibited from including any additional third-party companies beyond those initially presented to the Public Procurement Authority.
Notably, the request explicitly named a particular company with which VRA purportedly intended to engage in the procurement process.
However, the situation took an unexpected turn when the approved procurement from the PPA revealed discrepancies.
Contrary to the details presented in VRA’s request, it was disclosed that the specified company was not the exclusive entity with which VRA conducted business.
This apparent deviation from the initial request raises serious concerns, as it constitutes a clear violation of Ghana’s procurement laws.
“In September 2022, VRA, led by CEO Emmanuel Darkwa, submitted a request to the Public Procurement Authority, expressing their intention to acquire certain equipment through a sole-source tender, specifying the particular company with which they planned to engage. However, contrary to what was stated in their request, the approved procurement from the PPA revealed that the mentioned company wasn’t the sole entity with which VRA conducted business,” it stated.
The CEO of VRA, Mr. Emmanuel Darkwa who ideally should be on retirement because he is 63 years is still at post with no contract.
Adding complexity to this revelation is the fact that VRA, the entity in direct communication with the PPA, allegedly failed to reach out to the manufacturer explicitly mentioned in their initial letter as the intended partner for the procurement.
The disclosed contract amount for this transaction is a substantial $52 million, further amplifying the gravity of the situation.
“This is a clear violation to Ghana’s procurement laws which suggests that when a state institution writes to PPA to seek for approval for a sole source contracts award, they do not add up any other third party company to what has already been presented to the Public Procurement Authority. What makes this disclosure intriguing is that VRA, the entity that communicated with the PPA, did not reach out to the manufacturer explicitly mentioned in their letter as their intended partner. The contract amount stood at $52 million,” it added.
A private citizen and four chiefs of Ada have filed two separate lawsuits seeking an injunction to stop Electrochem Ghana Limited from mining salt at Ada in the Greater Accra Region.
Noble Wadzah, a former Chairman of the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) and Nene Amartey Korley, Chief of Aminapah and three other chiefs, also want the High Court to, among other reliefs, declare the lease granted Electrochem illegal.
Joined to the legal action are the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, State Interest and Governance Authority (SIGA), Minerals Commission and the Ada East District Assembly.
The plaintiffs’ case is anchored on the grounds that the Electrochem deal was in gross violation of PNDC Law 287 and the Master Plan for the development of the salt industry in the Ada area. They are also claiming that the lease is an affront to the rights of indigenes who have lived within the Songhor Salt enclave for centuries.
They also accused Electrochem of violating some terms of the lease agreement.
PIAC former Chairman’s case
In his suit filed before an Accra High Court, Mr Wadzah said the legal action was prompted by a letter from the district assembly directing salt miners on the Ada Songhor Lagoon site to vacate by December 31, 2023.
He wants a judicial review of the lease agreement and a declaration by the court that the Electrochem lease is illegal, particularly when the company’s obligations in the lease do not conform with PNDCL 287 and the Master Plan.
Mr Wadzah argues that Electrochem was required by the lease agreement to pay GHS2.3 million, which is 10% of the offer price of the lease as a deposit by August 31, 2021.
Court documents show that it was not until September 7, 2021, that Mr Daniel McKorley, Executive Chairman of the McDan Group wrote to the branch manager of ADB Head Office, to request the transfer of the said amount to SIGA to make the deposit on behalf of Electrochem, which is a subsidiary of the McDan Group.
Mr Wadzah also argues in his lawsuit, failure to make the deposit by the agreed date meant that Electrochem was in breach of the lease agreement.
Further, Mr Wadzah stated that President Nana Akufo-Addo, who holds the Songhor Lagoon salt deposits in trust for the owners, must ensure that the salt is mined, and the salt industry developed in compliance with PNDC Law 287.
President Akufo-Addo was at the commissioning of the Electrochem Project in August last year.
He said a cursory look at Electrochem’s business plan showed that it had no plans to operate with the master plan for the area but rather to completely marginalise and eliminate small-scale mining at the lagoon site.
“The Interested Party’s [Electrochem] acts of impunity have been fueled by the failure of the second and third respondents [Minerals Commission and SIGA] to ensure that the lease granted to the Interested Party and the divestiture respectively were granted in accordance with the law,” he added.
Chiefs’ suit
The case of the four chiefs is that they and their community stand to suffer greater hardship and irreparable damage if the Minerals Commission, the Ada East Assembly and Electrochem are not restrained from their lands until the final determination of the case.
In their case filed before the Tema High Court on January 17, 2024, the chiefs claim that the government knew that the Terkpebiawe clan owned the Songhor Lagoon.
According to the chiefs, although they had responded to a notice published by the Minerals Commission, indicating that their lives could be affected by the lease, the government failed to consult the principal members of the Terkpebiawe Clan but went ahead to grant the lease to Electrochem on October 29, 2020.
Artisanal salt miners in Ada say they’ve mined the commodity in the Songhor lagoon for centuries but are being ejected because of Electrochem
“Our villages fall within the concession area and the indigenes of the villages have put up properties in the said areas. The properties in these villages include houses, schools, churches and other structures put up by the indigenes for the commercial activities,” they said.
The chiefs noted that although the Ada East District Assembly knew of the concession granted Electrochem, it kept issuing business permits to indigenes to win salt. The permits gave the indigenes the green-light to put up structures and buy machines to facilitate their salt-winning activities.
“The defendants are aware of the fact that Parliament is re-examining the agreement between the State and the third defendant [Electrochem] but the defendants continue to intimidate and oppress the indigenes with the sole purpose of getting them out of their land even though they have not put in place any plan of resettling them,” the plaintiffs said.
Citing an example of the harassment their communities were suffering, the chiefs said on December 14, 2023, the district assembly “ordered all persons occupying the lands within concession area to vacate the land for the third defendant [Electrochem].”

The leader of the Movement for Change, Alan John Kojo Kyerematen has stated that vice president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has been given ample opportunities by President Akufo-Addo to contribute to the development of Ghana.
But he believes that the vice president who is also the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has failed in managing the country’s economy effectively.
In an interview with TV3, Alan Kyerematen he attributed the economic challenges faced by the country to the vice president’s performance. According to him, Dr. Bawumia is tired and lacks the capacity to introduce fresh ideas or initiatives. “Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the vice president. He has had all the opportunity, working with the president to do whatever he can do in this country. “And let me be very fair to the sitting president, the sitting president has been fair to the vice president. He (Akufo-Addo) has given him (Bawumia) all the opportunity to run this country,” he said in an interview on TV3 on Monday, February 6, 2024. Alan indicated that Dr. Bawumia is responsible for the current state of Ghana’s economy, saying that he (the vice president) has proven that he cannot manage the economy. “The man is tired; there is nothing new he can do and that is a fact,” he stressed. Mr Kyerematen who was once a staunch member of the NPP parted ways with party on Monday September 25, 2023 after he cited reasons such as electoral irregularities, unfair treatment, and bias during the superdelegates’ conference held on August 26, 2023.
Subsequently, he announced his candidature for the 2024 presidential election as an independent candidate.
Mr Kyerematen first resigned from the party in 2008 following attacks on his supporters after the NPP held its 2007 presidential primaries.
Mr Kyerematen has been an active member of the NPP since its establishment in 1992.

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, delivered a compelling address at the 30th anniversary of the Investing in African Mining Indaba in Cape Town on Monday, February 5.
With a resounding call to “Invest in the number one mining destination of Africa,” the Minister positioned Ghana as the undisputed mining hub of the continent.
Highlighting Ghana’s mining legacy of over a century, Minister Jinapor underscored the diverse mineral wealth the country possesses, including gold, diamond, bauxite, manganese, lithium, iron ore, copper, zinc, nickel, chrome, lead, and salt.
“We have three (3) new gold mines currently under construction, one by Newmont in the middle belt of the country, and two in Northern Ghana, by Cardinal Namdini and Azumah Resources, with Cardinal Namdini’s Project expected to pour its first gold this year. With these new mines, and the expansion of existing ones, we expect to increase gold output to some four point five million ounces (4,500,000 oz), annually,” he explained.
Emphasizing Ghana’s leadership in gold production on the continent, he reported an unprecedented four million ounces produced last year, with plans for expansion and the addition of three new gold mines.
The Minister invited investors to explore new gold deposits in the Savannah Region, challenging the conventional notion that gold was exclusive to the southern part of Ghana.
Minister Jinapor detailed Ghana’s commitment to value addition in mineral resources, including the construction of a 400kg capacity gold refinery. Progress toward securing a London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) certification with South Africa’s Rand Refinery was disclosed.
Beyond gold, the Minister highlighted Ghana’s strategic leverage of over nine hundred million metric tonnes of bauxite resources to build an integrated aluminum industry. Initiatives such as the construction of a $450 million manganese refinery and the establishment of the Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Development Corporation (GIISDEC) were emphasized for harnessing iron ore resources.
Addressing the lithium market, the Minister affirmed Ghana’s commitment to value addition, echoing a firm stance against the raw export of lithium resources in alignment with Ghana’s Green Minerals Policy.
Minister Jinapor emphasized Ghana’s dedication to using mining as a catalyst for sustainable development, citing policy and legislative reforms since 2017 prioritizing efficient exploitation, environmental protection, value addition, local content, and local participation.
The government aims to shift from the traditional “dig and ship” model to a new era of beneficiation.
Highlighting opportunities across the entire mining value chain, the Minister presented Ghana’s strategic location and the benefits of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) as key advantages for investors.
“And if we have not said it loud enough, permit me to repeat, Ladies and Gentlemen, under NO circumstance will we export our lithium resources in their raw state,” he stressed.
Assuring the global investor community of Ghana’s readiness for business, Minister Jinapor positioned Ghana as an attractive investment destination with ease of access to geological information, transparent governance institutions, and highly skilled mining personnel.
He wooed investors on the global scale to join in the exciting journey towards sustainable and mutually beneficial mining ventures in Ghana.
The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Samuel A Jinapor has urged African countries to make investment opportunities attractive for investors while insisting on the importance of value addition for the growth of their country’s mineral infrastructure.
He stressed the need to move away from the “dig and ship” approach and highlighted two essential pillars to help achieve that: first he said is insisting on value addition, and local participation and two is ensuring that states and governments provide the necessary infrastructure and environment, including cadastre and other facilitated systems, for investors to operate, optimize, and maximize benefits shared equitably.
The Minister emphasized, “You cannot achieve value addition or participate at the highest end of the value chain if the government doesn’t establish a proper, investor-friendly environment. It’s crucial, and governments must prioritize this.”
The Minister was Contributing to a Ministerial Symposium panel discussion on the topic; “Pushing Africa into a new investment era with solutions to the continent’s greatest challenges” at the ongoing “African Mining Indaba” conference in Cape Town, South Africa, on Sunday, 4th February, 2024.
He added that fundamental elements, such as a solid and consistent rail system, reliable infrastructure, and power systems, must be in place to attract private entities effectively.
Using Ghana as a case study, he explained that governments should have a policy framework where both the state and investors play their roles. For instance, in the context of bauxite, Ghana is working towards building an integrated aluminum industry, with a policy framework supervised by President Akufo-Addo to exploit and manage resources effectively.
The Minister highlighted Ghana’s efforts to strike a balance between value addition and indigenous participation on one hand and the importance of a mutually satisfactory arrangement for all parties involved on the other hand.
He acknowledged the challenge some African countries face with changing government policies but stressed the need for sustainable policies in the continent’s best interest.
Addressing private sector participation and investment in Ghana, the Minister mentioned the successful establishment of an automobile industry, attributing it to a sensible policy framework that aligns with the primary goal of private sector investments – making a profit.
He advocated for synchronizing policy frameworks across Africa to universally promote value addition. The Minister referred to the African Mining Vision as a guiding principle and cited the joint effort of Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire in structuring a common market pricing on cocoa as a positive example of African collaboration for growth.
Hon. Jinapor and the other panelists in the end agreed that the new perspective on mining sector investment in Africa, should be envisioning a shift from the “rich Africa with poor Africans” model to one resulting in “rich Africans from rich Africa,” catalyzed by mining.
The Ministerial Symposium is a high-level, invite-only policy roundtable, that brings together Mining Ministers to develop and discuss a shared vision for Africa’s future sustainable mining and mineral value supply chains. The Symposium aims to strengthen collaboration between government, investors, and the private sector in order to improve bilateral relationships across the continent.

Imagine enduring a prolonged penile erection without any sexual stimulation—a condition causing anguish, discomfort, and disrupting urinary tracts, hindering the ability to pass urine.
While priapism may seem confined to the medical realm, its implications extend beyond physical health.
For those affected, it can impact psychological well-being and overall quality of life significantly.
Despite its relatively low prevalence compared to other medical conditions, the seriousness of priapism cannot be overstated. Swift medical attention is essential to prevent potential complications such as tissue damage, erectile dysfunction, or, in severe cases, loss of life.
This condition is particularly prevalent in men with sickle cell disease, where sickled red blood cells block the outflow of blood during an erection, leading to a prolonged state.
If left untreated, priapism can cause permanent damage to the penis and erectile dysfunction. Academic research defines priapism as persistent, painful, and abnormal swelling of the penis unrelated to sexual stimulation, often resulting in painful erection.
The accumulation of blood in the cavernous sinusoids during priapism leads to irreversible fibrosis and destruction of erectile tissue, culminating in permanent erectile dysfunction if the erection persists for more than 24 to 48 hours.
Men with sickle cell disease are particularly prone to this condition due to their abnormal blood cell shape. The crescent-like shape of sickled red blood cells hinders the normal flow of blood during an erection, increasing the likelihood of priapism.
Various treatments exist for priapism, including the application of cold lotions and the use of drugs like potassium bromide to reduce sexual desire. If conventional methods fail, surgical intervention is considered to create a shunt between the penile tissue and the vein, bypassing the obstructed blood cells.
Prompt intervention is crucial, as appropriate treatment varies based on whether the priapism is low-flow or high-flow, aiming to prevent long-term erectile dysfunction.

Representing Yaa Naa, Naa Jacob Mahama conveyed, “I believe you’re not coming to make more money for your family but to leave a legacy that not only your children will be proud of but will pave the way for them wherever they may find themselves in the future when you are long gone to your maker.”

“The most important thing for you at this stage of your political life is to be able to tell who your true friends are from the opportunistic ones. You were there once, and it shouldn’t be difficult for you to understand,” he advised.

Yaa-Naa Abukari II, the paramount leader of Dagbon, has advised John Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, to consistently reshuffle his appointees in order to assemble the most capable individuals to govern effectively if elected.
Yaa-Naa emphasized that this strategic approach is crucial for achieving the goals of a political comeback in 2025.
In a speech delivered on February 5, he urged Mahama not to hesitate in rearranging his team based on merit and competence, even if it means replacing loyalists who may not contribute positively to the government.
“When you get the nod from Ghanaians, do not shy away from reshuffling your team to get the right ones on board by merits and competence and lay off even loyalists but misfits who will only churn out mediocrity for your government,” he said.
The Yaa-Naa added, “This applies especially to your cabinet because they in reality rule you and the country. That will be a mistake no Ghanaian will forgive you if you happen to be the chosen one.”
“I believe you are not coming to make more money for your family but to leave a legacy that your children will not only be proud of but will pave the way for them wherever they find themselves in the future when you are long gone to your maker,” he added.
The Dagbon overlord stressed the importance of a competent cabinet, stating that they play a significant role in governing the country effectively.
He warned Mahama that Ghanaians would not forgive him if he failed to present a competent government.
Yaa-Naa encouraged the former President to focus on building a lasting legacy rather than accumulating wealth for his family and friends.
He expressed the belief that Mahama’s purpose should be to leave a legacy that his children would be proud of and that would benefit them in the future.
In response, John Mahama praised Yaa-Naa for his efforts in restoring peace to Dagbon and acknowledged the importance of addressing security issues.
He pledged to address the delayed water treatment facility in the area and assured Yaa-Naa that, if elected, his administration would prioritize the completion of the Yendi Water Supply Project.
Mahama also conducted a town hall meeting at Yendi Senior High School as part of his engagement with the community.
The Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II, has cautioned the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, against amassing wealth if he secures re-election in the upcoming 2024 polls.
Yaa Naa emphasized the importance of prioritizing a meaningful legacy over personal wealth in the event of assuming power again.
These remarks were conveyed during a courtesy visit by John Mahama to the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi, where the Yaa Naa, represented by Naa Jacob Mahama, offered advice.
Naa Jacob Mahama stated, “I believe you’re not coming to make more money for your family but to leave a legacy that not only your children will be proud of but will pave the way for them wherever they may find themselves in the future when you are long gone to your maker.”

Yaa Naa highlighted the significance of identifying true allies, drawing from Mahama’s past experiences.
John Mahama commenced his ‘Building Ghana Tour’ on Monday, February 5, 2024, covering Mion, Gushegu, and Yendi constituencies in the Northern Region. The second day of the tour includes engagements in the four constituencies within the Tamale Township, namely Tamale Central, Tamale North, Tamale South, and Sagnarigu constituencies.

The National Democratic Congress’ 2024 flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has declared that the new Black Stars will prioritize home-grown players.
This announcement was made during his “Building The Ghana We Want Tour” in the Northern Region as part of his presidential campaign.
Mahama aims to replace the outgoing Ghanaian President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
In recent years, the Black Stars’ performance has been disappointing, culminating in a first-round exit from the 2023 AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire.
Ghana’s inability to secure a win in three matches led to their elimination at the group stage for the second consecutive edition of the AFCON.
Speaking to a gathered audience, the NDC presidential candidate outlined his commitment to shaping the Black Stars under his leadership by focusing on home-grown talents who have excelled within the revitalized Ghanaian football structure.
“We will build the new Black Stars based on homegrown players. Domestic players who have trained together for a long time and work as a team, and then we will bring in the foreign ones to blend with them.”
“The core of the Black Stars must be made up of domestic players who have played together for a long time… We are going to overhaul Ghana football in collaboration with the Ghana Football Association.”
A 42-year-old sickle cell patient, Stephen Danquah, is grappling with priapism, a rare and distressing condition causing a prolonged and painful erection for two days without sexual stimulation.
Danquah, unable to urinate or find relief, expressed his agony to Accra-based TV3, contemplating suicide due to the unbearable pain.
Neglected by fearful family members, Mr Danquah struggles to raise funds for medication and surgery advised by Korle Bu Teaching Hospital doctors, warning of potential life-threatening consequences if untreated.
“I have an erection which has not been able to go down for two days. Then also I am suffering with my scrotum and my penis. I am not able to pass urine or even get to sleep. I have been crying since.
“Even my family members don’t want to come closer to me because of my condition. As a result, I have been struggling to get money to take care of myself, get medications or go for a review. I was told by the hospital, Korle Bu, to at least try and get the surgery done otherwise, I would lose my life.
“… Because of the pain I am going through, sometimes, I get the urge to take my life because I am in pain. At the moment, I am not bothered about where to sleep, I am only concerned about how to get this off me,” he explained.
Facing immense pain, Danquah has contemplated suicide, prioritizing treatment over basic needs.
A urologist highlighted priapism’s impact on sickle cell patients, emphasizing its concern for both short and long-term effects on their lives.

Atick Yakubu, a member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Communications Team, has articulated why, in his opinion, Energy Minister, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh is the most suitable candidate to team up with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the 2024 elections.
According to Mr Yakubu, the energy minister has demonstrated his capabilities since entering the political arena, making him the deserving candidate for the NPP’s victory in 2024.
He asserted that Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh’s successful implementation of the Free SHS policy, despite its challenges, showcases his courage and action-oriented approach, making him a valuable addition to the NPP ticket.
In Yakubu’s view, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh’s unique qualities include boldness, lack of pretentiousness, open-mindedness, and confidence. He emphasizes that these attributes allow Opoku Prempeh to effectively convey the concerns of grassroots to potential leaders.
Yakubu supports Opoku Prempeh’s candidacy by highlighting the minister’s boldness and action-driven nature, particularly evidenced by his successful implementation of the Free SHS policy.
He believes that Opoku Prempeh’s achievements and innovative approaches, such as the double-track system, make him stand out among other potential running mates.
Concluding his opinion, Yakubu expresses his preference for Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh over other contenders, emphasizing the minister’s boldness and action-oriented character, which he believes will complement Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia effectively.
Read his opinion below:
A friend asked why I haven’t shared my opinion on the Running mate to DMB and I said this wasn’t an issue that’s why I have been mute. Not to be cheeky nor overly confident but it’s obvious Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO ) ticks all the requirements. It’s just as obvious that DMB going to be the Presidential candidate of NPP post-Nana Addo Presidency. In politics, at times, research is not needed. The Euphoria alone is enough data.
All those with interest in the Running mate position have either been MPs, former ministers, Ministers, or heads of agencies and organizations. The icing on the cake this time is someone from Ashanti Region and there’s no Ashanti as qualified as a Royal. I support the call from the region. But wait, what makes NAPO special? HE IS BOLD AND ACTION DRIVEN. Bold in the sense that he’s not pretentious, open-minded, and confident. Someone who can speak the mind of the grassroots to the will be president and ministers. NAPO is Bold. You can’t take that away from him.
All those seeking to be Running mates have chalked some success being it in politics or private life but what makes NAPO special in terms of achievement, what makes him stand tall? NAPO implemented the Free SHS policy. He was the minister who implemented FREE SHS with a brilliant innovation that curbed inadequate accommodation and infrastructure issues at our SHS. The double-track system was brilliant. Yeah, not even the opposition can’t Pooh Pooh on the Free SHS policy. It takes an action-driven person to successfully implement a flagship program. You ask me why I would choose him over anyone? I say he’s BOLD and ACTION DRIVEN. He will best compliment Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Independent presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections, Dr. Sam Ankrah, has underscored the significance of prioritizing the well-being and development of the country’s youth over natural resources like oil, gas, or gold.
In a meeting with media practitioners at his campaign office in Accra, Dr. Ankrah, a global business strategist and development economist, stressed the need for creating a system that harnesses the untapped potential of the younger generation.
He emphasized that if the youth are deemed more valuable than the country’s mineral resources, efforts should be directed towards preparing them for future responsibilities, and the government should take on this responsibility.
“If our youth are more valuable than our oil, gas, or gold we are mining then let’s create a system to harness these untapped resources as a country,” he added.
Discussing his Affordable Ghana campaign, focused on transparent and accountable leadership, Dr. Ankrah urged young people to support his initiative and actively engage in holding political candidates accountable.
He promised to present a youth policy document encompassing a comprehensive scheme catering to every young person in the country, with a commitment to ensuring full-time employment, apprenticeship, or education for every young person above 18 by his second year in office.
As a seasoned economist and investment banker, Dr. Ankrah highlighted the importance of active civic responsibility and engagement for a thriving democracy.
He emphasized that achieving an empowering atmosphere for Ghanaian citizens requires adherence to the rule of law, efficient government institutions, and a robust fight against corruption.
Dr. Ankrah encouraged the younger generation to maintain optimism for the nation’s future and be innovative in supporting his ten-point plan, which aims to challenge the political duopoly of the National People’s Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ghana’s governance history.
The King of Dagbon, Ya-Na Abubakari Mahama II, has counseled former President John Dramani Mahama to regard Vice President Dr. Bawumia not as an adversary but as a brother.
Ya-Na stressed the importance of this perspective to ensure a respectful and non-inflammatory campaign leading up to the 2024 general elections.
“You have no other brother out there besides him (Bawumia). Being on the opposite side of the political divide does not make you enemies”
During a courtesy visit by former President Mahama as part of his ‘Building Ghana Tour,’ Ya-Na, through a representative, emphasized that both the NPP flagbearer and the NDC flagbearer are like sons to him and should conduct themselves with decorum.
This guidance follows comments made by the former President, referring to President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia as “Jack Toronto and his younger brother.”
Ya-Na urged the NDC flagbearer to acknowledge that Vice President Bawumia is his only brother on the political stage, underscoring that political differences should not make them enemies.
He further called on both former President Mahama and Dr. Bawumia to ensure a peaceful election in the upcoming year, recognizing that only Allah knows the ultimate winner.
Former President Mahama visited Yendi to inform the Ya-Na of his presence in the region and to seek permission to tour selected constituencies.
Local Government Expert, Dr. Frederick Oduro, has suggested that President Akufo-Addo’s decision to dismiss twenty-four District Chief Executives (DCEs) is likely linked to the upcoming general elections.
While the president is not obligated to provide reasons for these decisions, Dr. Oduro speculates that such moves may have been made in consultation with party leadership.
President Akufo-Addo removed the appointments of DCEs, including Isaac Kwadwo Boabeng of Nsawam-Adoagyiri and Daniel Alexander Nii-Noi Adumua of Adentan, in accordance with constitutional and legislative provisions.
“I write to inform you that I have revoked the appointment of the following as District Chief Executives.
“I respectfully request that you give immediate effect to my directive. I will, under a separate cover, write to you to nominate their replacement.”
Dr. Oduro, speaking on TV3’s Weekend Central, stated, “It is almost certainly related to the upcoming general elections in November and December.”
He suggested that, based on the ongoing political landscape, the dismissals might be connected to certain DCEs not supporting the president’s favored candidates in parliamentary primaries.
Dr. Oduro emphasized that the president, though not obliged to disclose reasons, likely made these decisions with some level of consultation within the NPP party, as indicated by statements from a former General Secretary.
Ultimately, however, the prerogative for such appointments lies with the president.
“It is almost certainly related to the upcoming general elections.
“Ultimately I believe that the decision by the president to revoke these appointments has so much to do with the upcoming general elections in November and December.
“The interesting part is that the president is under no obligation to give reasons for his appointment, neither is he required to give reasons for revocation of appointment.
So at this point, we can only look at what is happening in the system and based on that assessment it will not be far-fetched to include that certain MMDCEs chose not to support the president’s favorites [in the parliamentary primaries]. However, I don’t think the president will take these decisions without some level of consultation within the NPP as a party because if you have a whole former General Secretary to come out to talk about the fact that some people feel tired and they must be relieved, it presupposes that the party itself might have had a hand in those who should stay and those who should leave. But of course the prerogative lies with the president.”
The Director of the Legal Directorate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Edudzi Tameklo, has emphasized that Ghana’s financial challenges stem not from revenue shortfalls but from the mismanagement and wastage of accrued state revenues.
In an interview on The Big Issues with Roland Walker on TV3 on February 5, Mr. Tameklo commented on the government’s reported withdrawal of the proposal to impose a 15% VAT on residential electricity consumers.
The Trades Union Congress (TUC) and affiliated labor unions had announced plans for a nationwide demonstration on February 13 if the government did not reverse the directive by the Ministry of Finance to the Electricity Company of Ghana.
“Consistent with the dishonest character of this Bawumia/Akufo-Addo administration immediately organized labour said they were going to protest, government’s assigns and hype men decided to go on this trajectory by saying that they were going to drop it.
“Organized Labour, I want to put before you today that this government is so dishonest that the only reason why they want to drop this 15 percent ECG VAT is simply because of the election ahead and that should you make the mistake of voting for them to remain in power they will go back for this 15 % VAT. This is a government that said in the midst of Covid 19 that they were giving us free water, free electricity, immediately they got elected in 2020 they imposed Covid levy on us,” he said.
Government sources later revealed that the proposal would not be implemented. According to Mr. Tameklo, “No government has collected more taxes than the Akufo-Addo government. They have obtained substantial revenue from Ghanaians. Our problem is not a lack of revenue; it is pervasive corruption, waste, and the government’s extreme recklessness.”
He argued that the withdrawal of the VAT is a political maneuver ahead of the 2024 elections. Mr. Tameklo accused the government of being dishonest, stating, “This government is so dishonest that the only reason they want to drop this 15 percent ECG VAT is simply because of the upcoming election. Should you make the mistake of voting for them to remain in power, they will reintroduce this 15% VAT.” He also highlighted past instances of promises made during the COVID-19 pandemic, such as free water and electricity, being followed by the imposition of a COVID levy after the 2020 election.
Legal expert, has explained his reluctance to respond to the summons from the Kumasi Traditional Council, asserting that he has already extended his apology through a formal letter.
During an interview on Kasapa FM, he revealed that, before the situation escalated, he had written a letter through Wontumi TV’s management expressing regret for any offense caused by his comments.
Mr Ampaw stated that he also personally apologized to the Kumasi chiefs during a broadcast on Asempa FM.
“I have already apologised to the Kumasi Traditional Council through a letter over the my derogatory remarks I made towards them so I don’t see the essence of going there I have already apologised to them, all those criticising me most of you lack manners, I have issued an apology in a form of letter through Chairman Wontumi’s management. I stated that whatever remarks which by anyway has offended elders they should forgive me. That letter went earlier before we were summoned. I have personally offered an apology on Asempa FM,” he added.
He urged his critics to refrain from further criticism, emphasizing that he has already taken the necessary steps to address the situation.
The Kumasi Traditional Council issued a one-week ultimatum to the NPP leadership to present Chairman Wontumi, also known as Bernard Antwi Boasiako, before the Manhyia Palace.
This directive follows alleged derogatory remarks made by Chairman Wontumi about the Asantehene approximately two weeks ago.
Chairman Wontumi was expected to appear alongside Lawyer Maurice Ampaw, who is similarly accused of making derogatory statements on radio.
The lawyer strongly criticized the chiefs of the Ashanti Kingdom for summoning Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi.
During an appearance on the ‘Mmra ne Abrabo’ show on Wontumi TV, the lawyer accused the chiefs of engaging in questionable activities such as theft and girlfriend snatching.
He contended that these chiefs are unworthy of discussing Chairman Wontumi, citing allegations of multiple land sales among them.
As of now, Chairman Wontumi together with some officials from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) honored the summons from the chiefs.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Madam Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, has committed to revitalizing the Free-trade Agreement among Commonwealth nations if elected as the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Secretariat.
She emphasized that a successful free-trade agreement would foster integration, global and regional supply chain participation, and enhance engagement in the multilateral trading system for member states.
Speaking in Accra at a lecture titled “A Vision for a New Commonwealth in a Fast-Evolving World,” organized by the Council on Foreign Relations Ghana, Madam Botchwey proposed that the initiative could serve as a model for WTO members, offering a balanced approach to regional and multilateral trade integration.
Nominated by President Akufo-Addo on February 2, 2024, for the post of Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Madam Botchwey outlined the evolving global landscape, citing advanced negotiations between the United Kingdom and India, as well as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), as opportunities to consolidate agreements towards a Commonwealth-wide free trade agreement.
“To be transformative, any such trade and development agreement has to respond to the development needs and challenges of the developing countries in the Commonwealth,” she said.
She stressed the importance of any trade and development agreement addressing the needs of developing countries within the Commonwealth.
Madam Botchwey called for increased aid for trade disbursements to boost productive capacity, encouraging developed members to invest in developing states, with specific consideration for the Pacific Island States, the Caribbean, and small states in both service and non-service sectors.
“Developed Commonwealth members and other donor partners should maintain and enhance non-reciprocal preferential market access mechanisms like duty-free, quota-free, flexible rules of origin, and preferential treatment for services and service suppliers from small developing states to facilitate their integration in regional and global value chains,” she said.
Madam Botchwey urged developed Commonwealth members to maintain and enhance preferential market access mechanisms for small developing states.
She emphasized the Commonwealth’s role in supporting the specific needs of small island states in fishery subsidy negotiations at the WTO, highlighting the critical role of ocean sustainability for their development.
“The Commonwealth should support the specific needs and concerns of small island states in fishery subsidy negotiations at the WTO.”
“Ocean sustainability in general and sustainable fishing stocks and practices are critical to the development of the ocean economy in island states and especially to the millions of mostly poor people who make their living by fishing.”
Additionally, she underscored the significance of services like health insurance, medical data, and banking in fostering integration and creating economic prosperity within the Commonwealth.
The Commonwealth, consisting of 56 nations, focuses on shared goals of prosperity, democracy, and peace, with the Commonwealth Secretariat coordinating much of its work.
Objectives include environmental protection, sustainable resource use, economic development, democracy support, and assistance to small states in addressing unique challenges.
Member of Parliament (MP) for Tema West, Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah, has advised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to take decisive actions to bring back its former member, Alan Kyerematen if they aspire to secure victory in the 2024 presidential elections.
During a panel discussion on UTV on Monday, February 5, 2024, he passionately urged NPP members to consider reaching out to Alan and even suggested going to great lengths, including kneeling, to persuade him to rejoin the party.
Mr Ahenkorah expressed concern that if Alan Kyerematen, who is now the leader of the Movement for Change, proceeds with his plan to run as an independent candidate could significantly impact the party’s votes in 2024, especially in its stronghold, the Ashanti Region.
“At this juncture, if we allow him to continue what he is doing, it would really affect the fortunes of the NPP. No one can tell me that if we should have the 2024 election, today, Mr Alan Kyerematen does not have footprints across the country to get a lot of votes.
“The man (Alan) is not an ordinary politician. He has been in politics since the beginning of the 4th Republic and has been active since then… at a point, he was the main contender for the flagbearership position. If I’m not mistaken, he has been in all the constituencies in Ghana more than 6 or 7 times,” he said in Twi during a panel discussion on UTV on Monday, February 5, 2024.
The MP added, “It is better late than never… I’m pleading with you NPP members if we have to go on our knees to beg Alan let us do it”.
He emphasized the need for NPP leadership to humbly request Alan’s return, emphasizing that the party cannot afford to let him continue independently, as it would adversely affect their chances in the upcoming election.
Mr Ahenkorah highlighted Alan Kyerematen’s extensive political experience, spanning the entire Fourth Republic, and stressed his significant influence across the country.

During his ‘Building the Ghana We Want Tour’ in the Northern Region on Monday, February 5, 2024, John Dramani Mahama, the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), paid a courtesy call on Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II, the Overlord of Dagbon, at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi.
Mahama assured Yaa Naa that, if elected, his government would prioritize resolving water scarcity in Dagbon.
He expressed disappointment over the stalled Yendi Water Supply Project initiated during his tenure, criticizing the current government for its lack of progress on the project.
Mahama also promised to address the prevailing insecurity in Dagbon, particularly the rise in armed robberies, if the NDC regains power in 2025.
He emphasized the importance of ensuring safety for the people of Dagbon, allowing them to live and work without fear of harm.
Furthermore, Mahama pledged to revive the Eastern Corridor Roads project, which has experienced delays under the current government. He committed to completing the project to facilitate travel for the people of Yendi, eliminating the need to pass through Tamale when journeying to the southern part of Ghana.
Private legal practitioner, Maurice Ampaw has asserted that the late founder of Gracegift Herbal Clinic, Grace Boadu, faced familial challenges and was not embraced by her family.
According to him, internal conflicts arose because Dr. Boadu did not provide assistance to any of her relatives.
The deceased according to him, faced both spiritual and physical opposition from her family.
He further revealed that, owing to the actions of certain family members, Grace’s mother intervened to prevent her from maintaining contact with them.
During an interview on Kasapa FM, he claimed that not supporting her family posed a challenge for her, as she did not receive the expected familial backing.
Lawyer Ampaw also alleged that Dr Boadu’s family obstructed her romantic endeavors, discouraging potential suitors due to suspicions of financial motives.
“Her family doesn’t support her, her family arose against her because they thought it was right for her to help them. Her mother was protecting her over the family. No uncles or aunties came close to her to the extent that I spoke to them. They prevented her suitors from marrying her because they said those individuals were in for her money,” he added.
Dr. Boadu, a renowned herbal medicine practitioner, was discovered dead in her bathroom at her Tantra Hills residence in Accra on Monday, January 29, 2024.

Parliament has directed the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) to compensate farmers who incurred losses due to the avian influenza or Bird Flu outbreak between 2015 and 2018.
As per the 2022 Auditor General’s Report, a substantial portion of the earmarked compensation funds, exceeding GH¢1.8 million, remains unutilized in the Ministry’s account.
While the Ministry argues that the funds are undistributed due to a lack of necessary details from affected farmers, the Public Accounts Committee, led by Chairman James Klutse Avedzi, has mandated the Agriculture Ministry to identify the affected farmers and disburse the funds within the next month.
During a Public Accounts Committee session, Avedzi instructed, “I am sure you have a list of the farms that are affected and a certificate for destroying the birds as well. All that you need is to have the affected farmers’ bank details to do the transfer and I am sure that you have the contact details of these farmers.
“So we are giving you one month to disburse the monies to them quickly. Call them so that they will give their bank details so you can do the transfer for them.”
In a lighthearted and jovial exchange, renowned political analyst, Kwesi Pratt, has expressed his happiness at meeting Ghana’s next potential President, teasing presidential hopeful Kofi Percival Akpaloo.
Mr Akpaloo, who leads the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), is among the personalities eyeing the nation’s highest office.
Kwesi Pratt, known for his insightful commentary and witty remarks, added a touch of humor to the political atmosphere during an informal meeting with Akpaloo on Peace FM.
“I’m happy to meet Ghana’s next president of Ghana, if not you where would we have met the next president of Ghana,” he stated.
However, Mr Akpaloo has asserted that a divine revelation in a dream has affirmed his destiny as the next President of Ghana in 2025.
Known for his track record of dream prophecies coming true, Mr Akpaloo expressed unwavering optimism in God’s revelation.
During an interview he confidently declares his victory in the 2024 presidential election, asserting that his party is the emerging political force in Ghana.
He claimed that God has consistently disclosed election outcomes to him, strengthening his conviction.
Reflecting on the recent “Afrafanto Walk” organized by the Movement for Change in Kumasi, Akpaloo predicts surpassing their attendance in his future events. He dismisses the Movement for Change’s potential impact in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

In the aftermath of the Black Stars’ disappointing exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), seasoned commentator and political analyst, Kwesi Pratt, has raised eyebrows about the commitment of Ghana Football Association (GFA) officials to national teams.
The Ghanaian national football team’s underwhelming performance in the AFCON tournament has sparked criticism and introspection.
Kwesi Pratt, known for his candid opinions, expressed his skepticism during a recent interview, suggesting that some GFA officials may not genuinely support teams representing Ghana.
The AFCON exit has prompted calls for a comprehensive review of the country’s football structure, from grassroots development to national team management.
Kwesi Pratt also raised a pertinent question about the allegiance of Ghana Football Association (GFA) officials, asserting that their preference for international teams like Chelsea may be indicative of a broader issue affecting the nation’s football landscape.
Mr Pratt expressed his conviction that if GFA officials were asked about their favorite teams, they would likely mention renowned international clubs rather than local teams.
“Our focus is on foreign football, and this raises concerns about how we can excel in nurturing and promoting our national teams,” he remarked.
The veteran commentator emphasized the need for a more localized approach in the development and support of Ghanaian football. Pratt voiced his concerns over the composition of the Black Stars team, urging for a reflection of Ghana’s identity in the coaching staff, players, and overall team culture.
“GFA officials I am sure when you ask them which team they support they will mention international teams like Chelsea and the likes. Our focus is on foreign football, how can we excel in our team. The BlackStars team should reflect in the coaches, the players etc. They are some players who don’t eat Ghanaian foods or even speak Ghanaian language. How can such individuals play Ghana National team. All the AFCON cups Ghanaians has secured was as a result of the Ghanaian coaches we had,” he added.
He expressed dismay over certain players who may not be connected to their Ghanaian roots, citing instances where some do not consume Ghanaian foods or speak the local language.
“How can such individuals truly represent the Ghana National team?” Mr Pratt questioned, emphasizing the importance of cultural and national identity in the context of international sports representation.
Drawing a historical perspective, Pratt underscored the contribution of Ghanaian coaches in securing past Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) victories.
“All the AFCON cups Ghanaians have secured were as a result of the Ghanaian coaches we had,” he asserted, highlighting the success achieved under local coaching expertise.
In the meantime, fans and analysts have urged the GFA to address systemic issues, implement reforms, and prioritize the nurturing of talent to restore Ghana’s football glory.

The incident unfolded during daylight hours, with eyewitnesses informing Citi News that, fortunately, no casualties were reported before the swift arrival of the fire service.
Elizabeth, a trader, shared her account, stating, “After I had arranged my items to begin selling, I quickly realized a car had come to park in front of me with smoke coming from it. The Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has called for the immediate dissolution of the search committee established by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to recruit a new coach for the Black Stars.
Emphasizing the necessity for a comprehensive revamp of the country’s sporting framework, he advocates for the formulation of a national sports policy to regulate sporting and related activities in Ghana.
Mr. Ablakwa recently alleged that the Ministry of Youth and Sports budgeted an estimated $8.5 million for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) without obtaining parliamentary approval.
Addressing journalists in Kumasi, the North Tongu legislator urged the GFA to suspend the committee responsible for finding a new coach, highlighting the absence of a national sports policy and the need for strategic planning in Ghana’s football development.
He proposed a suspension of international sporting competitions to address fundamental issues, stating, “There’s the need for us as a country to overhaul sporting departments of our country. I’m appalled that Ghana doesn’t have a national sports policy. You keep hiring coaches, what is the vision for our sports football in particular? What is the plan for our infrastructure? Ghana doesn’t have a FIFA-certified pitch, what are the managers of football doing? Suspend all these international sporting competitions that we have been disgracing ourselves, and let’s get to the basics.
That committee [coach search committee] that they have set up should be disbanded, we don’t need to be rushing for coaches, how many coaches are we going to have within a few months.”
Ablakwa hinted at leading a bipartisan parliamentary probe into the budget for the AFCON 2023 tournament, asserting that spending public funds without parliamentary approval is unconstitutional and illegal.
“It’s important to emphasize that what has gone on so far is clearly unconstitutionality and illegality. Before you spend public funds, you need parliamentary approval. As an MP, at no time, did the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the GFA present the Black Stars budget to parliament. They had the effrontery, the audacity to tell us that they are going to spend public funds when they return, then they are now going to make an account and tell us what the budget is.
He pledged to present a motion to Speaker Alban Bagbin, calling for a comprehensive bipartisan parliamentary inquiry into the matter.
Ghana’s performance in AFCON 2023, where they exited without a win, prompted the GFA to take responsibility for the sub-par campaign. In a statement, the GFA acknowledged falling short of expectations and pledged to address the issues leading to the team’s underwhelming performance.

The cocoa beans are only to arrive in Ghana through the Tema port, the letter signed by Chief Executive of COCOBOD, Joseph Boahen Aidoo on January 25, 2024, communicated.
It is important to note that this is not the first time that Ghana has imported cocoa beans from other African countries.
