The coach’s action is in response to the Porcupine Warriors allegedly refusing to pay his three-month wage arrears following his departure from the squad.
Following the departure of Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, Zerbo was named Asante Kotoko’s new head coach. He was relieved of his responsibilities following a bad run of form.
Zerbo expressed his unhappiness with the situation in his first interview since leaving the club, claiming that the club had not fulfilled its commitments to settle his three-month wage arrears as agreed upon following the termination of his contract.
“I have started the process to drag Kotoko to FIFA in order to get my three months’ salaries. After the Medeama defeat in Kumasi, the CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah came to see me and informed me about the decision to terminate my contract. Indeed it was a sad moment for me but I had to accept it and move on,” Seydou Zerbo told Fox FM.
He added: “We signed an agreement that I will receive three months’ salary following my contract termination but I haven’t received it as of this time.”

Japan, South Korea, and the United States have conducted a joint naval missile defense exercise in response to North Korea’s “nuclear and missile threats,” following the recent launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) by Pyongyang.
On Sunday, the joint drill took place in international waters between South Korea and Japan, involving destroyers equipped with Aegis radar systems from all three countries, as confirmed by the South Korean Navy.
During the exercise, naval officers practiced procedures to detect and track a computer-simulated ballistic target while sharing relevant information.
In response to recent events, North Korea launched its latest Hwasong-18 missile from the east coast on Wednesday, considering it a “strong practical warning” to its adversaries. The launch followed heated complaints from North Korea about US spy planes flying over its exclusive economic zone waters and condemning the visit of a US nuclear-powered cruise missile submarine to South Korea. Pyongyang also threatened to take further actions in response.
The ICBM launch received strong condemnation from Seoul, Tokyo, and Washington, who deemed it a “clear, flagrant violation” of numerous United Nations Security Council resolutions, posing a serious threat to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and beyond.
The South Korean Navy stated that Sunday’s joint drills provided a valuable opportunity to enhance their military’s response capabilities against ballistic missiles while fostering improved security cooperation among South Korea, Japan, and the US.
“We will effectively respond to North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats with our military’s strong response system and the trilateral cooperation,” it added.
Efforts to enhance information-sharing on North Korea’s missiles have been underway among the US and its Asian allies.
Currently, South Korea and Japan are individually connected to US radar systems but lack direct links with each other’s systems.
MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has received criticism for his recent comments targeting Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia concerning Ghana’s economic challenges.
Agyapong is among nine contenders vying for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearership.
Bawumia, considered the primary frontrunner, enjoys widespread support from numerous MPs who have been accompanying him on campaign trails nationwide.
Four pro-Bawumia MPs responded to Kennedy Agyapong’s criticism, deeming it baseless and unjustified, as the economic challenges were a result of external factors.
Currently, Ghana is under an International Monetary Fund (IMF) program, aiming to secure US$3 billion over three years. The initial tranche of US$600 million was disbursed earlier this year, with more tranches scheduled for release.
1. Andrew Egyapa Mercer, MP for Sekondi
Egyapa-Mercer emphasized that any assessment of the Vice President’s performance should begin from 2017 and 2018 until the present.
He firmly stated that the economic downturn was influenced by global factors beyond the Vice President’s control, absolving him of responsibility for the country’s economic challenges.
“Dr Bawumia was superintending over an economy that was growing 7 percent on average in 2017, 2018, and 2019 and so in 2020 what happened? They recognize the issues that have taken us to where we are that are not attributed to Bawumia, that is not to say that he is reneging on his duties.
“He did not bring covid and if you think covid did not have an impact on the economy, that is your beef. He stands tall and he is the one to help us break the 8,” the Deputy Energy Minister said.
2. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, MP for Takoradi
Darko-Mensah firmly asserted that the economic downturn was primarily caused by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. He pointed out that this fact has been confirmed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which is currently providing financial assistance to Ghana through a bailout program.
“..we were all in the country when COVID broke. Were you the one who manufactured COVID? Even the IMF who are giving us a bailout said we (NPP) did not create the problem, as our economic challenges are as a result of COVID,” he stressed.
In addition, Darko-Mensah highlighted take-or-pay energy-sector contracts signed during the previous government’s tenure as a significant contributor to the economic challenges.
He questioned the connection between these contracts and the decision made by Dr. Bawumia, himself, or Ken Ofori-Atta to seek assistance from the IMF. Darko-Mensah implied that these contracts were separate issues from the necessity of seeking IMF support.
Amankwa-Manu, from the Atwima-Kwanwoma Constituency, stated that all NPP MPs, including Kennedy Agyapong, who voted in favor of various revenue measures to secure the bailout deal, cannot now criticize Bawumia for the economic situation as he is not an MP.
In response to Kennedy Agyapong’s critique of Bawumia’s economic management, Amankwa-Manu posed a rhetorical question in an interview with Oyerepa TV: “If you were against our IMF approach, wouldn’t you have voted against it?” He implied that Agyapong, having supported the IMF approach, cannot now shift blame onto Bawumia.
“But if you were part of the decision and you claim that because of an internal election (NPP flagbearership race), now that we have voted and agreed on the issue, it is now that some people want to walk back their steps? Are we in Parliament with Bawumia?” he quizzed.
“I don’t belong to that school of thought, what is not good for me, I will strictly state so from the onset. He cannot absolve himself now having voted for the E-Levy, an IMF conditionality. He has no moral right to absolve himself having gone with the team to agree on the issue,” he added.
Western Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Takoradi, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, has criticised his colleague and Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong.
The minister accused Agyapong, a candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership, of being selfish and unfair in his attacks on the administration and another NPP candidate, Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia.
The minister defended Bawumia from a withering attack by Ken Agyapong, who recently blamed Bawumia for Ghana’s economic troubles, in an interview on Takoradi-based Radio 360 on Monday (July 17).
Darko-Mensah argued that COVID was to blame for the economic downturn, and that fact has been confirmed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which is currently bailing out Ghana.
“..we were all in the country when COVID broke. Were you the one who manufactured COVID? Even the IMF who are giving us a bailout said we (NPP) did not create the problem, as our economic challenges are as a result of COVID,” he stressed.
Additionally, Darko-Mensah pointed out that take-or-pay energy-sector contracts, signed during the previous government’s tenure, contributed significantly to the economic challenges. He questioned the relevance of such contracts to Dr. Bawumia, himself, or Ken Ofori-Atta’s decision to seek assistance from the IMF.
Regarding Kennedy Agyapong, Darko-Mensah highlighted that the MP has been a major recipient of government contracts for several years. He suggested that Agyapong should consider returning those contracts and refrain from accepting any new ones due to the current economic challenges faced by the country.
“Ghana is a member of the IMF and they have given us some assistance during COVID. Since Ghana went to the IMF the cedi is stabilising …what intrigues me however is, between you and I, we all know one of the biggest government contractors is the man you are talking about (Kennedy Agyapong).
“When things were bad and he was benefitting, that was right, but now that he wants to be a presidential candidate, he has forgotten about all those benefits he derived and wants us to forget about all that?
“Then he should reverse (sic) all those contracts he earned and hand it to others and say because Ghana is now back to the IMF, I will not take any government contract again. If he continues like that then technically you want to act like a greedy person who wants to benefit both ways.
“If he wants to find someone to blame for Ghana going to IMF, why won’t he also along the lines of equity say that he will not take any of the contracts he is taking during this IMF period? He is just misleading people and it needs to be straightened,” the minister added.
African leaders has initiated the mid-year African Union summit, focusing on economic integration and urging international financial system reforms.
Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina Mohamed, highlighted Africa’s disproportionate suffering amidst the ongoing global crises caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Unmet commitments by the international community to financing climate action and inadequate humanitarian responses, have further aggravated the obstacles to the efforts made by Africa and its leaders, to implement Agenda 2063,” she said.
Amina Mohamed stated that the UN supports African leaders’ plea for more resources allocated to their economies through the International Monetary Fund (IMF), an institution criticized by various African leaders.
Kenyan President, William Ruto, alongside other leaders, called for reforms within the World Bank and IMF. He emphasized the unfairness of the global debt system, which burdens African countries with payment obligations eight times higher than wealthier nations due to perceived risks.
”We are not asking for charity. We must have equality in the international system,” Ruto said.
The Head of Communications at the Ministry of Public Enterprises, Paa Kwesi Agyefi, has stated that not all 17 defunct State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) will be sold outright.
He explained that the Government intends to retain shares in some of the affected companies instead.
In an interview with the media, Mr. Agyefi stated that the options are still under consideration by the Cabinet.
While some of the enterprises will be sold outrightly, others may have the Government maintain equity in them. He emphasized that the Government is not planning to sell everything to private businesses.
The Minister for Public Enterprises, Mr. Joseph Cudjoe, had previously expressed the Ministry’s determination to divest 17 non-operational State-Owned Enterprises.
Among the affected assets are the Central Stores of the Aboso Glass Factory, the Bolgatanga Meat Factory’s bungalow, the Clinic of the Bonsa Tyre Factory, the Research Laboratory of the Ghana Consolidated Diamonds, the regional office of the Ghana Food Production Corporation at Srodae, and the guesthouse of the State Construction Company at Dagomba Street in the Northern Region.
The decision to divest these assets comes as a response to the need to cut costs, given that the facilities have been non-operational for an extended period and have deteriorated.
Additionally, the Government has been incurring significant expenses to maintain these facilities, while some individuals, possibly workers, have been misappropriating them.
As such, each case will be carefully assessed to determine whether the Government will retain shares or opt for outright sale.

Former Minister of Railways Development, Joe Ghartey, has denied $2 million payment claims for the Accra Sky Train project during his tenure.
He clarifies that the payment was made by the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), not the ministry. The Minority in Parliament criticized the government for the payment without proper approvals.
In an interview with the media, Mr. Ghartey dismisses the Minority’s claims as propaganda and points out that GIIF handles such payments for projects like the now-defunct sky train initiative. He suggests that the Minority seeks answers from GIIF for their queries.
“It is the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund that paid the money and the Fund is mandated to make such payments and so if the Minority wants anyone to refund the money, they should tell the Auditor General to ask the Fund to refund the money.”
Mr. Ghartey added that due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the South African company scheduled to undertake the project couldn’t return to Ghana. As a result, his engagement with them on the project came to an end without any payment discussions taking place.
“I went to South Africa in 2018 to make the presentation because the quality of life is affected by heavy traffic and then the South Africans came. The company went back and said they wanted a concession agreement of thirty years and I said it was not possible. The company went away and was supposed to come in 2020 and then there was COVID-19.”
“And so as far as my Ministry is concerned, we did not give them any money. I didn’t have any money and I didn’t have the power to pay any money and I did not pay any money. I don’t have the power to write for payment to the company in Mauritius. GIIF [Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund] is the statutory corporation that has the power to make such payments and so you can ask them.”
The Association of bullion van operators has announced the complete withdrawal of all soft-skinned bullion vans from operations nationwide.
Banks have been warned not to accept these vans on their premises, and the Ghana Police Service threatened to withdraw officers from bank escorts if the soft-skinned vans continued in use.
In place of soft-skinned vans, the Association will now utilize armoured vans for cash pickups.
The President of the Association, Alhaji Iddi Sumiala, assured the public that starting from July 1, 2023, no soft-skinned vehicles will transport cash.
During an interview with the media , Alhaji Sumaila emphasized the Association’s commitment to ensuring that all banks across the country utilize the available 150 bullion vans before the specified deadline.
This decision comes as a response to the rising incidents of armed robbery attacks on bullion vans in Ghana, with the most recent attack resulting in the death of a police escort earlier this month in Ablekuma, Accra.

Mr. Assibey Antwi clarified that the NSS owes only one month of arrears to the current batch of Service Personnel, debunking rumors of multiple months of unpaid allowances. The payment format differs from the country’s standard, leading to misconceptions and speculations.
Ex-girlfriend of Zionfelix, Mina Lawani, has called him out for sharing her picture on his page.
The drama between the award-winning makeup artiste and Zionfelix escalated some months ago when he impregnated Erica, an Italian-based woman, around the same time she was pregnant for him.
This complicated situation led Minalyn to step away from the triangular relationship, leaving her baby girl with Zionfelix to let him focus on his marriage with Erica, who also has his male child.

The World Bank Managing Director of Operations, Anna Bjerde, has advised the Ghanaian government to implement an emergency action plan to tackle the country’s energy crisis.
Bjerde emphasized the World Bank’s commitment to offering technical guidance to ensure Ghana’s energy sector supports economic resilience.
During a press conference in Accra, Bjerde highlighted that while Ghana’s energy challenges are not unique, they demand immediate attention.
Neglecting to address these issues promptly could worsen the situation and impose greater financial burdens on the state, diverting resources from other critical areas.
To address this, Bjerde stressed the importance of adopting an emergency action plan to effectively tackle the energy crisis.
“The problems that Ghana is experiencing are not unique to Ghana, but they are very serious because if they are not addressed they will get worse and worse. If not arrested and addressed with really an emergency action plan it will get worse and it will cost the state more to keep the energy sector running at a time when they need to spend money on other things.
“The World Bank is providing first of all technical advise on what needs to be done, so the metering, the billing, the collection and making sure that you have an account set up so from which all the different flows of the revenues collected flows to where it needs to go so that those who are generating the electricity are paid.”

She highlighted that many people in Ghana have undergone abortions, suggesting that those who criticize public figures like Yvonne Nelson may have also experienced abortions while hypocritically passing judgment.

Efforts to locate 33-year-old forest guard Vitus Yuordong, who disappeared while participating in an operation against illegal chainsaw operators in the Asukese Forest of the Sunyani Forest District, have been unsuccessful.
Despite extensive searches by two teams in the reserve and neighboring communities such as Daadom, Yawsae, Antwikrom, Atronie, Kufuor Camp, and Nsuta, there have been no signs of Yuordong, as reported by Daily Guide.
During the operation, Yuordong and a fellow guard temporarily separated to attend to personal needs. While the other guard returned after about 30 minutes, Yuordong did not.
Concerned colleagues initiated a search in the nearby bushes but found no trace of Yuordong.
Yuordong went missing along with his equipment, which included a pump-action gun with registration number AFOO63604, a machete, and a handbag. He was last seen wearing a green camouflage forest uniform.
The case has been reported to the Bono Regional Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service for further investigation, as confirmed by the forestry manager, Francis Brobbey.
Despite efforts to gather information from communities like Asaame and Nsuta, no leads on Yuordong’s whereabouts have emerged.
While the search team successfully confiscated three chainsaw machines from illegal operators during the operation, the disappearance of Yuordong remains a mystery.
Yuordong, a resident of Nandom in the Upper West Region, serves as a forest guard.
The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) has expressed satisfaction with President Akufo-Addo’s decision to endorse the revised salaries and allowances of its members.
Previously, the Association had been protesting against what they perceived as the government’s lack of commitment to approving the agreed-upon terms, leading to an indefinite strike starting on May 24, 2023.
JUSAG had urgently requested the government’s attention regarding the implementation of the approved cost-of-living allowance for its members.
They subsequently sought the intervention of Chief Justice Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkonoo.
The Association stated that their engagement with the Chief Justice produced positive outcomes, confirming that the president has approved the reviewed salaries and other entitled allowances for JUSAG members.
The association in a statement indicated that though the process and engagement with the Chief Justice had been challenging, “we are glad that her ingenuity and exceptional leadership with the support of other stakeholders led to the conclusion of the engagement on the 15th of June 2023 with an understanding that implementation of the reviewed salaries will take effect in July 2023.”
“We are reassured by the letter of Her Ladyship Honourable Chief Justice dated 13th July 2023 which confirms that His Excellency the President of Ghana has approved the new salary structure, and implementation will be done in the month of July 2023 as indicated by the Ministry of Finance at the close of engagement,” the group further noted in the statement.
Members of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) at the University of Development Studies (UDS) have threatened to strike in protest of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission’s (GTEC) termination of some positions.
UTAG argues that the Commission has initiated a ban on office positions that were previously approved by University Councils in various universities.
UTAG-UDS expresses concern that these actions by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission jeopardize the autonomy of public universities.
Dr. Elliasu Mumuni, the Secretary of UTAG-UDS, indicates that they will take appropriate measures in response to the situation.
“As far as we are concerned at the local level, our members are not actually taking it kindly and once these exercises are not stopped or these directives are not put on hold, members are threatening that by the 28th, we, members f the UDS as in the GAWA and the University teachers will not be able to teach and carry out any other community service that reflects the functions of a university,” he noted.
An artist manager and entertainment pundit, Mr. Logic, has stated that cheating is an unwise act frequently committed by men.
In his opinion, men who engage in infidelity gain nothing from it but instead experience regret when they realize they have betrayed their girlfriends or wives.
Mr. Logic expressed this viewpoint during an interview with the media.
The discussion arose from Adjetey Anang’s recent memoir, in which he confessed to cheating multiple times on his wife.
“What make men cheat is our imagination; our thoughts. The moment we see a lady by sight, then we develop the thought. To be frank with you, there’s nothing a man gets from cheating. Cheating is one of the foolish acts but the thing is that you get to know you acted foolishly after engaging in it. You will realize that the thought drives you into the loss”, he stated.
Mr. Logic, during the discussion, expressed his perspective on why Adjetey Anang chose to disclose in his book that he had cheated on his wife multiple times.
According to Mr. Logic, he believed that Adjetey Anang should not have revealed such information. Instead, he suggested that the actor should have acknowledged his mistakes, sought forgiveness, and demonstrated genuine repentance.
Furthermore, Mr. Logic emphasized that while a woman may forgive a man who admits to cheating, she will never forget the betrayal.
“Adjetey Anang should have known that, after cheating, you should forgive yourself and repent. If you cheat on your wife or your woman, just understand that you were at fault, forgive yourself, and change. Because if you tell the lady, she would say she has forgiven you but I bet you, anyone who has cheated on his wife or woman and has confessed to the lady, I want you to know that the lady has not forgotten.
“I want Adjetey Anang to understand that his wife has not forgotten about his cheating scandal. It is still in her. Maybe because of the family, the kids, and some few things, she is trying to endure but if he tries cheating on her again, the marriage will go down”, Mr Logic explained.
Famous Ghanaian actor from Kejetia vs Makola series, Lawyer Nti, has revealed his battle with depression and the unique path he took to seek help.
In an interview with the media, Richmond Xavier Amoakoh, his real name, reflected on the challenging period and the emotional toll it had on him.
Sharing his struggles, Lawyer Nti stressed the significance of opening up about his story, saying, “We all encounter obstacles that shape us and define our journey. By sharing my experience, I aim to inspire others and assure them they are not alone.”
Recounting his three-year struggle with depression, Lawyer Nti openly discussed the impact it had on his daily life, expressing feelings of being trapped.
“During that period, I felt like I was trapped in a never-ending cycle of despair. It became increasingly difficult to engage with the world around me. Even simple tasks seemed insurmountable,” he said.
While denying that a woman was responsible for his depression, Lawyer Nti acknowledged that the added pressure he placed on himself to attain greater success in his career played a role in his emotional struggle.
“I had set ambitious goals for myself, and when I couldn’t attain them, I began questioning my worth. It was a time of profound self-reflection, where I confronted my limitations and grappled with feelings of insignificance,” he revealed.
Expanding on this choice, he revealed, “Desperation drove me to explore unconventional paths for hope. I held the belief that there might be something beyond the ordinary that could offer the answers I desperately yearned for.”
However, he later realized that despite his encounter with the ritualists, the true assistance he needed could only come from God.
“I learned that genuine help comes from a God, and if something is not meant for you, no external force can make it happen. It is through faith, self-reflection, and seeking the right sources of support that we can find our way forward,” he stated.
The Director of Education for Kadjebi District, Seth Seyram Deh, has expressed concerns about the negative effects of teacher attrition on education delivery in the area.
According to him, out of the 99 trained teachers assigned to the district in 2022, 43 had already departed, leaving only 56 remaining.
As of June of the current year, a mere 17 teachers had been newly assigned to the district.
In an interview with the media, Mr. Deh disclosed that if this issue persisted, it could result in a repetition of the situation faced by the district in 2012 when classrooms were left without teachers.
The Human Resource Manager of the Kadjebi District Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr. Nutifafa Agbozo, it was revealed that the district currently required approximately 1,010 teachers for basic education levels.
However, only 831 teachers were presently serving, leaving a shortfall of 179 teachers.
Mr. Agbozo attributed the high rate of teacher attrition in the district to the practice of assigning non-local teachers from outside the Volta and Oti Regions to the district. These teachers, unfamiliar with the geographical area, tended to return to their places of origin after only a few months of service in the district.
He emphasized the need for internal recruitment to address this problem effectively, appealing to the Ghana Education Service for immediate intervention to remedy the situation and ensure the district’s educational well-being.
The objective of this training was to equip the participants with the necessary knowledge and skills pertaining to the restitution and repatriation of stolen cultural items from West Africa.
Over the course of five days, a workshop was organized, enabling the establishment of a database and the accumulation of expertise in the domain of cultural property restitution among the member states.
This workshop served as a platform to share valuable insights, techniques, and protocols for the effective recovery of cultural artifacts.
Additionally, the workshop facilitated the development of a protocol outlining the procedures, steps, and tools to be employed for the restitution of cultural property.
This protocol has been made accessible to all member states, serving as a practical resource for future cultural property restitution endeavors.
Dubbed; ‘Capacity building of member states lawyers on restitution procedures and review of the ECOWAS Action Plan on the return of cultural property to their countries of origin,’ the programme was held in Accra on Friday.
During the training, Mr. Mark Okraku-Mantey, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MoTAC), delivered a speech through Mr. John Agbeko, the Chief Director of MoTAC.
In his address, Mr. Okraku-Mantey emphasized the significance of the training program and highlighted the exploration of principles related to restitution and reparation. He recognized these principles as essential steps in acknowledging past wrongs, rectifying historical injustices, and rebuilding the rich cultural heritage of the region.
Mr. Okraku-Mantey further stressed the importance of member countries fully implementing the ECOWAS Action Plan 2019-2023 on the restitution of cultural property to its countries of origin.
He emphasized the need for unified efforts among member countries, stating that it is crucial for all countries to move in the same direction in order to achieve this common goal.
Mr. Okraku-Mantey expressed his deep appreciation for the participants’ unwavering dedication to the repatriation of stolen cultural items back to Africa and their active involvement in the workshop.
He commended them for their commitment, acknowledging that their efforts in this important cause are truly praiseworthy.
He extended his gratitude for the invaluable contributions each participant has made, recognizing the significance of their input in advancing the goals of cultural heritage preservation and restitution.
Highlighting some of the challenges faced member states, he said “our biggest challenge is taking inventory of our stolen items, ratification of various conventions dealing with reparation and restitution, as well as, the implementation of existing laws in reparation and restitution.”
Jason Sudeikis, Susan Sarandon, and numerous actors united with screenwriters in Hollywood‘s largest strike in over 60 years.
During the stoppage, actors will abstain from appearing in films or participating in movie promotions.
The shutdown could impact major productions like the Avatar and Gladiator sequels. The actors are supporting the writers who initiated the strike in May, expressing concerns about pay, working conditions, and the industry’s utilization of artificial intelligence (AI).
Brian Cox, lead actor of HBO’s Succession, predicts that the strike may endure until the year’s end, as he conveyed to the BBC.
“The whole streaming thing has shifted the paradigm,” the Scottish star told BBC Newscast.
“They are trying to freeze us out and beat us into the ground, because there’s a lot of money to be made in streaming and the desire is not to share it with the writers or the performers.”
Negotiations for a new contract between studios, streaming giants, and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) came to a halt on Thursday.
The SAG accused the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) of being “unwilling to provide a fair deal.”
At midnight, around 160,000 performers joined the 11,500 members of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) in a work stoppage. By noon on Friday, union members and their supporters gathered outside major studio and streaming service offices in Los Angeles, New York, and other cities for demonstrations.
Prominent celebrities, including the cast of the upcoming Oppenheimer movie, demonstrated their support by walking off the red carpet on Thursday night.
The primary demands of the two guilds involve improved pay, increased royalties, enhanced contributions to pension and health plans, and safeguards against the industry’s use of artificial intelligence (AI).
Notable productions that are likely to be affected include sequels to the Avatar, Deadpool, and Gladiator franchises, as well as upcoming seasons of popular shows like Stranger Things, Family Guy, and The Simpsons.
The strike has already caused the suspension, rescheduling, or downsizing of red-carpet premieres, promotional interviews, and events such as the Emmys and Comic-Con.
This strike is driven, in part, by the challenging transition to the digital streaming era, as well as broader technological changes impacting the industry.
“AI will affect everybody,” Academy Award winner Susan Sarandon told the BBC from a picket line in New York.
“There’s definitely always been the feeling that if it isn’t solved now, how do we ever solve it in the future?” she said.
“If you don’t have the foresight to put something in place for the future, then you’re screwed. It’s clear that nothing is going to change from the top down, it’s going to be up to us at the bottom.”
The Bortianor Traditional Council has called for an impartial investigation into the shooting of some people claiming to be land guards by the Ghana Police Service in June 2023 in Bortianor, Greater Accra Region.
The traditional authority has disputed accusations that the people were land guards who terrorized villagers.
According to the Traditional Authority, the Parliamentary Committee established to investigate the subject has yet to visit the enclave.
Some traditional chiefs in the area spoke to the media about their outrage at the occurrence and urged the government to investigate the killings.
A leader mentioned that the local police commands were unaware of the raid until after the killings occurred.
“The Divisional Police didn’t know anything about the incident the day it happened. The Weija District and the Krokobite Division didn’t know anything about it and this was just about 500 meters from where the incident happened.”
He refuted claims that the victims were armed land guards who had been terrorizing the local residents.
“They were not having guns and the bullet casings shown on TV were brought from else, and we know the people who did that and wrongfully killed the people.”
“The government should wake up and find a way to investigate this thing, and we are ready to give to them telephone numbers to start with their investigations,” the angry traditional leader added.
Management at the Koforidua School for the Death has indicated that the inadequate infrastructure is hampering enrollment of special students at the school.
The management highlighted the shortage of dormitory beds, outdated toilet facilities, and limited food supplies as major challenges.
Speaking to the media, Assistant Headmaster Morgadzi Daniel Kwami shared these concerns during a food donation event organized by students from Koforidua Technical University’s Faculty of Engineering.
“We have a challenge with the students’ beds. What we have are wooden beds, so we need metal beds. We also have a vocational department that we want to equip. We need materials like sewing machines. Our fence wall has been broken for about six years, which has made the place exposed to humans and animals. We need toilet facilities and dormitories that will enable us to keep the number of students we have and the more who will come,” he stated.
Mr. Kwami expressed gratitude for assistance from individuals and institutions, emphasizing their need for support.
He extended appreciation to the students from Koforidua Technical University’s Faculty of Engineering for their kind gesture.
Dr. Samuel Anim Ofosu, a senior lecturer at Koforidua Technical University Faculty of Engineering, highlighted the significance of basic infrastructure and urgently called upon the government, non-governmental organizations, and corporate entities in Ghana to provide immediate assistance to the school.
Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has emphasized the importance of selecting a leader who is dedicated to the welfare of the people and capable of ensuring the New Patriotic Party (NPP) remains in power during the 2024 general elections.
Addressing the NPP delegates, Dr. Bawumia stressed the paramountcy of maintaining political authority, stating that the party needs a leader who prioritizes the greater good rather than personal wealth.
He emphasized the significance of leadership experience and a proven track record in governance, highlighting the party’s need for a candidate who can bring innovative ideas to foster the country’s growth.
Dr. Bawumia highlighted his political background in his campaign against John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He emphasizes that he has emerged victorious against the former president on two separate occasions, instilling him with the confidence to secure another triumph in the upcoming 2024 elections.
“As we go for the presidential primaries, we need someone who can help us retain. We need someone who has humility. We need someone who has a track record. We need someone who has the temperament. We need someone who has innovative ideas and has tolerance for everyone,” Dr. Bawumia said.
The Vetting Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has approved the candidacy of Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; former Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen; Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong; and seven other contenders for the NPP flagbearership race.
With this clearance, all ten candidates are now permitted to commence their preparations for the Super Delegates Congress of the NPP. During this congress, the field will be narrowed down to only five candidates.
The final list of these five candidates will then be presented to the delegates, who will cast their votes to choose the NPP’s presidential candidate for the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Aggrieved participants of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCo) program have voiced their concerns regarding the prolonged delay in receiving their outstanding nine months’ payment.
Despite making multiple attempts to obtain payment from the government, the beneficiaries have faced consistent disappointment as their dues remain unpaid.
The National Convenor of the Aggrieved NABCo Beneficiaries, David Petterson, highlighted the unbearable hardships they have endured. He urgently called upon the government to fulfill its promises and promptly disburse the nine months’ arrears owed, thereby enabling the beneficiaries to regain stability.
In December of the previous year, these beneficiaries issued a one-week ultimatum to the government, demanding the settlement of their outstanding arrears spanning nine months. Unfortunately, their numerous engagements with the government to secure the payment of owed allowances have proven futile.
Naa Techie, the spokesperson for the former NABCo trainees, expressed her dissatisfaction with the delay in receiving their arrears while speaking to the media.
“The indication is that NABCO trainees have been left in limbo. NABCO Trainees have been subjected to incessant public ridicule, and they have also been subjected to severe hardships and are in a state of starvation to death,” she underscored.
Government has inaugurated its inaugural state-of-the-art medical waste and treatment plant in Adegya, situated within the Ashanti Region.
During the commissioning ceremony, Deputy Minister of Health, Mahama Asei Seini emphasized that this facility symbolizes Ghana’s unwavering dedication to protecting public health, preserving the environment, and promoting sustainable development.
The deputy minister highlighted the inherent risks associated with medical waste, which consists of materials that are potentially infectious and hazardous. If not handled appropriately, such waste poses a significant threat to both human health and the delicate balance of the ecosystem.
By establishing this modern treatment plant, Ghana has taken a proactive stance in managing medical waste effectively. The facility is equipped with advanced technologies designed to sterilize, disinfect, and dispose of medical waste in a manner that minimizes the potential risks to human health and the environment.
The operation of this cutting-edge plant will bolster Ghana‘s environmental conservation efforts and contribute to curbing the transmission of infectious diseases. Moreover, it serves as a testament to the country’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development by promoting responsible waste management practices.
In summary, the commissioning of Ghana’s first-ever ultra-modern medical waste and treatment plant in Adegya marks a significant milestone in the nation’s healthcare system. It showcases Ghana’s dedication to safeguarding public health, preserving the environment, and fostering sustainable development by ensuring the proper management of potentially hazardous medical waste.
“It is critical that we adopt responsible and efficient measures to prevent the spread of diseases, protect our healthcare workers and minimise the impact on the environment,” Seini said.
He said the facility will serve all heath care facilities within the region and neighboring towns.
Seini added that it will also serve as a learning facility for health students in the region.
Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, the Director General of the Ghana Health Service, acknowledged that the management of medical waste has been a persistent challenge in the country.
Highlighting the scale of the issue, he further mentioned that Ghana has administered more than 22 million vaccines within the past two years, excluding vaccines for children. The management of the resulting medical waste from this significant vaccination effort has posed a considerable challenge to the healthcare service.
The statement by Dr. Kuma-Aboagye sheds light on the immense volume of medical waste generated during the vaccination campaigns. Vaccines often require proper disposal of vials, syringes, and other materials, which can be potentially hazardous if not managed appropriately. The disposal process must adhere to strict protocols to prevent any adverse impact on public health and the environment.
The acknowledgment of the waste management challenge by the Director General of the Ghana Health Service highlights the importance of establishing dedicated facilities like the recently commissioned medical waste and treatment plant. Such facilities provide the necessary infrastructure and expertise to handle and dispose of medical waste safely and efficiently.
The efforts to address the waste management challenge align with Ghana’s commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring sustainable development. By effectively managing medical waste, the country can mitigate potential risks to human health, protect the environment, and promote a safer healthcare system for all.
In conclusion, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye‘s acknowledgement of the medical waste management challenge in Ghana, particularly regarding the large-scale vaccination efforts, emphasizes the need for improved waste management infrastructure and practices.
It underscores the significance of the newly commissioned medical waste treatment plant and similar initiatives in ensuring the safe disposal of medical waste generated by healthcare services in the country.
“We are currently open burning of waste, incinerators with its accompanying high electricity consumption cost and so there’s a need to transform to a safer, efficient and environmental friendly system and what we have here provides this excellent result. We are happy to be part of this transformation,” Kuma-Aboagye said.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Zebilla constituency in the Upper East Region, Cletus Apul Avoka, has voiced his disagreement with the calls to abolish the death penalty in Ghana’s legal system.
Discussions among legislators have arisen following the report from the Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Committee on the Criminal Offences Amendment Act, which proposes replacing the death penalty with life imprisonment.
Speaking to the media, Avoka restated his position, expressing concerns that eliminating the death penalty could have negative consequences for the country’s justice system.
He argued that without the deterrent of the law, there could be an increase in vigilante justice, where suspects are killed by civilians without proper judicial proceedings.
“Where is the evidence that when the death penalty is taken out of our books, people will not commit murder? In fact, we are having fewer heinous crimes because of the existence of the death penalty. Already, people do not have confidence in the judicial system, and if you now go around telling people that if you kill somebody, you will not die, then you are inviting Ghanaians to take the law into their hands and do instant justice.”
“Abolishing the death penalty has the tendency to increase mob justice.”
Mr. Avoka refuted the notion that countries that have abolished the death penalty experience lower crime rates. He argued that each jurisdiction is unique and what may work elsewhere may not necessarily be effective in Ghana’s context.
He emphasized the need to consider Ghana’s specific circumstances when evaluating the potential impact of abolishing the death penalty.
“There is very little logical argument to the conversation that the peaceful countries in the world do not have the death penalty in their books. The jurisdiction is not the same and has different issues and so advancing that argument is a non-starter.
“There is no empirical proof that in Ghana if we abolish the death penalty, people will not commit heinous crimes. There is nothing to support it.”
While the death penalty was originally inherited from the colonial administration as a punishment for serious offenses, including murder, attempted murder, genocide, piracy, and smuggling of gold or diamonds, Ghana has not carried out any executions since 1993.
In contrast to this, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, the presiding archbishop and general overseer of the Action Chapel International ministry, supports the movement to abolish the death penalty.
Former President, John Dramani Mahama has extended his congratulations to Mandariwura Seidu Iddi Tempir Si Ababio, on his enskinment and outdooring in the Bole Traditional Area.
Seidu Iddi, previously known as Gilbert Seidu Iddi, served as a Minister under previous NDC administrations and as CEO of SADA.
The ceremony celebrated the rich traditions and customs that define our unique communities.
“I pray for a successful and prosperous reign for our Mandariwura; I am confident he will promote peace and development in our area,” Mr Mahama said in a Facebook post on Monday, July 17.
He added, “Let’s work together to make Bole the best it can be!”
The Bui Power Authority has presented a 20-seat toilet facility to the Tsiaveme, a community located in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region.
This initiative, costing GHC 650,000, reflects the corporation’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and aims to enhance sanitation accessibility in the local farming community.
The newly commissioned facility, which is segregated by gender, features modern amenities to meet the community’s needs.
It includes a fully automated borehole for a reliable water supply, as well as handwashing stations.
The male section is equipped with urinary bowls, while there are also dedicated toilet rooms designed for individuals with disabilities.
During the official handover ceremony, Mr. Samuel Kofi Dzamesi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, addressed the community and emphasized that this support aligns with the ongoing efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
“Bui Power believes that access to a basic toilet facility is very important,” he said while noting the project’s essence in ending open defecation, and asked to extend the attached borehole to their homes.
During the event, the CEO emphasized that the completion of the project symbolized progress and acted as a catalyst for development. He urged the community to maintain the facility to the highest standards to ensure its longevity. This project is just one of many interventions taking place in communities nationwide, showcasing the Authority’s commitment to improving living conditions.
The atmosphere during the event was filled with excitement as community members, along with residents from neighboring areas, were overjoyed. They eagerly explored the washrooms, reveling in the newfound luxury and convenience they provided.
Mr. Anthony Avorgbedor, the Municipal Chief Executive for the area, praised the facility, highlighting its uniqueness. He emphasized the importance of maintaining it as a means to encourage the Authority to continue supporting the municipality. He also expressed his confidence that the community, previously plagued by high rates of open defecation, would experience a significant transformation. He extended his gratitude to the CEO for honoring the municipality with this initiative.
Representing the community’s traditional leaders, Chief Linguist Nordzro pledged a strong commitment to maintaining the facility for the benefit of future generations. He cautioned users against misusing the facilities and warned that traditional laws would be enforced to ensure their proper use in improving sanitation within the area.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Samuel Agbesi Amable, the Assembly member of the community, highlighted the negative impact of poor sanitation resulting from the lack of suitable toilet facilities. He mentioned that this led to an increase in open defecation, which in turn had adverse health and economic consequences. He expressed gratitude for the provision of the mechanized borehole, which brought significant relief to the community’s water needs.
The Assembly Member took the opportunity to appeal for additional boreholes to be installed in the community, expressing gratitude to the company and its CEO for their generosity and concern for the well-being of the community.
He emphasized the importance of reliable water sources in meeting the needs of the residents and further improving their living conditions.
Mr. Cephas Horsu, the Municipal Environmental Health Officer, echoed the Assembly Member’s sentiments and supported the call for refuse services in the community.
He recognized the significance of proper waste management in advancing sanitation outcomes and emphasized the need for dedicated refuse collection services to be implemented.
This would contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment for the community, further enhancing their overall well-being.
African clothing has evolved while preserving its unique designs, aligning with current fashion trends.
These styles showcase the cultural diversity of the continent, reflecting its various ethnicities and traditions.
With a wide range of colors, patterns, fabrics, and fashion approaches, African traditional outfits can be worn for different occasions or as everyday attire.
Here are five African fashion tips for men, highlighting the continent’s rich cultural heritage:
The Ghanaian traditional wrap
This attire, popular in Ghana, involves draping a large piece of fabric, such as kente cloth, over one shoulder while wrapping the other end around the waist. It is often worn at weddings and important ceremonies, indicating the wearer’s social standing. The outfit can be worn bare-chested or over a shirt.
To enhance the traditional aesthetic, one can complement the outfit with beads and a locally-made slipper called ‘Ahenema.’
This pairing adds cultural authenticity and further embraces the African fashion style. The intricate designs of the beads and the craftsmanship of the ‘Ahenema’ slipper contribute to a complete traditional ensemble, showcasing the unique cultural heritage and artistry of the wearer.
Smock – The Gonja cloth
The Gonja traditional cloth, originating from Northern Ghana and popular in West Africa, features woven black, blue, or white threads intricately woven into locally dyed cotton fabrics. These fabrics create distinctive white and black stripe patterns.
To showcase this traditional attire, the fabrics are tailored into shirts with embroidered necklines, typically adorned with white, black, white, and blue thread.
For a fashionable look, pair the Gonja shirt with dark-colored shorts or pants. This combination creates a stylish ensemble, blending traditional elements with modern flair. To elevate the style further, consider adding a traditional Kufi cap, enhancing the overall appearance with a touch of elegance and cultural significance.
Isiagu
The Isiagu, originating from the Igbo people of South-East Nigeria, holds significant cultural importance. The name “Isiagu” translates to “the head of a leopard” in a literal sense, although the fabric design now features a lion’s head.
This traditional attire consists of a silk fabric embellished with a lion’s head embroidery in a distinct pattern. It is a long, loose-fitting top typically worn over black pants or fastened knit wraps at the waist.
The Isiagu serves as a status symbol for Igbo men, particularly during formal occasions such as coronations, ceremonial gatherings, and chiefs’ funerals. It signifies the wearer’s prestige and is a representation of their cultural heritage.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaak, has emphasized the need for the Attorney General and Minister for Justice to initiate legal proceedings against Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng.
This statement follows a recent Facebook post by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, where he mentioned that the Human Rights Court had dismissed Rev. Kusi Boateng/Kwabena Adu Gyamfi’s application seeking restraint against him.
According to Ablakwa, the court’s ruling affirmed that his parliamentary oversight had exposed two distinct identities with behaviors bordering on criminality, resulting in the application’s dismissal due to lack of capacity and locus standi.
The judge also awarded a cost of GHS10,000.00 against Rev. Kusi Boateng/Kwabena Adu Gyamfi, marking the second time such costs have been awarded against them.
In response to these developments, Dr. Apaak emphasized that Rev. Kusi Boateng is not exempt from the laws of the land and urged the Attorney General to take necessary action in prosecuting him.
“How did such a character become Sec and Board of Trustee of a National Cathedral? How many more criminals are walking freely in the Presidency? The Presidency has been so, so, so DEPRAVED! The AG must prosecute him immediately, he is not above the law!” Dr. Apaak stated.
Below is the full statement by Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa
The Human Rights Court has today dismissed Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng/Kwabena Adu Gyamfi’s application which sought to restrain me.
The court’s judgment was emphatic that my parliamentary oversight had unraveled two distinct identities in conduct which borders on criminality and therefore the application was dismissed for lack of capacity and locus standi.
The judge awarded cost of GHS10,000.00 against Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng/Kwabena Adu Gyamfi. This is the second time cost has been awarded against Kusi Boateng/Adu Gyamfi.
I dedicate this latest legal victory to the masses who have kept me resolute with their prayers and support for transparent and accountable governance.
I am indebted to my outstanding legal team.
2 down; 1 more to go in his defamation suit.
For God and Country.
Ghana First
Summary of Judgment
It has been proven that Kwabena Adu Gyamfi and Victor Kusi Boateng are two separate identities concurrently used by the Applicant and 1st Respondent is justified in his claims that, Victor Kusi Boateng is not an alias but another separate identity altogether.
The way the two identities were used does not suggest a simple case of two different names, but rather two independent and totally separate identities to conceal applicant’s dealings in a manner that was not obvious, until the investigations and publications of 1st Respondent.
Applicant’s assertion that the use of two names in the manner he has done is not a crime under our laws is misconceived, as the two identities were used in a pattern of duplicity depicting a lack of transparency and this conduct borders on criminality.
The Application was sought to be enforced under Article 33(1) of the 1992 Constitution, which requires an Applicant’s personal interest in the matter to confer locus standi.
From the record, it is not clear which of the two separate identities seeks to enforce its fundamental human rights by this suit. And once there is a clear case of double identity presented and proven before this court, this Application is dismissed for lack of capacity and locus standi.
Costs of GHC10,000 awarded against the Applicant in favour of the 1st Respondent.
Ghanaian international Baba Rahman has marked his comeback to PAOK for a second spell by playing his first match.
The Black Stars defender secured a starting role as PAOK triumphed over Saudi team Al-Taawon with a convincing 4-1 victory in a preseason friendly.
Al-Taawon took an early lead through Spanish midfielder Alvaro Medran, but Stefanos Tzimas equalized before the first half concluded.
PAOK’s second-half performance improved, leading to three additional goals scored by Thomas Murg, Georgios Vrakas, and an own goal, securing a comfortable win.
Baba Rahman rejoined the Greek club following his departure from English giants Chelsea after an eight-year tenure.
The former Augsburg left-back signed a three-year contract that will see him stay at PAOK until the summer of 2026.
The team manager of Ghana’s national team, the Black Stars, Ameenu Shadow, has acknowledged that the team is not presently at a level where they can consistently win every match.
Instead, Shadow emphasizes the significance of learning from recent experiences and striving for improvement to reclaim a position among the elite football nations.
Recognizing the current state of Ghanaian football, Shadow highlights the necessity for substantial efforts and investments to elevate the team to higher levels.
“I understand as Ghanaians we love our football and want to win all the time but it will take time.
“We need to do more and invest more to bring our game back to the top level and that would take time before we get to the top again and I know we’re learning from our mistakes”, he told 3Sports.
Dormaahene, Nana Agyeman Badu II, has directed that Ghana captain Andre Dede Ayew be honored in Dormaa.
In June, Ayew and some of his Black Stars teammates played a ceremonial game organized by the BAC Group in Dormaa Ahenkro, marking the U20 FIFA World Cup winner’s first visit and game in the Bono Region.
Appreciating the presence of Ayew and his teammates, Dormaahene Nana Agyeman Badu II announced that the first male child born at the Dormaa hospital on July 23 would be named after Andre Ayew.
Fulfilling this directive, the baby boy, born to Mr. Appiah Tuffuor, a teacher with the Ghana Education Service at 02:05 am, has been given the name of Andre Ayew.
The Dormaahene expressed his delight and donated an undisclosed amount of money to the family during the baby boy’s naming ceremony.
The event attracted a large gathering of residents from Dormaa, who came to witness this historic occasion honoring Andre Ayew for his exceptional leadership.
The team manager of Ghana’s national team, the Black Stars, Ameenu Shadow, has stated that the team would have performed better had Otto Addo remained as the head coach.
Otto Addo, who also serves as an assistant coach for Borussia Dortmund, stepped down from his position following Ghana’s elimination at the group stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Shadow stated that Addo had made errors during the tournament held in November and December 2022 but believed that he would have learned from those mistakes and made the necessary corrections to enhance the team’s competitiveness.
“We would have been better if Otto Addo stayed as Black Stars coach. I have always said it that Otto Addo made mistakes at the World Cup because he hadn’t been there before.
“Otto Addo is someone who learns on the job and Ghana would have been better if he had continued with his job as Black Stars head coach”, he told 3Sports.
Following Otto Addo’s departure, Chris Hughton has taken the reins as the head coach of the Black Stars.
Previously serving as a technical advisor during the World Cup, Hughton has guided the team to one victory and two draws since assuming the role in March 2023.
The team’s performance has been commendable under Hughton‘s leadership.
The Boankra Integrated Logistics Terminal (BILT), also known as the Boankra Inland Port project in the Ejisu Municipality, Ashanti Region, will be completed and handed over to the government in November 2024.
This announcement was made by Mr. Isaac Afum, the Chief Executive Officer of Ashanti Ports Services Limited (APSL) and the project’s concessionaire.
During a visit to the project site, Mr. Afum expressed satisfaction with the progress, stating that the Ghanaian contractor, Justmoh Construction Limited, is on track to meet the deadline. About 80% of the filling work in the terminal area has been completed.
Once finished, the Boankra Inland Port will feature an inland clearance depot, customs bonded and unbonded estates, commercial areas, vehicle parking, light industrial areas, and an administration block complex.
The project aims to provide services to importers, exporters, and facilitate efficient transit traffic to and from neighboring landlocked countries such as Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.
Mr. Afum emphasized that the completion of the project will not only enhance business opportunities in the region but also generate employment for the youth, both directly and indirectly. He expressed gratitude to President Akufo-Addo for supporting and entrusting a local concessionaire with the development of the Boankra Inland Port.
The Ghana Statistical Service‘s (GSS), report indicate that during the third quarter of 2022, 24.2% of young individuals between the ages of 15 and 24 were not involved in education, employment, or training.
This figure corresponds to approximately 1.5 million people within this age range.
The findings were revealed in a statement released by the GSS as part of the Annual Household Income and Expenditure Survey 2022 Third Quarter Labour Statistics Report.
“More than half of the youth are in Accra (312,394), Ashanti (300,161), Eastern (131,341), and Central (129,182) regions. In 13 out of the 16 regions, more than 20 per cent of young persons, 15 to 24 years were not in education, employment, or training.
Eastern Region (30.0%) has the highest proportion of youth, with a figure about twice that of Bono Region (14.5%) which has the lowest proportion,” the report said.
According to the 2021 Population and Housing Census, approximately 11.1% of individuals aged 15 to 24, totaling 1.4 million young people, never attended school.
The percentage of females (12.0%) in this age group who did not attend school slightly exceeded that of males (10.2%).
Specifically, in the Savannah, North East, Northern, Upper West, and Oti regions, the proportions of young people who never attended school were notably higher, at 43.4%, 36.8%, 33.3%, 20.9%, and 20.7% respectively.
These five regions accounted for nearly half (665,508) of the young individuals without formal education.

Some residents had to be evacuated by boats to find shelter in nearby Beyin. Properties worth thousands of Ghana cedis were destroyed.
In an interview with the media, Madam Affo-Toffey said: “It’s all about education, zoning and planning because elsewhere, before someone would build, you have to go to the town and country planning department to seek approval and permit.”
“They will ensure the buildings are built in a place that would not disrupt raining water. What we can say for now is for them to stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse. We have a long way to go but I am sure with time, things will change,” the MP said in Twi.
Madam Affo-Toffey added, “They [residents] have built here for a long year so they cannot leave here but we shall educate them to stop dumping refuse.

Special Schools nationwide have made an urgent appeal to the government to promptly release the outstanding subventions owed them for the past three terms.
These funds are essential for the schools to cater to the needs of children with special requirements.
Speaking to the media on Friday, the National Chairman of Heads of Special Schools in Ghana, Setumpe Ametewee, implored the government to provide assistance to the schools in bringing happiness to these vulnerable children.
“We want to plead with the government to help us put smiles on the faces of these unfortunate vulnerable children. It is been very difficult feeding them and we want to plead that we continue to get the subvention and the support that we continue to give our special schools in Ghana,” he stated.
Mr. Ametewee expressed concern that the nonpayment of subventions was having a severe impact on their ability to provide for children who are unable to pay school fees.
The financial challenges are making it difficult for the special schools to adequately care for these children’s needs.
“Almost every region has a special school. We have about 28 special schools standing in all and we have some other ones that are also day schools and they do not pay fees and it is the government’s subvention that is being used in feeding them.
“So there has been some difficulty and that’s what we are working on…It is serious because, for the past three terms, we have not had any grants so it’s very difficult, especially with our counterpart in the Northern region,” he stated.
Mr. Ametewee highlighted that the government is supposed to allocate ¢5 per child daily, but the non-receipt of this amount for the past three terms has caused significant challenges in running the schools.
The lack of government funds has hampered their ability to effectively operate and provide necessary services to the children.
“Some of the special schools have suppliers that supply foodstuffs to their schools so the suppliers continue to supply foodstuffs. But because we have a backlog where we have not paid their monies to them it becomes difficult for them to supply foodstuffs to them,” he added.
