DJ Azonto threatens to go topless on stage if not compensated by Bawumia for unauthorized song use

During a recent interview with Movement TV, DJ Azonto made a bold statement regarding his demand for $10 million from Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The musician has been vocal about seeking compensation after Dr. Bawumia used his popular track “Fa No Fom” in political campaigns without his permission.

Azonto’s latest comments indicate that if his demand is not met, he might resort to extreme measures, such as performing topless on stage.

His declaration has sparked a lot of discussion on social media, in the music industry, and among the public.

Despite the heated debate surrounding his demand, DJ Azonto stands firm, emphasizing that his request is not merely about financial compensation but also about respect and acknowledgment for his work and the ongoing struggle for intellectual property rights in the entertainment world.

Additionally, DJ Azonto has just released a new song titled “Letter To King Paluta,” which is available for streaming.

The late Onyeka Onwenu, renowned Nollywood actress, singer, and activist, expressed her wishes for her own farewell in a 2021 opinion piece published in Premium Times.

Onwenu, celebrated for her touching ballads and advocacy for women’s rights, passed away on July 30, 2024, at the age of 72, following a sudden collapse at Stella Okoli’s birthday party in Lagos.

In her 2021 article, Onwenu requested a departure from traditional mourning customs. She asked her loved ones to focus less on grief and more on celebrating her life.

She suggested that they should remember her with light-heartedness, sharing meals, and laughter rather than indulging in excessive mourning.

She also expressed her aversion to opulent funeral ceremonies, advocating instead for a more modest and meaningful farewell.

Onwenu was critical of grand displays of wealth, particularly during times of widespread economic difficulty, underscoring her preference for a more restrained and considerate approach to her passing.

Watch as dancehall singer Vybz Kartel exits prison after 10 years

After eleven years of imprisonment, Jamaican entertainer Vybz Kartel has been released from the Tower Street Adult Correctional Center, making his return to the streets of Kingston, Jamaica.

In a viral social media video posted earlier today, Thursday, August 1, 2024, Kartel was greeted by hundreds of cheering fans as he joined his family in a convoy home.

Vybz Kartel, along with three others, was convicted on March 14, 2014, for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams.

Prosecutors argued that Williams was killed over missing guns and alleged that Kartel had lured Williams to his home, where he was beaten to death.

However, a recent decision by a United Kingdom-based Privy Council overturned Kartel’s conviction.

The council found evidence of juror misconduct in the initial trial and left the case to a three-person Court of Appeal in Jamaica.

On Wednesday, the Court of Appeal decided not to order a new trial, stating, “The interests of justice do not require a new trial to be ordered,” as reported by the Jamaica Observer.

I haven’t reached an out-of-court settlement with LilWin, ignore such false claims – Martha Ankomah

Martha Ankomah, a prominent Ghanaian actress, has refuted claims that fellow actor Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as LilWin, has sought an out-of-court settlement regarding her defamation lawsuit against him. This follows reports from GhOne News indicating that an Accra High Court had been informed of LilWin’s intention to settle the matter outside of court.

In an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb Entertainment on August 1, 2024, Ankomah denied these claims, stating that the case remains in court and neither LilWin nor his legal team has approached her directly for a settlement.

“It is not true, LilWin has never approached me for an out-of-court settlement. The case is still in court. He hasn’t even approached me personally; he has only sent people to come and talk to me,” she clarified.

Ankomah also confirmed that LilWin has been absent from all court proceedings since the case began.

However, she expressed her willingness to drop the lawsuit if LilWin issues a public apology for his remarks.

“If he does the right thing, why not? I am a Christian; I am ready to forgive. He came out to insult me publicly, so it is only fair that he comes back out to retract and apologize for his statements,” she said.

The lawsuit was initiated by Ankomah after LilWin made derogatory comments about her in a viral video, which she claims harmed her reputation and that of the textile brand GTP. Ankomah is seeking GH¢5 million in damages, both compensatory and aggravated, along with an apology, a retraction, and an injunction to prevent further defamatory statements.

The conflict began after Ankomah expressed her interest in collaborating with Kumawood actors due to their compelling storylines during an interview on Accra FM. LilWin responded with a series of insults in a video, which led to Ankomah’s defamation suit.

Expose NPP for tarnishing Mahama’s image – Nana Aba Anamoah calls out Akufo-Addo

Nana Aba Anamoah, a prominent media personality, has issued a challenge to President Akufo-Addo, urging him to address the issue of deliberate misinformation aimed at discrediting John Dramani Mahama by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a video shared by Nana Aba Anamoah on her X page, President Akufo-Addo discussed how, before the 2008 general elections and beyond, false and damaging information was deliberately spread about him, including allegations of drug trafficking and the murder of his ex-wife.

These stories were purportedly crafted by the opposition to undermine public confidence in his ability to govern.

Nana Aba Anamoah responded by daring the president to also acknowledge how the NPP has engaged in similar tactics against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama.

Her tweet stated, “The President just detailed how fake, scandalous stories were shared about him in previous & upcoming elections by the opposition. It would have been nice to add how his party’s machinery also widely spreads wild false stories about John Mahama. That’s fair.”

During a recent interview on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo midmorning show with Nana Romeo, Ghanaian rapper Kwame Yogot, also known as Kenneth Kyeremateng, caused a stir by naming his picks for the least talented rappers in the Ghanaian music industry.

When asked for his opinion, Kwame Yogot didn’t mince words.

He first criticized Rap Fada, saying, “My brother Rap Fada ,he’s just not good at rapping.”

His second choice was the renowned rapper Tinny.

Despite acknowledging Tinny as his favorite, Kwame Yogot admitted, “He’s someone I like, but I find his rapping lacking. I struggle to understand his Ga lyrics, which affects my appreciation of his music.”

The final rapper on Kwame Yogot’s list was D-Black, who he referred to with a laugh as “the killer” of his list. Yogot suggested that D-Black is the least skilled among the rappers he mentioned.

On a more positive note, Kwame Yogot also named his top three rappers in Ghana: Yaa Pono, Sarkodie, and M.anifest, noting that his selections were not ranked in any particular order.

Kwame Yogot recently dropped a new track titled “Abele,” featuring Ras Kuuku.

Reconsider your decision to quit acting – Papa Kumasi tells Dr Likee

Popular Kumawood actor Papa Kumasi has urged his colleague Dr. Likee to reconsider his decision to quit acting and creating comedy content for YouTube.

Papa Kumasi believes that Dr. Likee’s departure would have a detrimental impact on the Kumawood industry and hinder the progress of emerging actors and movie producers.

Dr. Likee recently announced in an interview that he plans to end his acting career two weeks after returning to Ghana from the United Kingdom.

He cited the stressful nature of his work and frequent false accusations against him as reasons for his decision.

Papa Kumasi acknowledged Dr. Likee’s significant contributions to the revival of Kumawood, highlighting his multifaceted role in acting, directing, and producing.

He emphasized the support Dr. Likee has provided to new talent and expressed concern over the potential negative consequences for the industry if Dr. Likee steps away.

“I understand the frustration from the false accusations and stress, but his exit would be a huge loss for us all. I’m pleading with him to reconsider,” Papa Kumasi said during an interview on Poleeno TV.

This is how the French Embassy reacted to call for Sarkodie’s exclusion from Paris Olympics

A letter from the French Embassy in Ghana has surfaced online, responding to a petition from the New Ghana Social Justice Forum, an NGO.

The Forum had requested the exclusion of rapper Sarkodie from the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The petition, dated July 8, 2024, was directed to the French National Olympic and Sports Committee, labeling Sarkodie as “misogynistic” based on lyrics from his song “Jennifer Lomotey” and allegations from actress Yvonne Nelson’s memoir, which claimed he forced her to abort a pregnancy.

The Forum argued that allowing Sarkodie to perform would be inappropriate, particularly given his past actions and statements concerning women.

In a response dated July 19, 2024, Ambassador Jules-Armand Aniambossou clarified that Sarkodie, whose real name is Michael Owusu Addo, is not scheduled to perform at the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Instead, his performance is set for August 9, 2024, at the Africa Fan Zone “Station Afrique,” an independent cultural event occurring alongside the Olympics.

The Embassy’s letter stated: “Sarkodie (known in private life as Michael OWUSU ADDO) will not be performing at the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. His performance is scheduled to be part of the Africa Fan Zone ‘Station Afrique’ which will be held on 9th August 2024 at Stade Robert César-L’Île-Saint-Denis. Station Afrique is an independent cultural event running concurrently with the Olympic games.”

The Embassy acknowledged the concerns raised by the NGO and emphasized its commitment to equal human rights, gender equality, and women’s empowerment, clarifying that it does not support any form of discrimination.

Rescind your decision to quit acting – Kwasi Aboagye to Dr. Likee

Media personality and broadcaster Kwasi Aboagye has urged actor and comedian Ebenezer Akwasi Antwi, known as Dr. Likee, to reconsider his decision to quit acting.

Dr Likee, a well-known skit maker, recently announced his intention to end his acting career due to stress, false accusations from trusted individuals, and negative comments on social media, a decision he revealed after returning to Ghana from the UK.

During a discussion on Neat FM on July 31, 2024, Aboagye expressed concern about Dr Likee’s potential career change, noting that acting and content creation are his primary sources of income.

He emphasized the importance of perseverance, drawing parallels with successful individuals like Elon Musk and Dr Kwame Despite.

Aboagye advised Dr Likee to focus on the positive aspects of his career and to ignore negative influences.

He questioned, “If you stop this, what would you do? Would you go and sell bread? This is what is giving you your daily bread. Do you think Elon Musk and Dr Kwame Despite would retire or quit?”

Encouraging Dr Likee to continue his work, Aboagye added, “Look at the positives and focus on what you’re doing. Just because of what some people have done to you, you want to quit. Forget those toxic people and continue what you’re doing.

This isn’t something that should make you quit.”

  • I struggled when I ventured into politics – Maame Dokono

Legendary Ghanaian actress Grace Omaboe, famously known as Maame Dokono, has shared her challenging experiences in the political arena.

Renowned for her roles in the popular Akan Drama series “Obra” on GTV and as the host of “By The Fire Side,” Maame Dokono ventured into politics during Jerry John Rawlings’ administration, aligning herself with the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Her political involvement deepened through her connection with former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings.

However, her allegiance shifted when Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo became the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer in 2008.

This change in political loyalty proved significant, as following the NPP’s electoral defeat, she faced severe backlash, with many attributing the party’s loss to her.

Maame Dokono, now 79, will celebrate 60 years in the showbiz industry on September 7, 2024. The milestone will be marked by events including a health screening and the release of her book.

At the event’s launch on July 30, she expressed her determination to stay out of politics, reflecting on her regrets. “If your party loses, it becomes a problem.

I joined both major parties and suffered as a result. Because of my current endeavors, I have decided not to engage in politics again,” she stated.

  • I’m open to take up any acting role – Helen Yawson

I’m open to take up any acting role – Helen Yawson

Helen Yawson, a contemporary Ghanaian gospel artist and pastor, has expressed a strong interest in pursuing acting roles.

Despite her successful music career, Yawson has long nurtured a passion for theater and acting, which she embraced during her school years.

In an interview on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning with Roselyn Feli, Yawson revealed her eagerness to dive into acting, stating she would readily accept any role offered to her.

She reminisced about her academic choices, noting that she had considered studying Mass Communication and Theater Arts at university, reflecting her deep-rooted interest in the arts.

“I was always in theater things, acting and singing. I remember when I was filling out my form for university; I had Mass Communication and Theater Arts. I was always in the direction of arts. I wanted to be an actress but it’s not too late. I’m still going to do it.”

Her path took a significant turn after she relocated to the United Kingdom, where her journey in music began following her conversion to Christianity.

Yawson attributes her musical inclination to her father’s diverse musical tastes, which ranged from pop and country to traditional genres.

She fondly recalls how her father’s extensive music collection and her own enjoyment of singing and lyric writing shaped her current career, even though acting remains a cherished aspiration for her.

“My dad loved music; he had a plethora of genres, so I would listen to everything. He had pop music, country music, and indigenous music. He would play all kinds of music, and I would just soak it all up. I would sing along and write down the lyrics. It was heaven for me,” she added.

  • Gift will open doors but character will sustain you– Joe Mettle to musicians

Gift will open doors but character will sustain you– Joe Mettle to musicians

Ghanaian gospel artist Joe Mettle recently shared his expertise at the Band Experience Music Workshop held in Manchester, UK, on June 22, 2024.

The workshop, which attracted musicians and fans from diverse genres, featured Mettle speaking via video link about the crucial role of character in sustaining success in the music industry.

Mettle emphasized that while talent is essential, it alone is insufficient.

He stressed the importance of continuously refining one’s skills and integrating them with strong personal qualities. “Having a gift is important, but it’s not everything. Enhancing the gift you’ve been given and building on that with the knowledge and experience you gain is crucial,” he remarked.

He further elaborated that character is fundamental for long-term success.

“Your gift might open doors for you, but it is your character that will keep you there and help you thrive. It’s vital to work on integrity, humility, and a solid work ethic. If you find yourself constantly facing difficulties due to your reactions or behavior, it might be time to reassess your character,” Mettle advised.

His insights resonated deeply with the attendees, motivating them to pursue both musical excellence and strong personal values.

The Manchester event, organized by George Addo Jnr, also featured contributions from musicians, producers, and seasoned instrumentalists such as Joseph Darko Wilson, Opoku Sanaa, Ezekiel Julius, Dave da Musicbox, Kwakes, Annor Yeboah, Kwaku Amoako, and Ezekiel Omosebi.

Looking ahead, the Band Experience is set to host its inaugural worship night, ‘Shachah 2024,’ on August 2 in Manchester, UK.

Dancehall star Vybz Kartel out of prison after murder conviction overturned

Dancehall star Vybz Kartel is now back on the streets of Jamaica after being released from the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre in downtown Kingston on July 31.

The 48-year-old artist, who has been dealing with health issues, was greeted by enthusiastic fans upon his release.

Kartel’s freedom follows a Court of Appeal decision earlier in the day, which dismissed a 13-year-old murder charge against him.

Alongside Kartel, Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell, Andre St John, and Kahira Jones were also exonerated.

However, Jones will remain in custody to serve an 18-year sentence for a separate wounding with intent conviction related to a 2009 incident in Waterford, Portmore, St Catherine.

Kartel and the others were originally convicted in 2014 for the 2011 murder of Clive Williams.

Although their convictions were upheld by the Jamaican Court of Appeal in 2020, the Privy Council, Jamaica’s highest court, overturned them in March 2024 due to juror misconduct.

  • Akufo-Addo’s performance over the last eight years underwhelming – Bokpin

Akufo-Addo’s performance over the last eight years underwhelming – Bokpin

Professor Godfred Bokpin from the University of Ghana Business School has criticized President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo‘s performance over the past eight years, suggesting that the results have been underwhelming.

Speaking on TV3’s Big Issue on July 30, Prof Bokpin argued that the President should have achieved more given his extended time in office.

“That is why four years ago we were not speaking like this, five ago we were more sympathetic towards the government.”
Prof Bokpin highlighted that public sympathy towards the government was higher five years ago compared to now, attributing this shift to perceived inefficiencies in leadership.

He also pointed out that both major political parties in Ghana, the NPP and the NDC, have failed to justify the extensive borrowing they’ve undertaken.

He questioned the value of the borrowed funds, asking what tangible assets have been created and how responsibly the money has been spent.

He stressed the need for a thorough evaluation of both parties’ records, advocating for a more transparent approach in assessing their performance.
“Let me ask you and ask our government, not only this government but including the NDC government, what did they use the borrowed funds for? What assets did we create? How prudent were we in spending the funds?

“If you look at it across the two political parties and here I say there is none holy, let us look at it objectively

“A good way to do it is not just to say this flagbearer is holy and therefore let us vote for him. No, there is none holy, let us give them the data as it is.

“I will be happy for a flagbearer to say that we admit our errors, we have been therefore before, all the two main political parties that probably have the chance of governing this country from 2025 have had the chance under the Fourth Republic, we know their errors, we know what they have done, let them admit, let them show repentance, let them demonstrate to us how they have learned from their past, how the data has convicted them and how resolved they are to correct them.”

When his attention was drawn to the fact that the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (ND) former president John Dramani Mahama has admitted he learned from the mistakes he made which is why he is taking that we give him another chance, he answered that “That is not enough.”

Prof Bokpin emphasized the importance of acknowledging past mistakes and demonstrating genuine learning and improvement.

He expressed skepticism towards former President John Dramani Mahama’s claims of having learned from past errors, suggesting that more substantial evidence of growth and repentance is needed.

Since 2017, my gov’t has completed over 12,830 kilometers of roads, six interchanges – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo highlighted the significant strides made in the road sector under his administration.

Since taking office in 2017, his government has completed over 12,830 kilometers of road and constructed six interchanges, achievements he contrasts with those of the previous administration.

Speaking at the launch of the District Road Improvement Programme on Wednesday, July 31, the President emphasized that this initiative embodies his administration’s dedication to decentralizing development and ensuring equitable progress across Ghana.

“Improving our road infrastructure is crucial for economic growth and social development,” President Akufo-Addo remarked.

“This programme will not only advance our road networks but also generate 10,000 jobs for Ghanaians, including roles for mechanics, engineers, and artisans. By equipping local assemblies with necessary resources, we are promoting community ownership and responsibility.”

Election 2024: Play your roles well – Emile Short tells party agents

Emile Short, a former Commissioner at the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), has urged political parties and their representatives to fulfill their roles effectively to ensure a smooth electoral process this year.

He expressed strong confidence in the Electoral Commission’s ability to conduct a transparent, free, and fair election.
“I have confidence in the electoral commission, I am hoping that they will prove to the nation that the elections will be conducted in a transparent, free, and fair manner.”

“The party agents and everybody involved in the elections should make sure that they do their duties diligently to make sure that the whole process is done in a very transparent manner,” he said.

In a recent interview with TV3’s Beatrice Adu, Short emphasized his trust in the Electoral Commission and expressed hope that they would demonstrate their commitment to a fair election.

He called on all stakeholders, including party agents, to perform their duties with diligence to uphold the transparency of the electoral process.

Similarly, Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, reassured political parties of the Commission’s commitment to maintaining its integrity and ensuring a fair election.

“I would like to assure you that there is absolutely no way that at the helm of affairs the commission can change anything because the documentation comes from the ground and we believe that you have copies,” Jean Mensa said on the floor of the House.

She continued: “This is message that we are sending and we continue to send to officers on the ground but thankfully you have your agents there so with the right training, they should be able to scrutinize some of these things and ensure that there is integrity at every level of the processes.”

Addressing Members of Parliament on July 19, she emphasized that the Commission would not alter election results, as parties would have received copies of the results from polling stations.

Mensa highlighted that the process is designed to ensure integrity, with documentation coming directly from the ground and scrutinized by party agents.

She also encouraged political parties to thoroughly train their agents to oversee the electoral process effectively, ensuring the credibility of the results at every stage.

“We would like to call on you to do a thorough education of your agents to ensure that they scrutinize and ensure integrity all across the chain…there’s nothing more than we can declare than what comes to us,” she added.

  • Fuel prices expected to drop between 2% and 4% in August – IES

Fuel prices expected to drop between 2% and 4% in August – IES

The Institute of Energy Security (IES) has forecast a decline in fuel prices for the first half of August, attributing this anticipated decrease to favorable international market conditions.

According to Adam Yakubu, a Research Analyst at IES, the projected reduction in gasoline, gas oil, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices ranges between 2% and 4%.

This forecast is based on positive developments in the global fuel market and a slowdown in the depreciation of the Ghanaian Cedi.

“Following the positive realised on the foreign fuel market coupled with the slowed depreciation of Ghana Cedi recorded on the domestic forex market, the Institute for Energy Security (IES) projects a fall in fuel prices in the coming days.

“This anticipated fall in the first half of August 2024 is attributable to the favourable international market dynamics. Fuel Prices are expected to fall between 2% and 4% for the three petroleum products under review.”

In a statement released on July 30, Yakubu noted that the improvement in the foreign fuel market, coupled with a decelerated depreciation of the Cedi, has led the IES to predict lower fuel prices in the coming days. The anticipated decline is a result of these positive market dynamics.

For the latter half of July 2024, fuel prices showed favorable trends: gasoline decreased by 2.99%, gas oil by 4.59%, and LPG by 1.10%. Additionally, the Ghanaian Cedi’s depreciation slowed to 0.52%, the smallest drop since February 2024.

The IES’s analysis for July’s first pricing window revealed national average prices of GH₡14.23 per liter for gasoline, GH₡14.70 per liter for gas oil, and GH₡15.22 per kilogram for LPG.

However, the IES market scan indicates that Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) like Star Oil, Zen Petroleum, and Benab Oil have recently charged higher prices, reflecting the peak prices during this period.

Kumawood actor Kwadwo Nkansah, known as LilWin, has reportedly chosen to settle out of court with actress Martha Ankomah regarding the ₵5 million defamation lawsuit filed against him.

GHOne shared this update on their X handle, noting that the decision was communicated to the Accra High Court on July 31, 2024, the same day the case was set to be heard following a Case Management Conference on July 25.

The court, led by Justice Forson Agyapong Baah, had previously instructed that LilWin be informed of the hearing and court documents, as he was absent and unrepresented during the last session.

She is seeking ₵5 million in damages, including compensatory and aggravated damages, as well as an apology, a retraction of the statements, and a court order to prevent further defamatory remarks.

The conflict originated from LilWin’s reaction to Ankomah’s statements on Accra FM, where she expressed interest in collaborating with Kumawood actors for their storylines.

Cheating has nothing to do with sexiness, people cheat regardless – Maame Yeboah

Ghanaian media personality Maame Yeboah recently shared her perspective on infidelity in marriages, emphasizing that cheating stems more from a person’s nature than their partner’s attractiveness.

In a live segment on TV3, Maame Yeboah highlighted how advances in technology and beauty treatments have enabled women over 40 to maintain a youthful appearance, often looking as vibrant as those in their 20s.

She argued that a partner’s inclination to cheat is not influenced by their appearance or efforts to stay attractive.

“We live in an era where technology and beauty solutions have made it possible for women over 40 to look as young as those in their twenties. So, even if someone dresses impeccably or looks stunning, it won’t prevent someone determined to cheat from doing so,” she explained.

Maame Yeboah emphasized that fidelity is a matter of personal choice and commitment.

“The decision to remain faithful is a mindset. If someone is committed to staying true to their partner, they will do so, regardless of external factors. Marriage is sacred, and maintaining it requires a conscious and shared commitment from both partners,” she concluded.

What kind of AG do we have? – Blakk Rasta quizzes after Jakpa and Ato Forson’s acquittal

Blakk Rasta, an artiste and radio presenter, has voiced skepticism about the competence of Ghana’s Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, following the Court of Appeal’s decision to acquit and discharge Ato Forson and Richard Jakpa in a case he had initiated.

During his radio show, ‘Urban Blend,’ Blakk Rasta questioned the efficacy of the Attorney-General’s office, remarking that the acquittal suggests a lack of substantial evidence in the case presented.

He criticized Dame for pursuing a case that, according to the court, lacked merit.

Blakk Rasta further expressed concerns about the integrity of the process, suggesting that the trial’s outcome reflects poorly on the Attorney-General’s legal acumen.

“If the courts are saying they have been acquitted and that there is no basis for this trial, then I sit back and wonder what kind of Attorney-General we have as a country.

“That he takes a matter to court and the court looks at the national lawyer in the face and say that you know this case you brought before us is a useless case, are you not a lawyer? Couldn’t you have known there’s no basis for this trial?

“So all the military jingoisms, oh he was sacked, oh he was a bad nut in the army and so forth came to nothing.”

He also highlighted the apparent futility of earlier claims about the accused being unsuitable or problematic, which he feels were undermined by the court’s decision.

In addition, Blakk Rasta called for an investigation into the leaked tapes associated with the ambulance trial, suggesting that the tapes might reveal undue pressure from the president and finance minister to expedite the case.

He stressed the importance of revisiting the tapes and ensuring accountability under the law.

“Now what I want us to go into is those leaked tapes. If the Attorney-General can sit somewhere and say that, the president and finance minister are pushing me, we have to put an end to this trial and finish it quickly, so that we can jail Ato Forson, then I think that we live on dangerous grounds.

We must look at those tapes again and enforce the law,” he said.

These experiences led Malcolm to question the authenticity of the music industry and the treatment of emerging artists. “I wondered, is this really how the world works? Is this what Ghana’s music industry is like? Is this how young musicians are treated?” he reflected. Despite the unfairness, he concluded, “Not everyone will like you or your work, so I just decided to be myself.”

Malcolm Nuna, who is preparing to release a new EP next month, already boasts a 17-track album titled ‘Hasta La Vista.’ The album features collaborations with artists like Larusso, Dead Peepol, Fameye, Tulenkey, Kofi Mole, and Yaw Tog, with notable tracks including Blind Love, Money Man, Baba, Spintex Life, and Party.

Joining Malcolm Nuna on Just Being Us were fellow musicians Kofi Jamar, Yaw Tog, and Kweku Flick. The group discussed their rapid rise to fame during the COVID era and their strategies for maintaining their popularity. These young artists have been celebrated as new stars, earning awards both locally and within the Ghanaian diaspora.

  • Stop sending nude photos – Kweku Flick pleads with ladies in his DM

Ghanaian musician Andy Osei Sarfo, known as Kweku Flick, has publicly requested that women reduce the number of nude photos they send him through direct messages on social media. Despite his attempts to block these senders, the explicit images continue to flood his inbox.

During an appearance on “Just Being Us” alongside fellow artists Yaw Tog, Kofi Jamar, and Malcolm Nuna, Kweku Flick was asked by MzGee about the contents of his DMs. He candidly replied, “Naked pictures. Plenty of them, so I beg, they should reduce it.”

His suggestion for a reduction, rather than a complete cessation, prompted Yaw Tog to inquire, “Bro, make them stop or make them reduce am?” Kweku Flick, smiling, responded, “It cannot stop, you know. I blocked them, but they still keep coming.”

Reflecting on the impact of fame, Kweku Flick attributed the influx of nudes to his appearance. He believes that his good looks attract this kind of attention, although he disapproves of it due to his Christian faith. “They like me because I am a fine boy but I don’t like it because I am a Christian. I don’t joke with God. Seriously, I don’t joke with God, so, I just delete them and sometimes, I block them too,” he explained.

He also speculated that his music style might be a factor in receiving such content. Currently, Kweku Flick is promoting his song “Ye Kom,” featuring Fameye.

In contrast, Kofi Jamar shared that his DMs are filled with motivational messages from fans who feel empowered by his music and foresee a bright future for him.

American comedian Tiffany Haddish has defended her controversial TikTok video showcasing a supermarket in Harare, Zimbabwe, claiming her intention was to challenge the stereotype that Africa is plagued by constant war.

Haddish received criticism from some Zimbabweans on social media after she posted a video of herself walking through a large supermarket in the capital city.

In the video, she expressed amazement at the store’s size and its well-stocked shelves filled with soft drinks, frozen meat, and fresh fruit.

One user on X (formerly Twitter) criticized Haddish, accusing her of ignorance and suggesting she believes Africans shop from rocks.

Another user commented on the misguided perception many Americans have about Africa, thinking its inhabitants live in primitive conditions without modern amenities.

In response to the backlash, Haddish explained on X that she had been misinformed about Africa throughout her life.

She described being shown images of starving children and hearing stories about violence and daily warfare in Africa.

Haddish mentioned that her visit to Zimbabwe had been eye-opening, helping her to learn the truth about the continent.

She shared her experience to inform Americans who might share the same misconceptions.

While some criticized her, others defended Haddish, appreciating her interest in their grocery stores and affirming that the products she found surprising are commonplace.

  • Music consumers should develop an appreciation for Highlife – Adina

Music consumers should develop an appreciation for Highlife – Adina

Ghanaian singer Adina believes that for highlife music to thrive, music consumers need to develop a genuine love for the genre. Despite her ventures into various musical styles, highlife remains close to her heart due to her upbringing. Speaking to Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, Adina emphasized that while there are many ways to promote highlife, consumer support is crucial.

She stated, “When people release highlife music, it should be embraced. In Ghana, most people follow what’s popular, so if a genre gains popularity, that’s what gets promoted. Let’s intentionally promote highlife music. The more we do, the more appealing it will become to younger generations. Most artists just want a hit song, so if the industry supports highlife, it will encourage more musicians to pursue it.”

Adina stressed the need for intentional support from both the industry and consumers to foster a love for highlife music.

Music producer Justice Oteng, also known as Wei Ye Oteng of Drumline Studios, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the influential role producers play. “Producers set the pace. If we push certain beats and trends, musicians will follow, and it can create a movement. That’s how Azonto was made,” he explained.

Additionally, Bessa Simons, President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), announced that starting next year, MUSIGA will award special prizes to winners of the highlife category in the Telecel Ghana Music Awards. Dada Hafco, another panelist, suggested elevating the Highlife Song of the Year category to the highest award of the scheme to boost interest in highlife.

The discussion on preserving highlife has gained momentum following UNESCO’s move to designate highlife as an intangible cultural heritage of Ghana and the global rise of Afrobeats. Highlife advocates in Ghana see the genre as a key to regaining international recognition for Ghanaian music.

This is why Sista Afia shut down her kelewele business

Ghanaian artiste Sista Afia recently discussed the reasons behind the closure of her kelewele fast food joint, Kelevo, in East Legon, during an interview with ZionFelix.

She revealed that the business’s strong association with her public persona was detrimental, leading her to keep her entrepreneurial ventures more private.

“Everyone knew the business was mine. As an artiste, I realized it was better to keep my business separate from my public image,” she explained.

She emphasized that financial issues did not drive the closure; rather, it was about relocating.

“It wasn’t about the money; I just needed a new location. The place I was at first was just a street-side stand, but now I have a shop,” she added.

Sista Afia now operates two other businesses, one in Accra and another in Kumasi. She highlighted the challenges celebrities face in managing businesses, particularly the importance of overseeing finances closely.

“It’s not easy to manage a business. You have to pay attention to every detail, especially the money, to prevent it from collapsing,” she stated.
