  • ChatGPT to erase voice over function that sounds like Hollywood’s actress Scarlett Johansson

ChatGPT to erase voice over function that sounds like Hollywood’s actress Scarlett Johansson

OpenAI has announced that it will remove one of the voices used by its ChatGPT system after users noted a similarity to Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson.

The resemblance was found in the chatbot’s “Sky” voice option, which reads responses aloud.

Users drew comparisons between this voice and Johansson’s performance in the 2013 film Her when OpenAI showcased its new model.

OpenAI highlighted that the voices in ChatGPT’s voice mode were “carefully selected” through a comprehensive five-month process involving professional voice actors, talent agencies, casting directors, and industry advisors.

In Her, set in a near-future, Joaquin Phoenix’s character falls in love with an operating system voiced by Johansson. Director Spike Jonze described the film as a story about love and intimacy, not about technology or software.

OpenAI clarified that the voice was not intended to imitate Johansson.

“We believe that AI voices should not deliberately mimic a celebrity’s distinctive voice,” the company stated in a blog post.

OpenAI is currently “working to pause” the voice while addressing concerns about its selection process, as detailed in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Despite this, during the demonstration of its new model GPT-4o on May 13, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman referenced Her on X.

The demonstration showcased the chatbot’s enhanced conversational abilities, with the chatbot making remarks like “Wow, that’s quite the outfit you’ve got on” and “Stop it, you’re making me blush” when complimented.

The chatbot’s voice and responses sparked mixed reactions online, with some critics pointing out gendered stereotypes. One user commented on X, “This is giving such ‘female character as written by men’ vibes. Why is she so obsequious and flirty?”

OpenAI emphasized that the voices were created to be multilingual and to have an “approachable” and “charismatic” quality that “feels timeless.”

The selection process involved detailed discussions with shortlisted actors about the vision for human-AI interactions, as well as the technology’s capabilities and limitations.

The advanced voice features demonstrated at the spring update event have yet to be rolled out to ChatGPT users but will soon be available to subscribers who pay for faster responses and priority access to new features.

I had a brief “consensual relationship” with Awuah-Darko – Nigerian-American artist denies sexual assault claims

Globally recognized Nigerian-American artist Kehinde Wiley has denied sexual assault allegations made by Ghanaian artist Joseph Awuah-Darko.

Wiley acknowledged having a relationship with Awuah-Darko but described it as a “brief consensual” relationship three years ago, refuting any claims of sexual assault.

On Sunday, May 19, Awuah-Darko accused Wiley of sexual assault in an Instagram post, alleging that Wiley assaulted him twice in June 2021.

“I was sexually assaulted by @kehindewiley. It almost destroyed me,” Awuah-Darko wrote. “I hope my words and openness about my painful experience empower others to come forward. I hope all that unravels creates a path towards not only accountability but recompense and collective healing for other victims.”

Awuah-Darko claimed that while ushering Wiley and another dinner guest to the bathroom, Wiley allegedly groped him and made an inappropriate comment. Awuah-Darko said he responded with “awkward humor” to diffuse the situation.

In response, Wiley called the claims “false” and “not true,” describing them as an “affront to all victims of sexual abuse.”

He stated there is ample evidence proving his innocence and requested privacy while he works to clear his name.

“Someone I had a brief, consensual relationship with almost three years ago is now making a false accusation about our time together. These claims are not true and are an affront to all victims of sexual abuse. I have no idea why he has decided to target me in this way – particularly when there is a litany of evidence showing his claims are false – but I hope he gets the help he needs for whatever he is going through. I kindly ask for privacy as I work to clear my name,” Wiley stated.

‘How I conquered pornography’ – Bishop Oyedepo’s son reveals

Son of Bishop David Oyedepo, Isaac Oyedepo recently shared his battle with pornography addiction in a candid podcast interview, highlighting his personal journey and the pivotal role of faith in his recovery.

Isaac traced the start of his addiction to a trip to Europe, where he encountered explicit content while alone in a hotel room.

Despite the initial allure, he credited his quick recovery to divine intervention, underscoring the power of grace and mercy.

He stressed the value of open dialogue and support networks, admitting that guidance from someone who had overcome similar struggles could have hastened his recovery.

Isaac also noted the widespread issue of pornography addiction, affecting even religious leaders and church members.

Challenging the notion that outward success equals spiritual righteousness, Isaac called for introspection and humility.

He encouraged those facing similar challenges to seek help, reminding them that grace and mercy are always available.

As the second son of David and Faith Oyedepo, Isaac’s testimony highlights the universal nature of human struggles and the transformative power of faith. Alongside his siblings, Isaac exemplifies resilience within his family’s influential legacy.
“I struggled with pornography before. I remembered how it started, we travelled to one country and I was meant to be in the room alone, I switched on the TV and that’s it.

“But God brought me out of it very quickly. A lot of people still struggle with it. If anybody who had struggled with it had walked up to me and told me how to come out, maybe I would have come out faster. I think people feel they are things we should not talk about. Today, there are some pastors and church members still struggling with it,” he said.

“You may be anointed, seeing miracles, signs and wonders but it does not mean you are standing right. There is this old saying that if it is working it means you are standing right but I found out that it is not always the case. There are times I found out I wasn’t right, but grace and mercy found me,” he said.

My career success is by hard work and not sheer luck – Kofi Kinaata

Ghanaian musician, Kofi Kinaata has addressed claims suggesting his rise to stardom was smooth due to his connections with music legends Castro and Samini.

Laughing, he stated, “It is said: ‘Who you know will take you there but what you know will keep you there’.”

Speaking to Nana Romeo on Ayekoo Ayekoo, Accra 100.5 FM’s midmorning program, he elaborated, “For instance, if a nephew of yours wants to be a radio presenter, you might get him an introduction to the management because of your relationship. But after that, he must prove his hard work to secure employment.”

Kinaata acknowledged that working with Reggae/Dancehall artiste Samini and the late Hiplife artiste Castro provided him some advantages in the music industry.

However, he emphasized that many others had similar opportunities but did not achieve his level of success, due to various reasons.

“Castro did not do music with only me. I’m also not the only person Samini worked with,” Kinaata said. This means you might be given opportunities, but ultimately, your success depends on your talent and determination.”

Kinaata’s collaboration with Castro on the career-enhancing “Odo Pa” in 2014 was significant, and after five years with Samini Dagaati’s High-Grade Family, he became an independent artist in 2018.

Since his hit single “Susuka” in 2015, he has achieved multiple hits and recently released his first seven-track extended play (EP), “Kofi oo Kofi,” on May 10, 2024. The EP opens with an ode to his mother, Auntie Ama.

Renowned Ghanaian fashionista, Nana Akua Addo has shared her strategic approach to red-carpet appearances, emphasizing meticulous planning and financial prudence.

She revealed that her red carpet looks are premeditated months in advance, with a clear budget set before the year’s onset.

This budgeting process, according to her, is a family affair, ensuring that her glamorous appearances are financially sustainable.

In a conversation with BBC Pidgin, Nana Akua Addo explained that outfit planning is a year-long endeavor.

She credits her creative team for their guidance and input, saying, “The credit isn’t mine alone. My team and I engage in vigorous debates and brainstorming sessions before settling on a look, after which I source the materials.”

When attending events on Nigerian soil, she approaches with the grandeur of the Met Gala but remains mindful of her expenses.

“I carefully choose the number of red carpets I grace each year. It’s akin to a production, given the artistic uniqueness I aim for. Yet, I ensure it doesn’t strain my finances or impact others adversely.”

She concluded, “Being family-oriented, budgeting is crucial, and we discuss everything. I don’t overburden myself. Instead, I allocate ample time for thoughtful assembly of my ensembles, avoiding undue pressure by pacing myself.”

Nana Akua Addo, just like every other year, was selected among the best dressed at this year’s Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) held in Lagos, Nigeria on May 11, 2024.

Ghanaian rapper Medikal has responded to Fella Makafui‘s public statement regarding their separation by demanding the return of his wedding ring and the drinks he provided for her family during their engagement.

In her statement, Fella revealed that their marriage had ended amicably several months prior and expressed her disappointment over Medikal’s recent public outbursts, which she claims have tarnished her reputation.

Medikal, commenting on an Instagram post made by Fella’s manager that shared her press release, stated his readiness to finalize their divorce once his ring and the engagement drinks are returned.

“As she say she no want this anymore, I’m just waiting for my ring and the drinks. Anytime you guys are ready, I am here,” he wrote.

Fella Makafui’s press statement, dated May 18, 2024, confirmed the dissolution of their four-year marriage, noting that the decision had been made months earlier and was pending customary divorce rites.

Fella also mentioned her intention to pursue legal action to ensure her and her daughter’s safety and to formalize co-parenting arrangements with Medikal according to the law.

    Background

This follows an incident where he alleged that his ex-wife, who still shares their home, reported him to the police.

Barima Sidney reveals why he didn’t sue Wendy Shay over copyright infringement

Following the release of her track “Africa Money,” Ghanaian songstress Wendy Shay faced potential legal issues as bloggers urged Barima Sidney to sue her for allegedly sampling his song.

In a recent interview on Cape Coast-based Property FM, Sidney clarified why he chose not to pursue legal action.

“I’ve refrained from commenting on Wendy Shay sampling ‘Africa Money’ because I don’t perceive it as her sampling my song,” Sidney stated.

“Bloggers tried to create conflict between us, but I don’t see any resemblance between her work and mine. I’m not the originator of the terms ‘Africa’ or ‘money.’”

He further explained, “If I’ve used the phrase ‘Africa money’ and she has also incorporated it into her work, it’s perfectly acceptable. Therefore, I didn’t see any cause for concern. It was the bloggers who suggested I was planning to take legal action against Wendy Shay, but I never made such a statement.”

Sidney emphasized that artists often use common words in their songs, and there’s a limited vocabulary to draw from.

“What I express today may have been articulated by someone else before,” he added.

He continued, “I didn’t perceive any wrongdoing and considered it a normal occurrence. My only grievance was when bloggers fabricated stories to pit me against Wendy Shay to elicit a response from her.”

“I will never assert that Wendy Shay sampled my song just because she used the words ‘Africa’ and ‘money.’ I didn’t coin those terms, so if someone combines them to create something new, there’s no issue,” Sidney concluded.

  • Ghana’s policy makers to blame for cedi fall – IEA

Ghana’s policy makers to blame for cedi fall – IEA

The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) has sharply criticized economic managers for their repeated failure to proactively address the cedi’s depreciation, resulting in unsustainable and reactive measures.

According to the IEA, policymakers have consistently neglected to implement necessary strategies to support the cedi. Instead, they resort to emergency interventions only when the situation becomes critical.

“The question being asked by most people is: what is the solution to the evolving cedi crisis and how do we prevent similar future episodes? To lay economists, the solution may seem monumental—or that is what our economic managers would want us to believe. However, to some of us who are lucky to be more tutored in the subject, we do not see the solution to be rocket science,” the statement read.

The IEA pointed out that policymakers typically wait until the crisis worsens before employing temporary, unsustainable measures.

For instance, the current approach relies heavily on funding from the IMF and other development partners to restore stability, which history has shown to be unsustainable.

In response to public concern, the IEA outlined practical measures to achieve lasting stability for the cedi, addressing the root causes of foreign exchange demand and supply. These measures include:

    a. Acceleration of External Debt Restructuring
The government should promptly engage with the IMF and external creditors to expedite the external debt restructuring process. This would allow the IMF to release $300 million under the Economic Credit Facility programme, which, in turn, would unlock additional funds from other development partners, boosting the Bank of Ghana’s reserves and stabilizing the FX market.

    b. Enforcement of FX Market Regulations
The Bank of Ghana (BoG) should enhance the enforcement of foreign exchange market regulations, including FX carry-on limits, supportive documentation for FX purchases and transfers, and prohibitions on pricing and payments in FX. These regulations would help limit FX demand and prevent speculative activities.

    c. Checks on Illegal FX Dealings
The BoG’s Economic Intelligence Unit, in collaboration with security agencies, should monitor and curb illegal FX transfers and money laundering activities through banks, forex bureaux, and other channels. This would reduce the demand for FX and contribute to the cedi’s stability.

The IEA emphasized that these measures should be implemented concurrently across various phases—firefighting, short-term, medium-term, and long-term—to achieve maximum impact.

The group has consequently urged the government to suspend the process, warning of a potential nationwide strike by workers.

COCOBOD cancels scholarship scheme due to FREE SHS policy

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has announced the termination of its long-running scholarship scheme, citing the implementation of the Free Senior High School (SHS) initiative by the government.

In its place, the Board has established the Cocoa Board Education Trust, aimed at providing essential primary school infrastructure in underserved cocoa-growing communities.

According to the Chairman of the Board, Peter Mac Manu, the decision to terminate the scholarship scheme was necessary due to the impact of the Free SHS initiative.

“With the advent of the free SHS by the Akufo-Addo administration, it’s time for us to adapt and evolve. The COCOBOD Scholarship Scheme, while a notable and valuable programme, has naturally lost its core purpose,” he explained.

The COCOBOD Scholarship Scheme has been in existence for many years, providing financial support to students from cocoa-farming communities. However, with the introduction of the Free SHS initiative, the board has decided to redirect its resources towards providing essential primary school infrastructure in underserved areas.

The Cocoa Board Education Trust, which has been inaugurated by the board, aims to establish model basic schools in cocoa-growing communities.

According to Peter Mac Manu, the trust is a testament to the board’s unwavering commitment to the prosperity and well-being of cocoa farmers and their children.

“As we bid farewell to the Scholarship Scheme, we must look forward and prioritise the continued educational advancement of the cocoa farming community. It’s with this vision that the board of directors has decided to establish the Ghana Cocoa Board Education Trust. This trust is a testament to our unwavering commitment to the prosperity and well-being of cocoa farmers and their children. The primary objective of the Education Trust is clearly to focus on providing essential primary school infrastructure in underserved cocoa growing areas,” he said.

My song ‘Brag’ is not targeted at anybody – Sarkodie clarifies

Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has addressed the excitement surrounding his song ‘Brag,’ in which he name-drops several Nigerian artists and Black Sherif.

Released in May 2024, ‘Brag’ from his upcoming mixtape “The Championship” ignited a rap battle between Ghana and Nigeria. Sarkodie mentioned Nigerian stars Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy in the track, leading to a spirited response from Davido, who supported his artist Dremo in countering Sarkodie’s claims.

Sarkodie dismissed Dremo’s rebuttal, prompting Ghanaian rappers like Lyrical Joe, Don Itchi, Wan Nana, Phrimpong, and CJ Biggerman to defend Sarkodie, fueling a massive lyrical contest. Lyrical Joe’s ‘1960,’ referencing Nigeria’s independence year, was a notable reply.

In an interview with VoxAfrica, Sarkodie expressed his amusement and appreciation for the buzz, highlighting that such organic publicity is invaluable. He clarified that his mentions of Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy were not intended as insults but to emphasize his longevity in the music industry.

“I love it because it’s great PR,” Sarkodie said. “For Wizkid, David, and Burna, I would never jab them because if I want to jab somebody, it has to be rappers. They are not rappers.”

Sarkodie praised the artists he mentioned, especially Black Sherif, whom he considers a close friend. He emphasized that the song’s references were to illustrate his long-standing presence in the industry, not to provoke.

The rapper enjoys the energy and conversation the song has generated, bringing attention back to hip-hop. He mentioned that the buzz surrounding ‘Brag’ is perfectly timed with the release of his mixtape “The Championship” on May 24, 2024.

“I’m super proud that there’s energy out there, especially as far as hip-hop is concerned,” Sarkodie said. “Even if we sat down to plan this PR, we wouldn’t get this. Organic PR is the best kind of PR you can get.”

Sarkodie reiterated that if he were to take jabs, they would be directed at fellow rappers, not singers who have achieved consistent fame.

“If I’m jabbing anybody, it has to be rappers. And I don’t care about that; with that, I can go all out,” he said. “The biggest jab will be the fact that I didn’t mention any rapper because nobody is as consistent and famous as these singers.”

NPP parliamentary candidates allocated 30 slots for recruitment into security services- Ato Forson claims

The Minority has expressed concerns over what they describe as covert recruitment of party loyalists into the security services by the government.

At a news conference in Parliament on May 20, Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson claimed that each NPP Parliamentary candidate has been given 30 slots to fill with NPP supporters within the security services, including the Police and Army.

“Notwithstanding the fact that the Minority raised serious concerns about the criteria adopted by the NPP government to recruit personnel into the security services, it has persisted in taking additional steps in the last few days that we have seen.”

“The NDC Minority can authoritatively state that not long ago, the NPP government again illegally and fraudulently has given out 30 slots to all NPP parliamentary candidates across the country for recruitment into the security services,” he alleged.

Dr. Forson called on President Akufo-Addo and the government to stop what he termed undemocratic behavior, stressing the importance of transparency and fairness in the recruitment processes within the security sector.

Okomfour Kwadee’s current health situation is beyond normal, its a “family matter” – Quick Action

Music producer Joseph Appiah, known as Quick Action, has referred to the troubling health situation of popular musician Okomfour Kwadee as a “family matter.”

A recent video showing Kwadee looking emaciated and unkempt while performing has sparked serious concern among fans and industry stakeholders about his mental health and financial condition. Kwadee has had multiple stints in rehab over the years.

Quick Action, speaking on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, revealed that he last heard from Kwadee in November 2023 when the artist mentioned attending a family reunion. Upon seeing the video, Quick Action expressed his inability to comment further due to the family’s involvement. Despite attempts to reach out, Kwadee’s phone number was unresponsive.

“No matter how much you love someone, you can never take medicine for them,” Quick Action said, reflecting on the limitations of helping someone in need.

Quick Action also shared his past experiences of assisting Kwadee, which sometimes led to public criticism and accusations of exploitation. He recounted an incident where he was accused of using Kwadee’s earnings for a trip to London, despite Kwadee having received the payment himself.

Others, including Abraham Ohene Djan, Ogunskele of 2Toff Fame, Hammer Nti of Pure FM, and Evangelist Lord Kenya, have also faced difficulties in their efforts to help Kwadee, often hindered by his mother’s resistance to outside intervention.

Quick Action remains hopeful, saying, “We pray for him, myself and my wife, we always pray for him and we know we are going to see some positive results.”

Kwadee is celebrated for his distinctive rap and storytelling style, with hits like ‘Abrantie’, ‘Ofie Nipa’, ‘Meko M’anim’, and ‘Yeko Mmaa Pe’.

VIDEO: No rapper is as consistent, famous as Wizkid, Burna Boy and Davido – Sarkodie

Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has ignited a lively debate with his recent remarks, asserting that no rapper matches the consistency and fame of Nigerian music icons Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido.

In a recent interview, Sarkodie clarified that his comments in his song “Brag” were not intended as a jab but to highlight a point about fame and consistency in the music industry.

His latest release has generated significant buzz, prompting responses from numerous rappers across the continent.

Sarkodie emphasized that his mention of Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy was not meant to diss them.

“Definitely, I am not jabbing anyone, and if I am doing that, it has to be rappers, and I do not care about that. The biggest jab will be that I didn’t mention any rapper because none of them are consistent and famous as these singers,” he stated.

Addressing reactions from fellow musicians like Lyrical Joe, Dremo, and Don Itchi, who have responded to the “Brag” instrumentals, Sarkodie views it as a positive for the music industry.

He reiterated that “Brag” is not a diss track, pointing out that if it were, artists like Black Sherif wouldn’t have been included in the references.

Sarkodie further explained his intentions: “It’s great PR, and you cannot pay for this. Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido cannot think I am jabbing them… They are not rappers. I am talking to rappers about how long I have been in the game. I am only using Nigeria’s top 3 singers as a reference. It’s true, I was there when they all came, and it’s about references.”

He continued to highlight the organic buzz around “Brag,” which he sees as beneficial, especially as he prepares to release his “Championship Mixtape.” “Even if we sat down to plan it, we wouldn’t get it as organic as it is,” Sarkodie noted.

Gospel sensation Philipa Baafi is throwing her full support behind fellow artist Nacee, tipping him for the coveted ‘Artiste of the Year’ award at this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs).

Despite fierce competition from notable names like King Promise, Stonebwoy, and Sarkodie, Philipa sees Nacee as a standout candidate, particularly due to his impactful track “Aseda,” which resonated widely throughout the past year.

Philipa commends Nacee’s unwavering dedication and hard work, which she believes have distinguished him and positioned him as a frontrunner for the prestigious award.

In a recent interview with Graphic Showbiz, she expressed, “Gospel music has made significant strides, thanks to God and the remarkable achievements of artists like Diana Hamilton, Joe Mettle, Piesie Esther, and others who have brought honor to us all. • We don’t prioritize mental health enough in Ghana – MC Yaa Yeboah

We don’t prioritize mental health enough in Ghana – MC Yaa Yeboah

Ghanaian media figure MC Yaa Yeboah is passionately urging the nation to place greater emphasis on mental health, particularly among young people.

She highlights that many mental health issues in the country could have been prevented if detected early and if the mental health sector received more serious attention.

During an appearance on UTV’s United Showbiz on May 18, 2024, MC Yaa Yeboah pointed out the swift action taken in other countries when a child’s mental health concerns are identified, contrasting it with Ghana’s tendency to overlook or dismiss such issues.

She criticized the local approach, which often involves ignoring problems or telling individuals to endure their struggles silently, especially in creative industries where professionals may feel pressured to suppress their difficulties and continue working.

“Mental health is not something you can spot quickly until it manifests itself in the open.

“In other countries, kids go through things at age 12, but immediately their parents find out, they quickly take them for treatment or psychological help.

“In this country, we don’t take mental health seriously. When someone is going through something, we tell them to endure it.

“That is why there are a lot of creatives going through things, but they have to bottle it up and still do their jobs as entertainers. They could be having issues at home, but the audience doesn’t care.

“You can think you have a strong head and can go through such things. But you will be shocked the day it breaks you,” she said on the show hosted by MzGee.

MC Yaa Yeboah emphasized that mental health issues are not always immediately obvious and can manifest later if left unaddressed.
She stressed the importance of early intervention and support, particularly for young people.

She referenced viral videos showing musician Okomfour Kwadee in a deteriorated state, urging family members and the community to provide assistance and support for those in need.

MC Yaa Yeboah’s plea resonated with many, drawing attention to the need for improved mental health awareness and resources in Ghana.

“Okomfour Kwadee was one of the most sought-after artists in the country. But now, we don’t know what he went through to get to that level, yet people take their 10 cedis data to write nonsense about him.

“I beg the elders in the family to resolve this matter and assist him in seeking help. I hope he gets the necessary help, either through rehab or spiritual help,” she said.

  • Stakeholders in the entertainment industry need to join forces in supporting Okomfour Kwadee – Amanda Jissih

Stakeholders in the entertainment industry need to join forces in supporting Okomfour Kwadee – Amanda Jissih

Ghanaian television host Amanda Jissih has urged stakeholders in the entertainment industry to unite and support artists facing personal struggles.

Speaking on the United Showbiz show on May 18, 2024, Jissih highlighted the plight of musician Okomfour Kwadee, emphasizing that many entertainers face challenges beyond substance abuse, often overlooked by families and the public.

Jissih noted that organizations like GHAMRO and MUSIGA are overwhelmed and cannot address all cases promptly. She stressed the need for personal connections and financial contributions from individuals within the industry to help artists like Okomfour Kwadee get back on their feet.

“A lot of people are struggling in this industry. If you take a phone and call some people, you will realize many artistes are going through a lot, but their families are watching them.

“You may think they are okay or are out of the country. But they are here with us, going through things.

“If we are waiting for organizations like GHAMRO or MUSIGA, etc., we will be waiting for a long time. Not because they don’t want to, but because there are a lot of people in similar conditions who need help,” she said.

Jissih acknowledged that supporting these artists involves significant expenses, such as securing accommodation and a caretaker, but she remained hopeful that a collective effort could find a solution.

“We, the stakeholders in the entertainment industry, have to join forces in supporting Okomfour Kwadee. We hope that people who know him personally and have money to donate will do so.

“It would be difficult, but we can’t wait for these bodies or institutions. If we are to seek help for him, we have to get him accommodation and a caretaker; all this would require extra costs.

“It’s a big package. But there has to be a way,” she said on the show hosted by MzGee.
Her comments came in response to viral videos showing Okomfour Kwadee in a deteriorated state, prompting public calls for help and speculations about the nature of his troubles.

Jissih’s appeal underscores the broader issue of mental health and support within the entertainment industry, calling for immediate and collective action to aid those in need.

I want my children to marry within the royal family – Otumfuo’s daughter

Daughter of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Dr. Caryn Agyemang Prempeh has expressed her desire for her children to marry within the royal family.

She believes that such unions foster mutual understanding and cultural familiarity, enhancing marital harmony.

Speaking at Joy FM, Dr. Agyemang Prempeh shared her personal experiences and highlighted the benefits of marrying someone who understands and respects royal traditions.

“I was a bit resistant, but then I’ve grown to believe that it makes it easier because, if you marry someone who understands the culture or is familiar with Asanteman and the rules, they appreciate you better. They know where you’re coming from, and so they respect you better. The further you move away from it, the more difficult it is.

“It’s for your own good because that way, the person appreciates where you’re coming from better. In my case, I am not in the royal league. But from my experience, I would want my kids to conform to it; it will make it easier,” she said.

  • Be silent about your personal achievements – Delay

Be silent about your personal achievements – Delay

Prominent Ghanaian media personality Deloris Frimpong Manso, popularly known as Delay, has advised her followers to remain silent about their personal achievements.

In a Facebook post on May 20, 2024, Delay suggested that the downfall of one’s dreams often stems not from a lack of effort or potential, but from sharing these aspirations with others.

She emphasized the importance of keeping plans private to prevent others from undermining potential success, whether intentionally or unintentionally.

“Buying a house? Close your mouth. Buying a new car? Close your mouth. Getting married? Close your mouth. Going on a holiday? Close your mouth. Going to do a course? Close your mouth. Got promoted? Close your mouth.

“99% of the time, the reason that our dreams/visions don’t come true when they are supposed to, is because we open our mouths too soon to the wrong people at the wrong time,” she said.

Delay highlighted that even those who appear to be friends might harbor envy and negatively impact one’s success. She also noted that this caution extends to family members who might experience hidden jealousy.

“We were wrong to share our projects/successes with people who claim to be ‘friends.’ The envy and the low-key jealousy are enough for people to feed off of and tear down what COULD HAVE BEEN before it even happens, so… Close your mouth!!!

“The majority of your ‘friends’ want to see you do well but never better than them!! And just a reminder! Even family members have hidden envy!!!

Despite these warnings, Delay added that such envy cannot thwart what God has intended for an individual, stating, “But, they can’t stop what God has for you!”

The musician asserted that sex is a form of exercise that is healthy for the body.

Speaking in an interview on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the musician indicated that sex works on the whole body and keeps you healthy.

On his part, Keche Joshua advised young people who are preparing to marry to keep it coded and stop parading their private affairs on social media.

He posited that several celebrity marriages that have failed were because of social media.

List of allegations Medikal has levelled against Fella Makafui

Ghanaian rapper Medikal has opened up about the events that led to his separation from Fella Makafui, sharing an extensive account of their marital issues following his announcement at the Indigo O2 Concert.

On May 18, 2024, the rapper detailed his grievances on social media, shedding light on a series of troubling incidents in his relationship with Fella, with whom he shares a child.

Despite initial hesitation to go public due to family ties, Medikal felt compelled to present his side as matters escalated.

    Privacy Invasion by Relatives

Medikal highlighted the lack of privacy in their home, citing constant visits from Fella’s relatives and friends as a significant strain.

He particularly mentioned Fella’s cousin, Bless, who lived with them for two years, and Fella’s mother, who often visited unannounced and disregarded his presence.

    Disagreement Over Tummy Tuck Surgery

A major conflict arose when Fella decided to undergo a tummy tuck surgery for her business, despite Medikal’s opposition. He preferred her natural well-being but reluctantly financed the surgery and associated costs, totaling over $25,000, to support her happiness.

Allegations of Assault and Property Damage

Medikal accused Fella of physical assault and property damage, recounting several incidents, including one where she disrupted a gathering with friends, threw tea at him, and damaged their PlayStation and television.

In another incident, she destroyed laptops in his studio and assaulted him with hangers.

The Dubai Trip and Wedding Ring Incident

Medikal shared an account of Fella’s undisclosed trip to Dubai, where she discarded her wedding ring into a river. He also found an emergency contraceptive, Postinor 2, at home upon her return, raising further suspicions.

    Refusal to Cook

For half of their four-year marriage, Medikal often ate outside due to Fella’s reluctance to cook.

Despite employing domestic staff, Fella persistently avoided cooking duties, leaving Medikal to rely on the nanny or his manager for meals.

    Strained Relations with Medikal’s Family

Medikal voiced concerns about Fella’s strained relations with his family, attributing the tensions to her perception of their bias towards him.

This led to frequent conflicts with his mother and sister.

    Influence of TV Personalities

Medikal expressed frustration over Fella’s admiration for certain TV personalities, which he believes steered her towards an opulent lifestyle and questionable choices.

He recounted a near-tragic incident where their daughter almost consumed ‘weed toffees’ left by Fella.

Fella’s Ungratefulness and Desire for Singleness

Medikal accused Fella of being ungrateful and eager to emulate single TV personalities, neglecting her marital responsibilities.

He reminisced about his efforts to be a supportive husband, recounting numerous instances of financial and emotional support throughout their marriage.

Medikal’s revelations paint a complex picture of their relationship, marked by frequent conflicts and misunderstandings, ultimately leading to their separation.

Okomfour Kwadee’s issues is spiritual not drug related – Ohemaa Woyeje

Radio DJ and reggae artist Ohemaa Woyeje has asserted that Ghanaian musician Okomfour Kwadee‘s struggles are primarily spiritual rather than drug-related.

In a recent United Showbiz interview, she challenged the widespread belief that Kwadee’s condition stems from substance abuse, suggesting instead that deeper, spiritual issues are at play.

Ohemaa Woyeje emphasized that Kwadee, who began smoking at age 12, would have shown signs of addiction much earlier if drugs were the primary cause.

She revealed that despite efforts from herself, Hammer, and other industry figures to help him, they were unable to resolve his issues, which she believes are spiritual in nature.

“Okomfour Kwadee’s issue is not drug related but spiritual. There is more to it than meets the eye. I together with Hammar and other industry personnels came to his aid sometime ago but we couldn’t resolve his issue. The issue we have noted is spiritual, there is more to it I can’t disclose here.”

Medikal equips deprived school with tables, chairs

Ghanaian rapper Medikal has donated chairs, tables, and other educational items to a primary school in Accra where pupils were sitting on stones during lessons.

Medikal’s generous contribution, which included educational materials, dispensary items, and sanitary supplies, was made to the Oduman Asuaba M/A Basic School in the GA South District.

This act of kindness followed the viral spread of photos shared by famous Ghanaian blogger Kobby Kyei, highlighting the poor conditions of the school.

Medikal, fresh from his sold-out Indigo O2 concert in the UK on May 3, 2024, personally delivered the items and participated in painting the classroom walls alongside his manager, Kofi Jam, and the school staff.

The rapper expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and explained that the distressing images of students sitting on stones, which he saw online on May 16, 2024, motivated him to take action.

“Seeing the future leaders of our country sitting on stones and bare floors to study, I felt the need to pick up a call and show love in the little way I could. So, as I stand here, I brought 40 chairs and tables so the kids can sit down and learn and be great leaders in the future. We all know how hardship is in this country, but then again, we find ways and means to still strive and survive,” Medikal stated.

Additionally, Medikal pledged to ensure the smooth operation of the school’s facilities and promised to fix the toilets, a commitment that was met with loud cheers from the school’s pupils and staff.

Kobby Kyei’s post on X, which brought attention to the poor state of the school, played a crucial role in prompting this much-needed intervention.

Sean “Diddy” Combs apologizes for attacking his ex-girlfriend Cassandra “Cassie” Ventura

American rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs has issued a public apology for physically assaulting his former girlfriend, Cassandra “Cassie” Ventura, after CCTV footage emerged showing him kicking and pushing her in a hotel hallway in 2016.

In a video posted to Instagram, Diddy expressed remorse for his “inexcusable” actions depicted in the footage aired by CNN.

“I was disgusted when I did it. I’m disgusted now,” he said in his statement.

“I went and I sought out professional help. I got into going to therapy, going to rehab. I had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I’m so sorry.”

He also committed to improving himself daily.

However, Cassie’s lawyer, Meredith Firetog, criticized Diddy’s apology, calling it self-serving and noting his previous denials when multiple women accused him of abuse.

“When Cassie and multiple other women came forward, he denied everything and suggested that his victims were looking for a payday,” lawyer Meredith Firetog said.

“That he was only compelled to ‘apologise’ once his repeated denials were proven false shows his pathetic desperation and no one will be swayed by his disingenuous words.”

The BBC has not independently verified the video, which shows a man identified as Diddy pushing and kicking Cassie.

The footage was reportedly filmed at the now-closed InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office mentioned that the assault might be too old to prosecute.

Last November, Cassie settled a lawsuit against Diddy, where she accused him of rape and sexual trafficking, for an undisclosed sum.

Several other women have since filed similar lawsuits, and Diddy’s homes were recently raided in a federal human trafficking investigation.

Fella and I have not been intimate for a year now – Medikal

As speculation grows about the end of Fella Makafui and Medikal’s marriage, the rapper revealed that they hadn’t had sex for nearly a year while living in separate rooms under the same roof.

A Twitter user suggested that the situation might not be as clear-cut, noting the couple’s continued cohabitation.

The tweet, written in Pidgin, speculated that the couple’s intimacy might still occur given their living arrangements.

“Medikal and Fella still live in the same house. They want to stay together and co-parent, but they are separated. This isn’t America; they will still have intimate moments. In the video, Fella is wearing a nightgown, meaning they are staying in the same house, but someone said Fella left—laughable,” the tweet, which was in Pidgin, read.

In response, Medikal refuted the suggestion that he had been making love to Fella Makafui despite the turmoil.

“It’s been almost a year, we never nack [never had sex], we live in separate rooms. I have a nanny who takes care of my daughter! I wouldn’t have been this informative but since she involved the public and called the cops on me rather than solving it at home amicably, it’s best y’all be in the know,” Medikal stated.

Fella Makafui, in a statement dated May 18, 2024, confirmed their four-year marriage had ended, a decision made months earlier pending customary divorce rites.

She addressed Medikal’s public claims, asserting they have harmed her reputation but chose not to engage publicly out of respect for their families and their daughter’s well-being.

She announced her intention to resolve matters legally, ensuring safety for her and her daughter, and proper regulation of their co-parenting duties.

The couple, who married on March 7, 2020, publicly acknowledged their separation on March 31, 2024, when Medikal tweeted, “Fella is no more my wife, she is my baby mother, we are co-parenting and it’s all good.”

16 injured in premix fuel explosion at Essikadu Ketan constituency

The number of people seriously injured in the premix fuel explosion at Ngyirasia, a community in the Essikadu Ketan Constituency of the Western Region, has risen to sixteen.

Three of the victims are currently at the Saint Benedict Hospital, Inchaban, while thirteen, including children, are at the Effiankwanta Regional Hospital receiving treatment.

The incident, which occurred around 4:00 PM on Saturday, May 18, 2024, also affected two stationary vehicles: a completely burnt Range Rover and an Opel Astra taxi.

Eyewitnesses told the host of Connect FM’s Omanbapa Morning Show, Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson, that fishermen in the community had gone to buy premix fuel for fishing and were transporting it to the beach when the drum suddenly fell.

The spilled fuel came into contact with fire from nearby fishmongers, resulting in an explosion.

“The drum fell and the fuel started to spill. It unfortunately went to where fishmongers smoke fish in the community. The spilled fuel got into contact with the fire and caught fire. Those who were closer, including children, got badly injured and were rushed to the Effiankwanta Regional Hospital for treatment,” an eyewitness, Kwesi, indicated.

Fire personnel from the Western Region Headquarters of the Ghana National Fire Service responded promptly and brought the fire under control.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Sekondi Takoradi, Abdul Mumin Issah, has since visited the scene and the injured to assess the extent of the damage.

Police have begun investigations to determine the exact cause of the explosion.

Charity begins at home, fighting corruption should start at the Presidency – Franklin Cudjoe

President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, emphasized the crucial need to initiate the fight against corruption from the Presidency itself.

Cudjoe argued that the root of corrupt practices often lies within the highest echelons of power, making it imperative to start tackling the issue at its source.

During the interview with Selorm Adonoo, Cudjoe criticized the effectiveness of the Office of the Special Prosecutor in Ghana’s anti-corruption efforts, labeling it as a “defeatist approach.”

He highlighted specific instances of corruption within the Presidency, such as the Scholarship Secretariat scandal and questionable projects under the Ministry of Special Initiatives, which he claimed were emblematic of the challenges in combating corruption.

Cudjoe stated, “Charity begins at home, and so fighting corruption should start at the Presidency because that is where all the crooked things are cooked. Look at the Scholarship Secretariat scandal; is it not from there? This Ministry of Special Initiatives, was it not harboured at the Presidency, which led to all these dams that were constructed like dugouts and wasted money all over the place. Just take a cursory look at that office.

“So, even creating the Office of the Special Prosecutor was like battling after the facts were established, and people with deep pockets will fight you because they have made enough money to fight you through. We at IMANI say that fighting corruption and waste begins at the Presidency.”

In line with IMANI Africa’s stance, Cudjoe emphasized the necessity of a proactive strategy that targets corruption and wasteful practices directly at the highest levels of government.

OMC’s implement price adjustments despite international price rates

Several Oil Marketing Companies (OMC) have started increasing the prices of petroleum products at the pumps following the commencement of the second pricing window in May.

Shell has raised the price of a litre of petrol and diesel from 14.69gh to 14.79gh.

State-owned Goil has also made a slight adjustment, with a litre of petrol now at 14.55gh, up from 14.40gh, and diesel now at 14.70gh, up from 14.65gh.

Meanwhile, Total Energies has maintained its prices, selling a litre of both petrol and diesel at 14.65gh.

It remains uncertain whether more Oil Marketing Companies will follow suit and increase their prices.

This comes despite market analysts predicting potential relief for consumers due to declining average international petroleum prices.

Analysts attributed the price adjustments to the depreciation of the Cedi against the US dollar, which significantly impacts the pricing of petroleum products.

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) earlier introduced new minimum prices for petroleum products that will be in effect from May 1 to May 15, 2024.

According to a circular issued to Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and Bulk Oil Distribution Companies, the minimum price for a liter of petrol is set at GH¢13.63.

This is slightly higher than the previous price floor of GH¢13.02, which the NPA announced on April 16, 2024.

The price floor for diesel remains unchanged at GH¢13.07 per liter.

Additionally, the NPA mandated that the minimum price for a kilogram of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) should not be less than GH¢10.55 pesewas.

This adjustment marks a rise from the previous rate of GH¢10.52 noted on April 16, 2024.

We do not profiteer from high interest rates – BOG clarifies

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has firmly denied allegations that it deliberately keeps Monetary Policy rates high to generate profits, asserting that such claims reflect a misunderstanding of central banking.

Responding to concerns that high interest rates are hampering economic growth and business profitability, BoG emphasized its commitment to maintaining stable inflation.

Director of Communications at the BoG, Bernard Otabil clarified that high interest rates actually increase the cost of the central bank’s operations and are not profit-driven.

“Anyone who would make such a claim, perhaps, does not understand central banking fully because high interest rate is rather inimical to the operations of central banks. High interest rates rather raises the cost of our open market operations, and leads to large losses.

But that’s the price central banks pay to achieve stable prices. Central banks are not commercial banks and do not seek profits, nor do they face the same financial constraints as private institutions. Central Banks, by the nature of their work, are supposed to provide a public good and that public good is low and stable inflation which comes at a cost. Indeed, a central bank can make losses, get into negative accounting equity and function effectively a loss does not imply loss of policy effectiveness.

However, it is essential to recognize that central banks are mandated to provide the public good of low and stable inflation and cannot trade-off the policy objective of stable inflation with profits.”

Mr. Otabil explained that the central bank’s primary focus is on achieving stability, even if it means incurring losses.

“In most cases, central banks make losses because they are pursuing sound monetary policies to achieve stability,” he added.

Fella underwent surgery post-pregnancy to advertise for her slim tea business – Medikal

Rapper Medikal has opened up about Fella Makafui‘s post-pregnancy cosmetic surgery aimed at achieving a flat stomach, shedding light on the procedure and its context.

He clarified that Fella’s flat tummy didn’t result from the slim tea she promotes but rather from a surgical intervention conducted in Nigeria.

Initially hesitant about the surgery, Medikal ultimately agreed to finance it to ensure his wife’s happiness.

In a statement shared on Snapchat, Medikal revealed his initial proposal of using brand ambassadors for the product’s promotion, citing his preference for natural methods.

However, Fella opted for surgery, leading to a temporary communication gap between them.

Eventually, out of love, Medikal consented to the surgery, which initially took place in Nigeria and was funded by him.

“After our child’s birth, she expressed concerns about effectively marketing the product. Preferring natural methods, I was not supportive of the surgery and recommended leveraging influencers instead. However, she disagreed, leading to a communication gap between us for three months. Out of love, I eventually consented. The first surgery took place in Nigeria, which I funded. During the procedure, she fainted, and I lost contact with her.

“Later, she desired another surgery in Turkey. Despite my reservations, I supported her. My affection for her and my desire to see her content led me to finance the second surgery, including her stay and other expenses. The rationale behind Fella’s decision for a tummy tuck remained unclear to me,” he shared.

Despite reservations, he supported her decision for a second surgery in Turkey, covering all associated expenses.

Medikal’s motive was rooted in his affection for Fella and his desire to see her content, even though he didn’t fully grasp her rationale for the tummy tuck.

The rapper has been active on social media, particularly addressing an incident where he claimed Fella involved the police after he requested her cousin, who had been living with them for two years, to vacate their residence.

Recounting their once blissful union, Medikal cited several reasons for the relationship’s deterioration.

Among these were his dissatisfaction with Fela Makafui’s unsuccessful business ventures despite significant investments, his suggestion for her to undergo liposuction post-pregnancy, and his efforts in showering her with luxurious gifts.

8 months after Akosombo Dam spillage, 200 flood victims in Degorme, Mepe still living in tents

Eight months after the Volta River Authority (VRA) released excess water from the Akosombo Dam, over 200 flood victims in Degorme, Mepe, in the Volta Region remain in dire conditions, living in temporary tents with minimal government support.

    Devastating Impact of the Spillage

In September 2023, the VRA’s decision to release excess water from the Akosombo Dam, aimed at preventing a potential dam failure, resulted in significant flooding.

The spillage displaced around 39,000 people, destroyed properties worth millions of Ghana cedis, halted local economies, and disrupted education.

Current Conditions in Degorme Camp II

Residents of Degorme Camp II are facing severe challenges:

Inadequate Shelter: Rainwater floods the tents during downpours, and extreme heat makes them unbearable during dry days.

Health Concerns: With no clinic or nurse available, residents suffer from skin rashes and fevers without medical care.
    Safety Hazards:

Frequent harassment by reptiles and scorpions adds to the residents’ distress.

Basic Needs: Food and water supplies from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have ceased, and the Ghana Water Company recently disconnected the camp’s water supply.

    Voices from the Camp

Sophia Abbah, a leader at Degorme Camp II, expressed the residents’ desperation: “We feel completely abandoned. Without food, water, or medical care, our situation is getting worse by the day.”

    Call for Government Action

The flood victims in Mepe urgently need government intervention. Immediate support in the form of food, water, medical care, and proper housing is critical to their survival and recovery.

    The VRA’s Stance

The VRA maintains that the controlled spillage was essential to preserve the structural integrity of the Akosombo and Kpong Dams, emphasizing the necessity of managing water levels to prevent catastrophic dam failure.

    Conclusion

As the rainy season approaches, the urgency for relief in Degorme Camp II intensifies. Government and relevant authorities must act swiftly to provide the necessary aid, ensuring that the flood victims can rebuild their lives after this devastating event. Immediate and sustained assistance is a lifeline for these affected residents.
