A devastating car crash on the Accra-Apam highway on Saturday, May 25, 2024, has resulted in the death of blogger and publicist John Claude Tamakloe, while leaving renowned Highlife musicians KK Fosu and Bless with serious injuries.
Tamakloe, who was accompanying Bless as his videographer, died instantly when their Toyota Camry collided head-on with a Benz attempting to overtake another vehicle.
The driver of the Camry, Nana Obiri Yeboah, explained that they moved to the shoulder of the road to avoid the errant driver, who ended up crashing into their car.
“We moved to the shoulder of the road to allow the errant driver to pass, but he ended up crashing into our car,” explained Nana Obiri Yeboah in an interview with MzGee, recounting the moments after regaining consciousness.
“The three passengers had already been rushed to Apam Hospital when I regained consciousness. After securing our belongings, I quickly made my way to the hospital.”
“KK and Bless suffered broken legs, with Bless’s injury being more severe. Unfortunately, the other passenger, an aide to Bless, passed away on the spot,” he added. Yeboah, who regained consciousness after the crash, recounted the chaotic moments that followed.
KK Fosu and Bless were rushed to Apam Hospital with broken legs, while Tamakloe tragically died at the scene. Bless sustained a particularly severe leg injury.
The group was enroute to perform at a wedding when the tragedy struck, marking a somber day for the Highlife music community.
Kumawood actress and makeup artist Naana Brown, alongside her husband Nana Acheampong, popularly known as Santiago, recently shared the unconventional start and growth of their relationship on “The Delay Show.”
Naana Brown, originally from Accra, relocated to Kumasi in 2009, where she met Santiago, a well-known disc jockey and broadcaster, on a movie set six months later.
Santiago, who was also involved in acting, recounted their first encounter with humor, “The first day we met, we fought. I insulted her in my head.”
He explained that while he was minding his own business on set, Naana Brown approached him and requested his chair for makeup use.
Annoyed by the interruption, he reacted internally but later noticed her and became intrigued.
Their interaction evolved after mutual friends praised Santiago, sparking Naana Brown’s interest.
Naana Brown shared her side, clarifying that her request for the chair was straightforward due to work pressure, and she later admired Santiago’s appearance.
Their mutual admiration led them to exchange contacts, and they remained friends for a year before dating.
The couple, both single at the time, married in 2014 and now have three children, with another on the way.
Their love story, full of unexpected turns and humorous beginnings, was highlighted on “The Delay Show” aired on May 25, 2024.
Kumawood actress Naana Brown became visibly emotional during a television interview when her husband, Nana Acheampong, also known as Santiago, expressed uncertainty about the permanence of their marriage.
In a candid conversation on The Delay Show, which aired on May 25, 2024, Santiago shared his realistic view on their relationship, acknowledging that the future is unpredictable, and he couldn’t guarantee they would never face divorce.
“Like any normal couple, we have our disagreements at home. I cannot predict if we will ever part ways through divorce. I’m simply facing reality because the future is unknown,” Santiago explained in Twi.
Reflecting on their early days, he recalled, “When we first met, she questioned whether I loved her. I answered ‘no,’ which made her cry, but at that time, I was unsure. Now, I’m confident in our love for each other, yet the future remains uncertain.”
Naana, however, disagreed with Santiago’s perspective, maintaining a hopeful outlook and firmly believing that divorce would not be a part of their journey together. Overcome with emotion, she began to cry, expressing that Santiago’s comments deeply wounded her, suggesting a lack of trust.
“I deeply cherish my husband and I am committed to staying by his side until death parts us. The thought of divorce has never crossed my mind, and should it arise, I will remain steadfast. I’m not even sure why I’m crying, but I am overwhelmed with emotion. The idea that we might divorce, as implied by my husband, has caused me great pain. It makes me fear that he might disappoint me someday,” she told Delay in Twi.
Naana Brown, originally from Accra, moved to Kumasi in 2009. Santiago, a well-known disc jockey and broadcaster, was working as a presenter at Solid FM and was also involved in acting at the time. The two met on a movie set six months after Naana Brown’s relocation.
The couple tied the knot in 2014. Naana became pregnant during their courtship. They are now parents to three children and are anticipating the arrival of another.
On Friday, May 24, Ghanaian students in Morocco, who are part of the Morocco scholarship programme, staged a protest over alleged delays in the disbursement of their stipends.
The demonstration occurred at the Ghana Embassy in Morocco.
The students stated that the prolonged delay in receiving their stipends has caused significant hardship, emotional distress, safety concerns, and academic difficulties for those pursuing undergraduate, master’s, and PhD programs.
They are calling on the government, the Ministry of Finance, and the Scholarship Secretariat to expedite the release of their funds to prevent further delays.
“The question is how do we survive? Our landlords are chasing us out of our apartments, some of us are sleeping with our friends, some of us are sleeping outside.
“Imagine sending your daughter to another country to come and study for 10 months without sending her money to pay her rent, how do you want her to survive? There are people here in debt, and some are depressed. The last time, we had someone almost commit suicide.
“This is not noise. This is not a story or a narrative, this is what we are going through. Our lives are in danger. We are begging you Mr. President, if you don’t intervene, there will be blood on your hands,” one of the students lamented.
The Electoral Commission’s Director of Electoral Services (EC), Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, emphasized that the Commission maintains a positive relationship with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), highlighting the party’s role as a significant stakeholder in Ghana’s electoral process.
During an interview on JoyNews Pulse, Dr. Quaicoe clarified that the NDC’s concerns about electoral processes are welcomed and addressed by the EC.
He explained that after clarification, the NDC moves forward without harboring grudges.
Dr. Quaicoe underscored the commonality of such exchanges between political parties and the EC, noting that these discussions are not personal attacks.
He emphasized that both entities are not adversaries, as they often share backgrounds and maintain civil interactions.
The recent friction between the NDC and the EC stemmed from allegations regarding missing Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) equipment.
Initially denied by the EC, the issue was later acknowledged, though the EC assured that this incident would not impact the upcoming elections.
During an appearance on Onua TV on May 22, 2024, former Third National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Michael Omari Wadie, failed to mention any completed hospital projects by the government in the Ashanti Region, a key stronghold of the party.
When asked to name a single project completed since the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration took office in 2017, Wadie struggled to provide an example and even resorted to searching on his phone.
The host of the show, Captain Smart, along with co-guest Hopeson Adorye, dismissed Wadie’s reference to the Sewua Hospital project. Captain Smart remarked, “Mahama built Sewua; it’s completed and has been left to rot in the bush.”
When Adorye questioned why Wadie couldn’t mention any of the Agenda 111 hospital projects, Wadie responded that some of these projects are expected to be commissioned in September 2024. Captain Smart and Adorye concluded that, in reality, the NPP had not completed any such projects.
Adorye also expressed frustration over a recent promise by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to ensure the completion of the Pwalugu Dam, a project that began in 2019.
Pwalugu Dam Project: Progress Stalled Despite Initial Promises
Nearly five years after President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo initiated the construction of the Pwalugu multipurpose dam project in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region, progress remains stagnant.
Despite a historic sod-cutting ceremony in November 2019, the project, which had been on the drawing board since the early 1960s, has faced significant delays due to long planning periods and bureaucratic hurdles.
The dam’s construction, aimed at addressing annual floods and deaths caused by the Bagre Dam’s overflow from upstream Burkina Faso, was expected to be completed in about four years and two months.
The project is being executed by Sinohydro, a Chinese state-owned hydropower engineering and construction company.
Financial challenges have been a primary reason for the delay.
Despite the government’s commitment, securing the necessary funds has proven difficult. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer, acknowledged these financial constraints as a significant hurdle.
At the launch of the Northern Development Authority’s five-year strategic plan in Tamale, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the government’s ongoing efforts to secure funds to complete the dam.
Legal expert Maurice Ampaw has announced his plans to take legal action against celebrity couple Medikal and Fella Makafui if either of them publicly discusses private details about their marriage again.
Ampaw emphasized the couple’s significant influence on younger audiences, stating that they should not expose them to sensitive marital content that could negatively impact their lives.
Speaking on Yen Nsempa with Nana Yaa Brefo and Isaac Ekow JB, Ampaw stated, “If they release any arsenal about their marriage, I’ll take them to court. For these two, I’ll change the dynamics.
“They are two mature adults who chose to get married and they keep releasing information that defiles our children. These matters are supposed to be confidential, away from our young children who are not married yet. They can’t be allowed to be exposed to such content.”
He criticizedFella Makafui‘s response to Medikal’s previous actions, suggesting that she should have immediately sued him for breach of confidence.
“Fella’s management and team lack legal advice. The best course of action would have been to drag him to court and sue him for breach of confidence as soon as Medikal started talking,” Ampaw advised. “With an added injunction to restrain him from talking about their marriage.”
Ampaw highlighted the importance of legal advice in such situations and recommended taking swift legal action to prevent further disclosures.
While acknowledging that every relationship has its challenges, Ampaw advised both parties to be cautious in their future actions regarding their marriage.
Minister of Finance Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam addressed concerns over speculative activities impacting Ghana’s currency, the Cedi, during his recent press briefing in Accra.
He emphasized the need to curb these speculations for the country’s benefit, noting their detrimental effects on the Cedi’s stability.
Dr. Adam expressed confidence in the Cedi’s future stability, particularly after the completion of the domestic debt exchange program.
He highlighted ongoing efforts towards fiscal consolidation and reserve improvements as key factors expected to bolster the Cedi’s strength in the medium term.
Despite recent pressures on the Cedi due to various factors such as heightened demand from corporate entities, contractor payments, and speculation, Dr. Adam pointed out positive trends in the currency’s performance.
He noted a significant reduction in the Cedi’s depreciation against the US Dollar, from 54.2% in November 2022 to 27.8% in December 2023. As of May 20, 2024, the cumulative depreciation stood at 14.2%, a notable improvement compared to the same period in 2023.
Overall, Dr. Adam remains optimistic about the Cedi’s stability moving forward, citing ongoing strategies to address economic challenges and enhance currency resilience.
“But for recent pressures, we are seeing on exchange rate movements, the exchange rate has been largely stabilised with the depreciation of the cedi against the US Dollar halving from 54.2% at the end of Nov 2022 to 27.8% at the end of Dec 2023.
“The Cedi’s stability has continued into 2024, with a cumulative depreciation of 14.2% as of 20th May 2024, compared to 20.7% recorded in the same period in 2023. We expect the cedi’s stability to improve into the medium-term as we complete debt restructuring, make more progress on fiscal consolidation, and improve our reserves over the medium-term.”
“The recent pressures we are observing on the cedi is largely on the back of the strengthening of the US Dollar against major trading currencies, seasonal forex demand including elevated demand from corporate institutions, payment to contractors and to IPPs, high Cedi liquidity and speculation.”
Ghanaian rapper Samuel Adu Frimpong, popularly known as Medikal, has named Asamoah Gyan as his all-time favorite player.
During an interview on the Starr Chat Show with Bola Ray on Accra-based Starr FM on Thursday, May 23, 2024, Medikal praised Gyan, stating, “Asamoah Gyan is my favourite player of all time.”
Gyan, Ghana’s record scorer with 51 goals and the country’s second most-capped player, has recently ventured into politics.
He was announced as part of the governing NPP’s campaign team for the 2024 elections and chairs the party’s sub-committee on Youth and Sports.
The retired footballer, who once revealed that he would have pursued a career in law or music if not for football, has already explored the music industry.
Gyan answered: “A musician or a lawyer, because you never win against me when it comes to arguments. You never win. I always find a way to win.”
Asked if he would consider going to law school, Gyan added: “Maybe. Never say never. Now we’re focusing on the All Regional Games and we want to change the sports fraternity, we want the other generation to benefit from it.”
Gyan released several hit songs with his friend Castro in the early 2010s and believes he would have excelled as a lawyer due to his argumentative skills.
As Gyan focuses on his new role in politics and sports administration, he remains a celebrated figure in Ghanaian sports history, having officially retired in June last year after a career spanning over two decades.
Ghanaian actress and socialite Andrea Owusu, popularly known as Efia Odo, has lauded Ghana’s celebrated rapper Sarkodie for his significant accomplishments in the music industry.
Efia Odo commended Sarkodie for his unparalleled success, highlighted by his numerous local and international awards, which she believes distinguishes him from his peers.
She emphasized that Sarkodie excels among African rappers, asserting that his performances are unmatched.
Efia Odo suggested that Nigerian musicians should focus on Afrobeat and other genres if they wish to compete with Ghanaian artists, as she feels Ghanaian rappers dominate the rap scene.
“No one can touch Sarkodie when it comes to rap and style. Nigerians should stick to Afrobeat,” she wrote on X.
Sarkodie has firmly established himself as one of the leading rappers globally, earning numerous accolades, including Ghana Music Awards and BET Awards.
Ghanaian actor Kwadwo Nkansah, widely known as LilWin, has responded to the backlash over a press statement from his team that contained numerous errors.
The Kumawood star faced significant criticism on social media after his Public Relations Officer (PRO) released a flawed announcement about his hiatus from a radio tour in Kumasi.
LilWin clarified that the grammatical mistakes were intentional, designed to generate public interest.
He explained that the strategy was a response to the lack of media coverage following the premiere of his film, ‘A Country Called Ghana,’ at the National Theatre.
“Negativity spreads rapidly. Despite completing the Accra premiere of the movie [A Country Called Ghana] and with the Kumasi premiere on the horizon, it appears the media’s attention has waned, possibly due to the location. I purposely instructed my management to draft a statement with grammatical errors to gauge the reaction of Ghanaians.
“As anticipated, my PRO faced ridicule on social media, with accusations of incompetence. However, who can rival the intellect of Weezy Empire? The aim was to generate interest in the movie,” he explained in Twi in a video shared by EDHUB on X.
Disappointed by the negative feedback on social media, LilWin questioned the public’s tendency to focus on negative news rather than positive achievements.
He elaborated that the deliberate errors were meant to draw attention to his movie and reignite media interest, especially ahead of its Kumasi premiere.
LilWin expressed that despite the ridicule directed at his PRO, his team is highly competent and intelligent.

Following Nigeria‘s recent ban on depicting ritual killings and smoking in movies, Ghanaian director Ola Michael has urged the activation of existing classification laws in Ghana to regulate sensitive content in media.
Speaking to GhanaWeb’s Isaac Dadzie, Michael emphasized that Ghana has regulations to restrict content showcasing smoking, money rituals, and other vices, but their enforcement has been lacking.
“I have followed the Nigerian narrative for a long time. It has existed for a long time. In any movie you see, there has to be some money ritual, some ritual killing, campus ritual killing, and all that. Leaders at that time realised this was going to be a huge problem if they didn’t stop it. So they began looking for some sort of regulation towards it.
“Now, if you come to Ghana, let’s look at the larger board. Is this something we want the young people to keep learning? No. Is it the only thing we can do in movies? No,” he said.
He criticized the political inertia preventing these laws from being operational, leading to the glamourization of such vices influenced by Nigerian films.
“The version of the NFVCB in Ghana is the film classification board. I was an integral part of the people that drafted the law, and I know exactly why we put every single line there. If we had activated this, we wouldn’t have faced these challenges because ours covers TV stations as well.
“So such a law exists, but it hasn’t been activated. The law that we drafted and was passed by parliament is sleeping and that is because the people that have been positioned to activate it are also sleeping. It’s been a political football. So that is the challenge,” he said.
Michael highlighted the importance of active classification to protect young viewers and drew parallels with India’s stringent film guidelines as a model.
He called for immediate enforcement to prevent further negative impacts on Ghanaian society.
“If you watch Bollywood movies, before the movie starts, there’s a classification and censorship certificate shown. After that, there’s a compulsory advert advising people against smoking for every movie… because the tobacco industry is a strong one. You cannot stop them so all you do is create guidelines that will prevent the young ones from smoking. So, in their films, you will never see a young person smoking. It’s either a certain policeman or a rich man smoking.
“In Nigeria, they have the right to even take out any iota of smoke. In the films, they have the right to do that. And you can’t do anything about it. The only way you can deal with them is to go to the courts to challenge the law.
“There are people responsible for that, but they are just playing politics with it. Christopher was part of us when we were drafting the law, and he is supposed to be the chairman of the classification committee but the film authority executive secretary feels she is so powerful that she has to set up her own classification committee.
“And it’s become a political football for the past four or five years. That is why you see all these things happening, and it seems like there’s no law,” he said.

Ghanaian artiste Samuel Adu Frimpong, popularly known as Medikal, has reconciled with fellow musician D-Black following a dispute triggered by a controversial video.
In an interview on Starr FM, Medikal expressed his displeasure over a video showing D-Black and Medikal’s estranged wife, Fella Makafui, sharing a cigarette, which he found deeply upsetting.
Medikal admitted that the incident provoked him to use offensive language towards D-Black and publicly announce a separation from his wife.
During the interview, D-Black joined Medikal in the studio to share his perspective, leading to a resolution between the two musicians.
They exchanged handshakes and embraced, signaling the end of their disagreement.
Their exchange during the interview went as follows:
Medikal: I’m uncomfortable with the idea that people might suspect an affair between my wife and someone else.
D-Black: Brother, you should’ve reached out to me for clarification upon seeing the video.
Medikal: My issue is that you seem oblivious to the problem, as you continue to justify your actions.
D-Black: I’m offering explanations because there’s a misconception that I’m involved with her. I receive messages about it daily, including one this morning. Hence, I apologize for the incident.
Medikal: And I apologize for using the F word on you.
This reconciliation follows criticism directed at D-Black for fraternizing with Fella Makafui and smoking with her at a club, particularly during the time of her widely discussed separation from Medikal.
The dispute arose from a viral video capturing D-Black lighting a cigar for Fella Makafui shortly after the announcement of her breakup with Medikal.

Ghanaian socialite Xandy Kamel has come to the defense of actress Fella Makafui following recent criticism regarding the body enhancement products she promotes.
Kamel emphasized that customers purchase these products voluntarily, without any coercion from Makafui, and urged critics to cease their negative commentary.
“Those ridiculing Fella should be cautious; she didn’t compel anyone to purchase her slimming tea products, so be restrained in your criticism,” Kamel stated in Twi during an Instagram live session.
Reflecting on her own experiences, Kamel recalled facing backlash for criticizing slimming teas due to their potential health risks. She mentioned being insulted and her family being targeted when she shared her negative experiences with the product.
“I warned that the slimming tea could cause kidney issues and other adverse effects, but no one listened. I was accused of harboring animosity towards those selling the products,” she shared.
This defense follows reports of Fella Makafui’s release after her detention for selling unregistered drugs from her Mempeasem store.
Investigative journalist Akwasi Koranteng, affiliated with ISPYGH 247 and the Pharmacy Council Ghana, reported Makafui’s May 22, 2024, arrest following a six-month surveillance of her social media activities.
Confiscated items included fertility teas, enlargement syrups and oils, detox pearls, and sexual vitality teas, allegedly marketed without FDA approval.
However, Makafui’s management has denied the arrest claims, stating on May 23, 2024, that she was merely summoned for questioning.
Entertainment analyst MC Yaa Yeboah has announced that she no longer respects socialite Adu Safowah due to past conflicts.
Yaa Yeboah recounted an incident during a radio interview where they clashed over differing opinions.
This disagreement led to Safowah attacking her on social media with unfounded accusations.
Yaa Yeboah explained that Safowah’s derogatory comments, intended to tarnish her reputation, had a profound impact on her, causing her to lose all respect for the controversial figure.
“I dedicate time to nurturing my talent and knowledge, which define me. When someone attempts to invalidate my achievements, it becomes personal. My respect for Adu Safowah vanished after an interview with Fiifi Pratt, where she made several remarks about Delay and others that I contested.
“After expressing a dissenting viewpoint, she resorted to social media to label me ‘a foolish girl who sleeps with bosses for jobs,’ as though she had proof. I can assert with confidence that no job or favor has ever been a result of such actions,” she said in Twi in a video posted by Abathegreat on their Instagram page.
Rapper Strongman’s affectionate message to his baby mama, Nana Ama Strong, has sparked a buzz, drawing a notable reaction from fellow musician Medikal.
On Friday, May 24, 2024, Strongman posted a picture of Nana Ama on social media with the caption: “I will register my house, my kid, and my left kidney in your name. Man down, call the ambulance.”
Medikal responded to the tweet with an “Aawwnnn” and a supportive emoji.
This exchange drew attention due to the history between the two rappers, particularly their 2019 feud involving personal jabs at each other’s partners, as well as Medikal’s recent marital issues with his estranged wife Fella Makafui.
Reactions were mixed: some praised Medikal for his maturity, while others interpreted his response as sarcastic. Additionally, some speculated that Strongman’s post was a deliberate provocation aimed at Medikal.

In an interview with Property FM based in Cape Coast, the “By Grace” hitmaker highlighted that while he values education, his primary focus remains on advancing his musical journey.
Kinaata underlined the modern avenues for learning, including online courses, as viable alternatives for academic growth.
Acknowledging the achievements of veterans like Samini, Kinaata pointed out their established careers allowed them the flexibility to pursue education alongside their music.
He mentioned, “Samini, for instance, has achieved significant success in music, granting him the freedom to balance performances and further studies.”
However, Kinaata clarified his stance, noting his status as a newcomer in the industry. He emphasized seizing the current momentum in his career, prioritizing musical endeavors while opportunities are abundant.
Following the ongoing marital issues between Ghanaian musician Medikal and his wife, actress Fella Makafui, lawyer Maurice Ampaw has recommended that the rapper consider seeking psychiatric counseling.
Ampaw’s advice comes as Medikal continues to share public statements about his marital challenges, a behavior the lawyer believes is inappropriate and potentially harmful.
Speaking on Wontumi TV on May 22, 2024, Ampaw expressed concern about Medikal’s approach to handling his private matters on social media.
“We have a duty to keep certain aspects of our marriages private. Whatever transpires between spouses, especially in the event of a divorce, should not be aired publicly,” Ampaw emphasized.
The lawyer pointed out that Medikal’s recent actions deviate from this principle, stating, “So why is Medikal airing his grievances on social media? What is happening?”
Ampaw also expressed disappointment, noting that he previously held Medikal in high regard but now feels that the rapper’s behavior indicates he is struggling with the situation.
“I used to commend you, but it appears you’re overwhelmed by heartbreak,” Ampaw remarked.
“I believe Medikal requires serious psychiatric counselling because heartbreak manifests in various ways, and his situation is prompting him to speak out,” he concluded.
Renowned lawyer Maurice Ampaw has advised Ghanaian musician Medikal to seek psychiatric counselling amidst the ongoing marital discord with his wife, actress Fella Makafui.
Ampaw’s counsel follows Medikal’s public discussions regarding his marital issues, a trend the lawyer deems detrimental and unsuitable.
During an interview on Wontumi TV on May 22, 2024, Ampaw expressed his apprehension regarding Medikal’s approach to handling his personal life on social media platforms.
“We have a matrimonial secret. Whatever happens between spouses, in the event of a divorce, should remain private,” Ampaw asserted.
He highlighted Medikal’s departure from this standard, stating, “So why is Medikal airing his grievances on social media? Medikal, what’s going on?”
Ampaw further expressed disappointment, noting his prior admiration for Medikal but now observing behavior that suggests the rapper is struggling with the situation.
“I used to commend you, but it appears you’re overwhelmed by heartbreak,” Ampaw remarked.
“I believe Medikal requires serious psychiatric counselling because heartbreak manifests in various ways, and his situation is prompting him to speak out,” he concluded.

Gifty Anti is married to Nana Ansah Kwao IV, Chief of Akwamu Adumasa, and together they have a daughter.
Veteran actor from Ghana, Fred Amugi has raised concerns about the ongoing leadership disputes within the Actors Guild of Ghana.
These disputes, he emphasized, are adversely affecting the progress of the country’s movie industry.
Amugi pointed out the negative impact of having no functional leadership, which has stalled the growth of the industry since the passing of Reverend Eddie Coffie, the guild’s president in 2016.
Efforts to elect new executives have been halted, leaving the guild without effective leadership to manage industry affairs and advocate for actors’ welfare.
“The film industry is facing challenges like any other business. However, in recent years, internal power struggles and conflicts, particularly within the Ghana Actors Guild, have hindered productivity and quality control,” Amugi lamented.
During an interview with Graphic Showbiz on Monday, May 20, 2024, Amugi expressed hope for a resolution within the Guild to revitalize its operations.
He acknowledged the challenges faced by the film industry but lamented that internal power struggles and conflicts, especially within the Ghana Actors Guild, have hampered productivity and quality control.
Amugi praised platforms like Akwaaba Magic on DStv for their support of Ghanaian films and stressed the importance of continued collaboration to leverage such opportunities and improve the quality of locally produced films.
Drawing a comparison with Nigeria’s film industry, Amugi noted their advantage in accessing subscription-based streaming services like Netflix. He urged unity within Ghana’s industry to bridge this gap and compete effectively on the global stage.
Amugi called for a shift towards collaboration and cooperation among industry stakeholders, highlighting that collective efforts would yield better results and increase Ghana’s presence in prestigious awards such as the Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCA).
He concluded by emphasizing the significance of solidarity in advancing the Ghanaian film industry and creating outstanding films that showcase the country’s diverse talents and perspectives.
“In unity, we have the potential to create outstanding films that showcase our diverse talents and perspectives,” he concluded, underscoring the significance of solidarity in advancing the Ghanaian film industry.
Ghanaian media personality Blakk Rasta, known as the Kuchoko Legend, recently spoke candidly about his birth details and spiritual beliefs during an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo show.
The reggae singer-songwriter proudly announced that he was born on “Monday, September 2, 1974, at 7:20 PM on the dot,” weighing 5.5 pounds, emphasizing the importance of being open about one’s age and rejecting the “inferiority complex” that leads some to conceal their true age.
“Secondly,” he added, “some people also feel when they reveal their age, someone could use fraudulent documentation to trouble them legally.”
Addressing concerns about legal implications and superstitions related to revealing one’s age, Blakk Rasta emphasized his fearlessness in stating his actual age even on public platforms like radio.
“I lived in Tamale up until I left for school in Kumasi,” and “from Kumasi, I came to Accra straightaway.”
Reflecting on his upbringing, he shared his journey from Tamale to Kumasi for schooling and eventually settling in Accra, highlighting his unwavering commitment to transparency and gratitude.
Blakk Rasta also delved into his spiritual beliefs, describing himself as “half god and half human,” emphasizing the importance of constant prayer and gratitude regardless of the time or place. He debunked misconceptions about the duration of prayers, stating that even a simple “thank you God” is a profound form of prayer.
In urging others to embrace transparency and gratitude, he remarked, “thank you God” is a profound prayer, which is why “most of the time when I’m not talking, you hear me saying: ‘Thank you God, thank you Lord, thank you God.’ If you’re a Muslim and you want to thank God, it’s: ‘Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah.’”
The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has issued a stern warning to the public, advising against the purchase of body enhancement products.
This alert comes in response to concerns raised after certain butt enlargement products were found being advertised.
The recent spotlight on unauthorized drug sales, sparked byFella Makafui‘s purported arrest, has intensified scrutiny, especially towards celebrities involved in such practices.
Of particular concern are butt enlargement items, including those allegedly promoted by singer Yaa Jackson.
A social media post highlighting Yaa Jackson’s activities prompted public outcry, with many calling out authorities for inaction.
In response, the FDA cautioned against buying such products and assured ongoing investigations to crack down on them.
“Thank you for the alert. We appreciate vigilant individuals who report such concerns. While our team investigates further, we emphasize that the FDA has not approved any product for body part enlargement. The public should refrain from purchasing this and any similar product,” their response read.
Additionally, the FDA clarified its stance on products making spiritual claims, addressing inquiries about items like the ‘kayamata’ men-charming potion.
The arrest of Fella Makafui by the police is part of ongoing investigations into unlawful drug sales and promotion.
However, Fella’s management refuted claims of arrest, stating she was only invited for questioning and cooperated by providing necessary information and documentation.
“Please disregard the reports about actress Fella Makafui’s arrest. She was invited yesterday and departed soon after, respectfully honouring the invitation.
“She shared all necessary information about the subject matter to assist the investigation and presented her license from the Ghana Traditional Medicine Practice along with details of her FDA-registered products.
“Additionally, she provided information on the few products still undergoing the registration process,” the statement stressed.
These developments follow remarks by Medikal, alleging Fella’s plastic surgery contrary to her product usage claims.
Ghanaian gospel singer Empress Gifty, also known as Gifty Adorye, recently uplifted her husband, Hopeson Adorye, after his release from police custody.
She advised him not to let the arrest affect him mentally, suggesting it could have a positive impact on his life.
Comparing his experience to the story of Joseph in the Bible, she highlighted how challenges can turn into blessings orchestrated by God.
During an Instagram live session, she spoke in Twi about the potential for personal growth even in difficult times.
“God can use a moment of embarrassment to glorify Himself in your life. At times, individuals conspire to sully your reputation and inflict pain, but for me, such challenges fortify you, inspire ideas, and even lead to glorification.
“Joseph was not native to Egypt, but because God had predestined him for greatness, see how God arranged for his own brothers to sell him. They even slaughtered an animal and stained his garment with its blood to deceive their father into believing he had been killed. Little did they know, it was the start of something significant that God intended to accomplish in his life,” she said in Twi during an Instagram live session.
Hopeson Adorye, expressing optimism, shared, “That’s correct. That’s why I stated that what transpired has raised me to glory.”
He was granted bail by a Circuit Court after being charged with spreading false news related to explosive devices during the 2016 elections.
Adorye clarified that the incident occurred in Togo, not in the Volta Region as initially reported.
Rapper Medikal recently shared wisdom with Ghana’s youth regarding marriage, stressing that love alone isn’t sufficient to justify tying the knot.
He emphasized that while love is crucial, it shouldn’t be the sole factor in selecting a life partner.
According to him, marriage involves complexities beyond mere affection.
“Before you get married I don’t think love is enough. Love is not enough for two people to get into marriage. Marriage is a whole different ball game. If you love somebody it doesn’t mean you should get married to them.”
Medikal advised couples to seek counseling and engage with family before making such significant decisions. He cautioned against rushing into marriage solely based on love, warning of potential regrets.
This counsel comes amidst his announcement of his separation from Fella Makafui, despite efforts to sustain the relationship.
While their marriage has ended, Medikal affirmed their commitment to co-parenting their daughter and ensuring her well-being.
Ghanaian musician Samuel Adu Frimpong, known as Medikal, has called for a shift in how media personalities in Ghana cover celebrities.
In an interview with Bola Ray on Starr Chat, he expressed frustration over the media’s focus on artists’ personal lives rather than highlighting their positive contributions.
Medikal criticized the tendency of some media figures to ask invasive questions of musicians while treating politicians with more respect.
“Most of the people in the media space see musicians or artists as persons they can throw any question to,” he lamented.
He argued that this lack of respect for musicians contributes to a negative portrayal of the music industry in Ghana.
“That is why they feel they can ask musicians any question but this is why Ghanaian music is not doing well. Instead of promoting the music business’s positive side, the media always dwells on the negative. That is one of my problems with the Ghanaian media,” Medikal added.
He emphasized the need for the media to promote the positive aspects of the music business instead of dwelling on controversies.
Medikal believes that such a shift in focus would benefit the Ghanaian music scene.
Ghanaian media personality Afia Pokua, also known as Vim Lady, has shared her thoughts on Hopeson Adorye‘s recent comments following his release.
Adorye had earlier boasted about gaining political mileage from his arrest, calling it a unique opportunity during a Facebook live session with his wife Empress Gifty.
He described his arrest as a hidden blessing that brought him widespread attention worldwide.
However, Vim Lady disagreed with his perspective, pointing out potential negative repercussions for Adorye’s family, especially his wife Empress Gifty, a gospel musician, and for the country as a whole.
She urged Adorye to prioritize the safety of the nation and consider the emotional impact on his wife over any political gains he might perceive.
Despite some online support for Adorye’s bold statements during the live video, Empress Gifty appealed for restraint, asking him not to escalate the situation.
She emphasized the emotional toll such situations can take on families, particularly when one’s partner lacks strength and faith.
In response to Adorye’s intention to take action against his critics, Vim Lady echoed Empress Gifty’s plea, highlighting the importance of listening to one’s spouse’s advice.
She expressed her belief that the arrest, while unnecessary, had inadvertently boosted Adorye’s political standing, potentially leading to further issues.
Adorye’s arrest stemmed from allegations of using explosives in the Volta region to intimidate supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) before the 2016 elections, a tactic he claimed contributed to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) victory.
He faces charges of spreading false information and is currently out on bail.
Despite the arrest, Adorye remains defiant, attributing it to his departure from the NPP and alleging internal party elements are plotting against him.
Actress and social media influencer Fella Makafui is currently under investigation by the Pharmacy Council of Ghana for allegedly selling unregistered drugs at her shop in Mempeasem.
Reports of her arrest surfaced on May 23, 2024, but the Pharmacy Council clarified that they did not directly arrest her.
Speaking on Hitz FM, Dr. Daniel Amaning, the Deputy Registrar of the Pharmacy Council, emphasized that the council is not an arresting authority but confirmed that Makafui is under investigation for the sale of unapproved products.
“The Pharmacy Council is not an arresting office. We don’t arrest people. We are not the police.
“People who are not licensed to practice pharmacy or companies who are not registered and licensed to operate in the pharmaceutical sector are doing that, and that is our worry.
“About a month ago, we did a similar exercise at Accra Mall during that exhibition where they exhibited all kinds of medicines purporting to treat several kinds of conditions. That is the practice of pharmacy. And in this country, we have laws, and the laws stipulate who is permitted to do what.
“But we have a current system where people think because of social media, what you do on social media is separate from what you do in real life,” he said.
He expressed concerns about unlicensed individuals or companies selling medicinal products, especially on social media.
Dr. Amaning highlighted a recent operation at Accra Mall where social media influencers were arrested for similar offenses.
“That is certainly what we are acting upon. The vulnerabilities are high, and it is our job to protect people,” he said.
He warned against the dangers of unregulated drug sales and urged the public to avoid purchasing from unlicensed sources.
Makafui’s alleged arrest coincides with her recent separation from her husband, Medikal, leading to public demands for an FDA investigation into her cosmetic surgery promotions and slimming products.
However, her management released a statement refuting the arrest claims, stating that she was invited for questioning and cooperated fully by providing necessary information and licenses for her products.
The investigation into Makafui’s case underscores ongoing concerns about the regulation of pharmaceutical sales and the risks associated with unlicensed products in Ghana.
Ghanaian rapper Samuel Adu Frimpong, popularly known as Medikal, has stood firm on his decision not to apologize to Despite Media following a contentious interview on the United Showbiz programme hosted by MzGee.
Medikal expressed that the interview should have centered on his successful Indigo 02 concert rather than other personal issues.
During a discussion with Bola Ray on Starr FM, he insisted that Despite Media owes him an apology for invading his privacy.
“I am not apologizing to anyone. If MzGee were interviewing a minister, she wouldn’t ask about the minister’s wife and irrelevant matters. Therefore, there’s no need for me to apologize. I did nothing wrong. The interview was meant to discuss my event, and they disrespected that focus, so they owe me an apology,” he stated.
Incident During the Interview: The controversy arose after reports surfaced that Medikal and actress Fella Makafui had ended their four-year marriage.
During a phone interview post-concert, MzGee asked, “Last week on this program, Fella was asked about your concert, and she wished you well. I know her new film is premiering this week. What are your thoughts on that?”
Medikal, visibly annoyed, responded, “Do you understand what you’re asking? You’re acting like a marriage counsellor, which is inappropriate. The call was to discuss the concert. It was a triumph, and I’m happy for everyone. We had an incredible show; let’s focus on that. BBC World featured me today, and I’m gaining significant recognition. Why ask these questions? I’m sure you’re not with your first-ever boyfriend. Life goes on, so let’s celebrate my international success instead of dwelling on these topics.”
Prior to the concert, Medikal had announced on Twitter that he and Fella Makafui were no longer together, stating, “Fella is no longer my wife; she’s the mother of my child, and we’re co-parenting now, which is fine.”
Medikal’s Mother’s Involvement: Kwasi Aboagye, host of Peace FM’s Entertainment Review, disclosed that Medikal’s mother contacted him about her son’s conduct.
She encouraged Aboagye to openly discuss her son’s past behavior and disrespect toward Despite Media, even suggesting that the broadcaster reprimand Medikal if necessary.
According to Aboagye, Medikal’s mother also apologized to Despite Media’s staff and its proprietor for her son’s offensive remarks.
“Medikal’s mother reached out to me. She gave me the go-ahead to speak on her son’s matter, even if it meant criticizing him. She also wanted me to publicly convey her deepest apologies to Despite Media Group for her son’s actions. She’s sorry for whatever her son said about Dr. Osei Kwame Despite, Fadda Dickson, MzGee, and others. She said that it is not her son’s usual behavior,” Aboagye shared on the Entertainment Review show on Peace FM.
Meanwhile, Medikal’s friend, Shatta Wale, claimed that Despite Media’s Managing Director, Fadda Dickson, had reached out to Medikal to offer an apology for the incident on the show.
Media personality Nana Romeo has voiced his disappointment with the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in light of the reported arrest of actress Fella Makafui for vending unregistered body enhancement concoctions.
Romeo holds the FDA accountable for incidents involving celebrities who allegedly sell ineffective body enhancement products, misleading consumers. He urged the government to scrutinize the efficacy of the FDA in performing its duties.
During an interview on the E-Forum show with Abrantepa Benefo Buabeng on GhanaWeb TV, Romeo stated, “I also fault the FDA. I’ve consistently pointed out that the slimming concoctions peddled by these celebrities require scrutiny. Why haven’t they been vetted all this time, given that I’m certain the FDA wouldn’t sanction slimming teas and similar products?
“We’re aware these products are ineffective. They invariably wait for an incident before initiating probes and making arrests. I believe the government should confront the FDA for their lack of effectiveness in their responsibilities.”
Romeo highlighted that the news of Fella undergoing a tummy tuck to slim her stomach while marketing products purported to achieve the same effect, coupled with her police detention, will be a lasting stigma.
“People mock her for undergoing a tummy tuck while claiming to the public that the tea slimmed her stomach. This will be a blemish for Fella, as people will recall this incident whenever she endorses a product.”
Fella’s release on bail followed her detention for allegedly peddling unregistered drugs from her shop in Mempeasem.
Investigative journalist Akwasi Koranteng of ISPYGH 247, a collaborative investigative documentary production company with the Pharmacy Council Ghana, reported Fella Makafui’s arrest on May 22, 2024. This arrest was the result of a six-month surveillance operation monitoring Fella’s social media activities on TikTok and Instagram.
The report mentioned seized items such as fertility teas, expansion syrups and oils, detox pearls, and sexual vigor teas, among others. These products were purportedly promoted without the FDA’s endorsement.
Meanwhile, Fella’s management has denied claims of her arrest, stating that she was only invited to answer questions.
Rapper Medikalrevealed that a video of D-Black lighting a cigar for his estranged wife prompted him to publicly announce their separation.
During Medikal’s performance at the O2 Indigo, D-Black extended good wishes to him, but Medikal responded with insults.
This was due to the Black Avenue CEO lighting a cigar for Medikal’s wife in a club.
In an interview with Accra-based Starr FM, Medikal explained that the video of his partner smoking a cigar compelled him to address their breakup publicly to quell speculation.
“I don’t typically exaggerate things. I value respect deeply. My senior colleague present here understands the principles we abide by. There are certain boundaries we uphold. Witnessing my colleague’s spouse in public, partaking in such activities, didn’t sit well with me,” Medikal expressed.
He concluded, “At that moment, I knew it was over between us. Seeing that video was the tipping point for me to make our separation public. I couldn’t bear the thought of someone assuming that my spouse would engage in such behavior.”
Medikal further elaborated that while he understood D-Black’s perspective, he felt uncomfortable with the situation. Despite wishing to handle the matter privately, he felt compelled to speak out due to the video’s implications.
Background
Critics have since slammed D-Black for socializing with Fella Makafui and sharing a smoke with her at a club during her highly publicized breakup with Medikal. The controversy stemmed from a viral video showing D-Black lighting a cigar for Fella Makafui shortly after news of her split with Medikal broke.
D-Black’s explanation
Earlier, during a question-and-answer session, D-Black clarified that the event he and Fella Makafui attended was a “cigar party” hosted at one of his clubs. He emphasized that he had minimal contact with Fella Makafui for nearly two years before the event and dismissed claims of impropriety. Regarding the specific incident of lighting Fella’s cigar, D-Black stated that he merely assisted her in lighting the cigar she had purchased herself, refuting any insinuations of misconduct.
The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has clarified its stance on regulating products with spiritual claims following public inquiries about the ‘kayamata‘ men-charming potion.
The clarification was issued in response to a social media query directed at the FDA after influencer Hajia Bintu advertised kayamata, a product claimed to charm men among other powers.
This prompted citizens to question the FDA’s regulatory responsibilities regarding such products.
In an official response on their X account, the FDA stated, “Per the law, the FDA is not mandated to oversee products that make spiritual claims.”
The term ‘kayamata’ refers to products marketed with promises of enhancing personal relationships, attracting partners, or boosting allure through purported spiritual means.
These products have garnered significant attention and popularity on social media, raising public concerns about their safety and efficacy.

Fella Makafui’s elder brother, Richard, took to social media to respond to accusations made by rapper Medikal.
He clarified that their family’s silence should not be interpreted as ignorance, launching a series of claims against Medikal.
In a widely circulated video, Richard challenged Medikal’s displays of wealth on social media, asserting that Fella has significantly financed his career by funding music videos and providing other forms of support.
He accused Medikal of arrogance and exaggerating his success, questioning the authenticity of his assets, including cars and buildings, and suggesting that some were acquired with Fella’s financial help.
“Did you not sell Fella’s car to finance your Range Rover purchase? Your boasts of numerous cars and properties are unfounded,” Richard stated in the viral video.
He continued, “You claim to have many cars and buildings, but these claims are untrue. Descend from your high horses.”
Richard detailed specific instances where Fella had supported Medikal’s endeavors, such as renting a house for his music video shoots, including the ‘La Hustle’ video.
“What has Fella ever not done for you? The house in which you recorded the ‘La Hustle’ video was rented by Fella. You are very proud and arrogant, always walking with your shoulders high like a peacock,” he fumed.
Regarding the breakup, Richard refuted Medikal’s narrative, asserting that Fella initiated the split. He criticized Medikal for wasting Fella’s hard-earned money on frivolous expenses and highlighted instances of such behavior.
“You act like you initiated the breakup, but it was Fella. A married man leaves home for more than three months and doesn’t return. When you finally come back, you take the money she earned and run away with it. Or when you need money for a video shoot, you beg her for it.
“You’ve been speaking carelessly. She spends over GHC7,000 on groceries, only for you to squander it with your hungry friends in a short time,” he said.
Richard warned Medikal against underestimating Fella’s support system, emphasizing that their family is ready to defend her against baseless accusations.
“Our family may stay silent, but that doesn’t mean we won’t defend ourselves.
“Fella may choose not to talk to show maturity, but that doesn’t mean you can go from radio station to radio station misbehaving. Don’t think she has nobody to defend her. Fella has a strong family. Do you really know Fella? Do you know her story? She comes from a well-off home,” he retorted.
He also cautioned Medikal against involving their mother in their disputes, responding to claims about Fella’s mother invading their privacy.
“Don’t drag our mother into your mess,” Richard admonished, concluding his response to Medikal’s allegations.

Medikal’s Stance Meanwhile, Medikal has reiterated his readiness to finalize the divorce proceedings, contingent upon the return of his ring and other formalities.
He emphasized that these jobs would significantly improve the salaries and living standards of the workers.
Bediako made this commitment during a meeting with leaders of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) in Accra on May 23.
He introduced several policies he plans to implement if he wins the December 7, 2024 election, with a strong focus on job creation in agriculture and other sectors.
“When we start processing our foods, we can have seven different jobs in one seed. Currently, we are the second-largest producer of cocoa, but the $200 billion chocolate industry benefits us very little,” he said, highlighting the potential of Ghana’s natural resources.
Bediako also discussed other key areas of interest, including healthcare and education. Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah, Secretary General of TUC, praised Bediako’s vision and commitment, referencing a conversation where Bediako explained his innovative ideas, such as dredging the sea to Kumasi.
In addition to his meeting with the TUC, Bediako met with the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) on May 22, where he promised to reduce excessive taxes suffocating businesses if elected.
He acknowledged the challenges faced by traders and committed to revising tax policies to support local businesses better.
“I’ll look into making taxes reasonable overnight. Importing from other countries and facing high taxes means the profit we should make is eroded by interest and living costs. I would definitely revise the taxes,” he assured.
Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Sulemana Braimah, stated that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo ultimately acknowledged his error in withholding the full KPMG report on the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) agreement from the public, leading to its eventual release.
Braimah urged the President to better understand the exemption provisions in the Right to Information (RTI) Act, which he initially relied upon to deny the release.
“KPMG Report: The U-turn by the President isn’t surprising. It’s good they realized they were wrong in hiding behind exemptions to refuse our request. I urge the Presidency to try and have a better understanding of the exemptions provisions to avoid future U-turns,” he wrote on his X platform.
The full report was released on Wednesday, May 22, after the presidency initially withheld it, citing RTI Act exemptions. The presidency explained that despite no obligation to release the report, it was published in the spirit of transparency and openness in governance.
The request for the KPMG report was made on April 24, 2024, by the MFWA under section 18 of the RTI Act.
The President had commissioned KPMG on December 29, 2023, to investigate the GRA-SML transactions. Initially, the request was denied based on sections 5 (1) (a) and (b) (i) of the RTI Act, which exempts information prepared for or submitted to the President or Vice President.
The presidency highlighted a judicial precedent supporting the lawful denial of requests for exempt information under the RTI Act. Despite this, President Akufo-Addo opted to release the report to ensure transparency and public trust.
In a detailed press statement, the presidency reiterated the importance of understanding RTI Act provisions and emphasized that access to information laws include safeguards to protect high-level decision-making processes.
The President decided to waive the exemption privilege and publish the KPMG report fully.

The 21-year-old artist turned heads in a daring blue dress with a revealing thigh cut, which drew both praise and criticism.
While the event was intended to showcase her latest musical work, Ayra Starr’s bold fashion statement became the focal point for many attendees and fans.

Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has called for the complete dissolution of the contentious revenue mobilisation deal between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML).
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Thursday, May 23, Awuni, whose investigative work with the Fourth Estate, a project of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), exposed flaws in the deal, expressed his disappointment with the government’s attempts to retain parts of the contract.
He highlighted the lack of evidence showing that SML held politically affiliated oil marketing companies accountable, noting these companies engage in practices such as diversion, dilution, and under-reporting, which rob the government of significant revenue.
“The fact that politically affiliated OMCs sell products, collect taxes, and fail to remit payments to the government is a major revenue loss,” Awuni said.
Based on these findings, Awuni argues that SML is not fulfilling its duties and recommends terminating the contract.
“From this report, I have yet to see anywhere that SML is tackling this problem. The best move is to clear out this deal,” he stated.
SML Controversy
In April this year, an investigation by The Fourth Estate, uncovered numerous irregularities in the contracts between Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML), the Ministry of Finance, and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
The investigation revealed discrepancies in SML’s claims regarding its services aimed at tackling revenue losses in the downstream petroleum sector.
President Akufo-Addo subsequently instructed KPMG to conduct a comprehensive audit.
Despite SML’s assertions that its services were effectively addressing under-declaration, dilution, and diversion of petroleum products, evidence presented by The Fourth Estate showed that these functions were being carried out by other companies and the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).
Managing Director of SML, Christian Tetteh Sottie admitted to the inaccuracies and promptly removed the false claims from the company’s website.
Despite these revelations and other admitted falsehoods, Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta initiated a process in 2023 to expand SML’s contracts to include the gold and oil-producing sectors. This decision significantly increased the annual contract sum to over $100 million.
Following the investigation by The Fourth Estate and subsequent public outcry, President Akufo-Addo suspended the contracts and commissioned KPMG to conduct an audit and submit a report.
While the president released a press statement regarding the findings, the full report provides even more damning revelations about SML’s operations within its contracts with the Ministry of Finance and the GRA.
Hiplife musician Sidney Kofi Ofori, also known as Barima Sidney, has called on President Akufo-Addo to prioritize the concerns of Ghanaians in his final months in office. While acknowledging the President’s achievements, Sidney emphasized the importance of addressing the everyday needs of the people, particularly the youth.
“If I were to meet President Akufo-Addo personally, my only request to him would be to listen more attentively and address the needs of Ghanaians. While he has achieved much and continues to do so, in his final months in office, it’s crucial for him to prioritize listening to the concerns of the youth and all citizens, thereby fulfilling the promises made,” Sidney said during an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme.
Sidney highlighted the disparity between large-scale projects and smaller community needs. He pointed out that while the government has undertaken significant infrastructure projects like interchanges, smaller yet impactful projects, such as fixing local bridges, could significantly improve residents’ lives.
Despite facing criticism, particularly for his politically charged song ‘Papa No’ during the 2020 general elections, Sidney has returned to the music scene with a new single, ‘BBF,’ featuring Kumasi-based rapper King Paluta. He intends to steer clear of politically controversial songs and focus on his musical career.
Sidney also encouraged young people to engage in politics and express their opinions peacefully, reinforcing the importance of youth involvement in shaping the nation’s future.

American actress Scarlett Johansson has voiced her shock and anger after OpenAI unveiled a chatbot featuring a voice she found remarkably similar to her own.
Johansson revealed that she had previously declined an offer by OpenAI to lend her voice to the new chatbot, named Sky, which reads text aloud to users.
However, upon the bot’s launch, comparisons were drawn between its tone and Johansson’s performance as the AI in the film Her from 2013.
OpenAI responded by stating they would remove the voice, denying any intentional imitation of the star.
Yet, Johansson accused the company and its founder, Sam Altman, of purposefully mimicking her voice.
“When I heard the released demo, I was shocked, angered and in disbelief that Mr Altman would pursue a voice that sounded so eerily similar to mine.
“Mr Altman even insinuated that the similarity was intentional, tweeting a single word ‘her’ – a reference to the film in which I voiced a chat system, Samantha, who forms an intimate relationship with a human.”Johansson stated, referring to her reaction upon hearing the chatbot’s demo.
She disclosed that Altman had con tacted her in September to voice the system, claiming her voice would bridge the gap between tech and creativity. “[Mr Altman] told me that he felt that by my voicing the system, I could bridge the gap between tech companies and creatives and help consumers to feel comfortable with the seismic shift concerning humans and AI,” Johansson wrote.
“He said he felt that my voice would be comforting to people.”
Despite initially declining due to personal reasons, Altman urged her to reconsider just before the chatbot’s release.
Johansson’s legal team has sent letters to OpenAI seeking clarity on how the voice was created.
“In a time when we are all grappling with deepfakes and the protection of our own likeness, our own work, our own identities, I believe these are questions that deserve absolute clarity,” she wrote.
This controversy arises amidst other legal challenges against OpenAI, including allegations of using copyrighted material to train its AI models.
OpenAI, while acknowledging the concerns, maintains that the Sky voice was not meant to imitate a celebrity’s voice deliberately.
They are “working to pause” the voice while addressing the questions raised. Johansson’s allegations await a response from OpenAI as the situation unfolds.
The Supreme Court has delayed a case brought forward by Imani Africa and Security Analyst Prof Kwesi Aning, challenging the President’s authority to dismiss key public officials like the Inspector General of Police, Chief Fire Officer, and Comptroller General of Immigration Service unless for specified misbehavior.
Scheduled for hearing on May 23, the case was postponed as the state has yet to submit its responses. The state’s legal representative requested seven days to prepare the appropriate responses, which the apex court granted.
In their filing alongside security analyst Prof Kwesi Aning, the plaintiffs seek a declaration that, based on a proper interpretation of several constitutional articles, the President lacks the power to terminate these officials unless there is proven misconduct or misbehavior.
The case specifically addresses appointments to offices like the Chief Fire Officer of the Fire Service, Inspector General of Police, Director General of Prisons Service, and Comptroller General of Immigration Service.
The plaintiffs also argue against fresh appointments by new presidents without just cause, citing instances where officials were removed before reaching retirement age.
Their plea includes a request to restrain the President from dismissing these officials except in cases of proven misconduct, retirement, resignation, death, or incapacity.
“In some cases, these removals occur before the individual occupants of the office reach the statutory retirement age.
“For instance in 2017, the then Director-General of the Prisons Service, Mr. Emmanuel Yao Adzator was asked to proceed on leave at the age of 54 and subsequently another was appointed in his stead,” part of the writ read.
