Gov’t will complete Kumasi Amphitheater before December 2024 – Tourism Minister

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey in April 2023 initiated the construction of a state-of-the-art open-air amphitheater in Kumasi.

He stated that the project, part of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) manifesto commitment to build five amphitheaters nationwide, would be completed by July 2023.

“This amphitheater is set to begin construction imminently and should be ready by the end of July 2023. I repeat, we are breaking ground in the next 10 to 15 minutes, and by July 2023, it should be ready,” he confirmed.

As the NPP administration approaches its end, the promised open-air amphitheater in Kumasi remains incomplete.

However, on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, the minister-designate for Tourism and Arts, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, met with creatives at Quarshie Idun Hall in the Kumasi Cultural Center to address the delays surrounding the amphitheater.

Andrew Egyapa Mercer assured attendees that the amphitheater would be completed before December 2024, emphasizing that the Akufo-Addo-led administration is committed to ensuring the completion of the Kumasi Amphitheater.

Why I stopped going to church – ‎Ahuofe Patri reveals

Ghanaian actress Priscilla Opoku Agyeman, popularly known as Ahoufe Patri, has shared why she decided to stop attending church.

In an interview on Joy Prime on May 29, 2024, Ahoufe Patri explained that she found Christians to be somewhat judgmental.

She recounted being criticized by church members for her style of dressing, which she felt was excessive and ultimately led to her leaving the church.

The actress noted that these comments distracted her from her main purpose of attending church, which was to worship God. She added that if she had been warmly welcomed instead of judged, her experience might have been different.

“When people know you and you go to church, you know how our people are; it’s a little too much for me. It has happened to me twice where people commented on what I was wearing. I felt they could have approached it differently. I also felt we lost sight of the reason why I’m there—to worship God. Perhaps welcome me first,” she said.

If we cannot follow this American democracy, let’s stop it – Pentecost Chair tells Bawumia, Bagbin and others

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, and several members of Ghana’s parliament likely had much to ponder after an engagement with Apostle Eric Nyamekye, Chairman of the Church of Pentecost.

In a viral video of the meeting, Apostle Nyamekye urged Ghanaians to embrace selflessness.

“Your Excellency, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana; convenor of this meeting, the Right Honourable Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin; Your Ladyship, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana; for the sake of time, please permit me to address the rest of us as ladies and gentlemen, good evening.

“… all of us who desire to have a good name, you need to serve humanity. Now, the suggestion that I’m going to offer is this: live and work for the good of people,” the pastor said.

Addressing the politicians directly, Nyamekye criticized the monetization of democracy in Ghana, warning it could lead to criminals leading the country.

“Maybe I should turn here and look at the faces of my parliamentarians. You are making democracy too expensive. The monetisation of what we call democracy is dangerous. Soon we are not going to have good leaders because you will need people who have cash, and it doesn’t matter where they got the cash from.

“This thing is dangerous. If we think that we cannot follow this American democracy, let us stop it. Let us design something that would help this nation. It is dangerous, and I’m even afraid of the future; I’m afraid of the future,” he fumed.

He also condemned politicians for deceiving Ghanaians with trivial gifts like cutlasses and lanterns instead of implementing measures to improve their lives.

“How can you deceive people just by buying a cutlass for them, and you pride yourself on it? What a shame. I pray that God will save this land. God will save this land because many of us are poor, and instead of investing in them, you deceive them with lanterns and cutlasses. May God have mercy on us,” he said.

Throughout the address, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin listened quietly. The event elicited mixed reactions, with some attendees clapping and others covering their mouths in disbelief.

US lab distances itself from toxicology test on Mohbad

The National Medical Services Laboratories in Pennsylvania, USA, have refuted the Lagos State Government’s claim about the toxicology test conducted to ascertain the cause of death for singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad.

This rebuttal from NMS Labs emerged amidst ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the musician’s passing.

Before this development, public concern escalated following statements made by a pathologist in the Coroner’s Court on Wednesday, May 15.

The pathologist had initially stated that an autopsy couldn’t establish Mohbad’s cause of death due to the state of his remains.

Earlier reports indicated that in November 2023, O. Akinde, representing the state government, informed the Coroner’s Court about a crucial toxicology test conducted in the United States to determine the cause of Mohbad’s death.

Backing up this information, Gbenga Omotoso, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, mentioned during a live phone call with Ahmad Isah on the Brekete Family online program in February 2024 that the toxicology test was carried out at NMS Labs in Pennsylvania, USA.

Omotoso explained, “The matter is being handled by the state DNA and Forensic Centre, but they are doing skeletal services, and they have affiliate centres which are three.”

He further added, “So, if there is an emergency like this one that we have, they will not say they cannot handle it. So, there are three of them in the US and the one handling this particular one is the NMS in Pennsylvania, USA.”

Reports indicated that the test results arrived in Nigeria in April 2024 and were passed on to a pathologist for analysis.

No one can claim exclusive rights to hosting cooking shows- Ola Michaels fires McBrown

Media personality Ola Michael has addressed actress Nana Ama McBrown‘s recent remarks regarding cooking shows on Ghanaian television.

He argued that the concept of hosting a cooking show on TV isn’t proprietary, having been a longstanding presence in the media landscape.

Citing the inaugural cooking show on the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in 1937, he highlighted the multitude of similar programs hosted by various individuals globally since then.

During an interview on Neat FM, Ola hinted at some media figures’ apprehension about the upcoming cooking show by gospel artiste Empress Gifty on UTV, fearing it might overshadow theirs due to Despite Media’s considerable influence.

“Ever since cooking shows debuted on BBC in 1937, countless such programs have been produced worldwide. The concern arises due to the platform provided by Despite Media, potentially making this show stand out and prompting comments like, ‘God has indeed blessed you.’ However, it’s essential to acknowledge that blessings aren’t limited to just one person,” he remarked.

Recall that McBrown, speaking during a phone interview with Medikal on Onua TV, addressed what she perceived as efforts to replicate the success of her show, ‘McBrown Kitchen.’

In their conversation, Medikal expressed interest in appearing on ‘McBrown Kitchen’ to showcase his culinary talents.

While acknowledging others’ competitive endeavors, McBrown reiterated her faith in God: “While I support anyone’s efforts to make a living, those truly blessed by God will always shine.”

“We are elevating things to another level. I’ve noticed some people actively developing cooking shows, but those whom God has truly blessed will stand out. Despite our shared need to eat, those genuinely blessed by God will radiate,” she added.

‘Hypocrite’ NDC MPs rejected $350m tax exemptions – Afenyo-Markin

Majority Member’s of Parliament (MP) has accused the Minority of hypocrisy after rejecting $350 million in tax waivers for 42 companies under the 1D1F initiative.

During an emergency sitting, Minority leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson questioned the rationale behind these waivers amid the country’s economic crisis.

In response, Majority leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin criticized past exemptions worth billions of dollars granted under the Mahama administration, some without parliamentary approval, benefiting MPs and Gyata Cement.

The Effutu MP accused the NDC MPs of hindering local companies and Ghanaian businesses’ progress.

“But we know that in 2016, this country experienced the most outrageous tax giveaway we’ve ever seen in Ghana when the NDC led by President John Mahama handed a tax waiver of $832 million to Meridian Port Services. At the time, the NDC government applied for a tax waiver of $982 million for the port project,” he said.

“And through the vigilance of the minority then, we shut it down up to $832 million, saved the government and the people of Ghana some $100 million, and even requested that further works be done,”he added.

IPPs threaten to walk away from negotiations on Ghana’s energy debt crisis

Private power producers in Ghana are considering pulling out of discussions aimed at restructuring $1.6 billion in outstanding payments, posing a challenge to the country’s ongoing efforts to manage its debts.

CEO of Independent Power Generators Ghana, Elikplim Apetorgbor expressed frustration that the government hasn’t met its commitments regarding payments, despite concessions made by some producers on pricing and charges for energy.

Apetorgbor stated, “We were anticipating that a significant portion of the arrears would have been cleared by now, with a plan in place for the remainder.

“However, we are now reconsidering our agreements and may insist on full payment of the outstanding amounts.”

As of December, the government had paid around $400 million, Apetorgbor noted.

One aspect of the agreement with the IPPs was for the state-owned Electricity Company of Ghana to stay up to date on its payments starting from June 2023, but these payments have fallen short, according to Apetorgbor, dropping from 70% of monthly bills to just 21% in recent months.

The Finance Ministry did not provide immediate comments on the matter.

Ghana has been engaged in discussions with IPPs since last year to address these arrears as part of its broader strategy to manage external debts.

This disagreement could potentially impact Ghana’s progress under an International Monetary Fund program aimed at making its debts sustainable.

Ghana secured an IMF bailout in 2023 following debt challenges and a missed eurobond payment.

It successfully restructured domestic debts last year and is currently finalizing negotiations to reorganize loans totaling $5.4 billion and eurobonds worth $13 billion.

The Independent Power Producers Group, comprising nine members, plays a significant role in Ghana’s energy sector, contributing over 60% of the country’s peak power demand of 3,618 megawatts and 80% of its thermal energy generation.

My son wasn’t at the front seat, the accident pushed him there – Father on accident involving LilWin

Father whose vehicle was struck by LilWin’s car in a tragic accident, Mr. Jacob Kofi Ampomah has clarified that his son was seated in the back seat, not the front, at the time of the collision.

Initially, critics, including LilWin’s Public Relations Officer, Okyeame Akwadaa Nyame, and broadcaster Nana Yaa Brefo, condemned Mr. Ampomah for allegedly allowing his son to sit in the front seat, violating safety regulations.

Expressing their concerns, they suggested that the father shared responsibility for the accident and cautioned against placing the blame solely on LilWin.

Nana Yaa Brefo questioned the decision to seat a three-year-old in the front, highlighting the importance of adhering to safety laws.

Mr. Ampomah refuted these claims, explaining that the impact of the crash propelled his son from the back to the front of the vehicle. “My son was seated in the back seat when the accident happened. When the accident happened, it threw him from the back to the front. I saw him lying in front of me,” he detailed in an interview with Pure TV.

    Background

The accident occurred as LilWin was en route to the premiere of ‘A Country Called Ghana’ in Kumasi.

In a candid interview on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo midmorning show on May 29, 2024, he shared his past experiences with host Nana Romeo.

We’d go to Makola to steal PK [gum], money, snatching bags… Oh, I have done that before,” he revealed, noting he quit after starting his boxing career in 1995.

Banku stated, “I am a former thief but I stopped. If I say I’ve not stolen before, I’d be lying to God. There were people who were praying for me to stop and I have already.”

In an interview with Roselyn Felli on Joy Prime’s morning show, Nacee recounted how a doctor predicted he would not live past his early twenties due to his condition.

“The doctor said I would die at the age of 20 or 21 because I was a sickler. My childhood was full of sickness, and my mother had to rush me to the hospital almost every time. Unfortunately, my father died three days after I was born, so I never knew him. My mom was determined not to lose me too and did everything she could to keep me alive,” he revealed.

Although he was born into a Christian family, Nacee felt the need to rededicate his life to Christ, seeking a renewed faith to help heal from his ailment.

“Since that time until today, whether the sickness had wings or whatever, I did not feel that anymore, and I’ve been sickle cell free,” he stated.

Number of single mothers raising their sons without a father figure is alarming – Ebo Whyte

Renowned Ghanaian playwright Ebo Whyte has expressed concerns about the increasing number of boys being raised solely by their mothers without male role models.

In a May 29, 2024 interview with Joy Prime, Whyte described the trend of young mothers raising their sons without any male influence as alarming, highlighting it as a significant societal issue.

“One of the biggest issues of our time is boys being raised by women without any male influence. It is a big issue,” he stated. “I am alarmed that more and more young ladies think it’s a good option to have a child without a husband or a man to help raise the boy. This will leave the boy lacking something. He needs a father figure in his life.”

Whyte reminisced about earlier generations when women, in the absence of a father due to death or divorce, would seek out a male figure within the community to mentor their sons.

“In our mothers’ times, when situations compelled them to raise a boy alone, either due to the father’s death or divorce, they would always look for another man in the community to whom the boy could be accountable,” he recalled.

He urged single mothers to find a trustworthy male figure to serve as a role model for their sons.

“If the man is dead or there’s been a divorce, look for someone else in the community whom the boy can look up to, who can support and hold him accountable,” he advised.

According to Whyte, fathers or father figures play a crucial role in the development and upbringing of boys into responsible men.

So you can do all of that if you’re not in good financial standing.”

Generosity is also a key trait she looks for in a partner. Despite societal pressures, Ahuofe Patricia remains content with being single and is not in a rush to marry. Those responsible for breaches in GRA/SML deal must be punished – Dr. Arthur Kennedy

Prominent figure known for his roles as a physician, author, and politician, Dr. Arthur Kobina Kennedy has spoken out about the contractual breaches involving the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML), emphasizing the need for accountability.

In an interview on JoyNews’ AM Show, Dr. Kennedy expressed concern over the violations of laws in the GRA’s dealings with SML, particularly highlighting the lack of approval from the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) for sole sourcing contracts and the absence of parliamentary oversight.

He stressed that individuals responsible for these breaches must face consequences and called for a reevaluation of contracts awarded against legal protocols.

“The SML situation is terrible. A lot of laws were breached in sole sourcing without approval from the Public Procurement Authority, and Parliament didn’t play the role it was supposed to play.

“I think that all those contracts which were awarded contrary to our laws, people cannot benefit from breaking the law, so we need to pull those things back,” he said on JoyNews’ AM Show.

His remarks were made in response to the release of the full KPMG audio report on the GRA-SML agreement, which revealed multiple service agreements entered into without proper authorization and oversight.

“We need to go back and collect their taxes and we need to find out those who were sleeping behind the wheel or looked the other way and why all these things happened when they should have been doing their job.

“I think basically it lays bare the fact that we honour our constitutional structures when in breach even though these things are there on paper. So when powerful people decide that they want to do something, they ignore them and that is a classic example of what we are witnessing,” he stressed.

Dr. Kennedy criticized the lax enforcement of constitutional structures, noting that powerful individuals often disregard established procedures.

Additionally, he praised investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni for exposing the discrepancies in the contract, commending his efforts in combating corruption.

“…it sounds like he does more anti-corruption work than our anti-corruption agencies combined, which is interesting,” he added.

SML/GRA deal has many candidates for jail – Manasseh Azure

Manasseh Azure Awuni has asserted that the contract is riddled with numerous violations that could lead to prosecution.

He believes that those responsible for the wrongdoing could be jailed since it would be possible for any government to take legal action and recover the funds.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, May 25, Mr Azure emphasized that substantial amount of state fund has been inappropriately paid to individuals who did not deserve it.

He called for accountability and urged the government to take decisive action against those involved in the contract.

“This is a case that has a number of candidates for jail if any government wants to take this up, it is going to be very easy to put people in jail, and it is going to be very easy for us to retrieve hundreds if not billions of cedis paid to people who did not deserve a pesewa,” he stated.

  • BOG demands list of all persons, institutions interested in acquiring shares of SG Ghana

BOG demands list of all persons, institutions interested in acquiring shares of SG Ghana

Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Ernest Addison has announced that the central bank will require a comprehensive list of individuals and organizations interested in acquiring shares of Societe Generale (SG) Ghana.

Initial reports indicated that SG Group in France, which owns 60.22% of SG Ghana, is planning to sell its shares and leave the country as part of a strategic move.

During a press briefing to announce the policy rate, Dr. Addison responded to inquiries on the matter, stating that the Bank of Ghana has formally informed SG Bank through its subsidiary in Cote D’Ivoire to provide his office with all forthcoming plans regarding share sales.

“I have engaged with their Cote D’Ivoire office and emphasized our desire not to be caught off guard. While we’ve heard rumblings, we want a comprehensive list of potential share buyers. I’ve communicated these concerns to their Cote D’Ivoire office, and we anticipate a response soon,” he remarked.

He clarified that the Bank of Ghana has not received any official communication from SG and is thus taking proactive measures by reaching out to the bank.

“We haven’t received official confirmation from SG, either from their headquarters or their Accra office. Our aim is to ascertain the list of potential share purchasers, and we’ve expressed this concern. Hopefully, we’ll receive a response from the group soon,” he reiterated.

Background information reveals that Hakim Ouzzani, the Managing Director of SG Ghana, previously stated that the news of the bank exiting the Ghanaian market did not originate from the Group Head Office in France. This statement was made during the Bank’s Annual General Meeting in Accra, after which Ouzzani declined further questions.

In a report by Fitch Ratings, it was projected that SG’s departure from Africa would create opportunities for pan-African banks to expand, either organically or through mergers and acquisitions. Despite potential short-term challenges, this move was expected to foster competition and benefit local banking sectors.

SG has recently announced the sale of Societe Generale Marocaine de Banques (SGMB) and its subsidiaries to the Moroccan conglomerate Saham Group, following a trend of African divestments by French banks in recent years.

The exit of highly rated foreign shareholders, such as SG, can pose challenges for divested subsidiaries in terms of credit ratings and access to global financial systems. However, this shift also presents opportunities for local and regional banks in Africa to grow and compete with established institutions.

As French banks refocus on more mature markets in Europe, their reduced presence in African banking is viewed as slightly positive, aligning with their risk strategies and regulatory environments.

  • “Politicians in Ghana are thieves” – Kwaw Kese

“Politicians in Ghana are thieves” – Kwaw Kese

Ghanaian rapper Kwaw Kese has stirred controversy by asserting that politicians in Ghana are thieves.

Known for his outspoken nature, he has invited politicians vying for his vote or campaign support to negotiate the price.

Despite the legal implications of vote buying under Ghana’s Criminal Code of 1960, Kwaw Kese is encouraging his fans to consider engaging in such acts.

Section 240 of the code explicitly condemns corruption related to votes.

“A … voter is guilty of corruption in respect of … his vote, if he directly or indirectly agrees or offers his conduct as such … voter to be influenced by the gift, promise, or prospect of any valuable consideration to be received by such … voter … from any person whomsoever.”

Speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s Midmorning Show, Kwaw Kese voiced his frustration with political leaders, accusing them of consistently neglecting the needs of Ghanaians and failing to deliver on their promises.

He criticized their tendency to prioritize personal gain over public welfare, labeling them as thieves who misuse state funds.

“Politicians in Ghana are thieves, “If you want me to vote for you so you can be elected and earn money, you must pay for it. Politicians embezzle a substantial amount when in power,” he said.

Kwaw Kese highlighted ongoing issues like inadequate infrastructure, poor education facilities, water shortages, and substandard roads, contrasting these with unfulfilled campaign pledges.

He argued that demanding payment for votes was justified given the pervasive corruption in politics, emphasizing the need for accountability and tangible benefits for voters.

“I endorse those who demand payment from politicians before casting their votes. Our roads are in deplorable condition, schools are still under trees, and the energy crisis is wreaking havoc on our lives. Either pay for the votes or don’t expect them.

“When you vote for someone, you are essentially offering them a job. But once they are paid, will they share a portion of their salary with you? You vote for someone, and that person gets to manage our billions while you remain hungry and financially struggling.

“Your votes profit them, and your votes create millionaires. People approach you to wash your clothes when an election is near, but once they are in power, they squander our money and ignore you. So, please sell your vote. If you can’t sell it, then don’t vote at all.”

The rapper’s stance has ignited a national debate on voter responsibility and the ethical implications of selling votes.

Calls for arrest of Kumawood actor LilWin over fatal accident intensify

Following the the aftermath of a tragic accident that resulted in the death of three-year-old Emmanuel Richard Ampomah, there are increasing calls for the arrest and investigation of actor Kwadwo Nkansah, known as LilWin.

The latest to demand action is Accident Victim Support Ghana, an organization advocating for accident victims’ rights. The group’s president, Rev. Cyril Crabbe, emphasized on Joy FM that Lilwin should have been detained and questioned immediately following the head-on collision.

Rev. Crabbe criticized the police’s handling of the incident, arguing that allowing the actor to walk free shortly after the accident, despite his own injuries, was a threat to his safety and compromised the investigation.

“He should not have been allowed to be walking around because he himself was hurt, so his health matters. What if he came out and died? Mind you, he is the culprit, and we are going to get him to narrate the incident. We are going to use him to investigate the accident, and here is the case: he was out there the night the case happened. The next day, he went to church, which means that this guy is fit; he should have been taken to the police so that he would be questioned,” he said.

He also noted that Lilwin’s public statements showed a lack of empathy towards the deceased child’s family.

“The next step is to visit the deceased family. There, they would have been consoled. There would have been some empathy, but you can see till date, and he is out there still talking. This is a minor, precious one as such,” he added.

“We are seeing too much on their side, and the police must not see their popularity as they are above the law on our roads. They must be put to order. If they are driving recklessly.

“We see, Okada [Commercial motorbikes] whenever a celebrity is coming, we see recklessness in the area of Okada and the noise and all that, which are not road safety required, and so we must check on these celebrities. So they themselves would know they are not above the law; they are also road users, and they must consider other road users as well to save lives,” Mr. Crabbe further noted.

The family of Emmanuel Richard Ampomah expressed their outrage over the actor’s perceived indifference and the delay in the investigation.

Kofi Aboagye, the senior brother of the deceased’s father, condemned Lilwin and his management for their dismissive attitude.

“We are yet to write a police statement on it. We have not concluded on the criminality of it, meanwhile Lil Win and his management have shown utter indifference towards us.”

Rev. Crabbe highlighted the broader issue of celebrities’ reckless behavior on the roads and urged the police to enforce traffic laws without bias, emphasizing that no one is above the law.

US real estate billionaire to explore the Titanic

Ohio tycoon Larry Connor and Patrick Lahey, co-founder of Triton Submarines, are planning a deep-sea submersible expedition to explore the Titanic wreck.

They intend to dive to approximately 3,800 meters (12,467 feet) in the North Atlantic Ocean using the Triton 4000/2 Abyssal Explorer.

This venture comes after the tragic implosion of OceanGate’s Titan submersible last year, which killed five people on a similar mission.

The new expedition will only proceed once the submersible is fully certified by a marine organization, and no timeline has been set.

Connor aims to demonstrate the beauty and transformative power of the ocean when explored safely.

The duo hopes this mission will restore confidence in the private submersible industry, which has struggled since the Titan disaster.

Both Connor and Lahey have previous deep-sea exploration experience, having reached the Challenger Deep in 2021. Triton Submarines has yet to comment on the planned Titanic expedition.

Sarkodie’s collaboration with me in 2016 significantly impacted my career – Medikal

Ghanaian musician Samuel Adu Frimpong, better known as Medikal, has expressed profound gratitude to Sarkodie for his early career support.

In a recent interview with KSM, Medikal recounted how Sarkodie’s willingness to collaborate in 2016 significantly impacted his journey in the music industry.

Medikal reminisced about his first encounter with Sarkodie when he was still an up-and-coming artist.

To his delight and surprise, Sarkodie agreed to remix his song “Confirm” without hesitation.

“I dropped ‘Confirm’ remix, and after it started flying, I hit up Sarkodie and Angel Town. I idolize Sark; I needed him so much, and he sent his verse through very quickly. I asked if we could shoot the video, and he didn’t charge me for anything—not even styling. After that, we did other projects. Sark has never said no to me,” Medikal revealed.

Inspired by Sarkodie’s generosity, Medikal now offers free verses to talented emerging musicians. He believes that supporting budding artists is essential, just as Sarkodie did for him.

“For someone as big as Sarkodie to spend their time on you as a rookie is amazing. That is why sometimes I do it for others. When someone has the talent, and you can give a verse to uplift the person in a certain way, you should go for it,” Medikal said.

Medikal hopes that by emulating Sarkodie’s gesture, he can help other upcoming talented artists find their footing and succeed in their musical careers.

Widely regarded as the world’s best footballer, Messi is known for his preference for Spanish, having spent most of his professional career in Spain, Argentina, and a few years in Paris.

Even at international events like the FIFA awards and Ballon d’Or ceremonies, the “GOAT” (Greatest of All Time) typically avoids speaking English.

However, in a surprising twist, Messi was heard speaking a two-line English sentence in a trailer for “Bad Boys,” an American movie.

This rare occurrence has taken the internet by storm, with fans expressing their astonishment.

American actors Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, stars of the “Bad Boys” franchise, interacted with Messi, leading to this unexpected revelation.

One fan exclaimed, “Did Lionel Messi just speak English?” while another noted, “Leo Messi spoke in English for the first time.”

On the Player Manager podcast, Gressel shared: “Between me and Leo, we’ve had this running joke since the first few days. I asked him if he speaks any English, and he said, ‘no, not really, your Spanish is probably better than my English.’ But then, during a game, he spoke to me in English.”

Gressel continued: “Messi covered his mouth to avoid cameras and instructed me in English, saying, ‘now, we change. You stay, and Jordi (Alba) runs, Jordi goes more in behind.’ Afterward, he joked, ‘English, pretty good, no?’ I was like, ‘yes, very, very good! I understood everything!’”

Messi’s English revelation has provided a new dimension to his already legendary status, showcasing his adaptability and commitment to his current role in the American soccer landscape.

A 3-year-old shouldn’t be seated at the front seat – Nana Yaa Brefo reacts to LilWin’s car accident

Ghanaian actor LilWin has been at the center of a backlash following a tragic accident that claimed the life of a 3-year-old.

Media personality Nana Yaa Brefo offers a contrasting perspective.

She implores Ghanaians not to hastily assign blame solely to LilWin, suggesting that the child’s father also holds some responsibility for the incident.

Brefo highlights the father’s error in allowing his three-year-old child to sit in the front seat, which is against legal regulations.

“A three-year-old, first of all, should not be seated at the front of a vehicle. Why are we quick to judge and say LilWin killed the child? We’re not judges. I think we should slow down a bit and not be quick to judge. The child’s father shouldn’t also be spared from criticism. It’s against the laws of the country to place a three-year-old child in the front seat. It’s wrong,” she stated in a viral video.

Brefo emphasizes the need for a thorough examination of the circumstances by the police before making judgments.

“If an accident happens, the police will be at the scene to determine who caused it, then they proceed from there. We haven’t heard anything from the police yet so we shouldn’t judge,” she stated.

While expressing empathy for the grieving family, Brefo acknowledges the profound pain of losing a child.

She also stresses the seriousness of reckless driving and advocates for justice if LilWin’s speeding indeed contributed to the tragedy.

“I sympathize with the bereaved family. It is painful and as a mother, I can feel their pain. To carry a baby for nine months and lose him is no joke. Overspeeding and senseless driving should not be encouraged. If it is indeed true that the child died as a result of LilWin’s act of overspeeding, then we must seek justice for the child,” she asserted.

Nana Yaa Brefo concludes by extending her heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family, emphasizing the importance of accountability while also recognizing the tragic loss they have endured.

‘Halfwit , idiotic’ – Bridget Otoo slams LilWin over demise of 3-year-old boy

Media personality Bridget Otoo has criticized Ghanaian actor Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as LilWin, for his statements and actions following the tragic accident that resulted in the death of three-year-old Tawiah Ampomah.

Otoo expressed shock at LilWin’s decision to attend his movie premiere at the KNUST auditorium while the accident victims were still in urgent need of help.

She called on the Ghana Police Service to thoroughly investigate the incident and take appropriate action against the actor if found responsible for the boy’s death.

“This is a very foolish statement from a halfwit who is as idiotic as the character they display on screen. This clown even went to the premiere of his movie. @GhPolice do your job and arrest this clown who thinks he’s acting when a life of a boy has been cut short and a family is grieving a loss they would never recover from!” Otoo wrote on X.

Her comments came after LilWin’s management issued a statement denying accusations that they neglected the other accident victims to attend the movie premiere. The statement noted that their attention was divided as one of their team members was also critically injured.

Otoo rejected this explanation, stating that an apology would have been more appropriate than a defense.
