Stonebwoy joins crusade for affordable dialysis in healthcare push

Afro-dancehall sensation Stonebwoy has raised concerns about the escalating expenses of kidney dialysis treatments in hospitals, standing in solidarity with affected patients.

In response to a GHOne news report highlighting patients’ struggles to access dialysis at the Renal Unit of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital due to a sudden price surge, Stonebwoy has voiced his support for those grappling with the issue.

The GHOne report uncovered that patients were taken aback by the abrupt spike in dialysis fees from GH¢380 to GH¢491, leading many to forego essential treatments as they couldn’t afford the revised rate for their bi-weekly sessions.

These patients also expressed fears about the adverse health consequences of missing these vital sessions.

Addressing the situation, Stonebwoy has called on the Ministry of Health to intervene and explore options for subsidizing the costs to ease the burden on individuals battling kidney disease.

Taking to Twitter, he stated, “It never Easy… @mohgovgh. Please look inside this increment and let’s find ways to subsidize the cost of dialysis, if possible.”

The recent surge in dialysis costs has sparked alarm within the Renal Patients Association of Ghana, particularly as it follows their earlier objections to a cost increase earlier in the year.

According to research published in BMC Health Research Services, Ghana, with a population of 30.8 million, is home to approximately 15,400 individuals grappling with kidney failure, underscoring the urgency of addressing these affordability challenges.

I can fill the O2 arena with the right support – King Promise

Following their impressive achievements, with Medikal’s Indigo O2 concert and King Promise‘s successful Asia tour, there’s growing talk of Ghanaian artists setting their sights on the iconic O2 Arena.

Alordia, a well-known UK-based Ghanaian event organizer, shared in an interview with Joy Prime that he sees King Promise as a strong contender to headline at the O2 Arena.

In response, King Promise himself expressed keen interest in performing at this prestigious venue.

During a live interview on TV3, he emphasized the importance of proper planning and support, stating that while he’s eager to perform at the O2, it’s crucial to approach such milestones step by step and involve his core audience in the process.

Reflecting on his past experiences performing as a guest artist at the O2 Arena three times, King Promise described the atmosphere as “grand” and “crazy,” highlighting it as his most significant indoor platform to date, despite having performed at larger outdoor venues.
“It’s highly possible… If we come together and put something together, I think it’s possible.

“Who wouldn’t like to play the O2? I would love to play the O2. But everything for me is step-by-step. You have to move from A before you go to B. You don’t just go because everyone is saying it. You have to build it. Make sure that your core audience is a part of the process. Because for me, it’s really about the journey more than the destination,” he said.

He emphasized the need for a thoughtful approach, focusing on the journey rather than just the destination, indicating that while performing at the O2 Arena is a dream, he wants to ensure it’s done right with the right support and planning in place.

“I would love to play the O2. I’ve performed at the O2 three times already. I know how it feels, but there are so many other things that we’re trying to get done and eventually do the O2 as well.

“It’s grand. It’s crazy. It’s huge. It’s probably the biggest indoor platform I’ve ever performed on. I’ve done festivals which are, like, way bigger, but not indoors,” he said.

Ghanaian media personality Sister Derby has shared her feelings about her ex-partner Medikal and his ex-wife Fella Makafui flaunting their romance on social media.

The Ghanaian socialite, who had previously accused Medikal of cheating with Fella Makafui, has now revealed that while their breakup didn’t deeply affect her, she found it distressing to see them publicly display their relationship, which felt like a deliberate dig at her.

During a conversation with Zionfelix, Sister Derby expressed, “I wasn’t really bothered by their relationship, but I did wish him well. However, it was hurtful because they seemed to be flaunting it in my face and she was also taunting me. Even then, I never retaliated or insulted her. I accepted it.”

She also talked about the hurtful comments from the public that added to the emotional strain of her breakup with Medikal. “The painful part was people assuming I’m desperate for marriage. People made ridiculous comments like ‘go and get married’, ‘no one wants to marry you’. Do they really think no one would want to marry me? It’s absurd,” she added.

Reflecting on her past relationship with Medikal, Sister Derby disclosed, “Throughout our two-year relationship, we never had any major disagreements or fights. It was solely about the Fella issue.”

“I joined him onstage to support my friend, my sweet ex. It was an invitation I happily accepted. We’ve collaborated musically, and our relationship is amicable and business-focused,” she explained.

We’ve resolved our issues outside the courtroom – LilWin on legal battle with Martha Ankomah

Popular actor and musician LilWin revealed in an exclusive interview on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz that he and actress Martha Ankomah have resolved their legal dispute outside of the courtroom.

The conflict between the two arose earlier this year when Martha Ankomah filed a lawsuit against LilWin, alleging defamatory remarks made by the actor.

LilWin had previously accused Martha of holding a negative opinion of Kumawood actors and criticized her role as a GTP Ambassador.

During the interview, LilWin expressed surprise at the legal action taken by Martha Ankomah, citing his own experience in handling criticism without resorting to litigation.

Despite the initial discord, LilWin mentioned that he and Martha have reached an amicable resolution and even hinted at the possibility of collaborating with her in a future film project, alongside acclaimed actors Van Vicker and Majid Michel.

The resolution of this legal matter marks a positive turn in the relationship between LilWin and Martha Ankomah, highlighting the potential for collaboration and mutual understanding in the entertainment industry.
    About the suit

On February 15, 2024, Martha Ankomah, through her lawyers, sued LilWin.

In a copy of the writ of summons obtained by GhanaWeb, the plaintiff, Martha, petitioned the Accra High Court for damages totalling 5 million Ghana cedis due to defamatory statements made by the defendant, LilWin. Additionally, she sought compensatory damages to rectify the harm inflicted upon her reputation.

“A declaration that the words, ‘Who knows you? If not for GTP and senior government officials who signed you on at GTP, who would have signed you? What kind of star are you? Even your own daughter doesn’t know you. I don’t even know why GTP bypassed the likes of McBrown, Mercy Asiedu, and co and made Martha Ankomah their brand ambassador. If you had been a male actor, you would have suffered. When you become an actress, and you become a star, men take care of you; men rent accommodation for you; men buy you houses; men buy cars for you. You would have suffered as a man, but for the fact that you are female.

“‘It is men who look after you. You have become a star that is why men take care of your needs; you don’t use your money on anything’ published of and concerning the plaintiff and contained in paragraphs 8 and 9 of the Statement of Claim are defamatory of the plaintiff. Therefore, the plaintiff is seeking Damages in the sum of 5 million Ghana cedis for the defamatory statements made by the defendant. Compensatory damages for the damage done to the reputation of plaintiff,” parts of the summons read.

I was just acting – LilWin’s initial response to the lawsuit

During an appearance on Daybreak Hitz in late February, LilWin clarified that the controversial video, which caused considerable speculation, was actually a scene from an upcoming movie project he was involved in.

He emphasized that the snippet circulating online had been extracted from its original context.

“The video I did is a movie. I was acting… I was not angry. I had done some makeup,” he claimed.

I didn’t find my name in voter’s register but I voted in 2020 – Richard Ahiagbah

Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah has acknowledged casting a vote in the 2020 general elections even though his name did not appear in the voters’ register.

In an interview with Accra-based Neat FM on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, Ahiagbah revealed that despite possessing a valid voter identification card issued after his 2020 registration, his name was inexplicably absent from the voting list.

“I participated in the 2020 election. The Electoral Commission (EC) officials should be queried as to how I was allowed to vote despite my name’s absence from the register,” Ahiagbah stated in Twi during the interview.

He recounted arriving at his polling station on December 7, 2020, only to discover that his name was not listed in the register.

Despite this, he was permitted to vote after presenting his documents.

Ahiagbah’s disclosure follows accusations from members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding his alleged double registration attempt at a Ketu South electoral registration center on Saturday, May 11, 2024.

A video circulating online depicted a chaotic scene at the center, with NDC agents questioning Ahiagbah’s eligibility to vote in the 2020 election.

Subsequently, evidence emerged suggesting that Ahiagbah indeed voted in 2020, though his name was manually added to the voter roll on the election day.

Responding to these events, the NDC called for Ahiagbah’s immediate arrest, citing double registration as the offense.

Malik Basintale, the NDC’s Deputy National Communication Officer, urged the Ghana Police Service to take action or face a potential citizen’s arrest.

“We will not permit the NPP’s illicit methods to undermine the 7 December election results. We possess the challenge form and call for his prompt arrest. Failing police action, we will take matters into our hands to safeguard the people’s will,” Basintale asserted during an interview with Metro TV’s Michael Addo on News Night.

We’ll not accept any attempt to disparage our hardwork- PUWU to Bawumia over ECG sabotage comment

The Public Utility Workers’ Union (PUWU) under the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Ghana has strongly challenged Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia‘s allegations that ECG Information Technology (IT) personnel deliberately sabotaged the government’s digital revenue collection using ransomware.

PUWU asserts that this narrative aims to discredit ECG and facilitate its privatization.

PUWU’s recent statement rejects Dr. Bawumia’s assertions, highlighting the ongoing dedication of ECG staff, particularly those in ICT, to the company’s digital transformation.

They emphasize the critical role these workers play in enhancing efficiency and service delivery despite challenges, urging stakeholders to acknowledge their contributions to national development rather than undermine them.
“The commitment of ECG staff particularly ICT professionals, to the company’s digitalization journey remains unwavering. The development and deployment of the power app in 2016 exemplify the dedication to innovation and progress.

“ECG staff prioritize initiatives that enhance efficiency and service delivery. The provision of reliable electricity services in Ghana demands immense dedication and sacrifice from ECG staff who works under stressful and hazardous conditions.

“We are fully aware of the several attempts by some key stakeholders to push for the privatization of ECG and the deliberate attempt to give ECG a bad name and hang it.”

“We urge key stakeholders to refrain from disparaging our hardworking members and instead recognize their contributions to national development, in the face of many challenges including the shortage of critical resources for smooth operations,” it said.

Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Bawumia, while speaking at the 14th Annual General Meeting of the African Anti-Corruption Agencies in Commonwealth Africa on Thursday, May 9, 2024, disclosed that some personnel within the IT unit of ECG deliberately introduced ransomware to disrupt the functionality of the system.

According to the Vice President Bawumia, the IT staff at ECG used ransomware to “essentially collapse” payment systems.

“Can you believe that workers within the system sabotaged it? They put ransomware into the whole system. And the system essentially collapsed. We had to send in national security to eventually find that it was some of the staff at the IT department who were culpable,” said Dr. Bawumia.

“So that is now the case. Can you believe that from GHC450 million a month, collections have now gone to over a billion cedis a month.”

“While they were taking her around herbalists and doctors, and pastors and imams, wherever they could go, so she could start bleeding, a woman needed to see her period before she could get pregnant, well, it happened that she was already pregnant, five months in and there was no blood. So, that was strange, right? I had to kick for her to know that a child was there.

LilWin reveals how he was defrauded of GHC3000 by lottery scammer

Ghanaian actor Kwadwo Nkansah, known as LilWin, has shared a troubling experience where he was scammed by individuals posing as lotto agents.

During a Hisense advertisement shoot at the airport, a supposed lotto agent connected him with another person, claiming to be his superior.

LilWin revealed that he was tricked into paying GH¢3,000 for lotto numbers that turned out to be unavailable, with the scammer withdrawing part of the money before he could intervene.

“I was in Accra for a Hisense advert. A man, posing as a commander, contacted my manager, claiming to seek me. On the phone, he directed me to a secluded area and spoke of ‘leaked’ lotto numbers he wanted me to bet on. He provided another contact for the lotto digits, which turned out to be him disguising his voice.

“The ‘two sure’ numbers were priced at GH¢3,000. I hurriedly withdrew the amount and handed it over. Later, he returned, claiming the ‘two sure’ numbers were gone, leaving only ‘three sure’ which would cost GH¢5,000.

“That’s when I realized I had been scammed. I rushed to the MTN office to reclaim the funds, but after banking procedures, I found out the scammer had already taken GH¢2,000…” he claimed,” he detailed during an interview with Adom FM.

This incident sheds light on a growing issue, with other actors like Akwasi Boadi (Akrobeto) and Vivian Jill also falling victim to similar scams.

Medikal, in a series of X posts, revealed his actions, citing loyalty and talent as crucial factors.

The exact reason behind Davido’s unfollowing remains unclear, though fans speculate it’s linked to the fallout from Sarkodie’s track.

Davido’s affiliation with Nigerian rapper Dremo, who released a diss track targeting Sarkodie, added fuel to the fire.

Medikal responded indirectly, emphasizing Ghana’s rap prowess and addressing wealth comparisons with Asake.

The beef’s intricacies continue to unfold, leaving fans eager for more updates in the comment section.

Sammi Awuku reveals when Bawumia will announce running mate

Prominent member of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia‘s campaign team, Sammi Awuku has revealed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer will unveil his running mate to the public in June.

Awuku confirmed that Dr. Bawumia has already chosen his running mate for the upcoming 2024 general elections, dismissing claims of delay and highlighting that they are well within their timeline.

“We are very much within the timeline. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was elected barely six months ago, so we still have time. If you recall, his nomination in 2008 was done somewhere in August. So, for us in the NPP, we are very much within our timelines.

“It can be tomorrow, it can be next week, it can be next month, it can be three days from now. The flagbearer at this point is very clear in his mind who his running mate is going to be, and when he is ready, he is going to announce that. I am certain by June, he will announce his vice,” Sammi Awuku stated.

He reiterated that Dr. Bawumia is focused on campaigning vigorously against his main rival, John Dramani Mahama.

“Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is up against John Mahama. They will be the candidates on the ballot, and we’re familiar with both. Dr. Bawumia’s real contest is with the former president,” Awuku emphasized.

Why I cast Ramsey Nouah for my movie ‘A Country Ghana’ – LilWin reveals

Ghanaian actor Kwadwo Nkansah, better known as LilWin, recently discussed the reasoning behind casting Nollywood star Ramsey Nouah in the lead role for his film “A Country Called Ghana.”

When LilWin first revealed his cast list, which included Nigerian actors Ramsey Nouah, Charles Awurum, and Victor Osuagwu, alongside Ghana’s Paa George, many questioned his choice of Nigerian leads.

LilWin clarified that he aimed to create international interest in the film and secure a Netflix slot, which influenced his decision to include foreign actors.

During an interview on Hitz FM on May 13, 2024, LilWin disclosed that he initially selected a Ghanaian actor for the lead role but later opted for Ramsey Nouah.

“At first, the cast was entirely Ghanaian. However, to boost our chances with Netflix, I suggested including international talent like Awilo Sharp Sharp and Charles Awugah,” he explained.

He elaborated that the original lead actor, a Ghanaian, asked for a higher fee upon learning of the involvement of foreign actors.

“We had everything set, including the costume fittings. But then, he demanded more money after hearing about the Nigerian actors,” LilWin revealed.

After negotiations failed, LilWin decided to replace the actor. Despite initial challenges, they successfully recruited Ramsey Nouah within a tight timeframe.

“We were fortunate to secure Ramsey Nouah’s participation within those 10 days. It was a bit of a scramble, but it worked out in the end,” LilWin concluded.

Giving offertory less than GHC50 is unacceptable – Prophet Kumchacha

Founder of Heaven’s Gate Ministries, has backed evangelist Bishop Obinim‘s stance on rejecting 5 and 10 cedi notes as church offerings.

In a recent interview on Hitz FM, Kumchacha echoed Obinim’s sentiments, emphasizing the need for larger offerings due to rising costs and the perceived disrespect of smaller denominations.

Bishop Obinim made headlines with a viral video instructing his congregation to offer no less than 20 cedis during services, deeming smaller amounts disrespectful to God.

Kumchacha supported this stance, citing increased expenses, especially in transportation to church.

He criticized those who comfortably give minimal amounts despite their apparent affluence, labeling such offerings as disgraceful.

“What Bishop Obinim said is true. Prices of goods and services have increased. Even the transportation to church is more than 5 to 10 cedis. Yet during the offertory, you pay 2 cedis, 5, and 10 cedis?,” said Kumchacha.

Kumchacha suggested a minimum acceptable offering of GH¢50, acknowledging that genuine financial constraints exempt individuals from this expectation.

    “GH¢50 and above is okay.

“It’s not by force. If you really don’t have money, that is okay. There is no problem with that.

“But you can’t go to church, sit in an air-conditioned auditorium with your iPhone 15 and iPhone 17 and when it’s time for offertory, you drop 5 cedis? That is a disgrace! You should better sit at home,” he said.

The debate over appropriate church offerings continues, with Kumchacha and Obinim leading the charge for larger contributions as a sign of reverence and respect in their ministries.

Artisans at Suame Magazine in the Ashanti Region petition Otumfuo, Bawumia over eviction threats

Thousands of artisans at Suame Magazine Zone 13 in the Ashanti Region are on the brink of eviction due to claims by a private developer, ‘The Gosie Group’, asserting ownership of parts of the industrial hub.

The artisans, with decades-long operations in the area, are urgently appealing to Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia for intervention to halt their potential displacement.

Their occupation of the land is safeguarded by Executive Instrument (E.I. 36), necessitating a parliamentary amendment for any eviction, yet a recent court ruling in favor of the Gosie Group has escalated tensions in the enclave.

Having established their businesses since 1989, the artisans fear the jeopardy of their entire livelihoods if forced to vacate.

“I plead with Nana Addo and Bawumia to honour their promises. They pledged to support us, but they have forgotten about the promises they made to us. For us, the illiterate, they don’t regard us anymore. They should provide us with employment opportunities and put a stop to the digitalisation conversation because it does not include us. If Bawumia wants to win the 2024 elections, he must help us, or we vote against him,” said one artisan.

Chairman of Suame Magazine Zone 13, Eric Arhin emphasized the need for authorities, including the Asantehene and VP Bawumia, to prevent what could spiral into a humanitarian and economic crisis.

“We are urging the authorities to intervene so we can continue our work.”

New Patriotic Party (NPP) member, Kwabena Nsenkyire and spare parts dealer, has visited to assuage tensions, pledging governmental efforts toward resolution but stressing the necessity of VP Bawumia’s direct engagement with the affected artisans.

Media personality Sally Mann has lauded media professional MzGee for her conduct during an interview with musician Medikal on the United Showbiz program.

Sally praised MzGee’s poise and defended her line of questioning regarding Medikal’s remarks about his estranged wife Fella Makafui’s event.

During a segment on the Power Entertainment show, Sally emphasized MzGee’s growth in the field and encouraged her to stay focused amidst the controversy.

She commended MzGee’s ability to handle Medikal’s dismissive response with grace and intelligence, highlighting her prowess as a trained journalist.

“MzGee is a powerful woman. She has met the expectations of a trained journalist, and that’s indisputable. You are attractive and smart; don’t let anyone sway you. You’re known for posing insightful questions.

“The inquiry you made of Medikal was among the most impactful, yet not everyone is endowed with the ability to respond wisely. Your composed reaction to Medikal’s disrespect is a testament to your professional evolution. The MzGee I’m familiar with would not have accepted such behaviour,” she remarked.

    Background

In a phone interview following Medikal’s O2 Indigo concert, MzGee inquired: “Last week on this program, Fella was asked about your concert, and she sent her best wishes. I believe you’re aware her new film is premiering this week. What would you like to say to her?”

An annoyed Medikal replied: “Do you realize what you’re asking me? You sound like a marriage counsellor, which isn’t the right approach. You called to discuss the concert. It was a success, and I wish everyone well.

“We had a fantastic show, let’s focus on that. Today, BBC World featured me, and I’m receiving widespread acclaim. Why are you asking me these questions? I doubt you’re still with the first boyfriend you ever dated. Things happen, so let’s celebrate the fact that I’ve represented Ghana internationally instead of dwelling on these questions.”

Before his concert, Medikal tweeted that he and Fella Makafui were no more.

“Fella is no more my wife, she is my baby’s mother, we are co-parenting now and it’s all good,” Medikal tweeted on Saturday, March 30.

The duo got married in 2020. Rumours of their separation circulated in 2023, but neither had publicly addressed them.

FLASHBACK: GHC5, GHC10 no longer accepted as offering, give GHC20 and above or be cursed! – Obinim

The founder of the International God’s Way Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim, has issued a firm directive to his congregation, emphasizing that no offering below 20 cedis will be accepted during church services.

Obinim stressed that all seed or thanksgiving offerings must exceed 20 cedis, warning that any lesser amount would not be entertained within the church premises.

In a widely circulated video addressing his flock, Obinim specifically called out individuals who had placed meager amounts like five or 10 cedis on the altar, urging them to retrieve their money to avoid potential curses.

He emphasized that offerings to God should reflect a higher value, stating, “All those who have come to put money here should come for their money. Anyone who has placed money here should come for it. No more 10 cedis and five cedis. Why? Don’t you respect God? That means you don’t respect God and myself. Come for your money yourself because if I pick the money, it would become a curse upon you.”

Furthermore, Obinim clarified the church’s stance on offerings, stating, “Here, we don’t pay for offerings; we bring seed and pray over it. So, bring at least 20 cedis. From today, no more 10 cedis and 5 cedis. For the prayer seed, the lowest is 20 cedis. If you don’t have 20 cedis, don’t bring 10 cedis or 5 cedis.”

He challenged the notion of offering trivial amounts to express gratitude, questioning, “How can you thank God with 5 cedis? How much do you give to your child? That is why God has left you for many troubles to befall you.”

Overall, Bishop Obinim’s directive underscores the significance of meaningful offerings and the reverence expected in expressing gratitude towards God.

Limited voter registration exercise: Collins Dauda has committed no crime; ignore false allegations – NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has come out in support of Member of Parliament (MP) Collins Dauda from the Asutifi South constituency following his arrest due to an incident at the Kukuom registration center over the weekend.

Contrary to the Ghana Police Service’s statement implicating the MP in disturbances at the registration center, the NDC asserts that Mr. Dauda was not present at the scene during the reported fracas.

In a statement released on Monday and signed by Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer for NDC, the party criticized the police for their handling of the situation and condemned the arrest.

“The NDC condemns in no uncertain terms the unprofessional haste of the Ghana Police Service to publish the so-called arrest of the Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, and create the impression all over the media as though he has committed a crime. For emphasis, Hon. Collins Dauda has committed no crime.

“The allegation by the Police that he was involved in some disturbances at the ongoing voter registration in Kukuom is palpably false and must be treated with the contempt it deserves.”

The NDC emphasized that Collins Dauda was actively monitoring the registration exercise in his constituency and was not near the Kukuom incident, which occurred in the Asunafo South constituency.
“We wish to place on record that, at no point was the Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, Hon. Collins Dauda present at the Kukuom registration center on Saturday, 11th May, 2024.

“Contrary to the claim by the Ghana Police Service, Hon. Collins Dauda was busily monitoring the ongoing registration exercise in his Constituency, Asutifi South and was nowhere near the incident at Kukuom which is located in the Asunafo South constituency.”

According to the NDC, the disturbances were caused by thugs allegedly affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who threatened accredited NDC agents, police officers, and observers, disrupting the registration process.
“These hooded NPP thugs who were led by one “Anointing”, threatened the accredited NDC agent, Police Officers and other observers, insisting that they will not allow the first-time voters to be registered. The attacks persisted from 10:00am until 3:00pm on that fateful day,” the statement added.

I’ve zero interest in engaging in a coup d’état; Ghanaians will show NPP the exit – Barker-Vormawor

Prominent figure in the #FixTheCountry movement, Oliver Mawuse Barker-Vormawor is currently standing trial for treason felony in Ghana.

Despite facing charges, he emphasized that Ghanaians will democratically express their discontent with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) by voting them out, highlighting a commitment to the rule of law and democratic principles.

During a recent court hearing, Barker-Vormawor expressed dissatisfaction with the prolonged trial, which has spanned over two years.
“We’ve come here it’s been two years on trumped-up charges by the regime security but they have always insisted that I wanted to overthrow the republic or to overthrow this government. It is only an indictment of their own records. Their understanding is that they’ve so badly led this country that every mindful citizen [and] every sane individual will want them out of office.

“We are committed to the rule of law and to the democracy we are subscribed to. Ghanaians will show them the way out, I have zero interest in engaging in a coup d’état.

“Those whose business it is to engage in coup d’etat, if they do it, maybe Ghanaians will give them their support but as it stands now, we have always been clear that our advocacy is entitled to engineer for the rest of Ghanaians the justice that our democracy procures,” he told TV3’s Laud Adu-Asare.

The hearing was adjourned to May 20, following a motion filed by his lawyers challenging the constitutionality of the charges against him.

However, the absence of the presiding judge led to a further delay, frustrating the defendant.

In a statement to TV3, Barker-Vormawor reiterated his stance against staging a coup, emphasizing his dedication to the legal process to achieve a fair resolution.

He also hinted at a potential application to have his trial broadcast live, citing public interest in the proceedings similar to high-profile cases such as the Anti-LGBTQ+ bill.
“I think my lawyers have to apply for Live Broadcast in this matter too. If the Supreme Court says the Gay Bill proceedings should be live for our people to consume; then surely the Treason of their democracy concerns them,” he wrote.

The activist’s remarks underscore the ongoing tensions in Ghana’s political landscape and the fervent desire for transparency and accountability within the justice system.

They provide absolutely no support at all. So, they are all watching the industry collapse. Mr. Logic over here does not know the industry, he knows nothing about the industry.”

In response, Mr. Logic challenged LilWin’s knowledge and experience in movie production, questioning his casting and production history.

This exchange stemmed from Mr. Logic’s previous criticism of LilWin’s movie “A Country called Ghana,” where he questioned LilWin’s decision to feature Nigerian actors instead of local talent.

The confrontation took a legal turn when Mr. Logic threatened legal action against LilWin, although intervention from prominent figures delayed the serving of court documents.

The clash highlighted ongoing tensions within the entertainment industry regarding support for local talent and criticism of creative decisions.

Gov’t used DDEP to aggressively pickpocket our savings – Franklin Cudjoe

The Founding President and CEO of IMANI Centre for Policy and Education, Franklin Cudjoe has criticized the government for the economic challenges facing Ghanaians.

Cudjoe specifically blames the government for misleading citizens into participating in the Domestic Debt Exchange Program (DDEP).

The DDEP was presented as a voluntary initiative aimed at protecting domestic bondholders.

It involved restructuring the country’s domestic debt by swapping existing high-coupon bonds for new bonds with lower coupon rates and longer tenures.

However, this led to a loss of value for existing bondholders who exchanged their higher-yielding bonds for lower-yielding ones.

Cudjoe alleges that the government’s promotion of the DDEP was deceptive, and he accused them of exploiting the trust of Ghanaians to serve their own interests at the expense of citizens’ savings.

Limited voter registration exercise: EC is feeding Ghanaians with wrong figures – Dr. Omane Boamah

Director of Elections and Information Technology for Ghana’s National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Omane Boamah has publicly accused the Electoral Commission of Ghana of providing inaccurate figures following the limited voters registration exercise.

Dr. Boamah took to social media to criticize the EC, claiming that they had misled Ghanaians with incorrect data.

Specifically, Dr. Omane Boamah pointed out discrepancies in the figures provided by the EC for Day 2 and Day 3 of the registration exercise.

He argued that the total registered should be 19,267 for Day 2, not 25,287, and 48,616 for Day 3, not 43,417.

Responding to these accusations, the Electoral Commission admitted to errors in the initial data, particularly in the Upper East Region’s figures.

The EC clarified that while 143,014 persons were registered overall, there were mistakes in specific regional tallies.

This disagreement over numbers has led to a dispute between the NDC and the Electoral Commission, with the NDC claiming that the actual figures are lower than what the commission has reported.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission has been striving to register approximately 623,000 first-time voters across the country.

Chairperson Jean Mensa mentioned that they have taken measures like renting generators to deal with power cuts and implementing an “offline” mode for manual registrations in case of technical failures due to network challenges.

Gospel musicians receive inadequate compensation for their performances- Philipa Baafi

Renowned gospel singer Philipa Baafi recently spoke out about the concerning issue of inadequate compensation for gospel musicians following their performances.

In an interview with DJ Toxic on Neat FM’s “My Praise,” Baafi highlighted the financial challenges faced by gospel artists, emphasizing the lack of financial care and recognition despite their dedication to their craft.

Baafi noted that this lack of financial incentives has contributed to a decline in gospel music, with many talented artists leaving the genre.

She shared an incident where an instrumentalist confronted a musician over non-payment after a performance, illustrating the ongoing financial struggles within the industry.

Expressing her dismay at the exploitation of gospel musicians by event organizers who fail to compensate them fairly, Baafi revealed that many musicians have switched to secular genres due to insufficient support.

“Many secular musicians started in the church but left because they were not properly supported,” Philipa Baafi revealed.

She pointed out that despite the significant investment gospel musicians make in their careers, they often receive minimal returns as their work is seen as a service to God.

Baafi also highlighted the financial hardships faced by aging musicians, attributing their public appeals for assistance to the industry’s inadequate funding.

Her call for fair recognition and support for gospel musicians underscores the need for a more equitable compensation system within the gospel music industry.

  • From football to dancing – Champion Rollie tells it all

From football to dancing – Champion Rollie tells it all

Ghanaian dancer, Champion Rolie‘s ascent in the dance world embodies a tale of passion and determination, marked by unexpected turns.

His trajectory, from aspiring footballer to accomplished dancer, unveils a narrative of resilience and dedication.

Starting at Winneba Senior High School with dreams of football glory, Rolie’s journey took an unforeseen twist when his father steered him towards academia rather than sports trials.

“I wanted to be a footballer but it didn’t work,” Champion Rolie said in an interview on The Delay Show, on Saturday. “I was supposed to go for trials somewhere but my father objected to the idea because he wanted me to study. It got to a point where it felt like the football dream was not going to happen.”

Undeterred, he pursued Communication Design with a specialization in Advertising at university, only to find his true calling in dance.

“The passion moved from football to dance. I felt excited when I saw people dance,” the 24-year-old said.
Transitioning from textbooks to dance floors, Rolie’s passion flourished as he honed his skills and found a nurturing community in DWP (Dance With Purpose), a renowned dance collective.

“My father became aware of my dance career when I told him I wanted to join DWP. Mostly, I was free on Saturdays so I told him I’d want to go for a dance class. He agreed but cautioned me to take my books seriously,” said Champion Rolie.

He continued: “My dad is such that every evening, he wants to see me at a particular spot reading my books. Once I flout that, he gets angry. His educational background is not that good, so, he aims at pushing his children to further their education. He’s a photographer, my mother is a trader. I’m the second of three children.”
Navigating the expectations of his father, who prioritized education, Rolie found a delicate balance between his love for dance and academic pursuits.

His father’s pride, initially reserved and stoic, became evident during an outreach event organized by the Champion Rolie Foundation, where his father expressed profound admiration and support.

“During my first outreach in December, my father accompanied me,” Champion Rolie recalled. “He sat there and stared at me for so long. There was a time he said he was proud of me and I was emotional because he is very shy… When he told me he was proud of me, I was like ‘Wow’.

“He is the type that would never compliment you. So, it really meant a lot to me. It was amazing. It was one of the best things I’d heard from him in a long time.”

For Rolie, this moment was not just validation but a testament to his journey of self-discovery and perseverance.

His story serves as an inspiration for aspiring dancers and dreamers alike, proving that with passion and dedication, even the most unexpected paths can lead to greatness.
