6 suspects arrested in connection with South African rapper AKA’s death

Six individuals have been apprehended for their involvement in the tragic killings of renowned South African rapper Kiernan Forbes, popularly known as AKA, and his close confidant, celebrity chef and entrepreneur Tebello “Tibz” Motshoane.

The pair fell victim to gunfire outside a Durban restaurant a year ago, shocking the South African community.

Law enforcement authorities revealed that the hired assassins were specifically commissioned to target AKA, though the motive behind the attack remains undisclosed.

The suspects, all under the age of 36, are set to appear in court on Thursday.

According to Lt Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, the KwaZulu-Natal provincial police commissioner, AKA was closely monitored from the airport, and Tibz was not the intended target.

“It was clear that AKA was monitored from the airport, and Tibz was not the intended target in the murder on Florida Road in Durban,” Lt Gen Mkhwanazi stated in a Tuesday night press briefing. “We know they were paid for this,” he added.

The six accused individuals had distinct roles in the assassination scheme.

This includes two gunmen responsible for firing at the victims, two spotters who trailed AKA from Durban’s airport, an individual who procured the firearms used, and the mastermind behind the plot.

Some of the suspects are also implicated in unrelated murder cases.

Following a weekend raid by Interpol, two suspects were found in a hideout in Eswatini.

They appeared in a magistrate’s court on Tuesday, with plans underway to extradite them to South Africa to face murder charges.

Recovered exhibits from the arrests include four vehicles, firearms linked to the murders, and spent cartridges.

Police Minister Bheki Cele expressed hope that these arrests would bring relief to the South African public, deeply affected by the killings captured on CCTV cameras.

Reflecting on the motive, Minister Cele asserted, “We are all interested to know what the motive was. It is very clear that it was not a case of someone waking up in the morning angry. You can see that in the build-up and coordination.”

AKA, who began his musical journey as a member of the rap collective Entity, ventured into a successful solo career, earning accolades in South Africa and international acclaim.
Even posthumously, his contributions were recognized, with a tribute bestowed upon him at the BET Hip Hop Awards last year.

“Mind your business” – Edward Akwasi Boateng quotes bible verse in response to Diana Asamoah’s advice

Renowned gospel singers Diana Asamoah and Edward Akwasi Boateng engaged in a fiery exchange.

The disagreement stemmed from Asamoah’s advice to Boateng regarding a Toyota car recently gifted to him by Prophet Bernard El Bernard.

Boateng, a well-known gospel singer, had recently been captured on video hawking pen drives at a Kumasi bus terminal, sparking rumours about financial difficulties despite owning 17 cars in the past.

Prophet El Bernard came to his aid, gifting him a new car and pledging to support his children.

During the radio discussion on Okay FM, Asamoah suggested that Boateng use the gifted car for Uber services rather than personal use, considering his public appeals for help.

Host Abeiku Santana called Boateng to respond to Asamoah’s remarks, and he responded by diplomatically referencing a Bible verse, implying that Asamoah’s advice was unwarranted.

The on-air conversation escalated into a trading of light insults before Boateng abruptly ended the call.

The clash between the two gospel singers has stirred up discussion among their fans and the public.

“ Mind your business,I don’t need your advice,” Edward Akwasi Boateng stated.

A vote for Dr. Bawumia is a vote for Akufo-Addo’s third term – Ato Forson

Minority Leader of Parliament, Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson has strongly voiced his discontent with President Akufo-Addo‘s leadership, accusing the administration of failing the Ghanaian populace.

The criticism came in the wake of the President’s recent State of the Nation Address (SONA), where Forson expressed deep concern over the escalating economic hardships facing the nation.

Forson, in his post-SONA remarks, highlighted several key issues contributing to the country’s economic downturn.

The high unemployment rate and the worsening exchange rate of Ghana’s currency were among the pressing concerns he brought to attention.

According to Forson, these challenges underscore the administration’s inability to address crucial economic matters affecting citizens.

Adding weight to his critique, Forson emphasized that President Akufo-Addo, who is serving his last term in office, will not be missed.

He further expressed skepticism about Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia‘s potential bid for the presidency in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

Forson went on record asserting, “Voting for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is like voting for Akufo-Addo’s third term in office.”

The Minority Leader argued that supporting Bawumia’s candidacy would essentially be an endorsement of the current administration’s policies and practices.

This statement suggests Forson’s belief that a Bawumia’s presidency would not bring about the change or improvements the country needs.

As political tensions rise in the lead-up to the 2024 elections, Forson’s remarks have added a new dimension to the discourse surrounding the Akufo-Addo administration’s performance.

The opposition leader’s criticisms and cautionary words about the potential continuation of the current leadership through Bawumia’s candidacy are expected to spark further debate and analysis in the coming weeks.

He emphasised the neglect of royalties in Ghana, comparing it unfavourably to foreign countries where musicians rely on such payments for their well-being.

“The pension for entertainers is their royalties. Musicians in foreign countries don’t beg for help; they rely on royalties. Here, you pay these musicians 50 cedis after so many years of hard work. It’s really bad,” lamented Ashis.

Italian Priest escapes death after almost sipping holy communion wine poisoned with bleach

Parish priest of San Nicola di Pannanconi near Vibo Valentia in southern Italy, Father Felice Palamara, narrowly avoided consuming bleach during a church service.

The latest episode in a series of threats and intimidation against him has prompted a police investigation.

Father Palamara, about to partake in Holy Communion, detected the strong scent of cleaning product in the chalice just in time to avert a potential tragedy.

The police were summoned, and subsequent examination revealed the chalice contained a lethal amount of bleach.

This incident follows a pattern of threats and attacks on Father Palamara, including vandalised cars and numerous death threats.

Detectives are exploring connections between this latest attack and a similar bizarre incident involving another local priest, Father Francesco Pontoriero, who discovered a dead cat in his car.

Both priests have received numerous death threats, prompting authorities to examine potential links and review CCTV footage from the respective churches.

While the motive behind the attacks remains unclear, an investigative source suggests various possibilities, including organised crime, local mafia involvement, or individuals harbouring grudges against the church.

Father Palamara, resilient in the face of adversity, expressed his commitment to love and forgiveness in a note to his parishioners.

In response to the escalating threats, police have assigned round-the-clock protection to Father Palamara, who remains determined to maintain a positive outlook amid the challenges.

Local bishop Attilio Nostro condemned the acts as incompatible with Christian values and calls on the community to resist being swayed by violence and hatred, advocating for a response grounded in love and dialogue.

  • I was unfairly arrested for smoking wee – Kwaw Kese threatens to sue Ghana Police

Hiplife artist Emmanuel Kofi Botwe known popularly as Kwaw Kese has declared his intention to take legal action against the Ghana Police Service, asserting that his 2014 arrest for alleged public marijuana smoking was unjust.

In an exclusive interview on Hitz FM, Kwaw Kese claimed the police lacked evidence for his arrest and treated him unfairly.

Asserting that he possesses evidence implicating foreign nationals openly smoking with police protection, the musician disclosed his plans, alongside his legal representation, to seek a $1 million compensation from the Police Service for his 2015 arrest and conviction.

“There’s nothing to show to prove that I was smoking [in public]. I can show you proof of foreign nationals smoking in public with police protecting them with guns. Ghana Police did not treat me right, and these are some of the things I see and I say that Ghana police service did not treat me right,” Kwaw Kese stated in the interview with host Andy Dosty.

Expressing his belief that the ordeal he faced during his police custody was undeserved, Kwaw Kese emphasised the impact on his music career, which brings joy to his fans.

The Hiplife musician, arrested in November 2014 for cannabis smoking, is determined to seek justice and financial compensation for what he perceives as an unjust experience.

High Court judge William Boampong sentenced Kwaw Kese to a day in jail in April 2015 and ordered him to pay a fine of Gh¢1,200.

The musician was on remand for over a month at the Kumasi Central Prison before being bailed on December 30, 2014.

During the Year of Return in 2020, Kwaw Kese expressed his displeasure when Jamaican musician Popcaan was seen smoking what was suspected to be marijuana publicly while touring Ghana with no subsequent action from the Police.

“Only in Ghana foreigners can f**k up like this. When @kwawkese smoked in public he was arrested. So this means our law set only to control on the citizens but foreigners are free to go. The most painful part is Ghana police. None of them was able to speak the truth out because of the small coins which will be given out … Ooh Ghana,” Kwaw Kese had said at the time.

Hajia4Reall’s friends delete photos as FBI investigates romance scam

Popular radio presenter Fiifi Pratt has raised eyebrows by asserting that some friends of socialite Mona Faiz Montrage known popularly as Hajia4Reall are discreetly removing photos taken with her from their social media accounts.

In a conversation with YouTuber Kwadwo Sheldon on Kingdom FM, Pratt questioned the loyalty of those distancing themselves from Hajia4Reall in the wake of her recent guilty plea in a $2 million romance scam.

“Looks like Hajia4Reall’s friends are deleting pictures they took together from their social media pages. Why are they doing that? What happened to loyalty?” Pratt pondered during the on-air discussion.

Kwadwo Sheldon suggested that individuals might be disassociating from Hajia4Reall to shield themselves from potential repercussions. He emphasized the natural inclination for people to avoid association with failure.

“It’s because no one will like to associate themselves with you so as for your issues to rub off them. If you were friends with Pablo Escobar, would you post him? Nobody will associate themselves with failure; that’s how people are. As for loyalty, nobody is loyal,” Sheldon remarked.

While Fiifi Pratt didn’t name names, social media users have called out Hajia4Reall’s notable friends for maintaining silence since her legal troubles came to light.

Hajia4Reall, also known as Mona Faiz Montrage, recently pleaded guilty to count 5 (Conspiracy to receive stolen money) in a U.S. Magistrate court, exposing her to a maximum of five years imprisonment.
