    P. Diddy hit by lawsuit by former producer; claims of sexual assault

A comprehensive lawsuit filed on Monday, February 26 by music producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones Jr., claiming involvement in Sean “Diddy” Combs’ known popularly as P. Diddy 2023 album, ‘The Love Album: Off the Grid,’ accused the hip-hop mogul of sexual assault, harassment, sex trafficking, and other misconduct.

The lawsuit, filed in a New York federal court by attorney Tyrone Blackburn, implicates various defendants, including Love Album producer Steven Aaron Jordan, Universal Music Group (UMG), Motown Records, and others.

Jones alleges that Combs engaged in inappropriate behavior, including “groping and touching,” attempting to coerce him into sexual acts, and involvement in soliciting sex workers, some of whom were underage.

“Lil Rod” Jones Jr. in New York federal court, the producer accuses Combs of “groping and touching” his anus and trying to groom him into engaging in sexual acts with Combs and other individuals, including Love Album producer Steven Aaron Jordan (a.k.a. Stevie J) and a cousin of Combs’ ex-girlfriend Yung Miami (named as a Jane Doe defendant).”

The complaint also points to an alleged “RICO enterprise” involving Combs, UMG, Motown Records, and others, aiming to recruit sex workers, distribute drugs and guns from Combs’ Miami home.

Furthermore, Jones claims that threats of violence, industry ostracism, and nonpayment for album work were used to control him.

The lawsuit also refers to an incident at Chalice Recording Studio in Hollywood, during a writing and producing camp for The Love Album, where a man was allegedly shot after a confrontation involving Combs and his son.

In response, Combs’ attorney, Shawn Holley, vehemently denies the allegations, calling Jones a liar seeking an undeserved payday.

The lawsuit seeks damages for loss of income, emotional distress, and punitive damages.

This legal action follows a series of accusations against Combs in recent months, including a rape and physical abuse lawsuit from his ex-girlfriend Cassie, which was settled, and other sexual assault allegations from multiple women.

Combs has consistently denied all accusations.

U.S. Air Force man dies after setting himself on fire in protest of civilian deaths in Gaza

An airman, identified as Aaron Bushnell, 25, from San Antonio, passed away on Sunday night after setting himself on fire in protest of civilian deaths in Gaza outside the Israeli Embassy in Washington.

The incident, confirmed by the U.S. Air Force spokeswoman Rose M. Riley, occurred amid ongoing protests against Israel‘s military offensive.

The man setting himself on fire was captured in a livestream on Twitch, where Mr. Bushnell expressed his opposition to the conflict and shouted, “Free Palestine!”

In the video, Mr. Bushnell, dressed in military outfit, declared his refusal to be complicit in what he referred to as genocide.

The act of protest unfolded as he doused himself in a clear liquid from a metal bottle, igniting the flames while proclaiming his support for Palestine.

Law enforcement officers rushed to the scene, attempting to extinguish the fire before he fell to the ground.

The Secret Service was the first to respond, and Mr. Bushnell was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The video, later removed by Twitch for violating platform guidelines, featured a Palestinian flag as its header image.

The Israeli Embassy reported no injuries among its staff, and authorities, including the Secret Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, are collaborating with the Metropolitan Police Department to investigate the incident.

While protests against Israel have become frequent since the military offensive began, instances of violence, such as self-immolation, remain rare.

The Israeli Embassy has been a focal point for demonstrations, but they have generally resulted in arrests rather than violent acts.
This tragic event follows a similar incident in December when a protester self-immolated in front of the Israeli consulate in Atlanta, described by police as “likely an extreme act of political protest.”

Authorities continue to address the escalating situation and protests related to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

I was right after all; Afua Asantewaa can’t sing – Kwasi Aboagye on GWR disqualification

Renowned Ghanaian broadcaster Kwasi Aboagye has revealed an unexpected incident where Fadda Dickson, Managing Director of Despite Media, urged him to apologize for his critical remarks about Afua Asantewaa during a sing-a-thon contest.

During a conversation with entertainment pundit Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo, Aboagye shared his astonishment at his boss’s request, emphasizing the unprecedented nature of the situation and its lasting impact on him.

The incident stems from Aboagye’s previous comments about Asantewaa, which had sparked disapproval from the Ghanaian public who deemed them inappropriate.

Having faced backlash for his initial remarks, Aboagye had previously issued a formal apology to Asantewaa, acknowledging the potential discomfort caused by his comments.

However, with Asantewaa’s subsequent disqualification by Guinness World Records (GWR), Aboagye revisited the challenges he encountered when expressing his opinion.

Recalling the moment Fadda Dickson intervened, Aboagye revealed, “My disappointment was when Fadda Dickson sent me a voice note that I should apologize. If you ask me how far this went, that was it for me. He hasn’t done anything of that sort before. So, out of respect, I had to heed. I was in the U.S. at that time, I checked my phone at dawn and I saw several missed calls from him and the voice note as well.”

Aboagye also alluded to the public insults he endured, asserting, “As for the insults [from the public], I don’t want to go there. Because I am used to it.”

The broadcaster’s revelation adds a new layer to the unfolding saga surrounding Afua Asantewaa’s journey and the controversies it has generated.

What Kwasi Aboagye said about Afua Asantewaa

A few hours before the start of Afua Asantewaa’s singing marathon contest in December 2023, Kwasi Aboagye made headlines with his critical remarks.

Expressing what seemed like frustration, he urged Afua to cease speaking and focus solely on her attempt to break the record.

He also commented on her vocal abilities, suggesting that she should avoid interviews and concentrate on improving her voice.

“You are about to sing for four days, yet, this is how your voice sounds like. Even though your voice isn’t nice, let’s put that aside… You need to stay indoors and rehearse properly for this because Hilda Baci did not do ‘try and error’ with her cooking contest. Stay indoors and rehearse and shut up! Keep quiet, you are talking too much,” he earlier stated.

The controversial comments sparked a backlash with many questioning the appropriateness of such statements.

On December 24, 2023, Asantewaa embarked on a mission to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon. She was the toast of December in GH as she sang for 126 hours and 52 minutes. She initially planned to end on 27th December; however, after consultation with her team, she decided to sing continuously for five days.

    Disqualification

Officials at the Guinness World Records (GWR) have disclosed reasons Afua Asantewaa could not achieve the ‘longest singing marathon by an individual’ mark.

In a response to an email by JoyFM’s Kwame Dadzie probing into the disqualification, the entity stated that Afua Asantewaa’s sing-a-thon attempt was unsuccessful because the guidelines around rest break timings were not met.

In the statement by the PR Executive for the Guinness World Records, Alina Polianskaya, sighted it was established that these are standard rules that couldn’t have been overlooked.

“Afua Asantewaa’s sing-a-thon attempt was not successful due to guidelines around rest break timings not being met. These rules are standard across all of our ‘longest marathon’ records. We’ve seen how inspirational it has been for her fans…We wish Afua the best of luck with any future record attempts,” the statement contained.

Afua Asantewaa is a liar; brands must disassociate from her – Arnold Asamoah Baidoo on GWR disqualification

Ghanaian entertainment expert, Arnold Baidoo Asamoah, renowned for his contributions at Despite Media, has initiated a one-man crusade, accusing Afua Asantewaa of dishonesty regarding her recent sing-a-thon disqualification.

In an exclusive segment on Peace FM’s Entertainment Review with Kwesi Aboagye, Arnold Asamoah claimed that Asantewaa deliberately concealed the outcome of her attempt.

Arnold argued that corporate entities had chosen to collaborate with Asantewaa under the impression that she was a potential winner.

Fearing repercussions on her professional relationships, Asantewaa allegedly chose to withhold the disqualification news, a decision Arnold believes could tarnish her reputation as a trustworthy individual, making it challenging for businesses to associate with her.

“It would have been more prudent for her to be transparent about the situation, as no brand wishes to be associated with dishonesty. Contrary to the claim of receiving the news while preparing for a show, the decision to conceal the truth may have significant consequences,” remarked Arnold Asamoah during the program.

Officials at the Guinness World Records disclosed why Afua Asantewaa was unsuccessful with her singathon attempt.

“Afua Asantewaa’s singathon attempt was not successful due to guidelines around rest break timings not being met. These rules are standard across all of our ‘longest marathon’ records,” PR Executive for the Guinness World Records, Alina Polianskaya replied to a mail by Joy FM.

In response to the announcement of her disqualification, Afua wrote on social media that she received the news of the outcome of her sing-a-thon attempt just moments before hosting a gala dinner and the launch of the Lebanese Scholarship Alumni Network, attended by President Nana Akufo-Addo.

She stated, “I would announce my next line of action in a few days. Thank you all for your love and support.”

In the meantime, she has been appointed Tourism Ambassador by the Ghana Tourism Authority.

Land dispute affecting business activities in Kumasi Acheamfuor market – Traders lament

Traders at the Acheamfuor market in Kumasi are grappling with the repercussions of escalating tensions among families disputing the ownership of the land where the market operates.

The simmering conflict has led to a sluggish pace of trading activities, with traders expressing concern over the impact on their businesses.

The dispute over the true ownership of the land and properties has deterred potential customers from patronising the market, resulting in a significant decline in business for the vendors.

The overall maintenance of the market has also been compromised, as all washrooms remain locked, contributing to deteriorating sanitary conditions and filth within the market premises.

The market, which serves as a hub for drivers transporting passengers to various regions across the country, is witnessing a decline in both foot traffic and overall business.

Station master Jacob Bafo lamented the adverse effects on their operations, asserting that passengers are now hesitant to visit the market due to the ongoing tensions.

Gyamfi Gideon, the station chairman, echoed these concerns, highlighting the significant slowdown in business activities since the onset of the tension.

“Ever since this tension started, our businesses have been very slow. There has been a reduction in the number of passengers who come here to board our buses. The market is also battling with filth; things are just not moving well since this tension started.”

He emphasised the market’s struggle with sanitation issues, indicating that the situation has created an unfavourable environment for both traders and customers.

Driver Stephen Amo Boahen added his voice to the plea for intervention, emphasising the closure of washrooms as a major challenge for those operating in the market.

“Our washrooms here are all locked due to the incident, and this is really affecting those of us who operate here. Now, visiting the washroom is a big challenge. We are calling on relevant authorities to intervene.”

The affected parties are calling on relevant authorities to intervene promptly and resolve the land ownership dispute to restore normalcy to the Acheamfuor market.

Traders also lamented highlighting “If not for the disturbances here, this bus would have been full by now, but because of the disturbances, passengers are even scared to come here and board the bus, so our businesses have been badly affected. We pray that all these will end so that we can go about our activities.”

The Hohoe Magistrate’s Court has released Korkuvi Atiga, a farmer from Fodome Lormnava, on a GHC10,000 bail with one surety after he pleaded not guilty to charges related to his domestic animals straying into neighbors’ farms and causing crop damage.

The accused is set to reappear in court on March 14, 2024.

According to Mr. Frank Azila-Gbettor, the prosecutor, Atiga, who engaged in the rearing of sheep and goats, received several complaints from the community about his animals damaging crops.

14 year-old-boy identified with Wilson’s disease; first case detected in Ghana

A 14-year-old boy in Ghana identified as Mark Worwonyo is grappling with a life-threatening condition as doctors uncover an unprecedented case of Wilson’s disease, a rare genetic disorder causing excess copper retention.

The teenager featured in the video is recognized as being at the primary school level and is said to have experienced stigmatization due to a rare condition that hinders his ability to carry out regular school activities, including completing homework and interacting with friends.

Mark’s parents, with his father working as a mason struggling to secure consistent jobs and his mother’s undisclosed occupation, have expressed frustration.

Their attempts to seek help from professionals have been disheartening, as some individuals took advantage of their financial constraints and failed to provide the promised assistance.

Regrettably, he has been unjustly branded as the ‘special child.’

His health crisis has marked the first known instance of this condition in the country, shedding light on both the family’s financial struggles and the unpreparedness of the healthcare system to handle such rare diseases.

The adolescent’s diagnosis has led to extensive damage to vital organs, including the brain, eyes, and kidneys.

The severity of the situation has prompted a closer look at the healthcare challenges faced by the family.

According to the report which aims at bringing attention to the unique challenges posed by rare medical conditions, emphasizing the need for increased awareness, support, and preparedness within the healthcare system.

The plight of this young patient serves as a touching reminder of the importance of addressing gaps in healthcare infrastructure to ensure timely and effective responses to rare diseases.

According to Mayo Clinic, Wilson disease is a hereditary illness that results in the organs accumulating excessive amounts of copper.

Wilson’s disease causes copper to accumulate possibly to a potentially fatal degree instead of being appropriately removed.

Usually, between the ages of 12 and 23, symptoms start to appear.

But younger and older people can be affected too.

Copper plays a key role in building healthy nerves, bones, collagen, and the skin pigment melanin.

You usually take in copper from the food you eat.

Avatar: The Last Airbender, “Beautifully crafted disappointment,” critics react to movie

Netflix‘s recently released live-action adaptation of the beloved animated series, Avatar: The Last Airbender, has generated a range of critical opinions.

The eight-part series, a remake of the original by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, who initially joined but later left the project, is receiving both praise and criticism.

Variety describes the 2024 Albert Kim remake as a “beautifully crafted disappointment,” with critic Aramide Tinubu acknowledging its improvement over the 2010 film but suggesting it falls short of the original masterpiece.

Tinubu notes the series’ visual authenticity and diverse cast but criticizes the majority of performances for lacking the emotional depth required for a narrative centered on themes of genocide, war, and totalitarianism.

While The Guardian’s Jack Seale awards the series four stars, praising its stunning landscapes and talented young cast, Empire’s Kambole Campbell gives it two stars, noting a departure from the original’s charm in favor of a more self-serious tone.

Campbell described the show as a “rather drab and thinly sketched spin on well-worn fantastical tales.”

The Telegraph’s Anita Singh offers a middle-ground review, awarding the series three out of five stars for being fast-paced, action-packed, and entertaining for children.

Singh acknowledged the lack of subtlety and broad characterizations but commends the show’s overall appeal.

However, Vulture’s Jackson McHenry delivers a harsh critique, pointing out numerous flaws, including wooden acting, lackluster writing, garish costumes, and a dull premiere that feels more like a tedious assignment than an exciting adventure.

In essence, Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender is provoking a diverse range of responses, leaving fans and critics divided on its success in capturing the essence of the original animated series.

However, Edward Duncan, the Secretary of the Ghana Toll Workers Association, refuted these claims in an interview with Selorm Adonoo on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Friday.

Duncan clarified that the government is presently in the process of hiring some former toll workers, revealing that interviews were conducted for a number of them on Thursday, February 22, and Friday, February 23.

Contrary to the Agency’s statement, Duncan asserted, “It is not true that those 99 have been engaged. What is true is that they have gone for interviews. As to whether they will be employed or not is another matter. They have not been given any form of employment letter.”

He emphasized that the interview process had commenced on Thursday and continued into Friday, challenging the CEO’s statement that 99 individuals had already been employed.

According to Duncan, “They have started the process. They have gone for interviews for them to be employed.”

  • Tyler Perry puts a hold on $800 film studio over AI fears

Renowned US filmmaker and television mogul Tyler Perry has decided to put an $800 million expansion of his studio on hold, citing growing apprehensions about the impact of new AI technology.

Perry, 54, originally planned to add 12 sound stages to his Atlanta complex but has been deterred by the recent release of OpenAI’s video generator, Sora.

Expressing his concerns in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Perry believes that the capabilities demonstrated by Sora are “shocking” and foresees the potential loss of “a lot of jobs” in the film industry due to artificial intelligence.

“All of that [work] is currently and indefinitely on hold because of Sora and what I’m seeing.”

He emphasised that the entire expansion project is now indefinitely paused because of what he witnessed with Sora.

“I had gotten word over the last year or so that this was coming, but I had no idea until I saw recently the demonstrations of what it’s able to do. It’s shocking to me.”

“The tool, which has been made by the company behind ChatGPT, was launched in a limited way earlier this month and is not yet open to public consumption.

“OpenAI’s CEO took requests from followers on X, formerly known as Twitter, and produced videos with their suggestions to show its capabilities.

“With access to a few resources and a couple of text prompts, it was able to produce lifelike footage up to one minute long.”

The video generator, developed by the creators of ChatGPT, was unveiled in a limited manner earlier this month and is not yet available to the public.

Perry was particularly alarmed by Sora’s ability, showcased through user-requested videos, to produce lifelike footage up to one minute long with just a few resources and text prompts.

Perry expressed worry that AI technology, exemplified by Sora, could make traditional aspects of filmmaking, such as travelling to locations and constructing sets, obsolete.

He remarked, “I can sit in an office and do this with a computer, which is shocking to me.”

Acknowledging his recent use of AI on set to age himself for a scene, Perry admitted that the same technology raising efficiency could lead to job losses for actors, editors, sound specialists, and transporters.

His concerns echo the broader anxieties within the industry, as witnessed during the 2023 Hollywood strikes where writers and actors alike expressed fears of being replaced by AI.

While Perry recognized the positive aspects of AI, such as the time saved on makeup effects, he called for unity within the industry to address the rapid changes.

He urged the entire entertainment sector to come together to protect livelihoods, emphasising the need for collective efforts to navigate the evolving landscape of the film industry.

“It can’t be one union fighting every contract every two or three years. I think that it has to be everybody, all involved in how do we protect the future of our industry because it is changing rapidly, right before our eyes,” he said.

Upcoming artists in the creative space are arrogant; they need to learn – Nana Poku Ashis

Renowned artist manager Nana Poku Ashis highlighted the challenges faced by many young artists in their careers, attributing their struggles to a lack of humility and reluctance to seek guidance from industry veterans.

Ashis emphasized the importance of humility, asserting that despite attempts to offer guidance, many emerging artists remain closed off.

He stressed the significance of education and the need for younger talents to leverage the knowledge and experience of established figures in the industry.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz with Andy Dosty, he explained that “even when you try to reach out to them, plenty of them do not open up.”

“Education is very important. We have been here for a very long time, so we understand how the system plays and sometimes we want to teach the young ones so that they can also elevate their brands but that’s not usually the case. Therefore, you keep the knowledge to yourself,” he said.

Additionally, the artist manager urged aspiring musicians to adopt a business-minded approach, noting that financial success in the industry hinges on more than just artistic talent.

“Most of the Gen Z’s do not have relationships with top brands, top managers, and people at the top. And how do you get those calls? So I will urge the Gen Zs – the new generations to build brands that are affiliated with bigger brands. Humble yourself and you will enter certain places. That’s how those calls will come to you.” he said.

Ashis also underscored the necessity of networking and fostering relationships with influential figures to propel their careers forward.

Addressing the issue of Gen Z artists lacking connections with top brands and industry leaders, Ashis advised them to build affiliations with established brands and cultivate humility to gain access to crucial opportunities.

Commending musician Fameye as a positive example, Ashis expressed confidence in the ‘Praise’ hitmaker’s potential for greatness.

He lauded Fameye’s willingness to seek input and collaborate on his work, comparing him to legendary artist Amakye Dede and predicting a promising future if he continues on his current path.

“This boy will be there and within a few minutes, he will complete a song on top of his head. And then he will ask you, ‘Father, how do you see this line? Should I add or take out anything?’ And that’s beautiful. That’s somebody who is going places.

“I have told him that he is the next Amakye Dede. If he looks carefully at his brand, pays attention to himself, he will go far,” he added.

This is why GWR disqualified Afua Asantewaa for her Sing-A-Thon

Guinness World Records (GWR) recently clarified the grounds for disqualifying entrepreneur,  Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum in her individual Sing-A-Thon attempt in December 2023, citing non-compliance with rest break timings as the key factor.

GWR emphasised that this rule is standard for all their longest marathon records.

The explanation came in response to an inquiry from Ghana Business News, which sought details on the verdict and communication with Aduonum.

GWR’s spokesperson expressed regret, asserting, “Unfortunately, Afua’s Guinness World Records attempt for the Longest Singing Marathon was not successful, but we hope that she will make another attempt soon.”

Despite completing an impressive 126 hours and 52 minutes on December 29, 2023, in an effort to surpass the current record held by Sunil Waghmare, Afua Asantewaa faced disqualification.

In a Facebook post following the official announcement, she shared her plans for the future amid preparations for a gala dinner with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Despite the setback, Afua’s accomplishment resonated with many, sparking a call for GWR to reconsider and validate her marathon as deserving of recognition.

In the eyes of her supporters, Afua remains a winner who captured hearts and showcased her determination, regardless of official validation.
