I have no skeleton in my closet; I’m a free spirited individual – Stonebwoy

Ghanaian dancehall/reggae sensation Livingstone Etse Satekla known popularly as Stonebwoy takes a candid dive into his personal and professional realms as he marks his birthday on March 5, 2024.

In an exclusive chat with TV3, the artist behind chart-toppers like “Putuu,” “Activate,” and “Nominate” reveals his humorous and free-spirited nature, aiming to spread laughter wherever he goes.

Describing his family as a lively ensemble of “movie stars,” Stonebwoy playfully suggested a potential reality show capturing the entertaining dynamics within his household.

“They’re like a bunch of movie stars in one house. I think I should do a reality show about what happens in my house,” he quipped.

Delving into the delicate balance between his personal and professional life, Stonebwoy shares his goofy side, known only to those closest to him.

“I’m humorous. A free spirit. When you’re close to me, you laugh a lot. It’s one of the things that I think is only those who are very close to me that know how I can be goofy just to make people laugh every time,” he disclosed.

Emphasising transparency, Stonebwoy asserts that he selectively showcases aspects of his life to the public, maintaining a distinction between personal and public affairs.

“I think the career would be what people see on the outside, and that is what I choose to show them. And internally, things that govern my own life as a person in private,” he explained. “Because everybody has a private and public life. Balancing them has been good so far. That’s how we see what we see. There are no skeletons in the cupboard.”

As one of Ghana and Africa’s most successful musicians, Stonebwoy’s accolades include the Best International Act: Africa at the 2015 BET Awards and the Artist of the Year at the 2015 Ghana Music Awards.

Beyond his musical prowess, he serves as the CEO of Burniton Music Group and holds brand ambassadorships with various companies.

  • Shut up; you are the reason “beggar” Ghana can’t easily pass anti-LGBTQ+ bill – Lydia Forson slams politicians

Renowned Ghanaian actress Lydia Forson has lashed out at politicians, attributing Ghana’s struggle to pass an anti-LGBTQ+ bill to their dependence on foreign aid.

Forson contends that the nation’s inability to assert its sovereignty hampers the government’s capacity to make decisive choices on the matter.

Speaking out on social media, Forson emphasised the urgency for politicians to redirect their focus towards building a self-sufficient country.

She underscored the impact of Ghana’s reliance on foreign aid, asserting that it leaves politicians susceptible to external influence.

“This is the wake-up call to ALL your politicians to focus on building a self-sufficient country! Until you’re able to stop depending so much on foreign aid and begging all the time; the West will continue to dictate how you dance. So maybe SHUT UP and get to work!” Forson said in a passionate post.

The actress’s comments come amid ongoing debates and discussions within Ghanaian political circles about the proposed anti-LGBTQ+ bill.

The bill has faced significant opposition both domestically and internationally, with critics arguing that it infringes upon human rights and promotes discrimination.

Forson’s words resonate with those who advocate for a more independent and sovereign Ghana, free from external pressures.

As the country grapples with socio-political challenges, her call for politicians to focus on internal development rather than relying on foreign aid has sparked a renewed conversation on the nation’s path towards self-sufficiency.

It remains to be seen how Forson’s outspoken stance will influence the political landscape and whether it will prompt a shift in priorities among Ghanaian leaders.

Arnold, a guest on D-Black’s Uncut show alongside industry veterans Hammer and Dennis Tewiah of Akwaaba UK, caught many off guard with his unexpected praise for Shatta Wale.

Despite their history of clashes on social media and various platforms, Arnold acknowledged Shatta Wale’s enduring relevance in the industry, describing him as not only a maverick but also a talented artist.

  • Stop misinterpreting the Bible – Ola Michaels to Diana Asamoah

Stop misinterpreting the Bible – Ola Michaels to Diana Asamoah

Gospel musician Diana Asamoah has stirred up a debate by invoking a biblical reference to defend her advice to fellow artist Edward Akwasi Boateng on the use of a gifted vehicle.

During a discussion on UTV, Asamoah clarified that her suggestion was not rooted in malice, emphasizing that it was Boateng’s choice whether to heed her counsel or not.

Quoting Acts 3:1-11, Asamoah pointed out that, according to the Bible, Peter and John did not provide financial support to a lame man they encountered, as they themselves lacked funds.

She asserted that, similarly, she couldn’t be compelled to financially support Boateng, prompting reactions from entertainment pundits.

Veteran entertainment pundit Ola Michael challenged Asamoah’s interpretation, contending that her perspective on the Bible quotation was flawed.

“You have quoted wrongly. It’s not about what the quotation says but your interpretation. Because the man was lame, he was being placed there to beg for money.

“But his greatest wish was to be able to walk. So when Peter and John saw him, they went in for what was more important to him, which was for him to be able to walk than money. In your explanation, you were insinuating that they didn’t have money but that was not the case,” Ola Michael stated in an interview on UTV.

He argued that the emphasis in the biblical story was on addressing the man’s desire to walk, not a lack of funds.

Asamoah has faced criticism for publicly advising Boateng to use the gifted vehicle for ride-hailing services.

Various figures in the creative arts industry, including Halifax, have condemned Asamoah, urging her to refrain from publicly disgracing her fellow gospel musician if she cannot offer support.
Edward Akwasi Boateng, who has faced financial hardships in recent years, lost his once-prosperous assets, including seventeen cars, due to difficulties stemming from a troubled marriage.

Prophet Bernard El Bernard, head pastor of Spirit Life Revival Ministry, stepped in to help by gifting Boateng a car, offering a full scholarship for his children’s university education, and committing to a monthly allowance to alleviate his ongoing financial challenges.

Actress Vicky Zugah revealed a mysterious dream she had about the New Force Movement founder.

While videos of Cheddar’s tour drew widespread admiration, Zugah’s comment section disclosure adds an unexpected twist, prompting discussions about its potential significance.

In the midst of Cheddar’s impactful stage presence and enthusiastic reception during the Nima event, Vicky Zugah’s comment alludes to a dream where the independent presidential aspirant is stripped of his title.

The cryptic revelation has sparked varied reactions, with netizens engaging in speculation and analysis.

Cheddar, undeterred by the unexpected dream revelation, continues to emphasise his commitment to addressing untapped potential, particularly in the Nima community.

He encouraged active participation from the residents, especially the youth, highlighting the unconventional choice of Nima as the starting point for his tour.

However, amidst the positive momentum, political strategist William Owusu Ansah raises concerns about potential disqualification schemes targeting Cheddar and Alan Kyerematen, leader of the Movement for Change.

  • NPP is yet to receive information from EC regarding the 2024 elections – Evans Nimako

NPP is yet to receive information from EC regarding the 2024 elections – Evans Nimako

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is yet to receive official communication from the Electoral Commission (EC) regarding the schedule for this year’s general elections, a sentiment shared earlier by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The NPP’s Director of Research and Elections, Evans Nimako, clarified in an interview that the party had only received an invitation for an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting, scheduled for Thursday, March 7, 2024.

This comes amidst reports of the Electoral Commission’s plans for key election activities, including nominations, balloting, and result declaration, with the NPP emphasising the absence of official communication on the broader election program.

“The NPP has not received any official communication from the EC concerning the programme of activities for the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.”

“All that we have gotten is a notice of invitation for an IPAC meeting to be held on Thursday 7th of this month at the EC Headquarters so I will also confirm that we have not received any such communication from the EC,” Evans Nimako stated in an Eyewitness news interview on Citi News.

The statement echoes the sentiments previously expressed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which criticised the commission for releasing the calendar to the public.

Reports indicate that the Electoral Commission plans to accept nominations for this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections from September 9 to 13, marking a significant countdown to the peak of the political season.

This will be followed by the balloting for positions on the presidential ballot paper on September 23, 2024, and the parliamentary balloting on September 24, 2024.

Furthermore, the Electoral Commission expects to declare the results of the 2024 presidential polls within three days of the voting exercise, provided everything proceeds as planned.

As part of its activities for the 2024 general election, the Electoral Commission will conduct a voters’ registration exercise from May 7 to May 27, 2024, and will also undertake a nationwide exercise to replace missing voter ID cards starting from May 30, 2024.

The registration exercise will be preceded by a 56-day public education campaign, which will run from April 1 to May 26, 2024.

  • Nigerian Disney show Iwájú receives poor review from critics

Nigerian Disney show Iwájú receives poor review from critics

Disney’s latest venture, the animated series Iwájú on Disney+, is making waves for its “top-notch” animation, “stellar voice acting,” and a “delightful” portrayal of futuristic Nigeria, according to critics.

The collaboration with Nigerian production company Kugali marks a historic milestone for Disney+, showcasing a commitment to boosting African representation in animation.

Centred around Tola, a young girl navigating a sci-fi version of Lagos, Iwájú introduces viewers to a world where luxury cars fly over bustling markets, supervillains wield bionic arms, and AI pets are a must-have.

Despite praise for its inventiveness, some critics note flaws, with concerns about the show’s pacing and character development.

The Guardian applauds Iwájú as a “delightful coming-of-age adventure” but acknowledges its “frantically paced” narrative.

Similarly, Screengrab criticises pacing and character development but acknowledges the distraction provided by the “top-notch animation.”

Social media users with access to the show call it an “instant classic” and “authentic.”

While the series receives positive global reviews, some Nigerians express frustration as Disney+ is not available in their country.

Disney responds by announcing that Nigerians with DSTV subscriptions can watch Iwájú on the Disney Channel starting in late April and early May.

Australian news outlet ABC praises Iwájú for being “uniquely African” yet universally appealing, while Mashable describes the show as “gorgeous” with covetable gadgets.

Nigeria’s Culture Minister hails the series as a monumental moment, asserting, “This is huge for Nigeria because at last, we now have our own stories being told from our own perspective.”

Kugali co-founder Hamid Ibrahim, who once vowed to compete with Disney in the African market, reflects on their collaboration in a documentary.

He hopes Iwájú will inspire the next generation of artists and bring about meaningful change.

The Guardian’s review notes that Iwájú taps into Afrofuturism, presenting a “solid sense of Nigerian identity.”

However, it assures viewers outside Nigeria that universal themes like self-identity, family, and independence make the series relatable regardless of cultural background.

“I feel incredibly honored and privileged” – Burna Boy accepts Boston City honor

Nigerian sensation Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu MFR, known professionally as Burna Boy extends gratitude to the City Council of Boston, Massachusetts, for the remarkable recognition bestowed upon him.

The city officially declared March 2nd as “Burna Boy Day” in acknowledgment and celebration of the musician’s impactful contributions.

A formal statement released by the Boston City Council, endorsed by Councillor Ruthzee Louijeune, highlighted Burna Boy’s commendable efforts in using his performances and advocacy to amplify the voices of marginalised communities, advocating for their recognition and rights.

Burna Boy, expressing his dedication to uniting the world through music, emphasised the commonality that transcends differences among people globally.

In a social media post on X, he shared his immense honour, accompanied by a photo showcasing him proudly holding the Boston City Council’s declaration while on stage.

“I feel incredibly honoured and privileged! Thank you, Boston! The goal has always been the same, to bring the world together. We are all so different but all the same! 2nd of March a.k.a Burna Boy Day,” the post exclaimed.

The Boston City Council, in a press release last week, lauded Burna Boy for embracing his Nigerian and African identity, fusing it with contemporary sounds to create music that resonates globally.

This, they noted, challenges stereotypes about African artistry and opens doors for aspiring artists from similar backgrounds.

“Boston’s commitment to recognizing and celebrating culture and diversity is evident in the range of cultural events, festivals, and community initiatives that showcase the city’s multicultural landscape; and Burna Boy’s legacy serves as a reminder of possibility, reminding us to continue amplifying voices that have long been silenced or overlooked.”

The official statement concludes by designating March 2, 2024, as Burna Boy Day in the City of Boston, solidifying the musician’s lasting impact on the city’s cultural landscape.

  • Stop complaining, Free SHS has not been that bad – Deputy Coordinator

Stop complaining, Free SHS has not been that bad – Deputy Coordinator

The Deputy Coordinator at the Free Senior High School (SHS) Secretariat, Nana Afrah Sika Mensah, urged the nation to shift its attention towards the triumphs of the policy rather than its obstacles.

While acknowledging existing challenges such as food shortages in certain schools, she contends that the positive impact of the Free SHS policy far outweighs its drawbacks.

In an exclusive interview with Nii Larte Lartey on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Mensah stressed the policy’s significant benefits for children from underprivileged backgrounds.

She emphasised the need to prioritise the positive aspects of the initiative over the negative aspects, asserting that the Free SHS policy has been a lifeline for those in less privileged communities.

Mensah emphasised, “Free SHS has really helped us as a country, and then maybe had it not been for Free SHS, people like my siblings out there wouldn’t get access to quality education. So even though we have challenges, we should rather make the positives outweigh the challenges we are facing as a secretariat.”

She continued, “We’ve given people access to education. People from less endowed communities or those who are less privileged in the communities, had it not been for Free SHS, they would not get the opportunities to foot bills for their wards.”

The Free Senior High School (Free SHS) education policy in Ghana was a government initiative introduced in the 2017 September Presidential administration of Nana Akufo-Addo.

The policy’s origination began as part of the President’s presidential campaign during Ghana’s 2016 election period, and has become an essential part of Ghana’s educational system.

The policy’s core themes of access, equity and equality fulfil the United Nations modified Sustainable Development Goals, where member countries unite those themes in their educational systems to certify adequate learning experiences for students.

Respective politicians and social workers have been allocated the duty to ensure the policy’s efficiency, productivity and further development.

These leaders span from varying governmental departments including Ghana’s Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning and Ghana Education Service and Ghana’s Ministry of Education.

Ghanaian woman to break GWR record for longest painting marathon

Ghana is making headlines not just for its prowess in marathons but also for a different kind of endurance challenge.

Construction Project Manager and painter Sharon Dede Padi popularly known as Padiki, has set her sights on breaking the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest painting marathon.

Marathons have become a normal part of life in various African countries, with Ghana standing out as a hub of activity.

However, Padiki is stepping into uncharted territory with her ambitious attempt to break the record with a staggering 160 hours of continuous painting.

In an interview with Doreen Avio on Daybreak Hitz, Padiki shared the journey that led her to this remarkable endeavour.

She revealed that she initially attempted to apply for the marathon a year ago but was told she couldn’t use paintings she had already completed.

Undeterred, she revisited the idea in December after learning that the existing record was set at 100 hours.

Padiki disclosed, “It wasn’t until this December when we realised that someone had broken the record within a hundred hours, did I also tell my daughter to apply for me. It was just a joke.”

The marathon, according to Padiki, is not just about breaking records but aims to collaborate with various ministries to unearth hidden talents across the country.

She expressed her intention to work with the Ministry of Education, Tourism, Sports, and Gender to organise workshops and painting sessions in villages.

“I will be collaborating with the Ministry of Education, Tourism, Sports, and Gender. Through workshops and painting sessions, we will visit the villages, and you will be surprised by the number of artists there that we haven’t heard of,” she explained.

Highlighting the broader purpose behind her endeavour, Padiki emphasised the importance of providing platforms for talented individuals, especially in schools and institutions.

She appealed to Ghanaians to support her in this journey, asserting, “I need a lot of support from Ghanaians. They should not get tired now! Mine is yet to come, so please don’t get tired. My attempt is a means of teaching as well as a profession, and I need all the support I can get.”

As Padiki prepares for her marathon, the nation watches with anticipation, ready to rally behind her and witness a new chapter in Ghana’s growing reputation for extraordinary achievements.

“You either do business with us or walk” – Sam George tells West over anti LGBTQ+ bill

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram constituency and a vocal advocate for Ghana’s anti-LGBTQ+ billSam George delivered a robust defence of the nation’s stance against international pressure.

Despite growing concerns and threats of financial repercussions from Western countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom, George remains unyielding in Ghana’s commitment to passing the anti-LGBTQ+ legislation.

In the exclusive interview, he asserted that Ghana takes pride in upholding its cultural heritage and will not succumb to external influences dictating the country’s legislative decisions.

“Ghana is not the 51st State of the United States to tell the American people to either do business on our terms or you can walk,” George declared emphatically.

He went on to stress that American businesses operating in Ghana are there for profit, not because of LGBTQ+ issues.

According to George, protecting cultural values and a $100 billion profit are paramount, and any businesses not aligned with these principles are encouraged to leave.

“ Ghana is not the 51st State of the United States to tell the American people to either do business on our terms or you can walk. American businesses that operates in Ghana are not in Ghana because of LGBTQ, they are in Ghana because they make a profit and you think because we are protecting our cultural values and we are protecting our 100 billion dollars in profit, you better get up and go,” Sam Gerge stated.

This defiant stance comes amidst a global debate on LGBTQ+ rights and the influence of foreign nations on the domestic policies of sovereign countries.

Ghana’s commitment to upholding its cultural values in the face of international pressure sets the stage for a continued discourse on the intersection of human rights, cultural identity, and economic interests.

On February 28, 2024, Parliament approved a bill criminalizing LGBTQ activities and prohibiting their promotion, advocacy, and funding.

Under the legislation, individuals convicted of such acts could be sentenced to 6 months to 3 years in prison, while those promoting or sponsoring such activities could face 3 to 5 years behind bars.

The bill’s passage has sparked criticism from various stakeholders, including Virginia Evelyn Palmer, the Ambassador of the United States to Ghana.

I did not hide my GWR result; my account was tampered with – Afua Asantewaa

Media personality and former Guinness World Records (GWR) contender, Afua Asantewaa, finds herself at the center of controversy after her recent attempt to break the record for the longest singing marathon.

Asantewaa, sang for an impressive 126 hours and 52 minutes in December 2023, aimed to surpass the existing record of 105 hours held by an Indian singer since 2012.

However, the excitement surrounding her attempt quickly turned into a dispute when GWR announced on social media that Asantewaa did not break the record due to a violation of rules concerning rest break timings.

The organization also mentioned that they had refunded the $750 Asantewaa paid for a priority review and provided her with the results.

This announcement sparked public backlash, with accusations that Asantewaa was withholding the results from the Ghanaian public.

In response, Asantewaa clarified the situation during an appearance on UTV’s United Showbiz on March 2, 2024.

According to Asantewaa, her GWR account was deactivated due to the actions of one of her team members who attempted to send an application using her account, triggering a security alert from GWR.

She explained, “My logins were in the hands of different people in my team, some were responsible for uploading pictures and videos, and others were responsible for uploading witnesses and other evidence.”

Despite her account being reactivated on Thursday, February 29, Asantewaa claims she did not receive any specific details on why she was disqualified.

She expressed her determination to seek clarification from GWR, stating, “For now, it’s been opened, if you log in, you will see ‘Unsuccessful’.

But as to the reasons for their disqualification, they haven’t been given yet. So I’ve written to them to please provide details.”
Amidst the controversy, Asantewaa revealed that she is taking a short break to spend quality time with her family after the physically and emotionally demanding singing marathon.

The unfolding situation continues to capture the attention of fans and the public, leaving many eagerly awaiting GWR’s response to Asantewaa’s request for more information.
