Ghana’s economy is bleeding with no end in sight – Ato Forson

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader, has raised urgent concerns about the state of Ghana’s economy, emphasizing that it remains in a precarious condition despite government efforts to stabilize it.

He highlighted ongoing difficulties, including a depreciating currency and escalating debt levels.

Forson criticized the government’s economic policies, suggesting they have not effectively tackled the country’s fundamental issues.

He pointed out that many Ghanaians continue to face financial strain due to high living costs and rising unemployment.

He also expressed worries about the government’s borrowing practices, arguing that the reliance on loans to cover budget shortfalls and other expenses could lead to a deeper debt crisis, further destabilizing the economy.

Forson called for more prudent fiscal strategies and emphasized the need to foster a supportive environment for economic growth and job creation.

He lamented the fact that COCOBOD, the cocoa sector’s main institution, is struggling to secure loans from international banks, which he sees as indicative of broader economic problems.

“Ghana’s economy is still bleeding, cost of living continues to be high, and Ghanaians can simply not make ends meet.”

“These are the real bread and butter issues that should concern any serious government, and not the giveaway of much-needed tax revenue. As we speak, COCOBOD has been shut out from borrowing from international banks.”

“International Banks are running away from Ghana COCOBOD and the cocoa sector is on its knees,” he stated.

I walked from North Kaneshie to Gbawe due to broken heart- Artiste reveals

Ghanaian rising star Zico Ranking recently opened up about a personal crisis that led him to walk a remarkable distance.

During an interview with Hitz FM on September 4, 2024, Zico revealed that a heartbreak drove him to walk from North Kaneshie to Gbawe, a stretch of approximately 9.2 kilometers.

He shared that his former girlfriend, who had supported him through school, began distancing herself after she graduated.

“After her completion, she started saying things like I wasn’t her type anymore because of the fame I had in the school and all that. She wasn’t getting in contact with me anymore,” he shared.

Zico felt the impact of her change in attitude as she started to claim he no longer fit her ideal, attributing it to his growing fame.

The situation took a painful turn when Zico found messages on her phone that shattered his hopes for their future together.

“I went to her messages. And when I saw some of the messages that day, I walked from North Kaneshie to Gbawe. My mind was messed up. I wanted to build a career with her because of the things she did for me in school. She was even fighting her mates because of me. So I had plans for her,” he narrated.

These messages suggested plans with someone else, leaving him devastated and prompting his long walk to process the emotional blow.

“I saw messages like ‘Are we meeting at the hotel this weekend?’”

I used to serenade girls with Westlife songs – Akesse Brempong

Ghanaian gospel artist Phil Evans Akesse Brempong recently shared insights into his life before he found his calling in gospel music during an interview with Irene Adubea Aning on the Career Trail TV program.

During his senior high school days, Akesse used his singing abilities and a collection of RnB hits to win over girls.

He reminisced about a small book he owned that featured Westlife and other RnB songs. He would memorize these tunes and serenade his classmates to make an impression.

“I used to sing RnB songs to connect with the girls. I had this book with all the Westlife lyrics and RnB hits. I’d buy the cassette, learn the songs, and perform them. It was my way of getting to know people,” he shared.

His path took a pivotal turn at university when a friend named Gideon introduced him to a church meeting.

When the music director struggled with a song, Gideon recommended Akesse, who swiftly taught the song in just 15 minutes, impressing everyone with his skill.

“That day, Gideon brought me to a church meeting where I ended up teaching a song in 15 minutes. The music director was amazed and said I was really good,” Akesse recalled.

This opportunity led Akesse to direct the PENSA choir and engage in various gospel music activities at the university.
He took on roles such as directing the choir, participating in gospel programs, and contributing to the mass choir.

After graduating, Akesse fully embraced gospel music, moving away from his days of performing RnB for a new divine purpose.

How I was smooched by a female admirer in church – Uncle Ebo Whyte reveals

Renowned Ghanaian playwright and motivational speaker Uncle Ebo Whyte recently shared an unexpected encounter with a female admirer during a church event.

In an interview with Giovanni Caleb on TV3, Uncle Ebo recounted how he was invited to speak at a church on a women’s fellowship day, where he had a peculiar experience during a photo session with attendees.

While taking photos, a woman persistently positioned herself behind him, engaging in what he described as “smooching” throughout the session.

“There’s a church I went to preach in. It was women’s fellowship day and after that, they decided we should do pictures. A woman stood behind me and smooched me all through the photos.

“I didn’t even look at her. Any group they called, she was always there behind me, she wouldn’t move,” he narrated.

Despite her actions, Uncle Ebo remained composed, choosing not to react visibly.

Reflecting on the incident, Uncle Ebo challenged the typical notion that men dominate sexual encounters, asserting that women, in fact, hold the true power.

He emphasized that men often lose more than they gain in such situations, including energy, reputation, and opportunities.

“When a man sleeps with a woman, he tells his friends, ‘Oh, I finish am.’ But if you know who finished who, you will stop. You will not talk.

“In any sexual encounter. The winner is not the man. It’s the woman. The man, all you did was you gave your energy, you gave your reputation, you gave opportunities. You gave all kinds of things,” he said.

Uncle Ebo advised men to maintain their self-respect to avoid the potential consequences of reckless behaviour.

“When you understand that there’s the need for you to respect yourself, then you understand that this thing can bring you down. It can make you lose your respect and reputation like nothing else. And so be careful.

“An older friend of mine told me this. When you go to the forest and you find a table laid, walk away because you don’t know why the table is there,” he said.

Uncle Ebo advised men to maintain their self-respect and be cautious of reckless behavior that could harm their dignity and standing.

He illustrated this point with advice from an older friend: “When you go to the forest and find a table laid, walk away because you don’t know why the table is there.”

His disciplined approach to life and his insightful reflections are further explored in the GhanaWeb TV documentary, “The Uncle Ebo Whyte Story: A Legacy of Inspiration & Creativity,” which chronicles his journey from early struggles to becoming a celebrated figure in Ghanaian theater.

Police, NDC members clash at Finance Ministry during protest

On Wednesday, September 4, tensions flared at the Ministry of Finance when the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Brigade, a youth faction of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), clashed with security forces.

The ORAL Brigade, largely comprised of young NDC supporters, assembled to protest alleged financial mismanagement by the government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The group’s protest seeks to spotlight what they claim are severe issues in financial administration.

Central to their concerns is the unresolved $34.9 million Ambulance Spare Parts deal, which they argue has raised significant doubts about the procurement process and the proper use of funds meant for emergency medical services.

Additionally, they are scrutinizing the involvement of the Ghana Revenue Authority with the Strategic Mobilisation Limited deal and are demanding a full accounting of the 2023 All-African Games expenditures.

We didn’t cause fire at Zongo lane – Chinese Traders

Chinese Traders in Ghana have refuted claims that they are responsible for the recent fire outbreak on Zongo Lane.

In response to comments by Accra Mayor Elizabeth K. T. Sackey, who asserted the Chinese traders were responsible because they are not the legitimate landowners, James Yin, Secretary General of the Chinese Traders in Ghana, rejected these allegations as baseless.

In an interview with Accra-based GHOne TV, Yin asserted “we did not cause the fire at Zongo Lane. The fire actually started at an electrical warehouse near our shop. We were contacted by the owner of the affected shop to assist when the fire broke out, and we responded promptly. There are witnesses who can confirm this. We did not cause the fire,” Yin stated.

“We are the rightful owners of the land at Zongo Lane and have the documents to prove it. The Mayor’s claims are incorrect. I am prepared to provide the original documents as evidence, and anyone is welcome to challenge this in court,” Yin added.

Fire erupted at Zongo Lane near Rawlings Park in Makola, Accra, causing damage to several shops, leaving traders devastated on Sunday, September 1.

According to the Public Relations Department of the Ghana National Fire Service, Alex Nartey, the fire began as a small blaze but quickly intensified due to the inaccessibility of the area and the presence of highly flammable materials stored in many shops.

“The fire that started little has quickly spread as a result of inaccessibility and highly flammable materials found in the affected shops,” Nartey explained.

Firefighters arrived on the scene promptly and undertook a rigorous effort to control the flames.

Despite their intense work, the fire caused considerable destruction before it was brought under control.

Hours later, the eastern part of the affected structure at the Accra Zongo Lane fire collapsed, causing a protracted fire.

Efforts are under by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) officers to douse the flame.

According to the GNFS, no firefighter or civilian casualties have been recorded.

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Ghana National Fire Service.

Authorities are currently working to determine how the blaze started and to assess the full impact on the affected businesses.

  • Ghanaian music can’t cross borders due to lack of originality – Amandzeba

Ghanaian music can’t cross borders due to lack of originality – Amandzeba

Amandzeba Nat Brew, the renowned Ghanaian Highlife musician, recently discussed the challenges faced by Ghanaian music in breaking through international markets.

In an interview with Hitz FM on September 3, 2024, he reflected on a time when Ghanaian musicians were highly influential in Nigeria and Central Africa.

Amandzeba observed that the current trend sees Ghanaian artists mimicking Nigerian styles rather than celebrating their own unique Ghanaian heritage.

“About three or four decades ago, eastern Nigeria was full of Ghanaian musicians. So you ask yourself, how were they able to make inroads across West Africa? And it even goes all the way up to Central Africa. And so I’m asking myself if Joe Mensah was so huge in Nigeria.

“Why is the situation now the reverse? The reason is that we are trying to sing like the Nigerians. The Nigerians accepted us because we came as Ghanaians. Now it’s the opposite,” he said.

He questioned why Ghanaian musicians, who once dominated the music scene in Nigeria, are now struggling to gain similar traction.

He used the example of Magic System’s hit “Amoulanga” to illustrate his point, arguing that music’s global appeal isn’t tied to language.

Instead, it’s about the music’s simplicity and its ability to connect with listeners. He noted that the catchy nature of a song can overcome any language barriers, as seen with “Amoulanga,” whose meaning remains a mystery but still resonates widely.

“Language is not a barrier. Take for example. Magic System did a song called Amoulanga. What’s the meaning of Amoulanga? We don’t know the meaning of Amoulanga and all of us were digging into it. Where is the barrier here?

“You don’t need to look out for some kind of sophisticated arrangement or something. The simplicity of the rhythm or the lyrics can. If it is catchy, you can’t stop it,” he said.

Ghanaian artistes emulate Nigerian music style instead of being unique – Amandzeba

Veteran Ghanaian Highlife artist Amandzeba Nat Brew recently discussed the challenges Ghanaian music faces in gaining international recognition.

In an interview with Hitz FM on September 3, 2024, he reflected on a time when Ghanaian musicians had a significant presence in Nigeria and Central Africa.

Amandzeba observed a reversal in this trend, attributing it to Ghanaian artists now emulating Nigerian styles instead of showcasing their unique Ghanaian identity.

He questioned why musicians like Joe Mensah, who once thrived in Nigeria, seem to be overshadowed by Nigerian influence today.
He cited the example of Magic System’s “Amoulanga,” a song that resonated with audiences despite its unclear meaning.

Amandzeba emphasized that music’s ability to cross borders isn’t tied to language but rather to its simplicity and appeal.
He suggested that catchy and relatable music can overcome barriers, regardless of linguistic or cultural differences.

“Language is not a barrier. Take for example. Magic System did a song called Amoulanga. What’s the meaning of Amoulanga? We don’t know the meaning of Amoulanga and all of us were digging into it. Where is the barrier here?

She urged everyone to stay patient and focused, emphasizing the need to preserve Ghana’s reputation for peace and avoid actions that could disrupt the holiday season.

We pleaded with King Paluta for a video, but he gave excuses – Keche Andrew

Andrew Kofi Cudjoe of the Keche music group recently voiced his disappointment with King Paluta during an interview with ZionFelix.

Andrew expressed frustration over Paluta’s lack of promotion for their collaborative song, “My Father,” which was released earlier.

Andrew explained that despite Keche Joshua’s earlier social media criticism of Paluta for not promoting their track, Paluta’s manager initially claimed that they don’t use the main page for such promotions.

However, this claim proved false when Paluta’s page featured posts about collaborations with other artists like Eno Barony, Sista Afia, and Wendy Shay.

Further complicating matters, Andrew recounted how they struggled to get Paluta to record a video for the song’s lyric video.

Paluta cited illness as the reason for the delay, leading Keche to use footage from his “Aseda” video instead.

Although Paluta eventually sent a video of himself and his friends performing their collaboration, he did not share it on his social media platforms.

Andrew criticized Paluta for his lack of professionalism and poor treatment throughout the collaboration process, shedding light on the difficulties they faced.

I can’t date a man in his 30s who stays with his parents – Efia Odo

Efia Odo has stirred up controversy with her latest remarks on dating preferences, which have sparked a heated debate on social media.

In a forthcoming episode of “Rants, Bants, and Confessions,” the socialite and entrepreneur shared that she finds it unacceptable to date a man in his 30s who still resides with his parents.

Odo emphasized that her lifestyle, which involves being comfortably nude or in lingerie at home, demands a high degree of privacy.

She asserted that living with his family would hinder her ability to be herself, labeling it a major red flag for anyone over 30 who doesn’t have their own space.

“Any guy who is 30 and above and still lives with his parent is a red flag because I love to walk around the house naked. I’d love to walk about in lingerie and whatnot. If you don’t have your own space and you live with your mum, you’re a red flag,” she stated.

In addition, Odo made a provocative statement about men from Tema, calling them a red flag as well.

“Any guy who is from Tema is a red flag.”

Reflecting on her past, she admitted that her standards have evolved: “There was a time when I overlooked these things, but now, it’s non-negotiable.”

‘I was under pressure, forgive me’ – Pastor Love tells Ghanaians after outbursts

Pastor Love has issued a heartfelt apology to those affected by his recent social media outbursts directed at his ex-wife, Obaapa Christy.

He extended his apology specifically to the pastors he had previously accused of being involved with her, as well as to Ghanaians at large.

Acknowledging that his remarks were made in anger, Pastor Love emphasized his humanity and the potential for mistakes.

During an interview on PeaceFM, he expressed deep regret, saying, “My comments about Obaapa Christy were fueled by anger.

I’m only human, and I seek forgiveness from Ghanaians and the pastors I mentioned, including Kyiri Abosom and Adonteng Boateng, who resides in the United States. I was under pressure and said things I shouldn’t have. I hope they can forgive me.”

Previously, Pastor Love had accused several pastors of having a secret affair with Obaapa Christy.

His accusations, which were laced with vulgar language and severe insults, shocked many, drawing widespread criticism for their extremity.

These remarks were initially sparked by a dispute over his involvement in writing Obaapa Christy’s hit songs.

Stakeholders’ meeting on Lithium Mining Agreement boycotted by Minority

The Minority in Parliament has opted to boycott a stakeholders’ engagement concerning the Lithium Mining Agreement.

This agreement, involving Barari DV, was presented by the Lands and Natural Resources Minister in July and was then sent to the Lands and Natural Resources Committee for review.

Alhassan Suhuyini, the Ranking Member of the Committee, explained that their absence from the meeting was due to a simultaneous emergency Parliament session at the conference center.

As a result, they will not recognize the meeting’s outcomes.

“Regarding a call from Parliament to rectify two leases—a bauxite mining lease and the other a lithium mining lease—this meeting is being attended by only the majority members of the committee, and the reason is simple: the processes leading up to the organization of the meeting have been very flawed.

“Today is a special meeting of Parliament. It is not just special because about 15% of Members of Parliament have called this sitting. It is also special because of the venue that has been chosen for today’s sitting. It is not our usual venue. At our usual venue, it is easy to have committee meetings taking place at the same time as business on the floor, so that when it becomes necessary, members can move from the committee meetings to the business on the floor.”

Suhuyini criticized the process leading up to the meeting, pointing out that it was attended exclusively by majority members.

He highlighted that the emergency sitting’s unusual venue and timing conflicted with the committee’s regular schedule.

According to him, the committee meeting should have been rescheduled to accommodate the Parliament session.

He added that the chairman of the committee decided to proceed with the meeting despite the scheduling conflict, leading the Minority to prioritize the emergency Parliament session over the committee meeting.

“Together with our leadership, we have decided to attach seriousness to the emergency recall that has been done on us and to stay here and do business, and that is why you may realize later on that the committee meeting is made up of only members of the majority.”

Cooperate with our staff installing new smart meters – ECG MD to Ghanaians

Samuel Dubik Masubir Mahama, Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has called on Ghanaians to support staff working on the installation of new smart meters.

In an interview with Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr. Mahama emphasized the importance of cooperating with the team to ensure smooth implementation.

He urged against confronting or hindering the staff, stressing their role is to complete the installation efficiently.

“There is no need to confront or obstruct our staff as they are all there to work. I urge all Ghanaians to comply with our team as they install the new smart prepaid meters” he appealed.

He also warned that any tampering with the new smart meters would be met with serious consequences.

This initiative is part of a larger project to replace outdated meters in the Accra East region with advanced Smart MMS-compliant prepaid meters.

Running from September 2 to September 30, 2024, the project aims to upgrade 250,000 meters in key districts such as Makola, Teshie, Legon, Roman Ridge, Kwabenya, Mampong, Dodowa, and Adentan.

The new meters will enhance reliability and allow customers to manage their electricity usage more easily through the ECG Power App or a short code (*226#).

Mr. Mahama is optimistic about the project’s success, which aligns with ECG’s broader Loss Reduction Project (LRP) to improve efficiency and reduce losses across the country.

  • Cedi depreciation expected to slow down this week as demand pressure subsides – Reports

Cedi depreciation expected to slow down this week as demand pressure subsides – Reports

This week, the depreciation of the Ghana cedi is anticipated to ease as the pressure from high demand diminishes.

This follows a significant intervention by the Bank of Ghana in the foreign exchange market last week.

On August 28, 2024, the Central Bank injected approximately $28 million into the market via a 7-day forward auction and an additional $20 million to Bulk Oil Distributing Companies, addressing the heightened demand for US dollars.

These measures helped stabilize the cedi for the remainder of the week as demand pressures decreased.

Despite this stabilization, the cedi depreciated by 1.84% against the US dollar, 1.43% against the British pound, and 0.42% against the euro on the retail market last week.

Consequently, the dollar closed the week at GH¢16.28 on the retail market.

Year-to-date, the cedi has depreciated by around 24% against the US dollar.

However, Deloitte West Africa has suggested that the recent debt restructuring agreement with Ghana’s external creditors is expected to positively affect the local currency and mitigate imported inflation.

The NDC has destroyed water bodies than NPP – Annoh-Dompreh on galamsey

Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the Majority Chief Whip and MP for Nsawam-Adoagyir, has claimed that the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration was more responsible for water pollution than the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

This assertion was made in response to criticisms regarding the government’s handling of illegal mining, or galamsey, which is harming the country’s water resources.

During an emergency parliamentary session in Accra on Tuesday, Annoh-Dompreh challenged the Minority to a debate on the issue.

He asserted that a thorough investigation would reveal greater water pollution under the NDC’s tenure, asserting that their administration’s impact on water bodies was more severe.

He expressed readiness to engage in a debate to clarify the matter, emphasizing that past administrations also bear significant responsibility.

“I was very happy when the Minority Leader challenged us that we will debate this matter and the culprit will be mentioned. In fact, we are ready to debate now. If we are to look and investigate both sides of the house.

“You have had the opportunity to rule this country before. I can tell you; you polluted the water more than us. You polluted the water more than us. So, let’s get matters straight,” he stated.

During the discussion about his new single, ‘Grateful to Your Ex,’ Darlington was asked about his romantic experiences. He candidly admitted, “I’ve never dated or kissed anyone. I might be the last virgin in Ghana. Despite being over 20 years old, I’ve chosen to keep my personal life private and concentrate solely on my music career.”

He emphasized that his song is not drawn from personal experience but is intended to connect with listeners who have gone through breakups, encouraging them to value their past relationships.

Darlington also stated that he is not concerned with awards or nominations. His aim is to produce impactful and enduring music that touches people’s lives, preferring to focus on creating good music, performing, and building professional relationships over pursuing accolades.

I agree with Brother Sammy’s advice, young men shouldn’t marry early – Socrate Safo

Veteran Ghanaian filmmaker Socrate Safo has voiced his support for Gospel artist Brother Sammy‘s recent controversial advice to young men regarding marriage.

In an interview on Neat FM, Brother Sammy, despite being married himself, urged men to focus on having children rather than getting married, arguing that marriage tends to benefit women more than men.

He suggested that while marriage can lead to feelings of neglect, the bond between a father and child remains unbroken.

Socrate Safo, in an interview with Okay FM, echoed Brother Sammy’s views, stating that having children outside of marriage is not a negative thing.

He referenced biblical instances where prophets fathered children with concubines, emphasizing that such children were not treated as outcasts.

“I agree with what Brother Sammy said. It’s not a bad thing to have a child with a lady you aren’t married to. All this happened in the Bible; back then it was a norm. We had prophets who had children with their concubines. Children of concubines were not bastards that they got rid of.”

Safo also expressed his belief that, given the changing societal norms, having children outside of marriage might become more widely accepted in the future.

“Looking at the world we find ourselves in now, I believe it will be a norm that you have a child with a lady you are not married to,” he added.

Growing up, I was treated badly because of my fair skin – Adina Thembi

Adina Thembi Ndamse, popularly known as ‘Adina,’ opened up about the prejudice she faced growing up due to her fair skin.

In an interview with Amansan Krakye on Property FM, the ‘Killing Me Softly’ singer shared how people in her neighborhood unfairly labeled her as disrespectful and a troublemaker solely based on her appearance.

She recalled how her mother often received warnings from neighbors to keep a close watch on her, simply because of her light complexion.

Adina expressed her hurt at these judgments, noting that despite being a well-behaved and innocent child, people quickly assumed the worst about her based on her looks alone.

“I’ve had instances where in the area people used to tell my mother to keep a close eye on me just because I was very fair in complexion,” she revealed on Cape Coast-based Property FM

She continued, “When my mother used to tell me about the complaints she had received about me, I felt so hurt because I was just an innocent young girl, but just because of the way God has created me the moment you set your eyes on me you’d conclude that I’ll be a very bad girl or disrespectful.”

The NPP of today lacks men of integrity – Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe

Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a senior statesman and founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized some members of the party for lacking integrity.

He argued that the current members are primarily focused on wealth accumulation and property acquisition rather than serving the interests of the people.

Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe believes that the NPP should prioritize improving the lives of Ghanaians over pursuing material gains.

“The NPP today lacks individuals of integrity; we now have people who are solely interested in making money and acquiring property,” he stated.

You’ll die instantly if you sing songs I wrote for you – Obaapa Christy’s ex-husband fumes

Pastor Love has strongly rebutted recent claims made by his ex-wife, Obaapa Christy, who denied his involvement in writing her hit songs.

In a recent interview with Kingdom FM, Obaapa Christy dismissed the notion that Pastor Love contributed to her music, arguing that both of them lack formal education and thus, it’s implausible that he could have been her songwriter.

“Just like myself, Pastor Love is not academically sound, so it’s a lie that he was my songwriter,” she earlier stated.

Pastor Love, who has been following the controversy closely, responded with intense criticism.

In a viral video, he launched a vehement attack on Obaapa Christy, hurling accusations and insults.

He challenged her musical credibility, saying, “Have you ever written a song before? I’ll keep insulting you for a whole month; if I’m not tired, I’ll continue. Village woman, unserious woman. You’re a curse. All these people who call themselves gospel musicians. Do you even live out the messages in your songs?” he fumed.

You’re nothing but a village woman and a fraud. Do you even practice what you preach in your songs?”

Pastor Love further accused her of exploiting him for publicity and issued a harsh warning: “Anytime you sing any of the songs I’ve written for you, you’ll die an instant death.”

It’s not easy raising four kids alone – Kwaku Manu on parenthood

Actor Kwaku Manu has shared insights into the challenges and triumphs of raising his four children on his own, following his separation and divorce over three years ago.

In an interview with Zionfelix, he candidly spoke about the difficulties of single-handedly parenting without their mother’s involvement.

“It’s not easy to raise kids alone, especially if their mothers are not around,” he stated in an interview with Zionfelix.

Manu highlighted the importance of establishing strict household rules to maintain respect and discipline among his children, which he believes has been crucial in managing their upbringing.

“What makes it easier for me is that there are rules in my home. My kids are not allowed to behave anyhow or disrespect the people that take care of them in my home,” he said.

He stressed that his home operates on principles that prevent his children from misbehaving or disrespecting those who care for them.

Touching on the topic of women leaving their children with their fathers, he expressed his willingness to embrace the responsibility, stating, “If you leave them, I’ll gladly take them in.”

Despite the challenges, Manu described his relationship with his children as one filled with joy and companionship.

“They are my friends, my happiness. We’re always excited to see each other. I spend most of my time with them at home because I’m not the type to go out and chill recklessly. I’m not a careless dad,” he noted.

He considers them his closest friends and derives happiness from the time they spend together at home, emphasizing that he is a dedicated and responsible father who prioritizes his family over a carefree lifestyle.

    Background:

While the actor did not disclose the reasons for their split, he mentioned that despite their efforts to sustain the marriage, they ultimately decided to part ways.

He also highlighted that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to a successful marriage, as each relationship is unique.

FDA warns consumers to exercise caution when purchasing palm oil due to adulteration concerns

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has issued a strong warning to consumers about the need for extreme caution when buying palm oil due to ongoing concerns about adulteration.

The alert highlights the FDA’s continued battle against the presence of hazardous substances, particularly the banned ‘Sudan Four’ dye, which has been found in some palm oil products on the market.

This industrial dye, which is prohibited in food products due to its cancer-causing properties, poses a significant health threat to consumers.

Roderick Daddey-Adjei, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the FDA, voiced serious concern about the ongoing issue despite the Authority’s strict enforcement measures.

While progress has been made in reducing the amount of contaminated palm oil, Daddey-Adjei stressed that any level of contamination remains unacceptable.

He warned that those responsible for such practices are still active and assured that the FDA, alongside the police, is taking firm action against them, including arrests.

“But we are still not happy about that small percentage that is there, which means that people who perpetrated the activity are still lurking in the dark. And we also want to also let those who think that they can come back and keep on doing this, that their days are numbered. Because already with this one that we even did, we did some arrests, we have handed them over to the police.”

The greatest threat to Ghana’s democracy is EC – Nyaho-Tamakloe

Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a founding member of Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the Electoral Commission (EC), warning that its current actions could jeopardize Ghana’s democratic stability.

Speaking at an anti-corruption event at the GNAT Hall in Accra on Monday, September 2, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe labeled the EC as a major threat to democracy, suggesting their conduct could lead to national turmoil.

“I am saying at the moment, the greatest threat to have democracy is the Electoral Commission, that is the greatest threat to our democracy, and if we are not careful, they will lead this country into destruction, mark my words,” he said.

Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe, who has firsthand experience with political upheaval, underscored his concerns by recounting his own imprisonment during past coups.

He criticized the EC for mishandling recent issues, particularly citing unauthorized transfers of voters between constituencies.

“I’ve seen coup d’etat in this country, I have been part of coup d’etat in this country, and I know what I’m talking about. I spent almost five years of my life in prison,” he stated, emphasising the gravity of the situation.

He argued that these actions, carried out without proper consent, could significantly disrupt the electoral process.

“How on earth can transfers be made from one particular constituency to another without the consent of others? These are facts,” he quizzed.

This criticism comes as the EC faces heightened scrutiny from various stakeholders, including the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections.

A/R: Activities of illegal mining worrying, shut down of production plants possible – GWCL

The Ghana Water Company Limited has announced that it may have to shut down two major treatment plants in the Ashanti Region due to significantly increased turbidity, which is driving up production costs.

The Konongo and Odaso treatment plants have been severely affected by illegal mining activities, also known as ‘galamsey.’

In a recent interview on GhanAkoma’s Akoma 87.9 FM with host Sir John, Dr. Hanson Mensah Akutteh, the company’s Production Manager, expressed serious concern over the situation.

He warned that the shutdown could result in thousands of residents losing access to piped water.

The Ashanti Region has ten treatment plants, including Barekese, Owabi, Mampong, Konongo, Aframso, Odaso, New Edubiase, Tepa, Agona, and Effiduase Asokore.

“Ashanti Region has 10 treatment plants; Barekese, Owabi, Mampong, Konongo, Aframso, Odaso, New Edubiase, Tepa, Agona and Effiduase Asokore. However, out of the ten, two have a challenge; Konongo and Odaso treatment plants have been invaded by illegal miners. We are unable to treat the raw water. Shutting down the plants is possible: he said.

However, Konongo and Odaso are currently facing challenges. Dr. Akutteh explained that the plants are struggling to treat raw water due to contamination from illegal mining.

For instance, the Odaso plant, which should produce 4 million gallons of water daily, can only process 1.5 million gallons of raw water, with only half of that becoming potable.

The turbidity levels have soared from 25 NTU to an alarming 5,124 NTU, pushing the company toward a potential shutdown.

  • EC introduces new feature to authenticate voters after illegal vote transfer in Pusiga

EC introduces new feature to authenticate voters after illegal vote transfer in Pusiga

The Electoral Commission (EC) has unveiled a new liveliness check feature in response to recent issues with voter verification.

This enhancement aims to confirm the authenticity of biometric data by ensuring that it is captured from a live person, rather than from static images or other sources.

This update follows an incident involving the illegal transfer of 38 voters in the Pusiga district.

During a press briefing in Accra on September 2, Deputy Chair Dr. Bossman Asare explained that this new feature is designed to prevent misuse of biometric data, such as the use of photographs instead of live verification.

In light of the incident, the EC has suspended Haruna Muniru, the District Officer for Pusiga, due to allegations of unauthorized voter transfers.

“Following this incident, the Commission has introduced a liveliness check in the verification process which is a feature designed to ensure that the biometric data being captured is from a live present human being and not from a spruced source such us photographs which was what was done in this case,” he said.

The investigation revealed that these transfers occurred with the aid of an Electoral Commission official’s credentials, and the data from these transfers have been logged in the audit blocks of the voter management systems.

“Preliminary investigation by the Commission have revealed that voter transfer were indeed effected for 38 individuals using the credentials of Electoral Commission official. The records of those transfer are captured in the voter management systems audit blocks.

“A look at the verification done during the transfer process shows that the photos of the voters from the voter ID cards were used for official verification and to effect the transfers,” he noted.

Dr. Asare noted that the verification process for these transfers relied on voter ID photos rather than live verification.

Tommy Annan Forson gave me my first opportunity in radio presenting – Jon Germain

Media personality Jon Germain recently shared the story of how his broadcasting career began while he was working in the library department at Choice FM.

In an interview on 3FM’s Lounge, he revealed that his first opportunity to host a radio show came thanks to the legendary presenter, Tommy Annan Forson.

At the time, many were skeptical about giving Jon a chance, considering his position in the library.

However, Tommy Annan Forson saw potential in him and decided to take a chance.

With Tommy’s support, Jon was given the opportunity to host the Drive Time show on Choice FM, which eventually led to him becoming the mid-morning show host.

“Tommy Annan Forson single-handedly because I remember a lot of people [didn’t like the idea]. How’s the guy in the library going to host a show. There are other presenters who have been doing this for a while and if you want to add a new show to the station’s programmes, you can always give that to another pers on and then you want to pick the guy in the library to host a show, people didn’t like that idea.

“But Tommy said he is going to do it and he can do it and months after I was hosting the Drive Time show and I got to host the mid-morning show on Choice FM as well and few years later, I was at Metro TV,” he said on 3FM.

This experience laid the foundation for Jon’s career in broadcasting, and he later transitioned to Metro TV.

Focus on having a free and fair election which will guarantee peace – Togbe Afede

Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, has urged Ghanaians to shift their focus from merely advocating for peace during elections to demanding free and fair electoral processes.

In his view, the integrity of the electoral system is critical for ensuring long-term peace and stability in the country.

During a recent public event, following a visit from members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) legal team, Togbe Afede emphasized that while peace is essential, it is the fairness and transparency of elections that truly safeguard against violence and unrest.

He called on citizens to remain vigilant and to hold electoral authorities accountable to ensure that upcoming elections are conducted with integrity.

According to Togbe Afede, transparent and credible elections are key to reducing the likelihood of disputes and conflicts.

He highlighted the importance of prioritizing the electoral process’s integrity, noting that a fair election is foundational to a peaceful society.

As political tensions rise in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections, Togbe Afede’s call for a focus on fair elections rather than just peace underscores the need for a transparent electoral system to maintain stability in Ghana.

His statement, “Why is everybody talking about peace during and after the elections, and nobody is talking about Free and fair elections, which will rather guarantee the peace we are all looking for,” reflects his concern for a more comprehensive approach to election-related issues.

  • Lack of compliance, enforcement fostering galamsey activities – Eco-Conscious activist

Lack of compliance, enforcement fostering galamsey activities – Eco-Conscious activist

An environmental activist, Awula Serwah has expressed her concerns about the ongoing devastation caused by illegal mining activities to water bodies and the overall standard of living in Ghana.

In a recent interview with Accra-based Joy News, the Eco-conscious coordinator argued that the issue cannot be solved merely by issuing licenses to miners.

She emphasized that for the fight against illegal mining to be effective, authorities and all stakeholders must go beyond the mere issuance of licenses.

Instead, they should focus on enforcing regulations and ensuring strict compliance.

According to Awula Naa, the lack of enforcement and adherence to existing rules has allowed illegal mining to persist, wreaking havoc on the environment.

“The problem is governance. Are we in the Wild West? It’s about compliance and enforcement. We should shift the argument now. It’s not just about illegal mining,it is illegal; they are committing a crime. When people commit a crime, what happens with law and order? It’s only in the Wild West that anyone can do what they like while the authorities stand idly by. When there is a government in place, you cannot do that, and if you don’t comply, then the law takes its course,” AwulaSerwah stated.

The issue of illegal mining, known locally as “galamsey,” has gained renewed attention following a release by the Management of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in the Central Region.

The company attributed the current water crisis in Cape Coast, Elmina, and surrounding communities to illegal mining activities.

According to the GWCL, the recent demand-supply gap is a result of inadequate raw water being received at the Sekyere Hemang Water Treatment Plant (WTP) due to the effects of galamsey.

The GWCL explained that the pollution of the Pra River, especially at its catchment area for water abstraction, has severely reduced water availability.

“About sixty percent (60%) of the catchment capacity is silted as a result of illegal mining, compromising the quality of raw water. We are currently recording an average turbidity of 14,000 NTU instead of the 2,000 NTU designed for adequate treatment. Currently, the plant is able to produce only about 7,500 m³/day, a quarter of its installed capacity,” the company said in a release on August 31, 2024.

The Environmental Protection (Mining in Forest Reserves) Regulations, 2022 (L.I. 2462), which was enacted on June 23, 2022, allows mining in forest reserves under certain conditions thus restrictions on biodiversity areas.

This regulation derives its authority from Section 62(1) of the Environmental Protection Agency Act, 1994 (Act 490), empowering the Minister responsible for the Environment to make regulations to give effect to the Act.

However, Awula Serwah has criticized the L.I. 2462.

Awula Serwah argued that the current regulations are not effectively enforced due to lapses in L.I. 2462.

She is therefore calling for mining in forest reserves be withdrawn.

Eco-Conscious Ghana, led by Awula Serwah, is an environmental initiative focused on advocating for a clean, green, healthy and serene environment.

The movement continues to push for stronger measures against illegal mining and better governance in environmental protection.

“Although I did that [crowned him], it was not my will. They forced me to crown the boy. That’s the reason I did that
“Even the crown they gave to me to put on his head, I gave it to someone to place it somewhere. But later, they gave it back to me to adorn him with it,” Amakye Dede stated.

Why I don’t attend church services – Bisa Kdei reveals

Ghanaian Highlife artist Bisa Kdei recently opened up about his discontent with religion and his decision to stop attending church services.

In an interview with Accra’s Hitz FM on September 2, 2024, Bisa Kdei explained that his dissatisfaction stems from the way churches are currently operating, especially concerning their use of social media.

He expressed frustration over how some churches seem to prioritize self-promotion over genuine spiritual growth.
Instead of promoting God, people are promoting themselves, and that bothers me a lot.

“People suffer on the streets; people suffer in churches; they pay their tithes; they pay offerings; and then later on they’ll be suffering. They will come to your DMs and say this and that while you see a pastor driving a big car, living in a big mansion, and all that. It’s a whole lot for me,” he added.

He noted that many people continue to face hardships despite their financial contributions to the church, while seeing pastors living in luxury, which he finds troubling.

Despite his grievances, Bisa Kdei affirmed that he still considers himself a Christian and is contemplating returning to church at some point.

“It’s a whole lot; sometimes I say to myself that maybe I will go very soon,” he stated.

He also mentioned that his wife remains a committed Christian, humorously noting her deep faith.

He said, “My wife is a full believer. It’s almost as though she was there when Jesus Christ was born.”

I’ll endorse a political party only if the money is good- Bisa Kdei

Ghanaian Highlife artist Bisa Kdei has shared that he would only create a song for a political party if the financial offer is substantial.

In a recent interview with Hitz FM in Accra on September 2, 2024, he explained that his decision would be influenced by the money and the potential benefits it could bring him.

“If someone offers me a significant amount that could greatly benefit me, even if it means facing some backlash, I would consider it. But if it’s just a small amount and could cost me fans, then I wouldn’t be interested,” he said.

Bisa Kdei also addressed the common dilemma faced by artists when endorsing political parties, noting that financial needs often drive these decisions rather than genuine political beliefs.

He advised fans to view such endorsements as part of the creative performance and not take them too seriously.

“For many artists, these endorsements are more about financial necessity than actual political alignment. It’s important for fans to understand that,” he added.

Mahama can’t be trusted to continue the Free SHS policy – Omane Acheampong

Gospel musician Nicholas Omane Acheampong has expressed doubts about John Dramani Mahama’s promise not to cancel the Free SHS policy if re-elected.

His skepticism stems from Mahama’s previous comments regarding the policy when it was proposed by the New Patriotic Party while they were in opposition.

Omane Acheampong acknowledges that his stance may attract criticism, particularly from members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

However, he has grown accustomed to such reactions and is not concerned about the potential backlash.

“If I remain silent as a celebrity, focused solely on my brand, and Mahama returns as President, we might find that he cancels the Free SHS policy. That’s why I’m not worried,” he stated during an interview on Joy FM. “While Mahama has assured that he won’t cancel it, his previous statements since the policy’s introduction in 2008 give me reason to doubt.”

On the other hand, John Dramani Mahama has consistently affirmed that he has no intention of abolishing Free SHS.

In 2020, he clarified, “Free Senior High School education is here to stay. If anyone claims I would abolish it, they are lying. My concern lies with the poor implementation, which has caused significant inconvenience for parents, students, and teachers. We can make it better. If the government had continued with the 200 new Senior High Schools we were building, the current issues with Free SHS could have been avoided.”

  • Men should be allowed to have as many wives as they want – MC Yaa Yeboah

Men should be allowed to have as many wives as they want – MC Yaa Yeboah

MC Yaa Yeboah has passionately defended the practice of polygamy, advocating for men’s right to have multiple wives if they choose and are financially capable.

She argued that society’s criticism of men with more than one wife is misplaced and emphasized that women who choose to become second wives should not be judged or demeaned.

During a recent appearance on United Showbiz, Yaa Yeboah spoke against the stigma surrounding second wives, challenging the belief that a woman can “snatch” another’s husband.

“If a man says he wants to marry ten, fifteen, or even twenty wives and can afford it, let them be. I have also noticed something about our society, they don’t have a problem with wealthy men who have more than one wife. But when a woman is a second wife to an average person, they make her feel less of herself.

“They criticize the other woman for clinging to someone’s husband and not finding her own. If a married man doesn’t date the other woman, how will he be able to make his choice of a second wife? That is why I don’t believe the assertion that another woman can snatch someone’s husband. What evidence do you have? What did she snatch him with?” she boldly stated.

She pointed out that society tends to be more accepting of wealthy men with multiple wives but looks down on women who marry into polygamous relationships with less affluent men.

Yaa Yeboah questioned the validity of claims that a woman can “snatch” a husband, asserting that the decision lies with the man.

She argued that if a man seeks to marry a second wife, it is his choice, and society should respect that decision.

Furthermore, Yaa Yeboah called for greater acceptance of women who wish to be second wives, as long as they are aware of the implications.

“If a woman wants to be a second wife, let her be. As long as she understands the advantages and disadvantages of being a second wife, let her be. And to the first wives, if your husband wants to bring a second wife and you don’t want it or the stress that comes with it, leave the marriage. Life can be so simple,” she stated.

She also suggested that first wives who are uncomfortable with their husbands taking another wife should consider leaving the marriage, rather than enduring unnecessary stress.

She also voiced her skepticism about the growing number of marriage counselors on social media, suggesting that many of them offer advice despite facing challenges in their own marriages.

  • I’m not seeking media attention, Drogba’s healing was God’s work – CECY pastor

I’m not seeking media attention, Drogba’s healing was God’s work – CECY pastor

Head Pastor Enock Boamah of the Christ Embassy Airport City Youth Church has addressed the controversy surrounding a viral video of actor John Peasah, popularly known as ‘Drogba’ from the TV series Yolo, sharing his testimony of healing during a recent church event.

In the video, Drogba recounted his experience of miraculous healing at a crusade held in Accra, highlighting his newfound ability to perform tasks he had been unable to do for the past four years due to health issues.

The testimony sparked a mix of reactions online, with some celebrating the miracle and others expressing skepticism.
In response, Pastor Boamah spoke during a Sunday service, where he clarified that Drogba’s testimony was genuine and unsolicited.

He emphasized that Drogba personally shared his experience without any prompting from the church, stating, “The person said he feels better. We didn’t ask him; he said he feels better.”

Addressing accusations that he was using the testimony for publicity, Pastor Boamah explained that he had instructed the media team not to post the testimony initially, as he was not seeking attention or clout.

He also reflected on the criticism he has received, viewing it as a sign of elevation by God, drawing parallels with the persecution faced by early Christians.

During the same service, Pastor Boamah hinted that Drogba’s testimony was just one of many miracles that occurred that night, suggesting that there is more to the story that will be shared later.

Drogba, who has been battling Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare condition that causes severe muscle stiffness and difficulties in public spaces, shared that he experienced significant improvement following the crusade.

He expressed relief and optimism about his condition, noting that he had struggled to find others with the same condition in Ghana.

    Background

Recently, the actor disclosed that he is battling multiple conditions simultaneously, which has sparked public concern.

He disclosed battling sleep apnea syndrome, multiple debilitating disorders, and a Stiff Person Spectrum Disorder, a rare neurological condition that causes muscle stiffness and painful spasms.

He also disclosed battling with GAD-positive cerebellar Cerebellar Ataxia, which affects his coordination and balance.

Additionally, he said he experiences constant visual challenges, tremors, and dizziness.

    Gofundme appeal

About a week ago, the actor launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise $280,000 for medical care overseas.

He mentioned that the high costs associated with his treatment have significantly drained his financial resources, prompting him to seek additional funding for his medical care outside the country.

Most creatives opposed gov’t’s idea of establishing a recording studio – Okraku Mantey

Mark Okraku Mantey, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, recently revealed that there was significant opposition within the music industry to the government’s proposal for a new recording studio.

This initiative, promised in the 2020 manifesto, aimed to provide an advanced recording facility at a reduced cost for artists. However, four years later, the promise remains unfulfilled.

During the 3Entertainment Creative Arts forum on August 30, Okraku Mantey explained that the industry was divided on the issue.

“the industry fought against it, it is explicit and it was all over. Some were for, some were against but the against were higher.”

While some supported the idea, the opposition was stronger.

Critics argued that existing studios were already meeting their needs and suggested that the funds be distributed among industry professionals instead.

“If the industry shows interest that we should build, why not. The industry rejected and said we should share the money amongst them but they already have studios which were doing well,” he stated.

Notably, Nacee, a well-known figure in the industry, was mentioned as having been vocal against the proposal.

According to Okraku Mantey, Nacee had previously expressed support but recently changed his stance, now believing that the studio is no longer necessary.

“You can quote me anywhere. Nacee, a few weeks ago was on Hitz FM, he went to Peace FM again and was asked and he said at the time, he supported but he feels that now, we don’t need it.”
