  • How Akufo-Addo’s ‘vibrating’ chair caused outrage during Akosombo Dam spillage tour

How Akufo-Addo’s ‘vibrating’ chair caused outrage during Akosombo Dam spillage tour

In a move that continues to stir controversy, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has maintained the practice of having his presidential chair allegedly transported in a dedicated V8 vehicle during his recent tours.

The latest instance was noted during his visit to communities affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage.

This trend first caught public attention in August 2020, when keen observers pointed out that the President seemed to carry along a specific chair to all public events, regardless of his location across the nation.

Instances were cited during his tours in the North East and Ashanti Regions, where the customary studio seats were set aside in favour of the President’s distinct chair during radio interviews.

The spectacle of the presidential chair, often replacing standard seating arrangements, has drawn mixed reactions. While some individuals argue that it falls within the bounds of standard protocol, others have conjectured spiritual connotations. A more pragmatic explanation was offered by Gabby Otchere-Darko, who posited that the unique chair is employed as a precautionary health measure amidst the Coronavirus pandemic.

However, the narrative took a more contentious turn when Lawyer Edudzi Kudzo Tamekloe, earlier this year, expressed his astonishment upon witnessing a whole V8, complete with a driver and guard, devoted solely to the conveyance of the President’s chair. This revelation intensified the debate surrounding the necessity and symbolism of this practice.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, affiliated with the opposition, publicly censured President Akufo-Addo’s action, branding it as a manifestation of “arrogant leadership.” His sentiments echoed the discontent simmering among critics, who view the transportation of the presidential chair as an extravagant and unnecessary protocol.

Amidst the furor, an intriguing explanation has surfaced. A confidential source within the presidency, as reported by ghananewsonline.com.gh, divulged that the chair is no ordinary piece of furniture. It is allegedly equipped with a device designed to administer mild electrical vibrations, intended to keep the President alert and awake during public engagements. This strategy was reportedly devised to counteract any public perception of the President’s fatigue or lack of vigour, especially critical in the lead-up to elections.

The same source revealed a calculated move by the presidency to mask the true purpose of the chair. By encouraging rumours linking the chair to superstition and the supernatural, the presidency hoped to exploit the general populace’s tendency towards these beliefs, thus providing a smokescreen for the chair’s actual utility.

The sight of the presidential chair, whether in radio station studios or at ceremonial events, serves as a constant reminder of the mysteries, debates, and political manoeuvrings that can lurk behind the seemingly mundane.

  • Which leader jokes when his subjects are in distraught? shame on you! – NDC MP to Akufo-Addo’s defenders

Which leader jokes when his subjects are in distraught? shame on you! – NDC MP to Akufo-Addo’s defenders

Member of Parliament representing Builsa South, Dr Clement Apaak, has strongly criticized those who have defended President Akufo-Addo’s remarks during his visit to the victims of the dam spillage.

The lawmaker found it difficult to comprehend why certain individuals would support the president’s controversial comments.

On October 16, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo visited the Volta Region to assess the consequences of the Akosombo dam spillage and the condition of the affected individuals.

His expressions of sympathy for the victims, irrespective of their political affiliations, sparked a heated debate.

“When these things happen and the government acts, politics does not come into the matter at all. When I took the Oath of Office as president, I took the oath as president for every single individual in Ghana, all people in Ghana, all districts and whether they voted for me or not.

“Once I have taken the oath, I am the president of all the people, so Togbe, I want the people here, beginning with you and the elders, to understand that when something like this happens and the government acts, the government is acting for Ghanaians, all Ghanaians.

“I came here because Ghanaians are having difficulties and are suffering, and it is my responsibility to try and help. Because if it is a question of counting who votes for me and who doesn’t vote for me, then I shouldn’t be here because you don’t vote for me.

But that is not my concern. And, in any event, one day you will vote for me and my party,” he said to some of the victims at Mepe in the region.

While the president faced strong criticism, some individuals chose to downplay his comments as mere jokes.

However, Dr. Clement Apaak expressed bewilderment at those who supported the president, asserting that the remarks were in poor taste.

He pointed out that the president’s comments were not delivered in the context of a comedy show.

In a tweet, the MP said, “A joke! Those seeking to excuse the grossly insensitive comments by NADAA when he finally visited victims of the floods must bow their heads in shame. He was joking? Was he attending a comedy show or a festival? A leader jokes when thousands of citizens are distraught.”

Akufo-Addo to meet with cabinet today to discuss the economy, Dam Spillage matters

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his Cabinet are commencing a three-day retreat to discuss the country’s economy and the humanitarian crisis resulting from the Akosombo and Kpong Dams’ spillage.

This retreat follows the International Monetary Fund’s approval of a $600 million balance of payment support tranche for Ghana after a staff agreement was reached.

The discussion will also focus on the devastating impact of the dam spillage, which has left thousands homeless in the Volta, Eastern, and parts of the Greater Accra Regions.

The Volta River Authority initiated the controlled water spillage on September 15, 2023, due to a consistent rise in the inflow pattern and water level of the Akosombo reservoir.

Numerous residents in South Tongu, North Tongu, Central Tongu, Asuogyaman, and other areas have seen their homes submerged due to the spillage.

President Akufo-Addo visited Mepe and surrounding areas to assess the damage caused by the spillage and assured the affected residents that the government would take all necessary steps to provide aid.

He mentioned that the inter-ministerial committee he established will determine the immediate relief for the victims and work towards preventing such a disaster from happening again in the future.

“The coordination is about the immediate and the most important thing was to ensure the life of people and that is why 9 centres were established for all the displaced people and all the people in these 9 centres have been provided relief items by NADMO, and it is NADMO’s intention to continue to provide relief items. Apart from what NADMO is doing, we must also think about the future.”

  • Dam spillage: Akufo-Addo’s political comment was not right but cut him some slack – Prof Smart Sarpong

Dam spillage: Akufo-Addo’s political comment was not right but cut him some slack – Prof Smart Sarpong

A Senior Research Fellow of the Kumasi Technical University, Professor Smart Sarpong, has called on Ghanaians to be temperate in their criticism of President Akufo-Addo over his recent remarks when he visited victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage.

In his words on October 19, the president said: “I came here because Ghanaians are having difficulties and suffering. And it is my responsibility to try and help.

“Because if it is the question of counting who votes for me and who doesn’t vote for me, I shouldn’t be here because you don’t vote for me. But that is not my concern. And in any event, one day you would vote for me and my party.”

Since his comments, the president has been chided by some members of the general public who believe the president’s utterances do not correlate with the sad situation of citizens who have lost their properties to flooding.

Reacting to the development, Professor Smart Sarpong admitted that the president’s remarks were not the best considering the situation, however, he called for tempers to quieten as the president was exhibiting the kind of politics practiced in the continent.

“For the golden issue, you can say he (President Akufo-Addo) should have avoided it but then those who are being mischievous must be moderate with it because you understand that type of politics very well. You have even said worse. It is on the internet.
We who are listening, let’s relax. What kind of difficult politics are we doing. We overstretch the politics in Africa too much,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Queen Mother of Mepe, Mamaga Adzo Srako IV, has criticised the media for taking President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s recent remarks, made during his visit to console flood victims, out of context.

During a media engagement, she mentioned that the humorous comment he made about not gaining many votes from the region was merely a lighthearted comment that the media milked unnecessarily.

“The president made promises that immediately he’ll see to us, and in the long term he’ll see to us.

However, the little joke the president told, that if it were because of votes, he would not have come here, has rather become the news,” she lamented.

She went on to express her regret that the media’s focus on these minor remarks had overshadowed the real issue: the dire situation faced by the flood-stricken people, who are currently grappling with a severe humanitarian crisis.

“That’s what you [the media] are circulating instead of talking about the disaster that has befallen us. You chose to rather make a big deal out of the harmless joke by the president

“We were not pleased with you journalists,” she declared.

For about a week, a section of the Volta Region has had to bear the consequences of the Akosombo Dam spillage, where several people have been displaced and farms destroyed.

Akosombo Dam is a hydroelectric power plant that generates electricity from the Volta River. The dam has a reservoir that can store water up to a maximum level of 276 feet.

However, due to heavy rainfall in the upstream areas, the water level in the reservoir has been rising steadily, threatening to overflow the dam.

To prevent this, the Volta River Authority (VRA), which operates the dam, has been spilling excess water from the dam into the downstream areas.

Matthew Opoku Prempeh to receive recognition as Akufo-Addo’s most dynamic minister

Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh is slated to be honoured with the title of “most dynamic minister” within the Akufo-Addo administration.

This accolade will be bestowed upon Dr. Prempeh by the Education and Management Training Foundation (EDMAT Foundation) on November 4, 2023, in recognition of his exceptional performance and leadership in the two ministries he has overseen during the current government’s tenure.

In an official statement signed by the Foundation’s Executive Director, Dr. Robert Okyne, the foundation commended the Minister’s remarkable achievements, particularly his instrumental role in the successful implementation of the groundbreaking Free Senior High School Policy.

“Indeed, we saw your massive transformation of the education sector with robust revitalization of education policies, among others”, the statement said.

The statement continued: “In your current position as Energy Minister, we have closely followed the successes being chalked by Dr. Prempeh. We are sure the President and in fact, Ghanaians are seeing you as the most dynamic Minister. You are the bulldozer and Mender.”

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has had a series of notable honours and recognitions.

In July of this year, he was honored by the University of Cape Coast, which conferred upon him a Doctor of Educational Leadership Degree.

This recognition was in acknowledgment of his exceptional achievements during his tenure as the Minister for Education.

Prior to this, both the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) and the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) had similarly recognized his contributions.

Additionally, Dr. Prempeh earned the distinction of being named the best Minister in 2019 and 2022. His exceptional leadership qualities were also celebrated with an honor from the Civil Service.

  • Akosombo Dam spillage: Akufo-Addo has no plans to declare state of emergency

Akosombo Dam spillage: Akufo-Addo has no plans to declare state of emergency

The President and Chief Executive Officer of the Institute for Security, Disaster, and Emergency Studies, Dr. Ishmael Norman, has expressed his belief that there is a slim chance that President Akufo-Addo will declare a state of emergency in response to the flood disaster caused by the Akosombo Dam spillage.

While Dr. Norman supports the idea of the President declaring a state of emergency, he points out that President Akufo-Addo’s past actions do not indicate a likelihood of taking such a step, even on a regional level.

During an interview with the media, Dr. Norman explained that President Akufo-Addo did not employ the Emergency Powers Act of 1994 (Act 471) or Article 31 of the 1992 Constitution, even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Norman elaborated, saying, “the reason why he wouldn’t declare a state of emergency, not even a regional state of emergency, is because it entails a lot. You remember that he used Executive Instrument 61 when it started and then 10 (12) of 2020 to declare a health emergency, not even a state of emergency but a health emergency, meaning other considerations were not important even though the COVID situation was a massive disruption to activities everywhere.”

“In this situation with spillage and flooding, he is not going to declare a state of emergency, not even a regional state of emergency. He will come out with an Executive Instrument that will allow him to perform without reporting to Parliament because the modalities for the state of emergency are very technical, and our President doesn’t like to control by the laws too much”.

Dr. Norman stressed that, if the government is genuinely committed to resolving the issue, the most prudent approach would be to declare a regional state of emergency, given the limited scope of the crisis.

He noted that the spillage and subsequent flooding had not yet reached a national scale, affecting perhaps 9 to 12 districts.

To declare a regional state of emergency, the President would need to report to Parliament and adhere to the specified procedures under Article 31.

  • ‘Sustaining Ghana’s agriculture is dependent on the youth’ – Akufo-Addo

‘Sustaining Ghana’s agriculture is dependent on the youth’ – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has emphasized that the future of Ghana’s agriculture hinges on the youth.

According to the president, the government is reliant on the youths’ energy, novel concepts, and inventive approaches to enhance the overall prosperity of Ghana.

In light of this, he issued a passionate appeal to all young Ghanaians, regardless of their educational background, to unite in support of the government’s latest flagship program, “Youth in Agriculture.” He encouraged them to consider agriculture as a lifelong career choice.

He issued this call during his speech at the presidential conference regarding the “Youth in Agriculture” initiative, which took place on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at the Cedi Conference Centre, University of Ghana.

“Sustaining Ghana’s agriculture is dependent on the youth. The youth are the future of this country, and we count on their vibrancy, fresh ideas, and innovation to improve our collective fortune,” President Akufo-Addo said.

He added: “Agriculture, a major sector of the economy awaits the participation of the youth both educated and uneducated. This dialogue, this platform is a valuable step towards harnessing the potential of the youth to address the challenges in the agriculture sector. Realized, this will ensure the sustainable development of agriculture for the overall benefit of our country.”

The President underscored that the program’s design, centered on value-chain development, inherently presents expanded opportunities for the youth.

“To take advantage of this opportunity, I urge the youth to rally around this initiative (Youth in Agriculture) and form cooperatives and partnerships for the maximum benefit of the program.”

Regarding the state of the economy and the endeavors of his administration to restore economic stability and foster growth, President Akufo-Addo pointed out that there are evident indicators that the economy is progressing towards recovery. One of these signs is the downward trajectory of inflation.

“The prospects for the rebound are growing stronger and stronger. We are working hard to sustain this momentum. Inflation has reduced from 54.1% in December 2022 to 38.1% in September and there is every indication that by the end of the year, it will be around 27%. By the end of my tenure next year, 15%” the President stated.

On his part, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, clarified that the “Youth in Agriculture” initiative, integrated into the second phase of the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) program, is structured to facilitate the entry of the younger generation into agriculture with minimal challenges.

“Our invitation to young people to go into agriculture is not a hole and cutlass business. Through the collaboration between the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the YEA under the banner, “PFJ 2.0 Youth in Agriculture,” we are going to put 200,000 youth into permanent work in agriculture with each individual cultivating an average farm size of 10 acres” Bryan Acheampong said.

“This will mean putting 400,000 hectares of arable land under cultivation. The target commodities under this intervention would include maize, rice, and vegetables.

“However, if we put all the 400,000 hectares of land under rice cultivation alone, we will exceed our food self-sufficiency production target of 1.8 million metric tonnes in two years instead of the five-year plan under the Planting for Food and Jobs Programme” the Food and Agriculture Minister added.

The Youth in Agriculture Programme (YIAP) represents an agricultural sector initiative by the Government of Ghana (GOG) designed to inspire and encourage young individuals to view farming and food production as viable commercial enterprises, thereby choosing agriculture as a lifelong career.

The YIAP is entrusted with the role of mobilizing young people to embrace farming and its related activities as a lifelong pursuit. This approach offers several advantages, such as employment opportunities for the youth, the provision of tractor services, and the supply of agricultural inputs.

The overarching objective of the Youth in Agriculture Programme is to cultivate a mindset among the youth that views farming as a lucrative business endeavor. It aims to generate substantial income to address farmers’ personal and domestic needs, enhance the quality of life for young individuals through increased income, encourage them to remain in rural areas by providing inputs at their farm gates on a credit basis without interest, and employ modern techniques to produce an ample supply of food crops, meat, and fish.

The Youth in Agriculture encompasses four main components: Crops/Block Farm, Livestock and Poultry, Fisheries/Aquaculture, and Agribusiness. This initiative is open to individuals interested in farming, groups of young men and women within the community eager to engage in agriculture, and institutions dedicated to farmer training.

  • Akufo-Addo’s ‘special’ chair ‘joins’ him on tour of communities affected by Akosombo Dam spillage

Akufo-Addo’s ‘special’ chair ‘joins’ him on tour of communities affected by Akosombo Dam spillage

In the wake of the recent Akosombo Dam spillage crisis, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo embarked on a tour to the affected communities.

However, it wasn’t just the President’s presence that caught the attention of the masses. Accompanying him on this vital trip was his now-famous “special” chair, sparking widespread discussion among Ghanaians.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, an aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, expressed his discontent on social media, describing President Akufo-Addo’s insistence on the chair as a sign of “arrogant leadership.”

This singular focus on the President’s chair, some argue, detracted from more pressing issues at hand during his tours, such as the immediate response to the Akosombo Dam spillage’s ramifications. Affected communities required urgent aid and solutions, a matter that risked being sidelined by the ongoing discourse over a piece of furniture.

The President’s chair first became a topic of public intrigue in August 2020, when netizens observed that President Akufo-Addo used a particular chair at all public events and interviews, no matter where he travelled.

This distinctive seat even accompanied him to radio stations, replacing the usual studio seats provided.

The chair’s consistent appearance generated mixed reactions. While some individuals considered it a standard protocol or a protective measure against COVID-19, as suggested by Gabby Otchere-Darko, others speculated about potential spiritual connotations or other extraordinary reasons.

One of the more startling explanations came from a report published on ghananewsonline.com.gh. It suggested the chair was fitted with a device designed to deliver mild electrical vibrations, intended to keep the President alert and awake during public functions. This speculation, while unconfirmed, added a layer of mystery and controversy surrounding the “special” chair.

Despite these debates, the President’s tour in the aftermath of the Akosombo Dam spillage was of critical importance. Communities affected by this environmental crisis needed swift interventions and reassurances. However, the presence of the chair somewhat overshadowed the gravity of the tour.

Critics, including members from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), lambasted the act of transporting this chair to the affected communities.

As President Akufo-Addo continues his work, the chair remains a contentious symbol. For some, it is a mere object, a peculiarity without consequence. For others, it signifies a leader’s disconnect or an administration’s skewed priorities amidst national challenges.

What is indisputable, though, is that the “special” chair has become a silent protagonist in the narrative of President Akufo-Addo’s tenure, participating in every scene, whether in times of crisis or calm.

  • Akufo-Addo ignored me after I rejected $5m bribe – Prof. Frimpong-Boateng

    Akufo-Addo ignored me after I rejected $5m bribe – Prof. Frimpong-Boateng

Former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng has revealed a time in 2020 when he got ignored by the president and subsequently lost his position as chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) and minister of the Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation ministry.

In an expansive interview with the American-based pan-African publication AFRICAWATCH, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng who is also a heart surgeon, was answering questions about a certain judgment debt involving the Ministry he headed, the Ministry of Finance, and one Apex Pollution Control Company.

Explaining the incident, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng explained that, “The Ministry of Environment had signed an agreement with the company in 2014 to carry out monitoring of vehicle emissions, but the project was not implemented at all. The company claimed it invested $6,613,520.63 in the project and sought a judgment debt. Somebody somewhere decided to engage the company in arbitration for the government, and in addition to its alleged initial investment of $6,613,520.63, offered the company $20,006,226 for a return on investment and $61,627,500 for the loss of income for 13 years. And this came up to a whopping $88,247,246.63. The Apex Pollution Control Company was going to get about $82 million for doing no work. So shocking! To me, there were several irregularities about it. I could see that a huge scandal was staring us right in the face. And I didn’t want to be part of it.”

However seeing “the whole thing” as “too shady”, Prof Frimpong-Boateng said he decided to confront Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta about it. He submitted that Ken Ofori-Atta told him that the then deputy minister for finance, Charles Adu Boahen, was probably behind the whole deal.

“I confronted Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta about it, and he told me Charles Adu Boahen, the then deputy minister for finance, was probably behind it. Soon after some people from the Apex Pollution Control Company came to see me in my office and offered me a US$5 million bribe to approve the judgment debt for them. I rejected it and told them to disappear from my office,” he said.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng said he then “wrote to the president to inform him” of his inability to approve the judgment debt for the Apex Pollution Control Company. however to his dismay, he said,” I did not get any response.”

Although the president’s alleged silence to his report was followed by his dismissal from office, the world class cardio expert made it known that he does not regret any of his actions during this period believing that his decision to reject the bribe was “a natural thing to do.”

“Whoever serves in the president’s administration is his prerogative, so one cannot talk about that. He can fire any minister any time and one must reckon with that. But I am at peace with myself,” he added.

He however expressed his concerns about corruption in the current administration, saying, “I think the president himself will agree that he has not been able to fight corruption. Today, it permeates every sector of this country, and it is getting worse by the day. It’s unfortunate that things have turned up to be this way. The Akufo-Addo who is ruling Ghana today is not the same man that we campaigned for to win the 2016 presidential election. He is not the Akufo-Addo that I knew.”

  • Inflation will be reduced to 15% by end of 2024 – Akufo-Addo

Inflation will be reduced to 15% by end of 2024 – Akufo-Addo

By the end of 2024, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has promised that the government will make every effort to bring inflation down to 15%.

He also expressed hope about the possibility that inflation will decline by the end of 2023.

As of September 2023, the current inflation rate is 38.1 percent.

The President said this during a meeting at Jubilee House with the Christian Council of Ghana.

“The signs are becoming clearer and clearer, the very high rate of inflation that we suffered last year is coming down. By the end of this year, we will be looking at 26.7 percent. By the end of next year, we will bring it down to 15. We have to go down to the single digits,” he stated.

Earlier this week, the President mentioned that despite the nation’s present difficulties, Ghana still has the second-largest economy in West Africa.

Speaking on October 16, 2023, at the presidential breakfast meeting on finance for agriculture and agribusiness in Accra, the president urged banks to expand their lending to the private sector.

He said “The poor credit culture is something we need to look at very seriously in Ghana. To hear the statement that the level of credit that has come from our financial system to our price sector is one of the lowest in West Africa is also a very disturbing phenomenon. We are lower than Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire, and others, all of this is against the background that we are still the second biggest economy in West Africa.”

He noted that although Ghana’s credentials are often forgotten in the continent, the country would fare better if the present rate of credit rose even little.

Akufo-Addo added “There is a tendency for a lot of people to forget that in spite of all the challenges before the Ghanaian economy, we are the second biggest economy in West Africa. Even with that situation if the amount of money that goes from the banks to the private sector is the lowest in West Africa, my mind boggles, that if these figures were to rise a little bit the transformation that it would bring to our GDP growth, so we need to look at that.”

  • Not all elected officials are thieves – Akufo-Addo

Not all elected officials are thieves – Akufo-Addo

The belief that the majority of elected officials are corrupt has been condemned by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

He called on the Christian Council of Ghana to pray for the country, saying that such a belief among Ghanaians is concerning.

According to a report by Myjoyonline.com, the President stated that since not every person elected to office is a thief, the Christian Council should pray for the people’s understanding.

He says that in order for those who understand that to have some hope in leaders, this prayer is required.

When the Right Rev. Dr. Hilliad Della Dogbe, the newly appointed Chairman of the Christian Council, brought a delegation to the Jubilee House to pay him a courtesy call, the President made the call.

He expressed his disappointment with this perception, emphasizing that certain individuals could have achieved more success in the private sector.

President Akufo-Addo also emphasized the importance of instilling hope in the people, reassuring them that there are anti-corruption institutions and agencies working diligently to hold the government accountable.

On the other hand, Right Rev. Dogbe pledged the Christian community’s readiness to pray for God’s guidance and protection for the nation.

  • We are looking at 26.7% inflation by end of 2023 – Akufo-Addo

We are looking at 26.7% inflation by end of 2023 – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has expressed optimism about a decline in the country’s inflation rate by the end of 2023.

He conveyed that the government is implementing measures to rejuvenate the economy and curb inflation during a meeting with the Christian Council of Ghana at the Jubilee House.

His government is working to ensure the country ends the year with an inflation rate of 26.7 percent.

“The signs are becoming clearer and clearer, the very high rate of inflation that we suffered last year is coming down. By the end of this year, we will be looking at 26.7 percent.”

“By the end of next year, we will bring it down to 15. We have to go down to the single digits,” he stated.

In September 2023, the inflation rate declined, decreasing to 38.1% from the August 2023 figure of 40.1%, according to statistics provided by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS).

The data revealed that both food and non-food categories experienced decreases in inflation. Food inflation retreated from 51.9% in August 2023 to 49.4%, while non-food inflation also saw a decline from 30.9% to 29.3% during the same period.

Furthermore, the inflation rate for domestically produced items stood at 37.3%, while imported products carried a slightly higher inflation rate of 39.9%.

For a more short-term perspective, the month-on-month inflation between August 2023 and September 2023 was recorded at 1.9%, indicating a relatively stable inflation trend in the near future.

Professor Samuel Kobina Annim, the Government Statistician, attributed the decline in inflation to the stringent monetary policy measures implemented by the Bank of Ghana.

Four specific divisions recorded inflation rates higher than the national average, which included:

    1. Alcoholic Beverages, Tobacco, and Narcotics at 49.4%.
    2. Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages at 49.4%.
    3. Personal Care, Social Protection, and Miscellaneous Goods and Services at 49.2%.
    4. Furnishings, Household Equipment, and Routine Household Maintenance at an unusually high 544.9%.

Pray for Ghana, we are all not thieves – Akufo-Addo to Christian Council

President Akufo-Addo has urged the Christian Council and the religious community in the nation to come together in prayer for the well-being of the country.

The President also called upon the Council to pray for increased understanding among the people, emphasizing that not every elected leader should be labeled as corrupt.

In his view, such prayers are essential to provide hope to those who can recognize the integrity of their leaders.

President Akufo-Addo made this plea during a meeting with the new Chairman of the Christian Council, Right Rev. Dr. Hilliad Della Dogbe, and his delegation at the Jubilee House.

He expressed his disappointment with the negative perceptions of leadership, highlighting that some of them might have thrived in the private sector.

The President also reassured the public that there are anti-corruption institutions and agencies in place to hold the government accountable.

Right Rev. Dogbe, in response, pledged the Christian community’s readiness to pray for divine guidance and the protection of the nation.

  • “You know you don’t vote for me” – ‘Insensitive’ Akufo-Addo tells victims of Akosomba Dam spillage in Volta Region

“You know you don’t vote for me” – ‘Insensitive’ Akufo-Addo tells victims of Akosomba Dam spillage in Volta Region

President Nana Akufo-Addo’s visit to the communities devastated by the Akosombo Dam spillage, on Tuesday 16th October, 2023 sparked controversy due to remarks he made to the affected residents.

While touring the devastated areas in the Volta Region, particularly in Mepe, the President made remarks that many perceived as insensitive, highlighting the residents’ historical voting patterns against his party.

The Akosombo and Kpong dams’ spillage has caused severe flooding, forcing numerous communities in the northern, southern, and central Tongu districts to evacuate. The repercussions are dire, with significant disruptions at facilities like the Comboni Hospital. Amid this, President Akufo-Addo’s visit was to assure the victims of government support, yet his words stirred a different sentiment.

“When I took the oath of office as president of every single individual in Ghana, of all peoples in Ghana, all districts and whether they voted for me or not, once I have taken the vote, I am the president of the people. So Togbe, you and all your elders, I want the people here, you, beginning with you, and the elders to understand that when something like this happens and government acts, government is acting for Ghanaians, all Ghanaians. I came here because Ghanaians are suffering and it is my responsibility to try and help. Because if it is a question of counting who votes for me and who doesn’t vote for me, I shouldn’t be here, because you don’t vote for me. But that is not my concern and in any event, one day you will vote for me and my party,” the President stated.

The President then urged for the depoliticisation of such tragic events, emphasising his role as a leader for all Ghanaians, irrespective of political affiliations.

These remarks, especially the reference to the residents’ voting preferences, have drawn heavy criticism from the public. The flood victims, already grappling with their losses, found the mention of their past electoral choices to be out of place and untimely, considering their current plight.

In light of the crisis, the President had outlined several relief measures, including the formation of an inter-ministerial committee and the provision of relief items through NADMO. He emphasised his role as a leader bound to serve all constituents, irrespective of political affiliations, urging for depoliticisation of the tragedy.

He also extended his sympathies and assured the victims of the government’s commitment to addressing the calamity.

“My visit here is to come and sympathise and commiserate with you about the tragedy that has occurred,” he stated. He referenced a conversation with his Chief of Staff while in America, leading to the formation of an inter-ministerial committee to spearhead the government’s response to the crisis.

The President also announced the establishment of nine safe havens in Mepe for the displaced, confirming the continuous provision of relief items by the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

He also touched on the agricultural impact, assuring collaboration between the Ministry of Finance, Food and Agriculture, and his office to develop comprehensive solutions for the affected farmlands.

However, the public’s response to his visit has been overshadowed by his controversial statement, with many accusing him of tribalism and insensitivity. Social media platforms, particularly Twitter, saw an outpouring of criticism with users expressing disappointment and citing the President’s words as unfortunate during such a calamity.

His remarks, particularly the reference to the voting patterns of the residents, have been received with mixed reactions, with some viewing them as an unnecessary focus on politics in a time of disaster. Despite the assurance, the nuances of his statements raise questions about the broader political dynamics at play in times of crisis.

  • Akufo-Addo petitioned over MMDCEs’ salary arrears

Akufo-Addo petitioned over MMDCEs’ salary arrears

A collective identified as the ‘Coalition of Immediate Past MMDCEs‘ has submitted a petition to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, expressing their concerns regarding the perceived delay in receiving salary differentials.

According to a statement released by the group, the former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) who recently left their positions have not yet received their accumulated salary differentials for the four-year period they served the government.

The statement, bearing the signature of Mr. Leo-Nelson Adzidogah, the group’s leader and a former MCE for Akatsi South, highlights their unease with this matter, despite having fulfilled all the necessary obligations as per the guidelines provided to them.

“Your Excellency, with the greatest respect, we the immediate past MMDCEs deem it expedient to draw your high attention to the delay in the payment of our salary differentials which accumulated over the four years 2017 to 2021 that we conscientiously served your government.”

“Mr. President, since we wrote a letter of request for payment of the salary differentials, we have been told to prove whether we deserve the claim we are making.”

“We find it extremely unpleasant to draw the attention of your officials to the payment your government made to the NDC MMDCEs who left office in 2017,” the statement read.

They further argued that the NPP government paid other former MMDCEs under the NDC regime promptly, which showed the mark of a responsible government “but when it is now the turn of your appointees, the immediate past MMDCEs, your officials in charge of MMDCEs are exhibiting irritating reluctance to pay us.”

The statement further elucidated that the slow and hesitant process of disbursing payments to the MMDCEs was significantly impeding their strong commitment to actively contribute to securing victory in the 2024 elections.

“Your Excellency, we are now experiencing severe hardship with our families. It is difficult to survive as we have nothing to live on. The inability to accord a modicum of respect to the former MMDCEs of this government is very much irritating, worrying, and disappointing.”

They are therefore, humbly appealing to the President for his timely intervention, saying “We do not want the issue to get out of hand with the delay.”

  • You ‘wasted our time kwa’; we cannot recognise Ghana – Franklin Cudjoe tells Akufo-Addo

You ‘wasted our time kwa’; we cannot recognise Ghana – Franklin Cudjoe tells Akufo-Addo

Head of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has criticised President Nana Akufo-Addo’s for failing to fulfill his 2016 promise to bring about transformation in Ghana.

“I will change Ghana in 18 months if you vote for me,” then-candidate Akufo-Addo declared in November 2016 at the height of the election campaign.

Akufo-Addo subsequently won the election, unseating the incumbent, John Dramani Mahama, and securing his first term. He later secured a victory over Mahama in the 2020 elections, marking his final term, which concludes in 2025.

Mr Cudjoe believes that in President Akufo-Addo’s two terms in office, his leadership has been unproductive and has not lived up to its potential.

While sharing a screenshot of Akufo-Addo’s 2016 pledge, he noted that the president has wasted the time of Ghanaians and exacerbated the challenges faced under the Mahama-led administration.

“Of course, he has delivered. Changed Ghana from what we could live with to what we cannot even recognise. Just wasted our time kwa.”

For about two years, the state of the economy has become a prominent and concerning subject, marked by a downturn characterized by soaring inflation, a devaluing currency, a general decline in living standards, and the burden of a high cost of living.

The government has consistently attributed these economic challenges to the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. As a response, the government secured a $3 billion IMF loan last year, with the first installment of $600 million already deposited into the government’s account.

  • Our support is for Israel and Ukraine – Akufo-Addo

Our support is for Israel and Ukraine – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed Ghana’s steadfast support for Israel and Ukraine during what he described as “difficult moments of their national survival.”

He pointed out that the consequences of Hamas’ aggressive actions in Israel, along with their wider impact on peace in the Middle East, have added to the already complex global development challenges.

“Ladies and gentlemen, there should be no disagreement about the intensity and scale of the challenges that confront our world, and the urgent need to address them,” the President stated.

Speaking at the headquarters of the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) in Washington D.C., the President emphasized the imperative for nations to champion freedom, democracy, and security.

Ghana, a long-standing democratic nation in West Africa, holds a prominent role as a regional leader and a vital member of the West African regional bloc, ECOWAS.

In light of the growing wave of extra-constitutional movements and increasing political instability in sub-Saharan Africa, the United States and its partners are exploring strategies to offer the best possible support to Ghana and other established democracies in the region, with the aim of fostering and sustaining democracy as a governance model.

The discussions with President Nana Akufo-Addo at USIP will also delve into Ghana’s crucial role as a regional leader in promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development. The meeting will address a range of topics, including Ghana’s contributions to peace in West Africa, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and regional security matters in the Pacific Islands, among other subjects.

President Nana Akufo-Addo, in his address, pointed out that the world was in turmoil, and “we are confronted with perilous situations”.

“Terrorism and violent extremism, climate change, food insecurity, political instability in parts of Africa, post-election violence, health pandemics energy crises, rising commodity prices, geo-political tensions, the conflicts in the Middle East, and the needless war in Ukraine, amongst others, have weakened the foundational pillars of multilateralism,” he lamented.

He argued that the world was operating in the most challenging and difficult of times.

“The interlocking challenges and the convergence of crises we face post existential threats that require our immediate solidarity and collective actions,” he advised.

  • Your achievements are overshadowed by mountains of debt – Seth Terkper to Akufo-Addo

Your achievements are overshadowed by mountains of debt – Seth Terkper to Akufo-Addo

Former Finance Minister Seth Terkper has strongly criticized President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s claims about his government’s unparalleled achievements and investments in the education sector during the fourth republic.

In a tweet spotted by GhanaWeb Business, Mr. Terkper countered by highlighting that what truly stands out in the fourth republic is the debt restructuring carried out by the ruling New Patriotic Party under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s leadership.

Mr. Terkper pointed out that the accumulation of domestic and external debt would place a substantial burden on both current Ghanaians and future generations.

He argued that Akufo-Addo’s perceived success can be largely attributed to the substantial amount of loans acquired by his administration.

“With all due respect, assets match liabilities, with the apparent success sitting on a pile of loans. In reality, what seems unmatched in the 4th Republic is a default & exchange/restructuring of our domestic/external debt that could burden present & future generations beyond 2040,” Seth Terkper wrote in his tweet.

During the 61st Annual Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) at Achimota School in Accra on October 11, 2023, President Akufo-Addo highlighted his administration’s accomplishments in the education sector. He emphasized his government’s steadfast dedication to education, which has resulted in substantial advancements in terms of accessibility, quality, and pertinence, positioning Ghana as a leading example of progress in the region.

Furthermore, President Akufo-Addo asserted that his government’s achievements and investments in the education sector have set an unparalleled standard within the context of the fourth republic.

  • Akufo-Addo urges UK, U.S. and EU to provide ECOWAS with resources in the fight against terrorism

Akufo-Addo urges UK, U.S. and EU to provide ECOWAS with resources in the fight against terrorism

The President Akufo-Addo, has appealed to global leaders to fully implement the provisions of Chapters Seven and Eight of the UN Charter and provide Africa with proportionate support in its battle against terrorism and violent extremism.

President Akufo-Addo emphasized that despite the considerable economic challenges faced by ECOWAS Member States, eleven of the fifteen Member States, following the suspension of the four military-led states, have expressed their readiness to confront terrorists with greater empowerment.

He noted a stark contrast in international support, highlighting the substantial aid provided to Ukraine in the face of the Russian war. In comparison, the security assistance extended to ECOWAS by the US, EU, and UK has amounted to a relatively meager US$29.6 million.

“Comparisons, they say, are odious, but some cannot be ignored. The Russian war on Ukraine has elicited, according to my information, some US$73.6 billion in American support for Ukraine, US$138.8 billion from the European Union and its Institutions, and US$14.5 billion from the United Kingdom,” he said.

With adequate support for ECOWAS, President Akufo-Addo expressed confidence that West African troops, without foreign intervention, could effectively combat terrorism in the region, as demonstrated by the Accra Initiative, showcasing indigenous self-reliance.

The President made these remarks during his speech on “Democracy and Security in West Africa” at the United States Institute of Peace’s Programme on Governance and Peace in Washington D.C., USA on October 12, 2023.

President Akufo-Addo explained the emergence of terrorists in West Africa, tracing their path from the Middle East and Afghanistan to Libya following Muammar Gaddafi’s downfall and their subsequent spread across the Sahara into northern Mali.

He highlighted the increasing displacement of populations in the Sahel due to the insecurity caused by these armed groups, emphasizing that Africa has become a focal point for terrorist organizations seeking refuge after setbacks in other parts of the world.

Acknowledging the success achieved in the fight against terrorism, the President pointed out that the disproportionate impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on developing countries has left many regions, particularly in the Sahel, facing severe economic challenges.

He stressed the urgency of working together in the spirit of multilateralism to address these pressing issues and maintain global peace and democracy. Failure to renew such commitments, he warned, would lead to a more perilous world in the present and future.

Akufo-Addo has changed; he is not the one I went on demonstrations with – Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe

Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed his deep disappointment with President Akufo-Addo, stating that he believes the President has let down the people of Ghana.

He emphasized that the President he once knew and engaged with on matters of national significance is not the same person occupying the presidential office today.

Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe pointed out that the President, who had a strong aversion to corruption in the past, is now presiding over blatant corruption and nepotism.

During a press conference organized by ex-military officers under the theme “The State of Ghana Today” on Wednesday, October 11, the former GFA President called upon the President to take more proactive actions.

“These are critical warning signs going to destroy the security of the state. We need to pay critical attention to this.”

“The Akufo-Addo I knew and had numerous dialogues and demonstrations with is not the Akufo-Addo who is now president.”

He strongly criticized government officials who are alleged to be hoarding substantial sums of money in their residences. Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe emphasized that failing to promptly address this issue could result in undesirable consequences.

He asserted that the youth are dissatisfied with the prevailing circumstances in the country, and it is imperative to acknowledge and respond to their concerns.

“In the old age of ours we don’t sleep soundly at night. Ghana has been riddled with perceived corruption of political public office holders amassing unexplained wealth, tribalism, nepotism and parochial in their interest, especially under this regime under President Akufo-Addo.”

“How do Ministers hoard stashes of cash in foreign and local currencies in their homes, acquire properties in prime areas of Accra and other parts of the country, drive the most luxurious cars and live extravagantly and expect our youth who remain largely without meaningful employment to be satisfied.”

Additionally, approximately 1,270 infrastructure initiatives at the basic level have been executed through the Ghana Education Trust (GET) Fund to enhance early childhood education standards.

“I am pleased to report that a substantial number of these projects are nearing completion, and by early 2024, they will be fully operational,” he said.

In discussing the strides made in reshaping education at the Junior High School (JHS) level, President Nana Akufo-Addo highlighted the development of 11 model schools located throughout the nation. These schools are set to be equipped with contemporary facilities to create an ideal learning environment, with the goal of achieving significant educational outcomes upon their completion.

He also delved into the Ghana National Digital Literacy Project, underscoring its purpose, which is to ensure that every student is well-prepared to excel in the global digital economy.

“The heart of this endeavour lies in our primary schools – where the foundation of learning is laid,” he said.

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education, commended CHASS for being a valuable collaborator with the Government in the pursuit of the nation’s educational objectives.

He assured that the authorities would supply schools with the necessary incentives and resources to enhance academic performance.

Dr. Adutwum emphasized that for Ghana to actively participate in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, it was crucial to have dynamic and suitable educational policies in place.

Therefore, he praised the leadership of President Nana Akufo-Addo for implementing the ‘Free SHS’ program and their unwavering commitment to improving access to quality education.

The Conference was held on the theme: “61 Years of Shaping Second-Cycle Education in Ghana: The Challenges and Successes in Contemporary Times”. It discussed Ghana’s educational policies, successes and challenges.

National Service Scheme to be transformed into an Authority – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has affirmed his administration’s commitment to raise the National Service Scheme (NSS) to the status of an Authority.

He made this announcement at the 50th-anniversary celebration of the NSS, held at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra.

During his speech, President Akufo-Addo revealed that a draft policy document is currently in development and will soon be presented to Parliament.

This document will guide the scheme’s implementation and is a significant step forward as it marks the first time such a policy document will be presented in the NSS’s history.

Additionally, a draft Bill will be presented to Parliament for consideration, aiming to transition the NSS into an Authority.

This transformation will provide a legal framework for the employment of e-models, with a model called “deployment for employment” as part of the transition.

The President acknowledged the various youth programs established by his government under the NSS to harness the potential of young graduates and address their specific employment needs.

He emphasized the scheme’s role in creating a positive impact and contributing to the nation’s development.

President Akufo-Addo also highlighted the financial restructuring of the NSS and praised its leadership for their significant contributions over the years.

He disclosed that the scheme would create 81,000 jobs in the agricultural and allied sectors through the economic enclave program over the next four years.

This initiative will involve deploying 65,000 graduate youths to agricultural enclaves, developing 20,000 hectares of land for production, producing 110,000 metric tons of food, and generating revenue of approximately $92 million by the end of the year.

LGBTQ: Ken Agyapong labels it as “nonsense”

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong has stated his stance on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex (LGBTQI+) activities.

According to him, such practises have no place within the confines of his household.

Speaking in an interview on Starr FM on October 5, 2023, Kennedy Agyapong posited that he is a traditionalist, and as a result, such activities contradict his standards.

He was asked by host Bola Ray: “If one of your children comes over to you and says he or she now identifies as gay, what will be your reaction or response?”

Ken responded, “Look, I am a traditionalist. I don’t want to hear that nonsense.”

When asked to repeat his response, Agyapong reinforced his stance by reiterating, “I am a traditionist, case closed.”

“So, if they should come to you and identify as gay?” The host asked again.

To this, Agyapong responded with a tone of finality, “You dare not, case closed. I am a traditionalist; you dare not.”

In Ghana, there is significant public support for LGBTQ+ practises, even as an anti-gay bill aiming to criminalise LGBTQ+ activities is currently under consideration by the Ghanaian parliament.

Kennedy Agyapong is set to compete for the flagbearership alongside three other contenders: Dr. Bawumia, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimoh.

The NPP has scheduled November 4, 2023, as the date to choose a successor to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the party’s leader.

EC, Akufo-Addo getting ready for a highly contentious political battle in 2024 – Joshua Alabi

Former National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Joshua Alabi, has expressed apprehensions regarding the forthcoming 2024 elections.

He has implied that President Nana Akufo-Addo and the Electoral Commission (EC) are gearing up for a highly contentious struggle to maintain their grip on power.

In his view, the actions and stances of both the president and the EC suggest that they may engage in aggressive tactics during the elections.

Furthermore, Professor Alabi, an experienced politician and academic, has urged the youth to actively participate in shaping Ghana’s future, underscoring their potential to drive substantial change in the country.

“At the same time, the president’s actions, pronouncements, and excuses coupled with the posture of the electoral commissioner suggest that they are not prepared to give up power easily. They are prepared for a very dirty fight.

“This, therefore, marks the beginning of a powerful journey followed by passion and energy for our youth, the force that has the potential to reshape the very fabric of our party and the nation as a whole. Comrades, you are not merely the future; you are the driving force of the present.”

Professor Alabi also touched upon the prevailing economic difficulties confronting Ghana and the responsibility of political leadership in tackling these issues.

He alluded to President Akufo-Addo’s remarks regarding the government’s purported incapacity to resolve the economic challenges it had allegedly generated.

In his view, the president’s statement serves as an indication to the NDC that they have an opportunity to seize power in the upcoming 2024 elections.

“The president has told the whole nation that he and his team are not capable of solving the economic mess that they have created and if his favourite candidate and possibly their flagbearer is a member of his team, then the signal is that Ghanaians must wait for the NDC.

“Bawumia is going to be the flagbearer and Bawumia is a member of his team, so what he is telling us is that wait for the NDC,” he added.

I said it on the other show. Today, I don’t think the president is sleeping. I think he’s having sleepless nights with whatever is going on,” said Sonnie Badu.

He further urged the youth to let honesty prevail and work hard to help overcome the economic challenges and ameliorate the plights of people.

“But let’s also help ourselves. Let’s start networking and working together. Let’s walk in honesty; let’s walk in truth. When somebody gives you something, make sure you’re honest about it. I’ve heard so many stories; in the secular, I know everything,” Sonnie Badu told Berla Mundi.

Akufo-Addo highlighted that democracy and the stability it brings are crucial for the future prosperity of the African continent. President Mohamed Bazoum remains in the custody of the former presidential guard.

  • ‘Akufo-Addo is a scam’ – Namoale

Former Member of Parliament (MP) for La-Dadekotopon, Nii Amasah Namoale has accused the President, Nana Akufo-Addo of destroying the fortunes of this country and the NPP party.

Speaking on Angel Morning show hosted by Okatakyie Afrifa -Mensah on Monday, October 2, 2023, the former National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP accused President Akufo-Addo of being the cause of the current commotion in the rank and file of the ruling party.

“The commotion in the party was all caused by Nana Akuffo Addo…he should be blamed for all these happenings in the party”,he said.

The ex-NPP MP accused President Akufo-Addo of failing to help pursue the visions of the party’s predecessors.

He later advised the NPP to prepare themselves to embrace defeat in a genuine way.

  • Akufo-Addo’s 2016 campaign promise to put an end to sole sourcing revisited

In Akufo-Addo’s 2016 presidential campaign, he assured Ghanaians that if elected, government projects and contracts would no longer be exclusively awarded through sole sourcing.

He emphatically declared an end to the era of sole sourcing.

This statement resurfaced amidst ongoing discussions about the government predominantly opting for sole sourcing in contract awards.

Notably, the Ghana Revenue Authority faced criticism on Twitter for awarding contracts through sole sourcing for items like office curtains, furniture, and notepad diaries.

See details of some of the contracts below:

    Supply of Office Furniture

    Contract Award Price – GH¢1,767,846.60
    Contract Type – Single Sourced
Contract Awarded to – Sams Firma Ltd

The primary issues made about contract awarding have been over the use of sole sourcing because the items do not meet the criteria for sole sourcing.

The Public Procurement Authority acknowledges the following arguments for sole sourcing, according to the PPA:

    (a) Where goods, works or services are only available from a particular supplier or contractor, or if a particular supplier or contractor has exclusive rights in respect of the goods, works, or services, and no reasonable alternative or substitute exists;

    (b) Where there is an urgent need for the goods, works, or services and engaging in tender proceedings or any other method of procurement is impractical due to unforeseeable circumstances giving rise to the urgency which is not the result of dilatory conduct on the part of the procurement entity;

    (c) Where owing to a catastrophic event, there is an urgent need for the goods, works, or technical services, making it impractical to use other methods of procurement because of the time involved in using those methods.

President Akufo-Addo has paid tribute to the late Enoch Teye Mensah, a former Minister of State and Council of State Member, expressing that he served as a valuable source of advice during his time in office.

“I have lost a good friend,” the president mourned in a statement issued on Tuesday, October 03.

“The death of a friend of long standing brings up so many emotions – grief, sense of loss, sadness, reflections on friendship, reminiscences on a generation, the stark reality of mortality, the prospects of eternity, the presence of the Living God.”

“Even though we were on different sides in the House, he became a very good friend right till the very end,” President Nana Akufo-Addo noted.

In the tribute, the late ET Mensah was characterized as a warm, generous individual with a gregarious nature, sharp intellect, and an enchanting sense of humor.

“Mama Theresa, as she was affectionately called, was a devoted companion of President Kufuor throughout their sixty-one (61) years of marriage. She was an invaluable and constant source of advice, encouragement and prayers for him.

“Member of a well-known family from Odumase, in the Bono Region, sister of the renowned statesman, the late J.H Mensah, and aunt of President Kufuor’s Secretary, the brilliant diplomat, Ambassador D.K Osei, she was politically astute and was a major contributor to her husband’s political success. She was a composed and articulate First Lady, a polyglot, fluent in several languages including Ewe, who brought great dignity to the position.

He continued “I knew several members of her family, especially her celebrated brother, and I am grateful that I had the opportunity to know her too.

  • Akufo-Addo has done very well – Diana Asamoah fires critics

Ghanaian Gospel musician Diana Asamoah has described the criticism hurled at President Akufo-Addo over the running of the economy as baseless.

Some members of the general public have called for the resignation of President Akufo-Addo over the economic challenges being faced.

During an appearance on UTV’s United Showbiz over the weekend, she expressed contentment over the management of the taxpayers’ money.

According to her, under the administration of President Akufo-Addo, Ghanaian students have benefited from the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme.

“My father did well. That sister, you say you are in the NPP, but you dirty the party. My President, Akufo-Addo, he has provided free education. You know what, he has done well. My father, he is my everything.

“He has done so well. You must stop the unfounded criticism,” she said in Twi.

Meanwhile, the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has called for an urgent national stakeholder dialogue to relook at the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme in relation to the country’s current economic situation.

The Free SHS programme was introduced in September, 2017.

  • Ghana poised to lead in medical care across West Africa by 2030 – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has articulated the government’s aspiration to establish Ghana as the primary hub for medical excellence within the West African sub-region by the year 2030.

President Akufo-Addo expressed confidence in achieving this vision, underlining Ghana’s abundant skilled workforce and ongoing investments in healthcare infrastructure nationwide, exemplified by Agenda 111.

These remarks were made during the inauguration of the St Michael’s Specialist Hospital (SMSH) in Lapaz, a suburb of Accra. President Akufo-Addo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to substantial investments in the healthcare sector and reiterated support for private sector initiatives.

Michael Banahene, Chairman of St Michael’s Specialist Hospital’s Board, lauded the Akufo-Addo administration for its contributions toward realizing the hospital’s vision.

He further highlighted that the St. Michael’s Specialist Hospital would eventually employ around 600 Ghanaian staff at full capacity.

Former President John Agyekum Kufour expressed immense pride in his grand nephew’s accomplishments, particularly considering the substantial time taken to complete the hospital project.

He also commended the hospital’s adoption of high international standards to deliver efficient healthcare services to the people of Ghana and beyond.

  • Govt turned to IMF because Akufo-Addo’s economy was falling – Alan Kyerematen

Former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen stated that Ghana had no choice but to seek assistance from the International Monetary Fund.

He claims that because Ghana’s debt levels had surged and the country’s international reserves at the Central Bank were depleted, it was critical that the country have some cushion.

“We went to the IMF, and they agreed to have a package of support for us. Part of the condition was for us to reduce our debt-to-GDP ratio from 105% to 55%. The condition to expect from you to be able to enjoy a bailout is for you to bring your debt to sustainable levels.

It was clear that as a country, we had overextended ourselves. However, if we had prioritized my recommendations for industrialization and the kinds of things I’m talking about today in my GTP, we would have laid the groundwork for a resilient economy,” he remarked.

Alan Kyerematen admitted that the Russian-Ukraine war and COVID-19 have long-term consequences for Ghana’s economy.

“These two external factors exposed the structural vulnerabilities in our economy. There are matured economies that suffered the impact of the same external shocks but were able to deal with the shock much better because they have resilient economies.

“In our case the fact that we are not exporting enough and producing enough, the fact that we end up importing all the things we can produce in this country creates a certain challenge for our economy to withstand external shocks.”

  • Investigate Akufo-Addo, appointees or face my wrath – Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe tells next president

A retired military officer and ambassador, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has called for a thorough investigation into allegations of financial misconduct within the Akufo-Addo government and among its appointed officials.

As a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a consistent critic of president Akufo-Addo, Nyaho-Tamakloe alleged that the current economic state of the country is a direct result of funds being illicitly diverted by officials within this government.

He emphasized the importance of holding those who have served in the Akufo-Addo government accountable for their actions, including a thorough examination of their financial records to ascertain any funds moved outside the country.

In an interview with the media, Nyaho-Tamakloe stated, “If the new leader fails to do this, he will be my number one enemy because the amounts of money siphoned out of this country are enormous, and this has contributed to the current state we are in.”

Following Alan Kyerematen’s resignation from the NPP, Nyaho-Tamakloe has intensified his criticism of the government this week, partly attributing the state of affairs to the president’s firm grip on the governing party.

  • How African-American artiste portrayed Akufo-Addo in painting for African presidential exhibition

Kehinde Wiley, the renowned African-American artist known for officially painting former US President Barack Obama in 2018, has recently unveiled a series of paintings featuring several sitting and former African heads of state.

Notably, one of his subjects was Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of Ghana at the time.

In President Akufo-Addo’s portrait, he is depicted wearing colorful kente cloth, seated on a chair adorned with the national coat of arms. His posture is contemplative, with his right hand resting on his knee and his left hand grasping a gold-plated walking stick.

Among the other African presidents included in this collection are Ethiopia’s President Sahle-Work Zewde, Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso of the Republic of Congo, Macky Sall of Senegal, and Faure Gnassingbe of Togo. Former presidents featured in the paintings include Nigeria’s Olusegun Obasanjo and Alpha Conde of Guinea.

This remarkable exhibition, titled “A Maze of Power,” is currently on display at the Musée du Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac in Paris, France, and is set to run until January 2024.

The artist spent a decade working on these portraits, during which he traveled extensively throughout Africa, engaging with various leaders.

These interactions and discussions focused on themes such as the history of aristocratic, royal, and military portraiture in 17th to 19th Century Europe.

Wiley used these conversations to inform his artwork, creating compositions that capture each leader’s unique perspective on contemporary African leadership.

“This is a look at the presidency itself. This is an invitation for the viewer to expand the possibilities of what it means to look at art in Africa, about Africa, and about power.”

  • Condemn extension of term limits by some African leaders – Akufo-Addo to ECOWAS

President Akufo-Addo has urged the members of the ECOWAS Parliament to vocalize their opposition to the practice of leaders extending presidential term limits as a means to consolidate their authority.

According to President Akufo-Addo, “these actions tend to result in discontent amongst the populace, which create fertile grounds on which military interventions disingenuously feed.”

Adherence to this, he said, will ensure that we don’t “give up when it comes to guaranteeing the democratic integrity of our respective countries, where we should have governance systems based on the separation of powers, which are free from corruption and are respectful of the rule of law, individual liberties, human rights, the principles of democratic accountability and social justice.”

President Akufo-Addo delivered his speech at the 2nd ECOWAS Parliamentary Seminar held in Winneba on Friday, September 29, 2023. The seminar revolved around the theme, “Challenges Relating to Unconstitutional Changes of Government and Presidential Term Limits in West Africa – Role of the ECOWAS Parliament.”

Based on the theme, the President charged them to “propose measures to ensure the anchoring of democratic and republican values, both at the level of political elites and citizens of the Community. This would help towards preserving the peace and stability of the region.”

He suggested that “any attempt at the manipulation of opinion and of the rules of the democratic game for partisan political ends always leads to a loss of legitimacy, which is reflected in the social tensions it creates.”

Continuing, he stated that, “the attempted confiscation of democracy by elites, who engage, through legal antics, in the manipulation of constitutional rules and the subjugation of the institutions of the Republic with the sole aim of remaining in power.”

He opined further that, “it is also important to remind us that democracy is not, as some would have us believe, a western concept, but, rather, a universal concept of general application.”

He asked the August house to ensure there is “no backsliding in support for democratic values anchored on the promotion of the rule of law and respect for human rights.

“And when the coups do happen, we must insist on the shortest period of the transition process, especially in the Sahel, where the military, having tasted power, appear reluctant to restore democratic rule.”

“The history of the world, including that of Africa, testifies that the process of electing and installing leaders in democratic circumstances provides the best form of governance.

“The great British wartime leader, Winston Spencer Churchill, it was who said “democracy is the worst form of governance, except for all the others”.

“Modern history has taught us that tyranny, oppression, and totalitarian government do not last long. No matter how a people apparently reject democracy and civil liberty, circumstances would always force them back to embrace them,” he added.

Concluding, he said, “Out of duty towards our children and grandchildren, we must not give up when it comes to guaranteeing the democratic integrity of our respective countries, where we should have governance systems based on the separation of powers, which are free from corruption and are respectful of the rule of law, individual liberties, human rights, the principles of democratic accountability and social justice.”

  • Our democracy in danger – Akufo-Addo to ECOWAS Parliament

President Akufo-Addo has called on members of the ECOWAS Parliament to address emerging threats to democracy in the region.

Speaking at the 2nd ECOWAS Parliamentary Seminar in Winneba, he identified three major threats: the attempted confiscation of democracy by elites through manipulation of constitutional rules, the re-militarization of governance, and the desire of terrorist groups and armed criminal gangs to undermine democracy.

President Akufo-Addo expressed concern over the serious threats to democracy in West Africa, emphasizing the need to reinforce democratic accountability.

“democracy in West Africa is in danger”, thus the regional fraternity “must work even harder to entrench the principles of democratic accountability in the citizenry.”

“The attempted confiscation of democracy by elites, who engage, through legal antics, in the manipulation of constitutional rules and the subjugation of the institutions of the Republic with the sole aim of remaining in power.”

“The emerging re-militarisation of governance with the intrusion, once again, of the military on the political scene, who have neither consulted, nor received any mandate from, the people on whose behalf they purport to act,” he added.

He highlighted that democracy had been subverted by elites seeking to remain in power, the intrusion of the military into politics without a mandate, and the actions of terrorist groups aiming to disrupt democratic stability.

President Akufo-Addo cited Winston Churchill’s quote that “democracy is the worst form of governance, except for all the others.” He stressed that history had shown that tyranny, oppression, and totalitarian government were unsustainable, eventually leading to the embrace of democracy and civil liberty.

Acknowledging the challenging economic, political, social, and security situation in the region, President Akufo-Addo noted a decline in democratic credentials.

He mentioned that four ECOWAS member states were currently led by military governments due to coups d’états, causing anxiety and instability. He also expressed concern about violence and disputes during elections.

President Akufo-Addo called on ECOWAS legislators to better understand the root causes of democratic regression and political instability.

He urged them to speak out against leaders extending presidential term limits for partisan purposes, as such actions often led to discontent and provided fertile ground for military interventions.

  • Akufo-Addo doesn’t believe in freedom, all senior NPP members are mute – Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe

A founding member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has accused President Akufo-Addo of infringing on the rights and freedoms of citizens.

He noted that even senior members of the party are not able to condemn the actions of the president owing to they being afraid of him, a sentiment Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe says he does not share.

Addressing the noticeable reticence of senior members within the NPP regarding party matters, he singled out Kwame Pianim, a former government official from the party, as one of the exceptions who have voiced their opinions.

While acknowledging that the elder members may have their valid justifications for maintaining their silence, he underscored that he personally harbored no fear in openly articulating his concerns.

“Our party was not like this and as I speak now, all the senior people in the party, the elderly people in the party are mute. I know what is happening that we have aligned Akufo-Addo to One District One Factory as his own personal property, how.

“The motto of the party is Development in Freedom, without freedom, there’s no NPP,” he stressed.

He continued: “I’m not afraid of Akufo-Addo, no because Akufo-Addo made me understand that the fight for this country is a fight for freedom and that was why I was close to him but I have seen that he himself doesn’t believe in freedom.

“If he believes in freedom, we wouldn’t be where we are today,” he stressed.

According to him, the ruling party has placed communicators in various media outlets to defend the “wrongs” of the government.

  • Video: Ghana’s economy sinking like The Titanic

Over the past two years, the government of Ghana has grappled with salvaging its economy from a crisis characterized by the worsening of the local currency against foreign counterparts such as the dollar and pound.

The weakening of the cedi has exacerbated the country’s inflation, interest rate, price of fuel products, among others.

This article analyses a visual representation on the current state of Ghana’s economy. The video shows the Ghana map, all cracked up and being dragged down by the dollar, pound and euro (serving as the anchor), sinking close to what looks like The Titanic ship.

Individuals try to save their lives by staying on the ship while others hold on to a rope. Others seek safety from an aeroplane. Unfortunately, some fall and drown.

A character that looks like President Akufo-Addo stands at the very top of the Ghana map with two others to receive assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

An animated Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President, looks at the situation with so much pain from above. He is disheartened by the current conditions.

  • Alan reveals why he stormed Akufo-Addo’s house

Former presidential aspirant for the New Patriotic Party, Alan Kyerematen, has disclosed that he contacted President Akufo-Addo prior to his resignation from his role as Trade Minister during his second term in office.

On January 6, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen resigned from his position as Minister for Trade and Industry. He served in the portfolio since 2017. He left the position to pursue his presidential ambitions.

In an interview on UTV, the founder of the Movement for Change noted that he personally visited President Akufo-Addo at his residence to communicate his intentions so as to safeguard the president’s legacy.

According to him, the President welcomed his resolution to exit his government.

“When I was about to resign from government I informed him, I told him, big brother this is all the help I can give. Please, I am excusing myself from the position, and this is why I am doing so and he was cool with that, before I even a letter to him. I have a good relationship with him.

“I intentionally went back to him, asking him to understand that living government to contest that I am doing that to protect his legacy. So I don’t have issues with him,” he said.

On September 25, Mr Kyerematen announced his resignation from the ruling party during a press conference, where he revealed that he would be contesting the 2024 presidential elections as an independent candidate.

Following this, the New Patriotic Party, during a press conference moderated by its General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, disclosed that Mr Kyerematen failed to inform the party of his intentions ahead of this significant move.

According to Mr Kyerematen, he found no need to inform the party of his decision as he is an independent individual capable of making rational decisions.

“I went to a contest, and after my review of the contest, I decided to exit the party. I don’t have to inform anyone.

“I am an established man, and I don’t take instructions from people. I might look younger, but I’m an elderly man,” he said on Accra-based UTV.

  • You will not go scot-free; you will pay the price – Prophet Kofi Oduro to Akufo-Addo

The founder of Alabaster International Ministries, Prophet Kofi Oduro, has noted that President Akufo-Addo and his appointees will not evade the repercussions of their actions, which have left many citizens in distress and crippled the country’s economy.

During a recent sermon, Prophet Oduro accused government officials of embezzling taxpayers’ money.

“I don’t care who you are; I presented it as it is. Tell them they will never go scot-free. Anybody here who has spent people’s money, you will pay; take it from me, you will pay the price. I am telling you the mind of God,” he declared.

He also made a startling revelation with regards to President Akufo-Addo and the Jubilee House.

According to him, the divine presence of God has departed from these political entities.

“Tell Jubilee House the Lord is against you, tell Jubilee House judgment is on your head, tell Akufo-Addo you are under judgment, tell him. I have told you the mind of God…the one who sent me has given me a message.”

He added: “Don’t you know when God is with somebody? If God is with someone, those people don’t go through madness; it has been a long time since God has forsaken you, people. I am telling you.”

  • God is against Akufo-Addo and the Jubilee House – Prophet Kofi Oduro

Founder of Alabaster International Ministries, Prophet Kofi Oduro, is of the firm assertion that the presence of God has departed from both the present government and its opposition party in Ghana.

During one of his sermons, Prophet Oduro expressed his conviction that this divine absence is evident in what he characterized as “irrational behavior” displayed by those in positions of power.

He stressed the notion that the presence of God becomes unmistakably apparent when it guides the actions of individuals or governments, leading them to align with divine principles.

However, he argued that the current political landscape in Ghana appears to indicate otherwise, suggesting a lack of divine influence on the decision-making processes of those in power.

In his sermon, Prophet Oduro stated, “How can anybody tell this present government or their opposition, that God is with them? Who has the boldness to talk that nonsense? God is with them?

“Don’t you know when God is with somebody? If God is with someone, those people don’t go through madness; it has been a long time since God has forsaken you, people. I am telling you.”

The religious leader proceeded to deliver a message of divine judgment, specifically targeting the highest office of the presidency, Jubilee House, and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

He confidently stated that they would not be exempt from facing the repercussions of their actions and choices.

“Tell Jubilee House the Lord is against you, tell Jubilee House judgment is on your head, tell Akufo-Addo you are under judgment, tell him. I have told you the mind of God…the one who sent me has given me a message.

“I don’t care who you are; I presented it as it is. Tell them they will never go scot-free. Anybody here who has spent people’s money, you will pay; take it from me, you will pay the price. I am telling you the mind of God,” he declared.

  • Let’s break free from West dependency – Akufo-Addo to African leaders

Let’s break free from West dependency – Akufo-Addo to African leaders

President Akufo-Addo, has encouraged Global Africans to invest in Africa, particularly highlighting the significance of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

He noted that the AfCFTA presented an opportunity for the continent to attract investments for industrial development and transformation.

“Like the vision of our forebears, the AfCFTA sets the stage for Africa’s industrialization and transformation. What is required now is for our respective governments and businesses to show bold leadership. We need coherent and complimentary strategic actions by governments and businesses.

“The right mix of policies and strategies for exports, value addition to raw commodities and a greater sense of purpose to ensure a robust intra-Africa trade, to drive agricultural growth, economic diversification and the much-needed industrialization of the continent.

“As the saying goes, nothing succeeds as much as success. If we work at it, if we stop being beggars and spend Africa’s money inside the continent, Africa would not have to ask for respect from anyone, we will get the respect we deserve,” president Akufo-Addo said.

The Africa Prosperity Network (APN), in partnership with the African American Institute (AAI), has introduced the Global Africa Network.

This platform aims to mobilize the Global African (African Diaspora) community, providing them with access to funding opportunities to invest in Africa.

The launch of the Global Africa Network took place during the inaugural Global Africa Forum, held on the sidelines of the 78th UN General Assembly in New York. The forum’s theme centered on “Mobilizing Global Africa Investments to Boost Intra-African Trade.”

This forum, which occurred on September 21st, brought together various African policy and business leaders, as well as prominent Global Africans. During the event, leaders emphasized the importance of Global Africans actively participating in Africa’s development.

Leaders at the forum identified specific areas of investment, including the manufacturing sector, pharmaceutical industry, agriculture sector, and a newly established $1 billion AfCFTA adjustment fund, aimed at supporting productive sector investments.

Kofi Appenteng, President and CEO of the African American Institute (AAI), pointed out three critical actions that African governments should take to create an environment conducive to attracting funds from the Global African diaspora networks.

These actions include facilitating easier travel, providing pathways for residency and citizenship for non-citizens, and simplifying real estate acquisition for investors.

Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, Executive Chairman of the Africa Prosperity Network (APN), emphasized that economic integration is crucial for Africa’s peace, security, and prosperity.

He advocated for a mindset of “Africa without borders” to promote unity and investment on the continent. Otchere-Darko urged Global Africans to invest in Africa, highlighting the potential for profitability.

The Global Africa Network was officially launched to serve as a platform for Global Africans to engage with African leaders, establish partnerships with the African private sector, and facilitate investments in Africa. Membership is open to Diasporan associations, fund managers, investment brokers, and asset managers.

The Africa Prosperity Network, the African American Institute, and the UNDP’s Regional Bureau for Africa will collaborate to manage the network’s activities and engagement with the African continent.

Akufo-Addo urges diasporans to consider averting their investment capital to Africa

President Akufo-Addo has issued an invitation to Africans living in the diaspora, urging them to redirect their investment portfolios towards the continent.

He emphasized that with the establishment of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), the stage is now set for the continent to attract their investments, facilitating its industrial development and transformation.

During his address at the inaugural Global Africa Forum (GAF), which was jointly organized by the Africa Prosperity Network (APN) and the Africa-America Institute (AAI) on Thursday, September 21, 2023, on the sidelines of the 78th UN General Assembly in New York City, the theme of the event underscored this pivotal message, “Mobilising Global Africa Investment to Boost Intra-African Trade,” President Akufo-Addo said it is time for Africans to spend their monies on the continent to make her the wealthy place it ought to be.

“Like the vision of our forebears, the AfCFTA sets the stage for Africa’s industrialization and transformation. What is required now is for our respective governments and businesses to show bold leadership. We need coherent and complimentary strategic actions by governments and businesses.

“The right mix of policies and strategies for exports, value addition to raw commodities and a greater sense of purpose to ensure a robust intra-Africa trade, to drive agricultural growth, economic diversification and the much-needed industrialization of the continent” President Akufo-Addo said.

“As the saying goes, nothing succeeds as much as success. If we work at it, if we stop being beggars and spend Africa’s money inside the continent, Africa would not have to ask for respect from anyone, we will get the respect we deserve.

“Twenty years ago, thirty years ago, China was not where it is today. China does not ask anyone for respect today, she does not need to. Let us make our continent the joyful and prosperous place it should be and the respect will follow” Akufo-Addo added.

    Concrete areas of investment

Wamkele Mene, the Secretary-General of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) secretariat, addressed the gathering by outlining the four major areas of interest identified by AfCFTA for potential investors to explore on the continent.

These areas encompass the manufacturing sector, the pharmaceutical industry, the agriculture sector, and the newly established AfCFTA Adjustment Fund, which has a value of one billion dollars and aims to support investments in productive sectors.

“The fund is not intended for budget support. It is intended for productive sector investments. What we envisage is that you as the diaspora with global capital, will see the adjustment fund as a vehicle for channeling your investment and to see returns on your investments,” Wamkele Mene said.

“These are the four areas that we have identified which are concrete, which we believe will be long lasting and impactful and will create job opportunities in Africa so that millions of young Africans stop being buried deep in the Mediterranean. We can create jobs for them at home on the African continent and that is why I think this dialogue is so very important” he added.

    In attendance

In addition to President Akufo-Addo, the forum was graced by the presence of several other dignitaries, including Professor Benedict Oramah, who serves as the President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Afreximbank, and H.E. Albert Muchanga, the AUC Commissioner for Trade and Industry.

The event also saw the participation of esteemed individuals such as Dr. Amany Asfour, who holds the position of President of the Africa Business Council, Ms. Ahunna Eziakonwa, Assistant Secretary-General UNDP-RBA, Derrick Johnson, the President of NCAAP, Mr. Julius Mwale, the President and CEO of SBA Technologies Inc, along with numerous other prominent leaders in the Global Africa business community.

Akufo-Addo is the epitome of economic incompetence – Steve Hanke

Akufo-Addo’s economic management of Ghana has been criticised by Professor Steve Hanke, an economist and professor of Applied Economics at Johns Hopkins University in the United States.

In a string of tweets, he called the president a “masterclass in economic incompetence” and offered his support for the recent #OccupyJulorbiHouse protest led by the advocacy group Democracy Hub and concerned people.

In one of his tweets, Hanke stated, “Ghanaians took to the streets against Pres. Akufo-Addo’s CORRUPT & INCOMPETENT gov’t, as the money supply explodes and Ghana remains in an inflationary doom loop.”

In another tweet, he reinforced his position, saying, “The #OccupyJulorbiHouse protests in Ghana are rolling right along. Ghanaians have completely blocked off the 37 Roundabout, also known as the Akuafo Intersection, in Accra. PRESIDENT AKUFO-ADDO = A MASTERCLASS IN ECONOMIC INCOMPETENCE.”

On the concluding day of the three-day #OccupyJulorbiHouse protests, demonstrators made an attempt to breach a police barricade well into the night and march toward the presidential residence.

This effort persisted despite the unlawful detentions and heavy-handed tactics employed by the police on Day 1, during which they apprehended 49 protesters, detaining them for an extended period on charges of unlawful assembly. All of them were subsequently released on bail.

Days 2 and 3 unfolded without any significant incidents as the police had cordoned off the main road leading to the presidential residence, Jubilee House, even before the protesters initiated their march towards the location.

While Day 2 witnessed the closure of one section of the 37-Accra road, the final day saw both sides blocked, resulting in substantial vehicular traffic disruptions for the majority of the day.
