A tragic incident has occurred in the Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti region, where a 20-year-old Samuel Obeng has been accused of murdering his 8-year-old brother, Messiah Akomeah, in a bush near Kwamo.

Following the shocking act, Samuel returned home and informed his uncle about the crime.

He alleged that he was under the influence of a spirit when he led his younger brother to a secluded area, where he killed him and attempted to dispose of the body.

The suspect’s uncle, Kofi Appiah, expressed his disbelief in an interview with Adom News, stating that while he was aware Samuel smoked marijuana, he never anticipated such violence.

The nearly decapitated body of Messiah has since been discovered and taken to the mortuary.

  • Galamsey is now a global crime – Prof Aning

Galamsey is now a global crime – Prof Aning

Security expert, Prof. Kwesi Aning has labeled the galamsey phenomenon in Ghana as a form of transnational organized crime.

In an interview on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on September 2, 2024, Prof. Aning warned that these illegal mining activities are not only an existential threat to Ghana but are also harming the country’s international standing.

His comments come in the wake of a report from Ghana Water Limited, which has highlighted the challenges of providing water to parts of the Central Region due to pollution of the Pra River caused by galamsey activities.

“This has moved beyond ordinary citizens. We are talking about levels of collusion spanning every single facet of the state and transnational organized criminality of citizens from different countries whose activities, not only in the galamsey but for the purposes of today, it’s galamsey and the way it’s polluting waters, is posing an existential threat to Ghana, raising tensions between Ghana and Cote D’Ivoire.

“But even more disturbingly, the monies that are accrued from these activities are placing our international reputation at risk because it contributes to illicit financial flows and the funding of violent extremist activities elsewhere,” he said.

Prof. Kwesi Aning has called the country’s inability to address galamsey activities a disgrace.

He suggested that there may be involvement or facilitation of illegal mining by some state officials, citing the Aisha Huang case as an example.

“For every state where its leaders either collude, are incapable, or unwilling to use the power that they have been given in trust for generations yet unborn and deliberately allow others to come in from other countries to do what is happening, it is not only shameful but a disgrace.

“Because the heavy equipment, if I want to disaggregate those who are involved, somebody gives visas to the Chinese to come here, and the Aisha Huang case was very clear about the levels of state incompetence and the levels of state collusion.

“Nobody knew whether she had left this country, nobody knew when she had come back, nobody could dismantle her network, and we stood on the sidelines, and as one of my panelists said, just talk,” he added.

He emphasized that although Ghanaians’ involvement in illegal mining may have started on a smaller scale, it has evolved beyond mere illicit small-scale mining due to the significant investments now involved.

“… I like the statement the Chinese ambassador made a couple of years ago that ‘stop talking about China because who gives them the visa to come to this country.’ Every embassy in Ghana has an intelligence officer there to assess the visa application.

“So, we need to put a mirror in front of us, and then we need to tickle ourselves and laugh because we are just not doing what we are paid with the taxpayer’s money to do. So right now, if you look at the levels of investment in the galamsey, the Ghanaian component of that investment is very small. It’s moved from illicit small-scale to something else,” he said.

  • Adam Bonaa’s allegations against EOCO holds no water – Security Analyst

Adam Bonaa’s allegations against EOCO holds no water – Security Analyst

The Global Intelligence and Security Analysis Center (GISAC) has rebuked security analyst Dr. Adam Bonaa for labeling the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) as the epicenter of corruption. GISAC criticized Bonaa’s remarks as unfounded and lacking moral integrity.

In a statement signed by Executive Director Samuel Nana Appiah Owusu, GISAC accused Mr Bonaa of acting in bad faith, alleging personal vendettas against EOCO’s leadership, particularly COP Maame Tiwaa Addo-Danquah.

The statement claims that Bonaa’s criticism stemmed from personal grievances after his unsuccessful attempts to secure contracts and favors from EOCO.

GISAC emphasized that Bonaa’s accusations lacked substantiation and were driven by animosity towards EOCO’s head.

The statement highlighted Bonaa’s failure to provide evidence to support his claims and questioned the validity of his allegations.

The statement concluded by urging the public to dismiss Bonaa’s allegations as baseless and motivated by personal interests rather than genuine concerns about corruption at EOCO.

ADAM BONAA HAS NO MORAL RIGHT TO CALL EOCO A CORRUPT INSTITUTION. HE IS ENGAGED IN PEJORATIVE STIGMATIZATION.

I have read and listened to various articles and interviews both on traditional and social media regarding a claim by Mr. Adam Bonaa ( Security Analyst) to the effect that the headquarters of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) has become the corruption headquarters.

I must state here that the claim by Mr. Adam Bonaa is borne out of bad faith and has no merit whatsoever.

Mr. Adam Bonaa made such frivolous claims without substantiating same with any form of evidence. His claim suggests that he has personal banter with the Head of the Institution after his failed attempt to secure contracts and other favors.

I am reliably informed and can say on authority that the allegations against EOCO by Mr Bonaa is borne out of pure hatred against Mrs. Yaa Tiwaa Addo Dankwa, the head of EOCO.
Mr Adam Bonaa upon several attempts to lobby for contracts and favors from the head of EOCO, was told that there was no contract and also no such thing as favors were available for him ( Adam Bonaa).

Is it the case that Mr. Adam Bonaa is peeved and has resorted in denigrating the enviable reputation of the head of the institution and her personality ?
To what extent can he provide evidence to buttress his claim? What other series of corruption cases has he witnessed taking place at the EOCO headquarters? Can one accuse anybody simply because he or she refused to aced to a demand or give in to lobbyists?

Evidence are abundant to prove that Mr. Adam Bonaa’s claim is borne out of bad faith and must be treated with the contempt it deserves. He is hiding behind the call for Parliamentary inquiry into the Cecelia Dapaa’s case to engage in settling personal scores with the head of EOCO for the simple fact that his request for contracts and other favors from the head of the institution was declined.
From the evidence available, I can state without any form of equivocation that Mr. Adam Bonaa has no moral right to allege that EOCO has become the headquarters of corruption.
Mr. Adam Bonaa is rather engaging in pejorative stigmatization.

  • Johnson Kombian, Ghana’s most dangerous criminal who was trapped with a woman and arrested

Johnson Kombian, Ghana’s most dangerous criminal who was trapped with a woman and arrested

Johnson kombian alias Garkum was born into a family of kombian in nakpanduri in the North-East region of Ghana. He was born into a family of farmers and “pinto brewers”. He dropped out of school at class six and joined a gang of local area boys who where truants and recalcitrant students.

He was remounted to have had magical powers which help he and his gang rob and steal from the local community business persons.

His huge physique made the community fear him. He could threaten to rob you and true to his words he’ll attack you at night and make away with your monies.

Johnson Kombian was a notorious convicted armed robber who escaped from prison custody on three occasions, and carried out a spree of robberies and violent attacks on Ghanaians in a number of communities in the Northern and Upper East Regions, causing grievous bodily harm to many of them.

His name became popular and his name became a household name for thieves and stubborn people. His delima started when he together with his gang robbed a man and his family of their hard earn money alongside a 3 batterry tape record.

The matter was reported to the nankpabduri chief palace who then summoned him before his elders but Johnson gave them no hearing ear and rejected their invitation.

The police also positively identified Kombian as either the person solely responsible for committing a spate ofcrimes, especially, the snatching of motorcycles at gun-point in the Nakpanduri Scarp and the surrounding areas, or being the mastermind behind various violent criminal activities and other orchestrated acts of intimidation and terror in the Northern and Upper East regions, particularly, the Garu-Tempane-Bawku areas.

Kombian became the subject of close police intelligence monitoring and clandestine surveillance for a period of time – all of which efforts had been aimed at arresting him.

This monitoring led to his arrest and subsequent prosecution by the police where he was given five (5) years jail sentence. On 15th January, 2010, at about 4:00 a.m., convict prisoner Johnson Kombian was found to have escaped from the lawful prison custody.

At the time of his escape, the convict prisoner was also facing trial in a number of cases, including robbery, attempted murder, possession of firearms without lawful authority, escaping from lawful custody, failing to report on license, stealing etc.

According to reports, when Kombian’s escape from prison custody was detected, it was observed that the ventilation hole, made of wire mesh of Cell ‘A’ where the convict was locked up, had been broken and the debris of the wall packed in the cells.

The leg iron, which was used to shackle the convict prisoner, was also found opened, but there was no physical damage caused to suggest that the prisoner forced the leg iron open. All efforts made after the convict’s escape by both the prison authorities and the police to re-capture him went futile.

After some time, the police received information from Nakpanduri which indicated that he had re-surfaced in the village, and had threatened to kill the police personnel who caused or facilitated the arrest, which culminated in his conviction.

In fact, he even sent text messages to some senior police officers, including Regional Commanders, threatening to kill them. On October 17, 2010, the Kombian and his accomplices received information that a number of policemen had been detailed to perform duties at the Nakpanduri Scarp. Kombian and his accomplices however ambushed and attacked three policemen. They fired gunshots at the policemen who were then on a motorbike. The policemen fell into a 10-metre long valley.

Kombian and his group continued to fire sporadically into the valley, with the hope of killing the policemen, who also retaliated with occasional gun fire. After some minutes of firing, Kombian and his gang stopped, and on realizing that the gunshots had ended, one of the police officers, Agyare and his colleagues mistakenly thought their attackers had left. They, therefore, came out of their hide-out, and were subjected to more gun fire. Help finally came to Agyare and his colleagues, while Kombian and his accomplices bolted.

The wounded policemen were conveyed to the Nalerigu Hospital, but Agyare was later pronounced dead. Another police officer, Frimpong also died later, while one other officer Bonsu was transferred to the Police Hospital in Accra where he was treated and discharged.

n the early hours of Saturday, 23 October 2010, the police carried out another manhunt exercise for Kombian at his twin villages of Danvorga and Danugu, his mother’s native home but he appeared to have had some hints about the operation, and managed to slip through unnoticed into Togo, thus escaping arrest. Three days later, at about 10:00 p.m., the police had a tip-off that Kombian had re-surfaced in Nakpanduri (Gomsuka is Kombian’s family village and it is in this part of Nakpanduri that he has always felt secure and protected).

In the early hours of Wednesday, 27th October, 2010, based on credible intelligence reports that Johnson Kombian was still holed up in Gomsuka village, a massive police manhunt operation was launched in Gomsuka and other parts of Nakpanduri.

The deployed operational men reached Nakpanduri at about 1:00 p.m. from all four directions of Gomsuka village, but the cordoning-off and search exercises by the police could not locate Kombian, the main target.

It was suspected that he had had a tip-off and quickly and quietly slipped out of the village. The police, however, rounded up seventeen (17) persons on suspicion of either being accomplices of Kombian in his numerous criminal activities, or being persons who have been harbouring and protecting Kombian, and also giving him tit-bits of information that enable him escape anytime the police are on his heels. The suspects were conveyed to the Regional Police Headquarters, Bolgatanga, for questioning.

Kombian, who had been accused of rape, murder and armed robbery, was arrested by Interpol in Northern Togo on Friday, 19th November, 2010 after he was tricked by an informant that his girlfriend was seriously sick in Togo.

Unknown to him, the Togolese police laid ambush, and he was immediately arrested when he crossed the border from Ghana. He was transported to Lome, the Togolese capital, and handed over to the Ghanaian authorities at the Aflao border on Sunday morning.

On 19th August, 2015, a seven-member jury of the Accra Fast Track High Court unanimously found Kombian, guilty of conspiracy to commit crime and murder of the two police officers – Constables Prince Agyare and Owusu Frimpong.

He was sentenced to 30 years for conspiracy to commit murder and to death by hanging for murder. The trial judge, Justice Habib Logoh after reading the verdict told a sombre-looking Kombian “I know it may not happen but if it does, may God have mercy on your soul.”

In 2016, he attempted another jailbreak after he moved from his “condemned cell” to the main prison yard together with his two cell mates around midnight. The Nsawam Medium Security Prison was locked down following an alleged attempt by the notorious criminal.

  • Yahoo boys expose use of ‘juju’ in online fraud

Yahoo boys expose use of ‘juju’ in online fraud

The Cyber Security Authority and the Ghana Police Service are actively combatting the pervasive issue of online fraud in Ghana.

According to recent data released by the Cyber Security Authority, the country has suffered significant losses, with a reported loss of GH¢49.5 million in the first nine months of 2023 due to cybercriminal activities.

Although the police have conducted numerous operations and apprehended many individuals involved in online fraud, it appears that these actions have not deterred others from engaging in this illicit activity.

In a revealing GhanaWeb documentary titled “Escaping the Crime,” the spotlight is cast on the experiences of young Nigerian men who were enticed to come to Ghana and participate in online fraud rings.

They provide insights into the inner workings of these criminal networks, shedding light on the harsh conditions they endured while confined to houses rented by their handlers for conducting their unlawful operations.

These individuals also share their stories of how they managed to escape when they could no longer tolerate the circumstances.

Moreover, the documentary affirms the suspicions of many that mystical practices, often referred to as “juju,” play a significant role in the operations of these criminal rings.

This ongoing issue of online fraud in Ghana underscores the importance of continued efforts by both law enforcement agencies and authorities to combat cybercrime effectively.

“These things we’re doing, there’s something we call grace, you can just jam a helper he’ll come and just help you and some that are forming stubborn and you see they have money, you can’t just let them go like that, you can just go and tie them… anything juju we’re not doing it for our own self, we’re using it lock those people to favour us,” one of them said.

A second also revealed that “it dey work oo it depends and wetin will make am work na based your chairman, if he go that juju then that baba go give am condition and the general condition they mostly give to all the chairmen in this Ghana na to stay away from sex… but most of the chairmen they won’t and that is the reason why boys are not collecting money from the office like my chairman, he changes women like boxers.”

The frequency of this renewal remains uncertain, but it was noted that their leaders renew the mystical practice, known as “juju.”

Another individual shared that their leader conducts a ritual involving the use of fetish items. These items are placed in a pot and set on fire. Participants are instructed to speak their intentions as the smoke billows out and surrounds them, although they often find themselves unable to articulate their thoughts.

  • Minority describes BoG criminal over depletion of Ghana’s foreign reserve

Minority describes BoG criminal over depletion of Ghana’s foreign reserve

In response to the 2023 mid-year budget review presented in Parliament on August 2, the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, criticized the Central Bank for being responsible for the depletion of Ghana’s external reserves.

During his address, Dr. Ato Forson highlighted that the Bank of Ghana’s printing of money led to the unprecedented depreciation of the Ghanaian Cedi, which resulted in hyperinflation in 2022.

According to him, the value of the Cedi plummeted from GH¢6 to $1 to over GH¢15 to $1 in 2022, representing a staggering 100% depreciation on a straight-line calculation.

The combination of this severe depreciation and the soaring inflation rates has had profound economic consequences, causing even the once wealthy to fall into the middle-class category, and pushing the already impoverished population further into hardship.

Dr. Ato Forson further emphasized the alarming impact of inflation, as it forced approximately 850,000 people to slip below the poverty line in 2022, as reported by the World Bank.

This concerning situation has prompted calls for accountability from the Central Bank for its role in the country’s current financial challenges.

Dr Ato Forson said despite the earlier spirited denials by the Bank of Ghana and the government, “the government now admits that indeed the Bank of Ghana printed money to finance its over-bloated government expenditures in 2022”.

“Paragraph 8 of the IMF Staff Report gives further detail that the Bank of Ghana illegally printed over GHC45 billion representing 7.2% of GDP in 2022 alone, and GH¢35 billion in 2021. This is the first in the history of Ghana”, he said.

Describing the Central Bank as “a crime scene”, the Minority Leader said the government was instrumental in the commission of the sins of the Bank. “The Bank of Ghana is certainly a crime scene and the economic managers led by Mr. Strategist aided and abetted this economic crime”, Dr Ato Forson added.

He said on the watch of the current managers of the economy, Ghana’s public debt shot up from GH¢120 billion in 2016 to GH¢600 billion by the end of 2022, representing an increase of about 400%.

The Minority Leader pointed out that following the high debt levels, the country could not honour its obligations to its local and foreign debtors. “As a result of these high debt levels, Ghana defaulted in the repayment of both our domestic and foreign debts, the first time in our history”.

He said this explains why pensioners picketed at the Ministry of Finance to demand the payment of their interest and principal, which was another unenviable first in the history of Ghana. He added that that “rating agencies downgraded Ghana’s credit worthiness to “D”, in other words ‘super junky’.

Dr Ato Forson observed that the Ghana’s financial sector has virtually collapsed, with all the 23 banks in the country recording “massive impairment losses of over GH¢18 billion in 2022”.

He said “this is excluding the impairment losses of the non-bank financial institutions and the insurance companies”, adding that “the cost of the economic mismanagement by this government is unprecedented”.

Former deputy minister of finance Dr. Ato Forson claimed that the Bank of Ghana has also suffered as a result of the domestic debt restructuring carried out by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration.

In fact, the Bank of Ghana is bankrupt and in severe financial crisis, he declared, calling for immediate intervention.

The Bank of Ghana reported losses totaling over GH60.8 billion and negative equity exceeding GH55.1 billion in 2022.

  • Court grants two GH¢450,000 bail over alleged car fraud

Court grants two GH¢450,000 bail over alleged car fraud

An Accra Circuit Court has granted bail to two individuals in the amount of GHC450,000.00 each, requiring three sureties for each of them.

two individuals are accused of obtaining USD25,000 from a businessman by falsely claiming that they would secure him a BMW saloon car.

As part of the bail conditions, the Court ordered that two of the sureties for each accused should be public officers.

Mubarak Mohammed, also known as Maija Orey, pleaded not guilty to the charge of defrauding Mr. Kwame Osei Sarfo, while Jonathan Bright Mensah, alias JB, denied the accusation of aiding and abetting Mubarak.

The next court date for the case is set for August 21, 2023.

However, their alleged accomplice, a person named Obeng, is currently evading arrest and is considered to be at large.

According to Police Chief Inspector Eric Pobee, who is prosecuting the case, Mr. Sarfo, the complainant, is a businessman residing in Weija, Accra. Jonathan Bright Mensah works as an electronic technician, while Mubarak Mohammed is a businessman. They reside in Accra Newtown and Kotobabi, respectively.

The alleged fraudulent activity began in January 2022 when Mubarak approached the complainant, claiming to be a car dealer with a brother in the United States who was selling a 2022 model BMW X7. Mubarak showed the complainant pictures of the car and convinced him to pay USD$20,000 as the cost of the car and its shipment to Ghana. Later, Mubarak asked for an additional USD$5,000 from the complainant, claiming it was for the shipping fee.

Despite waiting for 16 months, the complainant did not receive the car, and he subsequently reported the matter to the police. Mubarak was arrested on June 13, 2023, and during the investigation, he admitted to the crime, revealing that he gave USD$11,000 to Jonathan and another USD$12,000 to his partner in the United States, keeping the remaining USD$2,000 for himself.

Jonathan was also apprehended and admitted to receiving $11,000 from Mubarak, which he claimed to have passed on to Obeng, who is currently on the run.

In conclusion, both Mubarak and Jonathan have been charged with the offenses and presented before the Court. The police are actively pursuing Obeng to bring him to justice.

8-year-old arrested after stealing car at gunpoint

An eight-year-old boy in Montgomery, Alabama has been arrested after he robbed a car at gunpoint and then got into a chase with police.

Per WSFA, Maj. Saba Coleman of the Montgomery Police Department said officers responded to reports of a car theft earlier this week. Following a police chase that ended with the child crashing into another vehicle and fleeing on foot, the unidentified minor was taken into custody at the Montgomery County Youth Detention Facility.

He has been charged with first-degree robbery, attempting to elude, and firearm possession. Coleman said the firearm used in the carjacking was recovered by officers at the scene. No injuries were reported, but the child apparently refused to pull over for police during the chase.

“Whenever I realized it was a little boy, I knew I had to follow them and make sure no one got hit and that he got caught because don’t want him driving all over Montgomery, causing more accidents or hurting himself or hurting other people,” said witness Snake Knapp, who noted he saw the child pick up two adults at one point during the incident. “I think parents just really need to know where their kids are, what their kids are doing, and just talk to them about these kinds of things.”

The news comes less than two months after a 10-year-old stole an SUV and got involved in a car chase with the Michigan State Police. According to authorities in that case, the child took the vehicle in an effort to drive to Detroit to see their mother. When they were pulled over by officers, they attempted to flee on foot before being taken into custody.

Legon student attacker slapped with 36-year jail term

A 24-year-old individual who assaulted a student at the University of Ghana has been given a 36-year prison sentence with hard labor by an Accra Circuit Court.

According to a newspaper report by the Chronicle Newspaper dated July 13, 2023, the presiding judge, Ellen Ofei-Ayeh, who delivered the sentence yesterday, July 12, 2023, slapped the accused now convict with 18 years each for conspiracy to commit a crime and robbery. The sentences will run concurrently.

Despite pleading not guilty, the convict underwent a full trial before being found guilty of the crime.

The unemployed convict, before the sentence he was pronounced with, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy, as he had a five-year-old daughter and a sick mother under his care as the breadwinner.

He also shared a background of growing up in a broken home and never having the opportunity to go to school beyond primary ‘4’

The court considered the gravitas of the offence and the completion of the full trial before reaching the verdict of guilt.

The two other accomplices, who were charged with the convict; Frank Attah Kwame Agyekum and Kofi Kwarteng alias Kofi Adwoumor, were acquitted, and discharged for lack of evidence.

The court established that Amaning conspired with Evans Kwabena Nyarko; a storekeeper who is currently at large, the perpetrator of the crime.

The prosecuting officer of the case, Chief Inspector Moses Mensah Soagede, named Joshua Asante Tuah as the complainant and a student at the University of Ghana, who lives in Haatso with his family.

According to the prosecution, on September 15, 2019, at about 2:00 am the convict and his accomplices, armed with a locally manufactured pistol, a cutlass, and a screwdriver, broke into the complainant’s house while he and his family were asleep.

The robbers were apprehended at the scene and handed over to a Police Patrol Team who came there.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Amaning and his gang devised the plan on September 14, 2019, at 10:00 pm in Agbogbloshie. They armed themselves and proceeded to the complainant’s house, jumping the fence wall and entering through the kitchen door to carry out the robbery.

On October 10, 2019, the Accra Regional Police received information from the Nkawkaw Police about the arrest of Frank Attah Kwame Agyekum and Evans Kwabena Nyarko in connection with another robbery. They were subsequently brought to the Accra Regional CID for further investigation.

In their respective statements, Agyekum and Nyarko admitted to being accomplices of Amaning and Kofi Kwarteng (alias Kofi Adwoumor), who was still at large at the time.

On October 22, 2020, Kwarteng was arrested in Agbogbloshie, Accra, following police surveillance.

In their statements during the investigation, all four individuals admitted to being involved in the robbery at the complainant’s house on September 15, 2019, at approximately 2:00 am.

As reported by DailyGuide on July 6, 2023, two individuals identified as Samuel Kwesi Tsogbe, a 33-year-old evangelist, and Esther Christ, a 63-year-old prophetess, both self-ordained pastors of Cornerstone Ministry International, have been accused of embezzling funds from the bank account of a sick and bedridden 72-year-old lecturer.

The pair allegedly siphoned a substantial amount of money from the lecturer’s account, causing widespread outrage and raising concerns about financial exploitation.

After stealing the money, Tsogbe and Christ opened an account with another bank and channeled the stolen funds into the said account.

The two were charged with stealing.

The court presided over by Mrs. Sedinam Awo Balokah, convicted the accused persons on their own pleas as they both pleaded guilty to the offence.

According to the prosecuting officer, Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, who presented the fact brief to the court, indicated that, the persons travelled from Kpando to Accra to offer prayers for the bedridden lecturer.

It was during their stay at the lecturer’s house that they committed the crime.

After which they sent away the lecturer’s house help, whom they claimed was the cause of the victim’s predicament.

The prosecutor named Margaret Dzandu, a teacher and the victim’s niece who lives in Kpando in the Volta Region, as the complainant, while the victim is a retiree who lives in Danfa in the Greater Accra Region.

According to the persecuting officer, the accused persuaded the complainant in 2022 that they had a revelation about her uncle’s situation and convinced her to send them to his residence to pray for the victim.

The prosecution said the accused persons occupied the home of the victim for about five months.

While there, they sacked the housekeeper and engaged a new house help from Kpando.

On May 4, 2022, Evangelist Tsogbe and Prophetess Esther took the victim to NIB bank, to withdraw GH200,000 from his account. They also stole the victim’s ATM card and cheque book from the National Investment Bank (NIB) after he did the withdrawal.

The prosecution stated that on September 22, 2022, they began transferring funds from the victim’s NIB account to Tsogbe’s account until June 2, 2023.

Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo added that the complainant visited the victim who needed money in June 2023. During a search of the house, the victim’s ATM card and cheque book were not found.

It said the complainant’s preliminary investigations showed that the accused persons had stolen her uncle’s ATM card and cheque book.

It added that the complainant reported the matter to the police at Kpando and an extract was given to her to send to the police at Ayi Mensah.

When the accused were arrested by police, they admitted to stealing the victims’ ATM card and cheque book, which were recovered.

According to police investigations, the accused purchased a tipper truck, a Hyundai Mighty 2 vehicle, and rented a shop in the Oti Region.

The Evangelist Samuel Kwesi Tsogbe pleaded with the court to forgive him as he did not know his action would turn out this way.

“I apologise for this; have learnt my lesson,” he said.

Esther Christ, the Prophetess, also told the court that she was a foreigner who came to Ghana through another prophet.
“I sincerely apologize,” Esther told the court.

The judge, Sedinam Awo Balokah, described the accused persons conduct as “unpalatable”.

The report added that the court was not impressed at all with the way people were using spirituality to exploit the vulnerable, hence handing down a deterrent sentence.

It ordered the seizure of items purchased and owned by the accused persons.

The court also froze the account of Tsogbe and restrained him or other persons from withdrawing money from the said account.

The two were served with a total jail term of 11 years. Samuel Kwesi Tsogbe, the evangelist was sentenced to six years imprisonment, while Esther Christ was sentenced to five years imprisonment.

Sulley, who was granted bail five months ago for grabbing Meek Mills’ cellular phone, is in the grips of the police for stealing a phone valued at GHC 4,000 belonging to a medical officer at Madina.

He appeared before an Adentan Circuit Court for allegedly stealing the medical officer’s phone when he (the complainant) attempted to board a commercial vehicle from Madina to Oyibi.

Sulley’s accomplice, whose name was only given as Junior is said to be at large.

Charged with conspiracy to steal and stealing, Sulley has pleaded not guilty.

The court presided over by Mrs Sedinam Awo Balokah has admitted Sulley to bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with three sureties one to be justified.

He is expected to reappear on July 20 as police mount a search for his accomplice.

An Attorney from the Attorney General’s Department opposed the grant of bail extended to Sulley pointing out that he was the same person who was before an Accra Circuit Court for charges of phone theft against American Wrapper Meek Mills at the Independence Square during the Afro nation concert last December.

According to state prosecutors, Sulley, when granted bail, was likely to commit a similar offence, and was a flight risk.

In Sulley’s application for bail, the Defence Counsel described Sulley as a law-abiding person who had never had a brush with the law and was also a peaceful member of society.

According to his lawyer, Sulley has people who were ready to stand as sureties.

The prosecution’s case was that the complainant is a Clinical Physician and a resident of Oyibi, Accra.

It said Sulley was unemployed and resided in Madina. Sulley’s accomplice, known as Junior, is at large.

The prosecution said on March 10, 2023, at about 2100 hours, the complainant was boarding a car from Madina to Oyibi when he felt a hand in his pocket where he had kept his Huawei mobile phone valued at GH¢4,000.

It said by the time the complainant could get hold of the hand in his pocket; the person absconded.

The prosecution said the complainant saw Sulley running away with the phone.

It said when the complainant enquired from some people around the scene, he (the complainant) was told that the accused person was a “Loading boy,” at the place and the scene was where he plies his trade.

The prosecution said the following day, Sulley resurfaced, and he was arrested.

It said Sulley, however, resisted arrest and raised an alarm which attracted about 20 people who tried to rescue Sulley.

In the process, the complainant and a witness in the case were injured.

The prosecution said the Police and the assembly member for the area were able to put the situation under control.

It said in Sulley’s caution statement, he denied stealing the phone but indicated that it was Junior, his accomplice who had stolen the phone.

Sulley further stated that he chased Junior and collected the phone from him.

The prosecution said Sulley and Junior went and gave the complainant’s mobile phone to someone to decode for them.

According to the prosecution, Sulley showed where they took the phone, and it was retrieved.

The prosecution said an investigation was underway.

Jean-Marc Berthon was due to visit the Central African country from 27 June until 1 July to discuss gender rights, multiple media channels reported earlier this week.

Expose those who commit actual crimes, don’t set people up – IEA to Anas

Director of research at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), Dr. John Kwakye, has cautioned investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas against setting up people to commit crimes in a way to expose them.

Dr Kwakye says setting people up to commit a crime is unacceptable and should be condemned.

His comments come after Anas said that he would be releasing a documentary on corruption in Ghana before the 2024 general elections.

Anas said this exposé will shake the foundation of the country.

He said these while answering questions in an interview on whether Anas was a ‘terrorist’ as was recently said by a High Court judge.

Anas defended his methods and talked about corruption in Africa.

He said “The work that I am doing now might be the last before we get into the [2024] elections. But already the signs are very clear and I can tell you that the foundation would be shaken once again.”

“There are a couple of international ones that are about to be released. But this one, talking to you as a Ghanaian, I mean the foundation of Ghana would be shaken,” he is reported to have said.

Commenting on this in a tweet, Dr Kwakye said “If Anas isn’t interested in cashing in on the elections, he should wait to publish his documentary after not before.

“Anas shouldn’t think that he can hold the whole country to ransom. No one is without blemish in this world. He himself isn’t an angel. Anas should work to catch people who commit actual crimes. He shouldn’t set people up to commit crimes. That’s unacceptable and should be condemned.

Police allegedly detain 77-year-old woman for son’s crime

A 77-year-old woman is reportedly being detained by the Tema Regional Police Command over a theft case involving her 33-year-old son.

A newspaper report by the Chronicle dated Wednesday, May 24, 2023, stated that the old woman, whose name is given as Adzo Dogbey, was picked by personnel from the Ghana Police Service on Sunday 14, 2023 and is still in custody until she provides information on her 33-year-old son, Kamasah Mawunyo who is alleged to run away with GH¢ 200,000 belonging to his expatriate employer.

According to the report, a relative to the woman explained that the last time Daavi Adzo [reference to the old woman] saw her son was on May 13 and when he returned with news of huge sums of money he had landed on.

However, when Mawunyo returned home and discovered his mother in a poor state, he handed her GH¢ 500 so she could get medical attention, according to the relatives, even though Daavi Adzo did not see the money her son claimed he had received.

“The medical bill was GH¢ 250., so when Adzo returned home, she gave Mawunyo the balance but asked her to keep it. Mawunyo left home that Saturday evening without a word to anybody,” the newspaper quoted the relative.

The report added that on May 14, 2023, some police personnel went to Daavi Adzo’s home to enquire about her son.

“Daavi told the police that the last time she saw Mawunyo was yesterday (Saturday) and told them about the money he gave her to go to the hospital. Nobody saw the money Mawunyo claimed he had brought. All he gave his mother was Ghc500 for her medical care,” the report said.

“The police told us they had come from Agbozome Police Station, so they needed Daavi to follow them to the station to write a statement, which she obliged and went with her two sons, my nephew, who lived with us in the village. After the written statement at the Abgozome Police Station, the police told my nephew to go home, and they whisked away my sister to the Tema Regional Police Command where she has been in custody since May 13, 2023,” the newspaper quoted a brother of Adzo.

One of the daughters of Madam Adzo told the newspaper that the police, via a phone call, demanded two sureties for her mother’s bail on Monday and when her uncle expressed readiness to stand as sureties, the police declined until she provide the whereabouts of her son, Mawunyo.

Driver slapped with 12-year jail sentence for stealing retiree’s vehicles and land

A driver who dishonestly appropriated two excavators, cars, and land valued 160,000 (GH₵‎2,059,814.40) belonging to a retiree, has been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court.

The culprit, Isaac Dwomoh also known as Nana Yaw was held on four counts of fraudulent breach of trust.

Dwomoh pleaded guilty and the court presided over by Mrs. Adelaide Abui Keddy convicted him on his plea. He prayed through his counsel to the court to have mercy on him.

The prosecution led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Haligah beseeched the court to consider the intrinsic seriousness of the offence and the premeditation with which the accused carried out his plans.

It further entreated the court to consider the loss suffered by the complainant, Comfort Amo, and the long-term effect of the offence on her.

“It is our prayer that the sentence will be retributive and deterrent enough to serve as a lesson to likeminded persons.”

The case of the prosecution is that the complainant is a Retired Health Care Nurse domiciled in London while Dwomoh lived in Ghana.

In February 2019, the complainant arrived in the country on holiday.

The prosecution said that on her arrival at Kotoka International Airport, the complainant requested for an Uber ride service to her home at Haatso and Dwomoh was assigned to her.

It said that a few months after the complainant’s stay in Ghana, she bought a KIA Picanto saloon car for Dwomoh to use for Uber ride service and left for London.

The prosecution said while in London, the complainant was in constant touch with Dwomoh and through their conversation, she declared the intent to return to Ghana.

It said while in London, the complainant shipped two CAT excavators valued at 135,000 each, a Toyota RAV4 utility vehicle costing 20,000 and sent 5,000 to Dwomoh to purchase a parcel of land at Pokuase.

The prosecution told the court that in December 2022, the complainant arrived in the country for the holidays and called Dwomoh to pick her up at the Airport, but he did not show up, switched off his phone and went into hiding.

It said all efforts made by the complainant to trace the accused and the vehicles proved futile.

The complainant, therefore, reported the case to the Police.

On January 29, 2023, Dwomoh was arrested at his hideout.

The prosecution said in his caution statement that Dwomoh admitted to selling all the vehicles and misappropriating the proceeds.

  • Man jailed 39 years for shooting sleeping pregnant wife

Man jailed 39 years for shooting sleeping pregnant wife

For attempted murder, Effort Dankwa has been sentenced to 39-year prison term by the Accra High Court.

In August 2015, in the couple’s apartment in Tema Community 11, Effort Dankwa shot his pregnant wife Benita Dankwa.

Benita, who was seven months pregnant, was delivered of a baby boy through caesarean section later in the hospital on the day of the shooting.

She has remained paralysed from her chest downwards.

Her husband, who was the only suspect in the shooting denied any wrongdoing and pleaded not guilty when charged with attempted murder.

The case, which has travelled over seven years, came to an end last Friday, March 10, 2023, when a seven-member jury found Effort Dankwa guilty of attempted murder.

Justice Mary M. E. Yanzuh, who sentenced him agreed with the submission by the prosecution that the crime was grave, and the punishment should be severe enough to deter men who nurse such evil against their spouses.

The lawyer for the accused, Winston Hayford, had earlier pleaded for mitigation, saying the accused was a first-time offender and deserved a second chance.

Citing Biblical characters such as Moses, David and Paul, Mr. Hayford said Effort Dankwa was a teacher whose service was beneficial to society. He, therefore, prayed the court to be lenient with him.

The prosecution, on the other hand, prayed the court to hand him a sentence that was severe enough to deter others. A state attorney told the court that the harm Effort Dankwa had caused his wife was irreversible and that her parents were now taking care of her instead of the other way round.

Justice Mary Yanzuh said the offence was a first-degree felony and that punishment could range from a life imprisonment to a lesser sentence. She said though the court had the discretion to sentence, that discretion must be “fair and judicial”.

She said, in arriving at the sentence, she took into account a number of factors such as the accused being a first time offender.

She said she also considered the fact that the accused said he did not own a pistol, therefore the crime was premeditated.

She added shooting his seven-month-pregnant wife meant that Effort Dankwa had no regard for the “innocent unborn child”. She also said she took into account the degree of the harm caused the victim, who had lost her ability to pass urine and empty her bowels.

The parents of Benita Dankwa, who were in court to hear the sentence, said it was deterrent enough.

On Friday when a seven-member jury found Effort Dankwa guilty of attempted murder, Benita’s parents said they were happy their daughter had finally got justice.

“It is not the number of years he is going to spend in prison that matters to me, but the fact that he has been proven guilty is my main interest. I am satisfied and okay with the court,” her father, Seth O.S. Yirenkyi, told The Fourth Estate.

Her mother, Mrs. Agnes Yirenkyi, said she felt relieved. “My heart is at peace and comforted by God’s word that patience begot victory. Jehovah is a lover of justice. If, after all these years, they have investigated and found that he is guilty, then that is God’s verdict. It isn’t that I am happy nor sad. My daughter is forever incapacitated, but the truth has been unveiled,” she said.

The jury’s verdict came more than seven years after Effort, then 36 years, was arrested after police investigations identified him as the prime suspect in an attack on his wife, Benita Dankwa, then 29.

  • Pastor jailed 519 years for defrauding over 100 people

Pastor jailed 519 years for defrauding over 100 people

An Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Evelyn Asamoah, has sentenced a Reverend Minister, Edward Buabeng, to a total of 519 years imprisonment.

Rev Buabeng was handed down the sentence yesterday, after having been found guilty on 173 counts of conspiracy to commit a crime and defrauding by false pretences.

The convict would serve eighty years on each count but the sentences are to run concurrently.

Mrs Asamoah acquitted and discharged the second accused, Wilfred Brown, aged 58, and an Accountant, on all of the charges.

The third accused person, Aubrey des-Bordes Mends, absconded just after her plea was taken and granting of bail at the commencement of the case. A bench warrant was issued by the court for Aubrey’s arrest.

Nonetheless, the case came to its final conclusion after a three year trial, in which 12 witnesses from over 100 defrauded victims were called to testify against the accused persons.

Chief Inspector Benson Benneh, prosecuting the case, informed the court that the complainants in the case were a husband and a wife, John Osei-Kumi and Brenda Adolphine Appiah. He said the complainants work as a marketer and a banker respectively.

The court was also told that accused persons and the complainants all live at Dansoman Community in Accra. He said John and Brenda invested an amount US$7, 000.00 and Brenda US$6,000.00 into the convict’s company, Career Link Marketers Company Limited, with expected interest of 40 percent (40%) each for a period of three months.

The complainants made the investment somewhere in July 2018 but when the period elapsed in October of the same year for the convict to pay their principal and interest, he failed.

Meanwhile, several attempts made by the complainants to compel the convict to pay their money were unsuccessful and by which the latter went into hiding.

The complainants, therefore, lodged a complaint with the Dansoman Police Station. The police subsequently received over 100 complaints from others who have been defrauded by Rev. Buabeng.

Police investigation had it that about GH¢1,193,136 and US$185,408.00 were invested into the convict’s company by the complainants. The convict was arrested and detained for investigation by the police.

According to the prosecuting officer, Rev. Buabeng admitted the offence in his caution statement to the police but promised to refund the monies to the complainants, since the company has enough resources to do so.

C/Insp Benneh added that the convict did not honour his promise. Although police checks established that Career Link Marketers Company Limited is registered with the Registrar General Department, the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) had not issued it with a licence to operate.

He added that during the investigation, the convict paid a sum of GH¢115,000.00 and the same was disbursed to the complainants.

  • 8 teenage girls charged with second-degree murder of man in downtown Toronto

Eight teenage girls have been charged with the second-degree murder of a 59-year-old man in downtown Toronto.

On Sunday, Dec. 18, police reported the stabbing of a man on York Street and University Avenue around 12:17 a.m.

Toronto police said the group consisted of three 13-year-olds, three 14-year-olds, and two 16-year-olds who allegedly assaulted and stabbed a man repeatedly. He was then taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and died shortly after.

Det. Sgt. Terry Browne said in a press conference that a group of people flagged down emergency medical services shortly after the assault.

Police then located and arrested the group of girls in a nearby location while securing a number of weapons.

The individuals cannot be identified under the terms of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

“These eight individuals, from what we’ve gathered so far, is that they met through social media,” Browne said in reply to a question from a journalist. “They come from varying parts of the city – that is to say they are not from one specific geographic location. We don’t know how they met on that evening, and why the destination was downtown Toronto.”

Browne also added that he wouldn’t quite classify them as a gang at this point. He instead said that the incident could be classified as a swarming.

  • Amar’e Stoudemire arrested after allegedly punching and slapping daughter

Former NBA star Amar’e Stoudemire was arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly punching and slapping his teenage daughter.

According an arrest affidavit obtained by NBC News, Stoudemire entered his daughter’s room and asked her about “giving attitude” to her grandmother when she allegedly called her name and responded by saying, “What?” His unidentified daughter said she wasn’t giving her attitude, but Stoudemire allegedly interpreted her response as “talking back again,” sparking his alleged violent reaction.

Stoudemire allegedly punched her in the jaw, slapped her across the face, and struck her body.

When police arrived at his Miami condo, they allegedly noticed blood stains on her sweater and pants. The police report claims Stoudemire explained to officers that “she had received a whooping from him for being disrespectful and a liar,” but refused to get into further details.

It appears Alexis, mother of the daughter involved in the incident, called 911 after receiving a picture of her crying as blood was streaming down her face. Alexis allegedly arrived at the condo where she showed the photo to authorities and told them that Stoudemire “told her to come pick up the victim because she was being disrespectful.”

Stoudemire has been charged with one count of misdemeanor battery and one count of domestic violence. He was released from custody after posting a $1,500 bond.

The alleged incident occurred one day after earning a Master of Business Administration at the University of Miami.

  • Teen discovers anonymous Cyberbully who harassed her was her own parent, mother charged

A Michigan woman was arrested and charged this week in Isabella County for her role in a catfishing scheme that targeted her own daughter.

According to the New York Post, Kendra Gail Licari, 42, of Mt. Pleasant was charged on Monday with two counts of stalking a minor, two counts of using a computer to commit a crime, and one count of obstruction of justice.

Licari’s daughter and her then-boyfriend were being cyberbullied, but they didn’t know it was Licari until they identified her this past Spring. The cyberbullying stemmed from a Dec. 2021 complaint to Beal City Schools, which means the harassment was going on for well over a year.

At the time the report was made, Licari was a girls’ basketball coach at Beal City Schools.

Isabella County Prosecutor David Barberi said FBI analysts were able to identify Licari as the cyberbully through her IP addresses that were used to send the harmful messages. Barberi says they have complied 349 pages of text and correspondence with the teens.

In addition, she is accused of using VPNs to frame her daughter’s peers with the cyberbullying. Licari has since made a full confession.

Licari is due back in court on Dec. 29 to determine if there’s enough evidence to go to trial.

They were jointly held for conspiracy to commit crime and defrauding by false pretence, an offence they pleaded not guilty to.

The court presided over by Mrs Evelyn Asamoah adjourned the case to December 22, 2022.

  • Woman jailed 25 years after watching her boyfriend kill six of his family members

A woman who witnessed her boyfriend kill six members of his own family in February 2016 has been given a 25-year prison term, sources at the Chicago-Sun Times say.

25-year-old Jafeth Ramos pleaded guilty to one count of armed robbery in connection with the 2016 killings, which were committed by her former boyfriend Diego Uribe. She admitted that she accompanied Urbe to his aunt Maria Martinez’s home in 2016, where he fatally shot her after demanding money. Uribe also beat her brother Noe Martinez Jr. to death, fatally stabbed their mother Rosaura Martinez, killed their 10-year-old and 13-year-old children, and killed Noe Martinez Sr. when he returned home. Ramos and Uribe were arrested in May 2016.

Ramos was facing almost 500 criminal counts in connection with the killings, but entered the guilty plea as part of a deal with Cook County prosecutors after agreeing to testify against Uribe, who was sentenced to life in prison last month. Uribe is not believed to have directly killed any of the six victims, but she was still described by authorities as an “active participant” in the killings. The pair stole an Xbox and approximately $550 in cash.

In court, she testified that she accompanied Uribe to the family’s home, and admitted that she did not call for help or try to leave during the ordeal. When she was sentenced on Tuesday, she declined to give a statement. She told jurors she accepted the plea deal in hopes she could see her son again.

She described how Uribe killed all of the family members, although his attorneys argued that he was present when the family was killed in a robbery by four masked men gone wrong.

  • Florida man arrested for allegedly having sex with dog in public

A Georgia man has been arrested after he commented “how about me” on a sheriff’s post detailing the county’s most wanted list.

Per WSBTV, the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office shared a poster with the ten “most wanted” criminals in the county last week, which prompted 40-year-old man Christopher Spaulding to ask, “How about me?” In a comment responding to his question, the social media account for the office replied, “You are correct you have two warrants, we are on the way.”

Later that same day, the office shared a photo of Spaulding showing that he had been arrested. “We appreciate you for your assistance in your capture!” the post announcing his arrest read. “Special thanks to our Fugitive Unit for being active and efficiently apprehending Mr. Spaulding who has 2 warrants for Felony Violation of Probation.” Authorities explained that he was on the list because it’s comprised of criminals facing more severe charges, such as armed robbery or kidnapping.

“Our Top 10 is compiled based off of the severity of the charges only,” reads the post. “By not being on this list does not mean our Fugitive Unit is not looking for you if you have an active warrant.” Spaulding is currently being held on two charges of felony probation violation.

Jail records show that Spaulding was booked in Rockdale County Jail on Dec. 2.

The bizarre arrest comes not long after alleged criminal Charles Dion McDowell’s mugshot went viral due to his noticeably wide neck.

Unlike Spaulding, however, he didn’t effectively remind authorities that he’s a wanted man.

In an initial statement shared to Twitter by Chesapeake city officials on Tuesday night, it was confirmed that Chesapeake Police Department officers were responding to what was then described as an “active shooter incident” at the Walmart located on Sam’s Circle.

Mark G. Solesky, chief of police, later confirmed (as seen in the ABC News-streamed video below) that the first emergency call came in to the city’s local 911 dispatch center at 10:12 p.m. local time. A little over an hour later, according to Solesky, the scene was “declared safe” by responding officers.

While the investigation into the shooting will continue in the days ahead, Solesky confirmed on Wednesday that six victims had died. Another four victims were confirmed to have been hospitalized, although details on their conditions were not immediately shared. The suspect, meanwhile, died from what police believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

At the time of this writing, the identity of the shooter had not been publicly released. During Wednesday’s press conference, Solesky confirmed only that he was used a pistol in the attack. Furthermore, Solesky responded to a question from a reporter about the employment status of the suspect, confirming that the unnamed individual was (as had been reported prior to the presser) an employee of Walmart.

When reached for comment by Complex on Wednesday, a Walmart spokesperson shared the following:

“We are shocked at this tragic event at our Chesapeake, Virginia store. We’re praying for those impacted, the community and our associates. We’re working closely with law enforcement, and we are focused on supporting our associates.”

Complex has also reached out to reps with the Chesapeake Police Department for additional comment. This story may be updated.

Chesapeake Mayor Rick West called the shooting a “senseless act of violence,” adding that he was “grateful” for the work of first responders.

In an interview on Good Morning America on Wednesday, one witness to the fatal shooting said the attack had occurred in the store’s break room area.

“I looked up and my manager just opened the door and he just opened fire,” the witness, identified as Briana Tyler, said.

Police in Arizona found quite the surprise after pulling over a man on DUI charges this week.

CBS 11 reports the Payson Police Department discovered a live owl riding shotgun in a car being driven by a man suspected of DUI charges. According to police, the driver claimed he illegally bought the owl for $100 from a person at a gas station. The gas station attendant told him they’d found the owl on the side of the road.

  • The shocking amount of money that landed Ataa Ayi in jail and its equivalent in 2022

Have you ever wondered how much Ataa Ayi stole in total to be sentenced to 160 years in jail?

Regarded as the most notorious armed robber in the history of Ghana, Raymond Ayee Ayitey popularly known as Ataa Ayi was arrested in 2005 while drying his clothes at his hideout in Teshie-Nungua.

Ataa Ayi whose name became a household name and synonym for a hardened criminal was reported to have engaged in several robbery attacks.

As the story goes, it all started when Ayi crashed his master’s car while returning from a festival in Akropong with a passenger and needed to raise an amount of money to repair the car.

He confided in a friend about his situation and his friend introduced him to another friend named Eddie who needed a skillful driver to help him with his criminal activities which involves looting cars.

Despite initially turning down the offer, Ataa Ayi joined the gang of car looters and their first operation in 1999 led them to steal ¢12 million cedis out of which he got ¢2.5 million cedis for himself.

Seeing how lucrative their criminal acts were, the gang made their activities frequent and they terrorized people while hijacking their cars and robbed them of their valuables.

One of the victims of Ataa Ayi’s robbery recounted his ordeal and narrated that the gang trailed his car from a bank and made away with ¢22 million cedis he had withdrawn.

Another victim who was a pastoralso disclosed that Ayi’s gang stole his ¢56 million cedis at the church premises.

Ghana in the early 2000s was in the process of developing and as such there were few means to transact businesses with the aid of technology such as mobile money and back transactions, hence people carried high sums of money in large quantities.

Ataa Ayi and his gang were estimated to have stolen an amount of ¢700 million old cedis cash plus cars, telephones and pieces of jewellery. The cash amount stolen by Ataa Ayi and his gang would be equivalent to ¢70,000 cedis in 2022.

  • Grandmaster Jay sentenced to 7 years in prison on charges related to Breonna Taylor protest

Grandmaster Jay, the leader of a Black pro-gun activist group, will spend the rest of the decade behind bars.

The 59-year-old Cincinnati man—legal name John Fitzgerald Johnson—was sentenced to 86 months in prison this week for his actions during a 2020 protest in Kentucky. Johnson, who founded the Not Fucking Around Coalition, was accused of pointing an AR-15 rifle at two federally deputized officers in downtown Louisville, as he and other demonstrators took to the streets demanding justice for Breonna Taylor.

According to local outlets, the NFAC and other participating groups chose to conduct the protests on Kentucky Derby Day, arguing the event should’ve been canceled because authorities had yet to file criminal charges in connection to Taylor’s death. The 26-year-old Black woman was killed in March 2020 during a botched raid on her Louisville apartment.

Back in May, a federal jury convicted Johnson on one count of “assaulting, resisting or impeding” law enforcement, and one count of “brandishing a firearm in relation to a crime of violence.” The 86-month sentence was a little more than the minimum allowed under federal law. He was originally facing up to 27 years in federal prison.

According to the Enquirer, Johnson is ineligible for parole and will have three years of supervised release after completing his seven-year prison sentence.

Johnson spoke to Complex last year about NFAC’s mission, which included “the establishment of an infrastructure that can assist in being the framework for community, self-policing, and the protection of our own communities and our race.”

“We live in a world where racism is appearing to rear its ugly head again the way it did back in the Jim Crow days,” the Army veteran explained. “We didn’t create that. It recreated itself. So it proved to be fertile ground for the creation of the NFAC, the same way it was fertile ground in the ’60s to create the Black Panthers.”

  • Video shows teen knocking himself out by slamming into window while robbing Louis Vuitton store

A suspect attempting to burglarize a Louis Vuitton store knocked himself out before he could even escape the premises.

Footage of the incident shows two people snatching handbags from the wall and pulling them from their security tags and seemingly just waltzing out of the store as security looks on. In another angle from the store’s security camera, another thief—who TMZ has identified as being 17-years-old—also tries to make a run for it before slamming into a huge window and knocking himself unconscious.

At that point, a security guard runs over and kneels over the teen’s back, and looks to be handcuffing him. The incident took place in Bellevue, Washington, where the suspect is said to be stealing $18,000 in items from the high-end store. According to prosecutors, the suspect was part of a retail theft ring that has been operating out of Bellevue.

It’s unclear when the robbery took place, and the suspect hasn’t been identified since he’s a minor.

The young thief’s blunder is comparable to a Quebec City, Canada suspect who forgot to cover his face when he attempted to rob a store. His face was captured on camera before realizing he hadn’t worn his mask.

Once he had his mask on, he handed the clerk a piece of paper before speaking to him. The video ends shortly after their exchange. Thankfully, it doesn’t appear as if anything violent took place.

Duro, who was held on the charges of conspiracy to commit a crime, namely causing harm and causing harm, pleaded not guilty.

When the case was called, Duro informed the Court that he wanted to change his plea from not guilty to guilty.

The Court obliged him and convicted him on his own plea.

Duro’s accomplice, known as Raphael, is said to be at large.

  • Former Sheriff’s deputy arrested for allegedly selling guns used in shooting outside school

A former Philadelphia sheriff’s deputy is facing federal gun trafficking charges after he allegedly sold weapons to an FBI informant.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports Samir Ahmad, a four-year veteran, was arrested and charged with firearms trafficking and selling firearms to a person unlawfully in the United States.

Ahmad, 29, is accused of selling two handguns to a confidential informant on Oct. 13, while he was a sworn law enforcement officer as a deputy sheriff.

During Ahmad’s exchange with the undercover agent, the informant told the sheriff’s deputy he could “get deported” if he was caught in possession of a gun. Ahmad, who made $3,000 off the sale, responded, “You don’t got to worry about none of that.”

Federal prosecutors traced the two pistols to a recent shooting that took place outside Roxborough High School in Philadelphia, which left one teenager killed and four others wounded.

“Samir Ahmad abused his authority—to the greatest extent possible—as a sworn law enforcement officer,” U.S. Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero said in an official statement. “The defendant was allegedly illegally selling firearms on the street to at least one person who was not permitted to possess them, adding fuel to the already-incendiary fire of deadly gun violence in the City of Philadelphia. Working with our law enforcement partners, we are doing all that we can to investigate and prosecute those responsible for the violence.”

Ahmad, who was employed with the Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office since February 2018, was terminated on Oct. 19, the same day he was arrested by federal agents.

If convicted, Ahmad faces a maximum possible sentence of 15 years in prison.
