I will scrap tax on bet winnings – John Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to eliminate the betting tax and the Electronic Levy (E-Levy) if he wins the 2024 elections.

At a National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth Townhall Meeting in Accra, Mahama outlined his plans to address significant economic challenges facing Ghanaians.

He criticized the E-Levy for not meeting its revenue goals and for putting extra financial strain on citizens.

He also spoke against the betting tax, which has been controversial among the youth.

Mahama assured attendees that his administration would not only remove the E-Levy and COVID Levy but also abolish the betting tax.

He urged the youth to support his vision for a prosperous Ghana.

“You can also be assured that we will abolish the e-levy, remove the COVID Levy, and scrap the betting tax. I urge you to stand with us, stand for your dreams, and stand for a better Ghana.

“Together, we can build the Ghana we want, where every young Ghanaian can succeed.

With these policy proposals, I invite Ghana’s youth to partner with Naana Jane and me in our shared commitment to restoring the nation’s potential for future generations,” he said.

Additionally, Mahama called for improved mechanisms to retain local talent, noting the troubling trend of professionals leaving Ghana due to economic hardships.

He emphasized the need for a system that effectively supports and harnesses the country’s human capital.

What you truly need are jobs, not allowances – Mahama to trainee nurses

Former President John Dramani Mahama has encouraged trainee nurses to prioritize securing stable employment over relying on allowances. He highlighted the need for sustainable job opportunities in Ghana’s healthcare sector.

Speaking to trainee nurses on Saturday, Mahama acknowledged their financial difficulties but emphasized that long-term job security is more beneficial than temporary financial support.

He assured them that his administration would focus on job creation within the healthcare industry, ensuring stable and rewarding careers for nurses and other health professionals.

“We know the problems with trainee nurses and that is why when we were in government, we said we were going to substitute your allowance with the students’ loan because we wanted to create more employment for you. What is important for you is not the allowance it is to get a job when you finish school,” he stated.

Adding that “But somebody came and said he will pay the allowances. Unfortunately, it was 419…Come and pay the nurses you owe them almost 30 months of arrears. Some of them have left school without receiving their allowances and some of them are going to leave school again without receiving their allowances.

“…I make you a commitment when I come to the hospitals, we were building that have been abandoned by this government we will continue them. When I come to the agenda 111 hospitals, they are building I will continue and finish them so that we can create more space to be able to absorb all of you when you finish school. This election is between Ghana and NPP.”

The 24-hour economic policy by Mahama is a laudable idea – Kafui Danku

Ghanaian actress and producer Kafui Danku has publicly supported former President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the upcoming December 7, 2024 elections.

In an interview with Hitz FM’s Doreen Avio, Danku praised the NDC’s proposal for a 24-hour economy, describing it as a crucial initiative for job creation and economic recovery.

“The 24-hour economy is a laudable idea. There’s going to be more jobs in the system. People are idle now; people can’t even feed. There’s going to be more jobs in the system so that we can catch up,” she stated.

Danku highlighted the potential benefits of a 24-hour economy, noting it would generate employment opportunities and help address widespread economic difficulties.

“For those who have been unemployed, they are all going to be employed. There will be a very robust economy. Things will get better, and I’m sure this exchange rate matter would be solved eventually, and then the cost of living will be much better than it’s been,” she added.

She expressed confidence that the development of appropriate industries would strengthen the economy and improve living standards.

She also addressed concerns about the high cost of living and the unstable exchange rate, expressing hope that the NDC’s plans would lead to substantial improvements in these areas.

Danku’s endorsement of Mahama and the NDC is part of the party’s broader campaign efforts, which focus on significant economic reforms.

Mahama will face off against Vice-President and NPP candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, New Force Movement’s Nana Kwame Bediako, and Movement for Change’s Alan Kyerematen in the upcoming election.

  • “Phone me or forget 2024 elections” – Zimbabwean prophet to John Mahama

“Phone me or forget 2024 elections” – Zimbabwean prophet to John Mahama

British-Zimbabwean Prophet Uebert Angel has recently updated his prophecy concerning the 2024 Ghanaian elections, specifically regarding John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Prophet Angel had previously declared that Mahama was divinely chosen to lead Ghana starting in 2025.

However, he stipulated that Mahama must fulfill three conditions to achieve this, including personally calling the prophet.

Three months after this initial prophecy, Prophet Uebert Angel announced that Mahama has met two out of the three required conditions but has yet to make the crucial phone call himself.

During a recent sermon, Angel emphasized that Mahama has only ten days left to make the call, failing which his prospects for returning to power could be jeopardized.

According to Prophet Angel, although someone from Mahama’s team did reach out to him, it is imperative that Mahama himself make the call.

He noted that spiritual protocols are in place and that he cannot be swayed by intermediaries or material incentives.

Angel reiterated that if Mahama does not contact him directly, he will miss out on the prophecy’s fulfillment.

Meanwhile, John Mahama and the NDC officially launched their campaign for the 2024 elections on July 27, 2024, in Tamale.

During the event, Mahama committed to transparency and vowed to prosecute officials from the current administration if elected.

I come from a family with NDC affiliation – KOD

Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD), a prominent media personality, has reaffirmed his support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama. This public endorsement, delivered at the 2024 election campaign launch, took many by surprise given KOD’s previous alignment with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a candid interview with Bernard Avle of Citi FM, KOD explained that his backing for the NDC is deeply influenced by his personal history. He attributed his political leanings to the values instilled in him by his family and upbringing. “My support for the NDC is a reflection of my background, shaped by my parents and the environment I grew up in,” KOD shared.

At the NDC’s campaign event in Tamale, KOD was an active advocate for Mahama, urging voters to consider the change the party promises. He praised Mahama’s leadership journey and called on Ghanaians to support the needed transformation for the country, stating, “We need the change we’ve been yearning for.”

This shift in allegiance is notable, especially since KOD had previously been a supporter of the NPP. In a September 2023 interview, he had expressed disappointment with the current government’s unmet promises, which prompted his political pivot.

KOD’s new stance has led to some friction, as revealed in a Facebook post from July 20. He acknowledged that his change in political allegiance has led to estrangement from some of his acquaintances but reiterated his right to make his own choices. KOD expressed frustration with attempts to sway his political views, underscoring his commitment to his personal convictions.

Anyone who tries to insult Mahama will run away and leave their slippers- Joyce Bawah

Joyce Bawah, a special aide to John Dramani Mahama, has asserted that anyone who attempts to insult the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer will end up fleeing, leaving their slippers behind.

In an interview on the ‘Badwam’ show, she expressed her intolerance for the politics of insult.

According to Bawah, those who choose to engage in such behavior will not find it easy.

Referring to a video she encountered before appearing on the morning show, she claimed that Samira Bawumia, the wife of Vice President Bawumia, had used unprintable words to describe Mahama.

She cautioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) political communicators that if they continue down this path, it will not bode well for them.

“Anyone who tries to insult Mahama will run away and leave their slippers behind,” Bawah warned.

Mahama and I are good friends, he even invites me to his home – Agya Koo to critics

Ghanaian actor Alex Kofi Adu, better known as Agya Koo, has made headlines with his recent declaration of admiration for former President John Dramani Mahama.

This revelation came during a performance at a funeral, where Agya Koo shared his ongoing communication with Mahama, who is the National Democratic Congress flagbearer for the upcoming 2024 elections.

Agya Koo went on to highlight his relationship with Mahama, stating that they frequently converse at Mahama’s home.

He emphasized his affection for the former president, challenging anyone to match his level of support.

“We have never had an election in Ghana before and fight. When Nana Addo is in power, I am part of the government, if Mahama also comes to power, I will be part of the government.”

This declaration follows an incident at the same funeral where Agya Koo reacted angrily to fans chanting Mahama’s name during his performance.

“You don’t like John Mahama more than I do. He even invites me to his home, and we sit in his hall to have conversations. Do you like him more than I do?”

In a viral video from the event, Agya Koo halted his performance to address the crowd, explaining that members of his band are affiliated with both the NPP and the NDC.

He noted that despite their political differences, they were united in their performance to honor the deceased.

Agya Koo also questioned the relevance of political chants at a funeral, underscoring his commitment to tolerance and unity as a Ghanaian.

Mahama will find it difficult to prosecute corrupt appointees of Akufo-Addo if he wins– Pratt

Kwasi Pratt Jnr., Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, has expressed concerns about the challenges former President John Dramani Mahama might face in prosecuting corrupt officials from the Akufo-Addo administration if he wins the upcoming election.

Pratt suggested that a potential NDC administration would encounter significant obstacles with the judiciary.

He highlighted ongoing tensions, noting that the NDC has accused Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo and President Akufo-Addo of attempting to manipulate the Supreme Court by adding five new Justices, following a request from the Chief Justice herself.

“This isn’t just a political maneuver of an already exiting failed President; it’s an assault on our democracy, a betrayal of public trust.”

“This is not the Ghana our forefathers fought for; this is not the democracy we pledged to uphold. Our nation deserves better, and it is our duty to stand up and protect the very foundations of our democratic society,” Fiifi Kwetey stated.

Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, General Secretary of the NDC, has criticized this move as undermining Ghana’s democracy.

He described it as a dangerous attempt to consolidate executive power and warned that it threatens the impartiality of the judiciary.

In his remarks during the Atta Mills Memorial Lecture in Accra on July 19, Pratt reiterated that the potential Mahama administration would face formidable challenges in holding accountable those in the Akufo-Addo administration due to the current judicial climate.

“Incoming Mahama administration will not find it easy to prosecute wrongdoers in the Nana Akufo-Addo administration.

“There will be the judiciary to contend with.”

Former President John Dramani Mahama, leader of the NDC, outlined the party’s proposed solutions to Ghana’s current economic turmoil during a recent gathering with Chiefs and Elders of La-Bawaleshie and Mempeasem in Ayawaso West Constituency. He urged the NPP government to prioritize economic recovery over empty promises.

Mahama underscored the severity of the nation’s crisis, citing high unemployment rates and widespread poverty affecting over 550,000 Ghanaians. He emphasized the importance of youth skills development through initiatives such as the National Apprenticeship Program.

Critiquing the NPP’s bid for re-election amid calls for increased taxes, Mahama voiced skepticism, asserting that Ghanaians are alert and cannot be deceived again.

Mahama also criticized the government’s failure to compensate victims of the 2019 Ayawaso shooting incident, highlighting the need for accountability and justice.

“The nation is currently in crisis, and the next NDC government is poised to transform the economy. Times have never been as hard as this; our nation is in crisis, and young people are sinking in unemployment. A recent report stated that 550,000 people in Ghana are living in poverty, and almost 2 million are not in proper employment. There are high unemployment rates.

“That is why we want to bring the National Apprenticeship Program. It is important for the youth to acquire skills; if you want to travel, you need a skill to survive.

“They are asking us to give them another turn in office while making excuses to rationalise why we need additional taxes. It is enough; Ghanaians are wide awake; the NPP cannot lie to Ghanaians again.

“We need an experienced driver. If you have two buses, one with an experienced driver and one with an inexperienced driver, which one will you go for?” he asked.

  • UG economist descends on Mahama over claims of 8.1% economic growth rate for 2016

UG economist descends on Mahama over claims of 8.1% economic growth rate for 2016

Development economist George Domfe, a senior research fellow at the Centre for Social Policy Studies in the College of Humanities at the University of Ghana, has described a claim by the former president John Dramani Mahama that Ghana achieved a growth rate of 8.1% in 2016 as deceptive and a complete falsehood.

Dr Domfe made these remarks when he appeared on Saturday, July 13, 2024, on Movement Television in Accra on the Bɛkyerɛ Mu show, hosted by Gordon Asare Bediako.

Dr Domfe, who is also a fellow at the Institute of Progressive Governance, said that at a meeting with the Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA) held recently, Mahama took on the Akufo-Addo administration, asserting that the 8.1% economic growth he bequeathed to the current government has shrunk drastically.

This, the University of Ghana economist said, is factually inaccurate and a complete fabrication.

“Former president Mahama met members of GUTA recently and declared that the sound economy he left for Akufo-Addo has been greatly mismanaged.

“He stated categorically that he left a robust economy, with a growth rate of 8.1% when he left office. This is a complete lie, very deceptive coming from the former president,” Dr Domfe said.

Domfe could not fathom why press who met the former president at his media encounter on 7 July did not ask him to prove his claim that his government had achieved 8.1% economic growth.

Questioning the professionalism of Ghanaian journalists and other media practitioners, Domfe agued that Mahama’s office “ought to have put him on the right path when he departed from the truth”.

    “Consistent inconsistencies”

“The economy under Mahama’s last year in office grew at 3.4% and that of the previous year, 2015, was 2.1%. It was 2.8% in 2014. In 2017 [the first year of the Akufo-Addo government], it grew at 8.1%; in 2018, 2018 a decline to 6.2%, and in 2019 it went up marginally at 6.5%,” Dr Domfe said.

“The COVID-19 pandemic came to disrupt the growth rate, throwing things out of gear as the global economic climate succumbed to the effects of the pandemic.

“I was shocked when the former president said that the economy got worse in 2018 and 2019 when he knew he was peddling falsehoods.

“The global community is watching him, and if he wins the election, it is there that they would not give any meaningful support to his government because of these lies he is telling the electorate,” he added.

Dr Domfe said that one of the fundamental flaws of Mahama, the presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress, is “his consistent inconsistencies over matters of national importance.”.

“Look at his consistent attacks on Free SHS,” Dr Domfe said. “Today, the same person who said if he had GHC2 billion he would not spend it on Free SHS is claiming ownership of the policy he bastardised.

“The NDC spent millions of cedis on advertisements to denigrate the Free SHS policy, labelling it a political gimmick, an impossibility and all that.

“The global community would get to know him for being an inconsistent leader – that is, if he is able to win the 2024 elections. They will take neither him nor Ghana seriously, and this is not good for the country’s image,” Domfe said.

Free SHS Policy: “It’s a misplaced priority” – Old tweet from Mahama resurfaces

Former President John Dramani Mahama recently faced scrutiny after a resurfaced tweet from his official account in 2012 contradicted his recent claims about the Free SHS policy.

In the old tweet, Mahama had criticized the policy, stating that it was a misplaced priority compared to implementing free education for primary school students first.

The resurfacing of the tweet occurred following Mahama’s recent comments asserting his role in launching the Free SHS policy under a progressive arrangement in 2015.

Critics have pointed to the old tweet as evidence that Mahama’s previous reservations about the policy may conflict with his current stance, raising questions about the sincerity of his assertions.

During a media encounter, Mahama dismissed concerns that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would cancel the Free SHS policy if it returned to power, emphasizing that the policy was here to stay.

He advocated for improvements in implementation, including addressing issues like the double track system and decentralizing the school feeding program.

The contrasting positions highlighted by the old tweet and Mahama’s recent statements have sparked debate and scrutiny among netizens and political observers alike.

John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has announced plans to introduce significant reforms if elected in the upcoming December 7, 2024, presidential elections.

He emphasized the establishment of a National Women’s Bank to support one million women-owned businesses and the implementation of a 24-hour economy initiative aimed at generating employment opportunities across Ghana.

I’ve no regrets supporting Mahama – Nero X

Highlife sensation Joseph Nkrumah Buabeng, popularly known as Nero X, has asserted that supporting a political candidate should not harm his music career.

The “Yawa Dey” hitmaker has shown his support for the National Democratic Congress candidate, John Dramani Mahama, by releasing a hit song titled “Mahama for 2024.”

Despite concerns from some Ghanaians that political endorsements can negatively impact an artist’s career, Nero X disagrees. In an interview with award-winning Entertainment host Tony Best on Akoma FM in Kumasi, Nero X pointed out that other artists like Daddy Lumba and Mr. Beautiful have successfully navigated their careers despite their political endorsements.

He emphasized that all aspects of life involve politics and that making a political choice should not result in criticism or abuse.

Nero X believes his support for John Mahama is based on his perception of Mahama as the right person to lead the country and not a decision that will affect his future career.

In anticipation of the 2024 general elections, Nero X has released a campaign song supporting John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The song, “Mahama for 2024,” premiered on YouTube on June 19 and highlights Mahama’s national development initiatives during his presidency.

The lyrics urge Ghanaians to support Mahama and the NDC to address the country’s current challenges, portraying Mahama as the leader capable of resolving issues created by the current administration.

Current condition of Ghanaians woeful – Obibini

Former President John Dramani Mahama recently commented that the Dutch Passport or PhD debate is primarily driven by the current economic crisis, a sentiment echoed by rapper Obibini.

He explained on Cape Coast-based Property FM that the severe economic hardships under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo make many Ghanaians feel less proud of remaining in their country.

Obibini emphasized that due to the dire economic conditions, people are inclined to prefer a Dutch passport over a Ghanaian PhD, as the challenging situation is undeniable.

He pointed out that in other countries, labor is respected, fair wages are paid, and people can see tangible results from their efforts within a year.

While acknowledging that some Ghanaians are thriving despite the economic difficulties and may not feel the need to emigrate, Obibini noted that others see working abroad as a more viable option to achieve financial stability and build a better future back in Ghana.

He concluded by recognizing that blessings come in various forms, and different people find success through different paths.

“I’m not going to lie to you about the current conditions of Ghanaians, which are very woeful and pathetic, making most people not feel proud of staying in our country.

“But rather, we want somebody’s country because when you go there, they respect your labour, they don’t cheat you, and you’re paid according to the number of hours that you work,” he observed.

“So in about 12 months, you have something solid you can look at and say that you’ve not wasted the year, but per our economic woes, it’ll depend because others are making it big here as well.

He added, “The person making it here might not need a Dutch passport, but someone else needs it to work abroad to build properties here in Ghana. God blesses people in so many ways.”

  • Ghana needs patriotic leaders, not unscrupulous leaders to sustain democracy — John Mahama

Ghana needs patriotic leaders, not unscrupulous leaders to sustain democracy — John Mahama

Presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, emphasized the crucial role of patriotic leadership in upholding democracy within a nation.

According to him, regardless of the duration of a country’s democratic practices, the integrity and honesty of its leaders are paramount.

A leader’s commitment to transparency and truthfulness is essential to safeguarding the will of the people and preventing any erosion of democratic principles.

“You can have the best constitution and the best regulation and laws, if an unscrupulous leader decides to take advantage of the situation, the person will do so.

“And if he does and we don’t have the population to push and hold him back, then he will get away with it,” Mr Mahama added.

The former President was delivering a public lecture on the theme: Sustainability of democracy in Africa: The Ghanaian experience,” in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, last Wednesday.

It was organised by the Christian Service University as part of activities marking its golden jubilee celebrations.
    Occurrence

Referring to the United States as a case study, Mr. Mahama pointed out that despite the country’s long-standing democratic traditions spanning more than two centuries, there was a notable incident where former President Donald Trump was able to provoke individuals to storm the Capitol Hill following his electoral defeat in 2020.

He highlighted this event to illustrate how vulnerabilities within even established democracies can be exploited.

Mr. Mahama emphasized that such occurrences could potentially transpire in any nation lacking a steadfast leader genuinely committed to the nation’s welfare and democratic values.

Mr Mahama further said that leadership, such as the Office of the President “are weighty and must be approached with utmost seriousness”.

“Ghanaians are in dire straits and this is not the time for comedy or concert party,” he said.

On the December 7 general election, the former President said that following experiences learnt from the last elections in 2020, the NDC was going into the upcoming poll with its own referee by remaining vigilant to ensure every vote cast for the party was accounted for.

“We will enter the ring with our own referee by taking advantage of every instrument we are afforded to make sure that the vote you cast for me is protected and counted,” he said.

Mr Mahama explained that the reason the NDC always accused the current Electoral Commission (EC) of being in bed with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government was due to its disposition that had consistently shown that it could not be trusted.

“Indeed, it is also a fact that this government concocted reasons to remove the plain Electoral Commissioners and replaced them with people of their choice,” he alleged. Mr Mahama further said that although the President has the power to appoint members of the commission, such members should not be people with known political affiliations.

He argued, however, that certain members of the current commission are influenced by political affiliations, citing one individual who purportedly serves as a patron for a youth organization associated with the NPP called Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON).

“This commission has shown that it cannot be neutral. A commissioner has said that the NDC is a serious existential treat to Ghana’s democracy, and he is still there.

“How do you expect such a person to conduct a free and fair election?” he asked.

Mr Mahama said the NDC was not expecting the EC to rig the elections in their favour, but was only calling for fairness to ensure that the will of the people was respected.

    Mahama’s 2025 Ministerial list leaks

A leaked ministerial list for John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer for the 2024 general election, has surfaced before the crucial December 7 polls.

Dr. Randy Abbey, host of “Good Morning Ghana” on Metro TV, Martin Kpebu, a private legal practitioner, and Kevin Ekow Taylor, host of “With All Due Respect” on Loud Silence TV, have been suggested for the roles of Youth and Sports Minister, Information Minister, and Attorney General and Minister for Justice, respectively.

In a leaked letter addressed to the Secretary of the NDC’s Appointments Committee and signed by Mahama, the proposals are based on optimistic forecasts from credible agencies such as Fitch Solutions, the Economist Intelligence Unit, and Global Info Analytics, predicting a favorable outcome for the NDC.

Additional names on the list include Stan Xoese Dogbe as Chief of Staff; Joyce Bawa Mogtari as Executive Secretary to the President; Kofi Totobi Quakyi as National Security Advisor; Col. Larry Gbevlo-Lartey (Rtd) as National Security Coordinator; James Agalga for Defense; and Peter Lanchene Toobu for Interior.

The list, formulated during a campaign meeting attended by Mahama, also features Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, the embattled Minority leader, slated for the Ministry of Finance; Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for Foreign Affairs; Peter Boamah Otokunor for Agriculture; John Abdulai Jinapor for Energy; Julius Debrah for Trade and Industry; and Dr. Edward Omane Boamah as the proposed Health Minister.

Other proposed appointees are Dominic Akuritinga Ayine for Education; Kwame Awuah-Darko for Lands and Natural Resources; Samuel Nartey George for Communications; Felix Kwakye Ofosu for Roads and Transport; and Dorcas Affo-Toffey for Gender.

Mahama stated that positions for Members of Parliament and Parliamentary Candidates on the list would be secured upon their victory in the Parliamentary elections.

The NDC plans to officially announce the list on January 8, 2025, a day after Mahama’s anticipated swearing-in as President. The main objective of presenting this list ahead of time, according to the leaked letter, is to ensure the NDC government is ready to start promptly and meet the high expectations of Ghanaians.

Mahama emphasized that the individuals on this list have shown exceptional dedication and service to the party, greatly contributing to its electoral success through their unwavering efforts and loyalty.

The letter directed the Appointments Committee to conduct the necessary background checks and vetting processes to verify the competence and suitability of the proposed individuals for their respective roles.

It is worth noting that Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the party’s national chairman, during the presentation of Prof. Opoku Agyemang as running mate on April 24, 2024, advised party members to avoid infighting over positions in the next Mahama administration. He also cautioned against complacency from polls favoring the NDC, warning that internal disputes could dampen supporters’ enthusiasm.

Subsequently, allegations surfaced that Mahama was selling positions within the party, with reports suggesting that, in some cases, the same position had been sold to multiple individuals, favoring those with the most financial influence.

I’ll establish a dedicated television channel for the creative arts industry – Mahama

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has pledged to establish a dedicated television channel for the creative arts industry if he wins the 2024 election. Speaking at a policy dialogue with creative arts stakeholders held at the AH Hotel in Accra on Friday, June 7, 2024, the former President emphasized the importance of diversifying revenue streams for creatives beyond ticket sales by leveraging viewership.

“On the digital terrestrial television, we will acquire a special channel for the creative arts. It will be an events channel where you can display all your work. If you have a big show like Stonebwoy performing or Amandzeba performing, or a large event featuring many performers, we will have the technology to make that show payable. So even though it will be on the DTT, you would have to pay electronically and then you will be given a code to watch,” he explained.

Mahama noted that, unlike in other parts of the world where creatives are among the wealthiest individuals, the same cannot be said for Ghana. “The creative arts sector is incredibly important and has the potential to generate millions of jobs. Many young people are brimming with talent but lack the opportunities to showcase it. By solidifying the foundation of the creative industry, we can create numerous opportunities for our youth,” he remarked.

In anticipation of the NDC’s manifesto launch, Mahama also outlined additional strategies aimed at elevating the creative industry should they be granted the mandate to govern once again.

I would prioritize stabilizing the economy and restoring a stable currency if voted back – Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama emphasized that if re-elected as president, his primary focus would be on stabilizing the economy and restoring a strong currency.

He pledged to implement an urgent economic recovery plan and fiscal consolidation strategy, starting with a national economic dialogue within the first hundred days of his tenure.

Addressing the 8th CEOs Summit in Accra on May 27, 2024, Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), reiterated, “Our top priority will be stabilizing the economy and bolstering the currency. We will swiftly implement an economic recovery and fiscal consolidation plan after conducting a national economic dialogue within a hundred days of taking office.”

Mahama also expressed concern over the persistent challenges facing the Ghanaian Cedi, criticizing the government’s inaction in mitigating the currency’s rapid depreciation against major trading currencies, notably the Dollar.

He highlighted grim economic indicators such as a spike in unemployment to 14.7% from 8.5% in 2017, record-high inflation surpassing 25%, and soaring interest rates ranging from 30% to 50%.

Additionally, he pointed out the significant devaluation of the Cedi, which has exceeded 15 Ghana Cedis to the US dollar.

Despite these challenges, Mahama accused the government of neglecting critical measures to cut expenditures, opting instead to prioritize comfort spending over transformative infrastructure investments essential for national progress.

The 8th CEO Summit, themed “Reigniting Business and Economic Growth: Charting A Path Forward; Economic Diversification and Artificial Intelligence Transformation. A Private-Public Sector CEO Dialogue and High Impact Learning,” provided a platform for discussions on revitalizing the economy and leveraging technology for growth.

Vote for me to revamp TOR – Mahama

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has promised to rejuvenate the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) should he win the upcoming December 7 general elections.

Mahama outlined plans for a collaborative effort between the private and public sectors to revive the nation’s struggling oil refinery.

During a meeting with stakeholders in the petroleum downstream sector in Accra, Mahama emphasized that TOR would receive dedicated attention under his forthcoming administration.

Acknowledging the inefficiencies associated with state-owned enterprises, Mahama expressed openness to private partnerships to reactivate and manage the refinery.

He stressed the importance of transparency in inviting private participation or partnerships.

“We need to look again at how we can bring the refinery back in place. But I do think that the problems we have with running that refinery is because it is a state-owned enterprise.

“And we all know the inefficiencies that go with state-owned enterprises. And so we are open to private partnership in terms of bringing that refinery back into operation and running it, but we think that whatever private partnership or private participation is invited, it must come through a transparent process.”

Ghana doesn’t need a joker but a focused, trustworthy president – Apaak jabs Bawumia

Dr. Clement Apaak, representing Builsa South in Parliament, has responded to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s recent comments, where Bawumia stated that his remarks about compensating churches were meant in jest.

Apaak emphasized that the present circumstances demand a serious leader, not one who jests, given the nation’s pressing issues.

Vice President Bawumia clarified that his previous statement about compensating churches rather than taxing them was misconstrued. He explained that he intended to acknowledge the significant contributions of religious institutions in areas such as education and healthcare, advocating for further support for their efforts.

However, Apaak, known for his critical stance towards Bawumia, dismissed the notion of considering a leader he labeled as a “comical liar” for the presidency.

He stressed the need for a competent and sincere leader to address the country’s challenges, advocating for the visionary leadership of former President John Dramani Mahama.

Mr Apaak asserted that Mahama is the best-suited candidate to navigate the nation through its difficulties, emphasizing Mahama’s qualities of sincerity, honesty, and vision.

“Now is not the time to consider a comical liar. Certainly not a joker at this critical juncture.

“With the serious challenges we face as a nation, we need a serious, focused, visionary, sincere, and honest leader. This leader is John Dramani Mahama, the man equipped to tackle our challenges, not a joker.”

PDS scandal: Akufo-Addo should be blamed for $190m compact loss – Mahama

Former President, John Dramani Mahama, has expressed his dismay at the squandering of $190 million designated for private sector involvement in electricity distribution under the US Millennium Compact.

Taking to Facebook, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer criticized the “corrupt, ‘yenkyendi’, and cronyistic governance practices” he attributed to President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the loss of the $190 million US Millennium Compact.

The former president pledged that he “will work diligently to enhance private sector efficiency in the electricity distribution system, including metering, revenue management, and fault response,” when he is reelected as president in the upcoming December 7 general elections.

Mahama vowed to prioritize enhancing private sector efficiency in electricity distribution, focusing on metering, revenue management, and fault response, should he regain the presidency in the upcoming December 7 general elections. He also pledged a thorough investigation into the PDS scandal to ensure accountability.

The Power Distribution Services (PDS) Ghana Limited takeover, a contentious deal where the Ghanaian government awarded a 25-year concession to manage the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), was suspended in July 2019 amidst fraud allegations.

In March 2019, Ghana was poised to receive crucial funding of $190 million for long-term infrastructure sustainability and financial recovery in the energy sector as part of the second tranche of the MCC power compact.

However, due to the terminated concession agreement with PDS, the US government halted the fund transfer, emphasizing the importance of private sector involvement under MCC’s Ghana Power Compact.

    Below is the full statement.

    Dear fellow Ghanaians,

It’s disheartening to learn that the $190 million we negotiated for private sector participation in electricity distribution under the US Millennium Compact has been lost due to Nana Addo and Bawumia’s corrupt, ‘yenkyendi’, and cronyistic governance practices.

This is unacceptable, and we deserve better as a people.

As I gear up to assume the presidency in January 2025, thanks to your votes and endorsement in this year’s election, I want to assure you that I will work diligently to enhance private sector efficiency in the electricity distribution system, including metering, revenue management, and fault response.

My administration will prioritise accountability and ensure a thorough investigation of the PDS scandal to hold those involved accountable.

We can work together to build a brighter future for Ghana’s power sector that benefits citizens and businesses.

Let’s stand together, fight against corruption and cronyism, and work towards building the Ghana we want.

‘Of course, I’ll not protect your ‘legacy’ of corruption, misgovernance’ – Mahama fires back at Akufo-Addo

Former President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, has responded to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s recent remarks about his potential impact on the country’s future if elected in the 2024 general elections.

In a statement on his X platform, Mahama retorted, “I won’t protect your ‘legacy’ of corruption, misgovernance, arrogance, ineptitude, a bankrupt economy, increased unemployment, and driving more of our people into poverty.”

Akufo-Addo, during a mini rally in Doboro, Greater Accra, had urged Ghanaians to reject Mahama in the upcoming elections, citing a lack of confidence in Mahama’s ability to lead the country forward.

Encouraging citizens to register for the Limited Voter registration exercise, Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of voting, stating, “Your vote is your power.”

He further endorsed Dr. Bamwua, expressing confidence in his ability to continue the progress made during his administration, saying, “I have worked with him for the past seven and a half years, and I know he can continue the good work.”

Akufo-Addo has no respect for anybody; dumsor is getting out of hand – Rev Abraham Lamptey

Apostle Abraham Lamptey, the founder and leader of Believers House of Worship International, has voiced his disapproval of Ghana’s ongoing power crisis in a recent sermon to his congregation.

The respected religious figure criticized the government’s handling of the situation, accusing them of disrespect towards the people.

During his address over the weekend, Apostle Lamptey pointedly questioned the silence of those who had previously criticized former President John Dramani Mahama for similar power challenges but had turned a blind eye to the current outages under President Akufo-Addo-Addo‘s administration.

Expressing concern over the politicization of crucial issues, he emphasized the seriousness of the power crisis and urged the government to provide a clear timetable for addressing it.

He lamented the lack of transparency from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) regarding the reasons behind the outages.

“They don’t respect anybody. Akufo-Addo has no respect for anybody. ECG is not telling us what is wrong. Nobody is talking. The Akan chiefs, we heard you during the era of former President Mahama. Have you lost your voice now? Those prophets who prophesied about the victory of the NPP, was this part of your prophecies? What is happening to Ghana? Nobody respects anybody to say that today, the dumsor will affect residents in Mamaprobi and the next one will affect Odorkor residents.
What is wrong with us? We deserve to be treated and seen as human beings, not sheep or goats,” Rev Lamptey stated.

Apostle Lamptey also criticized the government’s campaign promises, suggesting that they were made out of desperation rather than genuine wisdom.

He expressed disappointment in Ghanaian professionals seeking opportunities abroad, citing a lack of effective leadership as the root cause.

In a passionate plea, he urged Ghanaians, especially his church members, not to succumb to political manipulation and to speak out against injustices on social media.

He called for a return to accountability and effective governance, highlighting the need for leaders to respect and listen to the concerns of the people.

Addressing Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh directly, Apostle Lamptey called for a more empathetic and informative approach in addressing the nation about the power crisis.

He cautioned against the growing disconnect between those in power and the citizens, urging for humility and genuine dialogue to resolve pressing issues.

Bawumia deserves a chance unlike failed Mahama who has already proved himself -Sefwi Chief

During a recent campaign stop by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the Western-North Region, a member of the Sefwi Traditional Council voiced support for Bawumia’s presidential bid, contrasting it with former President John Dramani Mahama‘s previous term.

The council member highlighted Mahama’s perceived failures during his presidency, likening it to a caretaker who neglected a cocoa farm, resulting in its decline.

“I am speaking for all of us here. Let’s say I have a cocoa farm which I entrusted to a caretaker. This caretaker allowed the cocoa to be affected by swollen shoot and other viruses, for which I sacked him.

“He has gone and returned, seeing that the cocoa is doing better, and is asking me to hand it over to him again. Would you hand it over to him?” the chief submitted during a question-and-answer session at a meeting with traditional leaders.

He urged against handing over leadership to Mahama again, citing his prior performance as a reason for skepticism.

“We won’t hand it back to him to destroy the cocoa farm again. This is about former President John Mahama, who has been president before. The issue would be different if he had never been president; we would consider giving him a chance, but he has been there before. We saw what he did, and as Ghanaians, we didn’t like it, which is why we voted him out. Today, he has returned and is asking that we vote him back.

“I am pleading that we all keep this in mind and use it to campaign against him,” he told the gathering.

The chief rallied other traditional leaders to actively campaign for Bawumia, emphasizing the need for a leader who has yet to prove himself as president, unlike Mahama.

This endorsement comes as Bawumia officially begins his campaign for the upcoming 2024 general election, where he is expected to face off against contenders like Mahama, who has secured the nomination as the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress.

Cecilia Dapaah’s case cannot be closed without concluding remarks from FBI – Edudzi Tameklo

The Head of Legal Affairs for the National Democratic Congress, Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has expressed skepticism regarding the thoroughness of the investigation into the alleged corruption case involving former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah.

His doubts arose following the commitment made by the NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, to revisit the case for further scrutiny if elected in the 2024 general election.

During an interview on Eyewitness News with Umaru Sanda Amadu, Mr. Edudzi raised concerns about the decision of the Special Prosecutor to transfer the money laundering aspect of the case to the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO).

He pointed out that the Special Prosecutor had previously indicated the emergence of new evidence suggesting that funds were transferred to Ms. Dapaah by her niece from the United States. This development led to the involvement of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to investigate the origin of these funds.

Mr. Tameklo, who is also a private legal practitioner, questioned whether the FBI had concluded its investigation by the time EOCO forwarded the case to the Attorney General’s Office for advice.

He expressed support for John Mahama’s decision to reopen the case, citing unresolved questions surrounding the investigation.

“So, prior to the special prosecutor referring the money laundering case to EOCO, for further investigation, the special prosecutor had already given the indication that the FBI is doing part of the investigation. As we speak and at the time the EOCO sent that docket to the Attorney General’s Office for its advice or opinion, has the FBI concluded its investigation relative to the money laundering aspect?

“… If that has not been done, why will Madam Tiwaa, submit an incomplete docket to the attorney general, that is very key. We need to know, has the FBI concluded its investigation relative to the monies from the niece of Cecilia Dapaah. Until those questions are answered positively, it clearly shows that the investigations are incomplete and therefore, the position taken by John Mahama, that with the benefit of political power and executive authority, he is going to allow for further investigations into this matter and it is completely welcoming,” he said.

Hassan Ayariga, the founder of the All People’s Congress, has asserted that President Akufo-Addo’s failures in office have created the opportunity for former President John Dramani Mahama to seek a comeback.

During an interview on the Class Morning Show with Kwame Dwomoh-Agyemang on Friday, April 26, 2024, Ayariga stated that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had dashed the hopes of Ghanaians before he was elected.

Reflecting on the country’s current state after eight years, Mr Ayariga questioned whether President Akufo-Addo’s performance surpassed that of his predecessor.

“People gave him so much hope, and when we were saying that he would not be the best candidate, Ghanaians didn’t believe us and gave President Nana Akufo-Addo the mandate.

“Eight years down the lane, where are we as a country? Can we say that President Akufo-Addo has performed better than the former president? The answer is still no, even though I’m not supporting the former president,” Ayariga added.

Ayariga suggested that Mahama’s decision to contest in the 2024 general elections was driven by Akufo-Addo‘s abysmal governance.

Regarding economic indicators such as inflation and the strength of the Cedi, Ayariga argued that Akufo-Addo’s administration falls short of Mahama’s performance.

FLASHBACK: Vote for change if you’re tired of dumsor – Akufo-Addo tells Ghanaians

During the height of Ghana’s severe power supply crisis under former President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, Akufo-Addo was actively campaigning for his first presidency.

In the midst of the prevalent dumsor crisis, Akufo-Addo consistently criticized the government’s handling of the situation, using various platforms to draw attention to the issue.

In a notable tweet dated November 16, 2016, at 9:00 AM, Akufo-Addo urged Ghanaians to vote for change, using the hashtag #VoteForChange, expressing dissatisfaction with dumsor, incompetence, mismanagement, corruption, and other perceived shortcomings of the Mahama administration.

Interestingly, this tweet has resurfaced at a time when Ghana is experiencing recurrent unannounced power outages, leading many to draw parallels to the dumsor era.

“#VoteForChange if you’re tired of dumsor, incompetence, mismanagement, corruption, celebrated mediocrity, inflated infrastructure contracts,” his tweet of November 16, 2016, at 9:00 AM, said.

Despite government denials, particularly through the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), suggesting that the outages may be due to localized faults, calls for a timetable for power outages have been disregarded.

Instead, citizens have been advised to devise their own schedules for managing the outages. Meanwhile, the Ashanti Democrats have announced plans to bring the Dumsor Vigil from Kumasi to Accra.

The presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has vowed to address security concerns in the six recently established regions by establishing military barracks in each region if he wins the 2024 elections.

The regions in question are Savannah, North East, Bono East, Ahafo, Western North, and Oti.

During his speech in Gambaga, located in the North East Region, as part of his Building the Ghana We Want Tour, Mahama emphasized the pressing need for improved security in these new regions.

He underscored the importance of taking proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of residents and outlined plans to bolster security infrastructure and respond swiftly to emerging threats by setting up military barracks in each region.

“We are going to prioritise the completion of abandoned projects. All six new regions are going to have military barracks so that the Ghana Army will be present in all the regions. In addition, we are going to form joint military and police anti-armed robbery squads and one of those squads will be here in the North East to fight armed robbery.”

“Because we want you to have peace and security to be able to go about your duties and we know that our 24-hour economy policy cannot work unless there is security and safety for everybody,” he explained.

Joyce Bawah Mogtari, the Special Aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, has denied allegations suggesting she obtained a scholarship from the Government of Ghana during her academic pursuits.

These allegations, purportedly propagated by certain members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on various social media platforms and other channels, are aimed at besmirching her reputation and that of her family.

In response to these claims, Madam Mogtari vehemently refuted any receipt of government scholarship, stressing that the accusations lack merit and are intended to provoke public disdain against her.

She affirmed that the dissemination of such false information is a deliberate effort to undermine her credibility and integrity.

Taking to social media on Saturday, April 13, Madam Mogtari urged the public to disregard the baseless claims, reiterating her firm stance that she has never been a beneficiary of a scholarship from the Government of Ghana.

Furthermore, she clarified that she has never been enrolled as a student at Portsmouth University, thereby debunking another facet of the misinformation campaign aimed at tarnishing her reputation.

“Disregard the propaganda and falsehood being peddled by the dishonest NPP apparatchiki that I benefited from a Government of Ghana Scholarship.

“Let me state without any fear of equivocation or contradiction that I have never applied for or received a grant or scholarship from either the GNPC or Ghana’s Scholarship Secretariat.

Akufo-Addo has severally breached Ghana’s democratic norms – Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama has leveled accusations against the Akufo-Addo administration, alleging that it has transgressed several crucial boundaries in Ghana’s democratic norms.

As the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahama asserted that President Akufo-Addo’s actions prioritize political expediency over the strengthening of democratic institutions, thereby detrimentally impacting Ghana’s democratic legacy.

In a post on his X platform, he said “The Nana Akufo Addo and Bawumia-led administration has crossed many red lines in our democratic practice.

“Their deliberate acts of putting political convenience ahead of democratic consolidation have left Ghana’s 4th Republic the poorer for it.”

Additionally, Mahama voiced concern over African governments’ tendencies to target businesses owned by their political adversaries.

He lamented that this practice inhibits the growth of wealthy African-owned enterprises and urged governments to refrain from actions detrimental to business growth.

During a panel discussion at the 2nd edition of the Afro-Heritage Conference and Awards in Lagos, Nigeria, Mahama emphasized the importance of investing in young people to drive innovation that benefits ordinary citizens across the continent.

He urged African leaders to prioritize such investments to foster progress and opportunity.

We must not be afraid for our business people to succeed, we must not be afraid to have rich Africans.

“Governments must not come and think that because some other governments created this business, then we must kill it. That’s part of the problem that we have. We must believe in ourselves, in adversity comes opportunities.”

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has made a resolute declaration that if elected president in the forthcoming December polls, he will not shield his appointees involved in corrupt practices.

During a dialogue with members of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), Mr. Mahama emphasized the importance of demanding accountability from leaders for the taxes paid by citizens.

He outlined his plans to establish an independent valuation office aimed at preventing sole sourcing and procurement irregularities.

Addressing concerns about the misuse of taxpayers’ money, Mr. Mahama stated, “One of the reasons why you are suffering in terms of imposition of revenue and taxes is because of the expenditure side. If the government is raising the money and misusing it through sole sourcing, procurement and so forth, it is your taxpayers’ money that is being wasted and so we must take an interest in that and that is why I have suggested that we are going to have an independent valuation office and any sole sourcing contract must go for value-for-money audit to make sure that it has not been inflated.”

Additionally, Mr. Mahama underscored the necessity of combating corruption and empowering anti-corruption institutions to function effectively.

He pledged not to interfere if investigations by institutions like EOCO or OSP reveal misconduct among his ministers.

Mr. Mahama emphasized his commitment to holding his administration accountable and ensuring that those found guilty of wrongdoing are held responsible, signaling a firm stance against corruption within his government if elected.

“Aside from that, we must make sure that we cut down on corruption and allow the anti-corruption institutions to work.

“If people have taken advantage of the country, they must be dealt with, and that is why I said when I come into the office and I am swearing in the ministers, I will caution them, and if they don’t listen and do not do their work well and EOCO or OSP come after you, I am not a clearing agent and I won’t interfere and I will let them do their work,” Mr Mahama said.

  • I will scrap 22 levies, fees imposed by NPP at ports – Mahama

I will scrap 22 levies, fees imposed by NPP at ports – Mahama

Former President, John Dramani Mahama has pledged to abolish several levies imposed on the clearing of goods at the ports, expressing astonishment at the existence of 22 levies and fees in this regard.

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) highlighted some of these levies, including the Special Import Levy, Ghana Export/Import Bank levy, Ghana Education Trust Fund, Ghana Education Trust Fund Network Charge, African Union Import e-Levy, and Covid Health Recovery levy.

Mahama also urged Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to promptly fulfill his promise of scrapping the E-levy and other taxes, emphasizing that Dr. Bawumia should initiate the process without delay, given his pivotal role in the current government.

Dr. Bawumia had previously vowed to eliminate the controversial E-Levy to facilitate Ghana’s transition to a cashless economy, affirming that there would be no taxes on digital payments under his administration.

Moreover, the NPP’s 2024 flagbearer had pledged to eradicate other taxes, including VAT on electricity, emissions tax, and betting tax.

“To accomplish this, there will be no taxes on digital payments under my administration. The e-levy will therefore be abolished,” Dr Bawumia announced.

However, during an address to members of GUTA on Tuesday, April 9, Mr. Mahama cautioned against blindly trusting these assurances.

He urged GUTA to hold Dr. Bawumia accountable and to insist on the immediate elimination of certain nuisance taxes introduced by the current government.

  • What Mahama plans to do with Sanitation Ministry if he becomes president

What Mahama plans to do with Sanitation Ministry if he becomes president

Former President, John Dramani Mahama has raised concerns about the effectiveness of the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, indicating his plans to abolish it upon assuming office.

Mahama expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of sanitation in Ghana, suggesting that the country appears dirtier now than before the establishment of the Sanitation Ministry, which was previously under the Local Government Ministry.

In an address to students at the Wisconsin International University College in Accra on Wednesday, April 03, 2024, Mahama outlined his reasons for intending to shut down the ministry.

“We will close down the Ministry of Sanitation, one to reduce expenditure and two, I don’t see any use. Our country is dirtier than when there was no Ministry of Sanitation. Indeed, this country was cleaner when our country was under local government than as a standalone ministry and so we’ll close down that ministry and we’ll take the sanitation schedule back to local government,” he noted.

“With cleanliness, we think that it’s the duty of the district assemblies. Every assembly has an obligation to make sure that its district is clean and so we must decentralise sanitation to the district level,” he added.

Mahama emphasized the need to decentralize sanitation management to district assemblies, arguing that cleanliness should be the responsibility of local authorities.

Furthermore, Mahama disclosed his plans to merge the Transport and Aviation ministries, as well as the Information and Communication ministries, as part of efforts to streamline government expenditure.

He also indicated that the appointment of District Chief Executives (DCEs) would be contingent upon the cleanliness of their respective districts.

Mahama concluded by stating, “Because we want to reduce government expenditure, it’s not only the Sanitation Ministry, in transport, Aviation and Railway, we are going to close them down and send them to the transport ministry. We are going to combine Information and Communications again, and so we want to reduce the number of ministries,” he stated.

“So when we are going to change district chief executives and you have a dirty district, we’ll remove you and bring someone who can make sure that the district is clean,” he added.

  • God would be angry with me if I use GHC400 million to build a National Cathedral – Mahama

God would be angry with me if I use GHC400 million to build a National Cathedral – Mahama

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has voiced strong opposition to the substantial funds being allocated to the National Cathedral project.

In his view, this allocation represents a misplaced priority that overlooks critical collective goals in favour of individual objectives.

Mahama emphasised that the presidency should primarily serve the collective welfare of the people, with decisions and expenditures reflecting this overarching objective.

He highlighted pressing issues within the education sector, such as the lack of textbooks, desks, school feeding programs, and well-ventilated classrooms, which he believes deserve immediate attention and investment.

Expressing his stance to the media, Mahama stated that he would have directed the GHC400 million earmarked for the National Cathedral towards a range of essential projects within education and other vital sectors.

He firmly stated, “GHC400 Million spent on the National Cathedral project is not right; there are more concerning issues in the educational sector which merit attention, such as school feeding programs, textbooks, among others. God will be angry with me if I use GHC400 Million to build a National Cathedral.”

Criticism of the National Cathedral project extends beyond Mahama’s remarks, with many individuals nationwide questioning its necessity and timing, particularly given the prevailing economic challenges facing the country.

Since its inception in 2020, the project initiated by President Akufo-Addo has not yielded tangible benefits, further fueling public discontent and scrutiny.

  • Your dumsor timetable comment was cruel – Mahama tells NAPO

Your dumsor timetable comment was cruel – Mahama tells NAPO

Former President, John Dramani Mahama has criticized Energy Minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh for his dismissal of those requesting a schedule for power outages, branding it as “most disrespectful.”

Mahama’s remarks came in response to Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s statement that individuals seeking a dumsor timetable are harboring malicious intentions towards Ghana and should create their own schedule if they desire one.

“Ask those who want it to bring it if there is [one],” the Manhyia South MP told journalists on Monday, 25 March 2024, at the inauguration of the governing New Patriotic Party’s campaign team in the Ashanti Region.

“I haven’t seen any timetable,” he noted, adding: “The Electricity Company of Ghana says that there’s no timetable coming,” so “why do you want to bring a timetable?”

“For what purpose? Why would somebody wake up and wish for evil and wish bad for the country?” he wondered.

During the inauguration of the governing New Patriotic Party’s campaign team in the Ashanti Region on Monday, March 25, 2024, the Manhyia South MP asserted, “Ask those who want it to bring it if there is [one].”

He emphasized that he hasn’t seen any such timetable and questioned the purpose behind its creation, particularly when the Electricity Company of Ghana has stated that no such schedule is forthcoming.

Expressing concern over the lack of planning due to the erratic power supply, Mahama addressed members of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) during a stakeholder engagement.

He highlighted mismanagement in generating assets and the use of ESLA funds, which were intended to finance debt, as contributing factors to the return of dumsor.

Mahama emphasized the importance of citizens having a schedule to plan effectively and criticized Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s assertion that those seeking a timetable have malicious intentions towards the country. He described this stance as disrespectful to Ghanaians and customers of electricity, emphasizing the necessity of a stable macroeconomic environment for business growth and fiscal consolidation.

“The country has been plunged into darkness. Mismanagement about generating assets and collateralisation of ESLA, which was meant to provide the resources to finance current and legacy debt, has led us back to dumsor. The best government can do is eat a humble pie, take responsibility for the problem and work to address it. Unfortunately, that is not the case. I’m aware that businesses and households cannot plan because of the erratic power situation”.

“While citizens demand a schedule to enable them to plan, which is the least the responsible government should be doing, Energy Minister Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, who was one of the frontline participants of the ‘Dumsor must stop’ campaign while in opposition, is reported to have said, those asking for a load-shedding timetable wish ill for the country, and they should publish their schedule”.

“This is most disrespectful to Ghanaians and the customers of electric power. There is absolutely no doubt that businesses strive in a stable macroeconomic environment where revenue measures are designed to motivate the local production for growth and fiscal consolidation.”

Supporting a political party makes you stupid; I prefer supporting a personality – Bongo Ideas

Social media commentator Albert Nat Hyde, widely known as Bongo Ideas, has emphasized the importance of supporting personalities over political parties.

In a recent statement, he expressed that aligning with a specific individual within a political party is more meaningful than pledging loyalty to the party itself.

According to Bongo Ideas, following a political party can lead to feelings of foolishness and disappointment.

“I don’t support a political party, I support a personality. When you support a political party, it makes you feel stupid, I prefer to support a personality like John Dramani Mahama,” stated Bongo Ideas in an Onua TV interview.

Despite admiring figures like John Dramani Mahama and the late Atta Mills, Bongo Ideas clarified that he is not a supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

His outspoken nature has often sparked controversies, making him a prominent figure in social media discussions.

  • Ahwois could be hoarding secret information on Mahama’s health – Amidu

Former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu has suggested that there might be undisclosed information about the health condition of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, which the Ahwois are keeping from the public.

In response to the viral video and news reports regarding Kwesi Ahwoi’s statements during a party at the Ahwois’ office in Labone affirming Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang’s nomination as the National Democratic Congress’s running mate, Amidu indicated that those remarks were not simply a slip of the tongue.

In his recent epistle, Amidu explained that it is unlikely for Kwesi Ahwoi, a former Minister for The Interior and Ambassador to South Africa with expertise in security, intelligence, and diplomacy, to misspeak unless he possesses additional knowledge about Mahama’s health.

Implying that the Ahwois may have ulterior motives, Amidu cautioned John Mahama to be vigilant, even with Prof Naana Jane’s nomination, suggesting a deeper agenda within the Ahwoi family to control the NDC.

“The Ahwois and their cohort were so carried away by the success of hoodwinking John Mahama into nominating their surrogate as his running mate for the 2024 elections that they could not wait for the flagbearer to formally outdoor his running mate to the rank and file of the NDC. The Ahwois decided to exhibit their ownership of the NDC by organizing a special celebration of their feat in achieving the renomination of their surrogate, Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, as the NDC running mate at their offices on Church Street, Labone.

Kwesi Ahwoi, who had assumed the spokesmanship for the Ahwois and their cohort of the Church Street cabal, was so carried away with excitement that he made public what the cohort had been saying in the dark and whispering in the private rooms of their kitchen cabinet.

John Dramani Mahama’s date of birth is 29 November 1958, while that of the Ahwois’ surrogate, Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, is 22 November 1951. Consequently, if the Ahwois and their Church Street cohort are already thinking of John Mahama’s passing before the end of his four-year term, then there must be something they are privy to about John Mahama’s health status that Ghanaians do not know.

“The possibility that in addition to whatever health problems of John Mahama may be known to the Ahwois and their cohort, is there also a kitchen cabinet plan to send John Mahama to sleep early, like Professor Mills, should he perchance win the 2024 elections, to make assurance double sure that their enterprise for their surrogate to become President before 2024 and, therefore, face no opposition for the nomination for 2028 NDC flagbearership?” he wrote.

Martin Amidu further indicated that the supposed riposte from Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang to Kwesi Ahwoi immediately he made those ‘prepare to be president because anything could happen’ was not genuine.

He added that she only made those comments to smartly dissuade attention from the real intent of the Ahwois, who he described as a surrogate of the founding members of the National Democratic Congress.

“It was a crafty conspiratorial way of wishing John Mahama good health as a way of not giving out the plot of the Church Street cabal. One just has to read Lady Macbeth’s reception of Duncan King of Scotland and the plans already laid out for his treasonous murder that night in Shakespear’s Macbeth to understand the theatrics that was unfolding at the Church Street celebratory drama of the Ahwois,” he added.

According to Amidu, the Ahwois celebrated prematurely, revealing their desire for dominance within the NDC by organizing a special event to commemorate the renomination of their chosen candidate.

He speculated that the Ahwois might have inside information about Mahama’s health, given the significant age difference between him and Prof Naana Jane, leading to concerns about his longevity in office if he were to win the 2024 elections.

Furthermore, Amidu questioned the authenticity of Prof Naana Jane’s response to Kwesi Ahwoi’s remarks, suggesting it was a strategic move to divert attention from the Ahwois’ true intentions.

In Amidu’s view, the Ahwois’ actions mirror the manipulative tactics portrayed in Shakespeare’s Macbeth, implying a clandestine plot within the NDC.

Lady laments Ghana’s economic challenges; warns against opting for Mahama as a solution

A viral video circulating on social media features an unnamed woman vehemently opposing the choice of National Democratic Congress (NDC) Leader John Dramani Mahama as the remedy for Ghana’s economic woes.

The woman argues that Mahama has held numerous political positions within Ghana’s political framework but has failed to deliver substantial improvements.

She points out that despite serving as an Assemblyman, Member of Parliament, and President, Mahama’s impact on the well-being of Ghanaians has been minimal.

Expressing the view that Ghana requires an innovative leader capable of revitalising the country’s dwindling economy, she dismisses Mahama’s extensive experience as lacking in fresh ideas and solutions.

She firmly asserts that Mahama’s track record indicates he is not fit to lead Ghana forward.

“Mahama has nothing new to offer; his various roles have yielded little to no positive impact. His presidency was marked by failure. Ghana deserves a better leader to the current economic challenges,” the woman declared in a video shared on X platform.

  • Anti-LGBTQ Bill: Mahama condemns Presidency’s letter to Parliament ; it is unlawful

Anti-LGBTQ Bill: Mahama condemns Presidency’s letter to Parliament ; it is unlawful

Former President John Dramani Mahama, representing the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has strongly criticized the recent actions of the Presidency regarding the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill.

In a Town Hall meeting in Banda as part of his Oti Region tour, Mahama condemned the letter from the Presidency instructing Parliament not to send the Bill to President Akufo-Addo for assent.

Mahama argued that the Secretary to the President had overstepped legal boundaries by issuing such a directive, asserting that it goes against the constitutional obligation of Parliament to send every Bill to the President.

He emphasised that the letter’s tone was disrespectful and implied undue authority over Parliament.

“We all know that our tradition is against LGBTQ. No religion in Ghana accepts it. Christianity does not accept it, Islam does not, even the traditionalists also reject it. It is a taboo in Ghana.

“Parliament recently passed a Bill to be sent to the President for his approval. But he has refused to sign because he claims the case is in court so he will wait for the pronouncement by the Supreme Court.

“But this morning I woke up to see a letter from the Secretary to the President to Parliament warning them against transmitting the letter to the Presidency. But everyone who is a lawyer will tell you that the President’s secretary has no authority to write such a letter because Parliament is obligated by the constitution to send every Bill to the President. So you cannot tell Parliament not to do its job,” the former President said.

This controversy arose after the Office of the President officially requested Parliament to hold off on transmitting the Bill to President Akufo-Addo due to pending legal challenges in the Supreme Court.

The letter, signed by the Secretary to the President, Nana Asante Bediatuo, cited ongoing applications for an order of interlocutory injunction and advised against taking any action until the court resolves the issues.

Mahama’s criticism echoes sentiments expressed by Tamale South MP Haruna Iddrisu, who characterised the President’s office’s actions as hindering Parliament’s duties and seeking predominance over other state organs.

“That is unacceptable and must be fought by all persons who love democracy and cherish the principles and values of the 1992 Constitution. This is a monumental threat to Ghana’s democracy and a monumental threat to Parliament as an institution. By Article 93 we are clothed with legislative authority and mandate.

“If you study how the letter was written, the tone was disrespectful. He (Secretary to the President) wrote the letter as if he has more authority than Parliament,” he added.

The clash highlights the ongoing debate and legal battles surrounding the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill in Ghanaian politics, emphasizing the complex interplay between executive authority, legislative mandates, and legal procedures.

  • I intend to increase Accra’s water supply if elected President- Mahama

I intend to increase Accra’s water supply if elected President- Mahama

National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama laid out a comprehensive strategy to address the water scarcity issue in Accra, citing the city’s population growth as a contributing factor.

Emphasizing the necessity of proactive measures, Mahama highlighted the impact of Accra’s rapid urbanization on water resources.

While acknowledging previous advancements in water capacity during his and Professor Mills‘ tenures, he expressed concern about the stagnation in expansion efforts in recent years.

Mahama pledged to prioritise the expansion of water supply upon assuming office, citing the imperative need to plan ahead for the city’s continued growth.

“We also want to expand water supply to Accra. Accra is growing very fast. Recently, the Ghana Water Company complained that they can’t keep up with the supply of water because of the fast expansion of water. What you do is you plan ahead, and that is what we did.

“Between Professor Mills’ time and my time, we added 40 million gallons of water to Accra’s water supply. In the last eight years, there has not been a single drop expansion in Accra’s water supply. So why do you expect that the water will be enough?

“This is a city that is growing. And so after we added 40 million gallons, at least in eight years, you should have added another 20 million gallons. We have started planning ahead already that when we come into office, we are going to increase the water supply to Accra,” John Mahama stated during his ‘Building Ghana Tour.

  • We will use abandoned resources to finish abandoned and ongoing projects – Mahama

We will use abandoned resources to finish abandoned and ongoing projects – Mahama

Presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, has announced that if elected in the 2024 general elections, his administration will prioritize the completion of existing projects.

He emphasized that it would be more prudent to allocate resources towards finishing ongoing and stalled initiatives rather than starting new ones.

“I have said that we are not going to be in a hurry to start new projects. Whatever resources that we have, we are going to use it to continue and finish abandoned and ongoing projects so that we can start making use of them,” he said.

Mr. Mahama made these remarks during a townhall meeting in Wa over the weekend as part of his two-day tour of the Upper West Region under the theme “Building the Ghana We Want.” He addressed various groups, including labor unions, emphasizing his commitment to completing existing projects.

Specifically, Mr. Mahama mentioned the stalled projects at the SD Dombo University for Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS).

He pledged to finish these projects if elected president in 2025.

He recalled the late President John Evans Atta Mills’ promise of three key projects for the Wa campus of the University for Development Studies (UDS): an ultra-modern library, a lecture hall complex, and a students’ hostel facility.

While he initiated these projects during his presidency in 2013, they have since stalled.

“I know that all these projects are very important to facilitate teaching and learning in that university.

And so, when we come we will continue those projects and complete them so that you can make use of them,” he said.

Former President Mahama expressed disappointment over the lack of construction on the Wa-Tumu-Bolgatanga road, which has been neglected by successive governments.

He emphasized the road’s significance as it connects two regional capitals, providing a crucial shortcut for travelers between Wa and Bolgatanga.

Mahama pledged to prioritize the construction of this road if re-elected as president.
