  • Former NDC MP offers himself, Adongo to Bawumia for debate instead of Mahama

Former NDC MP offers himself, Adongo to Bawumia for debate instead of Mahama

Former Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency under the National Democratic Congress (NDC),Daniel Kwesi Ashaimah has issued a challenge to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

He proposed a debate involving himself and Honourable Isaac Adongo, MP for Bolgatanga Constituency, alongside the Vice President.

Ashaimah questioned the Vice President’s call for a debate with former President John Dramani Mahama, suggesting it lacked credibility. He recalled a past incident where Dr. Bawumia had dismissed Mahama’s debate request in 2016, telling him to engage farmers in his hometown instead.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, also the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has accused former President John Mahama of avoiding a live debate, insinuating that Mahama is unable to adequately explain his policies.

Addressing thousands of his supporters yesterday (July 10, 2024) in Bunkpurugu, North East Region, Dr. Bawumia said, “I am looking forward to a debate with John Mahama on the economy, on the country, on governance.” “But I am afraid that he is running away from a debate. His people say he doesn’t want to debate. I have never heard of an opposition leader who doesn’t want to debate. But he knows I will expose the emptiness of his policies.”

Mr. Ashaimah, however, lambasted Dr. Bawumia, painting him as lacking integrity and moral strength to initiate a debate.

He argued that a leader who has not clarified why Ghana’s economy is struggling, nor demonstrated his ability to fulfill promises made to his constituents, is not worthy of a debate.

According to Ashaimah, Mahama, as a candidate, has the prerogative to accept or reject a debate with someone he views as dishonest. Ultimately, he asserted that Dr. Bawumia lacks the former president’s sophistication.

Appearing on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the former lawmaker said, “In 2016, Mahama called for a debate, and Bawumia told him to go to his hometown and debate with businessmen and tell them why businesses were collapsing. He also went on to tell him to debate farmers about why fertilisers were being sold to them when, in actuality, they were never sold. That was what he told Mahama. Mahama is our flag bearer, and the decision to debate or not debate lies with him.

Bawumia should also travel to Walewale and explain why the promise to build a watermelon factory has not materialised. Mahama requested a debate in 2016, but your government refused to engage in one. You also wrote 177 questions to the late Amissah Arthur, which you have yet to answer. He should travel to Pawlugu and explain to his people why they spent our resources while there is no dam there. He should also explain to Ghanaians why the Bank of Ghana incurred losses of GH₵60.8 billion in two years.

He should also explain why they stole $50 million to dig the world’s most expensive hole. After that, he should return to debate with me (Ashaimah) and Isaac Adongo, so I will show him the Bank of Ghana Hospital, Ridge Hospital, Afari Hospital, Mampong, and Konongo Water projects, and they will show us theirs.

Take a look at the people that are talking and appealing for a debate. We will use the same fundamentals to evaluate you, such as inflation, the exchange rate, cedi depreciation, and debt-to-GDP growth. He should quit joking. Myself and Adongo are ready to debate him any time, any day.”

People are looking forward to a Bawumia-Mahama debate; forget the other parties – Nana B

The National Organiser of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has underscored the public anticipation for a debate between John Mahama, the main opposition party candidate, and the NPP flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia.

Mr. Boakye also known as Nana B emphasized that such a debate is crucial given the prominence of the NPP and NDC in Ghanaian politics.

Speaking on the JoyNews AM show, Mr. Boakye expressed the view that a debate between Dr. Bawumia and Mr. Mahama would provide a critical platform for discussing policy issues directly with the Ghanaian electorate.

He highlighted the importance of debates in clarifying the positions of both parties on key national issues, especially amidst discussions about the economy and policy decisions.

“I think that for me, we should not even include any other political party. I mean, these are the two main political parties. NPP, NDC, and I think they need to log on to this particular debate because, the NDC claims that a sitting vice president who is also the chairperson for the economic management team made some decisions, and they want to blame some of the challenges that we have regarding the economy on him. That is fine. That is their view. That view can be respected by some people. So why not debate?,” Mr. Boakye remarked.

He noted that organisations like the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), the Ghana Union of Traders Associations (GUTA), and the Trades Union Congress (TUC) are eagerly awaiting such a debate between the two main contenders for the presidency.

“People are looking for it, and it is very important we need to have it,” Mr. Boakye emphasized, highlighting the public interest in seeing both Dr. Bawumia and Mr. Mahama engage in an intellectual discussion about their respective policies and visions for Ghana’s future.

‘Empty’ Mahama running from debate – Bawumia

Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has criticized John Dramani Mahama, his counterpart from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for refusing to participate in a debate with him.

In response, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, spokesperson for the John Mahama Campaign Team, stated that there is no necessity for a debate between Mahama and Bawumia.

Speaking to supporters during the second leg of his nationwide campaign in Nalerigu on Thursday, July 11, Dr. Bawumia accused Mahama of evading the debate, alleging that he would expose Mahama’s impractical promises and confidently defeat him.

He labelled Mahama as “empty as an empty barrel”.

“I’m looking forward to a debate with John Mahama on the economy, the governance, the country, but I’m afraid he’s running away from a debate. Isn’t it? His people are saying he doesn’t want to debate, he doesn’t want to debate because he knows I will expose the emptiness of his policies, he says he has a 24- economy that he cannot explain.”

“He’s as empty as an empty barrel. He cannot explain it, none of his people can explain it. They say they will be exporting lions and elephants. But when we meet man-to-man, we can debate, and the country will see where our policies lie.

And that is where we should go. We should give the country an opportunity to listen to us. But if he refuses, I will continue to sell my policies to the country, and they will take a decision.”

Bawumia dares Mahama to have a presidential debate

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has openly challenged former President John Dramani Mahama, the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to a live presidential debate.

Dr. Bawumia’s call for a debate was done in a spirited address to thousands of supporters in Bunkpurugu, North East Region,

“I am looking forward to a debate with John Mahama on the economy, on the country, on governance,” Dr. Bawumia declared.

However, he expressed skepticism about the possibility of such a debate taking place, accusing Mahama of avoiding the challenge.

“But I am afraid that he is running away from a debate. His people say he doesn’t want to debate. I have never heard an opposition leader who doesn’t want to debate. But he knows I will expose the emptiness of his policies.”

Dr. Bawumia also criticized Mahama’s proposed “24-hour economy” plan, claiming that the former President and his team are unable to articulate and defend the details of this policy.

“He says he has a 24-hour economy which he cannot explain. It is as empty as an empty barrel. He cannot explain it and none of his people can explain it. They say they will be exporting lions and elephants,” Bawumia said, mocking the feasibility of Mahama’s proposals.

Emphasizing the importance of public discourse and transparency in the democratic process, Dr. Bawumia stated, “When we meet mano a mano, we can debate, and the country will see where our policies lie and that is where we should go. We should give the country an opportunity to listen to us. If he chooses not to debate, I’ll continue to sell my policies.”

  • Don’t compare your gov’t to Nkrumah’s, I am here – Mahama to NPP

Don’t compare your gov’t to Nkrumah’s, I am here – Mahama to NPP

The Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has cautioned the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) against comparing the achievements of the Akufo-Addo-led government with those of Ghana’s first president, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

During his unveiling in Kumasi on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, asserted that no president, including Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, has developed Ghana like President Akufo-Addo has since 2017.

“Since independence from 1957 till today, we have not had any president that has helped Ghana like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. I say from 1957 till today, you can bring your Kwame Nkrumah… no president has protected Ghana and moved the country forward like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo,” NAPO declared to thunderous applause.

However, addressing a rally on Tuesday evening in Ashaiman, former President Mahama condemned the attempt to compare the two governments, describing it as misguided and insulting to Ghanaians given the unparalleled achievements of the Nkrumah government.

“All the NPP is doing now is dabbling in propaganda. They claim they have honored all their promises. They say they are the best government since independence, not even Kwame Nkrumah’s government can be compared to them. Such a useless government, how can you compare yourself with Nkrumah’s government? Nkrumah was a visionary. Till date, let’s shut down the Akosombo Dam and see if we’ll have power supply in this country. Meanwhile, this dam was commissioned in 1965, and till now, it is the bulwark of our power supply in this country. Today, let us close the Tema Motorway and see if people can travel around in Ghana. Tema Harbour was built by Nkrumah. If we didn’t have the harbour, could we have been able to import things into Ghana? Kotoka Airport was built by Nkrumah.”

Mr. Mahama urged the NPP not to stretch the comparison as far back as Nkrumah’s government, challenging them to compare their record with that of his own administration.

“You dare not compare yourself to Nkrumah, don’t try! If the NPP wants to do a comparison, they should not do that with Nkrumah. Mahama is just here, I am around. Don’t do your comparison with Rawlings, Kufuor, or Mills. I did four years in government; you’ve also done four years. They should present their track record, and we’ll also present ours so that Ghanaians can compare. That comparison, the NPP is not courageous enough to do.”

In his speech, Mahama highlighted the significant projects initiated by Nkrumah that continue to benefit the country today, emphasizing the need for a more realistic and fair comparison of achievements.

He called on the NPP to focus on a more recent benchmark if they truly wanted to engage in a meaningful evaluation of their governance.

Acknowledge my efforts if you now support Free SHS – Akufo-Addo to Mahama

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on John Mahama, the National Democratic Congress’s flagbearer, to recognize his efforts in implementing the Free SHS policy.

President Akufo-Addo highlighted that when he first introduced the Free SHS policy, then-President Mahama was critical of the idea, but he now seems to want to take credit for it.

President Akufo-Addo made this statement in response to Mr. Mahama’s claim that his administration initiated the Free SHS policy in 2015.

During a media interaction on Sunday, July 7, Mr. Mahama denied accusations that he opposed the Free SHS policy, insisting that his government had started the program.

However, at the unveiling ceremony of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the NPP’s running mate, President Akufo-Addo urged Mr. Mahama to give him the recognition he deserves if he now sees the policy’s benefits.

“This man criticized us when we said we were going to implement the Free SHS policy. Now that Ghanaians have accepted the policy, he is saying he is the one who introduced Free SHS. Have you ever heard such a thing?”

“He indeed said that we are forgetful people. Will we forget this too?” President Akufo-Addo said.

“Today, the leader of the NDC claims he is the one who introduced Free SHS. If he introduced the policy, why did he criticize us when we intended to introduce it? He said if he had 2 billion cedis, he would not invest it in free education. If today he has seen the importance of the policy, he should give me my stone,” he stated.

Mahama promises to pay Ghana Premier League players stipends when elected

Presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, has pledged that his administration will guarantee stipends for players in the Ghana Premier League.

In recent times, the absence of financial compensation for players in the Ghana Premier League has driven many to leave the domestic league for better-paying opportunities abroad.

Former President Mahama has vowed that the NDC will tackle this problem by offering stipends to players in the local league.

“I would also like to assure the sports community that we will improve our stadium infrastructure for track and field sports, upgrade our deteriorating pitches, and provide stipends to footballers in the Premier League,” he stated.

At the Media Encounter on Sunday, July 7, 2024, John Dramani Mahama expressed his views on the matter.

He stated, “We will give equal attention to what we consider to be the least-funded sports, just as we have done for soccer.”

The NDC first made this commitment in 2020, promising to provide Ghana Premier League players with a monthly salary of GH¢1,500.

Mahama didn’t say anything new when he met the media – NPP Deputy General Secretary

Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has criticized John Mahama, the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), for not presenting any new ideas during his recent media engagement.

Mahama held the inaugural edition of “Mahama Conversations” on July 7, where he engaged with media practitioners from various outlets.

During the four-hour session, Mahama addressed key issues and made several pledges, including a promise to ban mining in forest reserves, ensure fiscal discipline to stabilize the exchange rate, and support legislative efforts to improve the Free Senior High School (SHS) program.

However, speaking on Joy News’ Election Brief, Haruna Mohammed expressed disappointment, stating, “I did not even know that Mr Mahama would be speaking until I was called and informed about this particular discussion. Lo and behold I went unto the media to search and see whether there is something new that was presented by former president Mahama, and I haven’t seen any new thing that was said by him.”

Mohammed characterized Mahama’s remarks as repetitive of past statements, suggesting that they lacked innovation and originality.

He contrasted Mahama’s presentation unfavorably with that of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer, whom he praised for offering concrete solutions to the country’s challenges.

In contrast, political scientist Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante offered a different perspective, commending Mahama for the initiative behind “Mahama Conversations.”

Dr. Asah-Asante described the engagement as innovative and highlighted the importance of such initiatives in the competitive political arena, noting that they could influence voter perception and electoral outcomes.

Probe military lands you live on after investigating ‘looting’ of Ga Dangbe lands – Anyidoho to Mahama

Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, has entreated the party’s flagbearer, John Mahama, to also look into the process in which he allegedly secured some military lands for personal purposes when he begins his investigation into the expropriation of lands belonging to the Ga Dangbe people.

“Please sir, we hope the investigation will cover the military lands on which you now live and who owns those estates. Thank you. Ghana first,” he wrote in a post on X.

John Dramani Mahama has vowed to establish a commission of enquiry to investigate the alleged expropriation of lands belonging to the Ga Dangbe people. This promise was made during his campaign stop in the La Dadekotopon constituency in Accra on Saturday.

Addressing a crowd of supporters, the former president emphasized his commitment to rectifying what he described as the “looting of lands” under the current administration. He assured Ga-Adangbe chiefs that, if elected in the December 7 polls, he would prioritize the investigation and restitution of lands that have been wrongfully taken.

Mahama criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for neglecting the La Dadekotopon constituency since coming to power in 2017. He accused the governing party of failing to deliver any significant development to the area and instead engaging in the illicit seizure of local lands.

“The La Dadekotopon area has seen no meaningful progress since the NPP took office. Instead, the focus has been on stealing the lands of the La people,” Mahama stated. He further highlighted his personal connection to the constituency, noting, “Because I live in this constituency, I know the problems that you face.”

In response to these issues, Mahama pledged to set up a Commission of Enquiry to thoroughly investigate the alleged land grabs and ensure justice for the Ga-Adangbe people. “I will set up a Commission of Enquiry to investigate the looting of Ga-Adangbe lands,” he affirmed.

Additionally, Mahama announced plans to officially launch his campaign by the end of July 2024. He promised a robust and energetic campaign effort aimed at addressing the grievances and needs of the La Dadekotopon residents.

“Before the end of this month, we’re going to launch the campaign, and once we do, we’ll come in our full political regalia to talk to the people of La,” Mahama said. “I know there are many issues you are facing, and I can assure you that we will do everything in our power to resolve them.”

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has pledged to establish a commission of enquiry to investigate the alleged “looting of lands” belonging to the Ga Dangbe people.

During his campaign in the La Dadekotopon constituency in Accra on Saturday, Mahama assured the Ga-Adangbe chiefs that, if elected in the upcoming December 7 elections, he would scrutinize all lands purportedly taken from them.

Mahama accused the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of neglecting the La Dadekotopon constituency, alleging that since coming to power in 2017, the NPP has not implemented any significant development projects in the area.

Instead, he claimed, the government has been involved in the illegal appropriation of lands belonging to the La people.

“As someone who resides in this constituency, I am acutely aware of the challenges you face,” Mahama stated. “I will set up a Commission of Enquiry to investigate the looting of Ga-Adangbe lands. The current administration has not treated La Dadekotopon fairly at all.”

Mahama’s commitment to addressing these land issues is part of his broader campaign promises. He announced his plan to officially launch his campaign by the end of July 2024, signaling the start of a full-scale political mobilization in the area.

“Before the end of this month, we will launch our campaign, and we will engage with the people of La in our full political regalia,” Mahama declared.

“I understand that many of you have significant concerns, and I assure you that we will work diligently to resolve the issues you face.”

Former President John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has issued a direct challenge to the ruling government, daring them to prosecute him if they have substantial evidence regarding his alleged involvement in the Airbus scandal.

Speaking passionately to the media at the Kempinski Hotel on Sunday, July 7, Mahama asserted that despite being out of office for seven years and seven months, the current administration has failed to produce any credible proof of his purported corrupt activities.

He dismissed these allegations as political maneuvers aimed at tarnishing his reputation.

“If this government had solid evidence against me, they would have prosecuted me long ago. The Airbus issue, for instance, was referred to the OSP for investigation. I’ve consistently challenged them to come forward with evidence,” Mahama declared, highlighting his willingness to cooperate with any investigation.

Mahama specifically addressed allegations concerning a Dubai hotel, challenging authorities to locate the property so it could be sold, with him receiving a fair share. “I’m ready to sell it myself. I’ve publicly challenged them to find it,” he affirmed, emphasizing his commitment to transparency and accountability.

Reflecting on his stance against corruption, Mahama reiterated his dedication to holding both himself and his administration accountable if elected. “Accountability is crucial in public office. I believe in setting high standards, and I expect the same from those who serve under me,” he asserted.

The former president also criticized what he described as baseless mudslinging and falsehoods propagated by the governing party, insisting on the need for factual evidence to substantiate allegations against public figures.

I launched Free SHS, I can’t be against it – Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has stated unequivocally that he is a firm believer in the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.

According to him, there would have not been such a policy if not for him. According to Mahama, he launched the Free SHS policy during his administration from 2013 to 2016.

He reaffirmed his commitment to Ghana’s Free Senior High School (SHS) policy while pledging to improve it if re-elected in the upcoming elections.

“How can the person who launched free SHS be against it?” he said.

Addressing journalists in Accra, Mahama emphasized the importance of the Free SHS policy in ensuring equal educational opportunities for all Ghanaian students.

“The Free SHS policy has come to stay, and I am committed to improving it,” Mahama stated, dispelling assertions that he opposes the policy and underscoring his stance to enhance it to effectively address current challenges.

Regarding the proposed Free SHS Bill, which is yet to be presented in Parliament, Mahama expressed willingness to support it if aimed at improving and sustaining the policy.

Meanwhile, the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has raised significant concerns about the draft Free SHS Bill currently under parliamentary consideration.

NAGRAT highlighted a lack of consultation with key stakeholders, including teacher unions, in the formulation of the proposed bill.

The association expressed disappointment with Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei-Adutwum over plans to separate Junior High School (JHS) from Primary School and abolish the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) as a prerequisite for SHS admission.

According to NAGRAT, these proposed changes are pivotal and necessitate extensive engagement with all relevant stakeholders to ensure effective implementation.

Mahama’s remarks come amidst preparations for the 2024 elections, where education policy, particularly the Free SHS initiative, remains a critical issue of debate and reform in Ghanaian politics.

Akufo-Addo’s corrupt officials will be prosecuted – Mahama

Former President John Mahama has accused the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) of presiding over an unprecedented level of corruption under President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Sunday, Mahama condemned the manner in which the current government has managed the affairs of the country, stating that it falls far short of acceptable governance standards.

“What we have now, obviously never and should never be a yardstick for governance. My goal is to launch a renewed fight against corruption,” Mahama asserted, emphasizing his commitment to addressing what he perceives as rampant corruption.

Mahama, who is the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), promised to assemble a formidable team to investigate corrupt activities that have allegedly taken place under the current administration.

“…and Ghanaians can be assured that drastic steps will be taken to punish the corrupt officials and the accomplices in this present administration. No actor in this NPP corruption enterprise will be spared and we will also take action to repossess what has been unlawfully stolen from the Ghanaian people,” Mahama vowed.

He further pledged that if elected, his administration would ensure strict oversight of appointees to prevent corrupt practices.

The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has revealed plans to establish a National Women’s Bank.

This initiative aimed at promoting gender equality and economic empowerment, he asserts, will benefit one million women if he is elected in the upcoming elections.

During a media address on Sunday, July 7, Mahama outlined his vision for the National Women’s Bank, emphasizing its role in providing financial support for small and medium-sized businesses owned by women.

The former president underscored the importance of gender inclusivity in government policies, ensuring that women have access to resources necessary for their economic advancement.

“I wholeheartedly believe in a Ghana where every citizen, regardless of their background or gender, has equal opportunities to thrive,” Mahama declared.

“Under my leadership, social interventions and educational reforms will be strengthened.”

Mahama also emphasized his commitment to protecting vulnerable populations, offering them opportunities to improve their circumstances. He stressed that his administration would prioritize gender equality, reflecting this in every aspect of governance.

“The vulnerable in our society will be protected and given the opportunity to change their circumstances. Let me add that gender equality will be a cardinal feature of the Mahama/Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang Flagstaff House. One million women will benefit from the women’s bank to finance their small and medium-scale businesses,” he stated.

Mahama’s proposed National Women’s Bank is designed to provide women with the financial tools needed to grow their enterprises, thereby fostering economic growth and reducing gender disparities in the business sector.

In addition to financial empowerment, Mahama’s address highlighted his dedication to comprehensive social interventions and educational reforms, aiming to create a supportive environment for all Ghanaians.

In our current crisis, I can’t promise a stadium – Mahama

Former President and current flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has expressed reservations about promising new stadium construction in light of Ghana’s ongoing economic challenges.

Speaking to reporters, Mahama highlighted the dire state of the nation’s sports infrastructure and the impracticality of committing to such projects under the present financial strain.

Currently, Ghana lacks a world-class Category A stadium, forcing the Confederation of African Football to frequently find compromises for the country’s football teams to play continental matches on home soil.

During a Sunday night interaction with journalists, Mahama was questioned about his plans to address this infrastructure deficit if elected in December’s General Elections.

“In the current crisis in which we are, I would not stand here and promise that we will build a new stadium,” Mahama stated. He emphasized the difficulty of making such commitments amid the nation’s economic woes.

However, Mahama elaborated on his broader infrastructure vision, which includes the “big push” initiative aimed at substantial investments over a five-year period.

“But I’ve said that under the big push, we intend to spend a certain amount of money over five years on providing good infrastructure to include roads, bridges, agro-industrial parks, and so on and so forth,” he explained.

He indicated that if allocations permit, this plan could potentially encompass sports facilities. “That could include sports facilities. And if we make allocation, then we probably would look at providing such a stadium,” he concluded.

Presently, the Borteyman Sports Complex and the University of Ghana Stadium are the only two facilities in good condition to host major multi-sport competitions, having been built for the 2023 African Games.

These venues stand as exceptions in a landscape where many sports infrastructures are in disrepair.

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has issued a stark warning about the potential consequences of neglecting Ghana’s youthful population, describing unemployment among the youth as a ticking timebomb.

In a recent address during a visit to the La Dadekotopon constituency on July 5, Mahama highlighted the urgency of creating opportunities for Ghana’s youthful demographic to avert socio-economic unrest akin to recent disturbances in Kenya.

Drawing parallels with decentralized protests in Kenya over tax hikes and political grievances, Mahama criticized the economic management under President Akufo-Addo’s administration. He emphasized the need for a transformative approach under the next NDC administration to address these challenges.

“They say Africa’s population is youthful and it’s important to have a youthful population. But if you have a youthful population and you’re not creating opportunities for them, then it can become a timebomb,” Mahama cautioned.

Mahama pledged that under the leadership of the NDC, there would be a concerted effort to implement robust economic policies aimed at creating numerous opportunities for Ghana’s youth.

He vowed to depart from business-as-usual practices and swiftly address economic challenges he attributed to the policies of Vice President Bawumia and President Akufo-Addo.

“The people of Ghana are looking at NDC to come and rescue them from the hardships in which they have been plunged…We will do things that will turn the economy around as quickly as possible,” Mahama affirmed.

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has reported that Ghana’s youth unemployment rate reached 7.16% in 2023, with the issue being particularly severe among those aged 15 to 24.

This information comes from the AfDB’s updated 2024 Africa Economic Outlook, which underscores a significant gender disparity in youth unemployment rates.

According to the report, unemployment is notably higher among young women than their male counterparts. Female youth unemployment reached 36.7%, while the rate for males was 29.3%.

The report also highlights a slight increase in multidimensional poverty, rising from 46% in 2017 to 46.7% in 2022, a trend largely attributed to the lingering effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Rising youth unemployment in Ghana has become a growing concern, leading to calls for intensified structural transformation.

The AfDB report points out that productivity in the services sector, the largest employer in the country, has stagnated. Meanwhile, gains in industry and agriculture have remained modest.

The report notes a significant shift in employment shares across sectors. Agriculture’s share of employment fell from 53.9% in 2007 to 29.8% in 2019. In contrast, industry’s share increased from 14.1% to 21.0%, and the services sector saw its share rise from 31.9% to 49.2%.

To accelerate Ghana’s structural transformation, the AfDB suggests several measures. These include enhancing competitiveness by addressing infrastructure bottlenecks, accelerating agro-industrialization through skills development and value addition, and bolstering private sector growth.

Additionally, the report emphasizes the need for a robust policy framework to support technology adoption and innovation.

We don’t what is happening in Kenya to happen in Ghana – Mahama

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has underscored the urgency of preventing socio-economic unrest similar to recent disturbances in Kenya, citing the importance of creating opportunities for Ghana’s youthful population.

Recent days have seen decentralized protests erupt across Kenya, driven by discontent over tax hikes and calls for the resignation of President William Ruto.

Criticizing the economic management under President Akufo-Addo’s administration, Mahama emphasized the need for a transformative approach under the next NDC administration.

During a visit to the La Dadekotopon constituency on July 5, Mahama highlighted the imperative to harness Ghana’s youthful demographic dividend through robust economic policies.

“They say Africa’s population is youthful, and it’s crucial to provide opportunities for them. If we fail to do so, it can become a ticking time bomb,” Mahama warned, drawing parallels with the unrest in Kenya.

He pledged that under the NDC’s leadership, there would be a concerted effort to create numerous opportunities, particularly for the country’s youth.

“When we assume office, our approach will be different. We will not continue with business as usual. We are determined to swiftly address the economic challenges caused by Bawumia and Akufo-Addo,” Mahama asserted, outlining his commitment to delivering substantial economic reforms.

Mahama stressed that Ghanaians are counting on the NDC to alleviate the hardships they currently face. He promised decisive actions aimed at revitalizing the economy and generating rapid improvements in living standards.

“The people of Ghana are looking to the NDC to rescue them from the difficulties they are experiencing. We will implement measures to swiftly turn the economy around,” Mahama affirmed, signaling a proactive agenda to mitigate economic pressures and foster sustainable growth.

  • You mistake NAPO’s boldness as arrogance, but it is Mahama who is – Miracles Aboagye

You mistake NAPO’s boldness as arrogance, but it is Mahama who is – Miracles Aboagye

Communications director for the campaign team of New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has refuted claims that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), Dr. Bawumia’s chosen running mate, is arrogant.

He asserted that these accusations come from members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), who have previously made similar false allegations against NPP presidential candidates such as President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

Miracles Aboagye emphasized that anyone who has worked closely with Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the current Minister for Energy and Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, knows that he is confident, not arrogant.

“These allegations wouldn’t work; we have advanced. People used to believe these things in the past. If you can recall, in the past, there were similar allegations against Kufuor and Nana Addo. People said Kufuor and Nana Addo were womanisers.

For Kufuor, people said he had relations with a white woman which resulted in the birth of twins, Paul and Peter. Later, we went to look into these things, and it was not true.

“Anybody who tells you that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh is arrogant is an NDC member; he or she just wants to spoil his name. Almost every other Ghanaian who is not partisan and has worked with Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh would bear witness that he is a team player, a goal-getter, results-oriented,” he said in Twi.

He highlighted NAPO’s successful tenure as Minister of Education as evidence that he is not
    arrogant.

“Can someone who is arrogant work at the Ministry of Education for four years without any labour unrest? Do you know that it takes love, humility, patience, and respect to deal with labour unions? Boldness and assertiveness are not the same as arrogance. Confidence is not the same as arrogance.”

Dennis Miracles Aboagye further suggested that former President John Dramani Mahama, the NDC flagbearer, is the one who could be described as arrogant, citing past comments he has made.

He concluded by stating that boldness and assertiveness should not be confused with arrogance, and that confidence should not be mistaken for arrogance.

Reflecting on his own experiences, Mr. Mahama recalled the traditional practice of beginning the day with cleaning chores, a routine he observed has significantly diminished over time. He lamented the rise in urban anonymity and its adverse effect on civic responsibility towards cleanliness.

“When I saw you guys, young people, filling in that gap, I thought that you needed to be encouraged,” Mahama stated, expressing his admiration for the group’s dedication and initiative.

  • NPP’s Mahama Kabiru barred from presenting himself as PC for Walewale

NPP’s Mahama Kabiru barred from presenting himself as PC for Walewale

The High Court in Tamale has placed an injunction on Dr. Mahama Tia Kabiru, preventing him from presenting himself as the elected parliamentary candidate (PC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Walewale constituency in the North East Region.

This ruling, delivered by Justice Richard Kugyapaw on Monday, June 24, is in response to a legal challenge by the current Member of Parliament (MP), Hajia Lariba Zuweratu, against the election results.

Dr. Kabiru, a 35-year-old PhD holder and special advisor to the Vice President, emerged victorious in a closely contested primary held in January.

He narrowly defeated Hajia Lariba by securing 345 votes against her 338, in an election conducted under tight security and attended by regional and constituency executives.

Following the primary, Hajia Lariba disputed the results, filing an ex parte motion at the Tamale High Court. She accused Dr. Kabiru, the party, and the Electoral Commission of electoral irregularities and misconduct, seeking an injunction to prevent Dr. Kabiru from declaring himself the winner.

The court has now granted this request, barring Dr. Kabiru from assuming the position.

In addition to Dr. Kabiru and Hajia Lariba, two other candidates participated in the primary: Tahiru Sham-Una, who received 145 votes, and Jangdoo Mahama, who received 1 vote.

Initially, the NPP, named as a third defendant, attempted to have the case dismissed on the grounds that Hajia Lariba had not exhausted the party’s internal conflict resolution mechanisms before approaching the court.

Prior to this ruling, NPP supporters in the Walewale constituency held a press conference urging the party’s Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to intervene and resolve the dispute.

They warned that a prolonged conflict could harm the party’s chances in the upcoming general elections.

In March, the High Court granted the NPP’s request to settle the dispute out of court. However, in a session on March 15, the court declined to dismiss the case and fined the party GH¢8000. Despite agreeing to an out-of-court settlement, the court has now intervened with an injunction against Dr. Kabiru, underscoring the ongoing tensions within the party.

“NPP collected the car I got from Mahama for celebrities” – Akofa Edjeani

Ghanaian actress Akofa Edjeani has shared an incident involving the repossession of a vehicle given to her by the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

She explained that during John Dramani Mahama’s tenure, vehicles were distributed to some celebrities in need, with the understanding that they would repay the costs as loans.

As a beneficiary of this initiative, Edjeani disclosed that she received a Chevrolet and was diligently fulfilling the payment terms.

However, following the NPP’s assumption of political power in 2017, she recounted experiencing the unexplained confiscation of her vehicle by the authorities.

In a 3FM interview, Akofa shared her experience: “When John Mahama was in office, he distributed 50 cars to celebrities, starting with 25 in the north, in Kumasi and 25 in Accra, to both actors and musicians. I received a Chevrolet, but when the NPP took over, my car was taken away. My son was using it; they had installed trackers. Once they were in power, they located it.

“My son was driving when they intercepted him and took the car without allowing him to retrieve his belongings, including his backpack, basketball, and school bag. The cars were given with the intention of increasing the number each year. For those who could afford it, a payment plan of perhaps five years was set up for installments. These weren’t giveaways,” she explained.

Meanwhile, celebrities such as actress Oheneyere Mercy Asiedu have called on the creative community to support John Dramani Mahama. She pointed to his provision of vehicles for creatives during his presidency as her rationale for endorsing him.

Mahama will win hands down – Alex Segbefia on 2024 elections

Head of the Running Mate’s Campaign for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alex Segbefia, has expressed strong confidence that the party’s flagbearer, John Mahama, will secure a decisive victory in the upcoming December elections.

In an interview with Citi FM on Thursday, June 20, Segbefia emphasized Mahama’s superior track record in comparison to President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The former Health Minister underscored the NDC’s commitment to a robust campaign strategy focused on ensuring Mahama’s triumph in the polls.

Mr Segbefia articulated his unwavering belief in Mahama’s chances, asserting that he has no doubt Mahama will form the next government. He emphasized that Mahama’s leadership would restore hope to Ghanaians and address the challenges currently facing the country.

According to Segbefia, Mahama’s past achievements and his vision for the future distinguish him from the current administration, making him the ideal candidate to lead Ghana forward. The NDC, he added, remains dedicated to communicating this message to the electorate as they head into the December polls.

“We have a case because there is a direct comparison now. We have a flagbearer who has been president before and has been Vice President before. You can compare his record as Vice President with the record of the current Vice President. You can compare his record as president with the current president,” Segbefia stated.

He further highlighted Mahama’s accomplishments, particularly in the area of macroeconomic indicators and infrastructure development, as evidence of his capability to lead the nation effectively.

“He wins hands down. Take all the macroeconomic indicators. Tell me, in the last seven years, add Kufuor’s years, which hospital has ever been built by the NPP to write home about? Not just health infrastructure. We’ve done well in almost every structure or every portfolio that exists under this current government,” Segbefia remarked.

Mahama is the only Vice President whose boss had him investigated for corruption – Gideon Boako

An economist and spokesperson for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Gideon Boako, has stirred controversy with his recent accusation against former President John Dramani Mahama, labeling him as the most corrupt Vice President in Ghana’s history.

In an interview with Kumasi-based Hello FM on Thursday, June 20, Dr Boako criticized Mahama’s tenure as Vice President, alleging that it was marked by numerous corruption scandals and financial mismanagement.

He pointed to various instances during Mahama’s term where funds were reportedly misappropriated, leading to substantial economic losses for the country.

Dr Boako emphasized that such corruption undermined public trust and hindered Ghana’s development. He highlighted the fact that Mahama was the only Vice President in Ghana’s history whose President set up an investigation on him for allegations of corruption.

“I must state on record that between Mr. Mahama who is the most corrupt Vice President because of his conduct in terms of corruption, you can’t compare that to any Vice President in the country’s history. He is the only Vice President whose President set up an investigation on him for allegations of corruption,” Boako stated.

“This didn’t happen during Ackaah’s era and all the rest that followed after him. So if that is anything to go by, Mr. Mahama is the only Vice President whose President accepts that he is corrupt,” he added.

  • We thought Mahama wasn’t good enough but he’s way better than Akufo-Addo – Martin Kpebu

We thought Mahama wasn’t good enough but he’s way better than Akufo-Addo – Martin Kpebu

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has delivered a scathing critique of President Akufo-Addo‘s administration, asserting that former President John Dramani Mahama, once deemed inadequate, now appears significantly better in comparison.

Mr Kpebu’s comments come amidst growing concerns over rampant corruption and economic challenges under the current government.

Kpebu, addressing the media during the “Hands off our hotels” demonstration on Tuesday, lamented the current state of governance, highlighting that Ghanaians are increasingly frustrated with the President’s handling of corruption.

“Ghanaians are very angry. I had to leave court and come here. But some people don’t have that luxury but every day when you interact with people, you will find out that people are very angry. They are dissatisfied with the corruption-ridden Akufo-Addo governance,” he said.

Reflecting on the decision made in 2016 to elect Akufo-Addo over Mahama, Kpebu admitted that the expectations from the current administration have not been met.

“We thought John Mahama was not good enough; that is why in 2016 we voted out JM thinking that Akufo-Addo was better. But now we’ve discovered that JM was way better,” he noted.

Kpebu underscored his argument by citing the Corruption Perception Index (CPI), noting that Ghana’s score has stagnated at 43 under Akufo-Addo for four consecutive years. This score, he pointed out, was the lowest recorded during Mahama’s tenure.

“Per the Corruption Perception Index, we’ve been at 43 for four years. Now 43 was the lowest the John Mahama administration got. So for four years, President Akufo-Addo’s best fight against corruption has always been at 43. He has plateaued, he can’t be better,” Mr Kpebu explained.

He expressed grave concerns over the frequency of new corruption scandals under the current administration, warning that the situation is likely to deteriorate further in 2024.

“Every day, a new scandal. One day, one scandal. That is why we are very angry. We thought he was Junior Jesus and that Akufo-Addo would live above corruption, not knowing that he is the epitome of corruption,” he stressed.

The game changer Ghana needs is Mahama’s 24-hour economy – Joyce Mogtari

Special aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Mogtari, stated that the 24-hour economy proposal by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer will generate sustainable employment opportunities. She added that this initiative would also invigorate Ghana’s economy, fostering growth and prosperity for all.

In a post on her X platform, Bawah Mogtari said, “The Mahama 24 Hour Economy is a real game-changer, it will create sustainable jobs, open up our economy and create growth and prosperity for all.

“That’s why we need the extra hours to expand businesses and create growth for the economy. This will be done for the first time with support from the incoming Mahama administration to ensure that companies, including government and the private sector, can fully implement the Mahama24HourEconomy to introduce the three-shift approach for jobs and to reset the economy.”

Earlier, Mr. Mahama emphasised once again the transformative potential of his 24-hour economy initiative for Ghana’s development.

During his address to the nation on Sunday, June 9, he underscored that the 24-hour concept is not only a solution for the present but also a blueprint for the future.

According to him, this strategy will establish a conducive environment with tailored policies enabling businesses, companies, and government institutions to operate continuously using a three-eight-hour shift system.

Mr. Mahama also highlighted his administration’s plan to introduce two additional work shifts alongside the traditional 8-hour system.

He believes this move will substantially increase employment opportunities in both the public and private sectors, potentially doubling or even tripling current job participation levels.

“This is the 24-hour economy optimisation strategy: giving more to society, providing efficient service delivery, and generating decent and well-paying jobs.

“The benefits of this system will include, but are not limited to, 24-hour port and harbour services, 24-hour customs services, 24-hour DVLA services, 24-hour agro-processing factories, 24-hour manufacturing industries, 24-hour construction companies and many more.”

Video: Mahama preaches in church on Father’s Day

Former President John Dramani Mahama, also the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), delivered a sermon at the Ringway Assemblies of God Church on Sunday.

His sermon was part of the church’s Men’s Ministry Day and Father’s Day celebrations.

Mahama, a member of the Ringway Assemblies of God Church, spoke passionately about the timeless teachings found in Jesus’s parables. He highlighted the relevance of these parables in teaching Christians valuable lessons even today.

Reflecting on the Parable of the Prodigal Son, Mahama emphasized the message of God the Father’s unconditional love and forgiveness.

He also delved into the Parable of the Good Samaritan, stressing the importance of showing love and compassion to everyone, regardless of background or circumstances.

Mahama further discussed the Parable of the Lost Sheep, reminding the congregation of the value that God places on each individual.

He urged fathers, husbands, and men of God to reflect on these parables and strive to live out their lessons daily.

“As fathers, husbands, and men of God, we must reflect on these powerful parables and strive to live out their lessons daily,” he said.

“Remember the importance of love, forgiveness, compassion, and everyone’s value. Just as the father in the Parable of the Prodigal Son eagerly welcomed back his wayward son, our heavenly Father waits for us to return to him.”

Encouraging the congregation to build their lives on the foundation of God’s word, Mahama expressed gratitude for the opportunity to share these teachings with the church.

He concluded his sermon by blessing the congregation and wishing them a Happy Father’s Day.

“I feel proud of our work in government” – Mahama prides himself in UGMC construction

Former President John Dramani Mahama has joined in the recent commendations for the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC).

The facility has received significant praise on social media, particularly after serving as a key referral center for public figures like Kuami Eugene and KK Fosu following their separate accidents.

Additionally, a video recently circulated showing a lady who visited the UGMC and shared a positive review about its services and staff.

In a post on X dated June 14, 2024, Mahama expressed his excitement upon seeing these positive reviews.

“Whenever I visit patients in hospitals or read reviews on people’s lived experiences at the UGMC, I feel proud of our work in government. I am poised to do more.

“My track record in infrastructure development is well acknowledged. We shall provide more. It is a track record that built the Ghana National Gas Company and many power plants to fix dumsor.

“It is a solid track record of building ultramodern hospitals such as the UGMC, the Ridge Hospital, the Bank Hospital, the Maritime Hospital, the Dodowa Hospital, and several others across the country,” the post concluded.

    About UGMC:

The establishment of the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) was initiated by the Education, Finance, and Health Ministries, with the Ministry of Health ultimately signing the commercial contract in November 2012.

Construction of the Centre began under the late former President of Ghana, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, in April 2013.

Phase I of the UGMC project, which involved the Sheba Medical Centre from Israel as the medical planning consultants, was inaugurated by former President John Mahama in 2017.

While waiting for the commercial agreement to commence Phase II, the Centre started partial operations in 2018 during the tenure of the current president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The president’s salary must be taxed – Constitutional Review Consultative Committee

The Constitutional Review Consultative Committee, established by the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has made a series of significant recommendations aimed at reforming the executive and legislative branches of the Ghanaian government.

The committee, led by lawyer Clare Kasser-Tee, was tasked with reviewing the 2011 report of the Constitution Review Commission.

Among the committee’s notable recommendations is the proposal that the President of Ghana should pay taxes. This recommendation, if implemented, would reflect the principle of equality before the law and align with the rule of law.

Currently, Article 68(5) of the constitution exempts the president from paying income tax. The committee suggests that this article should be amended so that the president pays taxes on his salary and emoluments, setting an example for the rest of the citizenry.

This change would also require consequential amendments to the country’s income tax law.

In addition, the committee recommended that the number of ministers be capped at 25. Ghana has seen a high number of ministers in recent years, with the current administration under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo reaching as many as 110 ministers.

Main candidates in the 2024 presidential election have promised to significantly reduce this number, with former President John Mahama proposing 60 ministers and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia suggesting 50.

The committee also proposed the abolition of Deputy Minister positions. Furthermore, it recommended that ministers should not be Members of Parliament, diverging from the current constitutional mandate that requires the majority of ministers to be lawmakers.

Another key recommendation is to cap the size of Parliament at 277 members. The proposed amendment to Article 93 of the Constitution states, “There shall be a Parliament of Ghana which shall consist of not more than two hundred and seventy-seven elected members.”

These recommendations were presented to Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu on June 13, 2024, for preliminary suggestions or firm resolve for the review of the 1992 Constitution.

The event, themed “Building consensus and promoting ownership for the review of the Constitution,” was organized by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.

The committee’s mandate included reviewing submissions, proposals, and reports from various constitutional review platforms, including the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), the University of Ghana Law School, the University of Professional Studies (UPSA), and the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

In addition, the committee is tasked with making recommendations to the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and its partners and collaborators, including the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), Africa Centre for Economic Transformation (ACET), Centre for Democratic Development (CDD), Institute of Democratic and Economic Governance (IDEG), and the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), among others.

The proposed reforms aim to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of Ghana’s governance structures, promoting accountability, and ensuring a more streamlined and representative government.

I will implement a scheme to support master craftsmen and women – Mahama

John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has announced plans to implement a scheme that will benefit master craftsmen and women if he is elected in the 2024 general elections.

This program aims to assist craftsmen in training apprentices and provide financial support and start-up equipment to artisans.

Mahama emphasized his administration’s commitment to prioritizing technical and vocational education, highlighting the importance of supporting artisans and craftsmen in their trade.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, June 13, Mahama expressed his admiration for the diligent artisans he met during his journey to Sawla and Wa.

“I had an incredibly exciting experience on my way to Wa earlier today. Between Sawla and Wa, I made a few whistle-stops to interact with some passionate, hardworking artisans in the local communities,” Mahama wrote.

He continued, “Their unwavering support and tireless dedication to their craft are not only awe-inspiring but even more the ‘appropriate technology’ being used to serve their clients. Another reason why my government will prioritize technical and vocational education, implement a scheme to support master craftsmen and women to train apprentices and support artisans with funds and start-up equipment.”

Mahama noted that the enthusiasm and dedication of these artisans provide him with “a renewed sense of purpose and drive,” affirming his determination to elevate the country to new heights.

Mahama gifts Ghana’s amputee national team $10,000 for winning AFCON

Former Ghanaian President John Mahama has donated $10,000 to the Ghana Amputee National Football Team, known as the Black Challenge, in recognition of their remarkable achievement in winning the Amputee Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Black Challenge presented their trophy to the former President at his residence following their triumphant victory in Egypt, where they defeated Morocco 2-1 in the final held in Cairo. This win marked their second consecutive AFCON title, showcasing their exceptional talent and determination.

In expressing his appreciation for the team’s efforts, Mahama made the donation of $10,000 to be shared among the players and assured them of even better support if he is elected as President of the country.

“We must not only focus on just the senior national team (Black Stars)… we should also invest in teams like yours so that you can continue to make Ghana proud,” John Mahama said. “Even though you didn’t see me before you left for the tournament, I have a little gift for you of $10,000 to be shared amongst the players. I know that you went through some challenges in the tournament.”

Mahama emphasized his continued interest in the team’s progress and pledged further support. “I’ll continue to take interest in what you do. As the presidential candidate of the NDC party, I wish to assure you that when I become President of the country I will not forget the Amputee Football team. We will give you the assistance that you need to retain your trophy and even win more laurels for us.”

The former President’s donation and commitment to the team highlight the importance of supporting diverse sports teams in Ghana, ensuring that their achievements are recognized and celebrated.

  • I will support Mahama when he reconciles with the souls of Rawlings, Atta Mills – Anyidoho

I will support Mahama when he reconciles with the souls of Rawlings, Atta Mills – Anyidoho

Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho has revealed the only condition that must be met for him to throw his support behind the party’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.

Mr Anyidoho is an ardent critic of former President Mahama. He has in a series of posts criticised his actions and inactions.

According to Mr Anyidoho, all these will stop should Mr Mahama makes amends with the dearly departed party bigwigs and former statesmen, Jerry John Rawlings and John Evans Fifi Atta Mills.

He made this known in a post on X when he expressed excitement over Assin Central MP, Ken Agyapong’s decision to support his one time contender for the NPP flagbearership position, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

“In unity lies strength. Kennedy joins the “It Is Possible” bus with Bawumia. Maybe one day, when JM makes the move to reconcile with the souls of Papa J & Prez Mills, I will join his bus,” he wrote.

Mr Anyidoho believes that Mr Mahama was unfair to the duo while they were alive.

Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong, has joined the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team in the Ashanti Region, ahead of the country’s upcoming polls.

Earlier, Alex Tetteh, a prominent figure in Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign and the convener for Citizen Eye, Ghana revealed that the MP would be joining the party’s flagbearer.

Mr Agyapong left the United States to bolster the New Patriotic Party’s efforts towards securing a victory.

“Kennedy Agyapong is in the United States of America currently. He will be back soon and he will join the campaign to get Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to become President. He said after the primaries that he will join the campaign and that is what he will do,” he said.

On Monday, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia began a three-day tour of the Ashanti Region as part of campaign activities.

  • You will suffer if you keep disrespecting the soul of the NDC – Anyidoho tells Mahama

You will suffer if you keep disrespecting the soul of the NDC – Anyidoho tells Mahama

Former Deputy General Secretary for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, has accused the party of not holding any event to commemorate its 32nd anniversary.

According to him, the opposition party also failed to observe the 45th anniversary of the June 4th Revolution, a significant event in Ghana’s history.

According to him, the ethos of the June 4 coup forms the foundation of the NDC, and anyone who claims to be a member of the party must commit to observing June 4 and abiding by its principles.

As such he chided the party’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, holding him responsible for the party’s alleged failure.

“So, the NDC did not hold any Event yesterday to mark our 32nd birthday? They ignored June 4, days ago & they have ignored this one too. The “Regime Change” media houses shd get it into their heads that if JM continues to disrespect the soul of the NDC he will suffer for it,” he wrote in a post on X.

Meanwhile, flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has stated that the next NDC government will build a Ghana united in purpose, stable in governance, and developed in opportunity for all.

In his message for the NDC’s 32nd anniversary on June 10, the former President assured the rank and file of the party of his commitment to the NDC’s powerful campaign message of “Building the Ghana we want together.”

According to him, the message is not just a slogan but a call to action that echoes the party’s motto.

“Our party’s motto, ‘Unity, Stability, and Development’, is not just a slogan but a guiding principle for our daily work. It reminds us that only by coming together as one nation can we achieve the stability and development that we all aspire to.

“As we prepare for the December elections, I am reminded of our powerful campaign message: Building the Ghana we want together. This message is not just a slogan but a call to action that echoes our party’s motto. It underscores the crucial role of unity in propelling our country forward, the necessity of stability in our political and economic landscape, and our unwavering commitment to development for all our citizens.

“Our supporters are the backbone of the NDC, and I want to assure you that we remain steadfast in our commitment to these principles. Together, we will build a Ghana that is united in purpose, stable in governance, and developed in opportunity for all. Your unwavering support fuels our determination to work tirelessly towards these goals and create a brighter future for every Ghanaian.”

Include remote areas in voter registration mop-up exercise – Mahama to EC

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to extend the upcoming mop-up voter registration exercise beyond district offices to include hard-to-reach areas.

The EC plans to conduct this mop-up exercise from August 1-3, 2024.

Mahama believes that expanding the registration locations will allow eligible Ghanaians, who have turned 18 or older, to register during the mop-up exercise, thus preventing voter suppression.

He expressed these views during an interaction with Ghanaians dubbed ‘Mahama Conversations’ on Sunday, June 9, 2024.

“If this young lady or gentleman manages to secure two guarantors, pays for the transportation of the guarantors to accompany them to a registration centre and due to network failure and postponements, this young person is unable to register via the guarantor system, what is the likelihood that he or she can return another day to register with two guarantors?

“That leads to voter suppression. I will continue to urge the EC to prevent voter suppression by extending the mop-up exercise beyond its district offices to include all hard-to-reach areas.

“This will enable Ghanaians who have turned 18 or more to register from the 1st to the 3rd of August,” he said.

He also reassured his supporters that any obstacles to voting would not hinder his ultimate victory in the polls, which would be a victory for all Ghanaians.

“However, let me assure you that no matter the challenges or artificial mountains and obstacles they erect in your paths to prevent you from exercising your franchise, my victory in the polls shall be your victory. It shall be a victory for all the suffering Ghanaians,” he stated.

John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to expand the upcoming mop-up voter registration exercise beyond district offices to include remote areas that are difficult to access.

The EC’s mop-up exercise is scheduled to take place from August 1-3, 2024.

Mahama argues that extending the registration sites will allow eligible Ghanaians who have recently turned 18 or older to register during the mop-up exercise, thereby preventing voter suppression.

He made these comments during an interaction with Ghanaians known as ‘Mahama Conversations’ on Sunday, June 9, 2024.

“If this young lady or gentleman manages to secure two guarantors, pays for the transportation of the guarantors to accompany them to a registration centre and due to network failure and postponements, this young person is unable to register via the guarantor system, what is the likelihood that he or she can return another day to register with two guarantors?

He reassured his supporters that any challenges with voting would not hinder his ultimate victory in the elections, emphasizing that his win would be a triumph for all Ghanaians.

Mahama promises to reinstate defunct banks after thorough, unbiased assessment

2024 flagbearer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has reiterated his commitment to reviving collapsed banks and financial institutions following a thorough and unbiased assessment.

He emphasised that this initiative is crucial for stabilising the financial sector and restoring public trust.

Mahama expressed his concern about Ghana’s rising unemployment rate and urged Ghanaians to support him in the 2024 general elections to help rejuvenate the struggling economy.

He highlighted that restoring these financial institutions would create jobs and stimulate economic growth.

During an interaction with Ghanaians on Sunday, June 9, Mahama acknowledged the increasing frustration among the youth.

He outlined his vision for economic recovery, stressing the need for inclusive policies that benefit all segments of society.

The former president assured the youth of his commitment to fostering a nation characterised by shared growth and prosperity.

He reiterated his dedication to addressing unemployment and creating a more equitable economic environment through the revival of key financial institutions and the implementation of progressive policies.

“By resetting Ghana, I will repair the dangerous damage to our country’s economy and people. Businessmen and women who government apparatchiks have given raw deals will have their say and can be assured of restoration.

After a thorough and unbiased assessment, collapsed banks and financial institutions will be restored. We will provide decent and well-paying jobs through my 24-hour economy initiative.”

“Let me be clear: I am utterly appalled and disappointed by the unprecedented unemployment rate we are seeing today,” he said.

Mahama promises 20% salary increment for teachers who accept postings to rural schools

Former President John Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to offer a 20% salary incentive to teachers who agree to serve in rural schools.

This promise comes amid concerns raised by the education think tank, Africa Education Watch, about the inadequate and unfair distribution of trained teachers across the country.

The Executive Director of Africa Education Watch, Kofi Asare, emphasized that while Ghana requires more teachers, the perception of a shortage is misleading.

Asare explained that the real issue lies in the over-concentration of teachers in urban areas, which negatively impacts rural education. He pointed out that thousands of public primary school classrooms in rural Ghana lack teachers, leading to an average of 30 student dropouts daily.

For instance, the Adentan municipality has 18 public primary schools with 140 classrooms, needing at least 158 teachers to function properly.

However, it has a surplus of 205 teachers, with 363 currently employed. Similarly, Kumasi Metro, which has 98 public primary schools with 820 classrooms, requires 918 teachers but has a surplus of 290, with 1,208 teachers currently employed.

The Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, attributed part of the responsibility for the shortage of teachers in rural areas to members of various teachers’ associations. He noted that many trained teachers either refuse postings to rural areas or seek transfers away from these locations after a few years.

Mahama’s proposed 20% salary incentive aims to address this distribution problem by encouraging more teachers to take up positions in rural schools, thereby improving the quality of education for students in these areas.

Hawa Koomson walked away free but you detained a woman whose name you misspelt – Mahama slams Police

John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has condemned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for what he characterized as acts of inequality and selective justice.

He pointed out the incident involving the current Awutu Senya East MP, Hawa Koomson, who discharged a firearm at a voter registration center without facing any consequences, while Naa Koryoo was detained for legally possessing a firearm.

He accused the police of politically motivated and unfair selective enforcement of their discretionary arrest powers.

“The inequality and selective justice of this government are gullying, otherwise, how could Hawa Koomson, who fired a weapon at a registration centre and boasted about it, walk away free and a parliamentary candidate for Awutu Senya East is detained partly because the very police that issued her with a firearm’s license misspelt her name?” the former president said in a live broadcast on Sunday, June 9.

Despite these intimidation tactics, Mr. Mahama expressed confidence in Madam Okunor’s victory in the parliamentary race.

He claimed that the police have effectively secured the Awutu Senya East parliamentary seat for the party’s candidate, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, by arresting and detaining her in a bid to intimidate her.

“If the government was seeking to break the spirit of Naa Koryoo with that politically organised arrest, they have rather handed over the Awutu Senya East parliamentary seat to the young woman, who by all standards towers over and above the incumbent,” he said.

You sought to break Naa Koryoo’s spirit but ended up handing over Awutu Senya East seat to her – Mahama tells gov’t

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has claimed that the police have inadvertently secured the Awutu Senya East parliamentary seat for the party’s candidate, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, by arresting and detaining her in what he sees as an attempt to intimidate her.

“If the government was seeking to break the spirit of Naa Koryoo with that politically organised arrest, they have rather handed over the Awutu Senya East parliamentary seat to the young woman, who by all standards towers over and above the incumbent,” the former president said in a live broadcast on Sunday, June 9.

I will exempt artisanal fishers from the closed-season policy – Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama, the leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to revive and enhance the fishing sector in Ghana to its former strength.

He made this commitment during a meeting with the fishing community in Tema on Saturday, June 8, 2024.

Mr. Mahama assured the fishing community that if elected, the next NDC government would reinstate the nonpartisan Landing Beach Committee.

This move would ensure a fair distribution of premix fuel and outboard motors to all registered association members without any political bias. He stressed the need to keep politics out of the fishing sector, promising equitable treatment for all members.

Additionally, Mr. Mahama promised to reintroduce the subsidised premix and outboard motor policy that had provided relief to fishers during his previous administration.

He also pledged that artisanal fishers would be exempt from the closed-season policy under the next NDC government.

Furthermore, the NDC leader committed to completing the National Fisheries College, initiated by the late President John Atta Mills. This would ensure that fishing industry members receive proper training, enhancing their effectiveness and efficiency.

Mr. Mahama also vowed to provide fish-finding equipment to fisherfolk, enabling them to locate fish scientifically and streamline their operations.

Canoe Owners Association calls for pension scheme for fishermen

President of the Canoe and Fishing Gears Owners Association, Nana Kweigyah, has called on the flag bearer and leader of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, to implement a comprehensive social security policy for members of the fishing industry if he wins the December 2024 elections.

During Mahama’s visit to the Tema Fishing Community on Saturday, Nana Kweigyah highlighted the difficult conditions faced by fishers upon retirement or in the event of accidents at sea.

He urged Mahama to extend the proposed social security policy for Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) members to the fishing community and to provide insurance for fishers in case of accidents.

Nana Kweigyah also criticized the politicization and discrimination in the distribution of premix fuel and outboard motors to fishermen, advocating for the reinstatement of the Premix Fuel Committee under an NDC government in 2025.

He stressed the dire sanitation conditions at landing beaches, which are plagued with plastic waste and pose significant hazards to the fishing community.

Representatives from various regions, other associations in the fishing industry, and chief fishermen voiced concerns about the adverse effects of the closed season on artisanal fishers.

In his response, Mahama reminisced about his interactions with the artisanal fishing community during his tenure as vice president and president.

He pledged to reestablish the Landing Beach Committee, promote youth participation in beach sanitation, and enforce the exclusive zone policy with assistance from the Ghana Navy.

Mahama assured that an NDC government would “exempt artisanal fishers from the closed-season policy” and complete the National Fisheries College, a project initiated by the late President John Atta Mills, to ensure that fishing industry members receive appropriate training and can work more effectively.
