Private secondary schools will be featured on free SHS programme – Mahama

Addressing the launch of the 2024 annual week celebration of the Ghana National Association of Private Schools, the flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, underscored the pivotal role of private schools as collaborative partners with the government in delivering quality education for Ghanaian children.

Mr Mahama commended the significant contributions of private schools to the educational sector, describing them as trailblazers and pioneers responsible for introducing innovative teaching techniques.

Notably, he cited the Montessori curriculum as an exemplary instance, initially implemented by private schools and later adopted by some public institutions to enhance teaching and learning methodologies.

The former president, leading the NDC into the upcoming December presidential and parliamentary elections, emphasized the effectiveness of private schools in addressing the needs of special children, attributing it to their favorable teacher-to-pupil ratio.

He highlighted the challenges faced by public schools with high student numbers, making it difficult for educators to cater to individualized needs, especially for those with special requirements.

Mr Mahama assured the private schools’ association that an NDC government, if elected, would prioritize education, convening stakeholders to conduct a comprehensive review of the entire education structure, spanning from basic to tertiary levels.

He outlined plans for substantial investments in basic education starting from 2025, aiming to fortify the foundation of the education sector.

Regarding secondary education, the NDC leader committed to extending the free Senior High School (SHS) program to include private secondary schools.

Mr Mahama acknowledged the infrastructure and human resources capabilities of many private institutions, positioning them as integral contributors to the successful implementation of the free SHS initiative.

Mr Mahama referenced a recent Edu-Watch report, shedding light on the persistent financial burden shared by parents and the government at the secondary education level.

Despite the implementation of the free SHS policy, parents still bear approximately 77% of the total cost of their children’s education, as revealed in the report.

Confirmed! John Mahama names Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as running mate

Former President John Dramani Mahama has chosen to keep Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate for the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

Reports from JoyNews, Asaase Radio and The Herald have cited reliable sources close to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer.

It was earlier reported by the NDC’s Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, that the party’s flagbearer will be announcing his running mate today.

Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang was Mahama’s running mate for the 2020 general elections. Reports had it that Mahama was considering these three prominent party members;  Julius Debrah, Naana Opoku-Agyemang, and Awuah-Darko for the running mate role.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is abuzz with anticipation as the Council of Elders prepares to gather on Thursday, March 7, 2024, to deliberate on the running mate nominee presented by Presidential Candidate John Dramani Mahama.

According to the General Secretary of the party, Fifi Kwetey, the National Executive Committee will later gather at 2pm on the same day to further consider the nomination.

Mahama’s submission aligns with Section 45 of the party’s Constitution, which mandates the presentation of a nominee to the Council of Elders for consideration.

The venue and logistical details for these meetings, the party said, will be communicated directly to all participants in due course.

The party has indicated whoever is selected will undoubtedly complement the vision of John Dramani Mahama, as the party collectively strives to “Build the Ghana We Want together.”

  • Free SHS has become a political game for govt – Mahama

Free SHS has become a political game for govt – Mahama

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of double standards in the Free Senior High School policy discourse.

Government appointees advocate for policy improvement, not review, but Mahama has criticized this stance.

Speaking at the launch of the Ghana National Association of Private Schools week, Mr Mahama condemned the government’s double standards. He points to their commitment to review the policy in an IMF document, contrasting with public statements.

Mahama criticizes the NPP’s lack of transparency and consistency in communication with the IMF, highlighting the disparity between promises and actions. Referring to the IMF agreement, he quotes the government’s pledge to review and rationalize free SHS in the educational sector.

He urges vigilance in understanding the term “review,” emphasizing the government’s use of the term in the IMF agreement.

He encouraged reading the Eduwatch report, especially on free SHS, revealing that over 196,000 qualified children didn’t enroll between 2021 and now.

The report states government spending of ¢5.8 billion, with parents covering 77% and the government 23%, justifying the need for a review.

“There’s hypocrisy in this thing about review. If you look at the IMF agreement that this government has signed, under point 47, page 76.

“This Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government signed an agreement with the IMF in January 2024. And they say that in the educational sector, we will review and rationalise the free SHS. These are their words, not my words.”

“And so when you hear all this politics about my understanding of the review means to abolish, in their own words, they are using review. Sometimes, you must watch our politics. I encourage all of you to get the Eduwatch report and read it, and it is about especially, the free SHS.

“It says that between 2021 to date, over 196,000 children did not take up their place in the free SHS. Even though they were posted and qualified, they didn’t go. We need to find out why they didn’t go.

“The report says that the total amount of money the government has spent on free SHS comes to about ¢5.8 billion. The proportion of the parents is about 77% to the government’s share of about 23%. That is why we must do a review,” he said.

You couldn’t run the economy for 12 hours but want to do 24 hours – Habib Iddrisu to Mahama

Member of Parliament for Tolon, Habib Iddrisu, has criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s 24-hour economy policy, dismissing it as a joke and self-mockery.

Mr Iddrisu highlighted the NDC’s past challenges in managing a 12-hour economy during their political tenure due to frequent power outages, commonly known as ‘dumsor,’ which adversely affected businesses and employment.

The NDC’s 24-hour economy proposal, a key policy for the upcoming 2024 general elections, aims to enable businesses to operate round the clock, boosting revenue and providing job opportunities.

However, Deputy Majority Whip Habib Iddrisu, speaking on GHOne TV, deemed the NDC’s vision as unrealistic, questioning their ability to sustain a 24-hour economy when they struggled with a 12-hour one.

Iddrisu attributed the ‘dumsor’ crisis to the NDC’s mismanagement of the energy sector, resulting in the shutdown of small-scale businesses and job losses.

He criticized the NDC for making a mockery of themselves, emphasizing the need for a reliable electricity supply to support any 24-hour economy.

Regarding the current intermittent power outages, Iddrisu clarified that the situation was not comparable to the ‘dumsor’ era and stated that ongoing maintenance work on power lines was causing temporary outages.

He maintained that Ghana was not experiencing ‘dumsor’ under the current administration and emphasized the government’s efforts to address the power-related challenges.

Media personality Barima Kaakyire Agyemang has revealed that the flagbearer of the NDC, John Mahama, has donated GHS 5,000 in support of K.K. Kabobo’s medical bills.

Distressing images and video footage shared by broadcaster Barima Kaakyire Agyemang revealed iconic Highlife musician KK Kabobo to be grappling with a serious liver ailment.

Agyemang, who captured the touching scene alongside KK Kabobo’s wife on Monday, February 26, 2024, highlighted the musician’s visibly weakened state, underscoring the pressing need for immediate assistance.

During a touching conversation with KK Kabobo, Agyemang recounted the musician’s struggle to communicate, emphasising the gravity of his deteriorating health.

Kabobo disclosed that persistent pain in his right abdomen led him to seek medical attention, culminating in a diagnosis revealing a critical issue with his liver.

Agyemang stressed the severity of Kabobo’s condition, preventing the upload of the full interview due to the musician’s struggle to speak.

With Kabobo’s consent, Agyemang captured images to accompany the plea for aid, recognizing the urgent requirement for public awareness and financial support.

Although not explicitly requesting help, KK Kabobo’s overwhelming medical expenses prompted Agyemang to appeal for donations.

The veteran musician, known for hits like ‘Onyame Ahu Wo’ and ‘Running Away,’ transitioned to a pastoral role in 2012, following ordination as a Reverend Minister, motivated by a divine calling to bless others through his music and ministry.

Naana Jane, Debrah, Awuah-Darko being considered for Mahama’s running mate position

Three prominent figures have emerged as potential running mates for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, ahead of the 2024 elections.

The contenders are 2020 running mate Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, and ex-Tema Oil Refinery boss Kwame Awuah-Darko.

Among the trio, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is perceived as the frontrunner, given her active roles on behalf of Mahama at recent events. However, she has faced criticism within the party for perceived contributions during the 2020 elections, especially in the Central Region.

Julius Debrah, despite previously expressing disinterest, remains a notable contender. His close association with Mahama, as seen at public events like the 2024 State of the Nation Address, adds to his candidacy.

The third candidate, Kwame Awuah-Darko, former Managing Director of BOST and TOR, is recognized for his transformative leadership under Mahama’s administration.

A businessman and banker, he hails from a prominent traditional family in the Ashanti Region.

Mahama has submitted his choice of running mate to the NDC, with the Council of Elders set to discuss the matter on March 7, 2024. Following the elders’ meeting, the National Executive Committee will convene to further consider the nomination.

I will send nurses abroad to reduce unemployment in Ghana – Mahama

The presidential hopeful of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has pledged to explore the option of exporting nurses as part of strategies to alleviate unemployment in Ghana.

During a visit to the Savannah Region, where he engaged with student nurses, the former president emphasized that deploying nurses abroad would be a more viable solution than having them unemployed within the country.

Mahama stressed the importance of ensuring gainful employment for nurses after completing their education.

To implement this, he proposed the establishment of a dedicated unit at the Ministry of Employment tasked with recruiting nurses who meet international standards for deployment.

“We want to increase the production of health workers and nurses, and we will employ them to work for us as many as we can, but at the same time, we will sign agreements with other countries where we can post our nurses to go and work on fixed contracts.

“So under the Ministry of Employment, we will have a unit that can recruit nurses and make sure they are of the standard that can work in international hospitals.”

He outlined the plan to have a specialized unit within the Ministry of Employment responsible for recruiting nurses and ensuring they meet the required standards for international hospital employment.

According to the opposition party, it remains committed to working tirelessly towards positive transformation and progress for the country.

“We express our sincere gratitude to our supporters for their steadfast loyalty and unwavering commitment. Together, let us join hands and embark on this journey towards a brighter future for Ghana. Long live the NDC, long live Ghana!” the statement concluded.

  • I will export nurses, other health workers to check unemployment – Mahama

I will export nurses, other health workers to check unemployment – Mahama

John Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has proposed a solution to address unemployment among healthcare workers, particularly nurses, by advocating for their deployment to other countries.

He believes that sending nurses abroad would be more beneficial than allowing them to remain unemployed in Ghana.

During a visit to the Savannah Region, Mahama emphasized the importance of providing employment opportunities for nurses after they complete their education.

To implement this plan, he suggested the establishment of a specialized unit within the Ministry of Employment responsible for recruiting qualified nurses for overseas deployment.

Mahama promised that if elected, he would work to significantly reduce unemployment rates in the country.

This proposition comes at a time when Ghana is experiencing a mass exodus of health professionals.

The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association has revealed a staggering exodus, with 732 nurses having left the country since the onset of January 2024 alone.

Per reports, poor working conditions and the lack of job opportunities have pushed health workers to seek greener pastures elsewhere.

There is not even enough electricity for one shift – Kwame Pianim pokes holes in Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy

Renowned Ghanaian economist Kwame Pianim has raised concerns about the feasibility of former President John Mahama’s proposed 24-hour economy policy, questioning where the necessary electricity would come from.

Mr Pianim, a leading member of the NPP, criticized the lack of clarity surrounding the policy, stating, “We don’t even have electricity for one shift so where are we going to get electricity for three shifts?”

Speaking on the AM Show, Mr Pianim highlighted a previous attempt to implement a 24-hour economy, where repairs were scheduled at night to ease traffic congestion. However, he noted that the initiative faced challenges due to security concerns for supervisors.

Mr Pianim emphasized the need for careful consideration and realistic planning, stating, “Let’s think through everything carefully and say what can we do now. There is nowhere in the world that they run a 24-hour economy.”

Former President John Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy aims to boost economic activity by extending working hours beyond the traditional 8-hour shift.

The policy envisions round-the-clock operations in key sectors such as manufacturing, healthcare, transportation, and services.

Mahama has argued that implementing a 24-hour economy would create more job opportunities, increase productivity, and drive economic growth.

Speaking at the 2024 NDC Policy Dialogue in Peduase in the Eastern Region on Friday, Mr. Mahama emphasized key promises, including reducing the size of the government, eliminating ex gratia, and scrapping the e-levy.

“I mean business on the promises I have made and intend to keep them,” the former President said.

The NDC flagbearer underscored the practicality of his policy proposals, such as the “24-Hour Economy” and the “Digital Jobs Initiative,” asserting that these initiatives could significantly improve the country’s prospects, especially its economic landscape.

“Since 2021, I have outlined over 60 distinct policy proposals, meticulously designed to restore our economy and overall national life to a much improved state,” he added.

The two-day NDC Policy Dialogue witnessed active participation from various party groups, engaging in discussions and refining policy proposals slated for inclusion in the party’s 2024 election manifesto.

Newly created regions have seen little development from Akufo-Addo – Mahama

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has criticized the government for what he perceives as a lack of development in the six new regions.

He believes that the six new regions established by the Akufo-Addo administration are merely symbolic entities without significant development.

During a meeting with traditional authorities at the Jakpa Palace, he pledged to prioritize the development of the newly created regions if elected.

“It is easy to create a region, but the region must have certain things to be a region, the six regions that were created, were created just in name. The things that must exist so when you enter the region you will know this is a region are still not there.

“I can assure you that not only for the Savannah region but all the six new when the NDC comes into power, the things that you need to be called a region, we will make sure that you have them.”

During his address, Mahama also expressed his disappointment in the government’s decision to halt the Damomgo Water Project.

The former President emphasized the importance of tangible development initiatives in these regions, reiterating his commitment to fostering their progress if given the opportunity to lead again.

The ongoing “Building Ghana Tour” by the NDC aims to address public concerns and incorporate them into the party’s manifesto for the upcoming election.

Mahama criticizes Bawumia of plagiarizing his policies

Former President John Dramani Mahama has accused Vice President Bawumia of copying his sincere promises while being complicit in the current state of poor governance in Ghana.

Speaking on Friday, February 23, 2024, at the NDC LAB Policy Dialogue held at the Peduase Valley Resort in Aburi, Mahama expressed satisfaction with the conclusion of the policy dialogue. He stressed the importance of the NDC’s readiness in presenting policy proposals well in advance of the upcoming elections.

Mahama applauded the NDC LAB for its critical thinking and innovative policy suggestions aimed at enhancing the socio-economic conditions of Ghanaians. He underscored the urgent need for national reconstruction in the face of socio-economic challenges, including high unemployment and deteriorating living standards.

He criticized the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration for mismanagement, corruption, and a lack of accountability, which has resulted in a severe economic crisis.

Mahama pointed out that Vice President Bawumia’s recent promises to streamline government, eliminate certain taxes, and undertake constitutional reforms are ideas he has long advocated for. He accused Bawumia of adopting these proposals despite his involvement in the poor governance of the current administration.

“The widespread acceptance of the 24-hour policy appears to have sent the NPP campaign into a tailspin, leading to a frantic effort to attack it through calumny and disinformation in the last few days. We are fortified in the knowledge that the days when the NPP assumed that they could use falsehood to hoodwink Ghanaians for electoral advantage are over, mainly because of their horrific performance in the last seven years after they were entrusted with the administration of our dear nation, Ghana.

“There is no room in leadership for excuse-making and flight from responsibility. You cannot make grandiose promises about the economy in 2016 only to be put in charge, run it down, push all of us into suffering and hardships and turn around to say you were only the mate of a reckless driver and, therefore, you should be excused from blame. Not only do I have a much better and measurable performance record in both my role as Vice President and Head of the Economic Management Team, and later as President, than my leading contender in this year’s elections, I also have a record of taking responsibility.

“The same cannot be said of my opponent. I note that my long-espoused pledges to substantially reduce the size of government by having much fewer Ministries, Ministers and appointees, abolish the payment of ex-gratia, scrap taxes like the e-levy and carry out far-reaching constitutional and governance reforms, have compelled my opponent to promise the same despite being front of centre of the poor governance under which all these ills have taken place,” he said.

Mahama reaffirmed his dedication to fulfilling his pledges, which encompass establishing a robust governance framework and implementing initiatives to foster job creation and bolster indigenous enterprises within the digital economy. He provided assurance to Ghanaians regarding safeguarding their votes and guaranteeing an equitable electoral result.

“Since 2021, I have outlined over sixty (60) different policy proposals, carefully curated to restore our economy and national life into a much better state.

“In particular, the 24-hour economy policy has found resonance with most Ghanaians, especially the youth, as confirmed by both data-based and anecdotal evidence.

“This policy has offered hope to our increasingly restless and despondent population that the half measures and mismanagement they see under the Akufo-Addo/ Bawumia government, which has plunged us into suffering, will soon give way to more prudent and forward-looking programmes.

“The 24-hour economy remains the surest way to achieve significant economic expansion, boost productivity, meet demand, curb unbridled imports and their attendant adverse effects on our economy, currency, and, above all, generate well-paying jobs for the millions of people without employment,” he said.

A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwamena Duncan, has mocked Former President, John Dramani Mahama‘s proposal to rename schools when he wins the upcoming December 7 elections.

According to him, he will someday want to rename Peace FM to Asomdwee FM as he  lacks comprehensive policies for the country.

Speaking on Peace FM Kwamena Duncan, questioned Mahama’s vision for Ghana, suggesting that renaming entities will not address the broader issues the country faces.

In contrast, he highlighted Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia for his emphasis on policies with broader impacts, particularly in the areas of food, transportation, power, and energy.

He added that Bawumia’s approach, as outlined in recent speeches, appears to be focused on addressing critical sectors that affect the daily lives of Ghanaians.

“ Mahama said he will rename Peace FM to Asomdwee FM. Mahama has no plans for Ghana. Renaming is part of his policies. Bawumia identified which impacts generally, Food, transportation, power and energy while introducing his policies,” he added.

Mahama has recently announced his plan to reverse the names given by President Nana Akufo-Addo to certain public universities if he assumes power later this year.

Speaking to party supporters, chiefs, and students in Zuarungu, Upper East Region, the NDC flagbearer criticized the NPP government for renaming universities established by the NDC government after their own political figures. Mahama questioned the rationale behind renaming existing universities, especially when the NPP had not initiated the construction of any universities themselves.

Upon taking office, President Akufo-Addo initiated the renaming of several public universities. Notably, the Wa campus of the University for Development Studies (UDS) became Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) in the Upper West Region, and the C.K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) in the Upper East Region. In 2018, the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) was renamed George Grant University of Mines and Technology.

Mahama has pledged to revert these name changes should he win the upcoming election.

He emphasized the importance of naming specific university facilities after individuals while highlighting that the overall names of public universities should align with their core purposes.

“We are going to rename the universities. Ghana has many heroes, and not only the heroes of the NPP tradition.

Mr Mahama added, “And so we will restore the original names, and the names that they have given them will be given to significant infrastructure in the universities.

“And we will add other people and name the infrastructure in the universities after them. But if the university is the University for Development Studies, that is its core mandate. It will be called the University for Development Studies.”

Will 24-hour economy policy be advantageous to churches? – Pastor quizzes Mahama

The leader of Nyametease Ampa Prayer Ministry in Kumasi, Prophet Kusi Appiah, has raised concerns about the potential impact of former president John Dramani Mahama’s proposed 24-hour economy on the Christian community.

The religious leader has challenged Mahama to outline the specific benefits that the 24-hour economy would bring to churches, highlighting that the Christian community is already active around the clock.

During an interview on Kumasi-based Wontumi TV/Radio on February 21, 2024, Prophet Kusi Appiah suggested that the inspiration behind the proposed 24-hour economy might stem from the continuous operations of churches.

He emphasized that many religious institutions are already engaged in round-the-clock activities.

Prophet Kusi Appiah expressed his belief that Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, could offer more substantial support to churches through his digitalization agenda compared to the 24-hour economy.

“I am already working 24 hours, so your 24-hour economy was even learned from us. What would the 24-hour do for churches?

“If you want me to change my mind or stop praying for Bawumia, they should come out and convince me that the 24-hour will add value to my church.

“But when it comes to digitalization, even as an illiterate, I can point out about three or four benefits of digitalization to the churches,” he stated during the interview.

Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council dismisses petition against Begoro Chief for endorsing Mahama

The Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council has dismissed a petition seeking the destoolment of Ankobeahene of Begoro, Barfuor Owiredu Agyarko Minta II, for endorsing John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

During a session held in chambers on Monday, February 19, 2024, both the petitioners and the respondent were “advised” on the matter.

The writ of summons, signed by D. M Ofori-Atta, the Secretary of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council, was issued at the behest of petitioners including Daasebre Ofosu Kwabi Ayebiahwe, Otweresohene/Odau, Okyeame Owusu, and Barfuor Sakyi Amankwaa II representing the Begoro stool.

They accused Nana Owiredu Agyarko Minta II of bringing disrepute to the Begoro stool by engaging in partisan politics.
The petition alleges that during a campaign event attended by John Mahama, the Ankobeahene purported to represent Nananom and the people of Begoro, made statements in favour of the NDC flagbearer.

These statements included endorsements of John Mahama as the next President of Ghana, advocating for the NDC’s 24-hour economy policy, and urging vigilance against alleged vote rigging by the current government.

Among the reliefs sought by the petitioners were an order of destoolment, nullification of the Ankobeahene’s conduct, a public recantation of the alleged comments, an apology to the petitioners and the people of Begoro, and punitive customary sanctions if found liable.

In response, Baffuor Owiredu Agyarko Minta II, through his counsel, Isaac M. Larbi, ESQ, filed a motion to set aside the petition, citing jurisdictional issues and questioning the capacity of the petitioners.

The affidavit supporting the motion filed by Ankobeahene’s counsel argues that the petitioners cannot initiate destoolment proceedings as they are not recognized kingmakers within his family.

Furthermore, it contends that the matter falls under the jurisdiction of the Judicial Committee, per legal stipulations.

“I object to the issuance of the petition on [the] grounds that the petitioners lack the capacity to institute the instant petition as they are not kingmakers within my family to qualify them to institute destoolment proceedings against me,” parts of the affidavit read.

  • NPP deliberately misleading Ghanaians on Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy – Sammy Gyamfi

NPP deliberately misleading Ghanaians on Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy – Sammy Gyamfi

The National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has accused the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) of orchestrating a campaign against John Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy.

Mr. Gyamfi alleges that the NPP is exhibiting signs of nervousness and panic regarding the widespread acceptance of this “commendable policy.”

He claims that the ruling party is making concerted efforts to undermine the policy’s credibility and popularity among the Ghanaian populace.

According to Mr. Gyamfi, the NPP lacks innovative ideas and viable policy propositions for job creation as the country approaches the crucial 2024 election.

He asserted that their primary agenda is to discredit the constructive policies presented by their main political rival.

In a press release issued on Monday, February 19, Mr. Gyamfi emphasized that the NPP’s attempts to derail Mr. Mahama’s initiatives will be futile, as the Ghanaian people have already embraced them.

He challenged the NPP to present alternative policies for scrutiny by the Ghanaian electorate before the December polls, so as to enable the citizens make informed decisions based on a comparative analysis of the two parties’ proposals.

“The failed Akufo-Addo/Bawumia NPP government has become very jittery and is panicking over how this laudable policy proposal, described by the TUC as a game-changer, continues to gain traction and acceptability among the Ghanaian people.”

“Clearly, the NPP is bereft of ideas and any sound policy proposition on job creation going into the crucial 2024 election. All the farcical jokes by their discredited flagbearer against the Mahama 24-hour economy strategy, have been roundly rejected by Ghanaians.”

“This is why they have resorted to a campaign of calumny and deliberate disinformation, ostensibly to discredit the well thought-through 24-Hour Economy Strategy of the nation-builder, H.E John Dramani Mahama.”

“You have played your role and deserve a rest” – Mahama pays tribute to Namibian President Hage Geingob

Former President John Dramani Mahama has offered his condolences to the people of Namibia following the passing of their former President, Hage Geingob.

Mr. Mahama, who is also the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), visited the Namibian Embassy to sign the book of condolence. He emphasized the strong relationship between Ghana and Namibia.

In a social media post, Mahama described the late Namibian President as a close friend. He pledged to continue working hard to uphold and strengthen the positive relations between Ghana and Namibia.

Hage Geingob, Namibia’s president has died

“We cherish the relationship developed over the years with the people of Namibia. President Geingob was a patriot and a freedom fighter.”

“I remember with fond memories the conversations we had about the struggle for freedom from apartheid and the respect held for Ghana’s role in the liberation of Africa. It was a delight to share those moments with you and your wife during our summit in Malta. You have played your role and deserve a rest,” he added.

  • Mahama is not prepared to lead Ghana in 2025 – Asenso-Boakye

Mahama is not prepared to lead Ghana in 2025 – Asenso-Boakye

Minister for Roads and Highways and Member of Parliament for Bantama constituency, Francis Asenso-Boakye, criticized former President John Mahama, suggesting that he is not adequately prepared for the presidency.

Asenso-Boakye’s comments were in response to Mahama’s recent statement about needing a “honeymoon period” if elected in 2025, which Asenso-Boakye interpreted as a sign of unpreparedness and a reluctance to immediately address the nation’s challenges.

Speaking at a New Patriotic Party (NPP) gathering during the acclamation of Samuel Abu Jinapor as the parliamentary candidate for Damongo in the Savanna region, Asenso-Boakye underscored the importance of Ghanaians electing Vice President Dr. Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate for the December election.

Asenso-Boakye highlighted Bawumia’s readiness and active engagement in governance as reasons for his endorsement.

“Former President John Mahama’s statement regarding needing a honeymoon period indicates his lack of preparedness for the job,” Asenso-Boakye asserted. “We cannot entrust our nation to someone who seeks to delay action while leadership is urgently needed.”

In contrast, Asenso-Boakye praised Dr. Bawumia’s readiness, stating, “Dr. Bawumia will hit the ground running from day one, addressing the challenges facing our nation with his bold solutions.”

At a recent New Patriotic Party (NPP) gathering, Francis Asenso-Boakye expressed confidence in the NPP’s track record of development and urged Ghanaians to reward the party’s hard work by supporting its candidates. He specifically commended Samuel Abu Jinapor, the Damongo MP, as a diligent young leader dedicated to the progress of his constituents, urging voters to rally behind him in the 2024 elections for continued development in the region.

The event featured speeches from other prominent NPP officials, including Hon. Stephen Asamoah Boateng, Minister for Chieftaincy and Culture; Fatimatu Abubakar, Information Minister designate; General Secretary of the party, Justin Frimpong Koduah, and various dignitaries.

You’ve not been declared winner of 2024 elections, stop acting as one – CPP to Mahama

The former General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), James Kwabena Bomfeh, popularly known as Kabila, has cautioned former President John Dramani Mahama against prematurely assuming victory in the 2024 elections.

Expressing his reservations about Mahama’s confidence in winning, Bomfeh urged the former president to show restraint and avoid making premature claims of victory.

During an interview on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo on February 14, 2024, Bomfeh questioned the basis for Mahama’s conviction that he would emerge as the winner in the upcoming elections.

“I want to issue a caution to the former president. I am not aware of the person who has informed him that he has won the elections. Look, this is not the first time; if you have indeed won the elections, then why are you contesting?

“This is the same behaviour that led them to court in the 2020 elections, and they couldn’t provide a single piece of evidence.

“I urge the Peace Council to advise them about the concerning attitude of declaring themselves winners before the votes are even cast. The former president is going around stating that all indications show he will win the elections,” he said.

I have not asked to be Mahama’s running mate though I’m interested to serve Ghana – Togbe Afede

The Asogli State Council has emphatically denied allegations suggesting that Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of Asogli, has directed individuals to lobby for his selection as the running mate of National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Asogli State Council clarified that Togbe Afede XIV, while willing to serve Ghana in any capacity, has not instructed any person or group to advocate for his candidacy as the running mate.

The statement is in response to recent reports linking Togbe Afede to the possibility of being John Mahama’s running mate for the 2024 Presidential election.

The Asogli State explained that a group known as the “Change Makers Forum” recently approached Togbe Afede to consider joining President Mahama as his running mate.

According to the Council, Togbe Afede responded that the choice of a running mate is the prerogative of the flag bearer, and he would not reject any opportunity to serve the country.

The statement clarified that Togbe Afede did not mandate anyone or any group to lobby for his selection as a running mate.

The Asogli State Council apologized for any shock and embarrassment caused to the chiefs, kingmakers, the people of Asogli, and others.

“But Togbe has not mandated anybody or group to “lobby” for his choice as running mate,” it added.

It also emphasized the open-door policy of the Agbogbomefia’s office, encouraging direct communication on matters, concerns, or suggestions requiring attention.

“The office of the Agbogbomefia operates an open-door policy and is open to communication, feedback, and inquiries from all citizens and stakeholders. We encourage individuals or groups to reach out directly on any matters, concerns or suggestions that require attention,” it added.

  • Mahama initiated Mobile Money interoperability initiative – Sammy Gyamfi

Mahama initiated Mobile Money interoperability initiative – Sammy Gyamfi

The National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, claims that the Mobile Money interoperability initiative, which began in 2016, was initiated under the leadership of former President John Dramani Mahama.

According to Gyamfi, during the NDC/Mahama administration in 2016, a contract for the initiative was awarded to SIBTON by the Bank of Ghana.

Responding to the recent address by the 2024 NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, at UPSA, Gyamfi called on the vice president to provide accurate information to Ghanaians.

In his public address, Dr. Bawumia praised Ghana’s growth in the mobile money market, crediting the Akufo-Addo government’s investments.

However, Sammy Gyamfi contradicts Bawumia’s statements, alleging that the vice president terminated an NDC-awarded contract and awarded it to associates.

Mr Gyamfi asserted that the first MOMO interoperability system contract was awarded to SIBTON in 2016 under the NDC/Mahama government.

He accused Bawumia of canceling this Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) contract and awarding a new one to his associate’s company.

Mr Gyamfi refuted Bawumia’s claim that the SIBTON contract was inflated by GHS4.6 billion, explaining that it was a BOT project where the company would charge normal user fees projected to be GHS4.6 billion over a 15-year period, inclusive of setup and operating costs.

Sammy Gyamfi stated, “On the contrary, the first MOMO interoperability system contract was awarded to a company known as SIBTON by the Bank of Ghana in 2016 under the visionary NDC/Mahama government. Bawumia only came to cancel this Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) contract under false pretenses and awarded a new contract to his crony company.

“The claim by Bawumia that the SIBTON contract was inflated by GHS4.6 billion is a lie. It was a Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) project. Government was not going to spend a pesewa on it. Rather, the company was going to charge the normal user fees which was projected to be GHS4.6 billion over a 15-year period as their gross revenue, inclusive of their setup and operating cost.

He concluded by stating that even before the current government took office, MOMO interoperability had been conceived and initiated, with a contract signed for that purpose, and calls on Bawumia to stop spreading lies.

“Even before this BOT interoperability project, Ghanaians could send MOMO across networks through the TOKEN system that the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlements System (GhIPSS) Limited had provided. Remember the TOKEN MOMO SYSTEM? Clearly, even before this government took office, MOMO interoperability had been long conceived and initiated. A contract had been signed to that effect. Bawumia should stop the lies,” he concluded.

Presidential contender John Mahama from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has emphasized his commitment to avoiding exaggerated promises for political gain, particularly steering clear of across-the-board salary increases.

Speaking at a town hall meeting in Tamale during his ‘Building the Ghana We Want Together Tour,’ the former president stressed his preference for honesty in securing votes.

In addressing pre-tertiary teachers, Mahama stated, “I’ve said that the economy is in a big mess, so, I cannot promise everybody I’m going to increase salary and all that.”

He contrasted his approach with past promises made by President Nana Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party, stating, “I won’t be like those dishonest people who came to promise heaven that they will build factories in every district, they’ll build a dam in every village, I’m not that kind of person.”

While acknowledging the economic challenges, Mahama refrained from committing to a salary increase.

Instead, he acknowledged the difficulties faced by pre-tertiary teachers and proposed solutions, such as providing accommodation in schools to encourage more teachers to reside on campus.

Begoro Chief risks destoolment over ‘campaigning’ for Mahama

The Ankobeahene of the Begoro Stool, Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II, has been summoned before the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council following allegations of endorsing the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, ahead of the country’s upcoming elections.

This comes after Otweresohene, Daasebre Ofosu Kwabi Ayebiahwe and Okyeame Owusu, filed a petition accusing Nana Owiredu Agyarko of engaging in partisan politics, which they believe tarnishes the reputation of the Begoro Stool.

According to the petitioners, the Ankobeahene brought disrepute to the Begoro Stool by involving himself in partisan politics during Mahama’s recent campaign tour of the Eastern Region, where he endorsed the former President.

The petitioners further claim that during Mahama’s engagement with traditional leadership, the chief mentioned that Nananom had invoked the gods to counter the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s “breaking the 8” mantra, and cautioned against alleged vote-rigging tactics by the current government.

Former President John Dramani Mahama embarked on a two-day ‘Building Ghana’ tour of the Eastern Region, starting on January 30, 2024.

Engaging his subjects, Balfour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II said, “We are looking for the day that we will use our hands to vote for JDM (John Dramani Mahama) for him to lead us. The 24-hour economy, he said, is coming to help all of us. Let us do well to open our eyes properly. Breaking the 8 will not happen, we have done the necessary tradition.”

Confirming the summons, Abuakwa Traditional State Secretary Dan Marfo Ofori Attah stated that the petitioners seek various remedies, including destoolment as Ankobeahene of Begoro, nullification of the respondent’s conduct, a public apology, and punitive customary sanctions if found guilty.

The hearing on this matter has been rescheduled to take place on February 19, 2024, following its initial date of February 12, 2024.

  • Ghana Card system wasn’t developed by Akufo-Addo’s administration but Mahama’s – Sammy Gyamfi

Ghana Card system wasn’t developed by Akufo-Addo’s administration but Mahama’s – Sammy Gyamfi

The Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has highlighted the substantial role played by the former John Mahama administration in the establishment of the Ghana Card system.

Gyamfi contends that the NDC government initiated the implementation of the Ghana Card as early as 2016, asserting that the NPP government merely continued the system developed by its predecessor.

He asserted that in 2016, the Mahama administration gathered biometric and demographic data for approximately 16 million Ghanaians, processing around 4.7 million cards. Gyamfi, in response to Dr. Bawumia’s recent address to the nation, claimed that the Mahama administration distributed about 900,000 cards before leaving office in 2016.

Gyamfi criticized Dr. Bawumia for allegedly overlooking the significant contributions of the NDC/Mahama administration to the development of the Ghana Card system.

He emphasized that, by 2016, the NDC/Mahama government had passed a law designating the Ghana Card as the sole document for identification purposes in any transaction (L.I 2111).

He argued that the government merely continued the implementation of a system initiated by the NDC/Mahama government, acknowledging the contributions of successive administrations, including that of former President J.A Kufuor and former President J.E Atta-Mills. Gyamfi noted that Dr. Bawumia did not credit President Akufo-Addo in his address.

Read below portions of Sammy Gyamfi’s speaking notes on Dr Bawumia’s address to the nation

    THE GHANA CARD LIE

    • *Dr. Bawumia deliberately ignored the significant contributions of the NDC/Mahama administration in developing the GhanaCard system to what it is today.
    • It is important to note, that by 2016, the NDC/Mahama administration had:
    1. Passed the law that makes the Ghana Card the sole document for identification purposes  for any transaction (L.I 2111)
    2. Collected biometric and demographic data on about 16 million Ghanaians

iii. Processed about 4.7 million cards

    1. Distributed about 900,000 cards
    2. Procured 9 million blank cards
    • Upon assumption of office in 2017, Dr. Bawumia constituted a three-man committee headed by Prof. Ken Attafuah, to review the contract and implementation of the Ghana Card system.
    • The committee established the facts enumerated above which is contained on page 1 of the report and recommended the use of the existing database to continue from where the NDC left off.
    • Indeed, the NIA boss Prof. Ken Attafuah told Parliament that the contract that was signed by the NDC/Mahama administration with the Margins Group, is the same contract that is being implemented today.
    • Clearly, this government only came to continue the implementation of a system that had already been developed by the NDC/Mahama government, as a continuation of what was started under President Kuffour and continued by President Mills of blessed memory.
    • The Ghana card credit must therefore be shared by all successive governments who have contributed to where we are today. Note that Bawumia does not even credit his boss, Akufo-Addo…
  • 2024 elections: We must monitor NIA to check fraud over use of Ghana card – Mahama

2024 elections: We must monitor NIA to check fraud over use of Ghana card – Mahama

Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2024 election, John Dramani Mahama, is advocating for stakeholders in the electoral process to be granted access to monitor the operations of the National Identification Authority (NIA).

He asserts that this measure would establish effective checks and balances, crucial for preventing fraud and exploitation of the system, especially amid discussions proposing the Ghana Card as the sole identification document for general elections.

Mr. Mahama conveyed this stance during a workshop for the minority caucus in parliament held at the Volta Serene Hotel in Ho, the capital of the Volta Region.

“We demand that the process must necessarily include a system that enables all political parties and relevant stakeholders to possess the capacity to monitor to avoid fraud and exploitation to the undue advantage of any of the political stakeholders,” he said.

He reiterated the NDC’s opposition to the proposed utilization of the Ghana Card in the forthcoming general election, citing concerns that the National Identification Authority (NIA) is not adequately prepared to handle such a significant responsibility.

The former president elucidated that the Authority has not completed the registration of all eligible individuals, and furthermore, a considerable number of the cards issued have not been distributed to applicants nationwide.

“The Ghana card is a relatively new feature of our national life and its merit in the scheme of things. At the moment, it is being blemished more as a political tool around in all manners fashioned towards elections.”

“There is a need to allow sufficient time for its full integration into our way of life before this kind of doubtful excuses of all other legitimately acquired credible and time-tested forms of identification are implemented.”

“Until full and nearly total coverage is achieved in the rollout of the Ghana Card, room must be made for those who are yet to be served to exercise their democratic right of voting. They cannot be excused from the voter’s register due to no fault of theirs”, Mr Mahama argued.

  • Don’t take credit for what you didn’t do, we fixed dumsor – NDC to NPP

Don’t take credit for what you didn’t do, we fixed dumsor – NDC to NPP

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has contradicted Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s assertion that the Akufo-Addo government successfully resolved the nation’s power crisis, known as dumsor.

Rejecting Dr. Bawumia’s claim, the NDC urged Ghanaians to dismiss it, emphasizing its inaccuracy.

Addressing the nation on Wednesday, February 7, as the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Bawumia highlighted the achievements of the current administration, including the alleged resolution of dumsor.

He credited this accomplishment to a decisive and intentional government program.

In response, the NDC issued a press statement challenging Dr. Bawumia’s assertions, maintaining that the power crisis was actually addressed during the tenure of former President John Mahama, whom they hailed as a nation builder.

“We started with a clear, decisive and deliberate program to, among other things, stabilise the economy, fix dumsor, fix the NHIS, fix the roads, clear the arrears, make education free and accessible, significantly enhance social protection for the vulnerable in society, industrialize our economy, tackle youth unemployment and empower farmers,” he stated.

Contrary to Dr. Bawumia’s claims, the NDC argued that it was the NDC/Mahama government that successfully addressed DUMSOR.

They pointed out that Ghana experienced dumsor in various years before 2012, and President Mahama, recognizing the issue, promised to fix it.

“On the contrary, the facts show that it was the NDC/Mahama government that fixed DUMSOR. Note that Ghana recorded DUMSOR in 1984, 1997, 2006-2007, before the problem reoccured in 2012, as a result of a disruption of the West African Gas pipeline, which created a power generation deficit.””The visionary and experienced Nation Builder, President Mahama accepted responsibility for the problem and promised to fix it. Indeed, by 2016 he had comprehensively fixed DUMSOR and ended load shedding.”

By 2016, he had comprehensively resolved dumsor by introducing power plants like Ameri and Karpower, increasing the country’s generation capacity by over 800 Megawatts.

The NDC’s statement also highlighted that the NPP, including Bawumia, now blames Mahama for creating what they term as “excess capacity” in power generation.

  • Togbe Afede to be Mahama’s running mate?

Togbe Afede to be Mahama’s running mate?

Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of Asogli State, is reportedly prepared to step down from his traditional stool to assume the role of the running mate for the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, according to sources.

Ivan Tsidi Akrobortu, a lead advocate for the Change Makers Forum, is reported to have made this claim.

According to a report by Ghanaweb, citing graphic.com.gh, Togbe Afede XIV’s name has emerged as a potential contender to partner with John Dramani Mahama for the upcoming 2024 elections.

Tsidi Akrobortu, as reported, has advocated for the selection of the Agbogbomefia as Mahama’s running mate, citing Togbe Afede’s extensive expertise in finance, economy, banking, and entrepreneurship.

Mr Akrobortu believes that Togbe Afede’s inclusion would greatly impact the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and enhance their prospects of winning the election.

“Togbe is ready to abdicate his stool in fulfilment of the constitutional requirement once he is selected as the running mate to the NDC flag bearer,” Akrobortu is quoted to have said by graphic.com.gh, according to Ghanaweb.

The selection of a running mate for John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming 2024 elections is a crucial decision for the National Democratic Congress (NDC). According to reports, the party is seeking a candidate who possesses the ability to understand the president’s mindset, offer honest feedback based on data and facts, and effectively analyze government policies.

    Togbe Afede meets Mahama

The pool of potential candidates has reportedly been narrowed down to three individuals representing different regions: Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang from the Central Region, Julius Debrah from the Eastern Region, and Kwame Awuah-Darko from the Ashanti Region.

Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang previously served as Mahama’s running mate in the December 2020 general election. However, she faced criticism for allegedly not adding value to the ticket and failing to secure victory in her home region of the Central Region.

Julius Debrah, a former chief of staff during Mahama’s administration, is being considered as another potential candidate. Hailing from the Eastern Region, Debrah brings a wealth of experience from his time in government.

Kwame Awuah-Darko, a former Managing Director of BOST and TOR under the Mahama administration, is also under consideration. Known for his contributions to the transformation of these institutions, Awuah-Darko is a businessman and banker with roots in the Ashanti Region, where he hails from a prominent traditional family.

The selection of Mahama’s running mate will be a strategic decision for the NDC, as they aim to bolster their chances in the upcoming elections and present a strong and cohesive leadership team to the electorate.

  • Mahama ended ‘dumsor’ in 2016 – NDC to Bawumia

Mahama ended ‘dumsor’ in 2016 – NDC to Bawumia

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has rejected Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s claim that the Akufo-Addo government successfully resolved Ghana’s power crisis, commonly known as dumsor.

Dr. Bawumia made these remarks during his address on Wednesday, February 7, as the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He touted the current administration’s achievements, including the purported resolution of dumsor, attributing this accomplishment to a decisive and intentional government program.

In response, the NDC issued a press statement contesting Dr. Bawumia’s claims, insisting that the power crisis was actually addressed during the tenure of former President John Mahama.

They hailed Mahama as a nation builder, attributing the resolution of the power crisis to his administration.

Dismissing Dr. Bawumia’s assertion, the NDC urged Ghanaians to disregard it, stating that it is inaccurate.

“The visionary and experienced Nation Builder, President Mahama accepted responsibility for the problem and promised to fix it. Indeed, by 2016 he had comprehensively fixed DUMSOR and ended load shedding.”

  • Mahama has no credibility – Aide to Bawumia

Mahama has no credibility – Aide to Bawumia

Akbar Yussif Rohullah Khomeini, an aide to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has labeled ex-President, John Dramani Mahama has an individual who lacks credibility.

In an interview with TV3, Mr Khomeini pointed to the infamous Airbus scandal and bribery allegations as evidence, contending that Mahama’s credibility, particularly on matters of corruption, is severely compromised.

According to him, Mahama lacks integrity in the fight against corruption.

“I think that as somebody who passionately advocates for Mahama  he should be the last person to use the word credibility, especially on matters bothering corruption. Mr Mahama is the only politician I know at the highest level who is incurably corrupt, there is absolutely no doubt about that.

“In February 2009, according to the Federal Court report on the matter of the infamous Airbus scandal, the court established conclusively that Mr Mahama as early as February 2009  was in a constant email conversation with officials of Airbus.

His statement was in response to Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who accused Dr. Bawumia of being a habitual liar.

Mr Gyamfi alleged that Bawumia deceived the public in 2016 and 2020 with falsehoods to secure victories for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

However, Mr Khomeini, countering these claims, criticized Mahama’s credibility, citing the infamous Airbus scandal and accusing him of receiving bribes.

He argued that Mahama’s reputation as a corrupt politician is well-established, both locally and internationally.

“We also have listened, after a series of investigations by the Special Prosecutor that it was established clearly that Mr Mahama was the man designated Government Official 1. It was this man who used the name of his brother as the intermediary to receive bribes worth 8 million dollars with a phony company registered in Spain that phony company took 3million dollars out of the money and remitted over 5 million dollars to Mr. Mahana.”

He added “Indeed, if we were in any democratic culture that works effectively, Mr Mahama should not be leading any political party into any elections. This is a man whose reputation as a corrupt man is known locally and internationally. In fact, in the BBC interview he was asked ‘Have you ever received bribes?’ he dilly-dallied and asked a counter question whether as a human being or as president.  When Dr Bawumia spoke at UPSA, he proudly declared that as a human being and as vice president he is not corrupt.”

He suggested that, given Mahama’s alleged involvement in corruption, he should not lead any political party in elections.

“It is very laughable that our friends in the NPP and Bawumia think that they can once again hoodwink the people with lies.

“Ghanaians are wide awake. The days when Bawumia could get away with his lectures as we saw in opposition which were full of lies, are gone. He got away with it in 2016 and in 2020, but they will not be third time lucky in 2024. The whole propaganda that he was the economic Messiah, and he had the magic wand has been exposed.“

The people have no confidence and trust in Bawumia, his people are faced with the challenge of marketing a candidate who is a chronic liar,” he said.

  • A spare driver is that back-up driver who does nothing – Miracles Aboagye jabs Mahama

A spare driver is that back-up driver who does nothing – Miracles Aboagye jabs Mahama

Presidential staffer, Miracles Aboagye, has criticised former President John Mahama by comparing him to a spare driver who is essentially idle and inactive.

This comes after an old video featuring former President John Dramani Mahama describing himself as a “spare driver” resurfaced, adding fuel to the ongoing debate sparked by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s analogy of being a “driver’s mate” in the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government.

Dr Bawumia, in a recent statement on his plans for Ghana as a presidential candidate, likened his role as vice president to that of a driver’s mate but emphasized that if elected President in 2024, he would be in the driver’s seat with constitutionally mandated authority.

The emergence of the old video has intensified the debate, with both Mahama and Bawumia being presidential candidates for the 2024 elections. Critics argue that Bawumia’s analogy was an attempt to distance himself from the failures of the current government, while Mahama’s supporters contend that Mahama took responsibility for his role in the Mills-led government.

In the 2012 video taken during a presidential debate organised by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), Mahama, who succeeded late President John Atta Mills, urged Ghanaians to vote him as president for his second and final term, portraying himself as the “spare driver” completing Mills’ unexpired term.

“The NDC government has done a lot in four years. Our constitution gives our president two terms, take it that I am the spare driver, caretaker or whatever; Prof. Mills of blessed memory started the process, and I am finishing his unexpired term. I believe that the NDC government deserves a second term to be able to build on the foundation it has laid in these four years, and I am certain that Ghanaians would vote for me and turn me from the spare driver that I’ve been described as, into the actual driver of the bus leading us into the destination that we want to go to,” he stated.

In reaction, Mr Aboagye in a post on X wrote, “A spare driver is that back up driver who does nothing but whose role is only to wait for the moment the driver is indisposed/unavailable then he can take the driver’s place. This understanding is basic and doesn’t need further explanation.

“A Drivers mate cannot drive the car for the journey. Like we experience in our Ghanaian setting, the best the mate can do in terms of touching the steering wheel is to park it well or take it to the washing bay close by.”

According to him, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has not distanced himself from the results this government has churned out, be they positive or negative.

“No where and at ano time has @MBawumia disassociate himself from his government. That assertion only exists on NDC Platforms. Mahama says I wasn’t the Driver but the spare Driver. Bawumia says I am not the Driver but the Mate.”

He noted that Mahama has corroborated the surmise that the Vice President role is not as effective as being assumed.

“Clearly, Mahama supports the constitutional view that, the Vice President’s is never the Driver. Mahama has just been caught in the usual double standards and that explains your plenty twists. But we understand , we don’t need your explanation.”

  • Dan Kwaku Yeboah vows to keep Mahama’s name out of his mouth over ‘fear’ of attacks from NDC

Dan Kwaku Yeboah vows to keep Mahama’s name out of his mouth over ‘fear’ of attacks from NDC

Head of Sports in the media, Dan Kwaku Yeboah has declined to provide commentary on the pledge made by John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), regarding a proposed new strategy for football management in the country.

During one of his campaign tours, John Mahama proposed the adoption of a sporting blueprint aimed at reshaping the management of the Black Stars. This strategy would pivot the team’s composition towards players from the Ghana Premier League, departing from the prevalent reliance on foreign-based players.

Mahama’s stance rests on the belief that nurturing a robust Ghana Premier League would yield players of sufficient calibre to competitively represent the nation on the international stage.

“We will build the new Black Stars based on homegrown players,” Mahama asserted. “Domestic players who have trained together for a long time and work as a team, and then we will bring in the foreign ones to blend with them.”

The issue came up for discussion on the Tuesday, February 6, 2024 edition of Okay FM’s breakfast show and Dan Kwaku Yeboah, who was one of three panellists on the show declined to comment on the promise made by the former president.

While maintaining that his decision is not influenced by fear of anyone, Kwaku Yeboah was worried by what he views as the consistent spinning of his comments on any issue relative to the former president.

“Only God gives life and only he can take it so I don’t fear any human. I respect every human being but I don’t fear anyone. I have been framed as someone who revels in attacking men, and I wasn’t brought up that way so it hurts to see those things. If he were a family member of mine, I’d be glad, so I can never disrespect him, but I don’t want the attacks to continue,” he said.

Kwaku Yeboah mentioned his response to John Mahama’s promise to scrap the payment of ex-gratia as one incident where he was, in his estimation, attacked by communicators of the NDC.

He defended his statement, insisting that his comment was a mere analysis of Mahama’s promise and not what the NDC communicators perceive it to be.

“I won’t talk about him again. The attacks I suffered from NDC communicators after speaking about the ex-gratia are enough; I won’t talk about him again. I was accused of insulting John Mahama but it was a mere analogy that I drew that our constitution has aberrations.

“We’ve over the years attacked Rawlings due to the constitution so those who came after him should have made efforts to address the inefficiencies in the constitution. Atta Mills is the only person who attempted to address the situation and Mahama came after Mills so if he wanted to scrap ex-gratia, he had the best opportunity to do it because Mills had done the groundwork,” he said.

  • Rescind proposal to change election date – Mahama tells EC

Rescind proposal to change election date – Mahama tells EC

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has firmly declared the party’s stance against the proposal to shift the date of the 2024 elections from December to November.

“We [NDC] do not believe that this is being proposed in good faith,” he maintained.

During the opening of the Minority caucus meeting in Ho on Saturday (February 10), the NDC flagbearer, Mr. Mahama, asserted that the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) was displaying signs of anticipating defeat.

He accused the NPP of initiating strategies to discredit the upcoming elections, such as the sudden push by the Electoral Commission to change the election date from December 7 to November 7.

Mr. Mahama highlighted the Electoral Commission’s apparent lack of readiness to conduct the general elections, citing the District Assembly elections held in December last year. He pointed out elementary errors and significant logistical deficiencies, indicating a commission ill-prepared for managing elections.

“All indications point to a resounding victory for the NDC in the 2024 elections and an unmistakable rejection of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia/NPP government by the people of Ghana upon whom they have heaped very poor governance,” Mr Mahama added.

Expanding on his remarks, Mr. Mahama emphasized that the upcoming elections marked an opportunity to put an end to corruption, maladministration, nepotism, arrogance of power, incompetence, and wasteful use of state resources under the current government.

He suggested that the NPP, sensing its impending defeat, was resorting to fraudulent tactics to manipulate the election results in their favor.

“Regarding the issue of continuous registration, as canvassed by the Electoral Commission, we demand that the process must necessarily include a system that enables all political parties and relevant stakeholders to possess the capacity to monitor that exercise in real time, to avoid fraud and exploitation to the undue advantage of any party,” the NDC flag bearer insisted.

Mr Mahama commended the Minority in Parliament for living up to expectation by putting in valiant efforts to check the excesses of this government.

“The composition of this eighth Parliament under the Fourth Republic placed you at the centre of history and brought in its wake, a unique responsibility and burden of expectation never witnessed.

Mr Mahama reminded the caucus members not to lose sight of the fact that they, as the Minority in Parliament, had become the last bulwark between an overbearing, desperate and non-performing government, and the people.

“Ghanaians are counting on you to secure them against poor governance and keep this government in check” said Mr Mahama.

Mr. Mahama highlighted the recent trend in Ghanaian politics where the electorate has chosen to create a hung Parliament, where neither of the major parties holds a dominant position. He portrayed this as a significant shift reflecting the populace’s long-standing demand for a robust and independent legislative branch capable of effectively scrutinizing the executive. He underscored the importance of such oversight functions in ensuring good governance.

Regarding his policy agenda, Mr. Mahama pointed to the widespread support for his proposed 24-hour economy policy and other policy initiatives aimed at improving living standards and revitalizing the economy. He emphasized that these measures were designed to benefit all citizens, not just a privileged few.

On the issue of the Ghana Card and its potential impact on elections, Mr. Mahama cautioned the Electoral Commission against disenfranchising sections of the population through a rigid insistence on its use as the sole means of identification for voter registration. He criticized the politicization of the Ghana Card and advocated for a more inclusive approach, allowing adequate time for its integration into the lives of Ghanaians.

Mr. Mahama concluded by expressing his concern over what he described as the current government’s poor performance, labeling it as arguably the worst in Ghana’s history under the leadership of Akufo-Addo/Bawumia.

“They have been so bad; their own poster boy is attempting an inexplicable and contriving separation between himself and happenings in the very government he was touted as the brain behind, for purely electoral purposes,” observed Mr Mahama.

Mr. Mahama criticized the NPP government’s handling of the economy, highlighting that they inherited a stable economic situation following a period of temporary challenges. However, he lamented that the NPP had mismanaged the economy to the point where recovery seemed impossible without inflicting significant hardship on the populace.

  • Mahama has nothing to offer as compared to Bawumia – Nana Akomea

Mahama has nothing to offer as compared to Bawumia – Nana Akomea

The Chief Executive Officer of the State Transport Corporation (STC), Nana Akomea, expressed confidence that Ghanaians would have no regrets in keeping the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in power, especially with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the president.

This assurance comes in the aftermath of the Bawumia Speak conference, where the NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, unveiled his visions for the country on February 7, 2024, with a focus on the 2025 leadership.

Nana Akomea, speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show, ‘Ghana Montie,’ conveyed his optimism about Dr. Bawumia’s ideologies presented in his ‘Bold Solution’ address, emphasizing the potential for reshaping Ghana under the NPP’s leadership.

In comparing Dr. Bawumia to former president Mahama, Nana Akomea asserted that such a comparison would be inappropriate. He highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s fresh perspectives and innovative ideas, contrasting them with what he described as the lack of concrete policies from Mahama in his bid for the presidency once again.

“Bawumia is new and brings new ideas, Mahama is a former president and has nothing to offer,” he said.

  • Bawumia, Mahama, Bagbin, others spotted at ‘Kuntunkuni’ durbar of Chiefs

Bawumia, Mahama, Bagbin, others spotted at ‘Kuntunkuni’ durbar of Chiefs

Marking the 150th Anniversary of the Sagrenti War between the Asantes and the British Colonial Army in 1874, a grand durbar of chiefs convened in Asanteman on Thursday, February 8th.

Named “Kuntunkuni,” the commemorative durbar carried a distinctive tone, with the Asantehene and select traditional rulers clad in all-black attire, symbolizing the gravity of the historical event.

Distinguished political figures, including the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama; the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; and the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, graced the occasion.

Paramount chiefs, sub-divisional chiefs, and queen mothers from the Ashanti Kingdom added to the significance of the event, creating a gathering of cultural and political prominence.

Social media shared visuals of the durbar, capturing the vibrant display of Akan tradition and cultural heritage showcased during the event.

The arrival of Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, marked a pinnacle moment, bringing the durbar to a temporary standstill. His regal entrance, on a palanquin amidst spirited singing, drumming, and dancing, captivated the audience.

Edwesohemaa, Nana Yaa Asantewaa II, added to the spectacle with her entrance, arriving in a palanquin and firing into the sky.

The presence of the executioners of Asanteman (abrafoɔ) in their ancestral garb, one holding a decapitated fowl in a symbolic gesture, contributed to the visual richness of the event.

Notably, the durbar featured the formal presentation of Ashanti artifacts, including a royal stool belonging to Asantehene Kofi Karikari, the 10th Asantehene.

This presentation underscored the historical and cultural significance of the occasion, further cementing the link between past and present in the Ashanti Kingdom.

  • Mahama comes no where close to Bawumia – Joe Wise

Mahama comes no where close to Bawumia – Joe Wise

The Member of Parliament for the Bekwai constituency in the Ashanti Region under the New Patriotic Party, Joe Osei-Owusu, has asserted that the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, would consistently outshine the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) flagbearer for the 2024 election, John Dramani Mahama, in any direct comparison.

The NDC has consistently targeted the Vice President, criticizing him for the economic challenges in Ghana, alleging that he presented himself as an economic savior during his time in opposition and directed numerous jabs at the NDC and its leader.

The NDC specifically highlighted the escalating public debt, struggles of the Ghanaian cedi against major international currencies, and high inflation as indicators of the Vice President’s perceived incompetence.

They argued that his harsh criticism of similar issues during his opposition days has exposed his inadequacy.

In his role as the head of the government’s economic management team, the Vice President has not been exempt from blame for the failures of the NPP government.

However, speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Monday, November 13, the First Deputy Speaker expressed confidence that Dr. Bawumia stands a brighter chance against the former President.

“Let’s not create the impression that the current government hasn’t done anything positive. I don’t subscribe to that. There have been shortcomings and difficulties on different fronts, it’s a fact, and that’s a reality that we face. And he [Bawumia] as a Vice President, would have to carry some of that.”

Responding to the host’s query about Dr. Bawumia’s chances in the 2024 polls, he stated, “Very bright.”

He emphasized that although some people may vote based on party and its symbol, an evaluation considering their independent roles in the past would favor Dr. Bawumia when placed against Mahama.

The assessment would consider their past actions, ideas, implementation efforts, and their quality of person and integrity.

In a recent interview on Joy, former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyapong downplayed attempts to attribute the challenges of the incumbent NPP administration largely to the Vice President and now flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Mr Agyapong suggested that comparing Bawumia, who has not been a President, to John Mahama, who has served as both Vice President and President, would not be fair.

He stressed that the Vice President does not bear ultimate responsibility, and there have been areas where the government can be proud and others that need improvement.

Mr Agyapong emphasized that Dr. Bawumia’s ability to implement a transformative vision would be the key differentiator.

  • Mahama was Chair of Economic Management Team in Mills’ govt – Document reveals

Mahama was Chair of Economic Management Team in Mills’ govt – Document reveals

In recent times, the role of the government’s Economic Management Team (EMT) has been a focal point of discussion in light of Ghana’s current economic challenges, particularly under the leadership of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.

Dr Bawumia has been bashed for failing to live up to his promise to provide a progressive economy.

Traditionally, under the Fourth Republic, the vice president has been tasked with leading the EMT, which serves primarily as an advisory body to the president and is typically comprised of top economic and finance experts within the ruling party.

In the ongoing discourse between pro-government and opposition factions, there has been speculation regarding whether former Vice President John Mahama was ever appointed as the head of the EMT during his tenure under the late President John Evans Atta Mills.

This question appears to have been resolved with the circulation of a letter dated November 23, 2010, which indicates then Vice President John Mahama’s role on the team.

The letter, signed by the then Cabinet Secretary JK Berbaako-Mensah and copied to the Chief of Staff at the time, Henry Martey Newman, outlines the composition and responsibilities of the EMT.

It stipulates that the team, chaired by Mahama, was to convene at least once a month and included key figures such as the ministers of finance, energy, agriculture, trade and industry, as well as the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and other members of the government’s economic advisory board.

  • Bawumia’s speech made no sense – Sam George

Bawumia’s speech made no sense – Sam George

Ningo Prampram’s Member of Parliament, Sam Nartey George, has strongly criticized Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s recent lecture titled “Ghana’s Next Chapter: Selfless Leadership and Bold Solutions for the Future.”

Describing the speech as “73 pages of beautiful nonsense,” Sam George expressed dissatisfaction with the content presented by Dr. Bawumia, accusing him of recycling old promises and falsehoods, particularly pointing out inconsistencies in job creation figures.

In an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb’s Nimatu Yakubu Atouyese, Sam George remarked, “It’s 73 pages of beautiful nonsense, there is nothing that makes sense in that speech. It is a rehashing of old promises, lies.”

He highlighted discrepancies in Bawumia‘s claims about job creation, citing conflicting figures provided over time and challenging the vice president’s credibility.

Referring to Bawumia’s suggestion that Ghanaians should make him a driver, Sam George criticized the attempt to distance himself from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s governance, asserting that Bawumia cannot detach himself from Akufo-Addo’s perceived governance challenges.

“Bawumia cannot detach himself from Akufo-Addo’s bad governance and implementation of policies,” he asserted.

“Two people who are cabinet members at the time came to tell us Bawumia played a pivotal role in the creation of E-Levy, yet Bawumia stands up here today and say he wants to scrap E-Levy,” he stated, stressing that what he sees is inconsistency in Bawumia’s statements.

“Even if you look at the budget. the appendixes, you realise that the government says in 2024 they are going to pay 826,000 people, so it tells you that Bawumia is lying and this is unbecoming of someone who wants to be president,” Sam George remarked.

Citing Bawumia’s biography where he claimed to chair the Economic Management Team, Sam George pointed out what he saw as inconsistency in Bawumia’s statements, particularly regarding the creation of the E-Levy, which he alleged Bawumia played a pivotal role in developing.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s speech, delivered on February 7, 2024, outlined his vision for Ghana and highlighted the achievements of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government over the past seven years.

The lecture, covering various economic sectors, sparked significant discussions on social media platforms.

Regarding Dr. Bawumia’s suggestion that Ghanaians should make him a driver as he is currently a driver’s mate, Sam George criticized Bawumia’s attempt to distance himself from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s governance.

  • Bawumia should forget 2024 elections and go eat kenkey with Samira – Trader

Bawumia should forget 2024 elections and go eat kenkey with Samira – Trader

A male Ghanaian trader has expressed his dissatisfaction with Vice President Bawumia and believes that he should not run for reelection in 2024.

He made the comment after the Vice President’s recent address to the nation. The Vice President revealed his vision to ensure a cashless economy and ensure fiscal discipline among others, but the trader holds the assertion that the Vice President and NPP flagbearer is incapable of handling the economy.

He therefore Dr Bawumia to focus on his personal life rather than pursuing political ambitions.

“Bawumia should forget about the 2024 elections and go enjoy kenkey with Samira,” he remarked bitterly during an interview. “No one in the Greater Accra Region will vote for him. He should focus on his personal life instead.”

Reflecting on past years, he contrasted the affordability of life during Mahama’s tenure with the current economic challenges.

“I remember buying kenkey for just 2 cedis and fish for 3 cedis under Mahama’s leadership,” he recalled wistfully. “But now, even 25 cedis doesn’t stretch far enough.”

Despite facing personal struggles as a married father of three, the trader expressed unwavering support for Mahama, citing his dedication and resilience in the face of adversity.

“Mahama worked tirelessly for three years, even amidst legal battles,” he affirmed. “I will vote for him because of his proven commitment to our country.”

Turning his attention back to Bawumia, he voiced his frustration with the Vice President’s perceived lack of accountability.

“Where does Bawumia come from?” he questioned with a hint of disdain. “I call him Bawudonothing or Bawuliar. How can he claim Akufo-Addo did nothing, yet promise to fix it? It’s nothing but a lie.”

Meanwhile, Political Risk Analyst, Dr. Theo Acheampong, has suggested that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) being led by former President John Dramani Mahama will garner significant backing from swing voters during the 2024 elections.

In a post on X, Monday, February 5, Dr Acheamong noted that this assertion is not derived from a scientific approach but rather a hunch.

He explained that the NDC will beat the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Accra due to the high cost of living in the country’s capital, as well as corruption.

He wrote, “Swing voters in Greater Accra favouring Former President Mahama and the NDC; my hunch [unscientific opinion] is that the NDC will most likely win the Greater Accra region on account of recent economic issues [inflation & cost of living; DDEP, corruption perceptions, etc.].”

“There have been some economic improvements in recent months, and this is likely to be sustained in 2024 and beyond. However, I do wonder if this will be enough to change the minds of swing voters,” he added.

Since 2021, the prices of goods and services have been record-high. From over 50 percent inflation rate, Ghana is currently working a little over 20 percent.

With regards to corruption, reports indicate that the government has for the past four years, not done much to address the menace.

In the 2020 presidential elections, John Mahama, secured majority of the votes; 1,326,596, representing 51.04% while President Akufo-Addo polled 1,250,174 votes, representing 48.10%.

  • Jack Toronto and all his small brothers in cabinet caused Ghana’s economic mess – Mahama

Jack Toronto and all his small brothers in cabinet caused Ghana’s economic mess – Mahama

Former President John Mahama asserts that none of the members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) can evade responsibility for Ghana’s current economic difficulties.

He claims that those who played a role in creating the nation’s current predicament are now attempting to disassociate themselves from the situation.

Addressing attendees at a town hall meeting in Tamale as part of his “Building Ghana Tour” on Thursday, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer noted that some individuals are now asserting they lacked the authority to enact solutions to the economic challenges.

“All of them they inside, Jack Toronto and all his small brothers are part of the mess that we are going through.

“None of them can escape responsibility, none of them because they have all been a part of this. They all sat in cabinet together, they all took those decisions together. Anytime they were going to borrow from the Eurobond market, they approved it in cabinet.

“They sat in cabinet and approved it. In six years, you went and borrowed 13.5 billion dollars and you did nothing with it so today, you can’t come and tell us you are not part of it,” he said.

Mr. Mahama emphasized that every member of the NPP bears responsibility for Ghana’s economic challenges, and the populace will hold them answerable for the adversity and debts accumulated.

He pledged that should the NDC win the forthcoming 2024 general elections, the subsequent administration would endeavor to reverse the economic trajectory and implement measures to improve the situation.

“They must go home and learn their lessons. NDC is coming back by winning this election and we have the men and women that are going to restore this country’s economy and finances to a healthy condition,” he said.

The NDC flagbearer for the 2024 elections emphasised that the NPP administration inherited a thriving economy and criticised Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumiah for attempting to avoid responsibility for his role in the mismanagement of the economy.

“You inherited an economy that was doing well; it is you, by your mismanagement, your clueless Finance Minister, and your clueless head of the Economic Management Team who now want to run away from economic issues to become the champion of digitalisation; it is they who have created this mess,” Mr Mahama stressed.

He refuted the NPP’s claim that the country is turning the corner, stating that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has declared Ghana’s debt as unsustainable and in a distress situation.

“The good thing that our friends in the NPP have is that they know how to talk, they are very good talkers, they are good at sowing propaganda and they believe that at any time they can talk and convince the good people of Ghana.

“But we are wiser now, all the things they did, the promises they made, they have not kept even one of them,” he said.

  • You are treading on a suicidal path for aiming to rename public universities – Kweku Baako to Mahama

Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, has raised concerns about the advisability of former President John Dramani Mahama’s pledge to revert the names of certain public universities renamed during the Akufo-Addo administration.

During the February 7, 2024, edition of Kokrokoo on Peace FM, Baako expressed skepticism about the quality of advice influencing Mahama’s campaign promises, cautioning that such commitments might lead to negative consequences.

“It might even be suicidal for you the person advocating such a thing in terms of the area, what they are perceived as. So, maybe there isn’t quality advice going into some of these campaign promises,” he stated.

“It can impact on election outcomes. This is not an issue you put on the front burner and charge people’s emotions on. It could easily backfire,” he stated.

He stressed that ill-considered promises could significantly impact the electoral prospects of the opposition leader, prompting his inquiry into the quality of advice and careful consideration given to such assurances.

“And so we will restore the original names, and the names that they have given them, will be given to a significant infrastructure in the Universities.

“We will add other people and name the infrastructure in the Universities after them. But if the University is University for Development Studies, that is its core mandate. It will be called the University for Development Studies,” he stated.

Recently, John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), announced his party’s intention to restore the original names of public universities if the NDC assumes office in 2025. Mahama accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of simply renaming universities constructed by the NDC and emphasized the alleged absence of new universities established during the NPP’s tenure.

Mahama and Bawumia must debate to prove who is incompetent – Wontumi

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, has proposed a debate between Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and former President John Mahama.

Mr. Boasiako believes this debate will settle the question of incompetence between the two statesmen, as they will be required to provide evidence of their work. Chairman Wontumi has expressed his willingness to host the debate on one of his media platforms.

“I own Wontumi TV in Kumasi. I own Movement TV in Accra. I own Western Diamond in Takoradi. I can’t wait for the day all these precious media will call for one-on-one interview with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and John Dramani Mahama for debate and for everybody to listen to them on what you have done and what you want to do. It is not about talking. It is too cheap,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia has repeatedly criticized Mr. Mahama as incompetent, highlighting that despite three decades in active politics, the former president and NDC flagbearer lacks tangible policies for transforming the country.

On the other side of the political spectrum, Stan Dogbe, a former presidential staffer during John Mahama’s administration, contends that Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia’s perceived competence has dwindled. Dogbe asserts that the Vice President is “simply not fit for purpose.”

The upcoming 2024 presidential race will see Vice President Dr. Bawumia and former President Mahama compete head-to-head, setting the stage for a highly anticipated showdown.

Leave NAM1 alone, you are also corrupt – Blakk Rasta jabs Mahama

Renowned radio personality and musician, Blakk Rasta, has voiced strong criticism against former President John Dramani Mahama.

He has demanded that the ex-president addresses alleged corruption that occurred within his administration.

In a recent broadcast, Blakk Rasta voiced dissatisfaction with Mahama’s commitment to recover funds that NAM1, the embattled businessman, unlawfully took from individuals.

NAM1 and his companies, Menzgold Ghana Limited and Brew Marketing Consult Ghana Limited, face charges of defrauding by false pretences, inducing public investment, and money laundering.

Blakk Rasta emphasized the need for Mahama to address concerns about the misallocation of funds during his tenure, stating, “Chase all the corrupt people you spent corrupt money on. You should be investigated.”

“Chase all the corrupt people you spent corrupt money on. You should be investigated. You are investigating a young man who is trying to put his life together. NAM1 started in your regime, was in your regime and made things happen.

Rasta accused the former president of initiating an investigation into a young man, NAM1, who is endeavoring to rebuild his life.

The radio personality pointed out that NAM1’s business endeavors commenced during Mahama’s regime, suggesting a lack of scrutiny at the time.

Blakk Rasta alleged that it was only when subsequent administrations took charge that NAM1 encountered significant challenges, leading to the confiscation of his assets by the State.

“You didn’t see anything wrong with it until the old men came into power and messed up the man’s business. Now you have the mouth to say that if I come into power I will chase NAM1 and get all the money. Who is NAM1 to be walking free? Don’t do that, you are not being smart when you say that.

Furthermore, Blakk Rasta called on Mahama to address other unresolved issues, such as the infamous ‘Guinea fowls’ that supposedly migrated to Burkina Faso during Mahama’s presidency.

“Mahama please chase the Guinea fowls that flew to Burkina Faso, Mr ex-president chase RL&G that you gave so much money to and issue came out of that. Mr ex-president chases all the slay queens who are mentioning your names all over the place,” he added.

Additionally, he urged the ex-president to investigate the financial dealings with RL&G, a matter that stirred controversy during Mahama’s term.

Blakk Rasta didn’t shy away from addressing Mahama’s association with individuals he referred to as “slay queens” who have been vocal about their ties with the former president.

He encouraged Mahama to address these allegations and take appropriate action. Blakk Rasta also cautioned Mahama against making promises to pursue legal action against NAM1, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive and unbiased investigation into allegations of corruption during Mahama’s tenure.

Collapsed cotton industry will be revived under my administration – Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama has made a commitment to resurrect the cotton industry in Northern Ghana to bolster job creation for the youth if elected president in the 2024 election.

Recognizing the industry’s transformative potential for the economy, Mahama emphasized that a government led by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would prioritize investments in the sector to enhance the viability and commercial appeal of cotton production.

Furthermore, Mahama outlined plans to provide support to farmers to ensure the production of high-quality cotton.

“Cotton is the easiest cash crop to cultivate because it doesn’t like much rains and also doesn’t affect other crops cultivation. With a deliberate investment, the cotton industry which has now virtually collapsed will be revitalised to boost the economy,” he noted.

Mr. Mahama delivered this statement during a town hall meeting held in Tamale on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, as part of his three-day ‘Building Ghana Tour’ of the Northern Region.

The gathering attracted various professional groups, including dressmakers, barbers, butchers, teachers, and others. These individuals had the opportunity to voice their concerns and present their grievances to the NDC’s flagbearer, outlining their expectations for remedial action should he emerge victorious in the December election.

Akufo-Addo’s economic team responsible for Ghana’s problems – Mahama

The 2024 flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has once again criticized the state of Ghana’s economy under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Mahama asserted that President Akufo-Addo did not inherit a problematic situation, attributing the current challenges to what he described as the “clueless economic management team and finance minister” of the current administration.

Encouraging Ghanaians to vote against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming December general elections, Mahama highlighted the achievements of his administration before the NPP took office in 2016.

Expressing disappointment that the Akufo-Addo-led administration continued to blame his previous government for their failures, Mahama defended his term, stating that the state of the economy during his leadership was far better than the current situation under the Nana Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration.

Mahama stated, “You didn’t inherit a mess; it is your clueless economic management team and finance minister that created the mess we are experiencing today.”

Emphasizing his economic successes, Mahama positioned himself as the most qualified candidate for leading the nation after the December general elections.

He urged Ghanaians to reject what he considers the NPP’s rhetoric, emphasizing that the country has not made substantial progress as recently portrayed.

Mahama has been truthful in the past, allow him transform ‘poor’ Ghana – NDC to electorates

General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has called upon the people of northern Ghana to place their trust in John Mahama during the upcoming 2024 elections.

He emphasized that individuals with small businesses cannot rely on the Nana Addo-Bawumia government, as they are likely to impose burdensome taxes that could harm their enterprises.

Mr. Kwetey urged voters to make informed decisions during the December polls, prioritizing candidates who genuinely prioritize their welfare, regardless of their geographical location.

“Northern region, you have produced a person that we can be proud of, a genuine son of the region, a genuine son of Ghana. He tells the truth. When he speaks, don’t you trust him? Yes, you can trust him. He told Ghana that even though dumsor was not caused by me, I will fix dumsor. And what did he do? He fixed it. So you can commit your business into his hands because he is a man that can be trusted. You can commit your farms into his hands; he is a man that can be trusted. You can commit Ghana and the resources of Ghana and the destiny of 30 million plus Ghanaians into his hands because he can be trusted.”

“The same cannot be said of the other son that came from your region. That other son that comes from the Northeastern part of this region of yours cannot be trusted. So you have produced two sons, one can be trusted, the other one you cannot even give your small business into his hands. Comrades, you owe it to Ghana to ensure that the son who can be trusted rises again to the leadership of this country.”

He made these remarks in Tamale, during the second day of the NDC flag-bearer’s ‘Building Ghana Tour’ of the Northern Region, encouraging party members to take pride in their association with the NDC.
