Provide solutions, don’t just talk about the problems – Miracles Aboagye to Mahama

Presidential Staffer Dennis Miracles Aboagye has urged former President John Dramani Mahama to not only discuss the challenges facing the country but also propose solutions that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) can adopt to address them.

Mr Aboagye expressed the view that it is unfair for the opposition National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) flagbearer to focus solely on highlighting problems without offering potential solutions.

In an interview on the Pulse on JoyNews, he said “It is very easy for the former President to just recount the obvious challenges and difficulties. That is very easy. What he fails to do is to give a clear indication as to what is being done to resolve this challenge that is part of the global economic difficulties that all other countries are going through. And how he believes he has a superior alternative to what we are trying to put in place to resolve some of these things.”

Miracles Aboagye made these comments in response to former President John Dramani Mahama’s assertion that the Akufo-Addo administration is leading Ghana into economic turmoil.

Mr Mahama criticized the decision to discard the 40-year National Development Plan, suggesting it has contributed to the country’s current challenges. Aboagye countered, stating that difficulties are not unique to Ghana and are experienced by countries worldwide.

“If he acknowledges the primary cause of this challenge, we can all work together to be able to resolve some of these things, it is not enough for him to just recount. It is important for you to tell us how you believe you have a superior alternative to what is being put in place to resolve this once and for all,” he said.

Miracles Aboagye emphasized that there has been an improvement in Ghana’s economic situation. He pointed out that the challenges faced in 2023 were different from those encountered in the latter part of 2022.

Mr Aboagye justified the claim with the assertion that “We had seen some improvement from where we were in 2022 and today that is why you see some stability in terms of our cedi against the dollar since January till now unlike what we experienced between March 2022 and December 2022. Today the dollar that went all the way to about GH₵17 somewhere in November 2022 is around GH₵12 in 2023. That shows an improvement from where we were.”

Again, he added that the prices of fuel and goods went high at the end of 2022. However, there has been a decline in 2023 because of policies the government has put in place, like the gold for oil deal.

  • Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy endorsed by Drivers unions

Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy endorsed by Drivers unions

The Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana has expressed support for John Dramani Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy, believing it will have positive implications for commercial drivers.

According to the association’s leadership, the policy is expected to generate a steady stream of passengers for commercial drivers as essential services operate continuously.

This shift towards continuous operation is anticipated to provide drivers with more business opportunities throughout both day and night, mirroring practices seen in Europe and the Americas.

The endorsement reflects the belief that the 24-hour economy could transform the commercial driving landscape and make night driving more lucrative.

The driver unions, including the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the True Drivers Union, are supportive of John Dramani Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy, emphasizing its potential to create substantial employment opportunities, especially for the youth.

They believe that the policy, if implemented, could contribute significantly to Ghana’s economic growth by increasing economic activity.

The unions are calling for broad support for the policy, urging all political parties and individuals to avoid discrediting it.

“We have followed with keenly a statement made by NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama on the 24-hour economic policy and we give it one hundred percent support. We are sure that when this policy is implemented commercial centres such as markets, harbours and other commercial centres will run day and night shifts.

“As drivers, we will be provided with passengers since essential services will be available 24 hours. As drivers, we don’t make any sales and burn our fuel working at night and this policy will be the game changer since it will push our business higher,” Asonaba Nana Wiredu, Deputy Secretary of the group said.

The introduction of a 24-hour economy is expected to allow commercial drivers to work around the clock, aligning with practices in other regions like Europe and the Americas.

  • Present a detailed implementation plan for 24-hour economy policy – ISSER to Mahama

Present a detailed implementation plan for 24-hour economy policy – ISSER to Mahama

Dr. Peter Quartey, the Director of the Institute of Statistical, Social, and Economic Research (ISSER), has called on former President Mahama to present a detailed implementation plan of the 24-hour economy policy to ensure its effectiveness.

He made the call in an interview on Joy FM’s Midday News despite expressing optimism about the potential of the 24-hour economy policy in addressing the economic challenges in the country.

“I think what we need is a detailed implementation plan of the policy. A document that is going to cover it,” he said.

He acknowledged that while elements of a 24-hour economy are already present in certain sectors, the key lies in implementing a detailed plan for the policy. Mr Quartey emphasized the need for careful consideration and planning for effective execution.

“If you go to the health sector, the police, transport, among others operate in the 24-hour economy. The chop bar operators around Circle and many other places are doing the same,” he said.

According to him, if this policy is to be extended to other sectors, then, “We need to develop a legal framework that has to develop our infrastructure.”

Former President John Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to implementing the 24-hour economy policy if re-elected. He emphasized that the proposal is well-thought-through and forms part of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s vision to build a transformed Ghana.

The 24-hour economy is envisioned as a means to create jobs, foster inclusivity, and develop resilient, prosperous communities while safeguarding the environment. Mahama outlined these goals as part of the broader vision for national development and Ghana’s role on the international stage.

“The 24-hour economy may have finally resonated with Ghanaians. It may be classified as an idea whose time has come due to Ghana’s self-inflicted economic crisis today because the 24-hour economy initiative was well thought-through and captured on page 105 of the NDC’s 2020 People’s Manifesto.”

Former President John Mahama has provided further details on how the 24-hour economy policy would address key challenges in Ghana.

He highlighted its crucial role in addressing a financial crisis, severe unemployment, and unprecedented levels of corruption, emphasizing the potential of the policy to contribute to the stability of Ghana’s democracy.

“Without an economic revamp, we cannot hope to make any mark in our massive unemployment crisis, which is leading many of our young people down the road of despair. Research shows that unemployment, unavailability of jobs, poverty, high cost and poor living conditions are issues of grave concern to many Ghanaians.

“I remain optimistic about the Mahama 24-hour economy initiative. In a rapidly advancing global economy, in which countries worldwide are gradually drifting and adopting 24-hour economies to remain competitive and attract investments – Ghana cannot be left out.”

  • Banking sector clean-up leaves thousands jobless and poor – Mahama

Banking sector clean-up leaves thousands jobless and poor – Mahama

Thousands of skilled financial sector workers are now unemployed and facing poverty due to the government’s banking sector clean-up, according to former President John Mahama.

He made these remarks during the 9th Ghana CEO Network Business Cocktail on Thursday, December 7, 2023, emphasizing that the 24-hour economy is a crucial factor for the Ghanaian economy.

According to him, experiences from Ghana defy all the models and theories taught in Business Schools – because “if you have survived this economy since 2018, then you are a successful global case study.”

“Like my first participation, I have enjoyed your warm friendship and insightful conversations and shared great ideas with many of you here tonight. Of course, my determination to transform Ghana’s economy into a 24-hour working economy featured prominently in the conversations.

“But I cannot help but repeat the point made by one of the CEOs, with deep regret written on his face, that “we want to pay every legitimate tax, BUT the needless harassment from GRA must stop. Back-dated tax audits, re-audits and assessments based on the whims of the taxman are killing businesses”, he lamented,” the former President narrated.

Mr. Mahama claims that a lot of businesses are still negatively impacted by the current economic crisis.

Contrary to the Finance Minister’s claim, he said, “we have not turned any corner, and 2024 will be a very challenging year.” This is why.

“Many have shut down their businesses, and hundreds of thousands of laid-off workers are still at home. Businesses that moved headquarters from Ghana to our neighbouring countries have yet to return. The poorly thought-through banking sector clean-up has left thousands of skilled financial sector workers, jobless and impoverished.

“As I speak, the second tranche of the IMF’s Extended Credit Facility, due on the first of November, has still not been received because of a delay by our external creditors to sign off on our debt restructuring programme. Of course, the consequences of our debt default have also started manifesting. For the first time in thirty years, Ghana struggled to assemble a cocoa-syndicated loan, which had almost become routine on our financial calendar. Major infrastructure projects have stopped because lenders have cut funding as a direct fallout from our debt default.”

  • We are now beggars and Akufo-Addo is to blame for it – Mahama

We are now beggars and Akufo-Addo is to blame for it – Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama has criticized the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led government for deviating from the 40-year national development plan and instead adopting the Ghana Beyond Aid agenda.

Mr Mahama asserts that this shift has turned Ghana into a “beggar nation” and argues that the Ghana Beyond Aid agenda has proven ineffective in achieving its intended objectives.

He expressed these views at the 9th Ghana CEO Network Business Cocktail.

“Unfortunately, the present government discarded the 40-year plan and replaced it with a Ghana Beyond Aid plan that has turned Ghana into a beggar nation,” he said.

In presenting an alternative solution, Former President John Dramani Mahama proposed the “24-hour economy” as a well-thought-out initiative.

“The 24-hour economy initiative was well-thought-through and captured on page 105 of the NDC’s 2020 People’s Manifesto. Indeed, its roots emanate from the 40-year National Development Plan, the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) put together when I was President,” he explained.

Mahama further said “Undoubtedly, the economic catastrophe we face is self-inflicted and caused by this government. However, for the sake of Ghanaians and the future of our dear country, we cannot allow the status quo to continue.”

The former president voiced apprehensions about the 2024 budget, contending that it introduces burdensome taxes that negatively impact businesses.

Despite these challenges, he maintains optimism and a commitment to implementing his 24-hour economic plan as a strategy to rejuvenate the economy, should he be elected as president.

  • Why 24-hour economy is a game-changer for the Ghanaian economy

Why 24-hour economy is a game-changer for the Ghanaian economy

Presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2024 general elections, John Dramani Mahama, has defended the party’s proposal to create a conducive environment for a 24-hour economy, asserting that it is a well-thought-through idea.

Mr Mahama, speaking at the 9th Ghana CEO Network Business Cocktail, reiterated that the idea is a game-changer due to careful consideration. He pledged that a potential NDC administration would actively pursue projects and programs to transition Ghana into a fully-fledged 24-hour economy by optimizing existing resources.

Mahama outlined that the 24-hour economy aligns with the NDC’s vision to build the desired Ghana, focusing on creating an industrialized, inclusive, and resilient economy with well-paying jobs. The vision also includes developing safe communities, protecting the natural environment, building effective institutions, and enhancing Ghana’s role in African and international affairs.

“The 24-hour economy may have finally resonated with Ghanaians. It may be classified as an idea whose time has come due to Ghana’s self-inflicted economic crisis today because the 24-hour economy initiative was well-thought-through and captured on page 105 of the NDC’s 2020 People’s Manifesto,” he said.

In providing a comprehensive explanation of the policy, Mr. Mahama emphasized its critical role in addressing three major challenges: a financial crisis, severe unemployment, and unprecedented levels of corruption.

He highlighted the policy’s significance in mitigating these issues, which pose threats to the stability of Ghana’s democracy.

In a rapidly advancing global economy, in which countries worldwide are gradually drifting and adopting 24-hour economies to remain competitive and attract investments – Ghana cannot be left out.

In the former President’s words, “the 24-hour economy is a game-changer for the Ghanaian economy.”

This, he says is because it “will benefit your businesses, employment and the enjoyment of the youth who are seeking jobs.”

“We shall vigorously pursue the 24-hour economy, amongst many other initiatives, as part of our broader vision and determination to increase economic growth, create jobs, and improve the quality of life of Ghanaians. We shall work with you to build the Ghana we want together,” he noted.

The former President also promised that a future NDC government would be committed to stringent enforcement of prudence and fiscal discipline in public financial management by cutting expenditure and “significantly reducing the number of overlapping agencies and amorphous creations of this NPP administration.”

According to him, “there is no substitute for prudent financial management.”

While the proposal has faced criticism from political opponents who argue it lacks novelty and transformative impact, some supporters view it as a positive initiative.

Presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2024 general elections, John Dramani Mahama, has defended the party’s proposal to create a conducive environment for a 24-hour economy, asserting that it is a well-thought-through idea.

While the proposal has faced criticism from political opponents who argue it lacks novelty and transformative impact, Mahama emphasized its potential as a game-changer for Ghana’s economy. Some supporters view it as a positive initiative, while opponents contend that certain sectors of the economy already operate 24 hours, and the country may lack the necessary infrastructure for an efficient 24-hour system.

Addressing the concerns, Mahama, speaking at the 9th Ghana CEO Network Business Cocktail, reiterated that the idea is a game-changer due to careful consideration. • Ghana’s economy still in trouble, you’ve not turned any corner – Mahama tells Finance Minister

Ghana’s economy still in trouble, you’ve not turned any corner – Mahama tells Finance Minister

Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has rejected Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s claims that Ghana is on the path to overcoming its economic challenges.

During the 9th Ghana CEO Network Business Cocktail, the former President argued that the current state of the economy contradicts the Finance Minister’s optimism.

In November, Ofori-Atta had expressed confidence, stating that the nation’s economy is gradually recovering and that the government has laid a strong foundation for future prosperity. However, addressing a gathering of business leaders and professionals, Mahama voiced concerns about the persistent economic difficulties faced by many businesses.

Mahama highlighted that, in his view, the country’s economy is in disarray, leading to widespread poverty among Ghanaians. Despite the Finance Minister’s positive outlook, Mahama emphasized the challenging economic conditions experienced by the people and businesses in Ghana.

“Many businesses still bear the brunt of the economic meltdown. This is because, contrary to the Finance Minister’s assertion, we have not turned any corner, and 2024 will be a very challenging year,” he said on Thursday.

The former President underscored a range of concerns during his address, pointing out issues such as business closures, layoffs, delays in international funding, and the repercussions of the country’s debt default.

In his critique, the opposition leader placed blame on the government for what he described as an economic catastrophe, attributing it to poorly executed policies.

He particularly highlighted the adverse effects on significant infrastructure projects, the energy sector, and the broader business environment. According to the flagbearer, these policy shortcomings have contributed to the challenging economic conditions faced by businesses and individuals in the country.

“As I speak, the second tranche of the IMF’s Extended Credit Facility, due on November 1, has still not been received because of a delay by our external creditors to sign off on our debt restructuring programme. Of course, the consequences of our debt default have also started manifesting.

“Major infrastructure projects have stopped because lenders have cut funding as a direct fallout from our debt default. Independent Power Producers continue to threaten power cuts due to mounting debts affecting their operations…Ghanaians face grave uncertainty if more of them follow suit,” he stated.

Addressing the recently approved budget, Mr. Mahama voiced criticism over the introduction of new taxes outlined in the 2024 budget. He expressed concern that these new tax measures, combined with elevated interest rates, would place a heavy burden on Ghanaian businesses, impeding their competitiveness.

The former President called for a shift in the current economic approach, asserting that the challenges faced by the country are a result of self-inflicted actions by the current government.

“As flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, I have put forth several proposals to ensure that the economy is returned to a stable footing, and that economic activity is expanded for job creation and growth,” Mahama stated.

He pledged to enforce fiscal discipline, cut government expenditure, and streamline agencies to enhance efficiency.

Transport operators rally behind Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy

On Thursday, December 7, 2023, during a press conference, representatives of transport operators voiced their support for the recently announced 24-hour economy policy by National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama.

Transport operators, including representatives from the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), expressed support for the 24-hour economy policy, deeming it a potential “game-changer” for Ghana’s economic landscape.

Paa Willie, spokesperson for the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana Drivers, emphasized the need for a well-implemented 24-hour economy, foreseeing enhanced operations in commercial centers and increased economic activity during night shifts.

The drivers highlighted challenges faced at night, asserting that the policy could alleviate hardships and boost their business.

In response to critics, the drivers cautioned political figures to consider the positive impact of the 24-hour economy on the nation’s economy.

They stressed the policy’s potential to create employment opportunities and improve overall comfort for drivers, especially during nighttime breakdowns.

The drivers urged all Ghanaians to embrace the policy as a catalyst for economic growth, expressing anticipation for its full implementation and its positive impact on the lives of drivers and citizens.

  • Stop promising to release illegal miners behind bars – Nana Akomea to Mahama

Stop promising to release illegal miners behind bars – Nana Akomea to Mahama

Managing Director of the State Transport Company (STC), Nana Akomea, has accused the former President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of contributing to the challenges faced in the fight against illegal small-scale mining (galamsey) in the country.

Nana Akomea contends that the promise made by Mr Mahama, who is the flagbearer of the NDC, and other proponents of his party to pardon illegal small-scale miners in the event of an NDC government is a significant factor hindering the efforts of the President Akufo-Addo government in combating galamsey.

He further states that Mahama’s promise is a strategic move to secure votes, and the data indicates that it was effective for the NDC in the galamsey-prone regions of the country during the 2020 election, as reported by 3news.com.

”Don’t go there and be telling the people that when they vote for [NDC] you will remove these people from jail to come and do galamsey, when you do that we will not win the fight against galamsey.

“All the governments that have come have fought galamsey but we all know the efforts have not yielded the results. We undermine our own fight when you have a party going to incite people against government telling them that ‘when you vote for you all those who have been arrested will be released,” he is quoted to have said in an interview on TV3’s New Day on December 5, 2023.

Akomea, a former MP and minister of state, added, “When you tell people this, you are undermining the fight, it is part of the reasons why we have failed”.

John Dramani Mahama, ahead of the December 7, 2020 elections, pledged to grant a general amnesty to individuals convicted for offenses related to small-scale mining if he were re-elected as president.

During an engagement with the chiefs and residents of Abesewa in the Ahafo Ano South East constituency on Tuesday, November 10, 2023, at the commencement of his five-day campaign tour of the Ashanti Region, Mahama reiterated his commitment to providing a second chance to those convicted for galamsey (small-scale mining) offenses.

The former president argued that individuals funding galamsey activities are often spared legal consequences, while the youth engaged by these financiers, seeking a means of livelihood, are the ones frequently apprehended and imprisoned.

He further stated that a future NDC (National Democratic Congress) government, under his leadership, would reassess the small-scale mining policy to bring regularization to the activities of illegal small-scale miners.

“Because of the fight against galamsey, some of the youth have been arrested. But with our new policy on small-scale mining when we come into power, we are going to start afresh.

“We know they have offended the law but I believe that these galamsey operators are remorseful so we will give them another chance,” he said.

Whether bad or not, we must pray for our leaders – John Mahama

Former President John Mahama has urged the church to persist in praying and interceding for the nation and its leaders.

He emphasized the importance of such prayers in helping the country navigate challenging times.

Speaking at Impact 2023, an event organized by the Action Faith International Church, the former President stated that intercessions are necessary to redirect the focus of the nation.

“It doesn’t matter who the leader is. It doesn’t matter whether you like the leader or not. Or whether the leader is bad or not, we must continue to pray for leaders because they do not exist in isolation, the church exists in a society.

“And we must pray especially for bad leaders because the damage they cause affects the church and its congregation. So just as we pray for good leaders, we should pray for bad leaders that God opens doors,” he said.

Despite the economic challenges confronting the country, Mr. Mahama, who also serves as the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2024 election, encouraged Ghanaians not to lose hope.

“We should never give up on our future. We should never give up on the future of this nation. I know that sometimes when things are tough, in despair we give up and throw our hands up in the air.

“And I believe that as it is said, ‘the darkest hour comes before the dawn’ of a new sunrise. When things are going badly at night and you despair that the sun will never rise again, just the hour before the sun rises is the darkest and that is what tests your faith. So let’s not give up,” he encouraged.

Mahama on ‘support tour’ for 2024 elections as he engages Dr Duffuor

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), former President John Mahama, has held a meeting with one of his main contenders for the position, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor.

During the meeting, they discussed the future of the party, as well as matters related to the upcoming 2024 elections.

“It was great meeting with Dr Kwabena Duffuor as we discussed the future of our party and the upcoming 2024 elections. It is important for us to come together and work towards unity and the growth of our party,” he posted on Facebook on Monday, December 4, 2023.

During the meeting, Mr. Mahama took the opportunity to encourage the members and supporters of the party to come together and unite in their efforts to regain power.

“Let’s focus on our common goals and aspirations to build the Ghana we want together,” he said.

Dr. Duffuor was initially considered the main challenger to Mr. Mahama in the lead-up to the NDC’s flagbearer race held in May 2023.

However, he withdrew from the race just 24 hours before the election, citing irregularities with the voters’ register.

Prior to this, he had filed an injunction application on the NDC primaries, but later had the application withdrawn by his legal counsel.

  • Mahama retains Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as running mate for 2024 elections

Mahama retains Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as running mate for 2024 elections

Former President John Dramani Mahama has purportedly made the decision to retain Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate for the 2024 election.

The information was disclosed by a host of Adom TV’s morning show, Badwam Mpensenpensenmu, who claimed to have received the information from reliable sources close to Mahama.

The host, who interrupted the programme to announce the breaking news, said: “Listen and listen well, the breaking news coming in is that His Excellency John Dramani Mahama has nominated Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang. He has settled on the woman that she will be his running mate for the 2024 election. What I am telling you is from conversations had from the office, from the house, from the bedroom, from the car of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. It is that, he has settled on Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang. In the next few days to come, he will introduce her as his running mate to the NDC.”

This piece of information was also shared on a pro-National Democratic Congress (NDC) Twitter page, @AnnanPerry. The tweet mentioned that the information is yet to be officially confirmed by the flagbearer and the party.

Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, if confirmed, will be making a return as Mahama’s running mate, a position she held in the past. She was the first female running mate of a major political party in Ghana when Mahama selected her as his partner for the 2020 election.

With an impressive political portfolio, Professor Opoku Agyemang has served in various capacities, contributing significantly to the educational sector.

Prof Opoku-Agyemang is a former Minister for Education and a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast. She is a full professor of literature and a distinguished scholar.

She is widely respected for her achievements in the education sector and her contributions to the development of the country. She is also known for her calm and composed demeanour and her eloquence in public speaking. She has received several awards and honours, both locally and internationally, for her academic and professional excellence.

The choice, if proven could mean that the former president is confident in Prof Opoku-Agyemang abilities and believes that she can help him win back power from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). It also implies that Mahama is committed to promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment in the political sphere.

Meanwhile, the NPP’s flagbearer, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, is yet to announce his running mate for the 2024 election. There are speculations that he may choose a candidate from the Ashanti region, which is considered a stronghold of the NPP.

Some of the names that have been mentioned as potential candidates include Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Minister of Energy, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Minister of Communications, and Frema Osei Opare, the Chief of Staff.

The selection of the running mates for both Mahama and Bawumia will have a significant impact on the outcome of the 2024 election, which is expected to be a keenly contested one.

The running mates will have to demonstrate their competence, charisma, and vision to the electorate and complement their flagbearers in their campaign strategies.

The 2024 election will also be a historic one, as it will be the first time that two former vice presidents will face each other in a presidential race.

  • Next NDC govt will prioritise your welfare – Mahama promises farmers

Next NDC govt will prioritise your welfare – Mahama promises farmers

Former President John Dramani Mahama has vowed that farmers across the country will have their needs met and concerns addressed in his next administration.

According to the 2024 NDC flagbearer, he will “prioritise their welfare and work tirelessly to ensure they have the necessary resources and support to thrive.”

He continued: “Our farmers are the backbone of our economy, and we will continue to invest in their success.”

Mr Mahama made this known today as the country commemorates farmers for their efforts in ensuring food security in the country.

As part of his message shared on his Facebook wall, he encouraged farmers across the country to take a leap of faith and ready themselves to jump onto the NDC’s 24-hour economy programme that would change the agriculture industry for the better.

The former President noted that there is the need for smart solutions within a 24-hour economy to ensure sustainable food security for the nation.

FULL TEXT: Mahama’s message to farmers nationwide

Today, we celebrate Ghana’s hardworking and dedicated farmers and fishers on National Farmers’ Day 2023.

This day is dedicated to recognising the efforts of our farmers in ensuring food security and contributing to our economy.

This year’s theme, “Delivering Smart Solutions for Sustainable Food Security and Resilience,” highlights the importance of innovation and resilience in agriculture.

As we celebrate our farmers today, we must acknowledge the need for smart solutions within a 24-hour economy to ensure sustainable food security for our nation.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is dedicated to bringing back the joy of farming and revolutionising the agricultural sector. We aim to achieve food self-sufficiency through a policy that supports large-scale commercial agricultural production.

This will be propelled by a robust cooperative system that will benefit from Farmers Service Centres established nationwide to drive access to agricultural credit and inputs.

We will introduce agro-processing units in all regions to add value to our agricultural products and create more opportunities for all farmers. Establishing agricultural processing plants will target crops such as palm, cashew, groundnuts, cotton, coffee, cocoa, soya, cassava, shea nuts, cereals, ginger, spices, cut flowers, fruits and horticultural products.

On this occasion, I want to assure our farmers that the next NDC government will prioritise their welfare and work tirelessly to ensure they have the necessary resources and support to thrive. Our farmers are the backbone of our economy, and we will continue to invest in their success.

I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all Ghanaian farmers on this special day.

Thank you for feeding our nation.

    Happy National Farmers’ Day!

Kojo Bonsu reportedly part of running mate list being considered by Mahama

It is reported that National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama, is considering picking Mr. Kojo Bonsu as his running mate for the forthcoming national general elections scheduled for next year.

According to a well-placed report at the party’s head office, his selection has received massive endorsement from the party’s leadership.

The leadership believes his rich experience as the former Mayor of Kumasi, Ghana’s second-biggest city, is a plus for the party, where it has proven a stronghold for the opposition NPP.

A party faithful who spoke on anonymity condition, per reports, said “This is good for us, the pair is perfect. During his tenure as Kumasi Mayor, he discharged his duty with utter professionalism. He scored full marks, and his legacy is there for all of us to see. The forthcoming elections will be keenly contested, and we need someone like Kojo to ensure we recapture the seat for our great party.”

During his tenure as the National Sports Authority (NSA) boss under the Professor Atta-Mills regime, Kojo Bonsu succeeded in bringing about significant changes in the sports fraternity.

His rich managerial expertise was evident in the day-to-day running of GOIL, where he served as the board chairman. As a Board Member and Managing Director of GOIL, he played a crucial role in the company’s re-branding, transforming it into the largest Oil Marketing Company (OMC) in Ghana. Kojo Bonsu’s business acumen and influence have been instrumental in GOIL’s success.

He is also remembered for his contributions to the football community, particularly for ensuring that kits for teams in the country met high-quality standards during his tenure as the Adidas representative for West Africa.

My two sons are single – Mahama reveals

Former President and New Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has announced that his two sons, Sharaf and Shahid Mahama, are currently single.

He shared this personal note during a visit to the Shai-Osudoku District Hospital on his 65th birthday, Wednesday, November 29th, 2023. He

Accompanied by his wife and three children, Mahama took the opportunity to make charitable donations to the hospital and extend a courtesy visit to both the staff and patients.

In his address to the hospital personnel and supporters present, Mahama expressed gratitude to his wife and children for their enduring love and support over the years.

In a light-hearted moment, he playfully mentioned his sons by name and humorously disclosed their current relationship statuses.

“Sharaf Mahama is here, Shahid Mahama is here too, and then Farida (the baby of the family) is also here. So I want to thank you again, and for those who want to know, he’s single (points to Sharaf), he’s single (points to Shahid),” he said.

Video: Agric minister booed in the Central Region for undermining Mahama’s 24-hour economy

Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong faced boos from the audience over the weekend as he sought to undermine former President John Dramani Mahama’s proposal for a 24-hour economy.

While acknowledging the merit of the proposal at an event in the Central Region, Acheampong contended that Mahama, due to the electricity challenges encountered during his presidency, was not the suitable individual to put forth such an initiative.

His remarks were met with disapproval from some members of the audience.

“The 24-hour economy is good news, but even in the 8-hour economy, he (Mahama) was unable to keep the lights on… the 8-hour economy he failed at and bequeathed to us, is it 24 hours that he can manage?” Acheampong asked.

Then there were boos from some parts of the crowd, and some people started chanting “away, away.”

Despite the jeers, the minister—who also happens to be the Abetifi Member of Parliament—maintained his position.

Agribusiness minister jeered for undermining the idea of a 24-hour economy.

The 2024 NDC flagbearer, Mahama, recently suggested a 24-hour economy, claiming it would help create jobs and spur economic growth, particularly for young people.

The leader of the New Patriotic Party and his greatest opponent in the 2024 presidential contest, Dr. Bawumia, has countered that the policy is unimaginative.

“This is one idea that John Mahama thinks that he has brought, it is a bad idea, it is an idea that hasn’t been thought through so I want you to compare me to John Mahama, who has the ideas to transform this economy.

“The track record of John Mahama doesn’t show innovative thinking, it doesn’t show ideas, the track record of Dr Bawumia is idea after idea. I have my own priorities and I have my own vision, when I become president I will bring more ideas and you will hear them very soon,” Dr Bawumia stated a recent campaign stop in the Northern Region.

Our wives could be snatched from us due to 24-hour economy – Stephen Yakubu

Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu, argues that many husbands will be prevented from executing their marital responsibilities to their wives should the 24-hour economy suggested by former President John Mahama be implemented.

A 24-hour economy, also known as a 24/7 economy, refers to an economic system where businesses and services operate around the clock, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

In a 24-hour economy, the traditional working hours of 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday, are extended, allowing businesses to operate continuously without closing during the night or on weekends.

Former President Mahama is yet to present a framework for this policy but already, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and other New Patriotic Party (NPP) members have shut down this policy.

Now according to Mr Yakubu, that husbands could risk losing their wives due to their absence as a result of the policy.

Engaging some NPP supporters, he said: “This 24-hour economy, my brothers, when we work in the farms and we are tired in the night, we have to sleep with our wives oh. We have to be with our wives. In the night, you want them to also be farming and people will come and take our wives away. We have to be careful about this 24-hour thing,” he said.

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has indicated that interested institutions who sign onto the 24-hour economy initiative will enjoy some tax incentives.

According to him, no institution will be compelled to participate.  The former President made this known at an engagement with students of the St. Joseph’s College of Education at Bechem as the ‘Building Ghana Tour’ kicked off in the Ahafo Region.

“It is not by force. When we come, we’ll open it. The initiative is available, any company that wants to work a shift system and work more than the eight hours that they normally work from eight o’clock to five o’clock, they will sign on. We will give them tax incentives because if you work the extra shift, you will be given tax breaks. Aside from that, you’ll be provided with security and everything that you need to be able to employ more people,” he said.

Meanwhile, the former president assures that a team of experts is working to finalise the policy document. On the issue, financial experts and political analysts such as Joe Jackson and Theo Acheampong say such a policy will augur well for the economy by helping creating more jobs.

Several countries around the world have aspects of a 24-hour economy, where certain services and businesses operate continuously, often beyond traditional working hours.

In major cities like New York City, Las Vegas, and parts of Los Angeles, businesses such as restaurants, convenience stores, and entertainment venues operate 24/7. Countries like Brazil, Japan, South Korea, United Kingdom and Singapore have all incorporated the 24-hour economy in some parts of its cities.

He adds that husbands would risk losing their wives due to them feeling abandoned.

Engaging some NPP supporters, he said: “This 24-hour economy, my brothers, when we work in the farms and we are tired in the night, we have to sleep with our wives oh. • Mahama’s vision to have Ghanaians working either day or night on rotation shift a good initiative – Theo Acheampong

Mahama’s vision to have Ghanaians working either day or night on rotation shift a good initiative – Theo Acheampong

Political Risk Analyst, Dr. Theo Acheampong, has praised the 24-hour economy concept proposed by former President and NDC presidential candidate for the 2024 election, John Dramani Mahama.

Dr. Acheampong believes that if effectively implemented, the policy could be instrumental in reducing unemployment in the country.

He emphasized that the 24-hour economy initiative has the potential to create job opportunities for more Ghanaians, thereby contributing to overall national development.

“The idea of a 24-hour economy is laudable and I make no exceptions or mince words about that. The devil of course is in the details and what exactly we want to attain by it.”

“But if you come from the fundamental premise that you want to create more jobs and expand the economic basket, then allowing more Ghanaians to work either during the day or at night on rotation shift is something that is laudable.”

During the start of his two-day tour in the Ahafo Region, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 Presidential Candidate, John Dramani Mahama, addressed skepticism surrounding his proposed 24-hour economy.

He highlighted that the initiative would offer tax incentives and other advantages to businesses that willingly participate in the program.

Mr Mahama emphasized that the primary objective is to create additional employment opportunities for the people of Ghana.

“I envision a 24-hour economy where hospital facilities, fuel stations, manufacturers, construction companies, garbage collection companies, mining and extractive industries, agro-processing, harbours and ports, financial services, and digital start-ups will operate a three-shift system 24/7 in an atmosphere of safety and security.

“This 24-hour economy I propose will be voluntary, it will not be imposed. Businesses will be encouraged to sign up with tax incentives provided for enhanced security and lower electricity tariffs after peak hours. Special meters will be deployed to provide what is known as time-of-use tariffs to deliver cheaper power to such businesses during the hours of especially 10:00 am and 6:00 am,” he explained in an address to Catholic Bishops in Sunyani on Saturday, November 18.

The new leader of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has mocked the concept of the 24-hour economy proposed by former President John Dramani Mahama. Dr. Bawumia suggested that the former president is lacking new ideas, expressing skepticism about the feasibility of the proposed initiative.

“Today, John Mahama says he has new ideas and that he wants a 24-hour economy, he doesn’t even understand that policy,” the Vice President stated.

“Today, our hospitals, Electricity Company, Water Company, fuel stations, chop bars and many sectors all work 24 hours. Today, because of digitalization you can transfer and receive money in 24 hours, so he doesn’t understand his own policy,” the Vice President argued.

Speaking to a gathering at a rally during his “Thank You Tour” in Tamale in the Northern Region, the Vice President asked Ghanaians to vote massively for him, saying, “Vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in 2024, I will bring new vision, I will bring new policies and we will transform this country.”

“John Dramani Mahama is the past, Dr. Bawumia is the future. If John Mahama was still around we would have had dumsor [Power cuts], and you can’t have dumsor with 24-hour economy,” he stated.

But the Vice President has been lambasted by some critics for downplaying the policy.

“Everyone knows him; he’s humble and very resourceful” – Mahama hints on a male running mate for 2024 elections

Former President and National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has reportedly provided hints about his choice for a running mate in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

This indication follows a request from the Northern Regional caucus of the party to reconsider his initial pick, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman.

During an address to party supporters in the Bono East Region, Mahama hinted that the selected individual would be a man, emphasizing the person’s past service as a minister in his previous government and their diligent discharge of duties.

“Everyone knows him; he’s humble and very resourceful; he served in my government,” the NDC flagbearer stated.

Even though the former president has made suggestions about his running mate, he gave his supporters assurances that the selection process would begin in 2024, giving the party plenty of time for deliberation and consultation.

The Ghana I entrusted to Akufo-Addo, Bawumia differs from today’s reality – Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama expressed his dissatisfaction with the current state of the country under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo and the vice president.

Speaking at a durbar with Zongo chiefs in Goaso on November 22, 2023, as part of his #BuildingGhanaTour, Mahama stated that the nation has witnessed a decline, deviating from the historical trend where successive governments continued the positive initiatives of their predecessors since the era of former President Rawlings.

“Things have become more diffult than it was before. Bad governance has led the country to where it is today. Things are not going on well, and we have been swallowed by debt.”

Mr Mahama has pledged to address the escalating cost of the Hajj pilgrimage if elected back into office. During his time in office, Mahama noted that the cost was GHC15,000, but it has now surged to GHC75,000, preventing many Muslims from participating.

Expressing his commitment to reducing the cost and ensuring more Muslims can afford the pilgrimage, Mahama urged citizens to consider their living conditions when casting their votes.

Mahama initiated a nationwide tour in November known as the “Building Ghana Tour.” The tour aims to connect with Ghanaians, instill hope, and fulfill promises made to NDC branch executives.

It provides a platform for Mahama to engage with supporters, sympathizers, and citizens from diverse backgrounds.

The tour covers all 16 regions, incorporating town hall meetings, community outreach programs, and interactions with local communities to understand their concerns and aspirations for a prosperous Ghana.

24-hour economy: Stop criticizing Mahama – US economist tells Bawumia

A Ghanaian economist residing in the United States, Dr. Sa-ad Iddrisu, has counseled Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia to cease criticizing former President John Mahama for his 24-hour economy proposal.

Dr. Iddrisu contends that Mr. Mahama’s envisioned policy is not only plausible but also attainable in the country.

“It is crucial to acknowledge that the extent of a 24-hour economy may vary within a country and is often concentrated in major urban centers. Therefore, with the right political will, the establishment of a 24-hour economy is not only conceivable but also achievable in Ghana. John Mahama deserves commendation for proposing such a transformative plan for the country.

“The Vice President, H.E Dr. Bawumia, must stop jabbing H.E John Mahama and tell Ghanaians his economic policy alternatives. The upcoming 2024 election holds significant importance, and voters should exercise caution when evaluating politicians who engage in persistent criticism of their opponent(s) without presenting substantive policy alternatives,” Dr. Iddrisu indicated in a statement.

He continued: “I am urging Ghanaians to hold such politicians accountable and demand a higher standard. This juncture is not a time for jest; it marks a crucial phase in Ghana’s history where politicians, both in government and opposition, must proffer policies capable of rescuing the economy from potential collapse.”

    Below is the full statement

The Vice President, H.E Dr. Bawumia, must stop jabbing H.E John Mahama and tell Ghanaians his economic policy alternatives. The upcoming 2024 election holds significant importance, and voters should exercise caution when evaluating politicians who engage in persistent criticism of their opponent(s) without presenting substantive policy alternatives. I am urging Ghanaians to hold such politicians accountable and demand a higher standard. This juncture is not a time for jest; it marks a crucial phase in Ghana’s history where politicians, both in government and opposition, must proffer policies capable of rescuing the economy from potential collapse.

In light of an economy reliant on a $3 billion IMF lifeline, citizens should anticipate policy propositions that extend beyond rhetoric. Initiatives like a “24-hour economy” should be part of the discourse, fostering an environment conducive to private sector growth, job creation for the unemployed youth, and the overall enhancement of the average Ghanaian’s well-being. Thus, the electorate should challenge politicians to articulate their proposed solutions rather than succumbing to the conventional pattern of disparagement and verbal jousting.

As previously articulated in my various media engagements, the advantages of implementing a 24-hour economy in specific sectors are substantial, contingent upon the availability of essential infrastructure such as electricity, water, and security. Also, while acknowledging that no economy operates ceaselessly, certain countries and cities have successfully incorporated features of a 24-hour economy due to heightened service demand or cultural practices. Noteworthy examples, which the Vice President, Dr. Bawumia, must be made aware of, include:

United States: Cities like New York and Las Vegas are renowned for their vibrant day and nightlife and continuous activities, facilitated by a 3-shift system spanning 8 hours each.

Japan: Metropolises like Tokyo boast a vibrant economy, with services such as convenience stores and public transportation accessible 24/7, generating additional employment opportunities.

South Korea: Cities like Seoul feature a dynamic 3-shift system, accompanied by round-the-clock availability of services like transportation and convenience stores and a dynamic nightlife.

Singapore: The city-state of Singapore operates a well-established 24-hour economy, ensuring that public transportation, dining, and shopping services remain accessible at all hours.

United Kingdom: London, particularly in central areas, sustains a thriving nightlife, with select services operating continuously 24/7, contributing to increased job opportunities.

Dubai: The United Arab Emirates city of Dubai is internationally recognized for its 24-hour economy, characterized by activities and services available around the clock.

It is crucial to acknowledge that the extent of a 24-hour economy may vary within a country and is often concentrated in major urban centers. Therefore, with the right political will, the establishment of a 24-hour economy is not only conceivable but also achievable in Ghana. Mahama made an error in BOST profitability claim because he was misinformed – BOST MD

Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST), Edwin Provencal, has challenged assertions that the company recorded profits in 2015 and 2016 during former President John Mahama’s administration.

Former President Mahama had recently asserted that BOST achieved net profits of GHC109.36 million in 2015 during an engagement with members of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) in Accra.

However, in an interview on the Asaase Breakfast Show, Provencal refuted Mahama’s claims, stating that the former president was misinformed.

“I can understand why the former president may make that error,” the BOST boss said. “This is because normally when Ministry of Finance requests for data from institutions, the year would not have ended and the accounts unaudited.”

“After an independent auditor comes in to audit, that is when the true state of affairs may come out. So, I am sure the document used by Mahama is what is flawed. He was not told the truth, so he used that information to make that statement,” Provencal said.

On the other hand, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has criticised the policy, adding that Mr Mahama lacks an understanding of the policy he is promising to Ghanaians.

“I hear John Mahama has a new idea and he wants to run a 24-hour economy. I say where did he get this idea from? It is not a bright idea! A 24-hour economy cannot be legislated by the government,” Dr Bawumia said.

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has pledged to review the Customs Amendment Act 2020 to allow for the importation of salvaged vehicles.

While the implementation of the Act is currently suspended, the former President is concerned about its potential negative impact on artisans and the transport business.

Mr Mahama made this commitment during an engagement at the Techiman Market as part of the “Building Ghana Tour,” where he interacts with various economic groups to document their challenges.

Artisans in Techiman expressed dissatisfaction with the Customs Amendment Act, which prohibits the importation of salvaged motor vehicles and cars over 10 years of age while providing incentives for registered automobile manufacturers and assemblers under the Ghana Automotive Manufacturers Programme.

In addressing these concerns, Mahama suggested that the ban on salvaged cars could be limited to government agencies.

“Since government buys cars more than any individual and also have the purchasing power, they should buy from the assembly plants for them to get their profits. So that those who can’t buy the new cars will also import the salvaged ones. When we return to power, we will make changes in the act,” he said.

To modernize the vehicle mechanic trade, the former President acknowledged the necessity of providing training to artisans in modern technology for their businesses.

He outlined the plans of the NDC government when it regains power, emphasizing the importance of equipping artisans with the skills and knowledge required to work with contemporary automotive technologies.

“When I was Vice President, we partnered with SMIDO at Suame Magazine to construct a training centre and equip it with all the modern machinery to aid the training of apprentices,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mr Mahama has insisted on the legalisation of the tricycle business.

  • Apologise to Mahama for lying about forward cocoa sales – Eric Opoku tells COCOBOD boss

Apologise to Mahama for lying about forward cocoa sales – Eric Opoku tells COCOBOD boss

Ranking Member on Parliament’s Food and Agriculture Committee, Eric Opoku, has called on the Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD, Joseph Boahen Aidoo, to render an unqualified apology to former President John Mahama for criticizing him over his comments on Ghana’s 2023/24 cocoa forward sales.

Shortly after the announcement of the farm-gate price of cocoa for the 2023/24 cocoa season, former President Mahama criticized government for shortchanging cocoa farmers by pegging the farm-gate price at a paltry GHS1,308 despite a 46-year record-high surge in the world market price.

In an Open Letter to former President Mahama dated 12th September, 2023, Mr Joseph Boahen Aidoo, questioned President Mahama’s understanding of how the producer price of cocoa is determined and claimed that the former President erroneously used $3,600 as the world market price to calculate the producer price.

Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD, Joseph Boahen Aidoo

In that statement, the COCOBOD CEO claimed that consistent with practice, Ghana’s cocoa beans are “mostly sold forward”, and that “the 2023/24 crop was sold between October 2022 and March 2023 at international prices; ranging between $2,200 per ton and $2,400 per ton.”

The statement added that “the international price of cocoa then began to increase in April 2023, when a greater percentage of the 2023/24 crop had already been sold.”

But according to the MP for Asunafo South, Eric Opoku, the Minority in Parliament has come by indisputable evidence that exposes a blatant lie peddled by the Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD

“It has now emerged that the CEO of COCOBOD told deliberate falsehood in his desperate attempt to justify the rip-off that the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government has meted out to our hard working cocoa farmers,” he wrote in a statement.

According to Mr Opoku, in documents submitted to Parliament by COCOBOD as part of processes for the approval of the syndicated loan for cocoa purchases for the 2023/24 crop season, it was disclosed that only 36.2% of our cocoa for this season was sold forward and used as collateral to secure the $800 million syndicated loan.

“Specifically, Paragraph 7.2 of the Joint Memorandum to Parliament by the Minister for Food and Agriculture and the Minister of Finance on the approval of the terms of the $800 million syndicated facility partly reads; “The facility does not add to Ghana’s debt stock. The loan is backed by cocoa sales contracts, and the quantity of cocoa collateralized for its repayment is about 36.20% of the anticipated production”.

“For the avoidance of doubt, 36.2% of the projected cocoa output for the 2023/24 season translates to a paltry 307,700 tons. This volume of cocoa cannot by any stretch of imagination constitute a “greater percentage” of our projected annual production volume (i.e 850,000 tons) as claimed by the CEO of COCOBOD in his deceitful response to President Mahama,” he added.

Mr Opoku further highlighted that COCOBOD also disclosed to Parliament that the remainder of 63.8% of our 2023/24 cocoa output, which translates to 542,300 tons would be sold on the market at spot prices, which has been ranging between $3,600 and $4,000.

He asserts that if COCOBOD succeeds in selling the remainder at the minimum spot price of $3,600 per ton as a worst case scenario, COCOBOD would have shortchanged our hard working cocoa farmers to tune of $542,300,000 (GHC6.5billion).

“As a matter of fact, further information submitted to Parliament indicates that, COCOBOD has already sold part of the remaining 63.8% of our cocoa output for the 2023/24 season at spot prices ranging between $3,500 and $3,770 per ton from October to mid-November 2023,” he continued.

Per the information privy to him, Mr Opoku concluded that former President Mahama was spot on when he accused the government of shortchanging cocoa farmers whose “toil and sacrifices continue to sustain the country’s economy.”

“The incompetent and dishonest CEO of COCOBOD in his bid to deceive our hard-working farmers, threw truth and integrity to the dogs and sought to attack the credibility of President Mahama for exposing this grand heist.”

He iterated that Mr Joseph Boahen Aidoo has lied to cocoa farmers and the entire nation.

“He had no basis whatsoever to impugn ill motive into what was a statement of fact by the respected former President. He therefore owes President Mahama, hardworking cocoa farmers and the entire nation an unqualified apology,” Mr Opoku added.

Meanwhile, the Minority Group in Parliament, in conjunction with the NDC Communications Bureau, will embark on a series of engagements with cocoa farmers across the country on this subject.

Mahama is also a religious harlot – Koku Anyidoho says after posting video of Mahama reciting Muslim prayers

Former Deputy General Secretary for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, has labelled former President John Dramani Mahama a “religious harlot” for his close ties with the Muslim community despite being a Christian.

He made this statement after digging up a video of former President John Mahama reciting Islamic prayers with Muslims in April 2022.

Mr Anyidoho did so to address a recent issue of “religious tolerance” ahead of the country’s next polls.

Discussions about the 2024 elections have primarily revolved around Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and former president and 2024 flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Amidst this, Ningo-Prampram MP, Samuel Nartey George, has labeled the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as “a religious prostitute” due to his closeness with the Christian community despite being a Muslim.

This comment has faced condemnation, particularly from those in government, who argue that such statements risk breaking religious unity and tolerance in the country.

Wading into the conversation, Mr Anyidoho in a post on X on November 17, noted that Mr. Mahama is also complicit in the allegations levelled against Dr Bawumia by Mr Nartey George as history recounts him reciting Muslim prayers despite being a Christian.

“When you are a Leader and fail to rebuke the ill-bred children in your midst, you end up carrying the stench of the feces. Per what Sam George said about Veep Bawumia, then John Mahama too is a religious harlot for being a supposed Christian & reciting Muslim prayers,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, former United Nations Envoy to West Africa and the Sahel Region, Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas, has advised Ghanaians to exercise caution regarding divisive religious and ethnic sentiments ahead of the 2024 general election.

Speaking at the “Empowering Citizens and Enriching Nation-Building” forum organized by Star Ghana at the British Council in Accra on Friday, November 10, Dr. Chambas stressed that the selection of the country’s leaders should go beyond religious and ethnic considerations. He emphasized that citizens should evaluate political parties based on their messages, policy suggestions, and strategies for managing the nation’s affairs.

He stated, “The commitment to the betterment of our country is a collective responsibility and must transcend political, religious, and ethnic boundaries. Unfortunately, we are seeing some divisive tendencies in our society, and we must all be careful about them, especially when we have elections in 2024. When it comes to election year, all our demons come out.”

Dr. Chambas encouraged both citizens and political parties to prioritize issue-based campaigning for the upcoming 2024 general election.

“So please let us focus on messages when we are choosing our leaders in this country,” he emphasized.

In his speech, he said: “”Let me thank you all, very much, for making the time to join us from all over the country and beyond for today’s Friday prayers. This is coming just two days after the entire country fasted and prayed for the Almighty God and Allah’s intervention as our country goes through this challenge with the coronavirus pandemic.

“For us in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the millions of sympathisers and supporters across the country, we are very happy to be joining in this national effort towards seeking God’s presence and intervention.  Last Sunday, from this very venue, I hosted our Christian brothers and sisters. And I wish to thank my fathers, the National Chief Imam, Maulvi Bin Salih, Sheikh Umar, and all of you who joined us today for your time, and the commitment to a national cause.”

BOST did not make profit under Mahama’s govt – report

The former president and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has made emphatic claims regarding the profitability of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST).

According to Mahama, BOST was operating and generating profits during his administration.

“When we were in office…BOST was working and making profit,” the former President said  when he was addressing the Trades Union Congress (TUC) in Accra on Tuesday, November 7.

The claim made by John Dramani Mahama regarding the profitability of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST) during his tenure is contradicted by the audited financial statements, per a research conducted by JoyNews.

According to the financial reports, BOST consistently incurred losses from 2013 to 2016, with the total cumulative losses reaching a significant amount.

The audited financial report shows a challenging financial landscape, with BOST reporting losses of GHS30.91 million in 2013, GHS89.37 million (Revised: GHS68.01 million) in 2014, GHS36.34 million in 2015, and a staggering GHS458.64 million in 2016.

This stark financial reality challenges Mr. Mahama’s assertion regarding the company’s profitability during his tenure. In fact, the total cumulative losses incurred by BOST under Mahama reached up to a whopping GHS615.26 million with no profit recorded between 2013 and 2016.

NDC stands for development and we keep our promises – Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama is encouraging Ghanaians not to lose hope during what he claims is an era of economic hardship.

He asserts that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is the only party capable of rescuing the country for a brighter future.

Speaking at the Apostolic Continuation Church in Techiman, Bono Region, as part of his Building Ghana Tour on Sunday, November 19, 2023, Mahama emphasized that the NDC is a development-oriented party that ensures comprehensive progress for the country when in power.

Attributing the current challenges and hardships to the Akufo-Addo-led administration, Mahama criticized the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), stating that the NDC does not make promises it cannot fulfill, unlike the NPP.

In urging Ghanaians not to give up, Mahama is positioning the NDC as a party capable of delivering on its commitments for the overall development of the nation.

“We are not like them, we don’t promise when we know we can’t deliver, we don’t just promise we keep them, NDC is the only development-oriented party.”

Speaking before the congregation, he further noted that “People thought there was development and prosperity here, and now we have lost everything. The nation is pitiful, the country is facing hardships, and the economy is bad.”

“I thought they would continue the good work I left behind, but the nation seems to be retrogressing in development,” Mahama complained.

Reflecting on Ghana’s history as the first African country to gain independence and hold the title of the black star of Africa, Mr. Mahama urged the youth to maintain hope in the promise of a better Ghana. He emphasized that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is the best choice for fostering development and growth in the country.

“One thing has become resoundingly clear, and it is that our country is not on the right path. We are clearly headed for a major ditch if immediate action is not taken to reverse the trend. I also asked, after listening to many of the people who spoke in these interactions, what we can do collectively to address the excruciating hardship and suffering confronting many a Ghanaian’’ Mahama lamented.

“The problems of our country are legion and hydra-headed. As I distilled from my interactions with the people of Ghana on this tour, the most pressing problem is the impact of the ailing economy on livelihoods, prospects, and dreams”, he said.

  • Mahama’s decision to scrap teacher licensure exams commonsensical, justified – Clement Apaak

Mahama’s decision to scrap teacher licensure exams commonsensical, justified – Clement Apaak

Deputy Ranking Member on the Education Committee of Parliament, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, has expressed his support for former President Mahama’s decision to review the Free Senior High School (SHS) program and cancel the nationwide teacher licensure examination.

According to the Member of Parliament for Builsa South, various stakeholders in Ghana’s education sector are in favor of reevaluating the Free SHS program and discontinuing the teacher licensure examination.

Despite resistance from government, Dr. Apaak believes that the promises made by Mr Mahama are sensible, justified, and will be implemented if he assumes the presidency.

“JM is not opposed to examining teachers as a basis of certifying them as professionals. However, like teacher trainees and stakeholders in teacher training, JM is opposed to the current arrangement towards certification. His reasonable alternative is to make the examination towards professional certification a final-year compulsory course to be written alongside other final-year courses.”

“In JM’s variant, when a teacher trainee passes all final year courses, including the course tailored to certify a trainee as a professional teacher, the trainee is given a licence. If the trainee passes all courses but fails the certification course, he/she doesn’t get a licence and would have to re-register the course and write it in his/her college as is the case with final year compulsory courses,” he added.

Dr. Apaak made these comments in response to Deputy Minister of Education, Mr. John Ntim Fordjour’s criticism of the former president, where Fordjour described Mahama as the most significant threat to Ghana’s progress.

Dr. Apaak argued that Mr. Fordjour and the NPP government either lack an understanding of public sentiment or are out of touch with reality. He reiterated his support for Mahama’s proposed education policy reforms, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive review to address challenges within the education sector.

    Below is the full statement:

JM’s Promises To Review fSHS and To Cancel Teacher Lincensure Examination Make Sense

Every stakeholder in education in Ghana is in favor of reviewing the fSHS programme and the cancellation of the Teacher Lincensure examination, but NADAA, DMB, Hon. Fordjour and the NPP gov’t.

The promises made by JM are commonsensical, justified and will be implemented when he takes over as President.

Hon. Fordjour and the NPP gov’t are either out of touch with reality or haven’t followed public sentiments.

If JM has plans to cancel fSHS he wouldn’t be planning to invite stakeholders to a national forum to discuss fSHS.

JM has on several occasions said that fSHS has come to stay. Like most Ghanaians however, he is concerned about the well documented implementation challenges and how to address them to make the fSHS better for national good.

Ghanaians of all walks of life are calling for a review of the fSHS policy, which has been implemented for over six years, and JM will honour this call because the fSHS programme is challenged by: erratic academic calendar; inadequate and unwholesome food; inadequate academic and residential space; overworked teaching and non-teaching staff amongst others.

Equally, JM’s proposed forum on fSHS will also consider the role of PTA’s and private secondary schools in the delivery of the policy.

JM is not opposed to examining teachers as a basis of certifying them as professionals.

However, like teacher trainees and stakeholders in teacher training, JM is opposed to the current arrangement towards certification.

His reasonable alternative is to make the examination towards professional certification a final-year compulsory course to be written alongside other final-year courses.

In JM’s variant, when a teacher trainee passes all final year courses, including the course tailored to certify a trainee as a professional teacher, the trainee is given a licence.

If the trainee passes all courses but fails the certification course, he/she doesn’t get a licence and would have to re-register the course and write it in his/her college as is the case with final year compulsory courses.

This mode of teacher certification in addition to JM’s promise to cancel the one-year compulsory national service, which is currently an additional requirement for appointment as a teacher by the Ghana Education Service, has additional advantages.

Under JM’s proposal, teacher trainees who pass all courses, including the certification course, are immediately posted to the classroom; no wasting a year doing national service and no need to pay, after national service, to write a licensure examination.

We can certify our teacher trainees to professional teachers and deploy them in the classrooms sooner, where they are most needed, through a cheaper, simplified yet rigorous process.

Mahama to win 2024 election – Fitch Solution, EIU predicts

According to a report on myjoyonline.com, both the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) and Fitch Solutions, two UK-based research firms, have predicted a win for former President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming 2024 General elections.

The EIU attributes the potential shift to factors such as declining living standards, limited job opportunities, and insufficient public services in Ghana.

Similarly, Fitch Solutions anticipates that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) tenure is unlikely to continue, projecting that former President Mahama will secure victory in swing regions with a significant margin, obtaining nearly 48% compared to Vice President Bawumia’s projected 29%.

To support their forecasts, Fitch Solutions incorporated data from Global Info Analytics alongside their proprietary data.

The analysis places the NDC ahead of the NPP in key regions, including the Volta and Oti Regions, the three Northern Regions, and the Akan regions, suggesting a challenging scenario for the ruling NPP to retain power after the 2024 election.

Supreme Court dismisses Kuranchie’s suit against Mahama’s eligibility for 2024 elections

The Supreme Court of Ghana has dismissed a case brought by Kenneth Kwabena Agyei Kuranchie, the editor of the Daily Searchlight newspaper, against former President John Dramani Mahama, challenging his eligibility to run for president.

The court remarked that Ken Kuranchie needs to acquire mastery and learn the legal trade beneath his feet.

Earlier, in June 2023, the editor filed a lawsuit against the former president, seeking a declaration on the proper interpretation of Article 66(1) of the 1992 Constitution, specifying the presidential term as four years.

Kuranchie argued that based on the interpretation of Article 62, a former president is not qualified to seek re-election. He urged the court to prevent John Mahama from pursuing his presidential ambition.

On September 25, 2023, he submitted a motion to the Supreme Court, stating that John Mahama sought an order to dismiss Kuranchie’s writ, filed on June 12, 2023, citing technicalities.

However, in a ruling on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, the Supreme Court rejected the suit, affirming that former President John Dramani Mahama is eligible to run in the 2024 General Elections.

  • We have already rescued the country, what more rescuing do you want to do – Bawumia quizzes Mahama

We have already rescued the country, what more rescuing do you want to do – Bawumia quizzes Mahama

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has refuted claims that the 2024 National Democratic Congress (NDC) Flagbearer, John Mahama, has plans to rescue the economy and the country in general.

According to the Vice President, such action is currently not needed as the economy has already been saved by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In an interview with Asaase Radio on Sunday night, November 12, he reacted to the argument by the NDC’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama that he was going on a rescue mission for Ghana in Election 2024.

“This [Ghana] economy had to be rescued by the IMF [International Monetary Fund], they [NDC] had to go for a rescue, that was the real rescue mission, as a price of mismanagement of this economy.”

“And so they went for a rescue mission [from the IMF] and they were not even able to stay the course of the IMF programme. They went off track, so, that rescue mission by the IMF didn’t quite work because they were not following the terms of the agreement,” the Vice President added.

He continued saying, “The real rescue happened when by the grace of God with the election of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and with that election we came into office and again, all the things that were going wrong, we have tried to right them, we have very much put everything back on course.”

“We have brought macroeconomic stability, we have restored teacher training allowances, nursing training allowances, we have brought in new initiatives like planting for food and jobs, the one district one factory transformation and that is taking place and so we have really rescued this country and this economy from the mismanagement of John Mahama,” Dr Bawumia said.

He therefore quizzed, “what they mean by coming to rescue?”

“We have rescued the country already, and we are now building upon that unless maybe they are not informed,” Dr Bawumia asserted.

Breaking the 8 not likely and NDC is no credible alternative – Alan Kyerematen

The Founder of the Movement for Change and an independent presidential candidate for the 2024 general election, Alan Kyerematen, has underlined his confidence in his vision for the nation, suggesting that neither NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama nor Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia can match it in the upcoming 2024 elections.

While extending his congratulations to Vice President Bawumia on being selected as the NPP’s flagbearer, Kyerematen expressed the view that this outcome was largely anticipated.

He noted that the electoral process appeared to have been strategically and tactically tilted in favor of a specific candidate, as evidenced by the results of the primaries.

“Whilst using this opportunity to congratulate His Excellency the Vice President on taking over the mantle of leadership in the NPP, his selection as flagbearer is not a surprise to any serious political watcher. It was the widely anticipated outcome of the elections. I had been saying all along that the electoral process had been strategically and tactically skewed in favour of a particular candidate. That is what we saw on Saturday,” Mr Kyerematen said in an interview with the Daily Ghanaian Guide.

Additionally, Mr. Kyerematen raised inquiries regarding the margin of victory, suggesting that the Vice President’s 60% vote share, while significant, could be indicative of not having complete control over the ruling NPP.

“Judging from the widely publicized expected margin of not less than 80% in favour of the Vice President, I am inclined to think that the 60% vote for him provides a clear indication that the Vice President does not have total control of his own Party. The election results must also be analysed against the background that the Vice President has been campaigning for the Flagbearership since 2020 and has been the beneficiary of both State and Party sponsored support.”

Regarding the commonly heard slogan “Break the Eight” within the NPP, Mr Kyerematen conveyed his opinion that this narrative does not resonate with the everyday concerns of the majority of Ghanaians, who are dealing with economic difficulties and unemployment. He also stated that the NDC does not offer a credible alternative.

As a result, he called for the emergence of a “Third Force” in Ghana’s politics and emphasized that the recently formed Movement for Change, under his leadership, represents a beacon of hope for the nation.

“Well, the emerging chorus and narrative from the Party for ‘Unity’ to Break the Eight, has very little relevance to the loud public demand for change in the political leadership of our country, to respond to the critical challenges of our time. The call to Break the Eight does not reflect the everyday concerns of the majority of Ghanaians, about the ailing economy and the lack of jobs for the teeming youth of Ghana.

“So for me, the chances of NPP Breaking the Eight is very slim. In the same vein, however, the NDC does not provide a credible alternative. It is against this background, that the ever-increasing appetite of Ghanaians for a ‘Third Force’, must be considered as the only hope for Ghana to rise again. This is where the newly established Movement for Change under my leadership, becomes the saving grace for Ghana.”

Dancing and pointing to God: How JDM responded to Bawumia’s victory

On Saturday, November 4, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was declared the winner of the New Patriotic Party’s presidential election to represent the ruling party in the 2024 general elections.

Now, it is official that he will compete against the candidate from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, in the upcoming December 2024 general election.

There have been reports that votes from the north cannot now be predicted due to the two flagbearers hailing from the north.

Surprisingly, the NDC and former president John Mahama have been captured, jubilating the selection of Dr Bawumia.

In a video gone viral, Mr Mahama, draped in all-white attire, was spotted dancing. At a point, he lifted his finger to the heavens, suggesting that this was the Lord’s doing.

For the NDC, they believe Dr Bawumia being the NPP’s flagbearer, will guarantee their return to power in 2025, an assertion the ruling party has fiercely contested.

A total of 203,439 delegates participated in the NPP election conducted November 4, in the various constituencies across all 16 regions of Ghana.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia polled 118,210 votes, representing 61.43 percent, Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong garnered 71,991 votes (37.41 percent), former Agric Minister, Dr Afriyie Akoto got 1,459 votes (0.76 percent) and former Mampong MP, Frimpong Addai-Nimoh secured 781 votes, representing (0.41 percent).

Mahama is a formidable opponent – Sammi Awuku

Former National Organiser for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and prominent member of the Bawumia campaign team, Sammi Awuku, has openly recognized the strong competition posed by the opposition party’s candidate, John Dramani Mahama.

In an interview on JoyNews’ The Probe, he acknowledged that securing victory in the 2024 election won’t be a straightforward endeavor for their party.

He emphasized that while the NPP will primarily face off against Mr Mahama, he remains confident that their candidate will prevail in the 2024 elections. Mr. Awuku attributed this potential success to the strategic approach the NPP intends to implement.

    Former President John Dramani Mahama

“We are up against a very formidable opponent, but the NPP will win 2024 based on superior strategy – our message and our ability,” he admitted.

“I am confident of NPP victory in 2024 because what is the alternative? The alternative must also tell us what they intend to do. They are not new to the politics of our country,” he added.

On Saturday, November 4, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was elected to lead the NPP in a closely contested presidential primary.

In his victory speech, he urged his fellow contenders and party members to unite and collaborate in pursuit of the NPP’s goal to ‘break the 8.’

The youth see Ken as the next J.J Rawlings – NDC Oti Regional Secretary

The Oti Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Gabriel Lembue, has expressed concerns about the potential implications of Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong winning the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primaries.

He believes that if Agyapong emerges as the NPP’s presidential candidate, it would pose a significant challenge for the opposition party in the 2024 general elections.

Lembue emphasized that Agyapong represents hope for many young people, who see him as a figure similar to the NDC’s late founder, Jerry John Rawlings, who is credited with bringing positive changes to the country. Therefore, Lembue has openly voiced his preference for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s success in the ongoing NPP presidential primaries.

He believes that a contest between John Dramani Mahama, the NDC’s likely 2024 flagbearer, and Vice President Bawumia would be advantageous for the opposition party.

“When you have people on the streets telling you that we want this fellow, it is a revolutionary time when we had the Rawlings. People think that Ken is the next Rawlings, so we will have quite the challenge in putting people together.

“What are you going to say about Ken. Ken says I am a job creator. Our people need hope and the message of hope has been trumpted by Ken Agyapong. Personally, I won’t hide it. We have been a bit concerned.

“But I’m happy that the system is pushing for a candidate that would make it simple for us. I would wish that the NPP would overwhelmingly endorse Dr Bawumia today. I will personally celebrate.”

Meanwhile, provisional results from the NPP primaries see Dr Bawumia in the lead position. But Kennedy Agyapong is currently giving the Vice President a run for his money.

Divinity and science: Why Kantanka did not receive government support up until now

Former President John Dramani Mahama has provided insights into why Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, the founder of the Great Kosa Company, faced challenges in securing essential support for his automotive firm from successive governments.

During a discussion about why the automotive company struggled to secure capital investment, the former president noted that governments, including the one led by the late Jerry John Rawlings, faced difficulties in comprehending the precise nature of Apostle Kantanka’s work.

Mahama explained that although the government expressed a desire to assist, Apostle Kantanka didn’t adequately demonstrate that his work was rooted in science. This lack of clarity hindered efforts to attract investors.

“When you say God gave you a vision and you took an ant hill and built an engine, I mean no bank would give you money, you get my point. To build a car, you must build the car. You need metals, (sic), you must make the engine… if it is an electric car, you must do the circuiting and all that.

“It is all science-based. I was in the first government of Rawlings and that was when a delegation was sent to see how he can be helped but he told us it is divine… If it is divine, then God would give that capital to do it – you get my point,” he said.

Mahama, who also serves as the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2024 election, emphasized that Kwadwo Safo Kantanka Jnr, Apostle Kantanka’s son who now leads the company, has effectively articulated the company’s activities.

“So, we could not get proof of what really to help him with but his son has taken over the business and his son says it is an assembling plant – we are importing the components and we are building the vehicle. And so now the government has started to buy Kantanka cars, I have seen the police using some of them and so on,” he said.

Currently, the Ghana Police Service utilitises some vehicles made by Kantanka.

Mahama sends truck load of relief items to Keta flood victims

In the wake of severe flooding that struck the Volta Region due to the spillage of excess water from the Akosombo and Kpong Dams, numerous individuals and organizations from across Ghana have extended their support to the affected communities.

Among those offering assistance is the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ghana’s largest opposition political party. In a display of solidarity, audio-visual footage shared by NDC supporters on social media platforms showcases trucks filled with relief goods en route to the flood-affected areas in the Volta Region.

One of the prominent contributors to this relief effort is John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate of the NDC. His team reportedly dispatched a sizable truck loaded with essential supplies, bound for Keta, one of the heavily affected regions.

The provision of these goods aims to alleviate the suffering and challenges faced by the flood victims, as the catastrophic floods have taken a toll on their homes, livelihoods, and communities. The images and videos of these relief efforts have garnered attention on social media, highlighting the collective efforts of Ghanaians to support those in need during this challenging time.

This act of goodwill from the NDC and other supporters underscores the importance of unity and solidarity during crises, demonstrating that Ghanaians are committed to helping their fellow citizens in times of adversity. As the affected communities grapple with the aftermath of the floods, the support they receive from various quarters, including political parties, organizations, and individuals, is vital in helping them rebuild their lives and restore their communities.

“This is a lot. He (Mahama) brought about 3000 mattresses, 2000 bags of rice, 2000 cartons of tin tomatoes, 2000 cartons of sardines and other things,” a woman can be heard narrating in the video.

She said that since the floods started, the residents of Keta have not received aid before.

    Background

The spillage of excess water from the Akosombo Dam and the Kpong Dam in the Volta Region has resulted in widespread devastation, affecting numerous communities.

More than 10,000 residents in the region have been compelled to evacuate their homes, and the floodwaters have inflicted severe damage on various properties, including houses, household appliances, farmlands, and vehicles.

In response to the crisis, the government has established an inter-ministerial committee tasked with assessing the extent of the damage caused by the spillage and coordinating the necessary assistance for the affected citizens.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo visited some of the worst-affected areas, such as Mepe, to offer reassurance that his administration is committed to providing support to those in distress.

Aerial images of the Volta Region, as depicted by TV3, vividly illustrate the extensive damage brought about by the flood.

These visuals reveal vast expanses of land submerged by floodwaters, encompassing agricultural fields, public spaces, and various structures, including homes, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and business establishments. The inundation is indicative of the profound impact of the flood on the region’s landscape and infrastructure.

Asiedu Nketiah ignores Anyidoho’s ‘disguised deep hatred for Mahama’ claim

National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has opted not to comment on a claim recently levelled against him by the party’s former Deputy General Secretary, Koku Anyidoho.

Koku Anyidoho claims that the National Chairman of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, harbours immense resentment against the party’s 2024 flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.

During an appearance on Starr Chat hosted by Bola Ray on Thursday, October 19, 2023, the issue popped up, and Johnson Asiedu Nketiah decided to not discuss the matter.

In response to questions, Nketiah indicated that the matter of his relationship with the former deputy general secretary was deemed unimportant for the occasion.

“I don’t think that this type of question qualifies to be answered on such an important program so let’s leave it. “Why should my relationship with a particular individual matter in such a program? Don’t allow people to drag an important program into something else… I won’t get into such questions,” he said.

In a series of Twitter posts, Mr Anyidoho alleged Mr Nketiah’s abhors former President Mahama so much that he will do everything in his power to prevent him from claiming the highest position in the land once again.

According to Mr Anyidoho, he has evidence of his claim and dares the NDC Chair to refute his comments.

In a series of tweets, Anyidoho wrote, “Mosquito’s disguised deep hatred for John Mahama has destroyed the NDC. JM tried to oust Mosquito in 2014, and Mosquito has vowed to make sure JM never becomes president again. I heard Mosquito myself vow to ensure JM never becomes president again, and I dare him to challenge me.”

Additionally, Anyidoho voiced his own commitment to his former party and its principles, despite the ongoing alleged internal strife.

He tweeted, “John Mahama & Asiedu-Nketiah want to kick me out of the NDC, but I remain loyal to my Calling. The days of John Mahama & Asiedu-Nketiah shall soon pass, and we shall restore the NDC to its past glory. Aluta continua.”

I have heard Asiedu Nketiah myself vow to ensure Mahama never becomes president again – Anyidoho

Former deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, has alleged that the National Chairman of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, widely known as General Mosquito, is determined to thwart any chances of former President John Dramani Mahama returning to the presidency.

Mr Anyidoho expressed these claims on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He accused Asiedu Nketiah of holding grudges against Mahama, which, he believes, could be detrimental to the unity and aspirations of the party.

Mr Anyidoho further asserted that this discord originates from past allegations that, during his presidency, John Dramani Mahama made an attempt to oust Asiedu Nketiah from his role in 2014.

Following the failure of this attempt, Mr Nketiah has reportedly harbored intentions to impede Mahama’s presidential comeback ever since.

In a series of tweets, Anyidoho wrote, “Mosquito’s disguised deep hatred for John Mahama has destroyed the NDC.
