MPs received cash from Chief of Staff to pass Akufo-Addo’s appointees – Manasseh Azure

Investigative journalist, Manasseh Azure has alleged that some members of the Appointments Committee receive funds from the Chief of Staff to ensure the approval of ministerial nominees during vetting sessions.

According to Mr Azure, this practice is not an isolated incident but rather a routine part of the vetting process.

He mentioned that he became aware of this information while gathering data for his new book, The President We Never Got, which focuses on President Akufo-Addo.

Since the book is solely on the president, it is believed that the Chief of Staff being referenced by the journalist is Frema Opare, who has been accused of pressuring the heads of the Finance and Health Ministries to make payment to Service Auto Group Ghana Limited which has been linked to the daughters of President Akufo-Addo in the ambulance spare parts deal saga, by the Minority in Parliament.

“I also realized in the interview and investigation for the book that whenever they were having vetting there was often cash from the office of the Chief of Staff to the members of the Appointments Committee on regular basis,” he added.

The book was launched on Thursday, August 8, 2024. It took place at Christ the King Parish Hall, opposite Jubilee House at 5 pm.

The Head of the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana, Prof. Alidu Seidu, reviewed the book at the launch.

Illegal lotto operators cost Ghana GHS1.2bn annually – Sammi Awuku

Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Sammi Awuku, has raised alarms about the growing issue of illegal lottery operations in Ghana.

In an August 8, 2024 interview with peacefmonline.com, Mr Awuku reported that the World Lottery Association estimates Ghana has approximately 680 illegal lottery operators.

He also revealed that while the country’s annual lottery revenue is estimated to be at least 1.8 billion cedis, these illegal operators divert around 1.2 billion cedis of this revenue each year.

Awuku pointed out that these unlawful operators are a major threat to the industry and urged them to legalize their operations.

“So, technically, the markets are for the illegal operators. Ghana will still move on when NPP is not in power and someday when NDC is not in power…But my point is the institution of state must be protected,” he noted.

No political power is worth shedding your blood for – Mahama

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has pledged his steadfast commitment to ensuring peace as Ghana prepares for the 2024 general elections.

Addressing attendees at the 31st Biennial General Council meeting of the Assemblies of God Church at the CK Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) in Navrongo, Upper East Region, Mr. Mahama reiterated his dedication to upholding a peaceful electoral process.

“As we go into another election, there is often a general sense of apprehension that something will go wrong. As a member of your church, I can assure you and pledge that I am a person of peace, and if there is any violence, it won’t come from me. I will do everything to ensure that Ghana remains peaceful,” he pledged.

Mahama stressed that political power should never come at the expense of Ghanaian lives or their safety.

“If you resort to violence, it is the same people you are coming to govern. And so, I don’t think that even a single drop of any Ghanaian blood is worth political power or coming into office,” he stated.

His remarks were met with applause from the over 2,500 pastors and delegates, both local and international, who appreciated his pledge to a peaceful election.

  • I don’t have hope in both NPP and NDC – Manasseh Azure

I don’t have hope in both NPP and NDC – Manasseh Azure

An investigative journalist known for his candid commentary on Ghanaian politics, Manasseh Azure Awuni, has expressed his deep disappointment in the country’s two leading political parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a recent statement, Manasseh revealed that his faith in the ability of either party to bring about meaningful change in Ghana has diminished significantly.

He reflected on the optimism he once had, particularly during the 2016 election when Akufo-Addo was vying for the presidency.

“The last I had so much hope that politics could change Ghana was in 2016 when Akufo-Addo was campaigning to be president after almost 8 years under Akufo-Addo. I am sad to say that I don’t have hope in the NPP and NDC,” he stated.

He pointed out that while corruption and other issues were rampant during the tenure of former President John Mahama, the current administration has done little to instill confidence that things would be different.

“Corruption was bad during John Mahama’s time, there was dumsor and all of that and then Akufo-Addo comes Mahama is beginning to look like an angel,” he added.

  • We hope that you participate in the presidential debate – IEA to NDC

We hope that you participate in the presidential debate – IEA to NDC

Director of Research at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), Dr. John Kwakye, has expressed hope that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will join the upcoming presidential debate set for October and November this year.

This follows sharp criticism from the Mahama 2024 Campaign, which rebuked the IEA for announcing the debate without first extending a formal invitation to the NDC.

Joyce Bawah Mogtari, the spokesperson for the Mahama 2024 Campaign, criticized the IEA, arguing that the organization does not have the legal mandate to organize election-related events.

She stressed that the IEA’s decision to proceed without consulting the NDC casts doubt on its motives.

“The Mahama 2024 Campaign strongly condemns the recent announcement by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) Ghana regarding a presidential debate for the 2024 elections. It is completely unacceptable that the IEA would make such an announcement without engaging or informing the National Democratic Congress, one of the major political parties in Ghana.

“The Constitution of Ghana does not grant the IEA any authority to organize election-related activities. The fact that the IEA has not shown the decency or respect to at least inform the NDC of its plans raises serious questions about its motives,” she said in a statement.

In response, Dr. Kwakye clarified that the IEA is currently in talks with the NDC following the debate announcement.

“Because our announcement of the presidential debate came after the NPP presidential candidate had made a similar request, the NDC accused us of doing the bidding of the NPP, but it was just a mere coincidence. We have issued a rejoinder to that effect, denying the same,” Dr. Kwakye said in an interview with TV3.

He explained that the timing of the announcement, which followed a similar request by the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, led to accusations from the NDC that the IEA was biased towards the NPP.

“We can’t say everything in the media, but we hope that the NDC will participate in the debate,” he concluded.

  • Bawumia has cheated Ghanaians with works on Sunyani airport – NDC

Bawumia has cheated Ghanaians with works on Sunyani airport – NDC

Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticized the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration for its mishandling of state resources.

He claims that the renovation contract for Sunyani Airport was awarded to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s brother without a proper competitive bidding process.

Speaking at a recent Moment of Truth event, Gyamfi highlighted that the cost charged by the Vice President’s brother for the renovation was double the amount needed to build a new airport.

“When one compares the cost of the mundane works that have been carried out at the Sunyani Airport by Bawumia’s brother’s company to the brand new ultra modern airports built by the nation builder John Dramani Mahama … it becomes clear that indeed Ghanaians have been shortchanged by Alhaji Bawumia,” he said on August 7.

Sammy Gyamfi claimed that the contract for Phase 1 of the Sunyani Airport renovation was granted at a staggering GH₵52.25 million, labeling it as excessively priced.

He criticized the awarding of this contract through sole-sourcing, which he finds unacceptable.

Gyamfi highlighted that this practice contradicts Dr. Bawumia’s strong opposition to sole-sourcing during his time in the opposition.

Meat is cheap in our markets due to PFJ initiative – Wontumi

Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, (Chairman Wontumi) has stated that, the price of meat is now affordable in the market.

He attributed the fall to the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) initiative by government.

In an interview with Abusua Nkommo at Abusua FM, he added that these initiatives have resulted in reduced food prices, with tomatoes now priced at Ghc5.

Wontumi confidently argued, “I always say Ghana is better than London. If I say so, am I a joker, or is this a joking platform that I would say such things?”

He contended, “Ghana is better than London. My children are in Ghana here because Ghana is more enjoyable than London.”

He insisted, “Because of the Planting for Food and Jobs initiative, foodstuffs are now cheap. Tomatoes are now GH¢5. Pepper, plantains, and meat are cheap in our markets.”

Despite the market prices presented by host Kojo Marfo, Chairman Wontumi remained detached from the public’s concerns about economic hardship.

Instead, he accused Marfo of promoting an agenda aligned with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), claiming that Marfo’s decision to become a vegetarian was part of this effort.

“If you have now adopted a vegetarian diet, then you’re not spending a lot. As a vegetarian, you can eat pawpaw leaves, kontomire, and cassava leaves; it’s okay for you.”

“You are spreading NDC propaganda. If not for that, you wouldn’t say you can’t even buy meat,” Chairman Wontumi responded.

  • Mahama should not be given another chance to govern Ghana – Sir John to Ghanaians

Mahama should not be given another chance to govern Ghana – Sir John to Ghanaians

The First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Atwima Nwabiagya, John Kwame Duodu, (Sir John), has voiced strong objections against the re-election of former President John Dramani Mahama.

Mr Duodu, who also serves as the Ashanti Regional TESCON Patron and Deputy National Organizer for the Friends of Bawumia, 2008 Foundation (FoB-’08), argues that Mahama’s return to power would hinder Ghana’s development.

Duodu criticized Mahama’s tenure, asserting that his administration’s economic management was poor, leaving Ghana in a worse state.

“I can confidently tell you that the John Mahama administration would receive an F9 on any academic grading system for his performance as the president of Ghana”, Sir John argued.

He expressed concern that if Mahama were re-elected, the progress achieved under the NPP’s Akufo-Addo and Bawumia leadership would be undone.

Sir John emphasized that Mahama should acknowledge his past mistakes and apologize to Ghanaians for his previous economic mismanagement.

Furthermore, Mr Duodu accused Mahama of opportunism and inconsistency, citing Mahama’s 2016 statement that “four years is not enough for any president”.

Mr Duodu also suggested that Mahama’s re-election campaign is motivated by personal ambition rather than a genuine desire to serve the nation.

He highlighted various scandals during Mahama’s presidency, arguing that they continue to negatively impact Ghanaians.

To safeguard Ghana’s future, Sir John urged voters to support Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming December elections.

He praised Dr. Bawumia as the ideal candidate to build on the NPP government’s successes and lead Ghana towards prosperity.

Sir John further defended Dr. Bawumia’s integrity, stating that he has no history of corruption, unlike Mahama.

He challenged anyone with evidence of corruption against Dr. Bawumia to come forward, noting that the NDC cannot make a similar challenge for Mahama due to his own corruption issues.

“The NDC cannot throw a similar challenge on President Mahama’s behalf because he has a history of corruption tag, he added.

  • Bawumia’s brother got an inflated GHC83m cocoa road project in 2020 – NDC claims

Bawumia’s brother got an inflated GHC83m cocoa road project in 2020 – NDC claims

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has alleged that two lucrative cocoa road projects, cumulatively valued at GH₵83 million, were awarded to Resource Access Limited, a company owned by the brother of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in 2020.

According to Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the NDC, these contracts were granted through sole-sourcing rather than a competitive bidding process, resulting in inflated costs.

Gyamfi identified the projects as the upgrading of the Assin Akropong – Odomasi – Asibrem road (22.18km) and the Kyibosohasowodze bungalow feeder road (14.50km).

He detailed that the contract for the Assin Akropong – Odomasi – Asibrem road was awarded at a value of GH₵54,263,718.64, while the Kyibosohasowodze feeder road was valued at GH₵29,468,546.54.

“Apart from the overpriced Sunyani Airport Phase One rehabilitation project, two juicy cocoa road projects were also awarded to Bawumia’s brother’s company, Resource Access Limited through sole-sourcing at an inflated cumulative cost of GH₵83 million in the year 2020,” Gyamfi claimed.

He further argued that these single-sourced projects were found by the Auditor-General to be “overpriced and awarded in breach of the Public Procurement Law, thus, causing the nation huge financial losses.”

Gyamfi referenced paragraph 65 of a Performance Audit Report by the Auditor-General on the construction of cocoa roads, which stated: “COCOBOD did not rigorously analyse its procurement options for value for money but sought approval from PPA for single sourcing and restricted tendering, thus procuring contracts which were up to three times more expensive than they could have obtained through competitive tendering.”

The NDC’s allegations raise concerns about transparency and accountability in the awarding of government contracts, particularly those involving significant sums of money.

My administration will focus on revitalizing all Developmental Authorities – Mahama

The NDC’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has unveiled plans to reassess all development authorities if he wins the election.

In a media interaction in Bolgatanga, concluding his tour of the Upper East Region, Mahama stressed the importance of a thorough review of the Coastal, Middle Belt, and Northern Development Authorities.

These agencies were created to spur development across Ghana’s 275 constituencies.

Mahama raised concerns about their performance and effectiveness in meeting their objectives.

He vowed to implement more focused and strategic development programs aimed at tackling poverty more efficiently.

Criticizing the current administration’s management of the $1 billion Pwalugu Dam project, Mahama revealed that $12 million had been disbursed without any corresponding progress, leading to a significant financial setback.

He assured that, if elected, he would oversee the project’s completion and hold those responsible accountable for the financial mismanagement.

  • Mahama revisits famous ‘Guinea Fowl scandal’

Mahama revisits famous ‘Guinea Fowl scandal’

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has refuted claims that guinea fowls from the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) flew to Burkina Faso during his presidency in 2014.

In 2014, SADA made headlines when it was reported that some guinea fowls under the initiative had supposedly migrated to Burkina Faso. Addressing the issue during a media event in Bolgatanga, as he concluded his tour of the Upper East Region, Mahama dismissed these allegations as false.

Mahama clarified that the guinea fowl project was misunderstood. Contrary to the belief that the project aimed to keep the birds in one location, the actual plan involved incubating the eggs and distributing the day-old chicks to local farmers for further rearing.

He criticized the media for spreading misinformation without verifying the details of the project.

“No guinea fowl flew to Burkina Faso. Guinea fowls are not migratory birds and the project was not for you to come and see thousands of guinea fowls in one place. It was supposed to incubate the eggs and give the guinea fowls’ day-old chicks to farmers.

“And so somebody came and asked the watchman, ‘where are the guinea fowls? And the watchman said, they go Burkina Faso, they go come back in the rainy season.’ The media went and published it. And after that, there are people who believe that there were some guinea fowls that flew to Burkina Faso. So that project died. But I think it is a project we can look at again.”

He attributed the confusion to a miscommunication with a security guard, whose comment about the birds supposedly going to Burkina Faso for the rainy season was inaccurately reported.

The former president also mentioned that the project included plans for a processing plant where mature guinea fowls would be processed and transported to market centers.

“There was supposed to be a processing plant so that the guinea fowls would be bought off the households and processed. And they would put them in frozen trucks to send them down to the south to the market. Unfortunately, the project ran into issues. The media criticised it, and they came and said the guinea fowls had flown to Burkina Faso.”

Watch Wontumi’s damning allegations against Prof Naana Opoku-Agyemang

The Ashanti Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Wontumi), has accused Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of NDC’s flagbearer John Dramani Mahama, of authoring the controversial book Agyapadie.

Wontumi didn’t mince words, calling Prof. Opoku-Agyemang a “wicked old woman” for writing a book he claims is targeted against the NPP.

“Naana Opoku-Agyeman wrote the Agyapadie book. Compare her book and what Mahama is saying. This is what they did during Kufuor’s time. How can an old woman be this wicked to write something like this,” he added.

There has been a hullabaloo evolving around the Agyapadie book in both traditional and social media spaces in Ghana.

It first garnered attention during the time of one of Ghana’s statesmen, Joseph Kwame Kyeretwie Boakye Danquah (J.B Danquah).

The document is alleged to outline a comprehensive strategy by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) designed to elevate and sustain the influence of the Akyem people across all sectors of Ghana’s economy.

A section of the populace have claimed that certain ideas and systems implemented by the Akufo-Addo-led government are in line with the book.

However, the NPP has on several occasions refuted these assertions, labeling them as diabolic plans by certain individuals who are against the Akyem people.

Speaking at the Akyem Abuakwa State Council meeting, Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin stated that the Ofori Panin Fie was more prominent before Akufo-Addo’s tenure and has not accomplished anything exceptional in the past 25 years to set themselves above others.

“We saw this during the period of J.B Danquah and we’re seeing this now. In and around October 2016, about a few months before the election, the same document known as the ‘Akyem Project’ was in circulation. The focus of that was to fan hatred between Okyeman and Asanteman to undermine the electoral efforts of Nana Akufo-Addo. Unfortunately for them, it came too late to the election.”

“This diabolic plan was revised in 2019. In the year 2020 when the Agyapa business became a political issue, the book suddenly metamorphosed into ‘Agyapadie’”.

“They think they have already won, so they are sleeping” – Nigel Gaisie warns ‘complacent’ NDC

Founder of the Prophetic Hill Chapel, Prophet Nigel Gaisie has warned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to awaken from their complacent slumber as the country gears up for the 2024 general elections come December 7,2024.

A video making trends on social media captures the prophet known for his controversial prophecies on state affairs and cryptic messages glazed in indirect prophecies to some statesmen and celebrities, has given a stern word of caution to t members of the opposition to wake up as they are “sleeping spiritually”.

On his part, the NDC has gotten “comfortable” ahead of the elections; something which he calls dangerous hence the need for their awakening.

“You people should tell the NDC people that they are sleeping spiritually, put the master camera on me. You people should tell the NDC people that it is dangerous they think they have won already, it is dangerous.

The NDC should note that they have not already won the 2024 general elections.

The NDC, they are sleeping spiritually, the thing keeps changing so they should not be comfortable” he warned during one of his church service.

In his concluding words, he boasted of his ‘credibility’ as a pastor and the need for the NDC to not downplay his words f caution.

“I am prophet Nigel and I am prophesying to the nation of Ghana” he added.

  • Dr Sekou Nkrumah pleased with Mahama’s pledge to reinstate July 1 holiday

Dr Sekou Nkrumah pleased with Mahama’s pledge to reinstate July 1 holiday

Son of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Dr. Sekou Nkrumah, has expressed enthusiasm about the pledge made by NDC flagbearer John Mahama to restore July 1 as Republic Day if he is elected.

In an interview on Joy News’ PM Express, Dr. Sekou Nkrumah highlighted the historical importance of July 1, noting, “I am pleased that John Mahama plans to reinstate it when he returns to power.”

Ghana originally became a Republic on July 1, 1960, and this date was celebrated each year until the current Akufo-Addo administration designated it as a commemorative day.

The government replaced July 1 with August 4 as Founders’ Day, a statutory holiday to honor Ghana’s founders.

During his visit to the Upper East Region, former President Mahama criticized President Akufo-Addo for changing the holiday, accusing the administration of trying to “rewrite history.”

Mr Mahama stated, “Apart from destroying the economy, one of the things this government wants to do is to rewrite our history, and we shall not allow them to rewrite our history because the president said he does not accept that one person can be the founder of our nation.”

“Nobody can come and rewrite our history. Indeed, for those of you who don’t know, when the Queen finally agreed to give Ghana independence, the UGCC Nana Akufo-Addo is fighting to be recognised as the founders of Ghana wrote a petition.

They sent people to England to tell the queen not to grant independence because we are not ready yet.”

This statement follows President Akufo-Addo’s remarks on August 3, where he reignited the debate by rejecting the idea that Ghana’s founding can be attributed to just one person during a national broadcast.

Dr. Sekou Nkrumah has voiced his concerns about the ongoing political disputes over important historical dates in Ghana, advocating for a resolution grounded in a precise understanding of history.

“We should rise above that,” he said.

He added, “We can resolve this by going back and understanding our history well without trying to manipulate it.

If Kwame Nkrumah led us to independence and became our first head of state and president, let’s give him the symbol of being the founder.

It is not for Nkrumah as a person; he died long ago, but it is a question of him representing us as Ghanaians.”

He also noted that recognizing Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s birthday, September 21, as Founder’s Day, as instituted by the late President J.E.A. Mills, is a meaningful symbol of Ghana’s independence and self-determination.

In a post on X dated August 6, 2024, Ablakwa highlighted 10 issues he uncovered that had previously been overlooked by Parliament.

Ablakwa noted that the National Cathedral project alone saved US$400 million, while the SSNIT hotels saga saved an additional US$121 million.

Other notable exposures include questionable deals involving ambulance spare parts, transaction levies, and the West Blue contract.

“A breakdown of my Top 10 Parliamentary Oversight Exposés which have cumulatively saved Ghana a colossal US$ 1.3 billion (GH¢20.2billion).

“We shall keep fighting to defeat State Capture and blatant corruption,” his post read.

    Background

In recent times, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has focused on uncovering dubious deals and projects under the current government.

One of his significant exposes involved the ambulance spare parts deal, where he raised alarms about potential corruption and requested an investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor.

Ablakwa claimed the deal was rushed through by the finance minister just five days before his removal, with $10 million already disbursed to the company.

The Ministry of Health later clarified that the contract was originally signed by the now-defunct Ministry of Special Development Initiatives with Service Auto Group Ghana Limited, covering after-sales service and maintenance for 307 Mercedes Benz Sprinter 315 CDI ambulances procured by the government in 2019.

Opoku Agyemang wasn’t abandoned, she was welcomed in Winneba – NDC Campaign team

The campaign team for Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of the flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has firmly denied allegations that market women in Winneba shunned her during a visit.

Recent reports claimed that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang left the Winneba market abruptly after being ignored by the market women.

On Monday, August 5, the campaign team issued a statement dismissing these reports as entirely unfounded and fictitious, asserting that the incident was a fabrication by the reporter.

The statement highlighted the continued warm reception Prof. Opoku-Agyemang receives from the people of Winneba, urging the public to disregard the false reports.

“For the records, Prof. Jane Opoku-Agyemang on Friday had a very successful campaign tour of Winneba in the Effutu constituency. She visited market women in their shops and stalls at the Winneba market, and interacted with shoppers and lorry drivers, amongst others, amidst cheers and encouragement from the public.

“She also drove through some principal streets of Winneba and was given a rousing welcome.”

According to the team, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang addressed a well-attended rally at the Winneba Lorry Station, where she discussed the benefits of NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy and the forthcoming Women’s Development Bank initiative, designed to support about one million women in business.

The statement clarified that the Member of Parliament for Effutu was not present at the market during Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s visit, debunking claims of a confrontation.

“At no point was the Member of Parliament for Effutu present at the same place and time that Prof Opoku-Agyemang was at the Winneba market,” the statement added.

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has disclosed that some members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) are privately hoping for the party’s defeat in the 2024 elections.

Mahama claims that these NPP supporters feel the country is being dominated by a small, exclusive group at the expense of the general populace. He indicated that these disillusioned NPP members are advocating for his return to the presidency as a means to allow the NPP to restructure and regroup.

Speaking to party supporters during his tour of the Upper East region, Mahama stated, “These are NPP people because the NPP has been captured by a small group of people. This is not Kufuor’s NPP. This is a different NPP. It has been hijacked by some people and so the democrats and others in NPP want the party to lose. So that they can go back into opposition and reorganise.”

Mahama also compared Ghana’s economic difficulties to those in other African countries, describing the situation in Ghana as more severe.

He pointed out that while there are protests in Nigeria and Kenya due to limited opportunities.

“Many people in Nigeria are on the streets demonstrating. You heard about Kenya, Kenyan youth are demonstrating because opportunities are not opening up for them. The situation in Ghana is worse,” he said.

Deputy Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Owusu-Bempah, has criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for lacking a compelling campaign message as the 2024 general elections approach.

He accuses the NDC of resorting to spreading falsehoods about the NPP government instead.

Owusu-Bempah claims the NDC is using the controversial Agyapadie document as a means to disseminate misinformation against President Akufo-Addo’s administration.

He argues that the NDC’s strategy aims to deceive Ghanaians with lies in order to gain political power.

In a statement titled “The Agyapadie Nonsense and NDC’s Big Political Lie,” Owusu-Bempah urged Ghanaians to see through the NDC’s tactics and recognize their true nature. He emphasized the importance of not placing any value on the NDC’s claims, expressing concern that their approach is designed to manipulate public perception and undermine the achievements of the NPP government. He called for a more honest and issue-based political discourse.

“As Ghana prepares for the 2024 elections, a chorus of leading politicians of the NDC have devised a new strategy to repeatedly shove their big lie down the throat of the average Ghanaian, in the hope that it could reverse their political fortunes which is irredeemably in comatose,” Owusu-Bempah stated.

“That pushback sits at the heart of the fictional publication codenamed ‘Agyapadie’ making the rounds.”

He further highlighted that the 38-page document, lacking an identified author, prominently features the Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, on the cover, with President Nana Akufo-Addo and his late father on the subsequent page.

“The Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, has dismissed the document as pure fiction fabricated by those who have long sought to incite hatred against the Ofori Panin household and Okyeman,” he added.

“But the NDC won’t stop. Even more insidious is how the NDC flagbearer, John Mahama, has waded into the matter, making categorical statements regarding the Agyapadie document. Mahama’s words and actions indicate that he has no regard for our democratic norms,” Owusu-Bempah concluded.

  • We need experienced hands to draw us out of this economic hardship – Mahama

We need experienced hands to draw us out of this economic hardship – Mahama

Former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, described the current economic situation as the worst the country has ever faced, claiming that “everything is declining under this government.”

Addressing the chiefs and residents of the Zebilla constituency, the NDC’s 2024 presidential candidate emphasised the need for a swift overhaul of the country’s management, suggesting that this could only be achieved by someone with substantial experience.

““Eighty percent of Ghanaians say Ghana is going in the wrong direction. The time has come to change course and send NPP packing. It is time for an experienced, safe pair of hands to take over the country and turn our fortunes around,” he stressed.

Things were not perfect under my government, but at least, we were making some progress…we have gone through crises in the past, but I must say that even though we have seen hard times, this time is probably the worst crisis ever experienced.

During the initial phase of his 2024 election campaign, former President John Dramani Mahama highlighted that the ongoing crisis in Ghana extends beyond the economy, affecting nearly all institutions and disproportionately impacting the vulnerable.

He attributed the situation to excessive borrowing and economic mismanagement, which has caused the Cedi to depreciate significantly.

Mahama noted that Ghana’s debt has escalated from GH₵120 billion in 2017 to GH₵750 billion in 2024, necessitating domestic debt restructuring and seeking external assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

“For the first time in our history, this is when we have overborrowed to the extent that we declare to the entire world that we are bankrupt. As I speak today, we are not servicing our debt because we told our creditors that we cannot pay.

“All the 17 times we have been to the IMF, it was just to stabilise the economy, and it was never because we couldn’t afford to pay our debt,” he added.

The NDC flag bearer refuted claims that the struggling economy was a result of COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. He pointed out that the current government received GH₵22 billion from the IMF, the World Bank, and the Stabilisation Fund during the pandemic but failed to manage these funds effectively.

He also criticised the administration for mishandling key traditional industries, which has negatively impacted the country’s foreign exchange earnings.

“The last cocoa season before I left office, we produced 967,000 metric tonnes of cocoa for export and it brought $2 billion directly into the economy but today they are producing just slightly above 400,000, so they cannot even raise $800 million to infuse the economy.

“I established two new oil wells (Sankofa and Ten fields) before I left office and so when they came, we had an increase in oil production but today our oil and gas production has declined by 32 percent,” he added.

Mr Mahama explained that the current government had damaged every sector of the economy through mismanagement and what he described as “state capture,” where only a few people were benefiting from the national cake and said it was time for a change of hands to save the country from collapse.

The 24-hour economic policy of the NDC, he said, will significantly contribute to reviving the economy and creating jobs for the youth.

Mahama claims some NPP members want NDC in power and NPP ousted

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential candidate for 2024, John Dramani Mahama, claims that some New Patriotic Party (NPP) members are secretly hoping for his victory in the upcoming December 7 general elections.

He believes this sentiment stems from their desire to see the NPP reorganize after a defeat.

Speaking to party supporters during his tour of the Upper East region, the former President highlighted that many within the NPP feel that power is concentrated among a select few, making a return to opposition necessary for the party’s renewal.

“There are many of my friends in the NPP who come and tell me, ‘NDC, you have to do well and get our party out of power’.

“These are NPP people because the NPP has been captured by a small group of people. This is not Kufuor’s group of people…This is not Kufuor’s NPP. This is a different NPP.

It has been hijacked by some people and so the democrats and others in NPP actually want the party to lose so that they can go back into opposition so that they can go and reorganize,” he stressed.

The NDC flagbearer also promised to complete all projects abandoned by the Akufo-Addo administration when voted into power on December 7.

According to him, it was important to complete ongoing projects before embarking on any new projects to help save scarce resources.

Addressing the chiefs and queen mothers at the Bawku Naaba’s Palace in the Upper East Region, the former President said it was disheartening to realise that most projects started by the NDC government have been abandoned by NPP.

“I cut sod to start the Tamne irrigation project and we didn’t complete it before we left. We finished phase one; this government continued it slowly but still, it hasn’t been done.

This project will bring about 3000 hectares of land under irrigation so that our young people can do dry season gardening, they can do all-year-round gardening so that they don’t go down South to look for menial jobs.

“So, when we come, we’ll continue the Tamne project because we know it’s going to benefit four districts in this area,” he said.

I am the victim, Mahama is playing the victim card – Koku Anyidoho

Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, has rejected claims that he harbors animosity toward the party’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.

In an interview with Metro TV, Mr Anyidoho countered the allegations of victimization, asserting that he is the true victim in their ongoing political dispute.

He accused Mahama of orchestrating a campaign to have him removed from his position, revealing that individuals such as Martey Newman, Omani, and Uncle Ato had informed him of Mahama’s suggestion that he should resign.

He also recounted receiving multiple calls from various people urging him to take a leave of absence.

Mr Anyidoho remarked that such a leave would have made it difficult for him to return to his role, suggesting that Mahama’s real intention was to force his removal.

“Mr Newman, I have never said this story but after 12 years to the extent that you people continue to sit down and let Mahama and let boys play the victim card as if I am the bad person, Mr Newman, after 12 years I am mentioning your name, uncle Ato I am mentioning your name because I will not allow them play the victim as if I am the bad person.

“I have always been the victim but for the sake of cohesion I have kept quiet. But after 12 years I will mention the names and let the whole world know that the victim that Mahama is playing is fake. I am the real victim. Martey Newman tells me that John Mahama says that he cannot work with me so I should leave the presidency. At that point I said well Omani has told me, Uncle Ato has told me, Martey Newman you are telling me, so I said please go and tell the president that I am not going on leave and I am not leaving the presidency because we have an election to win and I have to protect the legacy of Atta Mills. Me going on leave was a ploy by Mahama to sack me,” he added.

DRIP initiative was started by Mahama? Tell us JM created the world – Anyidoho to NDC

Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, has criticized the party’s leadership for trying to take credit for President Akufo-Addo’s recently introduced District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP).

Mr Anyidoho’s comments came after the Deputy Minority Whip and NDC MP for Banda, Ahmed Ibrahim, claimed in an Okay FM interview that the DRIP was originally initiated by former President John Mahama in 2016.

Mr Ibrahim argued that Mahama launched the project in July 2016, but its impact was limited due to the merger of the Ministry of Information with the Ministry of Communication.

“This DRIP project was something that President Mahama launched in July 2016. President Mahama’s problem was that he dissolved the Ministry of Information and combined it with the Ministry of Communication. So, there were a lot of things that he did but were not communicated.

Responding on X on August 2, 2024, Koku Anyidoho expressed his dissatisfaction with the NDC’s attempt to credit Mahama for the DRIP.

In one of his X posts, he stated, “Desperation is NOT good ooo!!! Listen to how this JM puppet attempts to steal the DRIP Initiative for his boss but ends up indicting the policy of merging the Information & Communications Ministries.

“This is a BIG indictment on JM that’s why he must have a DEBATE with DMB.”

He added, “What is happening to my NDC? This is shocking!!! They are now saying that the DRIP Initiative was started by JM. In one breath, the NPP Govt is doing nothing; in another breath, all the NPP projects are JM’s projects. Soon, they will say JM created the world. Haba!”

The DRIP initiative aims to provide metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies (MMDAs) with the necessary resources and equipment to rehabilitate and maintain roads in their jurisdictions.

My biggest regret is failing to restore NDC to power – Ofosu Ampofo

Former Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has expressed that one of his biggest regrets is not securing a return to government for the NDC during his time as chairman.

In an interview on Starr Chat with Bola Ray, Dr. Ampofo noted that the election results might have been different had there not been issues like police brutality, killings, and a compromised electoral environment in certain constituencies.

He believes that without these challenges, the NDC could have won a parliamentary majority, which would have significantly shifted the election outcome in their favor.

“I am saying that in the absence of police brutalities and the killing of people, and ensuring that the environment for free, fair, and transparent elections did not happen in those constituencies, we would have won the parliamentary majority. And that would have turned the scale in our favor.

“The results that were achieved, both at the presidential and parliamentary levels. You know, in the history of this country, it’s the first time that a party within four years has been able to improve their total vote by over two million. Yes, under my leadership. We were able to improve our vote from 4.2 to about 6.3 million in four years,” he remarked.

Dr. Ampofo also expressed uncertainty about the final election results of 2020.

He highlighted that under his leadership, the NDC achieved a historic increase in total votes, rising from 4.2 million to about 6.3 million in just four years.

He emphasized that if the NDC had not meticulously compiled their own results, they would have lost several constituencies they eventually won.

Dr. Ampofo cited issues with result tabulation and dissatisfaction with the Electoral Commission’s final results as reasons for seeking legal redress in court.

“There was a lot of back-and-forth, with changes being made multiple times, and all we wanted was for the woman to finally stand trial, to come and explain the reasons to the Supreme Court,” the former National Chairman of the NDC stated.

Sue the opposition if you think ‘Agyapadie document is a conspiracy – Kwame Jantuah

Ghanaian lawyer, and political commentator Kwame Jantuah has dared president Akufo-Addo and the members of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) to sue the Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the president’s claims that the ‘Agyapadie’ document is a conspiracy cooked by the NDC.

This 38-page document, which lacks a recognized author, prominently features the Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, President Nana Akufo-Addo, and his father.

It is alleged to outline a master plan by the Akyem faction within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to dominate various sectors of the country, including the economy, politics, media, judiciary, telecommunications, and banking; a claim AKufo-Addo has outrightly denied calling it a fabrication by the NDC to gain an advantage in the upcoming elections.

However, Lawyer Jantuah has challenged Akufo-Addo to sue the NDC if he thinks this 38 page document is to taint his image and that of his Akyem natives in NPP.

The president should sue the NDC if he is sure they have no knowledge about the document and the validity of its contents.

“If this was conspiracy and it was done by the opposition why haven’t they taken it to court? If they say they know nothing about it and somebody has used Okyehene’s picture and the president’s picture in the document, this is character assasination and they nothing about it why haven’t they taken it to court?

I would have wished the president didn’t bring this up. You know why if the president is saying its conspiracy from opposition, why is it that….; who’s picture is here?

Whose and when you open the document it has whose picture here it is Okyenhene in his youth, President Nana Addo and JB Danquah” he quizzed.

Ghana’s voter register doesn’t serve its purpose – Dr Omane Boamah

The Director of IT and Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has demanded a thorough audit of Ghana’s voter register, labeling it as “sick and unfit for purpose.”

In an interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, on Friday, Dr. Boamah pointed out major flaws uncovered during the NDC’s new “voter profiling” exercise.

“Since we started, within a few hours, out of about 38,000 plus people profiled at the polling station level, there were about 4,000 deaths,” he revealed.

This initiative was designed to evaluate the current state of the voter register.

Dr. Boamah highlighted that these results suggest the Electoral Commission (EC) is unable to independently identify deceased individuals on the register.

He criticized the current practice of simply exhibiting the register, calling it inadequate to address the problem.

“It is people who will give EC the information backed with evidence,” he said.

He urged for a detailed audit to correct these discrepancies, asserting that “a proper audit shouldn’t take more than two weeks.

“You don’t need more than two weeks to audit the register, so if they want, they can use the exhibition as an excuse and technical audit at the same time.”

  • Be careful! I see NPP taking over 19 seats from you – Prophet Kusi Boateng to NDC

Be careful! I see NPP taking over 19 seats from you – Prophet Kusi Boateng to NDC

Prophet Victor Kusi Boateng of Power Chapel Worldwide has unveiled a prophecy regarding the 2024 elections, forecasting a sequence of events from December 7 to December 9.

In a sermon to his congregation on Sunday, July 28, 2024, Prophet Kusi Boateng predicted that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, alongside Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, his vice-presidential pick, will secure victory in the election.

He stated that the vote counting and announcement will stretch into December 9, following the December 7 voting day.

“And the result is obvious. Things are difficult, I know that there are two people coming but the Lord has told me that by the 9th of December, His Excellency Dr Mahamudu Bawumia shall be crowned the president of Ghana,” he said.

The prophet also warned of heightened tensions and potential protests following the election results.

He described how initial protests will involve about 1,000 people on the first day, with a significant drop in participation on the second day, leading to a return to calm.

“The result will come on the 9th. Some people will try to cause mayhem so that people shall die and interestingly, they will call people on the street and on the first day only 1000 people will show up, no one will show up on the second day and there shall be peace.”

    Potential Shifts in Parliamentary Seats

Prophet Kusi Boateng forecasted that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) might lose up to 24 parliamentary seats, while the NPP could also face losses if they are not careful. He cautioned that while the NPP might gain up to 24 seats from the NDC, they must remain vigilant.

    Advice to the Youth

The prophet advised Ghanaian youth against emigration despite current economic difficulties, expressing confidence in the country’s imminent progress. He reassured them of a forthcoming period of unprecedented development in the next seven years.

“The people that they say are my party members, NPP people, if they don’t take care, they will lose almost 7 to 10 seats but then if NDC also doesn’t take care, NPP will take over between 19 to 24 seats from them. The election is on the 7th, and on the 8th the result will not come, everybody shall be jittery.

“…in the next 7 years, this nation is going to experience an acceleration of advancement that it has never experienced in the past 50 and 60 years. Young men and women, don’t run away from this country. God is going to visit us one more time,” he stated.

Trust NDC to restore Ghana’s economy – Prof Opoku-Agyemang to Ghanaians

Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the vice-presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and running mate to John Dramani Mahama, has vowed that the party will rejuvenate Ghana’s economy if they win the upcoming election.

She pointed out the urgent need for economic recovery, given the decline experienced under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by Nana Akufo-Addo.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang outlined the NDC’s plan to implement a 24-hour economy policy designed to revitalize the nation.

This policy is a key part of the party’s strategy to address and correct the economic issues caused by the current administration.

The proposed 24-hour economy will benefit businesses with tax incentives, reduced tariffs, and improved productivity. Additionally, the policy’s job shift system aims to generate more job opportunities and enhance financial stability for workers and households.

In her address to the Chiefs at Denkyira Bibianiha in the Upper Denkyira East constituency, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang encouraged all sectors to engage actively with the forthcoming 24-hour economy initiative.

“The NDC will restore hope and rebuild the economy to meet the aspirations of Ghanaians. We have done it before, and you can trust us to do it again for you,” she said.

Times are hard, be patient with your husbands – Prof Opoku-Agyemang to traders

The NDC’s vice-presidential candidate, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has urged women, especially those in trading, to be patient with their husbands who may be struggling to provide financial support due to economic challenges.

During her regional tour, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang spoke to market women in Dunkwa Mfoum, Central Region.

She recognized the economic difficulties faced by Ghanaians, particularly traders and small business owners, and reassured them that the NDC is aware of these issues.

She announced that the next NDC administration intends to establish the Women’s Development Bank, which will offer women easier access to credit without the need for collateral or high interest rates.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasized that the Women’s Development Bank is part of a broader set of measures the NDC plans to implement to improve women’s lives in Ghana. She projected that over one million women would benefit from this initiative, which aims to provide loans to bolster their businesses and enhance their economic opportunities.

“Most of the time, when you are unable to get credit from the financial institutions to support your trade, you turn to your husbands for help, but they cannot help because they are either out of jobs or their businesses are not doing well due to the economic difficulties in the country.”

“Be patient with them because it is not their fault. The poor economic management has created all this hardship,” she said.

  • NPP MP for Gushegu may lose his seat in December polls – Global InfoAnalytics

A new poll by Global Info Analytics suggests that Hassan Tampuli, the current Member of Parliament for Gushegu and Deputy Minister of Transport, could face a defeat in the upcoming 2024 Parliamentary elections.

According to the poll, Yussif Malimali of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is leading with 56.5% of the vote, while Tampuli is behind with 41.9%.

The survey highlights a significant shift, with 12% of voters who supported Tampuli in 2020 now backing Malimali. Additionally, 75% of new voters, including those who did not participate in the last election, are supporting Malimali.

Executive Director of Global Info Analytics, Mussa Dankwa, discussed the findings on Channel One TV’s Citiuation Room and suggested that Tampuli should focus on addressing his campaign’s weaknesses, such as understanding voter demographics and key issues.

Dankwa noted “In the questionnaire, we asked voters, ‘Who did you vote for in the last parliamentary election?’ So you have those who said Malimali, those who said Tampuli. Some said they didn’t vote and others said they would not disclose how they voted. So we looked at those who said they voted for Tampuli in 2020. We realised that twelve per cent of them had switched their votes for Malimali.”

“Among those who said they didn’t vote in the last election which includes older voters and first-time voters, largely, 75% of them are voting for the NDC candidate, which is Malimali.”

  • “What has Bawumia said that shows he is a liar” – Owusu Bempah dares NDC

“What has Bawumia said that shows he is a liar” – Owusu Bempah dares NDC

Deputy Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Owusu-Bempah, has dared the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to identify any falsehood uttered by NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia since the start of his political career.

Owusu-Bempah accused the NDC of labeling Vice President Bawumia as a liar and has challenged them to substantiate their claims. He asserted that every economic promise made by Dr. Bawumia has been fulfilled, dismissing the NDC’s attempts to discredit him as futile.

“What has Bawumia said that shows he is a liar? What the NDC is doing is ‘gobelien’ propaganda, it means to tell a lie, continue to tell a lie and it will be the truth.

“What has Bawumia said that has not come to pass that the NDC claims he is a liar? We are daring the NDC to come out and tell us, through his political career, what Bawumia said he would do that he didn’t,” 3news.com quoted him to have said in an interview on August 1, 2024.

It is worth noting that Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the NDC, dismissed the idea of a presidential debate between his party’s flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

In an interview with Okay FM on Monday, July 22, 2024, Asiedu Nketiah stated that such a debate was unnecessary.

He suggested that the vice president, who had also called for the debate, should instead concentrate on addressing his own past records and statements made while he was in opposition, as Ghanaians are now holding him accountable.

He took a swipe at Dr Bawumia, saying that if he (the vice president) is asked to defend his “We’ve arrested that dollar and given the key to the IGP” statement, he would say that the IGP they gave the key to is no more in office.

“Do you know what he would be coming to say? He would say that the IGP who had the key to the arrested dollar has been fired and that is why the cedi is depreciating. Are these issues what we will be debating?

“The important thing is that he would go and debate his record. Because his record has come seriously under fire. He has enough debating to do by himself. So, he should go for his record and debate the issues in it, the elections would be done before he even finishes,” the NDC national chairman said in Twi.

He also indicated that Dr Bawumia can also use the time for the debate to answer the 170 questions he asked the late former Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur when he was in opposition.

“He should take his marking scheme for the 170 questions that tell us how it applies to the questions he asked. And he should also start being truthful,” he added.

  • Reflect on ‘Agyapadie’ document, stop blaming others – NDC tells Akufo-Addo

Reflect on ‘Agyapadie’ document, stop blaming others – NDC tells Akufo-Addo

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has denied President Akufo-Addo’s claims that his political rivals are running a concerted misinformation and disinformation campaign against him and his party.

During the Ghana Report Summit, themed ‘Dealing with Misinformation and Disinformation in the Upcoming Election’, President Akufo-Addo referred to the ‘Agyapadie’ document, alleging a scheme to damage his reputation before the elections.

In response, Dr. Omane Boamah, the NDC’s Director of Elections, firmly rejected these allegations at the event.

Dr. Boamah contended that the opposition is not involved in such actions, suggesting instead that the President should scrutinize the contents of the “Agyapadie” document.

He questioned the existence of a document that accurately predicts the President’s actions, implying that it might be based on observed behavior. Dr. Boamah stressed that rather than accusing the opposition, the President should reflect on why his administration has seemingly realized the negative predictions within the document.

“How come I campaigned to protect the public purse? How come I campaigned to develop Ghana? Yet this document is indicating that I came only for my people and for my clan? If I were the president, I’d be more concerned,” he emphasized.

Dr. Boamah criticized the President for repeatedly blaming the NDC for various issues, including the country’s economic difficulties.

He highlighted that with only four months left in office, such accusations are untimely.

Additionally, Dr. Boamah called on President Akufo-Addo to demonstrate a willingness to transfer power to the winner of the December 7 presidential elections.

He also urged the President to refrain from implying he would only hand over to his vice president and NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

NDC’s campaign launch is a sign of desperation – NPP

Former Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan has described the National Campaign Launch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Tamale as a reaction driven by “panic”.

Mr Duncan argues that the NDC’s anxiety stems from the increasing support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the northern regions, attributed to the numerous development projects under President Akufo-Addo’s administration.

In an interview on Peace FM on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, Duncan suggested that the NDC’s event in Tamale was an attempt to counteract the growing popularity of NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who has been drawing large crowds to his constituency campaigns in the north.

He stated, “Everyone who is being truthful would tell you that the NDC event that took place in Tamale on Saturday was a panic reaction. If you compare the number of people who attended the NDC’s National Campaign Launch and its organization to the constituency-by-constituency campaign of Bawumia, no one would tell you that there is great fear in the NDC and in John Dramani Mahama.

“This is why they went to hold the event we saw in Tamale on Saturday,” he said in Twi.

Duncan also criticized the NDC for failing to present clear policy alternatives during their campaign launch.

He noted that while the NDC’s flagbearer promised not to mislead Ghanaians, there were no specific policy proposals outlined to address the needs of the citizens.

Prof Opoku-Agyemang is a misfit for politics – Allotey Jacobs

The former Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Allotey Jacobs, has expressed strong criticism of Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the party’s running mate.

Mr Jacobs contends that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang lacks the essential qualities of a seasoned politician.

During a discussion on Peace FM, Mr Jacobs remarked that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s performance at the NDC’s campaign launch in Tamale revealed her struggle to transition from an academic to a political role.

He argued that her public speaking was not suited for a political platform.

“One is born with the ability to speak on political platform, that art cannot be learnt. Among the persons who spoke during the NDC campaign launch, the only person who could rap the crowd was former President John Mahama. The rest do not know how to speak on political platforms. The running mate should not have been allowed to speak.

“I respect that woman a lot but she is not a politician. She is a square peg in a round hole, I am telling you the truth. She portrayed herself as a lecturer on a political platform speaking about morale issues. It was not good,” he said.

The NDC launched its campaign on July 27, 2024, aiming to challenge the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and address the country’s economic difficulties in the upcoming December 7 elections.

NPP, NDC may be unwilling to address 2024 electoral concerns in court – Kan Dapaah

National Security Minister Albert Kan Dapaah has warned that the 2024 elections may reveal a reluctance from the two major political parties, New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) to seek judicial redress for electoral disputes.

Addressing a forum on violent extremism and peace, Kan Dapaah highlighted a troubling trend: many leading political figures are expressing skepticism about the judiciary’s ability to handle election-related grievances effectively.

“The 2024 general elections will certainly test the strength of our democracy, our ability to prevent electoral violence given the high stakes involved where the two major political parties appear convinced about their prospects of emerging victorious. That obviously creates a security challenge for me.

“We may for the first time experience a situation where none of the major political parties will be willing to explore the courts to address their grievances. I have heard some senior people in the political space saying that they have lost faith in the court’s ability to address their concerns when it comes to elections,” Kan Dapaah said.

He urged for a more transparent electoral system to restore confidence among political players and the public.

In a related statement, Reverend Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, advised politicians to prioritize national peace over personal ambitions.

“Our advice and our suggestion goes first and foremost to those who are vying for power, please if you lose accept it,” he said.

The 2024 flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has presented his running mate, Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, to the chiefs of the Central Region.

The introduction took place on Tuesday, July 30, at the regional House of Chiefs.

At the event, Mahama highlighted Prof Opoku-Agyemang’s remarkable qualities and extensive experience, emphasizing her significant contributions as the former Minister of Education.

He praised her dedication to public service and her unwavering commitment to improving the education sector.

“Prof Naana Jane is a leader who possesses high moral values, she is incorruptible,” Mahama stated.

“All through her service to Ghana she remained committed and patriotic, she comes with wisdom, tact, integrity and decades of experience to the vice presidential office.”

He underscored that her inclusion as his running mate would strengthen the effectiveness of the vice presidency if the NDC wins the upcoming elections.

The introduction aimed to garner support from the regional chiefs and showcase the strength of the NDC’s leadership team.

Former Minister of Transport, Mike Hammah, has urged tricycle (Pragyia) operators to support John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming presidential election.

Mr Hammah promised that under an NDC administration, tricycle operations would be legalized and regulated.

Speaking at the launch of the Central Regional Chapter and executives of the National Union of Tricycle Operators of Ghana in Kasoa, Mr Hammah outlined the NDC’s plan to formalize tricycle services.

He assured that Mahama’s government would introduce legislation to govern their use and provide necessary training for operators.

Hammah emphasized that tricycles have become an essential part of transportation in Ghana, and only a leader who prioritizes youth and employment, like Mahama, can bring about the needed changes.

The National Secretary of Tricycle Operators in Ghana, Hamza Hafiz, echoed Hammah’s sentiments, noting that tricycles have significantly contributed to reducing unemployment and crime, particularly in Kasoa.

Mr Hafiz called on the government to officially recognize and support tricycles as a vital mode of transport, especially in northern regions.

“Aside from that, if the government could allow importing them into the country, then it’s just fair that we are allowed to operate and our activities regulated.”

46 promises of Mahama he didn’t fulfil after winning 2012 elections – Report

Former President John Mahama’s past unfulfilled “lavish campaign promises” have resurfaced following the official launch of his 2024 presidential campaign over the weekend.

Mahama, who served as Vice President from 2009 to 2012 and President from 2012 to 2017, is making another attempt to regain the presidency after losing in 2016 and failing to win in 2020.

Despite the grand promises made during his campaign launch, Mahama’s track record of unfulfilled promises has come under scrutiny.

Abdul Razak Yando, a political scientist, questioned Mahama’s sincerity in an open article copied to Ghanaguardian.com.

Yando highlighted Mahama’s history of making numerous political promises without delivering on them when in office, casting doubt on his current campaign commitments.

“As Mahama has launched his campaign, laced with promises, it is important to interrogate how he fared the last time heade juicy promises to Ghanaians and was given the opportunity to lead the country between 2012 and 2016,” Abdul Razak Yando wrote.

“It is important for questions to be asked of the former President, especially for young voters who have just turned 18 years, to know how the only former President who will be on the ballot in the 2024 elections, performed when they were 12 years, as far as some major promises he made to the country are concerned.”

” Unfortunately, a detailed analysis of former President Mahama’s 2012 Manifesto, revealed that the former President, after being elected as President, did not fulfil many lavish promises,” continued the political analyst.

“As many as 46 big promises made by John Mahama during the 2012 elections were not fulfilled after Ghanaians voted for him as President,” he said in the article, and provided a list of all the 46 failed promises.

EXPOSING 46 ‘CAMPAIGN LIES’ OF JOHN MAHAMA AS PRESIDENT, FOLLOWING THE LAUNCH OF ANOTHER CAMPAIGN

By Abdul Razak Yando (Political Scientist)

Former President John Dramani Mahama will be appearing as Presidential Candidate for the NDC, once again, in December 2024, as Ghana goes to the polls to choose a President.

Mahama, following the completion of late President Mills’ remaining six months as President, as well as his own full term from 2013 to 2017, will be the only former President on the ballot, seeking to be voted for again as President.

What this means is that Mahama, as a former President who has led this country before, has a history and a record as President, as far as campaign promises and delivering those promises are concerned.

Prior to his election in 2012 as President, Mahama made promises and also presented a manifesto to the people of Ghana, titled “advancing the better Ghana agenda,” to woo Ghanaians to vote for him.

Majority of Ghanaians, perhaps, were wooed by the sweet promises of John Mahama in 2012 and voted for him to be Ghana’s 4th President of the 4th Republic from 2012 to 2017.

Last Saturday in Tamale, the former President launched another campaign, seeking to win the votes of Ghanaians to return to the Presidency, after he lost power in 2016 and failed at the polls again in 2020. The campaign launch, unsurprisingly, was full of yet another promises by the former President and his party officials, many of whom served in his erstwhile government.

As Mahama has launched his campaign, laced with promises, it is important to interrogate how he fared the last time he made juicy promises to Ghanaians and was given the opportunity to lead the country between 2012 and 2017.

It is important for questions to be asked of the former President, especially for young voters who have just turned 18 years and are eligible to vote, to know how the only former President who will be on the ballot in the 2024 elections, performed when they were 12 years, as far as some major promises he made to the country are concerned.

To intensely interrogate John Mahama’s history on making promises and fulfilling same or otherwise, is essential in taking what he is promising now seriously or not.

Unfortunately, a detailed analysis of former President Mahama’s 2012 Manifesto, revealed that the former President, after being elected as President, did not fulfil many lavish promises he made to the people of Ghana in many sectors.

As many as 46 major promises made by John Mahama during the 2012 elections were not fulfilled after Ghanaians voted for him as President.

Below are the 46 unfulfilled promises by John Mahama as President of Ghana. You may call them lies or deception by Mahama, but the fact is that he made these lavish promises, but he failed to fulfill or achieve them as President.

Interestingly, as President, Mahama had 4 years, or 1460 days to fulfill these promises, but he could not, until he heavily lost the 2016 election.

Here they are, the promises, as contained in the 2012 NDC Manifesto, which is publicly available for scrutiny.

No new or renovated airport is a product of NPP’s initiatives – NDC

The Minority Chief Whip, has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Governs Agbodza, has not been responsible for initiating any new airport projects in Ghana.

In an interview with TV3 in Tamale during the NDC’s campaign launch on July 27, 2024, Agbodza made it clear that the current NPP administration cannot claim credit for any new or rehabilitated airports in the country.

He emphasized that the expansion and development of airports currently underway were started by the previous Mahama administration and completed by the NPP.

“There is no airport in Ghana that is the brainchild of the NPP. President Mahama rehabilitated Kotoka Terminal 2, and Terminal 3 was entirely new under his administration. The phases of Kumasi Airport that are now completed were also started during Mahama’s tenure and finished by the NPP.”

Agbodza explained that the vision for these airports did not originate with the NPP. For example, Tamale Airport, which features the longest runway in Ghana, was planned long before the NPP’s tenure.

He also underscored the importance of the Northern Region for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“Our party has historically received tremendous support from this region. We have prioritized development efforts here whenever in power, focusing on infrastructure such as roads and airports, as well as critical interventions in water supply and agriculture. Despite attempts by our opponents to distract us, we remain steadfast in delivering our message and focusing on the needs of the people,” he said.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to unveil its manifesto in the Central region this August.

The manifesto will outline the party’s proposed policies for implementation if they win the December 7 elections.

At the campaign launch in Tamale, NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama committed to setting up a women’s development bank to support female entrepreneurs.

He also promised to eliminate the double-track system in senior high schools, allowing all students to attend school simultaneously.

Furthermore, Mahama pledged to eradicate the use of schools under trees, echoing initiatives started by late President Prof. Mills, and to build hostels on tertiary institutions’ lands to reduce student commuting hazards.

“We will also remove schools under trees just like Prof Mills [late president] started, and for tertiary students, a portion of school lands will be used to build hostels to prevent students from travelling to and fro with all the dangers it comes with.”

NDC to monitor December elections closely – Mahama

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama, has announced that the party will vigilantly oversee every stage of the 2024 general election, from the lead-up to the aftermath.

He emphasized that the NDC is committed to thoroughly scrutinizing all aspects to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.

“I wish to assure all the people of Ghana, who intend to vote for the National Democratic Government (NDC), that we will protect every single vote,” Former President John Mahama, Flagbearer of the party, said on Saturday.

He mentioned that the party would leverage the tools available within the electoral process to ensure that its members oversee the December elections for transparent results.

Former President Mahama noted that the NDC had faced challenges with the Electoral Commission (EC) in past elections.

Nevertheless, he said the party had remained relatively composed, extending the EC the benefit of the doubt.

During the launch of the NDC’s 2024 election campaign in Tamale, the Flagbearer declared that no party member would rest until the votes were counted.

“Until all the ballots have been counted, none of us will sleep for 48 hours,” he said.

“This is an election like no other, and if you say you are NDC, you better get prepared. Everybody is going to volunteer.”

The former President pointed out that according to EC regulations, once ballot counting is finished and the pink sheets are completed, these sheets should be displayed on a wall at the polling station.

In light of this, he advised NDC polling station officials and members to ensure that returning officers post copies of the pink sheets on the walls of polling stations.

He also urged party supporters to photograph the pink sheets to serve as evidence for future reference.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has called on party members to stay alert until the Electoral Commission (EC) has counted all ballots in the 2024 general elections.

During the NDC’s campaign launch in Tamale on Saturday, July 27, Mahama emphasized the need for supporters to be vigilant in guarding the ballot boxes on election day.

He stressed that every aspect of the election process would be scrutinized to guard against any potential bias towards the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“Everybody needs to prepare, we’re not going to sleep for 48 hours until all the ballots have been counted. None of us is going to sleep for 48 hours until all the ballots have been counted.”

“And I wish to assure all Ghanaians who intend to vote for the NDC, I can promise you that we will protect every single vote.

2024 Elections: Know your worth, don’t allow yourself to be bought – Zanetor to NDC agents

Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has warned all National Democratic Congress (NDC) agents against accepting bribes to abandon their election monitoring duties, which could facilitate fraudulent activities.

She stressed the importance of the NDC securing a victory to safeguard Ghana’s democracy, emphasizing the necessity of protecting the ballot.

Agyeman-Rawlings criticized the Akufo-Addo administration as a failure and accused the government of “blatant corruption.”

“Corruption has been rampant under this government,” she stated during the NDC’s 2024 campaign launch in Tamale on Saturday, July 27.

“Today we promise John Mahama that we will set the bar high with zero tolerance with respect to corruption. The people of Ghana hold NDC to the highest standards

“We must hold onto principles that can’t be bought with money, we must make sure none of our agents is be bought,” she said.

“Let’s protect the ballot boxes., do not allow yourself to be misled by the money people will bring your way,” she said.

Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), asserted that the 2024 general election will bring about a change in government.

He believes that Ghanaians will vote out the New Patriotic Party (NPP) due to the “incompetent Akufo-Addo administration.”

“Change is coming, are you ready for change,” he said during the campaign launch of the NDC in Tamale on Saturday, July 27.

“The victory of the NDC is coming again,” he stressed.

The campaign Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Professor Joshua Alabi also expressed optimism that Ghanaians will vote for the NDC in this year’s elections.
He says that the people are wide awake and will not be decided by the governing NPP.

“The people are very awake and they have seen the truth,” he told TV3’s Komla Klutse in Tamale during the NDC’s 2024 campaign launch at the Jubilee Park.

Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, a member of the NDC’s manifesto committee, stated that the party aims to secure 14 out of the 18 seats in the Northern Region.

He elaborated that while the Volta Region remains the NDC’s stronghold, the Northern Region is the driving force behind the party’s momentum.

Speaking in an interview with TV3’s Mawuena Egbeta in Tamale on the sidelines of the campaign launch, the former Minister of Youth and Sports said: “The idea is that we are going to win 14 seats out of the 18 seats in 2024.”

He further criticized the Akufo-Addo for economic mismanagement.

The mismanagement of the economy, he said, will cause Ghanains to vote for the NDC.

“People have seen the abysmal performance every single sector of the economy is in a mess so the people have through,” he said.

National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has urged the Inspector General of Police and the Chief of Defense Staff to uphold their integrity and remain impartial amid potential pressure from President Akufo-Addo.

During the NDC’s campaign launch in Tamale on Saturday, July 27, 2024, Asiedu Nketia encouraged the IGP to stay resolute and act justly in the run-up to the 2024 general elections, despite any external pressures.

He underscored the critical importance of the security forces maintaining independence and neutrality, especially as the 2024 general elections approach.

“My message to the IGP and the Chief of Defense Staff is simple, the day you were commissioned into leadership of our security services, you swore an oath to protect the interest of Ghanaians. You didn’t swear to protect the interest of any regime that is in power for the time being.

We know you’re working under undue pressure, but, please you can absorb that pressure and do the right thing for the next four months.

REMARKS BY THE MINORITY LEADER, HON. CASSIEL ATO FORSON, (PhD) @ THE NDC CAMPAIGN LAUNCH IN TAMALE ON SATURDAY, 27TH JULY, 2024

    Greetings in Dagbani

Your Excellency John Mahama, leader and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)

    Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Running Mate to incoming President Mahama;

    Fellow Akatamansonians

On behalf of the NDC Minority Caucus inParliament, I bring you very warm greetings

Today, the great NDC is officially launching our campaign and our forward march to victory 2024

    Comrades,

our country is in a mess
    a gargantuan mess
    a big fat mess!
In fact, Ghana is in trouble!

This Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government has been a monumental failure

It has been almost eight (8) years of:

    Lies, lies and more lies

    Impunity and lawlessness

    Recklessness and cluelessness

    No Job and Joblessness

    No hope and Hopelessness

    Hardships, misery and Ahokyer3

    Tax, Taxes and more Taxes

    Borrowing, more borrowing and over-borrowing

Illegal printing of money and more illegal printing of money at the Bank of Ghana

    Wastage

    Non-performance
It has been almost eight (8) years of:

    Poor governance

    Massive uncontrolled corruption

    State capture

    Family and friends

    Arrogance of power

I HAVE HEARD SOME GHANAIANS SAY,THEY ARE NOT INTERESTED IN POLITICS AND THAT THEY ARE NOT GOING TO VOTE

I bet, you will have a change of mind if you are aware that:

11.5 million Ghanaians, representing 33.3% of ourpeople, have been thrown into extreme poverty due to the bad policies of President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Alhaji Bawumia

I bet, you will have a change of mind if you are aware that:

8.4 million Ghanaians representing 24.5% of our people went a day without food in 2023, according to Ghana Statistical Service

2 million Ghanaians are facing acute food and nutrition insecurity, according to the World Bank

35% of our employable youth are unemployed (the highest in the Fourth Republic)

1.9 million of our youth are idle with no work, no training and no education, according to the Ghana Statistical Service

Out of Ghana’s population of 33 million, about 22million are jobless

This means 2 out of every 3 Ghanaians are jobless

Another 4.5 million of our people have completelygiven up on their search for jobs out of frustration

50% of our doctors are now working abroad due to poor working conditions, says the Ghana Human Development report
I bet, you will have a change of mind if you are aware that:

This government borrowed and overborrowed and have made Ghana bankrupt

Ghana is so broke that the country cannot repay its debt.

Even pensioners were made to suffer crude and painful haircuts

The Bank of Ghana is now bankrupt and policy insolvent

    Ghana’s cocoa sector has collapsed

And almost all state-owned enterprises are recording huge losses and collapsing

With this poor scorecard of this Akufo-Addo/ Bawumia government, my fellow countrymen and women:

This is a call to duty!

    Don’t sit on the fence!

We owe Ghana a joint effort and communal labour to rescue and reset our dear country

“WALAAHI, WE NEED TO RESCUE OURCOUNTRY”!

“TOUCH WOOD, WE WILL RESET GHANA”!

Our forward march to victory requires not only hard work but also unity, togetherness, purposefulness, concerted effort and extreme vigilance, among others

Come out in your numbers and vote John Mahama and NDC Parliamentary candidates on 7thDecember, 2024

    I thank you all.
