Mahama is not a better option – NPP

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Bosome Freho Constituency, Nana Kwame Asafo Adjei Aryeh, has warned Ghanaians against voting for the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming December polls.

about the risks of electing a previously unsuccessful government.

He emphasized the importance of voters considering candidates’ track records before casting their ballots.

Speaking on the Ghanakoma morning show on Akoma 87.9 FM in Kumasi on July 10, alongside Sir John, he clarified that raising concerns about a candidate’s potential failures is not motivated by malice but serves as a necessary reminder based on past experiences.

Mr. Asafo Adjei highlighted that the alternative to the current government is “alarming” and “worse.”

“We are going into a competition and in that competition, that yesterday’s failure is the one coming up to say that you see they could not perform, so give me the chance.”

“It’s important to remind those who are going to take the decision that, this man who claims that, give me the chance cannot do it better. For that one, we need to make that point clear. We can no longer keep quiet. It doesn’t mean that if we say so, we are saying so in bad faith.”

“It is important that you remind the decision makers that the alternative is scary. The alternative is worse,” he said.

He praised the current NPP government’s achievements across various sectors compared to the previous NDC administration.

Mr. Asafo Adjei expressed confidence in his efforts to significantly increase votes for the NPP in the Bosome Freho Constituency to over 85% in the 2024 general elections.

NDC MPs give Police notice of #OccupyBoGProtest slated for July 30

The Minority caucus in Parliament has formally notified the Ghana Police Service of their intention to stage a demonstration demanding the resignation of Dr. Ernest Addison, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), along with his two deputies.

Mahama Ayariga, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, conveyed this notification through a letter to the Greater Accra Regional Police command.

In his correspondence, Mr. Ayariga emphasized the caucus’s strong stance on not only seeking the resignation of the Governor and his deputies but also advocating for the removal of all current members of the BoG’s board.

The protest is slated for Tuesday, July 30, 2024, commencing at 8 am and concluding by 6 pm in Accra, specifically within the Greater Accra Region.

Participants will gather at Obra Spot, located at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, and will march through Adabraka towards Kingsway, ultimately ending their demonstration at the frontage of the Bank of Ghana headquarters.

A key issue driving the Minority caucus’s action is the ongoing construction of the BoG’s new head office in North Ridge, which has sparked considerable concern within the caucus. This has prompted them to organize a peaceful assembly and protest to voice their dissent.

Mahama can never become Ghana’s president again – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has urged Ghanaians to refrain from voting for the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), former President John Dramani Mahama, in the upcoming December 7, 2024 elections.

Addressing attendees at the unveiling of the vice-presidential candidate of his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, in Kumasi on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, Akufo-Addo pointed out that Mahama is the only president in Ghana’s Fourth Republic to have been removed from office after just one term.

He emphasized that Mahama’s tenure was marked by poor performance and asserted that allowing him back into office would be detrimental.

“Let us remember one thing, the person we are contesting against – the leader of the NDC – since the inception of the fourth republic (1992), General Rawlings was president for two successive terms; John Agyekum Kufuor, two successive terms; Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, two successive terms; he (Mahama) is the only person who got one term.

“And he is the same person saying that we should make him president again,” the president said in Twi.

He added, “Someone we removed from power without any effort now wants us to bring him back to the presidency; it is not going to happen. We are not taking him back today, we are not taking him back tomorrow.”

Akufo-Addo also criticized Mahama for portraying himself as if he has never held power before.

“He speaks as if we don’t know him. Does he have anything new to offer? We have seen the works of his hands before and that is why we removed him. He is not good enough for the job.”

Keep taking credit for Free SHS initiation, God is watching you – Akufo-Addo to Mahama

President Akufo-Addo has refuted former President, John Dramani Mahama’s assertion that he initiated the free Senior High School (SHS) policy, dismissing it as “ridiculous.”

He pointed out past criticisms from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) leadership regarding the policy’s feasibility.

Speaking at the official unveiling of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer’s running mate for the 2024 elections in Kumasi on July 9, 2024, Akufo-Addo emphasized that the NDC is not a credible alternative for Ghanaians.

“Today, the free Senior High School, the same people that criticized it and said all sorts of things about it, are claiming that they implemented it. We will take it like that,” Akufo-Addo said.

“We will take it like that because as God is alive, He is not asleep.”

Akufo-Addo criticized Mahama for what he sees as a reversal on the policy.

“This leader criticized us when we said we were going to implement the Free SHS policy. Now that Ghanaians have accepted the policy, he is saying he is the one who introduced Free SHS. Have you ever heard such a thing?”

He continued, “He indeed said that we are forgetful people. Will we forget this too? Today, the leader of the NDC claims he is the one who introduced Free SHS.

“If he introduced the policy, why did he criticize us when we intended to introduce it? He said if he had 2 billion cedis, he would not invest it in free education.”

In a media engagement on July 7, 2024, Mahama denied allegations that he opposed free SHS, stating that as the originator of progressive free SHS, he supported measures to enhance its benefits.

“I support any bill that will improve our education to make it sustainable, to afford quality education for our children. So yes, any bill that would achieve this is something that I will support,” Mahama stated.

We have one million ways to win 2024 elections – NPP to NDC

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Bosiako, (Chairman Wontumi) has revealed that the party has devised over one million strategies to ensure victory in the December elections.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony of the NPP’s running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, Chairman Wontumi conveyed his strong belief in the party’s ability to win the upcoming elections and break the ‘8’.

Chairman Wontumi stressed that the party is ready to utilize “one million ways” to secure a win and is prepared to employ every possible method to achieve victory.

The outspoken politician noted that the NPP has completed its internal elections and is now entirely focused on winning the 2024 elections.

Reflecting on the 2008 elections, Chairman Wontumi asserted that the NDC will not be able to prevent the NPP from achieving victory this time around.

He emphasized the party’s preparedness and determination to overcome any challenges posed by their political opponents.

During the ceremony, Chairman Wontumi highlighted the significance of unity and coordination within the party. He mentioned that selecting Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the running mate has further strengthened the party’s resolve to win.

Furthermore, Chairman Wontumi lauded Dr. Prempeh’s credentials and his appeal to the grassroots, which he believes will greatly contribute to the NPP’s success in the elections. He urged all party members and supporters to rally behind their candidates and work tirelessly for a resounding victory.

“We know how to win the elections. NPP, we have finished from polling stations. We have finished MPs, the president and now the running mate, we have finished every internal election in the NPP. Now what is left is winning the 2024 elections.

“They can’t stop us. 2008 they delayed us. 2024 elections, NDC you cannot stop us, we are winning. It is possible. Tell the NDC that we have one million ways to win the 2024 elections and we are ready,” he stated.

Mahama is matured, he has solutions to Ghana’s woes – NDC MP

Former Member of Parliament for Lower Manya Krobo, Michael Teye Nyaunu, has voiced his support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.

He emphasized that Mahama’s political maturity will greatly benefit Ghana if he becomes President again.

In an interview with the media, Teye Nyaunu remarked, “He [Mahama] has learned a lot. The way he was delivering extemporaneously shows that he is a man with a firm grasp on leadership and knows how to navigate the complexities of governance. Now, he is mature. Mahama is truly mature now, and if we have him as President, I have no doubts or qualms. I believe the second coming of Mahama will be quite advantageous to the nation.”

Mr Nyaunu, who served in Parliament for 16 years since his first election in 1996, is known for his critical stance towards members of his own party, including its leadership.

He was suspended by the NDC in the Lower Manya Krobo constituency for misconduct along with three other party members.

He also ran as an independent parliamentary candidate in the 2012 elections but later rejoined the NDC.

Despite his past criticisms of Mahama, Mr Nyaunu now commends the former President’s growth and experience in politics.

He described the Mahama-Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang ticket as superior and more trustworthy than the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidates, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

NDC’s downfall in 2016 was due to ‘dumsor’ but we’ve learnt our lessons – Joyce Bawah

Former President John Mahama’s spokesperson, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has openly acknowledged the significant electoral setback caused by the prolonged power outages, commonly referred to as ‘dumsor,’ during Mahama’s tenure.

Speaking on Channel One TV, Mogtari admitted that the energy crisis had a detrimental impact on their fortunes in the 2016 general elections.

“In 2016, one of our biggest misfortunes was the fact that we had these crippling power outages,” Mogtari acknowledged.

Contrary to claims of exploiting the crisis for political gain, Mogtari clarified that Mahama’s administration focused on finding long-term solutions to the energy crisis, rather than using it as a tool for political advantage.

She explained that despite earnest efforts, resolving the persistent power outages proved to be a formidable challenge for the administration.

She attributed the severity of the crisis to changing rain patterns and climate issues affecting the Akosombo Dam, a crucial energy source for Ghana.

Reflecting on lessons learned, Madam Mogtari underscored Mahama’s commitment to addressing the energy crisis substantively if given another opportunity to lead.

She expressed confidence in Mahama’s leadership approach, highlighting his dedication to resolving critical issues rather than exploiting them politically.

Bawumia’s campaign will collapse if he tries a ‘meet the press’ session – Osei Akoto

A former National Organizer hopeful of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Henry Osei Akoto, has challenged the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to participate in a ‘meet the press’ session with Ghanaian media.

In a statement shared on Monday, July 8, 2024, Osei Akoto asserted that Vice President Bawumia would avoid such an engagement because it could jeopardize his campaign.

“If Bawumia tries any ‘meet the press’, his campaign will collapse. He won’t dare,” he wrote.

Osei Akoto’s comments came following a press engagement by former President John Dramani Mahama, the NDC flagbearer, on Sunday, July 7, 2024.

During this event, Mahama outlined his proposed policies, including social intervention programs and measures to tackle corruption, aimed at revitalizing Ghana’s development trajectory.

Below are the 20 key takeaways from the media engagement:

    1. The 24-hour economy policy will increase the local production of goods for import substitution, exports, and create decent well-paying jobs for the youth.
    2. My government will scrap the COVID levy, E-levy, bet winnings levy, and nuisance port levies to ameliorate the plight of suffering Ghanaians.
    3. Free SHS has come to stay. No one can cancel it. I am coming to improve its implementation and make it better. I will support any bill intended to improve education in Ghana.
    4. My government will invest $3 billion in ICT and partner with local tech start-ups and businesses to launch a ‘Digital Jobs Initiative’ that will create at least 300,000 skilled employment opportunities for the youth in the digital space.
    5. I will establish a National Women’s Development Bank that will be run by women to support one million women-led and women-owned businesses.
    6. I will roll out the One Million Coders Program that will train one million youth in coding and other IT programs for job creation.
    7. I am a staunch Christian who has supported my local Assemblies of God church to build churches for God. But I don’t condone stealing in the name of God. I will conduct a forensic audit into the cathedral loot.
    8. I will not allow any of my appointees to involve themselves in mining or illegal mining. Mining in forest reserves will be banned under my government.
    9. No appointee of mine will be allowed to buy state assets.
    10. I will prioritize fiscal discipline to restore investor confidence in the economy and pursue prudent measures that will boost cocoa and oil production to increase our forex earnings and stabilize the exchange rate.
    11. I will fight corruption and ensure accountability on the part of government officials, whether they be NPP or NDC. I will not scrap the OSP. Neither will I be a corruption clearing agent.
    12. I have been out of office for seven years, seven months. The NPP has not found any evidence of wrongdoing against me. Their lies against me to the effect that I own hotels in Dubai and that my government spent $10 million on presidential diaries have all been exposed. Don’t fall for the NPP’s lies.
    13. My track record in the fight against corruption is there for all to see. I prosecuted my own appointees, including my own friend, and retrieved about GHS50 million for the state in the GYEEDA scandal.
    14. I will run a lean government of not more than 60 ministers and cut down on government expenditure and waste.
    15. I will create a safe and congenial atmosphere for the media and anti-corruption agencies to work.
    16. I will pursue justice for the families of the eight Ghanaians who were murdered during the 2020 general elections and other victims of state-sponsored brutalities and punish the culprits.
    17. I will modernize agriculture to boost food production to reduce food inflation and hardships. I will also prioritize agribusiness and agro-processing for import substitution and exports.

Mahama promises to pay Ghana Premier League players stipends when elected

Presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, has pledged that his administration will guarantee stipends for players in the Ghana Premier League.

In recent times, the absence of financial compensation for players in the Ghana Premier League has driven many to leave the domestic league for better-paying opportunities abroad.

Former President Mahama has vowed that the NDC will tackle this problem by offering stipends to players in the local league.

“I would also like to assure the sports community that we will improve our stadium infrastructure for track and field sports, upgrade our deteriorating pitches, and provide stipends to footballers in the Premier League,” he stated.

At the Media Encounter on Sunday, July 7, 2024, John Dramani Mahama expressed his views on the matter.

He stated, “We will give equal attention to what we consider to be the least-funded sports, just as we have done for soccer.”

The NDC first made this commitment in 2020, promising to provide Ghana Premier League players with a monthly salary of GH¢1,500.

We lost 2016 elections due to dumsor – NDC

Joyce Bawah Mogtari, spokesperson for the John Mahama campaign team, has admitted that the energy crisis (dumsor) significantly played a role in the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) loss in the 2016 general elections.

In an interview with Channel One TV on Monday, July 8, Joyce Bawah Mogtari clarified that Mahama’s strategy during the energy crisis prioritized finding lasting solutions rather than leveraging it for political advantage.

She noted the formidable challenge the administration faced in swiftly resolving the persistent power outages, despite their sincere efforts.

Bawah Mogtari highlighted the widespread frustration and discontent among Ghanaians caused by ‘Dumsor,’ emphasizing its significant impact.

Acknowledging the administration’s shortcomings in addressing the issue adequately, she attributed public dissatisfaction and electoral consequences to these challenges for the NDC.

Reflecting on lessons learned, Bawah Mogtari underscored Mahama’s commitment to effectively tackling the energy crisis should he have the opportunity to lead again.

She expressed confidence that Mahama’s leadership would continue to prioritize substantive solutions over political exploitation.

“I believe strongly and maybe because I’m very close to the campaign, that in 2016, one of our biggest misfortunes was the fact that we had these crippling power outages.”

“I mean look, the whole of Ghana suffered enormously from those outages and people were up in arms. Yes, maybe we could even have offered solutions in a much quicker time, but it wasn’t that easy to do.”

“This was a country that over the years depended largely on Akosombo Dam, we used to have crawlers telling us about the water levels, and then the rain patterns changed, and then climate issues happened. And somehow, it threw us completely overboard. Look, it was not in Mr Mahama’s interest for that whole protracted power outage to have actually occurred, but it happened,” she said.

  • Step down from office – NDC to CJ over judicial appointment recommendation

Step down from office – NDC to CJ over judicial appointment recommendation

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called for the resignation of Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Torkornoo, accusing her of pursuing a “self-seeking” agenda in the recent recommendation of judges to the Supreme Court.

This demand was made by the party’s National Communications Officer, Sammy Adu Gyamfi, who criticized the Chief Justice’s actions as unconstitutional and detrimental to the national interest.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, Adu Gyamfi highlighted procedural flaws in Chief Justice Torkornoo’s approach but emphasized that the underlying issue is her alleged intent to influence the judiciary with personal preferences.

“What she has done is totally wrong, it was totally uncalled for, it is unconstitutional and I think she must eat humble pie, concede this fact, and make amends. But beyond the procedural flaws for me is the whole agenda and intention behind the action,” he stated.

Adu Gyamfi further elaborated that if the Chief Justice had merely requested an increase in the number of Supreme Court justices to expedite pending cases, procedural lapses might be forgivable.

However, her actions go beyond this, as she proposed specific judges to the President, raising concerns about her motivations.

“That, for me, borders on her intents and agenda she has. It shows that this CJ is not interested in having more justices on the Supreme Court, but actually has her own preference of friends, allies, or people in the judiciary that she thinks should be appointed to the Supreme Court. That is problematic because that brings up these issues of conflict of interest,” Adu Gyamfi remarked.

He expressed further concern over the Chief Justice’s dual role as the Chairperson of the Judicial Council, which advises the President on judicial appointments.

He argued that this position should not be used to influence the President’s choices based on personal preferences, stating, “That should tell you clearly, that the main motivation for the CJ is not what we are being told or for the speedy determination of matters before the Supreme Court but to have the preferences of this Chief Justice appointed onto the Supreme Court. And that is why, for me, I think this is reason enough for this chief justice to resign.”

In a letter dated May 30, 2024, addressed to President Nana Akufo-Addo, Chief Justice Torkornoo recommended the appointment of five judges to the Supreme Court: Justice Angelina Mensah Homiah, Justice Eric Kyei Baffour, Justice Edward Amoako Asante, Justice Cyra Pamela C.A. Koranteng, and Justice Afia Asare Botwe.

The NDC has accused both the President and the Chief Justice of conspiring to protect current government officials from future accountability.

On July 4, NDC General Secretary Fifi Kwetey expressed concerns over the nomination of the five justices, describing it as unjust and lacking transparency. He called for the decision to be challenged, emphasizing the need for fairness in the judicial appointment process.

In response, the Majority in Parliament, represented by Alex Afenyo-Markin, defended the Chief Justice’s proposal to increase the number of Supreme Court judges to 20.

Afenyo-Markin insisted that the recommendation is within legal boundaries and that no laws were violated in the Chief Justice’s actions.

As this controversy unfolds, the call for the Chief Justice’s resignation by Sammy Adu Gyamfi underscores the ongoing

Mahama is full of lies, be vigilant – Konadu Rawlings to Ghanaians

Former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings and flagbearer of the National Democratic Party (NDP), has dismissed President John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) claims of “unprecedented” infrastructural development as falsehoods.

In an interview with Class91.3FM’s Paa Kwesi Parker-Wilson, Mrs. Rawlings accused Mr. Mahama of attempting to deceive Ghanaians with exaggerated achievements.

“I don’t see what the president is talking about because he is lying to us and we won’t accept it,” Mrs Rawlings said.

She criticized the Mahama administration for what she viewed as misplaced priorities, citing an example where a school in Derma, designed to accommodate over 5,000 people, was commissioned despite the local population being fewer than 300 residents.

“I saw them [government] commissioning a school in Derma. … The population in Derma is not more than 300 people [but] the school that has been put there can house over 5,000 people. Is that what you want your monies to be used for?” she questioned.

Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings expressed optimism about her party’s prospects in the upcoming December 7 elections, confident that the existing two-party dominance in Ghana could be overturned.

“You go to some countries, there are say two or three parties that have entrenched themselves, then suddenly one comes and sees everybody off and they become the government,” she stated.

I will address corruption impartially – Mahama

Former President, John Mahama has pledged to address corruption allegations impartially if he returns to office.

He emphasized that he would not shield any offenders from investigation, including his own appointees.

During a conference with journalists on Sunday, the NDC flagbearer highlighted that his approach to governance has evolved, and he will no longer adopt a lenient stance on corrupt activities.

“I can assure you, if you believe that I was imbued the father-for-all syndrome, it’s been exorcised. And it’s been exorcised because it is a demand by the people of Ghana.”

“The people of Ghana are asking for accountability and we must create a situation where everybody who agrees to serve must know that he will be held accountable to the people,” he said.

The former President also recounted efforts made during his administration to recover funds from state agencies.

“We retrieved monies from state agencies, so the track record is there,” he asserted.

Reflecting on his previous tenure, Mahama cited the controversial GYEEDA (Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency) report as evidence of his dedication to combating corruption.

“Some of the people involved [in GYEEDA case] went to court to restrain the Attorney General and the court processes took forever. There were others where there was the prosecution of my own colleague and friend, Abuga Pele. The Attorney General put him before courts and he was jailed. It was recently that President Akufo-Addo granted him amnesty,” he added.

“So the will to fight corruption was there,” Mahama stated, highlighting the need for transparency and accountability in government.

Earlier, he criticized the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) over what he described as an unprecedented level of corruption.

According to him, the manner in which the Akufo-Addo-led administration runs the country leaves much to be desired.

“What we have now, obviously never and should never be a yardstick for governance. My goal is to launch a renewed fight against corruption,” he said on Sunday.

My appointees will be barred from buying state assets – Mahama

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has firmly declared that all his future government appointees will be prohibited from purchasing any state assets.

“If you agree to serve, you must serve and not engage in other side businesses or activities. You must not go and buy state properties. Anybody serving in my government will not be allowed to buy a state asset. No one serving in my government will purchase state assets, be it vehicles, cars, buildings, lands, or anything,” Mr. Mahama said during an engagement with the media on Sunday, July 7, 2024, in Accra.

The former President stressed that his next administration will depart from past practices, promising to enforce a strict code of conduct aimed at curbing extravagance among public officials.

“We will cut out waste, we will eliminate opulence, and we will introduce a code of conduct for public appointees, especially political appointees, regarding how they behave in terms of their modesty and humility. Your appointment to that office is an opportunity to serve, not an opportunity to lord it over the people,” Mr. Mahama added.

“And so, our political appointees should change their attitude, and that is what we are going to insist on. We will appoint people who are modest, humble, and open to the people, and they will undertake actions that will improve the lives of our young people. Therefore, we are going to hold them to a higher standard of service than has been the case in the past.”

We won’t let you, NDC destroy our reputation – NPP to Kwesi Pratt

Tensions flared between Dennis Miracles, a member of the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia campaign team and Editor-in-Chief of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt, during a conversation on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show on Friday, July 5.

The heated exchange centered on Mr. Pratt’s critique of the New Patriotic Party’s choice of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as their running mate for the upcoming December elections.

Mr. Pratt opened the discussion by raising concerns voiced by MP Andy Appiah-Kubi about Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s suitability for the role, emphasizing the need for a candidate who resonates deeply with grassroots constituents.

Hon. Andy Appiah-Kubi remarked, “If it were my decision to make, I wouldn’t select him. He is not my preference… I would prefer someone who is transparent with the people on the ground, capable of securing votes, willing to align with the presidency, and instrumental in bridging the gap between Parliament and the Executive.”

Earlier in the program, Dennis Miracles criticized Kwesi Pratt for what he saw as double standards, accusing Mr. Pratt of pretending to be neutral while secretly supporting the NDC and trying to influence young people against NAPO and the NPP.

Later, the seasoned journalist challenged Dennis Miracles regarding his claim of an endorsement by a professor from the University of Cape Coast who had collaborated with NPP running mate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO).

In response, Dennis Miracles passionately defended Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s credentials and referenced endorsements, sparking a vigorous debate.

Accusations of bias and misrepresentation were traded back and forth, with Dennis Miracles highlighting Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s track record of compassionate leadership through various social initiatives.

“In fact, if you look at those who backed the NDC in their propaganda, misinformation, and bias against the NPP under President Kufuor, Uncle Kwesi is among them, and we will not tolerate it… The new NPP will not allow anyone to deceive us. We will present the facts. We will address the issues,” he declared during the “Kokrokoo” morning show on Peace FM.

Discussing the qualities of Dr. Opoku Prempeh, Dennis responded, “Only a compassionate leader could decide to sponsor the education of 100,000 children from low-income families. Only a compassionate leader would do that. Only a compassionate leader would offer free medical treatment to children under 18 with kidney problems. Only a compassionate leader would do that.

“Only a compassionate leader would recognize that eliminating teacher and nurse allowances would harm the less fortunate; only a compassionate leader would do that. Therefore, Uncle Kwesi is completely mistaken in downplaying NAPO’s reputation as a compassionate leader. He is mistaken!”

“We will not allow him to deceive us. We will evaluate NAPO for ourselves… Ghanaians will not be fooled by this; we have seen this tactic before. He only speaks out when the NPP is in power,” he retorted to Kwesi Pratt.

The exchange became increasingly intense, punctuated by interruptions and pointed rebuttals, culminating in Mr. Pratt reproaching Dennis Miracles for what he perceived as disrespectful behavior during the discussion.

“The professor from the International Department of the University of Cape Coast did not claim to speak on behalf of UTAG or NAGRAT; he expressed his personal opinion. However, Miracles, while discussing the professor’s comments, added that all teacher unions supported his statement,” Pratt clarified.

However, the NPP activist interjected, asserting that Mr. Pratt was misrepresenting his statements.

“I did not say that. I am here; let me clarify what I said,” he protested.

Enraged by Dennis’ interruption, the seasoned journalist sought to silence him and commanded, “Young man, be quiet and let me finish.”

However, equally incensed, Miracles refused to yield and accused Mr. Pratt of distorting his words.

“I did not say that. Let me correct you because you are lying. I did not say what you are accusing me of. I will not sit here and allow you to lie to my face; it will not work,” he responded.

Clearly provoked by the disrespectful behavior and frequent interruptions from the “youthful” NPP activist, Kwesi Pratt sternly reprimanded him.

“Hey, listen, you need to stop… I will not tolerate your misbehavior in this studio… You cannot behave this way here… every participant invited to join a discussion (on Kokrokoo) must conduct themselves respectfully, without insults… but your conduct is completely unacceptable… you are being disrespectful. You are not my equal,” a charged Kwesi Pratt declared.

NPP, NDC youth in Okaikwei South clash after NPP executive tears down posters

The Okaikwei South constituency almost became a war zone last night when youth from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) clashed.

A viral video shows the youths of both parties involved in a heated altercation after an NPP executive, who claimed to be contracted, was seen tearing down NDC posters on the street.

As the NPP executive and his friends were in the process of removing the posters, NDC youth arrived at the scene, leading to a serious confrontation.

When asked why he was removing the posters, the NPP executive stated that he had been contracted to take them down.

One of the NDC youth was heard saying that even if they were contracted, they should do what is necessary. The NDC youth also vowed to retaliate by removing NPP posters from the area.

  • Over 300 state-owned factories were sold by NDC under Rawlings regime – NPP pro-activist

Over 300 state-owned factories were sold by NDC under Rawlings regime – NPP pro-activist

A pro-activist of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), known as Gen. Buhari on the social media platform X, has criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for their alleged role in the collapse and sale of over 300 state-owned factories during the administration of Jerry John Rawlings.

This action, he said, was carried out under the P.N.D.C.L. 326 – the Divestiture of State Interests (Implementation) Act, 1993.

The Divestiture of State Interests (Implementation) Act, 1993, was an act that provided for the divestiture of interests of the Republic in corporate and other bodies.

Gen. Buhari noted in his post that “Kwame Nkrumah believed in Industrialization, he put up factories but unfortunately the (P)NDC collapsed all those factories through a law they initiated which is the ‘Divestiture Act’ & turned some of the factories into Churches. Years down the lane, another President who believed in Industrialization, Akufo-Addo, emerged and initiated a policy that seeks to put up factories across the length and breadth of our country through a private-led drive named 1 District 1 Factory. Nkrumah is gone but his vision continues for industrialization.”

Gen. Buhari’s remarks referenced a submission by Miracles Aboagye, the Director of Communications for the campaign team of the NPP’s flagbearer.

Aboagye revealed that some of the factories allegedly sold by the NDC included notable establishments such as Kwame Nkrumah Catering Rest Houses, Ghacem Cement, Nsawam Cannery, Kanda GNTC, Atlantic Hotel, Abosso Glass Factory, and Gliksen W/A Company.

Suspended NDC Assin Central Secretary threatens lawsuit over refusal to reverse suspension

Suspended Assin Central Constituency Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Central Region, Sadique Broni Yeboah, has issued an ultimatum to the party.

He demands that his suspension be reversed within three days. If the party fails to comply, Yeboah intends to pursue legal action against the NDC.

The suspension of Yeboah, along with the Assin Central Regional Chairman, Prof. Richard Kofi Asiedu, stemmed from their involvement in the suspension of the constituency’s parliamentary candidate, Nurein Shiabu Migyimah.

Yeboah has emphasized his commitment to seeking legal recourse should the party not lift his suspension within the stipulated timeframe.

The national leadership of the NDC intervened in the dispute, declaring the suspension of Nurein Shiabu Migyimah null and void. This decision followed a letter dated July 3, sent by Yeboah’s legal representatives to the General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey.

The letter demanded that the NDC rescind Yeboah’s suspension, asserting procedural irregularities and alleging a breach of natural justice.

According to Yeboah’s lawyers, the suspension violates the party’s constitution and internal regulations, warranting immediate reconsideration by the NDC leadership.

“We have the instructions of our client to demand from you the withdrawal of his suspension forthwith within 3 days and give him a fair hearing if you find it meets so to do.”

“Be informed that we have received strict and unqualified instructions from our client to take legal action against you in the event that you default in that regard,” portions of the letter said.

Nurein Shiabu Migyimah faced suspension from his role as the Parliamentary Candidate for his party, based on allegations related to immoral conduct and activities deemed detrimental to the party’s interests.

Additionally, accusations surfaced claiming that Migyimah was involved in a scandal where he allegedly impregnated the wife of Sadique Broni Yeboah.

  • You mistake NAPO’s boldness as arrogance, but it is Mahama who is – Miracles Aboagye

You mistake NAPO’s boldness as arrogance, but it is Mahama who is – Miracles Aboagye

Communications director for the campaign team of New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has refuted claims that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), Dr. Bawumia’s chosen running mate, is arrogant.

He asserted that these accusations come from members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), who have previously made similar false allegations against NPP presidential candidates such as President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

Miracles Aboagye emphasized that anyone who has worked closely with Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the current Minister for Energy and Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, knows that he is confident, not arrogant.

“These allegations wouldn’t work; we have advanced. People used to believe these things in the past. If you can recall, in the past, there were similar allegations against Kufuor and Nana Addo. People said Kufuor and Nana Addo were womanisers.

For Kufuor, people said he had relations with a white woman which resulted in the birth of twins, Paul and Peter. Later, we went to look into these things, and it was not true.

“Anybody who tells you that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh is arrogant is an NDC member; he or she just wants to spoil his name. Almost every other Ghanaian who is not partisan and has worked with Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh would bear witness that he is a team player, a goal-getter, results-oriented,” he said in Twi.

He highlighted NAPO’s successful tenure as Minister of Education as evidence that he is not
    arrogant.

“Can someone who is arrogant work at the Ministry of Education for four years without any labour unrest? Do you know that it takes love, humility, patience, and respect to deal with labour unions? Boldness and assertiveness are not the same as arrogance. Confidence is not the same as arrogance.”

Dennis Miracles Aboagye further suggested that former President John Dramani Mahama, the NDC flagbearer, is the one who could be described as arrogant, citing past comments he has made.

He concluded by stating that boldness and assertiveness should not be confused with arrogance, and that confidence should not be mistaken for arrogance.

NDC is calling NAPO arrogant because they fear him – NPP

Deputy Minister of Works and Housing, Dr. Prince Hamid Armah, has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of launching a campaign to smear the reputation of Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

Dr. Armah, who represents Kwesimintsim in Parliament, believes the NDC’s efforts stem from their apprehension over Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s capabilities and experience.

He asserted that the opposition fears Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s strong character and deep political insight, which he views as crucial complements to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on their party’s ticket.

In an interview with GHOne News, Dr. Armah remarked, “I think the NDC is afraid of the personality of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh complementing Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to complete our ticket. They are just afraid. They know that the Minister for Energy comes with a strong character, a deep understanding of our political landscape, and a demonstrable record in public service. In all his endeavors in the public service space, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has excelled”.

He added: “I worked under him at the Ministry of Education, and I can tell you that if you want someone who is results-oriented, then Dr. Opoku Prempeh is the one.

“All those criticisms from the NDC are normal. It is understandable that people make such comments. I know Dr. Opoku Prempeh very well. People often confuse confidence with arrogance due to our cultural context, where timidity is seen as respect and humility, while confidence is often mistaken for arrogance. The NDC is trying to label him as arrogant, but it will not succeed.”

Dr. Armah concluded by dismissing the NDC’s tactics, confident that their efforts to tarnish Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s image would not succeed.

  • The Judiciary is better placed to justify an enhanced Supreme Court – AG tells NDC

The Judiciary is better placed to justify an enhanced Supreme Court – AG tells NDC

Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has firmly dismissed allegations from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that President Nana Akufo-Addo is strategically appointing judges to the Supreme Court who are sympathetic to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The AG addressed these claims during an interview at the United States Independence Day Event held at the Embassy Garden in Accra.

The NDC, in a statement released on Thursday, July 4, accused President Akufo-Addo and the Chief Justice of colluding to appoint judges who would protect current government officials from future accountability.

The opposition party contended that the Judicial Council had unanimously resisted the elevation of five judges to the Supreme Court, only to be overridden by the Chief Justice and the President in a covert manner.

Fiifi Kwetey, the NDC’s General Secretary, expressed serious concerns over the nominations, asserting that the move to appoint five new judges to the highest court appeared unjust and warranted strong opposition.

In response, Attorney General Dame refuted these accusations, emphasizing that the nominations were made at the request of the Chief Justice based on the operational needs of the judiciary. He underscored the legitimacy and necessity of these appointments.

“What I am aware of is the request from the Chief Justice, and there is no malice in that. The Judiciary is undoubtedly better placed to provide ample justification for an enhanced Supreme Court,” Dame stated. “It is also important to note that the Supreme Court of Ghana is quite unique.”

The AG’s comments aim to reassure the public and counter the narrative presented by the NDC. He stressed that the appointments were made transparently and in the best interest of the judicial system, not to serve any political agenda.

  • GBA president opposes Akufo-Addo’s plan to appoint 5 judges – NDC in intercepted letter

GBA president opposes Akufo-Addo’s plan to appoint 5 judges – NDC in intercepted letter

National Democratic Congress (NDC) has revealed information about Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo’s recommendation for appointing five judges to the Supreme Court.

During a press briefing on Thursday, July 4, 2024, NDC General Secretary Fifi Kwetey disclosed that they possess a letter from the President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Yaw Acheampong Boafo, opposing President Akufo-Addo’s attempt to unconstitutionally appoint five additional judges to the Supreme Court.

According to the NDC, the letter indicates that the GBA believes the president and Chief Justice’s proposal to increase the number of Supreme Court Justices to 20 would bypass necessary constitutional amendments.

“The GBA argues forcefully that the request by President Akufo-Addo and Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo to increase the minimum number of justices at the Supreme Court to 20 will lead to circumvention of the required constitutional amendment, hence their rejection of same.

“The GBA proposed a review of the conventional number of justices of the Supreme Court every ten years, calling for broader consultation with other key stakeholders such as the Council of State and Parliament”.

Fifi Kwetey called on President Akufo Addo to halt any plans to make further appointments when there are a few months to the general elections.

“With general elections set to take place in a few months, we are of the view that President Akufo-Addo must immediately halt his plans to make any further appointments to the superior courts.

This is in view of the fact that he has already packed the courts with too many of his loyalists to the disbelief of many right-thinking Ghanaians and consummate democrats,” he said.

  • Akufo-Addo is turning the courts to an NPP hub to resist accountability – NDC

Akufo-Addo is turning the courts to an NPP hub to resist accountability – NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused President Akufo-Addo of appointing New Patriotic Party loyalists to the country’s courts to exert control over the judiciary and evade accountability after leaving office.

The criticism arises following Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo’s recommendation of five judges for appointment to the Supreme Court.

General Secretary of the NDC, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, expressed these concerns during a press conference on Thursday, highlighting the party’s apprehension about the president’s approach to judicial appointments.

Kwetey raised alarms over what he described as a troubling trend of partisan appointments to independent state institutions, warning of potential negative consequences for national stability.

“We are concerned about a worrying pattern which irresistibly suggests that the President is appointing only loyalists of his party to these courts to have control of the judiciary and escape post-regime accountability. It is also very clear that the President is packing the courts ahead of the impending presidential and parliamentary elections with judges who are sympathetic to his party.

“Such deliberate politicisation and bastardisation of independent institutions of state, including the judiciary, can negatively impact the peace and stability of our democracy.”

“It is trite knowledge that without a fair and impartial judiciary, democracy and constitutionalism suffer. That is why this must be an issue of huge national concern as it adds to the many other issues that already pose threats to the peace and stability of Ghana’s democracy,” he stated.

Kwetey stressed the vital role of a fair and impartial judiciary in upholding democracy and constitutional governance, emphasizing the gravity of the issue as a national concern amidst existing threats to Ghana’s democratic fabric.

  • CJ has no power to recommend judges – NDC

CJ has no power to recommend judges – NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticized the Chief Justice’s recommendation of judges for the Supreme Court, calling it unconstitutional.

Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Torkornoo has proposed five judges to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to help manage the Supreme Court’s current caseload.

At a press conference in Accra, NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey asserted that the constitution does not authorize the Chief Justice to recommend candidates for the Supreme Court to the President.

He declared the Chief Justice’s proposal to President Akufo-Addo to be without constitutional merit and therefore invalid.

“Nowhere in the constitution is the Chief Justice named as the one to recommend persons to the president for appointment to the Supreme Court. We wish to state, without any equivocation, that the Chief Justice’s letter is illegal and of no effect.

“Her actions have completely turned over due process on its head and compromised her independence as the head of the judicial system. We are concerned about a worrying pattern that irresistibly suggests that the president is only appointing loyal members of his party to this court to have control over the judiciary to escape post-regime accountability,” he stated.

The judges recommended for nomination include Justice Afia Serwaa Asare Botchwey, who presided over the ambulance case involving Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, along with Justice Cyra Pamela Koranteng, Justice Edward Amoako Asante, Justice Eric Kyei Baffuour, and Justice Angelina Mensah Homiah.

  • Retract “unconstitutional” Supreme Court judges recommendation to Akufo-Addo – NDC to Chief Justice

Retract “unconstitutional” Supreme Court judges recommendation to Akufo-Addo – NDC to Chief Justice

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has formally called upon Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo to retract her recommendation to President Akufo-Addo regarding the appointment of new Supreme Court judges, citing concerns over constitutionality.

In a press statement released today, the opposition party expressed strong reservations about the Chief Justice’s recent letter advising President Akufo-Addo to nominate five judges to the Supreme Court. According to the NDC, such a recommendation represents a breach of constitutional norms and threatens the independence of the judiciary.

“The NDC urges Chief Justice Torkonoo to retract her recommendation to President Akufo-Addo for the appointment of new Supreme Court judges,” stated Fiifi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the NDC, during a media briefing.

“This action undermines the principles of judicial independence and could set a dangerous precedent for the politicization of Ghana’s judiciary.”

Kwetey emphasized the importance of upholding constitutional safeguards that ensure the judiciary operates free from political interference. He stressed that the appointment of judges to the highest court in the land should adhere strictly to meritocratic principles and due process, rather than being influenced by political agendas.

The controversy arose following Chief Justice Torkonoo’s letter dated May 30, 2024, recommending five individuals for appointment to the Supreme Court, including Justice Afia Serwaa Asare Botwe, who currently presides over significant legal proceedings.

In light of these developments, the NDC has called for a retraction of the recommendation and urged Chief Justice Torkonoo to uphold the judiciary’s role as an independent arbiter in Ghanaian democracy. The party underscored its commitment to safeguarding democratic institutions and ensuring they remain resilient against political interference.

As the debate unfolds, stakeholders continue to monitor the situation closely, recognizing the critical importance of maintaining judicial integrity and independence in Ghana. The NDC remains steadfast in its advocacy for transparent and constitutional processes in the appointment of judges, aiming to preserve the judiciary’s credibility and effectiveness in upholding justice.

  • Akufo-Addo, CJ assaulting our judicial independence with “unconstitutional” SC judges recommendation – NDC

Akufo-Addo, CJ assaulting our judicial independence with “unconstitutional” SC judges recommendation – NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has vehemently criticized President Nana Akufo-Addo and Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo, accusing them of undermining judicial independence through what they deem an “unconstitutional” recommendation to appoint new Supreme Court judges.

In a strongly-worded statement released today, the NDC condemned the recent move by Chief Justice Torkonoo to advise President Akufo-Addo to nominate five new judges to the Supreme Court.

According to the opposition party, this action represents a blatant attempt by the Executive to exert undue influence over the judiciary, compromising its impartiality and integrity.

“The blatant unconstitutional actions of President Akufo-Addo and Chief Justice Torkonoo are not just political manoeuvres. They are a direct assault on our judicial independence and the very soul of our democracy,” declared Fiifi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the NDC, during a press conference.

Kwetey further highlighted the potential dangers of such actions, suggesting that they could transform Ghana’s judiciary into a mere extension of the Executive branch, used for political purposes rather than upholding justice.

“Imagine a Ghana where the Judiciary becomes a tool for political retribution rather than justice. This is not the Ghana we pledged to fight for,” he added, underscoring the NDC’s commitment to preserving democratic principles and judicial autonomy.

The NDC’s criticism stems from Chief Justice Torkonoo’s letter to President Akufo-Addo dated May 30, 2024, wherein she recommended the appointment of five new judges to the Supreme Court.

Among the nominees is Justice Afia Serwaa Asare Botwe, who currently presides over the contentious ambulance procurement trial involving Ato Forson and others.

As the debate intensifies, the NDC has called upon Chief Justice Torkonoo to retract her recommendation, urging her to uphold the principles of judicial independence enshrined in Ghana’s constitution. The opposition party remains vigilant in its stance against any actions that could undermine the judiciary’s role as a pillar of democracy in Ghana.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Effia Constituency in the Western Region, Abdul Majeed-Dokurgu, has articulated his educational vision for the constituency.

He highlighted having robust education policies that he believes are the best for the area.

To kickstart his vision, the aspiring MP distributed mathematical sets and other educational materials to all junior high school (JHS) candidates preparing for the upcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), scheduled to commence on Monday.

During an engagement with approximately 890 candidates from 10 schools in the constituency, Abdul Majeed-Dokurgu urged them to prioritize their education, assuring them of his readiness to provide support.

Under his BOSS Daakyepa Educational Policy, he reiterated his commitment to supporting the first 100 students entering senior high school, offering them free exercise books and mattresses.

Subsequently, he led a team to distribute the mathematical sets and other educational tools to the students.

The students and teachers expressed gratitude to the Parliamentary Candidate for his thoughtful gesture.

I am more famous than Bawumia and Mahama – Alan

Founder and leader of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, has asserted that his recognition across Ghana surpasses that of the flagbearers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

During the interview with Citi TV, Alan emphasized that his name and face resonate in every village in the country, unlike his two main competitors, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and John Dramani Mahama.

“There is no village in Ghana where Alan will not be recognised either by face or by my name and none of the two candidates [Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and John Dramani Mahama] have that level of penetration in the country.

“I have been around and this is true everywhere and this is my own assessment. There is no election that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo went that you will not find Alan standing side by side with him and on the ground. The people love Alan.”

Reflecting on his extensive campaign experiences alongside President Akufo-Addo, Alan highlighted the strong connection he has with the people.

Having traveled extensively across the nation, Alan noted a growing dissatisfaction with the traditional parties.

“There is some spirituality about leadership when people say it is God who makes kings and it is real and that is why I have bid my time and this is the time and that is why I have never been worried because never before in our country has there been a compiling case for an independent candidate.

“I have gone round the country and 70 to 80 percent of people say that they are tired of the NDC and the NPP but if Alan is coming, they will change their minds and vote.”

More taxes: Bank of Ghana is broke, Ghanaians to pay for it – Sammy Gyamfi

National Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has reiterated government’s intention to introduce what he describes as Bank of Ghana (BoG) recapitalization tax.

An add-on to it’s about fifty taxes introduced since his assuming office in 2017.

During an interview with TV3’s Captain Smart on Onua TV’s Maakye Show, he revealed that, government plans introduce a levy to aid the recapitalization of the Central Bank. Nobody he said would be excluded he added.

“They will call it Bank of Ghana (BoG) recapitalization levy. They would add it to your VAT, everyone would be made to pay.

As they have printed money and spent it recklessly among themselves, they are coming tax, trotro drivers, fisherfolks, among other informal sector workers to raise money to go fix their self induced mess” he noted.

He went on to slam the government over the huge sum of money pumped into the new Bank of Ghana headquarters which is currently still under construction.

Highlighting the incompetence of the incumbent government and the deteriorating value of the Ghana Cedi against the dollar, he jabbed that,

“Amid this they have awarded a contract in dollars, $250 million when they are after people charging in dollars because they aren’t even confidence in their ability to sustain the dollar hence they have awarded a contract in dollars which is equivalent to GHS 3 billion” he added.

He went on to express his frustration over the perceived misuse of public funds.

“You just can’t make sense of this, its become so cheap, that everyone is dipping their hands into state coffers. So Akufo-Addo did you come to solve Ghana’s problems or you came to came to become a problem for Ghanaians to solve?

What crime did we commit against these people(NPP)? where did we go wrong? I weep when I sit to read these documents. What Ghana is going through is a rape of our public purse.

Sammy Gyamfi’s revelation is a reiteration of NDC’s Ato Forson’s claims about a year ago.

It will be recalled that in 2023, the Minority Leader in Parliament, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson during a press conference on August 9, 2023 announced government’s intention to introduce a new tax in addition to it’s about fifty since his assuming office in 2017.

Colleagues, ladies and gentlemen of the media, fellow countrymen and women let me assure you that very soon Ghanaians would be made to pay for Bank of Ghana recapitalisation levy.

A tax to recapitalise the central bank of Ghana. So as we speak the Central Bank has collapsed.

  • Free SHS Bill will be passed no matter the opposition – Majority

Free SHS Bill will be passed no matter the opposition – Majority

Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has asserted that the caucus remains undeterred by opposition from the Minority concerning the Free Senior High School (SHS) bill.

Speaking on Onua FM’s Yen Nsempa program on Wednesday, July 3rd, the Effutu MP emphasized the non-negotiable nature of the Free SHS policy, affirming that the Majority will ensure the bill’s passage at any cost.

He emphasized that the policy will be enforced despite the objections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its parliamentarians.

According to Afenyo-Markin, “The ranking member on the education committee, Nortsue-Kotoe, said they will not support the bill, so it is fair to say that the NDC does not support the Free SHS bill ”.

He criticized the NDC for premature opposition without reviewing the bill, likening it to their initial resistance to the Free SHS policy and other significant social initiatives.

“There is no fear of anything. We only want to enact the law to bind all of us to build a new national psyche that Free SHS is not negotiable. No matter how the NDC opposes it, we will force it on them,” he added.

If passed, the bill would institutionalize the Free SHS policy, ensuring its continuity across administrations. Despite initial resistance, the NDC and Minority have now indicated their support for the bill.

They have also signaled plans to advocate for dedicated funding for Free SHS in upcoming legislation proposed by the government.

“As we speak now, the government owes monies to those who supplied school uniforms two to three years ago to senior high school students. They owe monies to people who supplied textbooks and furniture to senior high schools. So, what are they trying to say?” he questioned.

Meanwhile, Nortsue-Kotoe, Ranking Member on Parliament’s Education Committee and MP for Akatsi North Constituency, dismissed the NPP government’s claims regarding education concerns, highlighting outstanding debts to suppliers of essential educational materials.

I will appoint ministers from NPP and NDC – Alan

the Presidential candidate for the Alliance for Revolutionary Change, has declared that should he win the upcoming December 7 general elections, half of his ministers will be appointed from members representing both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament.

He emphasized his commitment to inclusivity as mandated by the 1992 Constitution, stating that his ministerial appointments would predominantly come from Parliament, encompassing members of the NDC, NPP, and potentially other parties or independent candidates elected to Parliament.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show with Bernard Avle on Citi FM, Kyerematen clarified that his selection criteria would prioritize individual merit over political affiliation.

“I hear people asking, how are you going to get your ministers but that is very simple. I am saying that I will pick ministers from the two parties that are represented in Parliament and if there are other parties that will make it to Parliament, I also have the flexibility to pick independent candidates.

“I am picking them not because they are NPP or NDC. I will pick them on the basis of their own individual merits. It is just that they are in Parliament and I am required by the constitution to pick at least half of my ministers from Parliament.”

In an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show with Bernard Avle on Citi FM, Kyerematen emphasized his commitment to inclusivity and national unity, stating that half of his ministers would be selected from members of Parliament, regardless of their political affiliation.

Under Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, the President is mandated to appoint at least half of his ministers from Parliament. Kyerematen asserted that his ministerial selections would prioritize individual merit over political allegiance.

“I am picking ministers not because they are NPP or NDC. I will pick them based on their own individual merits. It’s just that they are in Parliament, and I am required by the constitution to appoint at least half of my ministers from there,” Kyerematen explained.

He further expressed openness to considering members of other political parties who secure seats in Parliament, as well as independent candidates, reaffirming his commitment to a merit-based approach to governance.

Kyerematen’s proposal seeks to bridge political divides and foster collaboration across party lines within his administration.

NDC suspends Central Regional Chair and Constituency Secretary amidst internal party disputes

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has implemented a one-month suspension for Professor Richard Kofi Asiedu, the Central Regional Chairman, and Sadique Broni Yeboah, the Assin Central Constituency Secretary, due to alleged anti-party activities.

The suspension was decided following a significant meeting involving the party’s national leadership, the Functional Executive Committee (FEC), and representatives from the Assin Central constituency.

This session aimed to address the recent controversies surrounding the party’s Assin Central parliamentary candidate, Nurein Shiabu Migyimah, who was accused of immoral behavior and actions detrimental to the party’s interests.

Mr Migyimah’s candidacy came under scrutiny after allegations surfaced that he impregnated the wife of the party’s Assin Central General Secretary.

Consequently, the NDC’s Central Regional Functional Executive Committee launched an investigation, leading to Migyimah’s suspension for six months pending a review by the Regional Disciplinary Committee.

However, in a recent development, NDC General Secretary Fifi Kwetey announced that the suspension and withdrawal of Migyimah’s candidacy by the Central Region’s NDC Secretariat were “null and void.”

He emphasized, “The letter originating from the Secretariat of the Central Region NDC purporting to withdraw the candidacy of the said Assin Central candidate, Comrade Migyimah and further suspending his membership of the party, is null and void, and stands withdrawn.”

Kwetey reaffirmed that Migyimah remains the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Assin Central in the upcoming December 2024 general elections, stating, “Accordingly, Comrade Migyimah remains the NDC Parliamentary Candidate of Assin Central for the upcoming general elections in December 2024.”

This turn of events prompted the NDC leadership to call for the Central Regional Chairman to address concerns regarding the procedural violations in withdrawing Migyimah’s candidacy, highlighting the internal conflicts and procedural discrepancies within the party’s ranks.

NDC Women’s Organizer for Tema West, Paulina Lamisi, allegedly missing

The family of the Women’s Organizer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tema West constituency, Paulina Lamisi, is seeking public assistance in locating their missing relative.

Paulina has been missing since June 12, 2024, according to her brother, Paul Anamde.

She reportedly left home after completing an assignment with her husband but has not returned since. Her phone has been unreachable, raising concerns among her family and prompting them to report the matter to the police.

Speaking to Citi News, Paul Anamde pleaded for information on his sister’s whereabouts.

“She left home alone on June 12, and all efforts to contact her have failed. We have reported her disappearance to the police, and a publication has been made in the media. If we don’t hear anything within 7 days, the police can obtain a court order to access her phone records for further investigation.

He added, “We are deeply worried and pray for her safe return. We urge anyone with information to come forward. Wherever she is, we plead with her to come back home.”

We are not stealing NDC’s campaign strategy – NPP

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has strongly refuted accusations that his party is mimicking the campaign strategies of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

This response follows recent remarks by the NDC’s General Secretary, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, suggesting similarities in their campaign approaches.

Kodua dismissed Kwetey’s claims as “preposterous” during an interview on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Tuesday, July 2. He emphasized that the NPP’s engagement with voters through nationwide tours ahead of the December 7 general elections is a standard political practice, not an imitation of any other party’s strategy.

“The bottom line is, engaging with voters is a fundamental aspect of our campaign. Whether it’s meeting various groups, chiefs, or opinion leaders, every political party has the right to do so,” Kodua asserted.

He further clarified that the NPP’s approach to campaigning, which includes reaching out to diverse constituencies across the country, is driven by the necessity to connect with voters directly. Kodua pointed out instances where the NPP has visited constituencies ahead of the NDC, debunking any notion of copying campaign itineraries.

“Everywhere we go, they go, and vice versa. It’s about engaging with the electorate, and there’s no monopoly on how political parties conduct their outreach efforts,” Kodua remarked.

As the election season progresses, both the NPP and NDC continue to intensify their efforts to rally voter support through grassroots engagements and policy presentations. The debate over campaign strategies reflects the competitive nature of Ghanaian politics as parties vie for electoral victory.

  • Any attempts to oust IGP won’t be tolerated – NDC warns

Any attempts to oust IGP won’t be tolerated – NDC warns

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a strong caution against any potential moves to oust Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Speculations have circulated suggesting that the IGP was directed to take a compulsory leave of absence and transfer control of his office to his deputy, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, reportedly involved in the 2023 leaked tapes incident.

The Ghana Police Service has refuted these claims, reaffirming the IGP’s commitment to managing the force in accordance with President Akufo-Addo’s directives.

Despite these assurances, the NDC remains doubtful.

The party questions the police service’s explanation and expresses apprehension about a potential plot to replace the IGP as part of broader maneuvers to manipulate the upcoming December general election.

In an interview with Channel One News, the NDC’s deputy secretary, Mustapha Gbande, accused President Akufo-Addo of irresponsibility and prioritizing personal interests over national interests.

Mr. Gbande emphasized that the NDC will vehemently oppose any efforts to undermine Ghana’s democratic processes.

“We can guarantee President Akufo-Addo that the National Democratic Congress will use all of its power and might to repudiate any attempt to rig the 2024 election. Nothing will be able to override the people’s will,” Mr. Gbande stated.

He continued, “If this whole hullabaloo about trying to remove the IGP is about the election, President Akufo-Addo should reconsider and go home as a former president. At least in the minds of Ghanaians, he has made some appointments in the interest of the nation.”

Mr. Gbande praised the IGP’s tenure, noting, “Since assuming office, you can see significant reforms in the Ghana Police Service. There is a noticeable level of discipline, even in the appearance of police personnel, which enhances the image of our country—not just the NPP or President Akufo-Addo. It’s about the country.”

He concluded, “We have indulged President Akufo-Addo to the point where he has become an irresponsible president. It’s high time we tell him directly that it’s not always about him.”

NDC MPs on Appointments Committee boycott vetting of Dep. Minister for Trade

Members of the Minority Caucus on the Appointments Committee of Parliament have announced their decision to boycott today’s vetting of the President’s nominee for the position of Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry.

This move comes in response to the nomination of Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo, the Member of Parliament for Achiase, by President Akufo-Addo.

    Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo

Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo’s nomination follows the reassignment of the former Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Stephen Amoah, to the role of Deputy Minister for Finance.

However, the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has expressed strong objections to the nomination, citing the already large size of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government and its poor economic performance as the primary reasons for their stance.

In a press statement dated July 2, 2024, the Minority Caucus articulated their position:

“We are again unable to support this nomination by President Akufo-Addo at this time because our country has gone through (and continues to go through) very difficult periods, including crippling economic crisis, food insecurity, debt default as a result of excessive borrowing, corruption in government and wasteful and reckless expenditures.”

“With ordinary Ghanaians going through excruciating hardships and businesses relocating from Ghana as a result of the high tax regime created by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government, one would have expected the President to downsize his already large government,” the statement continued.

“This would have sent a signal to the people that President was mindful of the economic realities and was willing to do things differently to restore the needed confidence in the economy. That the President continues to nominate additional ministers to his already large-sized government at this injury time demonstrates a lack of appreciation of the economic mess that his government has unleashed on Ghanaians as a result of its bad economic policies.”

The statement reiterated the Minority’s previously announced position from May 17, 2024, stressing their inability to support the approval of what they termed an “injury time deputy minister nominee.”

They criticized the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government as “reckless, wasteful and insensitive about the plight of the ordinary Ghanaian,” and vowed not to participate in decisions that would further burden the already suffering populace.

“We will not, and cannot, take part in a decision to further burden the already suffering Ghanaian, especially when the president is unmindful of the financial consequences of his bloated government,” the Minority Caucus concluded.

My sister is single – Brother of lady allegedly in an inappropriate affair with Assin Central NDC PC

Abdallah Ibrahim, the brother of the woman involved in the suspension of Assin Central NDC parliamentary candidate Nurein Shaibu Migyimah, has clarified that his sister is single and not married, contrary to rumors.

Speaking on Onua TV’s morning show, Maakye, on Monday, July 1, 2024, Ibrahim emphasized that his sister, who was accused of infidelity, is unmarried.

He views the controversy as a deliberate attempt to tarnish their family’s reputation.

Nurein Shaibu Migyimah faced accusations of an inappropriate relationship with the wife of NDC constituency Secretary Sadique Broni, which resulted in his suspension by regional party executives.

However, Ibrahim clarified that while his sister was previously married to Sadique Broni, their marriage was dissolved in 2021.

He also refuted claims that his sister had a child with Migyimah, stating categorically that she has never been pregnant or given birth.

Reports alleged that Migyimah had rented accommodation for the woman in Kasoa, Awutu Senya East municipality, but Ibrahim confirmed that she resides in Assin Fosu, Assin Central municipality.

Explaining further, Ibrahim disclosed that the marriage between his sister and Mr. Broni was annulled due to deceit.

Their families belonged to different Islamic sects, and Mr. Broni had pledged to convert to his wife’s sect, which later turned out to be untrue.

Moreover, Ibrahim revealed that his sister had never harbored affection for Mr. Broni and was coerced into the marriage by their mother.

Additionally, Mr. Broni did not provide financial support to his wife, which resulted in her accumulating debts. He also faced health issues related to impotence and low sperm count, prompting medical intervention.

Despite the turmoil, the families officially dissolved the marriage after Mr. Broni threatened suicide multiple times upon learning of his wife’s intention to leave.

Concerned for his sister’s safety, Ibrahim advised her to vacate their residence, fearing potential harm from Mr. Broni to either himself or her.

He cautioned NDC constituency executives against involving his family in their disputes, stressing that there is no ongoing marital relationship between the secretary and his sister.

General-Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has affirmed the party’s determination to secure victory in the upcoming 2024 general election through grassroots mobilization rather than relying on legal challenges.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Mr Kwetey emphasized the NDC’s strategy to harness the skills of dedicated party members, particularly well-trained polling agents who are committed to upholding integrity and resisting bribery during the electoral process.

“We are not depending on the courts this time around,” Kwetey stated, echoing sentiments expressed by the party’s flag bearer, John Dramani Mahama.

“Our approach is to deploy competent polling agents and ensure meticulous result collation at every level of the party machinery.”

He called for the Electoral Commission (EC) to uphold neutrality and oversee a transparent electoral process that allows Ghanaians to freely choose their leaders without bias toward any political party.

“The role of the EC is to ensure fairness, not to influence election outcomes,” Kwetey emphasized. “They must assure Ghanaians of their impartiality and refrain from actions that could favor any party’s electoral prospects.”

Highlighting the stakes of the upcoming elections, Kwetey framed it as a pivotal moment for Ghana’s future, urging unity among party members and voters alike.

“This election is not just about the NDC; it’s a battle for the soul and future of our country,” he asserted. “We must unite to remove the current administration, which we accuse of economic mismanagement, corruption, and other malpractices.”

Kwetey stressed the importance of prioritizing national interests over personal agendas, urging unwavering loyalty to both the party and the nation.

“This is the time for unity and steadfast loyalty,” he concluded.

“We must place the greater good of our party and country above individual ambitions as we work towards a decisive victory.”

The whole country is NDC’s stronghold – Fifi Kwetey

The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Kwetey, has asserted that the entire country stands as the party’s stronghold while the New Patriotic Party (NPP) which he claims relies heavily on just two regions.

Speaking on TV3’s Hot Issues on Sunday, June 30, Kwetey emphasized the NDC’s intention to campaign vigorously across all regions to secure more votes, citing widespread dissatisfaction under the current administration.

“We believe the whole country is our stronghold as against NPP who are depending on two regions.”

Regarding the selection of Energy Minister and Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, as the running mate to NPP’s flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Fifi Kwetey stated that the NDC has no concerns.

Mr Kwetey believes that Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s performance at the Energy Ministry does not warrant apprehension about the upcoming elections this year.

“NDC not panicking because of Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh as running mate, he couldn’t even resolve the power situation,” he said.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has officially chosen Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as his running mate for the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

“NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia last night met President Akufo-Addo to formally inform him about his choice for running mate, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

Videos, more details surface concerning alleged Assin Central NDC candidates affair with party secretary’s wife

Details have surfaced regarding the scandalous affair involving Nurein Shaibu Migyimah, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Assin Central, and the wife of the party’s Constituency Secretary.

This revelation has ignited widespread outrage within the party.

Initial reports indicated that Migyimah’s illicit relationship with the Secretary’s wife led to her pregnancy and subsequent relocation, which severely tarnished his reputation and resulted in his suspension from the party.

It was alleged that Migyimah, after impregnating the Secretary’s wife, moved her to Kasoa and arranged accommodation for her there.

These allegations, substantiated by evidence, have plunged the NDC Central Regional Secretariat into turmoil as it grapples with the fallout from the incident.

Further investigation has revealed even more shocking details, including secret meetings between Migyimah and the Secretary’s wife at their matrimonial home in his absence, where they engaged in inappropriate activities.

The NDC’s Central Regional Organizer, Michael M. Derry, revealed in an interview that suspicions of infidelity led the Secretary to install cameras in his home. These cameras captured numerous intimate encounters between Nurein Shaibu Migyimah and the Secretary’s wife.

Previously suspended for six months, pending a formal hearing by the Regional Disciplinary Committee, Migyimah faced charges of “immoral acts and anti-party conduct.”

This suspension has now resulted in his imminent removal as the 2024 Assin Central Parliamentary Candidate by the NDC Central Regional Functional Executive Committee.

In a recent turn of events, the party has intensified sanctions against Migyimah. Mr. Gabriel Nii Kommey Adams, Regional Secretary of the NDC, confirmed that after consultations with national party leadership and key stakeholders, the decision was made to revoke Migyimah’s candidacy.

Meanwhile, Nurein Shaibu Migyimah, the candidate for Assin Central Constituency, described recent events as a ‘nightmare,’ but remains confident in his eventual vindication.

In a previous interview he stated, “I have not received any formal communication yet, but I am taking steps within the party’s framework to ensure a fair hearing regarding the ongoing situation.

This is a political party, and we operate under our party’s constitution. I am young and determined to navigate through this.

“I believe, and I know whatever allegation, anything they’ve said or whatever it is, after I go through the right party structures, I’ll be vindicated. Jane got only 35% approval from NDC’s Council, yet no member criticized her – Majority Leader

Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called for calm within the Majority caucus following the announcement that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has chosen Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as his running mate.

He encouraged his colleagues to take a cue from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which accepted the presidential candidate’s choice of running mate despite significant internal opposition.

He revealed that over 60 percent of the National Council of the NDC’s votes were against Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as the running mate. Nevertheless, once the decision was approved and announced, no one publicly criticized it.

His remarks came in response to comments made by the MP for Asante Akim North, Andy Appiah-Kubi, who expressed that Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, was not his preferred candidate.

Mr Appiah-Kubi, who is also a member of the NPP’s National Council, doubted NAPO’s ability to secure votes or be compliant with the presidency should the party win the elections.

The Majority Leader, however, urged MPs to respect the party’s decision and support the chosen individual, regardless of personal opposition. He acknowledged that the official communication of the chosen running mate had not yet been made but emphasized the importance of rallying behind the party’s selection to partner with Dr. Bawumia in the general elections.

“We haven’t received any official word from the party yet. Consultations are indeed ongoing, and we’ve heard various names.

“All the individuals mentioned are respected party members who have contributed significantly to our party. It would be inappropriate for anyone to single out an individual for criticism,” he stated.

“In politics, if destiny chooses you, your age, religion, or humility doesn’t matter. If God has chosen you, so be it.

“We need to maintain party unity, so let’s all wait and ensure that unity prevails. We know that when Prof. Opoku-Agyemang was selected, she received only 35% approval from the party’s national council, yet no one from the NDC publicly objected,” he added.

“We’re all in this together; no one is perfect. The flagbearer has the party’s confidence, and I trust he will utilize the party’s structures in making his decisions,” he affirmed.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has summoned the Central Regional Chairman and Secretary regarding the suspension of Assin Central Parliamentary Candidate, Nurein Shiabu Migyimah.

The regional executives, in a letter addressed to Mr. Migyimah, stated that the Functional Executive Committee’s decision to suspend the parliamentary candidate was based on allegations of immoral acts and anti-party conduct.

However, the national executives questioned the regional executives’ authority to make such a decision without their consent.

“The above-mentioned action, if true, was taken without the approval of the National Executive Committee and is considered inappropriate and in contravention of due process and the provisions of Articles 40, 41, 46, and 48 of the NDC constitution.”

“In light of that, you are hereby requested to appear before the National Leadership of the party on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at 2 pm, together with your Regional Secretary, to explain how this letter was sent out without the approval of the party’s national leadership,” the General Secretary of the party, Fifi Kwetey, stated.

I’m yet to receive a letter confirming my suspension – NDC Assin Central PC

The suspended Assin Central Parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nurein Shaibu Mygyimah, has stated that he has not received any formal notification of his suspension.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Friday, Mr. Mygyimah indicated that he became aware of his suspension through a letter circulating on social media and a WhatsApp message from the Regional Secretary.

He clarified that he maintains a cordial relationship with party executives and remains unaware of the specific allegations against him.

Despite this, Mr. Mygyimah expressed willingness to adhere to due party processes and expressed confidence in being exonerated.

The NDC’s Central Regional Secretariat withdrew Mr. Mygyimah as its parliamentary candidate less than six months before the December 7 election, citing allegations of immoral acts and anti-party activities in their statement.

However, Mr. Mygyimah denied these accusations, with his lawyer suggesting that the suspension was driven by personal grievances involving the Regional Chairman, Professor Kofi Asiedu, and the Regional Secretary.

In response, the aggrieved party issued a three-day ultimatum demanding the reversal of the decision to allow Mr. Mygyimah to resume his campaign for the NDC’s seat.

They threatened legal action if the ultimatum passed without resolution.

Furthermore, the NDC National Secretariat, surprised by the Regional Secretariat’s actions, summoned Prof. Asiedu and the Secretary to appear before the Functional Executive Council (FEC) on Tuesday, July 2.

The party leadership seeks clarification on the issuance of the suspension letter without approval from the national leadership.

I will ensure justice for Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election victims – Mahama

The Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring justice for the victims of the violence that occurred during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.

This renewal of commitment follows ongoing concerns regarding the government’s lack of action in implementing recommendations from the Commission of Inquiry’s white paper since 2019. The violence erupted after the passing of MP Emmanuel Kwabena Kyeremateng Agyarko on November 21, 2018, during the by-election.

While visiting one of the affected individuals in Fadama, Accra, John Mahama pledged that a future NDC administration would take steps to alleviate the plight of the victims and criticized the current government for its failure to hold the perpetrators accountable.

“We know that after Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, a commission of inquiry was set up and the commission made some investigations and recommendations. It identified those who were responsible for what happened at Ayawaso West Wuogon and asked that they be sanctioned.

“Unfortunately, this government has refused to take any action against those who were responsible for the harm that has been caused to our brother.

“And I have assured him that when we come to power, justice will be done and whoever was involved in that unfortunate incident will be brought to book and made to face justice for what they have done to him.

“Aside from that, it also recommended that they be paid compensation for the injuries that have been caused them. As far as I know that compensation has not been paid yet.

“So, I wish to assure him that NDC is going to win the elections and when we win, the appropriate compensation that is due him will be paid, so that he can invest the money into something and make a living. We will make sure he’s paid that compensation.”

Don’t sleep before and after Dec. 7, even their members are suspicious – Bridget Otoo to NDC

Media personality, Bridget Otoo, has advised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to be weary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the country prepares to head to the polls.

She offered her counsel after reports that a group of young supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) stood watch at the Walewale Police Station on Wednesday to protect ballot boxes holding votes from the constituency’s primary on January 27, 2024.

During the primary, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Walewale, Lariba Zuweira Abudu, was defeated by 35-year-old Dr. Mahama Tia Kabiru. Dr. Kabiru secured 345 votes compared to Hajia Zuweira’s 338 votes.

Following her defeat, Hajia Zuweira contested the announced results at the High Court in Tamale.

The vigilant youth claimed that the NPP’s North East Regional Chairman and Hajia Zuweira were plotting to relocate the ballot boxes from the police station without proper authorization.

Reacting to this, Bridget Otoo noted that there is no trust within the ruling government, and the NDC must not rest on its oars to ensure the 2024 election is credible and fair, without any form of manipulation of results.

“Their own party. Dear NDC you cannot sleep before and after December 7.”

On Monday, June 24, the High Court in Tamale issued an injunction against Dr. Mahama Tia Kabiru, prohibiting him from presenting himself as the duly elected NPP parliamentary candidate for Walewale.

  • I’ll be vindicated; I’m going to win the election – Suspended NDC Assin Central PC

I’ll be vindicated; I’m going to win the election – Suspended NDC Assin Central PC

Nurein Shiabu Migyimah, the suspended Parliamentary Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Assin Central constituency in the Central Region, is challenging claims of immoral acts and anti-party conduct that led to the withdrawal of his candidature and a six-month suspension.

The Central Regional Secretariat of the NDC recently announced the withdrawal of Migyimah’s candidature for the 2024 general elections on moral grounds.

Following complaints filed against him, the NDC’s Central Regional Functional Executive Committee conducted thorough investigations and deliberations, leading to the decision to withdraw his candidature immediately.

The committee has also communicated to the Assin Central Chairman of the NDC, informing him of Migyimah’s suspension for six months, pending further review and adjudication by the Regional Disciplinary Committee.

In an interview with Joy News’ Blessed Sogah, Migyimah expressed his confidence in being vindicated after undergoing the party’s review process.

“I believe, and I know whatever allegation, anything they’ve said or whatever it is, after I go through the right party structures, I’ll be vindicated. God being so good, God willing, ‘Inshallah’, on December 7, I’m going to win the election,” he stated.

Migyimah urged his supporters to remain calm as he works to resolve the matter through the proper channels within the NDC.

Although the Central Regional NDC claims to have served a formal notice of suspension, Migyimah insists he has yet to receive any official documentation detailing the allegations against him.

He maintains that he did not engage in the “immoral acts and anti-party conduct” alleged by the party’s Central Regional Wing.

The specifics of the alleged offences were not disclosed by the party, only mentioning that the decision was based on “immoral acts and anti-party conduct.”

Currently, the Assin Central seat is held by the New Patriotic Party’s Kennedy Agyapong. In the previous election, Migyimah secured 14,747 votes, representing 42.74% of the total, against Agyapong’s 19,754 votes, representing 57.26%.

The impact of this suspension on the political dynamics of the Assin Central constituency in the upcoming December elections remains to be seen.
