  • Kpone Katamanso NDC youth adopts bedroom to bedroom campaign

The Kpone Katamanso youth wing of the National Democratic Party has resolved to embark on bedroom to bedroom campaign to canvas for votes towards the 2020 general elections.

Mr Jerry John Adjololo, constituency youth organizer, was addressing a meeting of the various branch youth executives in the Constituency.

Mr. Adjorlolo explained that the 2020 campaign could be won by hard work saying that branch youth executives who work to ensure victory for the party, would not be forgotten.

According to the NDC Kpone Katamanso constituency youth organizer, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) had lost focus and lacked integrity to win the next general election.

Mr. Joseph Akweteh Tettey, Kpone Katamanso NDC Parliamentary candidate, assured the youth wing of a resounding victory for the NDC in the constituency.

According to him, his contender for the 2020 general elections was no match for him, saying, “I Will defeat him to teach him a lesson”.

Mr Tettey, who is popularly known as JOE T in the area, said the youth was the engine of the party hence they must work hard to recapture power from the ruling party.

He called on the party stewards to go out in their numbers and register for the new voter’s ID cards to enable them vote massively for Mr. John Mahama and him in the general election.

  • NDC should stop criticizing Nana Addo; he has done well – Nana Aba Anamoah

Nana Aba Anamoah is a veteran and popular journalist in Ghana. The young journalist shared her point of view in an interview with KSM.

She said that the National Democratic Congress should emulate the good works from the New Patriotic Party and stop lying to the general public that, Nana Addo hasn’t done anything for the citizens.

She started that even if the ruling government hasn’t done anything for the country, free education is enough to declare him as a good president.

The literacy rate in Ghana is very low so for NPP to introduce free education for the people of Ghana, it will make people become educated and the level of illiteracy in Ghana will reduce drastically.

Some people in Ghana are totally living in poverty so the introduction of free education has relieved parents who have been struggling to pay their school fees.

She also added that it would be better to have over 100 students in the classroom than to see children on the street selling and indulging in dubious businesses

  • Kweku Baako praises NDC, NPP for not engaging in politics of insults

Seasoned journalist, Kweku Baako has eulogized both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for engaging in intellectual political discourse.

According to Kweku Baako, both parties have done well by not trading insults but resorting to sound criticisms to establish their points on which party deserves to be voted into power.

Mr. Baako was commenting on the NDC score of 14 percent regarding the government’s fulfillment of its campaign promises.

The NDC scored the Akufo-Addo-led administration 14% stressing the government has achieved only 86 out of 631 campaign promises it made to the people of Ghana.

Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency in the Volta Region, Hon Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa added that the party has even been charitable and that the actual figure is 13.6%.

“We observed that only 86 promises have been delivered out of the 631 and if you do the arithmetic and divide the 86 by the 631, what you will get is 13.6% and so we have been generous to gift them 14%; we added 0.4% to it by rounding the figure up,” he indicated.

Addressing the issue on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’, Mr. Baako said the NDC scoring the government isn’t surprising because it is a political trend to find parties challenging themselves in an electioneering year but what he wouldn’t subscribe to is the use of insults.

“We don’t have the luxury of an alternative. Whether we like it or not, December 7th, this country will go for an election. That is five/six months; so if you hear that political parties and politicians are throwing out some of these things, I think it shouldn’t be surprising. It is to be expected and indeed, on one level, I prefer these things to the subculture of outright insults and character assassination and so forth. So, it’s not bad”.

“This sounds a little bit more intellectual. It’s academic. People like us who do research and historians and so forth would have the threat shifted to this level…In principle, in essence, I think it’s not bad. Indeed, if there is anybody who I think has personified this particular trend, I will say Dr. Bawumia is one. His emergence on the political landscape, he comes with that decisive, focused, intellectual, sometimes academic…He’s like a pioneer in it,” he stated.

  • Ofosu-Ampofo-led NDC in tatters – Kwamena Duncan

Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by its National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, is in tatters.

According to him, the NDC leadership is a bunch of confused people.

Hon. Kwamena Duncan was commenting on recent comments by the NDC flagbearer and former President, John Dramani Mahama that the party will reject results of a flawed elections by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Mr. John Mahama, speaking to the party members and supporters at their 28th anniversary, served notice to the EC ahead of the December polls saying “as leader of the NDC, I wish to serve notice that we shall do all our parts to ensure that our country remains peaceful and that the electoral process proceeds smoothly, but let nobody assume that we will accept the results of a flawed elections.”

The former President, according to Kwamena Duncan, also says the NDC will “police the ballot box boot for boot”.

Meanwhile, the NDC National Chairman has also ordered their members and supporters not to participate in the upcoming mass registration exercise for reason being that the atmosphere in the country is not conducive for the exercise.

“We say no to the new register and even if Parliament passes the legislation we will not accept it. We are not just against it because they will not accept the old voter card but because the whole atmosphere in the country is not conducive,” he said.

Contributing to Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’ on Wednesday, Mr. Duncan asserted that the “Ofosu Ampofo-led NDC today is in tatters” and wondered how the party expects their members to vote in the general elections.

“Leadership that only exudes confusion . . . You have your Presidential candidate talk about policiing the ballot box boot for boot at every level, then the party Chairman says he will not allow his people to go and register. So, who will then go and cast the ballot?” he quizzed.

To him, the NDC leadership is conditioning their members to reject the election results when former President John Mahama loses.

“The implication from such statements is somehow preparing the minds of his supporters that if it doesn’t go my way, that I see the outcome as a flawed one and that, all of you, as I have already said, as I have made the pronouncements five months ago; we’re not going to accept this. It’s preparation of their minds,” he told host Kwami Sefa Kayi.

“You’re policing the ballot boot for boot and when you finish, and the results come out; how are you going to call it? That if it favors you that it will not be considered flawed and if it doesn’t favor you, that’s when you’ll call it flawed?” he further questioned.

  • Jubilation time for NDC party members as Mahama decides to choose a running mate in September.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been at war selecting it’s running mate for their flagbearer Ex-President Mahama. This has lead to the NPP calling the NDC alot of names also saying they are not serious.

This seems to be a problem for the NDC as most of their own party executives are all even afraid of joining their flagbearer but an information reaching us is that three people have been chosen and these people are two males and one female.

The Ex-President is expected to choose any of these three people to assist him in government he has decided to make the decision public and known to all in September this year.

NDC could make a record by selecting the female because in the history of Ghana no female has ever been voted in as President or as a vice president of Ghana. Most people have started to criticize the party by saying if they go in for a female as a running mate they have no chance against the ruling party.

Here in Africa females has a lower percentage in being a president or a vice as we know the likes of Madam Konadu Agyeman Rawlings and the Daughter of Kwame Nkrumah as well as others have all failed to take the seat from the men.

  • Baba Jamal outlines several reasons why John Mahama is winning 2020 elections

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is trying to leave no stone unturned in their bid to recapture power from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). The NDC left power three and a half years ago after they lost the December 2016 elections by a wide margin, but the party seems to be bouncing back with energy.

A former member of parliament for Akwatia Constituency and former deputy minister in the Mahama administration, Hon. Baba Jamal has expressed his deep optimism about the NDC recapturing power from the NPP in the December 2020 polls.

According to Baba Jamal, the performance of the Nana Akuffo Addo led government is very appaling and there is no way Ghanaians are going to give them another term in office.

Speaking on Okay FM’s Ade3 Akye Abia morning show hosted by Kwame Nkrumah Tikese, the member of the NDC’s legal team listed a number of areas where he believes the government has failed and which will definitely cause Nana Akufo-Addo’s defeat to their flagbearer former president John Dramani Mahama.

He said in the area of mining, the Akuffo Addo government has demonstrated a very terrible performance. The poorly managed attempt of the NPP government to deal with the problem of illegal mining has caused about 3 million people losing their jobs, he said. These disappointed people is part of the hopes of the NDC to receive massive votes, against the NPP government.

He also spoke of businesses that have been negatively impacted by the insensitivity of the Akuffo Addo government. A number of businesses have collapsed over the period of Akuffo Addo’s governance. All the owners of these businesses and their employees, he said are going to vote out Akuffo Addo and his NPP government.

He also referred to the various banks and other financial institutions that have collapsed under the watch of Nana Akuffo Addo is a clear indication that the government has already lost touch with the suffering masses.

When asked about the possibility of the beneficiaries of the free SHS policy voting for the NPP government, Baba Jamal said there is no way these people are going to vote for Nana Akuffo Addo. This he said is because the free SHS program has been very poorly managed by the government and they have done more harm than good.

The host asked him again about the impact of the restoration of teachers and nurses trainee allowances for Nana Akuffo Addo, but the former MP said they will not vote for the NPP again because of the hardship they have been made to go through.

  • NPP lashes NDC for claiming Jean Mensah is a relative of First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo in court

The controversy and feud between the two major Political Party’s in Ghana thus, The New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) comes to a successful end today after the National Democratic Congress  withdraws their allegations upon the Electoral commission (EC) today.

All this controversies started after the Electoral Commission Boss, Madam Jean Mensah announced the introduction of the new voters register ahead of the General Elections. This made the opposition party (NDC) to be aggressive and furious after hearing the news with just a barely 6 months to the Elections.

This has caused a massive protest in the country as the opposition party does not understand the exact reason why the Electoral Commission wants to change the current voters register compilation just because the Electoral Commission Boss is an NPP member which seems to be very sensitive for them.

This made the case to end up in court after the NDC started with a strong protest against the initiating of the New Voters Register besides we’re under a Democratic government so they have the power to do what they like only if it is positive and law abiding to avoid any misfortunes.

The COVID-19 pandemic was also the reason why the NDC was against the new voters register due to the queue citizen’s will form before registering.

Meanwhile, today as the final Justification took place in court, The Communication Officer and Lawyer for the NDC showed up with prove that initially tells that Madam Jean Mensah is a relative to First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo as a result of being bias in the upcoming Elections due to his Political team.

This made the NPP representatives at the Supreme Court today to lambast him for allegating wrongly as they claim Jean Mensah is nothing to Rebecca Akuffo Addo and so therefore Sammy Gyamfi should retract that statement.

The New Patriotic Party has withdrawn their case with the Electoral Commission to bury the hatchet ahead of the December General Elections.

People normally tall on leadership by examples. If the others felt to ignore the protocols, Sammy Gyamfi should have been the one to educate them. But he was busily having fun by the side of Mzbel.

Corona Pandemics is still here. And anyone who wishes to engage in such appearance should try and observe the safety protocols. If not for respecting the President’s directives, for your own health benefit.

  • NDC puts Supreme Court in tough position

It is very certain that our highest court of the land once again finds itself in a tough grounds due to the brilliant submissions of the NDC and an even difficult situation compared to the election petition case of 2016.

Some civil and public associations have been on the nerve of the Supreme Court to make the hearing public due to the public’s interest in the case.

Justices may posses its own basis and debates which are influenced by great philosophers and ideologist, the greater good of the country remaining calm and the sanctity of the apex Court are of much greater concern and comes in to play and not just the arguments put forward by the various counsellors.

The first part of the submission by NDC through their lawyers seeks to get a definitive position on whether the EC can compile another register after the initial one is compiled. If the answer is yes, it opens the flood gates for the EC to compile registers at will but will still require the second part of petition to be considered.

On the other hand, if its a no, it settles the matter and we all go home and work with the existing register being grateful we do not have to look for coins for our friends and relatives to go and pay for documents so that they can queue in this Covid-19 rising season of an average of 300 positive cases a day, in order to register.

If the second part of the NDCs petition is further considered, the SC in my estimation will again have a difficult task as per the arguments the EC has put out. In the event that it goes in favor of the EC, there will be far reaching effects and implications such that:

    a. all the activities of the commission since its existence will be null and void.

    b. if at anytime the EC feels it has sufficient dissatisfaction with its own work, it can elect to compile a new register

    c. the EC has judicial powers

    d. It makes irrelevant the provisions for Adjudication.

    e. Nullifies the essence of concensus building when Adjudicating.

    f. this current commission’s activities are to be without blemishes or human errors which is virtually impossible.

    g. elections for the first time in Ghana will not be Free and as such cannot be fair.

    h. the SC is likely to contradict its own stance.

One vital Constitutional test the SC will have to contend with will be whether by its judgment, elections in Ghana will be Free and Fair or a reserve or the previlaged few who can afford.

From my layman’s opinion, it costs money to obtain a passport or birth cert which implies that, if I need any of these to get a voters ID, in effect, am paying to vote and only those with such disposable incomes will be able to pay and the least expensive of all is GH70.00 for a birth certificate.

A judgement in favor of the EC will further imply that, a state institution has been giving unfettered powers that could open it up to multiple litigations and could be a dangerous precedence in our judicial system and to say the least, could result in an embarrassment to the apex court.

In a larger breadth, such a ruling will open up the judicial process allowing for multiples suits in the various courts surrounding illegitimacy and illigalities referencing the side stepping of internal procedures that resultated in one incedent or the other.

The EC in its defense also argues that its pre 2012 voters cards are of dubious standard in the sight of the EC. Even though the SC did not grant that as a relief in the Abu Ramadan case.

    So a critical questions are:

    1. What is the interest of the EC in presenting itself, as without flaws today.

    2. What is the assurance that if even there were such malpractices within the EC, such will not return because we have seen errors in communication, one too many, which themselves are signs of incompetence.

The EC by its conduct is also spitting on all the political parties and actors who through years of deliberations and considerations helped build consensus on such issues of shortcomings in order for us to forge ahead as a people in unity and strength.

In paragraph 29 of the EC’S submission, they disgracefully attempt to interpret the laws of the Supreme Court which in itself smacks of disrespect and disregard for the authority of the apex house.

They didn’t stop there but went ahead to cry more than the bereaved (forgetting they are referees) to determine by themselves (without concensus with stake holders) through the quotation of their regulations and comparing that to their actions and inactions, and in the absense of sufficient evidence of extent of infractions or any adverse effect on the players who are the beneficial owners of the electoral process, to declare their own actions as fruits of a poisonous tree. Where do they glee such powers from?

It is sad and unfortunate that we are seeing these entrenched positions from non but the referee of the elections. Such a posture or positioning places the actions of the EC beyond its mandate.

The potential effect of a referee being a regulator and player is the interference these conflicting roles creates and for a sensitive election like that which decides the President, the EC must ensure that, the elections are free and fair.

On the other hand, should the SC decide that, no, halt all these process and go into concensus building and try again next year to be without flaws, the over 10m Ghanaians who are estimated to loose their votes will be safe, assured and their rights protected and upheld.

We passionately wait and pray for Godly wisdom and devine understanding for our SC judges as these tough times test their judgement at the highest. History will be made today Thursday June 11th.

  • NDC caught red handed as shocking details of their secret meetings badly exposed

A Shocking secret plot of the Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been badly exposed. The opposition party is said to have convened a meeting which lasted for about 35 minutes. This meeting was to discuss certain agenda they want to pursue in line with their position on the compilation of the new voter’s register and how they are going to deal with the chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs. Jean Mensah.

According to the alleged details of the plot which were exposed by the New Patriotic Party’s Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the NDC has planned to contract some district based officers of the Electoral Commission to deliberately tamper with the biometric verification devices during the registration process. This is intended to slow down the process and to paint a bad picture about the whole process and also give a bad name for the commission.

Another plot is also to contract certain personnel in Mrs. Jean Mensah’s office to sabotage her so they can succeed in exposing her for impeachment from office.

Kennedy Agyapong disclosed that the NDC has planned to pay an amount of $200,000 to each of some four people at the electoral commission to do this work for them. He therefore advised the chairperson of the EC to in her own interest fire her secretary, human resource manager, and other people to to avoid any future embarrassment.

Kennedy Agyapong said that the NDC issue now is that they have access to some sensitive parts of the current electoral register. This allows them to deliberately interfere with the system, so they will never accept any attempt by the Electoral Commission to compile a new one.

  • PLAYBACK: NDC Weekly Press briefing addresses BOST-Movenpina scandal

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is currently holding a press conference to launch what it has described as a corruption tracker to monitor affairs of the ruling New Patriotic Party.

  • NDC will win the 2020 election according to a poll conducted on twitter

Ghana’s politics is one of the most sensitive areas of our lives. Everything related to politics, political parties, or political figures, can spark outrage on various platforms and even in real life.

As elections approach, it is quite normal for people to set in with their predictions on who deserves the presidential seat for the next term of office. This talk of presidential elections normally settles on either the National Democratic Congress (NDC) or the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Even though there are many other political parties in the country, these two are the people’s favourite.

In the bid to satisfy our curiosity before the real and actual general elections in December 2020, a popular Ghanaian Twitter user and influencer, Kalyjay, conducted an anticipatory virtual election poll in which 34,767 Twitter users took part.

The poll was meant to determine the likely winner for the 2020 elections. The voters’ options were NPP, NDC, any other party, and independent candidate.

At the end of the poll, the final results indicated the following percentages:

    NPP – 39%

    NDC – 46%

    Any other party – 8%

    Independent candidate – 7%

It is true that this is not the total number of voters in Ghana. And perhaps there were even unregistered and underaged people who took part in this poll since Twitter is open to all. This is obviously not meant as an official declaration of whoever will win. This was certainly for fun.

But Ghanaians have shown their stance. And going by this poll, NDC will win the 2020 elections.

Well, now my question to you.

Is this how you see events unfolding? Or do you have an opposing view?

  • 2020 elections: Independent presidential aspirants promise to end NDC-NPP monopoly

A Coalition of Independent Presidential Aspirants (CIPA) is poised to change history and deliver to Ghanaians better accountability, better citizen-centred management of its economy and resources, and a long-term agenda that secures Ghana’s posterity.

“The mission is to present to Ghanaians a coalition of Ghanaian leaders in their own fields, with global expertise, and let our people know we have the concern and skillset to unseat and replace the entrenched political NDC and NPP parties in the upcoming Presidential Election,” a release issued in Accra said.

Members of the CIPA) are Mr Kofi Koranteng, a Ghanaian investment banker and real estate investor; Mr Samuel Ofori Ampofo, a retired Ghanaian mechanical engineer, farmer and rural banker; Marricke Kofi Gane, an international development expert, lecturer and chartered certified accountant; Mr Carl Ebo Morgan, a businessman, political scientist and project Management consultant; and Onipayde Ossom Teye, a businessman and welder.

“It is our hope that others who share the vision will see the need to join forces with us for the greater good of God and Country,” the team said.

According to the release, the presidential campaigns of the various Independent Aspirants reached a consensus that the best approach to fight for the survival of Ghana and dispose of the NDC and NPP, was to unite behind a single campaign agenda.

“There is a general realisation and acceptance in the nation that Ghana is at the crossroads of a leadership crisis and that Ghana, as we knew it as an independent nation, may not survive under the heavy foreign debt burden, lack of payback plan, and lack of transparency,” it said

It added that “neither of the two major political party leadership cares enough to understand the real needs of the ordinary people.

“They do not seem fully cognizant of the era we are in and about the youth and their struggles for survival. The leadership seems selfish and greedy and unconcerned about the citizens and the need to plan for posterity.

The team of independent presidential aspirants stressed the need to position Ghana to present a better future for generations.

“Each of these aspirants is pledged to consolidating efforts with a unified Presidential candidate, to win the Presidency in 2020.

Their goal in the next few months is to restore Ghana’s dignity in all sectors of the nation, primarily, agriculture to a high level of modernisation, competitive advantage and productivity; attractive farming communities with basic roads and amenities to attract the youth and a pragmatic and superior educational system linked to job creation for our graduates.

They would also pursue public and private financial capital investment in the Youth such as scholarships and student loans; boost-in loans for small and medium scale businesses and come out with first-class Health care that delivers improved life expectancy as in developed countries and environmental sanitation second to none with 99.9 per cent control of the mosquito breeding and malaria in 3 years.

According to the release the team assures Ghanaians of banning open gutters and making underground sewage systems standard throughout Ghana.

It would also reduce the size of Government by 50 per cent or more, cut the colonial allowance systems, and balance the Ghana government budget within three years and deal with corruption in the most cross-cutting, efficient and ruthless manner within the confines of the law.

  • NDC’s biggest mistake is choosing Mahama as flagbearer – Nana B

National Youth Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye popularly known as Nana B, has said the biggest mistake the largest opposition NDC has made is to make former President John Mahama their flagbearer.

But he says it is to the advantage of the which the ruling NPP.

He argued on Adom FM’s ‘Badwam Mpensenpensenmu’ programme that members of the NDC have regretted choosing ex-President John Dramani Mahama to lead them, but they had no other choice since looking through the hierarchy of their party there was no one to lead them.

According to him, he is the only man in the party who has the capacity to ‘waste’ his money on the 2020 elections since they (members of the NDC) are very much aware of not winning power.

The NPP Communicator noted that former President Mahama keeps providing his party men poor leadership show.

” . . Look, apart from the fact that former President John Mahama is providing his party men with poor leadership advice, he has as well lost track of becoming the President of this state,” Nana Boakye said.

  • Leaked powerful document : Look at a one sheet document that everybody in NDC Is running away from.

The Electoral Commission of Ghana yesterday piloted the 2020 voter’s registration exercise in some selected polling stations all over the country.

It ended successfully with the opposition National Democratic Congress trying hard to put their reputation well in the public eyes. This is because some of their executives secretly abandoned their party’s stand against the compilation and joined the exercise. Notably among them was former member of Parliament Honorable George Loh.

In an interview on Citi FM, Umaru Sands interviewed him why he took the stand and he had this to say :

‘ All my colleague regional executives took part in the exercise. We were instructed through a letter from the Director of Elections and we acted accordingly. Why is George Logs picture the only thing out there? ” He answered in a telephone interview.

In the evening, a document purported to be written by the NDC Director of Elections instructing executives to join the registration exercise popped up. A Letter that placed the last nail in the reputational coffin of the NDC.

This letter everyone in the NDC is trying to tag as fake but was accepted by George Log as the basis of their actions. Everyone is running away from this letter to skip shame.

Why is the NDC so shy to let Ghanaians pardon them for misleading the whole count into believing that the voter’s registration exercise is not worth and they are against it but secretly run to take part of its pilot?

If you don’t eat pork, you don’t help in its preparation let alone giving some for your children to eat. The NDC owes Ghanaians a great apology.

  • It’s not true, they haven’t learnt any lessons – A Plus fires NDC

After series of attacks directed at the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), founder of The People’s Project (TPP), Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has reopened his fire on the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

A Plus says the behaviour of the NDC communication machinery contradicts the ‘we have learnt our lessons’ assertion made by the party leadership after losing the 2016 elections.

His comment comes after the NDC Communication Chief, Sammy Gyamfi, made politics with the death of George Floyd. In a Tuesday’s tweet, Mr. Gyamfi posted a cartoon of the late African-American being trangulated by President Akufo-Addo and EC boss, Jean Mensa, depicting that Ghanaians are being suffocated to death with the impending new voters’ register.

Reacting to this on Facebook, A Plus said the NDC will do better if the party’s communication is rather outsourced to an advertising company or a blogging platform.

“The NDC must outsource their communications to an advertising company or bloggers like GhKwaku, Nkonkonsa and ZionFelix. I’m sure they will do better”, he fired.

According to him, the NDC failed in 2016 after it tried to score cheap political points with the then NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo drinking a popular Ghanaian juice, kalyppo, an indication of a weaker communication team.

“In 2016 they scored an own goal when they attempted to mock Nana with Kalypo”, said Kwame A Plus.

He said people should not take the NDC serious since they have not genuinely learnt any lessons.

“Not long ago they told us to vote for them to come back to power because they have “learnt their lesson.” Don’t mind them. It is not true. They have not leant whuuutey!!!”, his post added.

Member of the National Communications team of the National Democratic Congress, Brogya Gyamfi has called on the Interparty Advisory Committee (IPAC) to join forces to push for the removal of the heads of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana.

According to him, peace and sanity can only prevail in the electoral process of Ghana only if EC Chair, Jean Mensah, and her deputies are removed from office.

“We should remove Jean Mensa and the current EC team from the office, and set up an interim committee with members of all the political parties in the country. This is the only way for peace and to ensure effectiveness in the electoral process.” He told Happy FM.

In his opinion, the sitting heads of the EC have been ineffective and have to be sacked as is a norm in this country for public office holders to be relieved of their duties when they cannot execute their roles effectively.

Citing the lapses in the work of the EC over the years, the politician noted that the law requires the EC to carry out a by-election after 90 days of the death of a sitting member of parliament (MP). “The Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election came off after the 90 days as stipulated by the constitution.”

Furthering his agenda, he added that “How can they invite people to a meeting which starts at 10 am but their letter states 10 pm. Notwithstanding, even the agendas of meetings are not the same as agendas stated in their letters.”

To him, this is not a hallmark of good leadership and with such clumsy people at the centre of affairs at the electoral commission, “how can they be trusted to compile something as important as a new voters register.”

“We should fire these batch of incompetent commissioners and get an interim committee to oversee the affairs of the EC hence, the 2020 general elections. They are trying to cause problems for us and the only way to stop that is to replace them” he reiterated.

  • NDC’s George Loh on why he participated in EC’s pilot voter registration

Former Member of Parliament for North Dayi on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr George Loh has explained that he participated in the Electoral Commission’s pilot voter registration exercise on Tuesday to be sure of how the exercise was ongoing.

There have been concerns that even though the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was opposed to the new register, it was preparing its members to get ready to register.

On social media, some have said Mr Loh’s participation in the pilot exercise was a move which, was not in consonance with the position of the NDC.

But Mr Loh in a radio interview with Accra based Citi FM on Tuesday evening said his participation in the exercise does not change the position of the NDC.

He disagreed with the suggestion that his action was hypocritical to the party’s position.

Mr Loh is currently the Volta Regional Vice Chairman of the NDC.

He participated in the pilot voter registration exercise in the Electoral Commission’s office Ho on Tuesday.

Asked in the radio interview if his action was not something that indicates he has abandoned his party in the cold in relation to the fight against the new voters register Mr Loh said:

“I do not believe that I have said anywhere or our party the National Democratic Congress [NDC] has said anywhere that we have abandoned our position or we have changed our position towards the compliation of a new voters register.”

“We have remained resolute that it is not a wise decision for the EC to say at this time, that they are going to compile a new voters register. and so it is untrue if anybody says that anybody in the NDC, let alone me, George Loh has abandoned our party’s position.”

He said there was no need to mix the issues because the NDC has not said anywhere that it was abandoning voting in Election 2020 and that the party has said that “at best the EC’s option should be a limited registration and not a compilation of a new voters register.

“If it is time for limited registration, the EC will use the system, won’t they? And so if they are piloting what they say are new machines don’t we deserve to know what kind of things they are doing and if there are any hanky panky games we prepare ourselves? So clearly, this thing is funny and all those doing mischief with it should better stop because the card that is being showcased is a dummy card, I cannot use it in any election.”

“So nobody should walk around with their minds thinking that, yes some people have acquired cards and they are going to participate in the voting that is going to happen in the compilation of a new voters register. This card given me has nothing to do with the new voters register, it is only a pilot of a system they say they are bringing, and some of us wanted to be sure, that yes.”

Mr Loh said as a Regional Vice Chairman in the Volta Region, he has a responsibility to ensure that proper things are done in the region and that he was called by the Regional Chairman to go and see what was happening there [EC office] and “I went, and so it is part of my official duty to ensure, and I didn’t go alone, I went with other officers of the party. But I am saying that as a party, we deserve the right to know what is happening at all material times.”

  • Kennedy Agyapong exposes NDC again, says STL and NDC bloated voters’ register by 1.5 million names.

Member of Parliament for Assin Central constituency, Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has exposed the opposition National Democratic Congress on the main reason why they are ‘crying’ against the Electoral Commission’s decision to scrap the old Voter’s register.

According to the outspoken MP, the outcry of the NDC party to oppose the compilation of a new register is because they fear sacrificing their corrupt deals which they did in connivance with the Israeli IT company STL. He states categorically that the NDC together with STL have illegally added 1.5million names to the current voter’s register, and they are afraid of losing those huge bloated numbers.

He therefore said that had it not been the 1.5million ghost votes in John Mahama’s account, Nana Akuffo Addo would have won by about 2.5 million votes difference in the last elections in 2016. This he said is the main reason behind NDC’s vehement objection to the compilation of the new register.

The Electoral Commission of Ghana has set June 2020 as the time of beginning the compilation of a new register for voters, going into the December 2020 Elections.

Meanwhile the opposition NDC has given several reasons why they believe the EC’s decision is not the best. Their main reason currently is that the COVID-19 pandemic makes it unsafe to ask Ghanaians to go through the registration process, but the Electoral Commission is saying they have put measures in place to ensure adherence to all safety precautions to ensure Ghanaians go through the process safely. Initially the party was citing financial reasons for their objecting the idea, saying Ghana do not have the required funding to compile a completely new register, but it seems this point has been dropped now.

But Hon. Kennedy Agyapong believes the NDC has a hidden agenda which they are seriously pursuing. That is to protect the 1.5 million names already smuggled into the electoral system and which guarantees them of a cool 1.5 million votes even before the December general elections is conducted.

Hon. Kennedy Agyapong was speaking on Happy FM’s Epa Hoa Daben political talk show.

  • NDC is a disorderly party with ‘vacillating inconsistent leadership’ – Kwamena Duncan

Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan has described the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as a disorderly party with a “vacillating inconsistent leadership”.

According to Kwamena Duncan, everything the NDC is involved with ends up in shambles.

The National Democratic Congress on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 boycotted the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting with the Electoral Commission on the compilation of a new voters’ register.

Prior to the NDC’s abstinence from the meeting, the party had accused the EC of planning to rig the elections for the governing New Patriotic Party and added that the Commission’s decision to use only the Ghana card and passport as the legal requirements for the registration exercise is a ploy to disenfranchise 11 million Ghanaian electorates.

The party has also filed a suit against the EC in the Supreme Court praying for an order to direct the EC to include “all existing voter identification cards duly issued by the 2nd Defendant (EC) as one of the documents serving as proof of identification for registration as a voter for the purposes of public elections”.

It is also seeking a “declaration that, upon a true and proper interpretation of the provisions of the Constitution, particularly article 42, upon the registration of and issuance of a voter identification card to a person, that person has an accrued right to vote which cannot be divested in an arbitrary and capricious manner”.

Making his submissions on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’, Kwamena Duncan noted that NDC’s opposition to the EC shows the party is in a confused state and made up of unserious people.

He urged Ghanaians not to repose any confidence in the NDC saying they have nothing better to offer the nation.

“It’s a political party that the leadership is in disarray. Their Presidential candidate struggling to find a partner, again five or six months to general elections; you don’t hear alternatives nor manifesto. In fact, everything is in disorder and that is what has attended their character anytime they’re in government,” he stated.

  • NDC parliamentary candidate petitions CID over death threats

Parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Awutu Senya East Constituency, Naa Koryoo Okunor, has implored the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to probe into death threats she has received over the week from assailants.

She stated that the people require that she steps down from her position in order to save her life.

Naa Koryoo Okunor continued that she feels endangered because the alleged “assassins have successfully executed their evil plan on some of our members who are currently dead as stated in their text”.

  • NDC has no regard for rule of law – Kwamena Duncan

Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan has slammed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for accusing the New Patriotic Party of seeking to hold on to power through foul means.

The leadership and members of the NDC have strongly spoken against the compilation of a new voters’ register by the Electoral Commission (EC), and recently upped its opposition a notch higher by accusing the electoral body and the National Identification Authority (NIA) of conniving with the governing NPP to rig the impending general elections.

According to NDC National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, the EC wants to disenfranchise 11 million electorates by making requirements for the Ghana card and passport to be the only legal documents for the registration exercise.

He maintained that the EC and NIA are planning to use the Ghana card and passport as an excuse to skew the elections in favour of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Both bodies – EC and NIA – have refuted the NDC claims saying their intent to use the Ghana card and passport for the registration exercise is not borne out of any ulterior motive but rather to help ”in the elimination of unqualified names in the register”.

The EC assured ”all stakeholders at all levels of its determination to deliver free, fair and credible Presidential and Parliamentary Elections on December 7, 2020 as mandated by law”.

Making his submissions on Peace FM’s ”Kokrokoo”, Hon. Kwamena Duncan questioned the caliber of the people at the helm of affairs of the biggest opposition party, accusing them of having no regard for rule of law in the country.

According to him, the NDC’s position on the EC’s decision to compile a new voters’ register coupled with their notion that National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) card holders should be allowed to register, deviates from a Supreme Court ruling that the NHIS card cannot be used in the country’s electoral system.

”NDC leadership led by Mr. Ofosu Ampofo is very [very] disappointing”, he said to host Kwami Sefa Kayi.

  • Elections or no elections; Ghana should be peaceful – Opanyin Agyekum

The Dean of the School of Performing Arts of the University of Ghana, Legon, Professor Kofi Agyekum, popularly known as Opanyin Agyekum has called on the Electoral Commission and its stakeholders to pre-plan contingency measures for Ghana’s elections.

According to Opanyin Agyekum, the COVID-19 pandemic has shown that there is the possibility of the country’s elections being interrupted, thus the framers of the constitution should take a cue from the current situation.

Opanyin Agyekum was commenting on the clash between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the compilation of a new voters’ register and whether or not the elections can be held in spite of the outbreak of the COVID-19.

Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s ”Kokrokoo”, Opanyin Agyekum called for a consensus among the parties on the issue and advised that there should be peace in the nation whether or not this year’s elections will come off.

”Whether we hold the elections or not, there should be peace…When we finish voting, it should be possible for people to go about their work the following the day and if by chance, we are not able to hold the elections, people should still be able to go work the next day or days ahead. So, this should be our preparations for the six months ahead of us”, he said.

  • Reinstate Savannah Region hospitals within 48 hours or face our wrath- NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Savannah Region has given the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government 48 hours to reinstate the publicly declared hospitals President Akufo-Addo promised to build in the Region or face their wrath.

A statement issued today 19th May, 2020 and signed by the NDC Communication Officer for the Savannah Region Mr Malik Basintale said the NDC in the region have taken notice of yet another denial of their share of the national cake from a very crucial sector such as the health sector even when President Akufo-Addo bamboozled the Region into believing they were part of the beneficiaries on the 26th April, 2020 in his address to the nation.

He said the Region will not continue to be subjected to such hatred and insensitivity by President Akufo-Addo even after claiming “Our brother from Kyebi is better than our Bole-Bamboi brother”.

The NDC said President Akufo-Addo have soon forgotten the existence of the Savannah region adding “we will have to blow the trumpets of the region loud enough for a forceful recognition”.

Malik Basintale said while they are trying their possible best to console indigenes who have been left in great shock by the consistent attitude of President Akufo-Addo in denying the Region projects anytime it is being shared around on paper, they find this not surprising as the Savannah region have been put in a state of “Project freeze” since the inception of the Akufo-Addo led government on the 7th of January, 2017.

He said it is not surprising, that they consistently hear members of the NPP shouting on top of their voices their so-called achievement of creating the Savannah region yet cannot point out to a single project, job or empowerment they have created in the region to the benefit of the people that qualifies the territory as a region.

“The Savannah region has continuously been cheated, ignored and betrayed by the Akufo-Addo led government but this current deliberate denial of constructing district hospitals in our region and completing what had been started by your predecessor H.E John Mahama after facing the whole world to mention that we were included in the beneficiaries, is the highest level of grand deception, fraud, disregard and gross disrespect to the Customs, Chiefs and elders of our land”; Malik Basintale said.

The NDC Communication Officer said what is more worrying is the fact that, out of 16 regions making the nation Ghana, it is only the Savannah region that has been neglected, thrown out and dumped like a piece of tissue paper as 15 other regions have been properly represented on the allocation paper. “How could this be Mr. President? How could you be this insensitive to us?
Is it a crime to have an opposition flagbearer emanating from our region or it is simply a hidden agenda of disenfranchising our region in everything you do due to our natural love for President Mahama?” he noted.

He added: “Why will you mention us in your address to the world, Use the Savannah region inclusive to seek a loan and later turn your back on us denying us just three(3) district hospitals we were promised”.

Malik Basintale in his statement said the John Mahama NDC Government in just the health sector alone provided for the Savannah region with more than 96 CHIPS compounds, district health facilities, health colleges some at various stages of completion among others and yet did not put a stop to projects that were yet to come as other regions were equally benefiting from his national cake. “What has changed Mr. Akufo-Addo? Why will you change your mind on just (3) three health facilities promised our region?” he asked.

Meanwhile an NPP kin pin in the Savannah Region who is the Managing Director of the Ghana Water Company Dr Braimah Clifford has said there are two districts in Savannah without district hospitals and they cannot be left out. He disclosed that the list has been corrected and a release will come out today (19th May, 2020).

Another NPP Activist from the Bole- Bamboi Constituency of the Savannah Region Abudulai Harisu Boresa has also alleged that the list is a sabotage by the Civil Servants at the Ministry of Health.

Abudulai Harisu wrote; “Remember that same sabotage was meted out to government recently when the whole roads projects for Volta region was taken out or omitted by the same civil servants, which took the Finance Minister back to Parliament to correct it”.

He said the NPP respect, value and regard Savannah region million times.

  • NPP will win December polls based on performance Mac-Manu

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has refuted claims by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that it is colluding with the Electoral Commission (EC) to rig the December 7 Elections.

The Party said the President Akufo-Addo-led Government had shown better leadership than the NDC Presidential Candidate, Mr John Dramani Mahama, and based on that the electorate would renew the mandate of the Government in the December polls.

Addressing a news conference to respond to the NDC allegations in Accra on Thursday, Mr Peter Mac-Manu, the NPP Campaign Manager for the December 2020 Elections, said the Party did not need the EC to rig the polls in its favour, but would campaign to win based on its sound track record.

He recounted some achievements of the ruling government including the Free Senior High School that had enrolled 1.3 million children, employment of 100,000 graduates and the support offered to the ordinary Ghanaian during the COVID-19 pandemic.

These include supply of free water and subsidy on electricity as well as the restoration of industry and the economy.

“So we do not need the EC to rig the elections in our favour. NPP will win the election based on our sound track record,” he said.

Mr Mac-Manu noted that all the excuses the NDC was making against the compilation of a new voter’s register was premised on the fact that it could not wrest power from the ruling NPP Government based on performance.

He said even though the NPP would support the EC to compile a new voter’s register and election management system if the election management body wished to do so, the Party would still contest and win the December polls with or without a new voter’s register.

“This is because the Ghanaian electorate have confidence in the ruling NPP government since President Akufo-Addo had shown leadership and sought the welfare of the ordinary Ghanaian over the period of his tenure,” Mr Mac-Manu stated.

He recalled that since 1996 the EC had compiled a new voter’s register every eight years (that is 1996, 2004 and 2012) with the idea of improving the features of the electoral register to ensure the sanctity of the elections.

He, therefore, posed these questions to the NDC: “Why is it that the NDC is against the compilation of a new voter’s register that promises enhanced features? What is it about the 2012 Register that the NDC holds it so sacred? What is it that the NDC holds so sacred that if the register is replaced, it will affect the party’s electoral fortunes?”

Mr Mac-Manu said the NPP was not afraid to face the Ghanaian electorate in the December polls because the Akufo-Addo-led government had distinguished itself over the period and it was evident for everyone to see and make comparison with that of the NDC.

  • There will be chaos in Ghana if 2020 general elections are not held John Boadu warns

General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu has indicated that it is not negotiable that the 2020 general elections “must” be held on December 7 this year.

According to him, “the danger and chaos” that would be brought upon the country if the elections are postponed would be dire than what the deadly Coronavirus could ever cause.

Speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based Angel, John Boadu said the constitution does not make provisions for the order of succession should the President, his Vice, his ministers, all his chiefs executive and Parliamentarians be out of office by the night of January 6 2021 and so the whole state machinery would grind to halt; “if that vacuum is created, it would be dangerous than the coronavirus, because it would create a lot of confusion as to the way forward”.

“So it is a must that the election be held on 7th December, we are not the only people in the world, there are a lot of countries with far more cases of the virus than us but have successfully conducted elections by putting in place strict safety protocols to safeguard the voters; Mali has voted, South Korea has voted, Tanzania would vote in October, so I do not see anybody in Ghana opposing the elections on December 7, so the Electoral Commission must employ every means possible for us to vote on that day or the chaos that this country will go through, it will be more than the Coronavirus”, he said.

The NPP scribe also noted that, his party still holds its stance that the current voter register is not credible and so cannot be trusted for the upcoming general elections, but it cannot force the Electoral Commission to do their bidding.

In view of this, John Boadu urged President Akufo Addo and his government to be mindful of the exigencies of the time and consider easing the restrictions on social and public gatherings to allow the Electoral Commission to compile a new voters register and also allow political parties to conduct their primaries and start their electioneering campaigns.

“The President and the government must continue to have it at the back of their minds that, we must vote on December 7 at all cost and so must begin easing the restrictions on social and public congregations, so that the Electoral Commission can go ahead and do its work; the measures must also be relaxed so that political parties can do a bit of campaigning ahead of the elections”, John Boadu added.

  • Minoritys claims on COVID-19 response plan are untrue and without basis Government

Government has rejected claims by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that it is giving Ghanaians “false hope” by hiding the actual figures about the spread of the Coronavirus infection and saying the country’s situation is under control.

Deputy Information Minister Pius Enam Hadzide, at a press conference in Accra on Friday, said the assertion by the NDC is false and without basis.

Contrary to the claims, Pius Hadzide said the NPP government had been swift and decisive with broader stakeholder consultations in the battle to defeat the flu-like coronavirus.

Pius Hadzide said government has defended its COVID-19 response by showing strong leadership and has been effective and transparent in its management of the pandemic.

At a press conference on Thursday, Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu accused government of not being forthright with the coronavirus figures in Ghana.

“Government should desist from selling false hope of a situation under control and using its management of information as a cover for this farce,” he stated.
He was of the view that it insults the intelligence of Ghanaians.

“We are at 3,000 and you say that we should wait, all is well. All was not well when we were at 200 and 300 (cases). How can it be well at 3000 (cases) and counting?” he queried.

The Minority Leader also claimed that science had been relegated to the background by the President, who is instead relying on signs and wonders.

Responding to this assertion, Mr Hadzide said that could not be true.

He indicated that scientists and health experts had been offering regular updates and briefing, and, therefore, any suggestion about lack of transparency in the COVID-19 fight was mind boggling.

“The NDC cannot be allowed to approbate and reprobate on this matter,” he lamented.

Mr Hadzide noted that government, from the onset, has put in place measures to deal with the pandemic, including the constitution of a taskforce made up of technical persons, “including epidemiologists, virologists, medical doctors, Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service, security heads, and so on.”

“It is this taskforce of persons of reputable background knowledge and expertise that advise the president on the policy options in fighting Covid-19, and not politicians masquerading as medical doctors in partisan Covid-19 teams,” he noted.

The Deputy Minister added that President Akufo-Addo has led “from the front and continues to address the nation honestly and regularly.”

He also debunked claims by the NDC that the government made “no provision for the eventuality of an outbreak”, and cited the initial investment of GH¢35 million announced by the President, which was later ramped up to US$100 million.

According to the Deputy Minister, the minority NDC’s claim of “worsening COVID-19 situation and the national response” was just to cover up its “flagbearer, John Mahama, who has been badly bruised by his politicisation of the COVID-19 pandemic”.

“The misinformation, deliberate distortions and warped analysis put out by the NDC flagbearer has been bemoaned and roundly condemned by many well-meaning Ghanaians,” he added.

Mr Mahama, in a recent political broadcast on Facebook, questioned why the government should go for an IMF facility, and went on to say that no other African country had done so.

In response to that, the Deputy Minister dismissed that as untrue, saying 20 other African countries, including all the ones specifically listed by the former President, had accessed a total of US$18 billion from the IMF to help cushion them through the crisis.

He said it was disappointing that the NDC was unable to provide any practical use alternatives, but continued to propagate the same baseless and unfounded allegations made by its leader.

  • Upper West: NDC demands justice for murdered chairman

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is blaming the Ghana Police Service for delaying in their investigations to unravel the circumstances that led to the gruesome murder of the late Daffiama-Bussie-Issah (DBI) constituency chairman of the party, Richard Bayiviala Polibon.

The late Richard Bayiviala Polibo was murdered at gunpoint exactly a year ago while returning from a funeral in his constituency.

According to the Upper West Regional Organiser of the NDC, Issahaku Nuhu Putiaha, the chairman and his driver were stopped by four men but his driver, upon realizing they were armed, tried to speed off.

He said one of the armed men shot the chairman in his head, killing him instantly.

Police mounted investigations and announced a bounty for anyone with information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

In a commemorative press statement issued and signed by the Daffiama-Busie-Issa constituency secretary of the NDC, James Wor, the party said, “One year on and justice has since not been served. It is a very grievous precedent in the Region. We still demand justice from our security agencies. We need to be told the state of investigation and efforts put in place to bring the perpetrators to book. It is said that justice delayed is justice denied.”

While dedicating the month of May in remembrance of the late chairman, the statement urged his family and the NDC fraternity to continue to keep calm and pray for the soul of late Chairman.

It said, “We will continue to demand justice for him until the security wake up from their slumber”.

Citi News contacted the Upper West regional police command but they declined to comment at the time of filing this report.

  • Martin Amidu is no longer a member of NDC Otukunor reveals

Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Peter Boamah Otokunor has disclosed that Special Prosecutor Martin Alamisi Burnes Kaiser Amidu cannot hold himself anywhere as a member of the party.

He told Accra-based Happy Fm in an interview monitored by MyNewsGh.com that the Citizen Vigilante who launched acerbic attacks at some persons within the party prior to his appointment has not been expelled but left voluntarily.

“Martin Amidu is no longer a member of the NDC. You recall that he himself told us he had resigned from the NDC in view of the fact he was taking up an appointment as Special Prosecutor. We never sacked him but he left himself and as we speak we do not have his name in our books as a member”, he revealed.

Host of the show was questioning the NDC Executive if same fate that has befallen former Central Regional Chairman of the NDC will be applied to Mr Amidu.

It would be recalled that in February 2018, Martin Amidu disclosed that his appointment as Special Prosecutor does not compel him to resign from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) but was quick to add that his appointment automatically makes him impartial.

“ If you read Section 3 of the Criminal Offences Act, the definition of a public officer includes a potential public officer, so when the President nominated me and announced it to the whole world, I became a potential public officer, recognized under the Criminal code as a public officer, so as far as I am concerned, since that day , I am neutral, and that is why you have not heard my voice over the air saying anything because I am coming to an office which has to be neutral and impartial.

“One does not need to resign. The Supreme Court has held that while you are a public officer you cannot take part in party politics. I think it involves Dr. Adjei and co. I did that case in the Supreme Court, so I do not need to make a formal resignation of anything.” He said.

  • You’re propelling Bawumia for 2024 presidential seat – Allotey Jacobs to NDC

Allotey Jacobs, a former NDC Central Regional Chairman, has advised the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to stop their incessant attacks on Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

In recent developments, the Vice President and former President John Dramani Mahama have been comparing track records of the previous government and the incumbent Akufo-Addo administration.

Mr. Mahama has been holding digital conversations where he addresses the nation on pertinent national issues.

During one of such regular digital conversations, Mr. Mahama touted his achievements stressing he has an outstanding track record than President Nana Akufo-Addo and accused the current administration of putting the economy on ventilators because the Coronavirus pandemic has exposed the latter’s bad governance.

“Just one month of this Government funding just some sections of the economy and vulnerable persons at home due to the coronavirus, our economy has gone to the ICU and is in tatters now and needs critical health examination,” said former President John Mahama.

He also alluded to the President’s promise of constructing 88 Regional and 6 district hospitals in the country, saying the Akufo-Addo administration has plagiarized his ideas and repackaged them as new policies.

“In his last broadcast and indeed previous ones, the President echoed many of the ideas and policies I have previously outlined. It is gratifying to note that he is listening. Any addition to our health infrastructure is ordinarily welcome but it is regrettable that it had to take COVID-19 to jolt him into this civility about the importance of such critical investments in healthcare…he fundamental difference between our two respective positions is that I come to the table with an outstanding track record of actually delivering many of such projects with less resources than he has had in the last three and half years. Fellow Ghanaians, the NDC comes to the table with a clear plan of modernization of our healthcare system. This plan considers global best practices and will have features that guarantee equitable access to quality healthcare for all Ghanaians,” he said.

In a rebuttal to the comments by the former President, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia noted that Mahama superintended a very weak economy where the provision of “common chalk” was even a problem.

To Dr. Bawumia, Mahama has no track record except creating economic misery for Ghanaians.

”We saw that even during dumsor, electricity prices were being increased, fuel prices were being increased, teacher trainee allowances were being cancelled, nursing trainee training allowances were being cancelled. All of that was happening during that particular crisis,” he expounded, stating further that ”if you want to test the robustness of an economy, you test it in a time of crises. Thankfully, we have had two crises. Under the NDC, it was an internally-generated crisis, which was dumsor. Under the Presidency of Nana Akufo-Addo, there has been an externally generated crisis, which has been the global Coronavirus pandemic.”

“They left us with declining agriculture, declining industry, interest rates were high, inflations was high. In fact, if you look at the data in terms of macroeconomic performance, in any economy since the year 2000, the tenure of the former President was the worst in terms of outcomes in macroeconomic performance…Common chalk was even a problem in our schools,” he added.

The challenge which was started by the former President has also taken a political dimension with leadership and members of the NDC and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) going head-to-head about which government deserves the thumbprint of the Ghanaian electorates.

Touching on the issues on Wednesday’s ‘Kokrokoo’ on Peace FM, Allotey Jacobs stated that the strategy by the NDC to respond to Dr. Bawumia whenever he talks may backfire in the face of the party.

According to him, what the NDC needs to be doing is not to delight themselves with giving quick replies to the Vice President, but rather look for someone from the party to match his calibre.

To Allotey Jacobs, the party is somehow throwing aimless political missiles at Dr. Bawumia and as a result, preparing him for the 2024 Presidential seat.

“My own party says I shouldn’t speak for them. Some even claim I am NPP in NDC cloth. Others have no clue how NDC was formed. If I decide to talk right now, it will become an issue. They claim I have collected money to elevate Bawumia but I’ll always advise that there is an elder in every home.

“…my advice to the NDC is you’re setting a platform for Vice President Bawumia for 2024. That’s what you’re doing if you don’t know. It is resonating with the people, the elite class and the middle class,” he emphatically stated.

  • Don’t blame me, blame God – Allotey Jacobs fires NDC again

Bernard Allotey Jacobs has fired back at his saboteurs stating they can’t ruin his life with their pull-him-down syndrome.

According to the former NDC Central Regional Chairman, there is a strong supernatural force behind him and no attempts to cause his downfall, particularly in the political realm, will succeed.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), in a statement issued on Wednesday, May 6, 2020, has suspended Allotey Jacobs as a member of the party.

The party revoked the membership status of Allotey Jacobs citing reasons that he has persistently exhibited an “anti-party conduct”.

The decision was taken after a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and has referred to the Disciplinary committee for further action.

Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on ‘Kokrokoo’ on Peace FM, Allotey Jacobs sent a strong warning to his opponents and enemies to stop pursuing him because “where God has positioned me in life is not my making”.

“The truth is that nothing surpasses God. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of Ishmael; He’s one God nothing surpasses Him. The faceless, the boneless, the shapeless God; He who says and it is done is the one I serve. I love God . . . to all my opponents and enemies, the truth is that don’t blame Allotey Jacobs. Blame God . . . it is by His grace and His mercy that I’ve been where I am,” he said.

  • Ill continue to trumpet the good of NPP as a truthful person Allotey Jacobs

Embattled former Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Bernard Allotey Jacobs insists he would continue to sing praises of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) once what they do is for the good of the country.

He disclosed that he is committed to the ideals and ideologies of the NDC dismissing claims that he is in bed with the NPP as claimed by some leaders of his party.

According to him, his stance on praising the current government when it does good things is tailored towards changing the narrative in the political discourse in the country.

“How could I be in bed with the NPP, facts are facts, when something is good about the NPP I will say it, when it is wrong, I will talk against it. You see there is the need for us to change the kind of narrative or we have to change our political discourse, you see we need to grow our politics in this country”. He revealed on Accra-based Joy Fm monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

Bernard Allotey Jacobs in February last years said since his party the NDC has barred him from representing them on political talk shows, he now speaks as a social commentator whose principle is the truth.

Allotey Jacobs came under attack after MyNewsGh.com reported that he had commended president Akufo-Addo for procuring 307 ambulances for Ghana.

“The interior of the state of the art ambulances recently commissioned and distributed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo can give life back to a dying patient… [..] .. We all should face facts if you look at the inside and see the equipment and colour design it looks very attractive. If you are at the point of death, the colours in the ambulance can give you the vim to survive. The inside is great,” Allotey said.

“All those ambulances that were brought into the country from the Kufuor to Mahama regimes must be added to the current fleet. If they are the need to retool them, they should so we carve a new ambulance system. It would be prudent for the government to supply them ambulances to the Regional and Teaching Hospitals,” he added.

  • Your ‘Inferior Communist Tactics’ won’t work, stop denigrating me – Allotey Jacobs to NDC

Former NDC Central Regional Chairman, Allotey Jacobs, has issued a caustic warning to his party members to stop denigrating his reputation.

Allotey Jacobs had addressed issues regarding President Akufo-Addo’s promise to construct 88 District and six Regional hospitals in the country within a year, last week on Peace FM.

He admonished the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to cease its verbal attacks against President Nana Akufo-Addo over the latter’s pledge to construct the hospitals, and further advised the party to adopt a wait-and-see approach to know whether the project could even be rolled out before attempting to shoot it down entirely.

“If he says he will construct them, we have to exercise patience and watch him. Where is he going to get the funds? How is he going to start? Should he claim to have started one or two, bear in mind that the residents in whose districts the hospitals are being constructed can bear witness or otherwise. So, for me, it is premature for him to be criticized because you’re even urging him on to even find resources to start the projects . . . If he can do it or not, what is important is that 88 districts in this country needs hospitals.

”When it’s getting close to elections and he hasn’t begun, then you can call out his bluff, but it’s too early to even say that it will be difficult or impossible to find the resources to complete it,” he said on ‘Kokrokoo’ on Wednesday, April 29, 2020.

On the same platform, the party’s National Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi challenged the composition of the panel stating strongly Allotey Jacobs doesn’t represent the NDC any longer and his submissions do not reflect the position of the party either.

Sammy Gyamfi’s comments seem to have courted hatred for Allotey Jacobs as he narrated to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Wednesday, May 6th edition of the show that some members and supporters of the opposition party have begun pitching him against the grass roots.

Contributing to a panel discussion on ‘Kokrokoo’ on Peace FM, the former NDC guru noted that his saboteurs even went as far as miscontruing his words claiming he has accused former President John Dramani Mahama of being corrupt, and also associated him with other false reports.

Allotey Jacobs warned those people to immediately stop badmouthing him stressing he is not deterred by their ”inferior communist tactics”.

”President Mahama knows I will not in anyway denigrate his name. A person like me who has been propounding that President Mahama is not corrupt, then I turn round but it is coming from my own people . . . My people won’t go to Peacefmonline to watch and listen to the entire programme. That is what I am going through and then they’re pitching me against the grass roots, organizers and so forth but I’m not deterred.”

  • Listen to ‘elderly wisdom’ – Allotey Jacobs to NDC

Social Commentator and former NDC Central Regional Chairman, Allotey Jacobs has jabbed some young members and activists in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who, to him, have suddenly grown wings in the party.

Stopping short of pinpointing exactly who those characters are, Allotey Jacobs bemoaned the conduct of some of these young generation in politics, asking them to lift the political discourse.

He was contributing to a panel discussion on Peace FM’s ”Kokrokoo” Morning Show on Wednesday, April 29, 2020.

Earlier on, the National Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, speaking on the same platform, had treated with disdain President Akufo-Addo’s promise to construct 88 district and 6 Regional hospitals in the country.

To him, the President is only taking advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic to solicit votes from Ghanaians in order to win the 2020 elections.

He doubted the President’s commitment to the project saying ”this promise made by President Akufo-Addo is a grand deception calculated for votes and not intended to be kept. President Akufo-Addo has realized that he has failed Ghanaians. He couldn’t utilize the power given him about four years now for development especially in the health sector regarding the health of Ghanaians. He has failed Ghanaians woefully but he has realized this year is an election year and is more concerned about deceiving the people to win their votes. The first point I want to make and make very forcefully is this promise is an absolute lie…The President doesn’t have any good intention to put it into good use”.

Sammy Gyamfi made further claims that the Akufo-Addo government had abandoned hospital projects by erstwhile Mahama administration citing the Bank of Ghana hospital which, to him, was established by former President John Dramani Mahama; an assertion that was repudiated by seasoned journalist Abdul Malik Kweku Baako who was also on the panel.

Sammy Gyamfi and Kweku Baako entered into a heated debate over ownership of the Bank of Ghana hospital.

Taking his turn to address issues on the programme, Allotey Jacobs reminded the young generation that he has been in their position before saying ”when we were young, we behaved as children but now we have grown”.

He therefore advised young politicians to listen to wisdom from their elders because having an adamant posture to corrections won’t help them in their political journey.

”We are in a political age of maturity. So, we should look at Ghana first when issues are raised but with the young people today, I don’t know whether it is personality cult, personality worship; so when you express your view about this COVID-19, then it means you either supporting this or against this. So, they have to get on your nerves…When you explain yourself, it appears the young ones who have come up, I don’t know the force pushing them but they will not listen to wisdom or reasoning…This country has to move forward”, he exclaimed.

  • Blows at NDC press conference in Effutu

Some members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Effutu constituency of the Central region have exchanged blows during a press conference on Saturday to speak against what they say is the illegal suspension of some party executives.

Four executives within the constituency including Deputy party treasurer, the Communications Officer, and an aspiring parliamentary candidate who lost the primary have reportedly been suspended indefinitely.

But the affected persons have strongly contested their suspension insisting their suspension was unlawful as they’ve not violated any provision of the party’s constitution.

Speaking to the media to air their resentment, the ‘suspended’ Communications officer, Alexander Dadzie condemned the attack meted on them which he alleged was orchestrated by some party executives led by former Constituency Chairman, Paa Nii Lamptey.

Mr Dadzie said: “We were attacked by some macho men wielding sticks and other weapons for no wrong down. We were only exercising our constitutional duty which we are entitled to. I have been hit with an offensive weapon and other persons were also hurt. This is bad and must be condemned by all.”

He called on the NDC national executives to take control over affairs of the Effutu constituency and ensure there is peace in the party failure of which the party will perform abysmally in the upcoming December general elections.

Other stalwarts within the constituency have blamed the new Parliamentary candidate James Kofi Annan for being the root of division in the party ever since he was acclaimed a few months ago.

They claim his machinations soon after joining the NDC party caused the illegal suspensions.

  • NDC reports suspicious meeting to police after injunction on EC workshop

Police at Airport are investigating a complaint lodged by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over an ongoing meeting at the City Escape Hotel in Accra.

The party suspects that the said meeting is a conference by the Electoral Commission (EC) which the court stopped from taking place after an injunction secured by the Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George.

The injunction was however issued for a meeting scheduled to take place at the City Escape Hotel in Prampram.

The injunction is in place from April 24, 2020, to April 27, 2020.

Though there are several government-registered vehicles in the premises of the Hotel, it is unclear if the said workshop is ongoing.

Police from the airport command are currently at the hotel premises.

The EC was planning to hold a national planning meeting and a training workshop to prepare and plan for the upcoming voter registration exercise.

The programmes were scheduled to take place from Apri 24, 2020, to April 29, 2020, at the City Escape Hotel.

The meeting was to be held in three different batches in order to observe the social distancing protocols amidst the outbreak of the coronavirus in Ghana.

The plans for new register are currently on suspension because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The voters registration exercises was initially scheduled to begin on April 18, due to COVID-19.

Following the suspension, the EC had said it is collaborating with health experts to decide on a more favourable date depending on the prevalence rate of the virus.

  • Avoid false sense of security coronavirus not under control in Ghana NDC team

The NDC technical team on COVID-19 has urged Ghanaians to avoid a false sense of security following the decision by President Akufo-Addo to lift the coronavirus lockdown on Accra and Kumasi.

According to the team, the virus is not under control in the country and therefore removing restrictions is dangerous.

“If government has data outside what has been presented publicly that has informed this decision, we request public disclosure in order that we can continue to support a non-partisan push to win the day.

“Until that information is available, we encourage Ghanaians to avoid a false sense of security and continue to stay at home as much as possible, avoid non-essential movement and respect all health protocols outlined from the onset. We remain committed as technical experts to our primary goal to share information that protects the right of every Ghanaian to prepare, fight and defeat this virus,” the team said in a statement.

The statement also warned the situation could get out of hands with the lifting of the restrictions.

“Members of this Technical Team are acutely aware of the vulnerability of the economic circumstances of a vast majority of Ghanaians who have struggled with daily food supplies in this period. Indeed, many team members have been directly involved in daily interventions where government interventions have unfortunately been woefully lacking.”

“We are confident that the options we proposed in our community impact mitigation strategies should apply in favour of protecting the lives of all Ghanaians from further risk of infection and potential morbidity. In addition, every country that has been touched by this virus has suffered significant economic difficulty.

“The true test of the fiscal resilience for every country has been in the quality of the planning and preparation as well as the seriousness with which the pandemic has been managed. We propose that in Ghana, if we are to turn the tide, far more organized and strategic work is urgently required to cushion our citizens from the multiple negative economic implications of COVID-19. Our position is that the virus is not yet under adequate control in Ghana to merit any ease of restrictions on movement at this time.”

“We are mindful of the fact that a backlog of tests from samples of about 10,000 took us from 600+ cases to 1000+ cases. With over 18,000+ samples yet to be tested, there is a higher probability that our cases may surge as we are yet to get to our peak. We believe these backlog samples are from primary or secondary contacts who have in turn made several contacts in the chain of human interactions and whose test results are yet to be ascertained.”

“Looking at the return to activities defying the basic social distancing protocols as recommended, we put ourselves in a very precarious situation for a potential second wave of infections,” the statement added.

  • ‘Politicians value votes more than human lives’ – Thomas Yankey

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2016 parliamentary candidate for Jomoro Constituency in the Western Region, Mr. Thomas Yankey popular known as ‘Nobody’ has called out the Akufo-Addo-led government for lifting the partial lockdown amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

President Akufo-Addo on Sunday announced the lifting the 3-week lockdown on Greater Accra and Kumasi, with effect from Monday, April 20.

Addressing the nation on Sunday, April 19, 2020, the president, however, stated all other social distancing measures are still in place. Churches, Schools both Public and Private, will still remain shut.

According to the president, the decision to enforce the 3-week lockdown was taken to give Government the opportunity to try to contain the spread of the virus, scale-up effectively the tracing of persons who had come into contact with infected persons, test them for the virus, and quarantine those who tested positive and isolate them for treatment.

But, according to him (Thomas Yankey), the lifting of the lockdown is to allow the Electoral Commission of Ghana to embark on the controversial new voters’ registration exercise.

“One thing comes to mind instantly. It is a known fact that the EC is hell-bent on compiling a new register in spite of all factors, especially the timing and the outbreak of this Pandemic, indicating that it will not be in the interest of the nation. With the lockdown making it impossible for this agenda to be executed, as exemplified by the illegal and unsuccessful attempt by the NIA to defy the directives, and go ahead with the registration thereby endangering human lives in pursuit of this overall agenda, it has been decided to end the lockdown prematurely so that there will be a little time for which a case can be made to push the new voter registration agenda through”, he claimed this in a statement issued and copied to the media.

“This lends credence to believing that our politicians are attaching more importance to their votes than the lives of Ghanaians which is unfortunate and unacceptable. Apart from the new voter registration, what major reason will inform the rushed-decision to lift the lockdown when it is urgently needed at this time??”, he quizzed.

He advised, “I therefore urge Ghanaian leaders to take a second look at this decision before the situation gets out of hand (God forbid). It is too early to lift the lockdown!”

“I also urge all Ghanaians and media practitioners to use their platforms to re-echo this call since we all need to help in the fight against this common enemy, Covid-19”, he added.

    Below is the full statement

LOCKDOWN LIFTING IN GHANA – VOTES BEING VALUED OVER HUMAN LIVES

The President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency, Nana Akufo Addo in a televised announcement on Sunday April 19, 2020, lifted the lockdown of those few parts of the country when, in reality, the opposite should have been done. In other words, the entire country should have been locked down.

A look at some figures will help explain my stand:

As of the time of writing this article, 11:52pm on Sunday April 19, 2020 ( U.S. time), the number of deaths in the U. S was 40,524; new deaths stood at 1, 510 and total infections were 763,579.

Total number of deaths in Spain was 20, 453 with 198, 674 infections and the third country, Italy had 178, 972 infections with 23,660 total deaths according to the world Health Organization. This is how dangerous the virus is, just as the disease it carries!

One major reason for these astronomical deaths in these countries, especially in the United States, is that the virus was underrated and the necessary precautionary measures were not taken until they were taken unawares. This should be an experience for the rest of the world, including Ghana.

It is a fact that Ghana’s initial approach in handling the pandemic has been encouraging and commendable but, it is the end that always matters!

At the time of this piece, Ghana had recorded, 1,042 infections and 9 deaths. Though the numbers seem low, a number of factors may explain these low numbers; complacency should therefore not set in now, it will spell the unexpected. There is the urgent need to finish the good work that has been started – making sure that the initial directives are intensely observed and extended throughout the country as the pandemic continues to spread throughout the country, otherwise in the end, work done will be zero. Therefore, why the rush to do the opposite by lifting the lockdown at this time?

One thing comes to mind instantly. It is a known fact that the EC is hell-bent on compiling a new register in spite of all factors, especially the timing and the outbreak of this Pandemic, indicating that it will not be in the interest of the nation. With the lockdown making it impossible for this agenda to be executed, as exemplified by the illegal and unsuccessful attempt by the NIA to defy the directives, and go ahead with the registration thereby endangering human lives in pursuit of this overall agenda, it has been decided to end the lockdown prematurely so that there will be a little time for which a case can be made to push the new voter registration agenda through.

This lends credence to believing that our politicians are attaching more importance to their votes than the lives of Ghanaians which is unfortunate and unacceptable. Apart from the new voter registration, what major reason will inform the rushed-decision to lift the lockdown when it is urgently needed at this time??

I am also tempted to believe that probably, without letting Ghanaians know, they have received some ‘fake and deadly vaccines’ from abroad, which has strengthened their belief that the situation is under control now; but one cannot give you what she/he does not have. No country has any reliable vaccine yet.

I therefore urge Ghanaian leaders to take a second look at this decision before the situation gets out of hand (God forbid). It is too early to lift the lockdown!

I also urge all Ghanaians and media practitioners to use their platforms to re-echo this call since we all need to help in the fight against this common enemy, Covid-19.

Thank you all and may God bless the people of Ghana.

    Signed!

  • Coronavirus: NDC, NPP clash over Deputy Chieftaincy Minister’s false alarm

Supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) clashed over a statement by the Deputy Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Mr. Paul Essien that Nzemaland had recorded one case of the Coronavirus epidemic.

On Easter Monday morning, the Deputy Minister who doubles as the MP for Jomoro went on a private radio station called New Day FM in his Constituency to announce that Nzemaland had recorded the Coronavirus and warned residents in the area to fear one another.

Mr. Essien made the radio broadcast a day after the Ghana Health Service had announced that the Western Region had recorded its first case of the Coronavirus at Anto in the Shama District.

The Ghana Health Service did not name the particular District in the Region which had recorded the case but the Deputy Chieftaincy Minister quickly went on air blow an alarm that the case was found in the Nzema area.

Later in the afternoon, the Western Regional Minister, Mr. Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah issued a press statement which indicated that the case was recorded at Anto in the Shama District.

The Deputy Minister’s announcement therefore put fears in residents of the entire Nzema area and has been condemned by some residents in the area.

While the NDC is condemning him, the NPP seems to be justifying and defending him.

In a statement issued by the NDC and signed by its Communications Officer, Patrick Ellonu, copied to the media, they have described the Deputy Minister’s statement as falsehood and malicious.

“The Deputy Minister who should have known better went to the gutters to disgrace his office and the people of Jomoro whom he represents in the Parliament of Ghana, on a radio station in the Jomoro Municipality known as New day FM by stating it clear that ‘Ellembelle has recorded one case of the Coronavirus’ without verifying the authenticity of his statement from the Health Directorate of the Ellembelle District”, the statement read.

“After our checks and further crosscheck from the Health Directorate at both the Jomoro Municipality and that of the Ellembelle District, it was found that the Deputy Minister’s statement was not only falsehood but also malicious”, the statement added.

The NC by the press statement called on the MP to render an unqualified apology for causing fear and panic and after which he must also resign as a Deputy Minister.

“We the NDC members in Jomoro are therefore calling the braggadocios MP who has nothing to show in his three and half years to come out and apologise to the good people of Nzemaland and after resign honourably for disgracing us ,because such a caliber can not be paid with our tax payers money”, the statement demanded.

“A member of Parliament who continues to disgrace his Constituents whenever he gets any opportunity to speak on National issues can not continue to lead a serious Constituency like Jomoro”, the statement emphasized.

The statement hinted that, “We state without any equivocation that if Hon. Paul Kabenla Essien refuses to apologise and resign as well as a member of Parliament and also a deputy minister we will petition the President and the speaker of Parliament for his misconduct”.

But in a sharp rebuttal, the governing New Patriotic Party through its Constituency Secretary, Eric Muah has justified the statement made by Mr. Paul Essien on New Day FM in the area.

“For the records, the Hon. MP spoke passionately on New Day FM’s Morning Show about the need to adhere to the precautionary measures put in place to combat the COVID19 pandemic. His passionate appeal to his constituents was based on the numerous calls he received that the directives were being flouted”, the statement explained.

“Prior to the MP’s comment on New Day FM, the renowned Adom TV had announced a recorded case of COVID19 in Ellembelle District. For the passionate love he has for his people, the Hon MP, reminded the people to adhere to the precautionary measures put in place by the Health team of the ruling NPP government”, the statement added.

According to the statement, the MP did not mention Ellembelle District.

“As usual, the NDC, with no alternative to making Jomoro better for their 20 beautiful wasted years, found this as an avenue to make a political fortune”, the statement stressed.

“Now, our question to the NDC, why didn’t you report the correspondent of Adom TV since they made it clear that Ellembelle had recorded a case? DESPERATION LEADS TO SHAME”, the statement quizzed.

According to the NPP, the NDC is desperate for power hence their hatred against Mr. Paul Essien.

“This, no doubt, is a show of desperation. We are reminding the NDC that Non-NDC Ghanaians do not have short memories as purported by their Presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama”.

The NPP party in the Jomoro Constituency is therefore, calling on the NDC in the area to do issue based politics.

“We would like to use this opportunity, like we have always done to ask our brothers to divert from their outmoded and super incompetent ways of politicking and upgrade”

“Issue based politics is what is invoked, they must embrace it”, the statement concluded.

  • President Akufo-Addo not interested in saving Ghanaian lives Asiedu Nketia alleges

General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has insisted that the priority of the Akufo-Addo-led government in this COVID19 crisis is not to fight and defeat the pandemic but rather to win elections in order to retain power.

According to Asiedu Nketia, in this critical time, President Akufo-Addo and his government are “majoring in the minors and minoring in the majors” as all their plans and actions are evidence to this effect.

Citing a case in point to justify his argument, the NDC General Secretary argued that the recent comment by Lawyer Sam Okudzeto, a member of the Council of State vindicates his claim that winning elections is the major priority of the Akufo-Addo-led government.

Sam Okudzeto in a recent interview advised the Electoral Commission to commence its planned voter registration exercise in areas in the country outside the partial lockdown directive since the coronavirus pandemic in Ghana is not that severe.

Commenting on the statement on Accra-based Okay FM on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 however, Johnson Asiedu Nketia emphasized that the comment from the former President of the Ghana Bar Association is clear evidence of a sinister plan by President Akufo-Addo to take advantage of the pandemic and win elections.

“The evidence to what I have been saying is what he [Sam Okudzeto] is saying. You are people that the nation has elected to advise the president on how the issues of this pandemic can be solved.  Whether nurses are dying, he seems not to care as a council of state member to suggest ways to fight the pandemic. However, the council of state members opens his mouth and it is about elections and how they can retain power,” Asiedu Nketia expressed.

He continued, “So if somebody does not agree with me on what I have been saying, is this not the evidence? The prime of the objective of the government is how they can retain power and not about the lives of people. With this mindset, all that they are doing are things to take advantage and win elections and retain power and that is where they are wrong.”

  • Akufo-Addo stealing our COVID-19 ideas to win favour from Ghanaians Asiedu Nketia

General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has accused the governing New Patriotic Party of stealing their ideas to win points and support from Ghanaians.

According to the outspoken General Secretary, the Akufo-Addo-led administration is implementing some of their recommendations without recognizing that it came from the NDC.

President Akufo-Addo during his fifth address to the nation announced relief packages by the government as it strives to limit the impact of the virus on social and economic life. Among such interventions is the absorption of water bills for all Ghanaians for the next three months, roll out of a soft loan scheme up to a total of GHC600m which will have a one-year moratorium and two year repayment period for micro, small and medium-scale businesses, a tax holiday for frontline health workers for the next three months and an additional allowance of 50 percent of their basic salary per month for April, May, and June among many others.

The announcement by the President caused wild jubilation among Ghanaians because most of their burdens have been taken away with some commending President Akufo-Addo for rolling out such interventions during this pandemic period.

But the NDC insists the reliefs announced by the government were borne out of the recommendations they gave on how to deal with the pandemic and its impact on the economy.

According to Asiedu Nketia, the NDC raised concerns over the lack of preparedness on the part of the government when the disease started spreading to other countries.

However, the NDC does not want to take credit for that since the focus is to fight the virus, asserting the collaboration between them and the government has not been the best.

Speaking in an interview on Rainbow Radio, Asiedu Nketia further accused government of manipulating information to create an image or argument that favours their political interests.

“The government is only focusing on information management so it will create a public image they are comfortable with. Their focus is not about managing the health crisis. The government values the information aspect of the fight. For them, however bad the information is, they want to manage the information to create a better public image.”

”This is defeating the lockdown. When you complain, they will say it is not true. If we give Ghanaians the right information, they will not violate the lockdown directive,” he added.

He insisted government is not being truthful with the infection rate as well as total persons infected.

President Akufo-Addo yesterday, April 5 disclosed that Ghana is entering the critical phase of the COVID-19 fight as the Ghana Health Service awaits the results of about 15,000 people and these results are expected to determine the fate of the country in the fight against the virus.

But reacting to it, Asiedu Nketia said the information given by President Akufo-Addo is questionable.

“How do we track the progress of their information? The core objective of the government is to manipulate the release of the information to control public opinion for them use it for politics. That is the summary of what is happening,” he said.

Communication officers are to engage the media via phone calls, Skype calls as well as other new communication platforms.

  • Coronavirus Lockdown: NDC halts all in-studio discussions

The National Communications Officer of the opposition, National Democratic Congress(NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has announced that the party has suspended all in-studio discussions in lockdown areas.

The government has imposed a partial lockdown on some areas in the country including Greater Kumasi, Accra, and Tema.

Although there is a partial lockdown, essential service providers have been exempted considering the fact that their work plays a direct role in the help to contain the virus and also keep the country alive.

According to him, the virus spread when people move so a key role to help stop the spread of the virus is by not moving hence the reason to halt all in-studio discussions in areas where a lockdown has been declared.

  • NDC, PNC walk out of IPAC meeting

Some four political parties including the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the People’s National Convention (PNC) walked out of an ongoing Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting.

In the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, the EC in line with the President’s directive on public gathering resolves to divide the parties into two different groups and thus asking one member to represent each party.

Chairman of the PNC Bernard Monah is unhappy with the EC’s arrangement and believes the EC should have chosen a bigger venue to contain all representatives.

The NDC earlier sent a request to the EC to postpone all future meetings indefinitely due to the Covid-19 outbreak but the EC says it can not grant such a request.

They also requested that if the activities of the EC is essential then a bigger venue should be chosen for such a meeting going forward.

The meeting is currently underway and the NPP, PPP and representatives from the LPG are engaging the EC.

This is not the first time the NDC has walked out of an IPAC meeting as they did the same in December last year.

The EC will also meet APC and the other less active political parties all in the name of discussing whether there should be a postponement for the April 8 Voter’s registration exercise or not.

The Electoral Commission has had to deal with firm opposition ever since the decision to compile a new Voters’ Register surfaced.

Even though there are calls by these opposition parties to rescind this decision, the EC says the compilation of the voters’ register will begin in April.
