The rest is left to divine providence – Words of Adutwum after casting ballot

Flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has voted in the party’s internal polls at St. George Catholic School in the Bosomtwe Constituency.

About 1,042 delegates are expected to cast their ballots at the venue.

After voting, Dr Adutwum told journalists that he was thankful to party officials and supporters in the constituency for their dedication to his campaign.

“I am very appreciative of the work that has been done by the leaders of this constituency, rallying around me to campaign for me. They have done everything it takes to ensure that we end this race with pride. And we are ending with pride,” he said.

He reflected on his political journey, describing his candidature as a product of divine direction.

“If someone had told me growing up that one day I would run for the flagbearership of a major party like the NPP, even if the person was a prophet, I would have said no, not me. But today, I am here. Divine Providence has brought me this far,” he noted.

Dr Adutwum said he is optimistic about his prospects in the contest, noting that reports from his campaign agents nationwide have been encouraging.

Responding to a question on whether he anticipates victory at the end of voting, he said, “By the grace of God. I’ve done what human beings can do. The rest is left to Divine Providence.”

Touching on party cohesion after the election, Dr Adutwum described himself as the candidate best positioned to unite the party going forward.

“I have always maintained that I am the most unifying of all the contestants. On the campaign trail, I never said anything untoward about any of the aspirants. So none of their followers will have a problem following Dr Yaw Adutwum. I ran a dignified campaign,” he stated.

The New Patriotic Party is conducting its nationwide internal elections to choose a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwah has predicted Former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to win 14 out of the 16 regions.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, January 28, he noted that Dr. Bawumia would sweep massive votes in the party’s stronghold, the Ashanti Region.

He added, “Yes, [Bawumia will win in 14 regions out of 16 regions].“All the areas we have looked at are pointing in one direction, and that direction is that Bawumia will win this Saturday’s election one-touch.

According to him, “Based on our model, his lowest score will be 54 percent, which is the 57 percent we are giving him minus the three percent margin of error, or he could get up to 60 percent”.The Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics emphasised that the data is consistent across all regions. “I am very confident in Bawumia’s numbers because they are more stable in terms of variability. There is no noise in the data,” he added.

Last year, the National Tracking Poll by Global InfoAnalytics disclosed that 56 per cent of voters and 72 per cent of committed NPP delegates want former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as their flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

According to the poll, 28 per cent of voters are rooting for former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, with 6 per cent each for Dr Bryan Acheampong and Dr Yaw Osei-Adutwum, and 4 per cent supporting Kwabena Agyapong.

Among NPP delegates, 19 per cent want Kennedy Agyapong, while Dr Bryan Acheampong records 4 per cent, Dr Osei-Adutwum 3 per cent, and Kwabena Agyapong 1 per cent.

The poll was conducted between December 1 and December 21 across all 16 regions of the country. Methods used include a combination of web-based, telephone, and face-to-face interviews.

In October 2025, the Pan-African civil society organisation Sanity Africa, which predicted the victory of Bernard Baidoo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the tightly contested Akwatia by-election, released its Phase Two survey on the NPP presidential primaries.

According to the organisation’s survey, there has been a shift in the landscape as the party gears up towards the January 2026 primaries.

The abridged October report suggests that Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, popularly known as Ken, has strengthened his lead among NPP delegates, commanding 53.1% of voting intentions, representing a 1.7 percentage-point increase from the Phase One survey conducted in July.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia (DMB) trails with 39.0%, indicating a 3.2-point drop. Behind them are Dr Bryan Acheampong at 5.0% (up 1.9 points), Dr Yaw Osei-Adutwum at 2.0% (down 1.0 point), and Ing. Kwabena A. Agyepong at 0.9% (rising from 0.3%).

The survey, carried out between July and October 2025, sampled 15,000 delegates from an estimated 218,000 in the expanded voter album across all 276 constituencies.

It boasts a 99% confidence level with a ±5% margin of error. At the regional level, Ken Agyapong sits atop as the leading candidate in 10 out of Ghana’s 16 regions, including strongholds such as Ashanti (54.8%), Central (69.0%), and Eastern (54.8%).

His biggest contender, Dr Bawumia, on the other hand, still holds his lead in the northern sector, with an advantage in the remaining six regions. He leads in the North East (70.0%) and Upper West (60.2%). Competitive races are unfolding in Bono East, Savannah, and Upper East, where margins remain slim.

Notable shifts include Dr Bawumia widening his lead in the North East Region from 51.6% to 70.0%, while Ken strengthened his position in Volta (50.8%) and Bono (53.0%).

Dr Bryan Acheampong registered significant gains in his home region of Eastern, rising to 21.7%. Sanity Africa noted that these shifts reflect evolving delegate sentiments influenced by campaign strategies and regional dynamics.

The organisation emphasised that while Ken Agyapong currently has the upper hand, the contest remains fluid. Endorsements, messaging, and campaign strategies, it said, are expected to play critical roles in shaping the outcome.

With Phase Three of the survey scheduled for release in January 2026, Sanity Africa concluded that Ken may be the one to beat, but the race is far from over.

However, the Global InfoAnalytics tracking poll named Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the people’s preferred candidate to lead the NPP into the 2028 general election, ahead of his closest contender, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

The poll suggests that 57% of voters prefer Dr Bawumia as the party’s presidential candidate, while 29% picked Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

The other contenders—former Minister of Education Dr Yaw Osei-Adutwum (6%), Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr Bryan Acheampong (5%), and former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong (3%)—trailed behind.

In the critical swing regions of Greater Accra, Central, and Western, Dr Bawumia also led decisively with 57%, followed by Kennedy Agyapong at 32%. Dr Adutwum and Dr Acheampong each secured 4%, while Kwabena Agyapong obtained 3%.

The survey further indicated that in a potential runoff between Dr Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong, Dr Bawumia would extend his lead with 62% against Agyapong’s 38%.

  • National Service to begin on Nov. 3 as registration officially begins today

National Service to begin on Nov. 3 as registration officially begins today

The National Service Authority (NSA) has announced the commencement of registration for the 2025/2026 service year, beginning today, Wednesday, October 8, 2025. The registration exercise will close on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

In a statement, the Authority explained that the new registration process follows President John Mahama’s directive to overhaul the previous Central Service Management Platform (CSMP), which was found unsatisfactory after a Technical and Forensic Audit.

The NSA said it has since developed a more secure and efficient digital system designed to promote transparency, strengthen data protection, and allow real-time verification of applicants’ information.

It noted that all registrations completed in June 2025 have been rendered invalid due to data integrity concerns, including inconsistencies in age and identity details. As such, all prospective National Service Personnel are required to re-register on the new platform.

The Authority assured that individuals who legitimately registered during the earlier exercise will receive full refunds of their service fees.

“All previous registrations from June 2025 have been declared null and void. Every prospective service personnel must re-register on the new platform,” the statement emphasized.

Meanwhile, the NSA announced that all National Service Personnel are expected to report to their assigned postings on Saturday, November 1, 2025, ahead of the official start of the service year on Monday, November 3, 2025.

Months ago, the National Service Authority (NSA) revealed that 3,500 graduates risk not participating in the 2025/2026 national service programme over invalid accreditation by 22 tertiary institutions.

According to the Authority in a press release dated Tuesday, June 17, it received 135,990 submissions for this year from 122 tertiary institutions; however, “3,597 of these submissions, representing graduates from 22 institutions, have not been processed, as those institutions are currently not accredited and remain unknown to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).”

The Authority has therefore issued a 30-day ultimatum to the tertiary institutions that are yet to renew their licenses.

NSA cautioned that unaccredited tertiary institutions that miss the deadline to regularize their status will negatively impact their students’ chances of participating in the 2025/26 national service.

“This is part of broad efforts to clean up the national service system and safeguard public resources,” the NSA said in a statement.

The NSA is yet to give details of the tertiary institutions that currently possess expired accreditation.

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission has been working to ensure that all tertiary institutions in the country meet the required accreditation standards.

In 2024, it announced a temporary halt to the processing of new accreditation applications for academic programs in all public universities, including technical universities.

Meanwhile, PIN codes for 132,393 prospective national service personnel ahead of the 2025/2026 service year have been released.

The NSA indicated that this year’s intake dropped by an average of 26% compared to the past three years, with a 36% decline in 2022/2023.

908 PIN codes for private applicants are currently awaiting final verification from the related institutions to be released.

In a related event, Deputy Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Fuseini Donkor, has explained that personnel under the scheme will undergo a military orientation programme, not full military training.

This is due to a newly introduced module by the incumbent government aimed at building discipline and preparedness among Ghanaian youth.

In March this year, the National Service Authority (NSA) deployed the first batch of trained teachers for the 2025/2026 national service year.

A total of 13,700 graduates from accredited teacher training colleges will begin their service in various educational institutions across the country.

In an announcement, the NSA directed all assigned personnel to verify their placements and complete necessary documentation. “All deployed Service Personnel MUST log onto the Authority’s website at www.nsw.gov.gh to check their placements and print their appointment letters for endorsement from their designated User Agencies,” the statement read.

The newly deployed teachers are expected to begin service on April 2, 2025, while the regional validation process will take place from March 26 to April 11, 2025, at all NSA regional centers nationwide.

Reaffirming the mandatory nature of national service, the Authority cited the governing law: “Per the National Service Authority (Act 1119) 2024, every Ghanaian citizen who has attained the age of eighteen (18) years or more and has completed an Accredited Tertiary Institution is MANDATED to undertake national service to the State.”

  • I’m the most prepared person to lead NPP in 2028 elections – Bawumia

I’m the most prepared person to lead NPP in 2028 elections – Bawumia

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 flagbearer and former Vice President has indicated that his experience and achievements make him the most prepared candidate to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2028 general elections.

Engaging party faithful on August 28, the former Vice President noted that being regarded as the most effective Vice President in the 4th Republic proves his capability to lead this country as its president.

“Many people say I have been the most effective Vice President in Ghana’s history. This implies that given the opportunity, I can equally become one of the most effective presidents in Ghana as we go forward

I demonstrate my strength by getting results, not by making noise or by insulting or bragging about money. The combined effect of how well Bawumia is known today and my experience as Vice President make me the most prepared person for the NPP’s quest for the 2028 election and governance in 2029,” he said.

He made the comments after filing his nomination forms to participate in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries slated for next year.

Dr Bawumia noted that he owes the NPP a duty to provide it the most prepared candidate.

“I am offering myself to be elected as flagbearer because I believe we owe a duty to this party to give her a choice to put forward the most prepared candidate for the 2028 election and the most prepared person to be president in 2029.

In the last 16 years, I’ve had the privilege of joining each and every constituency at least five times to work hard on the ground and campaign and work for the NPP,” he added.

Videos sighted on social media showed scores of NPP sympathizers trooping to NPP headquarters ahead of Dr. Bawumia’s filing process.

On Tuesday, July 29, the NPP opened nominations for its 2028 flagbearer position. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s 2024 flagbearer and former Vice President, Kennedy Agyapong, Kwabena Agyepong, and Dr. Osei Adutwum have all picked up nomination forms.

Former General Secretary of the NPP, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, officially filed his nomination forms on Tuesday, August 26. Party executives received the nomination forms from former Assin Central MP and presidential hopeful Kennedy Ohene Agyapong on Wednesday, August 27. Former Food and Agric Minister Bryan Acheampong has also filed his nomination forms. Dr Adutwum is expected to file his nomination forms today.

In the meantime, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has received strong backing from 268 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), who paid him a visit in June to pledge their support.

Former Energy Minister and running mate of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 presidential candidate, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has decided to throw his weight behind Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the party’s presidential primaries in 2026.

In an interview on Asempa FM on August 26, the former minister noted that he remains grateful to the former Vice President who decided to make him his running mate despite the many individuals who advised him to do otherwise.

According to Dr Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as Napo, Dr Bawumia was engaged countless times by some bigwigs in the party to pick someone else to be his running mate.

“I am not ungrateful. Look at this big party and upon all the people who were praying for the running mate slot, he ignored all of them and made me his running mate.”

“I know it was a difficult situation, but a lot of people don’t know. Some bigwigs in the party went to Dr Bawumia to tell him not to make me the running mate but he ignored them. There are some names that if I mentioned, you would be shocked. Some even took him to offices to advise him against me but still he chose me,” he remarked.

He thus said; “So, I cannot be ungrateful to him… For those who stood in the flagbearership contest, everyone knows Kennedy Agyapong is my friend, but I am still for Bawumia.”

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has made room for new additions to its already approximately 220,000 delegates who are eligible to vote in its presidential primaries slated for Saturday, January 31, next year.

In a statement dated August 26, signed and shared by the Secretary of the Presidential Elections Committee, Williams Yamoah, the party announced that registration has been opened for an additional 60,000 new delegates, which include nineteen new categories of people. This directive follows reforms adopted at the party’s National Annual Delegates Conference held in Accra on Saturday, July 19.

The statement explained: “In accordance with Article 13(1)(11) of the Constitution of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and pursuant to the motion on transitional provisions adopted at the National Annual Delegates Conference held in Accra on Saturday, July 19, 2025, the following new categories of Party officials and dignitaries have been included in the upcoming Presidential Primary voter register.”

The updated voter register, also known as the party album, will now include several new categories of officials and dignitaries. These are: all former regional and constituency executives, members of the National Council of Elders, 30 members of the National Council of Patrons, all past national officers, former party-card-bearing MPs and parliamentary candidates, as well as former party-card-bearing ministers and deputy ministers.

Other groups added to the list are external branch executives, former external branch executives, and key members of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON), including presidents of recognised institutions, the National TESCON Coordinator, regional coordinators, and one TESCON patron from each institution.

Additionally, 10 members from each Regional Council of Elders, 10 patrons from each region, and five members and patrons from each constituency have also been included.

The statement directed that “all officers that fall under the categories above are requested to register their names with their respective organisational structures, including the National Secretariat, Regions, Constituencies and External Branches, as applicable, with immediate effect.”

To make the registration process easier, the statement clarified that a digital link would be circulated to External Branch Executives for online registration. All other qualified members were advised to liaise with their respective regions and constituencies to register.

However, the forms are to be accessed via the party’s official website. “The registration form may be downloaded from the Party’s official website. For ease of reference, a sample copy is hereby attached,” excerpts of the statement read. The statement further warned that the registration was strictly for the aforementioned categories of people, with a deadline set for Friday, September 19.

“The deadline for registration is Friday, September 19, 2025. Please be advised that this registration exercise is exclusively open to officers and members who meet the aforementioned criteria. The Presidential Elections Committee shall undertake a comprehensive verification and validation of the Party’s album to ensure that only an authentic and credible register is used for the conduct of the presidential election,” the party cautioned, while expressing confidence in members’ cooperation.

“We count on your usual cooperation and adherence to this directive in furtherance of the Party’s commitment to fairness, inclusiveness, and transparency.”

The NPP is on a journey of reset, reinforcement, and healing following its historic defeat in the 2024 elections. Dr. Bawumia lost the 2024 presidential election, with John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) securing 6,328,397 valid votes, representing 56.55%, against Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61%.

Since the beginning of this year, the party has undertaken several reforms to position itself strongly against its main opponent, the NDC, and to recapture power.

Among these reforms is the abolition of the electoral college in favour of a broader base of delegates. The party has also added 19 new delegate categories and granted amnesty to suspended members.

The NPP has announced that suspended members have been reinstated, and all charges against those facing the disciplinary committee have been dropped.

This decision was taken by the National Council during an emergency meeting held on July 25. In a statement dated August 16 and signed by the Acting National Chairman of the Party, Mr. Danquah Smith Buttey, members were informed that as part of measures to ensure unity and cooperation, all banned members had been given the right to return.

“This measure reflects the Party’s unwavering commitment to fostering internal cohesion, strengthening solidarity, and preparing collectively for the political tasks ahead.

“I write to inform you that the National Council, at its Emergency Meeting held on Friday, July 25, 2025, resolved, in the interest of unity and reconciliation, to grant a General Amnesty to all Party members who have been suspended or whose disciplinary cases are currently pending before the appropriate disciplinary bodies,” parts of the statement read.

The party further urged all relevant bodies, including Regional and Constituency Executive Committees, to reinstate suspended members in accordance with laid-down rules and guiding principles.

“We hereby serve notice that this directive lifts all such suspensions and nullifies any ongoing proceedings against affected members,” the statement added.

However, the party clarified that this recall does not apply to members who willfully forfeited their membership. In cases where such individuals wish to return, they are required to submit a formal reinstatement request to the party’s secretariat. Upon acceptance, a two-year ban will be imposed, preventing them from contesting in any internal elections.

Kennedy Agyapong to submit nomination forms for NPP primaries on Wednesday

Executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are expected to receive the nomination forms from former Assin Central MP and presidential hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, for the party’s 2026 presidential primaries on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

This was disclosed by the Nhyiaeso MP and a key member of Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team, Stephen Amoah, on Monday, August 25.

According to him, Kennedy Agyapong will lead the team to meet the executives at the party’s headquarters in Accra.

Several prominent party figures have already publicly signalled their intent to contest, including Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum (former Education Minister and Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe), Bryan Acheampong (Member of Parliament for Abetifi), and former party General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong.

The NPP on Tuesday, July 29, opened nominations for its 2028 flagbearer position. Aspirants will pay a whopping amount of GHC100,000 for nomination forms and GHC500,000 as filing fee.

“Any member of the party wishing to apply for nomination as the party’s presidential candidate will obtain the nomination forms after paying a non-refundable Nomination Fee of One Hundred Thousand Cedis (GHc100,000) in Banker’s Draft in favour of the NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY HEADQUARTERS, ACCRA.

“The filing fee for the presidential nomination is five hundred thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc500,000) to be paid in banker’s draft in favour of the NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS, ACCRA,” a part of the party’s statement signed by General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua, read.

Nomination forms may be obtained from the Office of the General Secretary at the Party Headquarters, Asylum Down, from now to August 28. An aspiring presidential candidate shall be required to pay a development fee as determined by the National Council.

This comes after the opposition party officially released its presidential primaries timetable on Friday, July 25, following a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra. The statement informed interested candidates to pick up their forms by Tuesday. It also noted that by August 28, all forms should have been submitted, as the party is expected to move into the vetting mode by September, approximately a month after they close the flagbearer nomination.

“Nominations will be opened on July 29, 2025, for all persons interested in contesting for the flagbearer to pick their forms. Vetting will be conducted from September 15 to 22, and the election to choose our flagbearer will be held on January 31, 2026.”

The National Executive Committee has urged both candidates and supporters to uphold the tenets of the party to uphold peace and harmony. “All aspirants and their supporters are reminded to uphold the values of the party and refrain from divisive conduct during the campaign period.”

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former vice president and the NPP’s flagbearer in the 2024 election, is widely considered the frontrunner, followed by the former Assin North Member of Parliament and Kennedy Agyapong, a former contender for the flagbearer primaries.

The former vice president has already declared his intention to run again. His popularity among the party’s grassroots is strong, and recent endorsements have added momentum to his campaign.

The earlier-than-usual opening of nominations for the flagbearer position, according to the party, forms part of their restructuring and strategic measures taken to ensure transparency and discipline in the selection process, as well as give ample time to the flagbearer to engage members, stakeholders, and other members of the international community to set the required tone for the 2028 elections.

The nominations’ opening comes about six months ahead of the party’s presidential primaries, scheduled for January 31, 2026. Ahead of the 2016 general elections, the NPP opened nominations in March 2014 and held flagbearer elections on October 18, 2024, marking 25 months ahead of the elections.

However, in 2025, they have declared nomination openings in July and a primary set for January 2026, which is about 35 months ahead of the presidential elections. According to the party’s constitution, it is required that at least six months’ notice be given ahead of the primaries.

The NPP’s presidential race is expected to be an intense one this time around. Kennedy Agyapong’s position as the strongest contender for Dr. Bawumia has been complemented by a recent survey conducted by Sanity Africa, a Pan-African civil society organisation, between April and June 2025, which showed Kennedy Agyapong leading with 51.4% delegate support, ahead of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who had 42.2%.

Ahead of the flagbearership race, Ken Agyapong has received prophecies about his victory. Ahead of last two years’ presidential primaries, the four candidates—Dr. Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, former Food and Agricutlure Minister Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie, and former Member of Parliament for Mampong Francis Addai-Nimoh, who vied for the flagbearer position, signed an agreement stating that following the primaries, “candidates will accept election primary results, promote peace and cohesion.”

In the NPP’s previous presidential primaries in November 2023, Dr. Bawumia secured 61.47% of the total votes from nearly 200,000 NPP delegates, emerging as the victor, while Ken Agyapong secured about 37.41%. Dr Bawumia held a meeting with his closest contender at his residence in Accra.

After being announced as the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate, Kennedy Agyapong threw his support for Dr Bawumia. “So, party members we should put everything behind us, and let’s unite this party…, I believe we can break the eight, and that’s what I’ve been preaching,” Kennedy Agyapong said.

Dr Bawumia lost the 2024 presidential election. John Dramani Mahama, who ran on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), bagged 6,328,397 valid votes, representing 56.55%, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia secured 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61%.

Meanwhile, ahead of the pending flagbearership race, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has received backing from 268 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), who visited him in June to pledge their support.

“Following extensive consultations with all aspirants, and after a thorough assessment of their vision, competence, and commitment to the NPP’s progress, we are convinced beyond any doubt that Dr. Bawumia is the best candidate to lead the NPP to victory in 2028,” the MMDCEs said in their statement after the engagement.

“Our endorsement is not merely symbolic; it is a strategic and operational commitment. With 95% of us having previously served as constituency and regional executives—some for over 16 years—we possess an intimate understanding of the NPP’s structures, dynamics, and electoral needs. We will deploy this experience to ensure Dr. Bawumia’s message resonates in every corner of Ghana,” they added.

Also, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on June 19 received 60 Members of Parliament from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who announced their endorsement of his bid for the party’s flagbearership position. The delegation ended up having an in-camera meeting with the 2024 flagbearer.

The delegation included former Finance Minister Mohammed Amin Adam; Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah; Member of Parliament for Akuapem North Sammi Awuku; Techiman South legislator Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah; Habib Iddrisu, the Member of Parliament for Tolon; Member of Parliament for Assin South, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, and Nana Adjei Baffour Awuah, the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South.

Over 250 MMDCEs have not endorsed Ken Agyapong – Fmr Adenta MCE

Former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) have distanced themselves from reports suggesting that they have endorsed former Assin Central legislator Kennedy Agyapong, ahead of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries.

Former Adenta MCE, Doku Ebenezer, addressing the press on Monday, June 23, confirmed that MMDCEs had an engagement with Mr Agyapong, but at no point did they endorse his candidacy.

“Kennedy Agyapong invited all of us; I was there. But we did not throw our support behind him. His assertion that over 250 MMDCEs came to endorse him is false.”

“We are reading a statement today on behalf of all of us. No statement was read during the meeting. We spoke, wined and dined, and then we left. Today, we are making this clear with an official statement,” he explained.

Former Vice President and 2024 flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has received endorsement from a group of 220 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) who served under the immediate past government.

The group wants the former vice president to lead the party once again during the 2028 general elections.

Dr. Bawumia engaged the MMDCEs in Accra on Monday morning as part of his stakeholder consultations.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on June 19 received 60 Members of Parliament from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who announced their endorsement of his bid for the party’s flagbearership position.

The delegation ended up having an in-camera meeting with the 2024 flagbearer.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Minister for Agriculture Bryan Acheampong, and former Minister for Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum have declared their intention to contest the flagbearer position.

Reports indicated that the majority of the 88 NPP legislators in Parliament are for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

This comes after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) announced Saturday, 31st January 2026, as the date for its presidential primaries.

The decision was taken at a crucial meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) held on Tuesday, 17th June, and later confirmed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, and also in an official statement.

“And the National Council today also made the decision that the date for our presidential primaries is set for January 31, 2026. That will be the date that we shall hold our presidential primaries,” parts of the statement said.

This sets the stage for a decisive contest to elect the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

The primaries are anticipated to attract significant interest from both longstanding members and new contenders seeking to lead the NPP into the next electoral cycle.

Party officials also noted that nomination guidelines, timelines for campaign activities, and the code of conduct for aspirants will be released in the coming weeks, with the NEC promising party members a transparent and credible process that upholds the democratic values of the party.

NPP presidential primaries set for January 31, 2026

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially announced Saturday, 31st January 2026, as the date for its presidential primaries.

The decision was taken at a crucial meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) held on Tuesday, 17th June 2025, and later confirmed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua and also in an official statement.

“And the National Council today also made the decision that the date for our presidential primaries is set for January 31, 2026. That will be the date that we shall hold our presidential primaries” parts of the statement said.

This sets the stage for a decisive contest to elect the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

The statement also revealed that “the Committee also spoke about the time for our presidential primaries. And again, the Committee agrees that that decision does not warrant amendment of our Constitution”.

The primaries are anticipated to attract significant interest from both longstanding members and new contenders seeking to lead the NPP into the next electoral cycle.

Party officials also noted that nomination guidelines, timelines for campaign activities, and the code of conduct for aspirants will be released in the coming weeks, with the NEC promising party members a transparent and credible process that upholds the democratic values of the NPP.

Also speaking in an interview with Channel One TV on Tuesday, 17th June, Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, explained that the seemingly early date slated for the party’s primaries is intentional.

He noted that it is meant to give the chosen flagbearer a head start in policy communication and to foster stronger connections with both the international community and the business sector.

He believes this will reposition the party as a credible and prepared alternative ahead of the 2028 general elections.

“It is going to market the candidate enough, particularly in terms of building contacts with the international community, the business community, and stakeholders across the globe,” he noted.

“We will have sufficient time to communicate our policies effectively and hold the government accountable.”

Also, given the NPP’s current minority status in Parliament, with only 88 seats, he believes an early start will help intensify external engagements.

“We need someone who can rise above internal distractions and rally support nationally and beyond to keep the government in check,” he added.

  • Mahama currently the most prepared President in Ghana – Gabby Otchere-Darko

Mahama currently the most prepared President in Ghana – Gabby Otchere-Darko

New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko and founder of Asaase Radio, Mr Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has labelled President John Mahama as the most prepared in Ghana’s politics, given his experience and rise through the ranks

He made these remarks during an appearance on Asaase Radio on Monday, June 16.

He cited the president’s rise from an assemblyman — where he gathered valuable experience — to vice president, and now to his current position as Ghana’s first gentleman, serving a second term.

He said, “I think the current president is probably the most prepared president we’ve had. From assemblyman (sic)to where he is now, vice president, president, you’ve been in opposition, seen who your real friends are, learned from your mistakes, identified missed opportunities, and now you’ve been given another chance.”

He, however, acknowledged that despite his experience, he risks being unable to deliver on all his campaign promises — especially those targeting the country’s many ‘unforgiving’ and unemployed youth.

Citing how the political environment has evolved with the presence of social media, exposing the government’s actions and inactions to massive scrutiny.

“The youth are unforgiving. They want jobs. They voted for you because they expect their aspirations to be met by your 24-hour economy policy and other promises.

Satisfying them in this world of social media, new media, where every government action is overexposed and exaggerated, is a huge challenge,” he noted.

Consequently, he suggested that the government create an enabling environment which will enhance opportunities, rather than direct employment, urging the youth to pursue their aspirations with hard work.

“Your role is not to fulfil people’s aspirations directly, but to create the enabling environment for them to pursue those aspirations. If the government does that, creating space and opportunity, the youth must also put in the hard work to realise their goals.”

In another related development, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko’s Asaase Radio was ordered to shut down by the National Communications Authority (NCA), making it one of 62 FM broadcasting stations directed to immediately suspend operations on their respective frequencies due to persistent violations of regulatory requirements.

  • Contradictory reports on status of Alfred Kumi’s pregnant wife emerge

Contradictory reports on status of Alfred Kumi’s pregnant wife emerge

There are contradictory reports surrounding the current state of the wife of a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alfred Ababio Kumi, who has been charged with publication of false news.

Alfred was picked up by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) and National Security operatives today.

Following his arrest, General Secretary for the NPP, Justin Frimpong Kodua, noted that Alfred’s wife suffered a miscarriage.

“I have had discussions with his wife, and indeed it is true. It is a very sad thing that has happened today. In the midst of the trauma, she suffered a miscarriage,” Mr Kodua is quoted to have said on Joy FM’s midday news today by MyJoyOnline.

However, Alfred’s lawyer’s submission after his client got charged suggested otherwise.

Engaging JoyNews, Clement Opoku on whether his client will spend the weekend behind bars, he said “I would never wish that for him. It’s a Friday. If you heard the family in the media earlier, the wife is an expectant mother. She will need the husband around.”

Alfred Ababio Kumi has petitioned President John Mahama to dissolve the committee probing the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

Reports from a top executive of the opposition party, the general secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, and confirmation from Alfred’s mother confirm his arrest by the officials.

“All patriots should rush to Adenta Kumi’s house, as over 20 CID and National Security officers are there to pick him up,” the General Secretary wrote in a post on social media.

The petitioner’s mother who engaged Asaase Radio in an interview said: “They broke the door to his house. They brought a paper (search warrant) but I didn’t take a look at it. They said they need to have a conversation with him so they took him away.”

Prior to his pickup, Alfred Kumi, in his petition to the president, stated that he witnessed three Supreme Court justices—including two members of the committee—having dinner at a restaurant in Accra.

He named the individuals as the chairman of the committee, Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, Justice Samuel Kwame Adibu-Asiedu, and Justice Yonny Kulendi.

His claims are yet to be verified following the publication of the video that captured the justices by the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo to disprove the allegations.

Meanwhile, the opposition party has accused the government of abusing the rights of Alfred Kumi.

“Whatever reason they may have, whether it is linked to the petition or any other matter, he still has a fundamental human right.”

“His human rights have been abused because that is not a way to arrest and detain a person. At least the due process must be followed,” General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua.

    Background

A series of petitions have been filed against Chief Justice Torkornoo, beginning with one from a group known as Shining Stars of Ghana.

The group alleges she violated Article 144 of the Constitution by personally recommending judges for promotion to the Supreme Court, and further claims she ruled on a case involving the Speaker of Parliament without granting him a hearing, despite his refusal to respond to the suit.

Another petition from a police officer who is also a lawyer accuses the Chief Justice of manipulating evidence and abusing her authority, following an incident during a Supreme Court session where he was reportedly reprimanded, arrested, and detained. However, court records suggest the lawyer’s conduct during proceedings prompted a unanimous caution from the bench, not just the Chief Justice.

A third petition, submitted by a private individual, lists 21 alleged misconducts and four claims of incompetence. Among the accusations is the misuse of public funds—specifically, that she spent over GH¢261,000 and $30,000 on a family trip abroad in 2023 and misused an additional GH¢75,580 and $14,000 during another foreign assignment without proper accountability.

Subsequent reports indicate two more petitions have been added to the list, intensifying pressure on the judiciary.

Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, in her written response to President Mahama, strongly denied allegations of misconduct and abuse of office brought against her by senior police officer describing them as baseless and lacking grounds for her removal from office.

A five-member committee has been formed to investigate the matter. The committee is chaired by Supreme Court Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, and includes Justice Samuel Kwame Adibu-Asiedu, former Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo, Major Flora Bazwaanura Dalugo of the Ghana Armed Forces, and Associate Professor James Sefah Dzisah of the University of Ghana.

    Legal matters arising

Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Ekow Vincent Assafuah, has moved to challenge the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, filing an application at the Supreme Court to injunct the presidential decision.

The notice of motion, dated April 24, is a direct response to President John Dramani Mahama’s April 22 suspension of the Chief Justice, which was carried out in line with Article 146(6) of the 1992 Constitution after consultations with the Council of State and a determination that a prima facie case existed.

According to Mr Assafuah, the process that led to the Chief Justice’s suspension violated constitutional provisions, as she was not informed of the petitions nor given an opportunity to respond before the President engaged the Council of State.

He further described the actions taken thus far, including the formation of an investigative committee, as “a farce and the product of a pre-conceived orchestration to unconstitutionally remove the Chief Justice from office.”

Ekow Vincent Assafuah filed an injunction application to halt the process for the removal of the Chief Justice; however, this application was also dismissed by the Supreme Court on May 6.

The second interlocutory injunction application challenging the process for the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo from office has been thrown out by the apex court.

The Supreme Court, by a 4 to 1 majority decision, deemed the application by a private citizen, Theodore Kofi Atta-Quartey, unmeritorious on Wednesday, May 21.

The five-member panel comprised Justices Paul Baffoe-Bonnie (Presiding), Issifu Omoro Tanko Amadu, Yonny Kulendi, Henry Anthony Kwofie, and Yaw Asare Darko. Justice Yaw Asare Darko was the only one who disagreed with the majority’s opinion.

    Justice Torkornoo heads to court

Suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has headed to the Supreme Court to prevent the committee set up by President John Mahama to probe the petitions seeking her removal from office.

She is also requesting the apex court to halt her suspension issued by the President under Article 146(10) of the Constitution until a final determination is made on the matter.

On Wednesday, May 21, her legal team at Dame and Partners filed an interlocutory injunction application.

The defendants per the writ, are Attorney-General Dr Dominic Ayine, Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, Justice Samuel Kwame Adibu-Asiedu, Daniel Yao Domelovo, Major Flora Bazwaanura Dalugo, and Professor James Sefah Dzisah.

The plaintiff has prayed the apex court to restrain the committee from proceeding with any further inquiry as well as prevent Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, the acting Chief Justice, from participating in the process.

    Experts react to Torkornoo’s suit

A former Director of the Ghana School of Law, Kwaku Ansa-Asare, believes that Justice Torkornoo should have first sought counsel from the Judicial Council before heading to the apex court.

“The Judicial Council has been established to aid successive Chief Justices to behave themselves. So if an incumbent Chief Justice has a problem, her first port of call should be to seek counsel. I don’t think that has been done,” he said.

Director of Legal Affairs for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, described the suspended Chief Justice’s move as interesting.

“I’m happy that the suspended Chief Justice is going to have the benefit of how the justice system works. Just like any one of us, her leadership may need the benefits of the very justice she, together with others, over the years, delivered to people,” he said while engagaing the media in an interview.

NPP charges Otumfuo to suspend Ghana Premier League until Pooley’s death is resolved

Tema West Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwasi Poku, has urged the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to ensure justice for the deceased Kotoko fan, Francis Yaw Frimpong, also known as Pooley.

He emphasized that the Asantehene should use his influence to suspend the Ghana Premier League until the investigation is completed and justice is served to Pooley’s family.

Poku called for the Kotoko community to unite and hold the authorities accountable, honoring Pooley’s unwavering support for the club.

During an interview with Angel FM, Poku praised Pooley’s steadfast support for Kotoko, which he said added excitement to the league.

“Otumfuo should stand firm and ensure that the league is suspended, even if it takes six months, to ensure justice is served. Pooley was a lively supporter who made the game interesting.

“He would travel long distances to watch matches and even buy his own ticket without the team’s support. He once traveled from Kumasi to support Kotoko at Kwaebibirem. We need to encourage such dedicated fans, not harm them,” he said in Twi.

He also commended the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, for his swift actions in handling the case.

“The IGP has handled the issue well so far, and his speed in working on the case is commendable,” he added.

Asante Kotoko fan, Pooley was stabbed during a melee at a Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman and Kotoko on February 2, 2025.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) have banned Nsoatreman from using their home venue and initiated a probe into the violent incident.

There’s no future in politics for you, quit – Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamaklo advises Alan Kyerematen

A founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has urged Alan Kyerematen, leader of the Movement for Change, to retire from politics.

Kyerematen, who left the NPP in 2023 after losing the party’s presidential primaries, cited unfair treatment towards himself and his supporters. After resigning, he launched the Movement for Change and ran as an independent candidate in the December 7, 2024, elections.

Many expected him to challenge the main candidates, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP and John Mahama of the NDC. However, Kyerematen’s performance fell far short of expectations.

Although he has been a well-known political figure for over 20 years, Kyerematen failed to convert his reputation into electoral success. He managed to secure just 0.28% of the votes, finishing fourth, even behind some minor candidates.

Political experts believe his poor showing raises serious questions about his future in politics. Speaking on TV3, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe stated that it might be time for Kyerematen to step away from the political scene, as it no longer seems promising for him.

“As far as I am concerned, I would advise Alan to walk away from politics. I don’t think he has any future in it,” Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe stated.

He further criticised Kyerematen’s decision to serve in President Akufo-Addo’s second-term administration despite harboring presidential ambitions.

“Alan had no business joining President Akufo-Addo’s second term when he knew he had presidential ambitions,” Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe added.

I’ll continue to slay for God, eat even in opposition – Diana Asamoah

After the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost the 2024 elections, people online have been wondering if gospel singer Diana Asamoah will keep living her vibrant lifestyle and “slaying for Christ” on social media.

In a video that quickly went viral, Diana Asamoah explained that only those without Christ lose hope. She emphasised that with Christ on her side, she would never go hungry.

She also mentioned that even though her party lost, she will still find opportunities to work, while those who support the ruling government might struggle and go hungry in the next four years.

“So far as God is on my side, I will not go hungry regardless of my party being in opposition.

I’ll be there, and people will call me and say, Diana, I heard you have a company, so come for this. So far as this is our country and our government, we will continue to eat because we own a company,” she added.

Dr Bawumia struggles to make decisions – Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe

Founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has stated that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has difficulty making decisions. This comes despite the praise he has received for showing statesmanship by accepting defeat in the December 2024 elections.

Speaking to TV3 on Friday, December 14, 2024, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe remarked, “Bawumia is a disciplined and respectful gentleman, but his major weakness is that he cannot make decisions.”

Reflecting on his early association with Dr. Bawumia’s career, he shared details of his role in mentoring the Vice President.

“When Akufo-Addo decided to run with Bawumia…, he handed him over to me and the late former Vice President Aliu Mahama. We worked closely with him, and while he was a nice gentleman, he struggled to make decisions,” Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe alleged.

    Contrasting opinions within the NPP

Despite these criticisms, Dr. Bawumia has received support from other prominent NPP figures, including former President John Agyekum Kufuor, who has praised Bawumia’s leadership qualities and how he has rose through the ranks as a politician.

“Bawumia has been well-prepared, and I think his preparation makes him unique for the position,” President Kufuor stated.

Dr. Bawumia began his political journey in 2008 as the NPP’s vice presidential candidate. Over the years, he has evolved from being seen as a technocrat to becoming a strong and influential political leader. His flexibility and impact within the NPP have gained him respect from party members and political analysts.

    Critique of the 2024 Elections

Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe believes that Dr. Bawumia struggles with making decisions. He pointed out that this was clear during the 2024 elections, where Bawumia seemed limited by party rules and outside pressures.

“Leadership requires decisiveness,” he said. “And unfortunately, he didn’t demonstrate that ability.”

Nonetheless, Dr. Bawumia’s concession after the election has received widespread praise, both locally and internationally, as a mark of political maturity and good leadership.

Bawumia pledges to uphold Ghana’s cultural values with anti-LGBTQ+ and witchcraft Laws

Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reiterated his commitment to preserving the nation’s cultural and moral values.

Speaking to congregants at the Believers Worship Centre in Kenyase, Ashanti Region, on 1 December 2024, he pledged to sign the anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-witchcraft accusation bills into law if elected as president.

“I am committed to ensuring that Ghana remains rooted in its cultural and moral values. If elected, I will sign into law the anti-LGBTQ+ bill and the anti-witchcraft accusation bill because our traditions and beliefs must be protected from undue external influence,” he said during the church service.

Dr. Bawumia also sought divine blessings for his presidential campaign and emphasised the importance of peaceful elections. “I believe in the power of prayer, and I call on all of you to pray for Ghana and for the success of the upcoming elections. Without God, we labour in vain,” he added.

The Vice President’s comments come amid debates over Ghana’s anti-LGBTQ+ bill, which seeks to criminalise LGBTQ+ activities, and the anti-witchcraft accusation bill aimed at addressing abuses linked to witchcraft allegations.

Dr. Bawumia has previously affirmed his firm stance on LGBTQ+ issues, stating that such practices conflict with Ghanaian cultural values and are unacceptable under his leadership. “On this matter of LGBTQ, I want to say again without any equivocation that we will not allow it in Ghana. It is not going to be allowed. Our Bible says no, our Quran says no, and our people say no. So no. That is the answer,” he asserted earlier this year.

The Founder of the Believers Worship Centre, Stephen Adom Kyei-Duah, welcomed the Vice President’s assurances, commending his dedication to safeguarding Ghanaian traditions. The pastor promised to support Dr. Bawumia’s presidential ambitions through prayers, highlighting the significance of his pledges.

These declarations have elicited both support and criticism, reflecting the divisive nature of these legislative efforts. The anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-witchcraft bills have been endorsed by some religious and traditional leaders but have also attracted opposition from human rights groups, citing concerns over discrimination and potential human rights violations.

I avoid English media houses because of my ‘bad’ English – NPP’s Kate Gyamfua

National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kate Gyamfua, has acknowledged her struggle with fluent English. Critics have pointed to this language barrier as a significant drawback, arguing that it hinders her ability to effectively communicate the party’s programs and policies on English-speaking media platforms.

Blaming her poor English skills on her childhood boyfriend, the NPP Organiser noted that her poor English-speaking skills are the reason behind her distance from English media houses.

“You understand English, but you have decided to work in a Twi station. So everyone decides where he or she will be comfortable. I prefer to speak on Twi stations where I can be more articulate and spread my party’s programmes. If I go to a station where they speak English, my comments will be very limited; I won’t have much to say.

I don’t want any problems, which is why I don’t go to English-speaking media houses. I have told you my story: people can choose to say what they want. Whether I am able to speak English or not, I am happy staying in my house.”

“I won’t argue with anyone who says I don’t speak good English. My mother enrolled me in a good school; I attended an experimental school and then to a secondary school, where I got pregnant and came home. When I was young, I had a boyfriend, he attended a local school, and I attended an experimental school, but whenever I spoke English, he made fun of me.

So I was intimidated and decided not to be speaking English anymore to avoid making mistakes. Till now, I hate him for that. I have children; I don’t want to speak English and make mistakes for people to make fun of them.
But the white people I do business with when I speak English, they understand,” she noted in an interview with Adom FM.

She, however, added that, due to her situation, she has ensured that all her children have quality education.

“I have taken all my children to good schools. None of them will do one master’s degree. The little among them will do two master’s degrees. My first child has four master’s degrees.

My children will do things on my own that I was not able to do. I took all my children to schools abroad fully paid by myself and not sponsored by government scholarship,” Kate Gyamfua proudly stated.

Vote Bawumia to access University through Ghana card – Wontumi to Ghanaians

Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged Ghanaian youth to rally behind Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the upcoming presidential election.

Wontumi asserts that electing Bawumia would lead to significant changes, including the ability for young people to enroll in universities using only their Ghana Cards and to secure jobs with monthly salaries of GHS 8,000 immediately upon graduation.

“Dr Bawumia says that if you vote for him to become president, you should take your Ghana Card and attend university. Upon completion, there will be an immediate job available that pays GHS 8,000 a month,” Wontumi declared in a widely circulated video.

During a recent address, Wontumi emphasized that a Bawumia presidency would simplify the process of accessing higher education through the national identification card.

He also claimed that graduates would be guaranteed immediate employment with attractive salaries, with a repayment system allowing them to pay off their education costs in installments deducted from their salaries.

His statements have ignited considerable debate on social media, with many Ghanaians expressing skepticism and mocking the ambitious promises. Critics argue that the prospect of widespread, high-paying job opportunities seems unrealistic, particularly given the current economic difficulties in the country.

Unemployment is a pressing issue in Ghana, with numerous administrations struggling to generate enough job openings for graduates.

A 2021 World Bank report noted that while over 110,000 young people graduate from universities each year, the lack of growth in sectors outside oil and minerals has contributed to rising graduate unemployment.

According to data from the Ghana Statistical Service, as of the third quarter of 2023, approximately 2.06 million out of 12 million employed Ghanaians were jobless, translating to an unemployment rate of 14.7%.

Greater Accra has been particularly affected, showing an unemployment rate of 25.7%, meaning one in four people actively seeking work in the capital is unemployed. The Ashanti and Western regions also reported unemployment rates above 16%, while the Oti region recorded the lowest at 6.4%.

Gender disparities are evident as well, with 17.7% of economically active women unemployed compared to 10.9% of men.

The ambitious claims of immediate job placement and lucrative salaries have left many questioning the practicality of Wontumi’s assertions, especially in light of the ongoing challenges of unemployment in the nation.

Number one spot on ballot paper is God’s doing – Bawumia

Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has attributed securing the top spot on the ballot for the 2024 presidential election to God Almighty.

Dr. Bawumia made this submission during a recent visit to the Church of Pentecost in Breman Asikuma, Central Region, saying “we gathered to determine the order of the ballot, and through our prayers, we trust that God heard us. The result was the number one position, for which we are profoundly thankful.”

Reflecting on the ballot process and beyond, he shared, “There are countless things beyond human control, but we have faith that God can accomplish anything. With faith in God, we can achieve our goals.”

The balloting for the 2024 presidential election which took place on September 20, 2024, was not devoid of controversy as the opposition National Democratic Congress challenged the picking of the number one spot by the NPP’s Elections Director, Evans Nimako.

Despite the NDC’s objections, the NPP representative stood firm, and after some heated discussions, the process resumed, resulting in the NPP once again drawing the number one spot, which has since ignited a wave of social media commentary regarding its seemingly miraculous nature.

A total of 13 candidates have successfully gone through the nomination process and are now eligible to contest in the upcoming election.

The order of candidates on the ballot paper is as follows: Mahamudu Bawumia (NPP), Daniel Augustus Lartey (GCPP), Akua Donkor (GFP), Christian Kwabena Andrews (GUM), Kofi Akpaloo (LPG), Mohammed Frimpong (NDP), Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Kumankuma (CPP), John Dramani Mahama (NDC), Hassan Ayariga (APC), Kofi Koranteng (Independent), George Twum-Barima-Adu (Independent), Nana Kwame Bediako (Independent), and Alan John Kwadwo Kyeremateng (Independent).

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, the “Nothing Lasts Forever” (NFL) hitmaker expressed his disappointment, declaring, “The government has failed us… Big shame.”

Though he didn’t provide specifics on where he felt the government had fallen short, Camidoh intensified his critique in a follow-up post, using harsher language: “Sh*tty people, y’all disgust us.”

In another post, Camidoh shared a message from X user Sika Official, criticizing the recent arrest of 39 Democracy Hub protesters.

These individuals were remanded on Tuesday for what authorities described as unlawful actions during a three-day demonstration.

The repost read “Walahi, this country makes me sick. Why are innocent people being taken to court for protesting against the same thing we are all suffering from? Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B and the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed confidence that his party will emerge victorious in the 2024 general elections, leaving the opposition, particularly the National Democratic Congress (NDC), stunned.

Speaking during an interview on Onua FM, Nana B attributed the NPP’s expected win to their strong performance record, insisting that the outcome will be indisputable.

“We will win this election based on our superior track record. No one can rob us of the win,” he stated.

He also criticized Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the NDC’s Director of Elections and IT, suggesting that his leadership would contribute to the NDC’s downfall in the upcoming election.

Nana B argued that Dr. Boamah spends more time speaking than focusing on his responsibilities, which he believes will ultimately lead to the NDC’s defeat.

“Dr. Edward Omane Boamah should focus on the work he has been given and stop talking too much. His party will lose the elections, and he will be blamed for not doing his work well and being the cause of their misfortune,” he added.

The footage shows NPP supporters jubilantly reacting to the results of the recent balloting process. Among them, the policewoman was also seen joining in the celebration, contributing to the atmosphere.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) secured a favourable position in the Electoral Commission’s (EC) balloting for the upcoming December 7, presidential elections.

Evans Nimako, the NPP’s Director of Elections, picked the party’s number during the EC’s balloting event held in Accra on Friday. The NPP will be featured in a prominent position on the ballot paper.

The main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), drew the 8th position, while the All People’s Congress (APC) candidate, Hassan Abdulai Ayariga, secured the 9th spot.

Kofi Akpaloo of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) picked number 5, and Nana Akosua Frimpomaa of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) drew the 7th position.

NDC embraces 8th position on ballot, calls it “God’s perfect will”

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed enthusiasm over being assigned the 8th position on the ballot for the 2024 presidential election, interpreting it as a signal for transformative change after what they label eight years of poor governance by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a press conference held on September 20, NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey articulated that the number eight holds special significance, marking a necessary shift from the perceived corruption and chaos that have characterized the NPP’s tenure.

“We came here asking for God’s perfect will to be done and we accept the number eight. After eight critical years of decay, after eight years of total lack of order, corruption and darkness that has engulfed this country, I think the eight is quite significant to tell the country that this is the moment to stop the decay after the eight years,” he said.

He conveyed a strong belief that this moment heralds a new beginning for the country, as the NDC seeks to confront the pressing economic and governance issues at hand.

Kwetey also took aim at the NPP, criticizing them for failing to adhere to initial balloting agreements, suggesting that the public is well aware of the ruling party’s approach to politics.

“The country clearly will no those who are doing everything possible to do what is wrong and those who are doing what is right for the sake of Ghana,” Mr Kwetey said.

With the NPP occupying the first ballot position, the NDC aims to capitalize on its eighth spot to galvanize support and promote their vision for a better future for Ghana. The ballot positions were determined during a recent event at the Electoral Commission’s office in Accra.

2024 Election: Number 8 symbolizes change – NDC justifies position on ballot paper

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed optimism about securing the 8th position on the ballot for the 2024 presidential election, viewing it as a symbol of change after what they describe as eight years of misrule under the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking to the press on Friday, September 20, NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey emphasized that the number eight is significant, representing an end to years of economic mismanagement, corruption, and instability under the NPP government.

Kwetey expressed confidence that this moment marks a turning point for the country, as the NDC aims to restore order and address the challenges that have plagued Ghana during the NPP’s administration.

He also criticized the NPP for disregarding prior balloting agreements, suggesting that the public is aware of the ruling party’s actions, which he believes reflect their broader approach to governance.

“The country clearly will no those who are doing everything possible to do what is wrong and those who are doing what is right for the sake of Ghana,” Mr Kwetey said.

While the NPP secured the first spot on the ballot, the NDC hopes to leverage its symbolic eighth position to rally support for change.

The balloting process, which took place at the Electoral Commission’s office in Accra, set the stage for the upcoming election.

E-levy, betting tax: Bawumia had different ideas, ‘he didn’t run the show’ – Dr. Assibey Yeboah

The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) manifesto sub-committee on the economy, Dr. Assibey Yeboah, has absolved Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of blame for the passage of tax policies such as the Electronic Transaction Levy (e-levy) and betting tax, which stirred controversy after their introduction.

Dr. Bawumia, as head of the Economic Management Team, has been held accountable by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for worsening the plight of Ghanaians through the introduction of these taxes, despite the NPP government’s earlier assurance of a shift from taxation to production.

In an interview with the media, Dr. Assibey Yeboah affirmed that although Dr. Bawumia is part of the incumbent government and supports its collective decisions, he had expressed reservations about the implementation of these two tax measures.

According to him, the Vice President’s position could not prevail since his role is to support the President, Nana Akufo-Addo, who has the sole mandate to assent to the bills passed into law. He reiterated that Dr. Bawumia’s intention to abolish these tax policies reflects his independent views on how to manage the country’s tax system.

“Dr. Bawumia has been part of the government. In this manifesto, he said he would abolish the e-levy, he said he would abolish the betting tax, he didn’t run the show so there are things in the manifesto that run contrary to what this government is doing. So if I have divergent views and I air them is it criticising the government? No,” he stated.

He further explained that members of the ruling party are not barred from sharing opposing views on matters that have majority approval.

“I advised the government to approach the IMF early on, and it eventually did. I also predicted that the e-levy wouldn’t achieve its revenue targets, and we’ve seen it fail. I am an economist, and a good one at that, so if I have strong views on a matter, I will speak up even if I’m part of the NPP. That’s how we build a nation.”

    E-levy

The Electronic Transfer Levy Act, 2022 (Act 1075), imposing an electronic transfer levy of 1.5% on electronic transfers such as mobile money, bank application, FinTech platform was assented to by the president on 31 March 2022 and implemented on 1 May 2022.

Its implementation faced public backlash and government was compelled to reduce the rate to 1 percent effective November of the same year.  Government raked in GHC1.19 billion from e-levy for the year 2023.

    Betting tax

The Ghana Revenue Authority GRA announced the implementation a 10% withholding tax on all gross gaming winnings effective August 15, 2023.

In a recent statement, the National Lottery Authority Director (NLA), Sammy Awuku, revealed that the 10% tax on betting winnings, announced by the government, has not yet been enforced. Despite the mandate given to the NLA to collect this tax, operational challenges have delayed its implementation.

Meanwhile, flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is keen on abolishing the e-levy and betting tax to facilitate his vision for a digital and cashless Ghana.

Construction of amphitheaters promised by NPP stalled due to lack of funds – Okraku-Mantey

Deputy Tourism Minister Mark Okraku-Mantey has acknowledged that the construction of five amphitheaters promised by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has encountered delays due to funding shortages.

During a Manifesto Debate on Creative Arts aired on Joy FM, Mr. Okraku-Mantey revealed that the World Bank was primarily funding the project. However, the initial budget has been exhausted, causing the work to stall.

He explained that the project’s progress has been hampered by the need for additional funds.

“The construction center predominantly has a lot to do with budget, because this is funded by the World Bank, and so we’re supposed to get additional funding to finish it has delayed,” Mr Okraku-Mantey said.

The initial allocation of $500,000 per amphitheatre proved insufficient because of rising market costs. Consequently, the government has requested further financial support from Parliament to move forward with the construction.

“The budget increased because of market prices and so it affected how the plan that we had to finish the amphitheater. We’ve made a request for additional funding, it’s in the process, the moment we get it, in the next two weeks I am sure some money should come in, we will go back to site.”

The Deputy Minister mentioned that although the government aimed to complete the amphitheatres by December, a more realistic deadline is now set for the end of the first quarter of 2025. The Minister of Tourism and Culture has defended the funding request in Parliament, with expectations of receiving the necessary funds within the next two weeks to resume work.

“We know we want to finish before December, but for the sake of Parliament, he mentioned quarter one next year,” he added.

NDC’s #EnoughIsEnough demo was a health walk – Ellen Ama Daaku

Ellen Ama Daaku, former women’s organizer aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for their recent demonstration organized to protest against the Electoral Commission (EC).

Daaku described the nationwide protest as more of a “health walk” rather than a substantive effort to address grievances with the EC.

She argued that any discrepancies in the voter register should be corrected through proper channels rather than through public demonstrations.

She further suggested that the protest was merely a strategy for the NDC to gauge their support base across the country.

“I don’t think the NDC protest deserves significant attention. It is essentially just a health walk,” Daaku stated.

The NDC #EnoughIsEnough Demo was organised to demand a forensic audit of the voter register ahead of the 2024 elections, a request which the EC has deemed unnecessary.

Focus on ideas rather than insults – Bawumia to Mahama

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has urged John Mahama, his opponent from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to adopt a more respectful tone in his public statements.

At a campaign event in Accra on September 16, Dr. Bawumia criticized Mahama for using derogatory language against religious leaders, civil society groups, and traditional authorities, calling them “hypocrites” for their silence on national matters.

Dr. Bawumia expressed concern that such remarks diminish the respect associated with Mahama’s previous office.

He emphasized that these groups play a vital role in promoting unity and progress and should be treated with dignity rather than scorn.

“You all know I am competing with the former president to win this election. I think he has realised that he will lose the elections so he is always angry. I heard he insulted some pastors, chiefs, imam and CSOs saying they are hypocrites. He even insulted the ECG.”

“Today he said the NPP is a foolish government. Why would a former president say something like this? We must have some level of decency in the language we speak as politicians.”

Addressing Mahama’s recent comments, Dr. Bawumia questioned why a former president would resort to name-calling, such as labeling the NPP government as “foolish.”

He argued that elections should center on substantive policies rather than personal attacks.

“When you lack ideas, you begin to insult people but when you have ideas you present them. As for us, we have bold solutions to problems,” he said.

He defended the NPP’s record, asserting that their government has surpassed the achievements of the previous administration in various sectors, including job creation, infrastructure, and public services.

“You said we are a foolish government but we have created more jobs than your government, we have built more roads, interchanges, schools, factories, and hospitals than your government. Every sector of the economy that you can mention, we have done better but you are saying we are foolish.

“If you believe in yourself, come for a debate. He is scared because he knows I back my statements with data,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia challenged Mahama to a debate, confident in the NPP’s accomplishments and prepared to back up their claims with data.

Persons arrested for Walewale primary chaos must face the law – NPP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has declared that it will not intervene on behalf of those arrested by the police in connection with the disturbances that disrupted a parliamentary primary in Walewale.

The Electoral Commission nullified the primary election between incumbent MP Hajia Lariba Zuweira Abudu and Dr. Kabiru Mahama due to incidents of ballot paper snatching, which compromised the sorting and counting process.

The police have detained one individual linked to the incident.

During a recent press conference, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong affirmed the party’s support for the police investigation.

He stressed that those responsible for the chaos will face legal consequences, underscoring the party’s commitment to upholding the law and internal democracy.

Frimpong highlighted that the National Executive Committee is set to convene on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, to deliberate on the situation.

This meeting aims to address the issues in Walewale, unify the party, and ensure that the NPP retains its seat in the constituency. A decision will be reached before the closed-door nomination deadline on Friday.

He emphasized that the party would not exert any influence to plead for those implicated and reaffirmed that the NPP is dedicated to peace, stability, and lawful conduct.

Frimpong assured that the upcoming decision would focus on resolving the Walewale issue, fostering reconciliation, and strengthening party unity to secure their position in the area.

“The Ghana Police Service and for the information that we have, we know they arrested some people yesterday so I want us to leave it to the professionals to do their job. But what I can say is that the party will give helpful support to the Ghana Police Service and anyone that will be established as the one being the cause of the chaos in the electoral process will be dealt with according to the laws of the country.”

“The party will not come in to make any plead for such a person. The New Patriotic Party is not known for violence. The New Patriotic Party per our record shows clearly that we are a party that believes in the rule of law.

“We are a party that believes in internal democracy and therefore will not do anything that will undermine the peace and stability in our party.

“We have the power to deal with issues concerning parliamentary matters and we’ve done it before. So certainly I can assure you that tomorrow a decision will be made by the national executive committee of our party which has to be made because Friday is the deadline for the closed-door nomination.

“So certainly a decision will be made, and the decision will be based on one that addresses the issues that happen at Walewale, one that will seek to reconcile the party at Walewale and that will also seek to bring unity at Walewale and make sure that the party retain its seat at Walewale.”

  • I declined a huge offer from NPP to join their campaign team – Jak Alolome

I declined a huge offer from NPP to join their campaign team – Jak Alolome

Gospel artist Jak Alolome recently disclosed that he turned down a significant offer from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to join their campaign team.

Despite the substantial financial incentive, he chose to align himself with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and produce a campaign song for them ahead of the December 7 elections.

In an interview on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning show, Alolome explained that his choice was driven by his concern for the well-being of the average Ghanaian.

He emphasized that, as a businessman, he is acutely aware of the economic hardships faced by many people. His refusal to accept the NPP’s offer reflects his dissatisfaction with their handling of the economy and his support for the NDC’s campaign.

“Last year, they held my hand and took me to the NPP camp and offered a huge amount of money to join their campaign team, but I declined because the economy is hard now. I’m a businessman, and that’s because the welfare of many people is my concern. I get to eat when they eat, and now those people are complaining,” he told Roselyn Felli.

Alolome, who has not disclosed the exact amount offered by the NPP, criticized the current government for allegedly exploiting Ghanaians for personal gain. He joined the NDC in an effort to contribute to their cause and challenge the incumbent administration.

In a previous conversation on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z with Kwame Dadzie, Alolome stated that his decision to create the song “JM Begye Yen” for the NDC’s presidential candidate, John Mahama, was based on his personal convictions rather than financial motives. However, he remains open to any form of appreciation that might follow the song’s release.

Comparing the current administration to the previous NDC regime under Mahama, Alolome expressed disappointment with the worsening economic conditions since the NPP came into power.

“Nana Addo told us that Mahama’s administration was bad and he (Nana Addo) was going to bring us a better economy to make us comfortable. So, we voted Mahama out. But since he came into power, the petrol I buy compared to Mahama’s time is very bad. If I’m to weigh the works of Mahama and Nana Addo’s government as Dr. Bawumia is to take over, then Mahama has to come.”

He argued that the promises of improved economic conditions have not materialized, and he believes Mahama’s return could be beneficial.

Alolome’s involvement with the NDC follows a tradition of musicians supporting political parties in Ghana.

Notable artists who have backed the NDC include Nacee, Wayoosi, Mr. Beautiful, and Jewel Ackah, while the NPP has seen support from musicians such as Daddy Lumba, Omane Acheampong, Ofori Amponsah, and Diana Asamoah.

  • NPP’s manifesto for the creative industry is vague – MC Yaa Yeboah

NPP’s manifesto for the creative industry is vague – MC Yaa Yeboah

Media personality and entertainment commentator MC Yaa Yeboah has voiced her frustration with Ghanaian political parties over their lack of support for the creative arts sector.

She specifically criticized the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for presenting what she deems a weak manifesto, despite their access to industry data and financial benefits.

“What disappoints me most is the NPP, they are in power, they are privy to all the numbers and facts yet their manifesto is one of the weakest, They know how much they’ve gained from the various taxes and levies applied to the industry.

“The other political parties are on the outside, they don’t know what goes on inside. Yet, the NPP has the weakest manifesto,” she opined.

On September 9, 2024, during her appearance on United Showbiz, Yeboah expressed disappointment in the NPP for their failure to produce a strong manifesto, especially when they have the inside knowledge of the industry’s financial contributions through taxes and levies.

Yeboah also highlighted that both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have similar, vague promises concerning the creative arts.

“We see a lot of entertainment shows discussing the manifestos but you can see that they have lost hope. Because the creative arts industry is one of the sectors that has been neglected for far too long.

“When you check back on some of the manifestos of these political parties that were read years ago, most of the promises that were made in those manifestos are still coming back. Meaning they were not fulfilled,” she said.

She argued that their commitments, whether related to building facilities or addressing royalties, lack specific details and timelines, making it hard to hold the parties accountable.

“All the manifestos that have been read. I see similarities among them, especially when it comes to the creative arts industry.

“The promises made towards the sector by both the NDC and the NPP, if you compare them, they are basically the same. Whether they’re about auditoriums, royalties, building studios etc. They are generic.

“They always give us vague promises, and none of these politicians are bold enough to give us timelines so we can hold them accountable,” she explained.

She noted that stakeholders in the creative industry have become disillusioned due to repeated unfulfilled promises from past manifestos.

Yeboah urged political parties to present concrete plans with clear timelines to make their promises more credible and actionable.

“We in the creative industry want these political parties to actually come up with programs and line-ups as to how they are going to fulfil these promises. Let us know if they are viable, else it’s just going to be a wishlist on paper,” she urged.

NPP didn’t abandon me when I was ill, ignore rumors of my death – Yaw Adomako Baafi

Yaw Adomako Baafi, the former Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has addressed circulating rumors about his death.

Despite being ill recently, he reports that his health has significantly improved.

Dr. Okyere Ankrah, a lecturer, had called on the NPP to assist Baafi, stating that he was critically ill and in urgent need of medical care.

“Let someone inform the national chairman or the entire national council that they should visit and help Yaw Adomako Baafi because he is critically ill. He has to be sent to a medical facility to receive treatment. I’m saying this with passion because I used to be his roommate in the same room back in the day, and the only party he has served and known is NPP and nothing else. He is in bad shape.”

Dr. Ankrah, who once lived with Baafi, emphasized the former party official’s long-standing dedication and sacrifices for the NPP, including working despite a leg injury.

“I’m stressed on this because of his dedication. Sometime back he had an injury on his leg, but that didn’t deter him from moving to radio stations with that same leg to speak for NPP. He really needs help befall anybody. Let’s help people while they are, he added.

However, Baafi has publicly refuted these claims, stating that he received substantial support from various party members, including Dr. Bawumia and Joseph Asibu.

“Yes, it is true. Recently I was sick and admitted to Korle Bu; subsequently, I was admitted at the University of Ghana Medical Centre. I was not abandoned; I was helped. With God’s intervention, financially and in everything, I was never in lack. With the help of Dr. Bawumia, the President, and especially my brother Joseph Asibu, they all helped. And I am also not financially poor; I am not rich, but the little I do have.

“I am strong now; I’m doing my second masters, and I have been going for lecturers. Recently, I wrote my exams, and then I wake up and I am told that I am dead, the astute communicator said.

He clarified that he was treated at Korle Bu and the University of Ghana Medical Centre and that he is now in good health, pursuing his second master’s degree and continuing his work.

In a video, Baafi debunked the death rumors, expressing gratitude for the support he received and clarifying that he remains alive and well.

“Yesterday I was with my in-coming president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, at Ayawaso. Throughout the campaign I was with my brother Anthony Karbo, so no wonder around 4 to 5 am, Karbo got up, Kofi Tonto got up, Asante Krobea and Dr. Bawumia himself chattered me. How come somebody who was with them yesterday, this morning I should be pronounced dead? I am not dead. So I am grateful to all Ghanaians.”

He emphasized that his recent interactions with prominent figures, including Dr. Bawumia and Anthony Karbo, highlight his continued presence and active involvement.

Nkawkaw MP to exit Parliament; NPP picks new candidate for Dec. polls

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership, after consulting the National Council, has decided to replace the current Nkwakaw MP, Joseph Frempong, for the upcoming 2024 parliamentary elections.

Due to health issues, Frempong is unable to take on the demanding campaign efforts required for the election.

In his place, David Asante, CEO of Ghana Publishing Company Limited, has been selected to run as the party’s candidate for the Nkwakaw constituency.

Asante, a native of Nkwakaw, had previously contested Frempong in the party primaries earlier this year but was unsuccessful.

However, he will now represent the NPP in the forthcoming elections.

Medical drone delivery initiative was inspired by my father’s death – Bawumia

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer, has shared that his father’s death in 2002 profoundly influenced the creation of Ghana’s medical drone delivery service.

His father, who passed away following surgery in Tamale, faced critical delays in obtaining blood, which spurred Bawumia to address the issue.
In his recent campaign stop in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, Bawumia highlighted how his father’s experience underscored the need for timely medical deliveries.

He revealed that the drone initiative was developed to prevent such delays and ensure quick access to essential medical supplies.
Bawumia described the tragic event that led him to seek out innovative solutions.

His efforts led to the establishment of six drone hubs across Ghana, in partnership with the Zipline company.

These drones now deliver blood, medications, and vaccines to over 2,700 healthcare facilities nationwide, having completed 540,000 flights to date.

“We brought drones into Ghana to deliver medicines, vaccines, and blood. Many people were dying needlessly because they could not get medicine on time. A snake can bite you on the farm and you need medicine, and anti-snake serum immediately. A mother can be giving birth in the village and needs blood immediately.

“In 2002, my father had an operation in Tamale and was losing blood. We were looking for blood, but the blood bank was locked.
“We tried to find the operator but couldn’t find him. So when I heard about drones and Zipline and what they could do in delivering blood, I took my team and went to San Francisco.

“We met the Zipline company and convinced them to come to Ghana and set up six drone centres in Ghana. We have six drone centres which are delivering blood, medicines, and vaccines to 2,700 hospitals and health centres in Ghana. Every day we are saving lives. So far, the drones have flown 540,000 flights,” he stated.

The NPP of today lacks men of integrity – Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe

Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a senior statesman and founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized some members of the party for lacking integrity.

He argued that the current members are primarily focused on wealth accumulation and property acquisition rather than serving the interests of the people.

Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe believes that the NPP should prioritize improving the lives of Ghanaians over pursuing material gains.

“The NPP today lacks individuals of integrity; we now have people who are solely interested in making money and acquiring property,” he stated.

The greatest threat to Ghana’s democracy is EC – Nyaho-Tamakloe

Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a founding member of Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the Electoral Commission (EC), warning that its current actions could jeopardize Ghana’s democratic stability.

Speaking at an anti-corruption event at the GNAT Hall in Accra on Monday, September 2, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe labeled the EC as a major threat to democracy, suggesting their conduct could lead to national turmoil.

“I am saying at the moment, the greatest threat to have democracy is the Electoral Commission, that is the greatest threat to our democracy, and if we are not careful, they will lead this country into destruction, mark my words,” he said.

Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe, who has firsthand experience with political upheaval, underscored his concerns by recounting his own imprisonment during past coups.

He criticized the EC for mishandling recent issues, particularly citing unauthorized transfers of voters between constituencies.

“I’ve seen coup d’etat in this country, I have been part of coup d’etat in this country, and I know what I’m talking about. I spent almost five years of my life in prison,” he stated, emphasising the gravity of the situation.

He argued that these actions, carried out without proper consent, could significantly disrupt the electoral process.

“How on earth can transfers be made from one particular constituency to another without the consent of others? These are facts,” he quizzed.

This criticism comes as the EC faces heightened scrutiny from various stakeholders, including the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections.

You’ve performed excellently in office – Chief of Nyinahin lauds NPP gov’t

Nana Amampene Boateng Twum II, the Chief of Nyinahin, has praised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for its exceptional performance in office.

He commended the administration led by President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, emphasizing that they have established a strong foundation for future progress.

Using Nyinahin as an example, Nana Boateng Twum II highlighted the significant improvements his community has experienced under the NPP’s leadership.

He noted that prior to the NPP’s governance, many areas in Nyinahin lacked electricity.

Thanks to the government’s efforts, these issues have been addressed, along with the development of crucial infrastructure such as a hospital, stadium, schools, and roads.

The Chief also praised the administration for its policies aimed at mining bauxite in Nyinahin, which he believes will further benefit the community.

He expressed gratitude for the advancements made and urged continued support for the NPP in the upcoming elections.

Nana Boateng Twum II’s remarks came during a grand durbar held to welcome Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Dr. Bawumia’s running mate, to Nyinahin.

He firmly stated that the NPP is on the right track and deserves to remain in power to continue their positive work.

Netizens react to Joyce Blessing’s presence at NPP campaign launch

Ghanaian gospel artist Joyce Blessing has sparked discussions after being seen performing at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) campaign launch in Dansoman, Accra, on Monday, August 26, 2024.

Videos circulating on social media show her energizing the crowd of NPP supporters with her hit song “Victory.”

This comes just a month after she was on stage at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) campaign launch in Tamale on July 27, 2024, where many assumed her appearance signaled support for the NDC.

However, her latest performance has led to a different interpretation, with many suggesting that she’s simply doing her job.

Social media comments reflect this sentiment, with users defending her actions, saying, “She’s just working,” “People should stop criticizing them… They’re just doing their job,” “This season comes every four years. Ghanaians should let these artists do their business in peace,” and “They’re just doing their job.”

“I’m looking forward to that” – King Paluta addresses rumors of receiving mansion, vehicle from NPP

Recent reports suggest that King Paluta, known for his hit song ‘Makoma,’ has allegedly been generously rewarded by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), including claims of receiving a mansion in East Legon and a luxury vehicle.

In a recent interview on Okay FM’s ‘Ekwansodwodwo’ with Abeiku Santana, King Paluta addressed these rumors with a laugh, saying, “We are looking forward to that.”

He clarified that the NPP does not specifically use his song for their campaign but plays it during their events. “Every political party uses this song,” he noted. “It’s widely accessible and played in various settings, including by mechanics at their workshops.”

King Paluta also pointed out that his song has been featured by other political parties as well. “I’ve seen videos of different parties enjoying the song,” he added.

His recent involvement with the NPP, including appearances and the prominent use of his music at their campaign events, has led to criticism from some who feel he is aligning himself with politics at a crucial point in his career.

NDC has no legacy in governance, unlike the NPP, which does – Kaakyire Kwame Appiah

Highlife musician Kaakyire Kwame Appiah has asserted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) consistently leaves a significant legacy when in power, unlike the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a recent interview on Property FM in Cape Coast, Appiah stated, “Whenever NPP comes into government they try to leave behind a trademark or legacy which most of us can mention, unlike the NDC.

“When President Kufour came, he left behind the National Health Insurance, among others but under President Mills, there’s no trademark to show for his tenure although he did his best.”

He highlighted the achievements of past NPP administrations, such as the introduction of the National Health Insurance scheme under President Kufuor. In contrast, he felt President Mills’ tenure lacked a defining legacy, despite his efforts.

Appiah was particularly critical of the Mahama administration, describing it as lacking notable accomplishments or lasting impacts.

“There is nothing to show under the presidency of Mahama which has become a legacy or trademark but even despite the criticisms at Akufo-Addo he’s been able to do Free SHS which is a trademark.

“And so if we consider these two political parties the one who always leaves behind a trademark or legacy is the one that we ought to allow to continue governing this country to do more for us,” he justified.

He praised President Akufo-Addo for implementing Free SHS, which he views as a significant and lasting achievement.

Appiah concluded that based on these observations, the party that consistently delivers a tangible legacy should be given the opportunity to continue leading the country for the benefit of its people.

Bedbugs await freshers – Prof Smart mocks Mahama’s free tertiary policy

Professor Smart Sarpong discussed the effectiveness of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)‘s Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.

In an interview on Peace FM, Professor Smart highlighted the policy’s positive impact on underprivileged youth, noting that it has significantly benefited those who are financially disadvantaged.

He praised the Free SHS policy for providing opportunities to students who might otherwise be unable to afford secondary education.

However, when comparing it to former President Mahama’s free tertiary education policy, Professor Smart expressed skepticism.

He suggested that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) might be advocating for this policy out of political desperation.
Although he acknowledged that the idea of free tertiary education is commendable, he questioned the feasibility of implementing such a policy given the current economic challenges and concerns about funding.

Professor Smart called for broader consultation and thorough planning.

He humorously remarked that while the concept of free tertiary education is good, the practicalities of accommodating a large influx of students could lead to significant issues, such as overcrowded conditions in institutions.

“The Free tertiary is a good one. I am imagining the number of students who will storm the Tertiary, bedbugs awaits them,” he mocked.

Fahd Osman, a member of the National Communication Team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has highlighted several policies outlined by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 manifesto.

These include the e-visa policy for all international visitors to Ghana, designed to make visa acquisition faster and more convenient, and the Travel Protocol Service (TPS), which aims to facilitate international performances and shows for artists, among other initiatives.

Osman Fahd believes that Bawumia’s proposed policies are more feasible than former President John Mahama’s Free Tertiary education plan.

He suggests that Mahama’s Free Tertiary policy is a response to the success of the NPP’s Free Senior High School (SHS) program.

According to Osman Fahd, Mahama’s previous opposition to the Free SHS policy makes it noteworthy to see whether he will successfully implement the Free Tertiary policy.

“We look forward to seeing former President John Mahama fulfill his Free Tertiary policy, especially given his strong opposition to the Free SHS policy,” Osman Fahd stated.

Evaluate promises made by politicians, don’t vote blindly – Afua Pokua

Ghanaian media figure and journalist Afia Pokua, known as Vim Lady, has called on Ghanaians to be more discerning about the promises made by politicians.

Speaking on Peace FM, she stressed the need for voters to assess whether political proposals are realistic and financially feasible.

Vim Lady criticized the tendency of politicians to recycle outdated ideas without offering genuine innovation.

She noted the ongoing debate between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) regarding the Free Senior High School initiative.

The NDC has argued that this policy imposes a heavy financial burden and has called for its reassessment.

“The NDC is saying they would provide free tuition to all first-year L100 students of the public universities across the country. For me, this is a build-up of the free SHS policy. If the NPP had not introduced free SHS, the NDC would not have initiated this policy.

“We shouldn’t just be following slogans; we must question their policies. The NDC has been complaining bitterly about how free SHS has impacted negatively on Ghana’s economy, to the extent that the party has been calling for a review of the policy.”
Despite this, the NDC has proposed a new plan to offer free education to first-year university students if they come to power.

Vim Lady questioned the practicality of this plan given Ghana’s current economic situation, asking how the NDC intends to fund such an initiative.

She highlighted the importance of questioning the feasibility of political promises rather than accepting them without scrutiny.
“Yet today, the NDC wants to implement free tuition for all level 100 students; where are they going to get the money for? That is a valid question, and we must ask.”

Kwadwo Sheldon and Kalyjay battle it out over NPP, NDC alliance

Kwadwo Sheldon has confirmed his affiliation with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following recent online discussions and his decision to decline an invitation from the New Democratic Congress (NDC) for a Town Hall event.

This admission came after a blog labeled him as neutral in its coverage.

In a statement clarifying his position, Sheldon explained that his criticism of certain NPP policies does not negate his support for the party.

He emphasized, “Disagreeing with some of this government’s policies doesn’t mean I don’t back them.”

Conversely, Kalyjay, Sheldon’s rival on social media, faced increased scrutiny for his apparent NDC ties after participating in the Town Hall event and posing questions.

Kalyjay, who has been associated with the NDC since his involvement in the FixTheCountry movement, was criticized by some for allegedly agreeing to a pre-set line of questioning.

In response, Sheldon subtly criticized Kalyjay, who then retorted.

Sheldon revealed on social media, “They invited me to the Bukom event with the condition of providing me with questions for JDM. It seemed they weren’t interested in my own questions, so I opted to play FIFA instead.”

Kalyjay countered by highlighting that his invitation did not involve pre-set questions, sharing a screenshot of his invitation and correspondence with the NDC team to dispel the accusations.

The two have since engaged in a heated exchange online, each defending their position and questioning the other’s credibility.

Prove corruption accusation against Akufo-Addo and his family – Gabby dares NDC

Leading member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has challenged the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to present proof of corruption involving President Akufo-Addo or his relatives.

He asserted that no corruption allegations under the current administration are as serious as the Airbus bribery scandal linked to former President John Dramani Mahama, the NDC’s flagbearer.

Taking to social media following the Special Prosecutor’s conclusion of his investigation into the case, Mr. Otchere-Darko said “the hypocrisy of partisan politics is indeed most interesting.”

“Let us dare the opposition and their “squeaky clean” leader to name one clear case (not mere allegation) against Akufo-Addo, his family members or appointees that come anywhere remotely close to this Airbus case and its volumes of findings by investigators and admissions of guilt by the bribe giver.

“Let them put the Airbus case side by side to any of the charges they continue to lay on NPP’s doorsteps.

Yet, so desperate are they that they (led by JM himself) are eager to rely confidently & unashamedly on a book of fiction as their main dossier of evidence & to use same to draw links and conclusions from other instances to show that what Ghanaians are enduring today is worse than what they did see under Mahama’s NDC; never mind the tons of evidence of real developments and spendings that have gone directly into the welfare and wellbeing of families and communities across the country,” he wrote on X (former Twitter).

The comments from the President’s cousin come days after the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng exonerated former President John Dramani Mahama of any wrong doing in the Airbus deal.

According to Mr. Agyebeng, there is no evidence of corruption or bribery against the former President; an assertion that has been widely applauded by the opposition NDC and rejected by the governing NPP.

Reacting to the findings, Mr. Otchere Darko congratulated the former President for his victory.

“I am truly happy for John Mahama and his family and his party, it must have been 4yrs of utter agony having such a case of huge international proportions hanging around his neck.

It couldn’t have been easy! Still, Africa shall continue to rise and rise we shall! Let the torch of transparency and the scrutiny of civil society & the media continue to shine on us all for the Africa we want and deserve!

Read below the full post by Gabby Otchere-Darko

“The hypocrisy of partisan politics is indeed most interesting. Just a few days ago a senior opposition party official in Ghana held a press conference to condemn a relative of the vice president, who is a businessman, for his company allegedly benefiting from a public contract properly awarded. A week earlier it was about a former boyfriend (and “baby father”) of a daughter of the president and a contract for spare parts where no bribery allegation is said to be involved. Today that same propaganda chief is leading his party triumphantly (with support from the media), hailing his boss, the opposition leader and former president, as being “squeaky clean!” Why?

The former president and the NDC presidential candidate for 2024 has been CLEARED of that major bribery charge that had hanged around his neck for 4yrs! Details are that reputable investigative institutions in UK, US and France have done thorough investigations which all implicated that Ghanaian leader and his brother in an indictment where the bribe giver (Airbus) admitted guilt and paid millions in fines (but not to Ghana).

Airbus admits to paying bribes which allegedly went to Ghanaian Govt officials. Emails and other facts in the public domain point to the unusual involvement of the “Government Official 1” as the main champion of the deal in the entire transaction from the onset (even promising more) and how his brother was later brought on board as agent for the company that admits to paying bribes. Today his party and its leadership are understandably mightily relieved and happy because investigators in Ghana say they found no evidence against the leader and his brother the agent. One can only be happy for them! They now point to how an “innocent” interest in a transaction can be so mischievously misconstrued even by reputable investigators as dodgy.

Thank God for Akufo-Addo’s meticulous OSP. Anaa? And, yet, that same party, the NDC, and that same leader, John Mahama, have made allegations of corruption against the current president, his family, friends and appointees their main campaign message; even to the point of using a patently fake document (not reports of reputable investigators) against the current president and his royal family to drive home the point.

But, this is what is interesting though! Let us dare the opposition and their “squeaky clean” leader to name one clear case (not mere allegation) against Akufo-Addo, his family members or appointees that come anywhere remotely close to this Airbus case and its volumes of findings by investigators and admissions of guilt by the bribe giver. Let them put the Airbus case side by side to any of the charges they continue to lay on NPP’s doorsteps.

Yet, so desperate are they that they (led by JM himself) are eager to rely confidently & unashamedly on a book of fiction as their main dossier of evidence & to use same to draw links and conclusions from other instances to show that what Ghanaians are enduring today is worse than what they did see under Mahama’s NDC; never mind the tons of evidence of real developments and spendings that have gone directly into the welfare and wellbeing of families and communities across the country.

As we speak, there is another case in the US involving a senior staff of an international bank who was allegedly compelled to pay bribes in order to secure a take-or-pay power contract for a Turkish company under John Mahama. Remember the billions of dollars Ghanaian taxpayers have paid for those take-or-pay deals over the last 7 or so years? Ghana is, indeed, an interesting country.

But, I am truly happy for John Mahama and his family and his party, it must have been 4yrs of utter agony having such a case of huge international proportions hanging around his neck. It couldn’t have been easy! Still, Africa shall continue to rise and rise we shall! Let the torch of transparency and the scrutiny of civil society & the media continue to shine on us all for the Africa we want and deserve!

After first term, you can’t hold Mahama accountable, reject him – Bawumia

Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on Ghanaians to reject John Mahama in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

According to Dr. Bawumia, a Mahama presidency would only last four years, rendering him unaccountable to the people since he would not be seeking re-election.

Dr. Bawumia made this statement during his ongoing tour of the Eastern Region, where he has been engaging with constituents, traditional authorities, and religious leaders.

He emphasised the importance of electing a leader who would be accountable to the people for a full term.

“If we vote for former president Mahama, he can only become president for four years. Four years and that is it.

He doesn’t have to come back for another election. You wouldn’t see him again in Lower Manya Krobo, he won’t come back, he’ll just take the presidency and it’s bye-bye, honeymoon and it’s retirement.”

The NPP flagbearer recently toured multiple constituencies in the Eastern Region, such as Akropong, Asuogyaman, Lower Manya Krobo, and Yilo Krobo.

His campaign strategy has centered around door-to-door visits, connecting with communities, and holding discussions with traditional and religious leaders.

During one of his interactions, Dr. Bawumia promised to donate a bus to Krobo Girls Senior High School, a gesture that was warmly received by the students.

“I just told Nene Sackitey that I’m going to personally buy a bus for Krobo Girls School so I will work on that for you.”
