Pray your party wins or you’ll suffer in silence – Maame Dokono tells creatives

Grace Omaboe, widely known as ‘Maame Dokono‘, has shared a cautionary tale about the challenges faced by artists who enter politics.

The renowned Ghanaian actress warned that if the political party an artist supports fails to win an election, they could face significant setbacks, including being sidelined in their professional field.

Maame Dokono recounted her own difficulties during an interview on GTV, explaining that after aligning herself with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), she struggled to find work for about two years.

Reflecting on her experience, she expressed regret about her deep involvement in politics, suggesting it had a detrimental impact on her career.

She also revealed that her political involvement led to the abrupt halt of her popular series ‘By the Fireside’.

According to Maame Dokono, her participation in a political event and subsequent endorsement of Nana Addo’s campaign caused friction with the former First Lady, who had been a key supporter of her show.

This led to the withdrawal of support and resources, ultimately ending the production of ‘By the Fireside’.

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as ‘Chairman Wontumi,’ has addressed allegations made by Samuel Yaw Adusei, the former Deputy Minister of Works and Housing, about the state of the Ghanaian economy.

Adusei, during his media engagements in the Ashanti Region, criticized the NPP government’s economic management, pointing out a debt-to-GDP ratio of 92% and an inflation rate of 54%.

In response, Wontumi has taken to various media platforms to refute Adusei’s claims, defending the NPP’s economic performance and questioning Adusei’s credibility.

Wontumi accused Adusei of dishonesty and attempting to mislead Ghanaians to garner sympathy for the NDC’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, and win favor with voters in the region.

This exchange has ignited a heated debate about Ghana’s economic situation and the NPP government’s performance.

With the 2024 elections approaching, this discussion is expected to become even more intense as both parties strive to present their arguments to the electorate.

    Akufo-Addo is Bawumia’s problem – A Plus

Ghanaian politician and musician A Plus has asserted that the greatest obstacle facing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is President Nana Akufo-Addo.

According to A Plus, President Akufo-Addo has become unresponsive to grievances and exhibits an attitude of superiority.

A Plus also alleges that Akufo-Addo does not support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s bid to lead the NPP in the 2024 elections.

He suggests that Bawumia should not take Akufo-Addo’s stance seriously and should consider distancing himself from the President to improve his chances.

“Akufo-Addo is a major problem for both Ghana and the NPP,” A Plus asserted.

“He listens to no one and always thinks he is above everyone else. He is not supportive of Bawumia’s candidacy. Bawumia should take this into account and act accordingly.”

Critics lack understanding of proposed credit scoring system – Bawumia

Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has responded to critiques regarding his plan to introduce a credit scoring system in Ghana.

He explained that the proposed system is intended to allow individuals to purchase goods on credit, thereby improving financial accessibility for many Ghanaians.

In a Facebook post, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the country’s recent advancements, including the issuance of the Ghana Card, the integration of various databases, and the expansion of financial inclusion through mobile money interoperability.

He argued that these developments have created a conducive environment for the successful implementation of a credit scoring system.

“Among many benefits, the operation of a credit scoring system will make it easier for the ordinary Ghanaian to purchase essentials such as cars, and mobile phones, and obtain loans at lower interest rates,” Dr. Bawumia stated.

He further noted that in most advanced nations, mobile phones are often available for free from telecom companies with a two or three-year contract, contingent on one’s credit score.

Dr. Bawumia criticized his critics, stating, “Unfortunately, my opponents always think in terms of impossibilities and criticize without knowledge.”

Earlier this year, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia introduced the proposal for a personalized credit scoring system in Ghana during his initial policy address.

Since then, he has elaborated on its potential benefits during his campaign tours, suggesting methods like purchasing mobile phones on credit from telecom companies and paying in installments through the credit scoring system.

However, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed skepticism about the proposal’s feasibility and impact. They have questioned its practicality and downplayed its potential benefits.

Voting out NPP is the best way to address rising public debt – Amaliba

Private legal practitioner, Abraham Amaliba ,a leading commentator criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, argued that a change in government is essential to address Ghana’s escalating public debt crisis.

He accused the current administration of prioritizing personal interests over the needs of Ghanaians and suggested that removing them from office is a crucial first step in stopping the economic decline.

“When you vote people into government you expect them to think for the people but these people think for their stomachs. The first step to stop the bleeding is to let this government go.

“Then what the next government should focus on are the areas we import so much and use hard currencies to import, let us begin to deal with those sectors,” he said on the Big Issue on TV3 Friday, July 27 while commenting on Ghana’s public stock which stood at GH¢742 billion, representing US$50.9 billion as of June 2024, according to the Finance Minister Dr Mohammed Amin Adam.

The Finance Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, reported that as of June 2024, Ghana’s public debt has reached GH¢742 billion (approximately US$50.9 billion), constituting 70.6% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

This debt is divided into GH¢452 billion in external debt and GH¢290 billion in domestic debt, representing 60.9% and 39.1% of the total debt stock, respectively.

The debt increased by 22% due to the depreciation of the cedi and ongoing disbursements from creditors.

Dr. Adam assured that the government is adhering to its budgetary constraints, having managed expenditures within the 2024 budgetary limits and exceeded midyear revenue targets by 0.2% as of June 2024.

He also highlighted the government’s commitment to achieving a primary surplus of 0.5% of GDP by the end of the year.

Further, he noted the successful completion of the second review of Ghana’s Extended Credit Facility with the IMF, which resulted in a third tranche disbursement of US$360 million, bringing the total to about US$1.6 billion.

The debt restructuring with the Official Creditor Committee (OCC) has yielded US$2.8 billion in debt relief, eliminating debt servicing from 2023 to 2026.

Negotiations with Eurobond holders have also led to a US$4.7 billion debt cancellation and US$4.4 billion in debt service relief for the same period.

I’ll project achievements of NPP and NDC to assist voters decide – Prophet Kofi Oduro

Ghanaian preacher Prophet Kofi Oduro has announced plans to assess and present the accomplishments of both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the past sixteen years.

His goal is to provide voters with a clearer picture of each party’s performance in preparation for the December 7 general elections.

Prophet Oduro’s announcement comes in response to comments by NPP running mate Matthew Opoku Prempeh, who claimed that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration has outperformed every previous Ghanaian president, including Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

Oduro criticized such comparisons, suggesting that they are inappropriate and urged both parties to measure their achievements against each other instead.

He plans to present his comparative analysis in November, outlining the achievements of the NDC and NPP administrations separately.

According to Oduro, this will help voters make well-informed decisions. He emphasized the importance of evaluating the parties’ records and making choices based on their contributions to Ghana’s progress.

In his video statement, Prophet Oduro also cautioned his congregation to vote with the nation’s best interests in mind, rather than being swayed by superficial comparisons.
“You compare yourself to Nkrumah? Comparison? Never do that comparison. Tell the people of Ghana what you have done, and if they want, they will vote for you.

“However, I will do this nation good. In November, I will do a series, and I am not talking about persons, 8 years of NDC, and 8 years of NPP. I will compare their works on this screen in this church, and when we finish, you will make the decision,” Prophet Oduro said in a viral video shared on TikTok.

Group petitions Akufo-Addo, NPP HQ to settle land dispute between Abu Ramadan and a party financier

A faction within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), calling itself the Coalition of Concerned Members, has formally petitioned the party’s national headquarters and the presidency regarding a land dispute involving Mr. George Oti Bonsu and Abu Ramadan, a relative of Second Lady Samira Bawumia.

This petition, dated July 10, 2024, underscored the urgency of resolving the issue given the upcoming December elections.

The group highlights Mr. Oti Bonsu’s role as a key party financier and expresses concern that his recent loss through the alleged demolition of ten of his properties in Adjiringanor, Accra could impact party support.

The demolition, which occurred on April 7, 2024, was reportedly linked to Abu Ramadan, though the Second Lady’s office has denied any involvement.

The petition emphasizes the significant financial loss Mr. Oti Bonsu suffered, estimated at $3.5 million, and calls for prompt action to address the dispute.

The coalition warns that failing to resolve the matter could alienate key supporters and undermine the party’s efforts to retain power in the upcoming elections.

The letter is addressed to President Nana Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Second Lady Samira Bawumia, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, NPP National Chairman Stephen Ntim, and the involved parties.

It is signed by Rev. (Rtd) Dickson Kankam Boadu, Nana Ekow Annan Nyarko, Francis Tosu, Zakaria Sulemana, and Madam Cynthia Akumoa Boateng.

“Indeed, the ordinary party member is alarmed that if the above-mentioned excruciating pain was unleashed on a distinguished financier of our great party without any action taken by the party leadership, then what would be the portion of the foot soldiers and ordinary card-bearing members like us?” the group queried in their letter.

It is against this backdrop that we, the Coalition of Concerned Members of the New Patriotic Party hereby make a passionate appeal to your highly respected office to take conscious and concerted steps to resolve this ravaging impasse between Mr George Oti Bonsu and Mr Abu Ramadan as early as practicable.

We are critically worried because our great party is preparing zealously for re-election in less than six months, and we need every party member’s intellectual, financial, physical, and logistical support to retain power” the group noted.

“This petition is duly signed by the leaders of the coalition who are loyal card-bearing members of the NPP and are in good standing, registered voters, and others working diligently behind closed doors to address this disturbing issue, hereby petition you accordingly for redress” the letter concluded.

During the show, Mr. Gyamfi defended former President John Mahama, claiming that it was under Mahama’s leadership, in accordance with constitutional provisions, that the groundwork for the Free SHS policy was established.

I’m not obliged to declare my political affiliation to anyone – George Quaye

Ghanaian playwright George Quaye has addressed critics who accused him of being affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following a Facebook post.

The controversy erupted after Quaye shared a photo of NPP flagbearers Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh at Prempeh’s unveiling on July 9, 2024, captioning the picture as “beautiful” and requesting the photographer’s contact details.

This post drew criticism from several individuals, including Edem Agbana, a former Deputy National Youth Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), who urged Quaye to be transparent about his political leanings.

Responding on July 11, Quaye noted that the reactions missed the post’s original intent, as no one provided the photographer’s contact information.

Instead, the comments reflected partisan sentiments, with opposition members expressing anger, party loyalists showing support, and others ready to argue with those holding different views.

Quaye emphasized that his political stance has always been clear to those familiar with him. He criticized the expectation that everyone should openly declare their political affiliations, arguing that such decisions are personal.

He stated, “Just for clarity, where I stand as far as GH Politics is concerned has never been in doubt. Those who know me know it. The fact that you wear yours like armour doesn’t mean everyone should. What you may call ‘cowardice’ may also be someone’s style. So please stop barking ‘Be Bold Be Bold.’”

Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe expresses surprise at Akufo-Addo’s silence over NAPO-Nkrumah remarks

Prominent figure of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has expressed dismay over President Akufo-Addo’s silence regarding a controversial statement made by Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO).

NAPO, the running mate to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, compared President Akufo-Addo’s contribution to Ghana’s development unfavorably with that of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

In an interview on Sunrise on 3FM with Johnny Hughes, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe criticized NAPO’s remarks as unwarranted and damaging to their party.

He expressed surprise that President Akufo-Addo has not publicly condemned or clarified NAPO’s statement.

Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe suggested that Dr. Bawumia should urge NAPO to apologize for his comments.

NAPO had asserted at his official unveiling as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate that no Ghanaian president, including Kwame Nkrumah, has contributed more to Ghana’s development than President Akufo-Addo since independence in 1957.

“That is why I say it is unfortunate. It has totally destroyed our party. I am surprised Akufo-Addo has not come out to condemn it or at least advise the running mate to Bawumia to come out with a sensible explanation of why he said that,” Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe said.

“If my running mate makes such a statement there are two things I will do. I will ask him to apologise, and if he fails to do so, I will ask him to resign. If he does not resign, I will resign,” he asserted.

“I can boldly say that if the history of Ghana is told from 1957, we have never had a president that has helped Ghana more than Nana Akufo-Addo. I mean from 1957, even including your Kwame Nkrumah, none of them has protected Ghana and developed the country more than Nana Akufo-Addo,” he said in Twi at his official unveiling event at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi on July 9, 2024.

Mahama’s father didn’t steal any generator, debunk those false allegations by Abronye – 98-year-old CPP man

The 98-year-old sub-chief of the Bole Traditional Area of Gonja, Gbenfuwura E.Y. Mahama, has rebutted claims made by Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, the controversial New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman for the Bono Region.

Abronye DC alleged that former President John Mahama’s father, E.A. Mahama, was dismissed as Northern Regional Commissioner under Kwame Nkrumah’s administration for stealing a generator.

In response, Gbenfuwura E.Y. Mahama clarified that he personally installed a 60 kVA diesel generator in Bole during the 1960s.

This generator was intended for use by a group of Soviet geological teams residing in 12 bungalows in Bole, engaged in mineral prospecting.

He explained that the generator later provided electricity to several public facilities in Bole, including the District Commissioner’s Bungalow, the Health Centre, and a school, with street lights added later.

Addressing the allegations, Gbenfuwura E.Y. Mahama stated that contrary to claims by Abronye DC, the generator was not misappropriated for personal use but was legitimately used to provide essential services in Bole.

He recounted that initial misunderstandings arose when some mistakenly believed the generator was meant for Yendi, prompting an investigation by Kwame Nkrumah’s administration.

After verifying the generator’s usage in Bole, Nkrumah acknowledged the misunderstanding and reinstated E.A. Mahama to a ministerial position in Accra.

Gbenfuwura E.Y. Mahama, a former District Organiser during Nkrumah’s tenure, emphasized the historical context and invited verification of the facts, highlighting that part of the generator remains in Bole to this day.

He said part of the generator is still in Bole, adding, “I am 98 years old. I’m still alive… they can come and examine it.”

He observed that the comments were largely driven by partisan sentiments, with opposition members expressing displeasure, party supporters showing approval, and others engaging in confrontational discourse.

Quaye emphasized that his political stance is well-known to those who are familiar with him, criticizing the expectation that everyone should publicly declare their political allegiances.

“Just for clarity, my position on Ghanaian politics has never been ambiguous to those who know me. Wearing one’s political views openly isn’t necessary for everyone. Sale of SSNIT Hotels: Your son’s technical proposal was weak – Osaafo Marfo to Freddie Blay

The Director General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo, has denied claims by Freddy Blay, the former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), regarding a rejected bid from his son’s company, Spartan Ives.

Blay asserted that SSNIT declined a $200 million offer from Spartan Ives to acquire a 60 percent stake in SSNIT’s hotels.

Osafo-Maafo explained that Spartan Ives’ technical proposal did not meet the required standards, falling short of the 50 percent threshold.

As a result, their financial proposal was not reviewed and was returned unopened, in accordance with legal protocols.

“The claim that has been made by Mr Freddy Blay that his son’s company, Spartan Ives bid 150 to 200 million dollars and SSNIT turned it down cannot be substantiated.

“For the process, you first go through an evaluation panel and score. Once scored and you get past the pass mark we then assess your financial proposal. That is the process and that is what the law requires us to do.

“We did exactly that. Spartan Ives did not get past the evaluation stage. Their technical proposal was weak and they scored below the required 50% so their financial proposal was not even assessed. The envelope was not even opened. It was returned to them. That is what the law requires us to do.

“So to say that SSNIT received an offer of 150 to 200 million dollars and turned it down is not accurate because the offer was never made, the offer was never opened,” he stressed.

Blay had previously stated in a June 24, 2024 interview that his son’s company, with substantial backing from a syndicate of banks and a reputable hotel chain, had bid for seven SSNIT hotels.

Despite these claims, SSNIT insists that Spartan Ives’ offer was never formally assessed.

“My son is about 33, 34 (years old). He’s grown up, and involved in business. I don’t answer questions for him. But that apart, my son, if you care to know, is not just involved in hotels, he is involved in the tourism industry.

“SSNIT offered to sell several hotels. He wanted a package and my son’s company Spartan (Ives SSA) applied alongside about twelve or so companies. He offered to buy it for over 150 to 200 million with a syndicate of banks supporting him and a well-branded hotel chain,” he said.

Furthermore, SSNIT revealed that negotiations to sell a 60 percent stake in four of its hotels to Rock City Hotel, owned by Food and Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong, have been suspended following instructions from the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA).

The Director General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo, has countered claims made by Freddy Blay, the former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Blay had alleged that SSNIT rejected a $200 million bid from his son’s company, Spartan Ives, to acquire a 60 percent stake in SSNIT’s hotels.

Osafo-Maafo clarified that Spartan Ives’ proposal did not advance beyond the initial stage due to its technical proposal scoring below the required 50 percent threshold.

Consequently, the financial proposal was never evaluated and was returned unopened, adhering to legal procedures.

“The claim that has been made by Mr. Freddy Blay that his son’s company, Spartan Ives bid 150 to 200 million dollars and SSNIT turned it down cannot be substantiated.

“For the process, you first go through an evaluation panel and score. Once scored and you get past the pass mark we then assess your financial proposal. That is the process and that is what the law requires us to do.

“So to say that SSNIT received an offer of 150 to 200 million dollars and turned it down is not accurate because the offer was never made, the offer was never opened,” he stressed.

In a June 24, 2024 TV interview, Blay had stated that his son’s company submitted a substantial bid for seven SSNIT hotels, which was backed by a syndicate of banks and a reputable hotel chain.

However, SSNIT maintains that Spartan Ives’ offer was never formally considered.

Additionally, SSNIT announced that ongoing negotiations to sell a 60 percent stake in four of its hotels to Rock City Hotel, owned by Food and Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong, have been paused following a directive from the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA).

Bawumia is ready to debate Mahama on any given day – JFK

General Secretary of Ghana’s governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua has announced that the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is prepared to engage in a debate with former President John Mahama.

He emphasized that such a debate would allow Ghanaians to hear from both candidates and make informed decisions ahead of the December general elections.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Pulse on July 2, Kodua stated, “His Excellency Bawumia is ready for former President Mahama, and I believe it will be a valuable opportunity for Ghanaian voters to listen to both leaders and decide wisely. I am confident that His Excellency Bawumia will outshine Mahama.”

Kodua highlighted recent polls suggesting a strong chance for Mahama in the elections, but stressed that the ultimate verdict would come from the December 7 vote.

He emphasized the importance of citizens voting for their preferred leader.

“In May 2023, the NDC elected former President Mahama, and between then and November when we elected His Excellency Bawumia, Mahama had ample opportunity to campaign unchallenged,” Kodua explained.

“However, once Bawumia became our flagbearer and started sharing his vision and achievements as Vice President, it’s no surprise that Mahama’s popularity, as indicated by surveys, has waned.”

‘We had a misstep’ – NPP MP on medical supplies held at Tema port

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom, Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, has admitted to deficiencies in Ghana’s management of medical supplies currently detained at the Tema port. These supplies, provided by the Global Fund and other international organizations at no cost, have been held up for over a year, causing significant strain on the nation’s health infrastructure.

In a recent interview with Channel One, Dr. Adomako Kissi highlighted the issue of delayed medical supplies, expressing regret over the mismanagement of these critical resources. He called for a more efficient and proactive approach in handling health-related imports, stressing the need for better coordination and oversight to ensure timely delivery to their intended recipients.

The MP emphasized the necessity for greater accountability and transparency in managing health resources, urging the government to learn from these lapses to prevent future occurrences. He pointed out that Ghana’s earlier vaccine issues were partly due to the expectation for the country to take over responsibilities previously managed by international organizations like GAVI.

Dr. Adomako Kissi acknowledged financial challenges in the country, which have affected priorities and availability of resources. He admitted that there have been missteps in managing these essential supplies, and emphasized the importance of prioritizing efficient distribution to enhance healthcare delivery across Ghana.

“…I think that we’ve goofed a little in all honesty…let me admit that our finances in the country are quite challenging…So our priorities will shift and the availability will also be a problem.”

“So I wouldn’t say that we haven’t had a misstep. We’ve had a misstep and it is unfortunate that items that are very useful in terms of our health prevention activities have suffered.”

Freddie Blay issues one-week ultimatum to Ablakwa, TV3 management for state capture claims or face lawsuit

Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and current GNPC Board Chair, Freddie Blay, has issued a one-week ultimatum to North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, TV3’s management, and broadcast journalist Johnnie Hughes. He demands a retraction of what he describes as unfounded and baseless allegations against him and his family regarding state capture.

Blay expressed his dissatisfaction with claims that his family illegitimately acquired beachfront property managed by Labadi Beach Hotel. He clarified that his children lawfully obtained portions of the beachfront from the La Traditional Council and that their property is independent of the hotel’s management.

He accused Ablakwa of engaging in cheap propaganda aimed at damaging his family’s reputation, following Ablakwa’s accusations of a grand scheme of state capture involving top NPP officials. Ablakwa specifically alleged that Blay and his sons acquired interests in beachfront property traditionally managed by Labadi Beach Hotel, thereby compromising the hotel’s exclusive control.

In an interview with Oyerepa FM, Blay explained that initial negotiations between his sons and the hotel’s management were unsuccessful, leading his sons to formally acquire the beachfront from the La Traditional Council. He defended his sons’ actions as lawful and questioned why the hotel has not contested this interest in court.

Blay asserted, “If the hotel considers that somebody has taken its lands, the courts are there; they should go to court. I have seen correspondence that tried to negotiate for them to work together, but it never worked—so nobody has taken anybody’s land, definitely not my children. They are not involved in any state capture.”

He further criticized the portrayal of his family by Okudzeto Ablakwa and some media personnel, including Johnnie Hughes and TV3 management, as engaging in illegitimate business activities. He stressed that these claims are damaging and misleading.

Blay has given the North Tongu MP and the TV3 presenter a one-week ultimatum to apologize for the allegations of state capture. “I feel very defamed. Where my sons are operating is not for Labadi Beach Hotel. It is not their property, and unfortunately, Ablakwa and Johnnie are making it look like I have stolen the lands, making people call me a thief. I give Okudzeto Ablakwa and the TV3 management, including Johnnie Hughes, one week to render an apology to me and my family, or I will go to court,” he stated.

Individuals belonging to two NPP factions in Walewale trade blows

The internal conflict within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Walewale Constituency is escalating as supporters of the incumbent MP, former Gender Minister Hajia Lariba Abudu, and Dr. Tia Abudu Kabiru clashed in the studios of Eagle FM 94.1Mhz in Walewale.

Dr. Kabiru won the January 27 parliamentary primary of the NPP, defeating Hajia Lariba Abudu by securing 145 votes. Following the defeat, Hajia Lariba Abudu challenged the election result in the Tamale High Court.

The NPP, aiming to resolve the dispute, requested an out-of-court settlement. The Tamale High Court, presided over by Justice Richard Kogyapwah, granted the request on March 27, 2024, giving the party six weeks to settle the issue.

A recent video circulating on social media shows supporters of both leaders in a physical altercation at Eagle FM. Supporters of Kabiru were discussing the issue on air when thugs, allegedly led by Musah, son of the NPP North East Regional Council of Elders chairman, attacked Haadi (a.k.a Yaagsim), a resident of Kperiga in Walewale. This prompted a retaliatory response from the youth, but Musah had already left the studio.

The unresolved court case remains a hot topic in Walewale as the party leadership struggles to manage the conflict.

In the January 27 primary, Hajia Lariba Abudu received 138 votes, while Dr. Kabiru secured 145 votes.

The NPP North-East Regional Chairman of the Council of Elders, Professor Naa Nabila Sulemana, has criticized Vice President and party flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for failing to resolve the internal conflict, suggesting that he could have influenced the former MP, who is his sister.

Ashis expressed hope for Yaw Sarpong’s recovery in the coming months and appealed for prayers and support from those impacted by his music.

Prior to the manager’s confirmation, gospel singers Diana Asamoah and Maame Tiwa had already informed the public about Yaw Sarpong’s condition. Akufo-Addo gave Agya Koo instruments worth GHC40K to campaign for him in 2020 – Dada KD

Ghanaian musician Dada Kwakye Duah, known popularly as Dada KD, shared his experience of being mistreated by some celebrities during the 2020 general elections.

He explained that he devised a campaign strategy to support the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo through a street musical concert. Dada KD recounted that he, along with actor Agya Koo and an individual named Pasco, presented the idea to President Akufo-Addo, who then approved and provided funds for their initiative.

In an interview with Captain Smart on Onua TV, Dada KD disclosed that he felt mistreated when Agya Koo appropriated GH¢40,000 worth of instruments and Pasco received a Tundra vehicle, while he, the originator of the idea, received nothing.

“I met two people and went to see the president with them to make a plea. Agya Koo and Pasco were the ones I accompanied. We proposed a campaign strategy involving music and concerts to support Akufo-Addo during the 2020 elections.

“Akufo-Addo responded to our request by providing funds and other resources. They allocated two billion Ghana Cedis for purchasing instruments and a car for the street campaign. In the end, Agya Koo took GH¢40,000 worth of instruments for himself, Pasco took the Tundra, and I received nothing, despite being the one who introduced the idea,” he stated.

Dada KD expressed his disappointment with his colleagues, feeling betrayed by their actions.

Jeneral, who campaigned for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the previous elections, spoke on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, expressing his commitment to speaking truth to power. Despite facing criticism for calling out the NPP’s unfulfilled promises, he remains steadfast in his mission.

He emphasized the need for Ghanaians to move beyond blind allegiance to political parties, urging people to speak up when things go wrong. He recounted instances where some criticized him for challenging the NPP, arguing that it’s better to support and criticize simultaneously than to silently endure mismanagement.

Regarding his future political support, Jeneral mentioned needing time to assess manifestos before deciding. Having studied Theatre Arts at the University of Ghana’s School of Performing Arts, he has become a prominent comic actor in Ghana. His filmography includes notable titles like ‘Keteke’, ‘Kalybos in China’, ‘Chaskele’, and ‘Mad House’.

In recent years, he has ventured into stand-up comedy, a field he previously avoided. In theatre, his performances in plays such as ‘Second Coming of Nkrumah’, ‘The Leopards Choice’, and ‘Adam in Court’ have left a lasting impact on audiences. Elections 2024 : NPP’s shady scheme with EC doomed to fail- Hopeson Adorye

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) member Hopeson Adorye has alleged that the Jean Mensah-led Electoral Commission (EC) is colluding with the NPP to manipulate the 2024 elections.

Adorye voiced these concerns during an interview on Kessben radio.

He expressed a lack of trust in the NPP, claiming that their attempts to influence the election’s outcome would be unsuccessful.

Adorye specifically accused the EC of sharing confidential voter data with the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government.

“I have evidence that the NPP is in cahoots with the EC to sway the elections their way,” Adorye asserted.

However, he reassured that these efforts would not succeed, stating, “I want to assure them that all their efforts will fail, and they will lose the elections decisively.”

Founding father of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Attah Boamah in New Jersey, has called for a new leadership within the national party.

He expressed that the NPP requires new leaders due to widespread dissatisfaction with the current administration led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Boamah criticized Akufo-Addo for failing to uphold the principles of discipline and accountability that he had promised.

Speaking at the NPP USA’s 30th anniversary event, attended by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Boamah stated, “What our forefathers did is what we are supposed to continue with. The party right now needs good leadership.”

“Nana Addo has failed the NPP. Why? He came in and swore to us that he would use discipline and accountability,” he added.

Boamah also issued a warning to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and other party officials, including former senior minister Osafo-Maafo, reminding them that the NPP is not the property of any single ethnic group.

“He (Akufo-Addo) failed. Look at what is going on in Ghana right now. The party doesn’t belong to the Akyem people. How many Akyem people in Ghana have registered to vote?

“This is a warning to the Vice President and the party officials, Osafo-Maafo, and the rest of them; they all need to sit back,” he said.

Prosecution of Ato Forson a vicious scheme by NPP- Gyampo

Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Professor Ransford Gyampo has characterized the prosecution of Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson in the ongoing ambulance case as a vicious scheme.

Prof. Gyampo warned that such actions by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) “should be worrying to all well-meaning Ghanaians who cherish our cohesion and peace.”

Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the ambulance case, claimed in his witness statement that Attorney General Godfred Dame once confided in him that he was under pressure from President Akufo-Addo and former Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta to prosecute Ato Forson.

In a Facebook post, Prof. Gyampo stated that if Jakpa’s allegations are proven true, the NPP would be the “worst offenders in decimating public confidence in our court and judicial processes.”

He elaborated, “The vicious scheme to jail Ato Forson at all costs by the NPP, as revealed by Richard Jakpa’s recent court application, should alarm all well-meaning Ghanaians who value our cohesion and peace. According to Jakpa’s testimony, the Attorney-General admitted that his involvement in the prosecution was to obscure the real motives behind the trial, driven by pressure from the President and Ken Ofori-Atta. Jakpa is requesting the court to allow him to testify and be cross-examined on these issues.

“If someone genuinely deserves punishment, so be it. But if Jakpa can substantiate his claims with evidence, the NPP would indeed be the worst offenders in eroding public confidence in our judicial system.”

Prof. Gyampo expressed his disappointment, noting, “It is disheartening that such actions are occurring under a regime we expected to know better.”

Bawumia advocates for reintroduction of road tolls

Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has advocated for a broadened road toll system to fund the development of Ghana’s road infrastructure.

Ghana eliminated road tolls in 2022 to alleviate traffic congestion on major roads. However, during his tour of the Volta Region, Dr. Bawumia proposed reintroducing a comprehensive tolling system to generate necessary revenue for infrastructure development.

In a meeting with the clergy in the Volta Region at the start of his tour, Dr. Bawumia addressed citizen concerns regarding poor road conditions. He acknowledged the Government’s funding shortfall for infrastructure projects and emphasized that innovative solutions like road tolls could bridge the gap.

Dr. Bawumia suggested that the Government’s approach to road funding needs reevaluation, advocating for private sector involvement to supplement toll revenue and provide needed infrastructure.

“Let’s reintroduce a broad-based road toll system,” Dr. Bawumia stated. “The tolling system must return, and I believe it will. It is a fundamental error for the Government to rely solely on the budget for road projects. The Government lacks sufficient funds, and the private sector must be involved.”

He proposed a lease payment option from the private sector to support infrastructure development, similar to their role in advancing the nation’s digital agenda.

Dr. Bawumia also shared his vision for Ghana if elected president, including expanding agriculture, ensuring power sufficiency, and reforming the tax regime. He highlighted the importance of formally recognizing the church’s role in national development and assured it of the necessary support.

Rev. Seth Mawutor, Chairman of the Christian Council in the Volta Region, emphasized the need to maintain national peace during the election period and pledged the Council’s ongoing support.

Accompanying Dr. Bawumia were NPP leaders, including Mr. Stephen Ntim, National Chairman of the NPP, and Mr. Stephen Asamoah Boateng, Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

During his tour, Dr. Bawumia also met with members of the Muslim community and the Volta Region House of Chiefs, and he plans to engage with the youth at a forum at Ho Technical University before continuing to the Oti Region on Friday.

Former NPP Chairman fails to name completed projects in Ashanti Region on live TV

During an appearance on Onua TV on May 22, 2024, former Third National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Michael Omari Wadie, failed to mention any completed hospital projects by the government in the Ashanti Region, a key stronghold of the party.

When asked to name a single project completed since the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration took office in 2017, Wadie struggled to provide an example and even resorted to searching on his phone.

The host of the show, Captain Smart, along with co-guest Hopeson Adorye, dismissed Wadie’s reference to the Sewua Hospital project. Captain Smart remarked, “Mahama built Sewua; it’s completed and has been left to rot in the bush.”

When Adorye questioned why Wadie couldn’t mention any of the Agenda 111 hospital projects, Wadie responded that some of these projects are expected to be commissioned in September 2024. Captain Smart and Adorye concluded that, in reality, the NPP had not completed any such projects.

Adorye also expressed frustration over a recent promise by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to ensure the completion of the Pwalugu Dam, a project that began in 2019.

Pwalugu Dam Project: Progress Stalled Despite Initial Promises

Nearly five years after President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo initiated the construction of the Pwalugu multipurpose dam project in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region, progress remains stagnant.

Despite a historic sod-cutting ceremony in November 2019, the project, which had been on the drawing board since the early 1960s, has faced significant delays due to long planning periods and bureaucratic hurdles.

The dam’s construction, aimed at addressing annual floods and deaths caused by the Bagre Dam’s overflow from upstream Burkina Faso, was expected to be completed in about four years and two months.

The project is being executed by Sinohydro, a Chinese state-owned hydropower engineering and construction company.

Financial challenges have been a primary reason for the delay.

Despite the government’s commitment, securing the necessary funds has proven difficult. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer, acknowledged these financial constraints as a significant hurdle.

At the launch of the Northern Development Authority’s five-year strategic plan in Tamale, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the government’s ongoing efforts to secure funds to complete the dam.

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has revealed that the Ministry of Finance is preparing a new bailout package for investors of the defunct Gold Coast Fund.

During his tour of the Northern Region, Dr. Bawumia addressed a group of investors who have been seeking compensation for their losses since the fund’s closure.

He acknowledged the significant challenges they have faced in recovering their investments and announced the upcoming financial relief.

Previously, the Ministry of Finance had provided a bailout of 50,000 Ghana cedis per investor.

Dr. Bawumia’s announcement brings renewed hope to these investors, offering further assistance to alleviate their ongoing hardships.

“We would have lost so many jobs and for some of the securities like Gold Coast securities, these were investments that were made by people and not the banking sector.

“These are not banking deposits, these are investments made by people. And people basically make their own evaluations of the risks in investing in certain institutions.

“Sometimes when they make a lot of money, we don’t hear any complaints but when they lose monies, then we may hear some complaints. And I know that it’s not easy for a lot of people who have put provident funds and so on into these institutions.

“The Ministry of Finance came out with a bailout, and I think each repository that they gave was about 50 thousand Ghana cedis and I think that the ministry is preparing another bailout for them because we believe that they are going through a lot of hard times,“ he stated.

  • NDC accuses EC and NPP of collusion in registering minors

NDC accuses EC and NPP of collusion in registering minors

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has levied serious allegations against the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana, accusing it of collaborating with officials from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to register minors in the ongoing registration exercise.

The NDC’s General Secretary issued an official press statement highlighting this concerning issue.

According to the NDC’s statement, a particularly troubling incident occurred at the Pusiga registration center.

There, an EC registration officer named Muhazu Alhassan allegedly used a single Ghana Card to register over 20 applicants, raising suspicions of collusion with the NPP.

In their press statement, the NDC expressed deep concern over the misuse of the Ghana Card and pointed out instances where EC officials, in partnership with NPP members, are allegedly exploiting this for electoral gain.

Following the discovery of these irregularities, law enforcement authorities were informed, resulting in the arrest of Muhazu Alhassan.

“Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press, we are compelled to address another grave concern: the flagrant abuse of the Ghana Card. It has come to our attention that EC registration officials, in collusion with elements from our opponents, the NPP, are misusing the Ghana Card extensively. A particularly alarming instance was uncovered at the Pusiga registration center, where EC registration officer, Muhazu Alhassan, used a single Ghana Card to register over 20 applicants.

Upon discovery, the police were promptly notified, leading to Muhazu Alhassan’s arrest.
Although he has since been granted bail pending further investigation, this incident raises significant concerns. The NPP’s distribution of Ghana Cards to minors to facilitate their registration underscores a systemic manipulation of our electoral process. The EC has lamented the registration of minors yet conspicuously fails to challenge the National Identification Authority (NIA) for issuing cards to these minors and misrepresenting their ages.”

Although he has been granted bail pending further investigation, this incident has brought to light broader concerns about the integrity of the electoral process.

The NDC also criticized the NPP for allegedly distributing Ghana Cards to minors to facilitate their registration, highlighting what they view as a systemic manipulation of the electoral system.

Furthermore, the NDC called out the EC for not challenging the National Identification Authority (NIA) regarding the issuance of cards to minors and the misrepresentation of their ages.

I didn’t find my name in voter’s register but I voted in 2020 – Richard Ahiagbah

Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah has acknowledged casting a vote in the 2020 general elections even though his name did not appear in the voters’ register.

In an interview with Accra-based Neat FM on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, Ahiagbah revealed that despite possessing a valid voter identification card issued after his 2020 registration, his name was inexplicably absent from the voting list.

“I participated in the 2020 election. The Electoral Commission (EC) officials should be queried as to how I was allowed to vote despite my name’s absence from the register,” Ahiagbah stated in Twi during the interview.

He recounted arriving at his polling station on December 7, 2020, only to discover that his name was not listed in the register.

Despite this, he was permitted to vote after presenting his documents.

Ahiagbah’s disclosure follows accusations from members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding his alleged double registration attempt at a Ketu South electoral registration center on Saturday, May 11, 2024.

A video circulating online depicted a chaotic scene at the center, with NDC agents questioning Ahiagbah’s eligibility to vote in the 2020 election.

Subsequently, evidence emerged suggesting that Ahiagbah indeed voted in 2020, though his name was manually added to the voter roll on the election day.

Responding to these events, the NDC called for Ahiagbah’s immediate arrest, citing double registration as the offense.

Malik Basintale, the NDC’s Deputy National Communication Officer, urged the Ghana Police Service to take action or face a potential citizen’s arrest.

“We will not permit the NPP’s illicit methods to undermine the 7 December election results. We possess the challenge form and call for his prompt arrest. Failing police action, we will take matters into our hands to safeguard the people’s will,” Basintale asserted during an interview with Metro TV’s Michael Addo on News Night.

2024 elections: Transfer power to us peacefully in your own interest – NDC to NPP

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has delivered a firm message to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), urging them to guarantee a smooth and peaceful transfer of power in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

During a press conference held on Thursday, May 9, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the National Chairman of the NDC, expressed concerns and accused the Electoral Commission of potentially facilitating President Akufo-Addo’s alleged reluctance to hand over power to their candidate, John Dramani Mahama.

Nketiah emphasized that NDC registration agents across the country would resist any efforts by the EC to reduce transparency in the voter registration process.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we do not expect the Electoral Commission of Ghana to act as the conduit through which Akufo-Addo will implement his avowed determination not to hand over power to the visionary, experienced and trustworthy John Dramani Mahama. NPP must choose a peaceful transfer of power from NPP to NDC in their own interest. The 2024 elections will not be business as usual,” he asserted.

He stated, “NPP must opt for a peaceful transition of power from NPP to NDC in their own interest. The 2024 elections will not proceed as usual.”

Additionally, Nketiah invited Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, and Faith-based Organizations to support their call for increased transparency and fairness, which he described as vital for peaceful elections.

“We wish to serve notice and notice is hereby served that NDC registration agents across the country will resist the EC’s clandestine attempts aimed at diminishing transparency in the voter registration exercise.

“Let me emphasise that our agents must activate the party’s super hi-tech application systems to transmit all serial numbers of BVR kits in their districts and electoral areas to the National Elections and IT Directorate of the party, with or without the approval of the EC.

“Finally, let me use this opportunity to repeat our call to all CSOs, Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, and Faith-based Organisations to join us to demand more transparency and fairness which is a necessary pre-condition for peaceful elections,” he called.

In response, the Electoral Commission has declined the NDC’s request for the serial numbers of the Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits used in the ongoing Limited Voter Registration.

Afenyo-Markin’s defense of GRA-SML deal is concerning – Ohene Ntow

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and now serving as Senior Advisor to independent presidential candidate Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, Nana Ohene Ntow has voiced strong disapproval regarding the NPP’s support for the contentious revenue assurance contract between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML).

In a recent statement, Ohene Ntow expressed concern over individuals such as Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin defending the GRA-SML deal, highlighting that the contract did not meet the necessary conditions for sole sourcing.

He particularly criticized the selection of SML, labeling it a “nascent company.”

Afenyo-Markin responded to calls for the full disclosure of KPMG’s report on the GRA-SML deal during a press conference in Accra on May 3.

He asserted that it is not within anyone’s right to demand copies of the report, clarifying that the report serves as advisory to the President and not subject to public release.

In a separate discussion on TV3’s The Key Points program, Ohene Ntow compared the GRA-SML deal to the ECG and PDS contract, expressing concerns over similarities in their structures.

He pointed out what he considered to be established illegalities in the contract and criticized government officials, including Afenyo-Markin, for supporting it.

“This issue becomes of big concern, especially with PDS in mind…PDS was not going to generate electricity, PDS was not going to provide any transmission facilities, just revenue collection. And the arrangement under which PDS contract was done is quite similar to this one [GRA-SML deal]. And those are the things that will raise concerns of nationally-minded citizens.”

“All the illegalities have been established beyond doubt, that this is a contract that you couldn’t have said should go for sole-sourcing. And all the explanations and the conditions under which sole-sourcing can be done…none of these were met and yet you go for sole-sourcing.

“This company is a nascent company, a company that was just born without any experience, no parliamentary and people in government, including the Majority Leader, Afenyo-Markin, are defending this matter. I mean, it’s very worrying,” he noted.

The controversy surrounding the GRA-SML contract continues to draw attention, with stakeholders expressing divergent opinions on its legality and transparency.

NPP dropped a dynamite in Volta Region to deter voters from voting – Adorye claims

Former member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hopeson Adorye, who has since parted ways with the party, has made startling revelations about the 2016 elections.

In an interview on Accra FM, Adorye disclosed that the NPP resorted to using dynamite in the Volta Region to instill fear and deter voters, resulting in a significant decrease in voter turnout.

Adorye expressed disappointment at the tactics employed, noting that by 2 pm on election day, voter turnout in the Volta Region was notably low.

He attributed this decrease to the intimidation caused by the use of dynamite, which he claimed was strategically targeted to weaken the stronghold of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the region.

Reflecting on his observations, Adorye stated, “Prior to the elections, we blasted dynamite in parts of the Volta Region, and that scared a number of people. When I finished casting my ballot in Tema, I drove to the Volta Region and realized that people did not come out to vote as expected.”

He further asserted that this tactic led him to believe that victory was assured for the NPP, as their actions had successfully influenced voter apathy in the Volta Region.

I put Wontumi in his place even in the presence of former president Kufuor – Dr. Richard Anane

Former Health Minister, Dr. Richard Anane recently spoke out against Ashanti Regional Chairman Wontumi‘s behavior within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He indicated that during a meeting in the presence of former President John Agyekum Kufuor, he addressed Chairman Wontumi directly, expressing concerns about his actions damaging the party’s reputation.

Dr. Anane emphasized that as the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Wontumi’s demeanor and actions should reflect the role’s responsibility as a unifying force within the party.

Instead, Dr. Anane believes Wontumi’s conduct has been detrimental, causing more harm than good.

“I chastised Chairman Wontumi in the presence of former President Kufuor. I told him directly in his presence that he is destroying the party. He should behave accordingly to his role as a chairman rather than causing more damage,” Dr. Richard Anane stated, highlighting the need for constructive leadership within the NPP.

Alan was overly pampered in the party; you are not entitled to any position – Kate Gyamfua fires

National Women’s Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kate Gyamfua has delivered a strong caution to Alan Kyerematen regarding his decision to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming 2024 elections.

During an interview on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Show on May 3, 2024, Gyamfua expressed her concerns about what she viewed as Alan’s lack of appreciation for the party that had supported his political journey for more than fifteen years.

She emphasized the perceived betrayal of Alan’s departure to establish his own movement, citing his long history within the NPP as a minister during both President Kufuor and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administrations.

“If I see an NPP member who has abandoned the party I get worried, look at the people who have gone to form the Afranfranto Movement.

“During President Kufuor’s time, you were a minister for 8 years, and during Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s tenure, you served as a minister for seven years. That’s a total of 15 years. And yet, you just turn your back on the party because the members didn’t vote for you during the primaries.

“Not that you were cheated or Bawumia went unopposed and you just decided to stand against your government. Karma is real and God will judge us all,” Kate Gyamfua stated.

Gyamfua highlighted the significance of loyalty to the party and criticized what she saw as Alan’s entitlement to the party’s top position based on his tenure.

She pointed out that Alan’s decision to contest independently stemmed from his belief that he deserved the highest position within the party without the necessary competition.

“Alan was overly pampered in the party, like a baby, that made him feel as if he is entitled to the seat. But even royal positions are fought for,” she added.

Gyamfua concluded by expressing her hope that Alan Kyerematen would reconsider his stance and return to the NPP fold.

Ejisu by-election: NPP commends Ghana Police Service for professionalism

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has praised Inspector-General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare for the exemplary conduct of the Police force during the Ejisu by-election.

The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, commended IGP Dampare for ensuring security during the electoral process.

The statement released by Frimpong expressed gratitude to the Inspector General of Police and the Ghana Police Service for their dedication, professionalism, and efforts throughout the election and its aftermath.

The highly anticipated by-election, held on April 30 following the passing of NPP MP and Deputy Finance Minister John Kumah, saw a competitive race among six candidates, including three Independents.

NPP candidate Kwabena Boateng emerged victorious with 55.79% of the votes, totaling 27,782 votes across 204 polling stations.

Kwabena Boateng’s closest competitor, former NPP MP turned Independent candidate Kwabena Aduomi, secured 21,536 votes, representing 43.24% of the 49,801 total votes cast.

Notably, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) chose not to participate in the by-election.

Is supporting meals on election day vote-buying? – Kumawu MP

The Member of Parliament for Kumawu constituency in the Ashanti Region, Ernest Yaw Anim, has addressed accusations of vote-buying leveled against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the recently concluded Ejisu by-elections.

He defended the practice of candidates financially supporting their supporters to cover expenses like food and transportation on election day, emphasizing that this is a common practice and not exclusive to the NPP.

Ernest noted that nearly all candidates in the Ejisu by-elections made similar financial provisions for their supporters, yet only the NPP is being criticized by the public.

During an interview with Oyerepa TV, Ernest dismissed allegations that the NPP used money to influence voters in the Ejisu by-elections.

Responding to claims that the NPP purchased victory by heavily investing in the election, Ernest calmly pointed out that spending money during campaigns is a standard practice for all candidates.

He argued that providing financial support for supporters’ food and transportation does not constitute vote-buying, as other candidates did the same.

His comments come in the wake of a video showing Kwadaso MP, Prof Kingsley Nyarko, placing an envelope on a table where Electoral Commission officials were stationed during the Ejisu elections.

The EC later stated that the money was intended for lunch for the officials.

However, some members of the public have rejected this explanation, calling for action to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Meanwhile, the NPP’s candidate, Kwabena Boateng, emerged victorious in the Ejisu by-elections, defeating his closest rival, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi.

  • I’ve not made any financial gains from the NPP – Agya Koo

I’ve not made any financial gains from the NPP – Agya Koo

Veteran Ghanaian actor Agya Koo, also known as Kofi Adu, has refuted claims of benefiting financially from his support for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He emphasized that his backing for the NPP is rooted in his genuine love for the party and belief in its principles.

In an interview with Nana Yaa Brefo in Ejisu, Agya Koo dismissed allegations that the NPP had provided financial support to help him through the challenges faced by the Kumawood movie industry.

He firmly stated that there is no truth to claims linking his NPP support to financial gains.

Addressing accusations of campaigning for the NPP solely for financial reasons, Agya Koo challenged critics to investigate any purported financial transactions.

He exclaimed, “Who even gave me money, and in which account was it paid? Check all the bank accounts and see which of them were deposited. Or did I carry the money from Jubilee House?”

Expressing his frustration with the accusations, he pointed out that few Kumawood actors joined him in his NPP support activities.

He specifically mentioned working with Matilda Asare and questioned the involvement of other actors such as Mr. Beautiful or Afrani.

Agya Koo’s recent appearance in the Ejisu constituency, campaigning for NPP parliamentary candidate Kwabena Boateng ahead of the scheduled by-elections on April 30, 2024, reflects his ongoing support for the party’s political endeavours.

  • No NPP MP, no development for you – Akufo-Addo tells Ejisu voters

No NPP MP, no development for you – Akufo-Addo tells Ejisu voters

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has asserted his authority, stating that until he leaves office, only members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) can advocate for development projects in the Ejisu constituency.

His remarks follow Kwabena Owusu Aduomi‘s decision to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming by-election in Ejisu.

Speaking at a gathering in Ejisu, President Akufo-Addo emphasized his role in the country’s governance until January 7, 2025, underscoring his final say in developmental initiatives, particularly concerning roads.

Expressing the need for a majority in Parliament, President Akufo-Addo urged the electorate to rally behind Kwabena Boateng to ensure effective representation for Ejisu.

“From today to 7th January 2025, the NPP government is in power under the leadership of Akufo-Addo. If you’re looking for someone who can convince the NPP president, then we need an NPP member and not an independent member who we don’t know. If he is getting help from some actors in the background to bad-mouth the party. Their plan will fail. It won’t happen,” President Akufo-Addo stated.

In a direct appeal to the constituents, he continued, “I came here to plead with you to help me. You can see what is happening in Parliament now. We need a majority even if it’s one vote to help us compete in Parliament and that one vote is Kwabena Boateng.”

He acknowledged the significant roles of Ejisu’s MPs, stating, “I know that Members of Parliament for Ejisu are mostly Ministers and even though there is a shorter time, I will see what I can do about it if you vote for him,” to an enthusiastic crowd in Ejisu.

The by-election, scheduled for April 30, 2024, was necessitated by the passing of Dr John Kumah on March 7, 2024, due to a terminal illness. Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has chosen to withdraw from the by-election to concentrate on the upcoming national election.

Mahama is the laziest President Ghana has ever had – Salam Mustapha

The National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, didn’t hold back in criticising former President Mahama, labelling him as the laziest President Ghana has ever seen.

Mustapha directly addressed Mahama’s inability to manage his personal office, questioning how someone who can’t handle their own office hours as President can aspire to lead an entire nation.

“You can’t run your own office but yo want to run a whole country. You are lazy, that’s why your office close by 5pm. How do I know that information because my friend uses your route everyday. You are othe laziest President Ghana has ever had,” Slam Mustapha stated.

Mustapha’s remarks didn’t stop there; he also called into question Mahama’s proposed 24-hour economy policy, arguing that the former President’s inefficiencies would hinder such an ambitious plan.

“You can’t run your own office yet you are talking about a 24hour economy. You cant;t possibly do it.”

According to Mustapha, Mahama’s office closes by 5 pm, highlighting what he perceives as a lack of dedication and capability to sustain a round-the-clock operational framework for the country.

The strong words from the NPP’s National Youth Organizer reflect a deep-seated criticism of Mahama’s leadership style and his policy proposals, setting the stage for heightened political discourse around the upcoming elections.

Qualities individuals should prioritize when choosing a life partner – Gabby Otchere-Darko shares

A prominent figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has emphasized the significance of thoughtful partner selection.

Otchere-Darko highlighted the essence of mutual appreciation and value addition in relationships, urging individuals to assess the qualities they admire in their prospective life partners.

His insights, shared via a Facebook post on April 16, 2024, underscored the importance of recognizing and cherishing the unique attributes that enhance the partnership, promoting a deeper understanding of love and companionship.

He submitted his views in light of recent remarks by Pastor Elvis Agyemang cautioning against marrying women with superiority complexes.

“A man and a woman become a couple because there are things about each other that the other values/cherishes/appreciates and by teaming up, it makes the partner/spouse better.

“Take your time, reflect and evaluate, look at all that you like about your other half, the things that they do that you may even take for granted, at home, at work, and begin listing the many things that they are better in than you. It may not have a price tag, but likely to be priceless. Don’t be blind to them.

“It is what partnership is all about; value addition in more ways than we may care to admit. Some call it love. Others simply see it as a way of life if not the way of life,” he said in a Facebook post on April 16, 2024.

Kwasi Nyantakyi shouldn’t be allowed to contest for election with his corruption background – NDC Member

National Democratic Congress (NDC) communications team member, Kwaku Asafo Adjei has strongly criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for allowing former GFA boss Kwasi Nyantakyi to participate in the upcoming primaries.

In an interview on Nhyira FM, Adjei expressed deep concern over Nyantakyi’s candidacy, labelling it as disturbing and questioning the NPP’s judgement in granting such visibility to someone with a criminal record.

Adjei accused the NPP of lacking respect for justice by allowing Nyantakyi, who has been caught on live camera engaging in criminal activities, to vie for the Ejisu seat.

“How can Kwasi Nyantakyi be allowed to contest for the Ejisu seat considering his criminal background? To even believe he is an NPP member shows how corrupt the NPP is. This man is given media platforms to speak despite being caught on live camera committing crimes. This is so wrong,” Adjei emphasized.

Nyantakyi has declared his intention to contest for the Ejisu seat following the passing of the deputy finance minister, John Kumah.

Additionally, nine independent candidates have also announced their candidacy for the vacant seat.
