“What new thing does the NDC have for us?” – Dome market trader endorses Bawumia

A trader at Dome Market has entreated her colleagues and the entire citizenry to rally their support behind the flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the 2024 elections.

According to Ohemaa Fosua (also known as Ohemaa Shatta), the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has nothing novel to offer as its presidential candidate, John Mahama, once governed the country.

She believes the ideal step to take is to give Dr Bawumia the mantle to lead and continue the good works done by President Akufo-Addo such as the Free Senior High School policy.

She also threw her support for Mike Oquaye Junior ahead of the 2024 parliamentary elections.

FLASHBACK: We regret voting for NPP, Gabby and others rejected us after 2020 elections – Okyeman Youth for Development

Two years ago, a faction identifying itself as the Concerned Citizens of Okyeman criticized Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for alleged deception during the 2020 general elections.

The group accused Otchere-Darko, a prominent member of the ruling NPP, of manipulating them into demonstrating against former President John Dramani Mahama, only to disregard them following the election victory.

In a Facebook post dated Friday, May 27, 2022, the Okyeman Youth for Development, one of the participating groups in the demonstration, expressed disillusionment with Otchere-Darko’s leadership, asserting that they had been abandoned after serving his interests.

The statement cautioned NPP delegates against blindly following Otchere-Darko’s directives and urged them to prioritize competence and trustworthiness in their decision-making processes.

The 2020 demonstration organized by these groups was sparked by Mr. Mahama’s sharing of an article on Facebook that labeled certain government officials involved in the controversial Agyapa deal as ‘Sakawa-Akyem boys’, inciting outrage among NPP members and other factions during the election campaign.

Protestors gathered in Asamankese, donning red and black attire and brandishing placards condemning what they perceived as tribalism from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and expressing support for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

President Akufo-Addo, addressing the issue during a meeting with the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference in August 2020, condemned the ethnocentric remarks while urging a cessation of such divisive language in politics.

The value is the same – NPP responds to ‘fears’ over Alan, Abu Sakara merger

New Patriotic Party (NPP) contends that the coalition between the Movement for Change (M4C) and the National Interest Movement (NIM) will have minimal impact on their electoral prospects in the December 2024 elections.

Deputy General Secretary of the party, Haruna Mohammed, argues that each party would have garnered votes independently, rendering the alliance inconsequential.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story on April 5, he said, “Come to think about it, these parties that are coming together would have contested the elections anyway. They would have contested in their own strength and they would have garnered the same votes as they were going to get.

“It is just like if you have 2+2+2 that is 6, if you decide to separate all the two to stand alone, it doesn’t change the numbers. If they come together, it is going to still give them the numbers that they would have gotten in the larger political discourse in terms of the contest.”

Haruna’s remarks came after a joint statement on April 4 by M4C’s Alan Kyerematen and NIM’s Dr. Abu Sakara Foster, announcing the formation of the Alliance for Revolutionary Change (ARC) following successful negotiations with various political factions.

The ARC aims to challenge the traditional dominance of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the NPP.

However, Haruna emphasised that while the NPP wasn’t overly concerned about the potential impact of this alliance on their electoral prospects, they remained committed to rallying these supporters for their cause.

Their goal is to secure political power in the upcoming 2024 elections.

“Notwithstanding that, we are not going to leave any stone unturned in terms of having engagement and making sure that we are able to get some of the smaller political parties to our side,” he said.

During the same program, Mustapha Gbande, Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, expressed his view that the new alliance serves to enhance and strengthen the country’s democracy.

FLASHBACK: I can make Ghana perfect in just 18 months – Akufo-Addo

Before assuming presidency, president Akufo-Addo pledged to transform Ghana’s fortunes within 18 months if elected to lead the country.

Akufo-Addo assured the public, stating,“I am promising you that within 18 months of a new government of the NPP, under my leadership, the face of our country, Ghana, is going to change. We are going to get out of stagnation and backwardness, and move our country onto the path of progress and prosperity. We can do it. We, the Ghanaian people, have the capacity to change the circumstances of our lives,” he noted.

He added “This ‘new Ghana will be a Ghana with opportunities for all, and where everybody is taken care off. We will have a society that is caring and compassionate and expresses solidarity. Nobody is going to be left behind. We are all going to march together, hands linked together, to that great future that beckons us, here in Ghana.”

Addressing tens of thousands of NPP supporters and sympathizers at the party’s Northern Regional Rally in Tamale on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, Akufo-Addo outlined his plans for rapid industrialization, including the ‘1-District-1-Factory’ and ‘1-Village-1-Dam’ policies.

He also pledged to diversify agriculture, implement Free SHS policy effectively, and establish an Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP), with each constituency receiving $1 million annually to address developmental challenges.

Akufo-Addo reassured Ghanaians that these policies, meticulously implemented, would enhance their standard of living.

He urged voters to support him in the December polls, promising to govern with respect for all citizens and a commitment to safeguarding the public purse for their benefit.

  • NPP is not buying votes with free tablets – Education Ministry tells Mahama

NPP is not buying votes with free tablets – Education Ministry tells Mahama

The Ministry of Education’s Public Relations Officer, Kwasi Kwarteng, has dismissed former President John Dramani Mahama’s allegations that the government is using free tablets for students as a means to buy votes.

“you bring a new curriculum, the children have no textbooks in basic schools for the last four years and you think that giving pre-tertiary students tablets is more important. Of course, everybody knows the political expediency.”

“The pre-tertiary students are going to register in May because some of them are going to be 18 and above. Some are 18 already and they are going to be the ones voting. So this is a gift to entice them to vote for the current government. It’s a bribe for them to vote for this government but I mean the students do not exist in isolation. They live in households and families,” Mr Mahama added.

Speaking to journalists in Accra, Mr Kwarteng emphasized the importance of keeping politics out of education.

He expressed concerns over the politicization of various national issues, including education, healthcare, taxation, and economic stability.

Mr Kwarteng highlighted the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to modernize Ghana’s education system in response to the fourth industrial revolution.

But Kwasi Kwarteng told journalists in Accrra on Thursday that “I think that yes, politics largely has an impact on socioeconomic transformation and everything but I mean sometimes let’s be fair, let’s stand up to the occasion, let the whole world know that it is not everything that we have to play politics with it, particularly education.

“We have allowed ourselves and destroyed every gain that we chalked as a country with the politicisation and extreme politicisation of issues.

“Today every topic that we raise, if we talk about National Health Insurance, it is politicised, if you talk about taxation, it is politicised, If you talk about the strength of our cedi, it is politicised,” he lamented.

He further stated “For some time now, the Ministry of Education has been repositioning Ghana’s education to meet what is happening in this fourth industrial revolution. And it is even more reason why even though the government has promised free SHS education, we have also gone beyond that to introduce STEM which is something that this government never promised.

“But with the fourth industrial revolution, it has become very relevant and we cannot just sweep that under the carpet. The digitisation concept is the conversation now, it is the order for the day. All over the world, countries that have been able to use education as the focal point to be able to turn their socio-economic fortunes have been through education.

He emphasized the significance of providing relevant education, such as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), to prepare students for the demands of the modern world.

“But not just any other ordinary education but one that is very relevant within the fourth industrial revolution. That is the reason why we have been talking about STEM and digitisation. In 2021, no elections were impending but the Ministry of Education as part of the effort to reposition Ghana’s education to meet what is happening in this 21st century, deployed 3500 laptops to teachers, at that time, there was no election in view or campaign.

Furthermore, Mr Kwarteng pointed out that initiatives like providing laptops to teachers and introducing smart schools are part of a broader strategy to enhance Ghana’s education system.

He stressed that these efforts are not driven by political motives but by a genuine commitment to improve education standards and equip students with the necessary skills for the future.

In conclusion, Mr Kwarteng reiterated the Ministry’s dedication to advancing Ghana’s education sector, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the long-term benefits rather than short-term political gains.

“But it is the continuation of that process. The effort to position Ghana’s education that is why we are also introducing things like smart schools. That is not even limited to those within the senior high schools. It has even gone beyond that to the basic schools” he stated.

This how The Fourth Estate introduced her, “If social media posts extolling the virtues of the NPP and some of its big wigs count for anything, then they certainly did for Celestina Amoako Atta.”

Per reports, Ms Amoako Atta, who is currently an Assistant Administrative Officer at the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), did not respond to subsequent calls by The Fourth Estate after the reason for the call was made known to her.

Also, a leading member of the NPP, Nana Poku Frefre was awarded a GBP28,080 scholarship to study for an MSc in Strategic Studies and Energy Security at the University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom in 2019.

The Fourth Estate reports that Mr Frefre, who is a founding member of the NPP branch in Scotland, noted that although he got the Scholarship Secretariat award, he opted for a much better one from GETFund.

Dr. Dennis Addo, CEO of the Claron Hospital and co-founder of Bisa, an internationally acclaimed health app, has been implicated in a recent exposé by The Fourth Estate, led by investigative journalist Manasseh Azure.

The investigation has revealed the identities of prominent and wealthy individuals who have reportedly secured scholarships intended for academically gifted but financially disadvantaged Ghanaians.

Per the report by The Fourth Estate, Dr Dennis Addo, who was appointed to the board of the National Health Insurance Authority from 2017-2020, managed to secure a scholarship through the Scholarship Secretariat to pursue a degree in Public Administration at Harvard University.

The report indicates that the Secretariat “paid USD50,031 for his tuition and living expenses in the United States in 2019”, even when he served as a Board member of the NHIA.

Dr Addo is said to have had two streams of financial support – one from the Scholarship Secretariat and the other, Cheng Fellowship, from Harvard University – during his 2-year tuition.

Dr Addo is a member of the governing New Patriotic Party, according to The Fourth Estate.

Don’t contest NPP’s Ejisu primary if you have a conscience – Vitus Azeem tells Kwasi Nyantakyi

Anti-corruption advocate Vitus Azeem has voiced criticism against Kwasi Nyantakyi, the former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), for his intention to contest the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary in the Ejisu constituency of the Ashanti region.

Azeem has raised moral concerns regarding Nyantakyi‘s candidacy, highlighting the lingering allegations of corruption that could tarnish his suitability for political office. While there are no legal barriers to Nyantakyi’s candidacy, Azeem emphasized the importance of considering the ethical implications of his bid.

During an interview on Citi News on April 3, 2024, Azeem advised Nyantakyi to carefully weigh the potential consequences before proceeding with his political aspirations.

“Whether he has been prosecuted or not, it is a dent on him and it cannot easily be wiped away. It may not be possible to legally bar him from contesting but as somebody interested in parliament, he should even consider contesting for an election.

“It is not even the fact that you come out to admit that you paid money but the mere fact that at the very beginning, he was the key player in the Anas investigations and even though he has not been investigated and prosecuted, he too has not been able to exonerate himself and has now implicated himself by admitting that he paid money to Anas to stop him from airing the exposé because it contained information that will further implicate him. If he has a conscience, he should not stand,” citinewsroom.com quoted him to have said.

NPP prevents constituency chairman from contesting vacant Ejisu seat

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has barred Mr. Kofi Ampofo Agyapong, the Ejisu Constituency Chairman in the Ashanti region, from participating in the parliamentary primaries in Ejisu.

Nominations for the primaries opened on Tuesday, 2 April 2024, following the death of the area’s MP, John Kumah, allowing interested members to pick forms.

Despite his interest in contesting, the Chairman was dissuaded by Former Majority Leader and MP for Suame, Osei Kyei-Mensa-Bonsu, as well as the Party’s General Secretary.

Speaking to the media at the opening of nominations at the Ejisu Constituency Office, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti regional Chairman of the party, confirmed the intervention, citing potential negative impact on the party if the Chairman were to contest.

Deputy Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for Ejisu, John Kumah, passed away following a brief illness, sources close to the family have confirmed to Citi News.

The 45-year-old MP is survived by his wife and six children.

Known as Lawyer John Kumah, he was revered by his constituents in Ejisu, Ashanti Region, for his integrity, dedication to job creation, and ability to instill hope for the future in people of all ages.

His passing leaves the Ejisu seat vacant, prompting consideration from NPP stalwarts to vie for the position.

Ghana does not need a Muslim leader – Alan

Former member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), now an independent candidate for the presidency, Alan Kyeremanteng, has argued that Ghana, being predominantly Christian, should choose a Christian leader as president in the upcoming 2024 elections.

He voiced this sentiment during his address at the Easter Sunday Convention held at the Dr. Thomas Wyatt Assembly of the Church of Pentecost.

After commending the church for its role in societal progress, he emphasised: “As a predominantly Christian nation, as Christians, it is our responsibility that we elect a Christian leader who is also a Christlike leader,” he stated while touting himself as the man to transform the country.

“If you are moved by God to vote for Alan Kyerematen, the leader of transformation, then I can assure you, as our Lord Jesus did on the cross, that you shall be in paradise with him. You will also be in paradise when I assume power,” he declared, eliciting applause.

His remarks have sparked criticism from activists within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing the former trade minister and NPP presidential hopeful of promoting division.

It’s worth noting that the NPP’s current flagbearer is Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, who is Muslim. Alan is a Christian, as is the other prominent contender, former President John Dramani Mahama, who leads the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the race.

Ghana’s Vice President and the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate for the 2024 presidential elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed his readiness to immediately assume office upon receiving the mandate from the Ghanaian people.

In contrast, his main opponent, John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has indicated a desire for a period of rest before assuming leadership responsibilities.

Speaking to party supporters and Easter celebrants in Kwahu, Dr. Bawumia stressed the importance of vigorous campaigning and extensive grassroots engagement to secure victory for the NPP in the upcoming elections.

He urged everyone present to actively promote and advocate for the party’s policies and achievements at all times.

“Unlike Mahama, he wants a honeymoon. After being elected, he won’t come back again so he won’t mind you. As for me, I’ll come back in 2028. So, I would have to ensure I do my best for you all. So, everyone must campaign very well.

“Today, we are going door to door, house to house to campaign to bring victory. It is possible, we are going to break the eight,” he said during his “It is Possible Mega Easter Walk and Mini Rally” at Kwahu on Saturday, March 30, 2024.

During the event, the vice president unveiled new strategies that his government plans to implement to tackle illegal mining if elected.

One of the key measures is the decision not to burn excavators and other machinery confiscated from illegal miners.

NPP running mate position “is not up for contest”, frontrunners will be disappointed – John Boadu

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has asserted that the position of running mate within the party is not open to competition.

He dismissed the idea that lobbying or vying for the position would be successful, stating that the final decision rests with the National Council of the party.

“The presidential candidate has a preference but if the National Council rejects it, he has to elect a new person,” the former NPP scribe said on Accra-based Peace FM.

Boadu’s remarks come amidst speculation and debates over potential candidates for the position of running mate to NPP’s flagbearer and Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Some of the prominent figures considered as contenders include Energy Minister Mathew Opoku Prempeh, Education Minister Dr. Yaw Adutwum, Chief of Staff Frema Osei Opare, Communications Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, and Member of Parliament for Bekwai Joseph Osei Owusu.

Boadu emphasized that even if the flagbearer has a preference for a running mate, the National Council has the authority to make the final decision, suggesting that the leading contenders may be disappointed when the official announcement is made.

John Boadu expressed that the choice for the NPP’s running mate will be someone who can support Dr. Bawumia and the party in retaining power and achieving the goal of breaking the eight-year cycle.

Mahmud clarified that the incident occurred following a prior act of vandalism against John Dramani Mahama’s billboard earlier in the year, carried out by unidentified individuals.

In response to this incident, the NDC issued a stern warning against such actions and reaffirmed their commitment to their campaign for the 2024 elections without assigning blame, he explained.

He expressed surprise at accusations made by the NPP’s parliamentary candidate and constituency organizer against the incumbent MP, Theresa Awuni, regarding the recent vandalism of their billboards.

Emphasizing the NDC’s dedication to peaceful campaigning, Mahmud cautioned the NPP against unfounded attacks to avoid escalating tensions into violence.

“We know our MP, Theresa Awuni, she has never been violent. John Mahama’s billboard was demolished and we issued a warning against it as we believe in peace. I don’t even know where this is coming from, it is not our habit. We are busy campaigning to want to destroy billboards.

“Akuapem North MP is struggling to introduce herself to Okaikoi North constituents by destroying her own billboards for sympathy. Come out and speak if you’ve paid me to do an agenda – Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah dares NPP, NDC politicians

Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, a journalist with Angel FM/TV, has boldly challenged any Ghanaian politician to come forward and prove that he has been paid to pursue an agenda that undermines any political party in the country.

In a recent statement, Afrifa-Mensah declared, “If anyone has given me any money, it is Julius Deborah. He gave me money to work as a media person. I’ve never taken his money for an agenda. If there is any politician who says I’ve come for his or her money to engage in an agenda, he or she should come out.”

He went on to recount an interaction with a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who advised him to choose a side while driving, either left or right, to avoid causing an accident. Afrifa-Mensah interpreted this as a metaphor for joining either the NDC or the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Afrifa-Mensah explained that he ultimately aligned with the NPP but maintained his independence by criticizing the party when necessary. He emphasized that his actions and opinions are not driven by financial incentives but by his commitment to truthful and unbiased journalism.

Afrifa-Mensah’s remarks highlight the importance of journalistic integrity and the need for journalists to remain impartial in their reporting, regardless of any external pressures or influences.

  • Akufo-Addo’s Minister fails to name 5 projects in Ashanti Region executed by current NPP gov’t

Akufo-Addo’s Minister fails to name 5 projects in Ashanti Region executed by current NPP gov’t

During a live TV interview on Oyerepa TV on Monday, March 25, 2024, Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei-Mensah was left momentarily speechless when asked about the projects undertaken by his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the region.

Prior to this moment, Osei-Mensah had issued a challenge to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to present ten legacy projects they had implemented in the Ashanti Region.

“They should give me 10 signature projects or legacy projects that they commissioned in the 8-year period they were in power, in the Ashanti Region,” he dared.

However, when posed with a similar question about his own party’s projects, he struggled to provide a comprehensive response, highlighting a lack of readily available information.

While Mr Osei-Mensah initially mentioned four projects, he appeared to struggle to provide further details or additional examples, eventually falling silent and unable to continue speaking.

“We have completed the Zipline project which is at Mampong… go and look at Bosomtwe Girls… By the end of April, you will see that planes can land at the airport… baby and mother unit that Auntie Rebecca came to commission is also our project,” and then the minister went blank on live TV.

After a brief pause, the minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, informed the host, Kwesi Parker-Wilson, that he would gather the remaining details and share them later.

NPP won’t hand over power to you – Wontumi to Mahama

The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, commonly known as Chairman Wontumi, has expressed confidence that the NPP will break the 8-year electoral cycle.

He affirmed that the party will not relinquish power to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its flagbearer, Former President John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Ashanti Region NPP campaign team, Chairman Wuntumi asserted, “Dr Bawumia will win the elections, and we shall break the 8, John Mahama will not give it to you because you are not the option, Bawulai will succeed Akufo-Addo”.

In addition, Mr. Dan Kwaku Botwe, the Campaign Chairman of the NPP for the upcoming 2024 general elections, stated that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer, will announce his running mate at the appropriate time. He mentioned that Dr. Bawumia will soon meet with the National Council of the NPP to discuss the selection.

Mr. Botwe emphasized the unity within the party, stating, “We are not divided at all. We have had successful polling station elections, successful electoral elections, successful constituency elections, successful regional elections, successful national elections, and successful presidential elections. We are united, and we will do it at the right time. We have done it before in 1992, 1996, 2000, and 2008, so it is not an issue at all.”

He further clarified, “At the appropriate time, the presidential candidate will meet the national council, and we shall have a discussion and name the running mate. So far as I am concerned, there is no contest for a running mate.”

  • Campaign billboards of Ama Dokua vandalized

Campaign billboards of Ama Dokua vandalized

Unknown individuals vandalised at least six giant billboards belonging to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Okaikwei North, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei, on March 1, 2024.

The billboards, strategically placed at locations like Kata Hostel, Nii Boye Town, and Achimota, suffered significant damage amounting to thousands of Ghana cedis.

Reports suggest that the destruction was deliberate and targeted, with no clear motive behind the vandalism.

Some NPP members suspect foul play orchestrated by members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), particularly implicating the incumbent NDC MP Theresa Awuni.

Kwabena Amoako, speaking on behalf of the NPP constituency in Okaikwei North, condemned the incident and reported it to the police for investigation.

He expressed suspicion that NDC members were responsible for the destruction, alleging an attempt to tarnish the image of the NPP parliamentary candidate by portraying her as violent.

“Instead of them focusing on how to do their campaign, they try to attack her during her events. They always want to provoke her to create the impression that she is violent. We hope the security agencies will take this issue up to prevent it from escalating,” Amoako stated in an interview with GhanaWeb.

Confirming the incident, the police have assured that investigations are underway. However, the NDC office in the constituency has yet to respond to queries regarding the matter.

The Okaikwei North constituency has become a focal point of political attention ahead of the upcoming December general elections.

Despite being traditionally considered a stronghold for the ruling NPP, the constituency witnessed a surprising victory for the opposition NDC in the December 2020 elections, reflecting growing discontent among party supporters against the former MP, Fuseini Issah.

As tensions escalate in the lead-up to the 2024 elections, the destruction of the NPP billboards highlights the heightened political competition in Ghana’s electoral landscape, raising concerns about potential acts of sabotage and violence.

  • Wicked NPP and NDC politicians want ECG boss out – Netizen

Wicked NPP and NDC politicians want ECG boss out – Netizen

User on the X platform has indicated that the Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana, (ECG) Samuel Dubik Mahama is actively pursuing initiatives aimed at modernizing Ghana’s energy infrastructure and improving the reliability of the power supply.

However, his efforts are being impeded by certain individuals from both the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The user suggests that these individuals’ actions aim to thwart and frustrate the managing director of the ECG into resigning from office.

Taking to the X platform he wrote “Truth of the matter is, the current young ECG boss is trying to do something different to save Ghana from the chronic power crisis but Noo, the old folks and wicked NPP and NDC politicians/businessmen want him out. How can we progress?”.

Over the past few weeks, the nation has experienced widespread power outages, commonly known as “dumsor.”

In light of these interruptions, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) instructed ECG to devise a load-shedding schedule. Nonetheless, ECG asserts that there is no power crisis, citing faulty transformers as the cause of the unstable supply.

However, ECG contends there is no power crisis, attributing the unstable supply to faulty transformers.

In a rebuttal, Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh rejected claims of “dumsor,” urging the public to create their own timetable if they perceive a crisis.

John Jinapor argues that the energy sector grapples with generation challenges affecting distribution. He recommends that PURC prioritize improving generation instead of enforcing a load-shedding schedule.

Speaking to the media, Jinapor criticized the Minister’s response, accusing him of politicizing sector issues.

Executive Director of the Institute of Energy Security, Nana Amoasi VII, echoes Jinapor’s position, asserting that ECG and the Energy Ministry have a duty to furnish a timetable amid outages.

Nana Amoasi VII condemned the Minister’s dismissal of calls for a timetable, suggesting it reflects a lack of awareness and disrespect for consumers’ rights.

“I am very, very surprised even at the PURC directive because the main problem is generation, it has nothing to do with transformers. I thought that the PURC would have done its investigation to indeed determine that there is a generation shortfall.

“If there is a generation shortfall, the outage that occurs at the bulk supply point is controlled by GRIDCo. So GRIDCo will then have to inform ECG which bulk supply point will go off, then ECG will inform its consumers. As we speak there is a deficit in terms of generation and until that is resolved we will continue to have the load shedding we are experiencing.”

“I am very shocked and surprised that the minister would give such contradictory and counter instructions. He should know better that we are shedding load, and even in his interview, he couldn’t refute it. He admitted that yes, they are shedding load, but in his opinion, it is better than during President Mahama’s time. And so what? That is the question. Let’s assume it’s better, so people should not be given a timetable to plan because, in the minister’s opinion, it is better.

“If you admit there is load-shedding, give the people the timetable to plan. And when the people request that the outages are becoming too frequent, give us the timetable to plan, the minister says ‘that those requesting the timetable should go and prepare the timetable themselves. It is extremely unfortunate, very insulting,” he added.

‘Moment of silence’ as Ashanti Minister struggles to list 5 NPP legacy projects

Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, was speechless during a live TV interview when he was asked a question about the projects that his party, the NPP, has been able to do for the people of his region.

In the interview on Oyerepa TV on Monday, March 25, 2024, Simon Osei-Mensah could be seen struggling to give answers to the question of what he and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had been able to do.

After speaking about four such projects from his party, for the region, the minister went blank and quiet, unable to say any more words.

“We have completed the Zipline project, which is at Mampong… go and look at Bosomtwe Girls… By the end of April, you will see that planes can land at the airport… baby and mother unit that Auntie Rebecca came to commission is also our project,” and then the minister went blank on live TV.

After a brief pause, the minister assured the host, Kwesi Parker-Wilson, that he would gather additional information and provide it later.

Interestingly, prior to being questioned, he had challenged the National Democratic Congress to present ten legacy projects they had initiated in the Ashanti Region.

However, when faced with a similar inquiry himself, he found himself unable to provide a satisfactory response, highlighting the irony of his earlier demand.

“They should give me 10 signature projects or legacy projects that they commissioned in the 8-year period they were in power, in the Ashanti Region,” he dared.

  • KTU Director rallies support for Chief of Staff in NPP running-mate position race

KTU Director rallies support for Chief of Staff in NPP running-mate position race

Director of Research and Innovation at Kumasi Technical University (KTU), Prof. Smart Sarpong, has expressed his support for Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, the Chief of Staff, as a strong candidate for the position of running mate.

During an interview on Kessben TV on Thursday, March 21, 2024, Prof. Sarpong compared Osei-Opare’s political prowess to that of the current NDC running mate, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.

He highlighted Osei-Opare’s political achievements, such as her grassroots experience as a former MP and her tenure as Chief of Staff, as factors that make her well-suited for higher office.

Prof. Sarpong emphasized Osei-Opare’s rise through the political ranks and her effectiveness in education, noting that her impact is comparable to that of Prof. Opoku-Agyemang.

He contrasted this with Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s lack of political representation at the constituency level, suggesting that Osei-Opare’s grassroots political experience gives her an advantage in connecting with the electorate.

When it comes to discussions on who would better and ideally be the running mate and subsequent Vice President, it is more deserving and favourable for Frema Osei-Opare than Jane Naana Opoku. Because Frema was a grassroots MP before. For instance, she is a former Ayawaso West Wuogon Member of Parliament,” he stressed.

He indicated that “if both Mrs. Frema Osei-Opare and Prof. Jane go on a political campaign debate, it will be interesting because they will both have the flare to talk about their education portfolios, with Prof. Jane talking about UCC and Frema Osei-Opare talking about UG, which will be refreshing.”

Prof. Sarpong also addressed concerns about Frema Osei-Opare’s age potentially hindering her eligibility as a running mate, stating that divine intervention ultimately determines political appointments.

He emphasized the significance of Osei-Opare’s potential candidacy in strengthening the electoral prospects of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and supporting Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia in securing victory in the 2024 elections.

Our misunderstandings do not mean we are not united – Chairman Wontumi

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Chairman Wontumi, rebukes members and executives for airing grievances in the media rather than utilizing internal channels, citing the action as detrimental to party unity and in violation of the NPP’s Constitution.

In response to a recent petition filed by six elected Ashanti Regional party executives to the national leadership, alleging Chairman Wontumi’s neglect of duty, he defends himself, highlighting the importance of unity among executives as the party gears up for the December general elections during the inauguration of the party’s campaign team in the Ashanti Region.

“In our companies, offices sometimes we have some misunderstandings, but it doesn’t mean we are not united. NPP we are poised to unite and win the 2024 elections, winning is not negotiable, we are united ever. We are united as a strong party to break the 8, we cannot disappoint Ghanaians and the Ashanti region” he said in an interview on Citi News.

NPP’s Campaign Chairman, Dan Botwe, emphasizes the importance of utilizing internal structures for addressing grievances, urging party members to refrain from airing their concerns publicly.

“If you have a grievance talk to people to solve it, if you go to the radio station and discuss it what do you achieve by doing that? We’re in a contest with others and we have to send a message that we are disciplined and focused and it’s important that we apply all those things in resolving our problems,” he said.

NPP lawyer! All you know is to give “political and senseless” advice – AnnanPerry slams Attorney General

An X (formerly Twitter), KOJO DYNAMIC @AnnanPerry, believed to be a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused the Attorney General of Ghana, describing him as a lawyer of the incumbent government, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and not a servant of the country as his role demands of him.

“Godfred Dame doesn’t see himself as an Attorney General of Ghana but as a NPP lawyer. All his advice is political and senseless”.

His comments come after Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame recommended to President Akufo-Addo that Parliament hold off on sending the anti-LGBTQ+ bill for assent.

This suggestion was conveyed in a letter signed by Nana Bediatuo Asante, the President’s Secretary, on March 18.

The Attorney General cited two pending Supreme Court applications for interlocutory injunctions as the basis for this advice.

This move garnered several reactions, with many blasting the president for disrespecting the spirit of the law and undermining democracy.

The Minority and the Speaker of Parliament heavily criticised the President.

Prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the current Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, recently disclosed his membership in the Freemason Society.

He shared insights into his journey into society and outlined some of the qualifications for membership.

According to him, Freemasonry focuses on fostering connections and camaraderie among its members.

He expressed his admiration for society, highlighting the sense of enjoyment they derive from each other’s company.

Mr. Jumah emphasised that the primary requirement for joining is to possess good character.

“I’ve been a Freemason for some time now, and while I may still have dues to settle, I hold them in high regard. They’re a group that knows how to enjoy themselves.

“We primarily engage in Bible readings; that’s the extent of our activities. I’ve never witnessed any other rituals beyond that. Freemasonry strictly admits men of good character. I was recommended by someone who saw those qualities in me.

“The society isn’t exclusively for the elite; rather, it’s open to anyone of upright character. The key is to steer clear of criminal activities, such as murder or theft,” he said in an interview on Adubia TV on Youtube.

Disgruntled Ashanti NPP executives want Wontumi out

Six executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region have filed a petition against Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Wontumi, who currently serves as the regional chairman.

The petition accuses Wontumi of various shortcomings, including a failure to convene important meetings, neglecting regional executives, and underutilizing party structures.

These allegations suggest a lack of cohesion and effective leadership within the party.

The petitioners are calling for urgent action to address these issues, proposing a postponement of the regional inauguration of the campaign team to allow for a thorough examination and resolution of the concerns raised.

As the NPP faces internal challenges, there is a growing need for the party leadership to respond decisively and navigate the organisation back on track towards its objectives.

Ashanti Region: I’ll sleep on Dec 7 rather than waste my time to vote for NPP or NDC – Electorate

Electorates at Kejetia Dubai in the Ashanti Region have shared details on what exactly would persuade them to vote for a candidate in the upcoming polls.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Voters’ Voice, citizens shared diverse reasons they would vote for a particular candidate from a political party.

A trader noted that if she had her way, there would be no election. She noted that the two major political parties, namely the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), are cut from the same cloth.

“They are all the same. They come to squander money. If I had my way, I’d cancel the elections”, a trader said.

A trader who shared a similar position noted that she would prefer to sleep than vote. According to her, the ordinary citizen is left to fend for themselves as the leaders continue to enrich themselves and their families.

“They are all the same. They only know family and neglect us. So I will sleep, when NDC comes, I suffer alone and it is same for NPP. They are spending our money but they don’t even look after us. I will sleep or work rather than get a job for somebody.

Others were against the idea of former President Mahama making a comeback.

“If we follow Mahama, it will not help us. Under Atta Mills’ era, they collapsed the one time premium for us. It didn’t help us. He will cancel free education.

“We want change in the country and so if you can bring the development we want. So whether NPP or NDC, we need someone to bring more industries.

A trader noted that her vote is for the ruling NPP due to the Free Senior High School programme implemented by President Akufo-Addo’s in 2017.

“We have benefited a lot from the free SHS. I will vote for Bawumia.”

Others who decided that they would vote for NPP flagbearer, Dr Bawumia cited his digitalisation agenda as reason.

NDC’s Mahama received no support from electorates. It is important to note that the Ashanti Region is the stronghold of the NPP.

Margins Group and NPP do not work together – CEO clarifies

Margins Groups, the technical partners of the National Identification Authority (NIA) which is responsible for the production of the Ghana Card has denied having any link with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

It is reported that Margins Groups has been contracted to print Ghana cards due to its affiliation with the government, but Chief Executive Officer, Moses Baiden, explained that the company has been in operations for a while, and as such, it has handled several other contracts since 1995.

Speaking to a joint Subsidiary Legislation, Defence and Interior parliamentary committee on March 14, Mr Baiden stressed that the Margins Group was a private business which got their contract by dint of hard work.

“We are the first large-scale National ID project in the world and we designed it right here in Ghana.

“Some months ago some people say that they were an NDC company, they were an NPP party link but actually, the first national ID, 1995… during the Rawlings era, we were the only local company that competed,“ he said.

He also stressed on the number of foreigners registered for Ghana Card.

“So till date we have registered 183,000 foreigners from 216 different nationalities. So, today you can tell how many foreigners are in Ghana from each country, where they live and what they do. We are yet to get the full benefits of the data,” he added.

On the other hand, the Margins Group said it has uncovered thousands of fake national IDs.

It made this discovery after harmonising data from the Ghana Card with other national identity documents including passports, health insurance cards, driver’s licenses, and others.

NPP will lose 2024 election, any other verdict would mean stealing went on – Nyaho-Tamakloe

A statesman and stalwart of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has stated that his party has no chance of winning the upcoming December 7, 2024, presidential elections.

He believes that any result other than a change in government would suggest foul play and could lead to serious consequences.

JoyNews journalist Benjamin Akakpo asked whether he “thinks the NPP would lose the election”, during an interview on Thursday, March 14, 2024, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe retorted, “any other result that would come, would be what we’ve termed: ‘The stolen verdict’.”

“And it would bring problems to this country, you have no idea,” he added.

He explained that Ghanaians are unlikely to vote for his party due to the current economic situation in the country. Additionally, he stated that members of the NPP do not support the party’s flagbearer, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Bawumia himself is in a tight corner. Tight corner because he is not himself. Secondly, he has been put in a position that is not the wish of majority of the party members. But for the backing of Akufo-Addo with money, Bawumia couldn’t have won that position.

“… and also think about the mess we have created during these 8 years. People are no fools, they are no fools at all,” he said.

The NPP leading member added that his party also has issues in its “Word Bank,” the Ashanti Region, due to the breakaway of the leader of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, from the party, and the current internal issues it is facing.

Ghana would have still been in a mess without COVID-19, Russia-Ukraine war – NPP MP

Chairman of Parliament’s Finance Committee, Kwaku Agyemang Kwarteng, has dismissed the notion that Ghana’s current economic crisis is solely attributable to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and the COVID-19 pandemic.

He emphasized that the crisis largely stems from decades of imprudent expenditure and mismanagement of economic resources.

“I am not with the school of thought that we were not going to experience a financial crisis but for these [Covid-19 and Russia-Ukraine War].

“The country was always going to have some financial crisis. It might have been delayed a little bit if Covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war had not happened but the fact remains that with the path we were walking, we were definitely going to get here,” the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Obuasi West told Joynews in an interview.

Mr Kwarteng explained that while these global events might have postponed the crisis to some extent, Ghana was inevitably heading towards this situation due to its historical trajectory.

He highlighted a prevailing culture of overspending and a lack of fiscal discipline in Ghana’s economic management.

Attributing the crisis to a culmination of poor political and economic decisions over the years, Kwarteng stressed the need for a fundamental shift in mindset and a renewed commitment to fiscal responsibility.

He warned that without such changes, Ghana risks sliding towards failure as a state.

  • If you dare me, I will expose you with serious videos! -Captain Smart warns Sefa Kayi, others

Broadcast journalist Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, has threatened to publish some videos that show the corrupt nature of some journalists whom he says side with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a video gone viral, he challenged the host of Peace FM’s Kokrokroo show, Kwame Sefa Kayi and others, whom he says belong to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), criticizing them for what he perceived as seeking positions and favors through corrupt means.

“You NPP dogs, you are going round begging for positions. I was given a deputy minister position and I rejected it. I was given Chieftaincy and I said I didn’t want it. Ask Frema Opare. I was given a Land Cruiser, but I didn’t want it. You are in this country seeking positions and cars,” he said.

He alleged that some of these individuals have engaged in immoral acts and also deal in drugs. According to Captain Smart, he has evidence to bring these politicians down.

“My Board Chair has not slept with a lady in the garage and had to GHC100,000. My CEO does not deal in cocaine.

“Bring it on. The videos I will be playing. The videos I will leak, you will clap for me. Why do you think David went up against Goliath. Just one stone,” he added.

Prior to this, Kwame Sefa Kayi, a respected journalist and media personality, challenged broadcaster Captain Smart’s assertion that John Kumah, the Deputy Finance Minister, was poisoned.

Sefa Kayi questioned the basis for such a claim, emphasizing the need for concrete evidence before making such serious allegations.

“Now we are asking, you that said he died due to poisoning, bring the evidence. Where will you bring it,” he said on the Kokrokoo show.

  • We are fed up with NDC, NPP; we need a third force – Manklalo Togbe Brentuo Asafo IV

We are fed up with NDC, NPP; we need a third force – Manklalo Togbe Brentuo Asafo IV

Manklalo of the Mafi Traditional Area, Togbe Brentuo Asafo IV, has expressed the need for a third political force in Ghana.

In Mafi, during a political tour of the Volta Region by founder and leader of the Movement for Change, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, he noted that Ghanaians have not seen sufficient development from the two major political parties; the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He noted that Ghana would see the needed change if Mr Kyerematen is given the nod to lead the country.

“We want to have a third force. We are fed up with the NDC and NPP. I am not condemning them, they have done what they could. They have too much time in power. We pray God makes him [Alan Kyerematen] the third force to govern us. The chiefs and people of Mafi are behind him”, he said.

Mr. Kyerematen affirmed this sentiment, stating that Ghanaians are calling for a change and a new leader to guide the country’s affairs.

“The majority of Ghanaians are looking for change. They are asking for a government of national unity, a union government which will not only be composed of people who are politicians. But all our stakeholders, including chiefs, religious men, and various people”, he said.

He also announced that the Volta Region would receive a significant portion of development projects under his administration to boost the region’s status. He highlighted the region’s potential in agriculture, oil and gas, tourism, and other sectors.

Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, has promised to transform Juapong into an economic hub by reviving the Volta Star Textile factory, enhancing the market, and establishing a trader’s bank in the area.

Mr. Kyerematen made this announcement during his Market Tour of the Volta Region, starting at the Juapong Market in the Central Tongu District. His tour is part of his campaign efforts ahead of the December 7 general elections.

Local Textile manufacturers expressed worry in January last year that, after a series of interventions by Volta Star Textile Limited (VSTL), the company is still not able to produce to meet the demand of local producers.

Volta Star is the only state-owned local processor of cotton for fabric manufacturers in the country established under the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

Mr Kyerematen also announced plans to establish the largest skills development center in the entire West Africa sub-region, with a focus on the Volta Region.

This initiative is part of his regional development agenda, where each region would have a specific project aimed at improving the country’s economic status.

Continuing to the Ho Central Market, Mr. Kyerematen urged traders to support him to make the region a hub for skills development.

The Movement for Change team concluded their tour at the Sogakofe Market, reiterating their commitment to the region’s development.

Bawumia beats Mahama in recent poll – Report

A survey conducted and published by The Outcomes International, Ghana, has indicated that the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is gaining ground in crucial swing constituencies compared to his main rival, John Dramani Mahama.

In key areas like Greater Accra, Central, and Bono regions, where the majority of respondents (977) were sampled, Dr. Bawumia is perceived to have strengthened his electoral support and increased his popularity.

Conducted between February 10th and 25th, 2024, the research team posed a fundamental question to voters: if elections were held today, who would they vote for? The majority expressed greater confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s ability to address economic challenges as president, surpassing John Dramani Mahama.

According to the survey report, while former President Mahama secured victories in Ablekuma Central, Adentan, Ledzokuku, and Awutu Senya West, Dr. Bawumia dominated in La Dadekotopon, Cape Coast North, Twifo-Atti Morkwa, Dormaa West, and Jaman North.

In terms of overall performance, Dr. Bawumia holds a slight lead with 43.5%, while Mr. Mahama follows closely with 42.1%.

Notably, 6.9% of respondents expressed intent to vote for other candidates, and 7.4% remained undecided during the polling period.

Ibrahim claimed that Walker’s actions were orchestrated by former President John Mahama and NDC Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi to tarnish Dr. Bawumia‘s image.

And for undertaking such actions, Ibrahim alleges that Mr Walker has been appointed as the Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Social Media Team.

“Congratulations to Roland Walker of TV3 for his appointment as the Director of the NDC Social Media Team. Man has truly worked hard for this appointment. He was tasked by John Mahama and Sammy Gyamfi to throw his profession to the Dogs and attack Dr. Bawumia and the NPP at any given opportunity for this appointment,” he wrote.

Mr Walker has not publicly responded to the allegations, and there has been no official confirmation from the NDC regarding his reported appointment.

“Dem dey fear” – Netizens troll NPP ‘gurus’ over water rejection at John Kumah’s funeral over poison fears

Social media users on the platform X, formerly known as Twitter, are mocking the perceived fear of poisoning within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) after a viral video surfaced.

The video captures the party’s National Organizer, Nana Boakye, and other officials rejecting bottles of water offered at a funeral ceremony.

Following the recent passing of John Kumah, Deputy Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament for the Ejisu constituency, rumours circulated suggesting that both Kumah and Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, were poisoned after an event in Tamale.

These theories, along with claims of potential assassinations targeting NPP officials due to their political aspirations, lack evidence but have heightened tension within the party.

In the viral video, Nana Boakye and Justin Kodua, the General Secretary of the NPP, are seen refusing to accept water offered to them at a funeral ceremony.

The video has sparked ridicule online, with some users questioning the officials’ alleged fear of poisoning and daring them to accept the water.

IGP, this should be a wake-up call; allow the prophets – Nigel Gaisie after prophecy on John Kumah’s death

Following the passing of Deputy Finance Minister John Kumah, Prophet Nigel Gaisie of Prophetic Hill Chapel has urged Inspector General of Police George Akuffo Dampare to reconsider the restriction on prophecies.

Gaisie argues that Kumah’s death should prompt law enforcement to acknowledge the significance of spiritual guidance in preventing potential harm.

During an interview on Okay FM on March 8, 2024, Gaisie disclosed that he had foreseen a looming threat involving the late minister but was constrained by the ban on prophecy from explicitly communicating it.

“Over the years, if I see something like that, I will just say it when I am preaching, but we have been advised about death prophecies, that we should try to reach out to the person.

“So, I asked one of my junior pastors, Pastor Godsway, to go to his house. He went there about three times, but unfortunately, on all those occasions, he didn’t meet him,” he explained.

He continued: “This must be a wake-up call to the IGP to allow the prophets to prophesy; this should be a wake-up call to the nation that spirituality works, life is spiritual, and God won’t do anything without revealing it to His servants.

“So, if you are a president, MP, or whoever it is, you are under the power of God, and God has selected some people as his men and women, so don’t joke with prophecy, don’t joke with dreams,” he warned.

John Kumah passed away at the Suhum Government Hospital on March 7.

We visited his house, called him but later he blocked my number -Nigel Gaisie on John Kumah’s death prophecy

Prophet Nigel Gaisie, the founder and leader of Prophetic Hill Chapel, revealed that he tried to warn the late Deputy Finance Minister, John Kumah, about a vision he had concerning him.

Despite his efforts, Gaisie said Kumah blocked all attempts to reach out to him.

According to Gaisie, he received a vision about a potential threat to John Kumah’s life around April 2023. Worried for the minister’s safety, Gaisie sent his junior pastor to Kumah’s residence on multiple occasions, but they were unable to make contact each time.

“Over the years, if I see something like that, I will just say it when I am preaching, but we have been advised about death prophecies, that we should try to reach out to the person.

“So, I asked one of my junior pastors, Pastor Godsway, to go to his house; he went there about three times but unfortunately, on all those occasions, he didn’t meet him.

“Later, I had the prompt again and instructed him to go once more. He returned, reporting that the security man had informed him he wasn’t around and he spoke to the wife or something, so I wrote it down,” he said.

Speaking in an interview on Okay FM on March 8, 2024, Gaisie revealed that he tried to personally reach out to Kumah by calling him directly. However, he claimed that Kumah blocked his number.

“So, I spoke about it during the 31st night; I saw it but because of Dampare’s communique that said we should avoid death prophecies, I had to speak in innuendos and figurative expressions.

“And I used to have a relationship with him. In 2014/2015, he used to come to my church so I had his personal number, but just after 2017, when I saw a different revelation about his government, that God would bring John Mahama, he severed relations with me.

“When I sent my junior pastor and I didn’t hear from him, I tried to call, so when I called, there was a busy number and the next one was blocked, so I said okay at the end of the day. We reached out but they disrespected us,” he added.

John Kumah passed away at the Suhum Government Hospital after a short illness.

John Kumah’s wife takes legal action against Captain Smart for claiming her husband was poisoned.

Apostle Lilian Kumah, the widow of the late Member of Parliament for Ejisu constituency, John Ampontuah Kumah, has reportedly filed a police complaint against Captain Smart, the host of the Onua TV morning show.

This action follows the untimely passing of the MP while en route from Kumasi to Accra for medical treatment in Germany for an undisclosed ailment.

Shortly after his demise, videos from a recent episode of Captain Smart’s show resurfaced on social media.

He specifically mentioned that the MP and NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, had suffered from food poisoning a few weeks prior.

According to reports from Asaaseradio.com, the late MP’s wife believes these claims by the journalist are baseless and are tarnishing the reputation of her husband and his family.

NPP Northern Regional Financial Secretary fingered in Wontumi-John Kumah alleged poisoning saga

The morning show host of Wontumi Tv and Radio, Oheneba Nana Asiedu, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Northern Regional Financial Secretary of being behind the alleged poisoning attack against the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi and the late Deputy Finance Minister Dr John Kumah.

According to Oheneba Nana Asiedu, after Chairman Wontumi started receiving treatment after throwing up following the Guinea fowl meat he ate with Dr John Kumah, he received an unexpected guest.

In his narration of how the unfortunate incident happened, Mr Asiedu noted that not many knew of the itinerary after a few individuals were brought up to speed on the wellbeing of Chairman Wontumi on October 23, 2023 while at Tamale.

However, a party executive, despite being likely aware that the Vice President’s campaign team had move from Tamale, visited Chairman Wontumi who had just taken ill, together with John Kumah.

The man in a blue suit, he said moved straight to Chairman Wontumi’s room and asked of his wellbeing.

“Around 10am when everyone knows that campaign team moves around 6am, the Veep team has moved so the assumption is that if everyone has left, then Chairman has also left, then a gentleman came there. Straight to Chairman Wontumi’s room. He knocked on the door, he was in a blue suit, I am told he is the Financial Secretary of the party in the region. We didn’t want to open. John Kumah opened the door for him and asked him why, he said he is coming to greet chairman. We told him Chairman had slept.”

“As to how the gentleman knew that the team had moved but Chairman Wontumi was not part, I don’t know. And how he got to know Chairman Wontumi’s room number I don’t know,” he said.

After John Kumah told him Chairman Wontumi was asleep, he left and did not return.

Oheneba Nana Asiedu made this revelation on Wontumi radio following the death of John Kumah on Thursday, March 7, which has been linked to the alleged poisoning case in October last year.

Poisoning galore in NPP? Captain Smart reveals list of MPs who have allegedly been targets

Onua TV morning show host, Captain Smart has exposed certain evil acts being demonstrated by certain individuals within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking to the media, the host alleged that the former leader of the Majority Caucus, Osei-Kyei-Mensah in parliament has escaped the evil plans of these maleficent actors within the party.

According to him, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has for three times eluded the clutches of death despite being poisoned.

He alleged that having observed the schemes and tactics of the sinister figures, Osei Kyei-Mensah- Bonsu carries his water with him wherever he finds himself.

Captain Smart further noted that, after their unsuccessful attempt to eliminate Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu through poisoning, the malevolent individuals redirected their focus towards the Member of Parliament (MP), Asante-Akim North Constituency, Hon. Andy Appiah Kubi and successfully poisoned him.

Unfortunately the only individual, according to him, who has become a victim of their schemes is the former deputy finance minister, John Kumah.

Captain Smart claimed that John Kumah was intentionally poisoned because of his political ambitions, stating that he represented a threat to certain party leaders.

Captain Smart issued a cautionary warning to other individuals, urging them to exercise vigilance as they may also be targeted.

“He has been poisoned 3 times, ask Osei-Kyei-Mensah if I am telling lies. His wife is a nurse. So now when he is travelling his wife carries along and accompanies him. Osei Kyei Mensah has been poisoned 3 times, some people have marked him for death. I know what I am saying. When you meet Kyei Mensah Bonsu tell him I am the one who is making the claim.

“When they failed to kill Osei Kyei Mensah through poison, those evil individuals channelled their attention to Hon. Andy Appiah Kubi and poisoned him. After they had succeeded they went after John Kumah,” he added.

The late minister passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024.

According to reports, he collapsed in his office and was swiftly transported to a hospital for medical treatment.
Subsequently, due to a decline in his condition, he was flown out of the country.

Side chicks and dudes threatening family values – Gabby Otchere-Darko

A prominent figure within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Otchere-Darko, has voiced his concerns regarding the recent approval of Ghana’s anti-LGBTQ+ bill by the parliament.

He acknowledged that while the bill reflects the democratic will of the people as expressed by parliamentarians, it also creates an environment where potential political repercussions lead to a culture of silence among MPs who might have opposed the bill.

“Values should not be premised on hypocrisy. That is, I suspect, ungodly. The biggest threat to family values in our society is caused by side chicks and side dudes. They break homes and family values cannot survive in broken homes. But, our MPs don’t care. Do they?” he questioned.

In a series of tweets, Otchere-Darko emphasized that the passage of the bill comes with consequences and encouraged fair reporting on the pros and cons of imposing stricter penalties against the LGBTQ+ community.

He urged those who believe the law is constitutionally flawed to challenge it through appropriate legal channels, highlighting the strength of Ghana’s democratic institutions.

While acknowledging Ghana’s cultural norms, Otchere-Darko suggested that there is room to balance traditional family values with tolerance and diversity.

He questioned the prioritization of certain values over others, emphasizing the need for consistency in upholding family values.

The bill aims to safeguard what it defines as proper human sexual rights and Ghanaian Family Values by prohibiting and criminalizing various LGBTQ+ activities. It outlines penalties for individuals engaged in such acts, including imprisonment, and awaits presidential assent to become law.

Otchere-Darko’s commentary adds to the ongoing discourse surrounding the bill, emphasizing the importance of respecting democratic processes while encouraging dialogue on the implications of legislative decisions.

“Ghana’s parliament, in which is vested the sovereign will of the people, has democratically passed a harsher anti-LGBTQ Bill. Yes, democratically!

“In fact, the threat of being unseated for standing for the rights of gays, etc, certainly created its own culture of silence in the House! But, it is the decision of parliament and one which enjoys huge popular support in the country.

“The world must understand that. But Ghanaians must also understand that it comes with consequences. Choices have consequences. We expect the media and the politicians to be fair to the people by letting them know the pros and cons of this decision to impose stiffer penalties against gays, etc,” he said.

“We also expect those who believe the bill is constitutionally wrong to do what is right and go to court. That is democracy! Our institutions of democracy are still strong and alive. Let’s have faith in our democracy.

“Let’s respect the choices we make and their consequences and believe in the process. Ghana remains a sovereign state, with cultural norms that cannot be wished away but must be respected,” he added.

NPP enhanced development in Zongo communities – Bawumia

Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, highlighted the significant achievements of the NPP government in Zongo communities over the past seven years.

During a meeting with the National Muslim Council, Dr. Bawumia presented a comprehensive list of over 200 accomplishments. The National Muslim Council, comprising various stakeholders from Zongo and Muslim communities, including the Muslim Caucus of Parliament, had visited Dr. Bawumia and his campaign team to submit their proposals for inclusion in the 2024 Manifesto.

The proposals addressed key developmental areas such as education, health, and social issues within Zongo communities.

Upon receiving a copy of the proposal from the National Muslim Council, Dr. Bawumia expressed appreciation for their input. He emphasized the NPP’s unwavering dedication to the advancement of Zongo communities, citing the establishment of a statutory development vehicle for Zongo Development as evidence of this commitment over the past seven years.

“Until recently, politics in the Zongos was reduced to the provision of rice and sugar and that was it. We were not discussing policies in Zongo politics and since I got into politics, I thought this should change, that is why we have focused more on policies and structures for the Zongo communities,” Dr. Bawumia said.

“We spoke about sustainable development for Zongo communities with policy structures, and we established the Zongo Development when we got the opportunity. They have done so much in the area of educational infrastructure and scholarship, health, entrepreneurial support, astro turfs, and many others as you have seen,” he added.

“Our idea coming into office was that the most important area to focus on to develop people is education. So we really focused a lot on education across the country, and in Zongo communities, through the Zongo Development Fund, we have built quite a number of classroom blocks, rehabilitated some, and offered tertiary education grants and scholarships to many brilliant but needy students.”

“In addition to this, our Free SHS policy has offered opportunities to many, including females, to have access to secondary education.”

Public Sector Reforms CEO alleges NDC enriched themselves during dumsor era

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Public Sector Reforms, Thomas Kusi Boafo, has asserted that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) would be deceiving themselves if they believe they are wealthier than the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

During an interview on Wontumi TV on February 28, 2024, Kusi Boafo alleged that members of the NDC amassed significant wealth during the period of erratic power supply, known as dumsor. He claimed that while the country grappled with power outages, the NDC government entered lucrative power purchase agreements, enriching themselves in the process.

“Some people used dumsor to amass huge sums in Ghana, and they became fabulously rich. That is why I have been saying that the opposition NDC is richer than the NPP. But when I say this, people don’t agree,” he remarked in Twi.

Kusi Boafo elaborated on the alleged power purchase agreements, stating that they amounted to over $9 billion. He accused the NDC of inflating costs and engaging in deals that led to wastage of electricity. According to him, these agreements were renegotiated by the current NPP government, resulting in substantial savings for Ghana.

Highlighting President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s revelations during the 2024 State of the Nation’s Address (SONA), Kusi Boafo emphasized the government’s efforts to rectify the perceived financial mismanagement of the NDC era.

He contended that the funds lost due to the power purchase agreements could have been utilized to improve infrastructure, particularly road networks. Kusi Boafo estimated that the amount lost could have facilitated the construction of approximately “1000 kilometres of asphalted road” across the country.

Analyst accuses Akufo-Addo of inconsistency and deception in SONA

A political analyst, Dr Emmanuel Anti, has launched scathing criticism against President Akufo-Addo, branding him as a dishonest politician who has failed to be candid with Ghanaians. Anti accused the President of inconsistency and deception, particularly regarding his administration’s handling of infrastructure projects and economic management.

During a recent interview, Anti highlighted the contradictions between the President’s past statements and his current stance. He pointed out that during the 2016 campaign, Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) disparaged the achievements of former President John Dramani Mahama in the road sector, claiming that “we don’t eat roads” and thus, emphasizing road infrastructure was unnecessary.

However, Anti criticized the President and his party for later boasting about their achievements in the road sector, alleging that this showed insincerity and deception. He questioned the President’s excitement about road projects in his recent State of the Nation Address (SONA), given his previous stance on the matter.

Furthermore, Anti criticized the President for not utilizing the economic expertise of Vice President Bawumia to address the country’s economic challenges effectively. He cited instances where Vice President Bawumia distanced himself from economic woes, claiming his role was merely advisory. Anti argued that President Akufo-Addo’s acceptance of blame for economic issues indicated his failure in leadership.

Anti concluded by asserting that if President Akufo-Addo did not voluntarily resign, he should be removed from office due to his perceived failure in discharging his duties effectively.

Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Member of Parliament for Suame, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has emphasized that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is not in a hurry to name its running mate for the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

In an interview with JoyNews on February 28, 2024, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu reiterated that the NPP is not in competition with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding the selection of a running mate. He stressed that the responsibility to choose a running mate lies solely with the NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“We are not in competition with the NDC to select a running mate. The burden lies on the presidential candidate,” stated Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.

The Suame MP highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s qualities, describing him as intelligent, analytical, and broad-minded. He emphasized that Dr. Bawumia has been consultative in his decision-making process and should not be pressured or influenced by external forces.

Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu referenced past instances where the NPP selected running mates for presidential candidates, noting that the party has never imposed a running mate on any of its candidates.

“I kept saying that nobody should attempt to foist any man on him. He is intelligent, he’s analytical, and he’s broad-minded. He has been very consultative in whatever he has been doing,” Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu stated.

He emphasized the importance of allowing Dr. Bawumia to make his own decision regarding the choice of a running mate, adding that the final decision rests with him. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu urged patience and trust in Dr. Bawumia’s judgment.

Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress is expected to announce the running mate for its flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, on February 29, 2024.

Akufo-Addo’s silence on dumsor is worrying – Former NPP communication director

A former National Communication Director of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has called on President Akufo-Addo to be transparent and acknowledge the return of intermittent power supply (dumsor) to Ghana.

Buaben Asamoa, also a spokesperson for the leader of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, expressed in an interview on GHOne TV on February 28, 2024, that President Akufo-Addo’s assertion that there is no dumsor is inaccurate.

“The president must admit that there’s some dumsor going on; because there is. Everybody is experiencing graduated twelve-hour power cuts, including me. Last night I didn’t have power. It’s a recurring process.

“He should come out and tell us that there is a difficulty with electricity because we are experiencing dumsor in a very refined manner,” he said.

He urged the president to admit the existence of dumsor, stating that everyone in Ghana, including himself, is experiencing some form of power cuts, often lasting twelve hours.

Buaben Asamoa emphasized the need for transparency regarding the electricity challenges, describing the current situation as a refined form of dumsor.

“Mr Speaker, between 2012 and early 2017, there was nothing more demoralising than the phenomenon we called DUMSOR. It was symptomatic of a dysfunctional system, and it caused widespread depression among businesses and households.

“After that experience, my government was determined that dumsor would not be inflicted upon Ghana and Ghanaians under an NPP government, and I am glad to be able to say, so far, so good, we have managed to keep the lights on these last seven (7) years, even in the midst of a financial crisis,” he said.

In his State of the Nation Address (SONA) in parliament on February 27, 2024, President Akufo-Addo claimed that his government had successfully averted dumsor, highlighting the contrast with the John Dramani Mahama administration’s experience.
