Akufo-Addo is the only problem of the country – Okatakyie Afrifa

Ghanaian media personality and radio presenter Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah has criticized President Akufo-Addo for what he describes as poor leadership since taking office.

During his Angel TV morning show on May 27, 2024, Mensah expressed his views, stating that Ghana is deteriorating under Akufo-Addo’s leadership.

He attributed the country’s struggles to the President’s ineffective governance, echoing sentiments from within the New Patriotic Party.

On his part, Ghana’s biggest woe as a country is the president Akufo-Addo.

“Party isn’t for Akufo-Addo and he is the one going to spoil your chances of leading the country. He is the only problem of the country, and the only problem of the party till today”

He further went on to slam NPP stalwart and lawyer Gabby Otchere-Darko who he accused of being overly controlling. His actions have silenced and rendered powerless some leading members of the party including the general secretary and the part’s chairman.

“Since the 32 years of the NPP formation, for 16years Akufo-Addo has been leading the party and controlling the party

It’s time for him to let go and hand over things to Bawumia to take care of but yet still but he has them by their neck, from Chairman, to general Secretary .

Thanks to Gaby Otchere-Darko, general secretary to National Chairman they have all been turned into women. Our forefathers toiled with their blood to hold this party. Akufo-Addo is messing up the party” he fumed.

FULL TEXT: NPP reacts to NDC’s claims against AG in Ato Forson trial

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stated that the alleged audio tape involving Attorney General Godfred Dame and Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the ambulance case, released by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been tampered with.

At a press conference on Tuesday, May 28, NPP National Organizer Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B) described the tape as distorted and manipulated, claiming it was “cut and pieced together” by the NDC to create a misleading impression.

“The NDC today addressed a press conference and released what is believed to be their evidence. Clearly, you could see that it was doctored. It’s a manipulated tape. It is a cut and pieced-together tape, thrown out to create a certain impression. And we are here to respond to these evil-minded persons,” he added.

Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the ambulance procurement case, revealed under cross-examination that Attorney General Godfred Dame had been calling him at odd hours to obtain testimony against the Minority Leader, Dr. Ato Forson.

Dr. Ato Forson, a former Deputy Finance Minister, is facing trial for his alleged involvement in the procurement of faulty ambulances for Ghana. This case has sparked public conversations, with some individuals calling for the Attorney General’s resignation.

The Attorney General insisted that Jakpa had sent letters requesting a plea bargain, which had not been accepted. However, the NDC countered these claims by playing a tape during a press conference on Tuesday, May 28. The NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, stated that Jakpa never requested a plea bargain.

NPP’s Nana B names Supreme Court Justice in Dame-Jakpa case

National Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, also known as Nana B, has revealed the identity of the Supreme Court Justice referenced in a meeting where Attorney-General Godfred Dame discussed a high-profile financial crime trial with an accused person.

In a social media post on May 27, 2024, Nana B identified the Supreme Court Justice as Justice Emmanuel Yonny Kulendi.

A spokesperson for the Attorney-General confirmed on May 26, 2024, that a meeting took place between Godfred Dame and Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the ongoing ambulance purchase trial involving Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson.

Wilberforce Mensah, speaking on behalf of the A-G, stated that the meeting occurred at the home of an unnamed Supreme Court Justice, who is Jakpa’s cousin.

He clarified that Dame was unaware of Jakpa’s attendance at the April 2024 meeting and, although they discussed Jakpa’s plea-bargaining proposal, the A-G did not seek Jakpa’s assistance to implicate Ato Forson.

Nana B’s post also claimed that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) alleges to have evidence implicating the A-G in unethical and criminal conduct, which reportedly consists of an audio recording from the mentioned meeting.

“We are reliably informed that NDC is trying every means to maliciously ‘doctor’ the said tape to exclude portions of the conversation and particularly the voice of the Supreme Court Justice, whose invitation the AG honoured out of courtesy.

“The full-length recording will reveal the AG never requested Richard Jakpa to skew his testimony in any manner as bandied around by the NDC,” he added.

Meanwhile, the NDC has dedicated its Moment of Truth press conference scheduled for today (May 28, 2024) to provide its incontrovertible evidence of the A-G’s misdeeds.

Details of the event are below:

TOPIC: Unprofessional and criminal conduct of the Attorney-General in the Ato Forson trial.

SPEAKER: Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, National Chairman, NDC.

    DATE/TIME: 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.

    VENUE: NDC Headquarters, Adabraka.

Below is Nana B’s full post

On the dishonorable and discredited Ato Forson’s trial:

The NDC has since the commencement of the prosecution of Ato Forson employed every rule in the book to frustrate, manipulate and curtail bringing Ato Forson to justice for the huge financial loss occasioned by Ghana at the expense of much-needed emergency health services for the Ghanaian populace.

The latest in this charade is the claim of possessing some damning evidence which has been found out to be a recording by Richard Jakpa at a meeting the AG was invited to by a Supreme Court judge, Justice Emmanuel Yonny Kulendi without being informed Richard Jakpa will be present.

We are reliably informed that NDC is trying every means to maliciously ‘doctor’ the said tape to exclude portions of the conversation and particularly the voice of the Supreme Court Justice, whose invitation the AG honoured out of courtesy.

The full-length recording will reveal the AG never requested Richard Jakpa to skew his testimony in any manner as bandied around by the NDC.

Justice they say must be done even if the heavens fall and no amount of scheming by the NDC and its affiliates will exonerate any person who participated in misrepresenting ordinary vans as ambulances to the Ghanaian populace.

Bono Region NPP communicators strike over ‘illegal’ auction of trucks, other equipment

Communication officers of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bono Region have announced an indefinite strike, demanding transparency regarding the auction of tipper trucks, front loaders, and graders owned by the Bono Regional Coordinating Council.

During a press conference in Sunyani, the communication officers expressed their frustration over the lack of information about the auction process for these pieces of equipment.

Abubakari Yakubu, spokesperson for the communicators in the region, emphasized that the equipment could have been utilized to improve the region’s roads.

Consequently, they have decided to suspend their media engagements until they receive a satisfactory explanation about who authorized the sale and the reasons behind it.

“Somewhere last week, before the region woke up, these important trucks have been auctioned out to God knows who and why.

It is therefore on the back of the development that we as communication officers in the Bono region, all of us, 12 of us, have decided to pursue this matter and demand answers from the Bono Regional Coordinating Council.

“Who authorised the auction of the trucks and why? We demand the answer and also, why did authorities park the trucks when the assemblies needed them for reshaping and other activities?

“These are our questions and we shall wait for the answers before we go back to the studios. As communication officers, we will not sit on radio to defend this party until this matter has been resolved.

No communicator from the NPP will defend the party in the region until the questions are adequately answered.”

According to reports, attempts to obtain details from the Bono Regional Coordinating Council regarding the reasons behind the auction of the equipment have been unsuccessful.

NPP signboards, others destroyed in Awutu Senya West

Tensions are escalating in Awutu Senya West due to the destruction of New Patriotic Party (NPP) signboards and posters.

The region has been plagued by incidents of vandalism targeting NPP campaign materials, raising concerns about increasing political tensions ahead of the upcoming elections.

Eugene Arhin, the NPP parliamentary candidate, has called for calm and urged all parties to exercise restraint. He emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and civility in the community, despite political differences.

Mr Arhin appealed to residents to avoid engaging in acts of violence or destruction, stressing that such actions only undermine the democratic process and sow discord within the community.

In his statement, Mr Arhin reiterated the need for dialogue and peaceful coexistence, urging residents to channel their grievances through lawful means rather than resorting to violence or vandalism.

“I urge all NPP members and supporters to refrain from retaliating. We must uphold the law and maintain peace in our constituency. I have full confidence that the law enforcement agencies will take appropriate action and address this issue,” Mr. Arhin stated.

NDC accuses NPP of busing foreigners to register in Hohoe

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Hohoe constituency of the Volta Region has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of transporting individuals from Togo to take part in the ongoing limited voter registration.

The NDC claims that the NPP has been using buses and pickups to bring large numbers of people to register in preparation for the upcoming December 7 general elections.

In an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, NDC’s Hohoe constituency secretary, Prosper Kumi said, “There were buses and pickups that were bringing people from a community in Togo to Wli Todzi on the Ghana side to be registered. Per estimates, we had 155 people and 199 registered on the first and second days respectively.”

“Some are being bused to the Hohoe registration centre. These people were not able to respond to basic questions like their date of birth and their house numbers and they were speaking French and cannot speak the local language,” the constituency secretary further alleged.

Harry Abedenego, the first vice chairman for the NPP in Hohoe, has denied the allegations, describing them as unfounded and strange.

He stated that the NDC is merely raising these concerns out of fear that the people of Wli Todzi will vote to re-elect John Peter Amewu and support the NPP in the upcoming elections.

“It is very strange that the NDC will today accuse the NPP of bringing foreigners to register. The community they are talking about is a Ghanaian town so what is the crime about them registering for the voter ID card?

“It is not true that we are bringing in Togolese to register. Peter Amewu’s mother is from Wli Todzi and you can remember that he [Peter Amewu] was often accused of being a Togolese and so the people are afraid that the people of the town will vote for Amewu and the NPP and that is what they are afraid of.”

Register as many as are qualified under the law – NPP tells EC

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that an upcoming leadership meeting will determine whether the party will push for an extension of the limited voter registration period.

This decision will hinge on a review of the registrations conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC) up to now.

Various political parties and civil society organizations have called for extending the limited voter registration exercise, scheduled to end on Monday, May 27, 2024.

However, the EC has stated that extending the registration period is not feasible.

Evans Nimako, the Director of Elections and Research for the NPP, expressed the party’s contentment with the registration process in an interview with Citi TV.

He emphasized that the party will thoroughly evaluate the current registration figures before making any further decisions.

“Our position is that as many as people are qualified under the law, they should be given the opportunity to register.”

“So if we are saying that they [EC] are expecting 632,000 and at the end of the day, 700,000 people come out, does it mean that the excess of 77,000, they are not going to register them?”

NPP parliamentary candidates given 30 slots each to recruit party supporters into security agencies – Ato Forson alleges

The Minority has voiced alarm over what they view as covert and unlawful recruitment into the security services by the government.

During a press briefing, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader, claimed that all NPP Parliamentary candidates have been granted 30 slots each to nominate NPP loyalists and supporters for positions in the security services, such as the Police and Army.

Dr. Forson called on President Akufo-Addo and the government to cease what he labeled as undemocratic practices. He stressed the importance of transparency and equity in the recruitment processes of the security sector.

“Notwithstanding the fact that the Minority raised serious concerns about the criteria adopted by the NPP government to recruit personnel into the security services, it has persisted in taking additional steps in the last few days that we have seen.”

“The NDC Minority can authoritatively state that not long ago, the NPP government again illegally and fraudulently has given out 30 slots to all NPP parliamentary candidates across the country for recruitment into the security services,” he alleged.

The Minority Leader affirmed that the Minority in Parliament would stay vigilant and resist any efforts to manipulate the upcoming elections.

He reiterated the dedication of National Democratic Congress MPs to safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process and thwarting any actions that might jeopardize democracy.

They have a lot of stolen money and they try use it stay in power – Kofi Amoabeng on NPP gov’t

Former CEO of UT Bank, Prince Kofi Amoabeng, has voiced apprehension over the upcoming 2024 elections, citing fears that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) might use ill-gotten funds to maintain power.

Mr Amoabeng, in an interview, expressed his concerns about the NPP’s financial advantage, despite what he perceives as a track record of disappointment and mismanagement.

He highlighted the potential for electoral unrest if the NPP attempts to manipulate the outcome.

When asked what his anticipation of the 2024 elections following recent challenges with the voter registration exercise, he said, “I am scared a bit but I don’t waste my time fearing what is going to happen in the future. I live in the present. But I am scared in the sense that, I think even though we know NPP has messed up badly and disappointed Ghanaians, they have a lot of money – stolen or whatever, they have a lot of it, therefore they will use it to try to stay in power. That is where my fear comes in because I think if it is an obvious win for the NDC and the NPP are using their money to influence and rig things, things might explode. We are talking about guns and machetes people are totting, so we have to pray for whatever reason the election goes smoothly.”

Despite his concerns, Amoabeng emphasized the need for a peaceful election process and urged Ghanaians to remain vigilant against any attempts to undermine the democratic process.

We will hand over peacefully should NDC beat us in 2024 elections – Henry Quartey

Minister for Interior-designate, Henry Quartey, has reaffirmed the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) commitment to democratic principles in the event of electoral defeat amidst growing concerns from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding the peaceful transition of power.

The opposition’s worries were sparked by recent comments made by President Akufo-Addo, which raised doubts about the incumbent government’s readiness to peacefully transfer power if they do not succeed in the December 7 elections.

National Chairman of the NDC, Asiedu Nketia, expressed these concerns during a press conference, urging the NPP to prioritize a smooth transition for the nation’s stability.

In response, former Greater Accra Regional Minister Henry Quartey addressed the media in Accra on Wednesday, May 15, reassuring the public of the NPP’s unwavering dedication to ensuring a peaceful electoral process.

He stressed that regardless of the election outcome, the NPP is committed to upholding democratic norms and facilitating a peaceful transfer of power, in accordance with Ghana’s democratic principles.

“As a politician, as a political party, it is our hope, it is our wish, it is our belief that by the grace of God, the good people of this country, the good work that we have done in infrastructure and in other interventions, they will give us another mandate,” he said.

He also noted that the NPP is working assiduously to secure another term.

“Perish the thought, and I say again, perish the thought, If they decide to give their mandate to somebody, we will handover peacefully and walk away, go to the drawing board and come back Insha Allah. But I know that the grace of God abounds and so we shall break the 8,” he said.

NIB now a centre for NPP foot soldiers – Minority alleges

Minority in Parliament has raised concerns about the government’s management of the National Investment Bank (NIB), alleging that it has turned into a platform primarily for members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Their apprehension arises from the recent appointment of Tweneboa Kodua Fokuo, the current NPP parliamentary candidate for Manso Nkwanta, as the Managing Director of the NIB.

Adding to their worries, the caucus pointed out that the situation is exacerbated by the appointment of a politically-active individual, who had previously contested for the Fomena Member of Parliament seat, as the bank’s deputy Managing Director.

Addressing journalists in Accra on Wednesday, the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, expressed reservations about such developments, emphasizing the potential implications for the bank’s operations and impartiality.

“President Akufo-Addo is destroying the governance of our country. In the sense that even banks, a typical example like the NIB has been turned into a hub where they harbour foot soldiers of the party.

You have a bank that is struggling, a bank that is almost collapsed, a bank that we know that the governance structure regime is extremely poor but we all want to nurture the bank because obviously it is a state bank.

“This president in spite of all the problems of the NIB has decided to appoint a PC, someone who is going to contest the election in six months, as the MD of the state bank, NIB.

And I am surprised at the governor – Governor Addison the printer, also had the temerity to approve such a person to become the MD of the NIB.

“The deputy of the same politically exposed person, who is now the MD of the NIB, is also another politically exposed person,” he stated.

Tweneboah Kodua Fokuo has assured that he is capable of effectively managing both roles without conflict.

As the newly appointed Managing Director of the National Investment Bank (NIB) and the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Manso Nkwanta in the Ashanti Region, Fokuo emphasized his ability to balance responsibilities.

Having previously served as the Deputy MD of the bank, he expressed confidence in his time management skills and affirmed that neither role would hinder his performance in the other.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) of the New Juabeng South Assembly, Isaac Apaw-Gyasi, has disclosed that former Trades Minister John Alan Kyeremanten is set to rejoin the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Apaw-Gyasi made this revelation during an interview on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Tuesday. He stated that the decision for Kyeremanten to rejoin the NPP follows a peaceful resolution of the issues that led him to break away from the ruling party to form his own movement.

“You don’t have to worry about our brothers from Movement for Change because they are joining the NPP soon…,” he said.

“We have had conversations and resolved all issues. You can take it from me they are coming back,” he added.

John Alan Kyeremanten broke away from the NPP in September 2023 to form his own political movement, the Movement for Change.

This movement, which Kyeremanten describes as youth-led, aims to address the country’s challenges. The Movement for Change has formed alliances with other political movements and has declared its intention to contest the 2024 elections.

Apaw-Gyasi, however, claimed that the NPP has taken several steps to prevent Kyeremanten from realizing his vision of having his image on the final ballot sheet for the 2024 elections.

He stated that efforts are being made to convince Kyeremanten to return to the NPP.

However, he did not reveal the composers, choosing to keep this information secret until the song’s official unveiling.

Speaking on Yen Nsempa, Mr Awuku emphasized that the new composition aims to convey the essence of the NPP’s message while resonating with contemporary audiences.

He hinted at the involvement of respected figures, both old and young, in the music industry in crafting the new song.

Mr Awuku praised the party’s previous campaign song, “Nana Winner,” composed by Daddy Lumba in 2013, describing it as a “bruutaa,” a term implying a masterpiece. He noted its widespread appeal, being played in both churches and nightclubs.

He highlighted the song’s ability to transcend traditional boundaries, reflecting its impact on the public. He hinted at an upcoming release from the NPP camp, promising a song of similar quality and appeal.

The use of music in political campaigns has been a longstanding tradition in Ghana, with songs often serving as powerful tools for mobilization and engagement.

NDC, NPP agents defy EC’s orders, record serial numbers of BVRs

Despite the Electoral Commission’s denial of their request, some representatives from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) claim they are still documenting the serial numbers of Biometric Verification Registration (BVR) kits used in the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.

The EC rejected the request, citing concerns that it could jeopardise the ongoing process.

However, with a surge in first-time voters observed, agents from both parties managed to obtain the serial numbers of the Biometric Verification kits.

Musah Ahmed, the NDC Youth Organiser for Ayawaso North, stated, “From day one, we have been recording the BVR system’s serial numbers, and we are closely monitoring. If they are changed again, we will capture them and report to our superiors.”

When asked if the serial numbers were captured with the permission of the electoral officials, Ahmed Musah said, ‘we sought their permission, and they allowed us to take it.”

The NPP’s Augustin Ofori Gyebi said, “When we need it, we can get it.”. He added, “We have it; they showed us everything.”.
Agents who obtained the serial numbers did so without the approval of the District Director of Elections for Ayawaso North, Apostle Tizor Watson.

He said, “I’ve not heard of anybody asking for a serial number from our outfit.”

His position was also corroborated by Lydia Anom, the Municipal Election Director, who also said her office had not given permission for the recording of serial numbers of BVR kits.

It would be recalled that speaking at a press conference on May 9, the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, urged the party’s agent to record the serial numbers despite the EC’s stance against it.

The limited registration exercise entered its fourth day with the Commission shuffling between offline and online registrations as a result of intermittent network challenges.

Meanwhile, as participation increases, top political figures, including government officials, have been visiting the various centres.

  • PDS case: Mahama fumes over closed $190m compact; blames Akufo-Addo,Bawumia

PDS case: Mahama fumes over closed $190m compact; blames Akufo-Addo,Bawumia

Former President John Dramani Mahama has expressed his disappointment at the closure of Ghana’s Millennium Challenge Compact by the United States, lamenting the efforts made during his administration to secure the Compact.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s flagbearer described the closure as disheartening, emphasising the significant groundwork laid for its realisation.

The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) confirmed the closure, stating that there are currently no plans to resume collaboration with Ghana. The Compact has been entirely shut down.

Ghana was set to receive critical funding of approximately $190 million in March 2019 to support infrastructure investments and the financial recovery of the energy sector.

However, the disbursement of funds was halted due to complications arising from a failed concession agreement involving Ghana’s Power Distribution Services (PDS).

The agreement is intended for PDS to manage the assets and staff of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). The U.S. government suspended the transfer of funds, citing concerns about private sector involvement in the MCC’s Ghana Power Compact.

In response, Mahama criticised the Akufo-Addo government on Facebook, attributing the collapse of the deal to alleged corruption within the current administration.

He pledged that a future administration under his leadership would prioritise accountability and conduct a thorough investigation into the PDS scandal to hold those responsible accountable.

Additionally, Mahama vowed to implement measures to enhance private sector efficiency in the electricity distribution system, focusing on areas such as metering, revenue management, and fault response.

“It’s disheartening to learn that the $190 million we negotiated for private sector participation in electricity distribution under the US Millennium Compact has been lost due to Nana Addo and Bawumia’s corrupt, ‘yenkyendi’, and cronyistic governance practices.”

“This is unacceptable, and we deserve better as a people.”

“As I gear up to assume the presidency in January 2025, thanks to your votes and endorsement in this year’s election, I want to assure you that I will work diligently to enhance private sector efficiency in the electricity distribution system, including metering, revenue management, and fault response,” he posted.

  • Election 2024: For the sake of peace, your interest just hand over power to us – Asiedu Nketia to NPP

National Democratic Congress (NDC) has sent a clear message to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), urging them to facilitate a seamless and peaceful transfer of power in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the National Chairman of the NDC, expressed these concerns during a press briefing on Thursday, May 9.

He accused the Electoral Commission of potentially assisting President Akufo-Addo in his alleged reluctance to hand over power to their candidate, John Dramani Mahama.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we do not expect the Electoral Commission of Ghana to act as the conduit through which Akufo-Addo will implement his avowed determination not to hand over power to the visionary, experienced and trustworthy John Dramani Mahama.

NPP must choose a peaceful transfer of power from NPP to NDC in their own interest. The 2024 elections will not be business as usual,” he asserted.

Nketiah emphasized that NDC registration agents across the nation would resist any efforts by the EC to diminish transparency during the voter registration process.

He mentioned that NDC registration agents nationwide would oppose any efforts by the EC to decrease transparency during the voter registration process.

“We wish to serve notice and notice is hereby served that NDC registration agents across the country will resist the EC’s clandestine attempts aimed at diminishing transparency in the voter registration exercise.
“Let me emphasise that our agents must activate the party’s super hi-tech application systems to transmit all serial numbers of BVR kits in their districts and electoral areas to the National Elections and IT Directorate of the party, with or without the approval of the EC.”

Nketiah invited Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, and Faith-based Organisations to join their call for increased transparency and fairness, which he described as a prerequisite for peaceful elections.

“Finally, let me use this opportunity to repeat our call to all CSOs, Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, and Faith-based Organisations to join us to demand more transparency and fairness, which is a necessary pre-condition for peaceful elections,” he called.

In the meantime, the EC has rejected the NDC’s appeal for the serial numbers of the Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) devices employed in the current Limited Voter Registration.

Ignore Bawumia’s 100% mineral ownership promise, they are just populist propaganda – Alan

Leader of the Movement for Change (M4C), Alan Kyerematen, dismissed promises made by New Patriotic Party flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia regarding Ghana’s mineral resources as mere political rhetoric.

Dr. Bawumia, on a campaign tour of the Bono region, vowed to ensure 100% Ghanaian ownership of mineral resources if elected into power.

He voiced concerns about the current framework of Ghana’s mining sector, suggesting it creates the impression that Ghanaians do not fully own the country’s minerals.

However, Kyerematen, an Independent Presidential Candidate, rebuffed the vice president’s promise in an interview with the Chronicle Newspaper, labelling it as political propaganda.

He argued that, by law, minerals already belong to the citizens. Referring to Article 257 (6) of the 1992 Constitution, Kyerematen highlighted that all mineral resources in their natural state within Ghana and its territorial waters are vested in the President on behalf of the Ghanaian people.

He clarified that this encompasses both solid and liquid minerals, with specific laws governing access and management.

The former trade minister said: “So, Ghanaians already own 100% of their mineral resources by law.

The impression being created by the Vice President that he will make Ghanaians own 100% of their natural resources is misleading and amounts to populist propaganda,” he stated.

Bawumia promises to establish a Minerals Development Bank

Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer, has revealed his intentions to create a minerals development bank should he win the upcoming December elections.

This initiative aims to offer financial support to mining projects within Ghana.

During the 3rd Annual Transformational Dialogue on Small-Scale Mining at the University of Energy and Natural Resources in the Bono Region, Dr. Bawumia highlighted that this policy would prevent foreign mining companies from exporting all their earnings, thereby boosting the local economy.

“We also want to, as I said, in collaboration with the relevant state institutions like MIIF, PMMC, the Bank of Ghana, the private sector and others, we want to establish a minerals development bank to finance viable local mineral projects and to mitigate foreign financing of local mining projects, which leads to heavy smuggling of the produce afterwards.”

Your machinations against NPP will not work – Staunch party member tells Hopeson Adorye

A staunch member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hajjia Fati, has criticized a former member of the party, Hopeson Adorye, over his recent comments against the party.

Hopeson Adorye has made startling claims regarding the dubious tactics employed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) since he left the party to join former Minister for Trade, Alan Kyerematen

He recently made mention of steps the ruling party took to retain the Ejisu seat during the bye-elections.

Speaking on Captain Smart’s Onua morning show on May 8, 2024, the former National Security boss asserted that the NPP recruited party executives from Kumawu to oversee the elections at various polling stations.

He alleged that these individuals were trained by the Electoral Commission (EC) to serve as presiding officers.

Mr. Adorye, who recently left the NPP to join Alan Kyeremanten’s Movement for Change (M4C), stated that he received this information around 5pm on the day of the elections, which took place on April 13, 2024.

To support his claims, he mentioned specific names and referred to page numbers in the Kumawu constituency album where the names of these alleged NPP-affiliated EC officials were recorded.

Reading from a personal compilation titled “Polling station executives of Kumawu enlisted as EC officials for Ejisu,” he named three NPP constituency executives of Kumawu who had been enlisted as presiding officers.

But according to the female MP member, the actions taken by Hopeson Adorye will amount to nothing. Hajjia Fati also noted that it comes as no surprise if Hopeson decides to return to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) since he is returning to his roots.

Ghana loses half of its budget annually due to waste and unaccountability – Former NPP chairman

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairman in the New Juaben Constituency, Kwadwo Boateng-Agyemang, expressed dismay at the rampant wastage and lack of accountability in government spending.

During an appearance on Top FM’s ‘Final Point’ program, Boateng-Agyemang highlighted the exacerbating effect of over-politicization on these issues.

“We turn everything into politics, and we, the politicians, defend it. We will bring up Saglemi, and argue that Nana Addo did this and Mahama did that. I keep saying that in this country, about 50% of the budget we prepare in Ghana goes to waste, and nobody is held accountable for that.

“You can bring another politician on the show after me, and the one thing he will do is rant about what someone has done, meanwhile, he has taken some money somewhere. But because of hypocrisy, he will come and criticize just to score a point,” he stated

He criticized the hypocrisy among politicians, noting that while they may criticize others, they often engage in similar misconduct for personal gain.

Boateng-Agyemang stressed the importance of accountability and urged for discussions on national matters to be conducted without political biases, as such behavior hampers progress and national development.

Alan there’s Karma, oh! Consider your actions – Kate Gyamfua warns

National Women’s Organiser of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kate Gyamfua, has warned former Minister of Trade and Industry and founder of Movement for Change (M4C), Alan Kyerematen, of the imminent consequences of his actions towards the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), his former party.

Alan, according to the Women’s Organiser, greatly benefited from the party for having to have served cumulatively fifteen years as a minister under the former President John Kuffour for eight years and under the Akufo-Addo led government for seven years, respectively.

Hence, his rebellion and secession from the party are unjustified. She warned during an appearance on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo on May 4, 2024.

“Kharma is real, Oh, let’s be careful.”. I see individuals who have seceded from the party, such as those who claim to have formed the Butterfly Movement. It’s troubling.

Alan, you served as a minister for 8 years under Kuffour’s administration and another seven under Akufo-Addo’s, totaling 15 years.

Then, because you lost in NPP primaries where the youth didn’t vote for you,. I mean, not like Bawumia contested unopposed. Now you revolt against your government. It’s a stark display of ingratitude. Karma is real”.

According to Madam Gyamfua, Alan’s actions can only be attributed to his sense of entitlement, which stemmed from the overpampering the NPP gave him, which got into his head, making him assume he was the rightful person to take the position of flagbearer in the party.

“We pampered Alan like a new-born baby. This sense of entitlement, particularly seen in Alan, who may have become swollen-headed thinking the seat was reserved for him, is disheartening.
Letting go of the goodwill shown by the party is a grave sin” she added.

FLASHBACK: NPP MP busted for drug trafficking, jailed 10 years in US

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkoranza North, Eric Amoateng, was arrested in 2005 in the United States of America (USA) with an accomplice Nii Okai Adjei, for trafficking heroin.

Their arrest resulted in a series of moves by the US government including the seizure of 360 pounds (~ 160kg) of heroin, with a street value of about $6 million (at the time), which were stashed in pottery products imported into the US from Ghana.

Chairman of the Narcotics Control Board, Captain Nkrabea Effah Dartey, has confirmed that Eric Amoateng, Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkoranza North, is indeed the man who was busted in the US for drug trafficking.

Hon. Amoateng and an accomplice Nii Okai Adjei were arrested on Saturday, November 12, at a Staten Island storage facility.

Agents seized 136 pounds (~ 61 kg) of heroin concealed in crates of pottery and arrested the two men who had earlier picked up the shipment.

The heroin was one of the largest shipments in recent memory, with a street value of more than $6 million.

The MP has already been arraigned on charges of conspiracy with intent to distribute heroin.

Eric Boateng was on July 30, 2014

Eric Amoateng (In suit) leaving court in 2016 after being acquitted and discharged on a charge of possessing a forged travelling document

Following his 10-year incarceration in the U.S., Amoateng once again encountered legal troubles, this time for alleged possession of forged travel documents.

Despite his not-guilty plea and subsequent acquittal, the incident raised questions about his activities post-release.

Upon his return to Ghana on August 7, 2014, authorities at Kotoka International Airport discovered him with a passport issued in another individual’s name, suggesting forgery.

Then there were recent reports of Amoateng’s involvement with the Narcotics Control Commission; which were promptly refuted by a statement from Francis Opoku-Amoah, Head of Communications at the Commission.

The statement clarified that Amoateng had never been employed by or served on the Governing Board of the Commission, urging the public to dismiss such claims.

  • In search of NPP running mate, a case for Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh

In search of NPP running mate, a case for Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh

It is true that concerning the search for a running mate to the NPP flag bearer, several names have popped up as possible leading contenders. But, it is also true that the name, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (alias Napo), has popped up as the number one leading contender for this job.

Political scientists and watchers have, rightly so, tipped the Energy Minister, as the most suitable candidate for the running mate job to help the NPP break the 8.

In view of this, he [Napo] has become the primary target for all kinds of vicious propaganda and myths thrown at him by his critics both within and outside the party in a desperate attempt to water-down his chances.

For the NDC, their biggest fear is that the selection of Napo as running mate will spell doom for their political fortunes particularly in the Ashanti Region and among young people across the country. In this piece, the writer shall be responding to these vicious propaganda, clearing the myths and setting the records straight, thus, making a solid case on why it has to be Napo.

First, they say, Napo is ARROGANT, and that appears to be their biggest trump card against him. However, I say without doubt that any such description of Napo is highly misconceived, baseless and not supported by reality. In relation to this, what can be said of Napo which is factual is that, he is DECISIVE, BOLD, OUTSPOKEN, FIRM and has HUGE PRESENCE in everything he does.

Unfortunately, in our part of the world, these attributes are easily misconstrued as signs of ARROGANCE, and the opposite of same often mistaken as signs of HUMILITY.

Napo has only become a victim of the former. Even his sense of humour is sometimes deliberately and mischievously misinterpreted by his critics as sign of arrogance. Anybody that objectively analyses the personality of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh and his records in public and private life would certainly never associate him with arrogance. It is just not plausible to do that. Instead, the objective mind would say, Dr. Prempeh is down to earth but at the same time firm and decisive.

It is this decisiveness and firmness of Napo that made him to successfully rollout the Free SHS policy (the BOLDEST social intervention in the nation’s education sector since Independence) within the first year of the Akufo-Addo government, at the time some senior members of the government were raising serious misgivings, claiming it was too early to do so. Again, it is Napo’s decisiveness and boldness that have ensured discipline in the nation’s petroleum industry and also guaranteed stable power supply in the country even during the period of unprecedented economic crisis.

It would also be recalled that not long ago, Napo, as Energy Minister, properly exercised his oversight responsibility over the governing Board of the GNPC, chaired by Hon. Freddie Blay, the immediate past National Chairman of the governing NPP, who was then accused of offering interest in Ghana’s oil fields to a South African oil company, PetroSA. Napo gallantry insisted that the deal was not in the best interest of Ghana, and therefore ordered the Chairman to immediately cancel the offer.

The Energy Minister’s position was later vindicated by Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and other think tanks in the petroleum sector. Certainly, only bold and decisive leaders can do that.
There is, indeed, no gainsaying that what is needed from a leader is results, nothing more, nothing less. We need leaders that solve problems, and not leaders that only speak big English and project themselves as the citadel of humility. In any case, the contest for the presidency of a country is certainly NOT a HUMILITY CONTEST, else, we should make the National Chief Imam or the Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana the President of Ghana for life.

Perish the thought; even if we were to assume WITHOUT ADMITTING that Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh is who they claim he is, i.e. arrogant, what really does the serious business of governance got to do with such matters?… Issues of arrogance, humility or the lack of it. Governance is a serious business, one of bread and butter. It is the competence of the leader and his proven track record that should really matter. Leadership is simply about solving problems.

I will, on any day, vote for a so-called arrogant leader who can provide me free education, affordable healthcare, stable electricity, good roads, good food and water, better economy, and, indeed, solve my problems. I will NOT vote for a leader who only comes to give me humility whilst I’m dying of hunger and getting overwhelmed with challenges. Martin Luther King Jnr. was right when he asseverated that, “the ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in the moments of comfort, but where he stands at times of challenge”.

Another propaganda against Napo is the claim that he is desperate for the running mate job, and that, the overwhelming calls coming from the rank and file of the party for Napo to be made the running mate is self-induced. His critics also say, Napo has a Presidential ambition and so, he will undermine Bawumia’s presidency if he becomes the Vice President. How low can these people stoop in their inordinate quest to destroy a good man!

First, Napo is not and cannot be said to be desperate for this running mate job. His commitment to the forward march of the NPP and Ghana goes beyond any desires for the Presidency of the country. He has demonstrated clearly that even if he is not nominated as running mate, he will work hard for the NPP to break the 8. He is focused on his job as MP for Manhyia South.

In fact, he was the first person to file his nomination seeking reelection as MP. How can he be said to be desperate for running mate? It is however noteworthy that some of the things Napo has been doing all the time which often go unnoticed, if he does them now, people sometimes deliberately take pictures of him for mischief purposes. How unfortunate!

Well, let it be placed on record that Napo has not changed at all. He remains the Napo we know all the time. The groundswell of endorsements he is receiving from the party’s rank and file is NOT self-induced. It is purely ORGANIC love for a man with an incredible kind heart. Napo’s generosity is legendary. His generosity does not also know any regional, religious or political divide. As a matter of fact, there cannot be an overestimation of the number of individuals and families he has supported and continues to support.

How is it Napo’s fault when beneficiaries of his generous support come to share their stories in the media; stories of how Napo has transformed their lives and livelihoods.

How is that self-induced? Indeed, what can be more natural and organic than that? The youth of the NPP and beyond love Napo to the core because he has rightly earned their love. Party executives from polling station to the national level love Napo because he has rightly earned their love. The entire Asanteman love Napo because he has rightly earned their love. He cannot be blamed for this.

It is also not Napo’s fault that he is the MOST DECORATED MINISTER OF STATE, sweeping virtually every Award, local and international, for which he has been nominated. For the avoidance of doubt, Napo’s political and professional life is replete with meritorious Awards for EXEMPLARY LEADERSHIP.

He didn’t start receiving these Awards today, and therefore, his continuous receipt of these Awards cannot in anyway be linked with the running mate job. Indeed, throughout the tenure of this government, Napo has, year after year, been adjudged the MOST HARDWORKING MINISTER. It didn’t start today and it wouldn’t end today. Celebrating the DESERVING is not only a step in the right direction but also a moral obligation.

On the claim that Napo has presidential ambition, hence should be disqualified, I say to the contrary, that, such ambition, if it really exists, is rather the very reason why Napo is the right man for this running mate job. A Vice President must always be someone who has ambition of succeeding his boss when his tenure ends.

This is because, that ambition will be an extra motivating factor for the Vice President to work even harder for the success of his boss, since he [the Vice President] will be assessed based on the record of his boss’ administration and how much he has contributed to that record. A typical example is what we are seeing today in respect of the current Vice President and his boss.

Having adequately responded to these baseless propaganda against Napo, I wish to seize the opportunity to reiterate my strong conviction that Napo is the most suitable candidate for the running mate job. Napo is deeply loved by young people in the party, and has the wherewithal to mobilize the support of the nation’s youth to help the NPP break the 8. It is noteworthy that Napo’s indomitable political influence goes beyond the Ashanti Region. He is a political colossus and a national asset for that matter.

It should also be noted that the biggest threat to the NPP’s electoral fortunes in 2024 is really not the NDC and its flag bearer, but APATHY within the NPP. It is for this reason that the NPP flag bearer must nominate a running mate who is loved by the party’s core support base. Without a shred of doubt, Napo is that person. Per our constitutional architecture, political parties exist only to win general elections and govern. Napo has demonstrated that he has what it takes to help the NPP win the next elections and to also govern the country effectively.

On account of the foregoing, it is evidently clear that the selection of Napo as our running mate will give the NPP the most POLITICAL CAPITAL in 2024. Our flag bearer should be encouraged to do the needful and NOT succumb to pressure from certain quarters that inexplicably think otherwise.

Napo has the unflinching support of young people in the party. It is not for nothing that all my colleagues, NPP Regional Youth Organizers support Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s bid. It is not for nothing that the National Youth Wing of the Party supports Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s bid. Dr. Prempeh also has the overwhelming support of party executives across all levels.

As party people, we are hungry to retain power in December 2024 for the prosperity of our party and nation. That is all that matters to us, and we cannot fail to deliver on this national duty. It doesn’t matter who helps us in this pursuit so long as it is not the devil. Further to the above cogent reasons in support of Napo, it is also worth making the point that our flag bearer is generally seen as calm and soft-spoken. He therefore needs an out-outspoken lieutenant to balance the ticket to be able to give the NDC a run for their money.

Our flag bearer is also seen as a technocrat. He therefore needs a ‘career politician’ as his lieutenant in order to keep faith with the NPP’s age-long tradition of always presenting a presidential ticket made up of a career politician and a technocrat. Yet again, Napo is the answer. Anyway and anyhow you nuance the analysis, you will only find the answers in Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (alias Napo). We just cannot afford to get it wrong for the sake of our party and country.
Long live the NPP and our dear Motherland, Ghana.

Ghana requires bold and decisive leader to achieve its goals – Bawumia

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has asserted that Ghana urgently requires a decisive leader to tackle critical issues like economic advancement, social equity, and infrastructure development.

Drawing on his background as an economist, he emphasizes his distinctive perspective and expertise in evidence-based policymaking and practical governance approaches.

In an interview with Africa Watch Magazine, Dr. Bawumia underscores his firsthand understanding of Ghana’s challenges and its vast potential for progress.

He expressed his zeal for implementing innovative solutions to propel Ghana’s growth and enhance the welfare of its citizens.

Dr. Bawumia, also the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer, stressed the importance of embracing digitalization to keep pace with global advancements and ensure Ghana’s prosperity.

He pledges to create a future where Ghana’s youth have access to quality education, an inclusive economy, and a fair and just society.

Responding to queries about his presidential campaign slogan “It is possible” and his motivation for seeking the presidency, Dr. Bawumia emphasizes his unwavering commitment to Ghana’s advancement and his preparedness for the role.

He views his candidacy as a service to the nation, rooted in integrity, humility, and vision, with a focus on problem-solving and positive impact.

Reflecting on his unexpected journey into politics, Dr. Bawumia acknowledges his childhood exposure to politics but never envisioned himself becoming a politician until President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo invited him to be his running mate.

Despite the career transition from Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana to politics, Dr. Bawumia saw it as an opportunity to contribute to Ghana’s development at the highest level and align with President Akufo-Addo’s vision.

Regarding his repeated selection as running mate from 2008 to 2020, Dr. Bawumia attributes it to President Akufo-Addo’s recognition of his trustworthiness, loyalty, competence, and contributions to their electoral victories in 2016 and 2020.

He views his performance as Vice President as a testament to his capabilities and suitability for the role.

“I am passionate about implementing innovative solutions to propel Ghana forward and improve the lives of all its citizens.”

“Digitalization is not just a policy initiative for me. It is a fundamental pillar of my vision for the future of our nation,” he added.

Responding to a question on his campaign slogan “It is possible,” and why he was running for President, the NPP flag bearer said, “I am running for president because I am deeply committed to the progress and prosperity of Ghana and its people.”

“I have prepared myself for the job and I want to assure Ghanaians I am ready to serve with all my heart and energies.”

“Running for President is not just about seeking power or prestige. It is about service to the nation and a commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of our people.

“It is about solving problems, and I am a problem-solver, as evidenced in my work at the Central Bank and as Vice-President,” he emphasised saying “I am ready to lead with integrity, humility, and vision, and I am confident that together, we can build a brighter future for Ghana.”

Challenges with voter registration exercise must be resolved – NPP to EC

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to swiftly resolve the challenges faced during the initial day of the limited voter registration exercise.

The party expressed worry that if these issues are not addressed promptly, they could result in voter disenfranchisement.

Various challenges, including machine malfunctions and network issues, were reported nationwide on the first day of the 21-day voter registration period.

Evans Nimako, the NPP’s Director of Elections and Research, emphasized the importance of the EC taking necessary steps to ensure that all eligible individuals are registered by the end of the exercise.

“Today is day one and it is expected that all those who are of age, the EC must come clear to us and let us know what is really happening. I mean, as I said, we can’t work out this situation where people have moved from their homes to registration centres only to be treated in this manner.

“It is the reason I am saying that the EC must walk the talk and let us know what the challenges are.”

This address followed his visit to the premises of Blue Skies Limited. Additionally, he encouraged those who have not yet registered for the electoral roll to participate in the Limited Voter registration exercise.

“The registration has started, I urge all persons yet to register to do so, Your vote is Your power.

“I can’t hand over to someone I defeated twice and who is not happy with everything I do, he will destroy the work that I have done.

NPP, NDC members clash during voter registration exercise at Awutu Senya West

Tension emerged among supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Awutu Senya West over the ongoing voter registration exercise today.

The exercise, which began on Tuesday morning, has been marred by confusion regarding attempts by the two dominant parties to prioritize the registration of their respective members.

According to Adom News’ Kofi Adjei, there is a queue that applicants must join for the process to proceed smoothly. However, some NPP executives allegedly sought to have their supporters registered first, claiming they arrived early.

The NDC resisted this move, leading to heated exchanges between the two sides. Police officers deployed to the registration centre intervened and managed to bring the situation under control.

2016 polls: We detonated dynamites to scare NDC supporters in Volta region away – Hopeson Adorye

Former aggrieved member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), now member of Alan’s Movement For Change, Hopeson Adorye, has confessed to a mechanism the ruling government adopted in 2016 to win the 2016 elections.

Speaking during an appearance on Accra FM’s ‘The Citizen Show’ with Nana Otu Darko on May 6, 2024, the former National Security boss revealed how he singlehandedly recruited five men from the Volta Region with whom he worked to scare eligible voters who were situated right on the borders of Ghana and Togo.

These five young men worked with him under an oath of secrecy, unbeknownst to the regional executives of Volta.

In an attempt to deter Voltarians, widely perceived as staunch supporters of the NDC, the former National Security boss directed these men to detonate dynamites along the border. The aim was to intimidate them into fleeing to Togoland, thus preventing them from voting in the elections.

“There are people who have their houses on the border with their windows directed towards Togo; such people can come and vote during elections.

I took it upon myself. that we should go and control elections on the border. I picked 5 men and made them take an oath not to tell the regional executives about our plans.

I only informed Akufo-Addo the fourth time. It didn’t end there; three days before the elections, we went before the buy dynamites and exploded them,” he said.

Fearing potential danger or threats on election day, these voters flee to Togo in search of refuge.

“On the day of the election, when they took buses to pick up the voters, they met only chickens, not a single human being, because they had all run into the main cities of Togo.

Businesses should not be painted with party political brush – Gabby Otchere-Darko

Gabby Otchere-Darko, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed his desire for a future where business people are not associated with political affiliations.

He emphasized the importance of treating business people as individuals focused on success and job creation, rather than labeling them based on their political connections.

In a recent statement, Otchere-Darko highlighted the negative impact of tagging business people with political affiliations, stating that it hinders growth and development in Africa.

He called for a shift towards recognizing business people for their contributions to the economy, regardless of their political beliefs.

“I yearn for the day when business people will just be business people. And, will not be treated with party political brush. Not NKP business man or DCP business man. They just want their business to succeed and create jobs. The tagging destroys. It stifles growth in Africa,” he wrote.

NPP risks losing votes in 2024 elections over abandoned markets in Ashanti Region

Several trader associations in Kumasi have declared their intent to oppose the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming 2024 general election if the government does not complete all abandoned markets in the Ashanti Region.

These associations, including the Second-hand Cloth Sellers Association, Santasi Traders Union, Suame Magazine Workers Union, Mamponteng Traders Association, Central Market Traders Association, and the Kumasi Lotto Sellers Association, issued a joint statement on Monday, May 6.

They threatened to organize a five-day protest in collaboration with other affected associations if their demands are not met.

In the meantime, they have requested intervention from Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Ashanti Queen Mother Nana Konadu Yiadom to urge the government to address their concerns.

Additionally, the traders warned that they would take action to remove barricades on the Kejetia Second Phase project if their demands are not addressed promptly.

“We are by this press release urging the Contracta company to remove all the barricades from the Kejetia second phase projects before we do it by ourselves because we will not think twice to take it off to do our businesses there if our demand is not heard.”

Walewale NPP in turmoil as Dr. Kabiru’s candidature sparks controversy

Confusion has arisen within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) camp in the Walewale constituency of the North East region regarding the reaffirmation of Dr. Kabiru Tia Mahama as the party’s 2024 Parliamentary candidate by the constituency executives, patrons, council of elders, and electoral area coordinators.

In a statement signed by Walewale Constituency Chairman Mohammed Janda Muniru, it was declared that after extensive discussions with Constituency Executives, Patrons, the Council of Elders, and Area Coordinators, the entire body reaffirmed the declaration of Dr. Mahama Tiah Abdul Kabiru as the parliamentary candidate for the Walewale Constituency by the Electoral Commission on January 27, 2024.

Furthermore, the statement revealed that the house tasked the Patrons and Council of Elders with engaging the Member of Parliament, Hajia Lariba Abudu Zuwera, in meaningful discussions to prioritise the party’s interests and resolve electoral disputes for the sake of peace, unity, and harmony.

In contrast, another statement issued by the constituency secretary, Wuni Yidana, advised the public to disregard the assertion that the constituency executives reaffirmed Dr. Kabiru Tia Mahama as the party’s 2024 parliamentary candidate.

Amidst these conflicting statements, the Walewale constituency chairman has called upon all parties, supporters, and sympathizers to set aside their differences and collaborate for unity in securing victory in the upcoming December elections.

“I wish to state in no uncertain terms that no decision was ever reached at the said meeting, in which the stakeholders purportedly reaffirmed the declaration of Dr. Kabiru Mahama as our Party’s Candidate of our constituency.”.

He disclosed that the conduct of the constituency Chairman is contemptuous, as the Constituency Parliamentary Primary is a subject matter of litigation still pending before the High Court in Tamale.

“I wish to state that the conduct of the constituency Chairman is contemptuous as our Constituency Parliamentary Primary is a subject matter of litigation still pending before the High Court Tamale and an act which will seriously militate against the amicable settlement of the matter as the Court has given our great party up to May 23, 2024, to announce back to the Court the outcome of any amicable settlement of the matter.”.

He entreated all members of NPP in the Walewale Constituency, to remain calm and treat the said publication or letter authored by the Constituency Chairman with the contempt that it deserves.

“I urge the leadership of our Party to do everything possible to take the opportunity given the party by the Court to resolve the matter seriously and enrol all the stakeholders on board in order to come out with an outcome that will resolve the lingering issue and bring all hands on board to ensuring that we win the upcoming General Elections emphatically for the Presidential Candidate and whoever is eventually be declared as our Parliamentary Candidate”.

The incumbent Member of Parliament for the Walewale constituency and former Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Lariba Zuweira Abudu, proceeded to the Tamale High court to contest the results declared at the NPP parliamentary primary in the Walewale constituency.

Subsequently, Justice Richard Kogyapwah of the Tamale High Court granted a plea by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to resolve the issues related to the Walewale constituency parliamentary primary out of court.

The NPP noted that settling the case out of court will be the best way to sustain peace and unity in the party ahead of the 2024 general elections and the court gave up to this month to come back.

Who gives bribes in such a manner ? – Former NPP MP on alleged bribery at Ejisu elections

Former MP for Ayensuano, Samuel Ayeh-Paye, offered his insights on the bribery accusations levelled against the Member of Parliament for Kwadaso during the recent Ejisu by-election.

On the May 5, 2024, episode of The Big Issue on Citi TV, Mr. Ayeh-Paye discussed the justifications presented by the current MP for his conduct.

He expressed surprise at the criticism directed at the MP, contending that the alleged bribery does not reflect logical behaviour.

“You don’t have to give lunch to the electoral officers on duty. My struggle is that nobody gives a bribe in that manner, openly like that.

I don’t think anybody in his rightful sense will do that,” Mr. Ayeh-Paye stated, casting doubt on the likelihood that a sane individual would engage in such overt acts of bribery.

The incident under scrutiny involves a video circulating online depicting the MP placing an envelope on a table in front of two Electoral Commission officers during the by-election.

This action has sparked widespread interpretation as an alleged attempt to bribe the officers, a claim vehemently denied by the MP.

He insists that the gesture was merely a friendly offer of lunch.

As the controversy escalated, the police initiated an investigation to uncover the truth behind the incident.

In response, the MP has issued an apology for any misunderstanding his actions may have caused and has committed to fully cooperating with the investigative process.

You will be rich, millonaires when I come to power – Bawumia to small-scale miners

During his Nationwide Tour, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), promised to elevate small-scale miners to millionaire status if he becomes president.

Speaking to a gathering of small-scale miners in the Western Region, the vice president detailed his plans to overhaul the mining sector for the benefit of local miners.

He underscored the importance of implementing community mining schemes in disused shafts and exploring new mining areas as strategies to generate employment opportunities and foster wealth creation among citizens.

“We will talk to the big mining companies; abandoned shafts, we will open them as community mining schemes for our people, and the new places that we will discover, we will open them. We will create jobs for our people, we will make you millionaires and we will make you rich, that is what we are going to do,” he declared.

Despite Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s pledge, some small-scale miners remain skeptical.

Michael Kojo Peprah, President of the Small-Scale Miners Association, dismissed Bawumia’s promise as mere political rhetoric.

He highlighted the challenges endured by small-scale miners during the current administration, such as a one-year ban on their sector and the contentious Operation Vanguard.

“I think he is just trying to lie to us. We became very poor when his government came into power. That was when they placed a one-year ban on our sector.

We were in this country when the government started burning excavators when they brought about this operation Vanguard.

“He was the vice president. Joe Osei Owusu told us in this country to shoot to kill small-scale miners. He never did or said anything to console us. We were here when excavators flew from Ghana into our neighbouring countries, he never said anything.

“So if you have about eight months to redeem whatever your government has done and you’ve not been able to do it, and you come back to tell us that you want to make us millionaires, then we take what he said as a joke.”

‘I am bitter, I don’t even have to lie about it – Hopeson Adorye on NPP exit

Movement for Change’s Director of Special Duties, Hopeson Adorye, has declared that it would be hypocritical of him to pretend he isn’t resentful of the way the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has handled him.

On Friday, May 3, 2024, Adorye stated he was still hurt by being kicked out of the party even though he almost went to jail for the NPP in an interview with Okay FM.

“If I tell you on this station that I am not bitter, then I am a hypocrite. I would be the biggest hypocrite in the country… Was it not in your studio that I sat and nearly got jailed because of the NPP? Am I a fool?

“I am not a hypocrite to deny that I am bitter… My death would have been a foolish one if I had died. You have to understand why sometimes we complain,” he told Kwame Nkrumah Tikese.

The NPP declared that Adorye had resigned from the organisation after endorsing Alan Kyerematen’s independent bid for president.

He claimed that the party had mistreated him even prior to his expulsion from the NPP.

He claimed that he was fired from his position as Deputy National Security Coordinator, which included overseeing the Kotoka International Airport’s VIP lounge, because of his relationship with Alan Kyerematen.

Akufo-Addo has become an NPP president and people are angry – Kwesi Pratt

The Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has voiced criticism against President Akufo-Addo, accusing him of making statements that could fuel public anger and sow division.

Mr Pratt’s criticism stems from remarks made by President Akufo-Addo during a campaign event for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate in the Ejisu by-election.

The President suggested that only NPP Members of Parliament could effectively push for development in their constituencies under his administration.

However, Kwesi Pratt expressed his dissatisfaction, stating, “When I was coming this morning, I listened to my friend and brother, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and I am sad because if you do that, you are getting people angry.”

Continuing his statement, Pratt remarked, “Nana Akufo-Addo went to Ejisu to campaign for the NPP candidate, and he was saying that he gives approval for all the roads in the country before they can be constructed. What does that mean? So, does that mean that in all the places where there are no good roads, he hasn’t given approval for the roads to be constructed? What a statement!”

“Besides that,” Pratt added, “he said he is an NPP president, and Nana Akufo-Addo is today telling us that he is an NPP president, so if you want development in your constituency, vote for an NPP person because an NPP member is the one who can go to the president to talk about development.”

“I am sad because I thought that as a president, he was leading us all, but he has become a president for a political party.”

I will vote for NPP even if it presents a stone as its candidate – Supporter

Various factors influence why voters support specific political parties or candidates during elections.

In the recently concluded Ejisu by-election, a voter expressed her unwavering support for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), regardless of the candidate presented by the party.

In a video circulating on social media, an unnamed woman emphasized her loyalty to the NPP, stating that she would vote for the party even if they presented an inanimate object instead of a human candidate.

“Even if you bring a stone as the NPP candidate, if it is NPP, I will vote for it. Lawyer go, lawyer come. If a stone is presented 100 times, I will vote for it,” she asserted to a journalist.

Her mention of ‘lawyer go, lawyer come’ refers to the victory of lawyer Kwabena Boateng, the NPP candidate, in the Ejisu by-election.

Boateng is slated to replace the late Member of Parliament for Ejisu, John Kumah, who was also a lawyer.

Following the April 30 vote, Boateng secured 55.8% of valid votes cast, while his closest rival, former Ejisu MP Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, garnered over 43%.

Boateng is expected to be sworn into office during the next session of Parliament.

“Even if you bring a stone as the NPP candidate, if it is NPP, I will vote for it. Lawyer go, lawyer come. If a stone is presented 100 times, I will vote for it,” she told a journalist.

BREAKING: NPP retains Ejisu seat as Kwabena Boateng emerges as winner in by-election

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has retained the Ejisu seat and its Majority position in Parliament after its parliamentary candidate Kwabena Boateng was declared winner in the just-ended Ejisu-by election held on Tuesday, April 30, 2024.

He beat his closest contender, Former Ejusi MP, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, who ran as an independent candidate, by securing 55.8 percent of the total votes cast.

Kwabena Owusu Aduomi garnered 43.3 percent of the total votes.

Beatrice Boakye of the Liberal Party had 0.3 per cent. Esther Osei of the Convention People’s Party received 0.2 percent of the vote. Independent Candidates Joseph Agyemang and Atakora Joseph had 0.2 percent and 0.0 percent respectively.

The poll was not devoid of controversy, as reports of vote-buying, confiscation of identification cards, and other electoral malpractice surfaced during the just-ended elections.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has suspended two officials who were allegedly caught accepting a bribe during the Ejisu by-election.

The accusation involves Kingsley Nyarko, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, who was seen in a viral video handing what appeared to be an envelope to the EC officials.

“The Electoral Commission has taken immediate steps and has withdrawn the two (2) temporary staff while investigations take place.

“The commission upholds the principles and values of integrity, truth and transparency. These values are reinforced during the training of all temporary staff.

“The commission will not countenance acts which cast a slur on the integrity of the institutions and will not hesitate to sanction its officials who violate its laws,” the Commission stated.

Kingsley Nyarko has denied allegations of attempting to bribe electoral officers. He reaffirmed his readiness to fully cooperate with any investigations that may ensue.

    Background

Six candidates were cleared by the Electoral Commission, EC, to contest in the Ejisu by-election in the Ashanti Region.

The Ejisu seat had been vacant since March 7, 2024, following the death of its Member of Parliament for the area, Dr. John A. Kumah, who is yet to be buried.

Nominations opened by the Electoral Commission were officially closed on Thursday, April 18, with six candidates, comprising two females and four males, successfully filing their nominations and being cleared to contest.

The candidates were; Esther Osei representing the Convention People’s Party (CPP) who picked the number one spot, followed by the NPP’s Lawyer Kwabena Boateng, Beatrice Boakye of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), and a former NPP MP who contested as an independent candidate, Ing. Kwabena Owusu Aduomi.

The other two candidates were Gabriel Agyemang Joseph and Attakorah Joseph, both running as independents for the 5th and 6th positions, respectively.

Stephen Ntim, the National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has vowed to reconcile Independent Candidate Kwabena Owusu Aduomi with the party.

Aduomi, a former three-time NPP Member of Parliament for the constituency, opted to contest as an Independent Candidate in the Ejisu by-election.

He cited the NPP’s failure to address concerns regarding the delegates’ list, which he believes undermines the party’s integrity and fairness.

Accusations of betrayal and suggestions of defection to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) were leveled against Aduomi by some NPP members. However, Aduomi refuted these claims, asserting his continued support from NDC backers.

In an interview with Citi News, Mr. Ntim expressed concern over the intra-party competition between two candidates from the same party.

“Yes, it is worrying because the two main competitors, Aduomi and Kwabena Boateng belong to the same fold, family. We should not be looking at jubilating, I’m not jubilating. My focus now is on how to bring the Aduomi factor back to the fold, bringing him back to the family.

“So that in December when we are going to face the real political opponents, we are going us a unified NPP front. It shouldn’t be difficult at all. Whatever it is, we are going to reach out. As a national chairman, I’m promising you, we will take up the mantle and reach out to him.”

Deputy National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Malik Basintale, has issued a warning that if the NDC assumes power in the future, Charles Bissue and other NPP appointees accused of corruption will face legal repercussions.

Malik’s statement follows recent remarks from the NPP suggesting that the current government will not relinquish power easily.

However, according to the Deputy National Communications Officer of the NDC, it is evident that the NPP is fearful of being exposed. Furthermore, he asserts that not only will they be exposed, but John Mahama (when he becomes president) will also ensure that they face consequences for their actions.

“I am sayin that President Mahama has said that, next year by this time, Many corrupt appointees will be standing trial, President Mahama has repeatedly said, that the president’s corrupt appointees who engaged in corruption….and I know that next year by this time,. Even Mr Charles Bissue himself will be standing investigation. Because I mean he is the first gentleman to count corrupt money on camera. And all these people will be prosecuted. So if because of the prosecution of such people you stand on the podium and say “we will never hand over power”, then prepare for jail next year,” He told Roland Walker on TV3’s morning show program.

Professor Charles Marfo Ofori, a former president of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP), suggesting they shouldn’t be taken seriously if they choose a woman as their running mate.

Prof. Marfo expressed dissatisfaction with the NPP’s approach to gender politics, especially in light of the National Democratic Congress (NDC’s) recent selection of Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as their female running mate.

“I like women a lot, so you can even refer to me as a womanizer, it’s fine, so I don’t have a problem with women.

“But if they (the NPP) appoint a woman, it is going to be so clear that it is because of Jane. It has unsettled them, and we should not consider such a party as a serious one,” he said on a panel discussion on Oyerepa TV on April 26, 2024.

He further argued that the prominence of a woman within the NDC has unsettled the NPP’s agenda, causing disruption to their tactics and revealing their weaknesses.

“Jane has unsettled them, decapitated their strategies, that is how I see it. Not that I am canvassing for Matthew Opoku Prempeh, but that man has done well,” he added.

Today, April 30, voters in the Ejisu constituency will cast their votes to choose a new Member of Parliament. This follows the passing of John Kumah, who was elected under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ticket in 2020.

Kumah, serving as deputy finance minister, has been chosen as the NPP candidate for the December 2024 elections. Interestingly, the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), opted not to nominate a candidate, citing its intention to concentrate efforts on the broader 2024 general elections.

We examine significant figures related to the election organization. Given that the vote is situated in the Ashanti Region, traditionally a stronghold for the NPP, expectations lean towards their victory.

    Six aspirants

The Electoral Commission (EC), weeks back announced that six aspirants were in the race. Three party-backed candidates and three independent candidates.

The list in order of their appearance on the ballot paper is as follows:

    1. Esther Osei (CPP)
    2. Kwabena Boateng (NPP)

    4. Kwabena Owusu Aduomi (Independent)
    5. Gabriel Agyemang Joseph (Independent)
    6. Attakorah Joseph (Independent)

Col Gaisie implicated in NPP HQs’ $100k National Security bribe in Nicaragua ‘Jakpa’ saga

Tension has arisen at the New Patriotic Party Headquarters following allegations that two National Security officials utilized the Asylum Down office for the receipt of a US$100,000 payment related to flight facilitation to Nicaragua.

The individuals in question, Ali Mohammed Kasule (commonly known as Aliu) and Robert Yaw Akumpo (referred to as Roberts), purportedly met with their counterparts inside an office at the NPP Headquarters in late 2022 to receive an initial payment of US$80,000.

This payment was intended for flight clearance for a chartered flight to Nicaragua, aimed at facilitating the journey of some youth seeking a pathway to the United States, as confirmed by MyNewsGh.com.

The two National Security officials received the funds from Mohammed Tindannayil Bala, who serves as the coordinator for the Nicaragua trip.

Specifically, US$80,000 was exchanged at the NPP party office in Asylum Down, while the remaining US$20,000 was transacted at Aliu’s residence in Nanakrom.

The money originated from youth residing in various communities such as Nima, Mamobi, New Town, 441, Kumasi, Tamale, Bimbila, Takoradi, and other locations across the country, all seeking better opportunities in the United States via the Nicaragua route.

Following the cancellation of the trip, Aliu and Roberts allegedly went into hiding, refusing to refund the money.

They claim to have already disbursed US$15,000 to Colonel Gaisey, the head of National Security at the airport, but are unable to retrieve it.

  • And so what if I am an NDC member, it doesn’t concern you – Former Ejisu MP goes hard on NPP

And so what if I am an NDC member, it doesn’t concern you – Former Ejisu MP goes hard on NPP

Former Ejisu Member of Parliament, Kwame Owusu Aduomi, has broken his silence after being accused of siding with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in his quest to win the Ejisu by-election slated for April 30, 2024.

In his final campaign rally before the Ejisu by-election on April 30, flagbearer for the NPP, Dr Bawumia warned against splitting votes among independent candidates, suggesting that such actions could unintentionally benefit the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its leader, John Mahama.

“The NPP government has improved the lives and the people of Ejisu than the NDC. Nothing really worked during the NDC era…MPs don’t sponsor projects; they lobby for projects from the government in power…In parliament, the NPP has 138 including the independent candidate while NDC has 137. And so, a vote for an independent means handing over power to NDC and John Mahama.

“And so that is why the NDC did not fill a candidate for this by-election, they are sponsoring the independent candidate”, he remarked. Let’s all come out in our numbers on election day and vote massively for Lawyer Kwabena Boateng to continue the late John Kumah’s work”, he said.

Reacting to this comment while engaging the media, Kwame Owusu Aduomi noted that should the NDC support him, it could only mean they are impressed by the initiatives he took while serving as a legislator.

Despite indicating that he is not an NDC member, he noted that it is none of the ruling party’s business should he decide to join the opposition party.

“Living here with you all, can you say I am not an NPP member? But they say I am an NDC member. If NDC likes me, it could be because of my good work when I was an MP. They all benefited from it. So if NDC likes me, that is it but that does not mean I am an NDC,” he said.

“Even if I am an NDC member, I like it. It doesn’t concern you.”

He also cautioned against any tactics by the ruling party that would surmount the will of the Ejisu electorates.

“Anyone who tries to manipulate the elections or brings thugs to cause violence, shall not succeed. It will not happen here. Anyone who tries that will also face the consequences.

“Here is a town belonging to Yaa Asantewaa. So we are not afraid of blood,” he said.

President Akufo-Addo has strongly refuted accusations that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) intends to manipulate the upcoming Ejisu by-election.

Addressing voters, he urged them to disregard such claims made by the Independent Parliamentary Candidate, Kwame Owusu Aduomi.

Ahead of the by-election to fill the seat left vacant by the late John Kumah, political messaging has intensified as the governing party presents Kwabena Boateng as its candidate.

Mr. Boateng will compete against five other candidates, including Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, who parted ways with the governing party to run independently in the upcoming by-election.
