They deny dumsor, yet hired plants for their Ejisu rally! – X user slams NPP

A tweet from @_AlbertAkwesi, shared on X (formerly Twitter), suggests that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) enlisted a standby power source for their rally in Ejisu, anticipating potential power outages (dumsor) which have become increasingly common recently.

Despite assertions from some party members, including Energy Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh, backing the Electricity Company of Ghana’s claims of providing stable nationwide power supply.

According to the ECG any outage experienced in any town or community could be as a result of localised fault.

Consequently, @_AlbertAkwesi, jabbed the NPP over its proactiveness to hired a plant if it claims ‘dumsor’ isn’t nationwide disturbance but localised.

“NPP hired a Plant for their last Rally in Ejisu, yet you are here defending dumsor … 🤣🤣 saying nana addos dumsor is dark and lovely 🤡🤡” he tweeted.

The decision to have a standby power source reflects the party’s proactive approach to mitigate any disruptions during the rally, acknowledging the challenges faced by citizens due to intermittent power supply; a claim which they deny.

Over the weekend, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) organized a significant rally in Ejisu as part of their campaign efforts leading up to the Ejisu by-election scheduled for April 30, 2024.

This comes after the seat become vacant following the demise of the Member of Parliament and deputy Finance Minsiter John Kumah

Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, also the NPP’s presidential candidate, urged constituents to vote for the party’s candidate, Kwabena Boateng, stressing the importance of continuity and progress.

Special appearances by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia were anticipated at the rally. The event complemented the unity walk in Kumasi and aimed to garner support for Kwabena Boateng.

With the NPP aiming to maintain its parliamentary majority, the rally played a crucial role in their efforts to mobilize support.

Internal conflicts will be addressed before 2024 elections – NPP Chairman

The National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Stephen Ntim, has promised to address internal party conflicts as the party prepares for the December elections.

Recent disputes, such as members running as independent candidates in the 2024 parliamentary elections, have led to dissatisfaction among party members.

Speaking at a significant rally in Ejisu on Sunday, April 28, Mr. Ntim reassured supporters that the party would take decisive action to resolve these issues and maintain unity.

He urged all party members to remain calm and united as they prepare for the upcoming tasks.

“I do not want issues of independent candidature to plague our party”, Ntim stated as he wooed electorates to vote for the NPP’s Kwabena Boateng.”

“And it is obvious that such individuals are closest members of our great party. But I can assure you that when Kwabena Boateng is elected MP for Ejisu our national leadership will ensure that all internal issues in the various constituencies will be resolved, he added.

Hundreds of supporters of the ruling party gathered in Ejisu and other locations for final campaign rallied ahead of the polls on 30 April. The streets were filled with political messaging as the ruling party presented Kwabena Boateng to retain the seat.

President Akufo-Addo, who joined the campaign trail, addressed the crowd and responded to accusations made by former NPP MP turned independent candidate Kwabena Owusu Aduomi.

Mr Aduomi, who left the NPP to contest independently, alleged that the ruling party was planning to win the late John Kumah’s seat through intimidation and rigging tactics.

President Akufo-Addo dismissed Aduomi’s claims, questioning their validity given Aduomi’s prior victories under the NPP banner. He urged voters in Ejisu to disregard Aduomi’s allegations and emphasized the importance of a fair election process.

“In 2008, when he defeated the incumbent MP, who was even a Cabinet Minister, did the NPP rig the elections for him?

“So why does he now allege that we will rig the elections just because he has been defeated by someone else? Is this fair?” he asked.

“We are not afraid of blood” – Former Ejisu MP ‘warns’ NPP against vote rigging ahead of by-election

Former Ejisu Member of Parliament, Kwame Owusu Aduomi, has sounded a word of caution to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the Ejisu by-election slated for April 30, 2024.

There are reports that the ruling party seeks to engage in electoral malpractice in order to reclaim the Ejisu seat.

But President Akufo-Addo has strongly refuted accusations that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) intends to manipulate the upcoming Ejisu by-election. Addressing voters, he urged them to disregard such claims made by the Independent Parliamentary Candidate, Kwame Owusu Aduomi.

Nonetheless, while addressing the media, Kwame Owusu Aduomi noted that the Ejisu electorates are willing to protect their votes from any individual or group that seeks to undermine their rights.

“Anyone who tries to manipulate the elections or brings thugs to cause violence, shall not succeed. It will not happen here. Anyone who tries that will also face the consequences.

“Here is a town belonging to Yaa Asantewaa. So we are not afraid of blood,” he said.

He also addressed claims by the NPP suggesting that he now sides with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in his quest to win the by-election.

In his final campaign rally before the Ejisu by-election on April 30, flagbearer for the NPP, Dr Bawumia warned against splitting votes among independent candidates, suggesting that such actions could unintentionally benefit the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its leader, John Mahama.

“The NPP government has improved the lives and the people of Ejisu than the NDC. Nothing really worked during the NDC era…MPs don’t sponsor projects; they lobby for projects from the government in power…In parliament, the NPP has 138 including the independent candidate while NDC has 137. And so, a vote for an independent means handing over power to NDC and John Mahama.

“And so that is why the NDC did not fill a candidate for this by-election, they are sponsoring the independent candidate”, he remarked. Let’s all come out in our numbers on election day and vote massively for Lawyer Kwabena Boateng to continue the late John Kumah’s work”, he said.

Reacting to this comment while engaging the media, Kwame Owusu Aduomi noted that should the NDC support him, it could only mean they are impressed by the initiatives he took while serving as a legislator.

Despite indicating that he is not an NDC member, he noted that it is none of the ruling party’s business should he decide to join the opposition party.

“Living here with you all, can you say I am not an NPP member? But they say I am an NDC member. If NDC likes me, it could be because of my good work when I was an MP. They all benefited from it. So if NDC likes me, that is it but that does not mean I am an NDC,” he said.

“Even if I am an NDC member, I like it. It doesn’t concern you.”

Ahead of the by-election to fill the seat left vacant by the late John Kumah, political messaging has intensified as the governing party presents Kwabena Boateng as its candidate.

Mr. Boateng will compete against five other candidates, including Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, who parted ways with the governing party to run independently in the upcoming by-election.

NPP has done enough to deserve a third term – Party communicator

Eric Twum, a member of the New Patriotic Party’s Communications Team, has asserted that the NPP has performed admirably and deserves to be retained in the upcoming December polls.

Twum criticized the NPP’s main opponent, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), claiming that they have failed to demonstrate to Ghanaians that they are a better alternative for leading the country towards socio-political development.

Speaking on The Big Issue on Citi FM and Citi TV, Twum emphasized that the NPP is focused on highlighting the positive initiatives and actions undertaken by the government to improve the lives of all citizens.

“We are focused and we have a number of positive things that we can give out to the people of this country to talk to them about and help them make the bold decision to side with us instead of a flagbearer [John Dramani Mahama] who has been rejected by the people before and will be rejected again.

“We have been able to galvanize our base and we have a future as a country and that future does not lie with the NDC.”

He further stated that the NDC and its flagbearer have failed to present any concrete and feasible policies to address the needs of Ghanaians in the past year, indicating that they have nothing new to offer the country.

“I am still struggling to remember a single policy that the NDC has proposed in the last year and I can’t remember. What will Ghanaians remember Mahama for? These are the things that we will be having conversations about. The NDC has not proposed anything apart from promising to review and abolish some initiatives of this government.”

Tapha Tassah wins Akan NPP parliamentary primary

Mr. Tapha Tassah, a private legal practitioner based in Accra, has emerged victorious in the Akan New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate election.

He secured 316 votes, defeating Rabiu Awal, the Akan constituency NPP chairman, who garnered 296 votes. The total valid votes cast were 612, with no rejected ballots.

The result was declared by Mr. Justice Odame-Frempong, the Kadjebi District Electoral Officer, at Kadjebi in the Oti Region.

In his acceptance speech, Lawyer Tassah expressed gratitude to the delegates, describing their vote as a call to duty. He pledged to work tirelessly with the constituency chairman to secure the Akan seat for the NPP for the first time.

Assuring party members that campaign logistics would not be an issue, he stated his readiness to handle the campaign effectively.

Chairman Awal, the runner-up, assured Lawyer Tassah of his full support in the December 7 polls to win the seat for the party.

Mr. Jonathan Akpabey Menu, the NPP’s Oti regional secretary, urged party members to campaign vigorously for the NPP candidate to “Break the Eight.” He emphasized the importance of starting the campaign immediately, acknowledging the significant task ahead.

  • What record did you leave as Education Minister? – NPP Communication member asks Prof Opoku-Agyemang

What record did you leave as Education Minister? – NPP Communication member asks Prof Opoku-Agyemang

Eric Twum, a member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Communications Team, has criticized Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, for what he perceives as a lack of notable achievements during her tenure as Minister of Education.

During an interview on The Big Issue on Citi FM and Citi TV, Mr Twum suggested that Prof Opoku-Agyemang’s political leadership record is lacking, leading to discomfort from the NDC when her performance is scrutinized.

Mr Twum argued that a comparative analysis of her time at the Ministry of Education and its current status would reveal positive developments that stakeholders can acknowledge.

“Given the political platform, she has been a Minister of Education before and has also been chosen as a running mate before, so there is a lot to interrogate but the challenge I have with the NDC is that it is almost as if she is supposed to be absolved from and taken out of any kind of interrogation.

“You saw her stewardship as a Minister of Education and what is it that she can point out as her record? If you do a comparative analysis of education under her watch and now, the stakeholders will attest to a different educational system as stakeholders.”

Halt plans to paint public basic schools in NPP colours – Apaak to gov’t

Deputy Ranking Member on the Education Committee of Parliament, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, has criticized the Akufo-Addo administration’s purported plan to repaint public basic schools in the colours of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Reports had suggested that the government intended to repaint existing public basic schools from brown and yellow to blue and white, sparking concerns over the use of public resources for political purposes.

However, the Ministry of Education clarified that the initiative was solely for newly constructed basic schools and that there were no plans to change the uniforms in all public schools.

In a statement, Dr. Apaak urged the government to prioritize addressing pressing issues facing the education sector, such as the lack of access to furniture for over a million public basic school pupils and delays in the release of capitation grants.

He emphasized that resources should be allocated to tackle challenges such as infrastructural deficits, lack of textbooks, inadequate security, unpaid utility bills, and other issues affecting teaching and learning in public basic schools.

“According to the Head Teacher, basic school administrators are struggling to manage the affairs of schools, because of inadequate funding, neglect and delay in the releases of the capitation grants, etc.

“These are issues Hon. Yaw Adutwum should be worried about, not the colours of school blocks and school uniforms. Spending public time and resources painting schools in Blue and White, and introducing Blue and White uniforms are clearly misplaced priorities.

“Besides the overt attempt to brand public basic schools in NPP colours, the only other reason is to create an avenue to award sole sourced contracts to families, friends, and party members,” he wrote in a statement.

Dr. Apaak criticized the government for considering repainting schools and introducing new uniforms when there were more urgent needs to address in the education sector.

He called on Ghanaians to join in resisting what he described as a “needless initiative” and urged the Ministry of Education to prioritize addressing the challenges facing public basic schools.

Former Ejisu MP’s campaign team cautions NPP against voter intimidation ahead of by-election

The campaign team of former Ejisu MP, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of planning to use state security and vigilante groups to intimidate voters in Mr Aduomi’s stronghold ahead of the by-election.

They also allege that the NPP intends to engage in various illicit activities, including bribing electoral officers, orchestrating power outages during vote counting, ballot box stuffing, and transporting unqualified Senior High School students to vote.

The team expressed concerns over the NPP’s continued labelling of Mr. Aduomi as a National Democratic Congress-sponsored candidate.

Campaign Coordinator for Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, Isaac Boafo, made these allegations during a press briefing in Ejisu on Friday, April 26, stating their readiness to defend the integrity of the ballot.

“We have convened this morning to address the alarming and reckless behaviour exhibited by Chairman Wontumi, the NPP, and certain government officials leading up to the Ejisu by-election. It is with grave concern that we bring to light the nefarious schemes concocted by the NPP in their bid to manipulate Tuesday’s by-election.”

“We issue a stern warning to the NPP that we will fiercely defend our ballots with every fibre of our being. Despite their desperate attempts to subvert the democratic process, Ejisu will stand firm and resolute on Tuesday.”

Campaign activities in the Ejisu Constituency have escalated as parties vie for constituents’ support ahead of Tuesday’s by-election. Six candidates from the NPP, CPP, LPG, and three Independent Candidates are contesting in the upcoming election.

    Find below the full statement

Ladies and gentlemen of the press,

We have convened this morning to address the alarming and reckless behaviour exhibited by Chairman Wontumi, the NPP, and certain government officials leading up to the Ejisu by-election. It is with grave concern that we bring to light the nefarious schemes concocted by the NPP in their bid to manipulate Tuesday’s by-election.

Among the diabolic plans orchestrated by the NPP are:

    1. Ballot box stuffing, a blatant attempt to undermine the integrity of the electoral process.

    2. Allegations of bribing Electoral Commission officials to compromise on voting day, a despicable act that strikes at the heart of democracy.

    3. Utilization of military personnel to intimidate strongholds of Hon Owusu Aduomi, a clear abuse of power aimed at suppressing the will of the people.

    4. Deployment of police officers from different regions to seize control of ballot boxes, a flagrant violation of electoral norms.

    5. Threats of power outages during vote counting, a cowardly tactic to sow confusion and undermine transparency.

    6. Utilization of macho men to forcibly snatch ballot boxes from New sites and smaller towns, a brazen assault on the sanctity of the electoral process.

    7. Transporting over 500 SHS students to vote in an attempt to manipulate the outcome of the election, a shameful exploitation of young voters.

    8. Admission by NPP leadership at a critical meeting of their intention to resort to electoral fraud, demonstrating a blatant disregard for democratic principles.

    9. Unfounded attempts to tag Hon Owusu Aduomi as an NDC sympathizer to incite discord among constituents, a baseless and malicious tactic.

We issue a stern warning to the NPP that we will fiercely defend our ballots with every fibre of our being. Despite their desperate attempts to subvert the democratic process, Ejisu will stand firm and resolute on Tuesday.

Furthermore, we condemn in the strongest terms the wasteful expenditure of state resources for vote buying. It is reprehensible that such resources are not allocated to address the pressing challenges facing our community.

Ejisu will make a resounding statement on Tuesday, reaffirming our commitment to democracy and justice.

NPP knows that their candidate stands no chance in this by-election and for which reason they have resorted to telling wicked lies and digging dirt on Hon Owusu Aduomi.

The pinnacle of deceitfulness lies in the NPP’s audacious claim that the Bonwire market project, personally financed by Hon Owusu Aduomi, is somehow a Middle Belt Development Project. Let us set the record straight: Middle Belt market projects are not under the purview of Members of Parliament; they are typically awarded to contractors through formal procurement processes.

It is essential to note that when Hon Owusu Aduomi concluded his tenure in parliament, the Bonwire market project was merely at its foundation stage. However, his unwavering dedication to the welfare of his constituents compelled him to allocate substantial financial resources towards its completion.

To insinuate that this project falls under the umbrella of Middle Belt Development Projects is not only misleading but a deliberate attempt to diminish Hon Owusu Aduomi’s significant contributions to the community. It is a disservice to the constituents of Bonwire and Ejisuman and a blatant distortion of the truth.

The facts speak for themselves: Hon Owusu Aduomi’s personal investment and tireless efforts have propelled the Bonwire market project and others within the constituency towards fruition, benefiting the local economy and enhancing the livelihoods of countless individuals.

Let us not be swayed by political rhetoric or manipulated narratives. The truth prevails, and we must acknowledge and honour Hon Owusu Aduomi’s genuine commitment to community development.

    Thank you.

Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is super – NPP sympathiser based in US

An NPP sympathizer based in the United States, Daddy Fred, has praised NDC running mate Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

He commended her performance during her outdooring address on April 24, 2024, describing it as great and commendable. He also noted that the entire event demonstrated the NDC’s seriousness in seeking to regain executive power.

“In fact, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Mahama‘s running mate is super, she has wowed me, the woman is so great.

“The NDC people are very serious. What is coming is no joke. I want to commend her a lot, I commend her. My name is Daddy Fred,” he said in a video sighted by GhanaWeb.

Daddy Fred, known for his support of Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong, has previously shared exclusive interviews with the MP on his Facebook page, The Announcer Newspaper.

Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang delivered her speech at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), during her formal announcement as the running mate to NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama for the 2024 presidential elections.

The event was well-attended by NDC leaders, including Mahama, his wife Lordina, the party’s National Chairman, General Secretary, numerous lawmakers, and executives from across the country, as well as hundreds of supporters.

Naana Jane’s selection as Mahama’s running mate marks their second consecutive partnership following their unsuccessful 2020 bid.

In her speech, she urged NDC supporters to make every effort to reclaim power from the NPP, criticizing the government’s management of affairs since 2017.

Free SHS students return gari they take from home due to abundance of food – NPP member

A member of the communications team for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Vera Wiredu, has praised the impact of the Free Senior High School policy led by President Akufo-Addo’s administration.

During an appearance on TV3’s New Day program, she highlighted that the policy has exceeded its social intervention objective.

Madam Wiredu pointed out that students who previously had to bring gari to school no longer need to do so because they are well-fed under the policy.

“His Excellency Nana Addo, compassionate, visionary and result-oriented Bawumia, they said whether you are rich, whether you are poor, you are a Ghanaian, go to school; everything is free.

“All you do is get your chop box, the gari is not even compulsory because you are being fed three hot meals a day.

“So, if you go you don’t need gari. I have children, not necessarily personal or biological children in Free Senior High, they take gari and return the gari home,” she stated.

In a comparison between the NPP and the opposition National Democratic Congress, Vera Wiredu highlighted the NDC’s track record of poor governance, stating that they do not deserve to return to power.

She reiterated the NPP’s stance that the NDC’s call for a review of the Free Senior High School policy indicates a clear intention by the opposition to cancel the policy if they come into power.

  • Biased opinion exposed – NPP member takes on Randy Abbey for comments on Ghana’s debt

Biased opinion exposed – NPP member takes on Randy Abbey for comments on Ghana’s debt

An outspoken member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Patrick Kwarteng Sarpong, commonly known as P.K. Sarpong, has criticized Dr. Randy Abbey, the host of Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, for his response to the Danquah Institute’s debt analysis.

Sarpong described Abbey’s outbursts as stemming from ignorance and an empty display of sentiments. Abbey had reacted to the policy think tank’s analysis of Ghana’s debt accumulated between 2009 and 2023.

Randy Abbey said, “Danquah Institute, NPP has managed Ghana’s debts better. You guys just can’t help getting people upset and angry every day. And I read the analysis. I couldn’t just believe the level of intellectual dishonesty in this analysis that has been made. Even in the face of DDEP (Domestic Debt Exchange Programme), you have the nerves to speak like this.”

In a letter addressed to Randy Abbey, P.K. Sarpong clarified that the Danquah Institute’s analysis, presented during its engagement with the media, focused on Ghana’s debts accumulated between 2009 and 2023, highlighting which political party effectively utilized the loans contracted.

Sarpong emphasized that the Danquah Institute based its analysis on data obtained from credible sources such as the Bank of Ghana, the Ministry of Finance, and international bodies like the World Bank and the IMF.

He reiterated that the Danquah Institute, like other think tanks, comprises well-educated individuals and has the right to freedom of speech, choosing to express its views on matters of national significance.

“Lack of respect and appreciation of data from you, Randy Abbey, a supposed colleague is quite perplexing. You should question with data and not sentiments laced with attacks with the view to gagging the institute,” portions of the letter read.

P.K. Sarpong told Abbey in the letter that “retorts like those from you just expose the biased opinion you now profess. You simply betrayed your ignorance for someone who professes to hold a Ph.D.”

He stated that, contrary to Abbey’s ignorance and that of his colleagues in the NDC, the Danquah Institute’s analysis was based on facts and data. Sarpong highlighted that if intellectual dishonesty were a person, then Randy Abbey would epitomize it.

“Ghana’s economy, just like many others across the globe, was plunged into an economic depression due mainly to COVID-19 and the raging war in Ukraine, between 2020 and 2022. The onset of the Covid-19 pandemic precipitated the shutdown of economies, disrupted revenue streams, and exacerbated public debt burdens via high shipping costs, an increase in crude oil prices, amongst others,” he stated in the letter.

To demonstrate the impact of high shipping costs during the pandemic, he analyzed the Freightos Baltic Index (FBI) Global Container Freight Index, which measures shipping costs on major routes worldwide.

Comparing data from February 2020 to September 2021, he highlighted a significant surge in the index, increasing by eightfold. In February 2020, shipping costs per container were approximately $1300.

However, by September 2021, this figure had skyrocketed to a peak of around $11,000.

“Increases in shipping cost had widespread implications on consumer prices, primarily by impacting import prices directly. This is because the local prices of imported goods tend to rise proportionately with the increasing shipping costs. Inflation skyrocketed as a result of these factors,” he stated.

“In this respect, since the reserves we had as a country were not able to meet the demand, it automatically made the Dollar quite expensive to acquire, driving it upwards as the local currency tumbled. This is basic and a whole Ph.D. holder fails to grasp? Strange!,” he indicated.

He explained that the Danquah Institute’s use of the US Dollar in its analysis, instead of the Ghana Cedi, was deliberate. This choice was based on the US dollar’s status as the world’s primary reserve currency and its widespread use in international trade. He further noted that the US dollar is recognized for its stability, maintaining its unit of account and purchasing power consistently over extended periods.

“Another important takeaway from Danquah Institute’s analysis is that foreign currency debt carries an exchange rate risk. This implies that the debt stock in local currency terms could even rise with no new borrowings,” he mentioned.

He pointed out that, for instance, the public debt of $29.2 billion in 2016 would now be equivalent to about GHc380 billion without any additional borrowing.

Therefore, he argued that suggesting the current government had borrowed more than any other administration and had increased the debt from around GHS140 billion to about GHC610 billion is disingenuous.

He reiterated that Akufo-Addo had borrowed almost the same amount of money as Mahama but had achieved more with his borrowing than his predecessor.

He said, “The reasons for the rise in the debt levels have been explained vividly. Update yourself on these facts and stop your emotional outbursts and attacks on Danquah Institute. DI spoke with facts. Bring your facts and let us compare them. The truth is that there are no other facts to these issues apart from what DI employed in its analysis”.

He also outlined information on the strength of the Cedi as against the US Dollar and the percentage increases between the two main political parties.

    “This data is from the Bank of Ghana. Interbank Exchange: BoG, 2008 – 1.2, 2016 – 4.2, 2017 – 4.4, 2018 – 4.8, 2019 – 5.5, 2020 – 5.7, 2021 – 6, 2022 – 8.5, 2023 – 11.8, 2024 – 12.74 (March),” he pointed out.

“Your NDC took the Ghanaian Cedi from 1.2 to the dollar. At the time Mahama was leaving office, it was 4.2. In nominal terms, this translates into about a 250% increase.

“Akufo-Addo took it from 4.2 to 12.7, translating to about 202%. This simply means that in the management of the local currency as against the US Dollar, the NPP administration has done far better than the NDC despite the unprecedented challenges the economy has faced as a result of extraneous factors (COVID-19 and Russia/Ukraine conflict),” he added in the letter.

K.P Sarpong further emphasized that the NDC never faced a quarter of the challenges the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration had encountered, yet the currency had been managed better by this administration than Mahama did.

“If honesty was a trait you hold dear, you’d come to appreciate and admit to the fact that the data supplied by Danquah Institute cannot be controverted. Your people failed Ghana even when the global economic conditions were favourable,” he stressed.

On her part, the Executive Director of the Danquah Institute (DI), Dr. Antoinette Tsiboe-Darko, criticized Randy Abbey’s critique, describing it as emotionally driven and lacking a clear understanding of the facts and figures presented by the Institute.

She emphasized that the DI’s analysis was based solely on an examination of the country’s debt situation. Dr. Tsiboe-Darko urged Abbey to conduct thorough research before making judgments.

She reiterated that the Danquah Institute remains steadfast in its conviction that a thorough examination and discussion of facts, supported by rigorous research and data, are essential in providing the citizens of Ghana with enhanced clarity, information, and context regarding pertinent national issues.

Dr. Tsiboe-Darko added that through DI’s commitment to evidence-based discourse, it aims to foster a more informed and enlightened public discourse that promotes transparency, accountability, and progress in Ghana’s socio-political landscape.

  • Our returning officers are not NPP members – EC

Our returning officers are not NPP members – EC

The Electoral Commission (EC) has refuted former President John Mahama’s allegations that it employed New Patriotic Party members as returning and deputy returning officers for the 2024 election in December.

The EC stated that the recruitment process for these roles was not only public but also conducted openly, fairly, and transparently.

According to a press statement, the Commission published a vacancy announcement in the Daily Graphic on February 5, 2024, and received a total of 20,561 applications.

“An in-house Committee was established to shortlist suitable applicants to be interviewed. For the information of the general public, all successful applicants at the interview have no less than 8 years of working experience with the Commission as Temporal Election Officials.”

“The allegation by former President Mahama that Ministers and DCEs were asked “to write the names of party apparatchiks and present them so that they would be appointed as the returning officers” IS NOT TRUE. The Commission rejects this unfounded allegation coming from the former President,” the statement read.

Following former President John Mahama’s interview at the London School of Economics and Political Science, where he accused the government of politicizing the Electoral Commission, the EC has called on all stakeholders to communicate and disseminate information accurately and responsibly in this election year.

“As a Commission, we reaffirm our commitment to spearheading transparent, credible, and fair elections – upholding the highest standards of integrity as we commit to protecting the sanctity of Ghana’s electoral process.”

EC denies Mahama’s allegations of appointing NPP members as returning officers

Electoral Commission (EC) has refuted allegations made by National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, regarding the appointment of Returning Officers for the 2024 polls.

During a recent interview at the London School of Economics and Political Science, Mr. Mahama accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of appointing its members to the EC and expressed concerns about the EC’s impartiality in the upcoming elections.

He alleged that the election management body had requested MPs and DCEs to disclose the names of NPP members during the recruitment of Returning Officers and their deputies.

However, Fred Tetteh, the Deputy Director of Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation, rebuffed these claims in a statement dated April 25. He criticized Mahama for condemning a practice he had employed during his term.

The EC clarified that the recruitment process for Returning Officers and their Deputies was conducted fairly and transparently, countering Mahama’s assertions.

“Per the attached public announcement, the Commission invited ALL interested Ghanaians to apply for the positions of Returning Officers and Deputy Returning Officers. The allegation by former President Mahama that Ministers and DCEs were asked ‘to write the names of party apparatchiks and present them so that they would be appointed as the returning officers’ IS NOT TRUE.

“The Commission rejects this unfounded allegation coming from the former President. The process of recruiting Returning Officers and their Deputies was conducted in an open, fair, and transparent manner. Following the publication of the vacancy announcement in the Daily Graphic on the 5th of February 2024, the Commission received a total of 20,561 applications.

“An in-house Committee was established to shortlist suitable applicants to be interviewed. For the information of the general public, all successful applicants at the interview have no less than 8 years of working experience with the Commission as Temporal Election Officials,” the statement said.

Outdooring Prof. Naana Jane doesn’t change anything – NPP loyalist Ellen Daaku

Ahead of Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang’s introduction as the running mate of the National Democratic Congress for the 2024 presidential election, Ellen Ama Daaku, a failed Women Organiser aspirant of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), expressed skepticism regarding the significance of the appointment.

Daaku questioned the attention surrounding Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s nomination, arguing that her previous selection as the running mate to former President John Dramani Mahama in 2020 had little impact on the election outcome.

She suggested that the same would hold true for the upcoming December 7, 2024, polls.

“My issue this morning is that I believe we have a lot of things to discuss in this country.

The NDC as I said, they are not ready for this election. If they were, there are other pressing matters with their campaign and getting themselves ready, not outdooring somebody you outdoored four years ago; it did not make an impact.

“You announced her three months ago, it has not made any impact. In fact, it was after that announcement that the famous statement by Kwesi Ahwoi came, you have not addressed that and you are going for another outdooring,” she said.

During her inaugural address following her introduction by the NDC on Wednesday night, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang accused the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government of pushing Ghana towards the brink of collapse.

She highlighted corruption as a prevalent issue under the current administration and emphasized the NDC’s commitment to holding those responsible accountable.

“John and I have agreed, that whoever has participated in the plunder of the state must be held accountable.

“This is not a threat; it is a promise, premised on the wishes of our citizens across the various political and social divides, and hinged on the principle of accountability,” she stated.

Just 3 people left, not 6,000 – Hopeson Adorye on deflecting M4C members to NPP

Director of Special Duties for the Movement for Change, Hopeson Adorye, has disputed assertions that six thousand members of the movement have switched allegiance to the ruling New Patriotic Party.

He stated that, to his knowledge, only three individuals have defected.

“Only three people have left. I am challenging them to provide data for the six thousand they are claiming. It is true they were reaching out to people to join them but they all turned them down.

I am telling you that I can provide some of them to come to your studio and speak. They called people to come, and they all turned them down.

Alfred Ababio Kumi, a former NPP parliamentary candidate for Adenta who had previously joined the Movement for Change, held a press conference on Monday, April 22, 2024, to announce that he is leading six thousand members back to the NPP.

Kumi stressed that his group acknowledged their error in leaving the NPP and expressed renewed support for the party and its flagbearer in the upcoming 2024 general election.

However, Hopeson Adorye disputed this claim, stating that there is no evidence to support the assertion that the Movement for Change, led by Alan Kyerematen, lost six thousand members.

“Six thousand from where? If you claim six thousand have defected, you must have data to prove it. They are very aware that Movement for Change engages in a voluntary recruitment process through our website, www.alankyerematen.com.

“We have so far recruited over a million people who joined the movement voluntarily,” he stated.

  • 90% of the cost for AMERI plant was paid by Akufo Addo – Saaka Salia

90% of the cost for AMERI plant was paid by Akufo Addo – Saaka Salia

A member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) communication team, Saaka Salia, provided reasoning behind President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s decision to relocate and rename the African and Middle East Resources Investment Group Plant (AMERI Plant).

During an interview on GHOne TV on April 22, 2024, Salia asserted that although the AMERI plant was established and inaugurated during the John Dramani Mahama administration, it was the Akufo-Addo government that primarily financed the plant.

He stated that while the Mahama government contributed only 10% of the plant’s cost, the Akufo-Addo administration covered approximately 90% of the project’s expenses, eventually leading to the country’s full ownership of the plant.

“… Let Ghanaians understand that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo paid for the AMERI. John Mahama didn’t use his money to pay for it and Nana Addo didn’t also use his money to pay for it. But the NPP government paid 90% of the AMERI deal because it was BOOT (Build, Operates, Own and Transfer).

“So, the AMERI that they said is their project… at the end of the day, you went and hired it and the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government paid 90% of the AMERI price. Because it was commissioned in 2016, you only paid for one year, the rest of the four years were paid by the Akufo-Addo regime,” he said.

The NPP communicator mentioned that the Akufo-Addo government chose to relocate the AMERI plant for strategic advantages.

“Once it is the property of Ghana, we should not let it be here and rot. Let us make the maximum use of it. Then we decided to take six of the turbines and then we sent them to Kumasi. And that is the first time that we have such a plant in Kumasi.”

We feed you but you can’t think, you greedily grab everything – Martin Kpebu slams corrupt politicians

Private legal practitioner Mr Martin Kpebu has blamed the major political parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Ghana’s economic predicament and the slow growth of development.

According to him, these political parties have managed to condone the activities of corrupt politicians that have an adverse effect on the country.

In an interview on TV3’s The Key Point, he noted that greed has poisoned the souls of politicians who are provided all that they need from taxpayers’ monies.

“Both parties, you all just bad. That is the plain truth. Ghana should have been far far better than it is today. We give you all the resources, and freebies, and you get the best food, accommodation, fuel, so many things for free yet you can’t think. You have become excessively greedy grabbing everything, left, right Centre, hands and legs.

“That is where the main problem is Corruption. It is the corruption that politicians have an insatiable appetite for the public wealth,” he said.

I know ‘dumsor’ will end by month’s end – Bawumia spokesperson

Economic Advisor and Spokesperson for the Vice President, Dr. Gideon Boako, has provided reassurance to Ghanaians regarding the ongoing power cuts (dumsor) across the nation.

He expressed strong optimism that the electricity challenges currently faced by the populace will be resolved by the end of this month.

“The information I have and from where I sit, I know the power cuts are likely to end by the end of this month,” he said on Peace FM’s morning show “Kokrokoo.”.

However, the Spokesperson for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia expressed deep concern about the inconsistent power supply experienced by communities nationwide.

Dr. Boako criticised the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for its failure to provide consumers with a timetable to assist them in planning their daily activities.

He emphasised the importance of transparent information for citizens to prevent damage to their goods and unnecessary expenses.

Dr. Boako lamented the challenges faced by Ghanaians due to the irregular electricity supply, underscoring the need for improved communication from utility providers.

“Ghanaians need concise, explicit communication,” he insisted, adding, “we should be able to tell people that this is the problem and by this time, by this date, the problem will be solved.”

  • Say bye to 2024 with this rubbish – NPP communicator fumes over hike in Ghana Card fee

Say bye to 2024 with this rubbish – NPP communicator fumes over hike in Ghana Card fee

Managing Editor of ABCNews, Gordon Asare-Bediako, has condemned the recently announced hikes in fees and charges for obtaining or replacing a Ghana Card.

Asare-Bediako, who doubles as a communication team member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), minced no words as he lambasted the government for what he perceived as an unjust burden on the citizens.

According to him, the Ghanaian populace has committed no offence warranting such treatment.

He expressed dismay at the new charges, emphasising the hardships citizens endure to obtain the Ghana Card, only to face exorbitant fees for replacements. “What crime have Ghanaians committed?” he questioned.

Asare-Bediako directed his criticism specifically at the NPP, cautioning that their actions could cost them in the upcoming 2024 elections.

He urged Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is also the NPP’s flagbearer, not to jeopardise his chances by ignoring the grievances of the people.

Drawing attention to the disconnect between the leadership and the grassroots, Asare-Bediako emphasised the urgency of addressing the issue.

“Sometimes when we speak, our leaders argue that when issues arise, we need to take our time. We are also on the ground and hear about things that are going on.

“I witnessed this on Saturday and the way people are angry. For the new charges, if President Akufo-Addo himself were to make an announcement, I would expect Dr. Bawumia to also issue a counter-announcement.

“What crime have Ghanaians committed? People struggled greatly to register for this Ghana Card, and perhaps by mistake, some have misplaced it. And yet, you’re discussing such high charges. What kind of madness is this?

“Nobody can defend this rubbish. Forgive me for using harsh words, but these are the realities. Nobody can defend this rubbish, and if you guys go ahead to do this, kiss 2024 goodbye. Why?” he said on a panel discussion on Wontumi radio on April 22, 2024.

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced its intention to increase fees for registration services, starting from Wednesday, May 1, 2024.

This decision aligns with the regulations outlined in the ‘Fees and Charges’ (Miscellaneous Provision Regulations, 2023) L.I. 2481.

The fee adjustment, as outlined by the authority, will affect individuals applying for national identification cards, also known as Ghana Cards, as well as those wishing to update their existing information.

  • Truck driver is a card-bearing NDC member – NPP’s Nana B on train crash

Truck driver is a card-bearing NDC member – NPP’s Nana B on train crash

National Organiser of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, asserted during an interview on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia morning show on Monday, April 22, 2024, that the driver responsible for the accident involving a newly acquired train during a test run is affiliated with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Nana B maintained that the incident was a deliberate act of sabotage orchestrated by the opposition to tarnish the government’s reputation.

“So Kwame, won’t you talk about the new train which was being tested that had an accident because an NDC person parked a car on the tracks?” he questioned the host.

The host in response, probed whether Nana B had any evidence to prove his claim, to which he insisted that the driver who has since been convicted for his action is an NDC member.

“I am telling you that he is NDC, we also have people there, he is a true NDC member with a party card in that constituency… If you look at the way the car was parked, it was very deliberate. Do you think it is okay for the NDC to do that? Such evil mindset, that a new train has arrived and for the government to receive praise you would cause its destruction.

“The NDC is typically full of evil mindset. You listen to how happy they sound on social media. Even former President John Dramani Mahama, who is supposed to condemn such conduct, was saying he would be asking questions if he were to be president. He is not concerned about the person who caused the incident,” he submitted.

Last week, a court sentenced Abel Dzidotor, the individual responsible for the accident involving the newly imported train on the Tema-Mpakadan railway line, to six months’ imprisonment with hard labour.

Dzidotor confessed to three of the four charges brought against him, which included inconsiderate driving, unauthorised stopping, and causing unlawful damage.

The fourth charge, failure to produce a driver’s license, was disputed by Dzidotor, who asserted that his license was inside the damaged vehicle.

He has been directed to present the licence to the court by May 9, 2024, to avoid potential repercussions.

The Ghana Police Service apprehended Dzidotor for causing the accident, which occurred on April 18 during a test run of a newly imported train from Poland.

Preliminary investigations conducted by the police revealed that Dzidotor left the Hyundai truck with registration number GS 9018–20 unattended on the railway line, resulting in a collision with the train.

The accident reportedly transpired when Abel Dzidotor went to deliver cement blocks, but the truck became stuck on the rail upon his return.

Allow us to use your billboard for 2024 election campaign – NPP ‘begs’ former aspirants

The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has requested access to billboard spaces from all former presidential and parliamentary aspirants for use in the upcoming December elections.

In a statement signed by the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua (JFK), the party expressed its intention to use these billboard spaces to support its presidential and parliamentary candidates’ campaigns.

“We hereby serve notice on behalf of the party’s leadership, announcing the temporary use of your billboard spaces within your constituencies and across the country. The Party seeks to utilise these spaces to support our party’s presidential and parliamentary candidates’ campaigns.”

Former aspirants who have any reservations about the request are urged to notify the office of the General Secretary.

“You are kindly requested to notify the office of the General Secretary should you have any reservations about the use of your billboard spaces.

“We deeply appreciate your consideration and collaboration in this endeavour, as we collectively strive to ensure the success of our campaign,” the statement added.

The “babies” you claim to have taken have no influence on their parents, much more voters – NAWSAC tells NPP

The Nationwide Supporters of Alan Cash (NAWSAC) have strongly criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for allegedly attempting to bribe youth to abandon their support for Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change and join the NPP.

In a statement released on Monday, April 22, 2024, NAWSAC expressed concern over the NPP’s underhanded tactics and urged the youth not to be swayed by financial inducements.

The group’s convener, Luther-King Junior, emphasized that young people are disillusioned with the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over their manipulative behavior and are determined to stand by their convictions in supporting Alan Kyerematen’s leadership.

NAWSAC also expressed shock at the NPP’s belief that they have made progress in persuading young people with money, calling it a sign of being a laughingstock.

“If the NPP thinks they have made any iota of progress then indeed they must be a laughing stock because the babies they claim to have pulled with money, have zero influence at the edge of the gutters of our structures. They don’t even have the mettle to convince their own parents much more the Ghanaian voter,” a part of the statement read.

The group further highlighted that the youth will no longer allow the NPP and NDC to take them for granted. They urged the political apparatus to recognize their ignorance in thinking that their roles in poster-sticking and noise-making are substantial enough to undermine the revolution.

  • You have no right to call Mahama incompetent – Former UTAG President drags NPP over ‘dumsor’

You have no right to call Mahama incompetent – Former UTAG President drags NPP over ‘dumsor’

Former President of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), Professor Charles Ofori Marfo, has criticized the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), describing them as “incompetent.”

His criticism came amid a debate over the issue of ‘dumsor,’ a local term for irregular power supply.

Prof. Marfo’s remarks were prompted by recent comments from NPP representatives who labeled their opponents in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by former President John Mahama, as incompetent.

However, he argued that such accusations lacked credibility coming from a party that, in his view, had exhibited similar shortcomings.

“A few days ago, I heard their spokesperson say, incompetent Mahama. It sounds so bitter to me because they have exhibited the same incompetence…a pot shouldn’t tell charcoal that it’s black…when it comes to this particular issue (incompetence), they (the NPP) have no grounds to call Mahama that because they have failed,” oyerepaonline.com quoted him to have said in an interview on April 18, 2024.

Discussing the issue of erratic power supply, Prof. Marfo claimed that the NPP had not adequately tackled the problem during their time in office.

He noted that during the NDC’s administration under Mahama, efforts were made to alleviate the electricity crisis, and some NPP members acknowledged improvements in power supply.

“We were in a certain trouble; we wanted our redemption, and mind you, even at the time that they came to power, if they want to be truthful to themselves, John Mahama has fixed the ‘dumsor’ problem. In fact, some of them testified,” he added.

Time isn’t on your side; reveal your running mate – Lecturer tells Bawumia, NPP

A Senior Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante, has advised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the flagbearer, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to promptly announce the running mate for the upcoming 2024 general elections.

While acknowledging the necessity for thorough and inclusive consultations before finalizing the selection, Dr. Asah-Asante stressed the urgency of the situation.

He emphasized that time is of the essence as election fervor intensifies nationwide.

In an interview with Citi News, Dr. Asah-Asante emphasized the importance of striking a balance between thorough consultation and timely action.

He cautioned against prolonged delays, pointing out the risk of facing heightened scrutiny and challenges for the chosen candidate if announced too late in the campaign.

“The party must be mindful of the fact that time is not on their side. Yes, you want to consult broadly but you can’t spend all your life on that. By now, they should be out with a candidate who has all the qualities that they want so that it doesn’t delay the campaign unnecessarily.

“If you wait, the issue is that you bring the person in, then the person now comes to face with the campaign already set in motion. People will now want to scrutinize the person, they will want to assess the person, and they will want to throw all manner of things at the person and that is the best means by which you can see how best you can shepherd your candidate and then prepare him/her for the task ahead.

“I think the delay is becoming too much. I think the party must quickly come out with a running mate.”

Meanwhile, the opposition National Democratic Congress’ flagbearer, John Mahama, has revealed Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang as his running mate for the upcoming elections.

Nothing shows Bawumia can win 2024 elections -Kwesi Pratt

Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. cast doubt on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s chances in the 2024 elections as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Nana Akomea, a member of Bawumia’s campaign team, dismissed Pratt’s scepticism during a panel discussion on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo on April 19, 2024.

Akomea challenged Pratt’s beliefs about Bawumia’s electoral prospects, citing the vice president’s leadership role in the campaign and his own confidence in Bawumia’s abilities.

Pratt, however, maintained his doubts, citing a lack of evidence supporting Bawumia’s potential victory.

Read an excerpt of their conversation below

Nana Akomea: Kwesi, don’t you believe that Bawumia can win the elections?

    Kwesi: I haven’t said that.

Nana Akomea: But don’t you believe?

Kwesi: Do you believe it yourself?

Nana Akomea: If not, why would I be working for him?

Kwesi: What work are you doing?

Nana Akomea: The work that I am doing for Bawumia. I am working as a national campaign vice chairman.

Kwesi: Okay, but people become campaign chairman and still fail.

Nana Akomea: Failure is different from belief, Kwesi. For me, I believe that he can win. That doesn’t mean that I am the only person that votes. But for you, don’t you believe that he can win?

Kwesi: I haven’t seen anything that shows that he can win. There is nothing that I have seen that indicates or shows that he can win.

Bawumia supporters refute statement warning Ken Agyapong for supposed backing of Alan

President of Bawumia Must Win (BMW), a pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) group, David Gyasi Boako, has refuted the authenticity of a letter circulating on social media.

The purported letter, allegedly from BMW, purportedly criticises Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, for his apparent backing of Alan Kyerematen, an independent presidential candidate in the upcoming 2024 elections.

“I have seen the statement, and I was shocked about the contents, so I called my secretary, Sir Obama, to confirm if he had written anything of that nature.

When I called him, he was surprised and asked for those behind such false information because this is the sixth time something of this nature has happened,” he said in an interview on Oman FM on April 19, 2024.

The now-discredited statement accused Kennedy Agyapong of undermining the NPP by supporting the activities of Alan Kyerematen, who had resigned from the party to contest as an independent candidate.

It criticised Agyapong’s media outlets for broadcasting an event where Kyerematen and other political groups gathered to form an alliance, labelling it a betrayal to the NPP and its flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The statement called on the NPP National Executives to ensure that party resources were not used to promote Kyerematen’s activities and urged them to call Agyapong and others aligned with the Movement for Change to order.

However, Gyasi Boako denied the authenticity of the letter, stating, “We want to plead with the public that we have no idea about the said letter, and we haven’t written any letter. We are aware that Dr. Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong are living peacefully.”

Vote them out! : Six economic atrocities of the NPP govt – Dr Kofi Amoah outlines

Renowned Ghanaian economist Dr Kofi Amoah has offered his perspective in response to the criticism leveled by Parliament’s Majority Leader, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, against the potential return of former President John Dramani Mahama.

During a press briefing held in parliament on April 19, 2024, Afenyo-Markin, also the Effutu Member of Parliament, raised doubts about Mahama’s capacity to introduce innovation and vision to Ghana.

He implied that Mahama’s re-election might lead to complacency and internal party discord.

However, Dr. Amoah took to social media on April 20, 2024, to counter these assertions, challenging the ruling party’s stance.

He underscored the current administration’s economic track record, citing issues such as fiscal insolvency, escalating debt, inflationary pressures, currency depreciation, surging unemployment rates, and pervasive corruption as grounds for the NPP government’s perceived failure and the necessity for a change in leadership in the upcoming 2024 general election.

“Listen to the insensitive arguments by the NPP to be allowed by the ‘Suffering Citizens’ of Ghana to remain in power.

“Here’s their record: Bankrupt economy, largest debt, highest inflation, worst cedi, highest joblessness, corruption. Vote them out pls,” he posted.

This exchange comes amid the ongoing debate over Ghana’s leadership and the direction of its economic policies as the nation approaches a crucial election in December 2024.

Alan Kyerematen, Leader of the Alliance for Revolutionary Change (ARC), has provided details about how he was appointed as Ghana’s ambassador to the United States of America (USA) years back.

He disclosed that, despite being the first minister appointed by the erstwhile John Agyekum Kufuor administration, he initially declined the ministerial position, asserting his preference for a behind-the-scenes role in the administration.

“When he (Kufuor) became president, I was the first person he appointed a minister and I was bold to tell him that I don’t need your appointment.

“I was working with the UN before helping you to become president. Give it to those who are looking for posts so that we will sit back and watch and correct you when you go wrong,” onuaonline.com quoted him to have said in an interview on Onua FM on April 19, 2024.

Kyerematen served as Ambassador of Ghana to the United States of America from 2001 to 2003.

Kyerematen explained that President Kufuor, keenly aware of his capabilities, was determined to secure his services for the betterment of his administration.

“He then pleaded with me that if I didn’t want the ministerial position, I should take the role of the US Ambassador because if he didn’t get a competent person to hold that position, it would greatly affect his administration and he had to really plead through my wife and family before I accepted,” he disclosed

Alan Kyerematen the former ambassador, also served as Trade and Industry Minister under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration before pursuing his presidential dream under the banner of Alliance for Revolutionary Change (ARC) in the 2024 elections.

I don’t even have time to doctor videos – Opambour hits back at Owusu-Bempah

Rev. Ebenezer Adarkwa Yiadom, also known as Opambour, has responded to allegations made by Rev. Isaac Owusu-Bempah regarding tape doctoring.

Owusu-Bempah recently expressed frustration over the misrepresentation of his comments regarding Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential candidature.

He stated that edited versions of his remarks were circulating on social media platforms, portraying him as opposed to Bawumia’s presidential aspirations.

Identifying two individuals responsible for circulating the doctored videos, Owusu-Bempah mentioned a junior pastor of Opambour known as ‘Pastor Chief’ and a journalist with GHPage.

While clarifying that he has no personal issues with Opambour, Owusu-Bempah questioned why Opambour and his junior pastor would engage in activities that could damage his reputation.

    Opambour reacts

“You claim we have doctored your views amid other allegations. I haven’t even heard your views and I haven’t watched any videos, so go and find those that have done so.

“I actually refused to listen to your claims at all… Whatever God has told you is not my business. I don’t know who told you that (I have done anything) and I can’t explain why God told you so if He is your source of information.

“I don’t even have time to doctor someone’s views. I know nothing about it and have heard nothing about it. Chief hasn’t discussed anything with me let alone doctor whatever,” he stated in a video shared on Trends GH, a YouTube page.

La Dedekotopon primaries: President’s personal driver picks forms to contest seat

President Akufo-Addo’s personal driver, Joseph Addo, has officially entered the race for the La Dedekotopon NPP Parliamentary primary, scheduled for April 27, 2024.

Following vetting and approval by the party’s Greater Accra Elections Committee, Addo expressed confidence in his candidature, affirming his commitment to reclaiming the seat for the NPP.

“I was born and bred here in La; I have lived all my life here so I am not new in this constituency.”

Following the resignation of Dr. Gerald Joseph Tetteh, the elected parliamentary candidate for the constituency, the National Executive Committee of the NPP authorised a primary election to fill the vacancy.

In response, Solomon Kotey Niikio, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area, has submitted his nomination for the contest.

Meanwhile, Joseph Addo, who boasts over 20 years of service as President Akufo-Addo’s driver, has also thrown his hat into the ring.

Addo emphasises his contributions to the constituency’s development as part of his candidature platform.

He adds that “recently, when the party needed an office space after the destruction of the old office, I personally worked to get a new office for the party”.

Joseph Addo is optimistic about securing victory in the primary on April 27th and emerging triumphant in the main election on December 7th.

The NPP, which lost the La Dedekotopon seat to the NDC’s Rita Naa Odoley Sowah in the 2020 election, is eager to regain control of the constituency in the upcoming December polls.

I won’t join NPP until they change their way of doing things – Former Ejisu MP

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Ejisu, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, indicated that he would consider returning to the NPP if the party addressed its issues appropriately.

He made this known when he officially declared his candidacy for the upcoming by-election in the Ejisu constituency as an independent candidate on Thursday, April 18, 2024.

Mr Aduomi has accused the party of unfair treatment in the selection of a parliamentary candidate for the by-election. Mr. Aduomi expressed concerns about the NPP leadership’s handling of crucial issues related to the delegates’ album, which he believes undermines its integrity and fairness.

He also refuted claims of betraying his party.

“If I lose, there’s no problem, I will not quarrel with anybody. And I believe if they also lose, they will not quarrel with anybody, it’s elections. The people will decide, I’m not thinking of it (returning to NPP), not until they change the way they go about things, until things are put right,” he declared.

Mr Aduomi has noted that money is not the motivation behind his decision to compete in the April 30 by-election.

According to Mr Aduomi, the desire to help the people of Ejisu is what is driving him to find his way to the Chambers once again.

“I’m a civil engineer, I work. I’m not going to Parliament because I want money. If I want money I won’t go, I want to go to Parliament because I want to help my people the way I started and want to continue, it’s not about money.

Accompanied by his supporters, he filed his nomination at the Electoral Commission‘s (EC) office on Wednesday.

Speaking to the media, the former Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways expressed confidence in his chances of winning but stated that he would accept defeat if he lost.

“If I lose, I don’t care, but my people want me to continue with the good work I did, that is why they are calling for me.

This comes a few days after the Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, assured there were ongoing discussions for Mr Aduomi to rescind his decision.

Kwabena Boateng, the second Vice Chairman for the Ejisu Constituency, is running on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party in the upcoming by-election. The National Democratic Congress has opted out of the election.

NPP’s Nasara Coordinator preaches ‘skirt and blouse’ voting at Trakwa Nsuaem in 2024 elections

The Nasara Coordinator for the NPP in Trakwa Nsuaem, Western Region, Zackary Abubakari, has faced backlash from his party members for publicly endorsing the NDC’s parliamentary candidate, Issah Salifu Taylor.

During the final day of the annual Islamic ritual, Tafsr, in Tarkwa, attended by hundreds of Muslims, including the NDC candidate, Zackary openly supported Alhaji Taylor.

He urged voters to support NPP’s flagbearer, Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, in the presidential election but to vote for the NDC parliamentary candidate instead of the NPP’s MP, George Mireku Duker.

Despite the presence of the Municipal Chief Executive, Benjamin Kessie, Zackary argued that a Muslim had never represented the area in Parliament and urged the electorate to reward Alhaji Taylor with the seat.

When the NPP Nasara Coordinator, Zackary Abubakari, took the podium, he said “We have never had a Muslim MP before in this area. So, we have to ensure that this year we vote for Issah Taylor. Let’s remember the Muslims too.”

Emphasizing the importance of unity and progress, Zackary highlighted Taylor’s capability to bring positive change to the constituency.

According to the Punch newspaper, the MP for the area, Mireku Duker, who also serves as the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, is reportedly unhappy with Zackary’s declaration, considering Zackary played a significant role in his re-election in 2020.

In a video that has been widely circulated, Oquaye Jnr. is seen washing clothes for some constituents, a gesture that has sparked discussions about the lengths politicians go to in order to garner votes.

The happiest day of my life was when I left Nana People’s Party – Former Comm. Team member

A former Communication Team member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Solomon Owusu, has indicated that he relishes the day he decided to exit the New Patriotic Party.

On 25th September 2023, at 2:30 pm, Mr Owusu bowed out from the ruling party, and according to him, “I remember that day vividly because aside from the day I was born, that is the happiest day of my life.”

He likened his stay in the NPP to a slavery system.

“It’s like being in slavery. Sometimes it’s like being in a party to appease your father and mother,” he said.

According to Mr Owusu, he could no longer remember the party for what it stood for and hence had to leave. He renamed the party as “Nana People Party” suggesting that the cronies and family members of President Akufo-Addo have taken over the party.

“So when I realised that it is Nana People’s Party and not New Patriotic Party (NPP), I left. I am so happy that I left,” he said.

Performance Tracker is not a misplaced priority; we need to be accountable – NPP

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has defended the newly launched Performance Tracker, which was unveiled by the government on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

The tool is intended to enhance transparency and accountability in the implementation of infrastructure projects across the country.

Responding to criticisms suggesting that the Performance Tracker is not a priority, Asiedu Kokuro, the Deputy National Communications Director of the NPP, refuted these claims in an interview on The Big Issue on Citi TV.

He argued that it is essential to keep Ghana’s bilateral creditors, including the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF), informed about the projects the government is undertaking.

“You cannot use one or two errors to rubbish this powerful project. It’s not a misplaced priority, we need to account to the Ghanaian people. We are talking about accountability. We need to let the World Bank, IMF, World Health Organization our donor partners and other bilateral agencies who have been funding us know what we have done.

“People want to do political mischief, but if people want to do a proper critique of the project, based on critical analysis, not on conjectures or to score cheap political points, but stay focused and let us do a fair judgment analysis, I think this is a game changer for our democracy,” he said.

During the official launch of the tracker at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Oppong Nkrumah, the Minister of Works and Housing, announced that the tracker currently includes over 13,000 projects across the nation.

He emphasized that the tracker will address long-standing concerns about the accuracy and reliability of project presentations, particularly regarding the use of artist’s impressions to depict outcomes.

Subsequent to the launch of the Performance Tracker, the government admitted that 67 entries were mistakenly included in the list of projects featured on the tracker.

Madam Morrison received 152 votes, while Christopher Arthur emerged victorious with 240 votes, securing the nomination as the NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate.

    Christopher Arthur

Ben Yamoah polled 221 votes, Yawson Otoo received 168, and Joseph Afrankwa grabbed 155 votes.

Supporters of Christopher Arthur were seen jubilating following the announcement of the election results. The primary took place at a single voting center at Otabilkrom Astroturf, Agona Swedru.

Cynthia Morrison won the seat during the 2016 general elections. In the 2020 elections, she contested as the NPP parliamentary candidate and was elected for a second four-year term, garnering 30,513 votes out of a total of 59,193 valid votes cast.

However, her defeat in the recent primary marks a significant shift in the political landscape of the Agona West constituency.

“I started feeling dizzy; I thank God I am still alive” – Nyantakyi breaks down in front of Ejisu electorates

Former GFA president and candidate of the Ejisu NPP primaries, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has broken his silence after being discharged from Asokore Mampong Hospital, where he received treatment since Friday night.

It was earlier reported that Nyantakyi fell ill for failing to eat anything on Friday due to campaign activities he was involved in.

Addressing NPP Ejisu voters at the voting center on Saturday, Nyantakyi, in a video on social media, noted that he began to feel dizzy and had to be rushed to the hospital.

He further recounted that “at the hospital, they placed drips on me”.

“I thank God I am still alive,” a sobbing Nyantakyi said.

He arrived at the voting centre to cast his ballot in a race featuring nine aspirants.

As polling began, Nyantakyi was still in the hospital under observation. Upon arrival, Nyantakyi appeared weak and was assisted by a member of his team to walk.

Nine aspirants are competing to be elected as parliamentary candidates of the NPP for the upcoming by-election in Ejisu, following the death of the MP, John Kumah, in March after a brief illness.

As polling began, Nyantakyi was still in the hospital under observation. However, his team has indicated that health professionals have conducted checks and he is expected to be discharged before the end of the election.

  • VIDEO: Abronye accuses NPP Ejisu Chair of conniving with EC to rig primary

The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe Abronye, has voiced serious concerns about the ongoing voting process in the Ejisu Constituency, where his wife is a contestant in the party’s parliamentary primary.

Abronye alleges collusion between the Electoral Commission and the constituency chairman, who is also part of the election committee, to unfairly influence support in favor of a specific candidate among the nine contenders.

In a video sighted on social media, Abronye said, “When it comes to elections, nobody knows elections like me. Every election starts with zonal areas. When you start with one electoral area, you must finish and go to the next electoral area. But they tilted the thing.

“This arrangement is bad, the constituency chairman who is part of the election committee, is following a particular candidate, he is the one who did the list with the EC. He has connived with the EC.”

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is currently conducting a parliamentary primary to select a candidate for the upcoming by-election in the Ejisu Constituency. This by-election was prompted by the unfortunate passing of the Member of Parliament for the constituency, John Kumah, on March 7, 2024.

All nine aspirants for the internal poll on April 13, 2024, were cleared by the vetting committee on April 6. They had submitted their forms to contest the NPP parliamentary primary for the Ejisu constituency when nominations opened on April 2, 2024.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has scheduled the by-election for April 30, 2024.

Former Ejisu MP ‘abandons’ NPP to contest by-election as an Independent Candidate

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Ejisu, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, has announced his decision to contest the upcoming by-election as an independent candidate.

His decision comes as a result of what he perceives as the National Leadership of the NPP’s reluctance to address crucial concerns regarding the existing delegates’ album, which he believes undermines party integrity and fairness.

In a statement issued by his campaign aide, Nana Osei Bonsu, on Friday, April 12, 2024, it was revealed that Mr. Owusu Aduomi’s decision was largely influenced by the irregularities observed during the Ejisu polling station executive elections.

These irregularities, including the alleged arbitrary selection of individuals by the late MP of Ejisu, John Kumah, and the Regional Executives of the NPP, were deemed unacceptable in a democratic society.

“The genesis of this decision traces back to the tumultuous Ejisu polling station executive elections, marred by irregularities that would have been deemed unacceptable in any democratic society.

“Rather than adhering to the democratic process, the late MP of Ejisu, with the assistance of the Regional Executives of the NPP, arbitrarily handpicked individuals to fill key positions—a blatant disregard for the party’s constitution and its fundamental principles.

“Such actions have rightfully stirred vehement protests from conscientious party members and stakeholders across the nation. The issue has even found its way into the courts for adjudication, underscoring the gravity of the situation and the need for redress.

“Hon. Owusu-Aduomi’s decision to contest the by-election as an independent candidate underscores his unwavering commitment to upholding democratic values and ensuring transparency and accountability within the party. By refusing to participate in an ostensibly flawed process, he sends a clear message that integrity and fairness must prevail, even at the expense of personal political aspirations.”

Performance tracker is not for NPP but Ghana – Miracles Aboagye

The Communications Officer of the Bawumia Campaign Team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has underscored that the newly launched Performance Tracker isn’t partisan but a state resource intended for the benefit of all Ghanaians.

He clarified that unlike the Green Book used by the previous NDC government as a political tool, the Performance Tracker is a resource meant for successive administrations.

During the website launch on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Minister of Works and Housing, emphasized the tracker’s role in providing accurate presentations of infrastructure projects, moving beyond artist’s impressions.

In an interview on Asempa FM, Miracle Aboagye highlighted that the Performance Tracker, available as a website (www.performancetracker.com) and mobile app, was initiated as a project from the vice president’s office, serving as a lasting resource for Ghanaians, not just the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He stressed that the tracker addresses concerns about project presentation accuracy, particularly the use of artist’s impressions.

“The NDC government brought a Green Book. Clearly when you pick that you will know that it is a political tool. This [reference to the performance tracker] is not a Blue Book, this is a government of Ghana project. It is a state asset.

“That is why it wasn’t the NPP national executives who did the launch, it was ministers of state and staff from the Office of the Vice President that drove the project till it was launched. It was a pet project that was developed by the office of the vice president to be able to hold this. So, it is a state asset beyond the Nana Akufo-Addo government,” he stated.

NPP gov’t has worked on over 13,000 projects so far – Oppong-Nkrumah

The Minister-designate of Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, has unveiled the newly launched Performance Tracker, aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability in infrastructure projects across Ghana.

The tracker addresses concerns about project accuracy and reliability, especially regarding the use of artist’s impressions to depict outcomes.

It currently features over 13,000 projects nationwide and is an upgraded version of the Delivery Tracker introduced by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in 2020.

The Performance Tracker covers various projects, including infrastructure and service delivery initiatives, validated across all sixteen regions of Ghana. The latest data available is from June 2023, with ongoing efforts to update the tracker beyond this timeframe.

The minister-designate highlighted the user-friendly nature of the Performance Tracker, accessible through both a website and a mobile application. He emphasized the rigorous validation process, including geo-tagging and photographing projects for transparency.

The Performance Tracker is a comprehensive database that aims to ensure transparency and accountability in the execution of infrastructure projects in Ghana.

“As of June 2023, there are over 13, 000 projects across the 261 districts, across the 16 regions, across the 28 ministries that have been validated and updated on this platform.”

The platform, he added, has undergone a rigorous validation process, including geo-tagging and photographing projects for transparency.

“The performance tracker is a database that showcases the performances of the government of Ghana and it is going to show you the various projects that have been executed across the country. This database has two interfaces; a website and an application. Today the mobile phone is very powerful too and sometimes even beyond what your desktop can do.

“It showcases the performances of Ghana across the 267 districts and the 28 ministries and the 16 regions,” he added.

FLASHBACK: Gov’t not fulfilling promises embarrassing, ask the people in charge – Nana Akomea

Managing Director of the State Transport Company, and former Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea, last year expressed embarrassment over being confronted with past promises made by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that remain unfulfilled.

During an interview on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana in June 2022, when host Randy Abbey questioned him about his feelings regarding these unfulfilled promises, Akomea admitted, “Absolutely; it’s embarrassing”, emphasizing that these were not mere propaganda but commitments the party had pledged to fulfill.

Akomea elaborated on his discomfort, stating, “I mean, when I come and sit here, and you play pronouncements that have been made, I am embarrassed because these are not propaganda; these are things we said we’d do.”

He also noted that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) could be held to similar standards, suggesting a pattern of unmet promises across parties.

Akomea however, distanced himself from personal accountability for the party’s promises, explaining that specific individuals in charge of various sectors should be questioned.

“It’s a very simple explanation: you have to ask those who are in charge, because the things that we said we’ll do, there are sectors and there are people in charge,” he said.

Recounting an incident where he was personally held accountable, Akomea shared, “You know, somebody sent me something [clip] last week and I laughed. He said: ‘Nana Akomea said the government was going to pay rent and now we can’t find him; we’ll do aluta against him because we can’t pay our rent’.”

Nana Akomea clarified that such promises were made by the party, not him personally, and directed inquiries about the rent promise to the responsible ministry.

“I didn’t communicate those things on my behalf. This is what the party says it will do, so, probably, if you want to know what’s happening to the rent promise, you have to go to the ministry in charge of rent, in charge of housing,” he noted.

The interview highlights the challenges political figures face when their party’s promises come under scrutiny and the public’s demand for accountability.

NPP, NDC rule in Ghana must come to an end – Economic Fighters League

In recent times, the political landscape of Ghana has experienced a noticeable transformation, marked by prominent figures from the established political order defecting to form movements and alliances aimed at challenging the long-standing dominance of the NPP-NDC regime.

The Economic Fighters League, serving as a vigilant observer of these developments, perceives this shift as a crucial opportunity for change.

It warmly embraces the emergence of alliances dedicated to contesting the entrenched duopoly in the upcoming 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

Of particular note is the alliance between the National Interest Movement, led by Dr. Abu Sakara, and Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change. The League views this collaboration as a significant stride towards dismantling the grip of the political duopoly.

Emphasizing the power of collaboration, the group asserted that unity is the bedrock of effective change within our nation.

They stressed that solidarity and cooperation form the essential building blocks of any movement striving for transformation. By pooling resources and aligning goals, they believe we can combat corruption within the political sphere.

The group urged all Ghanaians, regardless of background or allegiance, to participate actively in shaping the country’s future.

Furthermore, the statement rallied citizens to form alliances with movements aimed at challenging the entrenched political duopoly.

Regarding the upcoming election, the group identified it as a pivotal moment to rejuvenate and reshape our nation for the benefit of future generations.

Particularly targeting the youth, the statement called for active involvement in politics to steer the course of the nation’s destiny.

The defeat of the duopoly, the group emphasized, transcends mere politics; it is a moral obligation imperative for societal advancement.
