NPP is filled with greedy people – Communications team member

A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communication Team in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, Kofi Amponsah, has expressed dismay over what he perceives as widespread greed among the top echelons of the ruling party.

Amponsah lamented that leaders within the party have succumbed to greed, prioritizing their self-interests while neglecting the welfare of dedicated party members who have little to show for their support and commitment.

Asked by the host of the Dialogdue on NET2 TV if NPP leaders are greedy, he responded, “NPP leaders are greedy. Majority of them not some of them; NPP members are very greedy. Honestly, it is a party that we don’t want to say certain matters in public but some need to be told.

“The majority are very wicked. The likes of my MP, Seyram Alhassan and Honourable Ken who will sacrifice their own to make you happy are a few. Those people are very few in the NPP but 95% [are greedy]… sometimes you are compelled to feel regret for going round and campaigning for the NPP,” he stated.

He underscored that the party is facing a challenging campaign leading up to the 2024 elections.

Factors contributing to this challenge include the current state of the economy, the perceived neglect of grassroots members by party leaders, and the choice of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the presidential candidate over Kennedy Agyapong, whom he described as the ideal choice for the party to retain power.

Despite expressing concerns about the party’s internal dynamics, Kofi Amponsah emphasized that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) remains a more viable option in terms of governance compared to the opposition National Democratic Congress and its presidential candidate, former President John Dramani Mahama.

Gideon Boako announces intent to contest for Tano North seat in NPP Primaries

Spokesperson to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Gideon Boako, has officially declared his candidacy for the New Patriotic Party’s Tano North seat.

Motivated by calls from delegates and opinion leaders, his decision is aimed at securing the seat to prevent it from falling into the hands of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Dr. Boako, in his announcement, criticized the current Member of Parliament, alleging a disconnect with constituents. He expressed his readiness to be the representative that Tano North needs.

In a press statement released on Thursday, December 21, Dr. Boako emphasized his dedicated service to the party both nationally and in the constituency.

“Dear friends, colleagues, and fellow patriots, with deep gratitude and a resolute spirit, I humbly address you today to formally announce my aspiration to serve the good people of Tano North Constituency in the forthcoming Parliamentary elections.”

“This decision stems from my enduring commitment to our constituency, driven by your unwavering support and the greater welfare of our people and nation,” an excerpt of his statement said.

Nominations opened for NPP parliamentary primaries

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is kicking off its nomination process today for potential parliamentary candidates in constituencies where the party currently has incumbent Members of Parliament (MPs).

The nomination window, concluding on December 25, 2023, precedes the final phase of the internal election slated for January 27, 2024.

A lineup of contenders, including Michael Oquaye Jnr., Roni Nicol, Hayford Siaw, Alois Mohl, and Bice Osei Kuffuor, known as Obour, has declared their intention to compete for the party’s representation in constituencies like Dome-Kwabenya, Ablekuma West, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Nandom, and Asante Akyem South, respectively.

Other aspirants, such as Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem, Commissioner of Police (retd) Alex Mensah for Bekwai, and Raphael Agyapong for Bantama, are also gearing up for the internal contest.

A focal point of interest is the Fomena constituency, where the incumbent, Andrew Asiamah Amoako, secured victory as an independent candidate after departing from the NPP. This situation sparks curiosity about the number of sitting MPs seeking re-election.

In anticipation of the nominations, a statement by the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, stressed that no aspirant should face obstacles in obtaining nomination forms. Those encountering challenges at the constituency level can acquire the forms at the regional secretariat or download them from the party’s website.

Nomination forms will be priced at GH¢3,000, accompanied by a non-refundable filing fee of GH¢35,000. Women, Persons with Disabilities, and youth (aged 18-40) will enjoy a 50% rebate on the filing fee.

Additionally, aspirants must remit a non-refundable Development Fee of GH¢40,000, with all payments made via Banker’s Draft to the NPP National Headquarters in Accra.

A National Parliamentary Appeals Committee will handle appeals from disqualified aspirants from January 10 to January 12, 2024, with the deadline for appeal submissions set for January 9, 2024.

Former NPP youth activist now siding with Alan to contest Gushegu seat

Alhaji Mohammed Abdul Latif, a former active youth activist of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Northern Region, has officially declared his candidacy for the Gusheigu constituency Parliamentary seat.

Running on the ticket of the Movement for Change, led by former Trade Minister Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten, Alhaji Latif, a political strategist, contractor, and businessman, aims to unseat the incumbent first-term Member of Parliament, Hon. Alhassan Tampuli, in the upcoming 2024 elections.

In an interview, Alhaji Latif expressed his unwavering belief in the political agenda of the Movement for Change and is confident that the electorate in Gusheigu constituency will choose him and Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten.

He asserted his readiness to confront any individual or group attempting to impede his parliamentary aspirations.

Alhaji Latif extended a call to all disenchanted supporters of both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as well as floating voters in the Gusheigu constituency, urging them to unite and support his candidacy.

In September 2023, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten, the former Trade Minister, revealed the establishment of a new political movement with the intent to participate in the 2024 Presidential election as an independent candidate.

The one-time NPP Presidential aspirant envisions the Movement for Change as a credible alternative to the dominant NPP and NDC duopoly in Ghana’s political landscape.

As an autonomous political entity, it remains uncertain whether the leadership plans to field candidates for all 275 constituencies in the parliamentary elections. However, there is already expressed interest from some individuals seeking to run for parliamentary seats under the banner of the Movement for Change.

  • 2024 Elections: Vote for Bawumia, he has the best to offer – Kofi Bentil to Ghanaians

2024 Elections: Vote for Bawumia, he has the best to offer – Kofi Bentil to Ghanaians

A fervent supporter of Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s bid for the presidency of Ghana, Kofi Bentil, has unequivocally declared that Dr. Bawumia is the most promising and suitable candidate to lead the nation.

Despite acknowledging some dissatisfaction among Ghanaians with the present government under the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bentil emphasizes Dr. Bawumia’s exceptional qualities as a presidential contender.

As an active citizen with no political affiliations, Bentil underscores his rationale for endorsing Dr. Bawumia, citing the vice president’s demonstrated integrity and the absence of corruption in his track record.

In comparison to Dr. Bawumia’s primary competitor, John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who has previously held the presidency, Bentil argues that Dr. Bawumia’s lack of prior presidential experience positions him as a fresh and promising choice.

“My activism has a political effect, but I’m not a politician. There’s a difference. I’m an active citizen.

“I chose Bawumia because, someone must run Ghana after Nana Addo and after much thought and consideration I concluded that the best and most promising person who has never been President and has proven not corrupt is better than one who has had the chance. I will respect your choice, I simply ask for the same respect,” he said.

Bentil explains that his advocacy is not driven by political motives but rather by a genuine belief in Dr. Bawumia‘s potential to lead the nation effectively.

He continued: “I understand that people are upset with this government. What I don’t understand is why they don’t realize this government is over,” he said in defence of his open support for Bawumia despite his work as a leader of a civil society organization.

He contended that offering Dr. Bawumia the opportunity to serve as president would allow him to showcase his mettle and competence, contrasting with those who have already held the position.

While acknowledging public discontent with the current government, Bentil remains resolute in his endorsement of Dr. Bawumia’s presidential ambitions.

He defended his stance by asserting that the present government’s term is coming to an end, and Dr. Bawumia represents a compelling choice for the future leadership of Ghana.

Despite leading a civil society organization, Mr Bentil continues to openly support Dr. Bawumia and calls for mutual respect for differing political choices.

  • NPP Chairman levies corruption allegations against Kissi Agyebeng

NPP Chairman levies corruption allegations against Kissi Agyebeng

Third National Vice Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Masawud Osman, has levied accusations against the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), claiming political bias and proposing a reevaluation of its effectiveness.

Alhaji Osman alleges that 60% of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) staff maintains affiliations with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), raising concerns about potential influences on prosecutions.

He censured Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, casting doubt on his impartiality and advocating for an inquiry into his suitability for the position.

Alhaji Osman additionally asserted that Agyebeng has considerably enlarged the staff of the OSP but has achieved minimal results in the fight against corruption.

He accused Agyebeng of unfairly targeting the NPP, citing the investigation into alleged irregularities at the Customs Division under the current government.

He said the focus solely on auctions from 2016 to 2022 raises questions about why similar events under the previous NDC administration haven’t been investigated.

Additionally, Alhaji Osman criticized the disparity in the OSP’s handling of allegations of vote-buying. He noted the probe launched into the NPP parliamentary primaries while no similar action was taken regarding accusations against the NDC.

  • EC’s 3pm poll closure proposal met with skepticism from NPP, NDC

EC’s 3pm poll closure proposal met with skepticism from NPP, NDC

Ghana’s two major political parties, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), are expressing reservations about the Electoral Commission (EC)’s proposal to close the 2024 elections at 3pm.

The EC, led by Chairperson Jean Mensa, has defended the decision to shift the voting closure time from 5:00 pm to 3:00 pm during the upcoming general elections.

Mensa emphasized that the adjustment is aimed at facilitating transparent and orderly collation of votes by electoral officers in broad daylight. Despite this explanation, Richard Ahiagbah, the NPP’s Communications Director, has urged the EC to ensure that the proposed change does not disenfranchise eligible voters.

In an interview with Citi FM on Thursday, December 14, he stated that the party would only accept the proposal if the Commission assured them that voters would be given the comfort they deserve and that none would be turned away.

“We receive that with some cautious optimism, to the extent that the EC can provide us with the necessary comfort that electorates would not be found wanting on the day of the election. But assuming that they provide that comfort for us, it is ideal for us to be able to close the polls early so that collation and things that need to be done to prepare results are done in daylight before dark.”

“So I think that is the import of that proposal that we first need to be sure that it will not result in people being turned away,” he stated.

Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), cautioned on Citi FM that the party would resist any attempts by the Electoral Commission (EC) to manipulate the election in favor of a particular political party. He stressed that it is premature for the party to make any comments on the EC’s position at this stage.

“For us, we welcome a response that will give Ghanaians a feeling that there’s a credible, transparent general election at the end of the day. We have resolved as a party that we are going into 2024 with full force, we are going to an election to win. Rigging that election is a great impossibility and will be resisted with all force, so it behoves on the EC to assure all political parties of a transparent election.”

He added, “That will be a big relief for this country. It’s early days yet, we will see as the conversation unfolds what our technical directors will advise the party to do, what the NPP will come up with, and what other parties will come up with.”

Leaked list of NPP big wigs eyeing for Bawumia’s running mate position

A list is currently circulating on social media, purportedly unveiling a roster of individuals eyeing for the Vice President slot within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The unverified compilation, consisting of names like Chief of Staff, Frema Opare; Roads Minister, Kwasi Amoako Atta; Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu; Energy Minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Education Minister, Yaw Osei Adutwum etc., has triggered widespread curiosity, with many Ghanaians wondering who among these names will finally end up as the running mate of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

The Chief of Staff’s name has emerged as one of the key contenders for the position. As a seasoned political figure, Frema Opare is believed to possess the potential to become the Vice President. There are also rumors from deep throat sources in the ruling New Patriotic Party that top guns in the New Patriotic Party are trying to impose her candidacy as the Vice President on Dr Bawumia.

Roads Minister, Kwasi Amoako Atta, is recognized for his role in infrastructure development in the country. Since January 2017, he’s held the position of the Roads Minister after his appointment by president Akufo-Addo. Nonetheless, there are circulating rumors suggesting that influential figures within the New Patriotic Party are attempting to advocate for his candidacy as the Vice President, potentially imposing it on Dr Bawumia.

Rumors are also rife that Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu, is also among the list of persons staunch members of the NPP are imposing on Dr Bawumia.

Ursula Owusu is a familiar face in Ghanaian politics. The inclusion of her name fuels discussions about the potential advantages her communications skills could bring to the NPP’s electoral pursuits.

As the Education Minister, Yaw Osei Adutwum’s name on the list adds an educational dimension to the speculated contenders. Ghanaians, however, are contemplating how his background in education could shape the party’s appeal in future elections.

Energy Minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, is no stranger to navigating complex portfolios. His presence on the list has ignited conversations about the possible influence of his energy sector experience on the party’s agenda.

All these names have emerged as potential candidates to support Dr Bawumia and compete against former President John Mahama and his Vice President. Although he has not made a selection yet, there are also speculations that he might go back to pick Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman.

  • Akufo-Addo’s 1D1F initiative yet to meet its objectives – Yusif Sulemana

Akufo-Addo’s 1D1F initiative yet to meet its objectives – Yusif Sulemana

The Deputy Ranking Member of the Trade and Industry Committee of Parliament, Yusif Sulemana, has held the view that the One District One Factory (1D1F) initiative has fallen short of its intended objectives.

He highlighted that the 1D1F, introduced by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, aimed to establish new factories in every district to foster employment and drive industrialization.

However, Mr Sulemana asserted that this vision has not materialized, even four to five years after the policy’s implementation.

In an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Mr Sulemana expressed concerns about the unmet goals of the 1D1F.

The initiative was intended to improve foreign reserves, create jobs, and ensure the presence of factories in all districts, but according to him, these objectives remain unrealized.

“Four to five years down the line after the implementation of the 1D1F policy, the objectives to which it was introduced had not been met. It is supposed to ensure that we improve upon our foreign reserves. It’s supposed to ensure that we have created jobs, that have not been achieved. It’s to ensure that we have factories in all the districts of this country, that has also not been met,” he said.

“When a blind man wants to throw a stone at you, he knows what his feet are on. So what we are saying to them is that the companies they have shortlisted and sent to us, many Ghanaians are complaining that they have also applied, yet because there are no criteria or selection, they have been left out. It got to a time when the system was being abused, so we suggested that we suspend the granting of tax exemptions and come up with the Tax Exemption Act.”

Mr Sulemana voiced doubts about quantifying the benefits derived from the 1D1F, despite the provision of tax waivers, alleging that the system has been subject to abuse.

He analogized the situation, stating, “When a blind man wants to throw a stone at you, he knows what his feet are on.” He criticized the lack of criteria or selection, leading to complaints from many Ghanaians who applied but were left out. Due to the perceived abuse, Sulemana recommended the suspension of tax exemptions and the establishment of a Tax Exemption Act.

He underscored the need for this tax measure, stating, “Before the enactment of this tax exemption act, we had realized that we could not even quantify the kind of benefits that we were getting as a result of granting those tax exemptions, so there was a need to put that tax in place.”

While emphasizing that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is not opposed to industrialization through the 1D1F, Sulemana raised concerns about tax exemptions not benefiting the state.

Sulemana disclosed that there is a current GH¢5.7 billion tax exemption request in Parliament, with the finance committee advocating for tax exemptions for these companies.

Additionally, he claimed that the Ministry of Finance has about GH¢7 billion in tax exemption requests, totaling GH¢12.5 billion. Sulemana expressed concern that this substantial amount could be allocated to associates under the guise of the 1D1F initiative.

He further stated, “Before the enactment of this tax exemption act, we had realized that we could not even quantify the kind of benefits that we were getting as a result of granting those tax exemptions, so there was a need to put that tax in place.”

He added, “We have been reliably informed that the Ministry of Finance has about GH¢7 billion in tax requests in the form of tax exemptions that the ministry is preparing to forward to us. When you put the two together, it’s about GH¢12.5 billion. That is what the government, and for that matter, the Ministry of Finance as well as the Ministry of Trades, are willing to give to their friends and cronies in the name of 1D1F.”

A former member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Abubakar Saddique Boniface, has affirmed his unwavering support for Alan Kyerematen’s presidential bid, expressing joy at not being ousted disgracefully from the party.

He believes the turn of events has positioned him and like-minded colleagues to intensify efforts towards their shared objective.

Speaking publicly for the first time since his dismissal from the NPP, Alhaji Boniface disclosed that numerous prominent figures within the party silently oppose certain actions, indicating that these individuals could propel Alan Kyerematen to become Ghana’s first independent president.

Despite his dismissal, Alhaji Boniface remains resolute in supporting Alan Kyerematen, citing his extensive political career, including serving as an Independent MP and NPP member. He emphasized that the setback from the NPP won’t deter his vision.

“I am not worried that I’ve been sacked from the NPP. I’ve only been reminded to go back to my roots to work independently and I would do just that but those who think politics is not about numbers should tickle themselves and laugh”, he said.

“I first contested as an Independent candidate in Salaga where I defeated both NDC and NPP to represent the constituency in Parliament and NPP begged me to join them to get a numerical strength in Parliament”, he explained.

Alhaji Boniface asserted that politics revolves around numbers, and with his followers and sympathizers also technically excluded from the party, they are prepared to mobilize support to secure Alan Kyerematen’s victory in the presidential election.

Downplaying concerns about his dismissal, he sees it as a reminder to work independently, emphasizing the importance of numbers in politics.

He recounted his political journey, from contesting as an Independent candidate to joining and contributing to the NPP’s numerical strength in Parliament.

Alhaji Boniface expressed his commitment to the Movement for Change, a new political initiative, citing the departure from the original principles of the NPP as a reason for the switch. He highlighted his significant contributions to various ministries and vowed to use his vast experience to work for Alan Kyerematen.

He concluded by urging supporters of Alan Kyerematen to unite and garner more followers to ensure the Movement’s success in forming the next government in 2025. Despite the challenges, Alhaji Boniface remains undeterred and determined to contribute to the political landscape.

During a press conference held on December 12 at her campaign office in Sege, Madam Eunice Lasi conveyed her decision, urging her supporters to remove all posters featuring NPP backgrounds.

This call follows Agyapong’s loss in the NPP’s presidential primary to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The group, led by Kwabena Yankey, cited Agyapong’s significant contributions to Ghana’s economic growth, including investments in job creation and infrastructure development, as the primary reasons for their support and belief in his suitability for the presidency.

“We the supporters of Kennedy Agyapong representing the 37 percent of the NPP delegates, wish to inform the general public that Kennedy Agyapong needs to be the next president of Ghana. We are advocating for Kennedy Agyapong and we urge him to stand as an independent candidate for a massive win in 2024.”

The details were outlined in a statement released by the General Secretary of the Party, Justin Kodua-Frimpong, on Monday, December 11, 2023.

According to the statement, the nomination process is scheduled to commence on December 20, 2023, and conclude on December 25, 2023.

Nomination forms will be available for purchase at GH¢3000, accompanied by a non-refundable filing fee of GH¢35,000 and a non-refundable development fee of GH¢40,000.

Notably, women, persons with disabilities, and youth will benefit from a 50% rebate on filing fees.

Aspiring candidates who encounter challenges accessing Nomination Forms at the Constituency level are permitted to obtain them from the Regional Secretariat or download them from the party’s official website.

The Extraordinary Constituency Delegates’ Conference is slated for January 27, 2024.

Additionally, an Appeals Committee will address appeals from disqualified aspirants from January 10 to January 12, 2024, with the deadline for appeal submissions set for January 9, 2024.

The NPP emphasizes its commitment to a free, fair, and transparent Parliamentary Primaries and ensures that detailed rules and regulations will accompany the Nomination Forms.

  • It’s problematic that NPP is pampering Adwoa Safo – Kwabena Kwakye

It’s problematic that NPP is pampering Adwoa Safo – Kwabena Kwakye

Oman FM broadcaster and board member of the Ghana National Petroleum Commission (GNPC), Great Wofa Kwabena Kwakye, has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what he perceives as the party’s failure to rein in MP for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo.

During a recent show on Oman FM, Kwabena Kwakye, formerly a staunch supporter of Adwoa Safo, pointed to instances of what he considered unprofessional behavior by the MP. This included her participation in dancing on TikTok and organizing events while important parliamentary business was ongoing.

Expressing his displeasure with the NPP, he questioned why they allowed her to continue her political career despite her behavior. Kwabena Kwakye argued that Adwoa Safo should face appropriate disciplinary measures rather than being pardoned merely because she issued an apology.

“She was in America, recording Tiktoks and organizing parties and the NPP could not call her to order? They were still entertaining her. Talking about giving her a second chance, can they predict someone’s future behaviour?,” he asked.

“That is the problem, in politics when it gets to a certain level, you should just hang up your boots. I was surprised when she wrote to the NPP general secretary. A party gave her such an opportunity and she was behaving like that. They had to come and beg her when she had to do something to benefit the party,” Kwakye lamented.

“It got to a point where even the NDC started defending her. Is the party a business? Couldn’t they discipline her? She had been MP in 2012. 2016 and 2020. Isn’t it ok? They even made her Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection. Why? Was the party mortgaged to someone?” he questioned.

Adwoa Safo’s prolonged absence from parliament in 2022 became a significant topic of discussion, sparking nationwide debate. The issue arose when she left the country after the passage of the 2022 budget on November 26, 2021.

Due to her extended absence, Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin referred Adwoa Safo to the Privileges Committee on April 4 for missing fifteen sitting days. On July 29, 2023, the president revoked her appointment based on Article 81 of the Constitution. However, on November 11, 2022, Adwoa Safo officially resumed her parliamentary duties upon her return from the United States of America.

After another absence, she returned on February 7, 2023, marking her first appearance in the House that year, where she has since remained. In September, she issued an apology to her party and constituents for her prolonged absence from parliament.

Adwoa Safo explained that personal and family challenges prompted her to leave the country after the 2022 budget was passed. She clarified that missing 15 sitting days, which led to the Speaker referring her to the Privileges Committee and the president revoking her appointment, was not intentional. She apologized for any inconvenience caused and sought forgiveness. Adwoa Safo has since resumed her parliamentary duties and has been consistently present.

Special Prosecutor cracks down on vote-buying, six culprits wanted after NPP primaries

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is in search of some individuals for their involvement in corruption-related activities especially vote-buying.

The OSP made this known in a post on X with the caption “Wanted persons: The following persons are wanted by the OSP for corruption and corruption-related offences in respect of public elections- especially vote-buying.#OSP #CorruptionAffectsYouDirectly”.

According to the OSP, the six men are wanted for allegedly engaging in vote-buying in respect of public elections. Further information, such as the identities of the suspects, was not provided by the OSP.

The post also did not specify which public elections the suspects were involved in, but it comes after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) held its primaries for orphan constituencies over the weekend.

The OSP is a specialised independent anti-corruption institution in Ghana, established in 2018, with the object of investigating and prosecuting specific cases of alleged or suspected corruption and corruption-related offences in the public and private sectors, recovering the proceeds of such acts by disgorging illicit and unexplained wealth and taking steps to prevent corruption. The OSP derives its powers mainly from the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2017 (Act 959) and other laws bearing on the suppression and repression of corruption.

Without doubt, it’s certain that NPP will surely break the eight – Deputy General Secretary

Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has conveyed a strong belief in the party’s ability to secure victory in the forthcoming 2024 general elections.

During an interview on JoyNews’ The Probe, Mr. Mohammed underscored the positive outcomes observed in the NPP primaries within orphan constituencies, interpreting them as indicative of the party’s preparedness to maintain its political dominance.

Expressing confidence in obtaining a majority of seats in the 2024 elections, he attributed this optimism to the calibre of candidates strategically chosen in constituencies without current NPP representation.

Mr Mohammed went on to laud the delegates for their pivotal role in the candidate selection process, highlighting the demonstrated competence and strong rapport with the electorate as key criteria.

Acknowledging the internal nature of the contest, he clarified that in such scenarios, there are no losers but rather a purposeful selection process.

The Deputy General Secretary’s remarks underscore the party’s unity and confidence in the candidates chosen to represent the NPP in the upcoming elections.

“There was no winner and there was no loser at the end of the polls because this is an internal contest. In an internal contest, there’s no loser; there’s a selection,” Mohammed explained.

Highlighting the imperative of internal harmony, Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, underscored the importance of unity within the party.

He urged all contestants to unite and support the selected candidates collaboratively post-competition.

Mr. Mohammed emphasised the pivotal role of national, regional, and constituency officers in fostering inclusivity and cohesion within the party. He stressed the shared responsibility of party leaders at various levels to promote a sense of togetherness.

Recognising the forthcoming elections as a critical opportunity, Mr. Mohammed articulated the party’s ambition to break the eight-year cycle and secure victory in the political landscape. His remarks highlight the significance of solidarity and collective effort within the NPP to achieve success in the upcoming political contest.

“This is our second attempt at breaking the eight, and this time around, we’re going to make it. We’re very sure of winning political power, but we need a majority in the House of Parliament, he asserted.

On Saturday, 321 aspirants vied for a slot in 111 constituencies described as ‘orphan’ because the incumbent MPs are not the reps of the NPP.

Delegates were given the mandate to select individuals who would contest the 2024 parliamentary election on the ticket of the party.

  • Flashback: Special prosecutor to prosecute who? NPP members are greedy bastards when it comes to galamsey

Flashback: Special prosecutor to prosecute who? NPP members are greedy bastards when it comes to galamsey

A recently resurfaced video features Ken Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, making predictions about the Office of the Special Prosecutor. This follows the recent public expression of frustration by the incumbent Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng.

In the video, which captures Agyapong’s appearance on Net 2 TV, the outspoken politician foretells Agyebeng’s failure to fulfil his mandate.

Agyapong attributes this predicted failure to the pervasive corruption within the ruling party, specifically highlighting issues related to illegal small-scale mining, commonly known as “galamsey.” According to Agyapong, these corruption challenges will likely impede the effectiveness of the Special Prosecutor’s efforts.

“You are going to appoint a Special Prosecutor; you see, when I point out a finger, the remaining four point back at you, NPP. You will not be able to prosecute anyone. I am speaking in parables to you,” he stated.

“There are greedy bastards in galamsey. NPP people are greedy bastards when it comes to galamsey,” he added.

Upon assuming office in 2017, the current government of the New Patriotic Party, led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, placed a significant emphasis on combating corruption.

A key component of their anti-corruption agenda during the campaign in opposition was the establishment of a Special Prosecutor’s Office dedicated to investigating and prosecuting individuals for corruption and related offenses.

However, the initial appointee to lead this office, Martin Amidu, a former Attorney-General, resigned in November 2020, citing alleged interference in his work by President Akufo-Addo. Despite the president’s denial of Amidu’s claims, Kissi Agyebeng, a private legal practitioner, was subsequently appointed to head the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

In a press conference held on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, Mr. Agyebeng expressed concerns about a concerning pattern of dismissive rulings in the corruption cases he was actively pursuing.

He went on to caution that such a trend could have severe consequences for Ghana’s ongoing anti-corruption efforts. This situation raises questions about the effectiveness and independence of the Special Prosecutor’s Office in the fight against corruption.

“Indeed I have had several calls from well-meaning lawyers admonishing me that they have heard talk that our friends who have been elevated to the bench and presiding over cases in court do not take very kindly to criticism, especially of the public calling out variety as we do.

“And that if the office persists in the media releases, the judges will gang up against the office and throw out all our cases. Mind you, members of the press, collective admonishing is from very senior and experienced lawyers who are members of the law.

“Members of the press, my learning of the law for the past 25 years in three different jurisdictions, my teaching and training of lawyers and law students for the past 17 years, my 20-year record at the bar all bear testimony that I will be the last person to lead an institution to attack the judiciary.

“It will be absolutely of no good should it be the case that the OSP is set against the judiciary or that the judiciary is against the OSP. That will surely spell disastrous consequences for this republic, especially in the fight against corruption to the glee of corrupt persons.”

Mr Agyebeng added, “I do not intend to sound as though I’m predicting doom but we are facing doom. With this development, it will not be long, before a suspected murderer or armed robber will boldly walk to court with the unthinkable prayer that the court should injunct law enforcement agencies from investigating him.”

In recognition of their efforts, Percyval rewarded them with tabletop fridges.

As the Central Regional First Vice Chairman of the NPP and a former polling station executive, Percyval organized a surprise training workshop for all Electoral Area Coordinators and Polling Station executives in KEEA.

The workshop aimed to equip them with strategies to secure victory in the upcoming elections and break the eight-year cycle.

Additionally, Percyval pledged to enhance the lives of young men and women in the community if given the opportunity to serve as a Member of Parliament. He outlined key priorities, including health, sanitation, agriculture, education, and the revitalization of the fishing industry.

“I am ever ready to be a servant for the people of KEEA to work hard to transform KEEA with my lobbying skills because I have a lot of connections and network both Ghana and outside Ghana without relying on Central Government for development,” he said.

“I work at an International Recruitment Agency that recruits youth and takes them outside the country to work. I run the first private scholarship scheme to give scholarships to youth to study abroad”, he promised.

Percyval Quaicoe made a commitment to provide opportunities, particularly for the youth, to pursue education up to the highest levels, facilitating the chance for them to study abroad.

Additionally, he pledged to enhance tourist attractions in Komenda-Edina-Eguafo, aiming to attract more investors and stimulate economic activities within the region.

2.1 million jobs have been created by the NPP in 7 years – Bawumia

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has maintained that despite the prevailing economic challenges, the government has successfully generated over 2 million jobs in the past seven years.

According to Dr Bawumia, available statistics affirm that this figure represents the highest job creation rate since the country gained independence.

Addressing the launch of a cash disbursement for beneficiaries of the YOUSTART programme in Accra, Dr. Bawumia asserted the government’s commitment to further job creation for the youth of the country.

“What is remarkable is that, notwithstanding the global economic challenges, major global economic disruptions that have taken place with regard to COVID-19 that many of you have talked about and its implications on businesses as well as the Russia-Ukraine war, notwithstanding these global challenges, our government over the last seven years has created 2.1 million jobs. This is the highest number of jobs created by any government since the Fourth Republic,” he added.

Meanwhile, a report from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) reveals that during the third quarter of 2022, one in every four young individuals aged between 15 and 24 years, equivalent to 24.2%, was not involved in education, employment, or training.

According to the Annual Household Income and Expenditure Survey 2022 Third Quarter Labour Statistics Report, this percentage corresponds to approximately 1.5 million persons within this age group.

The findings highlight a significant portion of the youth population that is not currently participating in education, employment, or training activities.

“More than half of the youth are in Accra (312,394), Ashanti (300,161), Eastern (131,341), and Central (129,182) regions. In 13 out of the 16 regions, more than 20 per cent of young persons, 15 to 24 years were not in education, employment, or training. Eastern Region (30.0%) has the highest proportion of youth, with a figure about twice that of Bono Region (14.5%) which has the lowest proportion,” GSS noted in the report.

‘How can a grown-up woman talk this way?’ – Adomako Baafi slams Ada MP for calling NPP administration useless

A former Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Adomako Baafi, has voiced criticism against Deputy Minority Whip Comfort Doeyoe Cudjoe Ghansah for her recent attacks on the NPP government.

In her capacity as the Member of Parliament for Ada, Ghansah accused the NPP administration of engaging in what she deemed “useless spending” and highlighted concerns about the government’s apparent inability to provide a transparent account of public funds.

Ghansah, an advocate for tax-free sanitary pads, expressed her dissatisfaction with the government’s financial management. She argued that eliminating wasteful expenditure could create room for important initiatives, such as providing free sanitary products to address a pressing social need.

“Ghana, if we can stop this useless spending as a country, we will be able to achieve free sanitary products. But for us, we are not correct that is why we are misusing our finances, especially this particular government, they are not correct and good because if you check the money that has passed through their hands but cannot even be accounted for, it is worrying, what do they use the money for?” the MP said.

However, in an interview on Okay FM on November 28, 2023, Adomako Baafi responded to Ghansah’s remarks, categorizing her statements as a “disgrace to womanhood.”

Baafi contended that, given her status as a woman, Ghansah should have conveyed her concerns with greater thoughtfulness and responsibility.

He stressed that her choice of words had undermined the traditional respect accorded to women in public discourse.

The former NPP Communications Director also seized the opportunity to underscore various developmental projects initiated by the NPP government. Baafi highlighted accomplishments such as the implementation of Free Senior High School (SHS) education, the Ghana card initiative, and Agenda 111, underscoring their positive impact on the Ghanaian populace.

“I am very much ashamed because, as the elders say, when things get difficult, we seek advice from women, and a grown-up woman like this talks this way? When men get angry, women mostly talk with sense to them. She is an apology to womanhood because if she can open her mouth and utter such words, then it means that she has brought disgrace to womanhood.

“I don’t know where she slept because her words were not even consistent, she was just contradicting herself…she also said that the NPP government is not reasonable and I want to let her know that unreasonable government is those that…

“Ghanaians have benefited from free SHS, Ghana card agenda 111, and other developmental projects if she doesn’t know she should ask,” he said.

My absence in Kumawood movie roles ‘killed’ the industry – Agya Koo

Ghanaian veteran actor Agya Koo asserts that the decline of the Kumawood movie industry is attributable to his exclusion from roles during a critical period.

Speaking on Ezra FM, a radio station based in Kumasi, he contends that his absence had a substantial impact on the industry, emphasizing his status as the most marketable actor.

This perspective differs from others who attribute the industry’s decline to the rise of CDs.

“Though I was not the only one acting at the time, at the time people wanted to watch Ghanaian movies, they mentioned the name Agya Koo. Why didn’t they ask for someone else’s name?” he stated.

Agya Koo fondly recalled the vibrant days of Kumawood, where his name was synonymous with Ghanaian cinema, especially among Ghanaians abroad, notably in the USA.

He argued that his unmatched marketability and influence were evident when people inquired about Ghanaian movies, often asking if he was part of the cast.

In a recent display of support, Agya Koo endorsed Kennedy Agyapong’s presidential aspirations through a newly released song ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s Presidential elections.

NPP has taken Ghana beyond where we found it – Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, has emphatically stated that Ghana has been rescued by the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

Acknowledging economic challenges, Dr. Hamid maintained that the government has propelled the country beyond its previous state under the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking on Accra-based Joy News, he said, “Yes, we have rescued this country. The economy is challenged without a doubt, but I’m saying to you Emefa that we have taken this country beyond where we found it.”

Dr. Hamid, who previously served as a spokesperson for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo before the 2016 elections, recalled his earlier stance on the need for rescuing the country from corruption under the NDC.

He concluded that the government has indeed delivered on its promise to rescue Ghana and is prepared to debate its achievements in the upcoming election year.

As Ghana approaches elections, Dr. Hamid expressed confidence in addressing concerns through debate. When prompted to provide an instance where the NPP government has “rescued” Ghana, he highlighted the impact of government policies on the future.

He stated, “We have saved over 400,000 young people who but for our policy would be languishing on the streets of our country, who are today in Universities and pursuing proper careers for their lives.”

Tying this to the importance of human resource mobilisation and efficiency, Dr. Hamid drew parallels with successful countries like Japan and Singapore. He argued that the government’s efforts in rescuing and empowering the youth contribute significantly to the progress and prosperity of the nation.

Speaking in an interview on Peace FM on November 22, 2023, she asserted that the president appoints individuals not only to contribute to the development of the nation but also to support party members.

She claimed that, unfortunately, some appointees are neglecting their responsibility to uplift party members, thereby depriving them of the benefits they are entitled to.

“I always say that God purposefully prepared Akufo-Addo to become president at this crucial time when there are economic difficulties all over the world.

“If it was Mahama who was to be president at this time when the entire world was going through a crisis, including Ghana, maybe he would have abandoned us… because how was he going to manage the situation, especially paying government workers?

“He couldn’t have done anything about it, so he should find himself somewhere…just that things are not going well. Additionally, our appointees are also very wicked because it is not the president who is supposed to take care of us,” she said.

The National Women’s Organizer also indicated that due to their alleged selfishness and wickedness, some appointees are concealing their positions from their hometown communities.

“For example, as I was coming here, the workers around, I could just gift them something small… how much do you even need to give tips, and they will be playing us wicked? Some of them cannot even go to their constituencies and hometowns because of wickedness.

“Some of them are appointees and CEOs, and it is surprising that their hometown people don’t even know that they hold such positions. The majority of them are wicked, but some are good; I don’t want to mention names,” she added.

She expressed her disappointment in such behavior, emphasizing that the women’s wing of the party is prepared to take action against those engaging in such practices.

“What the women’s wing of the NPP is going to do to such people, they should wait for myself and my deputies. We are going to check those who help and mark them down from today,” she emphasized.

NPP is now an empty barrel due to mafia tactics – Buaben Asamoa

Former Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has launched a strong criticism against the party, characterizing it as an “empty barrel.”

He attributed this characterization to what he perceives as the infiltration of mafia tactics by a select few within the party.

Speaking on Asempa FM, the former Member of Parliament for Adentan stated that the NPP has strayed from its founding principles, leading to a decline in its appeal. Buaben Asamoa, who is a prominent member of Alan Kyeremanten’s Movement for Change, accused certain individuals within the party of employing destructive mafia tactics, causing significant harm.

He predicted a mass exodus of NPP members to the Movement for Change, asserting that the party now lacks substance.

“NPP now an empty barrel. There is nothing in it because the mafia tactics have destroyed the party. There are a lot of bigwigs supporting Alan, and soon, they will have no choice than to come public because they know they are doing the work of God,” he stated.

Yaw Buaben Asamoa, along with others including Hopeson Adorye, former General Secretary Nana Ohene Ntow, and former Madina MP Boniface Abubakar Saddique, was expelled from the NPP after publicly endorsing former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen, who is running as an independent presidential aspirant.

Since his expulsion, Buaben Asamoa has been vocal on various media platforms, expressing serious concerns about the current state of the NPP. His critique includes allegations of mafia tactics and a departure from the party’s founding principles, indicating a significant internal rift within the party.

  • Gabby is responsible for my removal and 3 others from NPP – Hopeson Adorye

Gabby is responsible for my removal and 3 others from NPP – Hopeson Adorye

Hopeson Adorye, one of the four members recently expelled from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has alleged that Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a prominent figure in the party, played a role in their removal.

Adorye claimed that Gabby, along with other individuals whose names he did not disclose, exerted pressure on the NPP leadership to issue a press statement announcing their expulsion from the party.

In an interview on Okay FM, Adorye stated that Gabby even sent him a text message inquiring about his support for former NPP flagbearer hopeful, Alan Kyerematen, which he believes led to their dismissal from the party.

“Gabby Otchere-Darko sent me a publication which indicated that he had said I would be voting skirt and blouse and asked me if that was my position. And I said yes, I support Alan because he (Alan) feeds me every month, he pays me every month, so I would support him any day.

“And he (Gabby) said ‘thank you, I just wanted to establish that position’… some few days after this the statement was issued.

“… the statement was supposed to be released on Thursday but they decided to release it on Monday as a birthday present for me. I was told there were calls from Gabby and other people, I don’t want to mention, on Sunday for the statement to be released on Monday. Have you ever seen the NPP General Secretary releasing a statement at 6:00 am before, when there are so many issues in the country,” he said in Twi.

The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) announced on Monday, November 20, 2023, that Hopeson Adorye, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, Nana Ohene Ntow, and Boniface Abubakar Saddique are no longer members of the party. This decision was made in response to their public endorsement and campaign for independent presidential candidate Alan Kyerematen.

In an official statement, the NPP cited the quartet’s “flagrant breach” of the party’s constitution, specifically referring to Articles 3(5) (A)(4) and 3(9)(1). The party emphasized the importance of members abiding by and publicly upholding party decisions, as outlined in Article 3(5) (A) (4).

Furthermore, according to Article 3(9) (I), any member supporting an independent candidate against the party’s officially elected member automatically forfeits party membership.

The NPP urged its members to remain committed to supporting the officially elected Presidential Candidate, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, and to collaborate towards achieving victory in the upcoming 2024 polls.

Some NPP MPs, ministers very wicked, stingy – Kate Gyamfua reveals

The National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kate Gyamfua, has slammed some of the ministers and MPs of her party for being selfish and stingy. She accused them of not sharing their wealth with the people who voted for them and neglecting their constituencies.

She made this remark during an interview on on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo on November 23, 2024, where she touched on President Akufo-Addo’s leadership amidst challenging economic conditions, and expressed her belief that his presidency was divinely ordained.

According to her, it was god’s way of preventing Ghana from facing worse circumstances under opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) leader John Mahama.

“I always say that it was by divine orchestration that Akufo-Addo was leading Ghana at a time when the world has been hit with harsh economic conditions of which Ghana wasn’t left out, Mahama would have eloped.Where is the brains to plan? Where would he have been?Where? How would he have been able to pay workers?” she said.

In light of these sentiments, she directed her comments towards NPP MPs, urging them to assume responsibility for alleviating the hardships faced by citizens.

“How much at all would you give people? But they will never, deliberately being cruel to people. Due to this, some of them can’t even visit their constituencies. There are even people who have been appointed by the NPP government, but people from his hometown are not even privy to this,” Gyamfua observed.

According to her some of these MPs supposedly keep their wealth to themselves and even fail to reveals themselves or what positions they hold to leaders in their constituencies or religious organisations in order to avoid having to dish some monies out.

She claimed that some MPs hoard their wealth, concealing their positions and identities to avoid financial obligations to their constituencies and religious groups.

“Even when they do visit, they wouldn’t attend church and greet their pastors to introduce themselves in that regard, where they can offer to throw a party for the Women’s Fellowship or even Sunday School as Christmas approaches,” Gyamfua remarked, describing such a posture as wicked.

“Wickedness! Most of the MPs are very wicked. Some are good, others too… Those who know themselves do; I don’t want to mention names. I tell you,” she added.

  • Akufo-Addo is overbearing – Former NPP Member

Akufo-Addo is overbearing – Former NPP Member

Former Member of Parliament for Adentan Constituency and ex-Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has raised concerns about the Party, describing it as having an overpowering presence and authority of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Buaben Asamoa, who recently renounced his membership alongside three other prominent party members for openly supporting independent presidential candidate John Alan Kyerematen, alleges that the NPP is now under the complete control of the president, with his desires dictating the party’s trajectory.

“The party has changed character; a party ought to be an association of like minds with freedom and opportunity to rub minds and seek out the best spaces. The New Patriotic Party that I knew in the beginning is not the New Patriotic Party that exists now. It’s become divided by heavy factionalism. Literally, it has been taken over by the executive, that is the blunt truth. The party doesn’t exist.

“The government has taken the party over, the personality of the president is overbearing and he controls that party, and that means that if you don’t do the president’s wish; if you are not in the president’s good books you are not useful to that party. That is the bottom line, that is what is happening,” he said in an interview on Citi TV’s Face to Face programme.

General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua on November 21, 2023, announced the forfeiture of the membership of four leading members of the party.

The four, Hopeson Adorye, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, Nana Ohene Ntow, and Boniface Abubakar Saddique according to a press statement issued by the general secretary have been expelled from the party on the basis of their public endorsement and campaign Alan Kyerematen.

Having resigned from the NPP ahead of the party’s recently held presidential primaries, Alan Kyerematen has formed a political movement dubbed Movement for Change which has the Golden Butterfly as its symbol.

Mr Kyerematen as part of justification for his resignation, accused the government and the party’s leadership of unfair treatment against himself and his supporters. He further accused the leadership and the government of skewing the flagbearer contest in favour of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

NPP is dead – Buaben Asamoa

Former Member of Parliament for Adentan Constituency and ex-NPP stalwart, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, declares that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) no longer exists, citing an overwhelming influence from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Buaben Asamoa, who recently abandoned his NPP membership along with three other influential figures to back independent presidential candidate John Alan Kyerematen, alleges that the party has been taken over by the president, transforming its character and fostering factionalism.

In an interview on Citi TV’s Face to Face program, Buaben Asamoa expresses his concerns, stating, “The party has changed character; a party ought to be an association of like minds with freedom and opportunity to rub minds and seek out the best spaces. The NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, announced on November 21, 2023, that Buaben Asamoa and three other stalwarts, Hopeson Adorye, Nana Ohene Ntow, and Boniface Abubakar Saddique, had forfeited their membership of the party for endorsing and campaigning for Alan Kyerematen, who had resigned from the NPP ahead of the party’s presidential primaries.

Alan Kyerematen, who served as the Minister of Trade and Industry from 2017 to 2023 has formed a political movement called Movement for Change, with the Golden Butterfly as its symbol.

He has accused the government and the party’s leadership of unfair treatment and bias against him and his supporters. He has also alleged that the flagbearer contest was rigged in favour of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

  • No NPP member more loyal than me – Hopeson Adorye

No NPP member more loyal than me – Hopeson Adorye

Former member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a former Deputy National Security Coordinator in charge of airports, Hopeson Adorye, has claimed that he was the most loyal member of the party before before throwing his support behind Alan Kyerematen, the former Trade and Industry Minister, and leader of the Movement for Change.

Adorye made this statement during a media interview following his dismissal from the NPP. The party ousted him due to his public endorsement and active campaign for Kyerematen, who, like Adorye, is a former NPP member and is now running for president as an independent candidate.

Expressing his nonchalance towards the party’s decision, Adorye mentioned that he was already acquainted with the party’s constitution, which stipulates that supporting a breakaway candidate results in automatic forfeiture of party membership.

He said he was not bothered by his dismissal, as he was proud of his service to the party and confident that the party might need him again in the future.

“Who in the party can say that he is more loyal to NPP than me before I decided to support Alan Kyerematen? Who? When people are dissing the party who runs to the radio, television and defend the party? When the top hierarchy is being attacked, who goes to defend them? Please that one should not come in at all,” he said.

“When people are dissing the party, who runs to the radio, television, and defends the party? When the top hierarchy is being attacked, who goes to defend them?” Adorye questioned, underlining his consistent efforts to uphold and protect the party’s reputation in times of criticism.

Adorye, on his part, has declared his readiness to openly discuss his former party without any reservations.

The NPP announced the expulsion of Adorye in a statement on Monday, November 20, 2023, for violating the party’s constitution and code of conduct. The party accused him and three others of publicly endorsing the candidature of a person other than the duly elected Presidential Candidate of the Party; His Excellency Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, which is a breach of the “Party’s Constitution particularly Articles 3(5) (A)(4) and 3(9)(1)”.

    Below is the Party’s statement.

The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken notice of recent activities of Hopeson Adorye, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, Nana Ohene Ntow and Boniface Abubakar Saddique which includes publicly endorsing the candidature of a person other than the duly elected Presidential Candidate of the Party; His Excellency Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia.

In spite of their flagrant breach of the Party’s Constitution particularly Articles 3(5) (A)(4) and 3(9)(1), the afore-named men still hold themselves out as members of the NPP.

For the avoidance of doubt, Article 3(5) (A) (4) of the NPP Constitution enjoins all members of the Party to “abide by and publicly uphold the decisions of the Party”. In addition, Article 3(9) (1) of the Constitution provides as follows: “A Member of the Party, who stands as an independent candidate against the officially elected member of the Party, or who joins or declares his or her support for another Political Party, or for an independent candidate, when the Party has sponsored a candidate in a general or by-election,
automatically forfeits his or her membership of the Party”.

In line with these constitutional provisions, it is the view of the NPP that Hopeson Adorye, Nana Ohene Ntow. Boniface Abubakar Saddique and Yaw Buaben Asamoa have AUTOMATICALLY FORFEITED their membership of the Party. They are, therefore, no
    longer members of the Party.

The NPP entreats its members to remain true to their duties as per Article 3(5) of the party Constitution. We further call upon our members to bear in mind that the Party’s focus is to unite its ranks and rally the support of Ghanaians to make history by winning the 2024 general elections.

  • Get ready to write more ‘sack’ letters – Hopeson Adorye tells NPP’s JFK

Get ready to write more ‘sack’ letters – Hopeson Adorye tells NPP’s JFK

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart Hopeson Adorye, recently ousted from the party, is unreservedly expressing his discontent with the decision. In an interview with a media outlet, Adorye, seemingly undeterred by his dismissal, exuded confidence in his past contributions to the party, hinting that they might seek his support again in the future.

Now free to openly discuss his former party without inhibitions, Adorye directed a message to the General Secretary, Justin Koduah Frimpong, suggesting that he should prepare an abundance of letterheads because he, Adorye now has his “freedom”.

“The General Secretary should get a lot of letterheads down because he is going to write a lot of letters. I have my freedom. I decide where I should belong to,” rainbowradioonline.com quoted Adorye to have said.

Anticipating tumult within the NPP as the 2024 elections approach, Adorye predicted mass resignations.

Defending his loyalty to the NPP, Adorye challenged anyone in the party to claim greater allegiance than himself, especially before he threw his support behind Alan Kyerematen.

He questioned, “When people are dissing the party, who runs to the radio, television, and defends the party? When the top hierarchy is being attacked, who goes to defend them?”

Disputing the notion that he was sacked, Adorye contended that he had non-verbally communicated his departure from the party by supporting breakaway member Alan Kyerematen and his independent presidential bid.

Despite the official letter of expulsion released by the party on November 20, 2023, Adorye maintained that he was already aware of his forfeited membership, questioning the necessity of a formal communication.

He dismissed the letter as “just a waste of time,” emphasizing that the provisions of the party’s constitution were well-known to him and others, including former General Secretary Ohene Ntow.

Confident about the future, Adorye anticipates that as time progresses, the NPP might seek his audience. Unperturbed by the situation, he conveyed, “I am not worried. It is no problem.”

  • “Behave! You have a lame duck president, you need NDC’s help” – Speaker Bagbin ‘warns’ Majority

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has warned the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, to cooperate with the Minority side or face legislative gridlock.

The Speaker expressed his dissatisfaction with the Majority Leader’s failure to ensure the attendance of his members during the debate on the 2024 budget. Bagbin described Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s performance as “limping”.

The Speaker attributed the poor performance of the Majority to the change of loyalties within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after the party’s presidential primaries.

Notably, with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerging as the NPP’s flagbearer, Bagbin observed a transition in allegiances away from the incumbent, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Bagbin observed that the reported change in loyalty has led to NPP MPs appearing to neglect their parliamentary responsibilities, treating President Akufo-Addo as a president with limited influence.

To tackle this issue, the Speaker encouraged the Majority Leader to give precedence to working together with the Minority, highlighting that the legislative process might encounter challenges without such collaboration.

“I expect the majority who have a limping majority leader, limping because when you look at his back you’re less than those in front of you. You have a lame duck president, a lame duck because you have elected a flagbearer and loyalty and commitment are shifting. So, your president is now a lame duck president. You need this side of the house to support you to finish your eight years,” Mr. Bagbin mentioned.

“And so if you don’t behave well, we have difficulty in proceeding as a nation…please, I expect you to cooperate; I will not allow them to bully you. You’ll get sufficient time to put across your case,” he warned.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was elected as the NPP’s flagbearer on November 4, 2023, ahead of the 2024 general election.

  • Leadership met and decided to sack Buaben Asamoa, 3 others for choosing Alan over NPP – Nana B

Leadership met and decided to sack Buaben Asamoa, 3 others for choosing Alan over NPP – Nana B

National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has clarified the dismissals of party members who were found to be supporting an independent candidate.

According to a statement dated November 20, 2023, and signed by the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hopeson Adorye, Nana Ohene Ntow, Boniface Abubakar Saddique, and Yaw Buaben Asamoa, by publicly endorsing the candidature of a person other than the party’s duly elected presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, have automatically forfeited their membership of the party.

Mr Boakye stated that the decision was not solely the action of the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, but rather a consensus reached during a national executive meeting.

“This letter, let me say that it is not only Justin Kodua Frimpong who authoritatively wrote the letter but rather we went for a national executive meeting, and all the party leaders decided that this is the way to go. So, he is carrying the message of the national executive committee,” Mr Boakye said.

In an interview on Peace FM on November 20, 2023, Boakye emphasized that the decision to dismiss party members supporting an independent candidate was a national one, reflecting the stance of the entire party leadership.

He explained that during the period when Alan Kyerematen, a former NPP member, chose to contest as an independent candidate, the party did not have an official flagbearer. Therefore, there was no need to take disciplinary action against members supporting Kyerematen at that time.

“At the time that Alan wanted to go as an independent candidate, we didn’t have a flagbearer, so there was no need to sack someone who supported an independent candidate.

“As of November 4th, we have an officially elected presidential candidate, so we have to base our decisions on the party laws to take such actions,” he said.

The National Organizer emphasized the significance of adhering to party rules, particularly now that the NPP has a confirmed flagbearer. Boakye stated that supporting an independent candidate goes against the established party regulations, necessitating the need for disciplinary measures.

Gospel singer Gifty Osei has sent a subtle message to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following the dismissal of her husband, Hopeson Adorye, from the party.

In a comment under a post on Instagram, where Adorye reacted to his expulsion, Osei wrote: “Be careful who you push away, real ones don’t come back.❤️❤️❤️”

Osei’s comment suggests that she is not happy with the way the NPP treated her husband, who was the Deputy National Security Coordinator and a former parliamentary candidate for the party.

She also implied that her husband is a loyal and valuable member of the party, who might not return if the party regrets its decision.

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Ohene Ntow, has asserted that he committed no wrongdoing by publicly endorsing Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen for the 2024 election.

Following his public support for the Independent Presidential candidate, Ntow, along with Buaben Asamoa, Hopeson Adorye, and Boniface Saddique Abubakar, were expelled from the NPP on November 20.

In an interview with Metro TV, Nana Ohene Ntow expressed acceptance of the party’s decision. He emphasized that individuals make choices based on the character of the candidate being elected, suggesting that such considerations should be straightforward.

“People make a choice, based on first of all the individual’s character who is being elected into office. I’m sure it’s a no-brainer that you should consider. If you tell me that you have expelled me based on the constitutional provision, I will not chide you.

“I will not argue about it. You have institutional rights to do what you think is right, but this is politics, it’s all about numbers,” Nana Ohene Ntow said.

The NPP leadership formally announced the dismissal of Hopeson Adorye, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, Nana Ohene Ntow, and Boniface Abubakar Saddique on November 20.

The party cited a blatant breach of the Party’s Constitution, specifically referencing Articles 3(5)(A)(4) and 3(9)(1) as grounds for their removal.

The NPP’s official statement, signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, underscored Article 3(5)(A)(4) of the NPP Constitution, which obliges all members to “abide by and publicly uphold the decisions of the Party.”

  • Hopeson Adorye vows to spill dirty top secrets of NPP

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) member, Hopeson Adorye, has declared his readiness to openly discuss his former party without any reservations after his expulsion.

In response to the news of his dismissal, Adorye expressed his newfound freedom, stating that previously, he spoke cautiously for the sake of loyalty to the party.

However, now that he is no longer affiliated with the party, he asserts that his statements will flow without any punctuations – no full stops, no commas, no semi-colons, and others.

He reassured, “We will speak as we have to, so do not worry.”

Confident about the future, Adorye anticipates that as time progresses, the NPP might seek his audience. Unperturbed by the situation, he conveyed, “I am not worried. It is no problem.”

In response to Adorye’s threats, social media users expressed mockery, questioning his initial trust in the NPP.

One user sarcastically commented, “Sia, next time you won’t trust a dwarf from Kyebi.”

Another user added, “How I wish he comes out with the secrets of Serwaa Broni saga.”

Bitter Buaben Asamoa attacks Bawumia after expulsion

Former Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has characterized his dismissal from the party as a result of a rigid approach and what he perceives as ‘mafia’ tactics.

He expressed concern that such an approach may not be in the best interests of the party’s general membership.

In a statement, the former Adentan MP emphasized the right to independently support political activities, citing Article 55(2). This suggests a disagreement with the party’s decision to expel him, potentially due to his support for the independent presidential candidacy of Alan Kyerematen.

“First, our public conduct in unconditionally and with great conviction supporting the highflying independent candidature of Alan Kyerematen for president is against the NPP constitution, which provides for automatic forfeiture of membership under article 3(9)(1). That is incontestable and therefore needs no formal written notice.

“Unfortunately for the Party ‘Leadership’, the wholesale application of the poorly written article 3(9)(1), may not be serving the interests of the general membership of the Party well.

“By not differentiating between support for presidential and parliamentary candidates, conduct against a presidential candidate, results in forfeiture of the parliamentary vote as well. This is clearly out of step with the fast developing political culture of “skirt & blouse”, where voters increasingly mix their choice of presidential and parliamentary candidates based on factors other than what the party ‘Leadership’ says,” part of the statement said.

Mr Buaben Asamoa contends that outdated rules reducing party membership based on support for independent candidates may not be in line with evolving political practices. He is emphasizing that these rules, which penalize party members for supporting independent candidates, may need to be reevaluated to reflect changing political dynamics.

Mr Buaben Asamoa also drew attention to the fact that the Constitution of Ghana does not explicitly require political party affiliation for presidential qualification.

“Hundreds of thousands of NPP members and millions of sympathisers are deeply unhappy at the so-called ‘mafia’ tactics of intimidation and inducement used to skew delegate elections in favour of choices that may not necessarily be popular with the general electorate.

“Indeed, the ‘mafia’ approach is against article 55(5) of the 1992 Constitution, which demands democratic principles in internal party processes. Whilst there is value to being part of an ‘organisation’ like a ‘party’, continuing exclusionary practices, quietly erodes loyalty and conviction, over time.”

Mr. Buaben Asamoa argued that public dissatisfaction with the lack of genuine choices in party candidate selection processes has fueled a growing demand for a third force in Ghanaian politics.

He expressed discontent with the selection of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the NPP’s presidential candidate, stating that the process lacked innovation and did not present anything new to the Ghanaian voter.

Advocating for a candidate like Alan Kyerematen, whom he described as visionary, competent, and integral, Buaben Asamoa believes that such a candidate could disrupt the duopoly politics that has led to increasing apathy among voters.

“Fourthly, the public is keenly aware that the selection of H.E the Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as Presidential Candidate of the NPP, was the confirmation of a process carefully designed to have only one outcome. Because it was choreographed, there is nothing new or surprising to offer the voter public.

“Arguably, the patient Ghanaian voter has been short-changed by the presidential candidate selection processes of both the NPP and NDC. The lack of genuine choice of candidates at party level, translates into a loss of trust in duopoly politics and increasing apathy, hence the loud chorus for a credible third force leadership if democratic practice is to be sustained for the benefit of youthful voters.

“That is why a bold and viable candidate like Alan Kyerematen, meets the need of the times. I and my friends Hopeson Adorye, Nana Ohene-Ntow and Saddique Abu-Bakar Boniface, in our support for Alan Kyerematen, a man of vision, competence, integrity and action, represent millions of Ghanaians who want to serve the country with a clear conscience. We are upholding the preamble to the Constitution, articles 1, 3(2), 17(1)(2)(3), 21(1)(3), 35(1)(4)(5)(9), 37(2)(a) and above all, article 41.

“Finally, the 1992 Constitution recognises ‘coalition’ governments. A coalition is defined by the oxford dictionary as “a temporary alliance for combined action, especially of political parties forming a government”.

“Alan Kyerematen wants to bring Ghanaians together in the next election, in a Government of National Unity, to think Ghana, and redirect Ghana onto a positive trajectory,” the statement added.

The statement from the party, dated November 20, 2023, and signed by its General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, indicates that Hopeson Adorye, Nana Ohene Ntow, Boniface Abubakar Saddique, and Yaw Buaben Asamoa have forfeited their membership in the party.

This decision stems from the individuals publicly endorsing the candidacy of someone other than the party’s officially elected presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

    Hon Yaw Buaben Asamoa writes…

Re: ‘FORFEITURE OF MEMBERSHIP PURSUANT TO THE PROVISION OF ARTICLE 3(9)(1) OF THE NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY CONSTITUTION’

My attention and that of my esteemed and patriotically principled colleagues, Hopeson Adorye, Nana Ohene-Ntow and Saddique Abu-Bakar Boniface, has been drawn by numerous media outlets to a statement purportedly issued and signed by the General Secretary of the NPP, captioned as above.

Though none of the persons mentioned has received a personal copy, we accept our resignation from the NPP and pledge our commitment to Ghana’s success through our support for Alan Kyerematen. We also take this opportunity to respond and set the minds of concerned well-meaning patriots at ease.

First, our public conduct in unconditionally and with great conviction supporting the highflying independent candidature of Alan Kyerematen for president, is against the NPP constitution, which provides for automatic forfeiture of membership under article 3(9)(1). That is incontestable and therefore needs no formal written notice.

Unfortunately for the Party ‘Leadership’, the wholesale application of the poorly written article 3(9)(1), may not be serving the interests of the general membership of the Party well. By not differentiating between support for presidential and parliamentary candidates, conduct against a presidential candidate, results in forfeiture of the parliamentary vote as well. This is clearly out of step with the fast developing political culture of “skirt & blouse”, where voters increasingly mix their choice of presidential and parliamentary candidates based on factors other than what the party ‘Leadership’ says.

H.E. the President benefitted from ‘skirt and blouse’ when he won ten constituencies in the Central Region where NDC won the parliamentary seats. Are those who accepted the President but voted otherwise at parliamentary level to be sacked?

Hundreds of thousands of NPP members and millions of sympathisers are deeply unhappy at the so called ‘mafia’ tactics of intimidation and inducement used to skew delegate elections in favour of choices that may not necessarily be popular with the general electorate. Indeed, the ‘mafia’ approach is against article 55(5) of the 1992 Constitution, which demands democratic principles in internal party processes. Whilst there is value to being part of an ‘organisation’ like a ‘party’, continuing exclusionary practices, quietly erodes loyalty and conviction, over time.

Secondly, the same article 55(2) which gives a right to join political parties also gives a right to support political activity as an independent under 55(10) and (16). Considering that the right of a political party to sponsor candidates, does not exclude the right of independent candidates nor their supporters to participate in general elections, it may not be prudent to continue to reduce ones’ membership with archaic rules.

Thirdly, in the profound wisdom of the 1992 Constitution, qualification to the presidency of Ghana does not require political party affiliation. Articles 57(1), 58, 62 and 63(1)(2)(3) and 94, dealing with the nature, qualification and powers of the office, have nothing to do with parties. Furthermore, exercising the powers of the presidency do not require party authority. In office, a president appoints and runs a government under articles 70, 76, 77, 78(1)(2) and 79, without a stated party presence. A voter does not have to be a member of a party to benefit from the presidency.

Fourthly, the public is keenly aware that the selection of H.E the Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as Presidential Candidate of the NPP, was the confirmation of a process carefully designed to have only one outcome. Because it was choreographed, there is nothing new or surprising to offer the voter public. Arguably, the patient Ghanaian voter, has been short-changed by the presidential candidate selection processes of both the NPP and NDC. The lack of genuine choice of candidates at party level, translates into a loss of trust in duopoly politics and increasing apathy, hence the loud chorus for a credible third force leadership if democratic practice is to be sustained for the benefit of youthful voters.

That is why a bold and viable candidate like Alan Kyerematen, meets the need of the times.

Finally, the 1992 Constitution recognises ‘coalition’ governments. A coalition is defined by the oxford dictionary as “a temporary alliance for combined action, especially of political parties forming a government”. Alan Kyerematen wants to bring Ghanaians together in the next election, in a Government of National Unity, to think Ghana, and redirect Ghana onto a positive trajectory.

Nowhere in our constitution is it specified that Parliament is bi-cameral or that only a majority and minority can operate in Parliament. It is a fiction sold by the Standing Orders. Article 97(2) states unequivocally that a member need not lose their seat under 97(1)(g) and (h), if their party is a member of a coalition government. Article 103(5) admonishes that committees of Parliament ought to “reflect the different shades of opinion in Parliament”. Article 104 talks about a majority of members present and voting. It does not refer to a majority party.

Ghana is ready for a political third force capable of breaking unproductive duopoly politics. We do not need a change of constitution to effect the change of leadership that the parties are incapable of offering. We have Alan Kyerematen. Together, our support for his independent presidency will unleash the development energy being suppressed by tit for tat duopoly politics.
