We will continue to support Alan to bring a third force, dismiss us – Buaben Asamoa tells NPP

Former member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has officially accepted the dismissal of himself and his colleagues who were expelled from the party due to their unwavering support for Alan Kyerematen’s independent presidential candidacy.

The group, including Hopeson Adorye, Nana Ohene-Ntow, and Saddique Abu-Bakar Boniface, violated Article 3(9)(1) of the NPP’s constitution, leading to their removal from the party. Buaben Asamoa, speaking on behalf of the quartet, stated that they have no intention of challenging their dismissal.

“Though none of the persons mentioned has received a personal copy, we accept our dismissal from the NPP and pledge our commitment to Ghana’s success through our support for Alan Kyerematen. We also take this opportunity to respond and set the minds of concerned well-meaning patriots at ease,” he stated.

He emphasized that their steadfast backing of Alan Kyerematen stems from their belief that Ghana requires a “bold and viable candidate like Alan Kyerematen” to address the democratic and economic challenges of the current times.

“I and my friends Hopeson Adorye, Nana Ohene-Ntow and Saddique Abu-Bakar Boniface, in our support for Alan Kyerematen, a man of vision, competence, integrity and action, represent millions of Ghanaians who want to serve the country with a clear conscience. We are upholding the preamble to the Constitution, articles 1, 3(2), 17(1)(2)(3), 21(1)(3), 35(1)(4)(5)(9), 37(2)(a) and above all, article 41,” he stated.

Re: ‘FORFEITURE OF MEMBERSHIP PURSUANT TO THE PROVISION OF ARTICLE 3(9)(1) OF THE NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY CONSTITUTION’

My attention and that of my esteemed and patriotically principled colleagues, Hopeson Adorye, Nana Ohene-Ntow and Saddique Abu-Bakar Boniface, has been drawn by numerous media outlets to a statement purportedly issued and signed by the General Secretary of the NPP, captioned as above.

Though none of the persons mentioned has received a personal copy, we accept our resignation from the NPP and pledge our commitment to Ghana’s success through our support for Alan Kyerematen. We also take this opportunity to respond and set the minds of concerned well-meaning patriots at ease.

First, our public conduct in unconditionally and with great conviction supporting the highflying independent candidature of Alan Kyerematen for president, is against the NPP constitution, which provides for automatic forfeiture of membership under article 3(9)(1). That is incontestable and therefore needs no formal written notice.

Unfortunately for the Party ‘Leadership’, the wholesale application of the poorly written article 3(9)(1), may not be serving the interests of the general membership of the Party well. By not differentiating between support for presidential and parliamentary candidates, conduct against a presidential candidate, results in forfeiture of the parliamentary vote as well. This is clearly out of step with the fast developing political culture of “skirt & blouse”, where voters increasingly mix their choice of presidential and parliamentary candidates based on factors other than what the party ‘Leadership’ says.

H.E. the President benefitted from ‘skirt and blouse’ when he won ten constituencies in the Central Region where NDC won the parliamentary seats. Are those who accepted the President but voted otherwise at parliamentary level to be sacked?
Hundreds of thousands of NPP members and millions of sympathisers are deeply unhappy at the so called ‘mafia’ tactics of intimidation and inducement used to skew delegate elections in favour of choices that may not necessarily be popular with the general electorate. Indeed, the ‘mafia’ approach is against article 55(5) of the 1992 Constitution, which demands democratic principles in internal party processes. Whilst there is value to being part of an ‘organisation’ like a ‘party’, continuing exclusionary practices, quietly erodes loyalty and conviction, over time.

Secondly, the same article 55(2) which gives a right to join political parties also gives a right to support political activity as an independent under 55(10) and (16). Considering that the right of a political party to sponsor candidates, does not exclude the right of independent candidates nor their supporters to participate in general elections, it may not be prudent to continue to reduce ones’ membership with archaic rules.

Thirdly, in the profound wisdom of the 1992 Constitution, qualification to the presidency of Ghana does not require political party affiliation. Articles 57(1), 58, 62 and 63(1)(2)(3) and 94, dealing with the nature, qualification and powers of the office, have nothing to do with parties. Furthermore, exercising the powers of the presidency do not require party authority. In office, a president appoints and runs a government under articles 70, 76, 77, 78(1)(2) and 79, without a stated party presence. A voter does not have to be a member of a party to benefit from the presidency.

Fourthly, the public is keenly aware that the selection of H.E the Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as Presidential Candidate of the NPP, was the confirmation of a process carefully designed to have only one outcome. Because it was choreographed, there is nothing new or surprising to offer the voter public. Arguably, the patient Ghanaian voter, has been short-changed by the presidential candidate selection processes of both the NPP and NDC. The lack of genuine choice of candidates at party level, translates into a loss of trust in duopoly politics and increasing apathy, hence the loud chorus for a credible third force leadership if democratic practice is to be sustained for the benefit of youthful voters.

That is why a bold and viable candidate like Alan Kyerematen, meets the need of the times. I and my friends Hopeson Adorye, Nana Ohene-Ntow and Saddique Abu-Bakar Boniface, in our support for Alan Kyerematen, a man of vision, competence, integrity and action, represent millions of Ghanaians who want to serve the country with a clear conscience. We are upholding the preamble to the Constitution, articles 1, 3(2), 17(1)(2)(3), 21(1)(3), 35(1)(4)(5)(9), 37(2)(a) and above all, article 41.

Finally, the 1992 Constitution recognises ‘coalition’ governments. A coalition is defined by the oxford dictionary as “a temporary alliance for combined action, especially of political parties forming a government”. Alan Kyerematen wants to bring Ghanaians together in the next election, in a Government of National Unity, to think Ghana, and redirect Ghana onto a positive trajectory.

Nowhere in our constitution is it specified that Parliament is bi-cameral or that only a majority and minority can operate in Parliament. It is a fiction sold by the Standing Orders. Article 97(2) states unequivocally that a member need not lose their seat under 97(1)(g) and (h), if their party is a member of a coalition government. Article 103(5) admonishes that committees of Parliament ought to “reflect the different shades of opinion in Parliament”. Article 104 talks about a majority of members present and voting. It does not refer to a majority party.

Ghana is ready for a political third force capable of breaking unproductive duopoly politics. We do not need a change of constitution to effect the change of leadership that the parties are incapable of offering. We have Alan Kyerematen. Together, our support for his independent presidency will unleash the development energy being suppressed by tit-for-tat duopoly politics.

Akufo-Addo appointee, Free Zones Authority Acting Chairman, ditches NPP for Alan’s ‘butterfly’ movement

Joojo Fosu, an appointee of President Akufo-Addo and acting Board Chairman at the Ghana Free Zones Authority, has publicly declared his support for Independent Presidential Candidate Alan Kyerematen.

Fosu, clad in the symbolic ‘butterfly cloth’ of Kyerematen’s Movement for Change, maintains his position in the NPP government despite this notable shift in allegiance.

Accompanying Alan Kyerematen to the State Funeral rites for former First Lady Theresa Kufuor, Fosu’s decisive move to endorse an independent candidate is perceived as a vote of no confidence in the Akufo-Addo government and the NPP’s prospects in the 2024 general elections.

According to Article 3(9)(1) of the NPP Constitution, Fosu’s support for a presidential candidate other than the party’s chosen nominee automatically leads to the forfeiture of his NPP membership.

This provision was reiterated by NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong in a statement issued on November 20, 2023.

Meanwhile, the NPP leadership announced earlier today that Adorye, along with Yaw Buaben Asamoa, Nana Ohene Ntow, and Boniface Abubakar Saddique, are no longer members of the party due to their public endorsement and campaign for independent presidential candidate Alan Kyerematen.

In an official statement, the NPP cited the quartet’s “flagrant breach” of the party’s constitution, specifically referring to Articles 3(5) (A)(4) and 3(9)(1). The party emphasised the importance of members abiding by and publicly upholding party decisions, as per Article 3(5) (A) (4).

Moreover, Article 3(9)(I) specifies that any member endorsing an independent candidate against the officially elected party nominee automatically loses party membership.

The NPP encouraged its members to stand firm in supporting the officially elected Presidential Candidate, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, and to work together to secure victory in the forthcoming 2024 polls.

Sylvester Tetteh escapes NPP dismissal; See why

On Monday, November 20, 2023, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) took the step of revoking the membership of certain individuals who openly expressed their allegiance to Alan Kyerematen, a former party member.

In an official statement, the NPP announced the suspension of Hopeson Adorye, Nana Ohene Ntow, Boniface Abubakar Saddique, and Yaw Buaben Asamoa. The basis for this suspension was their violation of the party’s stance against endorsing the candidature of individuals not officially representing the party.

Noteworthy is the absence of Sylvester Tetteh, the Member of Parliament for Bortianor-Ngleshi-Amanfro, a prominent figure in Kyerematen’s campaign during his tenure with the NPP.

According to Article 3(5)(A)(4) of the NPP constitution, all members are required to “abide by and publicly uphold the decision of the party.”

The clause further states that “a member who stands as an independent candidate against the officially elected party member, or supports another political party or independent candidate when the party has sponsored a candidate in an election, automatically forfeits party membership.”

However, Sylvester Tetteh adeptly avoided inclusion in the list of suspended members, a move credited by GhanaWeb to his timely response when Alan Kyerematen withdrew from the November 4, 2023, contest and later resigned from the New Patriotic Party.

Swiftly distancing himself from the Alan campaign following his former ‘boss’s’ departure, Tetteh promptly redirected his allegiance by providing steadfast support to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s candidature for the party’s flagbearer position.

In a GhanaWeb report on September 13, 2023, – when Alan withdrew from the race, the MP stated, “It is obvious that the NPP rank and file support the candidature of Vice-President Bawumia, and, in that light, I have decided, in consultation with my constituents, to join Team Bawumia.”

He emphasised that with Alan Kyerematen no longer in the race, he needed to choose among the remaining candidates, and his choice was Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia because he believes Bawumia would make an excellent president.

“I am making a firm commitment that I will support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the November 4 elections,” Tetteh stated.

Sylvester Tetteh’s adherence to the party’s constitution during this transition spared him from suspension, distinguishing him from his colleagues who have recently faced disciplinary measures from the party.

In contrast to Sylvester Tetteh and the othersHopeson Adorye, Nana Ohene Ntow, Boniface Abubakar Saddique, and Yaw Buaben Asamoa—the party deems them to still maintain allegiance to Alan Kyerematen and his new Movement for Change, leading to their dismissal.

Scandal: Top NPP MP allegedly impregnates someone’s wife twice; fathering two ‘illegitimate’ children

In a shocking revelation that has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, a developing story involving a prominent Member of Parliament from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). The high-ranking MP, who also holds a significant position in Parliament, is reported to have engaged in a clandestine romantic relationship with a woman identified as Annie Mensah.

Investigations reveal that this secret liaison has resulted in the birth of two children, whose biological father is not Annie Mensah’s husband but allegedly the NPP MP in question. The gravity of the situation is compounded by the fact that the MP’s official spouse may be unaware of the extramarital affair.

Credible sources suggest that the MP’s involvement with Annie Mensah predates her marriage to her current husband. Shockingly, the relationship is believed to have continued even after her marriage. The bombshell revelation surfaced when Annie Mensah’s husband, suspicious of the circumstances surrounding the birth of their first child, decided to conduct a DNA test.

According to the aggrieved husband, his concerns were initially raised when Annie Mensah became pregnant just a week before their marriage. However, it was the lack of any biological resemblance between him and the firstborn that intensified his suspicions. Family members echoed similar concerns, prompting the husband to take matters into his own hands with a DNA test.

The results reportedly provided concrete evidence that the child was not biologically related to Annie Mensah’s husband but instead allegedly belonged to the NPP MP, who is referred to as the “Sugar Daddy” in this unfolding scandal.

This revelation has the potential to unleash legal, ethical, and political consequences for the NPP MP, whose identity has not been disclosed at this time.

Video: Alan’s butterfly team clash with NPP supporters at Mrs. Kufuor’s funeral

New Patriotic Party (NPP) made a significant presence at the final funeral of former First Lady Theresa Kufuor on November 18, 2023.

The event, held at Heroes Park in Kumasi, was followed by a private burial at Daaban.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, accompanied by his spouse, the Vice President, and other high-ranking members, attended the ceremony.

However, the occasion was marred by a heated exchange between supporters of former trade minister Alan Kyerematen and NPP supporters.

In a video shared by Accra-based Citi FM, members of Alan’s Movement for Change, clad in customized black and yellow butterfly prints, engaged in a taunting exchange with NPP supporters, who responded in kind.

The video captured Alan’s supporters singing songs that hinted at surprises for the ruling party, especially in the region.

Alan, formerly a senior member of the party and a contender for the 2024 elections, resigned in early September to form the Movement for Change. He aims to contest the election under its banner.

Meanwhile, the NPP elected Vice President Bawumia as its flagbearer for the same election in early November.

Ken Agyapong, Abronye join forces to campaign against Asenso-Boakye

The competition for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate in the Bantama Constituency is shaping up to be an intense showdown between the current Member of Parliament, Francis Asenso-Boakye, and Ralph Kwame Agyapong.

During a recent event marking the inauguration of a library built by the incumbent MP in the constituency, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo commended his former deputy Chief of Staff. The president urged the electorate in Bantama to support Asenso-Boakye in the party’s upcoming primaries and the general election.

“It will hurt me so much if the people of Bantama throw him away. Give him the opportunity to represent you again and he will come and continue the good job he has been doing,” he urged.

In reaction to the president’s endorsement of his rival, Ralph Agyapong has disclosed that he too is garnering significant support from influential figures within the party.

This includes the backing of his brother, Kennedy Agyapong, who serves as the Member of Parliament for Assin Central and was a former hopeful for the NPP flagbearer position.

During an interview on Angel FM Kumasi, Ralph revealed that he enjoys support from various regional chairmen, including Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye, from the Bono Region and Kwabena Owusu Sekyere from the Ahafo Region.

“He supports me more than 1,001%. He repeated this two days ago. I was sitting with him in the room and he said, ‘Bantama, even if they like it, I will come and live there and do the work,” he stated.

According to Ralph, the president’s endorsement of Asenso-Boakye has opened the floodgates for his camp to go all out in the campaign.

“Has the president not come to do some of the work and gone? So it will be nice going forward; when he comes, Ken also comes, and then the two of us will also be facing off.

“Do you know those who want to come for me? Abronye is currently lurking at Asokwa. He says I should open up for him and I told the chairman to relax. Bantama will be exciting, so keep your eyes on Bantama. People are lacing their boots; Ahafo Chairman Sekyere has laced his boots and is stomping his feet,” he added.

Ralph Agyapong played a crucial role in supporting Kennedy Agyapong’s bid for the NPP flagbearer position, a campaign that ultimately ended with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerging as the winner.

According to Ralph, he has received unwavering support from his brother to secure victory over Asenso-Boakye in the upcoming NPP primaries scheduled for early 2024.

Ralph contends that, under Asenso-Boakye’s leadership, the Bantama Constituency has experienced a lack of development, with allegations of oppression against party executives and delegates.

‘Mr Speaker we don’t have it’ – Minority fumes over lack of copies of 2024 budget copies following minister’s presentation

Minority in parliament has expressed disappointment with the Ministry of Finance for not furnishing Members of Parliament with copies of the 2024 budget statement following its presentation on November 15.

Minority Leader Ato Forson highlighted the issue, underscoring the need to promptly receive the budget documents for the ensuing post-budget discussions.

“Mr. Speaker, it is important for me to state that as we speak, we are all aware that the post-budget starts tomorrow; unfortunately, we have not received copies of the budget statement,” Ato Forson conveyed during parliamentary proceedings. “I do not have a copy of the budget statement, and no one is here. I have been observing the Ministry of Finance website since Wednesday to be able to download a soft copy,” he added.

Ato Forson underscored the significance of having access to the budget documents, describing the situation as a pressing concern as the house commences its worship tomorrow. “Mr. Speaker, this is not a speech; this is an appendix that comes with it. Mr. Speaker, we don’t have it; we don’t have it,” he reiterated.

Show me one hospital you have commissioned in A/R and I will resign – Minister dares NDC

Ashanti Regional Minister for the New Patriotic Party, Hon. Simon OSei Mensah, has dared the National Democratic Congress to mention a single hospital it commissioned during its eight years in power.

His remarks stem from allegations by some members of the National Democratic Party (NDC) over the incumbent government’s abandonment of hospital projects that were started by the previous government.

In response to this on Hello FM in Kumasi, Mr. Osei-Mensah stated that the NDC lacks the moral authority to discuss issues concerning the region as it has failed to take meaningful actions for the people.

He called on the NDC to show him just one hospital it was able to commission during its tenure and he will step down from his role as minister.

“They [NDC] are complaining about uncompleted hospitals. They claim the hospital at Nyameani junction has been awarded and its a loan; who told them?” he quizzed.

“NDC should be ashamed of themselves. When they were in power from 2009 to 2017, did they even commission one hospital in the Ashanti region?. They should show me just one and I’ll resign. If they get just one hospital they commissioned, I will resign.I tell you, we are going to work with facts and figures,” he said.

  • NPP will lose 2024 elections to the NDC – EIU, Fitch Solutions project

NPP will lose 2024 elections to the NDC – EIU, Fitch Solutions project

The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) and Fitch Solutions, two UK-based research firms, are both predicting a victory for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by former President John Mahama in the upcoming 2024 Presidential elections.

The EIU forecasts a transfer of power from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) which will be represented by Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, its flagbearer, to the NDC.

This shift, according to the EIU, will be driven by factors such as declining living standards, limited job opportunities, and poor public services.

Fitch Solutions also suggests that the ruling party is unlikely to retain power, with former President Mahama expected to secure victory in the swing regions by nearly 48 percent compared to Vice President Bawumia’s 29%.

According to BMI, a Fitch Solutions company, the NPP is unlikely to stay in power after the 2024 election. Data from Global Info Analytics and their own sources indicate that the NDC is ahead of the NPP in the Volta-Oti regions, Northern regions, swing regions, and Akan regions.

The EIU report forecasts that the Ghanaian cedi will regain some of its lost value following a debt restructuring deal and is expected to end 2024 below 12 cedis to the dollar.

The report indicates that in 2024, about nine African countries will hold elections, with incumbent regimes expected to prevail in most cases, but there is a heightened risk of reduced parliamentary majorities.

According to the EIU, Ghana is likely to witness a transfer of power from the ruling NPP to the NDC, driven by factors such as declining living standards, limited job opportunities, and poor public services.

The report also predicts that inflation will ease in most African countries in 2024, but some major economies, including Ghana, will continue to experience double-digit inflation.

  • Alan is just determined to destroy NPP – Vim Lady

Alan is just determined to destroy NPP – Vim Lady

Media personality Afia Pokua, popularly known as Vim Lady, has asserted that Alan Kyerematen’s decision to break away from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and establish a movement for the 2024 elections is not driven by a desire for victory but rather by a motive to retaliate against his former party.

Vim Lady explained that Alan’s departure stems from being mistreated by certain factions within the NPP.

Following Alan Kyerematen’s placement as the third most favored candidate in the NPP’s Super Delegates Conference on August 26, 2023, he opted to initiate his own non-political group. His announced plan is to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming 2024 elections.

Regarding the likelihood of his success in the elections, Vim Lady expressed her view that Alan Kyerematen’s agenda appears divisive. She went on to allege that his motives may extend beyond merely winning the 2024 presidency and could involve hidden intentions.

“Alan’s intention really is not to win the elections. He is pissing in. He feels like he’s not been treated right. The establishment has ganged up against him and they bullied him out of the race. He wanted to punish them, because in 2007, he kind of let Nana Addo have the day, even though at the time, he was the establishment candidate,” she said.

Afia Pokua suggests that the ex-trade minister harmed his own position by failing to consistently connect with the grassroots during his time in the government.

“I kind of blame Alan’s team for letting him down throughout the campaign. He also allowed his team to let him down. When he became trade minister, he laid back. He abandoned the grass root work that he needed to do. I think that he gave that job to his people and his team let him down.

“Because during that same period, Kennedy Agyapong and Bawumia were all over the Zongo communities engaged in charity works. Hardly would you find records that show Alan in Zongos, churches or engaged in other benevolent acts,” she added.

NPP Bekwai aspirant to employ English translator during Parliamentary proceeding due to communication barrier

A prominent New Patriotic Party (NPP) serial caller in the Ashanti region, Kwabena Nyame, has declared his intention to run for the Bekwai constituency in the upcoming primaries scheduled for February 2024.

Despite lacking formal education, Mr Nyame is resolute in his decision to seek the position of Member of Parliament (MP), emphasizing his capability to contribute meaningfully to parliamentary proceedings.

When questioned about his educational background, Mr Nyame acknowledged the absence of formal education but asserted that he possesses practical knowledge that can be valuable in parliamentary deliberations.

“What you are saying is the truth but it is not about the schooling, but the sense that you can make on the floor of parliament to convince the speaker on topical issues,” he said.

Addressing concerns about his ability to engage in legislative discussions, Mr Nyame revealed his approach. “I will need an aide, so I will employ an aide who is an expert in financial economics to brief me on proceedings. If the person briefs me, why can’t I talk on the floor of parliament?” he asserted.

In an interview on Hello FM on November 15, 2023, Mr Nyame defended his candidacy by emphasizing his active participation in the Bekwai constituency. He elaborated on his consistent attendance at various community events and funerals, underscoring his familiarity with local affairs.

Mr Nyame noted that the choice of the incumbent MP, Joseph Osei Owusu, not to seek re-election has resulted in a vacant position in the constituency, motivating him to step forward as a candidate.

“I have served in the Bekwai constituency very well, that is where I vote, and I’m always present at every funeral and program. Hon Joe Wise has made a decision not to contest again so the seat has been made vacant and we have to step in,” he added.

VIDEO: Moment when Ken Agyapong snubbed NPP MP in parliament, ignored and refused handshake

As the anticipation for Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s 2024 Budget presentation mounted in Parliament on Wednesday, 15th November 2023, an unexpected incident unfolded involving MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong. In a candid video, Agyapong was captured declining a handshake from a fellow NPP MP who appeared eager to greet him.

Present in the company of Dr. Kingsley Nyarko, MP for Kwadaso constituency, and Ernest Yaw Anim, the Member of Parliament for Kumawu, as well as two other MPs whose identities were unclear in the video, the tension between Agyapong and his colleague became palpable.

Despite receiving handshakes from others, Agyapong conspicuously ignored one specific MP, sparking speculation about the nature of their relationship and the cause of the apparent rift. The video has left many wondering about the underlying reasons for such a chilly and tense encounter within the NPP ranks.

Public opinions on Agyapong’s actions diverged, with some praising his straightforwardness, commending him for not pretending to be on good terms with those he might have differences with. On the other hand, critics argued that such behavior was unbecoming, especially for someone aspiring to the presidency of Ghana.

Comments on the video posted on Facebook by TV3 reflected the divided sentiments:

Kyei Baffour Tenkorang: “But that’s not leadership— everybody can’t be on your side. Competition is very much allowed in politics. After elections are over, friendship continues.”

Issah Yahaya: “Ken has gained my respect, I swear! God even likes those who don’t pretend. Well done Ken.”

Amy Gyenkel: “I just love this man, plain and no-nonsense person. They don’t know shame; after all, they did, they still want to get close. No entertaining them jor.”

Sumang Kavini: “I love his straightforwardness. Some of the MPs are hypocrites and ungrateful. I can’t wait for him to field his candidates in those constituencies to give them a real showdown.”

Nana Asare Edmund Hillary: “Gross immaturity, and people are praising this? Can you imagine this person wants to be a president? I like Ken as a person but sometimes he behaves too immature. If you want to be a president, you must learn to tolerate everybody who is a Ghanaian, including those who don’t like you.”

Enock Mensah Mega: “Some of his biggest political enemies were Koku Anyidoho, Muntaka, Kofi Adams, and Asiedu Nketia, but he’s best buddies with them today. What’s more mature than that? His problem is not about his colleague MPs not supporting him oo. His problem is those MPs he personally helped financially, gave them logistics and campaigned for them in their various constituencies to become MPs even as late as 2am risking his life, those were the same MPs who went out there in public to DISGRACE him, INSULT him, DISRESPECT him, and LIED about him all in the name of politics. Besides, he has the right to choose who he’ll greet or shake hands.”

‘You decided to go solo so leave NPP alone!’ – Alan advised

Managing Director of the State Transport Company (STC), Nana Akomea, has advised Alan Kyerematen, who has recently resigned from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to focus on his solo mission and refrain from making unnecessary comments about the NPP and its flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Nana Akomea, who is also a member of the NPP’s communications team, made this statement on Peace FM’s morning show “Kokrokoo” on November 15, 2023. He was responding to criticisms from Alan Kyerematen directed at Dr Bawumia, who was elected as the NPP’s flagbearer for the 2024 polls on November 4, 2023.

Alan Kyerematen, during an event organised by his ‘Movement for Change’ team in the Ashanti Region, asserted that there was no distinction between the Presidency and the Vice Presidency, implying that Dr Bawumia had nothing new to offer Ghanaians.

Nana Akomea described Alan Kyerematen’s remarks as “blows” that were unnecessary and could provoke retaliation from the NPP. He said that Alan Kyerematen should respect his decision to go solo and leave the NPP and Dr Bawumia alone.

“If you have decided to go solo, it’s okay. Nobody stopped you, though we wished you would come back to us. But these blows you are throwing at the NPP are unnecessary; if you do that, then someone also would have to respond to you, and it will look like we are also hitting at you. We don’t want that, so we plead with him to stop it,” Nana Akomea said.

He also urged Alan Kyerematen to communicate his message and vision for Ghanaians through his movement, rather than attacking the NPP and Dr Bawumia.

“We plead with him to focus on his activities. He should concentrate on his message and vision for Ghanaians…He should leave the NPP and our flagbearer alone so that we don’t also retaliate in like manner. He should do his campaign in peace,” Nana Akomea added.

Alan Kyerematen, who was initially part of the NPP contest, resigned from the party after placing third in a super delegates election held to reduce the number of contenders from 10 to five.

He accused the party’s leadership of manipulating the electoral process in favour of the vice president. He then formed his own movement, which he said was aimed at bringing change to Ghana.

Former Minister for Information, Fritz Baffour, has shed light on why former President Jerry John Rawlings did not see eye to eye with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Mr Baffour, the late Rawlings strongly opposed the ideology of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) main political rival, because it identified itself as a property-owning party.

During an interview with Kafui Dey on the third anniversary of Rawlings’ passing on November 12, 2020, Mr Baffuor said, “He was a man of the people, and this was a property-owning party, but he realised that there was hope because this was a democratic process and there was a chance that we would win power back.”

He added, “He (Rawlings) believed that this was a developing country, and so everybody had to have the opportunity to be successful at whatever they were doing. If you had a property-owning democracy, they’d be more selfish with the fact that they are looking for their properties; they’d protect their properties against human beings.”

The late President Jerry John Rawlings established the National Democratic Congress (NDC) with a foundational commitment to social democracy, emphasizing values such as probity and accountability.

These principles originated during the revolutionary era when Rawlings led a military junta to power in 1981.On

On its website, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) describes itself as a centre-right and liberal conservative party in Ghana with the symbol of an African elephant.

“The party was founded on 28th July, 1992, with the aim of bringing together like-minded citizens of the country so that they may strive for Freedom and Justice by the appreciation and protection of human rights and the rule of law through the practice of true democracy; to build in this country a free and democratic system of government under which all citizens will be able to contribute to the welfare, peace, and prosperity of our nation and keep its people free from dictatorship, and oppression,” the website further adds.

Anyone who doesn’t support Bawumia is no longer an NPP member – JFK

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, also known as JFK, has announced that any party member aligning with the founder of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, or any other candidate, will automatically forfeit their party membership.

Mr. Frimpong clarified in an interview on Neat FM that the party’s regulations explicitly prohibit supporting independent candidates when there is an officially endorsed party candidate, which, in this case, is Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“Anyone who stands as an independent candidate against the officially elected member of the party or who joins or declares support for another political party or an independent candidate, when the party has sponsored a candidate in a general election or bye-election, automatically forfeits his or her membership of the party,” he said.

He added: “You are aware that not long ago, Alan Kyerematen wrote a letter to us expressing his desire to withdraw from the party. As per this policy, he is affected so it means that he is no longer part of the party.

“We have seen certain videos of people following him and claiming they will vote for both him and the NPP Parliamentary candidate. I will release a letter to such individuals to make it clear that the forfeiture policy is in effect within the party. They are no longer party members.”

His remarks follow a viral image showing Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Adentan, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, adorned in Alan Kyerematen campaign gear during a Movement For Change event.

Despite Alan Kyerematen’s resignation from the party and decision to run independently, Buaben Asamoa did not announce his departure from the NPP.

The recent statements from the NPP General Secretary confirm that Buaben Asamoa is no longer recognized as an NPP member for not supporting the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

In the party’s presidential election on November 4, Dr. Bawumia secured the flagbearer position for the 2024 general elections with 61.43 percent of the votes.

Don’t count yourself an NPP member if you publicly support Alan – General Secretary

General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has declared that any member of the party who aligns with the founder of Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, or any other candidate will lose their party membership automatically.

Mr Frimpong, in an interview on Neat FM, explained that the party’s regulations expressly forbid supporting independent candidates when there is an officially endorsed party candidate, who in this case is Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

His comments come after Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Adentan Yaw Buaben Asamoa was sighted in a viral image adorning an Alan campaign gear during a Movement For Change event.

After Alan Kyerematen resigned from the party in September due to some challenges with the NPP’s electoral process, among others, and announced his decision to run as an independent candidate, Mr Asamoa did not ditch the former Trade Minister, nor did he announce his exit from the party.

The recent comments from the NPP General Secretary now confirm that Mr Buaben Asamoa is no longer recognized as an NPP member for failing to support the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia won the New Patriotic Party’s presidential election, securing the party’s nomination for the 2024 general elections after a total of 203,439 delegates participated in the election held on November 4.

Dr. Bawumia received 118,210 votes, constituting 61.43 percent of the total, while Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong garnered 71,991 votes (37.41 percent). Former Agriculture Minister Dr. Afriyie Akoto obtained 1,459 votes (0.76 percent), and former Mampong MP Frimpong Addai-Nimoh secured 781 votes, representing 0.41 percent.

You’ll be in for a shocker if you dare prioritise elections over economy – Franklin Cudjoe tells govt

President of the policy think-tank IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has urged the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to focus on resolving the nation’s economic issues rather than relying on regional sentiments.

Mr Cudjoe emphasized that emphasizing Dr. Bawumia’s Northern heritage might not benefit the party’s 2024 election prospects. He highlighted the presence of two Northerners in the race, noting that it would be the responsibility of the people to discern and select the candidate who prioritizes their needs and development.

“If the NPP relies on that and thinks that will become an electoral advantage, and forget about the larger issues of the economy or governance, they will be in for a shocker. I think it is important that we don’t necessarily dwell on sectarian politics.

“I admit that these things play a role, even in global politics…but I think it is important that we move away from this kind of thing because already it is driving a certain trend that I’m not in favour of,” he was quoted by citinewsroom.com.

The Deputy Majority Chief Whip, Alhaji Habib Iddrisu, highlighted that the backing for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia isn’t merely due to his Northern heritage.

He emphasized that the Vice President is not the initial Northerner to stand for election within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), dismissing any tribal inclinations.

“When you see all of us rallying behind Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, it is not because he’s a Northerner because he is not the first, not the second, not the third Northerner to have ever wanted to be the flagbearer of the party,” he said.

NPP Parliamentary primaries to take place on Jan. 20

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has declared that the parliamentary primaries for its 174 constituencies represented in parliament are scheduled for January 20, 2024.

In an official statement, the party announced the commencement of nominations for the primary elections, set to run from December 20, 2023, to December 22, 2023.

“The National Executive Committee has also rescheduled the date for the conduct of the Party’s Parliamentary Primaries in Constituencies where the Party has sitting MPs. The new date for the conduct of the primaries is 20th January, 2023.

“Nomination shall open on 20th December, 2023, and close on 22nd December, 2023. The Party shall soon issue detailed guidelines to govern the conduct of the primaries in these Constituencies,” part of the statement, which was issued by the General Secretary of the party, Justin Frimpong Koduah, reads.

“The Party anticipates the full cooperation of all stakeholders in the conduct of the primaries and wishes all aspiring candidates the best of luck,” it added.

The party also disclosed its plans to conduct the parliamentary primaries for constituencies without representation in parliament, termed “orphan constituencies,” on December 2, 2023.

This decision was reached during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Friday, November 10, 2023. Additionally, the party confirmed that vetting for parliamentary aspirants in these constituencies is scheduled to take place from November 14, 2023, to November 16, 2023.

‘The presidency and vice presidency are one and the same’ – Alan Kyerematen

Former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen emphasized the inseparable nature of the presidency and the vice presidency, contending that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia should be seen as a single entity.

He made these remarks during an event organized by his political group, the Movement for Change (MFC), in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, earlier this week.

In what appears to be a response to Vice President Bawumia’s recent nomination as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Alan Kyerematen asserted that Bawumia assuming the role of flagbearer would make little difference.

According to him, despite Bawumia’s seven-year tenure in government, Ghana continues to grapple with an economic downturn, implying that the change in leadership may not necessarily bring about the anticipated improvements.

“Almost eight years on, the presidency and the vice presidency is one ticket… there’s no difference between the presidency and the vice presidency, they are one and the same, it is a combined ticket.

“So, whatever my younger brother Bawumia wants and can do, he has done already,” he said to cheers from hundreds of his supporters.

Leading the NPP into the 2024 elections, Bawumia will compete against former president John Dramani Mahama, the opposition candidate. A few weeks after leaving the NPP due to what he considered to be undemocratic actions following an internal flagbearer election, Alan also declared his candidacy.

NPP to hold Extraordinary Constituency Delegates Conference on Dec. 2

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has slated Saturday, December 2, 2023, to hold an Extraordinary Constituency Delegates Conference.

This decision was reached during a meeting by the National Executive Committee (NEC) and aims to elect the party’s Parliamentary Candidates in constituencies where the NPP currently lacks parliamentary representation.

According to a press statement released on Friday, November 10, and signed by the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the vetting process for aspiring Parliamentary candidates in these constituencies will take place in the regional capitals from Tuesday, November 14, to Thursday, November 16, 2023.

The statement also instructed the Regional Executive Committees to convey the dates, times, and venues for the vetting process to their respective constituencies and aspiring parliamentary candidates.

The Extraordinary Constituency Delegates Conference is intended for all Orphan Constituencies, except for Ketu North, Akatsi North, Yilo Krobo, Jomoro, Fomena, and Bawku Central.

Furthermore, the NEC has modified the date for the party’s Parliamentary Primaries in constituencies where incumbent Members of Parliament (MPs) are in office. The updated date for these primaries is January 20, 2023, with the nomination period commencing on December 20, 2023, and concluding on December 22, 2023.

“The party shall soon issue detailed guidelines to govern the conduct of the primaries in these constituencies,” the statement said.

The party expressed hope for the cooperation of all stakeholders in ensuring the success of the primaries and extended best wishes to all aspiring candidates.

  • I have not left NPP – Hopeson Adorye

Former Security Coordinator at Kotoka International Airport (KIA), Hopeson Adorye, has revealed that he has divided his support between Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr Adorye, previously a staunch advocate for the former Minister of Trade and Industry, acknowledges his past allegiance but now holds loyalty to both entities.

“I am going to vote for Alan Kyerematen on December 7, 2024, and then parliamentary I will give it to my party NPP. If they don’t want it, I can take the two [vote],” he told JoyNews.

He made the statement after gracing the Greater Accra Volunteer Activation event organised by Movement for Change on Wednesday.

Even though he openly backed the independent presidential candidacy of the former NPP member, Mr. Adorye maintains his unwavering allegiance to the NPP.

“I am a party member, even this week, I have paid my dues. If they want to say we don’t need you, they will just calculate my dues and give it to me,” he said.

Mr. Kyeremanten declared his departure from the NPP on September 25, establishing the Movement for Change. Within this movement, he introduced the Great Transformational Plan (GTP), expressing confidence that it will effectively combat poverty and foster prosperity within the nation.

Spend at least 10 days in the constituencies to build trust again – Kwamena Duncan advises NPP

Many Ghanaians, including executives, constituents and members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have lost trust in the current government and its leadership, former Central Regional Secretary for the NPP, Kwamena Duncan, has warned.

He discovered this after several engagements and discourses with some executives and constituents and has realised that people are harbouring what he describes as “dangerous thoughts” against the party.

“Kwame, now we are done with our presidential primaries, but I must tell you that we must roll up our sleeves.

“But parties must organise constituency durbars, durbars upon durbars, because a certain seed of mistrust, a certain seed of incitement has happened down there, against leadership against the government, MPs, CEOs and protest votes.”

“After my engagements and interactions with some executives and constituents, people are harbouring very dangerous thoughts.
It is dangerous, Kwame,” he noted.

Kwamena, during a discussion with Kwame Sefa-Kayi on Peace FM’s morning show on November 9, 2023, mentioned that party officers should flood constituencies nationwide to organise a series of durbars spending at least 10 days in the constituencies to enhance engagements and mingling in order to gain their trust again.

He has advised the NPP to wake up after its immediate past primaries but to sit up and win the constituencies as the party is gradually losing its grip in the constituencies.

He said, “So, national officers—the officers themselves. It will be required of them to visit every constituency and organise durbars, even as a way of engaging them .The waters down there must be calmed

“The party members must be engaged with what has gone on and what has been based in their minds must take place.”

Roll up your sleeves, there’s mistrust against you in the constituencies – Kwamena Duncan urges NPP

Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ghana and former Central Regional Minister of Ghana, Kwame Duncan, has cautioned his party to make efforts to calm what he calls disgruntled party executives and members as they have lost trust in the government and CEOs, among others.

On his part, a seed of range and contempt has taken root in these members and, if left unchecked, will leave a huge dent.  He said the foundations of the party are “vigorously shaking.”

“I must say that the very foundations of this part are vigorously shaking. Kwame, now we are done with our presidential primaries, but I must tell you that we must roll up our sleeves,” he said.

After extensive interactions with constituents and party executives, Kwamena Duncan has observed that many members harbour “dangerous thoughts” that could negatively impact the NPP in the upcoming elections.

To address this, the former regional secretary suggested, during a discussion with Kwame Sefa-Kayi on Peace FM’s morning show on November 9, 2023, that constituency officers and chairmen should organise multiple durbars to improve engagement with constituents.

He warned that failure to do so might result in “protest votes,” emphasising the importance of proactive measures to maintain party unity and support.

“After my engagements and interactions with some executives and constituents, people are harbouring very dangerous thoughts.  It is dangerous, Kwame.

“So national officers, the  officers themselves. It will be required of them to visit every constituency and organise durbars, even as a way of engaging them,” he added.

Very soon it will all be over – NPP general secretary on Ghana’s hardships

The General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has provided assurance to the people of Ghana that the prevailing economic challenges in the country will soon be resolved.

He expressed confidence that the NPP, as a political party, possesses the necessary capabilities to address and improve the economic situation.

These statements were made during his address at a press conference where he unveiled the details of the NPP’s presidential elections scheduled for November 4.

“When it comes to managing Ghana’s economy, our opponents do not have a comparable record. It is the case that today, the NDC feels emboldened because COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine War have vanquished the gains we made immediately upon taking over on January 7, 2017.”

He said, “Under President John Agyekum Kufuor, from January 7th, 2001, to January 7th, 2009, the NPP pulled Ghana’s economy out of the stagnation the NDC left.

“Again, under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, we grew the economy by an average of 7 percent from another NDC stagnation for three consecutive years before the disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia’s war in Ukraine.

The truth is that we are fixing the economy, and soon the hardships of today will be history. The assurance to Ghanaians that we will regenerate the economy is manifest in our record.”

“Any person found directing a delegate on which contestant to vote commits an offence and shall be removed by the police,” the guidelines said.

It said the EC and the police “shall enforce and adhere to restricting delegates from taking their phones and other electronic photographic gadgets to the voting scene”, and that any vote that had been shown to the public would be nullified.

“The police has also been directed to deny and arrest influencers,’machomen’, and undesignated persons,” it added.

The guidelines also directed presiding officers not to call out the names of delegates in the queue to vote, adding that individuals would walk to the officials and they would be assisted to vote accordingly.

    Other measures

The NPP General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, at a meeting with the four aspirants and leaders of the party in Accra last Thursday, also announced that because the constituency council of elders and the constituency council of patrons were not part of the electoral college, the PEC had decided to make the chairmen of the two organs oversee the constituency elections.

“They are the ones to supervise the elections at the constituency, and no officer of the party, be it constituency officer or regional officer, will have any power to interfere in the work of this committee. The police, the EC and the aspirants will be dealing directly with this committee,” he added.

He said suspended members of the party, whose cases had not been dealt with by the disciplinary committee, would be allowed to vote.

However, if the committee had recommended sanctions and upheld them, the person would not be allowed to vote.

He announced that all members of the party, whether they had paid up their dues fully or not, must be allowed to cast their ballot.

‘We will find out soon enough’, even you know it wouldn’t be easy – Ursula to Kennedy Agyapong

Member of Parliament for the Ablekuma West Constituency, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has asserted that her constituency will deliver a clear message to New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong about his standing within the constituency following the conclusion of the party’s presidential election.

Ursula has stated that the key influencers in the constituency have pledged their support to flagbearer hopeful Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and are fully committed to the “DMB project.”

She further expressed confidence that Bawumia will secure an overwhelming victory in the constituency, earning nothing less than 80% of the total votes.

“I know what the kingmakers in this constituency have told me. We have had an extensive conversation with them and they’ve told us that they are fully aligned and behind the DMB project. So we are just waiting to see by what margin he wins in this constituency,” she told Joy News.

“We will find out soon enough. Nothing less than 80%,” she added.

The Minister of Communications and Digitalization also noted that Kenedy Agyapong is aware that outwitting Bawumia looks impossible.

“At the end of the day, everybody will see their smoothness level in this constituency. Even he knows that it will be a really, really uphill task for him to change what has already been ordained.

“We’ve been working here for a long time. We’ve lived with our constituents for a long time. We’ve engaged with them; we’ve spoken to them and they’ve told us what their concerns are and what their expectations are.”

The NPP is on the verge of selecting a new flagbearer to succeed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the party’s leader for the 2024 general election.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimoh are the candidates vying for the leadership role.

The eagerly awaited presidential primaries are scheduled for today, November 4, 2023.

NPP polls: This is wrong – Asiedu Nketiah blasts NPP’s MoU to prevent flagbearers from quitting party

The National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has voiced criticism against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for requiring its flagbearer hopefuls to sign an agreement promoting unity and cooperation before, during, and after the party’s presidential election, scheduled for November 4.

The decision to have the four NPP flagbearer aspirants sign a four-page Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was reached following discussions between the National Council of Elders and the aspirants.

The purpose of this agreement is to establish a framework for fostering harmony and solidarity within the party.

However, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has raised questions about the wisdom of such an agreement.

He expressed concerns about the potential consequences of preventing candidates from voicing grievances if they believe they have been treated unfairly during the election process.

He also expressed surprise that legal experts within the party were involved in drafting the MoU, as it implies that, once signed, the agreement automatically resolves all potential disputes and conflicts.

“Who can make laws in this country that, if you are being cheated, you shouldn’t complain? Apart from command institutions like the military, where action is taken before complaining, in the free world, I am surprised that great lawyers sat down to draft this MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) that, when signed, becomes the solution,” he said.

He continued, “I believe that is not the right approach. I am urging them that if there are issues that their candidates have raised, they need to address them. This will ensure peace after the post-election period.”

A document obtained by GhanaWeb contains six clauses, with four of them being central to the process. These key clauses include the acceptance of primary election results, the promotion of peace and unity, a commitment not to resign from the party, and a pledge to support the eventual winner.

The remaining two clauses pertain to the enforcement mechanisms of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and its timeline and duration, which span from the moment it was signed until the announcement of the election’s winner.

All four aspirants who attended the meeting, along with the Chair of the Elections Committee, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, and his vice and secretary, affixed their signatures to the document.

Following the meeting, Justin Frimpong Koduah, the General Secretary of the NPP, addressed the press and explained that the aspirants have committed to embracing the primary election results while prioritising the party’s interests.

“We were able to get all four aspirants to sign an undertaking, and in summary, they are to accept the primary results and promote peace and cohesion. If they don’t win, they will not resign from the party and will support the winner of the primary,” Koduah stated.

Additionally, the aspirants have agreed to “ensure and enforce mechanisms that have been established by the party and also work within the timelines and duration that have been established by the party from now until the results are declared, and to respect the decision of the delegates of our party.”

Saturday’s presidential primaries are expected to be a closely watched event, with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia tipped by many as the front-runner in the race.

His main contender is Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central, while former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and former Mampong MP, Francis Addai-Nimoh, are also in the race for the flagbearer position.

NPP polls: Money sharing during polls, a cause for worry – Dr Asah Asante

Political science lecturer at the University of Ghana Legon, Dr. Asah Asante, has expressed concern about the prevalence of financial inducements in Ghana’s political landscape.

In the run-up to the crucial election, the two main contenders, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is seeking to lead the party in the 2024 general election, and the Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong, have engaged in mutual allegations.

Incidents of vote-buying have arisen in the lead-up to the presidential primaries of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking on the Morning Starr with Francis Abban, the political science lecturer stated: “In a democracy, our leaders’ decisions they take, the ideas they draw out—if we listen to them and we are satisfied, we go with that and we go ahead and vote them into office.

“We only get there and we are given transport or we demand transport intended for that purpose”.

“For me, it is a worrying development; for me, that is something we are not doing right. So people have developed this thing to the point that whoever is able to give more has more people attending to you. Because obviously, everybody needs money in this state”.

“But if there is somebody who will give you more, why would you want to waste your time on another who will give you less? So that is what is happening,” he added.

Dr. Asante further stated that the sharing of money among delegates in the upcoming NPP presidential primaries is across the board and not by any particular candidate.

NDC being an alternative for NPP is scary – Stephen Ntim

National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Stephen Ntim, has expressed no sign of hope for the recovery should the ruling party be taken out of power.

The political system in Ghana is dominated by two political parties; NPP and the National Democratic Congress. The NPP, under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo has governed for 8 years.

Since 2000, no political party has had the opportunity to govern for more than 8 years concurrently.

On this matter, Mr Ntim says the ruling party must be given the opportunity to continue its works. According to him, the NDC, tipped to be the party that replaces the NPP, has nothing good to offer.

“The alternative to an NPP government is scary, and the alternative to us is empty. These statements are valid because the NDC has not put forth any policy ideas to address the youth unemployment challenge, which is the preoccupation of governments worldwide,” he said.

He made this remark during a joint press conference with the National Executive Committee and the Council of Elders at the Alisa Hotel in Accra on November 2.

On Saturday, November 4, 2023, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to select its flagbearer for the upcoming December 2024 general elections.

This marks a significant transition as President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who has led the party for the past 16 years, prepares to pass the leadership baton. The NPP’s choice for the 2024 presidential race will also determine its new leader.

Four candidates have thrown their hats into the ring: Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, former Minister of Food and Agriculture; Kennedy Agyapong, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Assin Central in the Central Region; and Francis Addai Nimoh, the former Member of Parliament for Mampong Constituency in the Ashanti Region.

  • NPP Chair calls on members to maintain discipline to win 2024 election

NPP Chair calls on members to maintain discipline to win 2024 election

National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Stephen Ntim, has emphasized the need for unity among party members following the presidential primaries scheduled for November 4, 2023.

He urged party faithful to come together and support the candidate who emerges as the winner in the internal polls.

Mr Ntim highlighted the importance of internal party cohesion and discipline as essential factors for the NPP to secure a third consecutive term in office in the December 2024 general elections.

He made these remarks during a joint press conference with the National Executive Committee and the Council of Elders at the Alisa Hotel in Accra on November 2.

“Saturday, November 4th, is crucial for the New Patriotic Party. By the close of the day on Saturday, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who has admirably led our party for 16 successful years, will perform the first of two handovers: first to one of the four aspirants who emerged victorious to succeed him as the leader of the party and second, to that same leader and flagbearer of the NPP, to succeed him as the President of the Republic of Ghana on January 7, 2025.”

“This is the nature and consequence of the November 4th flagbearer election. We are determined to win a third term because the development of Ghana depends on an NPP victory in the 2024 general elections. That victory begins this Saturday, and every member of this party has something significant to do with it. It requires that we are disciplined as a party. Failure to be disciplined, ensure internal peace and cohesion, and be responsive to our mandate will gravely imperil our electoral prospects,” Mr. Stephen Ntim said.

Emphasizing the potential harm that disunity and internal divisions can inflict on the NPP’s chances in the December 2024 elections, Chairman Ntim recounted the 2008 general elections and the factors contributing to the NPP’s painful defeat after leading the first round of voting with “49.13 percent of the total valid votes cast.”

“The most painful part of that experience is that we lost the presidential election in the second round after we had increased our votes by 321,000, whereas all we needed to win in the first round was a little over 100,000 votes.

“In other words, we gifted the NDC the elections in 2008 because our people did not come out to vote in the first round. We are at the same point today, and some of the factors that led to us losing the election in 2008 are rearing their ugly heads,” Mr. Ntim candidly observed.

“One of the chief contributors to our defeat in the 2008 general elections is the lack of unity of purpose or internal cohesion. We cannot afford to be disunited even briefly after the results are declared on Saturday. We must guard against any conduct, actions, or inactions likely to take us on a path of apathy and disunity,” the NPP National Chairman further cautioned.

During his speech, Mr. Ntim acknowledged the intense competition in the 2023 flagbearer election and recognized that a significant amount of debate and competition has transpired.

To that end, he called on the entire NPP fraternity “to wipe the slate clean and approach the Saturday, November 4 presidential primaries with a commitment to work together and support whoever emerges as the party’s leader and flagbearer.”

“There can only be one flagbearer at a time. I fondly recall the enthusiasm and unity that characterized our approach to the 1996 and 2000 elections. It was apparent we wanted to win as a party. But the height of enthusiasm and conviction with which we canvassed for victory in the 2000 general elections has waned considerably, and we must reignite it now,” Mr. Ntim said.

“The alternative to an NPP government is scary, and the alternative to us is empty. These statements are valid because the NDC has not put forth any policy ideas to address the youth unemployment challenge, which is the preoccupation of governments worldwide,” he added.

Traders express support for Bawumia as part of NPP’s “break the eight” plan

A group of NPP supporters at the Kejetia, central, and race-course markets in Kumasi, known as ‘Kumasi Central, Kejetia and Race-Course Traders for Bawumia,’ has declared their unwavering support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s leadership in the party.

Their primary objective is to assist the NPP in maintaining power in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

These traders firmly believe that Dr. Bawumia possesses the track record and capability to secure victory and break the eight-year rule jinx.

They have urged party delegates in the upcoming presidential primary to rally behind Dr. Bawumia and lead the party to success in the 2024 general elections.

Elder Emmanuel Gyekyi, Chairman of the group, emphasized Dr. Bawumia’s outstanding performance as Vice President, highlighting his ability to steer the country and continue the development agenda initiated by the Nana Akufo Addo government.

He stated that Dr. Bawumia had demonstrated his capacity to sustain the ongoing transformation and development momentum in the country.

Elder Gyekyi stressed that traders in the markets, who represent the grassroots of the party, have strong faith in Dr. Bawumia’s leadership to lead the party to victory in the 2024 general elections. He called on the delegates to prioritize the broader interests of national development over personal gains.

Hajia Hawa, the Women Organizer of the group, conveyed that customers who visit the market consistently express their belief in Dr. Bawumia’s ability to lead the party to triumph.

She appealed to the delegates not to be swayed by propaganda and to remain loyal to the Vice President, who has played a significant role in transforming the country alongside Nana Akufo Addo.

Nana Yaa Dufie, one of the queens at the central market, expressed that all the queens in various markets are eager for Dr. Bawumia to lead the NPP to victory in the 2024 elections. She called for unity among party supporters to ensure that the party emerges stronger from the primaries and secures victory in the 2024 general elections.

  • NPP primaries will only make us stronger – General Secretary

NPP primaries will only make us stronger – General Secretary

General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has expressed his optimism regarding the party’s ability to remain united following the November 4 election to select the party’s presidential candidate for the 2024 election.

He believes that the party can reconcile its members and stay focused on its goal of ‘breaking the 8.’

Kodua made these remarks during an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story on Thursday, November 2. This statement comes in the context of the party’s efforts to prevent post-election divisions by requiring all four presidential aspirants, namely Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Francis Addai-Nimoh, and Dr. Afriyie Akoto, to sign a strict legal commitment.

This commitment means that these aspirants cannot resign from the party in case they lose the elections on Saturday. This decision was reached during a meeting between the National Council of Elders and the aspirants.

When asked whether the presidential aspirants have been genuine in their commitment to this undertaking, Mr Kodua responded affirmatively.

“Absolutely, from what happened today, it was very genuine and I can tell you that the NPP will come from this November 4 election stronger,” he said.

Following the signing of the commitment, Mr. Frimpong Kodua addressed the press at Alisa Hotel. He highlighted that the candidates have also reached an agreement to acknowledge and accept the election results. He further emphasized that the commitment will be rigorously enforced.

“The New Patriotic Party today has had a very successful meeting involving all the major stakeholders in the party including President Akufo-Addo and former President Kufuor.”

“At the meeting, all four aspirants were made to sign an undertaking to the effect that they would not resign from the party should they not win the elections. They have also signed an undertaking to support the winner of the primaries for the party to win the 2024 main elections”, Mr Kodua said.

  • Suspended party members to vote in NPP flagbearership race – General Secretary

Suspended party members to vote in NPP flagbearership race – General Secretary

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Koduah, provided clarification on the voting rights of party members who have been suspended, particularly in the context of the upcoming presidential primaries.

Koduah explained that suspended members are entitled to cast their votes either before they face a disciplinary committee or while the disciplinary process is still ongoing.

This approach is guided by the fundamental principle of presuming innocence until a final verdict is reached in their respective cases.

He conveyed this information during a press conference held in Accra in anticipation of the NPP’s presidential primaries scheduled for November 4.

“Per our party constitution, what this presupposes is that a person can be suspended before appearing before a disciplinary committee or when a disciplinary committee would have been initiated.

“But as a rule and in line with that rule of law, there is what we refer to as the presumption of innocence until a matter is determined. So whereby a person has been suspended under this provision, has not gone through a disciplinary committee and they have also not come out with the verdict and recommended their verdict to the constituency executives, such person will vote,” he stated.

This means that any individual who has been suspended and has not yet appeared before a disciplinary committee or is currently undergoing a disciplinary committee trial without a final judgement will be eligible to vote.

However, those who have undergone the disciplinary committee process, received recommendations, and faced sanctions that have been approved by the constituency executive committee will not retain their voting privileges.

Nevertheless, the General Secretary highlighted the possibility of conditional amnesty, where the constituency executive committee may consider granting clemency and reinstating the voting rights of suspended individuals based on the merits of their specific circumstances.

“However, where the person has gone through a disciplinary committee and the DC has come out with a recommendation and has submitted the same to the constituency executive committee and sanctions have been applied to the person, such a person shall not be entitled to vote. But also, under conditional amnesty, the constituency executive can look at the merit of their case and pardon such people to vote,” he added.

  • NPP presidential aspirants sign pact barring resignation from party after Nov. 4 primaries

NPP presidential aspirants sign pact barring resignation from party after Nov. 4 primaries

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has announced that the four candidates vying for the flagbearer position have signed an agreement barring any candidate from breaking away from the party after the November 4 primaries.

He made this known after a meeting by the NPP National Council of Elders held on November 2, 2023, that saw two main contenders, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, exchange pleasantries.

Mr Frimpong Kodua revealed that the candidates; Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Agric Minister, Dr Owusu Akoto Afriyie, former MP for Mampong Francis Addai-Nimoh, have signed an agreement stating that following the primaries, “candidates will accept election primary results, promote peace and cohesion.”

“In the event that they don’t win, they will not resign from the party. They will support the winner of the election primary. Ensure and enforce mechanisms established by the party and also to work within the timelines and durations that has been established by the party from now till the results are declared and to respect the decision by the delegate of our party,” he added.

This initiative is believed to be a lesson learnt by the ruling party after the exit of its former presidential aspirant and former Trade Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen.

On September 25, 2023, Mr Kyerematen announced his decision to break away from the party and run as an independent candidate in the upcoming 2024 elections.

Prior to this, on September 5, he declared his withdrawal from the presidential race, citing reasons such as electoral irregularities, unfair treatment, and bias during the super delegates’ conference held on August 26, 2023.

During the August 2023 Special Delegates conference, Alan secured a third-place position with fewer than 100 votes out of the total of over 900 votes.

On the matter, Mr Frimpong Kodua noted that the party had lost a great personality and was disappointed by the fact that Mr Kyerematen did not inform the leadership of the party of his decision before making his decision public.

Now ahead of the race, there have been speculations that one of the candidates, Kennedy Agyapong, who has faced off with some members of the party during his campaign, will exit the party should he not be elected flagbearer.

But the Assin Central MP has refuted this claim.

Over 208,000 delegates will cast their votes in all 270 constituencies across the country to choose one candidate from among the four aspirants.

The delegates, who constitute the Electoral College, include Members of Parliament, Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives, ministers and their deputies, founding members of the NPP, members of the party’s National Council, as well as patrons and council of elders.

The voting centres for the primaries include:  Western Sekondi Gyandu Park (Sekondi), Central Cape Coast South Robert Mensah Stadium, Korley Klottey YMCA (Greater Accra), Mawuli Senior High School (Volta Ho Central), SEC/TEC SCH ( Eastern New Juaben South, Koforidua), ST. Louis College of Education (Ashanti Manhyia South), John Bitar Club House Dwinasen 1 (Western North Sefwi Wiawso), Presby Primary A&B Goaso (Ahafo Asunafo North).

The others are: Bono Sunyani West Odomaseman SHS (Odomase), Bono East Techiman South S.D.A Primary School (Techiman), Dambai Training College (Oti Krachi East), Central Jubilee Park (Northern Tamale), Savannah Damongo Community Center (Damongo), Wa Technical School (Upper West Wa Municipal),  North East Nalerigu-Gambaga Zobzia Primary School (Gambaga) and House of Chiefs (Upper East Bolgatanga Central)

Mr Justin Frimpong Kodua has confirmed that all necessary preparations have been made to ensure a smooth and successful electoral process on Saturday.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, November 1, he mentioned that the NPP fully supports the Ghana Police Service in providing robust security for the election, with no interference or hindrance.

“And I also indicated our fullest support to the Ghana Police Service, that on Saturday they are in charge, they are supposed to make sure there is maximum security in and around where the voting will be taking place in all the 277 centers that we are going to have the election. On that day, I have also given them the assurance that as a party we will comport ourselves very well, and nobody even from the presidency to the national party will have the right to interfere with the work that will be done by the Electoral Commission or the Ghana Police Service.”

He added that, “Anyone who makes any attempt to cause any havoc or chaos there should be arrested by the Ghana Police Service. So, I am sure that the police will be up to the task and we are looking forward to have a very successful primary on Saturday.”

The General Secretary explained that all concerns related to the delegates’ album or register have been resolved, and all the aspirants are content with the resolution.

While aspirants have faced accusations of attempting to influence delegates through monetary means, they have consistently denied these claims, asserting that the funds are primarily provided to delegates for their transportation and meals.

Nonetheless, the General Secretary of the party has stated that anyone found engaging in any form of inducement at the voting locations will be handed over to the police. He underscored that the winner of the election will be determined by merit rather than financial influence.

“Some people will also be disappointed because I don’t know how about 203,00 delegates, as aspirant will be able to give maybe 200 cedis or 300 cedis to each of them. I believe the election on Saturday will be determined based on merit, based on the people’s perception and how an aspirant has been able to sell his message to the delegates. I don’t think ‘monecracy will play any role on Saturday. Our focus is to have a transparent election, and I can assure you money will not determine who will win the election.”

The delegates, who constitute the Electoral College, include Members of Parliament, Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives, ministers and their deputies, founding members of the NPP, members of the party’s National Council, as well as patrons and council of elders.

Additionally, the Electoral College encompasses regional party officials, constituency officials, constituency patrons, constituency elders, electoral area coordinators, polling station executives, overseas branches, and members of Tescon, the party’s tertiary students’ wing.

The delegates will have the opportunity to choose from among four aspirants, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, former Agriculture Minister Dr. Akoto Afriyie, and former MP Francis Addai-Nimo.

During an interview on JoyNews’ PM Express on November 2, the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Frimpong Kodua (JFK), confirmed that all necessary preparations have been made to ensure a smooth and successful electoral process on Saturday.

“With a few days left, I can tell you and the party’s rank and file that we are ready. The Electoral Commission is ready, the Ghana Police Service is also ready, and I believe that delegates and the aspirants themselves are also ready.”

He mentioned that the NPP fully supports the Ghana Police Service in providing robust security for the election, with no interference or hindrance.

“We have never had a perfect election in this world, and we always learn from the previous ones and improve on the future ones. About a week ago, the party, the Electoral Commission and the Ghana Police Service together with the aspirants, had a meeting at the Police headquarters, and we were all clear in our minds about the role that the Ghana Police Service will be playing on Saturday.

“The final album has now been given to the Electoral Commission to bring it on the day of the polls” Mr Kodua noted.

During the party’s super delegates’ conference, there were widespread allegations of financial inducement, especially when the number of aspirants was reduced to five before former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen’s resignation, leaving four contenders.

Our focus is to have a transparent election, and I can assure you money will not determine who will win the election.

He did emphasize, however, that any form of inducement occurring within the voting area will be reported to the police.

He also issued a stern warning that individuals attempting to reveal their voting choices from the booth and make them public will face legal consequences, including being reported to the police.

  • Kennedy Agyapong is not a man, he runs away when he sees me – Opare-Ansah

Kennedy Agyapong is not a man, he runs away when he sees me – Opare-Ansah

A member of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team, Frederick Opare-Ansah, has accused presidential aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong, of being a coward.

Frederick Opare-Ansah noted that, just like a barking dog never bites, Mr Agyapong has never been able to come face-to-face with individuals he has threatened or accused.

According to Frederick Opare-Ansah, Mr Agyapong has been careful enough not to include his name in his propaganda politics, but anything short of this will lead to fierce contention, which he believes will drive the Assin Central MP out of the Central Region.

In an interview on Wontumi radio, Frederick Opare-Ansah said: “If he jokes with me, I will sack him from his region. I will make him run away from his own constituency.

“If he has not heard about me, he should ask about me. Maybe he has not heard about me. I will be in Assin Central Nov 4, if he is a man he should meet me there. I am not going there with a fight, but he is saying …have you not heard some of his people record a video and threaten anyone who will vote against [Kennedy Agyapong] in the constituency.

“We too we have people over there who are prepared to vote for Dr [Bawumia]. I am also going over there to protect our people, with the police. Today we met with the police and this was part of the things we discussed.

“We told them that nobody can sit in this country and behave as if, no one can enter a particular town. If so would you ever be able to pass through Suhum? Kennedy. The other day when he went to Suhum, when he was speaking against me, they asked him to mention a name, if he had made a mistake and mentioned my name he would have seen what would have happened to him.”

He therefore asserted that “He (Kennedy Agyapong) is not a man.” “Kennedy Agyapong, when he meets me, runs away. He is not a man. When we talk about men in the NPP, is he recognized?,” he added.

In Frederick Opare-Ansah’s view, Mr Agyapong is on a personal mission where he seeks to benefit from everything at the expense of others. He also alleged that the Assin Central MP plans to destroy the ruling NPP, an alleged initiative he said would be contested fiercely.

“There are men in the NPP. no one is afraid of him. He shouldn’t think he can destroy the party. We will use this party to fix Ghana. All this while, your thinking is, if I’m not going to benefit, then it can person,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Mr Ken Agyapong has refuted claims that it has become his sole duty to destroy the party over his presidential ambitions.

  • Owusu-Bempah reveals what he did for Akufo-Addo and NPP before 2016 victory

Owusu-Bempah reveals what he did for Akufo-Addo and NPP before 2016 victory

Founder and leader of Glorious Word Power Ministry International, Reverend Isaac Owusu-Bempah, has in a candid interview on OkayFM with Kwame Nkrumah Tikese, host of ‘Ade Ahye Abia’, made some enlightening revelations regarding his interactions with some leaders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) before their 2016 election victory.

Reverend Owusu-Bempah confirmed that he consistently prayed for the NPP leaders and Nana Akufo-Addo, as well as Akufo-Addo’s wife, throughout a period of nine months leading up to the elections.

“It is true that, for nine months, I used to pray for the NPP leaders, thrice every week, and Nana Akufo-Addo was part of this process. His wife was also involved,” he disclosed.

Interestingly, he mentioned a promise made by Akufo-Addo’s wife, who assured him of a church building as a token of gratitude should they win the elections. He recalled her words: “If, by God’s grace, we win the 2016 elections, we will build your church for you.” To which he replied, “Glory be to God.”

Despite the promise, Owusu-Bempah expressed no hard feelings over the unmaterialised pledge. “However, I did not rely on or excessively expect it. That’s why I am not concerned and have never complained, and I never will,” he stated.

The clergyman also clarified that his prayers were not a quid pro quo for the promised church building. “In any case, I did not support them with prayers in exchange for a pledge to build my church if they won. They made the promise themselves, not me. So, I am not worried if it didn’t happen,” he explained.

He underscored his ultimate faith in divine rather than human promises. “If people make promises to me, I don’t rely on them. I look up to God because only His promises are sacred,” Owusu-Bempah affirmed.

Emphasizing his principled approach to ministry and finances, Owusu-Bempah shared his philosophy regarding monetary contributions. “Because it is God’s temple, and in His own time, He will glorify His name. I am also someone who doesn’t like to forcefully extract money from people. I am very disciplined in that regard,” he asserted.

Addressing speculations about any resentment due to unfulfilled promises, he categorically dismissed such claims. “…to say that I aligned myself with the NPP or did something for Akufo-Addo expecting him to build my church if he won, and that I am now bitter because it didn’t happen, is far from the truth,” he remarked.

Although the promise was not kept, Owusu-Bempah maintains a steadfast affection for the party and its leaders. “If they had done it for me, I would have thanked God. If they didn’t, I still love them. The love I had for them from the beginning remains the same,” he commented, adding that he continues to pray for Akufo-Addo.

“I don’t even entertain such thoughts. If they had done it for me, I would have thanked God. If they didn’t, I still love them. The love I had for them from the beginning remains the same. Whenever I kneel down in prayer, I still remember him [Akufo-Addo] in my prayers,” he said.

Owusu-Bempah, however says, he has decided not to indulge in any future engagements with Akufo-Addo and his close circle.

“However, I no longer approach him, and even if they request my presence, I will not go,” he said, noting that past attendances were out of respect for others, not due to any political affiliations.

“No matter how many times they ask, I will not go. There was one occasion when I was summoned, and out of respect for the person who requested my presence, I went. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have gone. That’s the truth. There was a time when I was invited, and I went because of the archbishop, not because of them. I didn’t even know they would be there. When I arrived, the vice president and several other people were present. If I had known they would be there, I wouldn’t have gone.” he noted.

  • NPP is putting up weak candidates for the first time – Prof Mensah

NPP is putting up weak candidates for the first time – Prof Mensah

Political Marketing Strategist, Prof. Kobby Mensah, has remarked that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lacks strong candidates for the upcoming 2024 election.

This assessment stems from the underperformance of two out of four candidates during their respective roles in the current government.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, Prof. Mensah pointed out that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former Food and Agriculture Minister Dr. Afriyie Akoto, who are vying to represent the NPP in the 2024 general election, have tarnished their political images due to their subpar performance in their previous positions.

Known for his astute political analysis, Prof. Mensah expressed skepticism about the leadership capabilities of these two contenders and suggested that the party was, “for the first time, presenting very weak candidates.”

The situation of economic management under the NPP, with Dr. Bawumia leading the Economic Management Team, was one of Prof. Mensah’s main concerns.

“Economic management has been in shambles, and I’m surprised that they are trying to tout Dr. Bawumia’s credentials.”

The Political Strategist further criticised Dr. Bawumia for his deafening silence on economic matters since the country’s financial crisis began, noting, “I have never heard him [Dr. Bawumia] speak about the economy since the economy started plummeting.”

“Let us be frank, whenever they have spoken, they’ve attributed our economic woes to Ukraine and Covid-19 but everybody knows that they have mismanaged the economy,” he told host Evans Mensah on Wednesday.

Shifting his focus to Dr. Afriyie Akoto, Prof. Mensah raised concerns about the performance of the Food and Agriculture Ministry under his leadership. He specifically pointed to the “Planting for Food and Jobs” program, describing it as being in a state of disarray. Prof. Mensah criticized the strategies implemented during the minister’s tenure, characterizing them as reactive and insufficient in producing meaningful results.

However, during the show, Sammy Awuku, a former National Organiser of the ruling NPP, strongly disagreed with Prof. Mensah’s characterization of the party’s presidential aspirants. He argued that the NDC had even less promising presidential candidates during their primaries, and yet Prof. Mensah did not make similar statements about them.

In response, Mr. Awuku highlighted the qualifications held by the two NPP contenders and expressed his belief that they would perform effectively if given the opportunity.

The ruling party is gearing up to select its flagbearer this weekend, with delegates tasked with deciding whether Vice President Dr. Afriyie Akoto, Kennedy Agyapong, and Francis Addai-Nimoh will be included on the party’s ticket for the 2024 elections.

  • I’ll change my name to Martha if Bawumia doesn’t win NPP primaries – Techiman South MP

I’ll change my name to Martha if Bawumia doesn’t win NPP primaries – Techiman South MP

Techiman South Member of Parliament (MP), Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, has expressed strong confidence in Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s prospects for victory in the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primaries scheduled for Saturday, November 4.

He firmly believes that Dr. Bawumia will secure a decisive triumph, asserting that none of his competitors have a realistic chance.

The Deputy Minister for Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development even went to the extent of playfully wagering that he would change his name from Martin to Martha if Dr. Bawumia fails to emerge as the winner.

He stated in an interview on Onua TV on Tuesday, October 31, that “Bawumia’s win is a given, right away when Bawumia set his mind to contest the election, he had been a big winner but of course, democracy as it is, who would have left it for him on a silver platter? No… Right from day one when he decided to contest he has been the best bet for our fortunes going forward, he would win big.”

When asked if he would be surprised if Dr Bawumia doesn’t emerge victorious, he said “I will change my name from Martin to Martha.
If Bawumia doesn’t win, call me Martha.”

Adjei-Mensah Korsah emphasized that the Vice President represents the strongest contender to lead the ruling New Patriotic Party in the 2024 general elections and highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s widespread popularity within the party.

The NPP is gearing up to hold its primaries on Saturday, November 4, 2023.

With the competition for the party’s presidential nomination reaching its final stages, the outcome of the upcoming primaries will play a critical role in shaping the NPP’s prospects of clinching a third consecutive term in office.

NPP bans vuvuzelas, dancing at grounds for November 4 primaries

The Ashanti Regional Minister for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Simon Osei Mensah, has issued a stern warning to party members participating in the forthcoming elections.

During a media address, he emphasized that it is imperative for party members to arrive at the election grounds without wearing or displaying paraphernalia associated with any specific candidate.

He further indicated that individuals who violate this directive will face consequences for their actions, as strict measures will be taken against them.

“Party members should be aware that the use of vuvuzelas and ‘soloku’ is prohibited at the election grounds. No one should be observed wearing a candidate’s paraphernalia. Those who disregard this directive will face disciplinary action and will not be exempt from the consequences of their actions,” he added.

The party’s upcoming presidential primary is scheduled  for November 4, 2023.

This crucial event aims to determine the party’s flagbearer for the upcoming 2024 general elections.

The election will be conducted across all 16 regions of the country, representing a significant milestone in the party’s democratic process.

The presidential primary features a spirited competition among four candidates, each vying for the NPP’s coveted nomination.

These contenders are Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Member of Parliament for Assin, Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie, former MP for Mampong, Francis Addai-Nimoh, and Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, who hails from the Central Region.

EC announces plans to create 25 more constituencies

Majority Leader is set to present a Constitutional Instrument (CI) to Parliament, titled the “Representation of the People (Parliamentary Constituencies) (Amendment) Instrument, 2023.” This amendment is aimed at the establishment of an additional 25 constituencies, supplementing the existing 275 constituencies in the country.

The Electoral Commission (EC) had previously signalled its ongoing efforts to create new constituencies, including one in the Guan District. This process was scheduled to advance as Parliament reconvenes in October 2023.

Dr. Eric Bossman Asare, the Deputy Commissioner of the EC responsible for Corporate Services, provided these updates during an interview with TV3 on Monday, September 11, 2023.

“We are in the process of creating some new constituencies and Guan District is one of them. If not because parliament is in recess, we should have started the process in parliament,” Dr Bossman said.

Dr. Bossman disclosed that the Guan District is among the areas set to receive a new constituency as the Commission initiates the process of creating new constituencies for the 2024 elections.

The First Deputy Minority Chief Whip in Parliament, Ahmed Ibrahim, had accused the presidency of influencing the Electoral Commission (EC) to create 25 new constituencies ahead of the 2020 elections.

He alleged that the move to give the New Patriotic Party more seats as their stronghold will benefit the intended regions more, with the Ashanti Region obtaining 17 out of the 25 new constituencies to be created.

  • If they give you money, take it, but vote for one whose records speak for itself – Owusu-Bempah to delegates

If they give you money, take it, but vote for one whose records speak for itself – Owusu-Bempah to delegates

Founder and leader of the Glorious Word Power Ministry International Church, Reverend Isaac Owusu-Bempah, delivered a message to the delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He encouraged them to place national interests at the forefront when selecting a flagbearer.

During a broadcast to his congregation, Reverend Owusu-Bempah emphasised the importance of not allowing monetary influences to sway their decisions.

Instead, he urged NPP delegates to carefully assess the track records of the candidates before making their choice.

He went on to advise them to take money from candidates if any are offered, as clearly it is Ghana’s money they’d be sharing.

“We are supporting you in prayers but as you go to the polls, think about Ghana and not what you can get into your pocket. What you can get into your pocket cannot take care of you for four years.

“So, whoever gives you money to buy your vote should be seen as a nation-wrecker. Remember, they want to use your brain like that of a child. They didn’t mind you when it was not an election but now that they need your votes, they want to bring you money.

“I am pleading with you; if you like, take the money but vote against them; if they curse you, it won’t affect you. I know the money they will give you is Ghana’s money,” he urged.

While failing to mention a specific candidate, Reverend Owusu-Bempah hinted that one amongst the four candidates vying for the flagbearership stands out in terms of track record and should be the choice of delegates.

“There is someone we know who can help this country; his records show that he can help the country. I beg you; we want the one who has a record of doing it before and not the one who says and is not able to deliver. So, if you are a delegate or listening to my voice think about the future of your children and the future of Ghana before you cast your vote.

“The fall or rise of the nation is in your hands so be vigilant and not intimidated. Vote for the one you believe can develop the nation. Now we don’t look at political parties anymore. Whether NPP or NDC we are looking for the person who is capable,” he stated.

In an earlier statement, Reverend Isaac Owusu-Bempah clarified that he had not made any prophecies or declarations suggesting that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was divinely anointed to assist the NPP in breaking the eight-year cycle.

He emphasised that some individuals had been circulating false claims, asserting that he had prophesied in favour of the vice president as God’s chosen candidate for the ruling party’s flagbearer position.

On Saturday, November 4, 2023, the NPP is scheduled to convene a national delegate congress to select a flagbearer for the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

The candidates vying for this position include Vice President Dr. Bawumia, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Francis Addai-Nimoh, and Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto.

  • Just Guide’ money, GHC 100 from Ken, GHC 200 from Bawumia – NPP delegates confess to taking bribes

Just Guide’ money, GHC 100 from Ken, GHC 200 from Bawumia – NPP delegates confess to taking bribes

During a panel discussion on Okay FM’s Egyaso Gyaso program, which was streamed live on Facebook on October 30, 2023, a number of delegates from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) openly acknowledged that they have been receiving financial contributions from the campaign teams of the contenders in the party’s forthcoming flagbearership race, set to take place on Saturday, November 4, 2023.

The delegates specifically mentioned that they have received funds from Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Assin North Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong.

“I got some of the money they are sharing with the delegates. As for me, if you bring me money, I will collect it.

“When Ken came, I got GH¢100, and when Mr. Bawumia came, I got GH¢200,” one of the delegates said in Twi.

Interestingly, one of the delegates countered the prevailing trend by asserting that he had not accepted any financial contributions from the campaign teams of the contenders.

He emphasised that his support for Dr. Bawumia was not contingent on monetary incentives.

This declaration, however, surprised the other delegates present on the program, who responded with laughter and accused him of dishonesty.

“SK, didn’t you get some of the ‘Just Guide’ money? We were the ones who shared the money, and we gave you some,” one of the delegates said.
