Following this, the Bank of Ghana issued a directive for all financial institutions to procure protective sophisticated vans, failure to which the central bank would not admit any substandard vehicles by the close of June 2021.
On the matter, the Ghana Police Service announced its decision to withdraw their regular escorts if the financial institutions fail to comply with the directive.
But the June 2021 deadline was extended and all financial institutions were expected to ensure they provide bullion vans latest by July 1, 2023.

Suspects in a chieftaincy dispute which threw the Lugni community in the Northern region into a state of fear and panic have been arrested. This is according to reports from the Ghana Police Service.
According to the police, two people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Speaking on how they were arrested, the police said a patrol team in town saw the suspects who have been identified as Kofi Binyam and one Mensah, a plumber in the area, wielding guns. This prompted the police to arrest and detain them.
On Thursday, inhabitants of Lugni in the Nanumba South District of the Northern Region had to evacuate to ensure their well-being due to a conflict over chieftaincy, which led to numerous gunfire sounds.
The discord, according to reports, originated when the acting regent of Lugni offered kola nuts to a Konkomba leader, enabling him to be officially appointed as the chief of the Konkombas in Lugni. Nonetheless, another Konkomba clan expressed their objection to this selection.
The Binyam and Naamuhi clans are at odds with one another. While getting ready to install a new chief, the other clan got offended and is said to have started shooting. The Binyam clan is said to have assaulted the Naamuhi clan.
The Binyam clan objected to the Nanung chief of Lugni enskinning the Naamuhi clan as the Konkomba chief for Lugni, and this sparked the shooting incident on Thursday night. Calm, however, has been restored now.
This adds to the number of chieftaincy disputes recorded in the Northern Region. A recent similar incident occurred in May this year at Yong Dakpeme Yile in the Northern Region between two rival groups in the area. The clash was between supporters of Fuseini Chemsi and Mohammed Chemsi over the handing over of a staff of authority ceremony. Although measures including mediation have been employed to curb these conflicts, they still persist, especially in the Northern parts of the country.

‘We’d ask people not to speculate on social media as to the identity of the child or to the circumstances surrounding her death.
‘A highly visible presence of officers is likely to continue in the area for the next few days with reassurance patrols.
‘These officers are available to speak to concerned members of the community.
‘This is a fast-moving investigation and we are appealing to the local community for any information which may aid this investigation.’

Authorities in Warsaw have revealed that a professional ice hockey player from Poland’s top league has been charged with espionage on behalf of Russia.
The individual, who holds Russian citizenship, was apprehended on June 11 in Silesia, located in southern Poland. It is believed that he is associated with a Russian spy network.
Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) has detained a total of 14 individuals thus far, all of whom are suspected of being part of the same group. While the suspects come from countries situated to the east of Poland, not all of them are necessarily Russian citizens.
The long-standing espionage conflict between Russia and Western nations has escalated significantly since Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Poland, a staunch ally of Ukraine, has provided military support, financial assistance, and refuge to millions of Ukrainian refugees.
In a statement on Friday, Polish Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro said the arrested ice hockey player was competing in a club from the country’ s Ligue 1 – the second-highest division.
“A spy who acted under the guise of an athlete was caught,” the minister said. He did not name the detained player, but several Polish media outlets identified the suspect as Maksim S.
He is now being held in pre-trial detention. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison.
The charged ice hockey player has not made any public comment so far.
The Russian foreign ministry protested to Poland over the detention of the player. “We demand that the Russian side be immediately provided with comprehensive explanations,” ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova was quoted as saying by Russia’s state-run Interfax news agency.
On Friday, the Polish authorities said the suspected Russian spy ring had been used by Moscow to conduct intelligence activities, including the monitoring of railways, as well as spreading propaganda against Poland and the Nato military alliance.
The authorities also claimed the ring had prepared sabotage acts ordered by Russian intelligence.
The United Nations rights office has expressed concern over the fatal shooting of a teenager by police, which has sparked unrest throughout France.
However, the office also sees this situation as a potential opportunity for addressing underlying issues.
“This is a moment for the country to seriously address the deep issues of racism and racial discrimination in law enforcement,” spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani said.
“We also emphasize the importance of peaceful assembly. We call on the authorities to ensure use of force by police to address violent elements in demonstrations always respects the principles of legality, necessity, proportionality, non-discrimination, precaution and accountability.”
Reports say French police are preparing for more violent protests around the nation.
The AFP news agency reports that an internal security note says the “coming nights” are expected “to be the theatre of urban violence” – with “actions targeted at the forces of order and the symbols of the state”.
We already know that Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin has arranged for 40,000 police officers to be deployed across France tonight, in order to deal with any further unrest.
Ahead of the upcoming Assin North Constituency by-election in Ghana, the Ghana Police Service has increased its security presence in the area to ensure a peaceful and orderly electoral process.
A video circulating on social media shows uniformed police officers in a parade, demonstrating their readiness to maintain peace during the by-election.
With the by-election scheduled for June 27, 2023, the police authorities have taken proactive measures to prevent any potential disturbances or electoral malpractices.
The by-election is a result of a Supreme Court ruling on April 13, 2023, which ordered the removal of James Gyakye Quayson, the former Member of Parliament for Assin North Constituency, from parliament due to his dual citizenship status.
Despite the court ruling, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has chosen James Gyakye Quayson as their candidate for the by-election.
The highly anticipated by-election will witness a contest between Gyakye Quayson of the NDC, Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG).
Both the NPP and NDC have deployed prominent figures to campaign in the constituency. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and other NPP national executives have been actively supporting Charles Opoku, while former President John Dramani Mahama, Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, and other NDC leaders have campaigned for Gyakye Quayson.
Kofi Apkaloo, the founder and presidential hopeful of the LPG, has also been present in the constituency seeking votes for Bernice Enyonam Sefenu, the sole female candidate in the by-election.

The Executive Director of the African Centre for Security and Counter Terrorism, Emmanuel Kotin, has criticised government for its failure to prioritize the protection of lives by acquiring essential bullion vans for banking institutions.
This criticism comes in the wake of a tragic incident at the Ablekuma Fan Milk Star oil fuel station, where an armed robbery resulted in the loss of a police officer’s life.
According to the African Centre for Security and Counter Terrorism, the absence of approved bullion vans in the banking sector may have contributed to the vulnerability that led to the officer’s untimely death.
In an interview with the media, Mr Kotin, expressed concern over this gap in security measures and urged the Ghana Police Service to take immediate action.
Kotin emphasized the importance of holding banking institutions accountable for their choice of transportation when it comes to the movement of money.
He called on the Ghana Police Service to consider withdrawing their services from banks that continue to use unapproved bullion vans, highlighting the need to prioritize the safety and well-being of law enforcement officers involved in these operations.
“I don’t think anybody in his rightful thinking will have the idea of attacking them that is why I am calling on police personnel to desist sitting in such bullion vans. I know that the operators of such bullion vans are able to get around the rules and the Bank of Ghana because of political connections and political expediency.
“How long are we going to use political connections to bypass good policies and laws we create? what society are we creating? It is about time we do the right thing,” he stated.

Death has occurred among the 30 suspects being arrested by the police for his claimed involvement in the doomsday hunger cult in Kenya.
Joseph Juma Buyuka – along with some of the other suspects – had gone on hunger strike at the beginning of the month in protest at his detention.
He was then moved to a hospital in the south-eastern town of Malindi, where he died.
“We suspect that the deceased died from complications associated with a hunger strike. We can only await for a post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death,” a senior prosecutor informed a court in Mombasa, Kenya’s main coastal town.
None of the suspects, including cult leader Paul Nthenge Mackenzie, have yet been charged as police continue their investigations.
The self-proclaimed pastor and the other suspects are believed to have encouraged members of the Good News International Church to starve themselves to death.
Since April, 336 bodies have been exhumed from shallow graves in a remote forest. More than 600 other people are missing.
Two other detained suspects who have been on hunger strike have been admitted to hospital in critical condition.

A 24-year-old man who posed as an evangelist has been jailed for 18 months for stealing a motorbike and raping a Senior High School(SHS) girl in the Nkwanta South Municipality in the Oti Region.
Kidisil Sampson pleaded guilty to the charges of false pretence and stealing the property of Mr Mbatim Lala, a farmer at Kpassa in the Nkwanta North district.
He also admitted to having sex with an SHS girl under the pretext of casting out an evil spirit in her.
The court, presided over by Mr Joseph Evans Annan Okropa, convicted him accordingly.
The prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr Lawrence Wiafi, told the court that on June 5, Kidisil went to Mr Lala’s house at Kpassa to evangelise and convinced him that he needed deliverance from some spiritual problems.
He then asked for his motorbike to buy something from the town and never returned.
He brought the motorbike to Nkwanta town, where he met the SHS girl of Nkwanta Community Day SHTS and lured her to his lodging place for deliverance.
The girl invited two of her friends to accompany her and they waited outside while Kidisil took her inside.
ASP Wiafi said after some minutes, they heard some unusual noises from the room and the girl shouting at Kidisil to stop.
They forced the door open and saw Kidisil having sexual intercourse with their friend.
They reported the case to the Nkwanta Police and Mr Lala also lodged a complaint against Kidisil for stealing his motorbike.
The police arrested Kidisil on June 11 and after investigations, he was arraigned and sentenced.
A well-known figure in the Axim galamsey scene, Kwame Ato Asare Ani, has once again made headlines following an alleged assault on a member of his own family.
Ani, who gained notoriety after a video of him and other illegal miners assaulting a police officer went viral, was recently released on bail.
According to reports from UTV’s Western Regional Correspondent Charles Egyir, Ani allegedly visited his family to confront them about the damaging information they provided during his detention. Egyir stated that the family head, who also happens to be Ani’s uncle, testified against him during his initial arrest, accusing him of criminal activities and causing disturbances in the neighborhood. Furthermore, it is alleged that the family head accused Ani of involvement in multiple rape cases.
Egyir explained, “When the incident occurred, it was widely known that Kwame Ato Asare had become a wanted person, with the police actively searching for him. Reports suggested that he fled to Ivory Coast but later returned before his eventual arrest. During the two months he spent in police custody, he made several court appearances. His lawyer, Fiifi Buckman, successfully obtained bail for him, and this Thursday will mark exactly two weeks since his release on bail.”
Recalling the initial arrest, Egyir added, “During interviews conducted by some journalists in one of the neighboring towns, the family head (Abusuapanyin) testified that Kwame Ato Asare was a criminal who had been causing disturbances in the neighborhood. The man also accused him of committing numerous rapes and provided extensive information about Kwame Ato Asare.”
Upon hearing this news, Ani was reportedly displeased with the family head’s testimony. After his release on bail, Ani confronted the man and allegedly assaulted him, causing injuries.
Community members swiftly intervened, rushing the injured family head to the hospital and promptly reporting the incident to the Axim Divisional Command. Ani was subsequently re-arrested and is currently in custody at the Sekondi Headquarters, where the police are conducting further investigations.
“The community members took him to the hospital and reported the incident to the Axim Divisional Command, leading to the re-arrest of Kwame Ato Asare. Currently, he has been brought to the Sekondi Headquarters, and the police are still investigating the matter,” Egyir explained.
Ani did not act alone during the assault, as he was accompanied by a young man named Idrrisu, a well-known figure in Axim. Both individuals have been arrested for their involvement in the attack.
It should be noted that Kwame Ato Asare Ani, aged 21, was previously arrested alongside two other suspects, Williams Kwofie aged 17, and Emmanuel Kojo Bronie aged 17. The trio was apprehended at Boinso, a community near Enchi in the Western North Region.
Ani had been declared wanted after a video capturing him and other illegal miners harassing a police officer at a galamsey site, resulting in the officer kneeling down to apologize, went viral. Following the incident, Ani went into hiding, prompting the police to issue a wanted notice.
A member of the Boinso community recognized the suspects at a local drinking spot on Friday morning, April 21, 2023, and promptly informed the police, who apprehended them at the location.

Napari, is currently evading authorities as he is wanted by the police following a formal complaint filed by the referees’ wing of the Northern Regional Football Association, as confirmed by findings from Joy Sports investigations. In the aftermath, the police arrested 100 individuals involved in the attack, with 20 of them currently on bail and undergoing trial at a district court in Tamale after the screening process. The recent police raid on June 16 has reportedly heightened tensions in the area, leading to condemnation from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Savannah Region.
During the press conference, the paramount chief of the Wasipe Traditional Area, Wasipewura Mimuni Anyami Kabasagya II, expressed his willingness to assist the police in apprehending suspects listed as wanted, if their information is made available to him.
Jantonwura Peter Awusi Yakubu, acting as the spokesperson, emphasized that the chief’s offer aimed to bring an end to the raids, which have generated fear, panic, and heightened tensions in the town, resulting in the departure of young men from the community.
Two out of the four suspects who were arrested in connection with a viral video depicting the stripping and alleged gang rape of a woman in Kupelga, Bawku West District, have been sentenced to 15 years each.
The remaining two suspects are currently in police custody awaiting trial for a period of one week.
The incident, which gained widespread attention after a two-minute video circulated on social media, showcased a woman being subjected to dehumanizing treatment by a mob, with her being almost naked, wearing only a bra.
The incident is believed to have occurred in Kupelga, a suburb of Zebilla, as a retaliation for an alleged rape of a resident by a Fulani herdsman.
Yakubu Musah Bari, the General Secretary of Tabital Pulaaku International, Ghana Chapter, and spokesperson for the Fulani community, confirmed the sentencing of the suspects during an interview with Starr News.
“Four have been arrested and were sent to court yesterday. Two have been sentenced to 15 years each, two have been put in remand for a week.”
Yakubu Musah Bari added that the Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu will today, Friday, June 16 meet with the Regional Security Council and community leaders on ways to remedy the situation, after which he will pay a visit to the victims.

Three days later, the orthopaedic surgeon’s superiors at the Maria Hilf hospital in Daun, Rhineland-Palatinate State, reported him missing.
The burnt-out Ford Fiesta that belonged to Mr. Braun was discovered by police on a road approximately 28 miles from his house in Gerolstein, but the surgeon was nowhere to be located.
A dog walker has now discovered his remains in a wooded area less than four miles from his home.

A spokesperson forTrier Police said, in a statement obtained by the agency Newsflash,: ‘Late Tuesday afternoon, 13th June, a walker in a wooded area near Rockeskyll found part of a human body and informed the police.
‘The immediate search of the adjacent forest led the officers to the site where the entire body was found, which was in the vicinity of the search area designated by the police.’
Public prosecutor Eric Samel said Mr Braun’s death ‘was a deliberate and brutal homicide.’
Detectives suspect that the murder weapon ma have been thrown away along the A1 motorway between Wittlich and Gerolstein.
Detectives believe that Mr Braun’s killer was well known to him but have not yet idenified a suspect, local media reports.
The police statement continued: ‘According to the investigations so far, the crime may have occurred on Friday, 30th December, or Saturday, 31st December, 2022.’
Prosecutors have offered a £4,300 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of Braun’s killer.
Authorities in Tanzania have detained two church leaders on suspicion of holding a number of sick individuals and promising to treat them through prayer and local plants.
The more than 100 people were being kept in so-called traditional wards (mud-walled huts with brick beds) built around the church in Nyamhinza village, Misungwi district, in the north-western region of Mwanza – with no medical treatment or food being provided.
Some had been there for up to a month and they were required to find food for themselves until they fully recovered.
They were found after locals alerted the police that some people were dying after leaving hospitals, including a woman who had joined the church soon after giving birth to twins.
At the end of last week, the police took the sick people back to hospitals for treatment. They are now investigating possible deaths and whether there are bodies buried nearby.
Mwanza regional police commander, Wilbroad Mutafungwa, told journalists on Wednesday that initial investigations didn’t show there were people buried there but they were still keeping a close watch.
He confirmed the arrests of the suspects, church leaders William Masum and his wife Kabula Lushika, saying they didn’t have permits to conduct worship and prayer activities, or to provide traditional healing services. They have not commented on the accusations.
“We are now doing a detailed investigation, including interrogating the suspects. Meanwhile I ask locals with classified information that will help the investigation to come forward and talk to the police,” he said.
The church is said to have been in operation for more than five years.
Two church leaders in Tanzania have been arrested by authorities for allegedly unlawfully detaining over 100 sick individuals, whom they promised to heal through prayer and traditional remedies.
The individuals were held in traditional wards, mud-walled huts with brick beds, located around the church in Nyamhinza village, Misungwi district, in the northwestern region of Mwanza.
During their detention, the individuals received no medical treatment or food and were required to find sustenance for themselves until they recovered.
Some had been confined for as long as a month. Local residents raised concerns and informed the police after several individuals who had left hospitals, including a woman who recently gave birth to twins and joined the church, died.
In response, the police intervened, returning the sick individuals to hospitals for proper medical care.
The authorities are now investigating potential deaths and the possibility of hidden bodies nearby. Mwanza regional police commander, Wilbroad Mutafungwa, stated that initial investigations did not uncover any evidence of buried bodies but maintained vigilance on the matter.
The arrested suspects, church leaders William Masum and Kabula Lushika (his wife), were found to be operating without the necessary permits for conducting worship, prayer activities, and traditional healing services.
As of now, the accused individuals have not provided any statements regarding the allegations.
“We are now doing a detailed investigation, including interrogating the suspects. Meanwhile I ask locals with classified information that will help the investigation to come forward and talk to the police,” he said.
The church is said to have been in operation for more than five years.
The overcrowded boat that overturned early on Monday on the Niger River in the Pategi region of Kwara state, is still being searched for by locals and police, according to police spokesperson Okasanmi Ajayi.
He said 100 people had been rescued so far.
Most of those who drowned were relatives from several villages who attended the wedding together and partied late into the night, according to Abdul Gana Lukpada, a local chief. They arrived at the ceremony on motorcycles but had to leave on the locally made boat after a downpour flooded the road, he said.
“The boat was overloaded and close to 300 persons were in it. While they were coming, the boat hit a big log inside the water and split into two,” said Lukpada.
The wedding was held in the village of Egboti in the neighboring Niger state, said Usman Ibrahim, a resident. Because the accident happened at 3 a.m., it was hours before many people knew what had happened, he said.
As the passengers drowned, villagers nearby rushed to the scene and managed to rescue about 50 at first, Lukpada said, describing early efforts to rescue the passengers as slow and “very difficult.”
As of Tuesday afternoon, officials and locals were still searching for more bodies in the river, which is one of Nigeria’s largest. Police spokesman Ajayi said the rescue operation would continue through the night until Wednesday.
Locals said it was the deadliest boat accident they have seen in many years.
By Tuesday evening, all the bodies recovered so far had been buried, most near the river, in accordance with local customs, Lukpada said.
Kwara Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s office issued a statement expressing sadness for the families of those killed and saying that he “continues to monitor the rescue efforts already mounted since Monday night in search of possible survivors.”
Boat accidents are common in many remote communities across Nigeria, where locally made vessels are commonly used for transport. Most accidents are attributed to overloading and the use of poorly maintained boats.

According to Durham Constabulary, if the parents read this appeal, they should take their kids to the nearest hospital so that they can be examined by doctors.
The appeal read: ‘Can you help us find couple Jurian and Brisilda Baxhia, who are believed to be somewhere in the north of England with their one-year-old baby?

The local prosecutor claims that an 11-year-old British girl was killed by gunfire on Saturday in Saint-Herbot, a hamlet in western France’s Brittany.
The shooting left the girl’s parents with significant injuries. She managed to get away, and her 8-year-old sister was discovered “unharmed but in a state of shock,” according to a statement made by Quimper prosecutor Carine Halley on Sunday.
Authorities claim that the family was in their garden when their 71-year-old Dutch neighbour came over carrying a gun and began firing several times in their general direction before locking himself and his wife inside their home.
Police intervened at 10 p.m. local time. The 11-year-old was found dead and her father sustained a life-threatening head injury, while her mother was also injured but is not in critical condition, Halley said.
An hour later the Dutch man and his wife surrendered and were taken into custody.
“We thought they were playing with firecrackers,” Yannick, a neighbor who heard the gunfire, told CNN affiliate BFMTV.
“The youngest girl came running to the neighbors shouting: ‘My sister is dead, my sister is dead,’” Yannick said.
Halley said Sunday “the motives for the tragedy are not yet known.” But, according to the initial investigation, “it appears there had been a dispute between the two neighbors for several years over a piece of land adjoining the two properties.”
The Quimper prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation on charges of voluntary manslaughter of a minor and attempted murder.
Marguerite Bleuzen, the mayor of Plonévez-du-Faou, a town bordering Saint-Herbot, told BFMTV Sunday she had been made aware of a dispute between neighbors several years ago.
“I intervened with my deputies when we were elected. There was a problem with the land, noise complaints,” Bleuzen said.
Police in the Canadian city of Mississauga have seized eight stolen vehicles that were about to be shipped to Ghana.
According to a report by Insauga.com, detectives from the Regional Municipality of Peel executed a search warrant on Friday, June 9, 2023, leading to the recovery of the eight vehicles at a business location near Drew Road and Torbram Road in Mississauga.
The vehicles, estimated to be worth approximately $650,000 in total, were in the process of being shipped to Ghana.
The eight cars consist of a 2020 Mercedes GLEC, a 2021 Mercedes GBG TY, a 2021 Honda CRV, a 2020 Honda CRV, a 2021 Honda CRV, a 2020 Honda CRV, a 2020 Honda CRV, and a 2021 Honda CRV.

Ghana Is fast becoming a destination for stolen cars especially from Europe and America.
An investigation by Mariana van Zeller for the National Geographic Channel, published in April this year, exposed a sophisticated car smuggling syndicate traced to Ghana.
The investigation started in the United States of America, where the investigative journalist followed the activities of a gang involved in stealing of luxury cars.
Some of the gang members who spoke to Van Zeller explained how they carry out their activities and the structure of the international crime syndicate that sees stolen cars from the streets of America end up in third world countries like Ghana.
Van Zeller traveled to Ghana to meet some of the local players.
She met a hacker/black market trader and another person who handles the business aspect of the enterprise.
The two provided the journalist with insights into the local trade of stolen cars and how they are able to get the cars into the Ghanaian system without raising any red flags.
With import duties costing as much as 20% of the value of a car in Ghana, the hacker told Van Zeller that he can hack into the system of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority to help the syndicate evade paying the required import duties.
“It is my duty to attack the Tema Harbour… We make it seem as if you’ve paid everything,” the hacker stated.
As the final destination, the Ghanaian syndicate is considered to be at the top of the international car smuggling syndicate.
Identifying himself as Ivan, a man who leads the importation and sale of stolen cars in Ghana, opened up about the gang’s operations to the journalist.
“It is possible that most of these cars are stolen. Most of the boys come here to hang out. There are top guys that are in the business now; the stolen cars business. This is how some family generations have made money,” Ivan told the journalist as they drove through areas in Accra where the nightlife is buzzing.
Overall, the investigation revealed that the Ghanaian players are at the pinnacle of the international car theft ring. They make the most money from a criminal enterprise that sees cars belonging to people in America stolen and shipped over six thousand miles away from their owners.

The Police have revealed that five land guards were shot dead during an anti-robbery and land guard operation at Bortianor in Accra on June 8, 2023.
It was earlier reported that 9 land guards were shot dead but the death toll has been clarified.
In a statement signed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Director of Public Affairs, Grace Ansah-Akrofi noted that “These individuals had been terrorizing residents and landowners in Bortianor and nearby communities.”
It stated that suspects upon noticing the police team “opened fire from their hideout, prompting the Police to return fire.”
While the five shot were pronounced dead at the hospital, the remaining suspects fled the scene and are still on the run, the police noted.
According to the Police, a total of five weapons were recovered from the scene.
They include: one AK47 Assault rifle, 10 rounds of AK47 ammunition, one pump action gun with nine rounds of BB cartridges, two pistols with 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition, one unregistered Toyota Tacoma pickup, four motorbikes, three of which are unregistered, a knife and a pepper spray.
The police are actively pursuing the remaining suspects, some of whom are believed to have sustained gunshot injuries during the operation.
They have therefore urged the public, especially residents of the Bortianor community, to promptly report any individuals with gunshot wounds who may be seeking medical treatment.
“Your cooperation will assist the Police in taking immediate action,” the police appealed.
During a protest against the police, sparked by tensions between residents of Sherigu community in the Bolgatanga Municipality and the Fulani community, approximately 15 individuals were injured by rubber bullets.
The victims were alleged to have been shot by the police when some youth went to the Bolgatanga District Police Station to protest the arrest of six of their colleagues for allegedly leading an attack on Fulani settlement near the community.
They were also alleged to have planned to attack the Fulanis a second time, and the Sherigu Chief as well.
According to Mr Francis Amoah, the Assemblyman for Sherigu-Punpungo Electoral Area, the victims were receiving treatment at healthcare facilities in the Municipality.
Some residents of Sherigu accused the Fulanis in the community, to have, on numerous occasions, attacked, killed, and raped women in the area particularly along the Sherigu-Naaga road.
Mr Amoah told the Ghana News Agency, that it all started about two weeks ago when some residents asked the Fulanis to vacate the community, accusing them of the rampant armed robbery incidents in the area which had led to the death of one person.
The youth also accused the Fulanis of always allowing their cattle to destroy their crops and wanted them out of the community.
The police initially arrested six people who were said to be the ring leaders and that angered the youth to protest, which led to 15 persons being injured by the rubber bullets.
The police later in a swoop arrested 61 persons in connection with the disturbances.
Mr Rex Asanga, the Municipal Chief Executive for Bolgatanga, said he visited the victims who were in stable condition and explained that the youth had besieged the police station and attacked the police officers by pelting stones, causing damage to some properties.
He said the police, in their effort to disperse the rampaging youth used rubber bullets which caused some injuries to the victims.
He said the youth asked the Fulanis in the community to leave the area, and the action displaced about 170 Fulanis who were currently hosted at the Bolgatanga Sports Stadium.
He said the Municipal Security Council was working seriously to find a lasting solution to the problem and urged all stakeholders to remain calm.
“We were working on resolving the issue until it escalated, so we are not sleeping on it. We are trying to get the community to agree to have the Fulanis back to the community because a lot of their cattle are still there without anybody attending to them,” he said.
The 61 persons were taken to court and eight juveniles (minors) were granted bail while the rest were remanded into prison custody.
They are scheduled to reappear in court on June 19, 2023.
The anti-land guard unit of the Ghana Police Service has allegedly shot and killed nine individuals suspected to be landguards near Tubain the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
One suspect who was also shot during the operation is receiving treatment at a hospital, while two others are in police custody.
According to Citi News sources, the suspects had been harassing workers of an estate development company at Akwasa Hillsfor some time.
The suspects would often terrorize the workers and, in some cases, injure them.
On Thursday, June 8, 2023, the suspects allegedly attacked the workers again, firing shots in the area. The police anti-landguard unit, which had allegedly laid an ambush, initially attempted to arrest the suspects, but the suspects opened fire, resulting in an exchange of gunfire.
A community source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the development as welcome news, as the landguards had been terrorizing the community for years.
“The incident happened at a land at Bortianor Hills belonging to a developer. The developer had been working on the land for over a month, and the landguards had been coming to harass the workers on a regular basis. The developer reported the harassment to the police, and the police came to the scene to investigate. While the police were laying an ambush, the landguards attacked the workers, and the police opened fire, killing nine of the landguards. Three of the landguards were injured and taken to the hospital.
“The activities of landguards are quite disturbing. They often demand money from developers, and some developers have paid as much as GH¢50,000 or even GH¢100,000 to the landguards,” the source said.
Meanwhile, Serwaa Agyapong, a resident whose brother was shot, has denied allegations that all of the people involved were landguards.
She said her brother, who lived close to her home, was a steel bender by trade and had never worked as a landguard.
She was upset with the way the police team quickly removed the bodies of the dead men and covered up the blood stains with sand and leaves.
Madam Serwaa also accused the police of washing away the blood stains with water, and she is calling for a full investigation into the incident.
“My brother is not an armed robber, as is being perceived. He is a steel bender. After killing him, the police took his personal belongings, including a television set,” Serwaa Agyapong, the sister of one of the deceased, said.
Andrew Tate is accused of raping a British woman, strangling her till she passed out, and acting aggressively towards her.
When she first met Mr. Tate in August 2014, when he was employed as a club doorman in Luton, Evie (not her real name) claimed that she was a 20-year-old student.
She claimed she gave Mr. Tate her agreement to have sex, but when they reconnected in late November or early December of the same year, she believes he became violent towards her.
According to Evie, the contentious influencer “put his hand on her throat and strangled her” until she passed out.
When she came around, ‘it was a bit confusing at first’ but Mr Tate, 36, was ‘still having sex with her’, she alleges.
Evie, now 30, said the former-kickboxer was ‘fairly aggressive and saying horrible things’ throughout the night, including: ‘I own you, you belong to me’.
The next day, the white part in one of her eyes was red from being strangled, she claims.
A spokesperson for Mr Tate said he ‘vehemently denies’ the accusations against him and added that ‘all sexual acts that Andrew has partaken in have been consensual’.
Evie did not report her case topoliceat the time, saying ‘she didn’t see it as rape or sexual assault because this was 10 years ago’.
It was only six years afterwards, when she was describing the alleged attack to her friends, that she started to believe had been assaulted.
Three people have told Evie’s lawyers they remember being told the story and are willing to give evidence in court about it.
Evie is the fourth British woman to come forward with allegations against Mr Tate, joining three others who are planning to sue him over claims he subjected them to sexual assault, physical abuse and controlling behaviour.
These three accusers are understood to have contacted the police over their alleged abuse eight years ago, but say detectives dropped the charges after failing to properly investigate their case.
The women say they worked as webcam models for Tate in Luton between 2013 and 2016, and were abused, poorly paid and threatened to try to stop them going to the police during that time.
Mr Tate previously denied the allegations, and said: ‘They wanted money because I fired them. The police understood after the investigation that I am innocent.’
All four women are being represented by McCue Jury & Partners, which is crowdfunding to pay for proceedings. So far, they have raised more than £15,000.
Both Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan are currently being investigated in Romania over suspected human trafficking, rape and sexual exploitation of women, as well as supposed links to organised crime.
The Tate brothers, who are currently under house arrest in Romania, deny all claims against them. Neither they, nor two other suspects, have been charged with anything.
Mr Tate’s spokesperson said: ‘Andrew strongly encourages women who have experienced assault, in any form, to report it to the relevant authorities.
‘We will not be commenting any further on anyone’s alleged intention to pursue legal action unless such action is submitted to the authorities.’

Virginia Commonwealth University Police issued an alert of a shooting at or near Monroe Park shortly after 5pm. The theater is located at the university campus at a section of the park.
School board members were on lockdown in the Altria building and said they heard more than a dozen bangs and that people were taken out in stretchers, CBS 6 reported.
Photos and footage from the scene showed numerous police vehicles outside the theater.
Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney called the shooting both tragic and traumatic.
‘Children were involved here… this is their graduation day,’ said Stoney.
‘The question that comes to my mind right now is, is nothing sacred any longer? Is nothing sacred any longer?’
Kenyan protestors demonstrating in the nation’s capital against a number of the government’s proposed fuel tax increases have been dispersed by an open fire with tear gas.
One of the key contested measures in the unpopular finance bill is a new 3% housing fund levy for all salaried workers and to increase value added tax on fuel to 16%.
The bill also calls for taxes on beauty products, crypto-currencies and earnings by social media influencers. They are among the measures that have been opposed by many Kenyans.
The dozens of protesters had sought to gather at a park in the centre of Nairobi before marching to parliament to urge MPs to reject the tax proposals.
Local media reported that some of the protesters were arrested.
Legislators are set to debate the bill on Thursday, amid warnings issued by President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua against those opposed to the proposals.
