Prof Takyiwaa Manuh denies allegations of being paid to oppose Anti-Gay Bill

A heated exchange has erupted between notable figures regarding the motivations behind opposition to the controversial legislation following the passage of Ghana’s Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill.

A former Director of the Institute of African Studies at the University of Ghana, Legon, Emerita Professor Takyiwaa Manuh, has found herself at the center of this discourse following allegations made by Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George.

Sam George claimed that Prof Manuh, along with other prominent individuals, has been financially compensated by LGBTQ+ groups to advocate against the anti-gay bill.

In response to these accusations, Prof Manuh firmly denied the allegations and accused the MP of resorting to insults due to the perceived inadequacy of the bill. She argued that the legislation is redundant given existing laws prohibiting “unnatural canal activities” and the abuse of children. Moreover, she expressed concerns that the bill could perpetuate discrimination and unwarranted attacks against the LGBT+ community.

Quoting the philosopher Socrates, Manuh asserted, “When the debate is lost, insult becomes the loser’s tool,” suggesting that George’s resort to personal attacks indicates a lack of substantive argument in favor of the bill.

Challenging George to provide evidence for his claims, Manuh emphasized her intention to uphold her reputation through legal recourse if necessary. She asserted her belief in the protection of the law, stating that the burden of proof lies with those making the allegations.

Meanwhile, in his interview on Adom FM, MP Samuel Nartey George reiterated his allegations against Manuh and other individuals, accusing them of being funded by pro-LGBTQ+ groups. He questioned the inconsistency in their opposition to the bill despite the existence of similar provisions in current laws.

The Promotion of Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, now awaiting presidential assent, seeks to criminalize and penalize LGBT activities and their advocacy in Ghana. If signed into law, individuals engaging in such activities could face jail terms, while promoters and sponsors could also be subject to legal consequences.

As the bill awaits presidential action, the nation remains divided, with proponents citing the preservation of traditional family values, while opponents raise concerns about human rights and the potential for discrimination.

The outcome of this contentious legislative debate now hinges on the decision of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, whose approval or rejection of the bill will determine its fate.

Sam George reveals ‘secret’ behind 1.2trillion Yen Japan gave to Mahama

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George, disclosed a hidden facet behind the funding of the Tema Interchange, attributing its realization to the efforts of former President John Dramani Mahama.

George asserted that Mahama’s rapport with the Japanese community played a pivotal role in securing a substantial 1.2 trillion yen from Japan for the project.

During an interview on Onua FM, MP Sam Nartey George highlighted Mahama’s unique connection with Japan, stemming from his previous collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) before entering politics.

George underlined the significance of Mahama’s personal ties with Japan, emphasizing that it was instrumental in breaking an 11-year funding hiatus from the Japanese government to Ghana.

“Tema Interchange, JICA, the Japanese government gave us the money. The Japanese government had stopped providing funds to Ghana for 11 years. It took John Mahama to go and unlock it and get 1.2 trillion yen for that project,”George stated, shedding light on Mahama’s role in revitalizing the financial support from Japan.

Explaining the background, George shared, “John Mahama had worked with JICA before at the Japanese Embassy before he became a politician. And so he is a very well-known person in Japan.”

He detailed the enduring relationship between Mahama and Shinzo Abe, the Prime Minister at the time, who had previously headed JICA when Mahama served as the country manager.

“At that time, Shinzo Abe, who was Prime Minister had been head of JICA at the time Mahama WA country manager here. They had a long-term work relationship for over 20 years. So John went back to Japan and said Prime Minister, you know what, Japan and Ghana, you have helped us a lot. Under Rawlings, Japan did a lot of funding,” George recounted.

Sam Nartey George revealed this information while expressing discontent over the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) alleged failure to acknowledge the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) contributions to initiated projects.

In 2013, the Government of Ghana under the John Dramani Mahama administration requested a grant from the Government of Japan to implement the project (The Tema Motorway Interchange).

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) then selected and dispatched a survey team, which was headed by Mr. Ryohei Watanabe of CTI Engineering International Co., LTD. from March 2015 to March 2017.

The initial survey and detailed designs were undertaken between March 2015 and December 2016 and the final report was submitted to the Ministry of Roads and Highways for review and approval. This was also noted in the 2016 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of Ghana.

Although then president John Dramani Mahama had mentioned in his 2016 State of the Nation address that “preparatory works for the redevelopment of the Accra-Tema motorway into a six-lane road with four interchanges at Adjei Kojo, Abattoir, Teshie Link, and  Tema Roundabout will commence soon,” the project did not start until February 2018.

In 2017, the Government of Ghana signed grant agreements with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to provide aid of up to a total of 6,459 million yen for two programmes in Ghana, of which the Tema Motorway roundabout was included. The two specific projects were:

    1. The Programme for Improvement of Ghanaian International Corridors (6,259 million yen)
    2.  The Programme for Poverty Reduction Strategy (Health Sector) (200 million yen)

The details of the first part of the program state that “the project will build an underpass at the Tema Motorway Roundabout in the core city of the Accra economic zone, and will also conduct detailed design improvements for rehabilitation of National Trunk Road N8 in the Central Region. These measures will ensure safe, efficient road transportation and contribute to the efficient flow of goods between international corridors (the Lagos-Abidjan Highway and the Eastern Corridor of Ghana).”

In December 2017, the Government of Ghana, the Ministry of Roads and Highways, and Shimizu-Dai Nippon JV signed a contract for the execution of the project. In February 2018, the vice president of Ghana, H.E Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia cut sod for the commencement of the project.

I know people who voted for Akufo-Addo because of Dr. Bawumia in 2016 – Sam George

Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam George, has alleged that President Akufo-Addo strategically appointed Vice President Dr. Bawumia to cater to the business community’s interests in Ghana.

George asserts that Bawumia, once hailed as the ‘economic wizkid,’ fell short of expectations in handling economic challenges, leading to a change in narrative towards digitization.

George emphasised that Bawumia’s initial role was presented as crucial in addressing economic issues, particularly the depreciation of the cedi.

The MP highlighted the high expectations set by Akufo-Addo and the perceived expertise of Bawumia in the international business world, which garnered support from the middle class and floating voters during elections.

Expressing disappointment in Bawumia’s performance, George questioned the reasons behind the Vice President’s shift from leading economic matters to spearheading the digitization agenda.

He remarked, “We were once told that Bawumia is the head of the economic committee, now we are being told he is head of digitization because of his failure in handling the economy.”

I will never say anywhere that borrowing is a bad thing – Sam George

Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George has acknowledged that borrowing as a government is not a crime.

Speaking in an interview on Onua FM, Mr George noted that it is okay for governments to borrow to fund projects during their tenure.

What he said was the problem was the fact that some governments borrow and misuse the borrowed fund.

“As someone who has served as a government official, I will never sit anywhere and say that borrowing is not good. But you would have to apply some sense in doing that,” he said.

During the interview, he criticised what he described as an extravagant lifestyle being led by President Akufo-Addo despite the country’s economic hardships.

Registering his displeasure, he expressed concern over the President’s use of luxurious flights when there are moderate options.

I don’t care what happens in your bedroom; I’ll protect the sanctity of children – Sam George tells LGBTQ Community

Ningo Prampram Member of Parliament and a key sponsor of the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, Sam George, has sought to clarify misconceptions and misinformation surrounding the controversial legislation.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, Mr. George expressed frustration over what he described as misinformation and miseducation about the bill. He particularly addressed the claim that LGBTQ+ individuals would face discrimination in job applications.

“Does anyone ask you who you slept within your bedroom when applying for a job? What happens in the confines of your bedroom remains the business of you and your partner,” he stated.

The legislator responded to an earlier statement by Dr. Amanda Odoi, another panelist on the show, who had suggested that the passage of the Anti-LGBTQ Bill would not only infringe on the rights of LGBTQ+ people and make them feel unsafe in their own country but also result in discrimination in job applications.

In his argument, the MP stated that when individuals publicly define themselves by their sexual preference, it becomes a matter of public policy. He defended the bill’s focus on regulating such matters, asserting that public policy would naturally apply.

Mr. George also addressed the issue of funding, suggesting that some proponents of LGBTQ+ rights may be more interested in financial support than the welfare of Ghanaian children.

“If this is all about funding for you, I am more interested in the sanctity of Ghanaian children,” he said.

Mr. George highlighted the international context, pointing out the difference in LGBTQ+ rights enforcement in various countries. He noted that individuals respect and adhere to the laws of countries like Qatar and Saudi Arabia when traveling there.

Comparing Nigeria’s 15-year jail term for engaging in LGBTQ+ activities to Ghana’s 3-year jail term, Mr. George questioned the moral authority of opponents of the LGBTQ+ Bill who would travel to Nigeria and still conform to their rules.

“… but think that Ghana should become a juggle because we think we are so liberal,” he stated.

On Wednesday, February 28, Parliament unanimously passed the Anti-LGBTQ+ bill after completing the third reading.

The bill has been a subject of intense debate and discussion since its introduction to the legislature three years ago. Proponents argue that it is necessary to uphold cultural and religious values, while opponents argue that certain provisions of the bill violate human rights and promote discrimination.

Following its passage, many opponents have expressed their displeasure, with some civil society groups threatening legal action should President Akufo-Addo assent to the bill for it to become law.

Passage of anti-gay bill was supported by majority of NPP MPs – Sam George

Advocate for the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, Samuel Nartey George, has expressed substantial support among Members of Parliament for the anti-LGBTQI legislation.

The Ningo-Prampram MP thanked Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu for his pivotal role in the bill’s passage, emphasizing overwhelming bipartisan backing within the house.

Addressing reporters in Accra after the bill’s approval, Sam George urged the President to grant assent, highlighting the widespread legislative support.

Amendments were made, including Sam George’s proposal to subject clauses 10 and 11 to media freedom provisions in the constitution, which the House approved.

However, a motion by Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin to subject clause 12, dealing with LGBT activities’ funding, to the constitution was negated. Despite the Board Chair of CDD-Ghana, Professor Audrey Gadzekpo, calling on President Akufo-Addo to reject the bill, Parliament passed it.

Professor Gadzekpo argued that the legislation undermines fundamental human rights, warning of potential threats to Ghana’s democratic principles.

The bill now awaits presidential assent, with uncertainty about President Nana Akufo-Addo’s stance.

The United Nations warned in 2021 that the proposed law could lead to state-sponsored discrimination and violence against sexual minorities. Uganda’s similar law in 2023, including the death penalty, faced global criticism and funding suspension by the World Bank.

  • My lawyers will write to you – Stephen Amoah tells Sam George after he slapped his bald head

My lawyers will write to you – Stephen Amoah tells Sam George after he slapped his bald head

During a segment on TV3’s New Day show, Ningo-Prampram MP, Sam George, and Stephen Amoah, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry and MP for Nhyiaeso, engaged in a lively debate over Vice President Bawumia’s recent ‘driver’s mate’ comment.

Vice President Bawumia, in a speech at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, likened his role as Vice President to that of a driver’s mate, highlighting a transformative vision if he were to become president.

Sam George took issue with this comparison, referring to Dr. Bawumia as “Aplanke,” a Ga term for a bus conductor, during the show.

Stephen Amoah objected, stating that the term was inappropriate.

Sam George defended his use of the term, stating that “Aplanke” is not an abusive word. When asked if his comment about knocking Mr. Amoah was serious, Sam George likened it to tapping a child’s head when they misbehave, and playfully tapped Mr. Amoah’s head.

In response, Mr. Amoah humorously said, “unallowed touching,” and remarked that he would consult his lawyers regarding the incident.

  • I am wonderfully made, you were fearfully made – Sam George ‘mocks’ bald Stephen Amoah

I am wonderfully made, you were fearfully made – Sam George ‘mocks’ bald Stephen Amoah

Ningo-Prampram MP, Sam George, has noted that not all of God’s creations were wonderfully made, others were fearfully made.

A lively exchange took place on TV3’s New Day show between Sam George and Stephen Amoah, the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry and MP for Nhyiaeso, over Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s ‘driver’s mate’ analogy.

Vice President Bawumia, during his address at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, likened his current role as Vice-President to that of a driver’s mate, highlighting a transformative vision if he assumes the presidency.

Sam George took issue with this comparison, referring to Dr. Bawumia as “Aplanke,” a Ga term for a bus conductor, during the New Day show.

Stephen Amoah objected to the use of the term, deeming it inappropriate. Sam George defended his use of “Aplanke,” stating that it was not abusive.

When asked if his remarks about knocking Mr. Amoah were in jest, Sam George likened it to disciplining a misbehaving child, lightly tapping the back of Mr. Amoah’s head.

In response, Stephen Amoah jokingly remarked about the touching, stating that it was unauthorized and emphasizing the sanctity of the head, adding that he would consult his lawyers regarding the incident.

Sam George replied, saying he was wonderfully made by God, while Stephen Amoah was fearfully made.

“Some are wonderfully made, some are fearfully made. You are fearfully made, I am wonderfully made,” he said.

  • Sam George ‘slaps’ Stephen Amoah’s bald head on live TV

Sam George ‘slaps’ Stephen Amoah’s bald head on live TV

It was a hilarious moment on TV3’s New Day show when Ningo-Prampram MP, Sam George and Stephen Amoah, the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry and a Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso got into a heated debate over Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s ‘driver’s mate’ comment.

Vice President Bawumia during his address at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, drew parallels between his current role as Vice-President and that of a driver’s mate, emphasising a transformative vision if he assumes the presidency.

“As Vice-President I am like a driver’s mate. But if, by the Grace of God, you make me President, I will be in the driversseat with constitutionally mandated authority to pursue my vision and my priorities. So, what do I want to do in terms of vision, priorities and policies if you give me the opportunity, by the Grace of God, to become President of the Republic of Ghana?”

This analogy was not welcomed by Sam George who described Dr Bawumia as “Aplanke”, a Ga term used to describe a bus conductor, during today’s edition of New Day show.

Stephen Amoah did not have it and said it was an inappropriate word to use.

“Aplanke is not an abusive word,” Sam George said.

Roland Walker then asked Sam George whether his declaration to knock Mr Amoah was just in jest. Mr George replied saying “when your child is misbehaving, don’t you tap his head.”

As he made the comments, his right hand went to the back of Mr Amoah’s head. He tapped his head severally, but not with intense force to cause any significant discomfort.

Playfully, Mr Stephen Amoah said “unallowed touching.” He added, “the head was made by God.” He also noted that he will speak to his lawyers regarding the issue.

  • Akufo-Addo has lost faith in Bawumia – Sam George

Akufo-Addo has lost faith in Bawumia – Sam George

Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has contended that President Akufo-Addo no longer places trust in the judgment of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

In his perspective, the president, who initially brought Dr. Bawumia into the political arena, now dismisses his opinions as lacking the credibility to be implemented.

“Nana Addo no longer takes Bawumia’s opinion as credible enough to even give it a chance to be implemented. Nana Addo no longer trusts the ability and decision-making of Dr Bawumia.

“In the past three weeks, we’ve seen enough reasons to tell the people of Ghana that Dr Bawumia is not the choice for Ghana.

“Why? Because even the sitting president who brought him on because he trusted his abilities has realized that Dr Bawumia’s opinions no longer matter. E-levy, Dr Bawumia, we are being told was opposed to it, but the president went ahead with it.

“If we are to take what Dr Bawumia said in his lecture on bet tax, the president ignored Dr Bawumia; on Emissions tax, the president ignored him. 15% on electricity, the president ignored him and now we are even seeing that the President ignored Dr Bawumia’s opinion on the size of government,” he said.

Sam George expressed these views on the Newsfile program on Joynews channel on February 17, 2024.

  • Anti-LGBTQ bill is not targeting members but their actions not backed by science – Sam George

Anti-LGBTQ bill is not targeting members but their actions not backed by science – Sam George

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampam constituency, Sam George, has clarified that the criminalization of LGBTQ pertains to the act itself, not the individuals involved.

He emphasized that anyone choosing to engage in LGBTQ activities must face the consequences.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, February 17, Mr. George dismissed claims by the Deputy Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who suggested that the LGBTQ act is behavioral.

The Ningo-Prampram MP emphasized that the LGBTQ act is not supported by science but is merely an opinion.

“It is not backed by science and is one that I would call emotional. The science and the facts establish the fact that homosexuality is not behavioral, and I can take anybody on that debate,” he stated.

Mr. George stressed that “if you want to be objective, you cannot be selective in your objectivity.”

Mr. Afenyo-Markin took a stand against the third reading of the anti-LGBTQ bill in Parliament on Thursday, February 15. While he expressed support for the principles of the bill, he emphasized his opposition to the provision that would result in the imprisonment of individuals accused of engaging in or promoting LGBTQ activities.

“The essence of this motion is to afford this august house the opportunity to thoroughly consider amendments that are proposed in the bill with the view of substituting community service for incarceration,” he said.

According to him, the bill’s punitive action would not aid in rehabilitating the culprits.

“The issue before us is behavioral, and it is my humble view that in dealing with behavioural matters, incarceration is not the solution. It makes the matter worse.

He explained that “to jail a person for his/her sexuality will not be the solution in maintaining our Ghanaian family values and ensuring proper human sexual rights.”

Parliament, on Thursday, February 8, approved a three-to-five-year jail term for individuals who willfully promote or sponsor LGBTQ activities. Those caught in the act are to be sentenced to a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 3 years.

  • Akufo-Addo doesn’t listen, he promoted Ofori-Atta when we wanted him out – Sam George

Akufo-Addo doesn’t listen, he promoted Ofori-Atta when we wanted him out – Sam George

Ningo-Prampram MP, Samuel Nartey George, has criticized President Akufo-Addo’s recent reshuffle, suggesting that it indicates a disconnection from the sentiments of the Ghanaian populace.

Mr. George contends that the President disregarded the public’s calls to downsize the government, as evidenced by the reshuffle’s failure to address this issue.

In his view, President Akufo-Addo’s decision to retain and promote former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta instead of dismissing him entirely reflects a lack of concern for the prevailing sentiments and mood of Ghanaians.

During an appearance on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, February 17, the lawmaker expressed skepticism about the potential effectiveness of the newly appointed Ministers given the current circumstances.

“The president clearly does not listen to Ghanaians. He clearly does not understand what the pulse of the nation is and has lost connection with the country.

“With this reshuffle, the President has not done what the Ghanaian people asked for. Ghanaians wanted Ken Ofori-Atta out of government. He has actually been promoted.”

“He has been given more or less a supervisory role over the Finance Ministry because, in his roles to do negotiations, he has become the ambassador of the President on financial matters and the Finance Minister works under him.

“So Ofori-Atta has actually been promoted when we asked for him to be taken out of government. This shows a President who is completely out of sync with the country,” he said.

After facing months of public pressure, President Akufo-Addo has made adjustments to his government. These changes come following the resignation of former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen and Agriculture Minister Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, who stepped down to focus on their political campaigns.

According to the 1992 Constitution, the President formally notified the Speaker of Parliament of the government’s new composition on Tuesday, February 13.

The adjustments include the appointment of new individuals to ministerial positions, as well as reshuffling some members to different ministries.

  • Afenyo-Markin wants to destroy anti-LGBTQ bill – Sam George

Afenyo-Markin wants to destroy anti-LGBTQ bill – Sam George

Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampam, Samuel Nartey George, has accused Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin of attempting to undermine the anti-gay bill.

Mr Afenyo-Markin successfully blocked the third reading of the bill, preventing its passage.

Mr George believes that without Mr. Afenyo-Markin’s intervention, the controversial bill would have been passed.

Mr Afenyo-Markin clarified that while he supports the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values bill, he opposes the provision that would lead to the imprisonment of individuals accused of engaging in or promoting LGBTQ activities.

“The essence of this motion is to afford this House the opportunity to thoroughly consider amendments that are proposed in the bill with the view of substituting community service for incarceration,” Afenyo-Markin explained.

He noted that the punitive nature of the bill will not facilitate rehabilitation of the culprits.

“The issue before us is behavioral, and it is my humble view that in dealing with behavioural matters, incarceration is not the solution. It makes the matter worse” the Efutu MP pointed out.

“To jail a person for his/her sexuality will not be the solution in maintaining our Ghanaian family values and ensuring proper human sexual rights,” he stressed.

Sam Nartey George described Afenyo-Markin’s contention as baseless, indicating a disagreement over the Deputy Majority Leader’s reasoning for blocking the third reading of the anti-gay bill.

Speaking on News 360 on TV3 Thursday, February 15, he said “Deputy Majority Leader, his comments today are not new to the house. Last week Wednesday he spent about an hour and  15 minutes making the same submission,  last week Thursday he did about another house on the same subject, last week Wednesday when he made his submission there was a vote of of the house and his motion was defeated.

“Last week Thursday his motion was defeated.  Today when he made his submission against the amendment it was defeated, It is a journey of no value and of no substance in the bill because what he is seeking to do is to destroy the essence of the bill.

“The attempt to take away the custodial sentencing from this bill and replace it with community service is not just strange by the Deputy Majority Leader but it is actually an attempt to kill the bill. I am happy that in the three instances, he has been raising the issue, he has been standing alone as the house collectively, both the majority and the minority voted against him,” he added.

  • It is unfair to jail individuals based on sexuality to preserve family values – Afenyo-Markin

It is unfair to jail individuals based on sexuality to preserve family values – Afenyo-Markin

Deputy Majority Leader, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has halted the progress of the anti-LGBTQ bill by presenting compelling arguments aimed at blocking its third reading in Parliament.

Expressing his stance on Thursday, February 15, 2024, Afenyo-Markin asserted that imprisoning individuals based on their sexual preferences would not align with the Ghanaian values that the bill aims to safeguard.

Consequently, his intervention prevented the bill from being passed.

Earlier on the same day, Sam George, a proponent of the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values, commonly known as the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, had expressed optimism about the bill’s passage into law by the day’s end.

However, the Effutu MP articulated in Parliament that while he does not outrightly oppose the principles of the bill, he strongly objects to the provision that mandates imprisonment for individuals accused of engaging in or promoting LGBTQ activities.

Afenyo-Markin argued that imprisoning individuals based on their sexual orientation contradicts the objective of upholding Ghanaian family values and ensuring proper human sexual rights.

He emphasized that addressing behavioral issues related to LGBTQ matters requires alternative solutions to incarceration, as he believes imprisonment exacerbates the problem rather than resolving it.

“To jail a person for his/her sexuality will not be the solution in maintaining our Ghanaian family values and ensuring proper human sexual rights,” he stated.

He proposed a thorough consideration of amendments, suggesting the substitution of community service for incarceration.

In his view, punitive measures included in the bill would not contribute to the rehabilitation of offenders. Despite this, Sam George, the bill’s sponsor, rebuts Afenyo-Markin’s argument, contending that it lacks validity.

Nigeria’s unexpected loss in the finals of the 2023 African Cup of Nations to Ivory Coast has sparked diverse reactions on social media platforms.

While Nigerians are expressing their frustrations over the defeat, a group of Ghanaian entertainers have seized the opportunity to engage in friendly banter with their West African neighbors.

Prominent figures such as Kidi, Kofi Kinaata, John Dumelo, M.anifest, Bridget Otoo, Black Sherif, Kwadwo Sheldon, and Lydia Forson have taken to their social media pages to humorously taunt Nigerians.

Had Nigeria emerged victorious, it would have brought them level with Ghana’s Black Stars in terms of AFCON wins.

However, their failure to overcome Ivory Coast on Saturday night means that Ghana, despite not clinching the trophy since 1982, maintains a total of four AFCON titles, while Nigeria currently holds three.

  • Sam George lambasts Dr Bawumia for revisiting old pledges as he dennounces some taxes

Sam George lambasts Dr Bawumia for revisiting old pledges as he dennounces some taxes

The political arena reverberated with criticism as Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George, took aim at Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, accusing him of resurrecting old promises in his recent lecture titled “Ghana’s Next Chapter: Selfless Leadership and Bold Solutions for the Future.”

In a scathing rebuke, Sam George highlighted perceived discrepancies in Bawumia’s claims regarding digitization and unfulfilled pledges. The MP questioned Bawumia’s assertions about the effectiveness of digitization initiatives, pointing to instances such as the alleged persistence of corruption at the passport office despite claims of digitization success. He cited a Daily Graphic report from September 2016 and fact-checks by organizations like Fact-Check Ghana as evidence contradicting Bawumia’s statements.

Moreover, Sam George criticized Bawumia for repeatedly promising initiatives without tangible outcomes, including the provision of laptops for tertiary students and the issuance of unique Ghana Card numbers for children from birth. He accused Bawumia of recycling promises made on multiple occasions without delivering on them, labeling the Vice President as a “confident trickster” who seeks to deceive Ghanaians with eloquent rhetoric.

The Ningo-Prampram MP’s remarks come in the wake of Dr. Bawumia’s announcement as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer. Dr. Bawumia declared his intention to abolish several controversial taxes if elected as president, including the E-Levy, Bet Tax, and Emissions Tax. This announcement marks a reversal from Bawumia’s previous stance on the E-Levy, which he had initially opposed before maintaining silence on the issue.

During his address to the nation, Dr. Bawumia reiterated his opposition to taxes on electronic financial transactions and emphasized the importance of promoting a cashless economy. He outlined plans to introduce a new tax regime aimed at benefiting individuals and businesses, particularly small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs).

In response to Sam George’s criticism, Dr. Bawumia has yet to issue a formal response. However, the exchange underscores the intensifying political discourse as Ghana approaches the 2024 elections. With both sides seeking to solidify their positions and sway public opinion, debates over policy promises and past performances are likely to remain central themes in the upcoming campaign season.

You fought us over baseless e-levy only for Bawumia to scrap it – Sam George to NPP MPs

The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, has criticized Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia‘s pledge to abolish the E-levy, equating it to a deceptive move aimed at NPP MPs who previously supported the tax implementation.

In a post on his X platform dated February 8, 2024, Sam George questioned the sentiments of the NPP MPs who enthusiastically applauded Bawumia’s announcement, highlighting the apparent contradiction in their positions.

Expressing skepticism, Sam George noted that Bawumia’s statement essentially implied that the MPs lacked foresight in their support for the E-levy, dismissing their arguments and debates as baseless.

“I have a question to ask my Colleague NPP MPs who were sitting in the UPSA Hall yesterday and clapping vigorously for the comical performance of Dr @MBawumia. How do you all feel after fighting the NDC MPs and walking out and insulting us over the e-Levy?

“Now Bawumia says you all are short-sighted and not critical in your thinking and analysis. He says your arguments and debates in favour of e-Levy are all bogus and useless. And you were clapping yesterday? Or you were not paying attention? Like I am trying to understand how you must be feeling. Anyway, Ken Ofori-Atta is still Finance Minister after all your complaints. We move,” he added.

He specifically addressed the NPP MPs who had vehemently supported the tax, asking how they felt now that their candidate proposed its cancellation.

Despite their complaints about Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, Sam George concluded his post with a nonchalant “We move.”

“To move towards a cashless economy, however, we have to encourage the population to use electronic channels of payment. To accomplish this, there will be no taxes on digital payments under my administration. The e-levy will, therefore, be abolished,” he said at the UPSA auditorium on February 7.

Dr. Bawumia, who serves as both Vice President and the NPP’s flagbearer, had announced during a manifesto delivery at the UPSA auditorium on February 7 that, if elected President, he would eliminate the E-levy as part of a broader strategy to promote a cashless economy.

  • “No gree” for Bawumia’s empty promises – Sam George to Ghanaians

“No gree” for Bawumia’s empty promises – Sam George to Ghanaians

Ningo-Prampram’s Member of Parliament (MP), Sam George, has expressed his steadfast stance against what he perceives as unfulfilled promises by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, emphasizing a lack of tolerance for deceit.

In an interview with GhanaWeb, Sam George cautioned Ghanaians against being misled by Bawumia’s statements, utilizing the Nigerian slang ‘no gree for anybody’ to convey the importance of not succumbing to manipulation or deception.

Citing instances where he believes Bawumia has fallen short, Sam George pointed to the disputed claim of digitizing corruption at the passport office, challenging the authenticity of Bawumia’s digitization assertions.

He also criticized the repeated promises made by Bawumia regarding Ghana Card numbers for children from birth, highlighting the inconsistency in the announcements.

Sam George went on to question Bawumia’s credibility, citing unfulfilled promises such as the construction of 350 schools and the delay in providing laptops to teachers who had paid for them.

“When Dr. Bawumia talks, digitization has taken over corruption at the passport office, did you not see Minister for Foreign Affairs storm the place very angry to sack ‘goro boys’? So where was the digitization? Even that claim of digitization has been disputed by the Daily Graphic report of September 2016 when that project was launched. Even the fact-check Ghana has called Dr. Bawumia a liar for putting out such fake information. A man’s words are what you will judge him on. This is the same person who made promises that they will build 350 schools, promising tertiary student loan for laptops, meanwhile, he has taken money from teachers and they have not gotten their laptops yet.

“He promises that children will now get unique Ghana Card numbers from birth. This is a story that was first announced by Bawumia in November 2021. He again announced in April 2022, in June 2022, February 2023, and April 2023, so this is the 6th time Bawumia is making such a promise. The macro indicators Bawumia gave are false and misleading and you sit and ask who are his advisors.”

The Ningo-Prampram MP further stated that, “You say you are the one responsible for all digitization stuff yet you say, as for the E-Levy, I am not part of it. I mean this is a man we have come to know, to understand and recognize him for who he is, that he is a confident trickster, and he is someone who is going to trick the words and use fluency and eloquence bamboozle through Ghanaians. Right now, our eyes are open and this year, 2024, the motto is ‘no gree for anybody’ not even Bawumia and his lies.”

He criticized Bawumia’s role in the controversial E-Levy, emphasizing the contradictory statement that he is not part of it despite being responsible for digitization efforts.

The Ningo-Prampram MP characterized Bawumia as a “confident trickster” and urged Ghanaians to be wary of his eloquence and fluency in delivering promises. With the motto for 2024 being ‘no gree for anybody,’ Sam George conveyed a clear message of skepticism towards Bawumia and his alleged lies.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s Flagbearer, recently announced plans to abolish the E-Levy, Bet Tax, and Emissions Tax if elected as the President of Ghana.

This announcement follows the introduction of the controversial E-Levy in 2022, which had initially faced opposition from Bawumia.

Same script, writer and plot but different ink; we will not be deceived—Sam George blasts Bawumia

The Member of Parliament representing the Ningo-Prampram constituency, Sam George has strongly criticized Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia‘s recent address at the University of Ghana.

The Vice President outlined his visions for the nation, particularly if elected president in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

Among the notable proposals presented by Dr. Bawumia were the cancellation of the controversial e-levy, the abolition of Value Added Tax (VAT) on electricity, the elimination of emission tax, and the introduction of zipline technology to enhance the healthcare sector.

However, Sam George did not mince words in his response to the Vice President’s address.

He labelled the entire presentation as a “total falsehood” and devoid of merits.

George went further to express his scepticism about the vision presented by Bawumia, suggesting that it was either a product of clear confusion or a deliberate attempt to mislead the Ghanaian people.

Taking to Twitter, Sam George posted his reactions, stating, “Same Script. Same Writer. Same Plot. Different Ink. Bawumia is either clearly confused or deliberately misleading the Ghanaian people. This is not a new chapter. It is simply Act 1, Scene 2 of the horror movie we have been living since 2017. We would respond appropriately!”

The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram constituency accused the Vice President of presenting a different chapter but with the same claims and falsehoods.

The exchange highlights the growing political tensions as the 2024 elections draw nearer, with both sides expressing divergent views on the future direction of the country.

  • Stonebwoy’s team paid GHC169,000 instead of 70k to use sports stadium – Sam George

Stonebwoy’s team paid GHC169,000 instead of 70k to use sports stadium – Sam George

The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Hon. Sam George, has brought to light a financial discrepancy involving the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the renowned Dancehall artist Stonebwoy.

The NSA had initially claimed that Stonebwoy paid a sum of 70,000 Ghanaian cedis for organizing his BHIM concert at the Accra Sports Stadium during the Christmas Holidays.

However, following a thorough investigation by Hon. Sam George, it was discovered that Stonebwoy had actually paid a significantly higher amount, totaling GHC 169,000, in contrast to the originally stated GHC7000.

The revelation raises questions about the accuracy of financial transactions and transparency within the National Sports Authority.

During an interview on Adom FM, Sam George said “ my questioning (at the PAC meeting) I had evidence of GH₵70,000 Ghana cities being paid by the Burniton Music Group representatives of Stonebwoy for his Fifth Dimension concert.

“I asked the Director-General (Peter Twumasi) if GH₵70,000 had been paid to the accounts for that event and he confirmed that yes, GH₵70,000.”

“I asked him if it was sufficient for the return of the pitch, or any damages to the pitch, but he did not answer. But post the event, I have now gotten the contract that the NSA signed with the Burniton Music Group and I’ve gotten receipts of payment.

“It was not GH₵70,000. It was GH₵169,000. But it was paid in three instalments – GH₵70,000, GH₵70,000 and GH₵29,000.

“And the Director General is literally before the parliamentary select committee under oath, confirming it was GH₵70,000.”

Sam George noted that this among other activities at the NSA has influenced him to support the call for investigations into the authority by the PAC Chairman James Avesdzi Klutse.

He stated that the investigations should be done “not just by the auditor general, but even the office of special prosecutor.”

Meanwhile, the manager of Ghanaian artiste Stonebwoy, Chief Abiola, has corroborated Sam George’s claim that the musician paid more than GH₵70,000 to the National Sports Authority.

He, however, did not reveal the exact amount paid stating that as the issues unfold he does not want to go into details at the moment.

Sam George narrates how new, uninsured NSA pick-up vehicle went missing from parking lot

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George, revealed a peculiar incident concerning the National Sports Authority (NSA) during a Joy News interview on Monday, February 5, 2024.

According to Sam George, a brand new pickup truck owned by the NSA mysteriously disappeared after being parked in an unconventional location, deviating from its usual parking spot.

He further mentioned that the vehicle was uninsured, adding to the unusual circumstances surrounding its disappearance. Additionally, Sam George raised concerns about ongoing illegal activities within the NSA.

“You know, there is the issue of the NSA vehicle that is outstanding. Just listen to the chronology of the events and draw your conclusion. The NSA always parks its vehicles in Kumasi at the Sports Hotel, which is part of the Kumasi Sports Stadium. Very close to it.

“The new director comes in, and a brand new pickup is bought. He gets to Kumasi with his driver and says, I don’t want you to park at the Sports Hotel. Go and park at a new hotel. The vehicle is parked at the new hotel; that very night, there is a robbery at the hotel and the only thing that is stolen is the pickup.”

“You are seeing theft. You are seeing blatant lies; you are seeing misappropriation of state funds. How do we continue like this? And the clear disrespect and undermining of his sector minister is mind-boggling. “Except someone is sitting somewhere and maybe the Jubilee House is backing what the sports Director General is doing; you can’t see this happening in any institution,” he lamented.

Earlier in the day, during a session of the Public Accounts Committee, Sam George engaged in a heated exchange with Professor Twumasi, the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), and the NSA’s accountant.

The disagreement stemmed from allegations of mishandling funds received by the NSA during the Christmas period.

Sam George, a committee member, expressed bewilderment after the NSA’s accountant confirmed that a portion of the funds had been deposited into the Kumasi account. This revelation prompted Sam George to press the accountant for explanations.

The accountant explained that “Partly was lodged in Accra and the other in Kumasi. The invoices we issued to these two…”. He then gave a long pause that prompted a reaction from Sam George.

Sam George quizzed again ‘”Do you have an answer for the committee?” and the accountant replied, “Yes, Mr Chairman.” Sam George then asked him to proceed and give the reasons behind the decision to lodge some payment in Accra and in Kumasi.

The accountant then referred the question to the Director-General which prompted a response from Sam George who asked “But you are the accountant, lodgements are made to you so why is the Director-General of the NSA supposed to explain what your role is? Is it because he directed?

The accountant responded, “It’s because he is the spending officer.” Sam George was not satisfied with the response and pushed further “Lodgements of the cheques are different from the disbursement of the cheques so on whose order or authority did you lodge cheques made for Accra Sports Stadium into the Kumasi account”.

    The accountant replied “The Director-General”.

The exchange between Sam George and the accountant dragged on until the accountant admitted that Professor Twumasi instructed him to deposit the money in the Kumasi account.

Sam George then turned his attention to the NSA boss, but Professor Twumasi appeared to struggle to address the concerns effectively.

This prompted James Klutse Avedzi to step in and take over the questioning. Despite Avedzi’s intervention, Professor Twumasi continued to have difficulty providing clear answers.

Avedzi, visibly displeased with the NSA’s response, announced that the committee would propose a forensic audit of the NSA’s accounts to the Auditor-General.

“I want to make a recommendation which will be put in the report. Listening to what is happening here, I think the place is in a mess,” said Dr. Avedzi.

  • We are not using ‘disinfectant’ to treat our water – GWCL

We are not using ‘disinfectant’ to treat our water – GWCL

Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has refuted the claims made by the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George, regarding the importation of a new water treatment product called ‘One Drop’.

The MP had alleged on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on February 1, 2024, that the government, in collaboration with GWCL, had procured the ‘One Drop’ water treatment product for use by the company, replacing traditional chlorine.

In response to these allegations, GWCL issued a statement on February 2, 2023, denying the claims. The company clarified that it adheres to established protocols, working in collaboration with regulatory agencies and stakeholders, before endorsing any new water treatment products.

The statement read, “Per GWL’s Standard Operating Procedures, any decision regarding the adoption of new water treatment technologies or products is made through a comprehensive evaluation process, in consultation with relevant stakeholders and regulatory agencies like the Food and Drugs Authority, Ghana Standards Authority, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission and communicated transparently to the public.”

It further indicated that “By GWCL’s internal procedures, management reserves the right to act on a positive evaluation report by writing to either the Public Procurement Agency (PPA) for sole sourcing or to advertise for competitive tendering processes. No contract has been awarded by GWL for the supply of the “One Drop” disinfectant for water treatment.”

Furthermore, the company noted that it presently employs chlorine-based disinfectants for water treatment. The disinfectants in use include Chlorine Gas, Calcium Hypochlorite granules, and Chlorine Tablets.

Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) urged all stakeholders, including the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, to desist from spreading unfounded rumors and misinformation about the company’s water treatment practices.

NPP has become a very violent party – Sam George asserts

Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam George, has voiced apprehensions regarding the increasing trend of violence within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and criticized President Akufo-Addo’s apparent silence in response to these incidents.

Speaking on the Good Morning Ghana Show on Metro TV on February 2, Sam George specifically pointed out the president’s failure to address significant acts of violence, including the killing of eight Ghanaians during the 2020 elections and the lack of compensation for victims of the Ayawaso West Wougon violence after five years.

In a stern warning, Sam George remarked, “The pain we feel from Akufo-Addo’s violence, his children, and their grandchildren will feel it.”

He highlighted the absence of acknowledgment or condolences from the president concerning the eight Ghanaians who lost their lives during the 2020 elections, allegedly at the hands of soldiers.

Expressing his lack of surprise at the recent chaos during the NPP parliamentary primaries, Sam George pointed to the party’s history of violence. He recalled the Ayawaso West Wougon violence during the 2019 by-election and underscored the urgent need for accountability.

“I will maintain the fact that I am surprised with what we have seen in Yendi; it is the hallmark of the NPP. They have become a very violent party. Yesterday marked the 5th anniversary of the Ayawaso West Wougon violence. I looked at my yesterday, and I almost wept because this beautiful world would not have lived if I had died 5 years ago,” remarked Sam George during the interview on Thursday.

Sam George blows alarm over ‘disinfectant’ being imported for GWCL to treat water

The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has accused the government of importing a water treatment product called One Drop for use by the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), allegedly in place of the traditional chlorine.

According to George, the One Drop product, set to arrive in the country in two weeks, was approved as a disinfectant but not specifically for water treatment by Ghana’s regulatory bodies.

He claimed that the initiative was started by the former Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah.

“In 1908, the colonial government introduced chlorine into the treatment of water in Ghana and chlorine is being used all over the world without a problem. All of a sudden somebody wakes up and decides that a product that has been refused by the UK and USA, which is of Norwegian origin but it is not being used by the people of Norway, is fit for use in Ghana.

“This whole thing started under the former Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah and now, in about two weeks, the first shipment of the product called One Drop is arriving in Ghana and the Ghana Water Company is buying it to stop the use of chlorine in the treatment of our water” he said.

During an interview on Metro TV on February 1, 2024, George questioned the safety and efficacy of One Drop.

He argued that chlorine, a long-standing water treatment agent, has proven effective, while One Drop has been rejected by the UK and USA. George expressed concerns about potential risks to the health and environment of Ghanaians.

“So far, it’s been checked by CRIR, EPA and the FDA but it was checked when they brought it in and approved it as a disinfectant. So as we speak today, the product is being used for cleaning in hospitals and also in Kotoka during the COVID,” he added.

“Chlorine has served us well. Even with that, we are still dealing with some level of contamination in our water. Now you are going to bring a product where the country in which the product is being manufactured, has not approved its use in the purification of its water,” he added.

Contrarily, Richard Ahiagba, the Director of Communication for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), refuted the claim, stating that GWCL is not transitioning away from chlorine in water treatment.

  • 10 years ago: Sam George’s appointment unknown to Mahama

10 years ago: Sam George’s appointment unknown to Mahama

THIS ARTICLE WAS FIRST PUBLISHED DECEMBER 31, 2014

The circumstances leading to the appointment of Sam George as presidential staffer was unknown to President John Dramani Mahama, a source with knowledge of the happenings has told ghanabusinessnews.com.

Sam George was appointed as communication consultant at the presidency several months ago, another source said.

According to ghanabusinessnews.com, the sources, who didn’t want to be named, all said the President got to know about the appointment after it was done and “he only fumed about it.”

Mr George, a graduate of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, for months now has been representing the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) on radio talk shows in the capital Accra.

He speaks on almost every matter including the economy.

However, his recent Facebook comments and swipe at Ivor Greenstreet of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) during the NDC National Congress in Kumasi has generated hot debates and calls for his dismissal if indeed he was a presidential staffer.

In his response to Mr Greenstreet’s scathing criticism of the NDC government about the country’s current economic difficulties and power outages, Mr George remarked that Mr Greenstreet needed “an elevation to see” the good works of the NDC.

While some Ghanaians and party sympathisers consider the response appropriate to what they considered an attack on the ruling party, other citizens and party supporters see it as inappropriate considering the fact that Mr Greenstreet is disabled and uses a wheelchair.

Mr James Afedo, a communications expert and sympathiser of the ruling party, wrote on his Facebook page expressing his disagreement with MrGeorge’s swipe at Mr Greenstreet. In the said Facebook post, Mr Afedo described Mr George as “of the office of the president”.

But in a comment on the post Mr Stan Dogbe, a presidential staffer, challenged Mr Afedo, saying among other things that “you may want to also check and verify exactly where your friend, brother and comrade works, operates and supporting our party and government from, because your very conclusive position is not the fact. And Sam does not speak for the President either.”

When ghanabusinessnews.com reportedly wrote an email to Mr Dogbe asking him to clarify Mr George’s position at the presidency he declined, describing the request as “misdirected” and asked that they contact the Communications Minister instead. Efforts by the outfit to reach the Communications Minister were unsuccessful.

But several sources close to the presidency have reportedly indicated to ghanabusinessnews.com that Mr George is a presidential staffer.

Meanwhile, according to ghanabusinessnews.com, a Ghanaian Palaver report available to them purports that Sam George has tendered in his resignation.

The contents of the report can however not be confirmed.

“The Ghanaian Palaver can confirm that the Presidential Staffer and key communicator at the Presidency, Mr Samuel George Nartey, has resigned from his post following certain comments he made about the physical ability of the General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party over the weekend.

In a four-paragraph resignation letter dated 23 December 2014, addressed to the President and copied to the Chief of Staff, Sam George, as he is popularly known, thanked the President for believing in him and giving him the opportunity to serve in his government,” the introduction to the report stated.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has voiced its support for the position of its flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, on LGBTQ+ issues.

The former President recently expressed his opposition to same-sex marriages, citing his faith and emphasizing the natural order of creation.

Samuel Nartey George, the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, affirmed that any decision made by the party’s flagbearer reflects the party’s stance on LGBTQ+ matters.

He noted that both past and current party leadership endorse the proponents of the anti-gay bill.

The bill, aimed at criminalizing LGBT activities, is currently at the 60% consideration stage in Parliament, with George expressing optimism about its eventual passage.

GRA boss should be declared persona non grata – Sam George

The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam George, is pressing the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament to declare Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), persona non grata.

He asserts that Owusu-Amoah has been working without a government contract since October 2021, having exceeded the retirement age, raising concerns about potential illegality in his position. During a recent Public Accounts Committee (PAC) session, Sam George highlighted the age-related issues surrounding the GRA Commissioner-General.

In an interview on Citi FM, Sam George expressed his intention to formally write to Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin and the finance committee, urging them exclude Owusu-Amoah from all Public Accounts Committee’s engagements.

“I know for a fact that the GRA Commissioner-General, since turning 60 years old in October 2021, has not had a contract. This is not the first time I’ve raised this matter directly with the Commissioner-General, drawing his attention to the fact that he’s engaged in illegality,” he said.

He added: “I will be raising this with the Speaker [Alban Bagbin] as well when Parliament reconvenes, drawing the attention of the Speaker and the finance committee to the fact that Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah must be declared persona non grata before PAC. We should not entertain someone who has no legal basis.”

“He has engaged in a number of dubious and unscrupulous contracts. The whole country knows about the $100 SML contract. He has been used to carry out all the legalities for Ken Ofori-Atta [Finance Minister]. Why have they kept Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah in the post, if not that he’s facilitating corruption and blatant stealing at GRA? This must be a cause of worry for all of us.”

Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority is occupying his position illegally- Sam George explains why

Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament (MP) , Sam George, asserts that the Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Reverend Amishaddai Owusu-Amoah, is holding his position unlawfully.

The MP cites multiple reasons to substantiate his claims, primarily emphasizing the Commissioner-General‘s age as a significant factor.

Sam George contends that Reverend Amishaddai Owusu-Amoah has been executing the duties of the Commissioner-General without a valid contract since October 2021.

The absence of a contractual agreement raises questions about the legitimacy of his continued tenure in the crucial position.

Furthermore, the MP accuses the GRA Commissioner General of endorsing questionable contracts, specifically mentioning the controversial $100 million SML sweetheart deal.

According to Sam George, these contracts were approved with the support of Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, who, in the eyes of the MP, is implicated in the alleged illegality.

During the public hearings of the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament, Sam George also alleges that Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has tacitly approved the Commissioner General’s illicit occupation.

The MP questions the uniqueness of Reverend Amishaddai Owusu-Amoah’s skills, suggesting that the violation of the country’s laws may be unjustifiably endorsed.

The accusations and revelations add a new layer of controversy to the operations of the GRA, putting the spotlight on the Commissioner General’s purported illegal occupancy and raising concerns about the transparency and adherence to regulations within the institution.

Below is the full statement by Sam George:

Yesterday, at the public hearings of the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament, I asked a very simple Public Interest Question of the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Reverend Amishaddai Owusu-Amoah.

My very simple question was which year did he attain the age of 60. Boom! Drama began. My Colleagues on the NPP side got upset with my question and a 90 minute stand off ensued including a mysterious ‘fault’ with the PA system .

After the 90 minute break, I manage to get a response from him and I am allowed only one follow up question by the Chairman. That question was if the Commissioner-General had a valid contract to remain at post. He answered that for the past twenty seven (27) months, he has occupied the position without a contract.

    Now for those wondering why I asked these questions, here are the issues;

    1. Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai turned 60 years in October 2021,  twenty seven (27) months ago.

    2. Per the Public Service Commission of Ghana regulations, anyone above the age of 60 can be maintained with a 1/2-year contract with the possibility of an extension of another year.

    3. Since October 2021, Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai has been at post and carried out functions as the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority without a contract. He has signed contracts like the dubious $100 million SML sweetheart deal with the approval and support of Ken Ofori-Atta.

    4. Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai replaced Mr. Kofi Nti as Commissioner-General when the later still had 18 months of his four (4) year contract outstanding. The reason his contract was terminated was that he had turned 60 years.

    5. The question we need answers to is why Ken Ofori-Atta has kept his darling Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai at post for another twenty seven (27) months without a contract?

    6. The same Ken Ofori-Atta told Parliament that President Akufo-Addo had given instructions that contract extensions beyond the age of 60 would cease except in exceptional cases where the skill of the individual in question is unique and not readily available. What skill does Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai have that is unique and for which reason the laws of the country have been broken?

    7. Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai cannot and should not be allowed to continue his stay in office even one day longer. There must be a forensic audit of his actions in the past 27 months to ascertain what damage his illegal stay has caused the tax payer. I would pursue this matter to its logical conclusion. For God and Country.

Sister Derby swiftly responded to the politician’s statements, challenging his claim of being free from any involvement in an illicit relationship.

In an interview on the StarrChat show with Bola Ray, Sam George confidently dared any woman to provide evidence of being his mistress, emphasizing that his wife possesses all the qualities of both a wife and a mistress, fulfilling all his needs.

Sam George’s remarks have stirred a wave of reactions online, with many expressing skepticism.

Actress Adu Safowah joined the conversation, suggesting that the MP’s alleged small manhood might be a reason for his commitment to only one woman.

Alhassan Fuseini, now departed, was a member of the convoy escorting Mrs. Bawumia when a collision occurred with a bus at Ohene-Nkwata near Nobewam in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The multi-vehicle accident included the collision of two Toyota Land Cruisers, a Mercedes Benz car, and a Sprinter Benz bus.

Among the eight victims, four sustained severe injuries.

Despite the gravity of the accident, Samira Bawumia remained unharmed and sustained no serious injuries.

However, it is reported that one Fuseini, the bodyguard of the second lady, lost his life in the accident. Fuseini has been with the Bawumia’s since 2008.

Mourners gathered on Sunday morning, January 14, 2024, to pay their respects at the funeral service for Alhassan, who until his demise remained a dedicated member of Samira Bawumia‘s security detail.

The somber event commemorated his life, cut short tragically in the accident that happened on Saturday.

During the ceremony today, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife, Samira Bawumia, were observed in a solemn mood as they accompanied Alhassan’s family.

The burial was performed in line with Islamic customs.

Expose me, I dare you! – Sam George to alleged side chicks

Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam Dzata George, has taken on the challenge of proving his unwavering loyalty and complete fidelity to his wife.

During an interview with Bola Ray, George invited any lady to provide evidence of being his extramarital partner.

Sam George emphasized that he has never been involved in any extramarital affairs, asserting that his wife fulfills all his needs.

According to the Ningo Prampram MP, his wife embodies the complete package, serving both as a wife and a “side chick,” making him uninterested in seeking companionship elsewhere.

“My life is work, house and church. If you know any girl anywhere, I am dating, just call her to the show, I am waiting. I am throwing a challenge out there. Anybody should bring evidence. You won’t ever see me sitting at a spot alone or with some random girl. If you see me anywhere, especially at +233, my wife is always sitting by me,” he told Bola Ray on the StarChat show.

Sam George stated that he fulfills his roles as husband, boyfriend, and “sugar daddy” to his wife as part of his strategies to liven up his house.

“I tell my wife say she be my side chick and my wife. Wey me I be in sugar daddy, boyfriend, husband all put together. The thing wey boys go fit do, I dey do. Whatever, husbands do in the house, I do it. And whatever, sugar daddies do, I do them as well,” he said in Pijin mixed with English.

It is well known that Sam George frequently shows off his wife on social media, particularly when they are spotted together at public events.

Sometime in August 2022, the couple, who have been married for the previous 11 years, renewed their vows.

  • Sam George calls for interpretation of Article 108 over Akufo-Addo’s failure to assent to 3 Bills

Sam George calls for interpretation of Article 108 over Akufo-Addo’s failure to assent to 3 Bills

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George, is advocating for Parliament to seek an interpretation of Article 108 of the Constitution from the Supreme Court.

This suggestion comes in light of President Akufo-Addo’s refusal to sign certain bills into law, citing violations of Article 108.

Sam George, the lead sponsor of the controversial anti-LGBTQ bill, suggests that a legal interpretation of Article 108 by the Supreme Court would provide clarity on its limits for Parliament.

“The resolution to this matter is for all of us to go to the Supreme Court. Parliament must go to the Supreme Court to seek interpretation of Article 108 and let the judges distinguish it for us.

“Is it the position of the law, or is it the intention of the framers of the 1992 constitution that Parliament can not on its own pass legislation? Then let’s know that parliament is a rubber stamp Parliament and can not pass legislation,” he said.

Sam George emphasized that seeking an interpretation from the Supreme Court is aimed at clarity and not a legal challenge against the President.

Additionally, Francis Xavier Sosu, a key sponsor of the Criminal Offences Amendment Bill 2023, expressed disappointment, suggesting that the President chose to politicize the bill instead of considering the interests of vulnerable women.

“I think that he [President] is being misled or better still he is choosing politics over the protection of human rights. He is choosing politics over the protection of women’s rights. He is choosing politics over protecting vulnerable women in various witch camps probably dying on a daily basis,” he said.

On December 4, President Akufo-Addo mentioned that he couldn’t sign certain bills, including the Criminal Offences Amendment Bill 2023 and the Armed Forces Amendment Bill 2023, into law due to constitutional concerns.

The Armed Forces Bill passed in July aims to amend sections of Act 29 and the Armed Forces Act, 1962 (Act 105) to replace the Death Penalty with life imprisonment. The Criminal Offences Amendment Bill 2023 seeks to prohibit labeling individuals as witches, among other related matters.

  • God has questions to answer if I see Bawumia, Ofori-Atta in heaven – Sam George

God has questions to answer if I see Bawumia, Ofori-Atta in heaven – Sam George

In a recent installment of Starr Chat with Bola Ray, the Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam George, sparked controversy by expressing skepticism about Vice President Bawumia and Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta’s chances of making it to Heaven.

With unwavering confidence, he asserted that if he were to encounter Bawumia and Ken Ofori-Atta in heaven, he would boldly question God.

The conversation took an intriguing turn when Sam George was probed to pinpoint the best-performing Minister under the Akufo-Addo government.

“Do you know what Ken Ofori-Atta has done? My parents are pensioners, you see the bible says that some appears in clothes like sheep but they are wolves. People work for 30 to 40 years, their savings the man gave them haircut, he didn’t cut their hair he cut off their head. Ken and his Siamese twin Bawumia have messed up the whole economy. Look I will have questions to ask God if I see them in heaven. If ken Ofori-Atta and Bawumia make it to heaven then that one he has to review the marking scheme,” he added.

To the surprise of many, he chose to abstain from naming any minister, resolutely stating that none of them had left a positive impression on him.

This audacious statement has set ablaze discussions and reactions on social media, with a multitude expressing astonishment at the unequivocal stance taken by the NDC MP.

Furthermore, it has triggered contemplation on the delicate intersection of politics and religious beliefs.

While it’s not uncommon for political figures to air strong opinions about their counterparts, associating such opinions with religious outcomes adds a distinctive layer to the ongoing discourse.

Sam George’s statement has ignited debates regarding the appropriateness of interweaving personal beliefs with political assessments.

Sam George recounts how Sister Derby visited his children’s school to ‘groom’ them, saying “its okay” to be gay

Ningo Pramprah’s Member of Parliament (MP), Sam Nartey George, has clarified his advocacy for the approval of Ghana’s proposed Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values bill, commonly known as the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, which is presently under parliamentary consideration.

He emphasised that his concern does not lie with individuals’ personal choices in their private lives.

Rather, he is troubled by efforts made by LGBTQ+ individuals and their supporters to integrate their lifestyles into the broader Ghanaian society, particularly with regard to influencing children.

“And for those saying, why is Sam George interested in this? I’m not interested in what happens in the privacy of your bedroom. It is not my business.

“It is because these same people have taken what is their private perversion and are bringing it into my children’s classroom,” he said in an interview on Starr FM on Thursday, December 14, 2023.

The lawmaker went on to narrate how Ghanaian musician Deborah Vanessa, whom he accused of being an LGBT advocate, allegedly went to the school of his child and told them that it was normal to be gay.

“North Lagoon Little Angles, they take somebody who calls themselves an influencer and a so-called social media celebrity to a school to sit with children aged 8 to 11 and tell them that it is okay for them as boys to love boys.

“Deborah Vanessa…. What she is doing is grooming. She told them this. The video was there, and they posted it on Instagram. Now the school, after the backlash, has taken the video down. Did the school seek the permission of parents for that kind of education to be given to their children?” he quizzed.

He added, “These are some of the things that are making me and my blood boil. These people think that our whole lives must be defined by what they do in their bedrooms.”.

  • Hypocrites! Where were you when Akufo-Addo refused to assent to Witchcraft bill? – Sam George quizzes Amnesty International

Hypocrites! Where were you when Akufo-Addo refused to assent to Witchcraft bill? – Sam George quizzes Amnesty International

The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has criticized Amnesty International, describing them as a bunch of hypocrites.

This reaction comes after the human rights organization announced its intention to take legal action against the Promotion of Proper Human Rights and Ghanaian Family Value Bill 2021 (anti-LGBT bill) if passed by Parliament.

Amnesty International’s Country Director, Genevieve Partington, argued for a revision of sections of the bill in an interview on Starr FM, stating that the bill, in its current state, goes against the Constitution of Ghana and should be rejected.

“It is against the 1992 Constitution so all these things we have to consider. For Amnesty International should the bill be passed we will take it to court. As we are allowed to so that is the agenda we have,” she said.

In an appearance on Starr Chat on Starr FM with Bola Ray, Sam Nettey George criticized Amnesty International, asserting that the international body cannot remain silent over President Akufo-Addo’s refusal to sign the Witchcraft Bill.

“Amnesty International they are a bunch of hypocrites. The Country Director just wants to earn her salary, Christmas is coming and she needs to earn her bonus and other stuff. Where is Amnesty International when the President has refused to assent to the Witchcraft Bill? The Witchcraft Bill takes away the Human Rights of mothers and some grandmothers in parts of this country.

“When the President refused to assent to it, it has been almost almost two weeks, have you heard Amnesty International talk about it? Have they said a word about it? So if Amnesty International is really interested in human rights why have they not called out the President for refusing to assent to the bill.”

Amnesty International’s vision is to create a world where everyone can enjoy the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights mechanisms.

To achieve this vision, its mission is to undertake research and action focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of these rights.

President Akufo-Addo has chosen not to give his approval to the Criminal Offences Amendment Bill 2023, the Wildlife Resources Management Bill 2023, and the Armed Forces Amendment Bill 2023.

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, criticized the President on November 27, 2023, for not informing Parliament of his position on the Criminal Offences Amendment Bill 2023, which aims to criminalize attacks on alleged witches.

However, a communication from the Presidency contradicted claims that the President had decided not to approve the Bills and denied receiving them until November 27, 2023.

In a letter to Parliament on Monday, December 4, President Akufo-Addo conveyed to the House that he is unable to give his approval to the three bills until the associated constitutional matters are resolved.

The letter was read to members of the House by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin. He said the president in his letter noted that “upon review he noted some constitutional matters related to its passage” that must be addressed before he assents to them.

The Criminal Offences (Amendment) Bill, 2022, which makes it an offence to accuse any person of being a witch, was passed by Parliament five months ago.

The Minority, championed by the MP for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, maintained that the failure of the President to assent to the bill constituted a constitutional breach which should not be countenanced.

Sam George wanted to join the army; this is why

Member of Parliament for the Ningo Prampram Constituency has revealed that he once wanted to join the military.

In an interview on Starr FM, he noted that he admired former President Jerry John Rawlings to the extent that he wanted to walk in his footsteps.

“Growing up, Rawlings was one of my role models, my idol. In fact, my first son (Jeremiah) was named after him, that is how much I adored the man,” he said.

He also noted that one of the factors that triggered his decisions was how Mr Rawlings was being treated at the time. Sam George said he was frustrated when the current President, Nana Akufo-Addo, who was then the Minister for Foreign Affairs, prohibited Mr. Rawlings from accessing the VIP lounge at the Kotoka International Airport and visiting military installations.

“I felt pissed off, so I said I was joining the cadet and when I finished, I was going to enlist in the army to follow Rawlings’ footsteps. I was very displeased with the way he was treated at the time. I thought it was unfair.”

He also mentioned that this informed his decision to join the cadet during his days at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and subsequently, purchased the army recruitment forms in 2005 after he graduated.

“Growing up in Nigeria,…if you live here in Ghana, you don’t understand. Rawlings is seen as a God in Nigeria, held in high esteem. Because the Nigerians had their version of Rawlings in 1979, General Idiagbon who was killed and they thought that Idiagbon was the one who was bringing discipline and started the kind of disciplinary reforms Rawlings started,” he said.

“You talk to Nigerians about Rawlings and he’s seen as a whole standard. So growing up there, it was a thing of pride. And for me to come to Ghana in 2001 when he had just left power and to see the way he was being treated, as a young boy, 17 or 18 years old, it really made my blood boil,” the Lawmaker told Host Bola Ray.

He said he was discouraged from joining the military by his mother after he bought the army recruitment forms.

“I have changed, so you won’t recognise me! – Angel Maxine claims knowing Sam George years ago in Prampram

Ghanaian transgender musician and activist Angel Maxine has launched a scathing attack on Sam George, the MP for Ningo-Prampram, over his role in pushing for the anti-gay bill in parliament.

In a video posted on her Instagram account, Angel Maxine accused Sam George of being an incompetent and hypocritical politician who has supposedly done nothing for his constituency and the youth of Ghana.

She also claimed that she knew Sam George from the past, when he used to follow former Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo-Prampram, the Late Enoch Teye Mensah around “like a puppet”.

“Yes, I have changed, so you will not recognise me. Sam George, or whatever you call yourself. Who do you think you are? (Laughs) Who the hell do you think you are? Who is Sam George? Who is that idiot, who thinks he can dictate to Ghanaians. Oh! You think I don’t know you? You think I don’t remember you? I remember those days when you used to follow E.T Mensah around like a puppet. Do you remember Apeku? King’s bar in Prampram. Apeku who is dead. Do you remember him?” she said.

Angel Maxine also criticised Sam George for his lack of achievements, his involvement in championing the anti-gay bill and his alleged failure to address the economic and social challenges facing his constituents and Ghanaians.

“You Sam George, you are all over the place like an Ashawo who just wants to be noticed. Who is that goat. Sam George, name your achievements. Name some of the things you have established in Ghana. What jobs have you created in Ghana? What jobs have you created in Ningo Prampram. Even Prampram you cannot fix it. Do you see how useless you are as a politician? What is in your name. All that ku ku ku ku ku ku ku ka ka that you Sam George you are doing, Ranting around and shouting around like a crazy dog, use that energy to save the falling economy. Use that energy to save the hardship in Ghana. Use that energy to dispose off the dirt on the streets of ningo-prampram. The seas are choking. Use that energy to clean the sea. Use that energy to fix your constituency. Sam George, you are fighting for this bill to pass because of your predecessor,” she said.

Angel Maxine also slammed Sam George and other MPs who are supporting the anti-gay bill, which seeks to criminalise various aspects of homosexuality, including its promotion, advocacy, funding, and the acts themselves. She said that the bill was a violation of human rights and a distraction from the real issues facing the country.

“Sam George, you want to do yourself like you are the hero. Save the rotten Ghanaian economy, save the economy that is falling on Ghanaians, save the economy that is drowning Ghanaians. All you politicians who are sponsoring this bill and supporting this bill, you should bow your heads in shame. Or you think I have not met gay MPs? You think I have not seen gay politicians?” she said.

Angel Maxine also threatened to expose the alleged homosexuality of some politicians, saying that she had evidence of their chats and activities. She said that she had given copies of the evidence to her lawyer, a loud influencer in Ghana and a human rights lawyer in America for safe keeping.

“All you useless old politicians, all your chats are with me. All your chats they are with me and I will expose you. I have printed everything here, these are all the politician, all the big men who are gay men. You are all here. I have given one to my lawyer, I have given one to a loud influencer in Ghana and I have given one to a human right’s lawyer in America for safe keeping. Because I will make sure that, some of you loose your seats. You said you are wicked, eh, I will show you what wickedness is. That dignity you are trying to protect today, you will lose it tomorrow,” she said.

Sam George is the MP for Ningo-Prampram and the primary sponsor of the bill. He has argued that homosexuality is not a human right but a lifestyle choice. He has also warned against foreign interference.

“Idiot, goat, useless man, crazy dog!” – Angel Maxine goes after Sam George

Angel Maxine, a Ghanaian transwoman, has taken to Instagram to issue a bold challenge to politician Sam George, known for his stance on the anti-LGBT bill.

In a video captioned “This is a Subtle WARNING ⚠️,” Maxine directed a barrage of questions and criticisms at the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Mr George, questioning his achievements and calling out other politicians in the process.

In the video, Maxine questions George’s authority, asking, “Who is Sam George? Who is that idiot, who thinks he can dictate to Ghanaians?” Maxine goes on to critique George’s political record, challenging him to name his achievements and contributions to Ghana.

Oh! You think I don’t know you? You think I don’t remember you? I remember those days when you used to follow E.T Mensah around like a puppet. Do you remember Apeku? King’s bar in Prampram. Apeku who is dead. Do you remember him?,” Angel said.

The transwoman expresses concern for the youth, highlighting issues of unemployment and the need for opportunities. Maxine accuses politicians, including George, of turning a blind eye to the struggles of the people and failing to address critical issues such as job creation and the high cost of living.

“Let me tell you something Sam George, the youth are suffering, the youth needs jobs, what opportunities have you created for the youths. People are qualified to get jobs, yet if it is not who they know, they can’t find jobs. There are so many jobless youths around. What are you doing about that situation? Before a woman finds a job, she has to sleep with her boss, to maintain a job, what are you doing about this situation. A lot of protests has gone on, with the high price of sanitary pads. What have you done about it? Tell Ghanaians. MTN is defrauding Ghanaians, what have you done about it,” he added.

Notably, Maxine takes aim at the politicians supporting the anti-LGBT bill, accusing them of hypocrisy and engaging in questionable behavior. Maxine claims to possess evidence of conversations with gay politicians and threatens to expose them if the bill is passed.

“Look at the stress Ghanians are going through, look at the high cost of living in Ghana, look at a bunch of old fools, old criminals, old thieves, following a small boy, your son to pass a bill that will affect you yourselves,”

In a direct challenge to George, Maxine dares him to pass the bill, asserting that the consequences will be severe. The transwoman vows to reveal information about politicians involved in clandestine activities, alleging that she has shared this evidence with legal professionals for safekeeping.

As tensions rise over the anti-LGBT bill, Angel Maxine’s bold challenge adds a new dimension to the debate, raising questions about the motivations behind the proposed legislation and the personal lives of those supporting it. The spotlight is now on Sam George and other politicians as they face a daring confrontation from an outspoken advocate for the transgender community.

Interior Minister must be summoned to answer for delayed payment of allowances for MPs’ bodyguards – Sam George

Ningo-Prampram MP, Samuel Nartey George, has requested that the Minister of Interior, Ambrose Dery, be summoned in Parliament to explain why government has delayed in paying the 30% allowance promised to police officers assigned to guard Members of Parliament.

According to Sam George, the delay is negatively impacting the morale of these officers.

He stated, “There is a critical issue that is affecting the morale of bodyguards assigned to MPs in the house. The issue of current mistreatment is because when the signal came for them to be transferred from their various units to the parliamentary protection unit, that signal came with a certain benefit of 30% allowance to be paid to them.”

He further added, “It appears that the majority of our police are not receiving that and is affecting the well-being of bodyguards. So if the Interior Minister can be brought to come and explain to us what that is, we will be grateful,” he said.

Sam George raised the issue during a presentation related to the upcoming week’s business in Parliament. Specifically, he addressed the matter while contributing to the presentation by the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.

  • Akufo-Addo should be dragged to court for failing to assent to ‘Witchcraft’ bill – Sam George tells Parliament

Akufo-Addo should be dragged to court for failing to assent to ‘Witchcraft’ bill – Sam George tells Parliament

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, has proposed that Parliament take legal action against President Akufo-Addo for his refusal to sign the contentious Criminal Offences Amendment Bill 2023 into law.

President Akufo-Addo recently declined to give his assent to both the Criminal Offences Amendment Bill 2023 and the Wildlife Resources Management Bill 2023.

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, criticized the President on November 27, 2023, for not communicating his stance on the Criminal Offences Amendment Bill 2023, which aims to criminalize attacks on suspected witches.

In response, the Presidency asserted that it did not receive the bills passed by Parliament until November 27, 2023, and dismissed any claims that it had decided against assenting to the Bills. But in a letter to Parliament on Monday, December 4, President Akufo-Addo communicated to the House that he was unable to assent to the bills until their associated constitutional matters were resolved.

Despite this explanation, Samuel Nartey George has suggested pursuing legal action against the President for his refusal to sign the Criminal Offences Amendment Bill 2023 into law.

During an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Sam George strongly asserted that the President is overstepping the authority of the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin. The MP emphasized that the President possesses ‘absolutely no powers’ to obstruct the passage of the bill.

Expressing dissatisfaction, the MP criticized the President for disregarding the provisions of the 1992 constitution. He strongly recommended taking legal action against the President if he does not reverse his decision to withhold assent to the bill.

“Parliament must go to the Supreme Court to seek interpretations of Article 108. The president is not the ultimate in this country when it comes to the law. The speaker has served notice that the president’s actions are unconstitutional and are a breach of the Constitution.”

He added, “I hold the view that the actions of the President are unconstitutional and even constitute grounds for impeachment. Because the President is flouting the Constitution in such a blatant manner. How can a witchcraft bill be interpreted by the President to be financial matters? And for those reasons, the President arrogates to himself powers that he doesn’t have. He’s usurping the constitutional powers of the Speaker. We can’t sit down and allow that. I believe that if the President does not rescind his decisions, Parliament must take him to court. We should take him to the Supreme Court for the court to rule. The President has absolutely no powers under Article 108.”

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, has threatened to disclose the identities of his colleagues in the House who continually work to impede the passage of the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill (commonly known as the anti-LGBTQI bill).

He made the threat while addressing the press on Wednesday after the House failed to discuss the bill, which is currently in the consideration stage.

Sam George and other sponsors of the bill were dissatisfied that the majority caucus in the House did not allow the bill to be discussed during proceedings on that Wednesday. He accused the majority caucus of defying the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin’s, order to take up the bill and address proposed corrections and amendments.

Sam George alleged that the majority caucus was employing various tactics to obstruct the bill’s passage, aiming to discredit the Speaker of Parliament, who had pledged to pass the bill before the end of 2023.

“We need to understand from the Majority side what their issues with the bill are. We need to understand with those who take the chair when the speaker gives the instruction what their opposition to the bill is. We are very well aware of people in leadership on the Majority side who are reaching out to sponsors of the bill asking us to step down the bill,” he said.

The MP claimed that the chairman of the Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, Kwame Anyimadu Antwi, deliberately stayed absent, potentially as a pretext to prevent the bill from being addressed.

He therefore threatened to name and shame MPs who have allegedly been influenced by individuals who oppose the bill. According to Sam George, he has not yet done so due to a request by some co-sponsors of the bill.

“Those who have gone and gotten influenced by persons who have interest in the LGBTQ should return whatever influence they have collected because we will fight.

“And the next time we address the media, I will mention names. I have been pressed upon by my co-sponsors not to mention names. It is out of respect that I have not mentioned names but if they continue this behaviour of frustrating the bill… How can this bill spend almost 3 years,” he said.

Already, Sam George has accused Ablekuma North MP, Sheila Bartels, of receiving funds from pro-LGBT individuals.

“After taking money from LGBTQ, and you say I shouldn’t mention her name as a pro-LGBTQ person? She went and sat on the media and said I had taken money from LGBTQ people. It took her father to come and apologize to me,” he said.

Sam George has been vocal on calls for the immediate passing of the bill that seeks to criminalize and impose severe penalties on the practice and promotion of homosexuality.

In his fight against the LGBTQ community, Sam George has been accused by Ghanaian musician Wanlov the Kubolor of being sponsored by an American organization to advocate for anti-LGBTQ+ laws in Ghana.

The Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill was laid in the house on March 30, 2023, by the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee.

I do not have a gay campaign manager; I run things myself – Sam George

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has shot down claims suggesting that he has close relations with individuals in the LGBTQ community.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate aspirant for the Ningo-Prampram Constituency, John Mantse Akwetey, has alleged that the incumbent MP, Sam Nartey George, is not being entirely honest with Ghanaians in his quest to have Parliament pass the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.

In an interview on JoyNews’ AM Show on Wednesday, November 29, monitored by The Independent Ghana, John Mantse Akwetey accused Sam George of having close affiliation with a member of the LGBTQ community.

According to Mr Mantse Akwetey, Sam George’s campaign manager is a homosexual. He referred to the residents of Prampram as the source of this information.

“When we talk about LGBTQ, I don’t want to go there. But the sort of hypocrisy Sam George exhibits is overwhelming. Ask everybody in Prampram who Sam George’s campaign manager is and his sexual orientation.

“It is an open secret in the town of Prampram. Everybody knows it. So when you see a character like Sam George, jumping from place to place,” Mr Mantse Akwetey said.

Despite being informed of the risk of defaming an individual, Mr Akwetey reiterated his allegation.

“Send your reporters to Prampram and make your own judgement. I’m sitting on live television and I’m telling you. Sam George’s hypocrisy is untold. Your personal person is a known gay in Prampram. Why don’t you deal with his first?” he stressed.

But Sam George noted that such an individual does not exist as he manages his campaign independently. Also, during an interview on JoyNews on Thursday, November 30, he said: “Yesterday I got calls about the ranting made here. I think you should have stopped him midway. But that said, he made unsubstantiated claims about individuals. You should have asked him to name names.”

“Let me say emphatically here. There is no one in Ningo-Prampram who doesn’t know me. I don’t have campaign managers. I’ve never had campaign manager in 2015 when I contested E. T. Mensah, not in 2016 when I contested Sylvester Tetteh, not in 2019 when I contested Michael Tetteh, not in 2020 when I contested Alex Martey and not in 2023. I run my campaign myself. I am my own head of security.”

He described Mr Mantse as a “liar, dishonest person who cannot bear the title Honourable”.

Mr Sam George added; “He is attacking me because he thinks it will give him some legitimacy in the NPP. He wants my attention

The Ningo-Prampram MP has noted that he is engaging his legal counsel to know the best action to take against Mr Mantse.

This is not the first time such a claim has been made, and Sam George admitted this fact.

Michael Tettey Kwetey, a former Ningo-Prampram NDC Parliamentary aspirant also made such a claim ahead of the NDC Parliamentary primaries that saw him lose to Sam George.

“In his campaign, a known gay is the chairman of his campaign. All his political meetings are held in the residence of that known gay,” he said.

Mr Kwetey also alleged that a lesbian is also a part of Sam George’s campaign team.

According to Sam George, Mr Kwetey and himself were summoned by the leadership of the NDC, where Mr Kwetey was asked to provide evidence for his claim. Sam George noted that his contender failed to do so and was directed to render an unqualified apology.

Sam George accuses US Ambassador of spreading falsehoods on Ghana’s anti-LGBT bill

On the recent caution from the US Ambassador regarding potential economic repercussions if Ghana enacts the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill (anti-LGBTQI bill), Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George, shared his perspective.

During an interview on JoyNews’ PM Express show on November 21, 2023, Sam George accused US Ambassador Virginia Palmer of misinterpreting certain provisions within Ghana’s proposed anti-LGBTQI legislation.

He suggested that the Ambassador’s statements may be based on a misunderstanding of the bill’s content.

“Virginia Palmer is within her rights to make the comments, she has made. First and foremost, I must say that the things she said about the bill are factually incorrect, they are not true. There is a difference between reading the bill and understanding it. She clearly has no understanding of the bill,” he said.

“On the economic pain, take it from me, the US is within its rights to flex its muscles but Ghana is a sovereign Nation. If you look at the total amount of aid that Ghana received in 2022 from the US, it was a $150 million. What percentage of our GDP is that again?

“If you put together a few corrupt Ghanaian politicians, they have, combined, more than a $150 million to their name – that is the total amount of aid. So, when there is the threat of aid (sic)… are we going to sell our national identity and sovereignty as a state because of a $150 million for an economy whose GDP is nearing a ($) 100 billion – that is less than 1 percent of your GDP,” he said.

The legislator from Ningo-Prampram, one of the backers of Ghana’s anti-LGBTQI bill, rejected the ambassador’s claim that Ghana’s economy would face severe consequences if the bill becomes law.
