I discovered Sarkodie’s girlfriend was schooling outside the country – Yvonne Nelson

During the debut book launch on Sunday, June 18, 2023, accomplished Ghanaian actress and movie producer Yvonne Nelson unveiled her first memoir, which bears the intriguing title “I Am Not Yvonne Nelson.” One notable aspect that has generated significant discussion revolves around her candid disclosure within the memoir that she made the difficult decision to terminate a pregnancy involving rapper Sarkodie back in 2010, following his refusal to accept responsibility for the situation.

The rapper’s immediate reaction to the news about the pregnancy according to her was an obvious heart palpitation and a faltering voice, as he rejected the pregnancy in favor of his budding career.

However, the actress reveals that she later found out that Sarkodie had a girlfriend who was studying at a university outside the country.

“I called him on the phone and said we needed to talk. He still lived with his mother, and this was not the kind of news to break in the house. I called him out of the house when I got to Tema, and we sat in my Toyota Rav4. (He drove a Toyota Matrix at the time if my memory serves me right). I sensed the intensity of his emotions when I broke the news to him. I could hear his heart pounding, and when he finally found his voice, he faltered. His message was, however, unambiguous. He didn’t want the pregnancy. That would damage him and his career. The only option was to get rid of it. Whether or not his career and the uncertainty of life were the real reasons he could not afford to let me keep the pregnancy, I cannot tell. I later discovered that he had a girlfriend who was attending a university outside the country,” she wrote.

Describing the situation as dangerously complicated, Yvonne Nelson, in Chapter 8 of her book, said she was compelled to make the hard choice of terminating the pregnancy under the circumstances.

“It was in her absence that he got involved with me, and things got dangerously complicated. Whatever it was, his stance was clear. And I was left to evaluate my own options. The first thing that hit me when he said no to keeping the pregnancy was my own life. I had grown up without a father in my life. I had often been reminded of how I had been born by mistake. I was still wondering if the man whose name I bore was my father. How was I going to bring another human being into this world to live like me, someone whose father would reject him or her as Mr. Nelson had rejected me? If there was a way to spare someone else the trauma I was contending with, why would I reject that option, especially when I was not psychologically and emotionally prepared to be a mother?” she stated.

Currently one of Ghana and Africa’s most decorated rapper, Sarkodie, who released his debut album “Makye” in 2009, had always been private about his relationship and love life until his marriage in 2018.

The rapper married his longtime girlfriend, Tracey Owusu Addo, in 2018. Tracey had lived most of her life and studied outside Ghana.

    About Yvonne Nelson’s book

“I Am Not Yvonne Nelson” is an explosive and riveting account of a young woman who sets out to discover herself but finds out that she has been living with a false identity.

The drama and the twists and turns of this moving story have all the markings of a spellbinding movie script, except that the protagonist, who is an actor, is contending with a reality that intermittently soaks her pillow with tears.

Uncharacteristic of an autobiography, the author comes to her audience stark naked. The book opens the door widely into the life of the author and exposes the good, the bad, and the ugly sides, not only of her life but also of the make-believe world of celebrities.

The launch was graced by many industry stalwarts, businessmen, and politicians, including John Dumelo, Adjetey Anang, Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, and Becca. Also present were media personalities, including Manasseh Azure Awuni and Sammy Forson.

  • I have never dated any TV personality – Sarkodie in an interview in 2015

I have never dated any TV personality – Sarkodie in an interview in 2015

In a 2015 interview, the well-known Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie shared some of his views on parenting, his cultural background, and his commitment to maintaining his privacy.

However, recent developments have sparked renewed interest in his past, particularly concerning actress Yvonne Nelson’s claims about their encounter in 2010.

Speaking with Delay, Sarkodie expressed his affection for children, stating, “I like babies, I like kids, I wish I could have a baby and the baby would never grow up and I could take care of the baby while she stays a baby.”

His heartfelt words unveiled a deep longing for fatherhood and his admiration for the joys of raising children.

When asked about his plans for having a baby, Sarkodie playfully alluded to his Ashanti heritage, humorously remarking, “I don’t plan. I am an Ashanti, we Ashantis want more. If I am to wait for my timing, I will be dead before I give birth.”

Continuing the conversation, Delay inquired about the potential mother of Sarkodie’s future child.

In response, Sarkodie firmly stated, “We can’t talk about that.”

He remained resolute in his decision to keep his personal relationships out of the public eye, a rare stance in the world of celebrity.

Emphasizing his position, Sarkodie explicitly stated, “I can say for a fact with you that I have never had anything to do with anyone on TV.”

This statement effectively dismissed any speculations regarding his involvement with individuals from the entertainment industry, highlighting his preference for cultivating relationships away from public scrutiny.

However, recent attention has been drawn to the rapper due to Yvonne Nelson’s revelations in her memoir, titled ‘I Am Not Yvonne Nelson,’ which was launched on June 18, 2023.

In a chapter titled ‘Abortion,’ Nelson disclosed a significant event from 2010, shedding light on her pregnancy by Sarkodie and his subsequent refusal to take responsibility.

This led Ms. Nelson to make the difficult decision to have an abortion.

Yvonne shared an emotional account in an excerpt from her book, describing the moment she went for a pregnancy test with her friend Karen.

The test held profound implications for Nelson, as she realized the potential life-altering consequences of the result.

Overwhelmed, she reached out to the man who impregnated her, Michael Owusu Addo, widely known as Sarkodie.

The public is now grappling with the complexities and sensitivities surrounding the rapper’s past actions and their impact on those involved.

As the story continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how Sarkodie and the individuals involved will navigate the aftermath of these revelations and address the public’s concerns.

‘All be lie’ – Shatta Wale quashes Yvonne Nelson’s claim that Sarkodie got her pregnant and rejected it

Ghanaians have been taken aback by an intriguing revelation made by actress Yvonne Nelson that Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie got her pregnant and rejected the pregnancy.

This, according to the actress happened in 2010.

The controversy sparked by Yvonne Nelson‘s revelation has stirred significant debate and garnered attention within the media and public. Both celebrities have been trending on Twitter following the revelation.

While some believe the claim, others like popular musician, Shatta Wale don’t. Shatta has voiced his skepticism regarding the matter, suggesting that it may lack substantiation or may be misrepresenting the truth.

In response to Yvonne Nelson’s recent claim that musician Sarkodie fathered her child and subsequently denied it, Shatta Wale,a prominent figure in the Ghanaian entertainment industry, has publicly refuted her allegations. Shatta Wale, known for his candid nature, has come forward to dismiss Yvonne Nelson’s assertions, challenging the credibility of her statement.

In a tweet, Shatta said: “Oh no sark can’t do that ? I don’t believe this aaaahhhh .. #Abortion like how ? Sark ? Naaaa.. He won’t even kill mosquito ..All be lie.”

However, it appears Shatta Wale was just being sarcastic with his response as his subsequent posts seem to be making a mockery of the situation.

Following Yvonne Nelson‘s chilling exposé of her past relationship with Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie, Twitter has been a hive of activity.

Parts of Yvonne Nelson’s book disclosed a point in her life when the rapper impregnated her and refused to accept responsibility, a situation that compelled her to abort the baby.

A chapter in Yvonne Nelson’s book titled ‘Abortion’, threw focuses on the development that occurred in 2010,

“I had gone for a pregnancy test to confirm what becomes the most obvious conclusion for a sexually active young woman who misses her monthly flow. I was in the company of Karen. And when the test result was ready, I wasn’t strong enough to open it. She did and declared the verdict.

“On an ordinary day, I would have laughed out loud and that would trigger a string of jolly conversations and jokes. But this was no laughing matter. It was a grim piece of information that was capable of turning my world upside down. I wasn’t the only one responsible for the situation, so I called the man whose potent seed had germinated in me. His name is Michael Owusu Addo, a renowned Ghanaian musician who is better known as Sarkodie.”

However, the issue has been received with shock and excitement as netizens have since been sharing interesting reactions to it.

Others are lambasting the actress for bringing up the issue now that Sarkodie is happily married.

Sarkodie impregnated me, refused to accept responsibility – Yvonne Nelson

Renowned Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson, has courageously revealed a vulnerable aspect of her life, recounting a past pregnancy and subsequent abortion after the popular musician she was involved with rejected the idea of fatherhood.

Among the revelations in her book ‘I Am Not Yvonne Nelson’ is her decision to terminate a pregnancy because the man who put her in that situation refused to accept responsibility on the basis that he had another girlfriend.

The man in question, according to Yvonne Nelson, was a rapper based in Tema and this incident was in 2010. In her narrative, she mentioned that the said rapper was Sarkodie, the Ghanaian musician who is now an icon and a multiple award winner.

“I had gone for a pregnancy test to confirm what becomes the most obvious conclusion for a sexually active young woman who misses her monthly flow. I was in the company of Karen. And when the test result was ready, I wasn’t strong enough to open it. She did and declared the verdict.

“Charlie, it dey there!” she exclaimed.

His name is Michael Owusu Addo, a renowned Ghanaian musician who is better known as Sarkodie.

Sarkodie was a budding musician with the potential to become one of the biggest artists in Ghana and beyond. At the time, however, the future looked uncertain, and his way through the maze of life still appeared too foggy to predict. Success was not guaranteed. He was still living with his mother and was not ready to carry a burden while he was being carried by his mother.

“I wouldn’t call what had developed between us a serious relationship. I gravitated toward people in the music industry. For the longest time in my life, music was my getaway from all the unpleasant things life threw at me. So, I liked his talent. We started talking and got close. Closer,” parts of the book read.

As captured in chapter 8 of her memoir launched on Sunday, June 18, 2023, the actress attempted to abort the baby by taking some concoctions from a colleague but to her dismay, the substance could not work as a test revealed she was still pregnant.

She took the decision to abort the baby because she is fatherless and did not expect to give birth to a child whose father had refused to accept responsibility.

“The first thing that hit me when he said no to keeping the pregnancy was my own life. I had grown up without a father in my life. I had often been reminded of how I had been borne by mistake.

“I was still wondering if the man whose name I bore was my father. How was I going to bring another human being into this world to live like me, someone whose father would reject him or her as Mr. Nelson had rejected me? If there was a way to spare someone else the trauma I was contending with, why would I reject that option, especially when I was not,” Yvonne Nelson said in her book.

She further recalled finally succeeding in aborting the pregnancy but said it is “one of the most regrettable mistakes in my life. If the clock of life could be rewound to my younger self, I would keep it.”

Comparing me to Sarkodie is baseless – Black Sherif

The winner at the just ended Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), Black Sherif, has responded to netizens who have compared him to Ghana’s most decorative rapper, Sarkodie.

Blacko in a discussion on UTV Showbiz explained that it’s unfair and meaningless for people to come to such a comparison

In his submission, he said whether or not his verse on Sarkodie‘s album, still would have broke waves adding that Sarkodie is a brand on its own and has been in the industry for over a decade hence the shallow-minded comparison makes no sense.

“My verse on the Jams album doesn’t change anything, it would’ve still been big without me.

music is spiritual and I didn’t foresee the future of the album, Sarkodie is a big artiste, he has been doing this long ago before me, and he is a veteran but I just started, the comparison is senseless”

The Konongo star swept four plaques at the just-ended VGMA including the prestigious Artiste of the Year award beating stiff competition from Piesie Esther, Stonebwoy, Joe Mettle, Sarkodie, Camidoh, KiDi, and King Promise to win the award.

“You know one thing, one woman who supported ‘Obiaa Boa’ so much is Deloris Frimpong Manso, God bless you. Thank you all so much,” he shouted.

Amerado won the title on his third nomination after losing it out to his colleagues in the previous years. When he took to the stage to deliver his acceptance speech, he named some legendary Ghanaian rappers for paving the way for him.

“Third time lucky, I have truly suffered for this title. This is for every rapper out there, your dreams are valid.

“Shout out to Okyeame Kwame for paving the way. Shout out to Sarkodie, Reggie Rockstone, Obrafour, Strongman, this is for you, Frimpong, King Palutta, every Kumasi rapper out there, I love you so much,” he said.

  • Sarkodie is a snub – Sunsum Ahuofe

Sarkodie is a snub – Sunsum Ahuofe

Popular Kumawood actor Sunsum Ahuofe has said that rapper Sarkodie is a snub.

The actor who is out with his first single studio recording song seems not happy with how rapper Sarkodie treated him some time ago at Tema.

The actor believes he was despised by Sarkodie because of his awful protruding eyes nature.

According to the actor, he had visited his footballer friend Prince Tagoe at Tema, where Sarkodie and other celebrities like Criss Waddle, Nhyiraba Kojo et al live, so he decided to visit any of these artists since he will be spending some days in their area but the multiple awards winning rapper Sarkodie made his stay short by despising him.

This is how he narrated the story to Kwadwo Boateng Coxbi on Adom FM:

“I respect everybody, though Sarkodie might be older than me but I became popular before him to behave in that manner towards me and he can’t pretend he doesn’t know me.

See, Criss Waddle isn’t my friend but he welcomed me with a great smile, and we had fun with other important conversations.

However, when I saw Sarkodie, it was a different scene. I came out of my car to his car with a wider smile but brother man frowned with a strange attitude and never responded to any of my greetings and words as if he was deaf. I was shocked because he is one of my favorites. I kept asking questions and concluded that it might be my skittish protruding eyes since people of my type are considered evil children in our society.”

He continued: From that day, I told myself I will add music to my acting career to shame Sarkodie and continue to encourage people of my likeness to come out and not feel shy about their nature.

That is why I’m out with my first song titled ‘Flexing on You”, it tells people with either emotional, financial, or special conditions to come out and happily flex,” Sunsum said.

Sunsum Ahoɔfe appealed to the general public to respect others with special conditions and not to behave like Sarkodie.

He also pleaded with listeners to stream his song which is already on most online platforms.

  • I didn’t know Sarkodie’s ‘Happy Day’ has a political agenda – Kuami Eugene

I didn’t know Sarkodie’s ‘Happy Day’ has a political agenda – Kuami Eugene

Kuami Eugene has disclosed that when rapper Sarkodie contacted him for a feature on his song “Happy Day,” he led the latter to believe that it was a song intended to thank God, only for him to learn on set that the project had political motivations.

With barely a month into the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections in Ghana, Sarkodie released ‘Happy Day’ where he indirectly endorsed President Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party with the lyric ‘Nana Toaso’.

Kuami Eugene, after the release of the viral tune, declared that he had no idea what he had gotten himself into, as it wasn’t his intention to be on a campaign song that could affect his brand.

“I had no idea that was the direction it was going to. Sarkodie will bear witness to the fact that he sent me the song with the first rap ‘It is a beautiful brand new day’. That was all I had and so I was supposed to create a hook that matches that. His idea was like giving praise to God, and so I wrote a chorus that was giving praise to God, and so I had no idea that it was going to turn into something controversial in the media,” he disclosed in an interview on the Delay Show in April 2023.

A section of Ghanaians have always maintained that Kuami played victim to escape backlash. He has however denied the claim and proven his innocence.

“It was on set when I heard the second verse, I was taken by surprise, I turned to my manager and we both laughed. It is not my conversation to have, it should be my label and Sarkodie’s label…he didn’t send me the ‘Nana Toaso’ part, I could have given him a call,” he noted.

The mother of the 2020 VGMA Artiste of the Year was among the many who felt disappointed in Kuami Eugene for allegedly getting himself into politics at the peak of his career.

“My mum phoned me and questioned why I was getting myself involved in politics because I had just started. She told me that Sarkodie had spent 10 years in the game already and I was just getting started. I told her that I had no idea.”

Sarkodie, on the other hand, has not confirmed that his popular song ‘Happy Day’ was truly an endorsement of the NPP’s presidential candidate, despite the speculations.

  • Sarkodie is not the ‘landlord’ of GH rap – Eno Barony

Sarkodie is not the ‘landlord’ of GH rap – Eno Barony

Sarkodie is not the landlord of Ghana rap, this is according to Ghanaian artist, Eno Barony.

According to her, there is no single person who owns or lords the Ghanaian rap industry.

The reason she believes that the ascription of the ‘landlord’ title to Sarkodie is a wrong move considering that other formidable rappers like herself are still around.

In her latest rap track, Eno Barony sent a daring message to Sarkodie even after quashing the Landlord’s title.

“We living on the land with no lords. No Man’s land, Nobody be landlord.”

Sarkodie has been locally hailed as the Landlord of Ghanana rap and to a large extent the one icon of the Ghanaian music industry.

In fact, Obidi is viewed as the most popular Ghanaian artist who has a wide international audience that his music appeals.

Therefore, many believe with his body of work, relevance, impact and how long he has been around, it is not far-fetched for Sarkodie to be seen and described as the Landlord of Ghana Music.

    Eno Barony disagrees.

What, many think could settle this, is for Sarkodie and Eno Barony to lock horns in a musical rap beef to ascertain who’s who.

At the Ghana Professional Boxing League at the Bukom Arena, rapper Sarkodie challenged Shatta Wale to a fight, saying that he could beat him at any time.

The viral video that captured Sarkodie’s daring Shatta has got to the attention of the dancehall musicians who have accepted the challenge with the condition that the winner of the celebrity bout is awarded 2 million dollars.

Shatta who likes to talk business also expressed confidence in knocking off Sarkodie in the ring.

He made this known in a tweet on April 25, when rapper Ypee questioned his preparedness for the challenge adding that he was going to bet on him, “1don you get match o! We go bet on you.”

Shatta Wale tweeted: “The way ago beat am erh !!! He go tink say me I born am Am down but make them put $2million as winning price… If they make ready with the money make them call me!”

Meanwhile, Sarkodie in his interview with Yaw Ampofo Ankrah announced his interest in the game. “I love boxing, and I came here to enjoy myself. Now that I have discovered this place I will be here more…If you like you can fix a fight for me against Shatta Wale.”

  • If you are careless, foreigners will dictate to you – Sarkodie

If you are careless, foreigners will dictate to you – Sarkodie

Sarkodie has criticized the Ghanaian leadership for lacking focus, resolve, and resilience.

According to him, Ghana has a lot of great minds who have proven in their own way how they can make something out of nothing with little resources and maintain it for a long period of time hence such people deserve to be empowered.

Sarkodie made these comments in response to a video analyzing why Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, was ousted from power

The said video captured thoughts shared in Nkrumah’s book, ‘Neo-Colonialism, the Last Stage of imperialism’, published in 1965 which among others, espoused that “the result of neo-colonialism is that foreign capital is used for the exploitation rather than for the development of the less developed parts of the world. Investment under neo-colonialism increases rather than decreases the gap between the rich and the poor countries of the world…”

“Neo-colonialism is based upon the principle of breaking up former large united colonial territories into a number of small non-viable States which are incapable of independent development and must rely upon the former imperial power for defence and even internal security. Their economic and financial systems are linked, as in colonial days, with those of the former colonial ruler.”

Commenting on the video, Sarkodie praised Nkrumah for his selflessness and called on current leaders to follow his example.

“Typical politicians are trained not to build anything but just to fulfill political ambitions (just win power) … About time we check the track records of the leaders we give power to. The discipline, commitment, and resilience needed in a leader cannot be overlooked.

“We have a lot of great minds in this country who have proven in their own way how they can make something out of nothing with little resources and maintain it for a long period of time. Such people deserve to be empowered.

“We can’t sit on all these resources and always sit humbly in front of other foreigners (with not that much resources) asking for help. At this point we should be talking collaborations only and still maintain ownership (100%).

“When you don’t want to be responsible, you should be fine with outsiders telling you what to do.”

Ghanaian rapper Micheal Owusu Addo known to many as Sarkodie has challenged his colleague Charles Nii Armah Mensah aka Shatta Wale to a boxing match.

The two Ghanaian superstars have a long-standing unsettled issue which even broke their friendship.

But according to Sarkodie there is a way to settle their issues once and for all and that is for him to enter into the ring with Shatta Wale for a boxing fight.

He threw out this challenge to Shatta Wale after he made an appearance at the Bukom boxing arena last Sunday to witness a bout involving some boxers.

Sarkodie was asked to share his opinion on what he had seen so far at the event in his capacity as a superstar.

Sarkodie acknowledged his joy at attending the boxing match and added that he will be coming to witness more fights going forward.

When asked about his boxing skills, Sarkodie mentioned Shatta Wale and stated they might arrange a contest to demonstrate their abilities.

We have to check track records of leaders we give power to – Sarkodie rants

Sarkodie has in a series of tweets expressed concern over Africa’s progress after sighting a video that analyzed why the West worked to oust Ghana’s first president Dr. Kwame Nkrumah out of power.

Commenting on the video, Sarkodie in his tweets sighted by GhanaWeb subtly hailed Nkrumah for his selflessness while advocating the need for current leaders to emulate.

    Below are Sarkodie’s tweets:

Some highlights of Presec-Legon’s Torch and Bonfire Night

On Friday, April 21, 2023, the Old Students’ Association of the Presby Boys’ Senior High School (PRESEC-Legon) celebrated the Ɔdadeɛ Torch and Bonfire Night.

The event was graced with celebrities like Eno Barony together with the likes of Sarkodie, King Promise, DWP Academy, Vanilla, and many others.

One of the highlights of PRESEC Legon’s bonfire and Artiste Night event was captured during Eno Barony’s performance on stage.

The Ghanaian female rapper is known for mostly recruiting energetic and thick female back-up dancers for her performances.

The case was no-different as a group of four female dancers including a thick one was seen on stage choreographing to the tunes.

In the heat of the moment, Eno Barony switched things up by allowing one of the students on stage with his body stretched out on the bare floor.

The big dancer amongst her crew suddenly moved from the back, made a split, jumped on the boy, and began to hump him.

Dressed in a short black skirt and bralette which exposed parts of her body, the woman bounced, twerked, and shook her ass on the young man severally while he laid on the floor with no movement.

Since its inception, the Torch and Bonfire Night has served as an occasion not only to reconnect with old school mates but to wind down and meet alumni from other schools.

The event forms part of a weeklong commemorative set of events for the 85th anniversary celebrations of PRESEC.

This year’s event is the first since the Covid-19 pandemic.

  • Delay lists her top 5 active celebrity fathers

Delay lists her top 5 active celebrity fathers

Television show host Deloris Frimpong Manso (Delay) has named her top five active celebrity fathers in Ghana with Kwaw Kese, Sarkodie, Reggie Rockstone, Okyeame Kwame, and Abedi Pele making the list.

In the 8th April 2023 edition of The Delay Show, she mentioned that although some celebrities flood various social media platforms with pictures of their families that suggest they are caring and responsible, it may not be a true reflection.

According to her, the five aforementioned names are fathers she has observed for a while and knows they actually are supportive and responsible.

“It’s not just about posting photographs on social media. It entails a lot,” she emitted in her introduction before listing her top five celebrity fathers.

“5th is Kwaw Kese. Beyond his ‘madness’, he’s a family man. He takes his children to school together with his wife. He’s shown he is a very responsible father who makes fatherhood attractive.

“4th is Sarkodie. He is famous but still has time for his family. Despite his busy schedule, he travels with his kids, especially his daughter, and takes good care of her. We’re proud of him,” Delay said.

She continued: “Reggie Rockstone is next. The history of Hiplife cannot be told within his input. Regardless of his level of fame, he prepares and sells waakye with his wife, and takes them to school; indeed, he is very active.

“2nd is Okyeame Kwame. I know Okyeame Kwame personally. He would take his children to school and bring them back home when they close. He assists them with assignments, is concerned about what they wear. He’s a very present father.

“Top on the list is Abedi Pele. I’d say he’s the best father in Ghana; he is my number one father. He is very hardworking. He is always there for his children even at his age. He shows up when his children are signing deals abroad. He has taken care of his children and now, the Black Stars is on their shoulders,” said Delay who was proud of the exhibition of love.

Kwaw Kese is married to Doris Nana Pokuah Kyei Baffour. They tied the knot in 2016 after his first marriage with American national, Ann, ended in 2014. The rapper has three children: Van Ewurabena Botwe, Docilla Nana Hemaa Botchwey, and Sean Sahyoun.

Sarkodie and his wife Tracy have two children – Titi and MJ. Reggie Rockstone is married to Dr. Zilla Limann, the daughter of Dr. Hilla Limann. They have a son and two daughters – Ricci, Zuzu, and Renji-Zaida.

Married to Annica Nsiah-Apau, rapper Okyeame Kwame has two children. They are Sir Kwame Nsiah Bota and Shanti Antwiwaa Nsia Apau.

Abedi Ayew Pele has four children – three sons and a daughter. They are Ibrahim Ayew, Andre Ayew, Jordan Ayew, and Imani Ayew.

  • Amerado is a lad; I didn’t respond to his diss song because he’s not on my level – Medikal

Amerado is a lad; I didn’t respond to his diss song because he’s not on my level – Medikal

Ghanaian rapper, Medikal, has opened up about why he did not respond to colleague rapper Amerado when he (Amerado) released a diss song for him in 2021.

He said he felt no need to respond because Amerado was not at his level.

“I think two years ago he ‘dissed’ me. He did a diss track for me and I didn’t  do anything to that lad. Then I felt like he had not reached my level for me to respond,” he said in an interview with TV3.

Ghana’s entertainment industry, arguably thrives on feuds (widely known as ‘beef’.) Some celebrities, especially musicians, dwell on these feuds to promote an upcoming (music) project, while others use the controversy surrounding these disputes to stay relevant.

Ghanaians for the past years have witnessed a number of  incidents where musicians hit the studios and record what they term “diss songs” targeted at a particular colleague in the industry. The other faction also responds with a diss song and the game continues till they decide it’s enough.

Amerado’s diss song to Medikal dubbed Indelible Flow

The likes of Shatta Wale, Yaa Pono, Samini, KK Fosu, Sarkodie have all had their turns recording diss tracks for colleagues. Sometimes, the feuding parties open up (though later) and confess that they planned the feuds.

However, Ghanaians were taken aback when Medikal remained silent even after Amerado, then a-not-so-old-face in the industry, mustered courage to record a diss song for Medikal.

The song, Indelible Flow, was released in 2021. Ghanaians found Medikal’s silence rather disturbing since Amerado really went hard on this song, per popular opinion.

Amerado’s diss song to Medikal dubbed Medikated Soap

But two years down the line, Medikal has revealed that he was unperturbed about neither the content of the song nor its owner, whom he referred to as a “lad.”

“We are not friends and I don’t have anything against him but then I did not respond to him because he was not my level. I’m known to be a person who speaks his mind but when it’s something that I’m not going to benefit from or get money from I’m not doing it,” he said.

Ludacris hangs out with Sarkodie in Ghana – Fans want a collabo

Ghanaian music heads are drooling over the idea of a possible collaboration between Sarkodie and US rapper and actor, Ludacris.

Ludacris is currently in Ghana reportedly working on new music.

In a video on social media, the American hip-hop artiste was seen in an apartment eating a plate of Jollof rice, a local delicacy.

The visual posted on the ‘Countryside’ crooner’s Instagram stories was captioned “Guess who linked up after 11 years @ludacris.”

In another muted footage, the duo are seen bopping to a song.

On the back of these, fans are convinced the interaction could birth new music.

Sources say the American rapper and actor is working on a project expected to feature some African musicians and producers.

  • Mojo Morgan: Sarkodie honoured Bob Marley; he did not desecrate ‘Stir It Up’

Mojo Morgan: Sarkodie honoured Bob Marley; he did not desecrate ‘Stir It Up’

A member of the legendary Morgan Heritage, Mojo, has argued that on the new version of ‘Stir It Up’, Sarkodie honoured the memory of the iconic Bob Marley.

The comment made on 3Music’s Culture Daily show, Wednesday morning, March 8, 2023, flies in the face of that of local pundits who vehemently argued that Sarkodie desecrated the said song and the legacy of Bob Marley.

“What makes it [a genre, in this instance, Reggae] sacred?” Mojo quizzed.
In a series of rhetorical questions, he underscored why artistes cross borders of genre, land and eras to collaborate.

“How do you make what’s old new again?” he first asked.

“How do we introduce [a new generation to an old genre or artiste]?” he went on.

“Like you guys grew up on our [Morgan Heritage] music. How did that happen? Because your parents were listening to it.

“I think [these types of collaborations] makes what’s old new again,” he said.

“But it also makes sure that we as the next generation don’t forget the road that was paved for us.”

He insinuated that the aforementioned commemoration and memorialisation cannot happen if younger generations are not allowed to musically and creatively interact with their predecessors.

Mojo added that younger generations of musicians pay respect to the older by way of collaborations.

“So now [imagine], say Reggae is so sacred [that] it cannot be touched or reimagined the way Sarkodie did on that song…

“It’s just a form of homage and it shouldn’t be looked at as anything else,” he pressed.

He argued that if anyone says differently, they are simply looking to stir trouble for attention.

“Anything beyond that, is just – we’re looking for a headline,” he categorically noted. “I’m sorry.”

Appearing on the interview without Gramps and Peetah, Mojo was proud to admit that the Grammy winner Morgan Heritage is famed not just for Reggae music but cross-genre fusion music.

Blakk Rasta is entitled to his opinion on ‘Stir It Up’ refix – Renner

Ghanaian fast-rising reggae dancehall musician, Renner, has stated that reggae legend Blakk Rasta, is entitled to express himself regarding the recent release of Bob Marley and Sarkodie’s Stir It Up refix.

Blakk Rasta’s reaction to the international collaboration sparked a firestorm on social media, which began a few weeks ago at an Accra-based radio station, where he stated that it was a betrayal of Bob Marley’s legacy.

Prior to this statement, she indicated in an interview on Happy 98.9FM’s Evening Drive with host Akua Sika that Blak Rasta is one she reveres and believes is a pacesetter to all reggae and dancehall musicians and therefore must be given the necessary respect as such.

“He has an opinion; everybody does; so whether he is right or wrong, he has an opinion,” she asserted, further expounding that as he voiced his opinion, people in turn voiced theirs concerning him and his dissatisfaction with the “Stir It Up” refix.

Renna believed that Blakk Rasta, being a musician and a fan of Bob Marley, had thoughts of who would fit best for the collaboration, which caused him to express himself in that manner; however, she indicated that the Marley family had equally strong opinions on who would have been the best fit for that and carried on with it. “The vocals are the property of the Marley family, so what they want to do with it is what they do with it.” “Blakk Rasta, on the other hand, being a musician and a fan of Bob Marley, would feel that the song is supposed to be treated this way,” she echoed.

“The biggest sark-native rep at the beginning before the whole sark-nation… That’s something that stands out and makes me feel like that’s a life partner,” he said.

According to the rapper, it’s easy to spot it when someone really cares for their partner, and in his case with Tracy, it’s been real love from day one.

Empty barrels! – Elikem Kumordzie slams haters

Ghanaian fashion designer, Elikem Kumodzie, has taken a swipe at his critics who have been lambasting him on social media for critiquing Sarkodie’s outfit.

Earlier, the actor in a phone-in session apologized to the rapper for critiquing his costume in a way many people termed as ‘degrading’.

But after rendering the said apology on UTV’s United Showbiz, Elikem, took to social media again to share some statements which many deemed as a justification for the things he already apologized for.

“We’ve all been at a stage where our buttons didn’t sit in the right places of our shirts and we learned our way out of it, we grew and we evolved to become one of the best in the country. Growth is very necessary and one way to also grow is to notice our mistakes and pay attention to the lessons that come with them, there’s always a lesson lurking around every adversity. So by all means, let’s evolve and move up,” one of Elikem’s posts wrote.

This development stirred fresh attacks from netizens and Elikem, however, decided to match them boot for boot.

“Empty barrels make the most noise. And they are still here, because they know the boy is blessed and they are curious to see how we still win. My life’s your entertainment, you watch it while I live it. You can still call me THE AYIGBE KANYE,” he wrote on Instagram.

Earlier, during the phone-in interview with UTV, Elikem wondered why his post about Sarkodie seemed to have generated some special kind of public interest.

“I made this post about another designer three or four years ago and nobody said nothing. Now I have done the same to Sarkodie and it’s a big deal.

“I’m guessing because it’s Sarkodie and the level of his success. I don’t know why this has become a big deal. That’s what overwhelms me,” he stressed during an interview with UTV’s United Showbiz.

2023 Grammys: Edem, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, KiDi, King Promise were officially invited – Dentaa

Ghanaian music stars Edem, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, KiDi and King Promise were all officially invited to the 2023 Grammy Awards ceremony, according to Grow, Unite, Build, Africa (GUBA) Enterprise founder Dentaa Amoateng.

The Sarkodie and King Promise failed to show up unlike their mates Edem, Stonebwoy and KiDi, however.

Speaking to Sammy Forson on Showbiz A to Z on Saturday, February 11, 2023, on Accra-based Joy FM, Dentaa explained that the five Ghanaian artistes were guests of the African Nominees Brunch.

The said brunch had been organised by her and with the express nod of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Recording Academy of the Grammy Awards, Harvey Mason Jr.

“I was like: ‘Harvey, can I get invites to some of these African artistes because there are not many Ghanaians that get the opportunity to be at the Grammys so if I am able to go, I wanna extend that to my African brothers and sisters?’,” she disclosed.

According to Dentaa, with Mason Jr’s permission, she secured three invitations for her Ghanaian fellows to attend the prestigious music awards show.

She wondered to herself which artistes had visas to be in America and, “How do you invite the right and key people? I had to think about: ‘Okay, who is in America right now?”

“I knew that Stonebwoy was in the US, KiDi was planning on going to the US, and Edem was also in the US,” the actress and businesswoman added.

“We did extend an invitation to Sarkodie [but he] wasn’t able to make it, and King Promise wasn’t able to make it [also],” Dentaa said without stating why the said acts could not honour the invitation.

“For me, I really wanted to make sure that we had a good representation at this year’s Grammy Awards,” she stressed.

She indicated that the purpose for inviting the Ghanaian acts was for them to network.

The GUBA founder’s African Nominees Brunch was held on the eve of the Grammy Awards, February 4, in California for African nominees for the 2023 Grammys. Aside the African nominees, the event had industry notables including top record label executives present.

Dentaa Amoateng, a Ghanaian-British creative arts personality, noted that the African Nominees Brunch will take place again for the 2024 Grammys. She hoped that more artistes including females would get the chance to be represented.

Popular Ghanaian fashion designer, Elikem Kumordzie has clarified why he chose to publicly criticise rapper Sarkodie over his outfit instead of doing so privately.

He stated that he refused to privately draw Sarkodie’s attention to the mistakes spotted in his outfit because the rapper is noted for not responding to messages.

He made these comments while admitting that he does not have any relationship whatsoever with the rapper.

Elikem’s statements are in reaction to the numerous attacks after he was said to have earlier shared a ridiculing post about Sarkodie.

But clarifying matters during a phone-in session on UTV’s United Showbiz, Elikem Kumordzie said:

“I have never met Sarkodie either on a professional or a friendly level. Recently a lot has been said about him concerning ignoring features and refusing to respond to messages. I just put it out there in the spur of the moment. I didn’t even think of sending him a DM.”

Blakk Rasta and broadcaster Nana Aba Anamoah have been engaged in a back-and-forth on Twitter over the former’s comment on Sarkodie’s feature with Jamaican reggae legend, Bob Marley.

Blakk on his radio show asserted that the late Bob Marley will be greatly disappointed over the remake of one of his classic love songs, ‘Stir It Up’ which features Sarkodie.

Describing Sarkodie’s rap as one-way, he said: “What Sarkodie did was nothing but a desecration of the legacy of Bob Marley…It is like a king has been buried and you go and dig him up, and steal the gold and diamonds that he’s been buried with.”

Nana Aba Anamoah was quick to point out Blakk Rasta for making bad songs, adding that he was quick to discredit Sarkodie and even try to get the attention of Bob Marley’s estate and family on all the reasons why Sark is the worst candidate for the remake of “Stir It Up.”

In her recent tweet, she shared a clip of Blakk’s song where he sang in Chinese and asked him to explain the lyrics to Ghanaians.

“Bro, on the Marley -Sark feature, I’ve said what I have to say to you. Marley’s children & his estate managers are doing what they deem fit for his legacy. Keep catching feelings,” she wrote.

Blakk Rasta in a quick clap back, wrote: “Sis, it will be awesome to have you on my show on @3fm927. I will invite @stonebwoy along to discuss Putuu as well. Maybe the @bobmarley family will help you understand the hook in Bob’s Buffalo Soldier, which goes like this: Woo yo yo Woo wo yoyo.. Full song”

‘Let’s take mental health seriously’- Bulldog reacts to Blakk Rasta’s comment

Artiste Manager, Lawrence Asiamah Hanson, better known as Bulldog has attributed Blakk Rasta’s rant on Bob Marley’s ‘Stir it up’ featuring Ghana’s rapper, Sarkodie on poor mental health state.

On his show, Reggae Musician cum Radio Presenter, Blakk Rasta mentioned that Bob Marley will be rolling in his grave over Sarkodie’s feature on his classic ‘Stir it up’ because Sarkodie’s verse on the song is a desecration of the legacy of the legendary musician.

“What Sarkodie did is just a desecration of the legacy of Bob Marley. It’s so shameful. What Sarkodie did is nothing but the desecration of the music king. It’s like a king has been buried and you go and dig him up and steal the gold and diamonds he was buried with,” Blakk Rasta explained.

Responding to this comment on the United Showbiz Show on Saturday, February 4, 2023, Bulldog dismissed the comments of Blakk Rasta and blamed his behaviour on what he described as the outcome of stress and poor mental health.

Explaining his stance, the artiste manager indicated that, like Blakk Rasta evaluated the demeanor of songstress Efya and concluded that she is on drugs, he also believes that judging from the comments, thought pattern and appearance of Blakk Rasta at the time of his rants epitomize a person under mental stress.

“Mental health is something we as Ghanaians don’t take seriously. Blakk Rasta is stressed and that is a case we don’t take seriously in Ghana, ” Bulldog said.

He added, “There’s a lot of stress, so people come from that angle when they speak. Like he made conclusions on Efya based on her appearance, look at him, clear he is stressed.”

Black Rasta wasn’t spared by Nana Aba Anamoah when she stormed Twitter with a counterattack at the former’s earlier trolls against Sarkodie.

Nana Aba, who has established a great bond with Sarkodie over the years, rose to the rapper’s defense against Blakk Rasta who has described his verse on Bob Marley’s ‘Stir It Up’ as a total desecration.

Earlier, in a barrage of rants both on social media and on his radio platform, the ‘Barack Obama’ hitmaker described the song as a total disaster.

“What Sarkodie did was nothing but a desecration of the legacy of Bob Marley. It is so shameful, what Sarkodie did is nothing but a desecration of the holy music…should I go deeper? It is like a king has been buried and you go and dig him up, and steal the gold and diamonds that he’s been buried with,” he stated during his show on 3FM

“So, Stephen Marley, Ziggy Marley, Julian Marley, and Cedella Marley, what’s this new craze of DESECRATING Bob Marley’s music with these posthumous collaborations? Would Bob have sanctioned this if he was alive today? Remember what he said about his music and Barry White’s music? Stop this!” Blakk Rasta added on Twitter.

His outbursts, however, did not augur well for some individuals, as the likes of Arnold Asamoah Baidoo, Efya and others have responded to him

But Nana Aba Anamoah who has been silent all these while stormed Twitter to serve Blakk Rasta with a strong reply.

The popular media personality, who is well-known for her command over the English language tackled the reggae musician, by building her points around three key words.

“You’re not the only human being on this planet who adores Bob Marley. You’re not wiser than the managers of his estate. This desecration placards you’re wielding makes you look rather inebriated than concerned. Sark was featured because he’s superb. DEAL WITH IT!

…and oh Blakkrasta stop hiding behind your so called claim of ‘desecration’ because it’s hogwash. Be bold enough to express your ire at the decision to feature Sark. You wanted it eh?” she wrote.

According to the Cambridge dictionary, inebriated is just a fancy way of saying an individual is ‘drunk’. It is an extreme state of intoxication or having drunk too much alcohol.

Hogwash is complete nonsense, lies, or ridiculous actions. It could also mean an unacceptable behavior (especially ludicrously false statements). This definition was by vocabulary.com

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, Ire, suggests an intense anger, often with an evident display of feeling. It could also mean an intense emotional state induced by displeasure.

You’re not wiser than the managers of Bob Marley’s estate – Nana Aba replies Blakk Rasta

Media personality, Nana Aba Anamoah has responded to a recent jibe directed at Sarkodie by radio presenter cum musician, Blakk Rasta.

The presenter, commenting on a recent collaboration between Bob Marley and the Ghanaian rapper claimed that the legendary Raggae musician would have been unhappy with Sarkodie’s contribution.

He also questioned why the managers of Marley’s estate chose Sarkodie before lambasting the rapper for giving a sub-par performance.

“You’re not the only human being on this planet who adores Bob Marley. You’re not wiser than the managers of his estate. This desecration placard you’re wielding makes you look rather inebriated than concerned. Sark was featured because he’s superb. DEAL WITH IT!” Anamoah tweeted on February 4.

She added in a followup tweet “…and oh Blakkrasta stop hiding behind your so called claim of ‘desecration’ because it’s hogwash.”

Bob Marley will be rolling in his grave over Sarkodie’s one-way rap that was placed along the lyrics of ‘Stir It up,’ Blakk Rasta intimated on his radio programme on 3FM.

“You urinate right into the grave and walk away, laughing like a madman on heat. It hurt me so much that I decided never to talk about this issue,” he said.

Blakk Rasta sided with controversial entertainment pundit, Mr Logic, who had earlier said there was nothing special about Sarkodie’s re-make of ‘Stir It Up’.

Blakk Rasta rated the new project as a disaster. He said: “The thing Mr Logic said is going to bruise some ego but I’m going to bruise more ego with what am going to say.

“What Sarkodie did was nothing but a desecration of the legacy of Bob Marley. It is so shameful, what Sarkodie did is nothing but a desecration of the holy music…should I go deeper? It is like a king has been buried and you go and dig him up, and steal the gold and diamonds that he’s been buried with.”

I am Bob Marley when it comes to rap – Sarkodie

Ghana musician, Sarkodie has equated his status in the industry when it comes to rap to that of legendary reggae artiste, Bob Marley.

According to Sarkodie who was speaking in an interview with CNN Africa, his recently released feature on Bob Marley’s ‘Stir It Up’ with the Wailers has become the biggest body of work in his career.

“Definitely one of the biggest moments in my life. It’s not easy to be on a project like that, because we’re talking about Bob Marley. You know, that’s like…crazy,” he stressed.

He explained that the way people associate reggae to Bob Marley is equivalent to how he bears the rap title in Ghana.

“People actually think Bob Marley invented reggae. Because when you think about reggae, that’s all you think about – Bob Marley. That’s the benchmark, or whatever… that the guys use. And that’s the same thing when it comes to rap with Sarkodie. Back in Ghana, every conversation, I’ve been drawn in for no reason. That’s like the person they use. That’s what I mean by in rap, I’m like Bob Marley,” he stated.

On how he felt about being contacted by the Bob Marley estate for the feature, Sarkodie said he was startled.

“I remember when the call came through, I didn’t want to believe it until they sent the vocals. You know…Bob’s vocals. We had to use like two hours to just get the files out. These are his original vocals from way back so… yes, and I did it”, he told CNN.

One of the biggest names in Ghana’s rap history, Sarkodie’s feature on ‘Stir It Up’ has received massive reactions from music lovers and critics alike.

Sarkodie deliberately ignored my phone calls for 2 years – A Plus

Social commentator Kwame A Plus, has recounted an instance where Sarkodie consistently ignored his phone calls for two years.

He made this claim when the issue of Samini’s rants was tabled for discussion during UTV’s United Showbiz.

Sarkodie and Samini have trended consistently for over a week after the latter accused the former of ignoring his requests to collaborate.

The dancehall artiste called Sarkodie out on social media for supposedly expressing reluctance to jump on the former’s projects.

However, A Plus, a panelist on United Showbiz, shared his thoughts on the subject and recalled an interesting encounter with the Sarkcess Label boss.

“Nobody knows tomorrow. You don’t owe anyone but its nice to be nice. I met Sarkodie in 2008, and I took him to Labadi. I was at Sarkodie’s house and his wife prepared yam and stew for us. It was so nice and almost tasted like my wife’s. We had a pending conversation, so I decided to call him. I have been calling him for the past two years and no response. Later, we met during an event at the under bridge and we had a conversation like nothing happened. Although I was pained, I understand that nobody owes anyone,” he stated.

    Sarkodie’s apology

Meanwhile, Sarkodie has apologized for any hard feelings he may have caused Samini.

Speaking during a discussion with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM, Sarkodie, indicated that although he does not agree with the rationale behind Samini accusations, he is sorry.

“Him feeling like that, I don’t have any control over that. I can only say sorry about how he feels. Not necessarily because I agree with everything he is saying,” Sarkodie said.
