The Black Stars captaincy transition from Andre Ayew to the next player should be managed carefully to prevent a dispute, according to sports broadcaster Dan Kwaku Yeboah.
Kwaku Yeboah gave advise based on earlier Black Stars skipper changes that went poorly and caused player breakdown and the emergence of factions.
He cautioned that if the changeover of the present Black Stars captaincy is not handled properly, it could cause a significant breach on Peace FM.
“Let’s be careful so that Dede’s captaincy transition doesn’t bring us problems,” he said.
While giving historical background to Black Stars captaincy issues he narrated: “Since 1992, every Black Stars transition brings problems. From Kwesi Appiah to Abedi Pele to CK Akonnor because Sammy Kuffour said he doesn’t like it.
“From him, we came to Stephen Appiah from there it came to John Mensah to Asamoah Gyan and it became a whole issue. From Asamoah Gyan to Dede was another controversy.”
His obvious successor is current deputy skipper, Thomas Partey who led the team to their 1-0 win over Angola in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Kumasi.
Dede Ayew who was exempted from the matchday squad for the Angola game surprisingly joined the team for warm-up and was an unused substitute.
He later pulled out from the squad ahead of the second leg due to an injury. The Ghana Football Association confirmed that Ayew hurt his knee after the Angola game following a slip down the tunnel.
Ayew, however, took part in the team’s recovery session a day after the win before pulling out of the squad ahead of the trip to Angola for the second leg.
Nana Aba Anamoah, a renowned Ghanaian broadcaster, responded brutally to a “stupid” question posed by a Twitter troll.
On Monday, April 3, 2023, Nana Aba Anamoah shared a video in which she was having a good time with Arsenal midfielder, Thomas Partey in a London restaurant.
The video which has been well received by football fans, particularly Arsenal supporters also attracted abusive remarks from some social media users.
One such troll is from a user with the name Rashyfaze who sarcastically and in Nana Aba’s words ‘stupidly’ asked “Did she get home safe?”
Nana Aba Anamoah did not let it slide as she offered an even more scathing and ferocious response to the roll.
She tweeted “Yes, I did. I always feel safe around Partey. He’s a perfect gentleman. Do you have another stupid question?”
Nana Aba Anamoah and Partey, per social media engagement, appear to be good friends, and the ace broadcaster during her visit to London decided to call on her good friend.
Partey was captured in a video with Nana Aba Anamoah in a restaurant in the United Kingdom.
All attempts by Nana Aba to have Partey say something to the camera is met with jests by the Black Stars deputy skipper.
When he finally agreed to say something, he took a swipe at Manchester’s loss to the Magpies over the weekend.
“You are welcome, join us in celebration of United’s loss,” he said as he took a spoonful of what appeared to be chocolate.

Following his absence from Ghana’s match against Angola, Thomas Partey‘s fitness is a question heading into Arsenal’s return to Premier League action the following weekend.
The 29-year-old was fully involved in Tuesday’s 1-0 victory over the same opponents in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match, but he was not needed for Monday’s 1-1 draw in Talatona.
Partey missed two Arsenal games in February due to a back injury; Ghana head coach Chris Hughton later explained that Partey was not risked because of a minor issue.
“Thomas has some small issues,” Hughton said at his post-match press conference. “We felt it was too big of a risk to start him.”
Partey, who was accompanied on Ghana duty by Arsenal physio Simon Murphy, has played in 30 of the Gunners’ 39 games this season.
Premier League leaders Arsenal are back in action on Saturday with a home match against Leeds United, before travelling to Liverpool eight days later.
⌚️ FULL-TIME: It's all over at the Estadio 11 de Novembro in Luanda.
Thomas Partey did not participate against Angola in Luanda due to precautionry measures, according to Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton.
With Andre Ayew’s absence from the team, the midfielder was supposed to lead Ghana in the away leg of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Angola.
For many Ghanaians, Hughton’s decision to omit the Arsenal midfielder from the starting lineup came as a surprise.
Partey was not enlisted and had no impact as the Black Stars rallied from a goal down to earn a point at a time when the team also appeared to need a leader on the field.
Speaking after the game, Hughton revealed the rationale behind Partey’s no show against the Palencas Negras.
“Thomas [Partey] has some small injury issues and we felt it was too big of a risk to start him,” told the media.
Partey put out arguably one of his best performances for the Black Stars in the 1-0 win over Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium on Thursday, March 24.
The draw in Luanda now means Ghana maintain their lead at the top of Group E with just a point separating them and the Central African Republic.
Black Stars captain Thomas Partey is not part of Chris Hughton’s starting eleven who are to come up against Angola in the return leg today.
Daniel Amartey will lead the Stars today as its captain.
The starting XI include Lawrence Ati Zigi, Kingsley Schindler, Gideon Mensah, Joseph Aidoo, Edmund Addo, Salis Abdul Samed, Jordan Ayew, Mohammed Kudus, Kamaldeen Sulemana and Antoine Selorm Semenyo.
Those benched include Thomas Partey, Patrick Kpozo, Nicholas Opoku, Inaki Williams, Abdul Manaf Nurudeen, Osman Bukari, Ransford Yeboah, Kamal Sowah, Joseph Wollacott, Joseph Painstil and Majeed Ashimeru.
Ghana played Angola last Thursday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. Palancas Negras lost by a goal to nil.
In order to watch theBlack Stars play Angola in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, some Kumasi football fans have vowed to throng the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Most of the supporters said they planned to show up at the stadium in large numbers to watch the in-form Ghanaian players Mohammed Kudus and Thomas Partey.
These supporters believe Kudus and Partey have both demonstrated impressive play at the club level and would like to see them repeat that effort on March 23, 2023, at Baba Yara.
“I have heard the Black Stars are in town. I will come to the stadium to watch the match. I just want to see Mohammed Kudus in action” a taxi driver when GhanaWeb visited Kumasi said.
“Kudus and Partey are the stars in the team and we have trust in them to deliver victory for us,” a phone seller stated.
Despite the poor performance of the team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar most of the fans expressed optimism in the team. They explained that the appointment of coach Chris Hughton has renewed their hope in the Black Stars.
“God willing we will come to the stadium in our numbers. No matter what when the Black Stars play in Kumasi we will come and cheer them to victory and pray for them,” one of the traders said.
The Black Stars’ match against Angola would be their first match in 2023 after the World Cup in Qatar.
The last time the team played in Kumasi back in March 2022, fans filled the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to the rafters and the fans have promised to replicate it once again.
Following a string of disappointing game performances, Thomas Partey’s future with the Black Stars has come into focus.
Partey has been criticised for his commitment to his club rather than the national team, and there have been calls for Chris Hughton to remove the midfielder from the squad.
Chris Hughton said Partey is an important team member when asked about the situation on Monday, March 20, 2023, during his unveiling.
The 29-year-old, according to him, is the link between the midfield and the defence, and he claimed that because he does not consistently score goals and provide assists, people tend to criticise him.
“Partey’s role in the team is as a continuity player…he is not that guy who is going to dribble past multiple players. His role is important to what the team does even if he doesn’t always standout.”.
He urged Ghanaians not to compare Partey’s performance for Arsenal and for the country as he plays distinct roles for both entities.
“Sometimes as football fans, we assume a player must necessarily fit the frame we have of him in an A team in a B team. Partey’s roles are both club and country are different from each other, but key.”
Chris Hughton also disclosed during his unveiling that he will pay attention to the Ghana Premier League and give selections to players who impress.
Another issue of concern was his contract and Chris Hughton disclosed that he is impressed with the two-year contract he agreed on with the FA.
The contract is expected to expire in December 2024 with Chris Hughton billed to win qualify Ghana to the 2023 AFCON and win it.
Thomas Partey, a member of Ghana’s national team, is on pace to surpass his previous season high for appearances in theEnglish Premier League.
The highly regarded midfielder transferred from Spanish La Liga team Atletico Madrid to the Gunners during the summer transfer window of 2020.
Thomas Partey made 24 Premier League appearances in his first season, making two assists but not scoring.
The aggressive midfielder went on to match his first season’s total of 24 league appearances in his second season.
Thomas Partey made an impression for the Gunners over the course of the two seasons, but injuries plagued him and forced him to miss several games.
This season, although he has suffered injuries, he has been able to stay consistent and is now on the verge of surpassing his appearances from the last two seasons.
With 27 matches played this season and more than 10 matches before the season ends, fully fit Thomas Partey looks set to set a new personal record as an Arsenal player in terms of the number of appearances in the English Premier League per season.
Rio Ferdinand, a former player for Manchester United, has noted that he wanted to bring Thomas Partey to Manchester United before the Ghanaian signed with Arsenal in the summer of 2020.
On the Vibe with FIVE podcast, the former English international acknowledged that Partey is a top player and that he holds the midfielder in high regard.
He referred to his earlier appearances on the show, in which he stated that he wanted Partey at Manchester United before Arsenal snatched him, in order to express how much he admires Partey.
“I rate Partey…I’ve done clips that before he went to Arsenal, I was saying Man United should buy Partey,” he said.
When the Partey-Casemiro debate popped up in the discussion, Ferdinand said the comparison is unfair to Partey.
“I genuinely believe he is a top player but if you keep mentioning Casemiro, I don’t think it will be fair on him.”
Thomas Partey has been in sublime form for Arsenal in the 2022/2023 season. He has been the masterstroke and held the Gunners down as they lead the English Premier League table.
Thomas Partey has struggled to translate his strong club form to the international stage, according to George Afriyie, a former vice president of the Ghana Football Association.
When Partey plays for Arsenal compared to when he represents Ghana, there is a noticeable difference in his performance.
Due to criticism over his underwhelming World Cup performance, the 29-year-old was made the scapegoat for Ghana’s early exit.
George Afriyie mentioned to 3FMin a conversation that Partey might be experiencing the same issue that Michael Essien did at one point in his career.
He explained that Partey’s starting position in Ghana’s team could be a factor because the nation has yet to establish a position for him
“It’s a combination of factors. compare him to Michael Essien. What we saw him in the Chelsea jersey cannot be compared to what we saw in the Black Stars. Essien delivered when it mattered most. I remember we played Congo in Brazzaville and Partey was pushed up front in more of a No.8 or No.10 position and he scored 3 goals,” he stated.
“Against Nigeria in Abuja, he also scored a very important goal that qualified Ghana for the World Cup. So where it matters most, he delivers,” he said.
“It depends on how a coach wants to parade his players. It depends on the set of players he brings around him. It would be very difficult to compare Partey in Arsenal to Partey in Ghana because you need to consider the materials around him at Arsenal and compare that to Ghana. So for me, it is the way we position him and the roles we assign him. Partey has always had the desire and shown commitment that he wants to play for Ghana,” he added.
Partey is likely to be in the starting team when the Black Stars host Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium on March 23. The Arsenal man could be in action again when Ghana traveled to Angola, four days later.
In 43 appearances for Ghana, Thomas Partey has scored 13 goals including the one that sealed qualificationfor the 2022 World Cup.
Ghanaian international Thomas Partey has explained that his parents have a significant influence on his life and career, much like a coach would.
Partey, who has been in excellent form this year, has made a significant contribution to Arsenal’s success in the Premier League season thus far.
Partey claims that his parents’ support, who serve as his coaches, is the key to his success.
He emphasised how important his parents have been in helping him analyse games and improve as a player on the pitch.
“Both of my parents are like a coach. They said if I have a chance to shoot, I have to shoot. They are like you have to chip this ball behind the goalkeeper. They are like a coach,” Partey told Super Sports.
The Arsenal player disclosed that he is in constant touch with his parents, thanks to technology. “They’ve learnt how to send me a lot of voice notesso I listen to them every time and I call them when I am free,” he said.
The disagreement occurs after Enzo’s masterful performance helped Chelsea defeat Leicester 3-1, while Partey, as he has been all season, made quick work of Fulham as Arsenal defeated them 3-0.
The Blues supporters argued that they would not want to talk much about their midfielder being superior to Partey because Enzo had just won the World Cup.
The Gunners supporters countered that Partey, who is more seasoned, the superior version of everything Enzo does, and whose level is significantly higher than the 22-year-old, is being disrespected by the comparison.
Enzo Fernandes joined Chelsea in the 2023 winter transfer window for a British record fee of £105m and seems to have settled in Chelsea’s system quickly.
Partey, on the other hand, is in his third season with Arsenal since joining in the summer of 2020.
The Ghanaian has been superb for League leaders Arsenal and as such has been in all arguments regarding who is the best defensive or central defensive midfielder in the Premier League.
The youthful Arsenal players have the potential to assist the team win the English Premier League, according to Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey of Arsenal.
In their most recent league match, the Gunners came from behind to defeat AFC Bournemouth 3-2, with Partey scoring one of the goals.
Reiss Nelson, a 23-year-old winger, scored the game-winning goal in the 97th minute after coming off the bench to give Arsenal the victory.
Nelson also assisted in Ben White’s goal that equalized the scoreline, after Arsenal fell behind by two goals.
Partey commended the maturity of young players like Nelson, Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, and Gabriel Martinelli after the significant victory.
He highlighted that they have the requisite maturity, experience, and readiness to accomplish everything they set their minds to, including taking home the Premier League championship.
“Well, I think now they are not younger players anymore. They have experience. They have been playing for a long time. They are mature.
“I think it is time for them to be able to achieve whatever they want to achieve. That is their dream. I think they are all ready to achieve this,” Partey said according to The Independent.
Arsenal currently sits at the top of the Premier League standingsSee the final Premier League Standings, That was predicted by a supercomputer, five points ahead of second-placed Manchester City. With the season far from over, the Gunners will be looking to maintain their lead and secure their first league title since 2003, with the help of their talented young players.
Former Manchester City and England defender Micah Richards has identified Thomas Partey of Arsenal as a possible candidate for the PFA Player of the Season award.
Partey was named by Richards as a player who might have made the cut for the BBC’s selection of six players.
Partey left Atletico Madrid for Arsenal in the summer of 2020, and he has since established himself as an important member of the Gunners.
The Ghanaian international has received recognition for his all-around skills as a defensive midfielder who can both cover for the team’s defence and participate in its attacking play.
Despite missing a number of games through injury this season, Partey’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with Richards acknowledging his potential as a player of the season contender.
In his selection process, Richards ultimately opted for two of Partey’s Arsenal teammates, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard, but noted that Partey was very close to making the cut.
“Arsenal’s Thomas Partey could have been in there, and Brentford striker Ivan Toney had a shout too. Harry Kane keeps on scoring goals for Tottenham as well. Those three were very close,” said Richards.
The PFA Player of the Season award is voted for by the players themselves and is one of the most prestigious individual accolades in English football.
Thomas Partey’s call-up to the Black Stars for the upcoming international break has some Arsenal supporters upset.
The said incensed fans advised Partey to decline the invitation and focus on improving his fitness instead because he had just recovered from an injury.
Since he recovered from a muscle injury he sustained in February 2023, the Ghanaian has played 160 minutes in four games.
Thomas Partey was selected for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations team by Ghana, which will consist of 25 players.
The Black Stars will play Angola over two legs. They will host the Black Antelopes in the first leg on March 23, 2023, before the second leg on March 27, 2023.
The Black Stars are tied at the top of Group E with Angola on four points each.
Ghana began their campaign with a 3-0 win over Madagascar before being held to a one-all draw against Central African Republic.
Arsenal’s comeback victory over Bournemouth in the English Premier League has drawn a response from Ghanaian player Thomas Partey.
On Saturday afternoon at the Emirates, Partey gave Arsenal the boost they needed to come back from two goals behind and defeat Bournemouth 3-2.
According to Partey, “this will raise the spirit of the team and of the fans to keep on supporting. This is the football that we all want to play.”
The former Atletico Madrid player credited the never-say-die attitude of his team with the comeback victory against their rival after the game.
“I think it is the spirit of never giving up,” Partey said when asked if such goals prove this Arsenal team do not know when they are beaten.
“The belief that we have in the team, the belief that the fans have in us, is pushing us game after game. I think we have deserved every win that we have had this season.
“I think it’s another game that we were able to go down and then we are able to go up and win the game.
The 29-year-old pulled one back for the Gunners five minutes after they went down 2-0, following goals from Philip Biling and Marcos Senesi for Bournemouth.
Ben White pulled parity for Arsenal with 20 minutes remaining before Reiss Nelson stole victory for the Gunners late in extra time.
Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey has paid a touching tribute to his late Black Stars colleague Christian Atsu.
Atsu died in Turkey after a devastating earthquake struck parts of the country on Monday, February 6, 2023. He was declared dead on February 18 after his body was retrieved from the rubble.
Partey scores for Arsenal and mourns Atsu
Partey, the deputy captain of the Black Stars, scored in Arsenal’s win over Bournemouth in their Premier League game on Saturday, March 4, 2023.
Thomas Partey
Partey’s goal, scored in the 62nd minute, rallied Arsenal from two goals down to win 3-2. After scoring, Partey pulled his shirt to reveal a message on the inner shirt. The message read:
With a last-second goal from Reiss Nelson, Arsenal overcame a two-goal deficit to defeat mediocre Bournemouth and keep a five-point advantage atop the Premier League standings.
Mikel Arteta’s team had to come back from a deficit because Manchester City had defeated Newcastle earlier in the day. Substitute Nelson’s stunning finish made it a thrilling 3-2 victory.
Philip Billing’s second-fastest goal in Premier League history gave the struggling Cherries, who had only won away at Nottingham Forest and Wolves this season, an early lead.
During the break, Marcos Senesi scored a header to increase their lead before the Gunners finally mounted a comeback.
Fit-again Thomas Partey got one back before Ben White’s maiden goal for Arsenal — and his first in 955 days — had them level with 20 minutes to go.
They would need all of that time, and more, as Nelson — on his first league appearance since November 12 — struck with almost the last kick of six minutes of stoppage time to break Bournemouth hearts and lift the roof off the Emirates Stadium.
The home fans had been stunned into silence earlier in the afternoon as Billing tapped home with just 9.11 seconds on the clock, turning in a Dango Ouattara cross with the home defence caught cold.
Arsenal looked to respond immediately but Neto made a fine low stop from Martin Odegaard before leaping to his feet to keep out Bukayo Saka’s effort on the rebound.
Bournemouth could have had a second as they broke at Arsenal, who were now dominating possession, former Cherries goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale making a crucial save from Ouattara.
The hosts were forced into an early change as Leandro Trossard limped off to be replaced by Emile Smith Rowe with the game seemingly set as attack against defence.
Gabriel Martinelli, moved central after Trossard’s injury, hit the outside of the post to end a frustrating first-half for the leaders, who failed to register a shot on target after Saka’s fifth-minute strike.
White was brought on for Takehiro Tomiyasu at the break as another low Odegaard shot at least tested Neto with the game falling into the same routine as the first-half.
Despite near-domination, Arteta’s men were made to pay for their poor attacking play as Bournemouth went 2-0 ahead when Senesi broke free from Partey to head home a corner.
Partey made amends soon after, tucking home from a Smith Rowe header after Bournemouth failed to deal with a corner.
Bournemouth were causing Arsenal issues every time they managed to launch an attack and Ramsdale had to be alert to save from Dominic Solanke moments after the lead had been halved.
But the Gunners were level shortly after, White finishing a centre from fellow substitute Nelson which Neto could not prevent from crossing the line.
Nelson was lively after replacing Smith Rowe with Arsenal chasing the game and, when a late corner was headed his way, he controlled the ball before finishing brilliantly to earn Arsenal the three points.
Jorginho was replaced by the 29-year-old as Arsenal defeated Newcastle to increase their lead atop the English Premier League standings.
After a shaky first half, Arsenal dominated the second half thanks in large part to another masterful performance from Partey.
Following Partey’s performance in the second half of the 4-0 victory over Everton at the Emirates, Arteta praised his tenacious performance.
“I’m really happy. It was a game that we had in hand against an opponent that we knew was going to make life really difficult for us, and we expected that at Goodison. We started the game with some frustration and not really understanding what we had to do, allowing them to run in certain transitions, but after 25 minutes I think we started to get much better and the timing of the two goals was key,” said Arteta after the game.
“We needed a magic moment there and Alex and Bukayo produced that, and then I think the team grew, especially with Thomas because Jorginho wasn’t feeling good today. When he came on he really gave us some presence and stability to the team, and I think the second half was superb,” he added.
Partey was making just his second appearance after his injury in February.
The Arsenal supporters are in a festive mood as they applaudThomas Partey for the impact he had during his 45 minutes of play in Arsenal’s 4-0 victory over Everton.
The manager of Arsenal, Mikel Arteta, substituted Partey for the Italian midfielder Jorginho in the second half.
Before he entered the game, Arsenal had a 2-0 advantage and appeared to be in complete control. The addition of the Ghanaian, however, enhanced the performance.
Partey takes charge and performs his duties with skill and steel as the Gunners stroll to a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League standings.
Thomas Partey contributed the assists for both of Arsenal’s goals in the second half.
He could have bagged two assists had Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Martinelli connected to ridiculous dinked passes.
Partey’s return to the side is good news for Mikel Arteta as the midfielder missed three of Arsenal’s last four matches.
Black Stars coach Chris Hughton will also be happy with his return as he is now in the frame for selection for Ghana’s doubleheader against Angola later this month.
Saka and Martinelli got the first-half goals for Arsenal on Wednesday night before Ordegaard and Martinelli again capped off a splendid night for Arsenal with a goal each in the second half.
Arsenal now have sixty points, five points above second-placed Manchester City, and look set to qualify for the Champions League.
Thomas Partey, a midfielder from Ghana, has been declared likely to be fitfor Arsenal’s Premier League match against Everton on March 1, 2023, according to head coach Mikel Arteta.
Partey will train with the team on Tuesday, and that will determine whether he can play against Everton, according to Mikel Arteta during the pre-game press conference.
“He hasn’t trained much. He had a session & he will train today. It is what it is. He was out for a few weeks & he needs to get back into the rhythm.”
Thomas Partey suffered an injury in the lead-up to Arsenal’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City on Wednesday, February 15, 2023.
The Black Stars midfielder went on to miss Arsenal’s next three games and returned over the weekend with a cameo performance in their 1-0 victory over Leicester on Saturday.
Thomas Partey has been integral in Arsenal’s chase for the title this season, with the Gunners yet to lose a game with him in the side.
His injury record is however a cause of concern for Arsenal who are believed to be on the market for a long-term replacement.
The Gunners were heavily linked with Brighton star, Moises Caicedo and it is believed that they will make another attempt in the summer.
Thomas Partey’s return from injury, is believed to be a bump up for Ghana’s Black Stars as the team readies for AFCON 2023 qualifiers against Angola.
The Ghanaian midfielder participated in Arsenal’s 1-0 Premier League victory over Leicester City after being substituted in.
The Gunners lost three points to the defending champions because Partey was unable to play due to an injury sustained before their match against Manchester City.
The former Atletico Madrid player did not play in Arsenal’s 4-2 victory over Aston Villa last weekend.
However, Partey came on to replace Martin Odegaard in the 82nd minute as Arsenal were leading by a goal.
The Ghanaian played 13 minutes of action in the game and brought more stability to midfield for the Gunners.
Partey nearly created a goal-scoring chance in added time when he sent a cross to Eddie Nketiah but the ball was intercepted.
His injury comeback is huge boost for the Black Stars as new coach Chris Hughton prepares ahead of next month’s AFCON 2023 qualifiers against Angola.
Partey has been a key player for Arsenal this season, making 19 appearances and scoring two goals for the Gunnersin the English Premier League.
Brazilian forward, Gabriel Martinelli scored the only goal of the match a minute into the second half with an assist from Leandro Trossard whose earlier goal was ruled out by the Video Assistant Referee.
Arsenal are currently top of the table in the Premier League.
Thomas Partey has not resumed full training since suffering a muscular injury, according to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.
Partey has been absent from Arsenal’s last three matches, during which time the Gunners have won one, drawn one, and lost one.
Partey’s ability to take part in training on February 24, 2023, will, according to Arteta, determine whether he is available for their gameday.
“Thomas hasn’t trained much but looks like he could be available.” Let’s see how he trains today.”
On February 26, 2023, Arsenal visits Leicester City as they continue their journey for the EPL championship.
The North London team has 54 points after 24 games and sits atop the Premier League standings. Thomas Partey has played in every game this season without losing.
Gary Neville thinks Arsenal has regained momentum in the title race as a result ofManchester City’s shoddy finishing and weak defence.
Pep Guardiola’s Premier League champions dropped two crucial points at Nottingham Forest three days after defeating the Gunners 3-1 at the Emirates last Wednesday, when they could only manage a 1-1 draw.
In the meantime, Mikel Arteta’s team recovered from that crushing defeat at home with a thrilling 4-2 victory at Aston Villa, propelling them back to the top of the standings.
And 48-year-old Neville, a legend of Manchester United, thinks the North Londoners will win the trophy in May.
Speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast, he said: “We’ve got an intriguing title race. Arsenal needed a good weekend. They’ve conceded 10 goals in the last six games.
“They need to stop conceding goals. One of the traits of a run-in is that if you’re conceding goals and teams feel they have a chance, it’s very difficult to win a league. They just need to watch that.
“They can go five points clear again if they win their game in hand. Thomas Partey not playing is a miss but they just need to think about getting back to clean sheets in this next period.
“But for City, they’re still giving Arsenal a big chance because they’re not playing at their best. They’re sloppy in front of goal and they still look vulnerable themselves at the back.
Gary Neville, pictured with fellow Sky Sports pundits Micah Richards and Roy Keane, is worried for Pep Guardiola’s men
“There is such a long way to go and it will twist back and forward.
“I watched the highlights of the City game against Forest and they missed chance after chance and were sloppy in front of goal.”
Neville has also questioned Guardiola’s decision to deploy playmaker Bernardo Silva as a makeshift defender.
He added: “I still can’t get my head around Silva in a left-back position.
“I think you’ll concede goals there potentially if that continues to happen and Guardiola is taking a risk if he has him there.
“When they went ahead against Arsenal and started to look comfortable was when they went to a proper back four.”
Former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer says , Thomas Partey is a key player in the Premier League title match between Arsenal and Manchester City.
After Arsenal’s victory over Aston Villa and Manchester City’s draw with Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Shearer made the remark on the BBC’s Match of the Day.
If Arsenal can get Partey back from injury, Shearer believes they have a good chance to defeat the defending champions this season.
Partey, one of the top defensive midfielders in the league, has been crucial for Arsenal this season. However, the player who makes £200,000 per week is currently injured and was not present for Arsenal’s victory over Villa.
Shearer believes that if Arsenal can keep their main players injury-free and get Partey back soon, they will have a good chance of winning the title.
“I know Partey is out injured at the minute. If Arsenal can get him back and have a little bit of luck between now and the end of the season, keeping their main big hitters free from injury, I think they will do it. Yeah.”
He has scored two goals in 18 Premier League appearances for the Gunners so far this season.
Arsenal is currently at the top of the Premier League table with 54 points from 23 matches, two points ahead of Manchester City, who have 52 points from 24 games.
Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, executive director of the Danquah Institute, saw Manchester City defeat Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the English Premier League.
On February 15, 2023, Manchester City defeated Arsenal 3-1 in their standout game of the current campaign to take the top spot in the Premier League standings.
Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko after the game met the two Ghanaians in the Arsenal squad, Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey and striker Eddie Nketiah who is yet to decide on his possible nationality switch from England to Ghana.
“Had lunch today with my good friend @Thomaspartey22 and the young man who calls me “Uncle”, @EddieNketiah9 after their training session. They are both in very high spirit and determined to see @Arsenal returning to winning ways, starting from Saturday against @AVFCOfficial,” Gabby Otchere-Darko wrote on his Twitter post with a picture of the meeting sighted by GhanaWeb.
Eddie Nketiah lasted the entire duration of the game in the defeat to Manchester City while Thomas Partey couldn’t feature because of an injury.
Manchester City are now on top of the ongoing 2022/2023 English Premier League table on goal difference as they are tied on 51 points with Arsenal having played a game more than the Gunners.
Thomas Partey will be evaluated to determine whether or not he can play in this weekend’s match against Aston Villa, according to Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta.
Thomas Partey suffered a late injury and was unable to play in Wednesday’s match between Arsenal and Manchester City.
Several Arsenal supporters claimed that the 29-year-absence old’s was to blame for their team’s loss to Manchester City at the Emirates.
Ahead of Arsenal’s game against Aston Villa on February 18, 2023, Arteta gave an update on the injured players and disclosed that the medical team have to monitor Partey to know when he will return to action.
“We have to assess him [Partey] again today, he had a little muscle discomfort & we have to see how he is. Emile [Smith Rowe] will be training today, so if he’s fine, he will be in the squad. Gabi [Jesus] is still not there,” the Arsenal coach said at the press conference ahead of the Aston Villa match.
Partey has played a key role in Arsenal’s quest to challenge for the Premier League title. The former Atletico Madrid player has played 18 out of 22 matches and scored 2 goals in the campaign.
Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey has been repeatedly disqualified from playing for Arsenal against Manchester City in the English Premier League.
2022/2023 The defending champions, Manchester City, will be the guests of the English Premier League’s leaders on Wednesday, February 15, at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners must win the match without Thomas Partey in order to maintain their league-leading position with three points separating them from Manchester City.
Arsenal haven’t lost at home with Thomas Partey in the line-up and it seems the Gunners will have to do it without their main man in midfield.
“No Thomas Partey tonight. Huge blow for Arsenal. Big night for Jorginho,” Charles Watts, Arsenal’s correspondent for goal.com tweeted.
Thomas Partey’s advance is expected to be filled by Italian international, Jorginho who joined Arsenal on the transfer deadline day in 2023 from rival club Chelsea.
Arsenal supporters are taking aim at Thomas Partey and Eddie Nketiah because they think the Ghanaians are to blame for their team’s Premier League loss to Manchester City on February 16, 2023.
Following a thigh injury that Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta believes to be preventative, Thomas Partey was forced to leave the game.
On the other hand, Eddie Nketiah was careless during the game and squandered some obvious opportunities that were offered to him.
On social media, Arsenal fans are fuming as they believe the performance would have been better had Partey been in the side. They are frustrated that the Ghanaian midfielder always seems to sustain injuries in the most serious parts of the season.
Nketiah on the other hand has been put on blast for wasting the chances that many believe a good striker should have scored.
They hold that for a team that is challenging for the title, Arsenal cannot have Eddie Nketiah missing those great opportunities.
They are praying and hoping for Gabriel Jesus’ quick return from the injury he sustained at the World Cup and speedy recovery for Thomas Partey.
Manchester City leapfrogged Arsenal to the summit of the Premier League table with 3-1 victory over the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium.
Kevin De Bruyne scored first to put Manchester City ahead but Buakayo Saka pulled parity via the spot before Grealish and Haaland pounced on mistakes by Arsenal to win the game.
City are now top of the league via goal difference with both teams having 51 points each.
Thomas Partey would miss Arsenal’s match against Manchester City, and this is a major blow to the team.
The Ghanaian has been an essential member of the Gunners team that has dominated the Premier League standings for the majority of the season.
Mikel Arteta will have to get by without him on Wednesday night even though he has played in all but three of their league games this season.
Partey won’t be playing against City because of a muscular issue, according to The Athletic.
The 29-year-old took part in Tuesday’s training session with his teammates, but a new injury prevents him from playing on Wednesday night at the Emirates Stadium.
Additionally, he might not play in Saturday’s matchup with Aston Villa.
These developments might herald Jorginho’s first start for the team since his January transfer from Chelsea.
With so much on the line, Partey’s absence may be a major setback for the Gunners.
Thomas Partey will get an MRI after being forced to leave the Manchester City game due to injury, according to Mikel Arteta.
On Friday, the midfielder started the FA Cup match between the Etihad Stadium and was replaced in the middle of the field by Albert Sambi Lokonga at halftime.
Nathan Ake scored the only goal of the game as Manchester City edged past Arsenal 1-0 in a closely-fought FA Cup fourth-round battle at the Etihad Stadium.
Partey has been an integral part of an Arsenal team that leads the Premier League standings by five points, but he has a history of injury problems, and his most recent setback may mean doom for the Gunners. Ahead of the game against City Ray Parlour suggested Arteta rest Partey.
“He had some discomfort and it was getting worse and worse,” Arteta said after the game.
“He was uncomfortable to continue. (Saturday) or the day after he will have an MRI scan and see what he has,”
“We have at the moment the injury of Mo (Elneny). It is not possible to get him fit. Sambi has come in and has done well. It is true Thomas is a big influence and a big personality and in the second half we didn’t have him,”
Former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand says Casemiro is an intelligent and a better player than Thomas Partey when the two midfielders are compared.
Both players have been pivotal for their respective clubs in the ongoing Premier League season.
The aforementioned midfielders faced each other several times in the Madrid derby in Spain, when Partey played for Atletico Madrid and Casemiro lined up for Real Madrid.
Partey, who is Ghana’s deputy captain is expected to feature against Manchester United on Sunday at the Emirates as Arsenal hope to continue their fine run with Casemiro expected to sit out due to suspension.
Ferdinand acknowledged the importance of both players to their teams but said Casemiro is on another level.
“I think the importance to their teams…you could argue both sides quite equally. But then, when you through the stats in Casemiro wipes him away,” the former Manchester United defender said on his podcast, as quoted by the Daily Mail.
“No, no no. I don’t think Partey is good enough defensively to do what Casemiro is doing, I don’t think he has the impact defensively for Man United, on the ball he’s doing more.”
“On the ball, he’s [Partey] doing more. He’s dictating play for Arsenal. He’s actually playing passes I didn’t know he had. His passing has been unbelievable.”
Arsenal are currently eight points above Manchester United on the Premier League table and could further extend their lead at the top if they beat the Red Devils this weekend.
Former Scottish footballer, Craig Burley has passed a vote of confidence in Ghana’s Thomas Partey as the best midfielder in the Premier League.
The ESPN reporter is one of many football fans who were awed by the sheer class of Thomas Partey in the North London derby.
In a post via his Twitter handle, Craig Burley wondered if the league had a better midfielder than the 29-year-old Arsenal midfielder.
“Is there a better midfielder in the PL than Thomas Partey right now? Not for me. He’s been on fire”, he tweeted.
His tweet attracted replies from some fans who mentioned Brighton’s Caicedo and Casemiro of Manchester United but Burley insisted that much as the two players have been standout performers for their respective clubs, Thomas Partey has been head and shoulders above every other midfielder in the league.
Partey’s name was once again on the lips of Arsenal fans as he engineered their 2-0 victory over rival Tottenham Hotspur.
The Ghanaian midfielder was involved in all their goals providing the passes that led to the final pass before the goal.
In the first goal, Partey found winger Bukayo Saka with a tailored dink before the English player of Nigerian descent hit in the cross for Spur goalie Hugo Lloris to palm into his own net.
Partey once again found Saka who connected with skipper Martin Odegaard for the Norwegian to release a long drive that got Arsenal their second and final goal of the night.
His stats at the end of the game on Sunday, January 15, 2022, read; 87 touches, 66/72 passes completed, 14 passes into the final third, 8 ball recoveries, 4/5 long passes completed, 4/5 ground duels won, 2 blocks, 2 tackles won, 1 shot off the woodwork.
There will be a showdown between Partey and Casemiro when Arsenal clash with Manchester United in a Premier League fixture on Sunday, January 22, 2023 at the Emirates.
Former Black Stars head coach, Kwesi Appiah, has explained the positioning problem that caused Thomas Partey to struggle at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The ex-Black Stars defender explained that, unlike Arsenal, Partey is limited at Black Stars by playing in offensive areas.
He further noted that Arsenal have the best out of the Ghanaian because they use him as a defensive midfielder.
“I would like to use this World Cup. If you look at Arsenal, they use him more like a defensive midfielder, always he plays in front of the defenders. But here we use him as an offensive midfielder who operates on the right side. That means he is enclosed in a small area with the number 10 but at Arsenal, he can move all over the place.”
Thomas Partey, who was having an impressive run at Arsenal before the World Cup, was underwhelming for the Black Stars at the tournament.
The 29-year-old suffered a backlash from Ghanaians as some questioned his commitment to the national team.

Arsenal fans on social media have hailed Eddie Nketiah and Thomas Partey for their display in the team’s 3-1 victory over West Ham.
Eddie Nketiah was among the goal-scorers as Arsenal came from a goal down to beat West Ham 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium.
In their first game since the 2022 World Cup, the Gunners went down after defender William Saliba brought down West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen in the penalty box.
Arsenal went into the break with a goal deficit despite dominating the game and creating chances.
The comeback started in the second half after Bukayo Saka connected to Martin Ordegaard’s shot to pull parity.
Brazilian winger Gabriel Martinelli shot Arsenal into the lead with a goal at the near post before Nketiah gave Arsenal the needed cushioning with an incredible finish.
His performance has impressed Arsenal fans who are hailing him for stepping up after the club lost Gabriel Jesus to injuries.
Eddie Nketiah’s goal has given Arsenal fans assurance that the speculated two months without Gabriel Jesus will not be as bad as feared.
While Nketiah was leading the line, Thomas Partey was making the team tick in midfield with his incredible passing abilities.
In 88 minutes played, Partey recorded 104 touches, 77 passes completed, 12 final third passes, nine ball recoveries, 4 long balls completed, 4 ground duels won, 2/2 aerial duels won and 2 fouls won.
The Ghanaian midfielder bossed the game and the fans have been singing his praise on social media.

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has welcomed Ghana international Thomas Partey back into his squad.
The Black Stars midfielder joined his Gunners teammates in Dubai last week after Ghana exited the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
On Tuesday, Thomas Partey played 45 minutes and helped Arsenal to beat AC Milan in the Dubai Super Cup.
Speaking after the game, Mikel Arteta disclosed that Thomas Partey is disappointed Ghana could not go far in the tournament.
The Arsenal manager also said he is happy that after resting for a few days, Thomas Partey has rejoined his squad.
“He played a lot and he was disappointed by the way he had to leave the World Cup but it happens to every nation that they are out.
“It takes a few days to reset and to focus on the team.
“The good thing we have is that everybody has been showing that they are desperate to get back as quick as possible. It was really good to have those two back today playing some minutes,” Mikel Arteta said.
Thomas Partey is expected to be in action for Arsenal on Saturday when the side takes on Juventus in another friendly match.

Thomas Partey is back training with his Arsenal teammates after joining the side in Dubai.
The highly-rated midfielder was one of the 26 players selected by former Black Stars head coach Otto Addo for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
At the tournament being staged in Qatar, Thomas Partey featured in all Group H matches of Ghana.
While he would impress in the match against South Korea, many Ghanaians thought his display in the other games against Portugal and Uruguay was poor.
With Ghana failing to advance to the knockout stage of the World Cup, Thomas Partey subsequently flew to Dubai where Arsenal are having a mid-season training camp because of the suspension of the English Premier League.
While his club will give him a few days to rest, Thomas Partey has today started training with his Arsenal teammates.
The midfielder will be taking part in Arsenal’s friendly match next week as the side prepares for the resumption of the English Premier League later this month.
Following a 2-0 loss against Uruguay, the Black Stars fell out of the tournament after the first round.
The Black Stars needed a draw or win against Uruguay after defeating South Korea in their last group match to go to the round of 16.
However, the team was unable to come to an agreement with Uruguay, its so-called “enemy.”
Ghana made a strong start to the game, but fell apart after captain Andre Ayew missed a penalty in the 21st minute, a repeat of what happened in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
The Arsenal midfielder has been criticized by fans for his underwhelming performances for the Black Stars at the World Cup.
Partey was tipped for greatness at the mundial but the 29-year-old failed to glitter as Ghana suffer elimination from the tournament after defeat to Uruguay.
Speaking to 3Sports, the former Inter and AC Milan star urged Ghanaians not to criticized Partey, saying he should rather be encouraged.
“Partey for me is excellent, he is superb and a world class player, you can’t take that away from him,” he told 3 Sports.
“He is so intelligent in midfield and he is very elegant. When he plays he is a joy to watch.
“With the national team, I sit up there and I always think, I see Partey plays and sometimes it’s like I don’t see him around the team like in the last two games. But if Partey switched for like 25% of his strength, his mind and his intelligence and the way he knows how to play, the Black Stars will be crazy massive,” he added.
“For me, you can’t criticize him, I won’t and I don’t want anybody should, let give him his time, let just leave him and he will just switch play and one day he will excel”
The Arsenal midfielder has been criticized by fans for his underwhelming performances for the Black Stars at the World Cup.
Partey was Ghana’s key player going into the tournament in Qatar, but the 29-year-old failed to meet the expectations of fans.
Muntari, who played 84 times for Ghana, praised Partey’s ability but insists the former Atletico Madrid player can offer more for the Black Stars.

Midfielder Thomas Partey took time to meet Luis Suarez after the December 2, 2022 World Cup match between Ghana and Uruguay at the Al Janoub Stadium in Qatar.
Partey was on the losing side whiles Suarez captained the Uruguayan side to their first victory at the tournament having drawn with South Korea and lost to Portugal.
Partey was seen in a viral photo exchanging shirts with Suarez, the two are related by their association with Spanish club side Atletico Madrid.
Suarez joined in 2020 at the same time that the Ghanaian midfielder moved to England to join Arsenal.
The verdict on Twitter over the shirt swap was critique, with the word ‘traitor’ taking being prominent. Those angry at the move say Partey could have swapped the shirts away from public view.
But for others, it was no big deal for players to swap shirts once the game is over.
Ghana ended bottom of Group H with Portugal topping whiles South Korea finsihed second ahead of Uruguay on goal difference – both teams finished with four points apiece.
The Black Stars recorded three points from three games – losing to Portugal and Uruguay and beating South Korea. They scored five goals and conceded seven.
Coach Otto Addo has resigned his position in the post-match press conference.
The Black Stars of Ghana had one task going into their final Group H fixture at the 2022 World Cup.
Win at all costs, worse case draw against Uruguay and secure passage into the Round-of-16 stage of the competition.
The match was, however, settled with three major incidents in the first half. A penalty miss by Black Stars skipper Andre Dede Ayew, when the score was goalless.
Then Giorgian de Arrascaeta’s two goals for Uruguay which came in quick sucession, consigned the Black Stars to a second World Cup defeat against the South Americans who broke hearts of Africans in 2010.
Their 2 – 0 victory over the Black Stars was, however, not enough to get them through to the next round of the tournament as South Korea beat Portugal 2-1.
With Uruguay in dire need of a third goal to progress to the next round of the World Cup, Suarez was reduced to tears as efforts to score another goal proved futile.
Portugal and South Korea advanced from Group H as Uruguay and Ghana exited the tournament after finished 3rd and 4th respectively.
While Suarez led the Uruguayan team to their first victory at the tournament after they drew with South Korea and lost to Portugal, Partey was on the losing team.
