  • World Cup 2022: Partey, Kudus to return to Black Stars starting XI for Portugal game

Thomas Partey and Mohammed Kudus are set to named in Ghana’s starting XI to face Portugal in their 2022 World Cup opener today.

The duo missed Black Stars’ friendly win over Switzerland for various reasons, however, they are expected to named in coach Otto Addo’s line-up.

Kudus has been in fine form for Ajax this season, primarily playing as a false nine. He has scored 10 goals and provided two assists in 21 appearances.

Partey on the other hand, has been a key cog of Mikel Arteta’s side this season, making 15 appearances and scoring two goals in the process.

Black Stars will begin their campaign against Portugal on Thursday before taking on South Korea and Uruguay in the other Group H matches.

Ghana are making a record 4th World Cup appearance in Qatar having previously played in the 2006, 2010 and 2014 in Germany, South Africa and Brazil respectively.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup takes place between November 20 and December 18, 2022.

Only three sides from the continent have ever progressed to the quarter-finals; Cameroon in 1990, Senegal in 2002, and Ghana in 2010.

Ghana will be hoping to progress from the group stage at this year’s tournament.

Black Stars exited the group stage at the 2014 edition in Brazil after a slow start to the tournament.

  • We have the quality to match Portugal – Otto Addo

Otto Addo, the head coach of the Black Stars, has claimed that his squad have the necessary skills to compete with Portugal in Group H’s opening match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The German-trained player stated the Black Stars will need to be brave against the Portuguese team despite their quality during a press conference prior to the game.

“We are capable of competing with them. We must undoubtedly exercise great bravery, he said.

Portugal’s head coach, Fernando Santos, named a start-stuttering side consisting of Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Pepe, Joao Cancelo, Rafael Leo, Joao Felix, and a host of other big names for the tournament.

Meanwhile, Ghana will count on a few big names including Thomas Partey, Kudus Mohammed, Inaki Williams, Andre Ayew, and Jordan Ayew to make things tick for them.

Ghana will come off against Portugal on Thursday, November 24, 2022, at Stadium 974 (Rass Abou Aboud).

  • Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey in full swing ahead of 2022 World Cup

For longer than many Arsenal supporters will care to remember, the Gunners have stood excused of lacking the stomach for a fight.

Doubters have insinuated that a soft core has held the north London outfit back, with suitable heirs to the likes of Patrick Vieira and Gilberto Silva in short supply.

Having apparently failed to address those issues, with greater emphasis placed on guile over graft, positive

progress to the level demanded by an expectant fan base has proved difficult to come by. Ticking those boxes was, however, always going to be easier said than done.

    FLYING

It may have taken a while to find the right formula, but Mikel Arteta appears to have stumbled upon it. A flying start to the 2022-23 campaign – with record books being rewritten at Emirates Stadium – carried Arsenal to the top of the Premier League table and to a price of 9/2 for title glory in football betting odds.

Such a standing is not achieved by chance, with a perfect blend of substance and style needing to be found. The Gunners have that once again, with those in the middle of the park very much leading by example.

Granit Xhaka has been a revelation, completing the most unexpected transformation from villain to hero, but it is Thomas Partey who has become a throwback figure to the heady days of domestic crowns and invincible exploits during the reign of Arsene Wenger.

Comparing him to talismanic figures from a Highbury heyday may do nobody any favours, with former Arsenal defender Lauren once saying: “We have to look forward and back Thomas Partey for who he is, he’s a different player in a different squad. We cannot compare Partey with Vieira or Gilberto Silva because it’s not the right way to look at things.”

It is, however, difficult not to get caught up in the hype at times and to allow collective minds to drift between exploits of the past and present. There are certainly plenty of similarities to be drawn between a Ghanaian enforcer and iconic World Cup winners from France and Brazil that once occupied the same engine room.

Partey has become a key component in a well-oiled Arsenal machine, to the point that keeping him fit and firing is imperative. Unfortunately, that has been an issue at times, with a commanding presence sitting out 33 games across his first two seasons in England and another five early in the current campaign.

    RECHARGE

He is clearly somebody who needs to be handled with care and wrapped in cotton wool whenever Arteta gets the chance. With that in mind, a winter World Cup could be considered to have arrived at the worst possible time – with there plenty of arguments to be made against the staging of a major international tournament in the middle of any given season.

Those not heading to Qatar will savour a rare opportunity to rest and recuperate, allowing batteries to be recharged at a time when they can start to run a little flat. Arsenal would have liked to stick an all-action midfielder on that particular dock for a few weeks, but the Gunners are now hoping that their Partey will remain in full swing once he returns from international duty in the Middle East.

  • Watch highlights of Partey’s top-class performance in Arsenal’s victory over Chelsea

Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey received acclaim from Arsenal supporters on social media for his great performance against Chelsea in their November 6 match at Stamford Bridge.

Partey directed the Gunners’ performance and controlled the midfield as they defeated their London rivals 1-0 on the road.

The Ghanaian is now regarded by Arsenal supporters as the best central defensive midfielder in the League.

Others were astounded by Partey’s performance and praised his passing, ball control, and ball retention.

Partey received 75 touches, completed 52 of 56 passes that were attempted, made all six of his long balls, won five of six ground battles, and made 13 recoveries.

  • How Ghanaians reacted to Thomas Partey’s performance against Chelsea with 13 days to start World Cup

Black Stars midfielder, Thomas Partey, was on top of his game when Arsenal beat rivals Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge on matchday 13 of the ongoing 2022/2023 English Premier League.

Thomas Partey started and lasted the entire duration of his side’s narrow win over the Blues at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, November 6, 2022.

Gabriel Magalhaes’ close-range finish in the 63rd minute ensured Arsenal secured all points at stake at away in the English Premier League to keep their momentum of winning the title.

Partey completed the most passes and tackles in the game thus outshining the likes of Jorginho and Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the midfield.

The performance of Partey was too glaring to ignore and that excited Ghanaians on social media as they were happy that the Black Stars deputy captain has peaked in time for the World Cup.

The fans voted Thomas Partey as the best player on the day but William Saliba was voted as the Man of the Match by the technical committee.

He collected his brace in the 53rd minute after Arsenal broke through. Partey scored the fourth for the dominant Gunners in the 57th minute before captain Martin Odegaard added the fifth in the 78th minute.

Arteta will be hoping to keep Partey off the sidelines as he has struggled with injuries since moving to the Emirates.

Partey has made 12 appearances and scored two goals across all competitions for Arsenal this season.

He is expected named in Ghana’s squad for the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

With lavish progressive passes that cut Forest loose and rendered their defensive structure useless as the Gunners pounded them 5-0, Partey masterminded an Arsenal carnage at the Emirate Stadium.

In addition to the astounding display, Partey scored a stunning curler from outside the box, bending the ball from a Reiss Nelson setup to the top corner.

  • Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey features as Arsenal lose to PSV in Europa League

Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey was in action for Arsenal in their 2-0 defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday evening.

Partey climbed off the bench to replace Albert Sambi Lokonga in the 56th minute as the Gunners missed a chance to seal top spot in Group A.

After a goalless first-half, Joey Veerman opened the scoring for PSV from 16 yards and a header by substitute Luuk de Jong after a mistake by keeper Aaron Ramsdale on his European debut saw Mikel Arteta’s side lose in Europe for the first time this season.

PSV also had three goals ruled out for offside as Arsenal were well beaten.

Mikel Arteta’s side need to beat Zurich in their final group game next Thursday at Emirates Stadium to guarantee a place in the last 16.

If they fail to win and PSV beat Bodo/Glimt in Norway, Arsenal will face two extra games in the knockout round playoffs, where teams that finish third in the Champions League group stage, including Barcelona, drop into.

Partey has made 11 appearances for Arsenal across all competitions and scored one goal in the process.

Arsenal host Nottingham Forest on Sunday as they aim to get back to winning ways in the Premier League on Sunday.

  • Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand wades into Thomas Partey-Casemiro comparison

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has opened up on the comparison between Casemiro and Thomas Partey comparisons.

The Ghana international is enjoying an amazing season with Arsenal, who are battling for the English Premier League title.

Partey scored his first goal of the season early this month in the north London derby, an absolute stunner in Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Tottenham.

Casemiro, on the other hand, made his first league start on October 10 against Everton, and has since started the last two games, scoring an injury-time equalizer for Manchester United in the weekend’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

Reacting to the comparison, the former England international said, “How do you prove yourself with cameos of minimal minutes here and there but also, why should he have to prove himself?” Ferdinand told Vibe with Five.

“You’re not coming into Man City. You’re not coming to Bayern Munich. You’re coming into a team that needs to improve. You’re bringing in someone for £70million, probably £100m overall package minimum, who won the Champions League a couple of months ago and saying, ‘prove yourself to get in this team.’

“It’s not the Man Utd of old. It’s Europa League Man Utd. He isn’t 18 years old. If Casemiro comes through, the door has to be opened. Welcome him in and play because we know what you’re bringing.”

He was then pressed on a comparison with Partey and said: “Partey is a really good player. He’s been really good. He’s not the right player to play holding midfielder for Man Utd. We’re talking about a player with many rungs up, many rungs.

“It’s like saying before we had Fred and McTominay in the CDM position, would you not have taken Partey? Well, yes, I would have, but what does that prove? All I’m saying is we’re talking about Casemiro against Partey, and it’s not a competition.”

  • Thomas Partey resorts to placenta healing to halt recurring injuries

Medical expert  Ben Dinnery has explained placenta healing which has been adopted by Thomas Partey.

The Ghana midfielder has battled with injuries this season and was recently sent home from Ghana’s national team camp in the friendlies against Brazil and Nicaragua.

The 29-year-old was billed to start in Ghana’s game against Brazil but was left out of the squad due to a precaution.

The former Atletico Madrid midfielder is currently to be relying on placenta treatment to tackle his recurring injuries situations.

Ben Dinnery in an interview with Football Insider has explained the pros and cons of the left-field treatment method.

“This involves electrical impulse therapy and the massaging of placenta fluid into the joint.

“What we know about the placenta is that is high in amino acids, vitamins, and nutrients. It can help with pain reduction and tissue generation, and it has anti-inflammatory properties.

“The theory behind why you would use this treatment is there. What isn’t plain for all to see, however, is the research to back up the effectiveness of this treatment.

“That is down to several reasons. You have to consider how the treatment is administered, different regimes, and different treatment plans. There is just a lack of consistency to categorically conclude the effectiveness of this treatment.

“However, it’s a safe procedure. There are no red flags in terms of this treatment plan. There are signs that it can help orthopedic injuries, so the joint in the knee.

“So, for a relatively low downside, there is a potential for there to be some kind of benefits. It is safe and when all other avenues have been exhausted and you want to give it a go, why not.“

Ghana is set to hire placenta healer Mariana Kovacevic to help Thomas Partey ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Arsenal star is one of the key players for the Black Stars going into the competition.

  • Thomas Partey’s role highlighted in Arsenal’s win over Liverpool

Partey lasted the entire duration of the game as he helped the Gunners seal all three points and remain in the lead with eight wins from their first nine fixtures.

Gabriel Martinelli opened the scoring for Arsenal in the first minute and Bukayo Saka followed with a brace to sink Liverpool to their second Premier League defeat of the season and into 10th place in the table.

Pundit Jamie Redknapp was quick to highlight Partey as Arsenal’s unsung hero this season, despite doubts over his fitness.

He told Sky Sports, “I think people like Thomas Partey today. His involvement, the way that he controlled that midfield, he is brilliant at that job. Can they keep him fit?”

Partey, who has been one of the key cog of Mikel Arteta’s side has made six league appearances and scored one goal for Arsenal so far this season.

  • Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp lauds Thomas Partey ahead of Arsenal clash

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has showed praises on Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey ahead of their Premier League match week nine encounter at the Emirates stadium on Sunday.

The Ghanaian midfielder scored his first goal of the season for Arsenal in their 3-1 win over Tottenham in north London derby at home last Saturday.

Partey, who has missed four games due to injury this season, including his side’s only defeat of the campaign so far at Old Trafford against Manchester United has made five appearances and scored one goal for Arsenal across all competitions this season.

“He’s brought Xhaka back on track, everyone knew how Thomas Partey was when he was at Atletico, and now they’ve found a way how they want to defend,” Klopp said as quoted by SkySports.

“They played a different line-up on Thursday but still with lots of quality; it’s a young team, a very exciting team and doing very well, which is well-deserved.”

  • Ex-Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit calls on club to get backup for Thomas Partey in January

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has urged the club to sign a backup for Thomas Partey in the upcoming winter transfer window.

Partey has already missed four games due to injury this season, including his side’s only defeat of the campaign so far at Old Trafford against Manchester United.

The Ghanaian midfielder scored his first goal of the season for Arsenal in their 3-1 win over Tottenham in north London derby at the Emirates stadium last Saturday.

“I’ve been very impressed by Grant [Xhaka] and Partey this season, they bossed the midfield against Spurs. But they can’t do it on their own,” Emmanuel Petit told Compare.bet.

“Especially if there are injuries. Arsenal need another holding midfielder. I’m not convinced by the other options, like Elneny. In the next transfer window, they should definitely be active in looking for another midfielder.”

Partey has made five appearances and scored one goal for Arsenal across all competitions this season.

  • Top 10 highest-rated Ghanaian players on FIFA 23

The 10 top highest-rated Ghanaian players has been revealed in the newly-released FIFA 23 video game.

Former Chelsea midfielder, Michael Essien is rating of 87 in the game, with Arsenal star Thomas Partey in second place with a rating of 84.

Inaki Williams (81) is the third highest-rated player in the game and Mohammed Kudus is further down in ninth with a rating of 76.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s Black Stars are one of the new national teams added to EA Sports’ FIFA 23 game.

The Black Stars are part of 16 new national teams confirmed to be part of the game’s World Cup mode feature.

The World Cup mode allows gamers to pick teams that have qualified for the Qatar 2022 World Cup as playable nations.

Other African nations that have also been added to the FIFA 23 game are Cameroon, Morocco, Senegal and Tunisia, with Nigeria conspicuously missing.

This is probably because the Super Eagles failed to secure a place at the World Cup after losing to Ghana in the playoffs.

Here are the top 10 highest-rated Ghanaian players on FIFA 23:

    1. Michael Essien – 87

    2. Thomas Partey – 84

    3. Inaki Williams – 81

    4. Joseph Aidoo – 78

    5. Alexander Djiku – 77

    6. Mohammed Salisu – 77

    7. Frank Acheampong – 76

    8. Jeffrey Schlupp – 76

    9. Mohammed Kudus – 76

    10. Daniel Amartey – 76

  • Partey makes Alan Shearer’s Team of the Week

Thomas Partey has made the Premier League Team Of The Week of former England skipper, Alan Shearer.

Partey was named along with three other Arsenal players after a strong performance in their 3 – 1 win over the weekend against North London rivals, Tottenham Hotspurs.

The Black Stars deputy skipper made Shearer’s midfield along with teammate, Granit Xhaka, Phil Foden of Manchester City and Maddison of Leicester City.

Shearer’s defence had two Arsenal players, White and Saliba along with Coady.

Pickford in goal and a three forward of Almiron (Newcastle United), Erling Haaland (Manchester City) and Trossard completed the 1 – 3 – 4 – 3 formation by the English Premier League great turned pundit.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was also picked as coach of Week

  • Thomas Partey is playing an unheralded role in Granit Xhaka’s success at Arsenal

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka hit his lowest point for the Gunners nearly three years ago when he was stripped of his captaincy and left out of his side’s Europa League squad for their clash against Portugal’s Vitoria.

The decision by then manager Unai Emery came in response to controversy stemming from Xhaka’s angry reaction to being booed by fans after being substituted in a home draw against Crystal Palace.

During the indecent, a frustrated Xhaka taunted home fans and removed his shirt when storming off the pitch after he was substituted. The Swiss international has since admitted he wanted to leave the club in that following winter’s transfer window.

Three years on though, such turmoil seems unrecognisable. His fortunes have been massively transformed at the club, and he’s now considered one of Mikel Arteta’s most important squad members.

His role and importance to this season’s squad was clear to see in Saturday’s impressive 3-1 North London derby win over Tottenham when the midfielder was quick to summon his fellow players over for a pep talk following Thomas Partey’s opening goal.

Xhaka himself got on the scoresheet in that game, netting the third and final strike to cap off what had been another impressive all-round performance from the 30-year-old.

Although we’re just eight games into the new season, Xhaka has already registered five Premier League goal contributions. He needs just one more goal or assist to match his tally for each of his last two full league campaigns combined.

His increased influence from an attacking point of view is thanks to the form of midfield teammate Partey whose dominating presence in the heart of the Arsenal midfield is allowing Arteta to hand Xhaka a role which sees him playing more like a number eight, rather than a number six.

Partey’s dominance in that area was on display on Saturday when he finished the game having made more tackles and interceptions than any other Arsenal player.

Xhaka when playing in that deeper defensive position in recent years was too often guilty of switching off which would lead to turning the ball over in dangerous areas or committing cheap fouls. Coming into this season, he’d picked up 51 yellow cards in just 186 Premier League matches.

Higher up the pitch though, these frailties in his game are far less exposed, while his strong technical skills are given a better platform to shine. Right now, he’s consistently showing an ability to take up useful positions in the attacking third, he is making well-timed runs and crucially, creating chances for his teammates.

All of this is evident in the underlying numbers. His overall touches have dropped from 68.2 per 90 last season to 61.8 in this, however touches in the penalty area are up from 1.74 per 90 to 3.63. His average in terms of shot-creating actions has also increased. In each of the last four seasons, he was posting a combined per 90 average of 2.12, however, it’s been an impressive 3.77 so far this season.

Arsenal’s new signings have attracted the bulk of the praise for the team becoming the Premier League’s early pacesetters, yet the above is capturing how Xhaka has been just as important to their early success and his turnaround across these last three years shouldn’t be overlooked.

  • Ex-Arsenal defender warns club to do everything possible to prevent Partey getting injured

Former England and Arsenal defender Matthew Upson has warned Mikel Arteta that if the Gunners are to continue challenging for the title, he must do all in his power to prevent Thomas Partey from suffering another injury.

At the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, the Ghanaian midfielder scored his team’s first goal of the year as Arsenal defeated Tottenham 3-1 in the north London derby.

“He was man of the match for me,’ former Arsenal defender Upson told Stadium Astro. “I thought he was excellent, obviously in terms of the goal contribution which is a big deal for a defensive midfield player.

“But just the simplicity. He’s that rock in midfield, that anchor allowing Xhaka to go and pick up those positions, allowing Odegaard to drift into those roles, knowing they’ve got the responsibility of someone like him sat behind them.”

He added, “Today he was excellent involved in a lot of passing in the build-up, to me that’s a man of the match performance from a midfield player.”

The former Atletico Madrid star was granted permission to leave Ghana camp in France for further assessment.

This goal was his first league goal for Arsenal FC in the 2022–23 English Premier League season.

  • Arsenal to miss the services of Thomas Partey ahead of London Derby clash against Tottenham Hotspur

Arsenal will miss the services of Ghana midfielder, Thomas Partey ahead of their London Derby against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

The 28 year old midfielder was set to start for the Black Stars in their high-profile friendly against Brazil in Le Havre on Friday, only to become a late withdrawal from the starting XI due to a precaution over what was initially reported as discomfort around the knee.

He was granted the permission to fly back to London to recover.

Partey had only just returned from a month out with a thigh injury in the 3-0 Premier League win over Brentford before the international break, a sixth victory from seven matches that left Mikel Arteta’s high-flying Gunners sitting top ahead of Manchester City and Tottenham.

Partey may be set for another spell on the sidelines were heightened when, having missed the Brazil match, he withdrew altogether from the Ghana squad ahead of their second fixture against Nicaragua in Lorca on Tuesday.

Addressing the issue on Monday, Ghana coach Addo explained that they did not want to risk Partey in a friendly and expressed hope he would return very quickly.

“Hopefully Thomas will be healthy very, very soon,” he told reporters.

“We didn’t want to take that risk in a friendly game to play him against Brazil, but surely playing a player like him against a squad like Brazil would have been helpful.”

  • Why Ghana must plan its World Cup without Thomas Partey

In a transfer window where Arsenal spent over 132.5m euros on players, fans were still dissatisfied as they believe that despite the strengthening of certain areas of the squad, some gaps that derailed their Champions League quest last season remained unfilled.

Coach Mikel Arteta and Technical Director were given a sharp reminder of the shortfalls in the squad when three games into the season, the unwelcome yet familiar story of Thomas Partey getting injured hit them again.

With few days left before the summer transfer window closed, Arsenal had to enter desperate and frantic mode after Egyptian midfielder Mohammed Elneny who replaced Partey in the Arsenal starting suffered an injury in his first start for the club this season. A long-term injury, unfortunately.

Arsenal had to press the panic button on the last day of the transfer window with Brazilian and Aston Villa midfielder, Douglas Luiz the subject of three bids that were all turned down by his club.

There was a sense of disappointment and vindication from Arsenal fans as they have seen this incident play out repeatedly since the days of Arsene Wenger when the club lose its key players to injury and that thwarts their ambitions.

In his thriving ‘lone 6’ role, Thomas Partey is perhaps Arsenal’s most important player whose presence or otherwise determines whether the club win a game or loses.

His importance to the squad can be seen in Arsenal’s last 45 games. Partey played an underwhelming 28 and in those 28, victory came in 20 of them. In the 17 that Partey missed, Arsenal won 8 and lost 8 with one draw. In the 28 games he played, Arsenal lost just 6 and drew 2.

With Partey in the team, the club average 2.2 points per game compared to 1.5 without him. Their win percentage shoots up to 71.4 when he is on the team and nosedives to 47.1% when he is injured.

They average 2.0 goals per game when he is in the middle and have just 1.4 when he is out of the team. Defensively, Partey is key too, goals against when he is on the side is 1.0 and increase to 1.6 when he is not on the side.

In these impressive stats that provide numerical and cogent evidence of the importance of Partey to Arsenal lies the worrying stats of the number of games he has missed. In Arsenal’s last 45 Premier League games, he has missed 17 of them which is a worrying stat for Mikel Arteta’s side as there appears to be no one in the team who offers something close or similar to what Partey offers the side when he is fit.

According to the reliable Orbinho, Partey has started just 58% of Arsenal’s Premier League matches since his move from Atletico Madrid two seasons ago. This was before he missed Arsenal’s games against Fulham, Aston Villa and Manchester United. What this means is that Arsenal have had their most important player not available for selection for 42% of the time he has been with the club.

These stats show that remarkably incredible yet unreliable player who a club or country cannot depend on for consistent success.

A look at Partey’s numbers with the Black Stars since he moved to Arsenal shows that in 26 games (including the latest matches against Nicaragua and Brazil) played, the midfield enforcer has missed 14 and featured in 12. That’s more than 50% of games.

The stats supplied by GHPL Stats, Derrick Ayim indicate that in the 12 matches he played, Ghana won Ghana 4, lost 4, and drew the same amount. He scored four and assisted four in those 12 games.

Of course, he is important and will prove decisive but the handlers of the Black Stars should be picking cues from the failure of Arsenal to plan for life without their marquee yet undependable player.

Partey’s injuries were a reason the club missed out on the Champions League by a whisker last season and could be a reason they fail to meet their target again this season and Otto Addo and his cohorts should be thinking along the line of preparing their team for the World Cup without Partey.

Preparing for a crucial tournament without factoring in a player who plays for a top six club in Europe’s most competitive league might sound ridiculous and unrealistic but in order not to be caught in the same situation as Arsenal, it is imperative that Otto Addo prepares his team with Partey not at the centre of it as there is a real likelihood that he would miss the World Cup or miss some of the games.

  • Arsenal need ‘important’ Thomas Partey against Tottenham – Legend

Before Saturday’s North London Derby against Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium, former Arsenal striker Alan Smith explained the significance of Thomas Partey.

Partey had a thigh injury earlier this year and missed a couple of Arsenal games before making his comeback in the 3-0 victory over Brentford right before the break.

The 29-year-old was scheduled to start for Ghana against Brazil in a pre-World Cup friendly, but he was forced to leave the starting lineup just before kickoff last Friday.
He was taken out of the picture for safety’s sake.

“Partey is a big concern. He is so important to that Arsenal team and to that midfield,” Smith said as quoted by Football London.

“We saw without him against Manchester United there were big holes in that midfield that allowed [Bruno] Fernandes to put those balls through. I don’t think that would have happened with Partey in the team and you don’t want to be reliant on one player quite to this extent, he is so important.”

He added, “[Mohamed] Elneny is out for a period of time so they are short in midfield.

“They need Partey in there and that could tip the balance. With him, they are so much more of a solid side able to support that talented attack.”

Partey has made four league appearances for Arsenal so far this campaign.

  • Mikel Arteta confirms Thomas Partey will be available for Tottenham game

Thomas Partey, the Black Stars’ vice captain, will be eligible for Arsenal’s match against Tottenham on Saturday, October 1, 2022, according to manager Mikel Arteta.

Partey reportedly injured his knee during the international break, making him questionable for the North London derby.

Arteta, with a big smile, confirmed that Partey “is part of the team” when asked about the Ghanaian’s availability for the game during his pre-match press conference.

The midfielder, who recently recovered from a thigh injury, was named in Ghana’s starting line-up for their game against Brazil on September 23, 2022, but was withdrawn due to discomfort during warmups.

The 29-year-old was permitted to depart the Ghana camp in France for further evaluation in London.

  • Arsenal must sign a new midfielder to fill in for injury-prone Thomas Partey – Gabriel Agbonlahor

Former Aston Villa captain, Gabriel Agbonlahor has shared that he has no doubt Arsenal needs a new midfielder.

According to him, there must be another top midfielder in the Arsenal squad to fill in for injury-prone Thomas Partey.

“Arsenal might look in January and think, ‘You know what, we are third in the league, we are second in the league, we have got a really good chance this season of finishing in the top four.’ And they will have to go out and get one. Their fans were very upset when the window closed and they didn’t get one.

“Thomas Partey is always going to be injured. He’s very injury prone. [Granit] Xhaka’s been outstanding, [Albert Sambi] Lokonga is still up and coming but they need one more,” the former Villa captain told Football Insider.

Gabriel Agbonlahor continued, “It was strange that they did not fill that position. Especially when they know, Thomas Partey is not going to play a lot of games this season because he is always injured. They need to definitely get one during the January window.”

While on the international break with Ghana, Thomas Partey had to return to England early to be assessed by Arsenal after he felt pain.

He is now a doubt for Arsenal’s upcoming match against Spurs.

  • Arsenal inform Ghana FA on how to use Thomas Partey to avoid injury – Reports

Premier League leaders, Arsenal have sent the Ghana Football Association [GFA] a detailed report of how Thomas Partey should be used against Brazil and Nicaragua in the international friendlies.

The 29-year-old made an injury return in the Gunners’ 3-0 win against Brentford last weekend.

Partey played 72 minutes of the game.

The Ghana deputy captain has struggled with similar muscle problems in the past and the English club want to make sure their priced asset returns from the break fit.

Arsenal contacted the Ghana Football Association before releasing the midfielder for the international assignment.

The ex-Atletico Madrid star is expected to feature for the Black Stars in the friendly against Brazil on Friday.

Partey will also play a role in the match against Nicaragua three days later in Spain.

The Arsenal star scored the goal that sent Ghana to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

He is expected to play a major role in Ghana’s squad at the 2022 Mundial scheduled to kick off on November 20.

  • We got $800K from Partey’s transfer to Arsenal – Osei Palmer

Thomas Partey’s transfer from Tema Youth football club to Arsenal provided the former an amount of $800,000, according to Wilfred Osei Palmer, the club’s manager.

Osei Palmer disclosed this during an exclusive interview on JoyNews TV.

During the move to Arsenal, Partey played for the Laliga football club Athletico Madrid.

Thomas Partey signed a 5 year contract with the Arsenal F.C., valued at £52,000,000, including an annual average salary of £10,400,000.

It is reported that Partey, in 2022, is earning a base salary of £10,400,000, while carrying a cap hit of £10,400,000.

Meanwhile, the 29-year-old has been included in the Black Stars squad for the upcoming international friendly matches against Brazil and Nicaragua.

  • Ranking Africa’s most expensive transfers eve

    17. Eric Bailly

Bailly became Africa‘s most expensive defender when he signed for Manchester United from Villarreal for £30 million.

It was a significant gamble by arriving Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho, but Bailly quickly adapted to life in the Premier League and looked set to establish himself as the club’s first-choice defender for a decade to come.

Unfortunately, injuries, managerial upheaval, and a loss of form have limited his impact at Old Trafford in recent campaigns, and he departed on loan for Olympique de Marseille this summer.

    16. Hakim Ziyech

Chelsea parted with £33 million to sign Ziyech from Ajax, and it’s fair to say they haven’t truly got the best value for their outlay.

The Moroccan did win the Champions League under Thomas Tuchel, but he’s struggled for form and with injuries.

    15. Kalidou Koulibaly

Another big money arrival at Chelsea—Koulibaly finally made the move to the Premier League this summer after being long been tipped for a switch to the PL.

He’s endured a mixed start to life in England, and while the exit of Tuchel is a blow, in time, he should prove to be a smart investment for the Pensioners.

Chelsea paid Napoli a reported £33 million for the Senegal defender’s services.

    14. Sadio Mane

Mohamed Salah’s move to Liverpool knocked his new Reds teammate off top spot as Africa’s (then) most expensive player of all time.

Mane moved to Anfield from Southampton for £35 million, and while his maiden campaign on Merseyside wasn’t trouble-free, he made an excellent impression, and initially at least, threatened to be the catalyst for an unexpected title tilt by the Reds.

In subsequent campaigns, he grew into a genuine world-class player, and was influential as the Merseysiders clinched the Champions League in 2019.

    13. Achraf Hakimi

Internazionale reportedly parted with £36.3 million to sign then-21-year-old Hakimi from Real Madrid following the conclusion of his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund.

The wideman’s stay in Italy was brief—just one season—although he did win the Serie A title under Antonio Conte before moving on to Paris Saint-Germain.

    12. Mohamed Salah

Liverpool snared the AS Roma forward for an initial £36.9 million with some reports suggesting that the price could rise to £43.9 million considering add-ons.

Either way, the deal represents an absolute bargain for the Reds.

Salah thrived under the pressure, smashing records aplenty during his maiden season in Anfield, and becoming the darling of the home fans in the process.

Salah went on to inspire Liverpool to the Champions League crown in 2019 and the Premier League title in 2020.

    11. Sebastien Haller

West Ham United parted with £45 million to sign Haller from Eintracht Frankfurt.

He struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League and subsequently moved on to Borussia Dortmund.

    10. Thomas Partey

Squeezing into the top 100 most expensive transfers of all time, Arsenal met Atletico Madrid’s €50 million asking price to prise Partey away from La Liga.

When fit, he’s impressed for the Gunners, but he hasn’t been an overwhelming success, with injuries costing him significant swathes of gametime.

    9. Aaron Wan-Bissaka

The Anglo-Congolese full-back joined Manchester United from Crystal Palace for £49.5 million.

He’s excelled in the Premier League with the Eagles, impressing with his sturdy defensive displays, but has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford, and represents a major flop.

    8. Naby Keita

Nabbed by Liverpool from RasenBallsport Leipzig, Keita is yet to truly realise his potential following a £52.75 million move.

He was one of the key protagonists in Leipzig’s climb up the German football ladder, but took his time adapting to life in the Premier League, before injury affected his progress.

    7. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Arsenal parted with £56 million to bring Borussia Dortmund’s Aubameyang to North London, despite the Gabon international having been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

The Central African hitman wasted little time demonstrating his quality under Arsene Wenger, and then Unai Emery.

Auba went on to share the Premier League’s Golden Boot with Mane and Salah.

    6. Achraf Hakimi

Making the list for a second time, Hakimi’s one-year stay at Inter ended when he moved to PSG for an initial fee of £51.3 million, rising to £60 million.

The Wideman has already enjoyed success in France—winning the Ligue 1 title to add to his extensive medal haul—but the major aim at the Parc des Princes is surely getting his hand on the European Cup.

    5. Riyad Mahrez

Manchester City parted with a club-record £60 million to sign Mahrez, finally ending the Algeria international’s extended wait to exit Leicester City.

He may have been a Premier League winner with the Foxes in 2016, during that most remarkable of campaigns, but Mahrez hasn’t always held down a starting berth at City.

    4. Cedric Bakambu

Beijing Guoan parted with an eye-watering £65 million to take Bakambu to China after the striker had netted 15 goals for Villarreal during the 2017-18 season.

He hit the ground running in the Far East, with eight goals in his first eight games, and also caught the eye with a series of fine showings during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Democratic Republic of Congo hitman previously represented Sochaux and Bursaspor.

    3. Victor Osimhen

Coming in at €80 million plus add-ons, Osimhen’s move from LOSC Lille to Napoli was primed to propel the striker to become Africa’s top striker.

He’s finally settled into life as the Partenopei’s leading man, scoring 24 goals across his first two seasons at the club, prompting rumours of a move to Manchester United.

    2. Nicolas Pepe

Pepe became Africa’s most expensive player when Arsenal parted with £72 million to bring the winger to the Emirates Stadium from LOSC Lille.

He penned a five-year contract with the Gunners after scoring 22 goals and contributing 11 assists in Ligue 1, prompting Unai Emery to turn to him ahead of Wilfried Zaha.

Arsenal fans were desperate for Pepe to emulate Eden Hazard, LOSC’s finest import to the Premier League, rather than his compatriot Gervinho, but the wideman never hit the heights in London.

    1. Wesley Fofana

Still eligible for the Ivory Coast, Fofana swapped LeicesterCity for Chelsea during the recent transfer window after forcing through his exit from the King Power Stadium.

The 21-year-old moved to Stamford Bridge for a fee of €80.4 million, making him the big spenders’ second biggest transfer of all time, although his arrival couldn’t save Thomas Tuchel from being dismissed.
