Akosombo Dam spillage has displaced about 31,000 so far – NADMO confirms

As reported on The Forum, a weekend news analysis show on Asaase 99.5 Accra, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) disclosed that a minimum of 31,000 individuals across nine districts have been displaced due to the release of excess water from the Akosombo and Kpong dams.

The ramifications of this overflow have been significant, with widespread destruction of crops, the closure of schools, and a noticeable economic standstill, particularly in Mepe, which serves as the epicenter in the Volta Region. This situation has also affected parts of the Eastern and Greater Accra regions.

“We have moved most of the affected people to a safe haven. About 31,000 people have been displaced,” NADMO deputy director general Seji Saji told Wilberforce Asare on Saturday (21 October).

During the same program, George Ayisi, the spokesperson for NADMO, reported that relief operations were progressing as planned, and he appealed to compassionate Ghanaians to contribute to these efforts. He mentioned that they have already established 20 safe shelters to accommodate some of the displaced individuals, emphasizing that they are working diligently to ensure that the contaminated water in the affected area is not used.

The Volta River Authority (VRA), which operates the dam, has taken several measures to assist the affected population.

They have provided mobile toilets and are collaborating with the Ghana Health Service to set up mobile clinics to care for the displaced individuals.

These efforts include sending 14 mobile toilets to Mepe and 10 to Adidome in North Tongu, along with the restoration of the water supply system to the Aveyime community.

The additional mobile toilets are intended to alleviate the pressure on the existing toilet facilities in the safe shelters. VRA has equipped these toilets with biodegrading units to help control cross-contamination. They have also pledged to provide more toilet facilities to other affected communities in the lower Volta Basin.

Collaborating with NADMO, VRA has already distributed relief items to flood victims, including canned food, rice, sugar, toiletries, boats, and hot meals.

Furthermore, the Minority in Parliament is urging the government to promptly address the needs of flood disaster victims by relocating them to the Saglemi housing project.

“We have Saglemi sitting idle, the government must ensure that they house the people of these 11 affected communities for this constituency properly. We are suggesting that as a matter of urgency, they can relocate them temporarily to the Saglemi Housing project,” the Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson said during a tour of the flooded communities on Friday (20 October).
President Nana Akufo-Addo has set up a committee to coordinate ongoing rescue efforts.

Ghana’s meteorological service has forecast more rains this year as the West African country experiences a marked increase in the frequency and unpredictability of weather events, amid warnings linked to climate change.

ECG announces months delay in power supply from Sogakope BSP

Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has informed the public that the restoration of power from the Sogakope Bulk Supply Point (BSP) may face significant delays, mainly due to the extensive flooding caused by the spillage of the Akosombo Dam.

To ensure the safety of the station, the company had to shut down the Bulk Supply Point, which, unfortunately, led to power disruptions in several areas, including Sogakope, Anloga, Keta, Akatsi South, Abor, and North Tongu districts.

However, electricity is still being supplied to Adidome and its vicinity from Juapong, with the remaining areas receiving power from the Aflao Bulk Supply Point (BSP).

Benjamin Obeng Antwi, the Volta Regional Public Relations Officer of ECG, explained that the Sogakope BSP remains closed because the company foresees that it may not be operational for the next several months.

ECG is currently focusing on a long-term solution to ensure a continuous power supply to its customers, especially if the situation persists for six months or longer.

Antwi also emphasised that the company has enhanced its network and urged customers to prioritise safety.

Meanwhile, Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) is grappling with power supply issues that are affecting its ability to maintain water supply to the flood-affected regions.

Francis Lamptey, the Regional Chief Manager of GWCL, disclosed that they are rationing water to the affected areas based on the availability of electricity.

In addition, GWCL is installing parallel distribution lines from Aflao to serve the flood victims.

Lamptey further mentioned that the headworks at Agordome is currently supplying 5,500 cubic metres out of the usual 7,570 cubic meters, resulting in a shortfall of 2,070 cubic metres, equivalent to 455,620 gallons.

He outlined the rationing and water management program for various communities in a weekly rotation, contingent on electricity availability.

Lamptey also expressed hope that the flooding around the headworks would eventually subside.

Ato Forson ambulance case: This prosecution is a “persecution” – Speaker

The prosecution of Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson in the ongoing ambulance case trial has been referred to as “persecution” by Speaker of the Parliament Alban Bagbin.

He pointed out that this represents a risky move for the government, with the outcome being uncertain.

While the Speaker does not condone the violation of Ghanaian laws, he advocates for the impartial application of these laws, rather than singling out political adversaries.

Mr. Bagbin conveyed these sentiments during his visit to the family of the late former Majority Leader, Felix Kwasi Owusu-Adjepong, to offer condolences on Thursday, October 19.

“The Minority Leader, unfortunately, is being persecuted so on a number of these occasions, he can’t be with us because he is appearing in court. As of now, he is in court being tried. It is not that we don’t want the rule of law to apply; we all want it to apply, but where prosecution is just a gamble, ‘I may win or I may not win, but let me do it’, I will not prescribe that for any politician because, as a leader, you always have to take the risk; you could get it right, you could get it catastrophically wrong.”

“Could you be prosecuted because of that? Then there will be tribulation; nobody will have the courage to come out boldly and take decisions where things are really hard.”

“These are some of the things that we have to take on board as we continue to work together in Ghana. It happens all over the world, it is not only in Ghana, these things happen worldwide, you can go to the UK and, the US, and they don’t go into prosecution, there are other ways of handling these things. He has been absent the day we were going to President Kufuor’s place he was in court, and today too he is in court.”

On Thursday, October 19, former Finance Minister Seth Terkper appeared in court to provide testimony on behalf of the accused individuals.

He informed the Economic and Financial Court in Accra that he had given full authorization to his then Deputy, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, to write to the Bank of Ghana, requesting the establishment of Letters of Credit in favor of Big Sea General Trading Ltd of Dubai for the procurement of 30 ambulances.

During his testimony, Mr. Terkper clarified that he had issued this authorization during a special management meeting that he chaired at the Finance Ministry.

He explained that this directive was prompted by the receipt of a legal opinion from the Attorney General and the Ministry’s legal department, which aimed to ensure the execution of a contract between the Government of Ghana and Big Sea for the supply of 200 ambulances.

This was done to prevent potential payment of a judgment debt in case Big Sea sued the government due to extensive delays and contract breaches.

Mr. Terkper refuted claims by the current Attorney General, asserting that Dr. Ato Forson had instigated the establishment of the Letters of Credit without just cause or proper authorization.

    Background
Dr Ato Forson and two others; former director of the Ministry of Health, Sylvester Anemana and businessman Richard Jakpa, are on trial for allegedly causing financial loss in the purchase of some ambulances during his time as Deputy Finance Minister.

The Attorney General contends the state has lost €2.37 million due to the purchase of the ambulances which turned out to be defective. All three persons have pleaded not guilty.

Bring that charge sheet that shows Kikibees CEO abused drugs – Best friend dares Angel FM

A close friend of the late Kikibees CEO, Mr. Bennet Adomah Agyekum, has demanded that Angel FM provide the police charge sheet containing details indicating that the deceased’s death was related to substance abuse and other factors.

Furthermore, he has urged them to produce audio evidence of the police presenting such findings in court.

Previously, Angel FM’s court correspondent had reported that the findings presented to the Madina Magistrate Court indicated that Ben was in his lover’s house on the night of his death, and allegations of her stabbing or shooting him were unfounded.

According to the police reports, Ben had consumed substances before visiting his girlfriend, which led to increased agitation and ultimately resulted in a confrontation at her residence.

The reports also mentioned that at one point, Ben’s girlfriend had to leave the scene because he threatened to harm her. The police stated that Ben was discovered on the floor with marks on his arms and blood coming from his nose, suggesting he had collapsed.

However, the deceased’s best friend has vehemently rejected these claims, expressing his frustration with the unfolding events during a media address at the one-week observation of the late Kikibees CEO.

“I dare Angel FM to bring the police charge sheet that was presented at the Madina Magistrate Court. I dare them to produce the voice of the police officer who said in the courtroom that it was a substance that killed Ben. I dare them. Nobody brought out any report of that sort. I have a copy of the charge sheet.

“The man left behind kids, a wife, and an entire family. Regardless of what killed him, regardless of where he was, let’s stop denting his image,” he established.

    Family rejects Police’ findings

The mother of Kikibees CEO, Cecilia Adomah, vehemently opposes the claims, suggesting that her son either took his own life or succumbed to the influence of drugs.

She adamantly maintains that her son bears no resemblance to the negative portrayal being attributed to him by the authorities.

In a previous interview with Bigscout Media, Mrs. Cecilia Adomah affirmed that her son is a thriving, responsible young businessman with no conceivable motive to contemplate suicide or endanger his life.

Ben’s younger sibling is equally convinced that his brother met an untimely demise due to foul play, leaning towards the belief of an assassination.

Osebo the Zaraman, who is Ben’s brother-in-law, also aligns with this same account of events.

The particular ceremony that took place on Friday, October 20, 2023, was no exception.

On this occasion, around 900 men and women received their calls to the bar, and this event, like previous ones, unfolded with its own set of intriguing narratives.

Among these stories, one that resonated with many was the account of the Phixon-Owoo brothers.

These three siblings, all of whom were admitted to the bar on the same day, became the subject of online celebration and applause by numerous individuals.

  •  Budget will be geared towards checking high taxes, escalating cost of doing business – Ofori-Atta

Budget will be geared towards checking high taxes, escalating cost of doing business – Ofori-Atta

Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has revealed that the 2024 Budget will incorporate strategies and initiatives aimed at tackling the elevated cost of conducting business within the nation.

In addition, he emphasised that the budget will also confront issues pertaining to the burden of excessive taxation that impacts the private sector.

Mr. Ofori-Atta made this announcement during his appearance on the PM Express Business Edition with host George Wiafe on October 19, 2023.

“It’s very important that, looking at where we are as a country , everything be done to support the private sector to help them play a critical role in the recovery of the economy”, he said.

“We have met all the interest groups from the private sector and their concerns will definitely be taken into account when it comes to the 2024 budget,” he promised.

Mr. Ofori-Atta also announced that the ministry has met all relevant stakeholders and unions.

“We have also met with the Association of Ghana Industries, the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Ghana Union of Traders Association. Predominately, issues about taxes have been their major priority and we have to deal with them,”, he said.

He added that there will be a Mutual Prosperity Dialogue engagement with the private sector before the budget presentation.
In terms of focus, the Finance Minister also disclosed that the government will be prioritising how to get the private sector back “into a stable” position.

“This is because the government cannot do everything. So the private sector needs to be supported to help managers of the economy create jobs”, he added.

As per Ghana’s Financial Administration Act, Parliament is mandated to review and endorse the Annual Budget for the forthcoming financial year by December 31 each year.

In accordance with this directive, the presentation of the 2024 budget should take place before the conclusion of November 2023.

This timeline will provide ample opportunity for Parliament to thoroughly examine and deliberate on the budget in preparation for the upcoming year.

Additionally, the Finance Minister revealed that the formulation of the 2024 Budget will be influenced by the post-Covid-19 Program for Economic Growth, a plan that receives support from the International Monetary Fund.

“We are targeting to present the budget to parliament by November 15, 2023”, the Finance Minister disclosed.

The Finance Minister also announced that the government will also implement programmes that will help in the expansion of the economy and sustain the recent recovery.

He also disclosed that the government is seeking to achieve economic growth beyond 2.5% by December 2023.

“The IMF expected Ghana to do averagely about 1.5%, but they have already indicated that they will be reviewing that projection going forward. We believe that we are going to do better when it comes to the expansion of the economy,” he said.

“We are committed to instituting programmes that will help sustain the numbers that we are witnessing when it comes to growth,” he added.

  • EC calls for framework to check spread of ‘fake’ news, social media usage during election

EC calls for framework to check spread of ‘fake’ news, social media usage during election

Electoral Commission (EC) has thrown its support behind the call for the creation of a national framework to govern the use of social media in the country during national elections.

The Commission believes that such a framework would play a crucial role in mitigating the widespread dissemination of misinformation during elections, preserving the integrity of the electoral process, and safeguarding the nation’s democracy, peace, and security.

During a seminar titled “Impact of Disinformation on Electoral Integrity, Peace, and Security in Africa” in Accra, Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, emphasized the need for such a framework.

This event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and the Institute of Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA).

The seminar attracted participation from key figures representing both public and private institutions, including the judiciary, political parties, civil society organisations, and security and political analysts.

Mrs. Mensa highlighted that one of the most pressing challenges faced by electoral management bodies today is the proliferation of fake news and disinformation campaigns on social media platforms.

“Indeed, the culture of spreading fake news or falsehood is not a new phenomenon but the advent of the internet and social media has allowed it to spread at a faster and more widespread rate, with damaging consequences for electoral management bodies and elections,” she emphasised.

The Electoral Commissioner noted that social media, if not properly managed, could pose a real threat to elections and destabilise the peace and security of the country.

Therefore, the Commission would be happy if a regulation was put in place to manage social media use, especially during elections, to check for misinformation.

“We, at the Electoral Commission of Ghana, support the development of a framework to guide the use of social media around elections and around the peace and security of our respective countries.

“I join my voice to Elon Musk, and I quote him: “There should be regulations on social media to the degree that it negatively affects the public good,” she emphasised.

She, however, was assured of the Commission’s commitment to deliver a free and fair general election in 2024.

“We have no doubt that, as was the case in 2020, we will carry the citizens along with us, build public trust and confidence in our work, and ultimately maintain the peace and security of our dear nation,” she assured.

Mr Albert Kan Dapaah, Minister of National Security, explained that disinformation and misinformation ranked high on the list of security challenges confronting Ghana today.

In West Africa, for instance, the Security Minister said the overthrow of democratically elected governments and the emergence of military rule were largely fueled by misinformation.

Misinformation and disinformation had emerged as potent tools that were utilised for influence operations and malicious campaigns that undermined electoral integrity, peace and security.

These campaigns, Mr Dapaah said, were orchestrated by a spectrum of actors, including both state and non-state entities, local and foreign actors, as well as political and nonpolitical players.

He, therefore, stressed the need for collaboration among all stakeholders, including civil society organisations and the media, in the fight against the phenomenon.

Dr Kevin Casas Zamora, Secretary-General, Institute of Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA), described disinformation as a “virus” that exploited already existing weaknesses in the information system.

“This pandemic of disinformation is thus both deeply rooted and truly global,” he said.

“At the International IDEA, we are engaging with this growing challenge for democracy through our new work stream that looks especially at the intersection of digitalisation and democracy, including how to build trust and the resilience of democratic institutions and processes against disinformation and other digital threats,” he stated.

“With this, we are implementing several projects aimed at protecting electoral integrity by advising election management bodies and other authorities on best practises, convening spaces for dialogue and providing technical assistance.”

Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Minister of Information, urged critical thinking and responsible journalism in the era of digital information dissemination to help curtail the threats of misinformation and disinformation.

Ms Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister of Foreign Affairs, called for a more nuanced and rights-based approach to addressing the issue of misinformation.

“We must recognise that heavy-handed responses, such as internet shutdowns or network throttling of social media, represent a grave infringement on fundamental human rights,” she noted.

UG-UTAG challenges Kan-Dapaah over allegations of academics inciting coup

The University Teachers Association of Ghana at the University of Ghana (UG-UTAG) has expressed strong disapproval of recent statements made by the National Security Minister, Albert Kan-Dapaah.

Speaking at a seminar titled “Impact of Disinformation on Electoral Integrity, Peace and Security in Africa” in Accra, the minister suggested that some individuals in academia, civil society, and the media were leveraging their influence to incite actions that could potentially disrupt the country through the dissemination of false information.

In response to these remarks, UG-UTAG voiced their concerns about the potential repercussions, emphasising that such comments could stifle the expression of dissenting viewpoints and curtail the fundamental right to free speech.

“The University of Ghana Branch of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UG-UTAG) has noted with concern some comments purportedly made by the National Security Minister, Hon. Albert Kan-Dapaah.

“According to the Honourable Minister, some identified individuals in academia (we believe, including UG-UTAG Members), civil society, and the media are leveraging their influence in society to incite a coup to destabilise the country through the spreading of misinformation and disinformation without adducing any evidence to support the claim.

“We do not support any individual or groups calling for a coup in Ghana, but at the same time, we won’t be gagged from speaking our minds forcefully on all important national issues. We would fiercely resist any attempt, including political commentary, that has the potency to usher us into the dark days of a culture of silence,” part of the statement dated October 20, read in part.

UG-UTAG underscored that effective prevention of coups and military interventions in politics hinges on the pillars of good governance, anti-corruption initiatives, responsible economic stewardship, and the proactive implementation of policies that benefit the less privileged.

According to their perspective, these actions can serve to narrow the divide between the affluent and the underprivileged, ultimately fostering the development of a robust middle class within society.

“The antidote to coups and military interventions in politics, are good governance, fight against corruption, proper management of the economy, and the implementation of proactive pro-poor policies, that can help bridge the gap between the poor and the rich, as well as create a vibrant Middle Class in society.

“While we call on the government to imbibe the antidotes listed above to secure our peace and promote political stability, we also ask for a national dialogue and conversation on how to guard against the threats of coups and safeguard our peace in Ghana,” the statement added.

Renowned Nollywood actor John Okafor, widely recognized as Mr. Ibu, recently disclosed a medical condition he was battling via his social media platforms.

He expressed concerns that if the ailment wasn’t promptly addressed, amputation of his leg might become a necessity, eliciting a flood of sympathy from his devoted fans.

Conversely, there were criticisms directed at the Nigerian Actors Guild for what some perceived as insufficient support for one of their own.

The guild, however, promptly refuted these claims.

In a significant turn of events, former governor and Senate president Abubakar Bukola Saraki stepped in to alleviate the situation.

He personally covered all the medical expenses through his foundation, a generous act that was officially announced in a statement posted on the foundation’s Facebook page last Friday.

Cannabis cultivation in Ghana: Proceeds will be directed towards new mental health treatments – Prof Akwasi Osei warns

Former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Mental Health Authority, Ambassador Akwasi Osei, has expressed his belief that the decriminalisation of cannabis cultivation may result in more losses than gains for Ghana.

He argues that the negative mental health consequences linked to cannabis use overshadow the perceived economic advantages, which have been a primary argument in favour of recent legalisation for industrial and medicinal purposes.

“Multiples of the money that will be realised will go into taking care of the various health issues it will bring so in the end, it will not help. Some people are cultivating the wrong cannabis with what has been approved and the bad one is what causes the mental illness that requires money to treat.

“In the end, it will be a bad decision. So in my view, it was not necessary that the law be passed,” he told the media at the press launch of Mindfreedom Ghana, a mental health organisation.

Ghana’s parliament passed a bill that sanctioned the cultivation and utilisation of cannabis, specifically for medical and industrial purposes.

Nevertheless, on March 27, 2022, the Supreme Court of Ghana delivered a ruling in favour of a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Section 43 of the Narcotics Control Commission Act.

This particular section relates to the issuance of licences for medical cannabis cultivation.

In a significant development, the decision to legalise cannabis was reversed for the second time in May 2023.

In a majority decision of 5-4, the Supreme Court upheld its position that the legislation permitting cannabis cultivation in Ghana was unconstitutionally passed by Parliament.

During Ancelotti’s initial tenure as Madrid’s coach from 2013 to 2015, Ramos played a pivotal role, marked by his iconic 93rd-minute equalizer in the club’s 2014 Champions League final victory against Atletico Madrid—a goal etched in the annals of the club’s history.

Ramos, the former captain of Madrid and Spain, made a return to his hometown club Sevilla as a free agent last month after departing from Paris Saint-Germain.

“I’d love to see [Ramos] and say hello,” Ancelotti said in a news conference on Friday. “I have affection for all the players I’ve had, but above all, I have special affection for him.

“If I’m here today, it’s because of Sergio Ramos. If he hadn’t scored the goal in the [Champions League] final, I probably wouldn’t be here. For that, and for everything he did for this club, everybody has a lot of affection for him. He’ll play well for sure. Let’s hope he doesn’t score but if he does, he can celebrate however he wants!”

Ancelotti returned to coaching Madrid in 2021 and won the La Liga and Champions League double in his first season back. However, he has been the subject of rumours over his future due to rumours of a job in Brazil after failing to win both of those titles the previous year.

“As I’ve often said, I’m very happy at Real Madrid. I’ll stop there,” he said on Friday when asked if he’d like to renew his contract. “You made it difficult for me with that question! Would I like to renew or not? I don’t talk about my future.”

Madrid currently leads La Liga with 24 points, maintaining a three-point lead over Barcelona, who are in third place. This sets the stage for the highly anticipated El Clásico match between the two giants next week.

During the international break, a few Madrid players expressed their concerns about their recent roles under Ancelotti.

This included midfielders Eduardo Camavinga and Aurélien Tchouaméni being asked to adapt to unfamiliar positions such as left-back and centre-back.

Additionally, Rodrygo voiced his lack of enthusiasm for playing as a centre forward.

“Sometimes you have to make sacrifices,” Ancelotti said. “Like Camavinga has, like Tchouameni has, like Rodrygo has sometimes… The demands of the team come first, followed by individual demands.

“If I pick Camavinga at left-back, I’ll inform him that he’s playing there and ask, ‘can you do it?’ Nobody has said no.

“Speaking of Sergio Ramos, I picked him at pivot in a game against Atletico Madrid. Obviously, he didn’t like it. But with the demands of the game, I did it. There’s a word for it, altruism.”

  • Both Messi and Haaland deserve to win Ballon d’Or – Pep Guardiola

Both Messi and Haaland deserve to win Ballon d’Or – Pep Guardiola

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes that both Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland deserve to clinch the Ballon d’Or.

Messi played a pivotal role in leading Argentina to victory in the World Cup in Qatar, while Haaland’s remarkable performance saw him score 52 goals in 53 matches, contributing to City’s triumphant season with a Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup treble.

As the award ceremony is set for October 30, Messi and Haaland are considered the top contenders, and Guardiola affirmed that both players have earned the recognition.

“Always, I said the Ballon d’Or should be in two sections: one for Messi, then another one so Haaland should win, yes,” Guardiola told a news conference on Friday.

“We won the treble; he scored a million goals. The worst season for Messi is the best for the rest of the players. Both deserve it. Realistically, I want Haaland to have it because he helped us achieve what we achieved. I would love it. But Messi won the World Cup.”

During the international break, Erling Haaland netted two goals for Norway in a 4-0 victory over Cyprus. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is optimistic that this performance will serve as a catalyst for Haaland’s return to top form with the club, especially after a three-game goal drought.

Brighton is scheduled to visit the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, and Guardiola has confirmed the availability of John Stones. Despite concerns over Stones featuring in both of England’s international matches during the break, given his limited playing time for City this season, he is ready for selection.

“We were a little bit concerned,” Guardiola added. “We spoke with Gareth [Southgate], and we have an incredible relationship. We were concerned because Stones didn’t play one minute in the last two months and then played for the national team. He was so important and we could not use him.

“We’re happy he got minutes but what if he gets injured? So he plays some minutes and comes off. They love to play for their countries, and I never say not to go there. Thankfully, everything was right and he’s ready for the next games.”

‘My team, my focus, I’m not involved’ – Ten Hag distances himself from Ratcliffe’s Man Utd bid

Erik ten Hag has expressed his lack of information regarding Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s potential investment in Manchester United.

Ratcliffe and his INEOS-backed consortium are planning to acquire a 25% stake, which would grant them a say in football-related decisions.

Ten Hag currently holds veto power over Manchester United’s player recruitment.

However, the Dutchman stated that he has not been informed of any alterations to the club’s organizational structure.

“I’m not involved in this,” Ten Hag told a news conference on Friday.

“Others in the club are dealing with this, I’m focusing on my team, focusing on the current block and the most important priority is the next game, it’s all about that.”

United will resume after the international break with a trip to the Premier League’s bottom side, Sheffield United, on Saturday.

Casemiro will miss out because of an ankle problem but Sergio Reguilón and Raphaël Varane are set to return.

Ten Hag also confirmed that Victor Lindelöf is available after the defender was caught up in the incident that forced the abandonment of Sweden’s Euro 2024 qualifier with Belgium.

The game was called off at halftime after two Sweden fans were fatally shot in Brussels before kickoff.

“It’s a terrible situation and sad for the victims and the relatives, family and friends of the victims there in Brussels,” Ten Hag added.

“It’s a crazy world. Of course, Victor had a problem; it’s a bad experience. As the captain of the Swedish national team, he had to stay in front and give statements but he dealt with it. He’s exhausted from it. He didn’t sleep overnight.

“He returned and yesterday [Thursday] he was back in training. He dealt with the situation. Our thoughts are with Victor, the victims’ relatives and the victims. Victor has energy and is ready to play this game.”

  • Goalkeeper Ramsdale ‘pained’ after losing his place in Arsenal to Raya

Goalkeeper Ramsdale ‘pained’ after losing his place in Arsenal to Raya

Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has expressed his feelings of “suffering and hurt” following his displacement from Arsenal’s starting lineup in favour of David Raya.

However, he emphasised that he maintains a positive relationship with his teammate.

Ramsdale had been Arsenal’s primary choice in goal since joining the team in 2021, playing in all 38 Premier League matches last season.

Nevertheless, he found himself on the bench for the north London club’s most recent four league games, with David Raya taking his place.

Raya had arrived on loan from Brentford in August.

“I think because it’s one of the first times it’s happened with the situation, it has been difficult,” Ramsdale told reporters.

“Whether it is me or David who plays, we need to be able to just focus and play but at the same time, it’s a strange, big headline. We have to deal with it and that is what we are doing. If we didn’t get on it, it wouldn’t work. We work professionally really well together.

“There’s days where I come in and I’m down because of the situation and he picks me up and for whatever reason there might be a day where he’s down and even though I’m suffering and hurting for not playing, I have to stand up and be able to push him.”

Ramsdale was called up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this month’s friendly against Australia and Euro 2024 qualifier against Italy, but the 25-year-old did not feature in either game.

“For me, I need to get back into my club team to keep getting picked [for England] and keep giving the manager a headache because if I’m not, then that’s an easier decision for him,” Ramsdale added.

“It is a worry; it is the first time I have found myself in this situation.”

Arsenal, who are second in the Premier League, travel to face Chelsea on Saturday.

  • NDC apologises to victims of Akosombo Dam spillage for “unfortunate” comments by Akufo-Addo

NDC apologises to victims of Akosombo Dam spillage for “unfortunate” comments by Akufo-Addo

National Democratic Congress (NDC) have apologised on behalf of President Akufo Addo for the “unfortunate” comments he made during his visit to the victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage.

“Let me also say that on behalf of the people of Ghana and the NDC, the minority in parliament wants to apologise to the people of the Volta region for the statement made by the president of the Republic of Ghana,” he apologised.

This apology follows Akufo-Addo’s statements, which implied that his presence at Mepe, one of the many affected areas in the Volta Region, was a result of the fact that he is president of Ghana, and as is expected of him, he is supposed to come through when his citizens are in distress.

“I came here because Ghanaians are having difficulties and suffering. And it is my responsibility to try and help.

“Because if it is the question of counting who votes for me and who doesn’t vote for me, I shouldn’t be here because you don’t vote for me. But that is not my concern. And in any event, one day you would vote for me and my party,” were the words of the president.

As many, including Members of Parliament (MPs) and others alike, are offering humanitarian aid and support to the victims, the Minority in Parliament on October 20, 2023, has done the same.

Minority leader Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, during the donation to the victims, expressed his disappointment over the president’s remarks upon his visit while the victims were in “pain”.

“Let me say that we are here as the NDC and on the authority of our leader, the former President John Mahama, to share in your pain and to make some few donations.

“On behalf of the NDC, we say we are truly sorry for what has happened to you. In your language, you’d say “babanami”.

“We consider the statement very unfortunate and this statement should not come from the father of the land. In times like this, it surprises us and we are really disappointed in the statement coming from his excellency, the president,” he fumed.

Akosombo Dam is a hydroelectric power plant that generates electricity from the Volta River. The dam has a reservoir that can store water up to a maximum level of 276 feet.

However, due to heavy rainfall in the upstream areas, the water level in the reservoir has been rising steadily, threatening to overflow the dam.

To prevent this, the Volta River Authority (VRA), which operates the dam, has been spilling excess water from the dam into the downstream areas.

Juve stand with Nicolo Fagioli as player serves ban sentence

Juventus has pledged complete support for Nicolo Fagioli after the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) officially initiated his seven-month suspension for violating regulations on betting on matches.

The Serie A club made this announcement on Thursday.

The FIGC initially disclosed the penalty on Tuesday and later confirmed that the suspension’s commencement date is October 19.

Consequently, Fagioli may be eligible to return at the conclusion of the season.

The FIGC also confirmed that Fagioli will undergo therapy for his gambling lasting at least six months and in a minimum of 10 public meetings over a period of five months.

“The club has noted the official press release from FIGC n°177/AA and confirms its full support for Nicolo Fagioli in tackling this path,” Juventus said in a statement.

“We will provide the player with the necessary support in carrying out the indicated therapeutic plan and, as expressly provided for in the agreement, collaborating with the Federation to outline the scheduled appointments.”

The club expressed their strong belief that the player will be capable of making a triumphant comeback after serving the ban, with the unwavering support of the club itself, his teammates, family, and the professionals who will aid in his rehabilitation.

Newcastle United, on the other hand, announced on Wednesday that their midfielder, Sandro Tonali, is also currently under scrutiny in connection with betting activities.

Simultaneously, AS Roma conveyed their concern that reports linking their midfielder, Nicola Zalewski, and forward, Stephan El Shaarawy, to betting investigations have adversely impacted the players’ reputations.

“The club has full confidence in Nicola and Stephan when they say they have nothing to do with this matter,” the Serie A club said in a statement.

UEFA declares Belgium-Sweden match draw after shooting

UEFA announced on Thursday that the outcome of the European Championship qualifying match between Belgium and Sweden, which was halted this week due to the tragic deaths of two Swedish fans before the game, will be upheld.

The match was suspended at halftime with the score tied at 1-1, and both the Belgian and Swedish federations had requested that this result be retained.

“The Belgian and Swedish Football Federations are satisfied with the decision,” said the Belgian federation in a statement.

UEFA said “the result of this match does not impact the qualification of Group F.” Belgium had already qualified for the tournament to be held in Germany next year before they took on Sweden.

Belgium top the group ahead of Austria, who have also sealed qualification for the Euros.

“Football should be a celebration but on Monday night, a cowardly act decided otherwise. At such a moment, when the football family is struck in its heart, sporting results are secondary.” Manu Leroy, the interim CEO of the Belgian FA,

Investigators are still trying to determine the motive for Monday night’s attack, which occurred not far from the King Baudouin stadium where the qualifier took place.

Authorities in the Belgian capital shot and killed the suspect on Tuesday, hours after they say he gunned down three Swedish fans, killing two of them. He posted a video online in which he claimed credit for the attack and said the Quran was “a red line for which he is ready to sacrifice himself.”

“We are pleased to hear that UEFA has come to a decision and that the decision is in line with what both federations wished for,” said Håkan Sjöstrand, the CEO of the Swedish FA. “However, sporting matters are secondary; our thoughts are with the victims and their families. That innocent Swedish supporters became targets of terrorism is shocking and it is hard to foresee what the consequences will be for the future.”

A moment of silence will be observed at games in Belgium and Sweden as a tribute to the two fans who died.

The Belgian League said that “next matchday, all games will start with a minute of silence in honour of the two Swedish football fans who lost their lives in the terrorist attack in Brussels.

This minute of silence will take place at both Belgian and Swedish football grounds.”

Unfortunately Real Madrid couldn’t enjoy Hazard’s quality – Portugal coach Martinez

Portugal coach Roberto Martinez expressed his disappointment that Eden Hazard couldn’t showcase his talent at Real Madrid.

Unfortunately, the 32-year-old Hazard announced his retirement from football earlier this month following a period marked by injuries during his time at Real Madrid.

Martinez, who coached Hazard in the Belgium national team, told Cadena Ser: “We shouldn’t remember Hazard with sadness.

“He has been a genius, a leader and for me, without a doubt, the best player of the 2018 World Cup. I’m saddened that the Real Madrid fans didn’t get to enjoy Eden’s quality.”

Eden Hazard is a former professional footballer who played as a winger for clubs such as Lille, Chelsea, and Real Madrid, and for the Belgium national team.

He is widely regarded as one of the best players of his generation, known for his dribbling, creativity, and scoring ability. He won several trophies and individual awards during his career, including two Premier League titles, a Champions League title, and the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award.

Hazard announced his retirement from football on October 10, 2023, at the age of 32. He said that he had decided to end his career after 16 years and more than 700 matches played.

    Martinez and Hazard

He said that he had realised his dream and had fun on many pitches around the world. He thanked his managers, coaches, teammates, clubs, fans, family, friends, and advisors for their support and encouragement. He also said that he would enjoy his loved ones and have new experiences.

Hazard’s retirement came after a disappointing spell at Real Madrid, where he joined from Chelsea in 2019 for £89m. He played just 54 league games for the Spanish giants and scored only 7 goals in all competitions.

He was plagued by injuries and poor form and left the club at the end of last season. He was a free agent since his contract was terminated in June.

He had already retired from international football in December 2022, after being part of the Belgium squad that was eliminated in the group stage of the World Cup.

According to information from Fabrizio Romano, the iconic footballer’s son has formalised a deal with the youth team of the Riyadh club and is set to commence training with his new teammates in the coming days.

The 13-year-old has been honing his skills in Saudi Arabia since his father’s transfer to Al-Nassr in January of this year.

Permanent stay of João Félix at Barca to cost club €80m

Atletico Madrid is open to the idea of allowing forward João Félix to make a permanent move to Barcelona, provided they receive an offer within the range of €70 million to €80 million, as reported by Marca.

The 23-year-old is said to be content at Barcelona, where he is currently on loan.

He has made a significant impact, contributing to five goals in eight matches across all competitions and forming a formidable partnership with striker Robert Lewandowski.

Barcelona’s president, Joan Laporta, is reportedly planning discussions with the aim of securing Félix’s permanent stay at the club.

Laporta’s optimism lies in the club’s favourable relationship with the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, which could potentially facilitate the deal.

As of now, Atletico Madrid has not received a formal offer from the LaLiga champions, but they are expected to maintain their stance on the transfer fee, especially since Félix recently signed a two-year contract extension that keeps him with the club until the summer of 2029.

  • Mocking Tiktok video? Osimhen makes U-turn over Napoli contract extension – Club boss confirms

Mocking Tiktok video? Osimhen makes U-turn over Napoli contract extension – Club boss confirms

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has disclosed that contract negotiations with Victor Osimhen have hit a standstill, raising the possibility of the striker’s departure.

Serie A club Napoli had been engaged in discussions with the Nigerian star regarding a new contract, aiming to fend off interest from various European clubs for his services.

Although Osimhen is under contract with Napoli until 2025, potential suitors like Chelsea, Real Madrid, and certain Saudi Arabian clubs have expressed their interest, prompting Napoli’s desire to secure his long-term commitment.

Initially, Napoli clarified that their social media posts were not intended to upset their star player, despite the controversy.

However, this season witnessed a strained relationship between Napoli and Osimhen, with the club’s TikTok account posting videos that teased the forward.

In response, Osimhen’s agent threatened legal action against the club, and the player removed all references to Napoli from his Instagram account.

While Napoli initially maintained that these incidents had not disrupted their contract discussions, the situation has now taken a different turn.

De Laurentiis, during a press conference, implied that Osimhen might end up being sold, much like defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

He said at a press conference, “I have never not been calm when it comes to Osimhen, but it takes two to tango. I remain the same; if his mood has changed, then there’s not much I can do about that.

“If, after a handshake, things change, that is disappointing. We take it into account, but life goes on. We have a good rapport with him; the contract runs until 2025, so there is time. Don’t forget, I sold Koulibaly at the last minute.”

Osimhen sustained an injury while representing Nigeria on international duty, which will force him to sit out Napoli’s upcoming Serie A game against Hellas Verona.

His absence may extend to a month due to the injury.

Pep tips Brighton’s Roberto de Zerbi as “the next Man City manager”

Pep Guardiola holds the belief that Roberto de Zerbi, the coach of Brighton, could potentially become the next manager of Manchester City.

In a recent Premier League encounter at the Amex Stadium, De Zerbi’s footballing acumen enabled the Seagulls to secure a 1-1 draw against the relentless City.

According to The Telegraph, Guardiola was so impressed with his tactics in the match that he went on to say that the Italian should be “the next Manchester City manager”.

The coach, who has achieved the treble twice, holds great admiration for Brighton’s style of play, particularly their skill in building from the back.

    https://www.youtube.com/shorts/IgkM8yldggI?feature=share

Guardiola also commends De Zerbi’s strategic use of the “free man” concept, which grants his players more time with the ball and the ability to dismantle their opponents.

Guardiola openly acknowledges his efforts to learn from De Zerbi’s tactics.

Presently, Guardiola’s contract with City is in effect until the conclusion of the next season.

However, if the 52-year-old chooses not to extend his stay at Etihad, the question arises whether De Zerbi will assume the role, unless he is snatched up by another prominent European club, given his escalating reputation.

In the immediate future, these two brilliant football strategists will compete against each other as City hosts Brighton on Saturday.

  • Otumfuo tells Offinsohemaa that “whatever she is seeking, she will not get it” over alleged sale of vacant stool

Otumfuo tells Offinsohemaa that “whatever she is seeking, she will not get it” over alleged sale of vacant stool

Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, has made a firm commitment to prevent the Queen Mother of the Offinso Traditional Area, Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko, from selling the vacant Offinso Stool for financial gain.

Otumfuo has indicated that he is well-informed about the bribes offered to the Offinsohemaa and certain elders by a prospective candidate vying for the stool.

However, he asserted his unwavering resolve not to turn a blind eye to their ulterior motives.

“We definitely have to install a new chief; it is your mother [the queen mother] who has seized the stool for whatever reason but whatever she is seeking, she will not get it. I am telling you as the Asantehene.

“There is nothing said in Offinso that I am not aware of. I have only tolerated her because of her name, Ama Serwaa Nyarko and the relationship she shared with my mother. She is my senior mother; my mother liked her when she was alive and I have extended that love to her. I call her Abrewa.

“But for the current issues in Offinso, she has shown her true character for me to know she is not a good person. I will never allow anyone to sell off the Offinso stool,” he told leaders of the Offinso Traditional Council during a sitting at his court on Thursday, October 19, 2023.

Earlier this month, Otumfuo sent a strong caution to Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko over her conduct and attempt to impose a candidate on the Offinso Stool.

According to Otumfuo, he would never countenance any actions on the part of the queen and the elders that would undermine the tradition of Asanteman when it comes to the election and selection of chiefs.

“No one can arrogate powers that do not exist to themselves. None of the elders have the right to sell land when there is no Offinsohene, specifically when it is the Offinsohene who must sign off on the sale.

“There is no such power. You are to take charge until a new chief is installed and then account for your stewardship.

“So be very careful in Offinso. I am very aware of all the things you’re doing at Offinso. You’re friends with Pitin Abontengdomhene and you have recorded a tape… I am very aware of your plot and that you will go ahead and install a new chief when I travel by Monday.

“Offinso Hemaa you are aware of this; be very careful… I would never allow you to cause the downfall of Offinso,” Otumfuo stated through his linguists in an audiotape of his Asanteman court sitting shared by Royal Palace Multimedia.

The quest for a new Offinsohene

The passing of Nana Wiafe Akenten III, the late Paramount Chief of Offinso, has created a leadership vacuum and triggered a legal dispute regarding his successor.

Dr. K. K. Sarpong, a former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana National Petroleum Company (GNPC), was chosen as a candidate by the queen mother with the support of certain elders.

However, Otumfuo has rejected this choice.

Otumfuo’s objection is based on the belief that the queen’s selection of K. K. Sarpong, based on her royal lineage, contradicts established historical and traditional norms.

In response, Otumfuo has issued a stern warning to Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko and the Offinso elders, urging them to follow the appropriate procedures for presenting their candidate.

Failure to do so may result in the permanent rejection of their chosen successor.

Which leader jokes when his subjects are in distraught? shame on you! – NDC MP to Akufo-Addo’s defenders

Member of Parliament representing Builsa South, Dr Clement Apaak, has strongly criticized those who have defended President Akufo-Addo’s remarks during his visit to the victims of the dam spillage.

The lawmaker found it difficult to comprehend why certain individuals would support the president’s controversial comments.

On October 16, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo visited the Volta Region to assess the consequences of the Akosombo dam spillage and the condition of the affected individuals.

His expressions of sympathy for the victims, irrespective of their political affiliations, sparked a heated debate.

“When these things happen and the government acts, politics does not come into the matter at all. When I took the Oath of Office as president, I took the oath as president for every single individual in Ghana, all people in Ghana, all districts and whether they voted for me or not.

“Once I have taken the oath, I am the president of all the people, so Togbe, I want the people here, beginning with you and the elders, to understand that when something like this happens and the government acts, the government is acting for Ghanaians, all Ghanaians.

“I came here because Ghanaians are having difficulties and are suffering, and it is my responsibility to try and help. Because if it is a question of counting who votes for me and who doesn’t vote for me, then I shouldn’t be here because you don’t vote for me.

But that is not my concern. And, in any event, one day you will vote for me and my party,” he said to some of the victims at Mepe in the region.

While the president faced strong criticism, some individuals chose to downplay his comments as mere jokes.

However, Dr. Clement Apaak expressed bewilderment at those who supported the president, asserting that the remarks were in poor taste.

He pointed out that the president’s comments were not delivered in the context of a comedy show.

In a tweet, the MP said, “A joke! Those seeking to excuse the grossly insensitive comments by NADAA when he finally visited victims of the floods must bow their heads in shame. He was joking? Was he attending a comedy show or a festival? A leader jokes when thousands of citizens are distraught.”

New Ghana Social Justice Forum, a pressure group, organised a demonstration in front of the head office of Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST) in the Accra metropolis.

Their primary goal was to demand accountability from the Chairman of BOST’s Board.

During the protest, the President of the forum, Yahaya Alhassan, made serious allegations against the BOST Board Chairman, specifically accusing him of engaging in misconduct related to the improper awarding of contracts to companies registered under his own name.

Additionally, the forum asserted that BOST had accumulated judgement debts amounting to 3 million dollars.

The group’s demands included the dissolution of the board and the removal of high-ranking officials within the organisation.

In response to these allegations, the Deputy Managing Director of BOST refuted the claims, asserting that they lacked a factual basis.

He highlighted that the company’s financial records had undergone a thorough audit by the Auditor General, which had not revealed any evidence of such irregularities.

Nonetheless, he assured the protesters that the concerns raised by the New Ghana Social Justice Forum would be subject to a comprehensive investigation.

The Deputy Managing Director of BOST also accepted the petition presented by the forum, promising that the matter would be handled with due diligence and transparency.

Discuss important people on important programs like this – Asiedu Nketiah refutes Anyidoho’s anti-Mahama claims

National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, chose not to provide any comments on his relationship with his former deputy, Samuel Koku Anyidoho.

When responding to questions from listeners on Starr Chat, hosted by Bola Ray on Thursday, October 19, 2023, the NDC chairman stated that the matter of his relationship with the former deputy general secretary was not relevant to the occasion.

“Why should my relationship with a particular individual matter in such a program? Don’t allow people to drag an important program into something else. I won’t get into such questions,” Asiedu Nketiah retorted when the host queried further with the question.

The question sought to find out Asiedu Nketiah’s relationship with Koku and the recent allegation by the former deputy secretary that the chairman haboured animosity towards the party’s flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama and had an agenda to see the failure of his bid in the 2024 elections.

“I don’t think that this type of question qualifies to be answered on such an important program so let’s leave it,” he stated.

In a recent series of tweets posted on a popular social media platform, Anyidoho made allegations against Asiedu Nketiah, who is widely known as General Mosquito.

Anyidoho claimed that Asiedu Nketiah has made a commitment to obstruct former President John Dramani Mahama from reclaiming the presidency.

He accused Asiedu Nketiah of harbouring a deep-seated animosity towards Mahama, which, according to him, poses a threat to the party’s unity and its electoral aspirations.

Koku suggested that the origin of this controversy dates back to when John Dramani Mahama, during his presidency, allegedly attempted to remove Asiedu Nketiah from his position in 2014.

As a result of this failed attempt, Nketiah has supposedly harboured intentions to prevent Mahama’s return to the presidency ever since.

“Mosquito’s disguised, deep hatred for John Mahama has destroyed the NDC. JM tried to oust Mosquito in 2014, and Mosquito has vowed to make sure JM never becomes president again. I heard Mosquito myself vow to ensure JM never becomes president again, and I dare him to challenge me,” he added in another tweet.

This isn’t the initial instance in which Koku Anyidoho has taken aim at Asiedu Nketiah.

Anyidoho has previously accused him of acting in a deceitful manner.

This accusation arose when Nketiah had assured Anyidoho that he would vacate the general secretary position but subsequently opted to run for the same position once more during the party’s internal elections in 2018.

In 2018, Anyidoho contested against Asiedu Nketiah for the NDC’s general secretary position but was defeated by his former superior, who retained the role.

It’s time to let Inaki Williams go, he has nothing to show with Black Stars – Amankwah Mireku

Former Ghana international Yaw Amankwah Mireku has made a case for the exclusion of Inaki Williams from future Black Stars squads, citing the forward’s underwhelming performances since his debut.

Inaki Williams, currently plying his trade at Athletic Bilbao, burst onto the national scene with an inaugural appearance against Brazil.

Regrettably, in the ensuing 11 caps, the 29-year-old has yet to hit the back of the net, raising concerns about his impact on the pitch.

Mireku, a seasoned player for Hearts of Oak, scrutinised Inaki’s recent outings, particularly in the friendlies against Mexico and the United States of America.

He contends that Inaki’s contribution to the team doesn’t justify his continued inclusion.

“Since his debut for Ghana, what has he to show? Absolutely nothing. He is yet to find the back of the net upfront, and other players also deserve a chance to demonstrate their abilities,” he told Happy FM.

“Inaki needs to be excused from the team because, in over nine appearances, he has nothing to show.”

In contrast to his challenges on the national team, Inaki Williams has displayed impressive form at the club level. In the current La Liga season, he has scored four goals and contributed two assists in nine appearances for Athletic Bilbao.

Chelsea’s Chalobah linked with Jose Mourinho’s Roma

Roma is reportedly contemplating making a bid to acquire Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea during the January transfer window.

The Serie A team is currently facing a shortage of options in the center-back position due to injuries to Chris Smalling, Diego Llorente, and Marash Kumbulla.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma is exploring the possibility of adding a new defender in January, and Chelsea’s Chalobah has emerged as a potential target.

Chelsea is prepared to offload Chalobah in the winter transfer market as he does not feature in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.

Chalobah, a product of Chelsea’s youth academy, is eager to make a move and was close to joining Bayern Munich during the summer, although the deal eventually fell through.

The report suggests that Chalobah is not the sole defender on Roma’s radar.

The Serie A club might also consider reuniting Jose Mourinho with Tottenham’s Eric Dier, who has yet to make an appearance for Ange Postecoglou’s team this season.

Red Bull Salzburg’s Oumar Solet is also being monitored by the Giallorossi, and veteran center-back Jerome Boateng remains an option after Bayern withdrew from a potential deal to sign him.

For their upcoming weekend match against Monza, Roma is likely to field an emergency defensive pairing consisting of Bryan Cristante and Leandro Paredes, who typically play in defensive midfield roles.

Ken Agyapong’s camp takes Samira Bawumia’s ‘bitter, angry candidate’ comment “upon ourselves”, respond to it

The brother and lawyer of Kennedy Agyapong a New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful,Ralph Agyapong, has responded to Second Lady Samira Bawumia’s recent political comments.

In the said comments, Mrs. Bawumia is heard advising NPP delegates to ignore a “bitter, angry, and satisfied candidate,” who she implied did not mind even if the party landed in opposition.

In an interview on Okay FM on October 19, 2023, Lawyer Agyapong was questioned about why Kennedy’s camp attributed the Second Lady’s speech to themselves, even though she did not mention anybody by name.

He insisted that the candidate in question was indeed Kennedy Agyapong, and as a result, the Second Lady’s remarks were directed at him. He further stated that her comments were insulting to the delegates in the Ashanti region.

“We have taken her speech upon ourselves; do you know why? In this life, everyone wants a fool to play with but nobody is willing to give birth to a fool,” he said.

He clarified that the Second Lady’s extravagant lifestyle appeared to be an attempt to mislead the ordinary polling station delegates who were grappling with challenges and often relied on Kennedy Agyapong for assistance.

Furthermore, he emphasised that Kennedy had been utilising his resources to address the country’s needs and the well-being of its citizens.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPE9bQ_-RHY

Ralph Agyapong also drew attention to what he described as the opulence of the Second Lady’s attire during the event where she delivered these comments, insinuating that it was more costly than the recent donation made by her husband, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to flood victims in the country.

“This is the Second Lady who is in the Ashanti region and telling the polling station executives and coordinators about someone she claims to be bitter, angry, and satisfied.

“When God blessed him, he didn’t spend the money; rather, he is using it to build a Cardio Centre for 37 Military Hospital for the military.

“Go to the Okomfo Anokye Cancer Centre; he has donated money to them. When he had money, he didn’t use it to buy expensive bags to go and stand in front of polling station executives.

“The money she used to buy the said bag is more expensive than her husband’s donation to the flood victims. If you approach people with this kind of luxurious lifestyle and tell them this, what is more insulting than this? So, what the woman said, I believe it just came at the spot, that is how I see it,” he said.

He chastized Samira for telling the polling station executived about opposition and suffering when they are in fact already suffering even with their government in power.

“But yet you are living an opulent life and you appear before them and tell them that the person whose contribution to this country and party is unmatched by any of the aspirants is bitter and satisfied.”

Kennedy Agyapong will be vying for the flagbearer position, facing three other competitors, namely Dr. Bawumia, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimoh.

The NPP has scheduled November 4, 2023, as the date for selecting the next leader of the party, who will succeed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

  • Mourinho at Real Madrid again?

    Mourinho at Real Madrid again?

Real Madrid is reportedly considering Jose Mourinho as a potential replacement for Carlo Ancelotti, who is expected to leave his position as head coach at the end of the season to take over as the Brazil national team boss.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Mourinho’s name has emerged as a favourite candidate to take over the coaching role at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Currently managing Roma, Mourinho is likely to part ways with the club when his contract expires this summer.

Ancelotti’s anticipated move to the Brazil national team is linked to his contract with Real Madrid expiring at the end of the season.

Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) president Ednaldo Rodrigues has confirmed that Ancelotti will replace Fernando Diniz in the summer.

Nevertheless, Mundo Deportivo’s report suggests that Ancelotti might consider extending his contract with Madrid if the club makes such an offer.

Mourinho has a history with Real Madrid, having previously served as the club’s manager for three years.

He joined the team after leading Inter to a European and Italian treble.

His tenure was marked by intense rivalries with Barcelona and Pep Guardiola, during which he secured one La Liga title in 2012 before departing a year later, citing it as the worst season of his career.

Ancelotti, who took over from Mourinho, is also expected to fulfil his contract with Real Madrid before making his next career move.

Arnold exposes MOGmusic over Grammy nominations post, social media descend on gospel artiste

MOGmusic’s social media post expressing gratitude to the Grammy Recording Academy after submitting his works for consideration has led to a discussion within the industry.

Some industry insiders have noted that his appreciative post may have given the impression to those unfamiliar with the GRAMMY nomination process that he has been nominated for this prestigious award.

On October 18, 2023, MOGmusic shared a captivating image featuring his joyful photograph alongside the iconic GRAMMY logo. The image displayed three GRAMMY categories: Best Gospel Album, Album of the Year, and Best New Artist, with MOGmusic’s name alongside his ‘Koinania Phase II’ album.

The flyer sighted online also bore the inscription, “For your GRAMMY consideration.”

In his tweet, MOGmusic mentioned the Grammy Recording Academy and said, “I want to express my gratitude to @RecordingAcad for this consideration. Ghana to the world. Africa to the world. The Gospel to the world.”

Upon seeing MOGmusic’s social media post, some of his followers flocked to the comment section to offer their congratulations, interpreting the wording in a way that led them to believe that the Ghanaian gospel musician had received a Grammy nomination, viewing it as a significant achievement.

The post and the subsequent reactions drew the attention of industry figures, who promptly clarified the misunderstanding.

They emphasized that MOGmusic’s action was solely to submit his works for potential nomination, rather than an actual nomination.

On his part, broadcaster and writer Ebenezer Donkoh (NYDJ) said, “How are we misinterpreting ‘For Your Consideration’ flyers as nominations? When you send an email with that title, what does that mean? Just like most award schemes, you need to submit your material for consideration.
“That’s exactly what a lot of artists around the world are doing at the moment, hoping their materials will be considered by The Recording Academy (Grammys) for the 2024 event. Submitting your work doesn’t even guarantee consideration.”

Event organiser Eric Toscar shared MOGmusic’s post, saying: “No need to express your gratitude, Bossu; you’ve not been considered yet. Express your gratitude after you’ve been considered, not when you’re looking for the consideration.”

    MOG Grammy

    Is MOGmusic in trouble?

The gospel musician, by using the GRAMMY logo, has erred, as the scheme prohibits the use of its trademarks in such artworks. As stated on the GRAMMY website, “Communications cannot include any Recording Academy trademarks, logo, or any other protected information. Logo use is reserved for paid Recording Academy sponsors or partners.”

Reacting to this in a separate post, Toscar said: “His FYC artwork actually disqualifies him and his recordings from being considered for GRAMMY Nominations.”

“Do you know you are NOT permitted to use the GRAMMY logo on your ‘For Your Consideration’ flyer? Everything about the Grammys has been made available on the Recording Academy’s website, but Bibini won’t read it,” NYDJ jabbed.”

Despite the ongoing conversation sparked by MOG music’s post, the gospel musician has left it untouched and continues to actively engage by retweeting and posting additional tweets.

Dortmund to give Man Utd’s estranged Sancho a second chance – Sources

Borussia Dortmund is reportedly considering offering Jadon Sancho an opportunity to depart Manchester United in January, as per a source cited by ESPN’s Rob Dawson.

Despite Dortmund’s public denial of interest in re-signing their former player following his fallout with United manager Erik ten Hag, an insider has indicated that the German side would be open to a January transfer if the financial terms align.

A short-term loan arrangement, extending until the end of the season, seems most likely.

However, Dortmund would require United to contribute a portion of Sancho’s £300,000-per-week salary.

Jadon Sancho, aged 23, is still held in high regard at Dortmund, having spent four years with the Bundesliga club from 2017 to 2021. He maintains a connection with coach Edin Terzic.

United is prepared to entertain offers for Sancho in the upcoming January transfer window, demonstrating the club’s support for Ten Hag’s commitment to squad discipline.

Atletico mulls over extending Molina’s contract

Nahuel Molina’s outstanding form for Atletico Madrid means that the La Liga club is already working on a new contract for the Argentina defender, according to Marca.

Molina, 25, is now viewed as “one of the top five right-backs in the world,” the newspaper reports, having been dismissed as a “whim” meant to placate coach Diego Simeone when he signed in July 2022.

According to Marca, a little over a year later, Atletico Madrid is now considering negotiations for an enhanced contract for Molina, recognising his role as an unquestioned starter and a World Cup champion.

This potential deal would involve a release clause exceeding his current €90 million, although both sides are still far from finalising an agreement.

Nobody “thinks of him, I mean nobody” – Inter CEO on Lukaku

Inter Milan, currently positioned second in Serie A with a two-point gap behind city rivals AC Milan after eight matches, has no intentions of engaging in the winter transfer market, as affirmed by club CEO Giuseppe Marotta.

“I don’t think so,” Marotta said when asked if Inter intended to sign players in the next transfer window. “But are we are Inter and we are always attentive to every situation.

“And I want to say one thing: before the players were reluctant to accept Inter, now many want to come; last summer we had to say no to a lot of them. [Marcus] Thuram, [Jan] Sommer and [Benjamin] Pavard chose us, it means that Inter are considered credible.”

During the summer transfer window, Inter sought to secure the services of Romelu Lukaku, who had previously spent the 2022–23 season on loan with the Nerazzurri from Chelsea.

Inter had been optimistic about extending his stay. Nevertheless, Lukaku opted to join Roma on a season-long loan from Chelsea instead.

Liverpool joins Chelsea, Arsenal in race for Osimhen signing

Liverpool has dispatched scouts to monitor Victor Osimhen, signalling their interest in the Napoli star.

This move sees Liverpool joining Chelsea and Arsenal in the pursuit of the talented forward, as reported by The Sun.

Jurgen Klopp reportedly instructed scouts to observe the 24-year-old during his international duties with Nigeria, where they faced Saudi Arabia and Mozambique.

The Liverpool manager is keen to have potential attacking options lined up for the January transfer window, particularly due to uncertainties surrounding Mohamed Salah’s future.

It’s worth noting that Liverpool is bracing for potential advances from Saudi Arabia, which tested the club’s resolve in the summer in their bid to retain Egyptian international Salah.

Salah has been a key player, tallying six goals and four assists in 10 appearances across all competitions this season, underscoring his significance to the club.

This underscores Liverpool’s need to have a strong replacement ready should Salah depart in January.

Nonetheless, securing Osimhen’s services won’t be a straightforward task.

While it appears he is on his way out of Napoli due to disagreements with manager Rudi Garcia and public ridicule by the club’s social media channels, competition from Arsenal and Chelsea adds complexity to the transfer equation.

The report suggests that Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, is eager to acquire a proven No. 9 to strengthen their squad as they aim for a renewed Premier League title challenge.

Meanwhile, Chelsea, which has struggled for goals this season, underscores their need for added firepower upfront.

In a recent interview with EVibes on Joy News, Kwabena Kwabena revealed that Asamoah Gyan is his all-time favourite Ghanaian footballer.

The ‘Aso’ hitmaker further disclosed that had he not pursued a career in music, he might have considered a path in football.

He added that he hopes to get a signed jersey from Asamoah Gyan, which he will place in his house and also create a catalogue for legends in the discipline.

National Cathedral Board: “I beg please resign” – Kwabena Marfo calls on Apostle Dr. Opoku Onyinah

Media personality Kwabena Marfo, from Peace FM, has urged Apostle Dr. Opoku Onyinah, who serves as the Chairman of the National Cathedral Board of Trustees, to consider resigning from his position.

Marfo’s request stems from his apprehensions regarding the National Cathedral project’s credibility and transparency. He also mentioned his deep respect for Apostle Onyinah’s standing within the Pentecost Church.

As a member of the Pentecostal faith himself, Marfo emphasised that Onyinah’s prior role as the church’s chairman significantly enhanced the church’s reputation.

Consequently, he believes that Onyinah should step down from the board to prevent any potential negative associations with the project.

Apostle Dr. Opoku Onyinah, I am a Pentecost member, and he is my apostle. He is someone that we don’t joke with because he is one apostle who lifted the church’s name,” he said, adding, “so we don’t joke with him at all. Please, Father, even if you do not have what to eat, the church will cater for your needs,” he said on Neat FM on October 18, 2023.

He described the project as “dubious” and pointed out that a considerable amount of information regarding the construction and funding of the cathedral remains unclear.

“Apostle Dr. Opoku Onyinah, I am begging you to please resign from the National Cathedral Board. From day one, the building of the National Cathedral was dubious, and because of that, most of the prominent people are resigning. So, Apostle Dr. Opoku Onyinah, don’t allow people to tarnish your image; resign from the board, or else you will be disgraced,” Marfo further urged.

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams and Reverend Eastwood Anaba have tendered their resignations from the Board of Trustees responsible for overseeing the construction of the National Cathedral in Ghana.

These esteemed clergymen have jointly requested an immediate halt to the construction of the National Cathedral, pending a thorough audit of the project.

In a joint statement signed by Archbishop Duncan-Williams and Reverend Anaba, they clarified that their decision to step down is a result of the government’s failure to engage an independent accounting firm to conduct an audit of all public funds contributed to the National Cathedral.

“Despite our prayers, best hopes and wishes, unfortunately, a needed audit to help restore public confidence and trust in this consequential project has not been enacted to the best of our knowledge.

“Since January 2023, we awaited news to no avail regarding the findings of the audit.

“We, therefore, regret that, as a matter of conscience and faith, we hereby submit to you our resignation from the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral.”

Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh is slated to be honoured with the title of “most dynamic minister” within the Akufo-Addo administration.

This accolade will be bestowed upon Dr. Prempeh by the Education and Management Training Foundation (EDMAT Foundation) on November 4, 2023, in recognition of his exceptional performance and leadership in the two ministries he has overseen during the current government’s tenure.

In an official statement signed by the Foundation’s Executive Director, Dr. Robert Okyne, the foundation commended the Minister’s remarkable achievements, particularly his instrumental role in the successful implementation of the groundbreaking Free Senior High School Policy.

“Indeed, we saw your massive transformation of the education sector with robust revitalization of education policies, among others”, the statement said.

The statement continued: “In your current position as Energy Minister, we have closely followed the successes being chalked by Dr. Prempeh. We are sure the President and in fact, Ghanaians are seeing you as the most dynamic Minister. You are the bulldozer and Mender.”

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has had a series of notable honours and recognitions.

In July of this year, he was honored by the University of Cape Coast, which conferred upon him a Doctor of Educational Leadership Degree.

This recognition was in acknowledgment of his exceptional achievements during his tenure as the Minister for Education.

Prior to this, both the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) and the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) had similarly recognized his contributions.

Additionally, Dr. Prempeh earned the distinction of being named the best Minister in 2019 and 2022. His exceptional leadership qualities were also celebrated with an honor from the Civil Service.

PL initiates secret probe into Everton’s alleged violations of financial regulations unbeknownst to club officials

Premier League is reportedly conducting a confidential inquiry into Everton’s alleged violations of financial regulations that could potentially lead to point deductions.

Everton faces charges from the Premier League for violating Financial Fair Play rules, as their cumulative losses over the years, amounting to nearly £372 million, greatly exceed the permitted threshold of £105 million.

According to the Daily Mail, an independent commission has been established to oversee the investigation, with Everton and the Premier League presenting their cases in closed-door proceedings.

While the Premier League may announce the decision next week, the tribunal is not bound by a specific timeline and could reveal the sanctions next month, which might include fines, a transfer embargo, or even a reduction in points.

These hearings are being conducted with the utmost confidentiality, with even senior officials at the clubs unaware of the proceedings.

However, Everton remains optimistic about being acquitted of the charges, citing various allowances granted during the COVID-19 pandemic.

If Everton is found guilty of breaching Financial Fair Play rules, Burnley, Leeds, and Leicester are prepared to take legal action against Everton, seeking a sum of £300 million.

This legal action could also impact Everton’s planned sale to 777 Partners.

The basis for the threat of legal action is that Everton narrowly avoided relegation last season, and any financial penalties resulting from rule violations would adversely affect these rival clubs.

President’s ‘you don’t vote for me’ remarks was just a “little joke” – Queen Mother of Mepe

Mamaga Adzo Srako IV, the Queen Mother of Mepe, has criticised the media for taking President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s recent remarks, made during his visit to console flood victims, out of context.

She expressed in an interview that the president’s statement, in which he humorously mentioned not receiving many votes from the region, was merely a light-hearted comment that the media sensationalised unnecessarily.

She went on to express her regret that the media’s focus on these minor remarks had overshadowed the real issue: the dire situation faced by the flood-stricken people, who are currently grappling with a severe humanitarian crisis.

“The president made promises that immediately he’ll see to us, and in the long term he’ll see to us. However, the little joke the president told, that if it were because of votes, he would not have come here, has rather become the news,” she lamented.

“That’s what you [the media] are circulating instead of talking about the disaster that has befallen us. You chose to rather make a big deal out of the harmless joke by the president,” she added.

“We were not pleased with you journalists,” she declared.

Addressing the matter of the floods and their potential short- to medium-term consequences, she conveyed her concern regarding the risk of a disease outbreak if specific measures were not promptly implemented.

“The flood waters are becoming dark; they’re becoming black; they’re becoming thick; they’re giving off a bad smell. This means it is seriously contaminated, harbouring disease and sickness.

“If we keep crossing these waters, we’ll be overtaken by diseases we cannot contain,” she warned.

She informed the media that “this morning, we spoke to the District Chief Executive—we need immediate action”.

The view of the Mepe Queen Mother is: “Either we get a road that will take us to the camp as they barricade the river, or they evacuate the people back into town so that they won’t have to be crossing all those waters again.”

“I need everybody here to understand, and I hope you take the message all across… that when these things happen and the government acts, politics does not come into the matter at all.

“When I took the oath of office as president, I took the oath of office as president for every single individual in Ghana, of all the people in Ghana, and of all districts.

“And whether they voted for me or not, once I have taken the oath of office, I am the president of all the people.

“So Togbe, I want the people here, beginning with you and the elders, to understand that when something like this happens and the government acts, the government is acting for Ghanaians, all Ghanaians.

“I came here because Ghanaians are having difficulties and suffering. And it is my responsibility to try and help.

Because if it is the question of counting who votes for me and who doesn’t vote for me, I shouldn’t be here because you don’t vote for me. But that is not my concern. And in any event, one day you would vote for me and my party.

So, Togbe, I came here this afternoon to express my sympathies and to commiserate with all the people in the Mepe area. I chose Mepe because this is the area that has been most affected”.

Hazard proves he’s still got sharp skills as he thrills many with clever flick in game with Kylian Mbappe’s dad

Despite his recent retirement, former Belgian forward Eden Hazard has proven that his footballing skills remain sharp.

He participated in a charity exhibition match alongside Kylian Mbappe’s father, Wilfried, and left a significant mark on the game.

Hazard, who announced his retirement following his departure from Real Madrid during the summer, demonstrated his prowess by notching a goal and providing two assists during the match.

Hazard played for Varietes CF against Team Calais and exhibited his trademark skills, setting up Wilfried Mbappe, the father of PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe, who seized the opportunity to score the sixth goal for his side.

The match included several other prominent figures, as Hazard partnered with Ludovic Giuly and Arsenal legend Robert Pires in the forward line.

The midfield featured renowned names like Didier Deschamps, Claude Puel, and Yohan Cabaye, while the defence was fortified by Christian Karembeu, former Bayern Munich defender Daniel Van Buyten, Laurent Blanc, and Mathieu Debuchy.

Guarding the goalposts was former German international and Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann.

The charity game managed to raise around £12,900, which will be dedicated to supporting children and teenagers at the Pieces Jaunes hospital.
