7 reasons why Wanlov the Kubolor would not vote for Kennedy Agyapong

Ghanaian artiste Wanlov the Kubolor has shared his reasons for not supporting presidential aspirant and MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong.

This response came following a Twitter poll by GhanaWeb on October 16, where social media users were asked to provide their reasons for not voting for Kennedy Agyapong as president.

The responses varied, with many highlighting his outspoken and controversial nature as well as his affiliation with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

On the other hand, some expressed their support for the aspirant, considering him a strong candidate for the presidency.

Wanlov the Kubolor chimed in on the conversation, providing his reasons for not endorsing Kennedy Agyapong. In his response to GhanaWeb’s post on Twitter, he listed specific actions for which he held the aspirant accountable.

Wanlov’s tweet stated, “said to kill Ewes; said Ghanaians from the north cannot lead the country; put a target on a journalist that got him murdered; behaves idiotic and petty; is tribalist; threatens judges; will be as bad as Akufu Addo, if not worse.”

These reasons prompted further discussion on the matter, with some users agreeing with Wanlov’s assertions while others questioned the accuracy of these claims. The aim was to verify the veracity of Kubolor’s claims and determine whether they were factual or personal opinions.

    1. Claims Ken said he would kill Ewes:

In an interview with Oman FM in 2012, Kennedy Agyapong allegedly made incendiary comments and suggested violence against Voltarians in the Ashanti Region.

He is quoted to have said: “Today I declare war on this country; Gbevlo-Lartey and his people, IGP, should know this. Voltarians in the Ashanti Region will not be spared. If anyone touches you, butcher him with a cutlass.”

However, the MP has indicated that he meant no harm with this statement. In June 2023, he clarified that the comment was in defence of New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters in the Volta Region who were allegedly being molested by some supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and not to incite hate against Ewes as purported.

    2. Northerners not fit to lead the country:

There is no reported instance of him making such a statement.

    3. Allegedly instigated the murder of a journalist:

Kennedy Agyapong publicly disclosed the identity of journalist Ahmed Suale, an investigative journalist with Tiger Eye PI, in 2018. Tragically, Suale was assassinated by unknown gunmen in January 2019.

    4. Behaves idiotic and petty:

This is a personal opinion expressed by Wanlov the Kubolor and may not be a widely accepted critique.

    5. Tribalist:

While there are allegations of tribalistic statements against Kennedy Agyapong, these remain claims and have not been definitively proven.

    6. Threatened judges:

In 2020, Kennedy Agyapong faced legal action when he publicly threatened a High Court judge during a live TV discussion on NET 2 TV. An apology was subsequently issued.

    7. Ken will be a bad president, if not worse than Akuffo Addo :
Also just a personal opinion or prediction and not to be taken as a fact.

  • Man Utd defender Gabby George to be sidelined for rest of season due to an ACL injury

Man Utd defender Gabby George to be sidelined for rest of season due to an ACL injury

Manchester United has officially announced that Gabby George sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury during their match against Leicester and will be sidelined for the remainder of the season.

The defender, who recently returned to United from Everton, had to leave the field in the ninth minute of the 1-1 draw with the Foxes at Leigh Sports Village last Sunday.

The 26-year-old underwent surgery on Tuesday morning, signalling an extended period of recovery and absence from play.

Red Devils boss Marc Skinner told MUTV: “It’s an ACL. There are different levels of ACLs. She goes in today for an operation.

“I would always put 12 months on this sort of injury. She could come back sooner but I would rather come back.

“That’s the sensible way to prepare, working backwards.

“We will support her and give her the best treatment and we will make sure that she comes back from that stronger and even better than she was before.”

Gabby George’s ACL injury is part of a concerning trend affecting the women’s game. United’s Emma Watson and Scotland’s Caroline Weir suffered ACL ruptures while on international duty last month.

Additionally, Arsenal’s Leah Williamson and Vivianne Miedema are currently sidelined due to ACL injuries, while Beth Mead recently made her comeback after an 11-month absence.

George’s absence will be felt as United prepares to face Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of their Women’s Champions League qualifying second-round tie on Wednesday night.

The first leg between these European rivals ended in a 1-1 draw, with Mevline Malard equalising Tabitha Chawinga’s opener.

Ahead of the game at the Parc des Princes, Skinner added, “I asked Gabby if there was anything we could do and she said, ‘Can you win in Paris?’ and we will certainly try our best.

“It’s going to be two really good teams going against each other.

“I think it will be a wonderful moment. I really want to win it for our fans because I’d love to give them a European tour.”

Brussels shooting leads to the abandonment of Belgium vs. Sweden match

Euro 2024 qualifier clash between Belgium and Sweden faced a halftime suspension due to security concerns after two Swedish individuals were tragically shot in Brussels before the match.

The score was level at 1-1 when the decision was made to halt the game at King Baudouin Stadium. Swedish fans were advised to stay in the stadium for security reasons in the aftermath of the game’s abandonment.

A statement from UEFA read: “Following a suspected terrorist attack in Brussels this evening, it has been decided, after consultation with the two teams and the local police authorities, that the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying match between Belgium and Sweden is abandoned. Further communication will be made in due course.”

A Swedish FA social media post said: “Message to Swedish supporters on site in Brussels: The Belgian police want Swedish supporters to stay in the arena for security reasons.

“Take part in information from officials, authorities and SvFF (Swedish Football Association) staff on site.

“We will return when the Belgian authorities provide us with new information. Keep calm and take care of each other. Our thoughts go out to all the relatives of those affected in Brussels.”

Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo wrote on X: “My deepest condolences to the relatives of this cowardly attack in Brussels.

“I am closely following the situation, together with the Ministers of Justice and Home Affairs from Crisis Centre, Belgium.

“We are monitoring the situation and asking the people of Brussels to be vigilant.”

He added: “I have just offered my sincere condolences to the Swedish PM following tonight’s harrowing attack on Swedish citizens in Brussels.

“Our thoughts are with the families and friends who lost their loved ones.

“As close partners, the fight against terrorism is a joint one.”

  • Meet the 3 players who may be Black Stars ‘headache’ in the Black Stars-USA friendlies

Meet the 3 players who may be Black Stars ‘headache’ in the Black Stars-USA friendlies

Black Stars are presented with an opportunity for redemption as they face the United States of America on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.

Their lacklustre performance against Mexico on the eve of Sunday, October 15, 2023, resulting in a 2-0 loss, now offers Chris Hughton’s team a chance to rectify their play and close the October international break with a victory.

To achieve this, Ghana will need to deliver one of their most outstanding performances in recent times, as they are up against a formidable American team that boasts several players of notable quality. Three players have been left out of the squad.

There are those who are likely to pose a challenge for Ghana on Wednesday morning.

Yunus Musah, the 20-year-old AC Milan midfielder, had the option to represent Ghana, Italy, or even England, given his family’s heritage, but he chose to don the United States of America jersey.

Musah has been in excellent form since joining AC Milan and is in prime condition for the upcoming match against the Black Stars. Making his debut in 2020, Musah has become a constant presence on the US national team and will be highly motivated to showcase his skills against Ghana.

“It’s definitely emotional to be playing against the country where my parents are from,” Musah said. “It’s special for them as well to see their son play against Ghana. And it’s going to be fun for me.”

    Christian Pulisic

Ghana is presently grappling with a shortage of defensive options as a result of injuries to key players.

In the upcoming match against the United States of America, whoever is chosen to play as the left-back will face a formidable challenge, given that Christian Pulisic is expected to be positioned on the right flank.

As an AC Milan forward, Pulisic has experienced a resurgence in Italy and enters this game with a considerable amount of confidence. His speed, skill, and scoring ability are attributes that will likely shine through in the match.

    Folarin Balogun

Like Musah, Balogun could have played for Nigeria or England but instead went with the United States of America.

Since making his debut in 2022, he has scored almost half of the goals scored by the UMNT and the defence of the Black Stars will have to stay alert to deal with his excellent movements.

  • Jonny Evans contemplated retiring before making his return to Man Utd

Jonny Evans contemplated retiring before making his return to Man Utd

At the age of 35, Northern Ireland defender Jonny Evans found himself confronting the very real possibility that his career might be drawing to a close.

This reckoning came as a result of a string of injuries that had plagued him in the previous year. However, it was his former club, Manchester United, that threw him a lifeline.

Evans had been grappling with persistent calf injuries during his tenure at Leicester City, and when the club faced relegation from the Premier League at the end of the last season, they decided to release him.

In a surprising turn of events, Manchester United offered him a short-term contract on transfer deadline day.

Since rejoining the club, he has already made four appearances, including being in the starting lineup for league victories against Burnley and Brentford.

“I think I went through a stage last year where you start thinking, ‘maybe this is it coming to an end,’” Evans told reporters ahead of Northern Ireland’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Slovenia later on Tuesday.

“I couldn’t get over the injuries, and every time I came back I was breaking down. I had a lot of people say, ‘there’s no way you’re close to finishing’, but you have to prove that to yourself and I feel I’ve been able to do that.

“I’ve trained a lot, getting all that behind me, completing matches,” added Evans, who came through United’s academy and played over 190 times for the club in his first stint between 2006-2015, winning three Premier League titles.

“Every time you complete a match you think, ‘there’s another one down’. Sometimes you’re having to confirm that to yourself and I’ve been pleased I’ve been able to go through that process. I feel I’m in a good place.”

United are 10th in the Premier League and face bottom club Sheffield United on Saturday.

Euro 2024 qualifier: Brussels Police kill attacker who killed two Sweden fans

Police in Brussels have shot dead a man who fatally shot two Swedish nationals ahead of a Euro 2024 qualifier in the Belgian capital.

According to reports, including those from the BBC, 45-year-old Abdesalem Lassoued was located and shot by law enforcement officers at a cafe in the Schaerbeek neighborhood.

As a result of the shocking incident involving the two Swedish supporters on Monday evening, panicked fans were reportedly kept inside the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels until 4 a.m.

The match between Belgium and Sweden was abandoned at halftime when those present at the venue were made aware of the unfortunate events that had occurred in Brussels city centre just before the game was scheduled to begin.

Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo has asserted that the victims of the attack were specifically targeted due to their nationality.

He said, “The perpetrator targeted specifically Swedish supporters who were in Brussels to attend the match against Belgium.

“Two Swedish fans have passed away. A third person is recovering from severe injuries.”

According to the Daily Mail, those in attendance at the King Baudouin Stadium were contained through to the early hours of Tuesday morning as investigations into exactly what went on and why were opened.

Reims manager Will Still, who was born in Belgium to English parents, was among those inside the ground when it was locked down.

He told BFMTV while being advised not to head back out onto the streets: “We are still locked in the stadium, with no exit allowed. It’s a bit of a blur for everyone.”

Players and match officials were also held inside the ground, with Manchester United and Sweden defender Victor Lindelof supporting the decision to only allow spectators to leave once armed police were on hand to escort them through the doors.

He said, “Our security team handled it well and put us at ease.

“Belgium is already qualified and we don’t have the opportunity to get to the European Championship, so I see no reason to play.”

Sweden head coach Janne Andersson revealed that he and his players had asked for the match to be abandoned, saying: “When I came down for the break, I got this information. Immediately, I felt that it was completely unreal. What kind of world do we live in today?

“I came into the locker room and when the team started talking, we agreed 100 percent that we didn’t want to play on out of respect for the victims and their families.”

  • Real Madrid may part ways with Rodrygo – Reports

Real Madrid may part ways with Rodrygo – Reports

Reports from Sport suggest that Real Madrid is considering the possibility of offloading winger Rodrygo as they look to enhance their attacking options.

Despite being a Brazil international, Rodrygo has only managed to contribute one goal and one assist in 11 games this season, which has left his future at Real Madrid uncertain.

While there is no question about the 22-year-old’s abilities, the La Liga club is eager to further bolster their forward line, potentially putting Rodrygo’s place at the Santiago Bernabéu in jeopardy.

Additionally, Real Madrid has not responded positively to Rodrygo’s recent comments expressing his dissatisfaction with being deployed as a striker.

He reportedly said from national team camp this week: “I’ve always made it clear that I have a knack for playing on the wings; I simply don’t like playing as a No. 9, although at my club I have to do it. Here in the national team, I have the freedom to move all over the field, which has helped my game.”

In July 2024, Real Madrid is poised to secure the services of the promising Brazilian talent, Endrick, for a substantial €72 million.

This acquisition is set to bolster Real Madrid’s attacking options under the management of Carlo Ancelotti.

Additionally, the club remains keen on finalising a transfer for Kylian Mbappé, the Paris Saint-Germain forward, whose contract with the French champions expires at the end of the season.

Despite reports indicating PSG’s interest in extending Mbappé’s contract, progress on this front has been limited.

Furthermore, the report suggests that Real Madrid is still keeping an eye on striker Erling Haaland, even as Manchester City actively works on securing him a new, extended contract.

Real Madrid may consider parting ways with Rodrygo, a move that could potentially yield a significant transfer fee.

This prospect represents an appealing option for the club, which may be in a position to offload the winger in the near future.

CR7 still in form as he marks 127 international goals in another resounding victory for Portugal

Cristiano Ronaldo remains in excellent form, as evidenced by his recent achievement of reaching 127 international goals in another impressive victory for Portugal during the Euro 2024 qualification campaign.

Despite their prior triumph in the 2016 tournament, Portugal has already secured their spots for the upcoming summer competition in Germany.

Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or recipient, continues to defy his age by setting an extraordinary example on the field.

At 38 years of age, he has now amassed 200 appearances for his national team, further solidifying his status as a record-breaking goal scorer in men’s international football.

In a commanding performance on Monday, Portugal defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 5-0, with Ronaldo contributing two more goals to his remarkable tally.

    CR7

Reacting to that success on social media, Ronaldo has said, “Another win and great play by the whole team. First place in the group is guaranteed! We are still going strong!”

Ronaldo’s exceptional form extends to his club performance this season, as he has notched an impressive 17 goals in as many appearances for Al-Nassr, a Saudi Arabian team.

Reports suggest that this football legend is eager to extend his extraordinary career, both at the domestic and international levels, with the goal of participating in the 2026 World Cup finals.

  • “Leave him alone” – Argentina coach upset over Messi’s retirement questions

“Leave him alone” – Argentina coach upset over Messi’s retirement questions

Lionel Scaloni is growing increasingly weary of the persistent questions about Lionel Messi’s retirement plans, even though the football legend is still very active in the game.

At 36 years old, Messi, a seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, continues to defy age and show no signs of slowing down, much like his eternal rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

His remarkable performances were instrumental in leading Argentina to a World Cup victory in Qatar in 2022, and he is widely expected to secure his eighth Golden Ball award in 2023.

Messi has seamlessly transitioned to the United States, making an immediate impact with MLS side Inter Miami. He remains a pivotal figure for his national team as they prepare for the 2024 Copa America, with their focus currently on the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Albiceleste boss Scaloni sees no need to consider what will happen when Messi hangs up his boots, with that day seemingly still some way off for now. He said when quizzed on that subject once again, “Let’s keep in mind that he is still here. What a way to think about ‘when he is gone.’ The truth is that he is still active; let’s leave him alone. Are we already retiring him? We commit hara-kiri; we are all crazy.”

Messi has been nursing an injury of late, limiting his game time at club level, but he stepped off the bench in Argentina’s 1-0 win over Paraguay last time out and is in contention to figure against Peru on Tuesday. Scaloni added, “Leo is fine. He has been adding minutes of training.

“We will make the decision. It’s a matter of minutes to see how much he can play. If he’s well, you know what I think, he will play. We always try to play those that are at 100 percent or close to 100 percent.

“It is very difficult for everyone to be at their best in these games so there may be a variation with respect to the game against Paraguay.”

  • Act of kindness or appreciation? Abedi Pele gifted Randy Abbey a wristwatch at 2006 World Cup

Act of kindness or appreciation? Abedi Pele gifted Randy Abbey a wristwatch at 2006 World Cup

Former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association, Dr. Randy Abbey, shared a remarkable story about the legendary Abedi Pele presenting him with a wristwatch during the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

This act of kindness left an indelible mark on Dr. Randy Abbey, and he emphasised that he will always remember it.

Dr. Randy Abbey recounted that Abedi Pele’s gesture was prompted by his response to a journalist’s inquiry regarding the then-controversial matter of John Paintsil raising an Israeli flag during the tournament.

Following Ghana’s 2-0 victory over the United States of America, Paintsil inadvertently found himself in international hot water after celebrating with the flag. His action was interpreted as a potential political statement in support of Israel in its ongoing conflict with Palestine.

Dr. Randy Abbey, however, succeeded in defusing the situation during the post-match press conference by explaining that Paintsil’s actions were unintentional and that he was unaware of the potential repercussions.

Abedi Pele was so impressed and delighted by Dr. Randy Abbey’s response that he gifted him the wristwatch as a token of appreciation. This incident left a lasting impression on Dr. Randy Abbey.

“He (Abedi Pele) did something for me at the 2006 World Cup and I will never forget it. The John Paintsil incident, where he took out the Israeli flag, became a big issue. At the presser, one international journalist raised it and I was the spokesperson for the Ghana Football Association.

“My response was that this is a player who doesn’t understand international geopolitics and does not understand the implications of what he was doing. He plays in Israel and since Israel was not at the World Cup, he thought that his fans and people in Israel ought to be acknowledged. That killed the issue.

“He (Abedi) came to the team hotel later in the day with Anthony Yeboah and he met me. In the course of the conversation, the issue of the presser came up. Abedi Pele took out his wristwatch and gave it to me as a gift,” he said.

    About the John Paintsil incident

Former Ghanaian defender John Paintsil found himself embroiled in an unexpected controversy during the 2006 FIFA World Cup when he hoisted an Israeli flag after a match against the United States of America.

This incident, which occurred on June 17, 2006, stemmed from an emotional moment following Ghana’s surprising 2-0 victory over the Czech Republic.

At the time, Paintsil was playing for the Israeli club Hapoel Tel Aviv. After the match, he sprinted onto the pitch with the Israeli flag and enthusiastically waved it to the crowd.

Although Paintsil’s actions upset some Arabs, who interpreted it as a provocation, his impromptu gesture was not intended to be political but rather a symbol of unity and gratitude.

Subsequently, Paintsil offered an apology for raising the Israeli flag, clarifying that he had no intention of causing offence. He explained that his actions were a display of appreciation for the support he had received from his club, Hapoel Tel Aviv, and its fans.

The misunderstanding was eventually resolved, and FIFA did not take any disciplinary action against John Paintsil.

The misunderstanding was eventually cleared up, and John Paintsil was not subject to any disciplinary action from FIFA.

‘Terrible and an eyesore’ – Randy Abbey rails about state of Aliu Mahama Stadium frontage

Ghanaian sports administrator Dr. Randy Abbey has voiced his disappointment regarding the condition of the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.

The stadium, which underwent renovations in 2017 and was subsequently renamed in honour of the late former Vice President of Ghana, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, has now deteriorated significantly.

Randy Abbey, who was in Tamale for the Ghana Football Association’s elections, expressed his dismay at the stadium’s frontage, which he characterised as “extremely dirty.”

“I saw something and it really was an eyesore,” Randy Abbey said on his Good Morning Ghana show.

“Driving on the Aliu Mahama Stadium Road, I saw the frontage; it looks so extremely dirty. For an edifice like that cited on the main road, just use white paint to make the thing look good, even if the interiors are bad.

“Driving past the place it should occur to somebody that at least the frontage of the stadium should look good. What I saw was terrible,” Randy Abbey who won his re-election as a GFA ExCo member said.

Constructed in 2007, the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium is one of the venues that accommodated the 2008 AFCON and serves as the home ground for Ghana Premier League clubs Tamale City and Real Tamale United.

During the GFA elections conducted on October 5, 2023, Dr. Randy Abbey successfully secured his position on the Executive Council, amassing 12 votes, which was the highest count among the Premier League candidates.

  • “Dismayed” SWAG blast assault on the US-based Ghanaian journalist

“Dismayed” SWAG blast assault on the US-based Ghanaian journalist

Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has issued a strong condemnation of the assault on respected sports journalist Seidu Adamu by a member of the Black Stars’ security detail.

Seidu Adamu, a US-based journalist who covered Ghana’s friendly match against Mexico, was reportedly attacked by a member of the Black Stars’ security team at the team’s base in the United States of America.

In a statement released on Monday, October 16, 2023, SWAG provided a detailed account of the incident, labelling it as an unprovoked attack that occurred in the hotel lobby.

“The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has condemned an assault on Ghanaian sports journalist and a member of the association, Mr Seidu Adamu, by one of the security details of the Black Stars at the team’s camp in the United States of America (USA) prior to Ghana’s international friendly match with Mexico last Saturday.

SWAG is dismayed by the unprovoked assault on Mr. Adamu by the overzealous security guard, Aziz Yaro, in the team’s hotel lobby.

The statement further outlined how Kurt Okraku, the head of the GFA, and Adamu held discussions before the attack.

“Ironically, the reported incident occurred several minutes after the victim had exchanged pleasantries with leading officials of the Ghana Football Association, including the FA’s President, Mr Kurt Simeon-Okraku, and the General Secretary, Mr Prosper Harrison Addo, in the presence of other Ghanaian journalists.

SWAG also indicated that its president, Kwabena Yeboah, informed the FA leaders about what had happened and also demanded that the culprit be dealt with, including an apology to Adamu.

“Following the incident, SWAG President, Mr Kwabena Yeboah, promptly engaged with some members of the FA’s leadership to voice his strong protest against the official’s actions and seek an amicable resolution to the case. Mr Yeboah also took the opportunity to emphasise the need for the FA leadership to hold their errant official accountable, given that he had previously been implicated in similar acts of aggression towards journalists in the course of their duties.”

“While the attack on Mr Adamu is unacceptable, SWAG is encouraged that the GFA President and General Secretary took the matter seriously and directed Mr Aziz Yaro to issue a personal apology to Mr Adamu in full view of the officials at the team’s camp.”

In a social media post, Seidu Adamu revealed that he had reported the incident to the Barclay Down Police Department in Charlotte, North Carolina. He expressed his appreciation for the individuals who had contacted him following the incident, which had garnered condemnation from the majority of journalists.

“Thank you is not enough to all those who reached out to me after my unprovoked attack by the Security detailed to the Black Stars of Ghana. your calls, texts, and comments have been a strength to me.

“For me, it was a normal day to cover activities of the national team, but individually or collectively, the people around the Black Stars had a different idea.

“At this moment, I cannot say the attack on me was planned by the top hierarchy of the Ghana FA or a singular act of senseless Bravado from my attacker, whom I identified as AZIZ.

“Since the Leadership of the Ghana FA cannot guarantee my safety in and around the National Team, I have taken the hard decision to return to my base and not make the journey to Tennessee where the Black Stars are due to play the US Men’s National Team”, he said on social media.

Every coach would want to have a Bruno Fernandes – Portugal coach Roberto Martinez

Bruno Fernandes has been referred to as a “dream” player for any manager, according to Portugal coach Roberto Martinez.

The captain of Manchester United has seven assists, which is the highest in the Euro 2024 qualifying round.

With three games remaining, Fernandes has also scored three goals to assist Portugal in advancing to Euro 2024.

Martinez said: “A player who has seven assists is an intelligent player, one that adapts to the qualities of his teammates and offers a lot of tactical flexibility. For a coach, Bruno Fernandes is a dream.

All he needs is training to get an idea of the game and the execution is of a high level.

“He has a vision that is of superlative quality and then I really like his work without the ball. He has adapted to many positions and provides structure and balance. He is a key player for us.”

Barcelona’s Putellas sets new club scoring record, surpasses Hermoso

Alexia Putellas, in Barcelona Femení’s 1-0 Liga F victory over Atlético Madrid on Sunday, became the club’s all-time leading scorer, surpassing Jenni Hermoso.

The 29-year-old Putellas achieved this milestone with her goal in the 51st minute, which came from a cross by Patri Guijarro. This goal took her total to 182 in 404 appearances for the club.

“It is a privilege and an honour to move past my [Spain] teammate Jenni. It was a pleasure to play with her at this club.”

Alexia Putellas, who now plays club football in Mexico with Pachuca, recently claimed the title of Barcelona Femení’s all-time top scorer, surpassing Jenni Hermoso’s previous record of 181 goals.

Hermoso achieved this record in two separate stints with Barça, spanning from 2013 to 2017 and 2019 to 2022.

In their recent game against Atlético Madrid, Barça dominated the first half but couldn’t create significant challenges for Atlético’s goalkeeper, Lola Gallardo.

Patri Guijarro came close to scoring early in the second half, but Gallardo managed to tip her effort around the post just moments before she assisted Putellas in opening the scoring.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QfVWWnoIvY

Substitutes Salma Paralluelo and Asisat Oshoala had opportunities to add a second goal, while goalkeeper Cata Coll made crucial saves from Sheila García and Leicy Santos late in the game as Barcelona maintained their perfect record with five victories in five Liga F matches this season.

Barcelona shares the top spot on the table with Real Madrid, both with 15 points, while Atlético now trails by five points after suffering their first defeat of the campaign.

Putellas’ match-winning goal marked her third goal in as many games as she continues her recovery from an ACL injury.

Despite missing almost the entirety of the previous season, she represented Spain at the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Her match fitness was understandably lacking, but back at Barça, coach Jonatan Giráldez has deployed Putellas as a false nine this season, and the two-time Ballon d’Or winner is displaying signs of returning to her peak form.

Putellas initially joined Barça in 2012 after spending a year at the Catalan club as a youth player. Over the years, she has accumulated over 400 appearances for the club, securing seven league titles, two Champions League titles, and numerous other team and individual honors.

In a thrilling comeback for her club, she made an appearance in the 88th minute against Aston Villa, contributing to her team’s remarkable turnaround from a 1-0 deficit to secure a 2-1 victory.

Looking ahead, Sarina Wiegman is set to announce her England squad on Tuesday for the upcoming Nations League double-header against Belgium at the end of the month.

Mead remains hopeful that she “gets a chance” to be included in the squad.

“Unfortunately, I am not a mind reader; I don’t know where her [Wiegman’s] brain is at the moment,” Mead said. “I am ready to compete. If Sarina thinks so or not is a different story. But in my own head, I am ready to compete.”

Mead described the reception from the Arsenal fans at the Emirates as “pretty incredible” as she marked her return after rupturing an anterior cruciate ligament in November 2022 with an assist for Alessio Russo. “It’s been a long, long time coming,” she said. “There have been a lot of hard days and a lot of good days. I think, ultimately, you want to do your job; you want to do something you love, and that had been taken away for such a long time.”

Mead said she was hopeful that Arsenal could do something “special” this season with the new additions that they have made to the squad: “Me and Less [Russo] have had the chance to play together a little bit. I think it was nice that we got that chance to link up and it got the winner. I am excited to try and break back into the team and compete for a position again.”

Arsenal have eight players vying for the forward positions after the summer arrival of Cloé Lacasse, adding to options including Vivianne Miedema, who is out injured, Lina Hurtig and Stina Blackstenius.

Mead said the intensity of training is “incredible” and ultimately will help the team improve after a poor start to the season. Arsenal went out of the Champions League at the qualifying stage and took one point from their first two WSL games.

“We are being competitive, working each other really, really hard,” Mead said. “To get on that pitch, you need to be playing well, and ultimately that’ll help the team. You could see the talent that came on the pitch for us today. You have game changers and players [off the bench] changed the game [against Villa].”

Page “couldn’t be any more proud” of after Wales sank Croatia in 2-0 win

Rob Page was filled with pride as Wales rekindled their European Championship qualifying campaign with a 2-1 victory over Croatia.

Harry Wilson’s two goals secured the win for the Dragons, even though there were tense moments when Mario Pasalic scored for Croatia with 75 minutes on the clock.

Nonetheless, Wales held their ground and rose above Croatia to claim second place in Group D; both teams tied with 10 points. In the lead-up to Sunday’s match, questions swirled around Page’s future, but he expressed his satisfaction, saying, “From the first minute right to the 95th, we had to dig deep.”

“With the help of the supporters, we have made it another great night for the lads.

“The boys dug deep. Their attitude again in this camp has been incredible. I wish you guys could come in and see it.

“Everything’s okay. I can’t praise them enough. I think seven of them are not starting at their clubs, but they put the Welsh jersey on and they play like that. They want to come and they enjoy it.

“I couldn’t be any more proud of them. Actions speak louder than words.

“I’m sick and tired of having to keep coming on and talking about my future. Let’s just talk about the boys and the performances they have put in.

“I get emotional because I’m so proud of them and they deserve all the plaudits they are going to get. We can’t wait to meet up for the next game.”

Wales captain Ben Davies added, “It’s a big result for us. Our backs were against the wall and we knew what we had to do coming into the game.

“It’s a big night but it means nothing if we don’t back it up next month.”

Wales’ final two qualifiers in November will see them make a tricky trip to Armenia before a home clash with group leaders Turkey.

  • Inter Miami to go on a two-game tour in China

Inter Miami to go on a two-game tour in China

Inter Miami, led by Lionel Messi, revealed their plans for a two-game postseason tour of China.

Following the conclusion of their 2023 MLS campaign, which ends just over two weeks earlier, Inter Miami is scheduled to visit China to play against Chinese Super League teams Qingdao Hainiu FC and Chengdu Rongcheng on November 5 and 8, respectively.

“We’re very excited to continue to expand our club’s global reach, bringing our team to play in front of incredible fans across the globe,” Inter Miami chief business officer Xavier Asensi said.

“This is a special opportunity to share the passion as we reach new audiences and put ourselves on display in new places, and we’re looking forward to beginning this adventure.”

Miami, which was eliminated from playoff contention after a loss to FC Cincinnati in its most recent game, has two matchups against Charlotte FC remaining in the MLS regular season, at home on Wednesday and in Charlotte on Saturday.

Messi has played in only two of the team’s past seven MLS games because of a hamstring injury, but he did manage 35 minutes off the bench in the loss to Cincinnati and played 37 minutes for Argentina in its 1-0 FIFA World Cup qualifying win over Paraguay on Friday.

If healthy, the Argentine legend, who has scored 11 goals in his first season with Miami, will certainly be the main attraction for fans attending games on this two-game tour of China, whose national team has only appeared in one World Cup (2002).

The Chinese Super League has managed to attract a number of high-profile Brazilian signings over recent years, including Oscar, Hulk, Alex Teixeira and Paulinho, though many of those players have now moved on.

“This will be a great opportunity to continue building on our 2023 campaign, in which we achieved our first-ever trophy,” sporting director and chief soccer officer Chris Henderson said.

“We will take this as an opportunity to begin our preparations for 2024, as we look to build on last season and find more success moving forward.”

Miami, which secured victory in the Leagues Cup this August and, as a result, qualified for the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup, is scheduled to kick off the tour with a match at Qingdao Hainiu’s recently inaugurated 50,000-seat stadium, which opened its doors in April.

The team, under the leadership of Spanish coach Antonio Carreño, made a triumphant return to the Super League in 2023 after achieving successive promotions. They are currently in the 13th position among 16 teams, with three games left in the season.

As for Chengdu Rongcheng, this five-year-old club made impressive strides by earning promotions in three of its first four seasons, ultimately ascending to the Chinese top flight in 2022, where they finished fifth. At present, they hold the sixth position in the league standings.

Ten Hag’s place at Man Utd secured if Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s bid go through – Sources

British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe secures a deal to oversee the sporting side of Manchester United, Erik ten Hag will be assured of his place in the club’s plans according to reports.

Ratcliffe, the founder of INEOS, a chemicals company, is looking to acquire a 25% stake in the club through a £1.3 billion ($1.58 billion) investment.

Ratcliffe aims to have an influence on the football operations but, as per the source, any proposed changes will not involve replacing Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman led Manchester United to a third-place finish in the Premier League and secured the Carabao Cup in his first season as manager.

Despite a challenging start to the current campaign, with six losses in 11 games in all competitions, INEOS prefers to retain Ten Hag as the manager.

A crucial board meeting for Manchester United is scheduled for Thursday, during which a potential agreement with Ratcliffe and INEOS could be finalised.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is well aware that his bid to purchase a minority stake in Manchester United may not sit well with fans due to the continued ownership of the Glazer family within the club.

However, Ratcliffe harbours hopes that this initial 25% acquisition could pave the way for a potential full takeover down the road. In the interim, the Glazers will retain their majority ownership.

For many fans, there had been high hopes that the Glazers’ 18-year ownership of the club might come to an end when it was first announced in November that the American family was considering selling the club.

However, recent developments revealed that the single offer for 100% control of the club from Sheikh Jassim had been withdrawn. This Qatari businessman withdrew from the process, citing the Glazers’ “fanciful” valuation as a primary reason.

Sheikh Jassim’s final offer fell short of the Glazers’ asking price by about £1 billion, with a total worth of approximately £5 billion.

Should Ratcliffe’s bid be successful, he is expected to unveil ambitious plans for Manchester United’s future in an effort to ease any supporter unrest.

These plans are likely to encompass proposals for the redevelopment of Old Trafford, potentially increasing the stadium’s capacity from 76,000 to 90,000.

Ex Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike fumes over demolition exercise in Lagos State

Former Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike has expressed his support for individuals whose properties have been affected by the actions of the Lagos State government.

The Lagos State government has initiated a campaign to demolish illegal structures constructed along canals and waterways. This operation has led to the demolition of numerous properties situated along the Gedegede-Mobil road, Megamound Estate and Ikota drainage channels.

In an Instagram post, Emenike raised questions about why the Lagos government would choose to demolish properties that had previously received approval for construction.

He characterised this effort as “pure wickedness” and encouraged people from the Igbo community to consider investing in other states, including Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, and Enugu.

“THE SADNESS IS TOO MUCH AFTER GETTING APPROVAL FROM THE SAME LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT; THIS IS PURE WICKEDNESS.

“IGBOS ARE IN TROUBLE. BRING YOUR INVESTMENT BACK HOME, MY PEOPLE. WE HAVE ABIA STATE, IMO STATE, ANAMBRA STATE, ENUGUSTATE AND EBONYI STATE.”

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources has stated that the exercise is to curb the reoccurrence of erosion and flooding in the environment.

Kwasi Appiah to remain GFA Executive Council role despite alleged Sudan coaching job – Reports

Kwesi Appiah will not resign from his role as an Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), according to Joy Sports.

The 64-year-old was elected as a member of the Premier League representatives on the Executive Council during the 2023 Elective Congress in Tamale, a few days before his appointment as head coach of the Sudan national team.

Despite his role as an ExCO member and the head coach of Sudan, Appiah is also the Technical Director and a member of Asante Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee, constituted by the Asantehene.

Last week, reports emerged that the former Ghana coach would resign from his role but sources speaking to Joy Sports described the reports as “false and mischievous.

“The story is completely false because coach Kwasi Appiah is not resigning from the exco. It is a very mischievous story.

“The Sudan deal was on the table before he contested and won a seat on the GFA Executive Council, so why should he resign after he won the confidence of those who voted for him?

“Disregard all these false reports. Kwasi Appiah campaigned to football stakeholders and they were convinced by his plans to contribute to Ghana football in an administrative capacity after his contributions on the field as a player and a coach,” sources noted.

Appiah was unveiled as Sudan’s coach early this week and he’s hoping to lead the country to compete at the highest level of continental and global football.

He will be assisted by former Medeama SC and Dreams FC coaches, Ignatius Osei-Fosu and Fatau Dauda, as goalkeeper’s trainers.

Sudan failed to qualify for the African Nations Cup in Ivory Coast next year, and Appiah, renowned for building new teams from scratch, is expected to bring his experience to bear and build a new Sudanese team for the next international assignments.

He is expected to operate from Saudi Arabia anytime the Sudanese team has to be in camp for international assignments.

Kwesi Appiah will play his first game against Togo and DR Congo in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on November 13 and 20 respectively.

In between, Coach Kwesi Appiah will be in Ghana to play his roles as a member of the GFA Executive Council as well as a leading figure of Asante Kotoko’s IMC, having received the blessing of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to take up the Sudanese coaching job.

Black Stars bodyguard reportedly assaulted US-based Ghanaian journalist

US-based Ghanaian sports journalist, Seidu Adamu, allegedly experienced an assault at the hands of a member of the Black Stars’ security team while at the team’s base in the United States of America.

The incident has been verified by the former editor of 442GH, and the assailant has been identified as Aziz.

Seidu Adamu took to his social media platforms to announce that he had reported the incident to the Barclay Down Police Department in Charlotte, North Carolina.

He also expressed his appreciation for the support he received from those who reached out to him following the incident.

The assault has garnered widespread condemnation from the journalism community.

“Thank you is not enough for all those who reached out to me after my unprovoked attack by the security detailed to the Black Stars of Ghana. Your calls, texts, and comments have been a strength to me.

“For me, it was a normal day to cover the activities of the national team, but individually or collectively, the people around the Black Stars had a different idea.

“At this moment, I cannot say the attack on me was planned by the top hierarchy of the Ghana FA or a singular act of senseless bravado from my attacker, whom I identified as AZIZ.

“Since the leadership of the Ghana FA cannot guarantee my safety in and around the National Team, I have taken the hard decision to return to my base and not make the journey to Tennessee, where the Black Stars are due to play the US Men’s National Team”, he said on social media.

On Sunday, October 15, at the GEODIS Park Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee, the Black Stars suffered a 2-0 loss to Mexico.

Currently, the team is in preparation for their upcoming match against the United States of America, scheduled for Wednesday, October 18, 2023.

  • South Korea manager Klinsmann urges Lee of PSG to “work hard and fight”

South Korea manager Klinsmann urges Lee of PSG to “work hard and fight”

South Korea coach Jurgen Klinsmann has called on Lee Kang-in (22) to keep his feet on the ground as the Paris Saint-Germain playmaker continues his emergence as the country’s next great hope.

Lee was given a rousing reception when he scored twice for the Koreans in a 4-0 friendly win over Tunisia in Seoul on Friday, as he capped a month that also saw him help his country retain the gold medal at the Asian Games in China.

“It’s just a joy to work with him because he’s always in a good mood; he’s always smiling, but he’s also hungry,” Klinsmann said.

“This is what he needs to be. It’s not easy for Kang-in to stay hungry because here he’s getting treated like a pop star, which is not good because a pop star doesn’t score goals.

“He has to stay humble. He has to stay focused. He has to work hard and fight.”

Lee, who made a significant move to Spain to join Valencia’s academy as a young talent, has consistently been recognised as one of South Korea’s most promising prospects. He amassed 62 appearances for the La Liga team before transferring to Real Mallorca in 2021.

Notably, Lee participated in the World Cup finals last year, featuring in four matches, with three of them as substitutes. During the summer, he secured a 22 million-euro deal with Paris Saint-Germain.

Lee’s pivotal role in South Korea’s recent gold medal win at the Asian Games holds immense significance for his European career progression. This victory has also granted him an exemption from the mandatory military service in his home country.

“Every time he will come back to Korea, there will be I don’t know, how many people screaming for him,” Klinsmann said.

“When a club like Paris Saint-Germain takes a player from Korea, it means that it’s a very special player. Kang-in is hugely talented.

“He will now start to learn from top players in Paris what it means to play in the Champions League and also what it means to play under the pressure of winning titles.”

Trippier tips Bellingham as the game-changer for England

England’s defender Kieran Trippier has suggested that Jude Bellingham may be the key player who can make a difference for the team in their upcoming Euro 2024 qualifier against Italy.

Bellingham has been in outstanding form since his summer transfer to Real Madrid, netting an impressive 10 goals in his initial 10 starts across all competitions for his new club.

“He can be the difference,” Trippier told reporters. “At such a young age, with the maturity, the quality and the aggression he’s got, he’s frightening. It’s not a surprise at all, given the standards that he’s set in Madrid.

“You can see he’s playing with freedom and the players around him are going to make him even better. The scary thing is he’s only 20 years old.”
Trippier added that the England side had made “massive steps” since the 2018 World Cup.

“We lost in the Euros final but the most important thing is we’re progressing and doing very well,” Trippier said.

“We’ve got goals from all over the pitch and Jude, Madders [James Maddison], Bukayo [Saka], and Phil [Foden] are still young but can all change games in certain moments.”

Trippier also defended teammate Jordan Henderson, who was booed by England fans during Friday’s 1-0 friendly win over Australia after joining Saudi Arabian club Al Ettifaq earlier this year.

“For us as players, we stick together,” Trippier said.

“I see Hendo on a daily basis. He is an unbelievable character; he’s a leader — what he does for the team, playing or not playing.

“He’s an unbelievable person to have in the dressing room. He makes sure everyone trains properly. He sets standards.”

    Rodrygo rises to Neymar’s defense

Real Madrid forward Rodrygo has voiced his support for Neymar Jr., asserting that the Al Hilal player remains Brazil’s “main player.”

Neymar Jr. encountered an incident where a bag of popcorn was thrown at him from the stands following a 1-1 home draw with Venezuela on Thursday.

“It doesn’t change anything if he (Neymar) is 31 or not; he continues with the same quality as always,” Rodrygo said. “He remains our main player and he is very important. And off the field too.

“As much as they always say bad things about him, people who live closely with him know that he is totally different from the image that some people have of him.

“And because I have him as an idol, I’m often sad to see certain comments and to hear the things people say because he helps me a lot. He is always talking to me. Sometimes I’m at my club; he’s there in Arabia and he sends me a message. He says something positive to me. So that off-field advice influences us a lot and helps us a lot on the pitch.

“Of course, when we lose or draw a game, the responsibility will be greater on him but when we win, it becomes clear that he is our best player and we depend a lot on him.”

At this age and already in national team? That’s a “gem” – Carjaval lauds Barca’s Gavi

Despite being just 19 years old, Barcelona midfielder Gavi has earned the respect of his Spanish national team colleagues, with Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal being particularly vocal in his admiration.

Carvajal lauded the 19-year-old midfielder as a “gem” after his match-winning performance.

On October 6, Gavi made his debut for the Spanish national team under the management of Luis Enrique, becoming La Roja’s youngest-ever player until teammate Lamine Yamal broke that record.

Gavi is a regular starter for Barcelona and has contributed two goals and an assist in 11 appearances across all competitions this season.

In related news, Spain secured their spot in Euro 2024 with two games to spare in Group A, thanks to a 1-0 victory over Norway on October 15.

Barcelona midfielder Gavi played a pivotal role, scoring early in the second half and ensuring the 2008 and 2012 European champions’ qualification for the tournament in Germany next summer.

Spain’s victory also led to Scotland qualifying, while Norway, who last featured in a major tournament in Euro 2000, will have to rely on the play-offs for a chance.

Furthermore, Sports Brief reported on Spain’s triumph over Norway, effectively earning their spot in Euro 2024 in Germany with a 1-0 victory.

Gavi, the Barcelona star, scored the game’s solitary goal, securing the European Championship berth for the 2008 and 2012 champions, leaving their opponents with the task of seeking alternative avenues for qualification.

As a result of Norway’s loss to Spain, Scotland also secured their place in the tournament, with both nations tied on 15 points and two games remaining in the group.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe close to finalizing deal for a 25% ownership of Man Utd – Sources

British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe is on the verge of obtaining a significant stake in Manchester United, a move that would grant his INEOS team substantial “sporting influence” at Old Trafford, according to sources informed by ESPN.

An insider familiar with the negotiations informed ESPN that Ratcliffe exhibited a greater degree of strategic acumen in his approach compared to rival bidder Sheikh Jassim, a Qatari billionaire who withdrew his interest in purchasing Manchester United.

His withdrawal followed unsuccessful attempts to secure a complete takeover of the club from the Glazer family, the current American owners.

With Sheikh Jassim no longer in contention to acquire the 20-time English champions, Ratcliffe, the founder of the chemical company INEOS, is now poised to finalise a deal to procure a 25% share from the Glazers, who presently possess a 69% stake in the club.

The remaining shares are held by smaller investors on the New York Stock Exchange.

The remaining shares on the New York Stock Exchange are held by smaller investors.

As part of this arrangement, Ratcliffe, aged 70, is prepared to offer an above-market price in return for gaining control over specific decision-making powers, a privilege typically not associated with a minority investment.

According to an insider, Ratcliffe is willing to pay a sum ranging from £1.3 billion ($1.576 billion) to £1.5 billion ($1.82 billion) for this stake, even though Manchester United’s current market valuation hovers at approximately £2.6 billion.

This impending agreement, expected to be finalised as early as this week, ensures that the Glazers maintain their majority stake in the club.

Euro 2024 finals: Spain didn’t allow Haaland ‘receive any comfortable ball’ – Carvajal says

Dani Carvajal has disclosed the method by which Spain successfully subdued Erling Haaland during their victory over Norway, securing their qualification for the Euro 2024 finals in Germany.

Spain’s path to the finals was secured with an early second-half goal by Gavi.

Throughout the match, the visitors maintained a relatively secure hold on proceedings, with Norway, led by Haaland and Martin Odegaard, finding it challenging to generate scoring opportunities.

“We came here to win; we played a complete game,” Carvajal told Teledeporte. “They hardly gave us any chances and we are going home happy and with our ticket to the Euro.”

On keeping Haaland quiet, he added, “Defensively, from Unai [Simon] to Alvaro [Morata], we have been very compact; we have not allowed him to receive any comfortable ball. Praise the work of the centre-backs because they have done a fantastic job.”

Spain can take satisfaction in their comfortable qualification from a challenging group, despite the initial setback in Glasgow. Meanwhile, Norway’s promising generation of players must patiently await other results to determine if they can escape the all-too-familiar route of qualification through the playoffs.

Upon his return to Madrid, the right-back will find little time to settle in, as a demanding schedule awaits with three away fixtures against Sevilla, Braga, and Barcelona.

Henderson insists booing from England supporters ‘won’t change who I am’

Jordan Henderson acknowledges that it can be unsettling to face boos from “your own fans,” but the England international remains resolute in asserting that such jeers will not alter his core identity.

During the summer transfer window, the former Liverpool captain made a move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq, a decision that sparked controversy given his previous stance against contentious laws in the Middle East region.

Despite the mixed reception he received from sections of the Wembley crowd during England’s friendly match against Australia, where he captained the team, Henderson maintains his conviction in the face of criticism over his transfer choice.

He has said, “Everybody has their own opinion. I love playing for England; I have done so for many years. That’s why I’m still here. I still want to play for England for as long as I possibly can and give everything for the team and for my country. It’s not nice for your own fans if they were booing.

“But listen, people have their own opinions. Whenever I bump into anyone on the street, it’s always positive stuff and nice things said. But listen, it won’t change who I am or what I do for this team or for my country. I give absolutely everything every time.”

When pressed further on the reasons for the terrace taunts, experienced midfielder Henderson added, “Yeah, so… If people want to boo if I’m playing in a different country, that’s fine. Like I said, everyone is going to have an opinion over when I’m playing over in Saudi.

“I’ve spoken in the past about the reasons for that. Whether people believe us or not is up to them. But when I’m here with England, it doesn’t change anything. I give absolutely everything. Of course it’s disappointing, but it won’t change what I do here. I want to keep playing, keep fighting and help the team become successful.”

On Tuesday, England will return to the field as they host Italy, with Gareth Southgate’s team aiming to secure their spot in the upcoming European Championships in Germany next summer.

Balotelli flaunts the Champions League trophy in response to criticism from Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Mario Balotelli responded to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s criticism, following comments from his former Inter teammate, who accused him of wasting his talent.

Speaking at a festival organised by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Ibrahimovic said, “When a kid has the opportunities to make the most of his talent and does not take them, that is a pity.

Balotelli had so many opportunities and he missed all of them; he just threw his talent away. This is the truth.”

The Italian forward, currently playing for Turkish club Adana Demirspor, took to Instagram to share a photo of himself lifting the Champions League trophy from the 2009–10 season, a victory achieved during his time with Inter.

In his Instagram story, Balotelli tagged Ibrahimovic’s account, making it clear that his post was a direct response to Ibrahimovic’s criticism of him.

The Swedish star had previously commented that Balotelli had ‘thrown away’ his talent.

Balotelli’s post serves as his reaction to these comments, and it was a pointed reference to Ibrahimovic’s absence from the list of European champions despite his long and illustrious club career.

Balotelli, 33, has appeared in just two matches for Demirspor in the Turkish league this season.

Ibrahimovic, on the other hand, retired from professional football at the end of the 2022–23 campaign.

Joao Felix excited as Barca allegedly make plans to bid a permanent move from Atletico Madrid

Joao Felix has expressed his contentment with playing for Barcelona, amidst ongoing reports indicating a potential permanent signing by the Catalan club.

Since joining Barcelona on loan from Atletico Madrid on transfer deadline day, the Portuguese forward has been in excellent form. He has notched three goals and contributed as many assists in his eight appearances for the Catalan giants.

He openly shares his satisfaction with being a part of the club.

Speaking to reporters, Felix said, “As you can see, I’m happy where I am; I feel good and confident and I feel like I’m going through a good moment. The most difficult thing is to maintain a good level, something that I have not achieved for some time in recent seasons.

“But I work every day and I always try to improve to correct those less positive aspects of myself. And yes, I am happy and going through a good time.”

The current La Liga winners are allegedly planning a fair offer to deliver the striker to Atletico Madrid in order to sign him permanently next summer, according to a report from Sport.

The 23-year-old forward’s next appearance for Xavi’s team will come on October 22, when they take on Athletic Club in La Liga.

  • Ex-Barca boss Lluis Cortes rejects Morocco coaching job for Hermoso

Ex-Barca boss Lluis Cortes rejects Morocco coaching job for Hermoso

Lluis Cortes reportedly declined an offer to become Morocco’s new women’s head coach upon learning of Jorge Vilda’s involvement in the project.

Vilda, the former Spain national team manager, was appointed as the new head coach of Morocco shortly after being dismissed just 16 days after winning the World Cup.

Vilda’s departure was due to a controversy involving Luis Rubiales grabbing and kissing Captain Hermoso after the final.

Nevertheless, Vilda is now set for a new challenge with the Moroccan national team, which made its debut in the 2023 World Cup and reached the last-16 stage in Australia and New Zealand.

According to COPE, Cortes was initially offered the role before Vilda.

However, when he discovered that the former Spain boss would serve as the technical director for the nation’s youth teams on the recommendation of the RFEF, he decided to end negotiations.

Cortes, who guided Barcelona to a historic treble in 2021, didn’t want to be associated with Vilda, particularly in light of the incident involving his former player Hermoso.

After Cortes turned down the offer, the Moroccan federation appointed the World Cup-winning manager to the position.

Vilda is taking over from Reynald Pedros, who had been in charge since 2021.

Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly facing a sentence of 99 lashes in Iran on charges of adultery following an incident during his travels with Al-Nassr for an AFC Champions League match against Persepolis.

While in Iran, Ronaldo met with Iranian painter Fatima Hamami, who is paralysed and a dedicated fan of the football star.

During their meeting, Ronaldo received a painting from the artist and shared a hug, which has led to a criminal complaint in Iran.

In the country, physical contact with a woman who is not your spouse is considered adultery.

According to the report in Mundo Deportivo, several Iranian lawyers filed the complaint, resulting in a swift response from the judicial system, which sentenced the 38-year-old Ronaldo to 99 lashes.

While the sentence will not affect his current travels, if Al-Nassr progresses to the next round of the competition and faces a club from Iran, Ronaldo may be at risk of arrest and serving his sentence should he set foot in Iranian territory again.

We hope the GHC1m money promised us by the president comes really fast – Patrick Akoto

Current Ghana Premier League champions, Medeama SC, have not yet received the 1 million cedis promised by President Nana Dankwa Akufo-Addo following their victory in the 2022–23 Ghana Premier League.

The pledge of support was made when the club presented the league trophy to the President on August 2, 2023.

The presentation was led by Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Mines and Natural Resources, George Mireku Duker, who is also the Member of Parliament for Tarkwa.

The team was accompanied by chiefs from the Apinto Traditional Council, the club’s board chairman, Dr. Tony Aubynn, head coach Evans Augustine Adotey, as well as management and technical team members.

According to Patrick Akoto, the Communications Director for the club, Medeama SC has incurred significant costs in their journey, particularly due to their travels to Conakry to face AC Horoya and Remo Stars of Nigeria in the preliminary rounds of qualification for the ongoing 2023–24 CAF Champions League.

Despite these financial challenges, the club remains thankful to the President and remains optimistic that he will fulfill his promise to alleviate their expenses during future travels.

“We are grateful to the President for the support and pledge. He promised us 1 million cedis and we are still using diplomatic communication to ensure that we get it from the government.

“We are confident that the money will be delivered to us in no time. We are hopeful that it will come and come really rapid and fast”, he told GhanaWeb’s Sports check.

Akoto further emphasized that, as they progress into the group stages of the CAF Champions League and face a challenging path ahead, the club will require the support of corporate entities in Ghana.

In Group D, the team from Tarkwa will confront tough opposition, including the reigning African champions Al Ahly, the formidable CR Belouizdad from Algeria, and Tanzania’s Young Africans, as they strive to make their mark on the continental stage.

Cole Palmer to miss Arsenal clash following injury at England-Serbia clash

Cole Palmer’s availability for Chelsea’s match against Arsenal is in question due to an injury he sustained while playing for the England U-21 team.

The captain of the England U-21 squad suffered a thigh injury during their 9-1 victory over Serbia in a Euro qualifier. During the second half of the match, he reported a dead leg, which prompted manager Lee Carsley to substitute him.

“There are a few bumps and bruises and we will monitor Cole, but we will not be taking any chances,” Carsley told reporters after the match.
Cole Palmer has become a key player in Mauricio Pochettino’s team, and the Argentine manager is surely hoping for a swift recovery from his injury.

With Palmer in the lineup, Chelsea has achieved three consecutive wins, a notable improvement for the season. He even scored a goal in the 4-1 victory against Burnley, and Chelsea fans are eager to see him return to fitness before the crucial match against Arsenal.

To aid his recovery, Palmer will be absent from the upcoming Euro qualifier against Ukraine on Monday, with the aim of regaining fitness for the Premier League clash against Arsenal on October 21.

Scotland coach Steve Clark renders injury update on Liverpool defender Andy Robertson

Scotland’s manager, Steve Clarke, provided an injury update on Andy Robertson, the Liverpool defender, who sustained a shoulder injury during the match against Spain.

Robertson collided with Unai Simon during Scotland’s 2-0 loss to La Roja.

As he left the field, accompanied by two medical staff members, he improvised a sling to support his arm and was substituted by Nathan Patterson.

“Obviously, he hurt his shoulder. We’ll have a look and he (Robertson) will go back to his club now,” Clarke told reporters.

Robertson’s injury has put Scotland in a spot of bother as his backup, Real Sociedad’s Kieran Tierney, is also out nursing a hamstring injury.

“It always seems to happen when you lose one player in a position. We lose Kieran, then Andy picks up a shoulder injury. We’ll see how it is and how it settles down. Hopefully he’s good for his club as soon as possible and ready to help us in November,” Clarke added.

Robertson is set to sit out Scotland’s upcoming friendly against France on Tuesday, and there are doubts about his fitness for the upcoming Merseyside Derby against Everton at Anfield on October 21.

FIFA extends condolences to Israel and Palestine FAs

On Friday, FIFA president Gianni Infantino sent letters to the leaders of the Israel and Palestine Football Associations, offering his condolences for the “horrific violence” that has occurred in the past week, resulting in the loss of over 2,700 lives.

Infantino’s letter follows a similar expression of condolences from UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin, who wrote to the head of the IFA.

Hamas militants were responsible for the deaths of more than 1,300 Israelis in their attack on Saturday.

In response, Israeli airstrikes have led to the deaths of over 1,400 individuals in Gaza, as reported by local authorities there.

“I would like to express… our deepest condolences to the Israel Football Association and the Palestine Football Association, in light of the horrendous violence that has been occurring over the past days,” Infantino wrote.

“It is as heartbreaking as it is shocking to see a region whose people have known such profound suffering for far too long suffer even more.

“The footballing world stands firmly in solidarity with the people of Israel and Palestine and with all the innocent victims that have paid an unspeakable price.”

Neither FIFA nor UEFA, the governing body of European football, have released any statements in the media regarding the dispute. Aleksander Ceferin, president of UEFA, sent a letter of sympathy to the IFA chief as well.

“FIFA joins in calling for the immediate end of hostilities and for the immediate relief of the suffering of the people of both Israel and Palestine,” Infantino added.

“Of course, we know that football cannot solve the problems of the world, but it can play even a small part in bringing a light of hope where there appears to be only darkness ahead.”

Infantino also said that FIFA would offer assistance in relief efforts.

“It was a bad thing that Napoli did” – Nigeria coach slams club over Osimhen mockery video

Nigerian manager Jose Peseiro criticized Napoli for an unusual social media video that ridiculed Victor Osimhen for his missed penalty against Bologna.

Napoli’s TikTok video featuring Osimhen missing a penalty and accompanied by a high-pitched voice requesting, “Gimme penalty, please,” led to significant controversy, as did another clip where the striker was depicted as a coconut.

Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, threatened legal action against Napoli for posting the videos. In response, the Nigerian also deleted all references to the Partenopei from his Instagram account as a sign of protest.

Now, Super Eagles coach Peseiro has come down heavily on the Serie A champions.

“That video? From the club? From the outside, it is one thing but a video from the club is the worst. That cannot happen,” Peseiro told Sky Sports. “He was sad because it is not easy for anyone. He does not understand it. He does not understand why.”

He added: “Osimhen is a star. Two years ago, he was not a star. Now, he is a star. And when you are a star, everybody wants more, more, more. The others can do bad but if Osimhen does bad it is different because people demand more from the players who can do more. It was a bad thing that Napoli did. Of course, he would prefer they do not do it.”

Napoli released a statement to clarify that they did not mean to show disrespect to Osimhen, especially after the striker refrained from celebrating his goal against Udinese.

Nonetheless, the club did not issue an apology in their statement.

Nigeria is scheduled to play a friendly match against Saudi Arabia on Friday, followed by a match against Mozambique three days later.

FIFPRO,World Leagues Forum introduces new labour initiatives focused on health and safety

The global football players’ union, FIFPRO, and the World Leagues Forum introduced three new labour initiatives on Friday.

These initiatives aim to enhance and safeguard playing conditions within the framework of the Global Labour Agreement.

This announcement coincides with concerns regarding increased player workload and precedes significant expansions in football competitions, including the 2026 World Cup’s expansion from 32 to 48 teams, the Champions League’s growth from 32 clubs to 36 in the 2024–25 season, and the introduction of a 32-team Club World Cup in 2025.

The three initiatives will address workplace safety, health, and fair-play management, focusing on addressing challenges related to how the rules of the game impact the overall player experience and incidents of discrimination during matches.

Each initiative will establish committees with an equal number of representatives nominated by the World League Forum (WLF) and FIFPRO.

“The new labour initiatives represent our joint commitment to address the development of our competition and employment conditions through collective dialogue,” FIFPRO president David Aganzo said in a statement.

“The new working structures are marking a start and we are eager to address other issues that are relevant for the growth of leagues and players together.”

In September 2022, the WLF, which represents professional football leagues across the world, and FIFPRO signed the GLA, an international bargaining framework that follows the fundamental principles and rights at work.

Trent Alexander-Arnold teases James Maddison following an Instagram post

Trent Alexander-Arnold playfully teased James Maddison in response to their ongoing banter over Jurgen Klopp’s controversial replay suggestion following Luis Diaz’s disallowed goal due to VAR in a recent match.

Although Tottenham secured a 2-1 victory over Liverpool in a Premier League match, the outcome might have been different had Diaz’s early goal not been ruled out.

Liverpool’s manager, Jurgen Klopp, had jokingly proposed a replay of the match in light of the VAR controversy.

Despite Klopp later clarifying that his remarks were misinterpreted by the media, the incident became a source of light-hearted banter between the two England teammates, with Maddison poking fun at Alexander-Arnold.

The Spurs midfielder shared an Instagram story and captioned, “Still asking for a replay!”

In turn, Alexander-Arnold playfully got back at him, giving Maddison a taste of his own medicine during an interview with Channel 4.

Liverpool did secure a 3-0 victory over the Foxes on May 16 earlier this year. Alexander-Arnold contributed by scoring the third goal, following a first-half brace from Curtis Jones.

This defeat added to the challenges Leicester faced, ultimately resulting in their relegation to the Championship last season as they finished in the 18th position.

Maddison and Alexander-Arnold could potentially be playing against Australia in a friendly match with the England national team on Friday evening.

Phillips considering a Man City departure – Reports

Midfielder Kalvin Phillips is contemplating the possibility of leaving Manchester City in January, according to a source close to ESPN.

Phillips made the decision to stay and compete for his place in the team during the summer, even though he faced challenges breaking into Pep Guardiola’s squad during his first season at the Etihad.

However, the 27-year-old is beginning to lose confidence in his chances of becoming a regular player at City, especially after being overlooked for Premier League matches against Wolves and Arsenal while Rodri was serving a suspension.

Phillips was brought in for a £43 million transfer from Leeds United in 2022 with the intention of providing competition for Rodri.

However, with Rodri serving a ban for the matches at Molineux and the Emirates, Phillips found himself on the bench.

In the current season, he has only started one match, which ended in a 1-0 defeat to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup.

Throughout his City career, he has started only two Premier League games, both of which occurred at the conclusion of the previous season after Guardiola’s team had already secured the championship.

A source informed ESPN that Phillips is concerned that his opportunities will be limited between now and the January transfer window, particularly with Rodri’s availability and City’s exit from the Carabao Cup.

  • Neymar fumes after fan threw popcorn at him following Brazil-Venezuela stalemate

Neymar fumes after fan threw popcorn at him following Brazil-Venezuela stalemate

Neymar was escorted off the field by his fellow Brazil teammates after he was hit in the head by a box of popcorn thrown by a fan in the stands.

The Brazilian fans at the Arena Pantanal in Cuiaba expressed their disappointment with the national team’s performance with jeers, whistles, and, in the case of one individual, a box of popcorn hurled in Neymar’s direction as he made his way to the dressing room.

Struck by the popcorn box, Neymar looked into the crowd, confronted the presumed perpetrator, and pointed an accusatory finger in their direction.

This incident occurred at the end of a 2026 World Cup qualifier, where the Selecao had to settle for a disappointing 1-1 draw against Venezuela on their home turf.

In that match, Neymar had delivered the corner that allowed Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes to score the opening goal, but Eduard Bello managed an acrobatic equaliser for the visiting team.

It’s worth noting that despite becoming Brazil’s all-time leading goalscorer, surpassing the legendary Pele, Neymar has been struggling to find his top form since his summer transfer from PSG to Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal.
