  • Osimhen calls for “unity and respect” over Napoli mockery video and related reactions

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has finally spoken out about his situation at Napoli following recent events involving him and the club.

Osimhen faced mockery from Napoli’s official TikTok account after missing a penalty, and he was also referred to as a ‘Coconut’ in another video.

In response, he deleted nearly all of his Napoli-related posts on his Instagram account. This move garnered criticism from some fans who felt he had shown disrespect to the people of Naples.

On October 1, 2023, Osimhen issued an emotional statement in which he expressed his deep appreciation for the love he has received since joining Napoli in 2020. He called for unity and extended his gratitude to Nigerians and his loved ones who have supported him during these recent challenging days.

“Coming to the City of Naples in 2020 was a wonderful decision for me. The People of Napoli have shown me so much love and kindness, and I will not allow anyone to come between us”.

“The passion of the People of Naples fuels my fire to always play with my heart and soul, and the love for the badge is unwavering as I wear it with pride”.

“The accusations against People of Naples are untrue. I have a lot of friends that are Napolitans and have become part of my family and everyday life. I appreciate Nigerians and everyone for leading their voices to support and reach out to me”.

“I’m forever grateful. Let’s support unity, respect and understanding. FORZA NAPOLI SEMPRE.”

Amidst the mockery saga, he has scored in back-to-back games for Napoli, taking his goal tally to five goals in seven Serie A games.

  • Chocolate prices risk hike if cocoa harvest in Africa becomes a challenge

Chocolate prices could continue to rise if the new cocoa harvest in West Africa disappoints.

Cocoa prices have surged by approximately 47% in the past year due to concerns about adverse weather conditions and crop diseases affecting production in Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana, which together account for two-thirds of the world’s cocoa supply.

The potential impact of an El Nino weather phenomenon adds to these concerns, and analysts anticipate a third consecutive global shortage in the new season that has just begun.

This could result in continued inflation in the chocolate market, even as food prices overall stabilise.

Leading chocolate manufacturers like Hershey Co. and Lindt & Spruengli AG have already cautioned about the possibility of further price increases, and there are indications that higher prices are affecting demand in both Europe and the important growth market of Asia.

“The current situation is looking relatively dire unless there is a dramatic improvement in the outlook,” said Darren Stetzel, vice president of soft commodities for Asia at broker StoneX. “Further price increases could weigh on consumption.”

In mid-September, New York cocoa futures reached a 12-year peak, coming remarkably close to a price last observed in 1979, although they have slightly receded since then.

This surge in prices was primarily attributed to excessive rainfall and outbreaks of pests and diseases that afflicted cocoa crops in West Africa.

A crucial concern at the moment revolves around the size of the larger of the two annual cocoa harvests. This harvest has recently commenced in Ghana and is initiating in Cote d’Ivoire.

In light of adhering to cocoa traceability regulations imposed by the European Union, which imports 68% of Cote d’Ivoire’s cocoa beans, the sector will face ongoing challenges.

These challenges encompass issues such as the smuggling of produce and the impact of climate change. Yves Kone, the managing director of industry regulator Le Conseil Cafe-Cacao, underscored these challenges as areas of concern for the cocoa industry’s future.

“Climate change dangers threaten our cocoa,” Kone said at a ceremony in the capital, Abidjan, to usher in the new season. “The task will not be easy because we have the responsibility to maintain the cocoa in good production condition,” he said, without giving an outlook on production.

Cote d’Ivoire in July forecast output from the main crop season that runs from Oct. 1 through March to shrink by almost a fifth from last year, people familiar with the matter said at the time.

The amount could still change after some farmers held back supplies from the smaller mid-crop in anticipation of higher prices in the new season.

The country raised the price farmers will get starting Sunday by 11% to 1,000 CFA francs ($1.61) per kilogramme, falling short of growers’ hopes of a 44% increase.

Analysts at Rabobank and Marex expect West African output to drop in the 2023–24 season.

Marex forecasts the global deficit at 279,000 tonnes, more than the previous two shortfalls combined.

The tight market is being reflected along the supply chain. Cocoa factories around the world have slowed the processing of beans into products used in confectionery.

Trader Cargill Inc. recently said high prices are starting to dent demand increases in Asia, and Swiss grinder Barry Callebaut AG in July reported lower sales.

African harvests have also been stifled because farmers have faced higher costs or shortages of inputs like fertilisers and pesticides. Many live below the poverty line and their pay is set by authorities, meaning they don’t immediately benefit from higher futures prices.

That’s making it harder to boost or treat ravaged trees. Swollen-shoot disease is the most underestimated threat to output in top grower Cote d’Ivoire, affecting about a fifth of the nation’s crop, said Steve Wateridge, head of research at Tropical Research Services.

For the new season in Cote d’Ivoire, farmers in the Daloa region expect to collect a smaller crop due to a lack of pods.

Those in San Pedro say the harvest will be delayed after rains flood plantations, though some Ivorian growers will reap bigger crops due to young trees that are more resistant to disease.

Roughly a 10th of last season’s harvest was lost in Ghana’s Kwarbeng, north of Accra, mainly due to black-pod disease and a lack of chemicals, said Michael Acheampong, who supervises more than 1,500 growers.

There’s a risk that ageing trees mean Ghana’s output is now on a downward trend, Wateridge said.

    Farmer pay

Ghanaian cocoa growers have received a boost with the country initiating its new season three weeks ahead of schedule to mitigate disruptions in sales.

As part of this effort, the government has increased pay for cocoa growers by over 60% to discourage cocoa smuggling into neighbouring Cote d’Ivoire and to incentivize investment in cocoa cultivation.

This increase in pay could potentially lead to higher cocoa production in the future, according to Acheampong.

However, any potential increase in cocoa output may not immediately translate into lower prices, and concerns persist regarding the impact of the El Nino weather pattern, which could bring dry conditions later in the season and pose a threat to cocoa crops.

Furthermore, there are apprehensions that new European regulations aimed at curbing deforestation could result in higher costs for the chocolate industry and, subsequently, consumers.

For the time being, the performance of West Africa’s cocoa harvest remains the primary determinant of cocoa prices.

“Chocolate is a luxury good so it does not always follow an elastic price-against-demand correlation,” StoneX’s Stetzel said. “But higher prices will ultimately mean lesser consumers.”

  • Kennedy Agyapong accuses NPP of looting money and stashing it abroad

Kennedy Agyapong has made explicit allegations of corruption within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He asserts that the scale of embezzlement is highly alarming, suggesting that the misappropriated funds are being concealed overseas.

“The way the NPP is looting this country, you will think there is no tomorrow.

You steal all this money and stash it abroad; what do you mean?” he is heard stating in a video clip that has been shared widely on social media.

“The youth of this country are not working yet, and you are intimidating people. I will put my life on the line and defend them,” he stressed.

According to GhanaWeb’s investigation, he made these remarks during his campaign trip in the United States leading up to the NPP’s flagbearership contest on November 4.

Agyapong, who is a Member of Parliament and an aspirant for the NPP’s flagbearer position, has been vocal about his concerns regarding the party’s direction.

He has claimed that the NPP is on a path of self-destruction, with individuals in power exerting undue influence. Additionally, he has alleged that certain regional chairmen have turned the National Council, the party’s largest decision-making body, into a renegade entity.

“Alan is being insulted on Wontumi’s station. Wontumi is just a small boy; he is a small boy. It is sad that Wontumi and five chairmen—from the northern region, Volta Region—have turned the National Council into a hooliganism group,” he added.

Agyapong will contest for the flagbearership slot of the NPP along with three other contenders, including Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimoh.

The NPP has slated November 4, 2023, to elect a successor to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as leader of the party.

  • Kudus has adopted really quick to the club style – West Ham coach

West Ham’s assistant coach, Billy McKinlay, has expressed optimism about the potential impact of Ghanaian international Mohammed Kudus at the club.

Kudus made the switch to West Ham this summer from the Dutch powerhouse Ajax and has already left a mark during his time with the Hammers.

The 23-year-old has featured in four Premier League matches, all as a substitute, in addition to two starts in the Europa League and EFL Cup, during which he scored twice.

Despite Kudus showcasing his talent, manager David Moyes has emphasised the club’s intention not to rush him into Premier League football. Instead, they aim to gradually introduce him to the league.

McKinlay echoed this viewpoint, recognising the challenging nature of the Premier League and the importance of patience in adapting to its demands.

“Mohammed Kudus has settled in at the club really well and we can see there is a talented footballer there who cares about his football and wants to come in and contribute,” McKinlay told the club’s official website.

“I think we maybe just have to be mindful of the fact it is a really tough league, the Premier League and it’s really difficult to come in and set it alight.”

Although there is a somewhat cautious approach surrounding Kudus, McKinlay does believe that he will make an impact for our Hammers.

“We have to be patient with him,” added the assistant coach. “But we certainly think he’s going to be a good player for us,” he added.

  • Former Sports Minister ET Mensah passes on at 77

Former Member of Parliament for the Ningo Prampram constituency and a former Council of State member, ET Mensah, has passed away at the age of 77.

It is reported that he passed away in South Africa last night after a prolonged battle with illness.

Born on May 17, 1946, Enoch Teye Mensah served as Ghana’s Minister for Education and was a Member of Parliament from January 1997 until January 2017. He was commonly known as ET Mensah and had a family with seven children.

Notably, during the era of the PNDC military regime in Ghana, he held the position of Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), which was akin to being the Mayor of Accra.

ET Mensah joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC) when it was established in 1992. He also contested and won the parliamentary election in 1996, representing the Ningo-Prampram constituency and maintaining the seat for nearly a decade.

Following the NDC’s loss in the 2000 elections, he continued to serve as a Member of Parliament. Mensah eventually lost the NDC primaries to Sam George on December 21, 2015.

Throughout his political career, he held various positions, including Minority Chief Whip in Parliament before the Ghanaian parliamentary election in 2008, after which he became Majority Chief Whip in Parliament in January 2009.

In the early years of the Fourth Republic, he was appointed Minister for Youth and Sports by President Jerry Rawlings and retained the role throughout Rawlings’ tenure.

Subsequently, in January 2010, President John Atta Mills appointed him as the Minister for Employment and Social Welfare following a cabinet reshuffle.

ET Mensah was also a member of the Pan-African Parliament until his resignation in January 2009, after he was appointed as a member of the Council of State.

In January 2011, he was appointed as the Minister for Education, taking over the role after the resignation of Betty Mould-Iddrisu.

Furthermore, on February 12, 2021, Mensah was unanimously elected as the representative of the Council of State for the Greater Accra Region.

  • I am not as gentle as Alan, you try and see – Kennedy Agyapong warns NPP

Aspirant for the position of flagbearer in the upcoming presidential primary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong, has reiterated his objection to the perception that the November 4th vote is being manipulated to favour a specific candidate.

Agyapong, who also serves as the NPP lawmaker for Assin Central, has made it clear that he is prepared to confront any party official, regardless of their level, who attempts to employ unethical tactics before the vote to select the party’s leader for the 2024 elections.

He specifically highlighted the recent resignation of former flagbearer aspirant and former Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen. Alan resigned from the NPP on September 25th and subsequently announced his intention to run as an independent candidate in the 2024 election.

One of the reasons cited by Alan for his departure was the perceived bias in the preliminary vote for the flagbearer position, in which he finished third, as well as alleged intimidation of his supporters.

“I am not Alan, who is so gentle. Let them try, and they will see what will happen. We will rescue Ghana, whether you like it or not. For the youth of this country, I will put my life on the line,” the firebrand MP blasted over the weekend at the ShowDown walk in Kumasi.

“That hooliganism they are exhibiting at the National Council: when Alan complained, he was insulted. When Boakye Agyarko complained, he was also insulted. I have also complained, and I am being insulted. But I am not gentle like Alan. They should try and see,” he warned.

Agyapong will compete with three other candidates for the NPP’s flagbearership, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimoh.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-replacement Addo’s as party head will be chosen on November 4, 2023, according to the NPP.

  • Freezy Macbones, Shatta Wale caught in a bromance at Medikal’s album listening

Ghanaian boxer Seth Gyimah, popularly known as Freezy Macbones, had a meeting with renowned musician Charles Nii Armah Mensah, who goes by the stage name Shatta Wale.

This encounter took place at the album listening event for Ghanaian rapper Medikal’s album titled “Planning and Plotting,” which was held at Marina Mall in Accra on Thursday, September 28.

The event, highly anticipated and attended by top figures from the creative and arts industries, as well as other notable personalities, provided a platform for Freezy Macbones and Shatta Wale to connect.

A video spotted two individuals engaging in an animated conversation and later posing for photographs together, radiating happiness.

Freezy Macbones was part of the 12-member team that represented Ghana at the 2024 Olympic Games in Dakar in August.

Regrettably, Freezy Macbones and eleven other Ghanaian boxers did not secure berths at the Olympics, as they were all eliminated from the competition.

Freezy Macbones faced an early exit when he was defeated by Senegal’s Seydou Konate in a middleweight (80kg) round of 32 bouts.

Despite this setback, Macbones, aged 33, holds an impressive record of 2 wins in 2 professional bouts since making his debut against Christopher Wood in February 2023.

  • Chelsea open to Marc Cucurella January transfer – Reports

Chelsea is open to considering offers for defender Marc Cucurella in anticipation of a potential transfer move in January, according to sources cited by ESPN.

Despite being a £62 million signing from Brighton, Cucurella has only made his second appearance of the season during Wednesday’s 1-0 Carabao Cup fourth-round win against his former club.

He has yet to play a single minute in the Premier League since Mauricio Pochettino took over as head coach in July.

Back in July, Cucurella had expressed his desire to stay at Chelsea and compete for his spot, but if he continues to see limited playing time in the coming months, it may prompt a change in his stance.

During the summer, Chelsea had been prepared to loan the 25-year-old to Manchester United.

However, the deal fell through because Cucurella had already played for Chelsea in a previous Carabao Cup match against AFC Wimbledon.

FIFA regulations state that a player cannot represent three clubs in a single season, and discussions broke down because United sought to include a clause allowing them to return Cucurella to Chelsea.

Reports from Spain have linked Real Madrid with a potential loan offer in January, and the prospect of returning to his home country is believed to be appealing to Cucurella.

United is unlikely to re-enter the race, as they signed Sergio Reguilón on loan from Tottenham after shifting their focus away from Cucurella.

  • FIFA deploys formidable delegation to Ghana ahead of GFA elections

FIFA has assembled a robust delegation for the upcoming 2023 Elective Congress of the Ghana Football Association scheduled for Thursday, October 5, 2023, in Tamale.

The FIFA Delegation, as announced by the GFA, consists of three key members: Gelson Fernandes, who serves as the Director of FIFA Member Associations Africa; Silmara Sousa, holding the role of Development Program Coordinator for FIFA Member Associations Africa, and Ahmed Harraz, who assumes the position of Senior MA Governance Services Manager in FIFA MA Governance.

This FIFA Delegation has been actively assisting the GFA Elections Committee and will engage in final preparations and discussions with the committee during their stay in Ghana before the Congress.

Additionally, FIFA Executive Council Member Amaju Melvin Pinnick is expected to arrive in Ghana in the coming week to participate in the elective Congress, which will take place in the Northern Regional Capital, Tamale.

Furthermore, both CAF and WAFU B have expressed their intentions to send representatives to ensure the success of the GFA Congress on Thursday, October 5, 2023.

  • Dog invades pitch, steals show during Mexican second-tier game

In a Mexican second-tier match between Alebrijes de Oaxaca and Dorados de Sinaloa on Wednesday, a pitch-invading dog created quite a spectacle by snatching the ball and darting around the field.

The dog sprinted onto the pitch and insisted on having the ball from Sinaloa goalkeeper Hernan Mendoza, who reluctantly relinquished it when the referee halted the game for stewards to intervene and guide the dog away.

However, as a steward approached the dog with a leash, the furry intruder managed to firmly grip the football in its mouth and proceeded to make its way towards the center circle, skillfully avoiding the ground staff’s attempts to capture it.

In a matter of seconds, the dog turned the 16,000-capacity stadium into its own arena, with “Ole’s” echoing in the stands as multiple ground staff members comically failed in their efforts to apprehend it.

Even players joined the pursuit, but the agile dog retained possession for over a minute, skillfully evading several challenges. Eventually, one player managed to catch it, and the ground staff coaxed the dog off the field using a spare ball.

“Our new best friend is fine and with us in Templo Alebrije after having debuted in @LigaMXExpansion,” Oaxaca said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Our new reinforcement went to undergo his medical tests to be officially loaned in the coming days,” they added.

  • Isaac Dogboe to take on Nick Ball in IBF Featherweight Eliminator bout on Nov 18

Ghanaian boxer Isaac Dogboe is set to take on the undefeated British fighter Nick Ball in an IBF featherweight eliminator match on Saturday, November 18, in Manchester, United Kingdom.

This bout marks Dogboe’s first professional fight on British soil, following his last match in April 2023 when he lost the world title fight to Cuba’s Robeisy Ramirez by unanimous decision in Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA.

Nick Ball, who currently holds the WBC silver featherweight title, has yet to secure a world title opportunity in his 18 professional fights.

He won his first title fight (WBC silver) against Isaac Lowe in April of the previous year, stopping him in the 3rd round to claim the vacant silver title.

Ball has successfully defended the title three times, with his most recent defense occurring in May 2023.

Isaac Dogboe gained recognition when he became the WBO super bantamweight champion on April 28, 2018, after defeating then-world champion Jesse Magdaleno.

However, he later lost the WBO super bantamweight title to Emanuel Navarrete at the Hulu Theatre in New York City’s Madison Square Garden on December 8, 2018.

Notably, Dogboe is now managed by Rising Star African Promotion (RSAP), having parted ways with his father and former trainer, Paul Dogboe, in 2021.

  • Rumors of Lewandowski to Saudi Arabia resurface

The transfer market has already closed, but the speculation surrounding Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski’s potential move to Saudi Arabia persists.

Sport reports that Abha Club, a team in the Saudi Pro League, remains interested in securing the services of the Polish international.

Saad Bguir, a midfielder for Abha, openly expressed his belief that Lewandowski would be the perfect addition to their squad.

“We need top players like Lewandowski,” Bguir said. “That’s the kind of signing we should make if possible.”

Lewandowski, 35, shut the door on a move to the Middle East in the summer, instead preferring to stay at Barça, who he joined from Bayern Munich for €45m in 2022.

He has made a good start to the campaign, scoring six times in his last five starts for the Blaugrana and setting up three more goals.

  • Another ‘bad news’ hit Pochettino’s camp as Chilwell suffer injury setback

Mauricio Pochettino expressed his concern over the recent injury setback suffered by Chelsea’s defender Ben Chilwell, describing it as “bad news”.

Chilwell had to undergo a scan on Thursday to assess the extent of the hamstring issue that forced him to exit the field during Chelsea’s midweek League Cup victory against Brighton.

Chelsea’s manager, Pochettino, confirmed that it “looks a bad injury” although he couldn’t provide a specific timeframe for Chilwell’s recovery.

This injury represents another setback for the English left-back, who played in only 23 league games last season and missed the 2022 World Cup due to injury.

“I think it is bad news from what the doctor told me. It is not a good thing,” Pochettino told reporters on Friday.

“It looks a bad injury but we need to assess in the next few days and we will see the period he will be out.
“The mechanism was bad, in the last minute of the game. We are really sad about the news about Ben.

“It is difficult to know now, it is less than two days and we need to assess in the next few days.”

With England right-back Reece James also sidelined, Pochettino admitted it was hard to replace to players of such high quality.

“At all clubs, important players are missed when they don’t play,” he said.

“If the question is ‘do we miss them?’ Of course. Reece is a top player and Chilwell also. When they’re at their best, they are the best full-backs in the world.

Pochettino might have to contend with the absence of up to 11 players for the upcoming west London derby against Fulham on Monday. This extensive injury list has been further compounded by the suspensions of Malo Gusto and striker Nicolas Jackson.

However, when Pochettino was questioned about Burnley manager Vincent Kompany’s suggestion of imposing limits on the number of games players can participate in to prevent injuries, the Argentine expressed uncertainty about the feasibility of such an idea.

“Maybe there are players that cannot cope with 70 games during the season, but another player can cope with that,” Pochettino said.

“Another player only can cope with a limited percentage, because the risk is massive to get injured again.

“It’s difficult to generalise. We cannot put some limit on the players. The players want to play every single game. When it’s a top player who wants to play, how do you say no?”

  • Chelsea might field a striker-less lineup against Fulham following player injuries – Pochettino

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is facing a growing list of unavailable players and is considering an intriguing tactical adjustment for the upcoming clash against Fulham.

With the increasing number of players unavailable for Pochettino’s squad, Chelsea may find themselves without a recognized striker when they face Fulham.

The absence of forward Nicolas Jackson, who received his fifth caution of the year last weekend and will consequently miss the Premier League match, has prompted Pochettino to contemplate a significant tactical shift.

Although Jackson is Chelsea’s sole natural No. 9, his disciplinary issues have left Pochettino frustrated. When asked about his options for a striker in light of Jackson’s absence.

When asked how much of a priority is addressing that in January, Pochettino said: “The good thing, the relationship is very good with the owners and the sporting directors. I think like I told before, when the transfer window was closed, I need to be involved, more involved now, in every single decision. I think we need to start identifying what we need for January.

“I think football is very dynamic, it’s the present always. Things can change until January. Now we need to work and try to recover [Christopher] Nkunku and of course Armando Broja and to try and provide the team more goals and to be more solid but of course, parallel to working to improvise to improve the team and the way we assess the team for the competition. But of course, we already start to work.”

Ben Chilwell and Reece James, the starting wing-backs, will also be absent on Monday.

Chilwell’s injury is ‘bad news,’ Pochettino ominously cautioned, and both players will undergo more medical exams.

James, another Chelsea defender, will also be out, and Malo Gusto will serve a suspension for his red card against Aston Villa.

Pochettino and Chelsea are now gearing up to face Fulham on Monday, October 2 at Craven Cottage.

  • Forget GFA presidential ambition – Neil Armstrong to George Afriyie

Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe, a former aspirant for the presidency of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has advised George Afriyie to reconsider his bid for the upcoming association election.

George Afriyie had his candidacy disqualified, leading him to file a petition with the Court of Arbitration of Sports to challenge this decision.

However, Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe suggests that Afriyie should withdraw from the race due to significant support from key football administrators for the incumbent president, Kurt Okraku.

“I would have told him [George Afriyie not to pursue this case further],” he told JoyNews.

“Look at the number of endorsements we have seen. Are we to disbelieve the likes of Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe, Amarkai Amarteifio, Moses Armah Parker, and some of these persons, in the last elections 2019, everybody in our football knows where some of them stood in terms of who they were backing.

“Yet these persons have come forward and said ‘we are not saying our football is perfect; there is so much more work to do, but given the signals that we’ve seen of these four years of Mr. Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku, we think he is laying a good foundation,” he noted.

At the moment, the GFA elections have been delayed following the FA’s dispute with King Faisal who has summoned the body for wanting to hold presidential elections before electing new Executive Council members.

The court has rescheduled the hearing to Thursday, October 12, 2023. The adjournment has caused the GFA to postpone their election from October 5, 2023, to October 15.

  • Spain coach De La Fuente called to testify in the Rubiales kissing case

Spain men’s coach Luis de la Fuente has been summoned as a witness by the judge investigating the former president of the Spanish football federation, Luis Rubiales, for alleged sexual assault and coercion involving women’s international player Jenni Hermoso.

Judge Francisco de Jorge has requested De la Fuente to appear, along with Pablo Garcia Cuervo, the federation’s director of communication, and several other staff members, according to judicial sources.

De la Fuente and Garcia are scheduled to appear in court on October 20, while others, including the women’s team’s psychologist, have been summoned for October 27.

The investigation revolves around Rubiales allegedly forcibly kissing Hermoso on the lips during the medal ceremony in Sydney on August 20, following La Roja’s tournament victory.

    https://www.youtube.com/shorts/wxpPEEjBJEM

Earlier this week, the judge expanded the investigation to include Spain’s former women’s coach Jorge Vilda, along with Albert Luque, director of the men’s national team, and Ruben Rivera, the marketing director for the federation.

The specific details of Vilda’s involvement in the case were not disclosed.

Three players from the women’s team, including two-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas, are scheduled to testify on October 2.

Rubiales resigned from his position amid global outrage over his actions and appeared in court on September 15.

The judge issued a restraining order preventing him from being within 200 metres of Hermoso.

During Monday’s proceedings, Hermoso’s brother and one of her friends corroborated her account that she did not consent to the kiss and had been pressured to justify Rubiales’ actions.

  • Amateur boxing comes with too many rules – Freezy Macbones laments

Ghanaian boxer Seth Gyimah, known as Freezy Macbones, has expressed his view that the rules of amateur boxing constrained him compared to professional boxing, where the regulations are more lenient.

Freezy Macbones was a member of Ghana’s 12-man contingent that represented the country at the 2024 Olympic Games in Dakar in August.

Unfortunately, Macbones and the other eleven Ghanaian boxers failed to secure their spots at the Olympics after being eliminated from the competition.

Freezy Macbones had an early exit when he was defeated by Senegal’s Seydou Konate in a middleweight (80kg) round of 32 bouts.

The British-Ghanaian boxer explained that professional boxing allows for more freedom in exhibiting various styles in the ring, whereas amateur boxing is more restrictive, a realm he had not previously ventured into.

“There is a whole lot of change moving from pro boxer back to amateur boxer. In a pro fight, nobody cares what you’re going to do. You can slip or even do your dance. But being an amateur is different and there are so many rules to follow”, he told Code Mickey in an interview.

“Believe me or not, I won the fight. I won the first round and second round. In the third round, guess what happened? They took a point from me because I used the pro-style”, he added.

On the other hand, the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) has announced that Freezy Macbones will need to secure his spot in the upcoming Olympic Games qualifiers in Thailand and Italy by facing local boxers in competition.

Seth Gyimah, who boasts a record of two victories in two bouts since his professional debut against Christopher Wood in February 2023, will need to earn his place through this route.

  • Nigerian govt writes to Italian govt regarding Napoli’s ridicule of Victor Osimhen

Nigeria’s Sports Minister, John Owan Enoh, has disclosed that both the Nigerian and Italian governments are taking steps to address Napoli’s taunting of Victor Osimhen.

In his statement on Thursday, September 28, 2023, he emphasised that the ministry places a strong emphasis on the well-being of Nigerian athletes in general.

Consequently, they are determined to ensure that athletes are treated with the respect they deserve.

“We are committed to ensuring our sportsmen and women are accorded the respect they deserve and are not exposed to any injustice,” Mr Enoh said.

Meanwhile, Napoli, in their statement addressing the issue, failed to apologise to the player and instead clarified that the video was not intended to mock Osimhen.

    Victor Osimhen celebrates

“Calcio Napoli, wishing to avoid any exploitation of the issue, points out that we never wanted to offend or mock Victor Osimhen, who is a treasure of this club.

“As proof of that, during the summer training retreat, the club firmly rebuffed every offer that was received for the striker’s transfer abroad.

“Social media, in particular TikTok, has always used an expressive form of language with a light heart and creativity, without wanting to, as in the case with Osimhen as protagonist, have any intention of insult or derision.

“In any case, if Victor perceived any offence towards him, this was not what the club intended.”

Osimhen, despite not breaking his silence on the issue, has deleted all Napoli-related posts on his Instagram.

Amidst the mockery saga, he went on to score for Napoli in their 4-1 win over Udinese at home, taking his goal tally to four goals in six Serie A games.

  • The best will start – Pep speaks on Doku and Jack Grealish comparison

Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, has addressed the ongoing social media discussions regarding the suitability of Jeremy Doku, a Belgian-Ghanaian winger, and English forward Jack Grealish for his team.

Both of these forwards are vying for a starting position in Manchester City’s lineup, and social media has been filled with debates about which of them is the ideal choice for the left-wing role in Pep’s squad.

Guardiola emphasised that his primary criterion for selecting one of these players for a game is their performance on the field.

“Jeremy can play on the right as well. Who is going to play more? The one who performs better.”

He added that Phil Foden can also play as the left winger; therefore, one can only earn a place based on their performance.

“Phil Foden can play on the left too. The guy who performs best and fits better will play.”

Doku, who joined City in the summer, has gotten off to an impressive start, with Guardiola hailing him as a proper winger in a previous interview.

Meanwhile, Grealish, who made a big-money move to City in 2022, was instrumental in the team’s treble-winning season.

Manchester City will face Wolves at the Molineux stadium on Saturday, September 30, 2023.

  • Italian Journalist pleads with Nigerians after receiving backlash on her IG for slamming Osimhen

Italian television personality Marika Fruscio has appealed for peace from Nigerians after she criticised Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen amid his recent troubles with Napoli.

Osimhen, the Nigerian international, took the step of deleting all posts related to the Italian club from his Instagram account this week, following a mocking incident by the club on their official TikTok account.

Fruscio expressed her disagreement with Osimhen’s actions and vented her opinions about the former Lille striker.

This led to strong reactions from Nigerians, who criticised her in the comments section of her Instagram post.

The TV personality, who has since made her account private, has responded to the fans who engaged with her online.

The Italian beauty also expressed her love of Africa and her thoughts on talent stemming from the continent.

“I have always appreciated their talents and, moreover, the beautiful values in terms of friendship and positivity they have. Now days are so full of bad news so let’s spread love and peace. Hugs to you all,” she concluded.

It was reported that Osimhen deleted all Napoli-related content on Instagram after the club mocked his penalty miss with a controversial TikTok post.

The Super Eagles striker fired blank and fluffed a spot kick attempt as the reigning Serie A champions were held to a goalless draw in Serie A by Bologna over the weekend.

In a now-deleted post on the platform, Napoli shared a video after the game depicting Osimhen missing from the spot along with a high-pitched voiceover mocking him.

  • Barcelona’s referee bribery case a worry for Ancelotti

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed his concerns on Friday regarding the bribery case involving Spanish champions Barcelona.

“A Spanish judge charged Barcelona and several of their former directors with bribery on Thursday after alleged payments to Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, who was a former Spanish refereeing vice president.”

“Negreira allegedly earned over seven million euros ($7.5 million) from Barcelona between 2001 and 2018 through companies supposedly producing refereeing reports for the club.”

“Police on Thursday raided Spain’s football refereeing headquarters on the outskirts of Madrid as part of a probe into the payments made by Barcelona.”

“I am worried like everyone in the football world about such a serious topic, but justice is working on it, and we have to let justice run its course,” Ancelotti told a news conference.

He continued: “I’ve been living for 40 years in this world (of football), and when these types of things happen, everyone is worried.

“I hope that justice can do its job and reach a solution.”

Barcelona coach Xavi said Thursday he had never noticed any preferential treatment in his playing days at the club.

“I never had the sensation that the referees favoured us, ever,” he told reporters at a press conference ahead of Barcelona’s clash with Sevilla on Friday.

Ancelotti says defender Antonio Rudiger will be fine after suffering some discomfort in the midweek win over Las Palmas, while he hopes to have David Alaba back for Tuesday’s visit to Napoli in the Champions League.

“We have to do things well to play a complete game, make sure the team has balance, defend well and when we have the ball, show the quality that we have to damage them,” said Ancelotti.

The coach said winger Vinicius Junior, who made his comeback from injury against Las Palmas as a substitute, would start on the visit to Montilivi.

Felix and Cancelo strike in Barca demolition of Betis
Girona’s own Brazilian wide man, Savinho, has excelled at the start of the season and helped the Catalan minnows, only in the top flight for the fourth season in their history, to fly.

“He’s a young player who is doing very well… he’s showing a lot of quality,” added Ancelotti.

“(But) I think we have the resources and experiences.

  • Heartbroken Congolese midfielder attempts suicide

Midfielder for OGC Nice, Alexis Beka Beka, was rescued after he threatened to jump from the Magnan viaduct in Nice, France, on Friday, September 29.

This alarming incident reportedly stemmed from a romantic breakup.

The player received immediate attention from club psychologists, and emergency services, along with firefighters and military personnel, were on the scene to ensure his safety and calm the situation.

The 22-year-old Frenchman joined OGC Nice in the summer of 2022 from CSKA Moscow in a 12 million euro transfer on a five-year contract.

Beka Beka, who initially came through the ranks at Ligue 2 side Caen before his move to OGC Nice, had limited playing time last season and has yet to make an appearance in the 2023–24 French Ligue 1 season.

Alexis Beka Beka is a youth international for France and was part of the French Olympic team that competed in the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Born in France, he holds both French and Congolese nationalities.

In the previous edition of the tournament held in Cameroon, Sadio Mane scored the decisive penalty as Senegal emerged victorious, defeating Egypt 4-2 in a dramatic penalty shootout.”

  • Juventus interested in Tottenham’s Hojberg

Juventus is closely monitoring the situation of Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojberg, as reported by Calciomercato.

The Italian club is actively seeking to bolster their midfield during the January transfer window, having faced the temporary suspension of Paul Pogba due to a failed doping test.

Hojberg, aged 28, had reportedly expressed his desire to leave Tottenham during the summer, attracting interest from several clubs, including Atletico Madrid.

The Danish international is currently under contract with Tottenham until June 2025 but has seen limited playing time, with only 79 minutes across five Premier League appearances this season.

Tottenham is reportedly open to considering offers for Hojberg but is looking for a fee in the vicinity of €30 million, which poses a challenge for Juventus.

In response, Juventus is exploring the possibility of securing Hojberg on a six-month loan deal in January, with hopes of negotiating a permanent transfer at a reduced fee during the summer.

  • Cristiano Ronaldo: Gary Neville “wish he had stayed” at Man Utd

Manchester United icon Gary Neville expressed his regret over how Cristiano Ronaldo’s second stint at the club ended in an interview with Marca.

Ronaldo’s departure from the Red Devils occurred in November 2022, following a mutual agreement, after he gave an outspoken interview with Piers Morgan.

In that interview, he openly criticised both United and manager Erik ten Hag.

“I wish it hadn’t ended like that,” Neville said. “I wish he had stayed, and they had found a way to cope with each other until the end of the season. But it became impossible once he did the interview with Piers Morgan. It was so public at the time that there was only one outcome.”

    Gary and CR7 Utd

Neville was very critical of Ronaldo and his lack of proactive leadership during his last stint at Old Trafford.

“I love Cristiano; he probably doesn’t love me for what I said,” he said. “But I would like to think that in five to 10 years he will understand that my comments came from a good place. I wanted him to understand that when you get to 35 or 36, the younger players in the locker room and the less talented players rely on you to take them with you; that there are different ways to be a mentor, a coach and a father in some ways.

“He is still my favourite player of all time and the one I like the most when I talk about who is the greatest of all time. I know that many people would say [Lionel] Messi, but I love Cristiano.”

  • Barcelona considering contract extension for De Jong

Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, has initiated discussions with Frenkie de Jong regarding a potential contract extension at the club, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.

Relations between Barcelona and De Jong’s camp had been strained last summer due to discussions about a possible transfer to Manchester United.

However, given De Jong’s strong form, despite a recent injury, Barcelona is now eager to prolong his contract beyond its current term, ending in 2026.

Deco has conveyed to De Jong that the desire for contract renewal is not linked to creating more financial room within their LaLiga-imposed spending limits.

Barcelona recently extended the contract of Marc-Andre ter Stegen, with the goalkeeper agreeing to lower wages in the coming years to help the club allocate more funds for player registrations in the current season.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the conversation between Deco and De Jong had a “positive” tone, with the sporting director emphasising that the extension would be based on sporting achievements.

Nevertheless, official negotiations with the player’s representatives have not yet commenced.

  • Barcelona’s financial woes prompts more loan deals, pursuit for struggling players in other clubs

Barcelona’s financial constraints have led the club to primarily focus on acquiring free agents, securing loan deals, and targeting talented players who find themselves out of favour at their current clubs.

According to Mundo Deportivo, this strategy is expected to persist, and they have provided a list of players that Barcelona is considering ahead of the summer transfer window.

First on their list is Jadon Sancho, the Manchester United winger. The English international has been sidelined since August 26 due to well-documented issues with manager Erik ten Hag, resulting in his exclusion from first-team activities.

Ten Hag seems unwavering in his approach, but Barcelona may face competition from Roma, who are also reportedly interested in the 23-year-old.

Another Manchester United player under Barcelona’s radar is Anthony Martial, who has struggled to secure significant playing time, even amid the issues in Ten Hag’s squad. Martial, aged 27, has a contract set to expire in the summer.

Matthijs de Ligt is also under consideration by Barcelona.

The 24-year-old center-back has openly expressed his dissatisfaction with his limited playing time at Bayern Munich, having received just 82 minutes in the Bundesliga under manager Thomas Tuchel this season.

Barcelona is also exploring the possibility of acquiring Arsenal midfielder Jorginho.

The 31-year-old midfielder joined Arsenal in January, but his contract is currently set to expire in the summer of 2024.

Additionally, there is a surprising interest in versatile forward and midfielder Kai Havertz, who recently joined Arsenal this summer for £65 million but has already become a subject of frustration.

Furthermore, Barcelona is among several clubs interested in negotiating with 21-year-old forward Nico Williams if Athletic Club fails to reach a contract renewal agreement with him.

Williams’ current deal is set to expire this summer.

  • Mourinho remains resolute despite ‘worst start’ to a season in his managerial career

Jose Mourinho admitted that his current season with Roma is off to the worst start he’s experienced as a manager.

This acknowledgment came after Roma’s 4-1 defeat against Genoa, which left them perilously close to the Serie A relegation zone.

Despite this difficult start, Mourinho defended his record by highlighting his recent successes.

Mourinho had previously steered Roma to consecutive European finals, securing victory in the Europa Conference League in 2022 and reaching the Europa League final, where they were defeated by Sevilla earlier this year.

However, with Roma currently positioned 16th in Serie A, he is now facing increased pressure.

In the aftermath of the substantial loss to Genoa, Mourinho used these past accomplishments to make his case.

“It’s also my worst start to a season as a coach,” he said when told it was Roma’s worst-ever start to a campaign.

“However, I don’t think that Roma had ever appeared in two consecutive European finals (before last season).

Roma have just one win from their six league matches so far and a growing injury list is not aiding Mourinho’s cause, particularly in defence.

“When we’re missing certain players, we lack solidity,” he said.

“However, to state that our weakening solidity is the result of the absence of this or that player wouldn’t be correct. Our lack of defensive stability is down to the team as a whole—what happens when we lose possession and when we drop deeper?”

With Roma back in action against Frosinone on Sunday before a Europa League fixture against Swiss side Servette on October 5, Mourinho said there is no point in stewing over their problems.

“This is the squad we have, for better or worse. We have to move forward; there’s no time to lament,” he added.

“I might show my feelings behind the scenes because it really affects me emotionally, especially given my relationship with the fans.

“We’ll be working hard tomorrow ahead of our next game. Three points will be at stake—it’s not like we’re in six-pointer territory already—but it’s a huge game for us now.”

  • Include Kudus in the starting lineup against Sheffield United – Fans pressure David Moyes

West Ham United fans are urging head coach David Moyes to include new signing Mohammed Kudus in the starting lineup for the upcoming match against Sheffield United at the London Stadium.

These supporters, along with numerous Ghanaians, have expressed their frustration over Kudus’ limited playing time, particularly after the club posted a video highlighting his dribbling skills during their recent 1-0 victory in the EFL Cup against Lincoln City.

Since his transfer from Ajax, Kudus has yet to make a Premier League start for West Ham.

In his first three appearances, he came on as a substitute and has played a total of 40 minutes.

However, his last two starts for the club were in the Europa League and EFL Cup, where he earned the Man of the Match award in both games.

Despite his restricted playing time, the Ghanaian sensation has managed to score two goals in just 220 minutes on the field.

West Ham United is set to face Sheffield United on Saturday, September 30, 2023, and they are eager to bounce back in the league after a recent 3-1 loss to Liverpool in their previous outing.

  • How it is like to be teammates with Cristiano Ronaldo; Javier Hernandez spills the beans

Cristiano Ronaldo demands the best of himself and those around him, according to Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez, but he insists that Ronaldo is not “difficult or complicated.”

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has set numerous records throughout his career and has amassed league titles in England, Spain, and Italy, in addition to winning five Champions League trophies, all as a result of his relentless pursuit of perfection.

Ronaldo has always strived for continuous improvement throughout his extraordinary career.

Mexican forward Hernandez had a brief stint alongside the Portuguese superstar at Real Madrid during the 2014–15 season, a year in which Ronaldo achieved a personal best goal tally of 61.

Hernandez has been in awe of Ronaldo, both during their time together at Santiago Bernabeu and in the years that followed.

Hernandez has told Paramount+ of his time in Spain working alongside one of the very best to have ever played the game: “I always divided it as the first six months being very complicated because I played practically nothing.

“Some unfortunate injuries arose and I was given an opportunity in the second part, which was extraordinary and unique.

Cristiano was phenomenal in the locker room and in his way of being. I don’t think I have met or seen a player who has come out to say that Cristiano is a difficult or complicated person. Cris is Cris. We know his personality and competitiveness, but as a teammate, that is one of the things you cannot take away.”

Ronaldo and Hernandez have ventured beyond European football, with Ronaldo currently playing in Saudi Arabia with Al-Nassr, while Hernandez is in his fourth season with the LA Galaxy in MLS.

Notably, they now find themselves with Lionel Messi as a direct competitor for significant honours in the United States.

  • Arteta gives update on Declan, Saka others injury crisis ahead of Bournemouth clash

Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, has disclosed that several key first-team players may be unavailable for their upcoming match against Bournemouth this Saturday.

Declan Rice, a summer signing for the team, had to be substituted at halftime during last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur. Arteta has revealed that Rice has not been able to participate in training this week due to a diagnosed back issue.

Furthermore, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard, who were absent for the match against Spurs, have yet to return to training, raising concerns about their availability.

Additionally, Bukayo Saka, who was subbed out late in the north London derby and subsequently missed the midweek victory against Brentford in the Carabao Cup third round, may also be sidelined for the upcoming weekend fixture.

The Gunners boss told reporters: “Declan hasn’t trained yet; we have a session in an hour; we’ll get more news about him. Gabi [Martinelli] hasn’t trained; Leo is in the same situation; Saka is the same. They are all in the same pool; Willy [Saliba] had a knock, and Fabio [Viera] wasn’t involved. We have to assess them today.”

While Declan Rice’s substitution during the Spurs match was due to a reduction in his range of motion, Arsenal remains optimistic that his injury isn’t of a long-term nature.

Subsequent to his halftime departure from the game, a battery of tests has been conducted on the £105 million ($129 million) summer signing from West Ham in order to assess the extent of the issue.

Mikel Arteta faces a challenging dilemma in the next 24 hours regarding whom, if anyone, to take a risk with, especially considering the pivotal fixture against Manchester City in a week’s time and an upcoming Champions League journey to Lens on Tuesday.

As the match against Bournemouth approaches on Saturday, September 30 at the Vitality Stadium, Arteta is likely to have a severely depleted squad at his disposal.

  • Man Utd officially announces Antony’s comeback after hours of police interrogation

Antony has rejoined the Manchester United squad, making himself available for both training and matches, following his meeting with the police regarding assault allegations.

The winger had been granted a leave of absence by the club on September 10 after facing accusations of violent behaviour from his former girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin, along with similar allegations from two other Brazilian women.

Antony, vehemently denying all allegations made against him by these three women, had been staying in Brazil but returned to Manchester on Tuesday.

He voluntarily participated in a five-hour interview with the police on Thursday, and he was subsequently released with no restrictions. Additionally, he provided evidence to support his refutation of the allegations.

Notably, the fact that Antony has not been arrested or charged in either Brazil or the UK has played a role in his reintroduction to the squad. However, the club will continue to monitor the situation closely as long as police investigations persist.

A statement from United on Friday read: “Since allegations were first made in June, Antony has cooperated with police inquiries in both Brazil and the UK, and he continues to do so.

“As Antony’s employer, Manchester United has decided that he will resume training at Carrington, and be available for selection, while police inquiries proceed. This will be kept under review pending further developments in the case.

“As a club we condemn acts of violence and abuse. We recognise the importance of safeguarding all those involved in this situation, and acknowledge the impact these allegations have on survivors of abuse.”

Antony is scheduled to participate in training on Friday and may be in contention to play against Crystal Palace in the upcoming Premier League match on Saturday.

Antony, who was signed by Manchester United from Ajax for a hefty £85 million ($104 million), initially faced allegations of violent behavior from Gabriela Cavallin back in June. At that time, Cavallin filed a police complaint against him in Sao Paulo.

The club remained silent regarding the allegations, and Antony continued with pre-season training and participated in Manchester United’s tour of the United States. He even featured in all four of the team’s opening Premier League matches.

However, his situation took a turn when he joined the Brazilian national team for their World Cup qualifiers in September. He was subsequently removed from the squad after Cavallin gave an interview to the Brazilian website UOL, providing further details about the accusations.

She claimed that Antony had headbutted her and pushed her in one instance, resulting in the dislocation of one of her breast implants.

She also alleged that during the summer of 2022 in Brazil, Antony had threatened to eject her from a moving car, and in May 2023, he had thrown a glass at her, causing a cut to her finger.

In addition to Cavallin’s accusations, businesswoman Ingrid Lana claimed that Antony had invited her to England in September 2022 and had physically assaulted her by grabbing her, pushing her against a wall, and attempting to kiss her.

Another woman, Rayssa De Freitas, asserted that she had filed a complaint with Sao Paulo Civil Police in May 2022, three months before Antony’s transfer to United, alleging that she had been attacked by Antony and required hospital treatment following an altercation in a car after a night out in Brazil.

Manchester United is expected to face criticism for reintegrating Antony into the team, especially in light of concerns expressed by several charities when the allegations initially surfaced.

These organizations urged the club to remove the player from the squad.

The club had previously drawn widespread criticism for considering the return of Mason Greenwood to the squad after charges of attempted rape, assault, and coercive and controlling behavior against the striker were dropped.

Greenwood has since embarked on a loan to Getafe and started in their 2-2 draw against Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday.

  • Zinedine Zidane visits former teammate Beckham as Inter Miami prepare for Messi-less U.S. Open Cup final

David Beckham, the owner of Inter Miami, and his former Real Madrid teammate Zinedine Zidane met before the Open Cup match on Wednesday, just before Inter Miami suffered a defeat.

Unfortunately, Lionel Messi, who missed the game due to an injury, witnessed his team’s loss to the Houston Dynamo from the stadium.

Zidane, the Real Madrid legend, was a guest of David Beckham and joined him on the pitch before the game kicked off.

Zidane is among several celebrities who have come to watch Messi play since the Argentine’s arrival in the United States.

Previously, notable figures like Prince Harry, Selena Gomez, Will Ferrell, Owen Wilson, and Michael Jordan have all been spotted at DRV PNK Stadium.

In 2023, Beckham and Zidane have also had other interactions, with Beckham visiting Zidane’s Z5 sports facility in Istres in June.

Inter Miami, known as the Herons, will be hosting NYCFC on Saturday evening and will be hoping for Messi’s swift recovery to bolster their slim chances of making it to the playoffs.

  • Police hold Man Utd’s Antony for five interrogation into alleged sexual assault allegations

Manchester United forward Antony was reportedly quizzed by police for five hours after returning to England to face assault allegations.

The Brazilian international stands accused by his former girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin of having subjected her to a series of physical attacks and mental abuse.

Antony denies all of the allegations and has voluntarily handed himself over to police forces in South America and the United Kingdom. He returned to Manchester on Monday, having flown in from Sao Paulo.

Antony made contact with Greater Manchester Police, with The Sun reporting that he left his home in Hale Barns at around 4 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.

His current partner, Rosilene Silva, was alongside him, with the 23-year-old seen leaving the police station in question at 9:30 p.m.

Cavallin has accused Antony of assaulting her on a number of occasions throughout their relationship, with the first attacks taking place in June 2022 while she was pregnant.

She claims to have been left with a head wound and a sliced finger, while also releasing screenshots of abuse directed at her by Antony on WhatsApp.

Two other women have made similar allegations against Antony.

He has been granted indefinite leave by Manchester United as the case continues, with the Premier League club giving him time to address matters away from the field.

  • Zidane ready to take Marseille managerial role, if Saudi if club is sold to the Saudis

Zinedine Zidane has reportedly reached a preliminary agreement to become the manager of Olympique de Marseille if the club is acquired by Saudi Arabia.

According to France Blue Provence, the former Real Madrid manager has given his consent to take over as the head coach at Stade Vélodrome should the proposed sale of Marseille to the Gulf State come to fruition.

However, this dream may be deferred as the current owner, Frank McCourt, has firmly stated that the club is not available for sale.

Nevertheless, Saudi Arabia has expressed strong interest in acquiring the French club, envisioning a transformation similar to Newcastle’s resurgence in England.

Reports suggest that Zidane has requested a significant £260 million transfer budget to facilitate his return to Marseille.

Additionally, he desires control over recruitment, a request that has garnered approval from the Saudi authorities.

Nonetheless, the ultimate decision lies with Marseille’s owner, McCourt, who must be persuaded to sell for Zidane to return to his former club.

In the meantime, Genaro Gattuso was unveiled as Marseille’s new head coach on Wednesday, succeeding Marcelino.

He will continue to lead the team until the takeover is finalised and Zidane assumes the managerial role.

  • Italian Football Federation mull legal suit against ex manager Roberto Mancini for sudden quit to Saudi

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) is contemplating taking legal action against former national team coach Roberto Mancini.

Mancini stepped down from his position as Italy’s head coach in August after a five-year tenure, during which he led them to victory in Euro 2020 but failed to secure qualification for the previous year’s World Cup.

However, just two weeks later, he was officially announced as the new manager of Saudi Arabia, having signed a four-year contract.

The FIGC initially supported Mancini’s continuation with the national team despite their absence from the World Cup in Qatar.

    Roberto Mancini Italy

President Gabriele Gravina has now confirmed that they have engaged a lawyer to explore the possibility of pursuing a legal case against the 58-year-old.

“The council has mandated a professional to obtain a technical legal opinion to understand what type of opportunities there may be for compensation,” Gravina told a Federal Council meeting, according to Repubblica.

“Last night we met with Mancini; we said goodbye for a moment because respect and education are key values of sport.”
Italy, now under the leadership of Luciano Spalletti, will take on Malta in Euro 2024 qualifying before facing England in October.

  • Jersey swap with Messi is like winning a trophy – MLS stars react to Leo’s ‘jersey swap spree’

Santiago Sosa of Atlanta United said, exchanging jerseys with Lionel Messi is like winning a major trophy.

In the MLS, Messi has swapped shirts with 12 players, including Sosa.

Messi, a seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, joined Inter Miami in the summer, instantly becoming a massive sensation in American soccer.

His presence has attracted A-list celebrities seeking tickets to watch him play, and every opponent hopes to leave with a memento of having shared the field with the legendary player.

To date, Messi has exchanged jerseys with 12 individuals in the United States, including eight fellow Argentinians, two Americans, a Brazilian, and a Ghanaian.

Sosa fought hard for his memento after facing his countryman in the Leagues Cup, with Thiago Almada having beaten him to the punch on the field, but he has told ESPN of walking away with a prized possession: “[Players] usually wear two jerseys during a game, one in the first half and another in the second

“So I gave him mine, and he sent me one he had used [in the first half]. Having faced him is a great memory that’s always going to stay with me. Having the shirt is something nice, not just for me but for my family as well. It’s a trophy, in a way.”

Almada formed part of Argentina’s triumphant 2022 World Cup-winning squad, but he said of landing a club shirt from Messi: “When I grabbed it, it smelled like perfume. On the national team, I never wanted to ask him for his jersey or bother him, so I’m very happy to have his shirt.”

LAFC star John McCarthy is one of the two Americans to have landed a Messi jersey—and the only goalkeeper—and he managed to win the post-game race to the 36-year-old forward despite having already given his shirt to Inter Miami custodian Drake Callender.

McCarthy said: “All I really said was: ‘Ah, Messi. ¿Camiseta, por favour?’ I felt bad because he kind of looked at me like, ‘Where’s yours?’ in a sense. I guess I’m lucky we don’t have many Argentinians on the team!”

  • CAS rejects King Faisal’s plea for GPL stay

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has declined King Faisal FC’s request for a stay of execution regarding their dispute with the Ghana Football Association.

The club, based in Kumasi, had turned to CAS after being relegated from the Ghanaian top-flight league last season due to a protest they lost against Tamale City FC.

The protest alleged double registrations of players Jireh Kojo Nissi and Isaac Mensah within the Ghana FA. The FA acknowledged that the player, Jireh Kojo Nissi, is the same as Isaac Mensah.

King Faisal sought a stay to continue participating in the Ghana Premier League for the 2023–24 season until a final decision was reached.

However, CAS, in a circular dated September 27, 2023, has rejected King Faisal’s request for a stay, pending the final resolution of the case.

The associated costs of this decision will be determined in the final ruling or any subsequent arbitration disposition.

At present, King Faisal is preparing for the upcoming 2023–24 Division One campaign, scheduled to start next month.

  • Napoli releases response statement to Osimhen mockery video, refuses to apologise

Italian club Napoli has issued an official statement regarding the TikTok video that appeared to mock Nigerian international Victor Osimhen but did not apologise.

Osimhen had missed a penalty during their Serie A match against Bologna, resulting in a draw.

Subsequently, two days later, the club posted a video on its TikTok account, which was widely criticised for being insensitive, offensive, and potentially racist.

The video faced considerable backlash from football fans and pundits globally, prompting the player to remove all Napoli-related images from his Instagram profile.

Napoli’s official Tiktok trolls Osimhen after penalty miss

Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, further threatened to take legal action against the Serie A club.

The 24-year-old was on target in their 4-1 win over Udinese but failed to celebrate the goal. Napoli has finally released an official statement about the situation, as per Football Italia:

“Calcio Napoli, wishing to avoid any exploitation of the issue, points out that we never wanted to offend or mock Victor Osimhen, who is a treasure of this club”.

“As proof of that, during the summer training retreat, the club firmly rebuffed every offer that was received for the striker’s transfer abroad”.

“Social media, in particular TikTok, has always used an expressive form of language with a light heart and creativity, without wanting to, as in the case with Osimhen as protagonist, have any intention of insult or derision”.

“In any case, if Victor perceived any offence towards him, this was not what the club intended”.

    Italian TV hostess blasts Osimhen

Earlier, there were reports of Italian TV presenter Marika Fruscio strongly criticizing Osimhen for removing all content related to his club from his Instagram account.

The club had previously posted a video on TikTok, which has since been deleted, containing content that mocked the striker for his missed penalty.

The Italian champions faced substantial backlash for this post, but Fruscio used social media to accuse Osimhen of displaying unprofessionalism by removing all Napoli-related posts from his account.

  • Ghana’s Baba Yara pitch “not so good” –  Antoine Semenyo laments

Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo expressed strong dissatisfaction with the poor condition of the pitch at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

This came after the Black Stars secured a 2-1 victory against the Central African Republic in the final group game of the 2023 AFCON on Thursday, September 7.

Semenyo entered the game as a substitute in the second half and played a crucial part in Ghana’s much-needed win, which secured their place in the next AFCON to be held in Ivory Coast.

He provided the assist for Ghana’s winning goal, scored by Ernest Nuamah, following Kudus Mohammed’s brilliant equalizer from a free-kick.

Despite his joy at contributing to the team’s success, Semenyo lamented the poor state of the pitch, which made movement on the field challenging.

“The pitch wasn’t too good and not also positioning well but the surprise was, we were really good and I’m happy to say I came on and provided the assist for the winner”, he told Bournemouth media.

The forward has netted a goal in four matches for Bournemouth in the 2023/2024 English Premier League season and with the Black Stars, Semenyo has scored twice in eight matches.

The 33-year-old boxer, who is based in the UK, draws parallels between his style and that of the legendary Mike Tyson, who was renowned for his tenacity and toughness in the world of boxing.

Speaking to Code Micky in an interview, Freezy said “You have a boxer and a fighter, I’m a fighter. I go in and I don’t care who I’m going to face. • What is the point of this flirt? Be humble – Italian journalist blasts Osimhen for reactions to TikTok video

Italian journalist Marika Fruscio has criticised Napoli striker Victor Osimhen for what she perceives as rude behaviour towards his teammates.

Osimhen, who had been the subject of social media taunts by the club for missing a penalty, reportedly refrained from shaking hands with his fellow players upon arriving at the team hotel ahead of their match against Udinese on Wednesday, September 27, 2023.

Fruscio, who saw no issue with the club’s playful teasing of the player, expressed disapproval of Osimhen’s apparent moodiness and his decision to ignore his teammates.

In an Instagram post, she questioned why the Nigerian striker would contemplate legal action against the club over what she considered a ‘sarcastic’ video. She also assigned blame to the fans for elevating the player to an almost godlike status.

“Your a champion but it takes humility. What’s the use of deleting the photos of the team that worshipped and supported you? What’s the point of flirting like this?? Even legal action for a sarcastic video? An intelligent man would have laughed at it. BE THE PROFESSIONAL. HEAD DOWN AND WORK
It’s our fault anyway that we make these players almost gods. JUST THE SHIRT, JUST THE SHIRT.”

    Italian journalist slams Osimhen

In a video posted by Napoli-based blogger Gennaro Del Vecchio, Victor Osimhen, appearing displeased, exchanged greetings with Santoro but did not acknowledge his teammates Demme and Zielinski.

Despite the recent incident involving mockery, Victor Osimhen proceeded to score a goal for Napoli in their 4-1 victory over Udinese at their home stadium, bringing his total goal count to four in six Serie A matches.

  • FIFA under pressure to sack Samuel Eto’o from role as FECAFOOT president

A group of Cameroonian officials is exerting pressure on FIFA to remove former Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o from his position due to multiple controversial incidents linked to him.

In a letter addressed to FIFA President Gianni Infantino and Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe, the group questions Eto’o’s continued leadership at FECAFOOT, alleging that he has “illegally” asserted control over the organisation.

CAF had initiated an investigation into Eto’o’s alleged improper conduct in August following leaked audio implicating him in a match-fixing scandal, despite his denials.

Eto’o had claimed he was conversing with a friend who invests in football and expressed that he “would have done everything possible to avoid any refereeing errors against him.”

According to the group’s letter, which includes figures like Pierre Semengue, President of the Professional Football League of Cameroon, and former FECAFOOT Vice-President Henry Njalla Quan Junior, the lack of action taken against Eto’o “lies at the very heart of football’s issues of integrity, ethics, and fair play.”

The letter also references Eto’o’s suspended prison sentence in a tax fraud case, asserting that, according to FECAFOOT’s statutes, he should have relinquished his role after the ruling.

Additionally, it mentions an incident in which Eto’o kneeled a man in the face during the World Cup in Qatar, captured on video.

Eto’o’s partnership with sports betting company 1XBET is another point of contention in the letter, alleging that it constitutes a “flagrant violation” of the FIFA Code of Ethics.

Pointing to the Spanish Football Federation’s (RFEF) swift attempts to remove Luis Rubiales as president following his kiss on Jenni Hermoso after the Women’s World Cup, the letter challenges world football’s governing body, saying: “Not a word has been heard from FIFA despite numerous complaints and reminders from Cameroonian football actors.

“How can FIFA continue to remain silent in the face of so many scandals that compromise public confidence in sporting ethics and the sincerity of matches?”

It continued: “The sad reality of this two-speed management of almost identical situations is that Africa remains a kind of enclave where you can take liberties with the ethics and exemplarity that sports leaders should embody,” the letter says.

“Can you imagine FIFA and UEFA remaining silent when the president of a European football federation is suspected of match-fixing, with audio recordings to back it up?

“Can you imagine FIFA and UEFA keeping quiet while the president of a European soccer federation signed a personal ambassadorship contract with a sports betting operator?”

  • ‘It’s about choice’ – Pochettino on Noni Madueke exclusion from Carabao Cup squad in Brighton clash

Noni Madueke was absent from the Chelsea squad for their Carabao Cup triumph against Brighton, and Mauricio Pochettino has provided an explanation for this decision.

Pochettino made five changes to his starting lineup compared to their previous Premier League match against Aston Villa, affording opportunities to Cole Palmer, Ian Maatsen, Lesley Ugochukwu, and Marc Cucurella.

Despite his previous goal in the Carabao Cup against AFC Wimbledon, Madueke was not named in the matchday squad.

Although Madueke has only played 44 minutes in the Premier League this season, Pochettino has clarified that the winger is not sidelined due to injury.

Following Chelsea’s victory at Stamford Bridge, Pochettino was questioned about Madueke’s absence: “It’s about choice, it’s about choice. Election.”

Chelsea secured a 1-0 victory at Stamford Bridge, with Nicolas Jackson scoring the decisive goal in the second half.

In the upcoming fourth round of the Carabao Cup, Pochettino’s team will play host to Blackburn Rovers.

Chelsea, who have faced difficulties at the beginning of the season, are set to face Fulham next on Monday, October 2nd.

  • Napoli boss Rudi Garcia breaks silence following Osimhen social media trolls

Napoli’s manager, Rudi Garcia, has addressed the recent controversy surrounding striker Victor Osimhen and the club’s TikTok video.

Earlier this week, Napoli’s official TikTok account, which is known for its humorous videos about players, faced backlash for posting two videos featuring Osimhen.

One of these videos poked fun at his missed penalty against Bologna, while the other made a comparison involving a coconut.

Osimhen was understandably upset by this situation and took down all images of himself in a Napoli jersey from his Instagram account. His agent, Roberto Calenda, even issued a legal warning to Napoli.

Although the videos have since been removed, reports indicate that Osimhen has not yet received an apology from the team. Despite this, Garcia attempted to downplay the incident after witnessing Osimhen score in a victory against Udinese on Wednesday.

“Over the last two days, there was a bit of trouble with some clumsy behaviour,” Garcia told DAZN after the game. “Nobody wanted to be hurtful, not TikTok with the video of Victor, nor Victor by taking his photographs down on social media.

“Nobody intended to hurt anyone; these are instinctive reactions and are understandable.

“It is his social media account; he can do what he wants with it. All I can say is that he loves this jersey and will give everything for Napoli this season as well.”

Due to the controversial social media posts, there have been doubts regarding Victor Osimhen’s future with the club.

The Nigerian star played a pivotal role in Napoli’s last season, helping them secure the Scudetto after a 33-year drought with an impressive tally of 26 goals.

As a result, he is expected to attract interest from Saudi Arabian teams when the January transfer window opens.

Furthermore, reports suggest that top European clubs like Chelsea and Real Madrid have shown interest in signing the striker.

Despite the recent controversies, Osimhen showcased his skills by scoring a goal for Napoli in their recent match against Udinese.

Fans can look forward to seeing him in action once again when Napoli faces Lecce on Saturday, September 30th.
